- 0:00Ladies and gentlemen, welcome to the Three O Tape, where we talk
- 0:04all things Major League Baseball.
- 0:06Here's Kyle Corwin and Nate Reyes.
- 0:10It all starts right now. Welcome back to the Three I Take
- 0:16presented by Sea Kick this episode 486.
- 0:20I'll be your host Kyle Corwin. I'm here with my Co host Nate
- 0:22Reyes and Nate. What a part of people 46, man,
- 0:29we're getting up there. Yeah, I hesitated there because
- 0:32we, I feel like we've been cranking out episodes and I was
- 0:34like, did we already do 46? Noticed a little hesitation?
- 0:39That's cool though. You know, in the 486 episodes
- 0:43we've done, I think I've maybe messed that up once.
- 0:48You're an impressive specimen. I know that, I know that.
- 0:52Very methodical with my notes and I had, I have a system to
- 0:55ensure that that never happens again because that was rough
- 0:58when that happened. The one time I'm like, well,
- 0:59that's nobody really notices, nobody really cares.
- 1:02But that's embarrassing, you know?
- 1:03Yeah, it's not a good look. What are we going to do for 500,
- 1:07man, 500? We got to go all out.
- 1:11We have to, we have, we have to open it up to some people, get
- 1:14some, get some people on here. I like that.
- 1:19I'd like that. Get some guests on here because
- 1:22you know that's what it's all about it's about it's about
- 1:24everybody else. We're just here talking ball.
- 1:26It's, it's the people that we bring on, the people that listen
- 1:29that makes true all of this worth it.
- 1:34Speaking of it being worth it, is it going to be worth it for
- 1:37me at this trivia night that I'm about to go to?
- 1:41If I go and there's a baseball question that I botch, like how?
- 1:49How humiliating would that be if I botched a baseball trivia
- 1:53question? I mean, it's, it's tough to
- 1:56recover. You can't really come back from
- 1:59that. Is there like is there if I
- 2:01can't trust you as a source on my team, if you have an opinion
- 2:06on an another answer in a different subject afterwards,
- 2:10I'm going to hesitate there. So I'm going to be like, how
- 2:13credible of a source is this? If the baseball guy doesn't.
- 2:18Even know baseball, you know what I'm saying?
- 2:20He can't get that way up. OK, baseball guy to baseball
- 2:24guy. Is there a, is there like a year
- 2:30going back where there's like a cut off where it's like sort of
- 2:34understandable maybe if I don't get it, Like I mean if it's like
- 2:38post 2000, it's like OK. Yeah, I feel like, yeah, post
- 2:412000 we should have covered. I struggle with the 80s.
- 2:45I'll be honest, I struggle with 70s and 80s, even 60s.
- 2:52I think there's like a big gap there.
- 2:55We, I think we do well with like the oldies, the older guys when
- 3:00you go 40s, fifties, but like there's like a 20-30 year period
- 3:06where I don't do so well, you know what I mean?
- 3:13Even like the early 90s, I don't think like 9090 to 93.
- 3:18I'm just like. I'm nervous that.
- 3:21Strike that was in there. It's like I kind of struggle in
- 3:24that area as far as like trivia type questions, but I don't
- 3:30know, man. T minus like 2 hours and some
- 3:33change until this this trivia night, you've been running any
- 3:35trivia apps you've been running any quizzes?
- 3:37No, I'm just trying to stay sharp.
- 3:39Just going to go in cold and just hope I don't embarrass
- 3:41myself. I'll have to report back.
- 3:42Regret that. I'll have to report back.
- 3:44If if that ends up being the case, I'd like to know.
- 3:47I'll report back. Yeah, a little bit to report
- 3:51back on this Juan Soto situation.
- 3:57Now how how much you want to look into it, that's up to you,
- 4:02Nate and and the listeners slash viewers take it, take it as you
- 4:07will. But the little that we we do
- 4:10know, according to John Heyman, shout out for the block on
- 4:15Twitter. John, the known teams that have
- 4:23called about Juan Soto. According to John Heyman, the
- 4:28Yankees crazy. The Mets never thought that.
- 4:37The Dodgers wow the Blue Jays. The Red Sox?
- 4:50Dagger. That would really that would
- 4:53really hurt the Giants. Duh, they call every year.
- 5:00So the top. Guy, do I have a drum roll on
- 5:03here? I don't have a drum roll on
- 5:04here. That's a shame.
- 5:10In lieu of a drum roll, how about John Kenzie Noel's Home
- 5:14Run? No.
- 5:14No, no, no, no, no, no, no. You really need to replace that.
- 5:29I got to get a drunk. I mean, that's the best I have
- 5:31in in lieu of a drum roll. Finally, on the list here for
- 5:37teams to call about Juan Soto, the Tampa Bay Rays he was
- 5:46waiting to use that he's been waiting to use.
- 5:49That that's a good one. I like that one.
- 5:51I'm going to keep that stored. Oh yeah, that's a fake call, I
- 5:57think. Yeah, let's, let's go ahead and
- 6:00look at this list. Let's break this list down,
- 6:02shall we? Let's just go ahead and rule the
- 6:06Rays out. Fair.
- 6:09Done. Is that fair?
- 6:10I already did it mentally, I was already there, already moved on.
- 6:14Let's go ahead and rule out the giants.
- 6:20Can we go ahead and rule out the Giants?
- 6:22I don't, I don't know if we can. I want to, I just think that
- 6:30they're they're going to offer the exact dollar amount.
