Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: Chapter ten, punishment. All men tremble at punishment. All men
- 0:08Speaker 1: fear death. Remember that you are like unto them, and
- 0:14Speaker 1: do not kill nor call slaughter. All men tremble at punishment.
- 0:22Speaker 1: All men love life. Remember that thou art like unto them,
- 0:28Speaker 1: and do not kill nor call slaughter. He who seeking
- 0:35Speaker 1: his own happiness punishes or kills beings who also long
- 0:40Speaker 1: for happiness, will not find happiness after death. He who
- 0:47Speaker 1: seeking his own happiness does not punish or kill beings
- 0:51Speaker 1: who also long for happiness, will find happiness after death.
- 1:00Speaker 1: Speak harshly to anybody. Those who are spoken to will
- 1:04Speaker 1: answer THEE in the same way. Angry speech is painful.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Blows for blows will touch THEE. If, like a shattered
- 1:17Speaker 1: metal plate gong, thou utter not, then thou hast reached nirvana.
- 1:25Speaker 1: Contention is not known to THEE. As a cowherd with
- 1:31Speaker 1: his staff drives his cows into the stable, so do
- 1:36Speaker 1: age and death drive the life of men. A fool
- 1:42Speaker 1: does not know when he commits his evil deeds, but
- 1:46Speaker 1: the wicked man burns by his own deeds, as if
- 1:50Speaker 1: burnt by fire. He who inflicts pain on innocent and
- 1:56Speaker 1: harmless persons will soon come to one of these ten states,
- 2:03Speaker 1: he will have cruel suffering, loss injury of the body,
- 2:09Speaker 1: heavy affliction or loss of mind, or a misfortune coming
- 2:15Speaker 1: from the king, or a fearful accusation or loss of relations,
- 2:22Speaker 1: or destruction of treasures, or lightning fire will burn his houses,
- 2:29Speaker 1: and when his body is destroyed, the fool will go
- 2:32Speaker 1: to hell. Not nakedness, not plaited hair, not dirt, not
- 2:41Speaker 1: fasting or lying on the earth, not rubbing with dust,
- 2:47Speaker 1: not sitting motionless, can purify a mortal who has not
- 2:52Speaker 1: overcome desires. He who, though dressed in fine apparel, exercises tranquility,
- 3:03Speaker 1: is quiet, subdued, restrained, chaste, and has ceased to find
- 3:10Speaker 1: fault with all other beings. He, indeed is a bramina,
- 3:15Speaker 1: an ascetic shramana, a friar ictuu. Is there in this
- 3:24Speaker 1: world any man so restrained by humility that he does
- 3:29Speaker 1: not mind reproof as a well trained horse the whip.
- 3:36Speaker 1: Like a well trained horse, when touched by the whip,
- 3:39Speaker 1: be ye active and lively, and by faith, by virtue,
- 3:44Speaker 1: by energy, by meditation, by discernment of the law, you
- 3:50Speaker 1: will overcome this great pain of reproof. Perfect in knowledge
- 3:55Speaker 1: and in behavior, and never forgetful. Well makers lead the
- 4:02Speaker 1: water wherever they like. Fletchers bend the arrow, Carpenters bend
- 4:09Speaker 1: a log of wood. Good people fashion themselves. End of
- 4:18Speaker 1: Chapter ten
