- 1:35Speaker 2: the Hallmark plus new releases. We have some new additions
- 1:39Speaker 2: to our Girls Gone Homemark lineup to announce very soon,
- 1:42Speaker 2: so stay tuned for those m Let's hear a synopsis
- 1:47Speaker 2: of the Birthday Wish.
- 1:49Speaker 1: On her birthday, a woman who desperately wants her boyfriend
- 1:53Speaker 1: to propose to her wishes for the opportunity to see
- 1:57Speaker 1: into the future with surprising result. The Birthday Wish was
- 2:01Speaker 1: written by Julie Sherman Wolf. You know her, you love her.
- 2:04Speaker 2: She has forty writing credits, including Taking A Shot at Love,
- 2:07Speaker 2: A Holiday Spectacular, and Holiday Touchdown, A Chief's Love Story.
- 2:11Speaker 3: You know.
- 2:11Speaker 1: By the way, I did not realize I've written a
- 2:15Speaker 1: pretty extensive blog post about Julie Sherman Wolf, and while
- 2:20Speaker 1: watching this movie, I saw her name come up, but
- 2:22Speaker 1: I was like, oh, I I know she wrote this one,
- 2:26Speaker 1: so pleasantly surprised when I saw her name in the
- 2:30Speaker 1: opening credits. Peter Delouiz directed this project. Peter has directed
- 2:34Speaker 1: fifty four projects, most recently serving as director on Win
- 2:38Speaker 1: Calls the Heart. His other projects include Hanakat. On Write
- 2:41Speaker 1: and Falling for You.
- 2:43Speaker 2: Jesse Shram stars as Gwen. This is one of Jesse's
- 2:46Speaker 2: sixty six acting credits. She's skipped busy on Chicago Med,
- 2:49Speaker 2: which she's appeared in sixty nine episodes for Hallmarks. She
- 2:52Speaker 2: has also appeared in Mystic Christmas and in Nashville Christmas Carol.
- 2:55Speaker 2: It's been a minute since she's been on Hallmark. She's
- 2:58Speaker 2: busy with Chicago Med doing her thing over there. Luke
- 3:01Speaker 2: McFarlane plays Dave. Luke's acting resume contains forty two credits,
- 3:06Speaker 2: including both Hallmark and outside projects.
- 3:09Speaker 1: For Hallmark. He's currently leading the reality renovation series Where
- 3:13Speaker 1: the Heart Is and has appeared in fan favorite movies
- 3:17Speaker 1: like Taking a Shot at Love and Catch Me If
- 3:19Speaker 1: You Clause. You can find him elsewhere in movies like Bros.
- 3:23Speaker 1: And the series Platonic on Apple TV.
- 3:27Speaker 2: Marcus Rossner plays Alex. If we had to say which
- 3:29Speaker 2: Hallmark movie among his sixty three credits is our favorite,
- 3:32Speaker 2: we would probably say it's Falling for You, where he
- 3:34Speaker 2: stars opposite Ashley Williams. He also has the honor of
- 3:37Speaker 2: choking a number of girls got Hallmark bingos spaces appearing
- 3:39Speaker 2: in Once Upon a Time, Girlfriend's guid to Divorce and Unreal.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Carti Wong plays Greg. We know Cardi from his roles
- 3:47Speaker 1: as Gen Jen or I think it's Jen. Remember we
- 3:52Speaker 1: were going back and forth about that on The Chicken Sisters,
- 3:56Speaker 1: as well as his role in Tip Line Mysteries Dial
- 3:58Speaker 1: One for Murder.
- 4:00Speaker 2: David James Lewis has a wild two hundred and seventy
- 4:03Speaker 2: one acting credits. We immediately recognized him from Jingle Bell Run,
- 4:06Speaker 2: but lately he's also been in school Spirits and One
- 4:09Speaker 2: Calls the Heart.
- 4:10Speaker 1: Let's take a quick break.
- 4:11Speaker 2: And we are gonna come right back with our first
- 4:13Speaker 2: impressions of the Birthday Wish. Hey, Wendy, what's your first
- 4:24Speaker 2: impression of the Birthday Wish?
