- 0:05>> Wow.
- 0:06>> What's up, dog?
- 0:07>> What's up? That rock.
- 0:09>> Yeah, that was Yeah, that's the first
- 0:10time I've ever done a sweet
- 0:11>> energy.
- 0:11>> It's good. Yeah,
- 0:12>> it's like just a
- 0:14>> It's exciting to clap.
- 0:15>> Yeah,
- 0:16>> I think we should clap more.
- 0:17>> I like uh in general.
- 0:20>> I think I guess in general. I'm kind of
- 0:22pro doing everything more in general.
- 0:24>> Yeah, I can tell. Right before we
- 0:27started recording, I was like, "You've
- 0:28got you've got the most dog in you of
- 0:30anybody I've ever seen. You've got
- 0:32you've got 10 wolves inside of you.
- 0:33You're the you're putting the most
- 0:36effort into short form content of
- 0:38anybody I've ever seen."
- 0:40>> Um, I appreciate that. Thank you. I I
- 0:42try my best. Um, yeah, you can you can
- 0:46really just like do so much stuff. It
- 0:48turns out your day has a lot of hours.
- 0:50People forget that.
- 0:51>> My day I've found all the number of
- 0:53hours possible. I've found them. Yeah.
- 0:56How How are you? Oh, I like that you're
- 0:58you're the Yes.
- 0:59>> I'm locking in on knitting because this
- 1:00is not a joke to me, you know? This is
- 1:03like
- 1:04>> Yes.
- 1:04>> This is part of my my time optimization
- 1:07method is that's why knitting is the
- 1:09perfect hobby is it's like a fidget toy
- 1:11that you can bring with you everywhere
- 1:13and is productive.
- 1:14>> So, you literally just like fidgets
- 1:17around and then you have a sweater at
- 1:18the end.
- 1:19>> That That's l That's so amazing.
- 1:21>> It's really really fun. I saw you
- 1:23working on this and that's part of why I
- 1:24was like I got to get Macy on the pod.
- 1:26You're doing arts and crafts. Folks, by
- 1:28the way, this is Macy Gilliam.
- 1:30>> Yeah.
- 1:30>> Yep. Hell yeah.
- 1:32>> Uh from Morning Brew and uh Macy goes
- 1:36out and about is the name of the show.
- 1:39>> It's Yep. Out there. That's
- 1:41>> out there with pretty much it. But it's
- 1:43on the Morning Brew channel. So,
- 1:44>> it's great.
- 1:45>> Yeah,
- 1:45>> it's good stuff.
- 1:46>> I saw the recycle like the recycling
- 1:48tech one was I was like, whoa. I did I
- 1:50did do a tech waste recycling one where
- 1:52I followed my tech waste journey. Yeah.
- 1:55That I like it. That's the fun thing
- 1:57about my content is it's all completely
- 2:00natural where it's like Morning Brew
- 2:03doesn't care what I make and so they
- 2:05want me to make whatever I'm interested
- 2:06in. And so frequently it's like I'm
- 2:09actually having the problem of not
- 2:10knowing what to do with my tech waste.
- 2:12And then I go I wonder if anyone knows
- 2:14what to do with their tech waste. And
- 2:15then it's like, okay, sure. You take it
- 2:17to the like tech waste recycle shop.
- 2:20Where does it go from there? Like, how
- 2:21does that actually get recycled? And so,
- 2:24yeah, I got to make a video and follow
- 2:26its its journey down the line.
- 2:27>> No, it's awes It's a thought I've had
- 2:29before, too, where I'm like, if I were
- 2:31to take this to Best Buy or something,
- 2:32I'm like, what are they [ __ ] what are
- 2:34they doing,
- 2:34>> right? What are they doing with it?
- 2:36Maybe I want to keep it. Maybe they're
- 2:38bad with it. I don't know.
- 2:39>> Yeah.
- 2:39>> Um
- 2:40>> they're looking at my old files.
- 2:42>> They're going through my files. I know
- 2:43they are. All those webcam photos I took
- 2:45in like 2011 where
- 2:47>> they're making fun of my I know that
- 2:48they're making fun of the one with the
- 2:50little birds flying around your head
- 2:51like you got you hit your head they're
- 2:53making fun of me
- 2:54>> is so is this part of a new video cuz I
- 2:56know you
- 2:56>> No, this travel
- 3:00work a lot.
- 3:01>> So So the the sweater thing that I did
- 3:03previously was just on my own for fun.
- 3:06Nothing to do with morning
- 3:08sweater from scratch.
- 3:09>> I made a sweater from scratch starting
- 3:11with shearing a sheep.
- 3:12>> Wow. Um, so there is a working farm in
- 3:15New York City. Did you know this? That
- 3:16has livestock at it. Um, the Queens
- 3:18County Farm Museum. It's like Midtown.
- 3:21>> Yeah, that's Midtown. Um, it's um they
- 3:24have a working farm. They have
- 3:26livestock. Um, it's basically Long
- 3:28Island. Okay. Pretty far out, but um
- 3:31like the one bus that runs out there, I
- 3:32was like at my bus stop like 10 minutes
- 3:34early cuz that's how the bus works.
- 3:36>> Um unfortunately. And I get there and I
- 3:39like text the little thing to be like,
- 3:40"How far away is my bus?" and it goes,
- 3:42"That doesn't run today, idiot."
- 3:43>> And I had to like last minute Uber out
- 3:45there and it was a fortune. But damn.
- 3:47>> Um, but they had a sheep shearing
- 3:50festival in May and I went out there for
- 3:52their sheep shearing festival and then I
- 3:55took home the fleece of a sheep cuz I
- 3:57had this idea that I was like I like I
- 3:59was really into sewing in high school. I
- 4:01had a really cool sewing class at my
- 4:03like public high school in Florida. Um,
- 4:06>> needles. Sorry.
- 4:07>> I know you're all good. Are you Oh, very
- 4:10fun.
- 4:11>> Yeah, I'm going to do I'm going to do
- 4:12some embroidery. Um I've got a beanie.
- 4:14It's just sort of a gray beanie.
- 4:15>> Fun and a butterfly.
- 4:17>> That's the plan. Yeah. When I've been
- 4:19wearing the beanie around, I honestly
- 4:20feel like just wearing a gray beanie, I
- 4:21look kind of
- 4:23>> I don't know. I just feel like
- 4:24>> I look very warm. I feel like it doesn't
- 4:25convey your personality.
- 4:26>> Not a good vibe. So, I'm like, let me
- 4:27just put a butterfly. I didn't mean to
- 4:29interrupt.
- 4:29>> No, that's okay. I asked a question. Um
- 4:32>> I asked a question first.
- 4:34>> Um so, I had this idea. I've always been
- 4:37into sewing. I had a four-year fashion
- 4:38design and construction class in high
- 4:40school that was like crazy for a public
- 4:42high school to have. It was super fun.
- 4:44Um, and then when I moved away to
- 4:47college, I couldn't bring my sewing
- 4:49machine with me, but I missed making
- 4:51stuff. So, then I got into crochet. Then
- 4:53I've always kind of been into that. And
- 4:54then I'm very into like how fiber arts
- 4:58have to do with like women specifically
- 5:00because it's always been like
- 5:01traditionally like women's work to like
- 5:03spin and make fabric and like make
- 5:06clothes. Um, and so like there's this
- 5:08great book that's called Paternal
- 5:10Tyranny that's about this um, woman that
- 5:12was forced to be a nun in like 1400s
- 5:14Florence. And if any woman like if their
- 5:17family couldn't afford like a dowy or
- 5:19whatever, they would just put them in
- 5:20the like nunnery, which was crazy. And
- 5:23then they would be forced to make lace
- 5:25all day, which is like truly the most
- 5:27like nightmarish task.
- 5:29>> Really, really tiny.
- 5:30>> Really really tiny. So difficult to do.
- 5:32And so this woman, it's like sometimes
- 5:34considered like the first work of um
- 5:36like feminist literature, but it's from
- 5:38like 1400 to Florence. It's called
- 5:39Paternal Tyranny. And it was like a huge
- 5:42step in my journey of like acknowledging
- 5:45fiber arts as like uh this like
- 5:49interesting piece of women's history
- 5:51specifically. Um and I'm just very into
- 5:54understanding like production and like
- 5:56how the things that I own are made or
- 5:58recycled. Like that's kind of the common
- 6:01theme I would say in my life.
- 6:02>> Same. I love I love that stuff. I watch
- 6:03a lot of the like logistics like
- 6:04channel. Well, that's how I found your
- 6:07channel partly. It's like Well, cuz I I
- 6:09found you.
- 6:10>> I think I
- 6:13guess maybe I saw some of the videos go
- 6:14viral or something. I don't know. But
- 6:15yeah, like I
- 6:16>> Yeah, I I w I You're part of my video
- 6:19essay YouTube diet.
- 6:21>> Hell yeah.
- 6:22>> Sim similar interest there. Sorry.
- 6:24>> Um no, all good. So, right. Okay. So,
- 6:26I'm super into all of that stuff. And
- 6:27then I got this idea in my head of
- 6:30making my own sweater from scratch.
- 6:34Starting with like shearing the sheep.
- 6:37>> Yeah.
- 6:37>> And like truly doing every step for
- 6:39myself, not because I think I would be
- 6:40good at it or because I think that it
- 6:42would be fun, but because I know it is
- 6:44like going to be hellish and a
- 6:45nightmare, but so interesting along the
- 6:48way. Um, and so that's what I did this
- 6:50summer. It took four months. It took 90
- 6:52hours. Um, I yeah, in May I went and
- 6:56picked up the I like watched them shear
- 6:58this sheep and I took the wool home with
- 7:00me and then I like washed it all in my
- 7:02bathtub and then I like brushed it out
- 7:05and then you have to like prep it to be
- 7:07spun and then I spent 30 hours spinning
- 7:10it into yarn. Um,
- 7:12>> oh my god, it's not fun. Um, it's really
- 7:16really terrible.
- 7:16>> Is this a video that's come Is this
- 7:17>> This is a video. This will actually be
- 7:19the first ever video on my personal
- 7:21YouTube channel.
- 7:22>> Oh, cool. Yeah,
- 7:23>> check it out.
- 7:24>> Check it out. Um,
- 7:25>> when it comes out,
- 7:26>> it's Yeah, the channel is up now, but
- 7:28the the video will be coming out soon.
- 7:30Um, I have like some short form stuff on
- 7:32there that's like from along the way of
- 7:33making the sweater, but um I have not
- 7:36edited the entire
- 7:37>> I like how you're able to do that kind
- 7:38of secondary
- 7:40>> like you seem like you're cooking on
- 7:41that. Yeah.
- 7:42>> Like you're like you're definitely like
- 7:44you locked the [ __ ]
- 7:45>> really look up super a lot. So I'm like
- 7:48weird about icons like knitting and
- 7:50talking though. Yeah. But um knitting
- 7:52really is so fun and that's why like
- 7:54knitting has always been like a social
- 7:56activity that like women would sit
- 7:57around and knit and talk like it was
- 7:58like knitting circles.
- 7:59>> That makes sense. You can I um yeah the
- 8:02no the connection to like women's
- 8:04history is interesting there as well. I
- 8:06um it's interesting. I wonder why it's
- 8:10not
- 8:11>> men or like like it does seem because
- 8:14I've really enjoyed embroidery. curious
- 8:16why knitting circles weren't ever
- 8:19>> I think a lot of it was that at the time
- 8:21it wasn't a hobby it was a chore and it
- 8:23was a chore that was safe to be done
- 8:25around children so if the women were
- 8:26already minding the like this is these
- 8:28are things that I've like read um but uh
- 8:31I think that it was something that was
- 8:32safe to be done around children versus
- 8:34like men's chores being like you know
- 8:36using dangerous farming equipment or
- 8:39whatever like not as safe
- 8:41>> um for a woman to be doing with like
- 8:43children around
- 8:44>> interesting so I think that's
- 8:46what it was like.
- 8:47>> Exactly.
- 8:49>> Um, yeah, but I I love it and I do love
- 8:53that's the thing about knitting is I
- 8:54really try to explain to people I'm like
- 8:55it is like a fidget toy. Like it's just
- 8:58fun and easy and I do it while I watch
- 9:00TV instead of picking up my phone.
- 9:02>> Oh, dude. Yeah. Okay. So, I've been
- 9:04embroidering while watching like
- 9:07podcasts or watching like uh honestly
- 9:10that's part of how this happened a
- 9:12little bit. I don't know. I just feel
- 9:13like um I don't know. I I've been really
- 9:16enjoying arts and crafts. I love this
- 9:17idea of I don't know just making making
- 9:19stuff is so fun.
- 9:20>> It's I think we are like oh my attention
- 9:23span I can't watch TV anymore. Like I
- 9:25pick up my phone and it's like
- 9:27>> don't be mad at yourself. Just like pick
- 9:30up something else.
- 9:31>> Yes.
- 9:31>> Like just accept that you want to pick
- 9:33something up and pick something
- 9:34different.
- 9:35>> You need a different fidget.
- 9:36>> You need a different fidget that's not
- 9:37your phone.
- 9:39>> I mean I hope your your pod audience
- 9:41That's so cute. What color? What color
- 9:43do you think I should add to this?
- 9:44>> This light like neony green would pop a
- 9:46lot.
- 9:47>> I agree with that. Let's do it.
- 9:48>> Um I hope your audience is crafting
- 9:50along with us. If they pick up a craft
- 9:52>> if you're not Yeah, we I encourage that
- 9:54heavily actually.
- 9:55>> This is your crafting circle.
- 9:56>> Yes.
- 9:57>> Um I mean we're entertaining enough they
- 9:58don't need to pick up anything.
- 10:00>> No, actually sit silently and watch.
- 10:02>> Sit silently and watch. If you're at
- 10:04work, put the work down.
- 10:06>> Pay Pay the [ __ ] attention.
- 10:08>> Pay attention. How did you end up like
- 10:12were you already working at Morning Brew
- 10:13and then that you were like wait what if
- 10:15I started going out and about?
- 10:17>> Basically I I started at Morning Brew
- 10:19doing uh Twitter.
- 10:22>> Um I was doing I was hired to do tweets
- 10:26and like still image Instagram posts um
- 10:29in 2022. This is my first job out of
- 10:32college um which was so sick. And then
- 10:35after I started, I was like, "You guys,
- 10:37I love what I'm doing now." Of course,
- 10:39obviously, but um if there was room on
- 10:42the video team, that would be really fun
- 10:43to me. Um Dan Tumi was doing all of our
- 10:46video at the time.
- 10:47>> Yeah. Shout out Danum.
- 10:48>> Shout out Dan Tumi. Still work with him.
- 10:50He's the greatest.
- 10:50>> Yes.
- 10:51>> Um so then I started like helping Dan
- 10:55with videos and then like slowly making
- 10:57my own. Um, and then I did my own like
- 11:02daily sketch videos about the news for
- 11:05like 2 years.
- 11:06>> And then
- 11:07>> I've seen I've seen those as well. Like
- 11:08uh big car then big
- 11:11like I I genuinely
- 11:13>> I think that was my all-time greatest
- 11:14hit.
- 11:15>> I get a lot of my I straight up I get a
- 11:17good amount of like my news of I guess
- 11:20like um I guess what's going on in
- 11:22certain worlds.
- 11:24>> It's like business news. It's it's more
- 11:26of that vibe for sure. Okay, it's
- 11:28business news, but also you guys seem to
- 11:31be like not a fan of the of business,
- 11:35which I like. Like you're like I don't
- 11:36mean to slander Morning Brew if that's
- 11:39if that's not the vibe they're going
- 11:40for, but it does seem like they're like,
- 11:41"What is private equity? Oh, it's bad."
- 11:43>> Well, I prefer to prefer to not agree.
- 11:48>> I think it's um I think private equity
- 11:50is great. And I've always said that. Um,
- 11:53okay.
- 11:54>> No, KKR has divested its steak in
- 11:56Morning Brew, so now I can slander them.
- 11:58>> Oh, really?
- 11:58>> I'm just kidding. They did have a steak
- 12:00in Morning Brew, and they did get rid of
- 12:01it. Um, but there was never, of course,
- 12:03a rule that I couldn't critique them.
- 12:05>> Oh, interesting. Okay.
