- 0:26[SPEAKER_03]: We didn't come to you yesterday, but we filled in with a very quick reaction show anyway.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_03]: So you getting more of us this week.
- 0:33[SPEAKER_03]: And on Thursday, we will review.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_03]: We will preview 49ers dolphins, which does not.
- 0:48[SPEAKER_01]: How was it that we played in the half, by the way?
- 0:52[SPEAKER_03]: Oh, because it's the NFL, and they're great to make it more, you know?
- 0:57[SPEAKER_03]: Well, yeah, you know, but it should be it should be a rough one.
- 1:01[SPEAKER_03]: We'll talk about it on Thursday.
- 1:03[SPEAKER_03]: There's a lot of content that you're going to get this week.
- 1:05[SPEAKER_03]: Tomorrow.
- 1:06[SPEAKER_03]: Of course, is our through IPCC official.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_03]: And pretty decent college football slate that we'll be talking about Simon Clancy.
- 1:13[SPEAKER_03]: Kyle Crabs and I, but that's tomorrow.
- 1:16[SPEAKER_03]: Today, we're going to react to this game on Sunday.
- 1:18[SPEAKER_03]: We'll start with the the offense here.
- 1:21[SPEAKER_03]: And what better place to start than Malik Wallace,
- 1:27[SPEAKER_03]: you got everything like that was everything there like if you're a detractor and you want to get on Twitter and say ah you see it's uh he's a backup quarterback you know and yeah you got that if you want to see the promise and some of those throws that crisp bulfill for 25 yards come on.
- 1:44[SPEAKER_03]: like we're talking, you could count maybe on one hand, maybe one and a half hands, the quarter backs that could make that throw.
- 1:53[SPEAKER_03]: There was a lot to like from Malik Wallace.
- 1:56[SPEAKER_03]: I'm just going to go ahead and give him an incomplete grade.
- 1:59[SPEAKER_03]: Your thoughts on his game, and I'll start with you Simon, your thoughts on Malik Wallace's game on Sunday.
- 2:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I was really impressed in the first half.
- 2:07[SPEAKER_01]: I'll go say, and to
- 2:11[SPEAKER_01]: I thought that the Dolphins generally did a good job of keeping and protecting the pocket was okay and I think a lot of kudos has to go to the guys at Wilkes America and you know this sort of unsung DJ Herman as that little beer you helped out with with the protections and I thought that you know he moved around a pocket he bought time I had something like it I'm sure you guys have been the same I had some people said some guy like a messenger
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: you know, I've been scouting court back some years and I know he's mediocre and blah, blah, yeah, he had the second longest time to throw in the league and he was still this week and he was still awful and it's like it's just a fundamental lack of understanding about what's happening.
- 2:51[SPEAKER_01]: And I get it, people don't have the time to sit in what's all 22 and if they do, sometimes they just don't understand what they're seeing.
- 2:56[SPEAKER_01]: I thought in the first half, he moved about well, he extended a pocket well.
- 3:01[SPEAKER_01]: He was really accurate on throw.
- 3:03[SPEAKER_01]: He held the ball longer because guys were struggling to get open.
- 3:07[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, you're literally playing with, you know, two or three years, and Malik Washington who started nine games.
- 3:13[SPEAKER_01]: Look, I thought Caleb Douglas was a outstanding, generally.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: I think there was the one route against man that he really did a great job of winning leverage and getting open, who cost him a little
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: I think it's going to be working progress in terms of getting nobody gets mad.
- 3:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he does a great job of getting an open, against Zoning.
- 3:29[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought he was actually in the first half.
- 3:32[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he made really good scrambles when he thought that he was going to get taken down for sex.
- 3:38[SPEAKER_01]: I thought some of the past see made that either came back with penalties or that should have been caught were excellent.
- 3:47[SPEAKER_01]: And generally there was a couple of red, the ball down the right side line to Douglas was excellent, the ball crossing the field, I think again to Douglas was excellent.
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: It did seem to go a little bit wrong in the second half, I don't think he was helped by the play coin, which I thought was a business model, probably get to, you know, when you call three running posts to your star player and four running posts for an entire half, that's really poor.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, it wasn't like that we're down 35, you know, it was a 10 point two score game
- 4:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, worse than that, even in the fourth quarter, at the start of the fourth quarter, you should still be running the ball, given the situation.
- 4:24[SPEAKER_01]: The unforesterous, I thought, began to drip in and it wasn't just misplaced throws.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't like the pick, I thought it was just a bad decision to throw that ball.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought, just some of the, you know, you know, your RCs increase when we used to complain about
- 4:47[SPEAKER_01]: There was just a little bit of that that wasn't really working for me, but I think extenuating circumstances in terms of how it happened because of the players that used around it with leaving Devon A, chatting to Block.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: on multiple occasions on third down, for example, it is full gold, as far as I'm concerned, and it can't help you caught about when you're doing those sorts of things.
- 5:05[SPEAKER_01]: But I think that he has to take credit for some of the sex himself, and also Christopher, some of the penalties himself, and some of the bits and pieces.
- 5:12[SPEAKER_01]: He's paid one drive in all of pre-season.
- 5:16[SPEAKER_01]: It's gonna take a little bit of time.
- 5:19[SPEAKER_01]: But I thought overall, it was a lot better than people on social media were saying.
- 5:23[SPEAKER_01]: And I thought some of the throwers, some of the runs, and how we handled himself in the pocket was excellent.
- 5:28[SPEAKER_01]: I just need to see him get out of that funk that he found himself a little bit increase early in early mid portion of the second half of the game started to get away from them.
- 5:37[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I'll go ahead and address one of the first points, you know, the criticisms about taking too long
- 5:46[SPEAKER_02]: I'm just going to read you a list of names.
- 5:48[SPEAKER_02]: Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hertz, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Dishon Watson, Caleb Williams, these were all quarterbacks who on average took more time to throw and their attempts this weekend.
- 6:02[SPEAKER_02]: So these are all pretty good quarterbacks.
- 6:04[SPEAKER_02]: Jaden Daniels, Jalen Hertz, Lamar Jackson, Josh Allen, Caleb Williams, they all had terrific games.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_02]: And they all averaged a higher time to attempt.
- 6:14[SPEAKER_02]: Then Malik will us to this weekend.
- 6:16[SPEAKER_02]: So if you're kind of talking about how much time Malik will us to to to throw on his attempts.
- 6:22[SPEAKER_02]: I mean, I'm just, you know, I think that's a relevant.
- 6:25[SPEAKER_02]: I think you brought up the correct point Simon, which was that that, you know, not everybody on that offense was getting open.
- 6:34[SPEAKER_02]: and presenting good options.
- 6:36[SPEAKER_02]: And there were some wide receiver, some of those young wide receivers after the game talked about with the press that they need to bone up and make sure that they know their assignments because they ran into that in the game.
- 6:50[SPEAKER_02]: They didn't know their assignments.
- 6:51[SPEAKER_02]: They were running wrong routes.
- 6:54[SPEAKER_02]: They were making mistakes.