- 6:34I I could see the reports now. I could see the notifications
- 6:37now, like a few weeks after he signs wherever he is and there's
- 6:42a little report that comes out where like the San Francisco
- 6:45Giants offered the same dollar amount, the same structure, like
- 6:48the same that what he accepted. But I do get the vibe that he
- 6:54may be done with the West Coast, like that short little stint in
- 6:56San Diego, just out of he seems like an East Coast, an East
- 7:01Coast guy, you know, closer to the Dr. everyone at home can
- 7:03watch at the same time like that just kind of gives me at least
- 7:10some comfort thinking he'll stay on that side.
- 7:12But I don't know. It's, you know, similar to the
- 7:18similar to the way that I really up until this post season felt
- 7:22about the Mets. It's a, it's the same kind of
- 7:27thing for me where it's like the track record.
- 7:29Look at the track record. They don't get, they don't
- 7:31excite me at all. Mets fans were like, why?
- 7:33Why don't you believe in us? It's like you've given us no
- 7:36reason to believe in you. And then what did they do this
- 7:39post season? I went out and did something for
- 7:41once. It's the same thing with the
- 7:44Giants. Offseason after offseason, Free
- 7:48agent market after free agent market.
- 7:50Swing and a miss. Swing and a miss Offered.
- 7:53Offered more then the leading bidder or or the the ultimate
- 7:58suitor. Offered the same amount offered.
- 8:03Offered opt out like. Desperate at this point.
- 8:06It's they. I just don't until the Giants
- 8:10can land. What's an example like, I don't
- 8:19want to say like an Aaron Judge, but like it may be a tier below
- 8:23Aaron Judge until they can land or or maybe like just below
- 8:27Aaron Judge until they can land a player of that status.
- 8:31I, I in no situation, in no scenario do I feel that a team
- 8:35such as the Giants are going to be capable of landing a guy like
- 8:39Aaron Judge, as we already saw a swing and a miss.
- 8:41Even more so a guy like Juan Soto who's going to probably,
- 8:46probably pull in twice, twice the amount on his contract.
- 8:50Yeah, I just, I don't know, I think the Blake Snell thing was
- 8:55even more embarrassing cause of like that.
- 8:56He literally just used you and you, you accepted it, You agreed
- 9:01to that. And that's not being used and
- 9:04thrown away, right? And that's you don't even value
- 9:08yourself. You know what I mean?
- 9:10There's a lesson to be learned there.
- 9:12I think there is. There's a relational.
- 9:14Lesson to be learned there self. Value know your worth.
- 9:19Giants be be proud of who you are, look in the mirror and
- 9:24recognize that you don't have to stoop to such a level as to
- 9:27where you get used around you get tossed around like a rag
- 9:30doll. It's embarrassing.
- 9:32Pick yourself up. You're better than that.
- 9:34But even in even in that situation, Blake Snow, it's not
- 9:38even a good comparison because of the the way that the contract
- 9:43it was crafted, the length of the contract there.
- 9:45I I'm talking like a a long term star player until they can do
- 9:50something like that. Who's next to like that's like
- 9:53under control but hasn't signed like an extension early, young,
- 9:58promising. Who can we say?
- 10:02What's What's the? Who can we say say like?
- 10:13Would that? No, I'm not.
- 10:15I'm thinking hitter. Are you thinking hitter?
- 10:18Yeah, I typed in 2025 free agents, but I guess I would have
- 10:23to type in 26. That doesn't make any sense.
- 10:27You're a free agent in 2024, are you not like a Vladdy, maybe
- 10:37Vladdy like a Vladdy signing would get you.
- 10:41Yeah, perfect kind of go. And and that and that argument.
- 10:45There you go. If the Giants could get a guy
- 10:47like Vladdy Junior, like a bullshit one of the two, yeah.
- 10:51You, you then put to put to bed, put to rest that argument of
- 10:55like you, you swing and miss on every top tier name or upper
- 11:00echelon type name. If they could do something like
- 11:03that, OK, then I believe they'd be capable of getting a guy like
- 11:05Juan Soto. Unfortunately, Juan Soto is a
- 11:08free agent right now. So we have zero, we we don't
- 11:12have any situations or or examples like that to go off of
- 11:14for the giants. So.
- 11:16I just, I, I don't want to go there as a hitter.
- 11:19I there's no appeal. I don't there's no appeal.
- 11:23You get like one month of of good weather.
- 11:27I mean, I'm an East Coast guy and I'm not the free agent here,
- 11:31but like, personally, I wouldn't want to go to the West Coast.
- 11:33The only team I would want to go play for in the West Coast would
- 11:36be the Padres. He's already been there.
- 11:38I don't, I don't see that. I don't.
- 11:40See that coming back around it would be crazy though.
- 11:45So like, get the Hall from the Yankees and then swooping back.
- 11:48It doesn't. That doesn't.
- 11:49Feel right? It doesn't.
- 11:50I concur. Doesn't feel like a fit one of
- 11:52these other teams minus the race I I could see any any of these
- 11:58other teams happening before. Hear me out here.
- 12:00Can we take the Rays out and put the Mariners in?
- 12:11Why not? Now, let what we're what we're
- 12:16forgetting to address here is the the Boris effect the the
- 12:24game that reservices every offseason that Scott Boris plays
- 12:31of using these other teams as pawns.
- 12:36I don't know why we fall for this every offseason like the
- 12:41Red Sox are not a serious suitor.
- 12:45They're not. Do you think the Dodgers are I I
- 12:50put nothing past the dodgers. So I'm I can't I can sit here.