- 12:06>> Um, anyway, yeah, I do think that like
- 12:11um
- 12:13oftentimes when companies are in the
- 12:14news, it's because they did something
- 12:16wrong. So then I think our coverage can
- 12:18seem really down on them, but it's like
- 12:20what news am I going to do about a
- 12:22company doing something right? Like
- 12:24that's not news then. That's just like
- 12:25what they're supposed to be doing and
- 12:26that's right. Then it feels like an ad
- 12:28for them.
- 12:29>> Like
- 12:30>> I don't know. There's not much to say
- 12:32about when companies are doing the right
- 12:33thing. So it is more often that they're
- 12:35doing the wrong thing when um
- 12:37>> interesting
- 12:37>> when they're in the news.
- 12:39>> Um I forget what the next step of my
- 12:41dating pattern is, so I have to um I
- 12:43have to go look at my little notes app.
- 12:45People these days are always on their
- 12:47[ __ ] goddamn phones. I earnestly
- 12:50think that phones are great and have
- 12:52made people learn a lot. And I think
- 12:55that like phones I like people are like,
- 12:56"Oh, kids are always on their phones too
- 12:58much." I'm like, "Oh, you mean where all
- 13:00of information is?
- 13:02You mean like the the great library of
- 13:05all human knowledge?"
- 13:06>> I think that's a really great point. And
- 13:08as someone who makes edutainment
- 13:09content, I feel I cannot disagree. Um,
- 13:15>> what's your favorite What's some of your
- 13:16favorite edutainment?
- 13:17>> Oh my god. Well, um, John and Hank
- 13:20Green, of course.
- 13:21>> Oh, yeah.
- 13:21>> Um,
- 13:22>> I've seen almost all of the Crash
- 13:24Course,
- 13:24>> right? Um, I feel like what they do and
- 13:27what they stand for is so fun and I'm so
- 13:29like nostalgic for like the era of the
- 13:31internet when they were like really all
- 13:33I watched. Um,
- 13:35>> you ever heard of Professor Dave? We're
- 13:37getting into him lately. Yeah,
- 13:39>> I think I've seen some of his stuff. I
- 13:40really like the architectural digest
- 13:42videos, but not the house tours. God,
- 13:45never the house tours.
- 13:46>> I hate watching the house tours a little
- 13:48bit because I'm like, "Fuck you.
- 13:49>> I want that house.
- 13:52That should be my house." Um, no. I only
- 13:55like the ones that are like architect
- 13:57explains. And the guy's name is Michael
- 13:58Whitesner and he's my celebrity hall
- 14:00pass. He is a 65year-old architect and
- 14:02he is married
- 14:05but he is my celebrity hall pass. Um,
- 14:08I'm not in a relationship, but he is.
- 14:10Anyway,
- 14:12>> so you would have to be you would have
- 14:14to be his hall pass as well, then.
- 14:16>> Yeah, it's mutual. He doesn't know who I
- 14:18am. um
- 14:21he makes these great videos like
- 14:22explaining all of the architectural
- 14:24details of the Chrysler building or like
- 14:26best bridges in New York City or one
- 14:28time he made one that's about why it's
- 14:29so impossible to have um elevators in
- 14:32the sk in the highrises above um
- 14:37like north of 42nd Street because of
- 14:40Grand Central because elevators have to
- 14:43have the elevator bank underneath the
- 14:45ground that's like a full floor length
- 14:47of bank where stuff for the elevator has
- 14:50to go,
- 14:50>> right? All the people
- 14:52>> uh all the people who push up the
- 14:54elevator. Exactly. They have to have
- 14:57somewhere to go
- 14:57>> with all the pulleys and stuff.
- 14:58>> Exactly. And so north of Grand Central,
- 15:02there's train tracks under the ground.
- 15:04There's so much train track under the
- 15:05ground. So there's no room for that. So
- 15:07all of the office buildings north of
- 15:0942nd have an escalator up to the first
- 15:12floor and then the elevators start on
- 15:13the second floor. So they all have these
- 15:14like weird lobbies.
- 15:15>> Interesting. And somehow he made that
- 15:17into a 20-minute video that I was
- 15:19enthralled by the entire time.
- 15:21>> That's awesome. Is it is it um is it
- 15:23funny? Because like your stuff Okay.
- 15:25Your stuff is going for uh infotainment
- 15:28in the sense of like there's uh comedy
- 15:30element. You're doing bits.
- 15:32>> I'm doing bits.
- 15:33>> You did a joke in one of them that I had
- 15:35also parallel thought written.
- 15:37>> Yeah.
- 15:38>> Uh in the blood one. You were like
- 15:40getting a infusion of blood before a
- 15:42sport.
- 15:43>> I was I was trying to do a bit about
- 15:44>> DIY. Um, uh, blood doping.
- 15:48>> Yes.
- 15:48>> Yeah. And I was like, if I could just
- 15:50set aside my own blood as like a person
- 15:53who's in a recreational kickball league,
- 15:55why would I not be allowed to do that?
- 15:57>> Yeah. Mine was more psycho. Mine was
- 15:59more like dur during like blood sports
- 16:01with like gladiators. Like I'm do I'm
- 16:03injecting myself with like a whole bunch
- 16:05of blood. But um but yes, simil similar
- 16:07idea though. Yes.
- 16:08>> Yeah.
- 16:10>> The knitting pattern. Can I see this?
- 16:12>> Yeah. Okay. It's like a secret code.
- 16:14Wait, you are now on row 60, color A, P
- 16:16side. Next row is row 61, Russian
- 16:19castoff, Kside, not too tight. Right
- 16:21panel is where you have to sew in the
- 16:22buttons. Okay, but is it cast off with
- 16:24color A or color B? That's what we don't
- 16:26know. And I guess that's just up to my
- 16:29choice of what I would like it to look
- 16:31like. So, I'm going to Oops. I'm going
- 16:33to cast off with color B.
- 16:35>> What do you think? Um, yeah,
- 16:36>> color B.
- 16:37>> Color B.
- 16:38>> Vote now on your phones.
- 16:39>> Vote now on your phones to see what
- 16:41color we're kicking off. Okay, this is
- 16:44>> also I have no idea what the [ __ ] you're
- 16:46talking about.
- 16:46>> Back panel. So
- 16:48>> back panel.
- 16:49>> So I have the back panel done. This is a
- 16:52cardigan. It's a really fun pattern.
- 16:54>> Can I show this to the camera?
- 16:55>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um it's like secret
- 16:59code where it's like K2P K2 tog. And
- 17:03that means like
- 17:04>> up, down, left, right.
- 17:05>> K2 tog is like knit two together.
- 17:08>> Slide to the left.
- 17:09>> Exactly.
- 17:11Um, so this is the sweater. This is the
- 17:13backa.
- 17:14>> It says chaa real smooth. This is the
- 17:16back panel. It's a vertical striped
- 17:18sweater, but you knit it going this way
- 17:22and then you turn it on its side.
- 17:23>> It does actually say, no, it literally
- 17:26says if you make any mistakes, you could
- 17:28just have frog.
- 17:30>> So frog is when you, you're going to
- 17:32love this. Frog is when you undo and you
- 17:35pull out the stitches that you made and
- 17:37you undo them. And it's called frogging.
- 17:39People say because you rip it. Rip it.
- 17:42Like you rip it. Rip it.
- 17:43>> Cuz you because you rip it because you
- 17:46>> you rip it. I can't do it right now.
- 17:48>> Cuz you like rip it rip it.
- 17:49>> Yeah.
- 17:50>> Oh, I see. Okay.
- 17:51>> So, if I were to like
- 17:52>> I thought it was like a double hop was
- 17:54the idea. Okay.
- 17:55>> No, it's like if I like pull these out.
- 17:57>> Yeah. You [ __ ] up there. Yeah. Okay.
- 17:58Oh, I see.
- 17:59>> [ __ ] up there. I was just kind of
- 18:00showing you.
- 18:00>> No, she [ __ ] up though.
- 18:01>> No, it was really perfect. I'm really
- 18:04good at
- 18:06>> the I do want to come to the return to
- 18:08this idea of um infotainment.
- 18:11>> Yeah.
- 18:11>> Uh on account of you making it also I'm
- 18:13going to try to get this a little closer
- 18:14to you for move it to you maybe. Um
- 18:18>> the idea of
- 18:20>> um well is that Architectural Digest
- 18:22Sideshow one. Is that funny or do you
- 18:24like when stuff is funny or do you like
- 18:26watching like
- 18:26>> I like when stuff is funny but like I
- 18:28don't need it to be funny. Like I'm okay
- 18:30if it's not. Um,
- 18:32>> I'm okay if it's not even entertain uh
- 18:34educational if it's funny.
- 18:36>> Um, I'm Yeah, I don't need it
- 18:40I don't need it to be funny. A lot of
- 18:42the stuff I watch I feel like is is
- 18:44super not entertaining. Like it is just
- 18:47>> educational in a way that like I can
- 18:49just lock in on that and also like
- 18:51>> I'm knitting so
- 18:53>> I'm also entertained by that.
- 18:55>> Um,
- 18:55>> you ever watch Sean?
- 18:57S H A N. It's like 4 hour video essays.
- 19:00He's like, he's really good. That's
- 19:02awesome.
- 19:02>> But it's not comedy. It's just pure lock
- 19:06in. Here's the details.
- 19:07>> That rocks. No, I got to look this up.
- 19:09>> He's He's got like, you know, the You
- 19:10ever heard of that book, The Bell Curve?
- 19:11And it's like that Yeah.
- 19:12>> um racist uh IQ stuff.
- 19:15>> Totally.
- 19:15>> It's like just a 4hour like here's why
- 19:17it's wrong. Boom boom boom boom boom
- 19:19boom.
- 19:19>> Fantastic.
- 19:20>> Yeah.
- 19:20>> Um that's really fun. So I would say no.
- 19:22The stuff that I watch is not always
- 19:26funny. I'm going to let him in.
- 19:27>> Okay. Yay. Honey's coming in.
- 19:32Hi, honey. Come on.
- 19:34>> Hi, honey.
- 19:36>> Is Honey gonna love this yarn?
- 19:38>> Uh, honey a big crafts guy,
- 19:41>> actually. No, no, no.
- 19:44>> Um,
- 19:46>> money. I kind of I kind of moved him in
- 19:48a weird way. You were saying
- 19:51>> um I would say the stuff that I watch is
- 19:53not always funny. I try to make my stuff
- 19:56funny just because it's more fun to make
- 19:59that way and like realistically I cannot
- 20:01comport myself
- 20:03>> seriously anyway. I can let him back out
- 20:06if you want me to.
- 20:07>> If if he if he wants it. Yeah.
- 20:08>> Okay. Um
- 20:09>> you do not comport yourself seriously.
- 20:11>> I cannot comport myself seriously, nor
- 20:13do I want to learn how.
- 20:14>> But in Yeah. In the in the airline
- 20:15video, you actually had to have a
- 20:17disclaimer where you're like, "They take
- 20:18this seriously."
- 20:20>> Yeah. I added that in.
- 20:21>> Oh, he figured it out.
- 20:22>> I added that in. They didn't ask me to
- 20:24add it. Well, they were a little
- 20:26concerned on the day when I was [ __ ]
- 20:27around and it was like really early in
- 20:29the day. I like picked up a glass by
- 20:32like the rim of the glass
- 20:33>> and the like comm's team cuz there's 20
- 20:36people following us around from the like
- 20:37United Corporate Comm's team and I'm
- 20:39like chill.
- 20:40>> Um it was the most amount of people I've
- 20:42ever had on a set with us and
- 20:45>> Is it sponsored too? Is that like
- 20:46>> No, it's not sponsored. So I retain all
- 20:50editorial control.
- 20:51>> Oh [ __ ] So, like they just give us
- 20:52access and like hope that they come off
- 20:55looking well, but like um sometimes they
- 20:58don't and like
- 20:59>> I we don't let them pay for anything.
- 21:02>> So,
- 21:03>> just keep
- 21:04>> No, you're okay. Um
- 21:08>> um we don't let them pay for anything
- 21:10and we Yeah. then like retain all
- 21:14control of the story and they don't they
- 21:15don't get to like have a say in
- 21:17>> Oh, nice. Okay.
- 21:18>> how it comes out which is nice. They
- 21:20just give us access and that's
- 21:21>> Was that also true?
- 21:23>> Is that true for the stories in general?
- 21:24Like you just did that. Um
- 21:25>> yeah, the stories one.
- 21:27>> Yeah. If it's it's very obvious when
- 21:30they're sponsored because it like has to
- 21:31be by law and also like I always want it
- 21:33to be very obvious. I've also started
- 21:35adding a section to my uh video
- 21:39descriptions that I should make even
- 21:41more prominent that's like did you ever
- 21:43wonder who pays me what for these? Like
- 21:45here's what. And it basically explains
- 21:47this, which is like United gave us
- 21:48access to their space and then had no
- 21:50control over the video. Um, they did
- 21:52send me home with that very spiffy
- 21:54jacket that I was wearing, but that was
- 21:57the only bribe I accepted and that is
- 21:59not enough to buy me out. Um,
- 22:03>> that's good. No, I like that it's not uh
- 22:04sponsored.
- 22:05>> Yeah, that's the thing is Morning Brew
- 22:06just like Morning Brew wants to make
- 22:08interesting content, so they pay for me
- 22:10to do that. And sometimes my videos are
- 22:12very access dependent. So I do always
- 22:14need access from someone. Like sometimes
- 22:16it's access from the hot dog guy and I'm
- 22:18like working in his hot dog cart.
- 22:20>> Are you sending all these emails? Sorry.
- 22:21I mean
- 22:21>> I am sending all these emails. I
- 22:23actually um sent one really recently
- 22:26that was really it's it's my all-time
- 22:28greatest email. Um but it's for a video
- 22:31that comes out at the end of January. So
- 22:32it will it will remain a secret, but I
- 22:34will post about it a lot once the email
- 22:37is um publicly available information
- 22:39when the video is out. is my
- 22:41>> what is your what is your organiz
- 22:43because you are okay
- 22:45you you make me think I'm like am I not
- 22:47using for my hours in the day because
- 22:49I'm like like you'll put out a video and
- 22:52then you'll be shearing a sheep
- 22:55>> right
- 22:56>> the next like I I like uh what is your
- 22:58or how are you organized what are you
- 23:00doing
- 23:01>> um I live and die by the by the Google
- 23:03calendar um yeah I live and die by my
- 23:06Google calendar like I need it I
- 23:07schedule everything on it if if it's if
- 23:10something I'm supposed to do in the day
- 23:11is not on that, it won't get done. I'll
- 23:13just forget
- 23:13>> really.
- 23:14>> But if it's written on there, then I'll
- 23:15remember to do it and I will like block
- 23:16off time to do it. Like that's
- 23:18>> why it's in the calendar.
- 23:20>> Um, in general though, I would say I
- 23:22don't know. All I do is stuff all day
- 23:24long. Like I leave my house at like 7:30
- 23:26and I get home at like 11:00 most nights
- 23:28and then it's like that's my life every
- 23:30day of the week and then the weekends
- 23:31even more stuff.
- 23:32>> And you've structured this way because
- 23:33that's you like that.
- 23:34>> I do like that. I like find a lot of
- 23:37energy in that sometimes. And then like
- 23:39it's this until I crash and then I like
- 23:42go through like I'll have like most of
- 23:44the time it's like I will get sick
- 23:46because like that's not enough sleep to
- 23:47get
- 23:48>> and so it's like once a quarter I have a
- 23:50cold and I like rest for a week and then
- 23:51I'm back
- 23:53>> and that's I think a healthy lifestyle.
- 23:55>> You like r you like ran the marathon.
- 23:57>> Oh I ran marathon last year and I
- 23:59>> and Okay. It's I think I watch I don't
- 24:01know if I watched these back toback but
- 24:02I was like the um it was like I'm I'm
- 24:06donating my plasma now. running a
- 24:08marathon and I'm like no
- 24:10>> marathon was first marathon was first
- 24:12>> you also didn't end up donating your
- 24:13plasma is that right
- 24:14>> no I tried to donate my plasma because I
- 24:16wanted to expose these evil companies um
- 24:18and show
- 24:20>> I like to use my body as an experiment
- 24:23>> um and so I like to do these things for
- 24:26myself I think that like my philosophy
- 24:28with my videos is like there are so many
- 24:30interesting stories in the world and the
- 24:32most interesting way that I have found
- 24:33to tell them and most fun way for me to
- 24:35make it is number one. I do the thing
- 24:40myself to show you like the first day on
- 24:44the job. You know when people are always
- 24:46like I wish there was one regular person
- 24:48in the Olympics
- 24:50>> to like gauge cuz you know the runners
- 24:52are fast but you're like how I wonder
- 24:54how I would be next to them. I'm that
- 24:57right
- 24:57>> when I'm like in the agave fields and I
- 25:00like start harvesting this plant and I
- 25:01go Jesus Christ like it's over.
