- 0:00Informed dissent, the intersection of healthcare and politics with Dr.
- 0:05Jeff Barkey, board certified primary care physician.
- 0:09And Dr.
- 0:10Mark McDonald.
- 0:11Board certified child adolescent and adult psychiatrist.
- 0:15All right.
- 0:15Welcome, Mark.
- 0:16Another great episode of informed dissent.
- 0:19Great to be with you again.
- 0:21One certainly hopes so.
- 0:24I I don't have you ever seen the country or the world so divided before.
- 0:31Well, I think that it is becoming an almost unbridgeable dichotomous nation, largely because of the ongoing misuse and abuse of now I think AI fueled informational propaganda that gets fed to the population and those who are unable to think for themselves are becoming pulled further and further to a like almost delusional alter reality by globalists and leftists that is so divergent from those who actually live in the real world that we no longer have the ability to have differences of opinion because we live in different realities.
- 1:15And that's something I've never seen before.
- 1:20I think so.
- 1:21And I and I'm concerned that the next election will be stolen not by proxy votes and mules like it was the last time, but by the recreation of actual reality by AI-led Democrat propaganda that will create a reality for people who vote that does not exist with fake voices with fake images, Donald Trump and Republicans doing things like actually raping women and murdering children and system.
- 2:01It'll be created by AI and it will be used as a propaganda weapon in the same way that the propaganda that was pushed out by simple talking heads lying in the last election was done to favor one side, but this will be so beyond what we've ever seen before and impossible to counter that only until after the election will the Democrats say, oh, we didn't realize that this was actually being produced, uh that it wasn't true.
- 2:33Too bad we won the election, so go home and just shut your mouth.
- 2:36Well, you don't even need AI.
- 2:38There are some real people out there that are saying some pretty disgusting things with authority.
- 2:43You have people like Tucker, you have people like Candace that are saying some things, and those are folks that I really used to respect and like, and they say it with great authority with a ginormous audience, kind of like a Joe Rogan-like audience.
- 3:00And they have a certain responsibility, I think, to tell the truth, and they believe they're telling the truth, and then there's contrary views, and then pick your side and then pick your avatar favorite person who is out there promoting the perspective that you believe, and then you repost it over and over again, and then you have these two divergent groups that have their famous smart people that are saying things that they believe, and there's no way to bridge the gap.
- 3:29Well, there's two problems right now.
- 3:31One is the problem that's coming from those who know that they're lying, and those are the people that I believe are in the process of creating AI-driven engines to literally create a false reality to convert people to their side with a narration of events that has not actually happened, and and that's deception at its highest level.
- 3:55On the other, you have people that are within the conservative group, or at least they used to be called conservative.
- 4:00And you mentioned Tucker Carlson and Candace Owens, who I actually am quoting in my article, which is now coming out about the Iran strikes, who are saying things that I believe that they believe, but that are factually untrue.
- 4:17Tucker Carlson just recently said a two days ago that Trump's demand for unconditional surrender by Iran means that American troops can now rape and murder Iranian women.
- 4:33He said that multiple times in an interview.
- 4:35I believe that he believes that, but it's absolutely absurd.
- 4:38And I don't know what happened to him or Candace Owens, who's now become a raging delusional anti-Semite when they used to be actually quite bold, courageous, and sincerely investigative pundits and individual newscasters.
- 4:54And now they're just they're basically lunatics.
- 4:56It's hard to know who to believe anymore.
- 4:58You you watch the news, pick your favorite channel, whether it's Fox or CNN or MSNBC or Twitter or Instagram or whatever where you read information, I don't even know what to believe anymore.
- 5:09I saw a whole uh well-done social media post.
- 5:14I think it was on Instagram, it may have been on Facebook, talking about how America is actually losing this war, and nobody is telling us that our bases overseas are being bombed and destroyed, that we're running out of ammunition, uh, that the American military is scrambling to save face, that in a matter of days or hours or weeks that we're gonna learn that the American, the mighty American military has been completely destroyed and Iran has won the war.
- 5:42And they say it sincerely with graphics, with great production.
- 5:48I'm like, what?
- 5:49Who is putting this together?
- 5:51You listen to guys like Ben Shapiro, who's just smart as heck, he has a whole post dispelling the lies that Candace and Tucker has put out.
- 6:00And listen, Candace and Tucker are not idiots.
- 6:05They're really intelligent people, both of whom I used to follow and listen to and shake my head and be proud that they were saying things that were contradictory and contrary to the mainstream narrative.
- 6:18And what happened to them?
- 6:19And I don't know who to believe anymore.
- 6:21The Charlie Kirk conspiracy theories, um, turning point USA, Erica Kirk.
- 6:28I don't know what to believe anymore.
- 6:30And so what I end up doing is I just turn the news off.
- 6:33I don't even watch anymore.
- 6:34I've largely stopped watching I watch Netflix series, and there's some really good ones on right now.
- 6:40And I just will glance at the news, shake my head, focus on my own life and what I'm doing, and pay less and less attention to national news and what's going on internationally.
- 6:51So can you imagine if it's this bad now and we're not in an election, how bad it's going to be in a couple of years when people need to make really important decisions about who to elect across the country.
- 7:07We already had multiple stolen elections, and it wasn't using AI.
- 7:12I know it's gonna get it.
- 7:13It's just people lying.
- 7:14I I don't know what we're going to do anymore in order to determine what is truthful and what is not.
- 7:19Yeah.