- 12:54I, I can't sit here and say that they are.
- 12:56They're not. I, the Dodgers have blown me
- 13:00away with what they've shown that they're willing and capable
- 13:04of doing. Because if you remember what
- 13:07was. That week that feels like Kevin
- 13:08Durant going to the Warriors that that it just feels soft.
- 13:13Yeah, I yeah, I think where the Dodgers are at now, I'm like,
- 13:17OK, you got you guys did you guys went out and balled out,
- 13:20You got these big names. But like I save some for the
- 13:25rest of the. League, that's where I get lost
- 13:26a little bit because like, I understand the desire to build
- 13:31some kind of dynasty, but I think the way owners at least
- 13:37mentally operate is that like it's almost a relief to go get
- 13:42that trophy so that you can like save money for the next few
- 13:49years and not hear everyone complaining, You know what I
- 13:53mean? Like it's almost like, OK, now
- 13:54we can back off now we don't have to be so aggressive
- 13:58financially and we can see what this core does if they run into
- 14:02stuff, we can continue to try and trade and fill in gaps at
- 14:05the deadline and, you know, sneak out a couple more trophies
- 14:08during this window. But like, we don't have to go
- 14:10drop another. I mean, he's going to get at
- 14:16least 40 a year at least. I mean that, well, that's
- 14:22another question. Can we, can we draw the line at
- 14:26like 650? Do we think?
- 14:29I mean, there's just, there's no way he's getting Otani money
- 14:34because you also have to keep in mind that I mean, who is not
- 14:37going to defer this money, this contract?
- 14:39Is if you do 650 and you go 12 years, that's 54 a year.
- 14:49Well, every all the estimates that I've seen are north of 12
- 14:52years, which I think it's a what I mean that's just insane.
- 14:56Like I've seen 13. I've even seen 14 which I get
- 15:00it, he's young but like what are we?
- 15:04I mean, that's still 46 a year, 14 years. 14 for 6:50.
- 15:08If you did 650, so even even if you brought it down to 600 / 14
- 15:14years, it's 42. Yeah, which for Juan Soto A.
- 15:19Nice round Number is 612 would get you 50 a year.
- 15:24There's just I like round even numbers that gets you there.
- 15:27You're saying 600 / 12 is 50? Yeah.
- 15:33Which is nuts. That's nuts.
- 15:35Dude, like with Otani, not to keep going back to Otani, but
- 15:38like with Otani, you, you have the, you have the pitching
- 15:42element, you have the international market
- 15:44marketability. And sure, you have that with
- 15:47Soto to a degree, but not nearly to the same level like that's
- 15:53that should be well understood at this point.
- 15:56My fear of the Mets getting him is because it's East Coast,
- 16:09right? We just talked about how we
- 16:10think he prefers the East Coast and you're getting out of
- 16:13shadows. That's the biggest thing you're.
- 16:17Bigger than every, everyone there, even if they bring back
- 16:20Pete, you're bigger, of course. So when you go to LA, you're
- 16:27back on the West Coast and are you, you're not bigger than
- 16:32Otani as far as shadow goes. If you're not bigger than Judge
- 16:34shadow, you're not bigger than Otani shadow on a, on a
- 16:37marketability, marketability type, you know, branding,
- 16:42personal type thing. Like you're not, you're not
- 16:45going to over shadow that. It just feels, I hate it.
- 16:51But the Mets do feel right. The Mets do feel right because
- 16:55they're going to be able to afford every dollar.
- 16:57They're on the East Coast. There's no shadow.
- 17:00It's his team. He immediately shows up and it's
- 17:02his team. As as great as he looked, as the
- 17:06Yankee, as great of a year as he had, as as beloved as he was, as
- 17:12as much as he loved it, maybe it wasn't his team.
- 17:17And that's why I, I think that's why the Mets just, they check
- 17:21every box. They check every box and I'd
- 17:26hate it. I really would.
- 17:27Then sure, baseball would love it because that, like, really
- 17:30just dumps fuel right on the the fire of what's been a pretty
- 17:36dull rivalry between the Yankees and the Mets that really just
- 17:40ignites it up again. Checks a lot of boxes.
- 17:45Well, Steve Cohen sure thinks so.
- 17:48A report came out today that said that he is going out to
- 17:51California to meet with Soto and Boris next week.
- 17:57And call me crazy, this a a deal of this size, a deal of this
- 18:05magnitude, probably 9 times out of 10 is probably running its
- 18:09course up until the beginning of March.
- 18:16I don't know I'm. I'm I think it's done quick.
- 18:19I'm made, I'm like sort of optimistic here that that we
- 18:22know who Juan Soto's going to be planned for by.
- 18:24Yeah, I think. The end of the year, yeah.
- 18:28I agree. I think Scott Boris is is trying
- 18:31to put all that stuff to bed of last year of waiting too long.
- 18:34I was. Big guys.
- 18:37And I think something quick, I think it taught him a lesson.
- 18:40If there if there's such a thing, then it kind of puts the
- 18:46bed any other, you know, conversation of players not
- 18:49wanting to be there or going to other agencies.
- 18:53I think that ends that. Yeah, I mean, even a, a guy of
- 18:57Scott Boris's stature, like he, he he took a hit.
- 19:01He took a hit last offseason. And you saw with the sound
- 19:04bites, the quotes from current clients, clients that cut ties
- 19:09with them once the season got going.
- 19:11They they made it known that they were not happy with him.
- 19:14And even with his resume, like it's similar to it's similar to
- 19:21baseball, man. It's like you're only as good as
- 19:23as like what you're able to do for me next.
