Transcript
- 0:00Speaker 1: I'm just so proud of myself that I had the
- 0:03Speaker 1: courage to find out what if and to go down
- 0:06Speaker 1: that road and not knowing where it would lead and
- 0:09Speaker 1: if it would turn into something beautiful like it did,
- 0:12Speaker 1: or if it just kind of, you know, one of
- 0:13Speaker 1: those enjoy the journey kind of things.
- 0:29Speaker 2: Hey, everybody, Emily A body here coming to you from

- 0:49Speaker 2: And my goal through these discussions is to empower you
- 0:51Speaker 2: to better navigate yours and move with intentions so that
- 0:54Speaker 2: you can stride towards your own big potential and of
- 0:57Speaker 2: course have some fun a lot the way. Let me
- 1:01Speaker 2: tell you today's episode, there is a lot. There's a
- 1:04Speaker 2: lot of fun. Kira Dematto the newly minted, newly minted
- 1:10Speaker 2: American record holder in the Woman's Marathon. She is a
- 1:15Speaker 2: professional runner and my new bff. Don't just take it
- 1:18Speaker 2: from me, Kira says so. In our convote I absolutely
- 1:22Speaker 2: loved the opportunity to chat with Kia Dematta today, not
- 1:26Speaker 2: far removed from her shiny new American record of two hours,
- 1:31Speaker 2: nineteen minutes and twelve seconds, breaking Dina Caster's previous record
- 1:36Speaker 2: from London in two thousand and six. I adore Kira.
- 1:40Speaker 2: I adore her energy, I adore her spirit. It didn't
- 1:43Speaker 2: hurt that we started today's conversation with her complimenting me.
- 1:47Speaker 2: But there are so many sentiments, takeaways, and awesome nuggets
- 1:50Speaker 2: of wisdom in our conversation today that I am excited
- 1:53Speaker 2: to bring to you, regardless of whether or not you
- 1:55Speaker 2: are a runner, that are helpful and useful and wonderful.
- 1:58Speaker 2: Kira's journey is one of perseverance and grint. In today's episode,
- 2:02Speaker 2: she talks about her brief stint as a professional athlete
- 2:06Speaker 2: after college, stepping away from the sport ultimately because of
- 2:09Speaker 2: an injury, and pursuing other things in life that made
- 2:12Speaker 2: her happy during that time, including getting married, becoming a
- 2:16Speaker 2: mother of two, also a full time realtor, only to
- 2:19Speaker 2: find her way back to running after dabbling in a
- 2:21Speaker 2: bunch of other sports and modalities, knowing that this was
- 2:25Speaker 2: a at the time hobby, that brought her so much joy,
- 2:29Speaker 2: and soon enough that hobby would become a fiery, very
- 2:34Speaker 2: very real commitment to self and going after her big
- 2:38Speaker 2: crazy goals. For episode one ninety six, Kira talks about
- 2:41Speaker 2: what it's been like for her to juggle so many hats,
- 2:44Speaker 2: what it was like to have a breakout year during
- 2:46Speaker 2: twenty twenty and the prep and the build up that
- 2:49Speaker 2: came to that record breaking Houston Marathon at the beginning
- 2:53Speaker 2: of twenty twenty two.
- 2:54Speaker 3: Plus what's on tab next?
- 2:56Speaker 2: And if you are not inspired to eat at least
- 2:59Speaker 2: a full sleeve?
- 3:01Speaker 3: Is it a sleeve?
- 3:02Speaker 2: There's three sleeves in one pack, a half pack, a
- 3:05Speaker 2: single sleeve?
- 3:06Speaker 3: You go what I'm saying of oreos?
- 3:08Speaker 2: By the times conversation is over, well, then you weren't
- 3:11Speaker 2: listening appropriately.
- 3:13Speaker 3: Kira, again, a huge thank you for your time.
- 3:15Speaker 2: I can't wait for you to get your cuteness over
- 3:18Speaker 2: to New York so that we can go on a
- 3:20Speaker 2: custom cookie tour and planning it right now as I
- 3:23Speaker 2: record this, huge thank you, huge thank you to all
- 3:27Speaker 2: the Baltimore hurdlers that came out to hang out last week.
- 3:29Speaker 3: It was so great to meet you, irl.
- 3:31Speaker 2: And if you're listening to this and I met you
- 3:33Speaker 2: at the BBYO International Convention. I am better for having
- 3:36Speaker 2: the opportunity to speak to goodness so many teens.
- 3:40Speaker 3: You all inspire me to want to be a better me.
- 3:44Speaker 2: Make sure you're following along with Hurdle over at Hurdle

- 4:06Speaker 2: your inbox, likely before you even get out of bed
- 4:08Speaker 2: in the morning. Last little bit of housekeeping here. I
- 4:11Speaker 2: mentioned this on Friday's episode, but if you are a
- 4:13Speaker 2: DC hurdler, save the date from March sixteenth.
- 4:16Speaker 3: I'm coming your way. We're gonna have some fun.
- 4:18Speaker 2: More info and details to come soon, but I want
- 4:21Speaker 2: you to save it because I want to see you
- 4:23Speaker 2: with that.
- 4:24Speaker 3: Let's gets hurdling today.
- 4:35Speaker 2: I am sitting down with Kira Dematto. She is a
- 4:38Speaker 2: pro runner. I feel as though she needs no introduction.
- 4:41Speaker 2: But how you doing, Kia.
- 4:43Speaker 1: I am doing wonderful and I'm so thrilled to be
- 4:46Speaker 1: on your podcast. Your voice is the best voice in
- 4:50Speaker 1: the world. I started listening to your podcast and I'm like,
- 4:53Speaker 1: h I'm a dick, Like, you have the most amazing voice,
- 4:57Speaker 1: and I am so excited to be able to talk
- 4:59Speaker 1: to you in your voice.
- 5:00Speaker 3: I'm sitting here. If you could see me, maybe I'll
- 5:03Speaker 3: post this clip.
- 5:03Speaker 2: But I feel like, just now, I was that emoji
- 5:06Speaker 2: with like the big open watery eyes when it's just like,
- 5:09Speaker 2: that's so kind, you know what I feel as though
- 5:11Speaker 2: when you have a voice that is like not typical,
- 5:15Speaker 2: Like I know, I'm very aware that I have a
- 5:17Speaker 2: different voice. So you people either love my voice or
- 5:20Speaker 2: they're like, I am all set with that.
- 5:23Speaker 1: Oh it is. It is beautiful. I have serious voice envy.
- 5:27Speaker 3: Oh you're very kind to me. You're very kind to me.
- 5:29Speaker 3: This is about you. It's not necessarily about me.
- 5:32Speaker 2: So I'm gonna turn this around for you while bringing
- 5:34Speaker 2: my own experience into this moment. This is a fun
- 5:37Speaker 2: full circle moment for me because in the first six
- 5:40Speaker 2: months of the show, I was really excited because I
- 5:44Speaker 2: had Dina Castor on the show, and we actually recorded
- 5:47Speaker 2: in a London hotel room, and I remember thinking to
- 5:50Speaker 2: myself like, this is such a great get for the podcast,
- 5:54Speaker 2: like it's so crazy, and also simultaneously thinking to myself
- 5:57Speaker 2: like how much longer is this woman gonna hold this
- 5:59Speaker 2: rected four? And now fast forward four years later, I'm
- 6:04Speaker 2: sitting here with you, the person that broke that record.
- 6:06Speaker 2: The show is in a completely different place, and I
- 6:09Speaker 2: am just so excited to learn more about you than
- 6:12Speaker 2: what I have completely consumed on every other podcast I've
- 6:16Speaker 2: listened to, but also just like hear about your journey
- 6:19Speaker 2: because it is it's such a big moment, not just
- 6:21Speaker 2: for you and your family and your career, but women's
- 6:25Speaker 2: running as a whole.
- 6:26Speaker 1: Yeah, I absolutely agree. And I think on that day
- 6:29Speaker 1: that I broke Dina Castor's record, Sarah Hall also broke
- 6:33Speaker 1: the American record for the half marathon, and I thought
- 6:35Speaker 1: it was just such a powerful day for American distance
- 6:39Speaker 1: women running, for two women in their late thirties to
- 6:43Speaker 1: be crushing it. I think it is just so exciting
- 6:47Speaker 1: just to open up. I feel like the floodgates have
- 6:49Speaker 1: just opened and we're about to see a lot more
- 6:51Speaker 1: records go down, and it's just really exciting to see
- 6:54Speaker 1: where that is now going to propel our country.
- 6:57Speaker 2: Yeah, I don't want to get us too far ahead here,
- 7:00Speaker 2: but I do think that the sentiment of you getting
- 7:02Speaker 2: back into running because it was something that brought you
- 7:05Speaker 2: joy again later in life after having previous experience as
- 7:09Speaker 2: a runner, that is something that a lot of women
- 7:12Speaker 2: and men too may think about, but they're like, eh.
