July 5th, the day after fireworks and cookouts, is the dirtiest day for U.S. beaches — and volunteers are stepping up to fix it. In Duluth, 25 Surfrider Foundation volunteers cleaned up Park Point, hauling out tons of trash — from single-use plastics and fireworks debris to cigarette butts — all ending up in Lake Superior. Local chapter leader Bob Pokorney urges everyone to clean up after themselves, while the national organization removed over 50,000 pounds of trash last year alone. Want to help?