- 4:27Speaker 1: So? I thought this movie was much better than February's
- 4:30Speaker 1: The Wish Swop, and I gave that movie four stars.
- 4:35Speaker 1: So better birthday movie, better birthday movie of the two.
- 4:39Speaker 2: I think my first impression is somebody find that giant
- 4:42Speaker 2: cookie for me, please. It's bigger than our whole head.
- 4:49Speaker 1: Now I can by cookie. Remember like those cookies from
- 4:52Speaker 1: you can get at the mall with like the frosting
- 4:55Speaker 1: on them. Missus g do you know what I was
- 4:57Speaker 1: just gonna say, tell me to say, have you seen
- 5:00Speaker 1: the new trend of cookie.
- 5:01Speaker 3: Cakes all over TikTok?
- 5:03Speaker 2: No, Well, it's that they've come a long way. I've
- 5:08Speaker 2: seen so many of them that I've become convinced that
- 5:10Speaker 2: I could make my own. And I want to make
- 5:12Speaker 2: one for my upcoming children's birthdays. One of them would
- 5:17Speaker 2: like it, one of them wouldn't. I just like a
- 5:19Speaker 2: it's a cake. It's a cookie with frosting. They're so cute.
- 5:22Speaker 1: Wait, but how it's not flat? Right? Sure, it's flats?
- 5:29Speaker 1: Is it just a cookie? Then with frosting on top
- 5:32Speaker 1: of it? Well, how do you make it to a cake?
- 5:35Speaker 1: Well that's what they were called in the They were
- 5:38Speaker 1: called cookie cakes when they were in like the Missus Fields.
- 5:41Speaker 1: Hold on, I'm pulling up TikTok. I need to see
- 5:43Speaker 1: what a cookie cake. But what people will do is
- 5:46Speaker 1: they will stack too, so you will like do like
- 5:50Speaker 1: a letter or a number, and then you do some
- 5:53Speaker 1: frosting in between the two layers, and then.
- 5:55Speaker 3: You decorate the top.
- 5:57Speaker 1: Oh like they're making it in a sheet pan. Yeah yeah,
- 6:00Speaker 1: oh interesting, and then you cut it into oh I
- 6:05Speaker 1: I I it is not that hard, right, I mean,
- 6:09Speaker 1: the frosting part would be hard, but well, especially if
- 6:13Speaker 1: you've never like decorated anything but high school I took
- 6:18Speaker 1: cookie decorated.
- 6:19Speaker 3: We have class. But oh you hard to be.
- 6:22Speaker 1: It can't be that hard. Get like those cute little
- 6:25Speaker 1: tips at Michael's and some pastry bags. Oh my, I mean,
- 6:28Speaker 1: it's gonna taste good no matter what. But some of
- 6:30Speaker 1: these are really cute though. Oh there's one in many
- 6:35Speaker 1: square cookie pans like ten soil pans, and you can
- 6:40Speaker 1: make like individual ones.
- 6:41Speaker 3: Oh ah, it's cute.
- 6:43Speaker 1: Have your daughter's friends decorate their own. That feels like
- 6:47Speaker 1: a lot of like you, because it's really only cute
- 6:50Speaker 1: when they.
- 6:51Speaker 3: Come out of the piping bags.
- 6:52Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah, I think sometimes I have like a
- 6:54Speaker 2: lot of piping bags and tips.
- 6:56Speaker 3: Okay, don't do that then, But these.
- 6:58Speaker 2: Are really but I don't I don't hate the idea
- 7:00Speaker 2: of the individual squares. But anyway, the idea is people
- 7:06Speaker 2: typically do them like you would do like a fifteen,
- 7:08Speaker 2: like a I was gonna say, a one and a five,
- 7:10Speaker 2: as if you couldn't figure that out for yourself, or
- 7:13Speaker 2: they cut them out in the shape of a letter
- 7:15Speaker 2: or some like this one you just sent me. She
- 7:16Speaker 2: has some that are just straight up rectangles, like decorated
- 7:19Speaker 2: like a cake. Yeah, we are so off target here,
- 7:23Speaker 2: but I I really want to attempt to make a
- 7:29Speaker 2: cookie cake and worst case scenario, like we just eat
- 7:31Speaker 2: it at our house because it's just gonna be a
- 7:32Speaker 2: cookie and frosting.