- 7:20When it's not just about people's differing opinions, it's about actual video and audio and pictures and images that are coming in through private channels that are being distributed at a rate of millions of views per hour, faster than an even main news organization.
- 7:39You could see the bombs dropping and the explosions five seconds after they occurred in Dubai during the Iran missile strikes on social media.
- 7:46You that was faster than what you could get off of actual news services.
- 7:50Of course.
- 7:50And who knows if those videos are actually even real?
- 7:53Who knows?
- 7:54Nobody knows.
- 7:55There's some great AI.
- 7:57I mean, there's some great AI stuff that I watch.
- 8:00Obviously, it's AI, but some you know, aliens attacking and various things that are happening, and they dogs.
- 8:08They look so they look so real that it's almost impossible unless you're really discerning and you know what you're doing to determine what's real and what's fake.
- 8:16We're kiddingly talking with my social media team as they were recording my voice.
- 8:21I'm like, I don't have to do any more recordings.
- 8:23Just write the script, and AI can take my head and produce whatever you want on me saying whatever you want.
- 8:30And that's what's happening, especially to famous people, unfortunately.
- 8:35You could have you know Jeff Barkey in his space suit saying, you know, it's not really as warm as they say it is here on Mars, and it'll look and sound just like you.
- 8:43Exactly.
- 8:44It might actually be me.
- 8:47So you, you know, you don't usually write political articles.
- 8:51It's more about the the human condition and relationships, men and women and so forth.
- 8:56But you know, over the last several weeks, you you have written more and more about politics, and maybe because it's happening real time and it's important, and you have a perspective that I mostly agree with.
- 9:08You wrote an article, and we've talked about this about Trump's state of the union, um, how it really you know high highlighted and he called out um the left to a point I've never seen.
- 9:21And then you recently wrote about the Iran war.
- 9:24And I'm gonna, I'm gonna read the first paragraph, then I want to get your comment.
- 9:28Every president since 1979 has known that the Islamic Republic of Iran was a problem, and that is absolutely true.
- 9:37As a matter of fact, there's movies about this.
- 9:39What's what's that movie called?
- 9:41Yeah, Argo.
- 9:42What a great movie where American hostages are uh taking refuge in the Canadian embassy or something, and it's a great movie.
- 9:50Uh every single one, Carter knew it when he paraded American host host when they paraded American hostages on TV.
- 9:58I remember that.
- 10:00Reagan knew it when Hezbollah bombed the Marine base in Beirut.
- 10:04Clinton knew it.
- 10:05Bush knew it and got distracted by Iraq instead.
- 10:08True.
- 10:09Obama knew it and decided the answer was pallets of cash and a deal built on wishful thinking.
- 10:16Biden knew it and of course did nothing.
- 10:18And now Donald Trump is the is the man who finally did something about it.
- 10:24And I don't mean did something in the bureaucratic diplomatic, let's form a committee sense that Washington has perfected over five decades.
- 10:34This is great writing.
- 10:35I mean, he looked at 47 years of death to America.
- 10:40Like, don't people remember this?
- 10:42Chance, death to America, death to Israel.
- 10:46I remember seeing uh citizens lined up and beheaded in the desert as it related to the Iraq war.
- 10:54Death to America, 47 years of proxy wars, hostage taking, nuclear brinkmanship.
- 11:00And he made the call.
- 11:01He acted.
- 11:02Operation Epic Fury is now five days old.
- 11:05Of course, now we're whatever, almost two weeks in or so.
- 11:08And the results speak for themselves.
- 11:10Iran's Supreme Leader is dead.
- 11:13Next guy up, I think is now one leg uh short.
- 11:18Um is at the bottom of the Persian Gulf.
- 11:22It's Air Force no longer exists.
- 11:24The regime's senior military and intelligence leader has systematically been demantled.
- 11:30That is not luck.
- 11:31That is not reckless.
- 11:33That is decision making.
- 11:34And of course, the left will tell you all the nefarious reasons why he did this, including a midterm election that's coming up and political reasons, distraction from Epstein and all the reasons that they that they have.
- 11:47It's it's hard to see the Dems and have them speak this nonsense with a straight face.
- 11:54It's just unbelievable.
- 11:55War Powers Act, never mind that that's never actually been invoked, and we've been in endless number of armed conflicts without the War Powers Act.
- 12:04But you know, of course, you know, Trump derangement syndrome is real, and they will keep fighting this battle until Trump is no longer in office.
- 12:12They offer no alternative.
- 12:15They deny the past, and they offer no other future whatsoever.
- 12:24Their entire position is anti-Trump.
- 12:27If Trump were to have done what Biden and Obama and Bush did, where would we be in six months to a year?
- 12:36Well, we can't know for sure, but it appears to be historically from what we've seen and heard, and what the Iranians' intentions have been and what they've been up to recently, that it's a high likelihood, high likelihood that they would send a nuclear bomb into Israel and start World War III.
- 12:56They could, they would.
- 12:58And they were on the brink of accomplishing that by all objective standards.
- 13:03So given that reality, that potential reality has destroyed the political leadership and the military of Iran with a extremely low, historically low percentage and number of civilian casualties as well as military casualties on our side.
- 13:29How has that been a bad decision or a bad call?
- 13:33I don't see how you make that argument.
- 13:35Looking back in the Iraq war, looking back in World War II, civilian and military casualties were at dozens of times higher over endless months and years of war.