- 25:03>> That's not even a metaphor. for the
- 25:04running one. You literally are
- 25:07>> in the middle. Yeah, that was that was a
- 25:08direct one. Um, so I think it's fun for
- 25:12you to get that perspective of like how
- 25:13would you fair how would the average
- 25:15person fair first day at that job? And
- 25:17then I'm also interviewing the person
- 25:19who's been on that job for 30 years and
- 25:21this is like the thing that they
- 25:22specialize and like spend their life
- 25:23doing. So that's my that's my like video
- 25:26formula because it's fun for me to make
- 25:28and I think it's like two very important
- 25:30perspectives for my audience to walk
- 25:32away with.
- 25:33>> No, it's a great formula. Um, and it's
- 25:35Yeah, really it's just because it's the
- 25:36most fun for me to make.
- 25:38>> I'm gonna I I literally was like, uh, if
- 25:41Connor doesn't work out, I will go to
- 25:43that plumbing school,
- 25:44>> right? No, the plumbing school was so
- 25:45fun.
- 25:46>> Dude, awesome.
- 25:46>> Um, I was filming a video in Bosnia
- 25:49recently. That's the one that's coming
- 25:50out at the end of January that I sent
- 25:52the greatest email ever for. Um, and the
- 25:55guy who I was filming with in Bosnia,
- 25:57>> I should have I should have asked. Good
- 25:59follow. Good.
- 26:01>> I can't I can't say what the video is
- 26:03yet. being a secret, but
- 26:05>> um the guy who I was interviewing and
- 26:08like meeting in Bosnia,
- 26:11>> he is a huge fan of the Morning Brew
- 26:13YouTube channel, he's like this guy from
- 26:15Saraho and he's been subscribed to the
- 26:17channel for years where he's like a deep
- 26:19fan where he was asking me, he was like
- 26:21the guy at the plumbing school, he goes,
- 26:23"Was he really that mean to you or did
- 26:25you like ask him to do that for the
- 26:27camera?" And I was like, "Oh my god,
- 26:28you're like really watching."
- 26:30Holy [ __ ] Um, so that was a funny one.
- 26:34>> I brushed up. I I also I I am really
- 26:36watching, but I also did brush up ahead
- 26:38of time.
- 26:39>> I mean, I do a lot.
- 26:40>> I'm like I'm like the Hot Ones guy.
- 26:41>> The other thing though is that it's like
- 26:43my day job is doing that, you know? It's
- 26:47like I get to spend 40 hours a week
- 26:50thinking through like what would be a
- 26:52funny bit to do while I'm selling hot
- 26:54dogs or like
- 26:56>> my hosting inspiration is always a mix
- 27:00between like Conan O'Brien and Cleo
- 27:03Abram that does like Huge If True.
- 27:05That's like a really sciency
- 27:07>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Um
- 27:10>> it's like Optimistic Tech Stories or
- 27:12whatever.
- 27:13>> Yes. um
- 27:14>> she was like with BuzzFeed or something
- 27:15or one of one of those companies.
- 27:17>> Um but yeah, she'll go to like CERN or
- 27:19something in Switzerland and then talk
- 27:21about like what the hell they're doing
- 27:22there.
- 27:23>> And then like the Conan remotes,
- 27:26>> right?
- 27:26>> That's like I'm trying to be somewhere
- 27:27between those at all times.
- 27:29>> I could see that. That's that makes a
- 27:31lot of sense.
- 27:31>> And it was like watching the Conan
- 27:33remotes that I realized I was like, "Oh,
- 27:35he's not just doing improv." because
- 27:38like he did one where he like went and
- 27:40was like a UPS driver and he brought
- 27:43like a like a magnetic flame thing to
- 27:45put on the side of the UPS truck and
- 27:47that was
- 27:48>> you have to think about that ahead of
- 27:49time,
- 27:49>> right? And so that was the first time I
- 27:50realized I was like, "Oh my god, some of
- 27:53this of course is like improv and me
- 27:54being in the moment and like trying to
- 27:55be funny, but I'm like I should be
- 27:57pre-planning bits also." Um, and so now
- 28:01it just gets even more fun that like
- 28:02part of my job before any shoot is I'm
- 28:04like, is there a bit I should do on this
- 28:06and like should I order like props?
- 28:08>> Right. Are you at the habachi at the hot
- 28:10dog?
- 28:10>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. I did my hot dog.
- 28:13Michelin star hot dog.
- 28:14>> I like that.
- 28:15>> Um, yeah. So stuff like that that I'm
- 28:18like, "Oh yeah, I can just like think of
- 28:20things like that that would be funny."
- 28:22>> That's cool.
- 28:23>> It's so fun.
- 28:24>> And uh did I say this before the camera
- 28:26started rolling? You don't you're not
- 28:28doing standup. I'm not doing standup.
- 28:30I'm like sometimes I'll be on like
- 28:31friend shows. Well, I do a lot of like
- 28:34PowerPoint comedy. I'm big at Caveat.
- 28:36>> Oh, yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:37>> I love
- 28:38>> Great venue. Yeah,
- 28:39>> it's a really great venue.
- 28:40>> I missed the popcorn.
- 28:41>> Yeah, the popcorn. So good.
- 28:43>> Well, they have the they get rid of the
- 28:45>> It's back, I think,
- 28:46>> with all like the the hund
- 28:49still. Yeah. Yeah.
- 28:50>> Oh, [ __ ]
- 28:51>> I think it's back. That's where I did my
- 28:52magic show.
- 28:54>> Damn. Well, how recently was that?
- 28:56>> Magic show was in June. Oh, okay. Never
- 28:59mind. I thought they got rid of the
- 29:00popcorn thing.
- 29:01>> No, no, no. Maybe they got rid of it for
- 29:02a while, but it's back. At least the
- 29:04seasoning bar is there. I can't imagine
- 29:05they have seasonings and no popcorn.
- 29:07>> Yeah.
- 29:07>> Um, maybe they do. Um, yeah. I love
- 29:10caveat, but like at this point, I just
- 29:12do like that kind of like PowerPoint
- 29:14show, but like I don't love
- 29:16>> Good color choice, by the way. It's
- 29:17blending with the purple in like a way
- 29:19I'm enjoying the way I Yours is Okay.
- 29:22>> Oh, we'll come back to the PowerPoint
- 29:23show in a second, but yours is very
- 29:25clearly like a structured idea.
- 29:28this. Yeah.
- 29:29>> Like it's like there's a pattern you're
- 29:31following. There's a
- 29:32>> So this is Yeah, this is a cardigan and
- 29:34so you knit it in pieces and then you
- 29:36connect the pieces together. So the
- 29:37piece in my bag is the back piece and
- 29:39then look, this is the front. So the
- 29:41tall part there is the collar and then
- 29:42like that's my my shoulder sleeve.
- 29:45>> Okay.
- 29:45>> Yeah.
- 29:46>> Cool.
- 29:47>> Yeah.
- 29:48>> Oh, that's neat.
- 29:49>> That's the fun thing about patterns is
- 29:50you go, "Wow, look. Now it's a now it's
- 29:52an item. Now it's a shape that it's
- 29:53supposed to be."
- 29:54>> Did you make the hat? No,
- 29:54>> I didn't make the hat. the hat I bought
- 29:56in Bosnia from um this store I found
- 30:00that is
- 30:02a women's NGO in Bosnia where she
- 30:05teaches rural Bosnian women like more
- 30:07modern knitting patterns because all of
- 30:09them know how to knit but they knit
- 30:11these like super traditional things that
- 30:13like I love but there's not as much of a
- 30:15market for
- 30:16>> that are like these super thick socks
- 30:17that are almost more like like boots
- 30:19like slippers like they're very thick
- 30:21socks like structured
- 30:23>> um and that's like most of what they
- 30:24knit. and that's awesome, but there's
- 30:26not a huge market for it. So, this woman
- 30:27started an NGO because she was like
- 30:29wanting to empower these like rural
- 30:30women. Um, and so she just taught them
- 30:33like more modern knitting patterns and
- 30:34like more modern yarn like this one
- 30:37that's like just like softer. Um, and
- 30:40yeah, that's where my hat is from.
- 30:42>> It's nice. Looks good.
- 30:43>> Shout out Woolly Rouge in Sarah Yeevo.
- 30:45If you're ever over there,
- 30:48you know where to go. I uh I guess like
- 30:51the difference with embroidery is it's
- 30:53like I'm just sort of guessing the idea
- 30:55of a butterfly.
- 30:56>> Yeah. Well, have you ever done like
- 30:58cross stitch or like an embroidery?
- 31:00>> No. I think it would piss me off to
- 31:01follow a pattern. I don't have that kind
- 31:03of mind.
- 31:03>> Nightmare. Crossstitch is like the one
- 31:05fiber art that I do not love. I do
- 31:08unfortunately love the look of it
- 31:09though. And so I have suffered through a
- 31:12couple patterns like I repurposed this
- 31:14like super old traditional like bunny
- 31:17pattern that's like a little bunny
- 31:19rabbit that's kind of like praying at
- 31:21like a flower
- 31:23>> super quaint like it would be on your
- 31:25grandma's wall and then I made it say
- 31:27all hail the algorithm
- 31:30>> and like that makes me laugh. I like
- 31:32doing like really quaint fiber arts
- 31:34mixed with like a funny modern thing.
- 31:37I find I find algorithm jokes really
- 31:39funny. I've been trying
- 31:40>> because it's like it's that is my god. I
- 31:43think
- 31:43>> it's all of our lives. It's like so
- 31:45heavily like I mean this is in an
- 31:47algorithm. This is algorithmic. I know
- 31:49you you're I know you're from the
- 31:51algorithm.
- 31:52>> Yeah. It introduced us.
- 31:53>> That's Wow. People talk about the
- 31:55algorithm like quite negatively.
- 31:56>> I know. And it's like
- 31:57>> it's like my best friend that shows me
- 31:59everything in my life.
- 32:02>> It's like dude check out this monkey.
- 32:05You ever notice that the my impression
- 32:07of the algorithm? It's like, dude, look
- 32:08at this monkey.
- 32:09>> Look at this [ __ ] monkey. You're
- 32:11gonna love this.
- 32:11>> Look at how Look at how this gibbon has
- 32:13his damn hands. I'm g try to match your
- 32:14mic distance.
- 32:15>> Okay,
- 32:15>> just so I can Okay,
- 32:17>> sorry to [ __ ] with any
- 32:19>> Yeah, I'm ruining this in post for you.
- 32:21>> Um, yep.
- 32:22>> I'm going to make you do a full sound
- 32:24mix.
- 32:27>> No, the algorithm rocks. I mean, you
- 32:29have to teach it. And then also, it
- 32:31doesn't rock at all. I did recently get
- 32:33a radio and I've been really enjoying
- 32:36having a radio.
- 32:36>> Oh, it's like the algorithm is like some
- 32:38guy named Dave's personal opinions.
- 32:41>> Yeah,
- 32:42>> that's great.
- 32:43>> Um, no, exactly. That I'm like cuz then
- 32:46people go, "Oh, where'd you learn that
- 32:47song?" And I'll go
- 32:48>> the radio.
- 32:49>> Radio. That's awesome.
- 32:50>> Um, and that's the radio is like
- 32:52marketing now. I don't know how much
- 32:53you've listened to it lately, but
- 32:54they're like, "Real music chosen by real
- 32:56people." I'm like, "Oh, yeah.
- 32:59>> Interesting. That's literally like part
- 33:00of the brand." Oh, wow. That's like part
- 33:01of the branding now. Um
- 33:03>> I could see you doing a video Macy's
- 33:06radio station.
- 33:07>> Oh my god, I should do a radio station.
- 33:09Everybody I was going to say everybody
- 33:10has a podcast these days.
- 33:13>> They do.
- 33:14>> Oh no, no, no. The thing with the thing
- 33:16with this one is that I uh uh it's very
- 33:19low stakes and not important to me. This
- 33:21is kind of my like a not a main project.
- 33:23Right. Yeah. The com.
- 33:26Yeah. Yeah,
- 33:26>> that makes sense. And I love your
- 33:28standup. I don't know. I don't know that
- 33:30I've ever I don't think I've ever seen
- 33:32it live.
- 33:33>> No, that's all right. No, here's a hot
- 33:35take that I think comedians would care
- 33:38about more. So, we don't have to go into
- 33:39it too deep, but I do think that standup
- 33:42is a video medium.
- 33:43>> That's a really good point.
- 33:44>> Kind of always has, not always has been,
- 33:46but um
- 33:48>> I'll I'll give you the extremely brief
- 33:50overview is just that um
- 33:53>> prior to recording uh everybody just did
- 33:56the same jokes and like vaudeville it
- 33:58was like street jokes.
- 33:59>> Yeah. um everybody would just had these
- 34:02stock oneliners or
- 34:03>> whatever.
- 34:03>> Then with the invention of like records
- 34:07and album or like audio recording.
- 34:09>> Yeah.
- 34:09>> That's when joke credit started to
- 34:11matter,
- 34:12>> right?
- 34:12>> And so that's so then and that's how you
- 34:15could get an audience to begin with is
- 34:18>> somebody outside of this room is able to
- 34:19hear this because it's on a a physical
- 34:21object.
- 34:22>> Um and that's transitions to video. I've
- 34:24never seen Richard Prior live,
- 34:26>> right?
- 34:26>> You know what I mean? Yeah. Yeah, he he
- 34:28exists to me fully in the computer, you
- 34:30know.
- 34:32>> That's it. That's all right. Great. Frog
- 34:34it. What does that mean?
- 34:35>> I'm going to frog it. I'm going to undo
- 34:36it. Look, I decided. So, this is like
- 34:39the edge of the cardigan.
- 34:40>> I like your Subway, too, too, by the
- 34:42way. Okay. Good thing about hot takes.
- 34:43Okay.
- 34:44>> Um, this is the edge of the cardigan,
- 34:46and so it'll be like very visible. Like,
- 34:48it'll be where the two pieces meet. And
- 34:50I continued the stripe going from red to
- 34:53white, but I don't like you can see a
- 34:54lot of the red through the white. So,
- 34:56I'd rather I'm just going to do it solid
- 34:57red. So, I have to undo this. But this
- 34:59is how you undo it. Is you It's like a
- 35:02very dangerous game.
- 35:03>> Wait, why is it dangerous to undo it?
- 35:04>> Because if these slip off, I'm [ __ ]
- 35:08These slip off.
- 35:09>> Wait, really? What do you mean?
- 35:10>> Um, it can like all start to unravel.
- 35:12So, really?
- 35:13>> Oh, like the whole the whole [ __ ]
- 35:14thing can unravel.
- 35:15>> The whole thing can start.
- 35:17>> Do not curse. You're not a cursor.
- 35:26I am fine and everything is okay.
- 35:28>> Is it unraveling
- 35:30>> a little bit?
- 35:30>> Oh, no. I'll let you I'll let you f I'll
- 35:32let you focus.
- 35:34>> In fact, portion of the pod.
- 35:36>> Wait, hold on.
- 35:38>> This is the
- 35:39>> Can I move your mug out of the way?
- 35:40>> Oh, yeah. Yes. Get
- 35:43>> Let's get a Let's get a closeup.
- 35:44>> Get a closeup of of my nightmare. Do you
- 35:47have anything that's hookshaped?
- 35:50Is that a good shot?
- 35:53>> This is really good.
- 35:57>> Um,
- 35:57>> what kind of hook you talking about?
- 35:58What do you mean?
- 35:59>> I got a little hook.
- 36:00>> It's like, so knitting is just loops.
- 36:03And right now, my loops are coming out
- 36:04of my other loops. And so I'm going to
- 36:06go grab them back.
- 36:10I got to go pick them back up.
- 36:11>> First time I've tried to do a zoom like
- 36:13that. That's psycho and not working.
- 36:16>> Um,
- 36:16>> we'll see.
- 36:18Okay, we're in surgery mode.
- 36:21>> I got really excited
- 36:23and I shouldn't have done it that way,
- 36:26but I'm going to recover. I can recover
- 36:27from anything because I know how to knit
- 36:31and I need to believe in myself.
