- 0:01Speaker 1: Broadcasting live across the world right now.
- 0:05Speaker 2: This is the John Jay and Rich radio program.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Welcome in to another edition of Couple's Therapy, a delayed
- 0:13Speaker 1: version of Couple's Therapy, because if I want to give
- 0:17Speaker 1: a peak behind the scenes, we have recorded one before.
- 0:23Speaker 1: This is Nick, my wife Caitlin is here and I
- 0:28Speaker 1: ended up nixing it, not Nick sing nixing because I
- 0:35Speaker 1: just didn't We usually use these like almost lava leer
- 0:39Speaker 1: mics at home and just do it after an evening
- 0:43Speaker 1: after the kids go to bed, but I didn't like
- 0:45Speaker 1: the way it sounded, and so it's just like I
- 0:50Speaker 1: and I feel like I wasted I wasted our time
- 0:55Speaker 1: when we did it. But it's okay because here we
- 0:59Speaker 1: sit on Monday, almost afternoon, and you're here and you're
- 1:04Speaker 1: hanging out a.
- 1:05Speaker 3: Little bit of an audio snob you are, so let's.
- 1:08Speaker 2: Do it the right way and you look beautiful today.
- 1:10Speaker 3: Oh my gosh, thank you.
- 1:12Speaker 1: First things, first, I do want to thank you. I
- 1:16Speaker 1: had such a lovely Father's Day. It was just such
- 1:20Speaker 1: a nice, a nice calm day get to spend with
- 1:25Speaker 1: the fam, and you obviously are a huge part of that,
- 1:31Speaker 1: because a you were the other half in helping create
- 1:37Speaker 1: me being a father, and then second and then secondly,
- 1:40Speaker 1: you're just you're just like a fabulous human being.
- 1:44Speaker 4: That oh well, thank you. You don't think our kids
- 1:47Speaker 4: planned all that by themselves?
- 1:49Speaker 2: Yeah, weirdly, I don't.
- 1:50Speaker 1: I don't believe so. So every year for Father's Day
- 1:55Speaker 1: since twenty twenty, yeah, it would have been since twenty two. Yeah,
- 2:01Speaker 1: was We've gotten up early, and I've been pleasantly awakened
- 2:08Speaker 1: by the scent of beer biscuits and beer gravy, and
- 2:14Speaker 1: it is one of my favorite meals of all time,
- 2:17Speaker 1: probably my favorite meal of the year, just given the circumstances,
- 2:23Speaker 1: and that's a Father's Day tradition. I hope we can
- 2:27Speaker 1: continue for a very long time. Then go ahead.
- 2:31Speaker 4: No, I was going to say, I really botched the
- 2:34Speaker 4: gravy this year, a little bit too much milk, But
- 2:36Speaker 4: I will do better next year.
- 2:37Speaker 1: You are, you are beating yourself up over this gravy.
- 2:43Speaker 2: But it wasn't the flavor. No, it's not the flavor. Yeah,
- 2:46Speaker 2: the consistency was a little off, but that's okay.
- 2:49Speaker 3: People follow my gut next.
- 2:51Speaker 2: Some people like a thinner gravy anyway.
- 2:53Speaker 4: And this was the first year that I think that
- 2:55Speaker 4: our kids actually recognized that there was beer in it
- 2:57Speaker 4: and that they shouldn't eat it. But they alcohol like
- 3:00Speaker 4: burns out so they can. But our daughter was grossed No,
- 3:03Speaker 4: she was.
- 3:04Speaker 1: And it was weird that she was grossed out by
- 3:07Speaker 1: it because it's not like you were putting pickle juice
- 3:10Speaker 1: and the gravy, you know, like you're supposed to. And
- 3:15Speaker 1: she was adamant and she was not going to try it.
- 3:18Speaker 1: She was not gonna do anything about it. But that's
- 3:20Speaker 1: just fine. Uh So we we did that, and then
- 3:24Speaker 1: we saw Toy Story five, which will be the biggest
- 3:28Speaker 1: movie of the year.
- 3:30Speaker 2: No, no, I know, I think it'll be the biggest
- 3:33Speaker 2: movie of the year.
- 3:33Speaker 1: I think, yeah, not to get off on a tangent,
- 3:36Speaker 1: but I like, this is probably going to be a
- 3:38Speaker 1: record breaking year for Disney because you think about it,
- 3:41Speaker 1: They've already had Hoppers, They've already had the Mandalorin and Grogu.
- 3:48Speaker 1: You've got uh, Toy Story five, then Spider Man. They
- 3:53Speaker 1: get a cut of Spider Man, even though it's a
- 3:55Speaker 1: sony picture, and then Avengers Doomsday.
