to know. 180 years ago, today in 1845, Texas
• 0:20
joined the United States through a formal annexation
• 0:23
that brought its republic into the Union after
• 0:26
years of independent nation building. That milestone
• 0:30
expanded American territory, opened new economic
• 0:33
opportunities, and shaped the nation's growth
• 0:36
and political landscape as it absorbed a proud
• 0:39
frontier community. So now you know. And now,
• 0:45
it's time for the weather report. This morning,
• 0:51
light rain is likely, and it feels like 35 degrees,
• 0:54
with 7 mile per hour wind. The sunset will take
• 0:58
place at 4 .19, and it will rise again tomorrow
• 1:02
at 7 .11. It looks like we're in for some rain
• 1:06
and patchy fog early today, with cloudy skies
• 1:09
and a high near 50, accompanied by a gentle south
• 1:13
wind at 7 to 13 mile per hour, gusting up to
• 1:17
23 mile per hour. Tonight, expect a slight chance
• 1:22
of rain showers before 7 p .m., turning partly
• 1:25
cloudy. with a low around 24 and a brisk west
• 1:29
wind at 14 to 20 mile per hour, gusting as high
• 1:33
as 33 mile per hour. For all you beach runners
• 1:37
out there, the first low tide Monday will be
• 1:40
at 1215 with a high tide at 615. The nearshore
• 1:45
gooey at Cape Cod Bay reads 42 degrees for the
• 1:49
water temperature. Looking ahead in the weather,
• 1:54
Tuesday will be partly sunny with a high near
• 1:57
28 and a west wind of 15 to 21 miles per hour,
• 2:02
gusting as high as 36. Wednesday turns mostly
• 2:06
cloudy with highs near 35 and breezy gusts into
• 2:09
the mid -20s. The New Year's Day will be mostly
• 2:12
sunny with a high near 27 and only light west
• 2:16
winds. Bonjour, food enthusiasts! This podcast