- 13:46And in only two weeks, we've destroyed a fairly sophisticated and on the brink of World War II, Islamic theocracy that threatens geopolitical stability, avoided World War III at what?
- 13:58We've we've lost maybe seven or eight soldiers, and we've had 150 casualties, and there's been virtually no civilian casualties except potentially recently a school that was mistakenly targeted, a couple hundred people died.
- 14:14But it's it's given the number of people that have died in previous conflicts, it's infinitesimal.
- 14:19And the numbers of civilians in Iran that were murdered just this year, over 30,000 people by their own regime.
- 14:27I don't really see how one can take these arguments the Democrats are proposing seriously.
- 14:34They don't feel to me to be serious arguments.
- 14:36They feel to me to be dissembling and deception.
- 14:38They're not political arguments.
- 14:40They're they're actually attempts to distract from what is in my view one of the most courageous and the most brilliant displays of decision making in the last 50 years.
- 14:56You go on to say you can agree or disagree with the strategic reasoning, but you cannot deny the courage it takes to make that decision, knowing full well that every media outlet on the planet will compare you to Bush in Iraq, that the anti-war establishment will howl, that the stock market will drop, that your own base includes people who elected you partly on a promise to end foreign wars.
- 15:19Trump knew all of that.
- 15:21He did it anyways.
- 15:22That's leadership.
- 15:24And we know he's not running for re-election.
- 15:26He's got nothing to gain by delaying or going to war.
- 15:32He's doing what he thinks is right for America.
- 15:37Uh, you know, inarticulately, brashly, in a way that maybe a better statesman could describe it, but but nonetheless, he has done what others have talked about now for 50 years.
- 15:57I don't think the left can tolerate this.
- 16:00I think that they're so attached to America's failure that any success that does not come from their party, but rather from Trump and Republican side must be utterly denied, even if it means creating an actual delusional alternate reality, which is what you just mentioned earlier.
- 16:34This is something that I don't think is has really any historical precedent.
- 16:40We've always had principled opposition, but to have a powerful group of people rooting for the demise of the country simply because they dislike the president, is something I've never seen before.
- 16:59Well, there was a small but very, very vocal opposition to the Vietnam War, marched on campuses, marched on the mall in Washington, uh, not nearly as as large as we're seeing now and is widespread.
- 17:13And uh, but they were but the anti-Vietnam people were certainly supported by mainstream media as well.
- 17:21I think that you could say that that represented probably the first use of media to undermine a unified national position in an international conflict.
- 17:42In fact, there's been books written about how the use of media actually caused that war to be lost.
- 17:48Yeah, the majority of Americans supported that war, a very vocal minority marched and screamed and yelled and were backed by the media that ultimately affected the outcome.
- 17:59And we, you know, got out of Dodge pretty quickly, and ultimately Vietnam was run over by the communists.
- 18:06The news from what I have studied during that time, displayed day after day, week after week of images, pictures, and videos of the coffins of American soldiers coming back with a body count, very similar to what we saw with the um the woofloo clock that showed up in 2020 and 2021, where every day on the news you would see this like rotating number, kind of like the national debt number showing the increasing number of deaths from the coronavirus.
- 18:37And people just got every day scared to death because they'd wake up with their morning coffee and they'd see another 27,000 people have died, and then it was 100,000, then it was a million, that was two million.
- 18:48It induced panic, and that's exactly what they did in Vietnam.
- 18:51Well, how many more coffins do we have to see on the news before we stop this war?
- 18:55That was the position that the media took, and they ingrained that into the minds of Americans who are watching television.
- 19:03Had that happened in World War II, maybe we would have bowed out of World War II as well.
- 19:07People weren't aware of it in the way that they have been since Vietnam.
- 19:11Oh goodness, can you imagine if there was this kind of media coverage during World War II, just the carpet bombing and in Germany alone would have caused the media to just have a have a seizure.
- 19:25Um, we did what we had to during World War II to win.
- 19:29Um, and I think that's what Trump is trying to do here to do what we have to to win as quickly and as decisively as possible.
- 19:38So you posted this article on dissident MD at sort of your substack site.
- 19:43And what's been the response since you posted it?
- 19:47Well, I received a tremendous degree of support from people who generally offer their support.
- 19:52A few people who offer their support generally were thoughtfully concerned and offered some critique.
- 20:00Critiques, which I which I welcomed and I responded to in an also civil and respectful way.
- 20:06But for the first time in the last few years, I also received from people I don't know, but who are subscribers, pointed attacks, including one unsubscribe.
- 20:20This is someone who actually was paying money.
- 20:22So that's a that's a first for quite a long time, along with comments that essentially accuse me of being a pawn in the Israeli and Jewish global takeover of the world, which Trump has now apparently fallen fallen prey to as well, because he's been bought off by the Zionist conspiracy and is now tanking the United States in order to support Israel, which is then going to take over the world and I guess just basically steal all our money.
- 20:58That seems to be the general running argument.
- 21:01And I assume that these people are conservative or would call themselves conservative.
- 21:08And I also assume that they are following the same line of thinking and are listening to the same news outlets that Candace Owens and Tucker Collerson are, because they seem to have very similar positions.
- 21:21Yeah, never mind that you're not actually Jewish.
- 21:24But if the otherwise peaceful democratic country of Israel took over the world, uh what exactly would they do?
- 21:35I always ask that question, and then these people change the topic.