- 3:57Speaker 2: By the end of the.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Year, y'all throw in the devil Wares product two, Like
- 4:00Speaker 1: all these movies, I think it's gonna make the Mouse
- 4:03Speaker 1: House a whole bunch of money.
- 4:04Speaker 4: So I just want to clarify you didn't want to
- 4:06Speaker 4: get off on a tangent.
- 4:08Speaker 1: Sorry, I'm sorry. I'm sorry. I'm sorry. It's what I do.
- 4:12Speaker 1: It's what I do in normal conversation.
- 4:14Speaker 3: Just wanted to just wanted to clarify that.
- 4:16Speaker 2: So in Toy Story was such an emotional roller coaster.
- 4:22Speaker 3: I was great.
- 4:23Speaker 4: Yeah, I think whoever it picksar Disney, whoever was like,
- 4:26Speaker 4: let's release this on Father's Day Week and was genius.
- 4:29Speaker 1: Yeah yeah, I mean it was a full theater at
- 4:32Speaker 1: eleven forty five in the morning, and so there's some
- 4:37Speaker 1: fun things that happened during the film. My our daughter
- 4:42Speaker 1: is the most inquisitive character in the history of mankind,
- 4:47Speaker 1: and all her questions are like out loud.
- 4:50Speaker 2: It's never like dad, what's what are you doing?
- 4:53Speaker 4: Now?
- 4:54Speaker 1: It's dad? Why is what he wearing? That poncho? When
- 4:58Speaker 1: is he gonna take it off? Is he going to
- 5:00Speaker 1: take it off? Is someone going to take it off
- 5:02Speaker 1: of him? Is it gonna burn off? And it's just
- 5:04Speaker 1: like these these a series of questions out loud during
- 5:07Speaker 1: the theater or during the movie. But there is I
- 5:12Speaker 1: don't want to spoil anything. There's a several emotional parts
- 5:15Speaker 1: during the movie. And this child did.
- 5:19Speaker 4: What during the sweet thing she did? Yeah, well she
- 5:24Speaker 4: has learned she's sick. She just turned six in May,
- 5:27Speaker 4: and she has learned what makes mommy cry, Like, like
- 5:31Speaker 4: not in a bad way, but like I get emotional
- 5:34Speaker 4: about certain things, like I can't listen to like Taylor
- 5:36Speaker 4: Swift Never Grow Up.
- 5:37Speaker 2: I cry.
- 5:38Speaker 3: So like there's a.
- 5:39Speaker 4: Part that's, you know, an emotional part, and she just
- 5:42Speaker 4: knew that that part was gonna make mommy cry. And
- 5:45Speaker 4: she got up and she came over and just like
- 5:47Speaker 4: hugged me. It was the sweetest thing. Like she didn't
- 5:50Speaker 4: even see me cry. She just knew, Oh, this part's
- 5:52Speaker 4: gonna get mom and then.
- 5:53Speaker 3: She hugged me.
- 5:54Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 5:54Speaker 1: So she came over and did that to you. And
- 5:56Speaker 1: then she after that, she came back to me and
- 5:58Speaker 1: I was holding back my tears and she was like, Dad,
- 6:02Speaker 1: are you crying? Like, no, babe, you're good, she goes.
- 6:06Speaker 1: Mommy was She's not wrong, that's fine.
- 6:11Speaker 3: It was so sweet.
- 6:12Speaker 1: Where So I think I have my definitive because over
- 6:17Speaker 1: the last couple of weeks, we have paraded through the
- 6:20Speaker 1: four previous Toy Story movies. You have not necessarily been
- 6:25Speaker 1: there when this has happened.
- 6:26Speaker 4: I've watched a decent amount. Yeah, I feel like I
- 6:29Speaker 4: have a ranking, But do you you go first?
- 6:31Speaker 2: Okay? So mine was three?
- 6:35Speaker 3: Is your number one?
- 6:36Speaker 2: Is my number one?
- 6:38Speaker 1: The original Toy Story is my number two because and
- 6:42Speaker 1: not because the story is so great because you, but
- 6:45Speaker 1: more because you have to have the origin right to
- 6:48Speaker 1: to have to set up the future projects. I put
- 6:53Speaker 1: number five as three, then Toy Story two, and then
- 6:59Speaker 1: Toy Story four.
- 7:03Speaker 3: I think might not be similar, but.
- 7:05Speaker 2: So mine went three, one, five, two four.
- 7:10Speaker 4: The problem I have with three is it's just too emotional,
- 7:14Speaker 4: like it's good. Though I feel like three would have
- 7:16Speaker 4: been a great ending, so I probably would be three, one, five,
- 7:19Speaker 4: But then I think.