- 7:33Speaker 1: How bad it be? Sure?
- 7:35Speaker 3: Yeah?
- 7:36Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah, how did we start talking about?
- 7:38Speaker 2: Okay, we're talking about the giant cookie and then oh, that's.
- 7:41Speaker 1: Right, that's right, right, that's right. Let's get back to
- 7:44Speaker 1: the movie. What did you like? Well? I did think
- 7:47Speaker 1: this was a really fun storyline. Yeah, I enjoyed the
- 7:52Speaker 1: movie overall. I thought that the payoff at the end
- 7:57Speaker 1: pheels earned. I especially loved Jesse Shram and Luke McFarlane
- 8:07Speaker 1: in these roles. Like I forget how much I like
- 8:10Speaker 1: Jesse because she's not in that many movies. Missic Christmas
- 8:14Speaker 1: was the last one loved her in that. I did
- 8:18Speaker 1: like a Nashville Christmas Carol as well. She's just adorable, natural,
- 8:25Speaker 1: super likable, super cute. I thought Luke was great, and
- 8:28Speaker 1: I know Luke, you know, reported that he got tired
- 8:33Speaker 1: of playing these kind of roles. But He's so damn
- 8:36Speaker 1: funny and charming in the I just loved him, loved him.
- 8:39Speaker 1: I thought they had great chemistry. I just yeah, good casting. Yeah,
- 8:45Speaker 1: I did like it. I also liked Marcus Rosner. Now
- 8:48Speaker 1: I do feel bad that he got like the terrible
- 8:52Speaker 1: narcissistic boyfriend. Sure he played it well though, And I
- 8:58Speaker 1: just think back when we saw him on stage in
- 9:00Speaker 1: Kansas City and he really wowed me with his personal
- 9:04Speaker 1: stories about Christmas time, and I think he's really good.
- 9:09Speaker 1: I hate saying this, but I want him to be
- 9:11Speaker 1: a lead in better movies.
- 9:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I agree.
- 9:15Speaker 2: I think a lot of the work he does is
- 9:17Speaker 2: with his own production company. I mean, he's certainly on Hallmark,
- 9:21Speaker 2: but I don't think he gets enough opportunity to shine
- 9:25Speaker 2: on Hallmark. I wanted to piggyback on a couple of
- 9:29Speaker 2: the other things that you said, Starting with Jesse Shram
- 9:32Speaker 2: she always delivers. I remember when we first started Girls
- 9:34Speaker 2: Gone Hallmark, that woulde a Nashville Christmas Carol was pretty
- 9:37Speaker 2: early on in our lineup, and I remember we were like,
- 9:40Speaker 2: is that Jesse Shramp or is it Anna Camp?
- 9:42Speaker 1: Right? Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, that confusion is completely gone.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Jesse Shram stands alone. She's a star.
- 9:51Speaker 2: I think she's fun and light and really good on screen.
- 9:54Speaker 2: But remember when we talked about Bethany joy Lenz recently
- 9:58Speaker 2: in Royal mad you talked about how she makes the
- 10:03Speaker 2: distinction in your mind between actors and Hallmark actors, and
- 10:09Speaker 2: a difference, whatever the difference may be. I think Jesse Shram.
- 10:14Speaker 1: Is another one of those where she is an actor who.
- 10:19Speaker 2: Does well on Hallmark, but is not purely a Hallmark actor. Right,
- 10:29Speaker 2: You're comment about Luke McFarland. Like, to me, I'm like, oh,
- 10:31Speaker 2: that's baby Luke McFarlane. I thought it was great to
- 10:33Speaker 2: see him. I know it was only eight years ago,
- 10:35Speaker 2: but it feels like one million years ago, and it
- 10:37Speaker 2: also feels like it's miles and miles from the Luke
- 10:40Speaker 2: we know now. And I like both Luke's I like
- 10:44Speaker 2: this classic Hallmark movie Luke a lot look. I like
- 10:48Speaker 2: the new Luke. I love him on Platonic. I love
- 10:51Speaker 2: his new show Where the Heart Is. I think it's
- 10:53Speaker 2: real fun.