- 21:39Because when I when I asked them what would happen if Muslims took over the world, well, definitionally, we would all be executed, forced to pay a tax or forced to convert.
- 21:52If Jews took over the world, they're enjoined from even proselytizing, much less forcing conversions of their religion over to other people.
- 22:01They don't even restrict the sale of pork in Israel.
- 22:07Anywhere in the world.
- 22:09Yeah.
- 22:09They just don't eat it themselves.
- 22:11But already in the United States, we're already seeing Muslims in cities trying to eliminate dogs because they don't want them roaming the streets or used as pets.
- 22:24And certainly if you're gay, forget about it if Muslims take over.
- 22:28Completely.
- 22:29Which is ironic because, of course, the left, not the conservatives, but the left is vehemently opposed to any form of restriction on the liberties of gays, lesbians, transgenders, etc.
- 22:45So there's a very interesting kind of um blindness on the part of the left, and also a kind of a sense of, I would say denial and confusion on the part of the conservatives who all appear to be aligned in one way as Muslim apologists and anti-Semites, which is a very strange uh group of bedfellows.
- 23:11This is probably the only area where I see the extreme left and the kind of odd, I wouldn't even call them right wing.
- 23:18They're just this oddball group within the conservative movement.
- 23:21They all seem to be aligned in this one area that they just really hate Jews, they hate Israel, and they want to see all Jews in Israel eliminated.
- 23:30Why?
- 23:32Well, as you know, Dennis Prager has been talking about this for a number of years.
- 23:35Why the Jews?
- 23:37And I agree with his argument that the Jews have always been attacked because they happen to be very successful.
- 23:51Wherever they go, they thrive.
- 23:54Very similar to Asians.
- 23:57Asians immigrate all over the world.
- 23:59They're in the northernmost region of Russia, where it's the coldest place in the world where there's actual permanent human habitations, and they go out on the street and they sell fish.
- 24:10The Asians sell fish.
- 24:12And it's so cold on the streets when they sell this fish, but they don't even need to pay for freezing and refrigeration because the fish remain frozen on the street.
- 24:23And it's an amazing efficiency because they don't have to have any overhead.
- 24:28There's no refrigeration.
- 24:29And they come back and they say, I made so much money selling fish, I don't even have to pay for the freezer.
- 24:33I just put them out and they're frozen all day.
- 24:37It's incredible.
- 24:38This is the kind of Have you been there?
- 24:42I watched a I watched a video last week about this.
- 24:45Coldest part of the world is in the middle region of the north section of Russia.
- 24:49It's not the northernmost, but it is the coldest.
- 24:52And the most successful entrepreneurs are the Asian fish vendors on the street because it's freezing there almost every single day of the year, except for summer.
- 25:01Yeah.
- 25:02So you see this and you see this kind of success.
- 25:04This is a very micro example of it, but you see this success worldwide with Jews.
- 25:10And it makes people angry because it reflects poorly on them when they're not successful.
- 25:18The Jews are like a mirror of accountability.
- 25:23And accountability is anathema to people on the left.
- 25:27That explains why the left hates the Jews.
- 25:30Why the people who are conservative, who generally, by being conservative, you're already embracing accountability by definition.
- 25:38Why they hate the Jews is a is a big mystery to me.
- 25:42Because it doesn't stand to bear that they are envious of the Jews' success because these are people who are successful.
- 25:51Candace Owens and Tucker Carlson are quite successful educationally, financially.
- 25:57They have a lot of following.
- 25:58Why should they suddenly decide that the Jews are awful people?
- 26:02It's not envy, clearly.
- 26:03Envy isn't driving it.
- 26:04It's not jealousy.
- 26:06But they do they do seem to fall prey to conspiracy theories that are based upon seemingly authoritative historical analyses by actual Jews that create false historical narratives that are not based in reality that paint the Jews and the Israelis as truly deceptive, awful, evil people who are hellbent on massacring the world's population.
- 26:40And it's invented out of thin air, it has no historical basis, and that's truly what they believe.
- 26:45And they're in this very sincere.
- 26:47They are sincere.
- 26:48Mark, we're going to take a quick break.
- 26:50And when we come back, I want to talk about if Jews were to take over.
- 26:54Do you think that we'd have better delis in Orange County?

- 29:20All right, we are back with informed dissent.
- 29:33We need we need to bring an LA Jewish deli down to Orange County.
- 29:38Maybe the Jewish delis will relocate down there because they're all having to shut down because the customers are too afraid to patronize them after being assaulted by a gauntlet of deranged mentally ill and drug addicted and withdrawing homeless.
- 30:00Attics within a two square block radius of the deli.
- 30:03Seriously.
- 30:04There actually is in Corona del Mar, which is where I live.
- 30:08A really good uh New York Jewish deli.
- 30:12I can't remember what it's called.
- 30:13I'll think about it in a minute.
- 30:15And they have great pastrami on rye and really good pickles.
- 30:19So I will go there from time to time.
- 30:22Uh, because it it is it's called Gary's Deli, Gary's Deli, it's in New York Delhi.
- 30:26It's actually pretty good.
- 30:28I'll have to take you there next time you're down here.
- 30:30I'd like to try it.
- 30:31Most of the delis, though, as you know, are not run by conservative Jews.
- 30:35They're they're unless they're kosher, but there's no such thing as a kosher deli that I'm aware of.
- 30:39Yeah.
- 30:40Usually by secular Jews, uh, mostly in the Hollywood district, and those people tend to vote Democrat.
