Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: It's game two. It is the crunch time for Auckland
- 0:03Speaker 1: f C. They're taking on Melbourne victory. This is the
- 0:05Speaker 1: second leg of the A League semi final this weekend.
- 0:07Speaker 1: They hold a one nil advantage right now, twenty eight
- 0:10Speaker 1: thousand fans heading to Mount Smart. Jason Pine, football commentator
- 0:13Speaker 1: in News Talk zbis week in Sport host with me pliny,
- 0:15Speaker 1: good morning, get it Ryan. So what are they going
- 0:18Speaker 1: to do here?
- 0:19Speaker 2: Well, I mean I think they'll be. I think they'll
- 0:22Speaker 2: be exactly the way they've been all season, which is
- 0:25Speaker 2: going out to win football matches. They're one nill ahead,
- 0:28Speaker 2: as you say, so they know that if they don't
- 0:31Speaker 2: concede they make the Grand Final. It's all done on aggregate.
- 0:34Speaker 2: So a nil all draw, for example, would get them
- 0:37Speaker 2: through one nill on aggregate. But I just don't think
- 0:41Speaker 2: it's an Auckland f C's DNA to sit back and
- 0:44Speaker 2: defend for ninety minutes. And I don't really think they'll
- 0:47Speaker 2: do anything other than go out tomorrow night and try
- 0:50Speaker 2: and win this football match and and sort of stride
- 0:53Speaker 2: confidently into the final next week, rather than just sort of,
- 0:56Speaker 2: you know, defend for ninety minutes and squeak in that way.
- 0:59Speaker 2: So yeah, I think we'll see the Auckland f C
- 1:01Speaker 2: we've seen pretty much all season, a very very good
- 1:04Speaker 2: football side that likes to, you know, obviously be tight
- 1:07Speaker 2: at the back, you know, but when the opportunity presents attack,
- 1:12Speaker 2: I think we'll see some goals tomorrow night without a
- 1:13Speaker 2: shadow of a doubt.
- 1:14Speaker 1: Plus, if they can go one nill in Melbourne, then
- 1:17Speaker 1: surely they can go one better here.
- 1:19Speaker 2: Yeah, that's a very good point. Yeah, you expect to
- 1:21Speaker 2: win your home games. You expect that home advantage means
- 1:25Speaker 2: just that that you have the advantage, and you talked
- 1:28Speaker 2: about the crowd and my goodness, it's going to be
- 1:30Speaker 2: something else tomorrow night when when that game kicks off,
- 1:35Speaker 2: and if Auckland f C can get the job done.
- 1:38Speaker 2: Of course, we know that next Saturday they'll host the
- 1:41Speaker 2: Grand Final at the same venue, so there's huge incentive
- 1:44Speaker 2: there for them to get the job done. For the
- 1:47Speaker 2: fans that will turn up, they would love one more
- 1:50Speaker 2: opportunity over Ken's Birthday weekend to cheer this team in
- 1:53Speaker 2: a Grand final. So yep, your home advantage means just that,
- 1:56Speaker 2: and it's been something that Auckland f C have taken
- 1:59Speaker 2: good advantage of the season.
- 2:01Speaker 1: You'll be there commentating. Of course, do they give you
- 2:03Speaker 1: extra soundproof glass because of the the sound.
- 2:07Speaker 2: Well I might need it, I tell you, you know,
- 2:11Speaker 2: they've added extra seats, they've added extra hospitality. I think
- 2:15Speaker 2: every space that's available at the ground will be utilized.
- 2:18Speaker 2: But look, you have to give it to Auckland FC's
- 2:22Speaker 2: you know, fan base. Just how quickly this has become
- 2:26Speaker 2: a thing. You know, I mean eighteen years without a
- 2:29Speaker 2: team in Auckland, and there were doubts after what happened
- 2:31Speaker 2: to the nights back in the you know, two thousand
- 2:33Speaker 2: and five, two thousand and six time frame, that that
- 2:36Speaker 2: people would turn up. Well, goodness made. They've turned up
- 2:38Speaker 2: and some and made some noise. So yeah, I think
- 2:43Speaker 2: I think anybody expecting or wanting a quiet night should
- 2:47Speaker 2: steer clear. I'll go medium out smart tomorrow night.
- 2:50Speaker 1: Good advice, Jason. Good to have you on as always,
- 2:52Speaker 1: Jason Pine, football commentator, weekend sport host right here on