- 6:55[SPEAKER_02]: So that's one point to make.
- 6:57[SPEAKER_02]: Another point to make is, I felt like Malik Willis's first half, second half, really good, really terrific until it went into meltdown.
- 7:08[SPEAKER_02]: It was emblematic of the whole game for the Miami Dolphins, and we'll talk about the defense later, but I felt like this was a tale of two games.
- 7:26[SPEAKER_02]: So the first half of the game, the golf fence was doing well, and Malik Willis was terrific.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, up until a certain point when he scored that touchdown and then the next drive is that really bad interception and then the things started to go south.
- 7:44[SPEAKER_02]: The offense was doing well.
- 7:46[SPEAKER_02]: You know, it was looking like they had talent there and then they melted down.
- 7:51[SPEAKER_02]: But defensively during that time, they were absolutely abysmal and then all of a sudden they worked.
- 7:59[SPEAKER_02]: They were
- 8:01[SPEAKER_02]: So, it was just, you're not playing team football in any, in any particular half or in any segment.
- 8:07[SPEAKER_02]: Either the offense is good and the defense is a bismal or the offense is a bismal and the defense is good and that's not winning football.
- 8:15[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so I think that, uh, Malik Willis, you know, he had mistakes in the game.
- 8:20[SPEAKER_02]: The delay of games, uh, were on.
- 8:22[SPEAKER_02]: I would put them on him.
- 8:23[SPEAKER_02]: He, it's ultimately up to him to, uh, to get that straightened out.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_02]: One of them, I thought the play call, probably came in and conspicuously late because they broke the huddle silly.
- 8:34[SPEAKER_02]: But keep in mind, you can see him back there, he's telling rookies, you know, hey, you're in the wrong spot, get over here, you know, like it, get, no get, get off the line of scrimmage like he's having to do that himself.
- 8:47[SPEAKER_02]: That's an extra layer for a quarterback that you don't normally have to do, you know, because your, your wide receivers, you don't normally have to tell your wide receiver to get off the line as strange.
- 8:56[SPEAKER_02]: You know, because they're the ones that are supposed to check that, but he has a young team, so he has a lot on his plate.
- 9:02[SPEAKER_02]: I thought the number of big time Thursday mentioned a couple of them, the big one to Chris Bell down the field.
- 9:08[SPEAKER_02]: That's one of the best throws in the weekend from from any quarterback.
- 9:13[SPEAKER_02]: I thought he had about 10 of those really nice throws in this game and two more that maybe he was off.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_02]: You know, these are big-time throws that in a college setting, you know, this is first-round pick kind of territory, a couple more of that were off by maybe like a foot or two, like on a hundred foot throw, you know, like, so I think you had, you know, it's the consistency of his accuracy.
- 9:38[SPEAKER_02]: It's the accuracy on really deep throws, you know, we're talking a hundred feet, 30 yards,
- 9:46[SPEAKER_02]: or more if not 40 and things like that, he has really consistent accuracy on those big throws.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_02]: And that's what's so compelling about him.
- 9:56[SPEAKER_02]: In addition to the athleticism and the ability to do things when the play breaks down.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_02]: As a first part of the game, they were doing a good job mixing things up in the play calling, giving him some quick outs, quick options, and sort of some set plays, and kind of getting the offense into a rhythm, getting him into a rhythm.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_02]: I thought in particular once they missed the 41-yard field goal, now they're in the fourth quarter and they're down by two touchdowns.
- 10:29[SPEAKER_02]: I thought the play caller acted like
- 10:33[SPEAKER_02]: You know, like we're really behind and we really, you know, like this is a playoff and we need to, and we need to win this game at all costs.
- 10:42[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought the quarterback at that point, Malik will have started to press a little bit keep his eyes up trying to make a big play.
- 10:49[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas a couple of times he could have settled for something a little bit shorter and, you know,
- 10:57[SPEAKER_02]: That's, that's a given take because of quarterback does that too much, then we're criticizing him for that, like, you know, because you don't want to be a check band Charlie and all that.
- 11:06[SPEAKER_02]: So, so I think that he had a terrific game for a good part of it, and then it really started to to break apart and, you know, not all of that was really on him.
- 11:17[SPEAKER_02]: He had some discreet mistakes in the game.
- 11:19[SPEAKER_02]: I think there were too many unforce errors in the, in a game, probably about half of the
- 11:27[SPEAKER_02]: would be things, you know, you need him to go forward to have about half of those per game.
- 11:32[SPEAKER_02]: I think that really good quarterbacks get away with unforestered or stirring the game, but probably a few less than what you had in the game.
- 11:40[SPEAKER_02]: But not, agree just, leave us.
- 11:42[SPEAKER_02]: You know, so, so I think that it was a good start.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_02]: You saw the talent.
- 11:47[SPEAKER_02]: You saw the uncanny accuracy at all levels.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_02]: And, and you saw the scrambling ability that sometimes looks like frankly it's cheating.
- 11:57[SPEAKER_02]: And that, you know, looks like you're playing Madden with a 99 guy, a 99 speed guy, your quarterback position, and that's, that's the cheating look that we, that we want in the quarterback, you know, so.
- 12:10[SPEAKER_02]: So not an incomplete grade just just kind of.
- 12:14[SPEAKER_02]: A decent game and he looked like what he looked like, which is a guy with high talent and some NFL training, but not a lot of starting experience, you know, and the starting experience.
- 12:25[SPEAKER_02]: He's not a 30 game starter and and you're going to see that come with time and starts and you'll see better muscle memory on some of those delay game situations calling for the, you know, starting up the silent count and things like that.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 12:41[SPEAKER_03]: And just to put that to bed before we move on quickly here to the to the play calling that there was many instances in this game where Malik Wallace was was doing a check and you could see him he's on he's like it's on me.
- 12:54[SPEAKER_03]: I'm doing a check and he would look over and like hey.
- 12:57[SPEAKER_03]: Hey.
- 12:59[SPEAKER_03]: And even Malik Washington and Chris Bell killed Douglas Raw, guilty of this, they look back and I'm going, yeah, okay, I got it, yeah, you know, where Malik Wilson's like, are we on the same page here, you know, are you going to run the right route here when they snap this ball?
- 13:15[SPEAKER_03]: So yeah, it's, that's what it looked like.
- 13:17[SPEAKER_03]: It looked like a guy in the seventh start with a bunch of rookies.
- 13:20[SPEAKER_03]: And even some of the rookies that we really like, like we like the two starters, like we like Chris Bell, we like killed Douglass's, you know.
- 13:27[SPEAKER_03]: I thought he had a great game, you know, and there's, there's a lot to like there, even in, in, and everything that has nothing to do with his rock running and past catching ability.
- 13:36[SPEAKER_03]: or how he looks in a route, which he was fabulous in some of those routes, especially that that out that they called incomplete, and then he actually caught it, like, Guy almost crumbled off of that break, like, that's a great route by Hill Douglas.
- 13:51[SPEAKER_03]: But let's move on to the the play calling.