- 30:46Yeah, I I've I've talked to the owner, this older lady.
- 30:49I'm not sure if she's conservative or not.
- 30:51I'll have to broach that topic, but I enjoy her pastrami, so I don't want her not to like me and spit in my pastrami sandwich.
- 31:00You go on with this article that you wrote about uh what Trump has done vis-a-vis Iraq or Iran, rather.
- 31:0847 years of death to America.
- 31:10One thing that frustrates me, you say about the coverage of the war is the way it's being discussed, as though it appeared out of nowhere, as though Trump woke up one morning and decided to bomb Iran on a whim.
- 31:22That framing is either ignorant or dishonest.
- 31:28What do you think?
- 31:29Ignorant or dishonest.
- 31:31I think that it is both.
- 31:33I think it's dishonest on the part of the left and the Democrats, and I think it's ignorant on the part of the conservatives for the same reasons I mentioned earlier.
- 31:43Democrats and the left, and that's one in the same, it's just a Marxist group.
- 31:47They know what the history was.
- 31:49These people aren't stupid.
- 31:51They know and understand that there's a long decades long history involved.
- 31:57They supported Obama, they supported Biden, they know what Biden Obama did.
- 32:01They haven't forgotten that.
- 32:02They want us to forget.
- 32:04And so they're trying to lie to us and pretend that there is no event that occurred before the strike that was proof that Iran has both terrorized its own population and those of neighboring nations and threatened the US and has murdered both civilians and military all the way back to the 70s.
- 32:31And at the same time, would not have us believe that given all of that and recent conclusive information through intelligence that Iran is not near to or very near to establishing both a delivery system and a bomb that they could use to send immediately over to Israel that would spark a third world war that would result in tens of millions of casualties within a matter of days.
- 33:03They won't even acknowledge that fact as they state that Trump just woke up one morning and decided to bomb a otherwise peaceful nation for narcissistic and ambitious purposes.
- 33:17A flat out lie.
- 33:18To deflect from the Epstein file.
- 33:20Right.
- 33:21That that must be the reason.
- 33:22This is this stretches credulity so much that it's it's hard for me to believe that anyone would anyone would swallow this, except for the fact that most of the American population receives almost all of their information through their phone.
- 33:40Well, when you see on the news, Chuck Schumer and the rest of the Democrats stating emphatically without a smile on their face, these things about Trump and what he's doing.
- 34:04And they believe often what they hear, and the news is so biased.
- 34:09So are the newspapers.
- 34:10You know, I get I get three physical newspapers.
- 34:15Uh I get the Wall Street Journal.
- 34:18I live in Orange County, so the Orange County Register, and then every Friday is the Epic Times.
- 34:23On my block, I am the only one who gets a physical paper delivered.
- 34:30It's so weird.
- 34:31Nobody nobody reads anymore.
- 34:33Nobody reads the news or reads papers.
- 34:35They get clickbait on social media on Instagram, on Facebook, on Twitter and the like, YouTube, TikTok.
- 34:43We're so uneducated these days, and you listen to some of the banter, and some of these news folks and commentators can barely put a sentence together, let alone state narratives or have an opinion or be able to debate in an articulate way.
- 35:03It's it's horrible.
- 35:05Well, I would say that young people who don't have an education can be forgiven to some degree because they weren't taught history and they weren't taught how to think.
- 35:18And that's the fault of the adults for failing to educate.
- 35:22But I don't understand and I don't forgive people who are, let's say, 40 and over, who are also thinking as stupidly as young people, because they actually did have an opportunity to go to school.
- 35:33They did learn how to think critically, at least had the uh the option to do that.
- 35:37They were taught some degree of accurate histor history and able to put things into context.
- 35:43And yet these people, many of them are also falling prey to the same lies and propaganda because it's not just young people that are being led astray.
- 35:53There are a lot of people, 40s, 50s, 60s, 70s, who are parroting the same nonsense.
- 35:59Yeah, no question.
- 36:00And what's that nonsense?
- 36:02The you from your article.
- 36:04By the way, if you're listening to this, go get Mark's article.
- 36:07It's not expensive to subscribe.
- 36:10Uh, it's worth it.
- 36:11Just read a few articles, send them hate mail, and then you can unsubscribe.
- 36:14And that's it.
- 36:15Dissident MD, dissident MD.
- 36:18And that's where he posts all these articles you can read.
- 36:21The critics, as always, the usual chorus has assembled.
- 36:25The comparisons to Iraq are already wall-to-wall.
- 36:28Democrats who spent months saying Trump was an isolationist, are now saying he's a warmonger.
- 36:35The Senate tried a war powers resolution and failed.
- 36:39Pundits who can't find Iran on a map, seriously, that's probably true, are suddenly experts on the Persian Gulf geopolitics.
- 36:48That's so true.
- 36:50They get a little sound bite on social media, and now suddenly they're an expert, and they'll just parrot whatever they heard some so-called experts, say some retired leftist general or or lieutenant colonel, and they believe that that's actually the truth.
- 37:04And they start parenting that on social media.
- 37:06It gets amplified.
- 37:08Other people use the same narrative, the same argument, and we are getting further and further apart in what we believe here in America.
- 37:17Um, I don't know if it's inevitable, but you know, this is civil war stuff in in other countries.
- 37:25I am not impressed anymore by the ability of the marketplace of media and ideas to advance what is true.