- 36:33>> Oh [ __ ] I think I just knocked the
- 36:34needle.
- 36:36>> Um,
- 36:36>> I knocked the needle on the floor. I'm
- 36:37gonna do a quick needle surge.
- 36:38>> Do a quick needle search. Um, it's the
- 36:41it's the fall apart portion of the show.
- 36:44Oh. Oh. Oh, I almost rescued it. This
- 36:46actually happened um the last pod too.
- 36:48Me and Jay Jordan both made bead
- 36:50bracelets and they both explode.
- 36:54>> That's perfect.
- 36:56>> Oh, I found it.
- 37:01>> God. Okay. I'm I'm I'm salvaging this.
- 37:04>> You got it?
- 37:05>> Yeah.
- 37:05>> Nice.
- 37:06>> I'm picking up those stitches.
- 37:13>> Thank you. Thank you. Am I preemptively
- 37:15clapping?
- 37:16>> Um, no. I got I got the big section that
- 37:18had fallen off already. And then now I'm
- 37:20going to do the section without letting
- 37:21them fall off. So now I'm very carefully
- 37:23going to pull one at a time and then
- 37:28pick it up before I pull anymore, which
- 37:30is much more manageable.
- 37:32>> Okay, I'll reset.
- 37:41knitting like mostly goes really well
- 37:43and you can kind of just fly through it
- 37:44and then sometimes you do stuff and you
- 37:46go, "Oh, no."
- 37:48I also do easy knitting patterns only.
- 37:50You can make lots of cool stuff that's
- 37:52like technically easy to make. Just
- 37:55takes time. M
- 37:56>> I'm not interested in making any
- 37:59intricate stuff right now cuz I like
- 38:02that it's a very like passive thing that
- 38:04I don't have to like
- 38:07pay much attention to while I make it.
- 38:09>> No, that makes sense. I made a um I made
- 38:12this hummingbird not too long ago with
- 38:13the embroidery.
- 38:14>> Oh, and thank you very much. And I am
- 38:17like it like went so well that I'm like
- 38:21terrified to ever do another one. Right.
- 38:23>> Because I'm like I'm never gonna I feel
- 38:24like I I feel like I had some sort of
- 38:26sauce in my mind that night that I will
- 38:28never get back.
- 38:29>> And so now I've been like
- 38:31>> embroidery peak. You feel?
- 38:33>> Yeah. Because then I made the butterfly
- 38:34after and I think it's just not as good.
- 38:36>> Uh so I don't know. There's something
- 38:38about um
- 38:39>> I don't know the intric intricate
- 38:41patterns are
- 38:42>> it's hard. It's like it's like a if you
- 38:45I don't know get into the eye of a
- 38:47needle type idea.
- 38:49>> Um
- 38:50>> what is this wire?
- 38:51>> The wire I'll show you. The wire is that
- 38:54my knitting needles are attached. So
- 38:55it's just two knitting needles that are
- 38:57attached by the wire because this
- 39:00pattern is a very special crazy kind of
- 39:02pattern where
- 39:04Okay, I fully saved it. It's a crazy
- 39:07kind of pattern where I have two colors
- 39:09that are attached at all times. Normally
- 39:10with stripes, you have to like cut the
- 39:12yarn at the end of each row and do it
- 39:14again.
- 39:15>> But this one, I like knit down to one
- 39:17side and so I'll like bring the red
- 39:19color all the way over here and then my
- 39:21white colors all the way over there. So
- 39:22then I like slide it back to the other
- 39:24end
- 39:25>> and start using the white again from
- 39:26that side.
- 39:27>> That's not usually how it's done.
- 39:28>> That's not usually how it's done. You
- 39:29usually use one color or if you're using
- 39:31stripes, you have to like cut it a bunch
- 39:33of times.
- 39:33>> You're kind of dual wheel. You're kind
- 39:34of
- 39:35>> Yeah.
- 39:36>> doing I think I had a piece of green
- 39:38string that I just lost. Oh, no.
- 39:40>> But I was Do you see a green string?
- 39:42>> I see no green. Well, is it this green
- 39:44string?
- 39:45>> No.
- 39:45>> No, it's the same color. Wait,
- 39:47>> no. It's It was one of these.
- 39:49>> H.
- 39:51This is a mystery.
- 39:54>> Oh my god. Speaking of mysteries,
- 39:57>> that's the thing about doing arts and
- 39:58crafts pot is like then the crafts like
- 40:01I'll have like an interesting person.
- 40:02Yeah. Then
- 40:04like I'll have like have Jerry Seinfeld
- 40:07on. I'm like, "Shut the [ __ ] up. Shut
- 40:08the [ __ ] up.
- 40:10I think he really likes arts and crafts.
- 40:12>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 40:13>> I think his girlfriend taught him how to
- 40:14do it.
- 40:15>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. They taught him uh
- 40:17macaroni art.
- 40:18>> Macaroni art.
- 40:20>> Um that Okay, so now I I just undid the
- 40:24thing I did for like the last 15
- 40:25minutes. But it's okay because it's
- 40:26going to be worth it.
- 40:27>> I got to find this other damn green
- 40:29string.
- 40:29>> Find this freaking green string.
- 40:32>> Um this history for Benois Blanc. Right
- 40:35before right before you frogged it, I
- 40:36had a question for you that the
- 40:38listeners are
- 40:40>> into here. You said something about my
- 40:42Subway take.
- 40:42>> Oh, that too.
- 40:43>> You didn't touch on.
- 40:44>> Oh, we were kind of going down the
- 40:45direction of like algorithm in general.
- 40:47>> Um,
- 40:48>> and talk about algorithm.
- 40:49>> Yeah,
- 40:49>> the algorithm
- 40:50>> that ended up on a crazy side of the
- 40:52algorithm of people who like
- 40:54intentionally were misunderstanding me
- 40:56and in very bad faith. Also, my subway
- 40:59take for those unfamiliar.
- 41:01>> Kill all dogs you see on site. kill all
- 41:03dogs you see on site and everybody's
- 41:05acting like I'm the devil.
- 41:07Um
- 41:10my subway take was every transplant
- 41:12should have to volunteer somewhere.
- 41:13>> Yes.
- 41:14>> And then um the alt-right on Twitter
- 41:17found it and was like so you meant
- 41:19immigrants and I was like well so no
- 41:23that's why I didn't
- 41:24>> that's why I said trans
- 41:25>> say immigrants. That's why I said
- 41:26transplant which like inherently means
- 41:28like someone of means and like with free
- 41:31time and like probably not maybe very
- 41:33involved in their community. Um
- 41:36>> also what is the alt-rights point there?
- 41:38It's like immigrants shouldn't have to
- 41:40do local volunteer lab like what was the
- 41:42alt-rights point?
- 41:43>> Well they were like so you agree with us
- 41:46>> that they have to work to prove that
- 41:47they deserve to be here and I was like I
- 41:49don't think that you think that's what I
- 41:50meant. I think that you know that that's
- 41:52different. Um, the other thing is
- 41:54they're like, "Oh, yeah. Replace the
- 41:57word transplant with the word
- 41:58immigrant." And it's like, "Well, that's
- 41:59why we don't replace words with
- 42:03replace the word transplants with sick
- 42:05puppies." Not so funny now, is it?
- 42:07>> Wait, that is [ __ ] up. Do you want
- 42:09sick puppies to do labor?
- 42:11>> I do, actually. Well, and then lots of
- 42:13people in the comments truly just like,
- 42:15and God bless them, were like, "People
- 42:17who have gotten organ transplants have
- 42:19gone through enough. They should not
- 42:21have to volunteer." And I'm like, "So
- 42:23that's not They I think genuinely
- 42:25misunderstood me, which was awesome that
- 42:27they thought transplants meant um
- 42:30>> organ."
- 42:32>> People do misunderstand everything.
- 42:33>> Yeah. That's the thing about the
- 42:34internet is it's like it's almost better
- 42:37because it's like that's fine. That's
- 42:39just part of it.
- 42:40>> Yeah.
- 42:40>> Like you just have to drop it. We uh
- 42:42actually last podcast I had Jay Jordan
- 42:44on with the clip was about like how a
- 42:48guy making like a watermelon joke was
- 42:50similar to like uh 1960s like Jim Crow
- 42:53era iconography
- 42:55>> and a lot of the comments were like
- 42:56there's nothing like Jim Crow laws
- 42:58>> and and we were like yeah that's why we
- 43:00said iconography
- 43:02>> right right it's a different it's tough
- 43:06it's not a place for nuance
- 43:08>> no
- 43:08>> I find that YouTube at least is like
- 43:11>> you know when I have like a 20 minute
- 43:12episode, I have more room for nuance,
- 43:15which is nice. Um, but like that is
- 43:18still not nuance. It's just nuance
- 43:20compared to, you know, an Instagram
- 43:22reel.
- 43:23>> Um, a little more time to explain
- 43:25myself.
- 43:26>> I did uh I said something online about
- 43:28like eating a I forget exact I forget
- 43:31the exact idea, but it was something
- 43:32about like um when you buy something,
- 43:35you were like down money. Um, and
- 43:38somebody else was like, "Um, well, no,
- 43:40like you're you're up in the sense that
- 43:42like you get a s like you you get to
- 43:44have a sandwich." That's like you're up.
- 43:46>> And I'm like I was like, "No, I said the
- 43:47word money though,
- 43:48>> right? You're down money."
- 43:49>> I'm not like talking about like vibe,
- 43:51>> right?
- 43:52>> I forget the exact context, but
- 43:53>> Right. It's like an it is an exchange of
- 43:56>> of money for a a good or a service. Was
- 44:00a sandwich a good or a service? I guess
- 44:01it's
- 44:02>> a service. Depends on what you're doing
- 44:03with it.
- 44:05>> Hell yeah. I'm going to try to find this
- 44:07green string.
- 44:08>> This green string is like hot topic.
- 44:12>> My life is ruined if I can't find this
- 44:14green string.
- 44:14>> It's over. It's because you don't have
- 44:16anymore.
- 44:18>> Yeah. Okay. Here's the thing with it is
- 44:19that um basically what happens is I get
- 44:22an arm's length of the embroidery. Oh
- 44:24yeah.
- 44:24>> And then I cut it and then I have the
- 44:26extra Yeah. You have the extra threads
- 44:27and it goes and they're the perfect same
- 44:30exact length. Right. So this wing, the
- 44:32amount of green I put on this one. If I
- 44:34have that other green string, it's going
- 44:35to be the same amount of green.
- 44:37>> Yeah, I had that feeling actually.
- 44:39>> [ __ ]
- 44:40>> But your arm should still be the same
- 44:41length. I don't think you've grown that
- 44:43fast.
- 44:43>> Oh, wait. That's a good point.
- 44:45>> Oh, we're so back. We're so up.
- 44:47>> We're so up. All right. Thank you.
- 44:48You've saved you saved me from just
- 44:50perpetually spiraling on the podcast.
- 44:52>> Um, how do you feel about
- 44:55>> Oh, yeah. Your turn to ask. You
- 44:56interview me. What are we talking about?
- 44:57>> Yeah. I'm really into natural fibers,
- 45:00making my own stuff. Obviously, it's my
- 45:01whole vibe. I want to make my own silk,
- 45:05but do you know how they do that? Cuz
- 45:06it's really bad. I don't think I could
- 45:08do it.
- 45:09>> You got to You got to get from
- 45:10>> them in the cocoons.
- 45:11>> Yeah.
- 45:12>> Yeah. And then you unravel their cocoon
- 45:14and you steal it all away.
- 45:15>> They used to eat them.
- 45:17>> Um Yeah. I think they still eat the ones
- 45:19that aren't the like flawed ones.
- 45:22>> Oh, really?
- 45:22>> Yeah. But the ones that are like
- 45:24imperfect, they eat and then like most
- 45:26of them they like just unravel and like
- 45:29the whole cocoon unravels in like a
- 45:31single thread and that's what silk is
- 45:32made from is those threads.
- 45:33>> I don't I don't know if I feel the
- 45:36because they are worms so I I I don't
- 45:39know how terribly
- 45:40>> they would turn into moths. So they are
- 45:42like caterpillars,
- 45:43>> right? Right. Right.
- 45:44>> Yeah. But they're called silk worms.
- 45:45Yeah.
- 45:46>> Yes. Okay. But but um I guess my thought
- 45:48is like um
- 45:52in terms of like animal killing ethics.
- 45:54>> Yeah.
- 45:55>> Uh bugs I I do I do think it's like well
- 45:57it is a bug,
- 45:58>> right?
- 45:59>> You know what I mean? So I don't I don't
- 46:00know.
- 46:00>> I have a lot less emotional connection
- 46:02to it certainly. Um
- 46:04>> I don't know.
- 46:05>> I was just talking to someone about
- 46:06rotisserie chickens today. Do you know
- 46:07the average age of a rotisserie chicken
- 46:09at the grocery store? Like before
- 46:10they're slaughtered.
- 46:12>> Guess.
- 46:13>> Okay. I'll I'll get I'll try to hazard a
- 46:16real guess because they are usually
- 46:17smaller than like a full chicken.
- 46:19>> Yeah.
- 46:20>> Uh okay. And let's see. Chickens
- 46:23probably become fulls size way faster
- 46:25than you think. Like three months or
- 46:26something. So I'm going to go I'm going
- 46:28to go with one month.
- 46:29>> They are five to seven weeks old. That's
- 46:31really good guess.
- 46:33>> Um
- 46:34>> but yeah, I'm like I want to make a
- 46:35video about rotisserie chickens,
- 46:37>> but like there's no way they're letting
- 46:39me onto a factory farm. That's the thing
- 46:41is a lot of my videos it's like my
- 46:43videos since I need so much access to
- 46:45stuff and I can't really like sneak into
- 46:47places. Maybe I should just get better
- 46:48at sneaking into places. Um but I
- 46:52generally have to ask for access.
- 46:54Companies that know they're going to
- 46:56come off looking bad do not let me have
- 46:58access.
- 46:58>> Oh, interesting. Yeah.
- 46:59>> Yeah. I can see like uh somebody who's
- 47:01been factory farming for 30 years next
- 47:04to Macy. You're like hitting the
- 47:05chicken's head off wrong. You're like
- 47:07bludgeoning it. Totally. I hit it with
- 47:09this rock. Right.
- 47:10>> Yeah.
- 47:11>> And this is what every chicken at
- 47:13Walmart is.
- 47:13>> The agave stick on the chicken.
- 47:16>> Exactly.
- 47:18Um
- 47:19>> Yeah. No, factory farming is really
- 47:21[ __ ]
- 47:21>> It's really [ __ ] Yeah.
- 47:23>> Um I was also I was at the Would you
- 47:26believe I went to the New York Sheep and
- 47:28Wool Festival.
- 47:29>> Would you believe that's a place I hang
- 47:30out? Um so my vibe. Uh I took a leather
- 47:36and parchment class there. Did you know
- 47:38parchment used to be like parchment used
- 47:40to actually mean something specific, not
- 47:42just like a kind of paper? It's
- 47:44parchment is leather. It's an animal
- 47:47skin product
- 47:48>> really
- 47:48>> that's been like dried um and like
- 47:50smoothed out. Um and like Toras
- 47:53according to Jewish law still have to
- 47:55have like actual parchment paper.
- 47:56>> Oh, interesting.
- 47:57>> Um and it has to be like made in a
- 47:59special way. The woman who like taught
- 48:00the class was Jewish and was like
- 48:02showing us like a Torah grade piece of
- 48:04parchment versus like just artist
- 48:05parchment. but it like soaks up like ink
- 48:08and paint in a really interesting way.
- 48:10So, a lot of artists still want to use
- 48:12like real parchment. And so, this woman
- 48:13owns this like business in the Hudson
- 48:15Valley doing this. And she was talking
- 48:17about like leather industry and leather
- 48:18ethics. Obviously, she cares a lot about
- 48:20that.
- 48:21>> Um, working in that business. And did
- 48:24you know that like all of the animals
- 48:25that are factory farmed in the US, we
- 48:27just like waste the leather
- 48:29>> really?
- 48:29>> Like the way that they're butchered, it
- 48:31just like cuts it. You lose the leather.
- 48:33like they don't like spare it or try to
- 48:35keep it in one like usable piece at all.
- 48:38And so I'm like that's my new biggest
- 48:40like environmental fashion ethics
- 48:42whatever take is like it should be
- 48:45illegal to not get the skin of the
- 48:48animal you're already butchering.