- 7:21Speaker 3: Did you to weight? Did you do two? Four? Two?
- 7:23Speaker 2: For you?
- 7:24Speaker 3: Okay?
- 7:24Speaker 4: Actually I might be the same four. I just don't
- 7:26Speaker 4: really think there was a need to and two. I
- 7:28Speaker 4: don't like that prospector.
- 7:29Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that.
- 7:32Speaker 3: I didn't love jesse In too, but I like jesse
- 7:34Speaker 3: and five.
- 7:34Speaker 1: But I think Toy Story two is probably a better
- 7:37Speaker 1: movie than Toy Story one because you do get a little.
- 7:41Speaker 2: More emotional levity to it.
- 7:45Speaker 1: But like I said, I think that one just holds that,
- 7:48Speaker 1: you know, grip on your on your heart, because that's
- 7:51Speaker 1: where these characters came from.
- 7:52Speaker 2: And then I read today that there.
- 7:55Speaker 1: Is Toy Story six because of course, and it's going
- 7:58Speaker 1: to close out the Bonnie trilogy. So if you look
- 8:02Speaker 1: at the first three, it's the Andy trilogy, then four, five,
- 8:05Speaker 1: six would be the Bonnie Trilogy.
- 8:06Speaker 4: So you know, one thing that I think about is
- 8:09Speaker 4: like these toys, like where were they manufactured? Because like,
- 8:13Speaker 4: there's no damage on these toys after all these years.
- 8:17Speaker 2: Well there's there are.
- 8:19Speaker 4: Jesse was a toy that was built in like the
- 8:20Speaker 4: fifties and look at her, Yeah, as a scuff.
- 8:24Speaker 2: There are ways to take care of your toys.
- 8:27Speaker 4: If I'm just saying they have been through it and back, yeah,
- 8:31Speaker 4: into the incinerator, I mean, just flying all around town.
- 8:35Speaker 1: I image I would argue, and I said this on
- 8:39Speaker 1: the air today too, that I could make the argument
- 8:43Speaker 1: that all five Toy Story movies are in my top
- 8:46Speaker 1: ten animated movies of all time, Like and then I
- 8:50Speaker 1: was trying to think of what the other five would be,
- 8:52Speaker 1: and it's like a goofy movie. But then I then
- 8:54Speaker 1: I started getting in the whole thing and I couldn't
- 8:57Speaker 1: I couldn't wrestle myself.
- 8:59Speaker 3: Back down is a fascinating place to be.
- 9:01Speaker 2: It's not It's not a lot of fun for me
- 9:04Speaker 2: most of the time.
- 9:06Speaker 1: What happened yesterday, we were we were were we when
- 9:10Speaker 1: we were at the ice cream shop?
- 9:12Speaker 3: Oh the joke that I laughed at?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 9:14Speaker 1: So, like I think Caitlin and I have been together
- 9:19Speaker 1: a very long time and she understands my personality. And
- 9:23Speaker 1: while she recognizes that sometimes I can be funny, she's
- 9:29Speaker 1: not always laughing.
- 9:31Speaker 4: Jokes always follow the same formula, and I feel like
- 9:33Speaker 4: I've heard them all.
- 9:34Speaker 3: So when you give me something a little bit new.
- 9:37Speaker 2: But yeah, it gets me.
- 9:38Speaker 1: Oh yeah, and this one got you good.
- 9:44Speaker 3: It was so dumb.
- 9:45Speaker 2: I'm trying to remember the exact scenario because they.
- 9:47Speaker 4: THEO dropped a cone on the floor. Yes, so we
- 9:50Speaker 4: got the floor cone? Yeah?
- 9:53Speaker 2: Oh yeah, yeah, that's what it was.
- 9:55Speaker 1: So our son is if if our daughters the most
- 10:00Speaker 1: inquisitive person ever, our son could be like the most
- 10:04Speaker 1: accident prone kid ever. And I knew it as soon
- 10:08Speaker 1: as he got this ice cream cone that he was
- 10:10Speaker 1: going to drop it, like because any other time we've
- 10:13Speaker 1: got him in ice cream cone, he's dropped it sure enough,
- 10:16Speaker 1: as soon as he sits as soon as he sits down,
- 10:20Speaker 1: he takes one bite of his ice cream and the
- 10:23Speaker 1: cone just flies out of his hand, face like ice.
- 10:27Speaker 2: Cream side down to the floor and pick it up.
- 10:31Speaker 1: And whenever we get it, they get him a new cone.