- 7:15Speaker 3: You know, maybe not, maybe I shouldn't.
- 7:18Speaker 2: I don't know, but like seeing that behavior modeled and
- 7:21Speaker 2: for you for it to pay off in such a
- 7:23Speaker 2: big way, for sure, I do believe it's just the
- 7:25Speaker 2: tip of the iceberg.
- 7:26Speaker 3: It's crazy.
- 7:27Speaker 1: For like a decade before, I guess it was. You know,
- 7:31Speaker 1: I took about seven years off between round one of
- 7:34Speaker 1: my competitive running in round two, and I call it
- 7:37Speaker 1: like my elaborate halftime show. But for like seven years
- 7:40Speaker 1: while I wasn't running competitively, like, I was thinking like
- 7:43Speaker 1: what if, you know, and what would have? Could have?
- 7:46Speaker 1: Should have? You know? And so I sat with those
- 7:48Speaker 1: feelings and I learned to kind of accept that, you know,
- 7:51Speaker 1: I wouldn't reach those dreams and I didn't have those
- 7:54Speaker 1: like goals anymore. But then just coming back, I'm just
- 7:57Speaker 1: so proud of myself. I had the courage to like
- 8:01Speaker 1: find out what if and to go down that road
- 8:03Speaker 1: and not knowing where it would lead and if it
- 8:07Speaker 1: would turn into something beautiful like it did, or if
- 8:09Speaker 1: it just kind of, you know, one of those enjoy
- 8:11Speaker 1: the journey kind of things. But I think that that's
- 8:13Speaker 1: something that like a lot of people can relate to,
- 8:16Speaker 1: is they have that thing that maybe they aren't pursuing
- 8:19Speaker 1: because of life or parents or just a crazy work schedule,
- 8:23Speaker 1: you know. And I think it's just important to be
- 8:24Speaker 1: able to carve out a little bit of time for
- 8:26Speaker 1: the you know, those little passions.
- 8:28Speaker 2: Yeah, and you said the word courage and it is courageous, right,
- 8:31Speaker 2: because you have to go into this being entirely open
- 8:35Speaker 2: to whatever may happen as a result of kind of
- 8:39Speaker 2: getting vulnerable with yourself again. Right, So for you to
- 8:42Speaker 2: be like, all right, I'm gonna try this thing, you
- 8:44Speaker 2: had to go into it with a certain amount of
- 8:46Speaker 2: grace knowing that it could go really well, it could
- 8:50Speaker 2: not go really well, and that that definition of the
- 8:52Speaker 2: word well was going to evolve over.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Time, absolutely absolutely. And I think from my I like
- 9:00Speaker 1: previous running and then I you know, took some time back.
- 9:04Speaker 1: I learned a lot about failure. You know. I had
- 9:08Speaker 1: those dreams that I didn't hit and I was so
- 9:11Speaker 1: scared of failure, and then I experienced it, and I'm like,
- 9:16Speaker 1: this isn't that bad. I'm still happy, you know, I'm
- 9:18Speaker 1: still Kira. Like I found other things that I really
- 9:21Speaker 1: like too, and so coming into this round not being
- 9:24Speaker 1: afraid of the failure so I can line up and
- 9:27Speaker 1: like I remember thinking the morning I'm on the starting line,
- 9:31Speaker 1: you know, and two hours and nineteen minutes later, I
- 9:33Speaker 1: set the American record. But my thought was, maybe it's
- 9:35Speaker 1: gonna happen today, maybe it's not. If it does, great,
- 9:39Speaker 1: if it doesn't, I'm still I'm gonna be exactly where
- 9:41Speaker 1: I am right now, and that's okay too. So I
- 9:43Speaker 1: think that being able just to accept that risk and
- 9:46Speaker 1: not being afraid of what happens if I fail, has
- 9:49Speaker 1: really allowed me to like, you know, accomplish these things.
- 9:54Speaker 2: Yeah, I think I was listening to one of the
- 9:55Speaker 2: conversations that you had with Chris Chavez on the City
- 9:58Speaker 2: of mag podcast, and you were talking about the time
- 10:00Speaker 2: that you decided to set up a one hundred meter
- 10:04Speaker 2: race with your husband after seeing that runoff for was
- 10:08Speaker 2: it at the Olympics.
- 10:08Speaker 3: I'm forgetting the details now.
- 10:10Speaker 1: So it was the Olympic trials in twenty twelve, and
- 10:13Speaker 1: there was that there's two women that tied for third
- 10:16Speaker 1: place and the uf pits the top three, so two
- 10:19Speaker 1: women tied and then there was going to be a
- 10:21Speaker 1: race off. So my husband and I like we should
- 10:24Speaker 1: do a race off, and so like we literally went
- 10:26Speaker 1: into our street and like marked off what we thought
- 10:29Speaker 1: was close to one hundred meters and like race and
- 10:31Speaker 1: one of us took one of the women. One of
- 10:33Speaker 1: us pretended to be the other one, and I remember
- 10:36Speaker 1: when name he remembers that he won. So I think
- 10:38Speaker 1: there's clearly two sides that story. But it was just
- 10:41Speaker 1: so fun and that's where I was at that point.
- 10:42Speaker 1: It's just kind of watching track as a spectator and
- 10:46Speaker 1: just enjoying it as a fan.
- 10:48Speaker 3: Yeah, totally.
- 10:50Speaker 2: And it was funny because I listened to you say that,
- 10:52Speaker 2: and I texted a dear friend of mine, Kara, and
- 10:55Speaker 2: I was like, you and your husband are Kira and
- 10:57Speaker 2: her husband like you two both runners would do the
- 11:00Speaker 2: exact same thing.
- 11:01Speaker 3: And she said to me that she had heard or
- 11:04Speaker 3: read ones that you said.
- 11:05Speaker 2: Every race that you start, you think this could be
- 11:07Speaker 2: the last race I'll ever have to run, and if
- 11:09Speaker 2: I don't like it, I don't have to do it again.
- 11:10Speaker 2: And she was like that has become my one hundred
- 11:12Speaker 2: percent attitude for every single race I show up too.
- 11:17Speaker 1: At some point in a race, I call it the
- 11:19Speaker 1: embrace the suck, where just like everything hurts, like your
- 11:22Speaker 1: body's tired, it's trying to convince your mind to stop.
- 11:26Speaker 1: And in that like more times than not, I convinced
- 11:29Speaker 1: myself during that time, like okay, body, don't give up
- 11:31Speaker 1: on me this time. Just push through, and then we
- 11:34Speaker 1: never have to do this again, like this will be
- 11:36Speaker 1: our last run. We just never have to run again
- 11:37Speaker 1: if we won't want to. So it's like I don't
- 11:40Speaker 1: know if that's good or bad. And you know, and
- 11:43Speaker 1: I think partly with running, like it's just so mental
- 11:46Speaker 1: that you have to say whatever it is to like
- 11:48Speaker 1: get yourself through and then afterwards like you're so proud
- 11:51Speaker 1: that you pushed through that, right, and then you figured
- 11:53Speaker 1: out what to say, like trick your mind and body
- 11:55Speaker 1: to like discover like your new limits. But it is.
- 12:00Speaker 1: I mean, I've thought that my whole life. I remember
- 12:03Speaker 1: my first race I ever did. I thought that in
- 12:04Speaker 1: this last marathon, I thought that same thought. You know,
- 12:07Speaker 1: so it's just it's just pretty funny.
- 12:09Speaker 2: Are you not concerned at this point with what I mean?
- 12:13Speaker 2: You're obviously you have a large platform. You're very well
- 12:16Speaker 2: known in the sport now, I would hope so being
- 12:19Speaker 2: the American woman's record holder in the marathon, do are
- 12:22Speaker 2: you not concerned with what other people think about what
- 12:25Speaker 2: you do? I hope.
- 12:29Speaker 1: As far as like my technique and my style, I'm
- 12:32Speaker 1: okay that I'm doing everything differently. Like that's totally fine
- 12:35Speaker 1: because I feel like with anything in life, like it's
- 12:39Speaker 1: you can take a very individual path and get there.
- 12:41Speaker 1: I always say there's more than one way up the mountain.