- 10:54Speaker 1: But this Hallmark Luke was pretty great. I think so too.
- 11:00Speaker 1: He doesn't disappoint to me in any he's in Never
- 11:04Speaker 1: Never Ever. I never go uh.
- 11:06Speaker 3: He was fine, but it should have.
- 11:07Speaker 1: Been somebody else. Never. I always enjoy him in his
- 11:10Speaker 1: movies and his roles he plays.
- 11:13Speaker 3: I really loved the speaking of his role.
- 11:16Speaker 1: I really love the character of Dave, and I like
- 11:18Speaker 1: how he's not really being coy about his affection for Gwen.
- 11:25Speaker 2: For Gwen thank you, I mean, he lays it all
- 11:27Speaker 2: out on the table. He's talking about them being a
- 11:29Speaker 2: good partner. She's like at work and he was like
- 11:31Speaker 2: and other places too, Like he's really clear about the
- 11:35Speaker 2: fact that he likes her, and he's putting it on
- 11:37Speaker 2: the table and he thinks her boyfriend's a buffood and
- 11:40Speaker 2: he just continues to show up in really sweet ways
- 11:43Speaker 2: for her. And there's not really any confusion.
- 11:46Speaker 3: We're not.
- 11:49Speaker 2: Trying to figure out like what did he mean? Kind
- 11:52Speaker 2: of like dating the Delineys, where Yeah, this character doesn't
- 11:56Speaker 2: really even though the Rachel Boston back his friend character
- 12:00Speaker 2: is like, there's no such thing as a practice date, right,
- 12:04Speaker 2: He's not really putting it out there. Rachel Boston's character
- 12:07Speaker 2: isn't really like fully aware of the vibe here. Luke's like, Luke,
- 12:12Speaker 2: Dave is putting it all out there. It's real clear.
- 12:14Speaker 1: What's happening, and now it's up to Gwen's character to
- 12:17Speaker 1: make something of it. And I just I love a
- 12:19Speaker 1: straightforward man. Yeah, so do I. But let me ask you, though,
- 12:24Speaker 1: because you hate a storyline where there is another person involved,
- 12:28Speaker 1: a boyfriend or a girlfriend, right, And did you hate
- 12:33Speaker 1: that Luke was Luke Dave was pursuing Gwynn even though
- 12:39Speaker 1: she had a boyfriend.
- 12:41Speaker 2: No, it's in my wishes to talk about the relationship.
- 12:45Speaker 2: But no, I didn't hate that he was pursuing her.
- 12:48Speaker 1: I now, maybe it's unfair. I didn't find him to
- 12:52Speaker 1: be behaving inappropriately. Okay, He like brought her a cookie
- 12:56Speaker 1: for her birthday and he brought her flowers. I think
- 12:58Speaker 1: he was putting it out there like yo, I'm here.
- 13:01Speaker 1: He wasn't physically pursuing her, And at no point did
- 13:07Speaker 1: she make it seem like like something starts to happen
- 13:10Speaker 1: and she was like, I can't do this, I'm still
- 13:12Speaker 1: in a relationship, and he backed off. If it were
- 13:16Speaker 1: a woman, would we call her a homework or maybe
- 13:18Speaker 1: Oh my gosh, but maybe Luke gets a pass.
- 13:23Speaker 3: I don't know. It didn't bother me, and quite frankly, I.
- 13:25Speaker 1: Didn't feel like it was on him to decide what
- 13:29Speaker 1: was appropriate and what was not. Gotcha, gotcha, gotcha? I
- 13:34Speaker 1: have it. Just a few more little likes. I love
- 13:37Speaker 1: me a magical realism storyline. I loved it in the
- 13:41Speaker 1: Magic of Lemon Drops. I love it here. I don't know.
- 13:45Speaker 1: I would have never have characterized myself as someone who
- 13:50Speaker 1: likes that genre, but.
- 13:51Speaker 3: I really do.
- 13:52Speaker 1: I really like it a lot. I very much connected
- 13:58Speaker 1: to Gwynn's obsession with planning things as a mechanism to
- 14:03Speaker 1: gain control, a sense of control. I just felt that
- 14:07Speaker 1: was very relatable to me. And finally, I thought this
- 14:12Speaker 1: movie had a Julie Sherman Wolf written all over it.