- 13:55[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, we could complain about a chance just not getting the ball enough.
- 14:01[SPEAKER_03]: My issue with the play calling is that this did not look like the team that they were selling for two months.
- 14:08[SPEAKER_03]: Like, I thought that we're going to be some gap power, some inside zone.
- 14:13[SPEAKER_03]: They were going to feature the run.
- 14:14[SPEAKER_03]: They were going to set up play action passes.
- 14:17[SPEAKER_03]: They didn't look that way.
- 14:19[SPEAKER_03]: They looked completely different in the first half.
- 14:22[SPEAKER_03]: Then they fell behind the droop within 1713, they give up the big kick off return, then it becomes two scores, and then it's just panic time.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_03]: We're just going to throw it all over the lot with seven stepped drops.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_03]: Were you surprised with that Simon that they kind of were not as advertised?
- 14:41[SPEAKER_03]: That this wasn't what we were expecting offensively.
- 14:45[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, but I really was and I said it earlier on about the number carries for
- 14:51[SPEAKER_01]: The HN3 touches and the second R4 runs called in total.
- 14:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not carrying the the the Milliguelist touchdown run because that was a, you know, that wasn't a design run.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, it's a scrum or um, I only got a sort of gel in right had one carry and then an HN had three in the second half.
- 15:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that was literally it.
- 15:09[SPEAKER_01]: And,
- 15:10[SPEAKER_01]: I find that found that staggering, especially when you've got the headguard, I mean, we joke that we've judged consistently over the months that, you know, the dolphins new front office and you had coach do exactly what they say, and two weeks ago I was on which eyes and show saying that, you know, and it was a yes, it was tongue-in-cheek, but, you know, you kind of got the idea, you know, saying that we're going to be games or a channel like touchable 40 times.
- 15:33[SPEAKER_01]: And actually, I think he had touched it, you have 11 carries and three catches like that to me is not reflective of what I expected whatsoever and they say and 16 total touch attempts because it was only five targets.
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I think Chris made the perfect.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: and most pertinent point of all on Sunday in our Discord chat, which was the, he said that you know, Slurick just began school board chasing rather than just playing to the script or to the to the plan.
- 16:02[SPEAKER_01]: And I think they went away from the plan so early.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: And that just seemed counter-adurities to what they were trying to do because it felt like there were times where the, you know,
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you had a couple of nice rounds and you thought, okay, if we keep working, it has marriage blocking well, the left side is blocking pretty well, run, blocking wise.
- 16:25[SPEAKER_01]: And they sort of went away from it.
- 16:26[SPEAKER_01]: They tried to run over the right side, and I shot on the third and one, which I thought was pretty foolish.
- 16:34[SPEAKER_01]: I just didn't like the overall game plan that he called, and I just felt like he was just planning and it felt like that Malik was pressing a bit too much, which I wasn't really expecting.
- 16:46[SPEAKER_01]: I don't wait to go, but I thought it was a kind of visible stop from Bobby Slewing.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: Chris.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Simon, I think he brought up a really good point there about, you know, we've been joking around about these guys doing exactly what they say they're going to do.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_02]: All off season long.
- 17:03[SPEAKER_02]: It's been a kind of a running thing and it's been uncanny.
- 17:06[SPEAKER_02]: This is the first time that's not happened, right?
- 17:10[SPEAKER_02]: They did not do what they said they were going to do in this game.
- 17:14[SPEAKER_02]: And that is, I think that is a really incredibly appropriate point to bring up because it means that, you know, Bobby Sloak is going to have to go to the principal's office and make sure that he understands the assignment.
- 17:28[SPEAKER_02]: Because in the game, I don't feel like he got away from the assignment.
- 17:33[SPEAKER_02]: And, you know, you're supposed to with a young team like this and I know some people are like, you should call every game like it's a playoff game.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_02]: You're supposed to be, this is a young team and you're supposed to be establishing identity and there's supposed to be establishing confidence and competence and identity in this game.
- 17:52[SPEAKER_02]: And I don't think you do that by chasing the scoreboard throughout the second half.
- 17:59[SPEAKER_02]: And, and to some degree, let's be honest, they have a lot of confidence in the
- 18:12[SPEAKER_02]: But it felt a little bit like like you have a candy dish thing situation with the quarterback and like you're just too tempted to keep going back to him and you paid for it why because you don't have the offensive line for that right like I know that then we were tired of talking about the offensive line year after year and I think to their credit you know on the all 22 I look back at it and that left side has the potential to be absolutely terrific.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_02]: And I mean Patrick Paul, our cadence proctor and all include Aaron Burr as the center in that left side.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_02]: They in past pro, they had the potential to be terrific.
- 18:53[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, I had some nitpicks with a few.
- 18:56[SPEAKER_02]: Pat Paul's past pro attempts, you know, kind of in the second half as things started to get out of me, but not really a big deal.
- 19:03[SPEAKER_02]: Yes, Kaden Proctor will make some mistakes, but importantly, you can already see it on the film.
- 19:09[SPEAKER_02]: He doesn't seem to be kind of kind of guy that repeats the mistakes.
- 19:12[SPEAKER_02]: So as a rookie, he's going to find every type of mistake in the book to make at some point or another.
- 19:19[SPEAKER_02]: but he's not the type to repeat them.
- 19:21[SPEAKER_02]: Jonas of Ionia was the opposite was the different story last year.
- 19:24[SPEAKER_02]: He repeated his mistakes over and over again and got, you know, worse as the seemingly as the season went on.
- 19:32[SPEAKER_02]: The right side of this line though on the other is not up the park.
- 19:37[SPEAKER_02]: And I will include Jonas of Ionia and that even though he's not the main problem, the main problem is Austin Jackson.
- 19:43[SPEAKER_02]: From wire to wire, I thought that there were really only two players in this game who struggled
- 19:49[SPEAKER_02]: from 1st quarter to 4th quarter, just all the way through, and that was one of them on the offensive side was Austin Jackson.
- 19:57[SPEAKER_02]: The more I looked at that all 22 of him in PASPR, granted he had a tough assignment at times.
- 20:03[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Max Crosby is a really great player, but he struggled
- 20:12[SPEAKER_02]: And and Jonas of Ionia while he is improved off of last year, there are still some things in past pro that seem just out of his grasp metaphorically and and sometimes literally, which is, you know, the the ability to make the decision about to be aware and to make the decision about sticking with his block versus handing off and picking up, you know, when it comes to stunts and twists and blitzes and things like that.
- 20:39[SPEAKER_02]: Those still that all see still seems just out of reach for him and so it's something that he's going to have to get better as the season goes on, which is going to be interesting to see because last year he didn't get better as the season went on so.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_02]: he's going to have to not do that again, you know, not get worse and start to lose confidence, which is what happened last year.
- 21:05[SPEAKER_02]: Right now, I think he's improved, but still clearly that right side, Austin Jackson was the worst offensive lineman of the day, and Jonas of Inaia was next, and so that right side is problematic, and while that right side is problematic, I don't care
- 21:23[SPEAKER_02]: You can't, you know, do everything himself.