- 37:39In fact, I would actually argue that because of algorithms, what is advanced tends to be simply the most scintillating and compelling emotional experience, and the content behind it is irrelevant.
- 38:01Yes.
- 38:01That is a huge problem.
- 38:04Because when you had newspapers, there is at least a cooling off period between the time that the event happens and the time that it's printed, where information can be gathered, it can be reviewed.
- 38:16Truth and falseness can be filtered.
- 38:21And with time, even if it's a few days, a thoughtful person can put together a fairly reliable and cogent piece of news or an opinion.
- 38:31You can't do that in seven seconds using a phone and a camera.
- 38:36It doesn't work like that.
- 38:38So what is going to be pushed up and get into most people's brains and pockets and then be reposted is going to be the thing that upsets people, angers them, or makes them scared, or is the most sexually charged.
- 38:53That's it.
- 38:54Yeah, then he's sex in power.
- 38:56Yep.
- 38:57So if somebody were to ask you, Mark, where should I go?
- 39:00What should I read to get an overview of what the truth actually is as it relates to geopolitics?
- 39:07What would you recommend?
- 39:08Besides, of course, dissident MD.
- 39:12Well, one thing I would recommend not doing is using any type of social media.
- 39:16I think that's a minefield.
- 39:18Even though there is good stuff in social media, it's nearly impossible now to be able to sort through it and filter it.
- 39:25I do think that publications are still by and large a lot more reliable because they have to hold and maintain and cultivate a reputation.
- 39:41There is a new printed newspaper that just came out last week called the California Post.
- 39:47I saw it.
- 39:48It's uh it's being distributed in uh I think I can't remember.
- 39:54I think it's the Orange County Register.
- 39:57Um, I think it might.
- 40:00Think it's the Wall Street Journal.
- 40:01I think it's being distributed right now in the Orange County Register.
- 40:04It's more like a it reads like a more like a magazine than it does.
- 40:08It's a tabloid.
- 40:09Yeah.
- 40:09And it's a spin-off of the New York Post, which is the most popular tabloid/slash conservative uh newspaper uh on the East Coast, and it it counters uh all the nonsense in the Washington Post, which is supposedly an actual newspaper.
- 40:24And I just subscribed to it today.
- 40:26So I'm hoping to get the first issue in a few days.
- 40:29And I'm hoping that that California Post will be an excellent source of accurate news.
- 40:35It may be biased, but at least it'll be accurate.
- 40:37That would be one example.
- 40:38Who owns it?
- 40:39Do you know?
- 40:40I believe it's actually owned by the New York Post.
- 40:43Okay.
- 40:44Yeah.
- 40:44Well, interesting.
- 40:45You'll have to write a dissident MD article about it and whether you think it's good.
- 40:49When people ask me, what should I do to actually get the news?
- 40:53I think you should have multiple sources.
- 40:56Again, I I read, I read the Orange County Register, but you have to be careful because they take news from other sources.
- 41:03So it's not unusual to have a news article that comes from the New York Times or the associated press.
- 41:09So you have to know where it comes from.
- 41:11They have a pretty good opinion section, both left and right.
- 41:14So I think it's worthwhile reading opinion sections, uh, so you can get a different perspective.
- 41:20And then certainly the Wall Street Journal is generally considered, you know, at least the opinion section of the Wall Street Journal, they they lean to the right, but the news leans to the left.
- 41:31So I just try to glance through the news, read a few articles, and uh, and not pay too much attention to TV news, which I rarely have on these days.
- 41:41So here's what you say to the critics.
- 41:44Here's what I'd say to the critics you say, you had 47 years to come up with a better plan.
- 41:50Obama's Iran deal didn't stop them.
- 41:53Sanctions alone didn't stop them.
- 41:56And I remember Obama um, I mean, I remember the TV images of pallets of cash when he made that deal.
- 42:03I don't know how many, how many billions of dollars of cash that are now being used to shoot their neighbors with missiles and so forth.
- 42:10Sanctions alone didn't stop them.
- 42:12Stern letters from the UN, the UN is a complete joke, didn't stop them.
- 42:17Diplomacy for diplomacy's sake didn't stop them.
- 42:21The Iranian foreign minister was still talking about a quote historic agreement, close quote.
- 42:27Uh being within reach days before the regime was killing protesters in the street.
- 42:34I mean, we need to remember we had news reports of protesters, Iranian protesters in the streets protesting the government, and they were being killed.
- 42:45And this is our response to that.
- 42:48And Trump said that if you continue to kill protesters, there will be consequences, and in part, these are the consequences.
- 42:55Diplomacy with a regime that murders its own children is not virtue, it's denial.
- 43:02And I think you're correct.
- 43:06Any of the people that are now criticizing Trump has even a single one come out even close to the level of passion and invective and attack it that they they displayed against Trump against the Iranian regime for the massacre of 30,000 street protesters in the early months of the year.
- 43:26I can't think of a single one.
- 43:27This is why I don't believe that they're sincere.
- 43:30I don't think that they actually even believe their own virtue signaling.
- 43:33I think it's all a lie.
- 43:34And of course, people say, well, here in the United States, you know, the ICE protesters were were killed.
- 43:41I think there was one person who was killed or something by some idiot ICU nurse who was carrying a gun.
- 43:47Exactly.
- 43:48And the lesbian mother uh of uh a couple of kids who uh refused to get out of her car and tried to mow down one of the uh ice officers and he shot her through the windshield.
- 44:00Yeah, that's identical to the protesters being killed in Iran.