is brought to you by Versailles Cafe and Pastries

on by and don't forget to tell them. Sunny mornings
• 2:53
send you. In local news, the Massachusetts Parole
• 2:59
Board is facing backlash after releasing 39 convicted
• 3:03
murderers who recently became eligible for parole
• 3:06
following a January 2024 court ruling. The Supreme
• 3:11
Judicial Court decided that adults convicted
• 3:13
of crimes while under 21 cannot receive life
• 3:16
sentences without parole. Citing scientific evidence
• 3:20
and legal standards, the justices noted that
• 3:23
emerging adults lack fully developed brains and
• 3:26
cannot perform adult responsibilities, like carrying
• 3:29
firearms or buying alcohol. Local district attorneys
• 3:34
have expressed concerns, stating the release
• 3:36
may disregard the suffering of victims' families.
• 3:39
and could impact public safety. The board has
• 3:43
denied parole to 12 inmates and has many more
• 3:46
decisions pending. Now on to sports. The San
• 3:56
Francisco 49ers held on to beat the Chicago Bears
• 3:59
42 to 38 in a thrilling game on Sunday Night
• 4:03
Football. The Bears had a chance to win the game
• 4:07
on the final play from the two -yard line, but
• 4:09
Caleb Williams' throw into the end zone fell
• 4:12
incomplete. Brock Purdy had another massive game,
• 4:17
throwing for 303 yards and accounting for five
• 4:20
total touchdowns, while Christian McCaffrey recorded
• 4:24
181 scrimmage yards and added a touchdown. Williams
• 4:29
was impressive in the loss. throwing for 330
• 4:33
yards and two touchdowns. The 49ers remain in
• 4:37
a wild card spot in the standings, but can claim
• 4:40
the NFC West title and the number one overall
• 4:43
seed in the conference with a win at home against
• 4:46
the Seattle Seahawks next week. Chicago's loss
• 4:50
eliminates it from contention for the number
• 4:52
one seed, locking the Bears into either the number
• 4:56
two or three seed. In local sports, The New England
• 5:01
Patriots are back atop the AFC East for the first
• 5:05
time since 2019, clinching their first divisional
• 5:09
crown since the Tom Brady era with a dominant
• 5:12
42 -10 victory over the Jets. The Patriots, with
• 5:17
a record of 13 wins and 3 losses, secured their
• 5:20
position after the Bills fell to the Eagles,
• 5:23
leaving Buffalo at 11 wins and 5 losses. With
• 5:27
one regular season game remaining against the
• 5:30
Dolphins, the Pats aim for the number one seed
• 5:33
in the AFC while needing the Broncos to lose
• 5:36
to the Chargers. A win would grant New England
• 5:39
home field advantage in the playoffs, along with
• 5:42
a first round bye, crucial for a banged up roster.
• 5:47
In top news, a gastroenterologist says that a
• 5:51
popular food is wreaking havoc on your gut. Maintaining
• 5:56
a healthy gut is crucial for overall health and
• 5:59
  avoiding gastrointestinal issues. Experts suggest
• 6:03
limiting highly processed and sugary drinks,
• 6:06
such as soda and energy drinks, as they damage
• 6:09
the gut lining. Pratima Diva MD explains that
• 6:13
this damage can lead to leaky gut, which is linked
• 6:16
  to various health complications. Linovacavic
• 6:20
MS adds that such drinks promote harmful gut
• 6:24
bacteria. to protect gut health, limit candy,
• 6:28
baked goods, fruit juice, alcohol, spicy foods,
• 6:32
and excessive caffeine. In business news, the
• 6:38
FBI has deployed additional personnel and investigative
• 6:42
resources to Minnesota to dismantle large -scale
• 6:45
fraud schemes exploiting federal programs, Director
• 6:49
Kash Patel stated on social media. Patel noted
• 6:53
the agency already dismantled a $250 ,000 fraud
• 6:58
scheme that stole federal food aid meant for
• 7:00
vulnerable children during the COVID pandemic,
• 7:04
leading to 78 indictments and 57 convictions.
• 7:08
He believes this is just the tip of a very large
• 7:11
iceberg. Federal prosecutors estimate as much
• 7:15
as $9 billion has been stolen across schemes
• 7:18
linked to the state's Somalia population. Patel
• 7:22
is aware of a daycare center in Minneapolis that
• 7:25
received $4 million, despite reportedly having
• 7:28
no enrolled children. In crypto movement, Bitcoin
• 7:34
is unchanged over the weekend at $89 ,000. Ethereum
• 7:39
is up half a percent to just over $3 ,000. And
• 7:44
XRP is up 1 % to $1 .88. Moving on to a more
• 7:51

• 8:35
back to the show. Let's talk tech. China's rocket
• 8:40
startup, Lanspace, is aiming to become China's
• 8:44
equivalent of SpaceX. Recently, Landspace became
• 8:48
the first Chinese company to conduct a reusable
• 8:51
rocket test, raising eyebrows in the industry.
• 8:56
Despite the failure of the Zhuk -3 rocket test,
• 8:59
the initiative is invigorating China's space
• 9:01
sector, traditionally dominated by state -owned
• 9:04
entities. Landspace's focus on providing a low
• 9:08
-cost launch option is critical to China's plans
• 9:11
for building up 10 ,000 satellite constellations
• 9:15
in upcoming decades. As land space prepares for
• 9:19
another launch, it draws inspiration from SpaceX's
• 9:22
innovative approach to reusability and rapid
• 9:25
iteration. And in entertainment news, Jin's Cameron's
• 9:33
hi -fi three -kill avatar, Fire and Ash, comfortably
• 9:37
topped the domestic box office over the Christmas
• 9:39
stretch. The film added a solid $64 million over
• 9:45
the traditional weekend and $88 million since
• 9:48
Christmas. Avatar Fire and Ash has generated
• 9:53
$217 .7 million in North America and $760 million
• 10:00
worldwide after two weekends. A24's Marty Supreme
• 10:05
debuted with $17 .4 million over the weekend.
• 10:10
and $27 .1 million through the four -day holiday
• 10:14
frame. Disney's Zootopia 2 remains strong, outpacing
• 10:19
newcomers with $20 million over the weekend.
• 10:24
Well, all righty, folks, it's time for the quote
• 10:27
of the day. And today, our quote comes from the
• 10:31
American historian and author, Barbara Touchman.
• 10:35
And she said, Without books, history is silent,
• 10:42
literature dumb, science crippled, thought and
• 10:45
speculation at a standstill. And that's a wrap
• 10:50
for this morning. You can check out our Instagram,