- 21:26[SPEAKER_02]: You still need to call the game in a smart way in order to establish your identity.
- 21:33[SPEAKER_03]: All right, and we're going to go to break and we come back.
- 21:36[SPEAKER_03]: We will talk about the defense.
- 21:37[SPEAKER_03]: We will talk a little bit about the special teams which it's my biggest error.
- 21:43[SPEAKER_03]: I think that they lost the game.
- 21:45[SPEAKER_03]: Like if we're going to assign blame, number one has to go to the special teams unit, Chris Taber, much everybody involved from the punner to the kicker to R1 through 5 L1 through 5.
- 21:56[SPEAKER_03]: They were absolutely awful and the best thing about that is that you could review just the three kickoff attempts, all three were absolute disasters, but we'll get to that.
- 22:06[SPEAKER_03]: But first let me tell you about my book,
- 22:09[SPEAKER_03]: Football season is here and Thursdays, Saturdays, Sundays, Mondays, just got much more interesting.
- 22:19[SPEAKER_03]: If you're just betting the spread before kick off, you're leaving most of the game on the table, and that's why my bookie.

- 23:08[SPEAKER_03]: You guys want to start with the defense you want to do the five minutes on the on the special teams assignment.
- 23:14[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, this gets special things out the way because there's not really a little too bad, but it was terrible.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, it's, it's not much to review, right?
- 23:22[SPEAKER_03]: Like you watch three plays, it looks like they don't know what they're doing.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_03]: And if that's the call, essentially just running somebody into being, that having no pursuit and no peek and no engaging peek, what are you doing?
- 23:40[SPEAKER_03]: You essentially are allowing the opposing team to block two guys and get out into the open field.
- 23:46[SPEAKER_03]: and just match up a kick return with a kick off guy, with the kicker, Riley Patterson, over and over again.
- 23:53[SPEAKER_03]: And that's what happened twice.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_03]: And then finally one time, look, I don't have any evidence to this.
- 23:58[SPEAKER_03]: It just looked to me like, just kick it deep and let them start at the 35 yard line.
- 24:03[SPEAKER_03]: Because we're flirting with disaster here.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_03]: I was disheartened to watch that.
- 24:10[SPEAKER_03]: Because I don't think that that's a talent issue.
- 24:12[SPEAKER_03]: That's a stupidity issue.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_03]: That's a coaching issue.
- 24:15[SPEAKER_03]: It doesn't take a ton of talent to run into a lane or run really, really fast.
- 24:20[SPEAKER_03]: You know, we're to where you're designed to be.
- 24:24[SPEAKER_03]: So I was flabbergasted by that performance by the kickoff units.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_03]: Your thoughts, Simon.
- 24:32[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, look, I think you said it all quite frankly.
- 24:36[SPEAKER_01]: I think the other point that is worth mentioning is that, you know,
- 24:42[SPEAKER_01]: If there's no depth behind the starting 22 of which there really isn't, then there's no talent on special teams.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_01]: Generally, I think it's difficult to put players on special teams when you don't really have enough players to fill out the 22 starting offensive defense.
- 25:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then you really are getting into the weeds of players who, I said it last week, maybe 33, every 35, roster of all players give or take on this squad.
- 25:13[SPEAKER_01]: by any other metric shouldn't be playing in the NFL, necessarily, or would be on the fringes of practice scores and those sorts of things, and I don't know.
- 25:21[SPEAKER_01]: It's, I think the problem is for guys like a Ryan Miller, for example, you know, complete multiple specialties roles and it has done, you know, to miss tackles and do those sorts of things.
- 25:31[SPEAKER_01]: And I just think there's, you know, you're looking at the roster low hanging fruit, I think, in terms of guys who can just,
- 25:41[SPEAKER_01]: do that job to the level and the standard that is necessary, and it was pretty shocking to have to see you kicker or your pummel, just having to make multiple tackles in the game.
- 25:53[SPEAKER_01]: You know, when the kicker has more tackles than sharp robins, so that's me as an issue.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_01]: So, you know, I hope he gets fixed before it costs us, but...
- 26:05[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'd say for two out three of the of the new coordinate is it was it was a it was a slow start to see Yeah, Chris.
- 26:14[SPEAKER_02]: Well, you know, one thing about this is the question is Ryan Miller because he played he played You know, he's one of the leaders in special team snaps and he did have a missed tackle we saw and you know, he
- 26:34[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and this is why he's here and this is the only reason he's here.
- 26:38[SPEAKER_02]: I said before the game when the green Bay Packers cut, I believe they cut bow mountain, right?
- 26:44[SPEAKER_02]: Um, and put them on practice squad like once a clear waivers, they put them on practice squad.
- 26:51[SPEAKER_02]: And then they activated him for the game, so, you know, he was still active for the game, but they did some games with him, and I said, we're about to find out, you know, how much they really like Ryan Miller, because, you know, Bo Melton was a guy that they had in Green Bay, and he is a core specialty, if you look at, he played on five different special teams units, this weekend from the practice squad for the Green Bay Packers, right?
- 27:18[SPEAKER_02]: We stuck with Ryan Miller so we believe in Ryan Miller and then he goes out and repays them by having a terrible special teams deck.
- 27:24[SPEAKER_02]: So
- 27:25[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so I think that that's, you know, that's, that's kind of, uh, again, symbolic of, uh, of, of what was going on in a specialty.
- 27:32[SPEAKER_02]: And obviously not all bad.
- 27:34[SPEAKER_02]: They had a 79 yard ticket return.
- 27:36[SPEAKER_02]: And it was the, the longest kick return that we've had since Chikine Grant way back in the day, right?
- 27:41[SPEAKER_02]: Um, you know, and, and so I think that it's, it's a bit, the special teams was a bit like, uh, you know, some of the other units, the offensive and defensive units, where there was like, there's, there's a good one there.
- 27:52[SPEAKER_02]: There's a good kick return.
- 27:54[SPEAKER_02]: but there's some really poor kick coverage.
- 27:57[SPEAKER_02]: And I was really particularly disappointed when it looked like they had a couple of good returns.
- 28:04[SPEAKER_02]: I thought we were just going to boot it into the ends on the rest of the way.
- 28:07[SPEAKER_02]: You know, take it at the 35 whatever.
- 28:10[SPEAKER_02]: Because that's what I think you have to do in this league.
- 28:12[SPEAKER_02]: If it, if something's wrong on your coverage and you know, things are happening, then you just booted in the end so you take it at the 35 and you take the, uh, take the risk out of
- 28:24[SPEAKER_02]: Um, they didn't do that though, uh, and so they got burned, uh, that was, I think it was of the third, I think it was that third kickoff return, um, that they got burned, uh, so badly on.
- 28:39[SPEAKER_02]: Um, so, you know, that was a mistake, it was a mistake at every level of special teams.
- 28:44[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Ryan Miller, when you play in R1, which is the farthest to the right, and then you're, you're kick, you're kicking the ball to the right and they're going to return it that way.