- 44:04You go on to say the Iraq comparison, while understandable is lazy, and indeed it is lazy.
- 44:10Iraq was a ground invasion of a country that had not attacked the United States based on intelligence that turned out to be wrong with a plan to rebuild a nation from scratch.
- 44:20This is an air campaign against a regime that has attacked the United States and its allies repeatedly for decades, and the explicit goal is not occupation, but destruction of military capability.
- 44:34We're coming pretty close to that now.
- 44:36Those are not the same things, and pretending they are is a way of avoiding the actual argument, and I agree with you.
- 44:44I think there are legitimate criticisms about what we are doing, but that's not what we're hearing on TV or the media.
- 44:52We're hearing hyperbolic untruths about what we're doing in the Middle East, and I think that's dangerous.
- 44:59It's very dangerous because it it's it's similar to what we talked about earlier with Vietnam.
- 45:06Rather than sorting out the differences in approach and offering a well-meaning sincere critique meant to improve outcome, you're actively undermining a military effort that involves actual lives of Americans and world stability.
- 45:28If you are not in the end supporting the well-being of your country, if you're actively undermining it, then you are acting as a traitor.
- 45:38There is nothing proud about this.
- 45:42There's nothing to display and to pat yourself on the back for.
- 45:46This is actually shameful, and it's harmful, it's dangerous.
- 45:51I am more and more convinced since the State of the Union address and now what you're seeing with Iran that that the Democrat Party and those that support them and those that express and promote their ideas, which is largely media and and corporations, are actually cancers and toxins.
- 46:12They they are they are in a way they're very similar to Iran.
- 46:16I feel like they simply need to be excised.
- 46:19They they don't have any redeeming virtue.
- 46:22But unfortunately, Mark, they likely are going to come back into power in Congress come the midterm elections.
- 46:28And if they do, it will only be the fault of the ignorant or foolish American citizen.
- 46:34And this is the only caveat that I have to say about all the AI and the lies and the deception, is that at the very bottom of everything, the very foundation of the country.
- 46:48It's it's always necessary for the people to be thoughtful and to make good decisions.
- 46:56Because as soon as that's lost, then you open up the possibility of a life that we're living right now.
- 47:04It's it's similar to patients who go to the doctor and just keep asking for pills because they're not eating properly, they're not exercising, they're not sleeping.
- 47:12There is absolutely nothing a doctor can do if the individual does not assume the responsibility for his basic health.
- 47:18And we're not doing that.
- 47:20The American people have abdicated that.
- 47:23That's allowed this infection to grow.
- 47:26This isn't being done to us.
- 47:28We have allowed this to happen.
- 47:30It's our fault, ultimately.
- 47:32I mean, you can always say, well, yeah, I mean, look, it's hard for people to find good news.
- 47:36It's it's that's all true.
- 47:37But in the end, it's sort of like saying, well, you know, my son and daughter addicted to pot, my daughter's pregnant, and they don't go to school and they won't get up on time, they won't do their homework.
- 47:48I just throw up my hands as a parent.
- 47:49I don't know what to do.
- 47:50Yeah, it's not easy being a parent, it's not easy being a citizen.
- 47:53You have to be informed, you have to vote.
- 47:55If you don't want to do your job as a parent, then don't have children.
- 47:58I'm just I'm just tired of listening to the complaints of parents saying that they don't have any way to fix the problems of their kids.
- 48:06Well, you know what?
- 48:07Who else is in a better position to solve that problem than you?
- 48:10If it means selling your house, downsizing, moving to a rural area, you damn well better do it, or just shut your mouth, take your kids to foster care.
- 48:18Yeah, if you don't like the leadership, if you don't like the way the country's moving, then you either you either need to leave and give up, or you need to encourage other people to vote better.
- 48:28You need to vote better yourself.
- 48:30Sure.
- 48:30The people that are doing nothing or who are voting in the truly the wrong direction are the source of the problem.
- 48:35And they're like we said recently in New York, a lot of people have said, is it surprising that that mayor Mandami's wife posted on social media publicly support for terrorists that went out and raped and murdered Israelis a couple of years ago in October?
- 48:54Is that a surprise?
- 48:55Suddenly it's like, oh my goodness, this woman who married an Islamist is actually supporting terrorism against Jews in Israel.
- 49:02Oh my goodness, how could this have happened?
- 49:04Crazy who voted for this man.
- 49:06You get what you vote for in New York.
- 49:08I have no concern whatsoever for the demise of New York.
- 49:12I would like to see it look like escape from New York for the entire world to see because they voted for it, they deserve what they get, New Yorkers.
- 49:20They have good deli and pizza in New York.
- 49:23Oh, that'll certainly very, very soon be expulsed to New Jersey when Mundami bans dogs and pork from the entire New York four boroughs.
- 49:34Exactly.
- 49:35Five boroughs.
- 49:36I can't remember how many boroughs they have.
- 49:37There's a lot of boroughs.
- 49:39Hey, you know, Mark, you're going to be traveling overseas soon.
- 49:42Has the Iran war, the Iran situation changed your plans at all?
- 49:47Well, if I were going to the Middle East, it probably would.
- 49:50Yeah.
- 49:51But um does it scare you at all just being out of the country because of the anti American hostility that's going on around the world?
- 50:01I just spoke with a man in Cape Town.
- 50:06His name is Jeremy Nell.
- 50:08He has a really really funny and hard hitting uh podcast and radio show called Germ Warfare.
