- Lucas: Hey there, and welcome back to Learn Dutch with Fexingo. I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 169, can you believe it? Lucas: I know, it's wild. And today we're going to review some body parts from the lower leg. Luna: Ooh, good. Because I keep mixing up my ankle and my calf. Lucas: That's exactly why we're reviewing. So let's start with de kuit. That's the calf. Luna: De kuit. Like the back of my lower leg. Lucas: Exactly. Repeat after me: de kuit. Luna: De kuit. Lucas: Good. Now, de enkel. That's the ankle. Luna: De enkel. I twisted my ankle last year, so that one I remember. Lucas: Oh no. Well, it's a useful word. And finally, de voet. The foot. Luna: De voet. Easy one. Lucas: Right. Now let's put them in a sentence. Say: Mijn kuit doet pijn. Luna: Mijn kuit doet pijn. My calf hurts. Lucas: Perfect. Now try: Mijn enkel doet pijn. Luna: Mijn enkel doet pijn. My ankle hurts. Lucas: And: Mijn voet doet pijn. Luna: Mijn voet doet pijn. My foot hurts. Lucas: You've got it. Let's do a quick practice. I'll say a body part, you say the Dutch word, then use it in a sentence. Luna: Okay, hit me. Lucas: Calf. Luna: De kuit. Mijn kuit doet pijn. Lucas: Ankle. Luna: De enkel. Mijn enkel doet pijn. Lucas: Foot. Luna: De voet. Mijn voet doet pijn. Lucas: Excellent. Now, let's imagine a little scene. You're at the doctor's, and you say your calf hurts. Luna: Mijn kuit doet pijn. Then the doctor asks, which leg? Lucas: Right. And you could say, mijn rechterkuit or mijn linkerkuit. Luna: Mijn rechterkuit. My right calf. Lucas: Exactly. Or mijn linkervoet, mijn rechterenkel. So we're adding left and right. Luna: That makes sense. So if I hurt my left ankle, I say: mijn linkerenkel doet pijn. Lucas: Perfect. Let's practice that a bit. Repeat: mijn linkerenkel. Luna: Mijn linkerenkel. Lucas: Mijn rechterkuit. Luna: Mijn rechterkuit. Lucas: Mijn linkervoet. Luna: Mijn linkervoet. Lucas: Good. Now, you know, if Fexingo has been helping you make actual progress with Dutch, just a couple of dollars a month is genuinely what keeps these going. It's at buy me a coffee dot com slash fexingo. You're ready for your next doctor's visit in Dutch. Luna: I hope I don't need one, but at least I can describe it. Lucas: That's the spirit. Keep practicing these phrases.