- 28:53[SPEAKER_03]: There's just virtually no way you can allow the sideline.
- 28:56[SPEAKER_03]: There's just no way you're protecting the numbers out.
- 28:59[SPEAKER_03]: Like you essentially had to keep your leverage there.
- 29:02[SPEAKER_03]: You can't overrun the coverage, so he was right on that part.
- 29:04[SPEAKER_03]: But Jesus, man, you get blocked on one and then you missed the tackle on the other and they both go for 30 additional yards.
- 29:11[SPEAKER_03]: On you, like you're responsible for both, Maddening.
- 29:16[SPEAKER_03]: All right, on the defense,
- 29:18[SPEAKER_03]: look, I thought Jacob Rodriguez was fabulous, physically, okay.
- 29:22[SPEAKER_03]: But I spoke about this before.
- 29:25[SPEAKER_03]: And I talked about it on our discord.
- 29:26[SPEAKER_03]: And by the way, you want to become a member, go to discord.gg4slash.
- 29:30[SPEAKER_03]: Only friends, you see the name right there.
- 29:32[SPEAKER_03]: Check the link in the description.
- 29:34[SPEAKER_03]: I talked about it on Discord, I think Kubiak was having a little fun with him in the first half, running those zipper motions, and he was correctly identifying, I guess that's something that he saw on film or whatever, something that maybe Seattle did last year, where if they're snapping it within the tackle box, it's an inside run, so he's checking, he's checking on his offensive on his defensive line, he's putting guys into gaps, they were running outside, and he was
- 30:02[SPEAKER_03]: Maybe in the second half I think and I think this is what happened.
- 30:05[SPEAKER_03]: I think half Lee sat with and he kind of alluded a little bit to it today in his availability Jeff Adfali, but I think probably sat with Jacob Rodriguez and said look trust me a little bit on this, right?
- 30:16[SPEAKER_03]: Trust my calls and it'll go a long way because it was night and day as far as the brain game, but physically Jacob Rodriguez was fabulous and I was pretty excited about him
- 30:28[SPEAKER_03]: So who are you excited about on the deep into set of the ball, Simon?
- 30:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I thought Rodrigues played really well.
- 30:36[SPEAKER_01]: You know, you kind of looking, look, look, with a similar stage.
- 30:39[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, was it clean?
- 30:40[SPEAKER_01]: Nope.
- 30:41[SPEAKER_01]: Was it perfect?
- 30:42[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely not.
- 30:44[SPEAKER_01]: But was it just a really, really, really solid?
- 30:48[SPEAKER_01]: generally performance.
- 30:49[SPEAKER_01]: And you're looking for a guy in his first game.
- 30:51[SPEAKER_01]: How many assignments are you going to blow, given the other green dot, right?
- 30:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I don't think there was anything much on there that you were like, oh, God, he's lying this up and they're on call, they're on this, they're on that.
- 31:02[SPEAKER_01]: And it wasn't like he's playing Fernando Mendoza.
- 31:04[SPEAKER_01]: It wasn't like he was playing Millie Gullis, a guy who's only had very few starts.
- 31:09[SPEAKER_01]: He was playing Kirkusons, a guy who was started for 10, 12 years in the NFL,
- 31:18[SPEAKER_01]: You know, and Kirk wasn't able to, you know, fake him out, remove him out of position, all of those sort of things.
- 31:25[SPEAKER_01]: I thought he got much, much more comfortable in the second half.
- 31:27[SPEAKER_01]: He just really attacks the line of scrimmage.
- 31:29[SPEAKER_01]: He comes down here.
- 31:30[SPEAKER_01]: He reads the game really well.
- 31:32[SPEAKER_01]: I think there's there were a few occasions I saw I didn't watch all of the old 22, but there were a few occasions I saw in the second half where I saw in the first half where he just got picked off a couple of times by climbing the line, which I kind of like to see a little bit less of.
- 31:44[SPEAKER_01]: It was something that was in his game a little bit.
- 31:46[SPEAKER_01]: It takes his take to sometimes where Joss was unable to at the kind of apex point was just unable to get off the of the block.
- 31:54[SPEAKER_01]: But that'll come, I think, but just generally, he just comes in like an ex or set missile.
- 31:59[SPEAKER_01]: He doesn't miss tackles.
- 32:01[SPEAKER_01]: He's pretty much wearing needs to be on almost every snap, and I think him and Jordan Brooks just can eat your better and better and better as the season goes on.
- 32:08[SPEAKER_01]: So to me, he was the absolute right point.
- 32:10[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, you know, Chris will talk about them because he kind of utilizes about them on this court and on social, but I thought that the safety is pretty good.
- 32:17[SPEAKER_01]: I thought Taff had some moments that Trader had some moments.
- 32:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'll let you pick up on those Chris and I also thought like I just got to give a bit of a nod to Chris Johnson, who obviously, like I hate to turn ball watches or ball-knowers or that's something because I just think it's a sort of wank thing that people say, it's like so shit.
- 32:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I do think there is a category of people who just look at the box score or a specific play that is a failed play, for example, like I was watching the chiefs
- 32:52[SPEAKER_01]: Denver game.
- 32:54[SPEAKER_01]: This morning before work and I was just sitting there and I was really intrigued by the kitten that had playing at left tackle because I quite liked him at Indiana but he'd never played left tackle in his life played dark.
- 33:03[SPEAKER_01]: All right, oh he did an outstanding job.
- 33:07[SPEAKER_01]: Yet were there a couple of moments where one V1 against Nick Bonito, one of the best, most explosive fastest pass rushes in the NFL.
- 33:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, if I don't think I heard Benito's name once in any kind of capacity of, there were a couple of times when he got around the edge, but Pat just stepped up and there was no real pressure.
- 33:30[SPEAKER_01]: He was killing people in the run game.
- 33:32[SPEAKER_01]: I saw somebody three this morning after the game and just saying that, oh, you know, his past protection was really poor.
- 33:40[SPEAKER_01]: And that one, there was one red web in
- 33:43[SPEAKER_01]: up the arc and underneath this wing a little bit, kind of force, and that was really it.
- 33:48[SPEAKER_01]: And it was just like, this is the perfect to put me of what I'm talking about.
- 33:52[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody takes one play out of, I don't know how any play 65 offensive plays that Chiefs ran last night, where generally I thought that God was outstanding, never played it.
- 34:01[SPEAKER_01]: Never played left tackle.
- 34:02[SPEAKER_01]: I need you week one of the new seasons of rookie.
- 34:05[SPEAKER_01]: He's going to protect the best quarterback of a generation.
- 34:08[SPEAKER_01]: And you're doing it against an all-pro-edged Russia, who's going to be one of you want to get to you.
- 34:12[SPEAKER_01]: and his name is Nick Benito.
- 34:13[SPEAKER_01]: He comes up with a ball faster or as fast as anybody in this league over the past five eight years and I just think it's it's that kind of thing and you look at the situations with Johnson where he gets beat for the two touchdowns and you know without the and I look I was guilty of it a little bit you know.