- 12:43Speaker 1: But as far as like caring what people think like
- 12:46Speaker 1: I do, like, I hope they As far as my character, right,
- 12:49Speaker 1: I hope they think I'm a kind person, a supportive
- 12:52Speaker 1: person like I. You know, so I do that really
- 12:55Speaker 1: means a lot to me that like just to empower
- 12:57Speaker 1: other women and to support other women, like I would
- 13:00Speaker 1: feel terrible if people didn't think that about me. But
- 13:04Speaker 1: as far as like my technique and the way that
- 13:06Speaker 1: I do it, I'm okay taking the you know, pathless taken.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Yeah, No, I mean I ask you that because I
- 13:12Speaker 2: think that that fear or like concern over the opinions
- 13:17Speaker 2: of others can be something that unfortunately does hold some
- 13:21Speaker 2: people back when it comes to maybe putting themselves out
- 13:24Speaker 2: there to get back into something or looking foolish.
- 13:27Speaker 3: So for you, I mean it.
- 13:29Speaker 2: Is impressive and also just really admirable that even if
- 13:33Speaker 2: that was a factor in how you went upon your execution,
- 13:36Speaker 2: like it wasn't the thing that held you back from
- 13:39Speaker 2: going after the thing that you wanted, right, And I think.
- 13:42Speaker 1: Like I have different like constraints and strengths, I guess
- 13:48Speaker 1: for training, so I have to fill that all in.
- 13:51Speaker 1: Like I am a mother of two and I'm also
- 13:54Speaker 1: a full time realtor, so I have to work around
- 13:56Speaker 1: and find a new way to fit everything into my life.
- 13:59Speaker 1: So whereas you know, some people may look at that
- 14:02Speaker 1: as like a weakness that I have other things for me,
- 14:05Speaker 1: I see that as a strength that I don't obsess
- 14:08Speaker 1: over running, Like when I take off my running shoes,
- 14:11Speaker 1: it's on to real estate or being mom or being
- 14:15Speaker 1: a wife, and I think for me that helps me.
- 14:18Speaker 1: I can be an anxious person, So for me, it's
- 14:20Speaker 1: a gift to be able to distract my mind and
- 14:23Speaker 1: to work towards other things. So I'm just not thinking
- 14:26Speaker 1: and obsessing overrunning. So, you know, I think just everyone
- 14:30Speaker 1: has their own way and their own I don't know
- 14:32Speaker 1: what I'm even trying to say, but I think everyone
- 14:34Speaker 1: needs to do it a little bit differently.
- 14:36Speaker 3: Yeah, I hear that. Well.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I feel as though we owe it to some of
- 14:40Speaker 2: the hurdlers to definitely do a little bit of a
- 14:42Speaker 2: dial back now so that they can get a better
- 14:44Speaker 2: understanding of what's going on here. I mean, I'm not
- 14:46Speaker 2: surprised we hit the ground running. And yeah, I know you,
- 14:53Speaker 2: of all people appreciate a good pun, a good joke.
- 14:56Speaker 3: Where do those Strava puns come from?
- 14:58Speaker 1: So they originate from popsicle sticks, you know, those like
- 15:03Speaker 1: I'd give my kids those popsicle sticks where you get
- 15:05Speaker 1: like a joke on the end and then you have
- 15:07Speaker 1: to eat the popsicle to find out what like the
- 15:09Speaker 1: riddle or the joke answer is. So that's where it
- 15:11Speaker 1: started coming from. Because we were like really crushing a
- 15:14Speaker 1: lot of popsicles in my house. I would just kind
- 15:16Speaker 1: of save the sticks and put them up on Strava
- 15:18Speaker 1: because Strava is awesome. But when you scroll through, like
- 15:21Speaker 1: if you don't change, the automatic run title is just
- 15:24Speaker 1: morning run, afternoon run, night run, and that's kind of like,
- 15:27Speaker 1: that's kind of boring, you know. So I wanted to
- 15:29Speaker 1: like spice it up and maybe make people smile. And
- 15:32Speaker 1: then like I stopped doing it for a little bit
- 15:34Speaker 1: and I'd get like, morning runs not a joke, Hira,
- 15:37Speaker 1: like come on, you know, let's you know, and so
- 15:40Speaker 1: then I was like, I guess I gotta keep this going.
- 15:42Speaker 1: So then it's just like a combination of jokes I've
- 15:45Speaker 1: heard throughout my life and I have like the worst memory,
- 15:49Speaker 1: but somehow jokes like find a way that implants there
- 15:53Speaker 1: like in my brain. So I just don't forget them.
- 15:55Speaker 1: Like I wish I could like remove part of that
- 15:57Speaker 1: and like hold on to like a little bit, you know,
- 16:00Speaker 1: I don't know, just more important stuff. But yeah, I
- 16:02Speaker 1: just have part of my brain carved out for jokes.
- 16:04Speaker 3: I guess part of my brain carved out for jokes.
- 16:07Speaker 2: So for those of you that don't follow Kira on
- 16:10Speaker 2: Strava or use Strava. When you go for a run,
- 16:14Speaker 2: it automatically uploads to this app, and as we're saying,
- 16:17Speaker 2: it automatically uploads and just usually says like time of
- 16:20Speaker 2: day run, so morning run, afternoon run, evening run, and
- 16:23Speaker 2: instead you can edit that. So Kira edits them and
- 16:27Speaker 2: puts in lots of funny jokes and it's always you
- 16:29Speaker 2: know what, it is a nice break in my feed
- 16:32Speaker 2: of like what's going on. It's like all this seriousness
- 16:35Speaker 2: and then it's like insert like the funniest dad joke
- 16:38Speaker 2: you've ever heard here.
- 16:40Speaker 1: Well, the best part of that now that people know
- 16:42Speaker 1: I like jokes so much, is people, even people I
- 16:45Speaker 1: don't know, will hear a joke and they'll send it
- 16:47Speaker 1: to me and be like, oh, I just saw this
- 16:49Speaker 1: joke on a billboard or someone just told me this
- 16:52Speaker 1: joke and I thought you like it. And every time
- 16:54Speaker 1: I receive a joke, I just think like I'm doing
- 16:56Speaker 1: something right, like something makes someone else laugh. I think
- 17:00Speaker 1: kured like this, like I am doing something right. This
- 17:03Speaker 1: is awesome.
- 17:04Speaker 3: It's the best feeling.
- 17:06Speaker 2: It's the best feeling to get that kind of interaction, and.
- 17:09Speaker 3: It's like it's not like You're awesome.
- 17:11Speaker 2: It's just like I love what you do and I
- 17:13Speaker 2: just want to support that thing that you do that
- 17:14Speaker 2: brings so many other people so much joy, right right,
- 17:18Speaker 2: what I was getting to And then we got punny,
- 17:20Speaker 2: and then I talked about us hitting the ground running.
- 17:22Speaker 2: I want to bring it back. I want to bring
- 17:24Speaker 2: us back at least to college. So talk to me
- 17:28Speaker 2: about you know, coming of age and what your relationship
- 17:32Speaker 2: was with running from a young age.
- 17:35Speaker 1: Yeah, So this, I think how I'm about to describe,
- 17:39Speaker 1: like my journey with running is why I love running
- 17:42Speaker 1: so much, is that it can evolve and it can
- 17:44Speaker 1: be different things to you and like in a different
- 17:48Speaker 1: part of your life, in different phases, and you just
- 17:50Speaker 1: need it in different ways. So I started in high
- 17:52Speaker 1: school just to be part of a team and I
- 17:56Speaker 1: liked running, and I thought I was fast, but like
- 17:59Speaker 1: I think running at that point was a way that
- 18:02Speaker 1: I built my confidence and had like a friend group
- 18:04Speaker 1: and then just a way to like participate in sport.
- 18:08Speaker 1: I've always been a fan of sports, and that went well,
- 18:11Speaker 1: and I got the opportunity to run for American University
- 18:14Speaker 1: in college, and then I started seeing like the competitive
- 18:17Speaker 1: aspect and I had like bigger goals and bigger dreams,
- 18:20Speaker 1: and I started taking it more seriously. And that's when
- 18:22Speaker 1: I started seeing like running could be something that I
- 18:25Speaker 1: do after college too, and so that kind of opened
- 18:27Speaker 1: my eyes that this could be a career also. So
- 18:31Speaker 1: it's now just something you know, for friends to competitive
- 18:34Speaker 1: to something that you could, you know, turn your life
- 18:37Speaker 1: around for. So after college, I ran post collegiately for
- 18:40Speaker 1: a couple of years for a professional running team in
- 18:43Speaker 1: the DC area called DC Elite. And after about two
- 18:48Speaker 1: years I had I started getting these like perpetual injuries
- 18:51Speaker 1: and my ankle and we found out later it was
- 18:54Speaker 1: because it's something called Tarsel coalition where I had two
- 18:56Speaker 1: bones in my foot that were connected, so I needed
- 18:58Speaker 1: to have surgery, but surgery wasn't covered. They said it
- 19:02Speaker 1: was the pre existing condition, so I wasn't able to
- 19:05Speaker 1: do that. So that's when I kind of retired from
- 19:07Speaker 1: like my first round of running. But you know, and
- 19:10Speaker 1: it was hard because I felt like I was kind
- 19:13Speaker 1: of pushed out, not on my terms, like I felt
- 19:16Speaker 1: like it was kind of taken from me, and all
- 19:17Speaker 1: those dreams that I fell short of, I just felt
- 19:21Speaker 1: like those were kind of like stolen from me in
- 19:22Speaker 1: a way, and then I felt like I was quitting too,
- 19:25Speaker 1: Like I was down on myself at first, and now
- 19:28Speaker 1: you know, got into I originally got into like it work,
- 19:33Speaker 1: and my identity had always been so wrapped up in running.