- 14:16Speaker 1: Sharp witty dialogue, self awareness. It was a freshish traditional storyline,
- 14:25Speaker 1: had like an energy that you know, I think maybe
- 14:30Speaker 1: didn't movies didn't have so much in twenty seventeen. On Home.
- 14:35Speaker 2: Yeah, there's no way this came out in twenty seventeen.
- 14:37Speaker 2: People weren't going like, oh, what do.
- 14:39Speaker 3: We have here?
- 14:40Speaker 1: Yeah? Exactly, exactly. Yeah.
- 14:43Speaker 2: My final like is just the Julie Sherman Wolf of
- 14:47Speaker 2: it all. The comedy, there's some really funny lines, like
- 14:50Speaker 2: when Marcus Rossner's character is like I'm going to be
- 14:53Speaker 2: an actor. She's like, oh, you got the lead, and
- 14:54Speaker 2: he's like, nope, I have two lines. Just there's so
- 14:57Speaker 2: much of that infused throughout so fun I agree, let's
- 15:01Speaker 2: talk wishes well.
- 15:04Speaker 1: I hated, hated, hated that this successful, smart, cute fun
- 15:11Speaker 1: gal was wishing so hard to be proposed to digging
- 15:15Speaker 1: through her food for a ring.
- 15:17Speaker 3: Stop it.
- 15:17Speaker 1: It just was her whole personality. She had so much
- 15:20Speaker 1: going for her. I just was a little put off
- 15:24Speaker 1: that she was like so obsessed with, like, where where's
- 15:27Speaker 1: the ring?
- 15:27Speaker 3: Where's there?
- 15:27Speaker 1: This guy was not the guy.
- 15:31Speaker 2: One hundred percent is echoes one of my wishes. My
- 15:34Speaker 2: notes says she was a badass at work and a
- 15:36Speaker 2: complete woos in her relationship.
- 15:38Speaker 1: M m.
- 15:39Speaker 2: Speaking of her relationship, I really wish she would have
- 15:42Speaker 2: broken up with Alex sooner. He was very clearly not
- 15:44Speaker 2: the guy. He was stringing her along. He knew what
- 15:48Speaker 2: she wanted, he wasn't able to get it. He was narcissistic.
- 15:52Speaker 2: But at the same time, my notes also say justice
- 15:55Speaker 2: for Marcus Rossner, and I just keep calling him Marcus Rossner. Uh,
- 15:59Speaker 2: even though I'm talking about Alex here. Alex yes is
- 16:04Speaker 2: a little is a little to a lot self absorbed.
- 16:08Speaker 2: He was not the right guy for her. I don't
- 16:11Speaker 2: actually think he's a bad guy. I don't think he
- 16:16Speaker 2: was a good boyfriend, but I don't think he's evil.
- 16:18Speaker 2: When we first meet him, I'm like, Oh, he's just
- 16:20Speaker 2: kind of a buffoon. He's just kind of he's not
- 16:25Speaker 2: going to be the guy. There's not going to be
- 16:27Speaker 2: anything aspirational about him. But I also don't think he
- 16:32Speaker 2: deserved the way in which he was kind of strung
- 16:36Speaker 2: along because she just had this vision of I mean,
- 16:40Speaker 2: they were striking to each other along, but I think
- 16:42Speaker 2: she just had this vision of the perfect life and
- 16:44Speaker 2: she was like, well, I'm so much closer to it
- 16:47Speaker 2: with Alex as opposed to Dave, who I hardly even know.
- 16:52Speaker 2: To me, it felt like she was like, I'm going
- 16:54Speaker 2: to stay in this relationship until I get this vision
- 16:56Speaker 2: of what I want, while still allowing her relationship with
- 17:03Speaker 2: Dave took herow. I just wanted them to end this
- 17:05Speaker 2: relationship sooner.