- 48:49>> Damn. I I'm curious uh this is because
- 48:52this touched into that already. Um what
- 48:54are some videos that maybe because the
- 48:58companies would come off wrong uh or
- 49:00that you can't get access? What are some
- 49:03secret Macy Desire videos such as
- 49:06factory farming where the leather
- 49:07industry?
- 49:08>> My white whale is skyscraper window
- 49:10washing.
- 49:11>> That one is not that they would
- 49:12necessarily come off wrong. It's that
- 49:14they do not have anything to gain from
- 49:18like a marketing perspective from even
- 49:20that video going really well. Like
- 49:21that's not like a business that needs
- 49:23like marketing. Like there are like two
- 49:24companies that do that. It's also just
- 49:26obviously way incredibly high risk where
- 49:29like they don't want me to do that. Um,
- 49:34other videos I want to do a video on
- 49:36like
- 49:38>> I'm really obsessed with the idea of
- 49:39doing things from start to finish.
- 49:41Obviously,
- 49:42>> also I like the idea that the skyscraper
- 49:43company window washing is like somehow
- 49:45really unethical too.
- 49:47>> They might be they're using pure leather
- 49:49or something.
- 49:50Sorry, you were saying you were saying
- 49:52>> um
- 49:52>> your other idea
- 49:53>> my other idea that I wanted to do is AI
- 49:56from start to finish and I want to like
- 49:58I want to go like mine the rare earth
- 50:00metals that go into the chips and then I
- 50:02want to like go to the like data center
- 50:05and like see the you know all the water
- 50:07that's used to cool stuff and whatever
- 50:09whatever. Um obviously no step in that
- 50:13process are they going to want me to do
- 50:15that. Oh, sure. I keep thinking I've
- 50:17been thinking about like, okay, you know
- 50:18how they're always like, well, the
- 50:19cobalt in your phone is like minded by
- 50:21slaves, etc. I'm like I'm always like,
- 50:24>> okay,
- 50:26>> why there's so many things in this
- 50:28phone? Uh why why are they having some
- 50:33of the stuff be slave stuff? Like, stop
- 50:37doing that. Like, get cobalt. Like, I
- 50:39know. Like, I'm like, okay, does cobalt
- 50:41only come from slave mines?
- 50:43>> I think it does. I think that the only
- 50:45countries that are like actively mining
- 50:46cobalt like use slave labor to do it
- 50:48because it's like really bad. And see
- 50:50that's another one that I want to do and
- 50:52then knock it off.
- 50:53>> Knock it off.
- 50:54>> Make the phones worse until we [ __ ]
- 50:56figure that out. You know what I mean?
- 50:57It's like don't be like, "Ah, sorry. We
- 51:00got to have the telephone." You know
- 51:01what I mean,
- 51:02>> right? Um feels feels like we could uh
- 51:07take a stand on that one. Maybe any of
- 51:09the companies that benefit from said
- 51:11slave labor could could take a stand on
- 51:13that one. Um
- 51:15but um yeah, for now they haven't. Um
- 51:19>> sorry, let me
- 51:20>> No, it's this was a lot of what I
- 51:22thought about during my like tech
- 51:23wastist video. That stuff is another
- 51:25thing where like not only
- 51:27>> is the cobalt mining company not going
- 51:30to want me to go there. Morning Brew, I
- 51:33put them through so much. They they new
- 51:36rules exist all the time because I have
- 51:39to do
- 51:39>> What are some of them? Well, like um
- 51:42even for the for the tequila video, my
- 51:45boss was like,
- 51:46>> "Stop drinking tequila."
- 51:47>> I don't know. Yeah. He was like, "Stop
- 51:48drinking at work." Um but he knows that
- 51:50won't happen. So he was like, "I don't
- 51:54know how safe I feel about that cuz we
- 51:56like flew into Guadalajara and then you
- 51:57have to like drive over to Tequila um
- 51:59which is like a three-hour drive." And
- 52:01so he was like, "Let me see if I feel
- 52:02like this is safe." and he was like
- 52:06googling like
- 52:07>> highway kidnappings
- 52:10in Guadalara.
- 52:11>> Very very easy. That's crazy. I know.
- 52:13>> But it's easy to easy to drive into
- 52:15Tequila, but it's very difficult driving
- 52:17back out. It's hard to see the road.
- 52:20Sorry.
- 52:21>> The road there's like two roads going
- 52:22out. There's one road going in. There's
- 52:23two roads going out.
- 52:25>> Um
- 52:26>> that is crazy. Was it Was it dangerous?
- 52:28Was it like a
- 52:28>> No, I felt like we were safe the whole
- 52:30time. The other thing is because we're
- 52:31going with Joseé Quervo who's like
- 52:34showing us their factory like they just
- 52:36sent a driver for us
- 52:37>> and so like that is like the only time
- 52:39we would we have like accepted money
- 52:41from a brand that we're covering is that
- 52:43it's like
- 52:44>> a safety
- 52:44>> a safety thing and then it's also like
- 52:47>> yeah like that's you know that's not a
- 52:50concern. Um, but yeah, it's funny that
- 52:52like I don't consider my safety in that
- 52:55way, like really ever, but like as the
- 52:59company that employs me, like they could
- 53:01obviously it would be worse for them if
- 53:04something happened to me,
- 53:05>> right? Right. Of course.
- 53:06>> Um, and so sometimes with my video
- 53:08ideas, they're like, "We're not sending
- 53:09you to the Congo
- 53:12>> to mine cobalt
- 53:13>> to mine cobalt." I'm like, "Okay,
- 53:14>> I see my starting
- 53:15>> this place is a [ __ ] prison, right?
- 53:18We should start we should start a
- 53:19workerowned cobalt mining
- 53:22>> ethical.
- 53:23>> I like that.
- 53:24>> Well, I guess part of the part of the
- 53:25recycling video is it's like it's not I
- 53:28mean it's still the cobalt was
- 53:29originally mined by slaves, but it's
- 53:31like in the sense of like a more sem
- 53:34semi more ethical cobalt source. It's
- 53:37recycled.
- 53:37>> Recycled, right?
- 53:38>> Well, yeah. It's like diamonds. I want
- 53:41to do a video on the diamond industry. I
- 53:42might try to do that next year and see
- 53:44if I can go.
- 53:46>> Diamond mining would be tough, of
- 53:48course, because that's going to be
- 53:50pretty similar to the cobalt thing.
- 53:53>> Um, maybe there's a company that's like,
- 53:55"We mine diamonds, but we think we have
- 53:56ethical standards." And they would let
- 53:58me go see it.
- 53:59Um, but then I would love to go to one
- 54:02of the labs where they grow diamonds
- 54:04>> and watch what that looks like because I
- 54:06imagine do you ever make those like
- 54:07crystal candies as a kid where you just
- 54:09like stick the stick in the sugar water
- 54:11and then there's like crystals on there.
- 54:13I think that's how the diamonds work,
- 54:14right,
- 54:15>> dude? Our our we've got our Himalayan we
- 54:17got a Himalayan salt lamp and it's in
- 54:19our bathroom.
- 54:20>> Yeah.
- 54:21>> And it's growing like the like the base
- 54:25of it like there's salt crystals or
- 54:26something. I don't know exactly. Maybe.
- 54:28>> Is it growing or is it melting? Cuz my
- 54:29sister's melted.
- 54:31>> That could be it. Maybe it's melting.
- 54:32>> Humid. Humid in the bathroom. It's
- 54:34probably melting.
- 54:34>> Okay. It's probably melting and then
- 54:35reforming
- 54:36>> and then reforming at the bottom.
- 54:37>> Good point. There's no salt in the air.
- 54:38I didn't think about that for like a
- 54:40second.
- 54:40>> Yeah.
- 54:40>> There's Yeah.
- 54:42>> Um,
- 54:44>> good point. Good point.
- 54:46>> Hate to say it. I watched it happen with
- 54:48my sister's lamp. Um, and it was also on
- 54:50like a she had it sitting on like a
- 54:52metal table and the metal table like
- 54:54rusted from all the sun.
- 54:55>> Oh no.
- 54:55>> I was like, "Girl, get this out of
- 54:56here." Why also why why is the newest
- 55:00lampshade trend a big chunk of salt?
- 55:04>> I'm
- 55:05into it too, but it's like everybody's
- 55:06got
- 55:07>> awesome. We were like, well, if we put
- 55:08the lamps under salt,
- 55:09>> but like everybody was like,
- 55:11>> we could never do it before because when
- 55:13lamp was candle, candle would go out
- 55:17because there's no air.
- 55:19>> So, think about that.
- 55:19>> That's true.
- 55:20>> This is this is the first time in in
- 55:22human history that it's even been
- 55:23possible.
- 55:24>> Oh, yeah. That's awesome. That's a
- 55:26positive new technology.
- 55:27>> Yeah.
- 55:27>> Deep dive into the Himalayan. Are they
- 55:29really from Himalayan?
- 55:30>> No, they can't be.
- 55:31>> No.
- 55:32>> Right. I don't even know that.
- 55:36>> The lamp. But the lamp.
- 55:37>> The lamp.
- 55:40>> You telling me a Himalayan salted this
- 55:42lamp?
- 55:43>> We We're doing Oh, wow. I kind of
- 55:45checked close to an hour.
- 55:45>> Freaking fly by.
- 55:46>> Yeah, I'm kind of We were We were
- 55:49cooking. I feel like Well, okay. Um,
- 55:52you're one of the few guests I've had on
- 55:53that I actually hadn't met in person
- 55:54previously.
- 55:55>> That's fun.
- 55:56>> Uh, so that's kind of neat. I because I
- 55:57liked your stuff online and I was like,
- 55:59thanks.
- 55:59>> And I also was like I I mean I would see
- 56:02you like a standup thing, too. So I was
- 56:04like, oh, I think we could Yeah.
- 56:05>> I think we'd have a mutual
- 56:07understanding, right?
- 56:08>> Um, so it's the shout out to the
- 56:10algorithm.
- 56:11>> Shout out to the algorithm. People are
- 56:12mean about it.
- 56:13>> Yeah. What do you What are your thoughts
- 56:14on the algorithm?
- 56:15>> I like the I mean literally my entire
- 56:17life, right? Like the performance of my
- 56:19job. I guess in a way you can also
- 56:21relate to is very much measured on does
- 56:23the algorithm like me.
- 56:24>> Yes.
- 56:25>> Yeah. Yeah. And so I have a a special
- 56:28relationship with it where it's like
- 56:30well I need to understand it a lot and I
- 56:32need it to be on my side.
- 56:33>> Also wait where I I guess where I was
- 56:35where I was going with that was just
- 56:36that we kind of came in hot immediately
- 56:38and I was like this video this video
- 56:40this video this video because I was like
- 56:42I haven't I haven't ever had a chance to
- 56:44you know what I mean?
- 56:45>> Yeah. No, that makes sense.
- 56:46>> That's neat. Do you have any hot takes
- 56:48you're cooking that you weren't able to
- 56:49do on Subway? Do you also work I I like
- 56:52workshopped a few Subway takes before
- 56:53doing it?
- 56:54>> Oh, yeah. No, it was lucky. I had it was
- 56:56like my birthday right before I went on
- 56:58Subway Takes. So, I had all of the
- 57:00people that I love and trust in one
- 57:02place and I go, "All right, we're going
- 57:03to run down the list." And then we even
- 57:06went through like phrasing of like what
- 57:09people were going to like latch on to
- 57:10the most and like misunderstand
- 57:12intentionally or whatever. Um, so yes, I
- 57:15got to I got to test them on
- 57:17>> and and you still got misunderstood.
- 57:18>> And I still got misunderstood in an
- 57:20awesome way, but I got misunderstood by
- 57:22people that I don't like or care about.
- 57:24And so that is ultimately okay.
- 57:27>> Well, I've actually Okay. Uh, I've
- 57:28noticed that as well for online.
- 57:30>> What was your take?
- 57:32>> We should eat bugs.
- 57:33>> Oh, yeah.
- 57:34>> I should have workshop that a bit.
- 57:36>> No, it's good.
- 57:36>> I uh
- 57:37>> Okay. Sorry.
- 57:38>> Oh, no. just a thing of um I've noticed
- 57:40for online um
- 57:43that if somebody who disagrees or
- 57:44criticizes my stuff, if I can tell that
- 57:47they're like some sort of psycho [ __ ]
- 57:49Yeah.
- 57:49>> I kind of I'm like, well, that doesn't
- 57:50matter.
- 57:51>> Right.
- 57:51>> But and like because I but I think that
- 57:53I do actually try to take online
- 57:55criticism genuinely if I think it's
- 57:57coming from someone who I think has some
- 57:59sort of discerning judgment.
- 58:01>> Right.
- 58:01>> I can make mistakes and sometimes people
- 58:03in my comments will tell me that.
- 58:04>> Yes. And that's hard to accept.
- 58:06>> It's hard to accept. One of you [ __ ]
- 58:09the other day let me know that my Bernie
- 58:11Sanders joke the punch line should come
- 58:13further at the end and I was like
- 58:14they're right the right
- 58:14>> [ __ ]
- 58:16>> That's awesome for them to be like
- 58:18giving you notes.
- 58:18>> Yeah. No, but don't do that generally.
- 58:21Let me write the damn joke. Sorry.
- 58:23>> Well, cuz then you're mad when you have
- 58:24to do it their way or you have to not
- 58:26take the note because you're like I
- 58:28don't want to do their joke forever.
- 58:30>> People when people do people give you
- 58:33advice a lot?
- 58:35>> No.
- 58:35>> Or something. Okay. Um,
- 58:37>> people tell you, I don't know.
- 58:38>> People will comment and they'll be like,
- 58:39"Oh, and you didn't even bring up this
- 58:41thing or that thing." And I'm like,
- 58:42"Yeah, I didn't. Maybe I should have. I
- 58:44don't know. I didn't feel like it fit
- 58:45here or like I didn't have a way to
- 58:47bring it up, but like
- 58:48>> I don't know. Maybe." But generally,
- 58:50they'll just be like, "And you didn't
- 58:51even touch on like this element." Like
- 58:53with my tequila video, they're like,
- 58:54"You didn't even talk about the fact
- 58:55that Jose Quervo has a bunch of
- 58:56additives in their tequila." And I'm
- 58:57like, "I didn't find that an interesting
- 59:00point."
- 59:01>> Mhm.
- 59:02>> Um, so
- 59:05like
- 59:05>> Yeah. note taking like I knew that ahead
- 59:08of time and I disagreed.
- 59:09>> Yeah, it's just like I don't know. Maybe
- 59:11it's like a shelf stable. I don't know
- 59:12what
- 59:13>> that's the only um
- 59:14>> that's the only uh kind of like note
- 59:17people give me.
- 59:18>> I get uh people are always like pitching
- 59:20me jokes and I'm like how do you think
- 59:22this works? So, you think I'm going to
- 59:24take this joke?
- 59:25>> Well, people pitch me video concepts all
- 59:27the time.
- 59:27>> I just did it I did it 10 minutes ago.
- 59:29>> Um yeah, but I feel like all of yours
- 59:31were good.
- 59:33>> They're like there's this I don't know.
- 59:35They just I'm like sometimes people will
- 59:37say stuff to me and I'm like you have a
- 59:38fundamental mis misunderstanding of what
- 59:39I'm up to here.
- 59:41>> What are what are some of your what are
- 59:42some of your other limiting factors
- 59:44besides okay you've got that
- 59:46accessibility safety
- 59:47>> the brand wanting me to do it or not.
- 59:49>> Mhm. Um, sometimes it is a time thing.
- 59:52Like I wish that like it was, you know,
- 59:551985 and you could, you know, work at
- 59:59the town paper and get to spend six
- 1:00:02months going in depth on one single
- 1:00:04story, but it's like I work for the
- 1:00:08algorithm and the algorithm wants
- 1:00:10content from me on a little bit more of
- 1:00:12a consistent basis. And so like I can
- 1:00:14take longer on projects, but like if I'm
- 1:00:17taking longer on a project, it's like in
- 1:00:19the background while I'm putting out
- 1:00:20other stuff still.