- 19:37Speaker 1: I was cure of the runner, but I'm now cure
- 19:39Speaker 1: the runner who doesn't run. So that was just like
- 19:41Speaker 1: a strange time figuring out, Okay, then what does Kira do?
- 19:45Speaker 1: And so I got involved with a lot of different
- 19:47Speaker 1: things and I figured out that cure is more than
- 19:50Speaker 1: just a runner. And I think that was such an
- 19:52Speaker 1: important lesson to learn. And I know a lot of
- 19:55Speaker 1: like athletes struggle with that that have played in high
- 19:59Speaker 1: school and college even professionally, just trying to figure out
- 20:02Speaker 1: like all the parts that make them who they are.
- 20:05Speaker 1: So that was I think a really important phase of
- 20:07Speaker 1: my life.
- 20:08Speaker 2: For you, when you were in those really challenging times
- 20:12Speaker 2: trying to figure out who it was that you were
- 20:16Speaker 2: when you weren't running, how did you find these strength
- 20:21Speaker 2: to kind of pick yourself up from that low place.
- 20:24Speaker 1: Yeah, I guess I felt like I just didn't have
- 20:26Speaker 1: another option, right, I can I can figure this out
- 20:30Speaker 1: and figure out a new way to be happy. I
- 20:32Speaker 1: can figure out new passions and new things to pursue,
- 20:35Speaker 1: or it can be sad, and that option kind of sucks,
- 20:38Speaker 1: you know. So I just I tried to focus on
- 20:41Speaker 1: the things that were in my control, and it was
- 20:43Speaker 1: exciting to now have like a nine to five career
- 20:46Speaker 1: and build new friendships. And I got into cycling for
- 20:50Speaker 1: like a few years, and I did CrossFit. I got
- 20:53Speaker 1: real into CrossFit for a time. So it was fun
- 20:55Speaker 1: to then take in just my athleticness and put it
- 20:59Speaker 1: into other realms. And I never felt like I found
- 21:03Speaker 1: like that love with running, but I really enjoyed it,
- 21:06Speaker 1: and I really loved being you know. If a girlfriend
- 21:09Speaker 1: was like, Hey, I'm going to go for a walk,
- 21:10Speaker 1: I'm like walking, I love walking, Let's walk. Hey I'm
- 21:13Speaker 1: going to go to spin class, I'm like, I love spin,
- 21:14Speaker 1: Let's go spin.
- 21:15Speaker 2: You know.
- 21:16Speaker 1: So it was just it was so fun just to
- 21:18Speaker 1: be able to do whatever I felt like and not
- 21:20Speaker 1: have any goals, not have any pressure. Eventually I got
- 21:23Speaker 1: that ankle surgery, and then I was able to put
- 21:25Speaker 1: running back in my life, and I wasn't quite ready
- 21:28Speaker 1: to dedicate my whole life around it, like I associated
- 21:32Speaker 1: running with taking it super seriously and just my whole
- 21:37Speaker 1: world was eat, sleep, run, and I wasn't ready for that,
- 21:41Speaker 1: and I didn't think I ever really wanted that, because
- 21:43Speaker 1: now it was this more dynamic version of Kira. I
- 21:46Speaker 1: got married, we were moving it around, we had two kids.
- 21:49Speaker 1: I became a real estate agent. I work for my
- 21:51Speaker 1: mom's brokerage in Virginia, and I didn't want to. I thought,
- 21:56Speaker 1: if to compete at that level, I had to like
- 22:00Speaker 1: that all up or just limit that. So I'm like,
- 22:02Speaker 1: you know what, I love running for fun. Let's just
- 22:04Speaker 1: keep running for fun. And that's when it just started
- 22:06Speaker 1: kind of snowballing.
- 22:08Speaker 2: What was the catalyst for you to decide that you
- 22:11Speaker 2: wanted to go through with the foot surgery?
- 22:14Speaker 3: Later on, it was.
- 22:15Speaker 1: Once my insurance permitted it. So when I started working it,
- 22:19Speaker 1: I had really great insurance and then it was available,
- 22:21Speaker 1: so I'm like, well, I might as well do this,
- 22:23Speaker 1: you know, I think for the rest of my life
- 22:24Speaker 1: like I'm gonna need to do it, get it done,
- 22:26Speaker 1: so I might as well just do it now. So
- 22:28Speaker 1: it was kind of just like I guess I should.
- 22:31Speaker 2: You and me both had a CrossFit phase. Did you
- 22:34Speaker 2: get injured, so you stopped doing CrossFit?
- 22:37Speaker 1: No, but I was like I was good at when
- 22:40Speaker 1: they're like, okay this you need to do this, I'm like, yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 1: not doing that one. You know, I was able to
- 22:45Speaker 1: like turn it down. But and then that, you know,
- 22:48Speaker 1: I was okay like doing like using a band to
- 22:52Speaker 1: do push ups or something like. I was okay like supplementing,
- 22:55Speaker 1: you know. So yeah, I never got injured.
- 22:58Speaker 2: But I feel like the legacy like good thing that
- 23:01Speaker 2: I have from my crossbit days and like I'm gonna
- 23:04Speaker 2: compliment you, like I still have some pretty great arms
- 23:06Speaker 2: from doing CrossFit like five years ago.
- 23:09Speaker 3: I know you have great arms.
- 23:10Speaker 2: I've seen these finish line photos and there's always like
- 23:13Speaker 2: a great pump in there.
- 23:15Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah. I also got like my squat got so
- 23:19Speaker 1: great from doing crossfits, so I was able to max
- 23:22Speaker 1: squat like really good. I had really good, like good
- 23:25Speaker 1: glutes at that time, let's put it that way.
- 23:28Speaker 3: At that time, I had great glutes.
- 23:30Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah, this is my good glutes, good glut phase
- 23:33Speaker 1: of my life.
- 23:34Speaker 2: Yeah, oh my goodness. So did let's touch on real
- 23:36Speaker 2: estate for a moment. So did you always want to
- 23:39Speaker 2: were you always like interested in going into that field
- 23:41Speaker 2: of work or did that kind of happen just on
- 23:43Speaker 2: a whim.
- 23:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I wasn't always interested in it. I mean, I
- 23:48Speaker 1: grew up. I'm now a third generation realtor, so my
- 23:51Speaker 1: grandmother was a realtor, my mom was a realtor, so
- 23:53Speaker 1: in a way, I felt like I was kind of
- 23:55Speaker 1: destined to be a realtor. So I resisted that, you know, like,
- 23:59Speaker 1: you know, no one's gonna tell me to do I
- 24:00Speaker 1: can do whatever I want. But you know, but I
- 24:04Speaker 1: grew up watching my mom and going with her to
- 24:06Speaker 1: open houses or you know, doing X y Z and
- 24:09Speaker 1: just seeing her life as a realder. So eventually, when
- 24:14Speaker 1: we got to that point with my husband and I
- 24:16Speaker 1: and we weren't moving around with military anymore, it kind
- 24:19Speaker 1: of just fit then. So yeah, I came over and
- 24:22Speaker 1: I'm like, I don't know how I waited so long
- 24:24Speaker 1: to do this, because I do feel like it's just
- 24:26Speaker 1: in my blood. Like I love real estate. I love
- 24:28Speaker 1: helping people with most of the time the most exciting,
- 24:31Speaker 1: you know, purchase of their life. So yeah, it's been
- 24:34Speaker 1: a great career.
- 24:36Speaker 2: And then another meaningful title that you have here is
- 24:39Speaker 2: also mom talk to us about you and your husband,
- 24:43Speaker 2: having your kids, and what it was like to charge
- 24:46Speaker 2: on working full time while also having this new title.