- 10:34Speaker 1: That the ice cream place was nice enough to give
- 10:36Speaker 1: him a new cone for free. He then is, you know,
- 10:41Speaker 1: he's a little more careful now. But the remaining ice
- 10:46Speaker 1: cream cone was on the floor and I don't know
- 10:50Speaker 1: why I'm telling the story.
- 10:52Speaker 3: And I thought about a floor I called it a
- 10:54Speaker 3: floor cone.
- 10:54Speaker 1: Yeah, he said, he said, oh, because Caroline was like,
- 10:57Speaker 1: where did you get your ice cream cone from?
- 10:59Speaker 2: And she's, oh, it's thea's floor floor.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Cone And I go flog cone and seven years ago,
- 11:06Speaker 1: and you would have thought Jerry Seinfield was right and
- 11:08Speaker 1: right next to me.
- 11:09Speaker 2: It was very funny, and she was like the again.
- 11:13Speaker 4: I was like, your brain is just the weirdest place
- 11:15Speaker 4: to be that that's like.
- 11:16Speaker 3: And it was so fast, so fast you got there and.
- 11:19Speaker 1: I and I can't explain it. It's just it's a
- 11:22Speaker 1: it's a curse that I that I have. I want
- 11:25Speaker 1: to bring up my fitness journey.
- 11:28Speaker 3: Oh wait, you're on a fittest journey.
- 11:30Speaker 1: I want to I want to bring this up because
- 11:33Speaker 1: I think it's I think it's so funny from your perspective,
- 11:38Speaker 1: because it so what has happened is that I have
- 11:42Speaker 1: joined Orange Theory fitness.
- 11:44Speaker 3: You're just trying to find another way to like drop Orange.
- 11:46Speaker 1: No I'm not, because it's so it's like the silliest thing,
- 11:50Speaker 1: Like now now you're just not stopping like what Oh yeah, no,
- 11:53Speaker 1: Well here's the thing I wanted. I would lie I
- 11:56Speaker 1: don't want to go today, but I feel like a uh.
- 12:00Speaker 3: Uh, you're letting down the bran.
- 12:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I'd feel like I'm a dick if I don't go.
- 12:04Speaker 1: So so from your side, I've casually brought up on
- 12:10Speaker 1: the air this Orange Theory thing and it's not it
- 12:13Speaker 1: was never intended to be anything other than I've I've
- 12:17Speaker 1: gone and I don't like working out, Like that's that's
- 12:22Speaker 1: the intention, But it is kind of spiraled into something
- 12:27Speaker 1: a little different, and I think it's hilarious from my side.
- 12:31Speaker 1: From your side, what do you what do you think
- 12:37Speaker 1: about me? Uh, pretend influencing.
- 12:43Speaker 4: I mean, here's the thing, there's a lot about this situation.
- 12:47Speaker 4: So for the two people listening, we have a bunch
- 12:51Speaker 4: of friends that go to an Orange Theory and I
- 12:53Speaker 4: started going with another friend, a bunch of us, and
- 12:56Speaker 4: then like another dad came. It's a big group of
- 12:59Speaker 4: us now that go. And I've been trying to get
- 13:01Speaker 4: Nick to join, but he's like, oh money and won't go. Well,
- 13:05Speaker 4: then one of my friends Ni, Yeah, another dad in
- 13:10Speaker 4: the group signed him up, and then Nick winn and
- 13:14Speaker 4: Nick got the other dad the fifty dollars referral code.
- 13:18Speaker 4: So when Nick joins, I don't even get the referral code.
- 13:21Speaker 4: Our other friend does. Then Nick decided that Orange Theory
- 13:25Speaker 4: is literally his entire like personality. And if you talk
- 13:29Speaker 4: to anyone now, he's like, oh, I don't know if
- 13:31Speaker 4: you recognize me. I've had a six Orange Theory classes.
- 13:34Speaker 4: Oh I'm sorry, can you see me over here? Am
- 13:36Speaker 4: I disappearing? Because you know I'm fit and just telling
- 13:39Speaker 4: everyone how fit he is?
- 13:41Speaker 2: Yeah? No, well that's the thing everybody asked me about it.
- 13:44Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean's he's just I mean, all of a sudden,
- 13:46Speaker 4: just jacked.
- 13:47Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 13:48Speaker 3: And so here's the thing like you're talking about on
- 13:50Speaker 3: the air.
- 13:51Speaker 4: Does not surprise me because you don't stop talking about
- 13:54Speaker 4: it now.
- 13:55Speaker 1: Like with it it well, yeah, because it was brought
- 13:57Speaker 1: up because off the air, I do the same thing
- 14:00Speaker 1: to people here that I do it to our friend group,
- 14:03Speaker 1: where it's like, oh, oh my gosh, I'm so sorry.