- 1:00:21>> Are you are you paid by the algorithm
- 1:00:23too? Like is if a video is viral, this
- 1:00:25Morning Bro This Morning Brew all go,
- 1:00:27"Yay, Macy." I have it like in my
- 1:00:30contract I'm like a salaried employee
- 1:00:33and then I get a bonus based on ad
- 1:00:36revenue on the show which is partially
- 1:00:38based on like Google AdSense
- 1:00:40>> um
- 1:00:41>> like the YouTube monetization
- 1:00:42>> like the YouTube like midroll ad
- 1:00:44monetization and then also from like ad
- 1:00:47reads that I do like the tequila video
- 1:00:49had an ad read for like a travel company
- 1:00:52app um and so like I get a cut of that
- 1:00:57um so that's kind of based on the
- 1:00:59performance of the videos, but like
- 1:01:00generally Morning Brew is a really good
- 1:01:04and in a way I really appreciate of like
- 1:01:05not being like make everything go viral
- 1:01:09at all costs. Like it's just like yeah,
- 1:01:11if it happens that's great. Obviously
- 1:01:13the goal is for things to get views but
- 1:01:15like not in an insane way.
- 1:01:17>> Uh was the stamp one the first one? The
- 1:01:19stamp one was the second one I did in
- 1:01:22that series of like the how are you
- 1:01:24still in business series where I like
- 1:01:27profile the small businesses.
- 1:01:28>> That was the first one I saw.
- 1:01:30>> The first one that I ever did was down
- 1:01:31the street. Um uh pigeons on Broadway.
- 1:01:35>> What? I don't know about this.
- 1:01:36>> It's on like Broadway and Hollyy. H
- 1:01:39>> um
- 1:01:40>> was it was it a pigeon store?
- 1:01:41>> He sells pigeons. His name is Michael
- 1:01:43Scott and he sells pigeons.
- 1:01:44>> What? Now, Michael Scott is
- 1:01:46controversial because some people do you
- 1:01:48know Mother Pigeon?
- 1:01:50>> No.
- 1:01:51>> Mother Pigeon is a really cool gal.
- 1:01:54Really sick vibe. She lives near here
- 1:01:56and she feeds a flock of pigeons in
- 1:01:57Maria Hernandez Park.
- 1:01:59>> Really? That's awesome.
- 1:01:59>> She also crafts these really cool felt
- 1:02:02pigeons, like little statues that are
- 1:02:04cute that she sells. Um, she claims and
- 1:02:08then she's really big on pigeon rights.
- 1:02:09also leads these workshops I've been
- 1:02:12wanting to go to where she teaches you
- 1:02:13to use a needle uh cutter thing for
- 1:02:17sewing. Uh I forget the word. It's a
- 1:02:21little tiny sewing tool that you can
- 1:02:22just like throw in your bag and you can
- 1:02:25use it to cut the strings off pigeons
- 1:02:27feet when you see them and they have
- 1:02:28like string wrapped around their toes
- 1:02:30because if the string stays on their
- 1:02:31toes it'll like cut off their
- 1:02:32circulation and they'll lose their toe.
- 1:02:34>> So she is all about pigeon rights,
- 1:02:36pigeon advocacy, pigeon art. She's cool.
- 1:02:39She's awesome. Super weird lady. She
- 1:02:41claims that Michael Scott of Pigeons on
- 1:02:43Broadway is selling his pigeons to
- 1:02:47pigeon hunts that happen in Pennsylvania
- 1:02:49where people release a bunch of pigeons
- 1:02:52and then just shoot at a bunch of
- 1:02:53pigeons in the sky, which is a hobby
- 1:02:55some people have, I guess.
- 1:02:57>> Wow.
- 1:02:58>> Um, and so since making that video, I
- 1:03:01learned about that and I was like, "Oh,
- 1:03:04well,
- 1:03:05>> damn."
- 1:03:06>> Yeah. I don't know how much merit there
- 1:03:08is to that. There was one time where
- 1:03:10like someone went to Maria Hernandez
- 1:03:11Park and like literally with a net like
- 1:03:14in like a cheesy kids movie, like a like
- 1:03:16an animal catcher net,
- 1:03:19>> netted a bunch of pigeons and threw them
- 1:03:20in the back of a van
- 1:03:22>> and she said that it was Michael Scott.
- 1:03:24A video came out and it was clearly not
- 1:03:25him.
- 1:03:26>> Another van comes up, releases a bunch
- 1:03:28of and releases a bunch of pigeons in
- 1:03:29the same spot and they're all like
- 1:03:31wearing sunglasses.
- 1:03:32>> Exactly.
- 1:03:33Um whether or not it's she
- 1:03:35>> true that that was Michael Scott, I
- 1:03:37don't know. But like there are a lot of
- 1:03:40>> allegations of him not being nice to the
- 1:03:42pigeons. And I really don't know.
- 1:03:43>> Pigeon drama. Wow.
- 1:03:44>> It's a lot of pigeon drama. I saw him be
- 1:03:47very nice to the flock of pigeons he has
- 1:03:49on his roof. But she claims that he has
- 1:03:51like two classes of pigeons in his mind.
- 1:03:53He has fancy pigeons on his roof. He has
- 1:03:55a flock of 700 pigeons on his roof that
- 1:03:57he like breeds and like selects for like
- 1:03:59the little colors on their neck. Um,
- 1:04:03and then some of the pigeons are like
- 1:04:07ones that he doesn't care about
- 1:04:09>> and so then he'll sell the others to the
- 1:04:11pigeon shoots.
- 1:04:13>> I care about them from the perspective
- 1:04:14of their poop is highly poisonous and
- 1:04:17that is a fascinating idea structure to
- 1:04:20me. The idea of having like really
- 1:04:21really dangerous poop is so funny.
- 1:04:23>> It is really funny and it funny to be
- 1:04:25all over the
- 1:04:26>> being. Sorry. I um Okay, so you got this
- 1:04:28new
- 1:04:30>> this new personal channel. Yeah.
- 1:04:31>> And then you've got your morning brew.
- 1:04:33And then you've got your secret sort of
- 1:04:35ones that you can't do. And would you
- 1:04:37ever have like maybe four channels?
- 1:04:39You've got Morning Brew,
- 1:04:41>> you've got your personal one,
- 1:04:43>> you've got uh maybe you start getting
- 1:04:45involved with like Greenpeace and Greta
- 1:04:47Thunberg or something and start doing
- 1:04:48like uh
- 1:04:49>> like the more high-risk ones,
- 1:04:52>> right? Someone someone who wants to take
- 1:04:53risks, let me do something dangerous and
- 1:04:55fund it.
- 1:04:56>> Yeah.
- 1:04:57>> Going into the cobalt mine, right? And
- 1:04:59then um and then the fourth one is more
- 1:05:01like uh you I don't know however like
- 1:05:04the skyscraper one. I don't know how you
- 1:05:05would get that. Also, can I ask okay
- 1:05:07pulling back from that kind of joke? Why
- 1:05:10is the sweater your personal channel?
- 1:05:12>> Sweater is my personal channel. That's a
- 1:05:14great question. Uh sweater is my
- 1:05:16personal channel because
- 1:05:18whenever I make something at morning
- 1:05:20brew, there has to be nice
- 1:05:22>> yellow.
- 1:05:22>> I like yellow a lot. Yellow is a really
- 1:05:24good color. Yellow is exactly what that
- 1:05:26needs.
- 1:05:26>> Nice. Thank you. Um,
- 1:05:28>> sorry.
- 1:05:30>> No, it's good. Sweater is personal
- 1:05:32channel because anything I make for
- 1:05:33Morning Brew, Morning Brew is a business
- 1:05:35media company. Anything I make for
- 1:05:37Morning Brew has to have a business
- 1:05:38angle. And sometimes I don't want a
- 1:05:40story to have a business angle.
- 1:05:41Sometimes it's nice to just show how
- 1:05:43something is made.
- 1:05:44>> And I don't think that that sweater
- 1:05:46video will have enough of a business
- 1:05:48feeling that you leave with,
- 1:05:50>> right,
- 1:05:51>> to justify it being on the Morning Brew
- 1:05:52channel. Nor do I want to force it to. I
- 1:05:55do think I can come up with a short
- 1:05:57that's businessy enough for Morning
- 1:05:59Brew.
- 1:06:00>> Um, that's just like about cost of labor
- 1:06:03and like work it into like the fashion
- 1:06:05industry that way
- 1:06:07>> and then I can collab. Morning Brew is
- 1:06:09very good about letting me collab post.
- 1:06:11>> So then I could collab post to promote
- 1:06:13the fulllength long form one on my
- 1:06:15YouTube channel.
- 1:06:17>> That's not That's good of them.
- 1:06:18>> Yeah, they're they're very good at that.
- 1:06:20It's our our like chief content officer
- 1:06:22guy who's my boss who like he came up
- 1:06:24through like the BuzzFeed
- 1:06:27um like millennial media companies of it
- 1:06:29all and just watched them like
- 1:06:30constantly bleed talent
- 1:06:32>> and so he's like we're obviously going
- 1:06:34to bleed talent at some point but like I
- 1:06:36can keep them around for longer if I'm
- 1:06:38nice to them and that's what he does
- 1:06:40which is great.
- 1:06:41>> That's smart.
- 1:06:41>> Yeah.
- 1:06:42>> Morning Brew.
- 1:06:44>> Okay. Uh,
- 1:06:46I don't know how much I'm should be
- 1:06:47asking about you versus Morning Brew,
- 1:06:49but I guess how Morning Brew, Morning
- 1:06:51Brew is me. It's both.
- 1:06:53>> So, I I guess like um a lot of the media
- 1:06:55companies I mean that's a great point
- 1:06:56like uh these Buzzfeeds and other
- 1:06:59companies have sort of failed.
- 1:07:01>> Yeah.
- 1:07:01>> So, I'm curious uh what is what is the
- 1:07:05success of what your space is doing and
- 1:07:08like you know what I mean? Because like
- 1:07:09um in in my world, Comedy Central has
- 1:07:12gone out of business.
- 1:07:13>> Yeah. uh and has been sort of replaced
- 1:07:15by a lot of these more algorithm
- 1:07:17oriented ones. Is that is that part of
- 1:07:18the idea or what's the
- 1:07:20>> I think that's part of it. I think it's
- 1:07:22like it's doing a very similar model
- 1:07:24that's been done. Like I don't think
- 1:07:25we're doing anything that's that
- 1:07:27different from what like Buzzfeed ever
- 1:07:28did. I will say Morning Group is good at
- 1:07:32not doing the like go super general
- 1:07:35thing. like they are strictly staying
- 1:07:38focused that like we are not just going
- 1:07:41to make like funny videos about whatever
- 1:07:43like it is business media.
- 1:07:45>> So like not going like completely
- 1:07:47general I think is a good call. Um a lot
- 1:07:50of the morning brew business is stuff
- 1:07:52you've never heard of that's like for
- 1:07:55specific industries. So we have like
- 1:07:58newsletters for like the retail
- 1:08:00industry, for healthcare, for finance,
- 1:08:03for tech, for marketing. um like all
- 1:08:07these really specific newsletters um
- 1:08:10that like are a very important part of
- 1:08:12the business that are like not exciting
- 1:08:14and people don't know about unless they
- 1:08:17work in those industries but are like a
- 1:08:20very important part of it and like an
- 1:08:21example of them not being general which
- 1:08:23is like a super boring answer. The more
- 1:08:25exciting version of that answer is like
- 1:08:27what they're doing right is like keeping
- 1:08:29me happy and like
- 1:08:30>> nice
- 1:08:31>> not making me want to leave because like
- 1:08:34they are not only like letting me do
- 1:08:37stuff outside of Morning Brew, but they
- 1:08:39like encourage it and support it and
- 1:08:41will like crossost to promote it.
- 1:08:43>> That's nice.
- 1:08:44>> Um whereas like if they weren't letting
- 1:08:46me do that, I feel like I would have
- 1:08:47left already because I don't want to
- 1:08:48just do Morning Brew. So if I had to
- 1:08:50choose between just Morning Brew and
- 1:08:51just something else, I would leave. But
- 1:08:53like I can do both.
- 1:08:54>> And what's And what's next for you? What
- 1:08:55are you trying to What What are you
- 1:08:57What's the goal here?
- 1:08:58>> My contract is up April of 2027. And I
- 1:09:01would like to go independent then.
- 1:09:03That's like what I told them. And that's
- 1:09:04I think how I still feel about it. Um at
- 1:09:08some point I just like I don't love the
- 1:09:11the business angle to every story I
- 1:09:14make. Like I'm just kind of tired of
- 1:09:16that angle and that like series of like
- 1:09:19trying jobs. I still think jobs are like
- 1:09:20a very interesting way to explore the
- 1:09:22world. Everyone has a job. Um except for
- 1:09:25like really lucky people.
- 1:09:30But yeah, like at some point I would
- 1:09:32just like I think the root of all of my
- 1:09:34videos are that they're like human
- 1:09:36interest stories that right now I'm like
- 1:09:38shoehorning a business angle into. And
- 1:09:40so one day if I could just make
- 1:09:42interesting stories about interesting
- 1:09:44people on my own YouTube channel or like
- 1:09:46some other form of show, I think that
- 1:09:48that would be fun. like a travel show
- 1:09:50type thing or something like
- 1:09:52>> Yeah.
- 1:09:53>> No. Yeah. Cool.
- 1:09:55>> It's fun.
- 1:09:56>> Hell yeah. No, it's great. Yeah. I mean,
- 1:09:59you summed it up well with the like the
- 1:10:01Cleo Rose plus Conan travel thing.
- 1:10:05>> Conan Conan's had a whole long career of
- 1:10:06just doing whatever
- 1:10:09thing.
- 1:10:09>> It's worked out really well for him.
- 1:10:10Yeah. Like, how do you do that?
- 1:10:12>> You're the new You're the new Conan.
- 1:10:13>> People are saying just because of how
- 1:10:15tall I am. People don't know this, but
- 1:10:17I'm 11 feet tall.
- 1:10:21One of my co-workers and I, meowitz at
- 1:10:24Morning Brew, she rocks. Um, she and I
- 1:10:26were talking about starting a bit where
- 1:10:29we do like a forced perspective in every
- 1:10:31video that makes me look super super
- 1:10:32super tall.
- 1:10:33>> Just everybody at one point,
- 1:10:34>> every video just like switch over to me
- 1:10:36looking so tall.
- 1:10:38>> I like that.
- 1:10:40>> Um,
- 1:10:41>> I only recently decided to start making
- 1:10:42this an arts and crafts uh podcast, by
- 1:10:44the way. This is like maybe like
- 1:10:45>> Oh,
- 1:10:46>> maybe like um I don't know, maybe like
- 1:10:48uh 15 episodes or so. I did it one I did
- 1:10:51it like in one episode and I was like,
- 1:10:52"Wait,
- 1:10:53>> that should obviously be the premise."
- 1:10:55>> Well, it's so much fun and it's like
- 1:10:58>> you're like locked in.
- 1:10:59>> Yeah. Well, and this is why like every
- 1:11:01child therapist is like, "Why don't we
- 1:11:02draw a picture while we talk?" It's like
- 1:11:04now I'm just talking. I don't know what
- 1:11:06I'm saying.
- 1:11:06>> That's right. I'm like I'm like not
- 1:11:08looking at you.
- 1:11:08>> Oh, yeah. No, I haven't looked at you at
- 1:11:10all. I actually it honestly it actually
- 1:11:12feels weird to look at you. I'm like
- 1:11:15whoa
- 1:11:15>> when you're knitting because I'm kind of
- 1:11:17watching you and I'm like all right I'm
- 1:11:19going to go back to embroidering now
- 1:11:20because instead I'm just like
- 1:11:22>> right
- 1:11:23>> observing you
- 1:11:26>> um that
- 1:11:28>> knitting knitting circle
- 1:11:29>> knitting circle that should be the new
- 1:11:31name of the pod.
- 1:11:32>> Yeah circle
- 1:11:33>> it's bugghive is the
- 1:11:34>> bughive is good too. I just did a
- 1:11:35stopotion animation um intro and your
- 1:11:38episode's gonna be the first one that I
- 1:11:40put it on.
- 1:11:40>> Holy [ __ ] that's really exciting. I'm
- 1:11:43learning After Effects so I can do
- 1:11:44stopotion stuff.
- 1:11:45>> Oh, I did it in Premiere by Cuz
- 1:11:50>> that is easier
- 1:11:51>> with stop motion so it didn't be
- 1:11:52>> I guess that's true.
- 1:11:53>> Didn't need to be um
- 1:11:54>> no effects.