- 24:50Speaker 1: We had our son, Tommy in twenty fourteen, and actually,
- 24:54Speaker 1: this is a pretty funny story. So we were living
- 24:56Speaker 1: in Tampa, Florida at the time and we had signed
- 25:01Speaker 1: up they have a Gasparilla festival where they have four
- 25:03Speaker 1: races in one weekend and we were running kind of
- 25:07Speaker 1: for fun, not super seriously, and my husband were like, yeah,
- 25:10Speaker 1: let's do all four races. This would be great. So
- 25:13Speaker 1: we signed up for all four and like, after the
- 25:16Speaker 1: first day, like it just did not go well. I
- 25:19Speaker 1: was feeling like really terrible. And then so I told
- 25:22Speaker 1: my husband, I'm like, what if, Like I'm pregnant. What
- 25:25Speaker 1: if maybe that's why this didn't go well today? And
- 25:28Speaker 1: then he's like, Kira, like, you know, we just didn't
- 25:31Speaker 1: really think we were ready for that, but we just
- 25:33Speaker 1: didn't know if it would I don't know if that
- 25:35Speaker 1: was the time. So I was like, Hey, if I'm pregnant,
- 25:37Speaker 1: I'm not gonna do the racist tomorrow, Okay, I'm gonna
- 25:39Speaker 1: take a pregnancy real quick test, real quick. And I
- 25:42Speaker 1: was like, please be positive, because one we really want
- 25:45Speaker 1: a child, but also I don't want to race tomorrow.
- 25:48Speaker 1: So I did the test and it was positive, and
- 25:51Speaker 1: I was like, hey, I'm gonna bail out on the
- 25:53Speaker 1: races tomorrow because I just found out we're pregnant. So
- 25:57Speaker 1: that was really that was really, uh, that was really
- 26:00Speaker 1: but yeah, he got me out of doing those two
- 26:02Speaker 1: races the next day. That was I've been off a
- 26:04Speaker 1: little more. I could chew for that weekend.
- 26:08Speaker 3: Tommy going in with a splash.
- 26:11Speaker 1: Thank you, Tommy.
- 26:12Speaker 3: Perfect timing, perfect timing. So that's baby number one and
- 26:16Speaker 3: baby number two.
- 26:17Speaker 1: Baby number two came about two years later. We moved
- 26:22Speaker 1: from Tampa to Virginia to be close to family, and
- 26:25Speaker 1: my husband, who was in the active duty he's an
- 26:28Speaker 1: officer for the Air Force, got out of active duty
- 26:31Speaker 1: and now as part of the Virginia Air National Guard.
- 26:34Speaker 1: And we did that because we then we could pick
- 26:36Speaker 1: where we wanted to live. We wouldn't be moving every
- 26:38Speaker 1: couple of years, and we could just kind of stay
- 26:40Speaker 1: put next to family. And you know, having like young
- 26:43Speaker 1: kids is tough, you know, we wanted help with that,
- 26:46Speaker 1: and we also wanted them to be around their cousins
- 26:49Speaker 1: and be around family. So that's when we moved to Richmond, Virginia.
- 26:54Speaker 2: I was in your in your neck of the woods
- 26:56Speaker 2: a couple of weeks ago. I actually my I call
- 26:58Speaker 2: her my final roommate, the last roommate I lived with
- 27:01Speaker 2: before I started living on my own. She lives she
- 27:04Speaker 2: lives in the Richmond area, and we met in Fredericksburg.
- 27:06Speaker 2: And when I met with her, I said, is this
- 27:08Speaker 2: where they do like Civil war reenactments?
- 27:10Speaker 3: Like it just feels like that here. Yeah.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Yeah, we got a lot of yeah civil war stuff
- 27:14Speaker 1: here in like the Virginia area for sure.
- 27:16Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 27:18Speaker 2: But for you then talk to us about your relationship
- 27:22Speaker 2: with fitness after you had your kids.
- 27:25Speaker 1: Yeah. So after I had Quinn, we knew we were
- 27:29Speaker 1: done with two, and we're like, boy, girl, perfect, We're done.
- 27:32Speaker 1: And then I kind of felt like I had my
- 27:33Speaker 1: body back, because for years it felt like it wasn't mine,
- 27:37Speaker 1: like I was pregnant or I was nursing. And right
- 27:40Speaker 1: the day after I stopped nursing, I found out I
- 27:42Speaker 1: was pregnant again. So it just I felt like, for
- 27:45Speaker 1: that almost I don't know, three years or so, it
- 27:47Speaker 1: just didn't feel like my body. So it was exciting
- 27:50Speaker 1: to think Okay, this now it's mine again. I can
- 27:53Speaker 1: control this. I have complete control. And I was like,
- 27:56Speaker 1: you know, I'm gonna get back into shape, Like I
- 27:58Speaker 1: gained a lot of pregnancy weight, like I was setting
- 28:01Speaker 1: records like doctors like you probably want to like cool
- 28:04Speaker 1: it with and so I had to try to be
- 28:07Speaker 1: a little more careful. But so I was like ready
- 28:10Speaker 1: to get it back. So I started trying to run again,
- 28:13Speaker 1: and you know, coming in from like like heavier than
- 28:18Speaker 1: my like pre pregnancy weight, running was really tough. Like
- 28:22Speaker 1: the first day I went out and I like, I
- 28:24Speaker 1: remember this so clearly. I felt like I was running
- 28:26Speaker 1: on another planet with the gravity like twenty times Earth
- 28:31Speaker 1: like it just like everything was so hard. Just moving
- 28:33Speaker 1: each leg was hard. And I set out that day
- 28:35Speaker 1: and I'm like, I'm going to run three minutes, just
- 28:37Speaker 1: three full minutes. And I made it to like one
- 28:40Speaker 1: and a half minutes, and I just stopped, and I'm like, well,
- 28:42Speaker 1: this is as far as I can run today. I
- 28:44Speaker 1: walked home and like kind of I guess a walk
- 28:47Speaker 1: of shame there, but I walk home and I'm like, well,
- 28:49Speaker 1: we'll try again tomorrow.
- 28:50Speaker 3: You know.
- 28:51Speaker 1: That's that's as far as I could run today, and
- 28:53Speaker 1: I did. I tried again the next day, and I
- 28:54Speaker 1: think I made it the three minutes the next day.
- 28:56Speaker 1: So then it just the goals from there just kept
- 28:59Speaker 1: like snowballing. And and you know, at the beginning of this,
- 29:03Speaker 1: I wasn't looking like I never thought I was going
- 29:05Speaker 1: to come back and be a professional runner. I didn't
- 29:07Speaker 1: think I would be able to compete at this level
- 29:09Speaker 1: ever again. But I just kept setting these goals that
- 29:12Speaker 1: were just you know, just progress, you know, and every
- 29:15Speaker 1: time I'd make a little progress that was just so
- 29:18Speaker 1: exciting that I got so addicted to that little progress,
- 29:21Speaker 1: whether it was running like more minutes next day or
- 29:24Speaker 1: more miles in the week, or I don't know, having
- 29:27Speaker 1: like consistent weeks adding those together. I would just got
- 29:30Speaker 1: so obsessed with progress.
- 29:33Speaker 2: It probably also paid off in other areas of your life.
- 29:36Speaker 2: At least that's what I see for me. When I'm
- 29:38Speaker 2: working out and being diligent and consistent with it, I
- 29:41Speaker 2: feel more motivated to go after the other things that
- 29:44Speaker 2: I'm after.
- 29:45Speaker 1: Yeah, I think starting your day with like some form
- 29:48Speaker 1: of exercise is so healthy. I think immediately, like I'm
- 29:51Speaker 1: not a morning person, so it kind of like just
- 29:53Speaker 1: gets me up and gets me going, and then you
- 29:55Speaker 1: just feel so productive, you know, and all those endorphins
- 29:58Speaker 1: are like going through and then I feel like I
- 30:01Speaker 1: can eat a little bit like whatever more whatever I want.
- 30:05Speaker 1: Like if I run later in the day, I feel
- 30:07Speaker 1: like always have to like have it buckled down so
- 30:09Speaker 1: I don't feel it while I'm running. But like so
- 30:11Speaker 1: you just feel a little like you can have a
- 30:13Speaker 1: little more fun with food and uh. And then I
- 30:16Speaker 1: just like, I don't know, when you're feeling good about
- 30:18Speaker 1: yourself too. Just all that like just that positive energy
- 30:22Speaker 1: too that you got up and you felt like you
- 30:23Speaker 1: crushed it, you know, just you got to win right
- 30:25Speaker 1: off the bat.
- 30:26Speaker 2: On the day is just a powerful thing and it
- 30:28Speaker 2: says a lot about you and your personality to have
- 30:32Speaker 2: the mindset after you know, those first few runs that
- 30:36Speaker 2: weren't going as well as you'd hope that they'd go,
- 30:39Speaker 2: for you to keep showing up and to keep trying,
- 30:43Speaker 2: knowing that having this you know, relationship with running in
- 30:47Speaker 2: your past, that like eventually you're going to get to
- 30:49Speaker 2: a place where you enjoyed what you were doing a
- 30:52Speaker 2: little bit more with each day, right And I think.