- 19:26And and if if Scott Boris has any, any additional fall off
- 19:31like he he already is in the process of trying to maintain
- 19:35slash repair his image, I would I would think because you you
- 19:39got to look around the league. These teams are are calling as
- 19:42bluff, man. They're they're a little bit,
- 19:45they're not putting up with the with the nonsense.
- 19:47Anymore and there's and I think this is almost one at least for
- 19:53a little while probably his last massive client sure you know
- 19:58like you're not going to see another Soto anytime soon it's
- 20:02going to be a little bit. So he's really got to, he's
- 20:06really got to do well here. I'm talking with Boris like he's
- 20:09he's got to do well. He can't mess up because we saw
- 20:12how he managed that next tier, even the tier below that, you
- 20:17know, with Snell on Montgomery and Bellinger.
- 20:23Talk Toronto to me. What do you think what a slap in
- 20:27the face that would be to to your young core, huh?
- 20:32Yeah, selfishly, the Toronto just doesn't move the needle for
- 20:38me. And like I you want to talk like
- 20:41Soto looking for a team where it could be his.
- 20:44Not only is he getting the team, he's getting the country.
- 20:48And I know that that's the the consistent talking point when it
- 20:50comes to the Blue Jays, but that's the reality of it.
- 20:53And rarely are the are the Jays in the mix for a name of this
- 20:58kind, whether or not again, whether or not you want to
- 21:00believe Heyman, whether or not you want to think that, you
- 21:05know, maybe Boris is at work here trying to get as many quote
- 21:09UN quote bidders at the table that that's that's a personal
- 21:14choice. But I just for from a baseball
- 21:19to go back to the marketability. It just, I don't, I don't know
- 21:22if Soto being kind of, I hate to say it, but sort of like stuffed
- 21:28up in in in Canada, there's just something that doesn't really do
- 21:32it for me. And there's few, I mean, outside
- 21:37of like Ohtani and and Judge and and guys of that tier, there
- 21:41aren't really any guys that are are like you said, that are
- 21:46coming down the pipe that are going to demand such a contract.
- 21:49And I think this is an opportunity for Soto, for Boris
- 21:53and really for baseball sort of as a bystander, like the
- 21:56baseball world, to maybe see a guy of this status end up
- 22:02somewhere that could really move the needle for the sport.
- 22:07Yeah. And I just don't think Toronto
- 22:09is that is that place. What a way to what a way to
- 22:15argue to bring back your, you know, your boba shots and your
- 22:18and your vladdies. You know what I mean?
- 22:21Like, hey, I'm going to sandwich Juan soda in between you 2 and
- 22:26let you hit every day in a better position than you ever
- 22:30have. But the problem is that like
- 22:34even if they go budget with them, both of them, you got to
- 22:40think at least 25 mil a year for each of them.
- 22:45So now you're talking 100 mil between three guys.
- 22:50Is that team and roster configured well enough to
- 22:56sustain that financially and build around that?
- 23:01Like that's what I'm saying about the Mets, is that like
- 23:03they that's not the only move they're going to do.
- 23:06They're they've already said they're getting started pitching
- 23:09and we all know that they're in the Soto sweepstakes.
- 23:11So it's like they're planning on going at it.
- 23:16They just watched what the what the Dodgers did and they're
- 23:19saying we can do that too. We were almost there, you know
- 23:23what I mean? So, and especially when you
- 23:26have, you know, some young guys in control that are
- 23:29contributing, it's it's just hard to see any other fit being
- 23:36the same outside of the argument that, you know, he had his
- 23:40career year as a Yankee. That's the only Yankee argument.
- 23:44Yeah, and like staying in the AL ES the Jet to answer your
- 23:47question, like the Jays, the Red Sox, I I feel like if those are
- 23:53legitimate contenders here in the Soto sweepstakes, I think
- 24:00that they would just be better suited given the state of those
- 24:03organizations to take kind of like what you you and I were
- 24:06talking about with that, that video that came across our feeds
- 24:09recently where he's talking about, forgive me, I don't
- 24:11remember who posted it, but the the guy was talking about
- 24:15specifically for the Yankees, but it to me it applies for the
- 24:17Blue Jays and Red Sox in this conversation for the based on
- 24:22the list of teams that Haman put out.
- 24:24Those two teams in my mind would be much better suited to take
- 24:28the money if it's legitimate and distribute that amongst just a
- 24:35laundry list of names that could better improve your chances of
- 24:40of making a run. Like don't you're not in, you're
- 24:43not necessarily in a position to just go out and get Soto and
- 24:47call it call it an offseason. Like you need the Red Sox well
- 24:50documented. We're going to touch on it here
- 24:52in just a SEC. You need starting pitching.
- 24:54You absolutely need starting pitching.
- 24:56Last I checked, Juan Soda doesn't pitch.
- 24:58That doesn't help you. So just again, I don't think
- 25:03it's a a a they're a legitimate contender here.
- 25:06I think this is just Heyman or Boris using Heyman as a
- 25:10mouthpiece yet again. But if it is, I think the Reds,
- 25:16both Jays and the Red Sox are much better suited to look
- 25:20elsewhere. Utilize that money.
- 25:22I genuinely think let let's, I'm not even going to pick a team or
- 25:26needs, but I'm going to say add $20 million to your yearly
- 25:36budget of what you would spend on a soda.
- 25:38So let's just ramp it up to 60 mil.
- 25:43I think depending on how you structure those years, that
- 25:48could get you a Snell Bregman and an Adamus.