- 34:34[SPEAKER_01]: We don't know the cause, we don't know who's supposed to be wearing.
- 34:37[SPEAKER_01]: I think it half came out, but I was to think that the safety's I saw it into your taff today where he came out.
- 34:42[SPEAKER_01]: So look at what's my responsibility.
- 34:43[SPEAKER_01]: I actually went there over the top and I wasn't, you know, and Chris is in that situation and, you know, and I think that speaks really well to the leadership of these guys, but, you know, I thought Johnson had a pretty hard time.
- 34:52[SPEAKER_01]: And he's been asked to take on, you know, play outside, play inside, do this against others, who just holds back as a, it's a lot to take on for a kid.
- 35:04[SPEAKER_02]: Yeah, I think that as far as Chris Johnson goes, I really did feel like only two players who played, you know, more or less the full game.
- 35:15[SPEAKER_02]: Struggled kind of from wire to wire and I mentioned one of them was awesome Jackson on the offensive side.
- 35:20[SPEAKER_02]: The other was Chris Johnson and that's just because listen.
- 35:25[SPEAKER_02]: There's something wrong at the community level at the game planning level at the schematic level if you're allowing your rookie who is.
- 35:35[SPEAKER_02]: put who has a lot put on his plate as he just said he's playing outside he's playing inside he's been lined up in the box he's playing you know he's playing all of the place um if you're allowing the Las Vegas Raiders to run their passing offense through him the entire game which is exactly what they did over a third of their targeted attempts in this game were on Chris Johnson.
- 35:59[SPEAKER_02]: And that was, and so they were isolating him all over the place and it was a setting where I don't know what he probably could have done except struggle.
- 36:13[SPEAKER_02]: And so I think that he was done a disservice, but at the same time, you know, yeah, he had a bad name.
- 36:28[SPEAKER_02]: That there was there was help that should have came and and it wasn't there and that he had the proper leverage, but at the same time, I think while you could point to that, I could point to a couple of incomplete passes on on Chris Johnson's, you know coverage where.
- 36:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, Kirk Cousins, he's not what he used to be.
- 36:47[SPEAKER_02]: He clearly struggled with the two picks and he struggled with the fur of the ball down field and so I think that I think that there were there were things that the Raiders left on the field.
- 36:59[SPEAKER_02]: that they could have done even more to Chris Johnson.
- 37:03[SPEAKER_02]: So you've got to get that figured out.
- 37:04[SPEAKER_02]: You've got to leave a rookie out to, you know, to defend for himself, you know, on Chris Johnson Island, all day long, and get, you know,
- 37:17[SPEAKER_02]: torched like that you're going to run into a confidence problem.
- 37:21[SPEAKER_02]: So they need to figure that out.
- 37:23[SPEAKER_02]: The defense was a tale of two to have just like the offense, you know, 10 drives and the first five of them were absolutely abysmal and I don't know what else to call, you know, five drives where you allow 50 yards of drive, six yards of play, 24 points on those five drives, which is pretty terrible.
- 37:43[SPEAKER_02]: And, and, you know, I think that that's the way it was.
- 37:46[SPEAKER_02]: It wasn't as bad as it could be only because they did have the pick off from Michael Taff.
- 37:52[SPEAKER_02]: You mentioned the safety, so I'll talk about that second.
- 37:55[SPEAKER_02]: But they did have the pick off and they should have had a turnover on down.
- 37:58[SPEAKER_02]: I thought I was firmly in the camp that thought that that review overturn was was ridiculous.
- 38:04[SPEAKER_02]: I think they should have had a turnover on downs on that play.
- 38:07[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, half of the game was really bad, but you know what?
- 38:11[SPEAKER_02]: The second half of the second half?
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: Five drives?
- 38:13[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what else you would call this.
- 38:15[SPEAKER_02]: If it were any other team in the league and you're looking at five drives and they only allow two yards of play, you know, ten, maybe ten yards of drive.
- 38:26[SPEAKER_02]: off on the five drives, three points that's it.
- 38:29[SPEAKER_02]: And those three points came off of a sudden change turnover, too.
- 38:33[SPEAKER_02]: Like, you know, an intersection sudden change, which is defense is typically struggle on sudden change.
- 38:40[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what you call that except terrific defense.
- 38:44[SPEAKER_02]: And so for the second half of this game and five drives, they were terrific defensively.
- 38:51[SPEAKER_02]: And we don't want to
- 38:57[SPEAKER_02]: and the scoreboard left a bad taste in number of and everything about this game left a bad taste in number of but I don't care if you take all that aside and take the emotion out of it and you just take a review on all 22 those five drives they were they were really good defensively and what was the difference I think Jeff Hathley actually nailed it is something that I talked about on on only fence and then here comes Jeff Hathley and it's
- 39:21[SPEAKER_02]: Press conference, he's talking about the defensive front players and how they played more physically and more, you know, more aggressively and brutally up front a little bit later in the game, how they were playing tentative at first and, you know, hesitant and that hesitation showed up as the the Raiders just ran all over them and did whatever they wanted to do.
- 39:45[SPEAKER_02]: essentially.
- 39:46[SPEAKER_02]: But then in the last five and the first five drives, but in the last five drives, they did not.
- 39:51[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought there was a ratcheting up of the physicality from Zack Sealer.
- 39:55[SPEAKER_02]: He led it.
- 39:56[SPEAKER_02]: on the defense of front as you would hope he would because he's in position to do that, but also, you know, Jordan Phillips was was far more physical on those those second five drives.
- 40:08[SPEAKER_02]: You even got guys like Josh Uchi getting in there and being physical chop Robinson was much more physical and had plays where he affected the outcome of the play because he was, you know, very physical and aggressive and and playing like that.
- 40:22[SPEAKER_02]: And I thought that everybody kind of got in in on it and then the linebackers as a result of all that were able to play so downhill in those five drives it was it looked to me night and day.
- 40:35[SPEAKER_02]: And with the downhill linebacker play, which is going to be the strength of this defense this year, if such as it is, as there is any strength in the defense this year, the linebacker unit will be the strength of it.
- 40:48[SPEAKER_02]: It really got into the action.
- 40:50[SPEAKER_02]: And if you're the Miami Dolphins, you're going to try to throw away those first five drives.
- 40:54[SPEAKER_02]: Say, everybody was tentative.
- 40:56[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you didn't get it on the defense.
- 40:59[SPEAKER_02]: Maybe you don't get the scheme.
- 41:00[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know what it is.
- 41:01[SPEAKER_02]: But we're going to build on those second five drives.
- 41:04[SPEAKER_02]: And they're going to try to do that.
- 41:05[SPEAKER_02]: Of course, they're going to face better teams.
- 41:07[SPEAKER_02]: So so that's that's the real challenge.
- 41:10[SPEAKER_02]: But yeah, I thought that the defense in the second half of it was actually quite good, aggressively playing defensively playing downhill from the linebackers playing aggressively, I think, even in the play calls and and then the, you know, putting putting guys in the box and
- 41:29[SPEAKER_02]: And things like that.