- 1:11:55>> Yeah. Yeah. It's literally just like
- 1:11:56photo photo. Yeah,
- 1:11:58>> that rocks.
- 1:11:59>> Um
- 1:12:00>> I'll show it to you.
- 1:12:01>> Please. Um, yeah, I decided to learn
- 1:12:04After Effects. That's the other thing
- 1:12:05Morning Brew is really great about. They
- 1:12:07will pay for me to take whatever class I
- 1:12:09ask to take. They're paying for my After
- 1:12:11Effects class. They paid for me to take
- 1:12:12two rounds of sketchwriting classes at
- 1:12:14UCB. Like, they are also really good.
- 1:12:16Like, I recommend any any like comic.
- 1:12:19Obviously, it's not like
- 1:12:22what you think of when you pictured, you
- 1:12:24know, being a comedy writer, but it's
- 1:12:26like we have a lot of people at Morning
- 1:12:27Brew whose like full-time job is writing
- 1:12:29sketches, right? I know a lot. sketch is
- 1:12:31about business news, but like
- 1:12:33>> that is still a fun job and so like I I
- 1:12:35I recommend it to a lot of people and
- 1:12:37it's also a way to like I have built
- 1:12:39this audience completely by working at
- 1:12:40Morning Brew.
- 1:12:41>> Yeah.
- 1:12:42>> Like that's great.
- 1:12:42>> Was Do you know if Dan Tum's the good
- 1:12:44work was that a separate show that he
- 1:12:46did and then like got folded into
- 1:12:47>> Good work was something that he started
- 1:12:48at Morning Brew.
- 1:12:49>> Oh, really? Okay.
- 1:12:50>> Yeah.
- 1:12:50>> Interesting.
- 1:12:51>> Um yeah, they basically were just like,
- 1:12:53"Hey Dan, your stuff has a really
- 1:12:55specific vibe and feel and what if it
- 1:12:57was like its own show here? Let's make a
- 1:13:00name for it. And then they made it its
- 1:13:02own show.
- 1:13:02>> Cool.
- 1:13:03>> Yeah.
- 1:13:05>> Um, it's like three years old now. It's
- 1:13:06crazy.
- 1:13:06>> Also, I won't keep you forever. Maybe
- 1:13:08we'll go to I don't know. I don't know
- 1:13:10how long you would like to go for.
- 1:13:12>> How about till I finish like this?
- 1:13:14>> Sure. Yeah.
- 1:13:15>> Okay, perfect. It's like that's my next
- 1:13:18really good stopping point. That's
- 1:13:19actually a perfect stopping point
- 1:13:20because I'll have finished this panel.
- 1:13:22>> Oh, nice.
- 1:13:22>> It's like a really nice clean ending.
- 1:13:25>> I'll have you reveal. We've kind of been
- 1:13:27seeing you do it, but I'll have you show
- 1:13:29it to the camera and stuff.
- 1:13:30>> I started filling in the I've got these
- 1:13:32holes here. Not the holes, but the um
- 1:13:33>> Yeah.
- 1:13:34>> So, I decided to just make those yellow
- 1:13:35entirely.
- 1:13:36>> I like that.
- 1:13:36>> And then maybe I'll do
- 1:13:38>> still got to do a body in the middle,
- 1:13:40>> right?
- 1:13:40>> I'm not going to finish this guy this
- 1:13:41time.
- 1:13:42>> Gonna have to come back for the next
- 1:13:44episode.
- 1:13:45>> Yeah.
- 1:13:45>> That's how you keep them coming back.
- 1:13:46It's a neverending craft project. I've
- 1:13:48honestly this has been like a great way
- 1:13:50to like I'll have people on and I'm like
- 1:13:52all right I'm gonna work on the I'm like
- 1:13:55I'm gonna start just using it as a
- 1:13:56chance to use the to do work on the
- 1:13:58thing I've been working on. You know
- 1:13:59what I mean?
- 1:14:00>> Right.
- 1:14:00>> Like
- 1:14:01>> no it's so fun. I always
- 1:14:02>> Sure. Sure you're here but I'm sorry
- 1:14:03what
- 1:14:06>> um it's nice. I always have to have time
- 1:14:08set aside to craft or else I kind of
- 1:14:10just like forget to do it.
- 1:14:11>> So my friends are like can you teach me
- 1:14:12how to do this? I'm like yes please come
- 1:14:14to my house and I will craft and I will
- 1:14:15like lightly guide you through that. But
- 1:14:17like mostly it'll just be time that I am
- 1:14:19forced to set aside for crafting.
- 1:14:21>> Now here's a silly question. Are you
- 1:14:22type A or or type would you consider
- 1:14:24yourself type A?
- 1:14:25>> Um it's it's a good question actually
- 1:14:28because I don't know. I would say I'm
- 1:14:29not. I would say I'm pretty type B. I'm
- 1:14:31type B but like the busiest type B
- 1:14:35person.
- 1:14:35>> Top five reasons I'm type B in an
- 1:14:37organized list.
- 1:14:40>> You're the busiest type B.
- 1:14:41>> I'm the busiest type B. I think a lot of
- 1:14:43type B people are like I can't keep a
- 1:14:45schedule. And it's like no. The only
- 1:14:46thing I keep is the schedule.
- 1:14:48>> Everything else falls apart around the
- 1:14:49schedule.
- 1:14:50>> Um,
- 1:14:50>> I was talking to somebody else about
- 1:14:52this. Um, where I I'm also very I'm very
- 1:14:56type A. Um, but I I'm very type A in the
- 1:15:01planning of it.
- 1:15:02>> So, like my like on stage I'm talking
- 1:15:04about like, you know, uh, harvesting
- 1:15:06clone organs or whatever, which I which
- 1:15:08I feel which I feel is a type B energy.
- 1:15:10Y
- 1:15:11>> um, but I've got that like in like a
- 1:15:13color-coded spreadsheet. Yeah. Do you
- 1:15:15know what I mean? And so there's like
- 1:15:17type A mechanisms in place to be type B.
- 1:15:19Yes. Do you're similar.
- 1:15:21>> Yeah. Right. That you have to have the
- 1:15:22things that allow you to um keep the
- 1:15:27chaos in the rest of your life. The the
- 1:15:29few things that hold you back that keep
- 1:15:31it all just organized enough. I really
- 1:15:33do love planning. That is one thing that
- 1:15:36I love. I live my life like almost
- 1:15:38entirely in the future. Um, and I didn't
- 1:15:40realize like the degree to which I do
- 1:15:42that until I went back and I was like
- 1:15:44home in the town I went to high school
- 1:15:46in and I ran into my therapist from high
- 1:15:48school. And I was like, whoa, hey, how
- 1:15:51are you? And I was like almost graduated
- 1:15:52with college at this point. And she was
- 1:15:56like, I'm great. How are you? And she
- 1:15:57goes, did you ever end up? And then she
- 1:15:59rattled off all the things I had done in
- 1:16:01the last four years that I forgot I had
- 1:16:03like planned since I was in high school
- 1:16:06that like I knew that's what I was going
- 1:16:08to be doing like throughout college. And
- 1:16:10like I did a bunch of like studying
- 1:16:12abroad in college. I like went to
- 1:16:13college in Spain and I like chose this
- 1:16:15program because you can like do two
- 1:16:17years in Spain and then like two years
- 1:16:19abroad from Spain. And so I did like
- 1:16:21three different study abroad semesters
- 1:16:22which was super fun and it was like the
- 1:16:24price of community college in the US. It
- 1:16:26was like a huge hack.
- 1:16:26>> Damn.
- 1:16:27>> Um it was awesome. And so I forgot that
- 1:16:30I had literally planned all of that from
- 1:16:32when I was in high school. And I was
- 1:16:34like, "Oh, I really do live my life in
- 1:16:35the future." Like, she hasn't seen me in
- 1:16:37like five years and she knows everything
- 1:16:39that I've been up to.
- 1:16:40>> Because you told her
- 1:16:41>> because I told her and I knew that that
- 1:16:43was what I was going to do. I do it less
- 1:16:44now because like I don't know, my life
- 1:16:46is becoming less plannable, but like I
- 1:16:48do still love planning things and living
- 1:16:52enjoying like thinking about what it's
- 1:16:54going to be like. And then when I'm
- 1:16:55there, I'm like, "Okay, yeah, fine. I
- 1:16:56already know what this was going to I
- 1:16:58already did this in my head before.
- 1:16:59>> Wow. Damn.
- 1:17:01What What do people not know about you?
- 1:17:04And by people, I also mean me, uh, from
- 1:17:06the videos. Like, what would people not
- 1:17:08guess about you?
- 1:17:09>> Um, I think that's a fun thing about the
- 1:17:11content I make. I have a lot of friends
- 1:17:12who are like lifestyle influencers, and
- 1:17:14I'm like, that is a nightmare because
- 1:17:16people really, really, really know
- 1:17:17everything about you. People don't know
- 1:17:19anything about me that I haven't chosen
- 1:17:20to tell them, which is so nice.
- 1:17:23>> Um,
- 1:17:24>> are you in the editing process?
- 1:17:25>> Yeah.
- 1:17:26>> Yeah. Um, yeah, I like
- 1:17:28>> we kind of made
- 1:17:29>> we dictate the edit, but I don't do like
- 1:17:32the leg work of the edit. So, I work
- 1:17:33with an editor and we go, "Okay, I think
- 1:17:35this section should go like this. It
- 1:17:37should include these beats."
- 1:17:38>> And then they sit there in Premiere and
- 1:17:40like actually spend the hours like
- 1:17:42>> accomplishing that.
- 1:17:43>> Yeah,
- 1:17:43>> that makes sense. We found a good eye
- 1:17:45contact rhythm right at the end.
- 1:17:46>> I know. That was really good.
- 1:17:47>> I was like, "Oh, wait. We
- 1:17:51not to point it out, but I was like,
- 1:17:52"Oh, we should have been doing this."
- 1:17:53>> It was It was worth It was worth
- 1:17:54pointing out. Um, okay. I avoided the
- 1:17:57question of of what don't people know
- 1:18:00about me?
- 1:18:00>> Oh,
- 1:18:01>> successfully avoided that question. Um,
- 1:18:04what don't people know about me? I
- 1:18:06really love
- 1:18:09um
- 1:18:10>> Yeah. Yeah. Your answer was uh Well,
- 1:18:12they don't.
- 1:18:13>> Well, they don't. That's such a good
- 1:18:15point. They don't.
- 1:18:17>> Um,
- 1:18:21they don't know. I That was a crazy
- 1:18:24noise I just made.
- 1:18:26Uh, I have this yoga class that I go to
- 1:18:28like every single Sunday night that is
- 1:18:30like the only constant in my life and
- 1:18:33the only like night of my week that I
- 1:18:35keep completely free only for that.
- 1:18:37>> Um, and that is like a lot of what
- 1:18:39allows I would say like the rest of my
- 1:18:41life to function the way that it does.
- 1:18:43It's like the perfect Sunday reset. I
- 1:18:45get it's 90 minutes of yoga and it's
- 1:18:47like decently hard yoga. Um, and it's
- 1:18:50also like decently spiritual yoga in a
- 1:18:52way that I like as like a as a Sunday
- 1:18:54reset. And I also think it's [ __ ] up
- 1:18:55if yoga isn't spiritual because it's
- 1:18:57like that's not what yoga is.
- 1:18:59>> Um core power is not yoga. Like that's
- 1:19:03not when you just act like it's like a
- 1:19:04workout. It's not that's not what it is.
- 1:19:07>> There has to be like a meditation
- 1:19:08mindfulness bit. Anywh who, I do 90
- 1:19:11minutes of yoga and then I go to um the
- 1:19:14same dumpling restaurant every Sunday
- 1:19:15night and I get soup dumplings.
- 1:19:16>> Which one? Don't Hey, be normal about
- 1:19:19that.
- 1:19:19>> Be normal about that though. Um
- 1:19:24>> um no, it's great. I I love my
- 1:19:25dumplings. Um
- 1:19:26>> I've got my I've got my address in a
- 1:19:28specific place online uh cuz I like have
- 1:19:31to for legal reasons, but below it I
- 1:19:33write Yeah. But below I'll tell you
- 1:19:35after, but below it I write be normal
- 1:19:36about this.
- 1:19:37>> Be normal about this.
- 1:19:38>> Um that Yeah, I have started or I got
- 1:19:42Morning Brew to get me um delete me.
- 1:19:46>> Um
- 1:19:47>> what's that?
- 1:19:47>> It takes all your personal information
- 1:19:49offline.
- 1:19:50your phone number and your email and
- 1:19:52like whatever stuff like you know when
- 1:19:53you like
- 1:19:54>> look someone up it'll be like those
- 1:19:56websites that are like people search
- 1:19:58sites that's like possible addresses,
- 1:19:59possible phone numbers, possible emails
- 1:20:01for this person.
- 1:20:02>> Um
- 1:20:03>> I've been getting a lot of spam and uh
- 1:20:05they'll be like, "Oh, sorry." Like it's
- 1:20:08sorry it's been a while and then I'll
- 1:20:09and then I type back, hey, what's my
- 1:20:10name? And they'll go, "Is this not Amy?"
- 1:20:13And I'm like, "Got it." Yeah.
- 1:20:14>> Yeah. Got it.
- 1:20:14>> Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:20:15>> Um
- 1:20:16>> I go, "No, it's not Amy. Here's my
- 1:20:17actual name and number." No, it's not.
- 1:20:19Oh my god, you're so confused. Let me
- 1:20:20help you find Amy.
- 1:20:22>> Oh, here's an interesting thing. I heard
- 1:20:26uh Nigerian um genuine businesses that
- 1:20:31are online have like a really hard time
- 1:20:33because of the association with phone
- 1:20:35scam culture.
- 1:20:37>> That would that make a lot of sense.
- 1:20:39>> I'm tell I'm like look at I'm like
- 1:20:41looking into that trying to I'm like oh
- 1:20:43wait I've got a chance now to tell you
- 1:20:44to do a video if I if I want one. Um,
- 1:20:47>> not that that's how that works.
- 1:20:48>> I have thought about doing like a call
- 1:20:50center. Um, and then especially like a
- 1:20:54scam. The thing about a scam is that me
- 1:20:57being like seeing if I can do a scam and
- 1:21:00filming that is it's like well am I
- 1:21:03breaking a law and filming it?
- 1:21:06>> That's always the concern is like I
- 1:21:07shouldn't do that. I shouldn't break
- 1:21:10laws and film myself doing that.
- 1:21:11>> Yeah. No, totally. which is so tough
- 1:21:14because I want to really bad.
- 1:21:19>> I guess that is the thing of like the um
- 1:21:21the expose of like the okay maybe
- 1:21:24factory farming
- 1:21:26um people don't quite know the full
- 1:21:29extent of it or how bad it is cuz the
- 1:21:32like it's illegal or they won't allow
- 1:21:35access.
- 1:21:36>> Yeah.
- 1:21:36>> So like
- 1:21:38>> I don't know.
- 1:21:39>> Sometimes I'm like I should just go
- 1:21:41undercover.
- 1:21:41>> Yeah. There was that guy at Vice who did
- 1:21:43great videos where he would like go work
- 1:21:44undercover in the Amazon warehouse.
- 1:21:46>> I was able to do it with um
- 1:21:49uh Uber Eats or Door Dash.
- 1:21:50>> Oh, really?
- 1:21:51>> Um yeah, I did a video where I like just
- 1:21:54signed up for Door Dash. Um and like
- 1:21:56that is the one job where like I could
- 1:21:58do the job because anyone can sign up to
- 1:22:01do Door Dash.
- 1:22:02>> Um and they like didn't really, you
- 1:22:04know, know what I was up to and then I
- 1:22:06like reach out for comment at the end.
- 1:22:07But
- 1:22:08>> what's your favorite video that I don't
- 1:22:10know I don't if you think of them that
- 1:22:12way or which or also maybe if you don't
- 1:22:14want to do favorite
- 1:22:16>> uh because I know people hate doing that
- 1:22:19but which one do you think uh needs more
- 1:22:23love?
- 1:22:24>> Uh
- 1:22:24>> which one would you like people to watch
- 1:22:25more?
- 1:22:26>> I do like the I think the hot dog one
- 1:22:29and the Door Dash one were like which
- 1:22:31have both done incredibly well were my
- 1:22:34most like hard-hitting journalism videos
- 1:22:37that I've ever done. Um,
- 1:22:39>> the commissary kitchen's idea. I never
- 1:22:41heard of that before. That's cool.