- 25:53I think you could get all three. And if you get a front end
- 25:56rotation, then your left side infield taken care of.
- 25:59And again, like I'm not choosing a specific team and saying these
- 26:02are their needs. I doubt all three of these guys
- 26:05would go to the same team, but that's the same dollar amount.
- 26:09And so at a certain point, like you have to weigh the what a
- 26:16generational talent is going to provide on his own versus these
- 26:19other holes that need to be plugged.
- 26:21And every team has holes, every team.
- 26:27So it's really hard to imagine saying that the Soto signing is
- 26:32worth it. As a Yankee fan, I've said this
- 26:34before. That's kind of how I feel.
- 26:37As much as I loved it as as well as he did, I'm actually OK if we
- 26:43miss out on it and the Mets go do what you've been so dying to
- 26:54do lately. And Pete Alonzo will be a will
- 26:57be a Red Sox after that. Speaking.
- 27:01Don't you put that evil on me, the Mets.
- 27:03Speaking of the Mets, not only are they interested in Juan
- 27:06Soto, they've checked in on Garrett Crochet, as have the Red
- 27:10Sox. As I have half the league I'd
- 27:14say. You know, I don't, I, I mean,
- 27:20obviously we have no way of knowing this for sure, but if I
- 27:22had to guess, I think more teams were turned off by the whole
- 27:30extension demand. I think so then we might give
- 27:35credit to because I, I don't know, man.
- 27:39There's just, and I I've said this before, this may come back.
- 27:42Stupid ask. I can't.
- 27:43I know I've said it before. It's so dumb.
- 27:45I know, I know in this, this very well could come back to
- 27:48bite me for sure and make me look like an idiot, But there's
- 27:51just something about this crochet situation that just does
- 27:55not sit right with me. And I don't know if it's
- 27:58underlying potential risk for injury.
- 28:02Like I, I just, I, I don't know if it's, if it's an ego thing.
- 28:06Again, going back to this whole extension demand thing.
- 28:09Like, I get it, it's a business. Do like look out for you, look
- 28:12out for what's best for your future.
- 28:13I understand all that, but it just seems awfully early in your
- 28:19career to be making these sort of demands.
- 28:23And I I just I just. Don't know?
- 28:25What if you don't like it there? That's what, Yeah.
- 28:29What if you hate it there And you know, God forbid for
- 28:34Crochet's sake, what if you what if you try stretching this
- 28:38starter thing out long term and it just doesn't pan out and it
- 28:43it ends up. I think it ultimately shows like
- 28:47his lack of faith in his own if the if this is his request or
- 28:52his agency's request, I think it shows a lack of faith in his own
- 28:55health. That's what I'm that's what this
- 28:57all goes back to. It's like if you're trying to
- 28:59buy a house and the person that's trying to sell you the
- 29:02house is like, hey, you know, everything's great.
- 29:05Don't worry, it looks great. Just go come on, sign in the
- 29:07papers and we'll we'll be on our way getting getting you set up
- 29:10in this brand new wonderful house.
- 29:12So you'll be out of here by Friday.
- 29:13Yeah, yeah. It's like hold on, pump the
- 29:15brakes, can I look around? Can I like, you know, just check
- 29:19out the rooms, just see how things are first before we rush
- 29:22into something like this. And I just feel like Crochet and
- 29:25his camp are just sort of navigating this a little too
- 29:29aggressively, especially given the lack of of body of work.
- 29:35I mean, you can look back to last year, sure, but I'm just
- 29:37saying like it it it it still just seems too early.
- 29:40And you know, like I said, it could come back to bite me, but.
- 29:44Are the Red Sox like? Is this just not deja vu?
- 29:50I'm in regards to stale, Yeah, well, I mean that we got a ring
- 29:58out of that so. I think I think Chris Sale had
- 30:01less question marks at the time. I think there was less worry
- 30:05around Chris Sale than there is with crochet right now.
- 30:09Yeah, it was post post World Series where it was like, OK,
- 30:13this just isn't the answer clearly, but you know, thanks
- 30:16for the ring. And that's I I still stand by
- 30:18that like was I absolute was I frustrated beyond belief with
- 30:21the way that that shook out? Absolutely.
- 30:23I was like, yeah, I'm done with the sale experiment.
- 30:25Stop trotting him out there every year saying like this is
- 30:28finally going to be a clean slate of health form it.
- 30:31It never was whether it was his fault or not, you know whatever.
- 30:35But. Yeah, show me, Show me who's
- 30:40your, who's your big first base prospect?
- 30:44Prospect. You're talking about Casas?
- 30:46No. So you had another one.
- 30:51Was he a first base base? No, we got, I mean, we got
- 30:54Marcella Meyer, we got Roman Anthony, Kyle Teal.
- 30:57He's buying a dish. I don't.
- 31:00All right, we'll throw in Bobby Dahlbeck.
- 31:03Oh, Bobby Dahlbeck's gone. And you probably you need more
- 31:07big leaguers tossed into that deal.
- 31:09I'm assuming the White Sox are going to want some more big, big
- 31:12leaguer. Dalbeck's not part of the
- 31:13organization anymore. Oh, he is.
- 31:16Yeah, he's he's Arb's already up.
- 31:18No, he, well, they DFA Ed him and then I, I don't remember how
- 31:22it shook out, but he's no longer with the team.
- 31:24Oh, just continue to clear space for Pete Alonzo.
- 31:30I think that's that's the way it is.