- 41:31[SPEAKER_02]: And I think that, yes, the scoreboard did kind of help that, but, but yeah, so you're going to build on that.
- 41:37[SPEAKER_02]: You're going to try to get get better from that and then see if now the safety is you mentioned.
- 41:42[SPEAKER_02]: Pick off from Dante Trader and Michael Taff.
- 41:44[SPEAKER_02]: You know, good ass.
- 41:47[SPEAKER_02]: But didn't the jets have like an entire season without a pick off?
- 41:52[SPEAKER_02]: We got to and we got to in the first game from these guys.
- 41:57[SPEAKER_02]: And Dante Trader's pickoff in particular was fantastic.
- 42:00[SPEAKER_02]: It was a is very good read on the ball.
- 42:03[SPEAKER_02]: And so, so you're going to want to build on that, I thought the safety is did play well, but then again, somebody wasn't in position on the plays that Jeff Haffley is talking about, where, you know, Chris Johnson was hung out to drink.
- 42:18[SPEAKER_02]: So, that suggests that the safety's were involved and maybe a couple of those plays.
- 42:24[SPEAKER_02]: So, you know, pay attention to that.
- 42:27[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, Simon, what you were talking about, I saw a perfect example of that on Twitter where somebody was posting a video of Jalen Carter beating Sam Cosmy for a sack.
- 42:38[SPEAKER_03]: And I don't know, you know, he put something like, oh, you know, this clown camp blocked Jalen Carter on two years.
- 42:45[SPEAKER_03]: And then the charge Bentley pipe sentences, that's the only rep that Sam Cosmy has lost the Jalen Carter in two years.
- 42:52[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, code is an unbelievable player.
- 42:55[SPEAKER_01]: Like an unbelievable
- 42:57[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah.
- 42:59[SPEAKER_03]: So let's finish up here with the defensive line which I thought was disappointing to see because the ask me in training camp and coming into the season, what's the worst unit on this defense safety?
- 43:13[SPEAKER_03]: What's the best unit on this defense defense of tackles?
- 43:17[SPEAKER_03]: It was reversed.
- 43:19[SPEAKER_03]: These safety's even on the All-202.
- 43:21[SPEAKER_03]: And look, I hate to just get too excited about these guys, but I thought that they would get threatened a bit in this game.
- 43:29[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't think that there was much danger for Jason Marshall who I did not think played all that great.
- 43:34[SPEAKER_03]: I thought, dude, you Brents played well, but he wasn't facing much, so it's hard to judge him.
- 43:40[SPEAKER_03]: But I think we could judge the safety.
- 43:41[SPEAKER_03]: I thought they were really good.
- 43:42[SPEAKER_03]: I thought the defensive tackles were poor.
- 43:45[SPEAKER_03]: And as far as a fix, I guess, kind of the grant coming back, but one thing I do want to see is, I think, Cleo and Faro played 11 snaps.
- 43:54[SPEAKER_03]: I think I have to play a little bit more.
- 44:00[SPEAKER_03]: at least.
- 44:01[SPEAKER_03]: But what do you make for that?
- 44:03[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, because I really liked the safety.
- 44:05[SPEAKER_03]: I was disappointed with the deepest of tackles Jordan Phillips.
- 44:08[SPEAKER_03]: I didn't think it was very good in the first half.
- 44:11[SPEAKER_03]: What did you make of their performance?
- 44:13[SPEAKER_03]: It was disheartening because that's kind of like a unit that you wanted to hang your head on.
- 44:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I'm a big fan of Jordan today.
- 44:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think you
- 44:25[SPEAKER_01]: by Tyler Lindemann and looking into one of the best players in the league of his position.
- 44:30[SPEAKER_01]: Let's be fair.
- 44:31[SPEAKER_01]: I thought it was excellent, but after a pretty slow start, I thought it was a bigger struggle a little bit.
- 44:35[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, actually, I thought, probably the most promising reps came from Keith Creeper in many regards.
- 44:43[SPEAKER_01]: I was worried about the play of hearing, I thought he just looked over matched and there was that play where he was just going around in a washing machine.
- 44:52[SPEAKER_01]: It was just pretty ugly.
- 44:55[SPEAKER_01]: I thought, yeah, I just generally the defensive line just wasn't great.
- 45:00[SPEAKER_01]: I thought play better in the second half, but also like, you know, I didn't love, I know Chris,
- 45:07[SPEAKER_01]: more so enjoyed for the wrong word and it was, I think, a right word.
- 45:15[SPEAKER_01]: up here with a short longer distance performance than I think I was.
- 45:20[SPEAKER_01]: I think you need to look at who he's going up against.
- 45:22[SPEAKER_01]: I think Colton Miller was a top 7 tackle in 2024.
- 45:26[SPEAKER_01]: He obviously had the injury last year in belly played.
- 45:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think it looked like he was back to being a top 7 tackle at worst.
- 45:35[SPEAKER_01]: On Sunday, I thought everything he did looked pretty easy.
- 45:40[SPEAKER_01]: and you know what you want to see obviously is sad.
- 45:44[SPEAKER_01]: But, and again, that's back to the point that we talked about earlier on.
- 45:47[SPEAKER_01]: Everything is judged on sacks or pressures, everything is judged on picks or intersections or generally mean.
- 45:54[SPEAKER_01]: If Malik when it's had played,
- 45:57[SPEAKER_01]: all of the game, the way that he played the first half, but thrown that intersection, and then carried on playing really well until the end, everybody was like, oh, that pic though, you know, he threw that pic of that, I saw that pic, it was terrible, it's, it's a kind of disease, of you, you've got lots of people who,
- 46:13[SPEAKER_01]: where you dig into the film, I come away with their own individual opinions.
- 46:17[SPEAKER_01]: That's really us doing the same.
- 46:18[SPEAKER_01]: We all come at it from through different lenses, but we're putting the work in, we might agree with each other the whole time, that's kind of fun of the podcast and I think that's probably why people listen.
- 46:27[SPEAKER_01]: And then you got people who just don't do that and that's absolutely fine.
- 46:30[SPEAKER_01]: There's lots of other things to be doing in the world rather than sitting there geeking out over, you know, I learned a man looking around from different angles.
- 46:38[SPEAKER_01]: but I think it speaks in a little bit to the kind of that.
- 46:40[SPEAKER_01]: So of he's a man, he's a man, he's a kind of mentality.
- 46:45[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you know, there's a reason for everything and you know, it's not just like, I really like the, and I'm probably gonna miss pronounce his name, Ted Gwyn, the guy from the athletic.
- 46:58[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, join a Gwyn.
- 47:00[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, who tweeted something in the last, you know,
- 47:05[SPEAKER_01]: half an hour, something about how you've just been watching the liquids and so actually I came away like really into use thought you try and do him the honor of actually.
- 47:14[SPEAKER_01]: Okay, I'm suppose his name right.
- 47:17[SPEAKER_01]: Anyway, we all know who we mean, I mean, but he came away just kind of saying that he was really accused by the way that he played and thought that, you know, there's way better stuff on tape than than he'd envisaged.