- 30:55Speaker 1: Like during the time like that break period. I at
- 30:58Speaker 1: some points I would try running more than others, and
- 31:00Speaker 1: I kind of knew that, Like it takes like if
- 31:03Speaker 1: you were really committed for like two to four weeks
- 31:06Speaker 1: of running, you you feel some relief. You start understanding, Okay,
- 31:10Speaker 1: this is why people like to do this. But when
- 31:13Speaker 1: you're getting into shape with running, it sucks. You feel
- 31:16Speaker 1: like all runners are crazy, Like why would people like
- 31:19Speaker 1: to do this? It's just it's really tough to get
- 31:22Speaker 1: into shape. But once you start getting that feedback of
- 31:25Speaker 1: improvement or like losing weight or just feeling, you know,
- 31:28Speaker 1: feeling better and more confident about yourself, like then it
- 31:31Speaker 1: just kind of snowballs and it's so much easier to
- 31:33Speaker 1: keep to keep going. But yeah, at the beginning of
- 31:35Speaker 1: getting into shape, but when people tell me like no, no, no,
- 31:38Speaker 1: they're not a runner. I can't do that, And I'm like,
- 31:40Speaker 1: just make it past. Like if you commit and just
- 31:42Speaker 1: make it past like two to four weeks, like you're
- 31:44Speaker 1: really going to find like some enjoyment out of this.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Yeah, I feel that deep in my bones.
- 31:48Speaker 2: When I started running, I ran a half mile every
- 31:51Speaker 2: day for a summer and that was it. I never
- 31:52Speaker 2: tried for more. I never tried for less. I didn't
- 31:54Speaker 2: care how long it took me to run the half mile.
- 31:56Speaker 2: I was like, this is what I'm gonna do.
- 31:58Speaker 3: This is it?
- 31:58Speaker 2: Like it was a non option, and that half mile
- 32:02Speaker 2: encouraged me. That confidence that I gained from running that
- 32:05Speaker 2: half mile was the thing that was like, Okay, now
- 32:07Speaker 2: you've done this, You've accomplished this goal.
- 32:10Speaker 3: Let's think about the next one. And let's think about
- 32:12Speaker 3: the next one and the next one and the next one.
- 32:13Speaker 2: And now I'm sitting here talking to the American world
- 32:17Speaker 2: record holder for the marathon.
- 32:19Speaker 1: But I think what you just said is so powerful
- 32:22Speaker 1: that it's like you finished that, and then your mind
- 32:24Speaker 1: starts to dream a little bit, right, and you don't
- 32:27Speaker 1: immediately go for like the big wild dream, but you're like,
- 32:29Speaker 1: if I can do a half mile, could.
- 32:31Speaker 3: I do a whole mile?
- 32:32Speaker 1: You know? And that like little like what if, and
- 32:34Speaker 1: that hope and that kind of excitement like I might
- 32:37Speaker 1: be over extending myself, but maybe I could do it.
- 32:40Speaker 1: Like that little like hope and dream I think is
- 32:42Speaker 1: just so exciting.
- 32:44Speaker 2: So when does the hobby jogging turn into a am
- 32:48Speaker 2: I actually dipping.
- 32:50Speaker 3: My foot in this pool? Again, or like I did.
- 32:53Speaker 1: A couple of marathons and my times were like coming down,
- 32:57Speaker 1: and I think.
- 32:58Speaker 2: It was let's like shed some more light on, like
- 33:02Speaker 2: my times were coming down. You ran a three seventeen
- 33:05Speaker 2: your debut in twenty seventeen, Then the next year you
- 33:09Speaker 2: ran a two forty four, So that's like casual, no
- 33:12Speaker 2: time at all between three seventeen and two forty four
- 33:14Speaker 2: at Grandma's in twenty eighteen, and then a two thirty
- 33:18Speaker 2: four fifty five at the twenty nineteen Berlin Marathon. So
- 33:21Speaker 2: to elaborate on my times were coming down a little bit,
- 33:24Speaker 2: I mean, that's a lot of bit.
- 33:27Speaker 1: They were really progressing. I will say, though, like a
- 33:30Speaker 1: marathon that doesn't come up in my bio very often
- 33:33Speaker 1: is I did In twenty thirteen, I did the Montana
- 33:36Speaker 1: the Missoula Montana Marathon. I ran three forty nine forty nine.
- 33:41Speaker 1: I was so proud to finish that day. I got
- 33:44Speaker 1: to like maybe eighteen miles or twenty miles and I'm like,
- 33:47Speaker 1: I'm not a marathoner. I am not a marathoner. And
- 33:51Speaker 1: I walked, you know, walked ran it into the line.
- 33:54Speaker 1: I was so proud to finish and that was another
- 33:56Speaker 1: one that was like one and done, never doing that again.
- 33:59Speaker 1: So then coming back and like giving myself another chance,
- 34:02Speaker 1: and like it took me a while to heal mentally
- 34:04Speaker 1: and physically from that marathon, but coming back and then
- 34:08Speaker 1: running and I was like, wow, that was great. I
- 34:11Speaker 1: actually ran the whole way. And I was like, well,
- 34:13Speaker 1: maybe if my training gets a little more intentional, could
- 34:15Speaker 1: I break three hours. So I got you know, I
- 34:17Speaker 1: did a little bit more distance and start doing more
- 34:19Speaker 1: workouts and then I ran. Yeah. The two forty seven
- 34:23Speaker 1: was the next one, and that's when I pulled a
- 34:25Speaker 1: coach in and was like, I think I can make
- 34:27Speaker 1: the trials. I really think I can do that, but
- 34:29Speaker 1: I just I need to get intentional. Like up until
- 34:31Speaker 1: that point, I was just running whatever I felt like running.
- 34:34Speaker 1: Like I tell people, I was on the Rooftier float
- 34:37Speaker 1: training plan because if I ran ten miles in a day,
- 34:39Speaker 1: I'd get a Rootier float at night. And that was
- 34:41Speaker 1: like my whole training plan, which but if you do,
- 34:44Speaker 1: I was getting them every night because I wanted to
- 34:46Speaker 1: run ten miles every day so I could get a
- 34:48Speaker 1: roop Your float every night. And so when you look
- 34:50Speaker 1: at that, that's like seventy miles a week. That's pretty
- 34:52Speaker 1: intense training. That's a lot. But I was so obsessed
- 34:56Speaker 1: with Rootier floats. That was like the carrot I needed then,
- 34:58Speaker 1: So yeah, so I I need a carrot. Yeah, figure
- 35:03Speaker 1: out what that Rootier float is for you. And yeah,
- 35:05Speaker 1: I don't recommend that training in ten miles. That's probably
- 35:08Speaker 1: a little excessive, but coming from like kind of a
- 35:10Speaker 1: background and running, but you know, it's like the point
- 35:13Speaker 1: of that is just it was fun and it was
- 35:15Speaker 1: like what I needed, and it was my motivation and
- 35:17Speaker 1: I was rewarding myself for like daily little goals, you know,
- 35:21Speaker 1: and I was like being a cheerleader and I felt
- 35:23Speaker 1: so good every night getting my little Rootier float. And
- 35:26Speaker 1: but yeah, so I got I got more intentional, and
- 35:28Speaker 1: with every marathon, I did, like we started adding more
- 35:31Speaker 1: into the training, and you know, like at first it
- 35:34Speaker 1: was just running, and then I was adding some more
- 35:36Speaker 1: speed work, and then I was adding some more long
- 35:38Speaker 1: tempo runs, and then I started adding you know, strength
- 35:41Speaker 1: and pilates and my hurdle drills and foot exercises and
- 35:46Speaker 1: pet and so it's like it just all snowballed. And
- 35:49Speaker 1: every time I'd be like, Okay, what else can we
- 35:51Speaker 1: do and what else can we add to keep like
- 35:54Speaker 1: just me stimulated and to make sure that I can
- 35:57Speaker 1: keep improving and just I don't know, wake up the body,
- 36:00Speaker 1: I guess, but.
- 36:01Speaker 2: I mean, hearing you talk about it, the question starts
- 36:04Speaker 2: to beckon, like how did you fit it all in?
- 36:07Speaker 2: You're getting so intentional with your training and now like
- 36:10Speaker 2: you're probably going from one to two sessions a day,
- 36:13Speaker 2: and then you're also finding time to see your PT
- 36:16Speaker 2: and you're also momming and you're also a realtor. Like
- 36:19Speaker 2: that schedule becomes like super hectic. I would have to
- 36:22Speaker 2: imagine that despite wanting to be very present in each
- 36:25Speaker 2: of those individual things at times, that probably proved challenging.