- 31:32Trade for crochet. No, you know what I want, You
- 31:37know that I got a guy that I want and I know he's he's had
- 31:39his, his question marks with with health and all that.
- 31:43But Max Freed, Red Sox are very much in on Max Freed.
- 31:47So I'm so I'm reading and I, I legitimately believe that I'm
- 31:50like, OK. I like Max Freed.
- 31:52Yeah, it's we're not talking, we're not talking Soto money,
- 31:57obviously, but you do need starting pitching.
- 31:59And it's it's, it's more than time to make a splash and.
- 32:06And it's perfect because it comes at probably a lower
- 32:09budget, I think a high ceiling, lower budget, you know what I
- 32:14mean? Like it's, it's a he's, he's
- 32:15going to have a smaller dollar amount than what we thought a
- 32:18few years ago. I think it's going to be, I
- 32:21think he's cheaper, but you've seen what he's capable of.
- 32:26So there's, there's a higher reward there.
- 32:28It seems like a perfect fit. Speaking of fits, where do you
- 32:32like? Where do you like Corbin Burns
- 32:35at? I've I've, I've kind of gone all
- 32:40over the place with this, honestly.
- 32:42Is it is it me or do I feel like Orioles fans have pretty much
- 32:46ruled out a reunion? Because I'm reading, I'm reading
- 32:50reports today that says that that speculate that the Orioles
- 32:55would be the the top fit right now.
- 32:57It's a. Little strange, huh?
- 33:00I don't know why if you're the Orioles and and bringing
- 33:02Rubenstein in to, you know, take over, take over business, why
- 33:06all of a sudden you would have no faith and Burns returning
- 33:10doesn't make any sense. I agree, I really don't know.
- 33:15He's looking at a a 200 million is is what's been reported.
- 33:19He's he's whether it's seeking or expected to get, it's around
- 33:25that 200 plus mil million mark. I don't know if I have a spot.
- 33:30I mean, what do you think? This is one that seems less
- 33:35obvious for me, like crochet for some reason, even though we said
- 33:41what we said about, you know, like the question marks around
- 33:43him, he just seems the the the shortlist seems much shorter
- 33:48than than what Burns is working with.
- 33:52Yeah, I really don't know. I don't know if I even have like
- 33:57a good guess. I mean, if if you're the Mets
- 34:04and if you're Steve Cohen and you just want to, you know, lay
- 34:07the law down and put everyone on notice.
- 34:11You try to knock both of those out in a week, get both of them
- 34:17the press conference together. I remember when the Yankees did
- 34:20that with in 2009, when it was when it was to share ACC and AJ
- 34:28Burnett. Boom, here you go.
- 34:30Here's where we're going. And it's a big power move, dude.
- 34:37I would do it. I like.
- 34:40That they need that. I, you know, I, I'm kind of with
- 34:43you. I don't know if I have like a, a
- 34:44number one destination for Burns, but I would probably
- 34:48think he stays on the East Coast because the thing that we're
- 34:53we're talking about here, it it's sort of, I mean, I know all
- 34:56these guys aren't identical in terms of production value,
- 35:01contract, all that. But a lot of these names are
- 35:04sort of plug and play. Like if you and we've seen the
- 35:07we've seen the way it pans out with teams and or we've seen the
- 35:10way that that it has panned out for teams in previous off
- 35:13seasons where, you know, swinging a miss on this guy.
- 35:15But let's go get this guy right away.
- 35:17If, if a, if a, you know, if the Mets want, I don't know if they
- 35:26want Corbin Burns, they don't get Corbin Burns, so they go get
- 35:29Max Freed or vice versa. Or, you know, the Red Sox, like
- 35:32we said, need starting pitching. Could that be a situation where
- 35:35you want this guy, but you got to go get this guy or I don't
- 35:38know. I mean, even the Yankees throw
- 35:39the Yankees into the mix. There's there's like this
- 35:42conglomerate up here on the, the northeastern side of things
- 35:49where it's like I sort of a plug and play grab who you can with
- 35:54the money that you got and, and let's move on to the off seat or
- 35:57to the to spring training. Yeah, yeah.
- 36:02I don't know if there's like a specific spot that just jumps
- 36:05out to me. I'm I'm a little weirded out by
- 36:10by the Orioles mentality. It's very odd to me.
- 36:16Why not? Yeah, like and throw them in the
- 36:19mix. I mean, right there, you got
- 36:20five teams for Burns. You got the Mets.
- 36:24You got the Yankees, Orioles, Red Sox.
- 36:27Unless the Orioles just go really heavy at Blake Snell.
- 36:30And if you're, if you're thinking, you know, if if you're
- 36:35going to have to start like scouting and and organizing
- 36:41based on, you know, Mount Baltimore over in left field,
- 36:44like Blake Snell was probably the better fit.
- 36:52I don't know. This is killing me.
- 36:58Who am I missing where I said you've got five teams for Burns?
- 37:02Red Sox. Just in this hypothetical, like
- 37:06Eastern, easternly quadrant conglomerate, you got the, you
- 37:09got the Red Sox, Yankees, Mets, Orioles, wasn't there.
- 37:18I don't think we're going to include the Phillies or Blue
- 37:20Jays. Maybe it was just four, I said
- 37:225I, I guess 4, but yeah, I mean right there.
- 37:26And yeah, based on like payroll and all that, it's it's sort of
- 37:30assumed that those teams are going to be in the mix anyway.