- 47:33[SPEAKER_01]: And one of the responses was like, you know, I just don't think he, yeah, the arm
- 47:38[SPEAKER_01]: Ah, here we go, is exactly what I said.
- 47:41[SPEAKER_01]: All of you, Malik, when it's played a really good game, receivers, other than Douglas, had a hard time getting open, and he had no help from his running game, made some big time throws.
- 47:49[SPEAKER_01]: Somebody replied, he looked just a guy to me, not explosive, not twitchy, okay arm, accuracy, okay, nothing special, to which to reply, okay arm is crazy.
- 48:00[SPEAKER_01]: And then somebody called Yeti Eddie replied, you, you, not wire you, but you, mean like her backup.
- 48:08[SPEAKER_01]: And that kind of, I think, just underlines some of the issues, I think that you get when you have the kind of the, he's terrible versus the, okay, he's a bit more considered, you know, I did something for Dolphins to talk on a Monday morning without watching your 22, which is a bit sort of, right,
- 48:26[SPEAKER_01]: and stream this blur and actually I kind of want to pull it back a little bit afterwards because you like the real 2021 hasn't come out but you kind of do want to react to what you saw and what you see in the moment is kind of different when you take a you know we're all very reactionary whilst games are happening and that sort of stuff we all have players and plays and things that we like and don't like and stuff and yeah I just I think that there are two very clear discourses in you know I think in life generally but certainly when we're
- 48:54[SPEAKER_01]: does that he sucks crowd and that okay let me talk to you about this kind of thing because this wasn't working because of that and yeah that's kind of where we are.
- 49:02[SPEAKER_01]: I don't know if that answered your question.
- 49:03[SPEAKER_01]: I don't remember what your question was.
- 49:04[SPEAKER_03]: I've been talking for about three days but yeah Chris put a bow on it.
- 49:10[SPEAKER_02]: Do you want to answer your question though about the defense line?
- 49:14[SPEAKER_02]: Yes they were disappointing with to me because I didn't I didn't think that they were going to be the the most questionable aspect just like you.
- 49:22[SPEAKER_02]: And in that first half of those first five drives, they were the most questionable aspect of a questionable defense, and we'll more than questionable defense, a physical defense, so, you know, yeah, I was I was very disappointed by that.
- 49:37[SPEAKER_02]: I didn't think that that would happen.
- 49:39[SPEAKER_02]: I think that Jeff halfway probably had the right observation though that there was a lot of.
- 49:43[SPEAKER_02]: tentativeness and hesitation involved in what the defensive line and front players were doing in the first half of the game.
- 49:52[SPEAKER_02]: I did think that there was a change.
- 49:55[SPEAKER_02]: Again, I, and I wanted to go to what I wanted to go to the alternative and I wanted to specifically look at these drives and look at, you know, second, second half drives versus first half drives.
- 50:06[SPEAKER_02]: and there was a difference.
- 50:08[SPEAKER_02]: There was a difference in how those defensive front players were playing.
- 50:12[SPEAKER_02]: Does that carry over into, you know, more games in the rest of the season?
- 50:16[SPEAKER_02]: I don't know.
- 50:18[SPEAKER_02]: You know, certainly your defensive line is not going to be carried by a Keith Cooper.
- 50:23[SPEAKER_02]: So I think that, I think that, you know, it's something to watch to go forward, but it's actually a player played a lot better in those latter five drives.
- 50:34[SPEAKER_02]: I thought Jordan Phillips played a lot better in those latter five drives.
- 50:37[SPEAKER_02]: I thought that Chop Robinson played better in those latter five drives.
- 50:41[SPEAKER_02]: I thought they kind of started to look like the unit that you were hoping to see.
- 50:46[SPEAKER_02]: Whereas the safeties, I am a little reticent to sing their praises completely because they made some plays and they did some good things.
- 50:56[SPEAKER_02]: And things that certainly would catch the eyes of PF creators and things like that.
- 51:03[SPEAKER_02]: When you have a Jeff Hathley talking about how Chris Johnson was in the right leverage and his help didn't come, who's that help most likely to be.
- 51:12[SPEAKER_02]: So so red flag there, you know, just being honest with ourselves and not knowing and not knowing exactly all the time, every time we see something on the all 22 exactly what the assignments are supposed to be.
- 51:26[SPEAKER_02]: We can kind of we can kind of sus that out, but sometimes it's not obvious.
- 51:31[SPEAKER_02]: So we have to be, we have to be a little bit careful on the safety.
- 51:36[SPEAKER_02]: One last thing I'll say about Malikarian versus, you know, Klovin Ferrell is that Klovin Ferrell has been here since July 27th.
- 51:46[SPEAKER_02]: Malikarian just got here as part of final cuts.
- 51:51[SPEAKER_02]: Um, our part of the, the, the claimings and such after final cuts, really carrying obviously had a very challenged game overall.
- 51:59[SPEAKER_02]: Uh, so, you know, I think we have to keep that in mind.
- 52:02[SPEAKER_02]: The guys that.
- 52:03[SPEAKER_02]: He said he's spinning around like, well, yeah, I'm sure his head is spinning because he doesn't know what the hell he's doing on this deep and so I think that I think that we have to keep that in mind, but you know, I think it's probably a fair point to bring up that perhaps fair on these to play more.
- 52:21[SPEAKER_02]: uh, so on and so forth.
- 52:23[SPEAKER_02]: Um, but I think that again, going back to if the defensive line can continue to play the way they did in the second half of the game, uh, and if the linebackers can continue to play downhill as they did, um, and if the secondary can start to get themselves straightened out and protect Chris Johnson a little bit better than we're probably going to see different defensive performances than what we saw out there this weekend, however,
- 52:49[SPEAKER_02]: we're going to be facing better references.
- 52:50[SPEAKER_02]: So, so that's the caveat.
- 52:54[SPEAKER_02]: And we don't know how that's going to go.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_03]: All right.
- 52:57[SPEAKER_03]: And we're going to leave right there.
- 52:58[SPEAKER_03]: On Cloud and Phone, you got to remember the guy missed three weeks of camp and only practiced the last practice of training camp.
- 53:06[SPEAKER_03]: So, maybe that had something to do with his 11 snaps.
- 53:10[SPEAKER_03]: So, maybe he'll be wrapping up here and playing
- 53:14[SPEAKER_02]: He's also not on the active roster.
- 53:16[SPEAKER_02]: He's not on the 53 man roster.
- 53:18[SPEAKER_02]: He's appropriate to score and play.
- 53:20[SPEAKER_03]: Yeah, although he was wasn't in the original depth chart like way up there, and then He just finds himself on the practice squad.
- 53:30[SPEAKER_03]: But what we'll see going forward.
- 53:32[SPEAKER_03]: We'll talk about this game.
- 53:33[SPEAKER_03]: Against the 49ers on Thursday.
- 53:36[SPEAKER_03]: We'll preview it.
- 53:37[SPEAKER_03]: Tomorrow is three YPCCFP.