- 1:22:42>> Um,
- 1:22:43>> food carts are all put into like a uh
- 1:22:46>> where it's where they sleep at night.
- 1:22:48>> That's where they sleep at night.
- 1:22:49>> Yes.
- 1:22:49>> We see people driving away with a food
- 1:22:50cart at night. They're actually taking
- 1:22:52it to like a big place,
- 1:22:53>> a big warehouse that fills them back up
- 1:22:55with all that food. That's why they all
- 1:22:56sell that exact same muffin. Wow. The
- 1:23:00very last
- 1:23:00>> app. That's really good.
- 1:23:02>> I thank you very much. I'm very happy.
- 1:23:03>> You should not to add to your project
- 1:23:05and not to tell you how your project
- 1:23:06should go. You should add a um
- 1:23:11caterpillar and like a chrysalis or a
- 1:23:13caterpillar or a crystis on the other
- 1:23:14side.
- 1:23:15>> That's great.
- 1:23:16>> And then it's like the hat can reverse.
- 1:23:17>> Maybe can grow.
- 1:23:19>> Oh, on the inside or you talking about
- 1:23:21the
- 1:23:21>> I was thinking on the back side of the
- 1:23:23hat so it could like rotate.
- 1:23:24>> Maybe we'll do Yeah. On the three on a
- 1:23:27three axis. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Totally.
- 1:23:29>> Did you just Did you just finish?
- 1:23:31>> I did. Nice.
- 1:23:31>> Can I have scissors?
- 1:23:33>> Yes. There you go. Score.
- 1:23:34>> Sorry if I just poked it. I normally
- 1:23:37carry around and I might still have
- 1:23:39them.
- 1:23:40>> Um,
- 1:23:41>> I have this like one pair of nail
- 1:23:44clippers that I've never used as nail
- 1:23:46clippers that are my like to-go crafting
- 1:23:48scissors
- 1:23:49>> so I don't have to have scissors in my
- 1:23:51bag.
- 1:23:51>> I got to get crafting scissors. These
- 1:23:52ones are kind of [ __ ] up.
- 1:23:54>> Okay. Reveal.
- 1:23:56>> Reveal.
- 1:23:58>> That's it.
- 1:23:59>> That's how you just wear it like that.
- 1:24:01It's just one.
- 1:24:01>> You just wear it like that.
- 1:24:02>> It's just one side of your body.
- 1:24:04>> It's like a scarf, but it's too short.
- 1:24:06Do you need duct tape?
- 1:24:07>> Yeah. Um, I want to show you there's So,
- 1:24:10this is the back panel. So, now these
- 1:24:11will connect. But, um, I want to show
- 1:24:14>> Oh, [ __ ] Okay.
- 1:24:14>> The best part of knitting is the
- 1:24:17accessories. This little gizmo that I
- 1:24:20don't really need for this pattern is a
- 1:24:21stitch counter. And it's a cool ass ring
- 1:24:25where you just like it can like
- 1:24:27>> it can tell it can tell your finger
- 1:24:28movement of like
- 1:24:29>> No, you have to click it, but it just
- 1:24:31stays on your finger so that it's like
- 1:24:32convenient for you to touch. And then
- 1:24:34you just like click it every time you
- 1:24:35finish a row so that you don't lose
- 1:24:37count because that's like the hardest
- 1:24:39part of knitting is being like what row
- 1:24:40am I on.
- 1:24:41>> This pattern is really easy though since
- 1:24:43it's stripes cuz it's just really easy
- 1:24:45to count it back up, right?
- 1:24:46>> But when they're all the same color,
- 1:24:48it's like a nightmare to count it back
- 1:24:49up.
- 1:24:49>> Oh [ __ ]
- 1:24:50>> So that is super useful. But it also
- 1:24:52just looks so cool to have a little
- 1:24:53gizmo.
- 1:24:54>> Yeah, absolutely. Was that Was that one
- 1:24:56of those things of like you did it all
- 1:24:57one color and you were like this sucks
- 1:25:00like count? I didn't intentionally do
- 1:25:02this, but it is really nice and it is
- 1:25:05going to suck when I'm doing something
- 1:25:06one color again.
- 1:25:07>> What? What does it save? Okay. Is that
- 1:25:09currently on a number? And like you're
- 1:25:10going to put this away for a while. Come
- 1:25:12back to in a few days. You pull that
- 1:25:13gizmo back out. Still in the same number
- 1:25:15>> now because the I don't think the gizmo
- 1:25:17would stay that long. You would have to
- 1:25:18write it down somewhere else.
- 1:25:19>> Oh, gotcha.
- 1:25:20>> Um the gizmo would reset. I think the
- 1:25:22gizmo these pieces are completely done.
- 1:25:25So I don't need to know what number
- 1:25:26these are. Like these are done now. And
- 1:25:28then so now I have to make one more of
- 1:25:30this piece that's like the reverse for
- 1:25:33the left side.
- 1:25:35>> And then I have to make the sleeves.
- 1:25:37>> Okay. And then buttons or something or
- 1:25:39>> Yeah. And then I do buttons. So I have
- 1:25:40to go pick out my buttons.
- 1:25:42>> And then the other side is where I'll
- 1:25:43make the button holes.
- 1:25:44>> Where do you the button store?
- 1:25:46>> Yeah, the button store.
- 1:25:48>> Oh, you've got to go to the button
- 1:25:50store. There are like several button
- 1:25:52stores in the garment district
- 1:25:53>> for real.
- 1:25:53>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Some are like
- 1:25:54literally called button stores and then
- 1:25:56some are called like trimmings like MJ
- 1:25:57trimmings.
- 1:25:59>> Um will also have like zippers and like
- 1:26:01you know other trimmings. But um
- 1:26:04>> will this be part of the video of the
- 1:26:07>> No, this is an unrelated sweater. This
- 1:26:09is a separate sweater.
- 1:26:10>> Oh, that's right.
- 1:26:10>> This is separate sweater project. Sorry.
- 1:26:12>> That other video I just haven't even ed
- 1:26:14that one is that one is like pinker and
- 1:26:16like
- 1:26:16>> Yeah, that one is pink and it just has
- 1:26:17like one big stripe across the middle
- 1:26:19>> and it's made out of wool.
- 1:26:21>> And it's made out of wool. This is also
- 1:26:22wool. And this wool is also
- 1:26:25I haven't loved it. Can you tell how
- 1:26:27much grass is in that?
- 1:26:29>> What? Wait, did you get that?
- 1:26:31>> It's from like a smaller wool brand.
- 1:26:34>> Can I smell this?
- 1:26:35>> Yeah, this doesn't really smell like
- 1:26:37sheep in a farm. The wool that I made
- 1:26:38for myself really, really, really smells
- 1:26:41like a sheep.
- 1:26:41>> This didn't really smell like This
- 1:26:42didn't smell like that much. I imagined
- 1:26:44it looked like I was smelling a lot just
- 1:26:45now, but it was more
- 1:26:46>> But can you see the grass in it? like
- 1:26:48they didn't get all the pieces of grass
- 1:26:49out of it
- 1:26:50>> and it's like that sheep was like
- 1:26:51rolling around in the grass
- 1:26:53>> there straight up
- 1:26:54>> there's straight up grass in it
- 1:26:55>> like kind of like bits of grass
- 1:26:58>> they can't
- 1:26:59>> I want to hear the mic because they
- 1:27:00can't hear me but straight up some like
- 1:27:02small bits of grass
- 1:27:04>> grass in there um
- 1:27:06>> because the sheep was
- 1:27:07>> because the sheep was in the grass and
- 1:27:09then they just like didn't get it all
- 1:27:10out.
- 1:27:10>> That's crazy.
- 1:27:11>> I know.
- 1:27:11>> Oh my god.
- 1:27:12>> Um No, it's fun to remember that like
- 1:27:14>> And you spun that. Sorry.
- 1:27:15>> I didn't spin this. No, you said
- 1:27:17>> no. I bought this from a brand which I'm
- 1:27:19kind of annoyed with them that they left
- 1:27:20so much grass in it cuz it's like you're
- 1:27:22professionals
- 1:27:23>> and you know what you're doing cuz you
- 1:27:24cuz you've done it now and you're you
- 1:27:25know how this mine didn't even have this
- 1:27:28much grass
- 1:27:29>> and I'm not a professional operation
- 1:27:31that's selling this.
- 1:27:31>> So you think they didn't care.
- 1:27:33>> They didn't care enough.
- 1:27:34>> It's not that they didn't care enough. I
- 1:27:35like know the brand. They're just like a
- 1:27:37small farm. But
- 1:27:39>> um I don't appreciate how much grass is
- 1:27:41left in it. It's going to be like itchy.
- 1:27:43Like now some of it is like knit into
- 1:27:44the sweater forever.
- 1:27:46Well, that'll come out with washing or
- 1:27:48No,
- 1:27:49>> you can't wash this. You can't
- 1:27:50>> You can't wash hand knit sweaters.
- 1:27:51>> Wait, what?
- 1:27:52>> You shouldn't wash any sweaters.
- 1:27:53>> You should like hand wash sweaters.
- 1:27:56>> It can turn into felt. That's what felt
- 1:27:58is like. Um
- 1:27:59>> I've learned that recently cuz I met a
- 1:28:00lady at the airport and she was she was
- 1:28:02knitting
- 1:28:04>> like shoes. Yeah.
- 1:28:05>> And I was like I was like I was like
- 1:28:06what are you talking about? And she's
- 1:28:08like no I'm going to
- 1:28:09>> felt them.
- 1:28:09>> Yeah. I'm going to put it in in heat and
- 1:28:11it will solidify.
- 1:28:13>> Yeah. Like you know when you
- 1:28:14accidentally like people will be like a
- 1:28:15my sweater it's all shrunken down. Yeah
- 1:28:17that's felting.
- 1:28:18>> It turned into felt
- 1:28:19>> and it's like that happens with water
- 1:28:21and heat and agitation to wool. But so
- 1:28:24you really shouldn't machine wash any
- 1:28:26sweaters.
- 1:28:27>> Wool sweaters specifically or
- 1:28:28>> wool sweaters.
- 1:28:29>> I'm like machine washing this.
- 1:28:31>> Well that's a sweatshirt that's not like
- 1:28:32knit like this is like a knit sweater.
- 1:28:35>> Gotcha. Okay.
- 1:28:35>> Yeah.
- 1:28:36>> Um but yeah any like actual knit
- 1:28:39sweaters you should be handashing. They
- 1:28:41have a special kind of soap called wool
- 1:28:43soap that doesn't need to be rinsed out.
- 1:28:45So, you just
- 1:28:46>> like dunk it in and then you don't have
- 1:28:48to Well, it's like a very light soap.
- 1:28:52>> It's soap. How is that gross?
- 1:28:56>> But it's not getting rinsed off. I feel
- 1:28:58like I feel like I'd be I feel like I'd
- 1:29:00feel weird if I had a bunch of soap.
- 1:29:01>> Well, it like it like you let it soak
- 1:29:04and then I I sometimes do like one
- 1:29:06rinse.
- 1:29:06>> So, it does So, it does
- 1:29:07>> you put it in the soapy water and let it
- 1:29:10sit.
- 1:29:10>> Okay. Yeah.
- 1:29:11>> Yeah.
- 1:29:11>> You put it in soapy water and then you
- 1:29:13let it sit, but then you don't have to
- 1:29:14like
- 1:29:14>> It's not like dry.
- 1:29:15>> Rinse the soap out. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:29:16>> Gotcha. Gotcha.
- 1:29:17>> Yeah. You just rub a bar of soap all
- 1:29:18over this and then that's it.
- 1:29:19>> That's what I thought. That's what I was
- 1:29:21like, what are you talking about?
- 1:29:23>> Um
- 1:29:25>> Yeah. No,
- 1:29:27>> I'm finishing this guy up. Just get my
- 1:29:30here.
- 1:29:31>> I'm glad I'm glad I undid the part that
- 1:29:33I undid and I switched to the red.
- 1:29:34>> You frogged it.
- 1:29:35>> I'm so much happier with that.
- 1:29:36>> You frogged it.
- 1:29:37>> That looks so much better. You remember
- 1:29:38what the white looked like?
- 1:29:40That would have been a mistake to leave
- 1:29:41the white where the red was like peeking
- 1:29:42through.
- 1:29:43>> Like it looks nicer that it's just solid
- 1:29:45red
- 1:29:45>> and I've got
- 1:29:46>> you can see what I'm talking about.
- 1:29:48>> I do remember kind of. Yeah.
- 1:29:50>> Um I take your word for it more so
- 1:29:52because I'm not fully sure.
- 1:29:55>> Thank you for coming on.
- 1:29:56>> Oh my god. Thank you for having me.
- 1:29:58Craft.
- 1:29:59>> It's like a Yeah, you're an iconic guest
- 1:30:02as Zway would say.
- 1:30:05>> That's awesome.
- 1:30:07I I don't have like a catchphrase to
- 1:30:09pick up. And that's crafting.
- 1:30:11>> And that's crafting. Um
- 1:30:14>> outro song. She's crafty.
- 1:30:16>> Was it What's that?
- 1:30:17>> She's crafty. She gets around. She's
- 1:30:20crafty.
- 1:30:20>> I don't know that one.
- 1:30:21>> It's not about crafting.
- 1:30:22>> It's the most about this whole time.
- 1:30:24>> I know. I'm like, "Hello."
- 1:30:25>> Hello. Hello.
- 1:30:26>> Now I'm like awkward. I'm like, "Can't
- 1:30:27>> Well, you've had you've had the beanie
- 1:30:28on the whole time. I'm put mine on for
- 1:30:29the end."
- 1:30:30>> Yeah. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah.
- 1:30:30>> This is what This is beanie reveal.
- 1:30:33>> Beanie reveal. It still has some string
- 1:30:36in it. Okay, fine. It's okay. That's all
- 1:30:37right.
- 1:30:40>> Wow,
- 1:30:42that's really good.
- 1:30:43>> Thank you.
- 1:30:44>> I really love that.
- 1:30:44>> I appreciate that.
- 1:30:45>> That's really fun.
- 1:30:46>> Get covered up immediately by the
- 1:30:48>> Have you ever done not to level up your
- 1:30:49process here? Beaded embroidery.
- 1:30:52>> No, I didn't just learn about that
- 1:30:54though. I didn't know you could do that.
- 1:30:56You can like you put a bead on.
- 1:30:57>> You put a bead on as like before you you
- 1:30:59stitch it up and then you put the bead
- 1:31:00and then you stitch it back down.
- 1:31:02>> Right. I put like the letter I could
- 1:31:03I've got um I have the I have the beads.
- 1:31:06>> You're supposed to use little tiny
- 1:31:07beads, but yeah, you could do those.
- 1:31:08>> Okay.
- 1:31:08>> They would just be maybe a little large.
- 1:31:11>> Sure. Well, and I guess I'll Google it.
- 1:31:14>> You know, you have Pinterest.
- 1:31:16>> I'm on I'm on YouTube and I'm looking at
- 1:31:18different embroidery.
- 1:31:19>> Yeah, I was going to say Pinterest, but
- 1:31:20you got to learn from your form.
- 1:31:22>> That's right.
- 1:31:22>> People have gone before you and figured
- 1:31:23this out. I started quilting this summer
- 1:31:25and I went home to my grandma's house.
- 1:31:27Not to do another craft reveal now. I
- 1:31:30started quilting and I went home to my
- 1:31:31grandma's house and I was like working
- 1:31:33on my stuff and she was like, "Oh,
- 1:31:35you're doing all of this the slowest,
- 1:31:37hardest way possible." And
- 1:31:38>> right, old women know stuff about crafts
- 1:31:41that they figured out over decades that
- 1:31:43I should learn from.
- 1:31:44>> Yes.
- 1:31:45>> Yes. So true.
- 1:31:47>> I should also do that.
- 1:31:48>> Yeah.
- 1:31:48>> Thank Thanks for coming on. you I can't
- 1:31:50believe you
- 1:31:52>> have the time to do everything that
- 1:31:56you're doing as well as crafting, etc.,
- 1:31:59etc. Keep doing what you're doing. I'm
- 1:32:01excited to see more of the videos.
- 1:32:04>> Thank you so much. Rock and roll.
- 1:32:07>> That's good. And
- 1:32:08>> that's crafting.
- 1:32:09>> And that's crafting.