- 37:31But again, it's going to be I I really do think it's going to be
- 37:36just another offseason of like, oh, this team is set on such and
- 37:40such. They're going to scoop this guy
- 37:42up right away. And there's some there's some
- 37:45good options. I could see a surprise team
- 37:51coming in for one big splash and just stealing because, you know,
- 37:57there's always one team that kind of just like it.
- 37:59It disappoints us a little bit. I could see like a Twins or a
- 38:05Tigers coming in feeling like I'll take that, you know what I
- 38:11mean? And I do think the Tigers are
- 38:14going to surprise you this offseason.
- 38:17I think they have a good core to start, you know, pushing the
- 38:19chips in a little bit more. Feel like AJ Hinch really has a
- 38:23good heartbeat, you know, good pulse.
- 38:25Figure on the pulse for that. So I could see them starting to
- 38:34poke around a little bit. Yeah, I could see, I could see
- 38:37AJ Hinch having a have a nice little lunch on a cool Christmas
- 38:42Day at the local, local pizza shop.
- 38:45I don't know. I don't know where they go in
- 38:46Detroit. Isn't Detroit big in a pizza I.
- 38:49Don't think so? Well, Chicago, no.
- 38:52No, no. Detroit.
- 38:54Well, it's not really pizza, but Detroit.
- 38:56Isn't that where Little Caesars is HQ is at?
- 39:01It's not pizza. I know, I know.
- 39:04Tough. Right am I Tell me am I right?
- 39:07Is HQ in Detroit. Why would I know that?
- 39:10I don't know. Anyway, all right.
- 39:13Closing the book, Mike Schilt, do you like this move?
- 39:18Two year contract extension. Yes, I love it.
- 39:22I'm a Mike Shield Kai. I really like I I didn't like
- 39:26the treatment he got in Saint Louis.
- 39:28I thought it was silly. I thought it was weird.
- 39:31And I like what he did with the club.
- 39:34I like the fit. I I think if you're the Padres,
- 39:37you're like, you know, we had a good thing going.
- 39:40Let's just kind of build off of that.
- 39:42Keep it going. You had the World Series champs
- 39:45coming out and saying you were the best team that they faced in
- 39:48all the postseason. I concur.
- 39:51I think the Padres are right there.
- 39:55They're right there in a good spot to run it back.
- 39:58Good little show of force. Build something, create
- 40:02something. Stop with this one year
- 40:04narrative, take two steps back kind of thing.
- 40:09Keep it rolling. Mookie Betts to the infield is
- 40:15reported that Dodgers are bringing them back.
- 40:22Shout out Murray in the chat confirmed on Wikipedia.
- 40:24Little Caesars pizza HQ is in Detroit.
- 40:25I thought so. Now, whether or not we want to
- 40:28clash trustworthy source leather, whether like like
- 40:32Michael Scott says it's the greatest source of information
- 40:34because you can literally find anything about everything.
- 40:39Whether or not you want to classify Little Caesars pizza,
- 40:41that's not up to me. But you know, if that's, if
- 40:43that's. That was Paige's first job.
- 40:46She worked all, she worked like different locations all the way
- 40:48through college. I had it like one time in the
- 40:54last five years and I didn't hate it.
- 40:55That's all I'll say. You know what I think?
- 40:59I think Little Caesars, Little Caesars gets the job done in a
- 41:02pinch, on a budget, helps out a lot of families.
- 41:06You got to, you got to appreciate that they're doing,
- 41:09they're doing good work out there for the communities.
- 41:12So book it. You're going to see elite photo
- 41:16this offseason. AJ Hinch with Corbin Burns at
- 41:19The Local. Little Caesars.
- 41:22There you go. Just wanted to show off our city
- 41:26a little bit. Show you the culture,
- 41:29everything. All this could be yours, Corbin.
- 41:32In fact, you could own one of these franchises.
- 41:35If after this, we're going to go take a walk through the Ford
- 41:38assembly line and show you what we what we do here.
- 41:43Mookie Betts, the infield Dodgers said.
- 41:47Yeah, we're that's great that you're an outfitter now, but
- 41:50we're bringing you back in 2025. Apparently Mookie's the guy
- 41:55that's behind it. Apparently.
- 41:57I read that he said he wants like he's the, the leading force
- 42:01behind this decision. So you know, good for him.
- 42:03I, it was interesting, he said. He said the toll that it he
- 42:06felt, the toll that it took on his body, was greater in the
- 42:09outfield than in the infield. I could see that.
- 42:14Yeah, I could see both sides. I could see both sides.
- 42:17I think this is a little smoke and mirrors.
- 42:20I think I'm not fully certain that Juan Soto wants to play
- 42:27left field. And I think it creates a little
- 42:30bit of a conversation opening at least saying Mookie's willing to
- 42:34move into the infield and it's not, hey, we're willing to do
- 42:38this for Soto. It's a preemptive, hey, he's
- 42:41done this before, we're going to bring him back.
- 42:44I think it also maybe lowers the price a little bit on Willie
- 42:46Adamus. You know, if the rest of the
- 42:48league is saying, well, you know, this price tag is going to
- 42:54have to be met for Willie Adamus because, you know, the Dodgers
- 42:57obviously need a short stop, they're going to go well, now
- 43:00that lessens that a little bit. So there's a little like there's
- 43:04some showmanship going on. I don't see it shows.
- 43:08Gavin Lux to the door. Definitely shows Gavin Lux to
- 43:12the door I think. Put an end to that chapter.
- 43:14Yeah, I think it's time to, you know, move him, move him with a,
- 43:19with a piece somewhere, you know it.
- 43:23It does a little bit. I just, I don't see it.