- 50:16We should go by the name Germ.
- 50:18Uh we actually, that's a good idea.
- 50:20We should.
- 50:21He's a great guy.
- 50:23And he said to me just two days ago that even in South Africa in Cape Town and all the people that he talks to, he travels a lot.
- 50:34He said, people actually are not opposed to Americans.
- 50:40He said they're opposed to the American government.
- 50:43So when you say anti-American sentiment, it's not really anti-American.
- 50:47It's anti-America.
- 50:49And individual Americans are rather warmly embraced around the world, with very few exceptions.
- 50:56Perhaps in certain places in the Middle East where it's it's taken over by Islamists, but even in the Arab world, outside of the Islamist areas, Americans are still very well received.
- 51:05I was well received in Kurdistan.
- 51:07I was well received in Iraq, certainly in the Christian sections of Lebanon last year.
- 51:13I don't think there's really anti-American sentiment.
- 51:16I think most people, rightly or wrongly, and largely wrongly, although rightly to some degree, are very upset with the American government.
- 51:25And I don't believe that one has an experience of being personally targeted in most places in the world, with some exceptions, simply by being American for political reasons.
- 51:37Sure.
- 51:38So no.
- 51:53They simply don't like our politics.
- 51:57Yep, I understand.
- 51:58Um answering the question, what comes next as it relates to Iran, uh, you finish your article this way.
- 52:06I'm not naive.
- 52:08War is ugly.
- 52:08People are dying, including civilians, and that is a tragedy, no matter whose bombs are falling.
- 52:14The regional fallout is real.
- 52:17Iran has struck back at Gulf states.
- 52:19Embassies have been closed, oral oil prices are spiking.
- 52:24Americans are stranded in the Middle East.
- 52:26The Straits of Hermuz is effectively shut down, although now I think it's opening up.
- 52:31Uh, there are serious consequences, and they deserve serious discussion.
- 52:36But serious discussion requires acknowledging what the alternative was.
- 52:41The alternative was nuclear armed Iran, protected by an ever-expanding missile shield, continuing to fund terrorism across the Middle East indefinitely, while the world pretended that another round of negotiations would fix things.
- 52:57That was the trajectory.
- 52:59Trump changed the trajectory.
- 53:03I think that is correct and accurate and needs to be said to every person who criticizes in any way Trump's decision to engage with Israel against the Iranian military and the theocracy.
- 53:23Well, I'd like to suggest that you make this article public so people can share it because it is about as well written as any on the case for why Trump has done what he's done.
- 53:42That's a request for you to make this article public.
- 53:53So what I thought of, you know, I subscribe to you, and what I thought of doing is just copying and pasting onto my substack.
- 54:00Of course, I'll give you credit.
- 54:02Uh guest guest substack on Rx for Liberty by Dr.
- 54:07Mark McDonald.
- 54:08Are you sure that you would uh now given that you I wouldn't, I don't know if I'd say R now, you certainly have been a Jew in the past.
- 54:16Uh this will this will absolutely target you as a Zionist.
- 54:22I'd I'd I'd do that just I'd just be curious as to the feedback uh from my subscribers and and people that read what I write, which is almost entirely health-related, rarely if ever political.
- 54:37Well, that certainly would be an interesting experiment.
- 54:40Uh a lot of my readers, my subscribers now are coming from the the Jeff Barkey uh Substack because I I get like several dozen a week referred by the RX for Liberty Substack.
- 54:52I love it.
- 54:53I don't know what they're they may not know what they're getting into.
- 54:56Um I don't, in fact, perhaps the ones that were screaming and yelling at me were actually uh referred by your substack.
- 55:04I don't know.
- 55:05So if you post it, you may end up getting hate mail from them too, and say, I might son of a bitch, Dr.
- 55:11Mark McDonald wrote this crap, and now Dr.
- 55:14Jeff Barkey is that the asshole.
- 55:16Yeah, well, sometimes you got to take a stand and not really care about what the feedback is because you believe in the stand that you're taking, like we did during COVID, for example.
- 55:27Well, that's exactly how I felt about this, and that's why I posted the article.
- 55:30I I don't feel that strongly about a lot of politics these days, but I felt strongly about this as I did about masks and injections and closing schools, et cetera.
- 55:38To me, it felt like it was so important and so obvious, and yet there was such a strong chorus of people denying basic reality to our all to all of our detriment, that I decided that I really had to write about it because it's it's this is not a sort of he said she said, let's quibble this, let's quibble that.
- 55:58Political pundits have different points of views.
- 56:00This to me is such an obvious moral, practical and clear-headed decision that everyone should be behind in supporting.
- 56:12The fact that that's not happening was such a disgrace to me.
- 56:16I wanted to expose it, and I couldn't care less whether people are angry and upset.
- 56:23I I I don't even have the uh I don't even have the time, energy or or interest to even bother to give them the middle finger.
- 56:34I have so little respect for them.
- 56:36Right.
- 56:36Well, expose it you did, and we are out of time.
- 56:39So, Mark, well done.
- 56:41Nice job.
- 56:42Another great episode of informed dissent.
- 56:45Uh, let's go do this again.
- 56:52You've been listening to Informed Descent with Dr.
- 56:54Jeff Barkey, board certified primary care physician, and Dr.
- 56:59Mark McDonald, board certified child, adolescent, and adult psychiatrist.
- 57:05Informed dissent, the intersection of healthcare and politics.