- 17:06Speaker 1: Yeah, me too. I think that the character of Alex
- 17:15Speaker 1: for me, he was a buffoon. It meane I had
- 17:19Speaker 1: a hard time understanding like what Gwenn saw on him. Yeah,
- 17:24Speaker 1: and I was like, Okay, now that leads me to wonder,
- 17:28Speaker 1: was she just wanting to get engaged to be engaged,
- 17:31Speaker 1: not because she was actually in love with him? So
- 17:34Speaker 1: silf respect Yeah exactly when that other woman gets engaged
- 17:38Speaker 1: at the restaurant and she's just looking on sadly, I
- 17:41Speaker 1: literally shouted at my screen, leave him, like this relationship
- 17:45Speaker 1: is over. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah, I agree. One
- 17:49Speaker 1: other thing that I didn't really love is that they
- 17:53Speaker 1: were putting so much emphasis on Gwen turning thirty, and
- 17:58Speaker 1: for me, I'm like, it's just like furthers that narrative
- 18:02Speaker 1: like thirties old and women are running out of time,
- 18:04Speaker 1: and like, don't do that. Don't do that, is what
- 18:09Speaker 1: I'm saying. I have one final wish, and it is
- 18:11Speaker 1: I needed a little more closure on the eye doctor storyline.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Oh yeah, I just kind of maybe wanted her to
- 18:19Speaker 1: return to him and have him like even just offer
- 18:22Speaker 1: her like a little wink in a nod that oh
- 18:24Speaker 1: they want in on something together. That yeah, helped facilitate
- 18:29Speaker 1: her seeing her future.
- 18:31Speaker 2: I didn't need like a long drawn out explanation of
- 18:34Speaker 2: his role. I just wanted something there to wrap that
- 18:39Speaker 2: all up.
- 18:39Speaker 1: Yeah, that would have been good. Are you ready for
- 18:42Speaker 1: we did to see that? I am, but I don't
- 18:44Speaker 1: have any Oh okay, well, let's sit back, relax and
- 18:47Speaker 1: enjoy the show.
- 18:47Speaker 3: First up, they're playing with the.
- 18:49Speaker 1: Puppies and days like he's just teething. You can't even
- 18:52Speaker 1: feel it. Lies. Lies.
- 18:54Speaker 2: Puppy teeth are like shark teeth. They do hurt. Are
- 18:58Speaker 2: they going to hurt you? Like, they're not going to
- 19:01Speaker 2: cause actual harm, but they will break your skin. They
- 19:04Speaker 2: will make you bleed, and their teeth are like little needles.
- 19:07Speaker 1: Yes, I agree. I agree.
- 19:09Speaker 3: She's like that was bad at all. I'm like, you're
- 19:11Speaker 3: a liar.
- 19:12Speaker 1: Yeah, but that.
- 19:13Speaker 2: Sweet puppy breath though, I know all they're so and
- 19:16Speaker 2: they're tummies. I know in the s'mores scene when and
- 19:21Speaker 2: Dave were there together and they are talking to that
- 19:24Speaker 2: older couple, Gwen gets up to leave and they like
- 19:26Speaker 2: shoot to Dave sitting by the fire pit and he's
- 19:29Speaker 2: all alone, like you can see the other benches and
- 19:31Speaker 2: there's nobody there, and.
- 19:32Speaker 3: Then Gwen comes back.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Dave's gone, but the couple's there, and it was weird
- 19:37Speaker 2: because like I felt like the couple.
- 19:38Speaker 3: Didn't leave and come back. You know what I mean?
- 19:40Speaker 2: Like they there was like a continuity. Err, yeah, yes, yes, yes,
- 19:43Speaker 2: I just think it's an oopsy. The final one is
- 19:45Speaker 2: from IMDb because Gwen comments sarcastically an ad agency from
- 19:50Speaker 2: nineteen sixty one and Jesse Shram was in Madmen? Was
- 19:55Speaker 2: She a show about an ad agency in the nineteen sixties.
- 19:58Speaker 2: That's she played Bunny, a real estate girlfriend of Pete Campbell.
- 20:02Speaker 1: That is a show. I never watched me either. I
- 20:05Speaker 1: wonder if we should maybe Mad Women preview podcasts.
- 20:12Speaker 3: Some things can just be for fun. Magn Hey, what did.
- 20:15Speaker 1: You rank the Birthday Wish? I gave it four stars.