- 43:27I don't think it makes sense. I I think he should stay and
- 43:30write. AJ says not good pizza, but
- 43:34pizza agreed. Kyle Hendricks Just super quick
- 43:43here, run through these last few items.
- 43:45Kyle Hendricks has agreed to a one year, two and a half,
- 43:47$1,000,000 deal with the Angels. There's going to be a bunch of
- 43:51these like super small, rather insignificant deals popping up,
- 43:54but this was just one that I, I saw pulling my nose together so
- 43:59I wanted to make sure we include it.
- 44:01The The Chicago Cub era has come to a close for Kyle Hendricks.
- 44:06Last remaining World Series, last remaining guy on that team.
- 44:17Yes, yes. Ian Hap wasn't there yet, right?
- 44:23No, Nope, I think it is. I'm going to say yes.
- 44:34Hap was 17. I'm.
- 44:36Going to say yes. 2017. 17 years old.
- 44:42Maybe he was a dude. I don't know how old Ian Hap is.
- 44:46Cool, cool. Got to do what you got to do.
- 44:51You know, Angel, you got to get innings from someone, Someone
- 44:55you know. Shohei Otani undergoes or under
- 45:00when I should say shoulder surgery on Tuesday to repair the
- 45:04labrum tear from game two of the World Series says he is expected
- 45:11to be ready for spring training. So not really anything news
- 45:14related, but it just goes to show you the, the, the severity,
- 45:19I guess you could say of, of that little incident, because we
- 45:22were there for a while, we were sort of unsure, like, oh, it's
- 45:24just a dislocation, blah, blah, blah.
- 45:26Turns out it was a labrum tear and.
- 45:29Impressive. Impressive.
- 45:31They stuck out and still took some daddy hacks.
- 45:34Oh yeah, he. Didn't even come up with
- 45:35anything but. No, I mean not, not really
- 45:38controlled, yeah, not controlled swings.
- 45:40He wasn't trying to poke at the left to left field.
- 45:43But. See, see, and that's my thing
- 45:46too, is that it was like, you know, it's torn, let it eat.
- 45:49You're not going to make it worse.
- 45:51You're still going to have this surgery, you know.
- 45:53That's fair. I like it.
- 45:56Lastly here, Skip Schumacher as expected, obviously no longer
- 46:00with the Marlins we've we've known that, but a little bit of
- 46:03a surprise heading to the front office in Texas.
- 46:10I think this is weird. I think it's not as I.
- 46:15I love it for the Rangers, I love it for baseball.
- 46:19I love former players getting into the front office.
- 46:21We saw what Chris Young has been able to do there.
- 46:25I just, I'm curious on like you made such a impressive impact on
- 46:34managing a team and then didn't really.
- 46:41Set now setting himself up for when Bocchi gets out of town.
- 46:46You think? Bocchi, You got to imagine
- 46:49Bocchi doesn't have many more years left in the in the.
- 46:51True, he moves awfully, awfully slow on visits.
- 46:54The only reason I thought it was like sort of surprised though,
- 46:57is because I just feel like you maybe could have just jumped.
- 47:00I'm like, I would imagine that somebody would have wanted your
- 47:02services right away. It must just be maybe he wants
- 47:05to be in that organization. I don't like that's the only
- 47:07explanation if if that's ultimately the end goal is to
- 47:11manage again, could. Be a family conversation, you
- 47:13know what I mean? Like, you know, it's you
- 47:16travelled so much as a player, now you're travelling just as
- 47:18much as a manager. Maybe you get a front office
- 47:21roll and stay home for a year or two if you're right.
- 47:24That's fair. Clearing the way.
- 47:26But I just thought it was interesting.
- 47:30I thought he did well. I thought he was mistreated
- 47:32there. I think everyone sees the Miami
- 47:35BS written all over it. I just would have liked to seen
- 47:38him go somewhere, but it is what it is.
- 47:44He'll be back. I think he'll be back in the
- 47:46dugout at some point. He'll be back and we'll be back
- 47:51next Wednesday, today's Thursday.
- 47:54We'll be back Monday. I think for now at least that's
- 47:58that's the plan this offseason, Monday, Thursdays.
- 48:02So we will hopefully have some more headlines, some more player
- 48:06news to discuss and or we'll have I think maybe an award or
- 48:11two, possibly discuss. I think the I mean, not that it
- 48:14really matters, but the platinum award I think is tomorrow
- 48:16actually, which great, great for Major League Baseball.
- 48:19Dropping a platinum award on a Friday night.
- 48:21Love that. Such a botched.
- 48:24Doesn't make any sense. Anyway, hopefully we'll have
- 48:27some more things to discuss with you guys Monday, but if not,
- 48:30we're going to, we'll bring something to talk about.
- 48:32Send us ideas. Send it if they're, if you want
- 48:34us to talk more about if you want us to do a little bit of a
- 48:36deep dive and a Little Caesar's pizza.
- 48:38Is it? Is it actual real pizza?
- 48:40Let us know. Hit us up in the Com, in the
- 48:42comments, in the DMS. I'll buy one and we'll do
- 48:46research right here live. It I would love that.
- 48:49It's good if if, if you're new to the show, it gets weird.
- 48:53The the more the offseason progresses, the weirder it gets.
- 48:56So just just buckle up. Just prepare yourselves.
- 49:00But that's all I got. Don't go chasing curveballs,
- 49:02folks. We love you all and as always,
- 49:03looking forward to talking more baseball with you guys soon.
- 49:06Until next time, stay filthy.