- 14:05Speaker 1: I should have I should have reintroduced myself because you
- 14:09Speaker 1: probably don't recognize me because I I'm I'm kind of
- 14:12Speaker 1: on a fitness journey right now. And so so that
- 14:15Speaker 1: is transpired into like, we're trying to work out a
- 14:19Speaker 1: John Jaye Rich specific class.
- 14:22Speaker 3: Which is gonna be fun.
- 14:23Speaker 1: And I think I and I think it's I think
- 14:26Speaker 1: it's fun. I think it's hilarious. I think the pitch
- 14:29Speaker 1: is dad rock. And so I mean right in my
- 14:34Speaker 1: right in my wheelhouse.
- 14:36Speaker 4: I mean, I have loved going. I think it's been
- 14:38Speaker 4: super fun. I'm glad you're doing it too. It's something
- 14:40Speaker 4: fun to do together. A bunch of our friends go.
- 14:42Speaker 4: Typically when we go, there's somebody we know if making
- 14:46Speaker 4: light of the making jokes about it motivates you, and
- 14:51Speaker 4: you know what they're seizing their opportunity to get you know,
- 14:55Speaker 4: you and the crew in.
- 14:56Speaker 3: I think it's fun.
- 14:57Speaker 4: Yeah, I that that just makes me like them even more,
- 15:02Speaker 4: that they're like, hey, this guy's fun and let's let's
- 15:05Speaker 4: all work together and spread the word.
- 15:08Speaker 3: I think it's fun.
- 15:09Speaker 1: It's like everything surrounding it. I like, it's actually like
- 15:12Speaker 1: doing classes. I'm like, oh my god, I have to
- 15:15Speaker 1: work out again.
- 15:16Speaker 4: Yeah, you know you're forty. Now, I know you turned forty.
- 15:20Speaker 4: I just turned into like the portrait of fitness.
- 15:23Speaker 2: Well it was, and it was funny.
- 15:25Speaker 1: The other day, I took you know, Theodore Walmart and
- 15:27Speaker 1: I brought I came back and I did have several
- 15:31Speaker 1: like us, like what do you call.
- 15:33Speaker 2: Health assistant assistance?
- 15:36Speaker 1: Yeah, things, I bought creatine, I bought a shaker from
- 15:39Speaker 1: my Protein.
- 15:40Speaker 2: Shake, and you were like all in.
- 15:42Speaker 1: You were like somehow you have dove all in on this,
- 15:45Speaker 1: and I mean, but you kind of it feels like this.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Yeah you do it or you don't.
- 15:50Speaker 1: Like well, I think at some point I also recognize that,
- 15:55Speaker 1: like I can't just not be active, you know, especially
- 16:00Speaker 1: with the kids getting older, it's it's nice to be
- 16:04Speaker 1: able to be like Okay, I can run around with
- 16:07Speaker 1: you without feeling like I'm going to pass out.
- 16:10Speaker 3: I mean, I like to think I motivated you a little.
- 16:13Speaker 2: No you did, No, you No, you certainly have.
- 16:16Speaker 1: But you know that's that's probably the larger part of it,
- 16:20Speaker 1: I guess is if I'm being completely honest.
- 16:22Speaker 4: Well, because our kids would be like, Mommy goes to
- 16:24Speaker 4: the gym, why don't you, daddy?
- 16:26Speaker 1: Yeah? Yeah, and then the constant daddy's got a chubby belly.
- 16:31Speaker 4: Oh, I know, I don't like when they talk chubby.
- 16:34Speaker 4: We don't like to use that word.
- 16:35Speaker 2: No, I don't like it either.
- 16:37Speaker 3: No, I don't know why she said that the other day.
- 16:39Speaker 2: But you know, like they're kids. That's what they that's
- 16:42Speaker 2: what they do.
- 16:44Speaker 4: But I'm proud of you, and you know what, I
- 16:46Speaker 4: think it makes me like Orange theory more that they
- 16:49Speaker 4: have embraced this random little boost.
- 16:52Speaker 1: Of the weirdest free promotion, the weirdest human being that
- 16:56Speaker 1: they've ever worked with the target audience.
- 17:00Speaker 2: Yeah you think so, I would say, so.
- 17:03Speaker 3: I don't know people are there.
- 17:05Speaker 1: Yeah, I didn't say it like just just human beings. Yeah,
- 17:07Speaker 1: it's probably right.
- 17:08Speaker 2: In the eternal battle of Morning show supremacy. We are
- 17:14Speaker 2: one of them. It's john Jay and Rich