- 36:29Speaker 1: Yeah, it's tough, and I think, like the best way
- 36:32Speaker 1: I can answer, like I wish I had more advice
- 36:35Speaker 1: around this because this is I feel like the age
- 36:38Speaker 1: old question, like we all need to find like more
- 36:40Speaker 1: time in our day and that. But like for me,
- 36:43Speaker 1: like I just asked for help and like that's hard
- 36:46Speaker 1: for me to do, like a type a person, like
- 36:48Speaker 1: I really like I feel like I can do it all,
- 36:52Speaker 1: but like I prioritize what's most important and put those
- 36:55Speaker 1: into my So first it's family, and then it was
- 36:57Speaker 1: real estate and then running, and so I kind of
- 37:00Speaker 1: put things into my day in that order to make
- 37:03Speaker 1: sure that I'm accomplishing my most important goals first and
- 37:07Speaker 1: then like stuff that was like double dipping, or when
- 37:10Speaker 1: I just didn't have enough space, like I just asked
- 37:12Speaker 1: for help from my family, from extended family, from I'd
- 37:16Speaker 1: hire like a babysitter up the street to come watch
- 37:18Speaker 1: my kids so I could get in a little bit
- 37:20Speaker 1: of run if my husband was gone. So off the street,
- 37:24Speaker 1: just up the street. Hey you up the street, Yeah,
- 37:27Speaker 1: come on in. How are you like babysitting? All right,
- 37:29Speaker 1: I got a job for you. But yeah, So I
- 37:31Speaker 1: think just learning to ask for help and not feeling
- 37:33Speaker 1: guilty about asking for help. I think we all want
- 37:36Speaker 1: to do it all, and I just learned like I
- 37:39Speaker 1: can't do it all, you know, And like I'm never
- 37:42Speaker 1: going to be the mom that bakes like the awesome
- 37:44Speaker 1: cupcakes and sends them in on the birthday. I'm going
- 37:46Speaker 1: in and buying store bought, you know. But that's something
- 37:49Speaker 1: that's like I'm okay, I'm not going to be that
- 37:51Speaker 1: like baking mom. You know that's okay. So I think
- 37:54Speaker 1: just like I don't know, And I think also I've said,
- 37:57Speaker 1: like to be good at like a couple of things,
- 38:00Speaker 1: I suck at a lot of other things, you know,
- 38:02Speaker 1: So there's definitely like the things that we're talking about,
- 38:05Speaker 1: I feel like I found how to manage, but there's
- 38:07Speaker 1: a lot of things in my life that I'm not
- 38:09Speaker 1: good at and like I need even more help at.
- 38:12Speaker 1: I don't know. So it's just being okay to suck
- 38:13Speaker 1: at some things too.
- 38:14Speaker 2: I mean, you were talking about that progress with the
- 38:18Speaker 2: marathons and then being more intentional with your training. I
- 38:22Speaker 2: don't want to like diss the root beer float mentality,
- 38:25Speaker 2: but I would also have to think that you had
- 38:27Speaker 2: to get a little bit more intentional about what you
- 38:29Speaker 2: were putting into your body as well.
- 38:31Speaker 1: Absolutely, And you know, it took me a little bit
- 38:35Speaker 1: to figure that part out, And it took me like
- 38:38Speaker 1: a lot of like failures to figure out that I
- 38:41Speaker 1: needed like help with that. Like I remember at first,
- 38:43Speaker 1: I would get a little lightheaded while running, and I'd
- 38:46Speaker 1: come back and do some research and it was probably
- 38:48Speaker 1: because I wasn't need enough protein. And then sometimes I
- 38:51Speaker 1: would just run out of energy and feel so flat,
- 38:53Speaker 1: and I'd do more research and it was like low,
- 38:56Speaker 1: like carbs I didn't have, wasn't getting enough before I ran.
- 39:00Speaker 1: And that's when like I reached out. I was like,
- 39:01Speaker 1: I need help with this, and so I did some
- 39:03Speaker 1: research and that's when I reached out to Insight Tracker,
- 39:05Speaker 1: who I've done. They do like quarterly analysis for me,
- 39:10Speaker 1: like a blood analysis and track all my biomarkers. So
- 39:13Speaker 1: that actually is how nutrition wise I've been able to
- 39:17Speaker 1: balance it because they've been able to point out like
- 39:21Speaker 1: my iron was really low, my vitamin D was really low,
- 39:24Speaker 1: my vitamin B and so, and they were able to
- 39:27Speaker 1: point me in you know, just give me helps with
- 39:30Speaker 1: nutrition suggestions and how to get that in meal form.
- 39:34Speaker 1: So that was that really really helped. But that was
- 39:36Speaker 1: something to learn because training for a marathon takes a
- 39:39Speaker 1: lot out of you and it depletes you a lot.
- 39:41Speaker 1: So like I had never trained at that level, so
- 39:44Speaker 1: that was important for me to get help again in
- 39:46Speaker 1: other places to figure out how to how to maximize that.
- 39:49Speaker 2: Yeah, and on the note of asking for help, I
- 39:51Speaker 2: mean especially when it comes to your nutrition. So often
- 39:54Speaker 2: we're just thinking about the training plan and the doing
- 39:56Speaker 2: and the doing and the doing. But if you don't
- 39:58Speaker 2: take in that nutrition. Also mentioned that buzzword recovery and
- 40:01Speaker 2: do account, then all that training could be for nothing
- 40:04Speaker 2: if you're not giving your body what it needs in
- 40:07Speaker 2: all that other time in your day when you're not
- 40:09Speaker 2: actually on the run. I mean full disclosure. Inside Tracker
- 40:13Speaker 2: is a sponsor on the show, so I hear your
- 40:16Speaker 2: sentiments and echo them completely when it comes to just
- 40:18Speaker 2: acting yourself, the little questions like you don't need to
- 40:21Speaker 2: be tired to that extent when you finish a run,
- 40:24Speaker 2: and like maybe asking yourself like why is that happening?
- 40:26Speaker 2: I too struggled with low Farredin levels and so getting
- 40:30Speaker 2: those like customized personalized recommendations so that it wasn't just
- 40:33Speaker 2: like okay, you have low faridin. It was like, okay,
- 40:36Speaker 2: you have low Faridin and this is exactly what you
- 40:38Speaker 2: can do so that you can do something about that
- 40:41Speaker 2: and then you will have a payoff in how you
- 40:44Speaker 2: feel like. It was a very like this is A,
- 40:46Speaker 2: this is B, this is C. Now you can move
- 40:48Speaker 2: forward with your life right.
- 40:50Speaker 1: Right, And it just made it so easy seeing it.
- 40:52Speaker 1: And I've had problems with iron in my past. So
- 40:56Speaker 1: every year when I go to my regular checkup, I
- 40:58Speaker 1: have them check all my level and for the last
- 41:01Speaker 1: like before inside Tracker, they were saying like, yep, you're
- 41:04Speaker 1: good to go, and then when I get to inside Tracker,
- 41:07Speaker 1: they look on it. They compare me to endurance athletes
- 41:10Speaker 1: because you can sort like like what your goals are?
- 41:13Speaker 1: You do want to just overall wellness. Are you having
- 41:17Speaker 1: trouble sleeping? Are you endurance athlete? Are you like weight
- 41:20Speaker 1: lost your goals? So depending on what those goals are,
- 41:22Speaker 1: they like set those those levels for your biomarkers. So
- 41:26Speaker 1: when I came back, like I thought, my iron was fine,
- 41:28Speaker 1: and they're like, you, for an endurance athlete, you need
- 41:31Speaker 1: a lot of work on this, So you need to
- 41:32Speaker 1: start adding to more beans and red meats and you know,
- 41:36Speaker 1: just starting making sure that you're focusing on all that.
- 41:38Speaker 1: But that really changed how I looked at how I
- 41:40Speaker 1: was fueling, which really now like my energy levels are
- 41:44Speaker 1: so much higher, like I'm able to perform, and when
- 41:47Speaker 1: stuff like that comes up, like if I'm feeling lightheaded
- 41:49Speaker 1: or if I'm feeling really hungry, I think I'm not
- 41:52Speaker 1: fueling myself in the right way.
- 41:59Speaker 2: Taking break from today's episode to give some love to
- 42:02Speaker 2: my sponsors.
- 42:03Speaker 3: First up, my friends at inside Tracker.
- 42:06Speaker 2: Kira and I talked about inside Tracker in today's episode,
- 42:09Speaker 2: and that's because we both work with the brand and
- 42:11Speaker 2: we are both obsessed. Through inside Tracker's patentent analysis of
- 42:16Speaker 2: your blood, DNA and lifestyle, they create a one of
- 42:20Speaker 2: a kind, science backed action plan to help you reach
- 42:23Speaker 2: your potential for better than ever performance and a longer,
- 42:26Speaker 2: healthier life. And something I love that Kira highlighted in
- 42:30Speaker 2: today's episode is that they are making these recommendations.
- 42:33Speaker 3: Based on what your goals are.
- 42:35Speaker 2: So whereas Kira may have a different requirement for something
- 42:39Speaker 2: like ferret in or vitamin D as an elite endurance
- 42:43Speaker 2: athlete than someone else may have who is not trying
- 42:47Speaker 2: to run absolutely fast times, everyone can benefit from this service.
- 42:51Speaker 2: Everyone can benefit from knowing more about what is going
- 42:54Speaker 2: on with them and their body. With my experience with
- 42:57Speaker 2: inside Tracker, I also found out, similar to Kira, that
- 43:00Speaker 2: I was low in vitamin D and I was low
- 43:03Speaker 2: in farridin and that I could make some really easy
- 43:06Speaker 2: tweaks to my weekly diet to make sure that I
- 43:08Speaker 2: was giving my body the nutrients that it needed to
- 43:10Speaker 2: perform at its best. Prioritize your health. Do goodbye you
- 43:15Speaker 2: by getting.
- 43:17Speaker 3: On the inside Tracker bandwagon as well.

- 45:03Speaker 2: free sample pack of my favorite flavors today. Let's keep
- 45:15Speaker 2: talking here through your breakout year, because you hit an
- 45:19Speaker 2: unexpected hurdle after doing so much of this good work
- 45:23Speaker 2: in that you were dealing at one point with a
- 45:26Speaker 2: little bit of an injury.
- 45:28Speaker 3: Talk to us about that injury and what it meant
- 45:30Speaker 3: for your running.
- 45:32Speaker 1: Yeah, so I came off like in twenty twenty. It
- 45:34Speaker 1: was like a really magical year for me and in
- 45:37Speaker 1: a year that really the world shut down and we
- 45:40Speaker 1: were all going through a lot with COVID. I just
- 45:43Speaker 1: that was what I clung to during that chaos, and
- 45:46Speaker 1: I was like, well, you know, everything else is a
- 45:49Speaker 1: little chaotic, but I still can run, you know, running
- 45:51Speaker 1: it's not canceled. So I really really clung to that
- 45:54Speaker 1: for just physical and mental sanity, I guess. And it
- 45:58Speaker 1: went really well for me, and you know, I broke
- 46:01Speaker 1: the American record in the ten miles that year and
- 46:04Speaker 1: I had a really great marathon. So I was expecting
- 46:05Speaker 1: all these big things in twenty twenty one and just
- 46:08Speaker 1: to keep building on that. And then I got injured
- 46:11Speaker 1: and it took me a few months to identify I
- 46:15Speaker 1: was treating the pain and not figuring out the cause.
- 46:19Speaker 1: So it took me a little bit to figure out
- 46:20Speaker 1: what the route was. And once I did, you know,
- 46:23Speaker 1: it was a big strength imbalance which was leading my
- 46:26Speaker 1: hips to get a little out of line, which was
- 46:28Speaker 1: putting stress on my hamstring and then straining my hamstring.
- 46:31Speaker 1: So I've now like getting even more intentional with my
- 46:34Speaker 1: strength and recovery exercises in all my prehab. And it definitely,
- 46:39Speaker 1: I mean that really sucked because it was a month
- 46:42Speaker 1: before the Olympic track trials and I thought that I had,
- 46:46Speaker 1: you know, like I had, I thought I had a
- 46:48Speaker 1: shot at possibly making that Olympic team. So having to
- 46:51Speaker 1: pull out of the Olympic trials that was hard. That like,
- 46:56Speaker 1: really that really sucked. But I gave myself kind of
- 46:59Speaker 1: similar to we talked about before, is like I gave
- 47:02Speaker 1: myself time to be sad, and then I was like, well,
- 47:04Speaker 1: I can either be sad about this or I can
- 47:06Speaker 1: start working towards new goals. Okay, what are these new goals.
- 47:08Speaker 1: Let's figure out. Let's keep moving forward. So I quickly
- 47:11Speaker 1: just shifted that focus, like even though it's still hurt
- 47:15Speaker 1: and it's stung, and I definitely had FOMO watching it
- 47:18Speaker 1: the trials and the Olympics, but I just shifted the
- 47:21Speaker 1: focus and I'm like, Okay, well that's not that's not
- 47:23Speaker 1: a dream anymore. Let's figure out what is. So I
- 47:26Speaker 1: just kind of shifted to thinking about Fall marathon at
- 47:29Speaker 1: that time.
- 47:30Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean that perspective shift is so difficult for you,
- 47:36Speaker 2: having to be a mom to your kids and to
- 47:40Speaker 2: keep going to work and you know, keep doing what
- 47:42Speaker 2: you were doing despite the fact that inside you were.
- 47:46Speaker 3: Really going through it. I mean I would be too.
- 47:49Speaker 2: How what was the thing that helped you shift your perspective?
- 47:54Speaker 1: Well, And I think it's just that balance of the
- 47:57Speaker 1: different priorities in my life. Like, so I wasn't running
- 48:00Speaker 1: as much, and I wasn't competing, so I wasn't traveling,
- 48:03Speaker 1: but I was able to like wake up and make
- 48:06Speaker 1: breakfast and just have a relaxing morning with the kids,
- 48:09Speaker 1: you know, like on Sundays, usually I'd be out running
- 48:11Speaker 1: for two or three hours, but now we are going
- 48:14Speaker 1: strawberry picking, you know. So I filled that void with
- 48:18Speaker 1: just things that I also really love. So it made
- 48:20Speaker 1: it easier, right, It didn't fix the problem, but I
- 48:23Speaker 1: just put all my energy into two other things. And
- 48:27Speaker 1: at the time then with real estate, I was studying,
- 48:29Speaker 1: I got my broker's license and I opened up a
- 48:31Speaker 1: property management company and that was really time consuming. I
- 48:35Speaker 1: would have never had that time if I was running
- 48:38Speaker 1: and competing and traveling at that level. So I just
- 48:41Speaker 1: figure out, like you know, just to move on and
- 48:44Speaker 1: just you know, just throw myself in into other areas
- 48:47Speaker 1: of my life.
- 48:48Speaker 2: How do you give back to you, like outside of
- 48:52Speaker 2: spending the time with your family.
- 48:53Speaker 3: What are you doing to take care of Kira.
- 48:57Speaker 1: You know, that's such a thoughtful question, and I still
- 49:02Speaker 1: try to answer that with running, like that's that's my
- 49:05Speaker 1: me time, Like that's what I carve out in my
- 49:07Speaker 1: day to take care of myself. And for the most part,
- 49:11Speaker 1: like I run by myself and I listen to whatever
- 49:14Speaker 1: music or whatever podcasts and I'm just kind of alone
- 49:17Speaker 1: with my thoughts and i just have a little bit
- 49:19Speaker 1: of space in my day. So I still look at
- 49:22Speaker 1: running as just I don't know, I'm just grateful for
- 49:26Speaker 1: that space in my life. And I think also that's
- 49:29Speaker 1: why I'm able to put so much into it. It
- 49:32Speaker 1: is because it's such a source, like we talked about
- 49:35Speaker 1: too of joy for me. So yeah, that's that's the
- 49:38Speaker 1: thing that I do for myself.
- 49:40Speaker 2: So when does the hamstring start to feel better with
- 49:43Speaker 2: all of this prehab and rehab in all the things.
- 49:46Speaker 1: Probably in June July, I like build up enough strength
- 49:53Speaker 1: to start being able to build on that workload again.
- 49:56Speaker 1: So I think training resumes like back to almost normal,
- 49:59Speaker 1: and like July August time frame, I think.
- 50:04Speaker 2: How did you feel about the idea of losing your
- 50:07Speaker 2: fitness during that time.
- 50:09Speaker 1: You know, like it's definitely on my mind, and I
- 50:12Speaker 1: cross trained. I did like you know, the indoor the
- 50:16Speaker 1: swimming and like the running the pool running, and man,
- 50:20Speaker 1: it's just I don't like doing that stuff, you know.
- 50:22Speaker 1: So that kind of that kind of stunk. But it
- 50:24Speaker 1: also was just like every day I did that was
- 50:26Speaker 1: just such a reminder to like take care of myself,
- 50:29Speaker 1: Like I don't ever want to be here again. Like
- 50:32Speaker 1: getting in a cold pool is the worst. Sorry to
- 50:36Speaker 1: only swimmers out there. I don't know how you do it,
- 50:38Speaker 1: it's so cold. But so it just was like a
- 50:41Speaker 1: reminder like I don't ever want to be on the
- 50:43Speaker 1: bench again. Like I need to make sure I'm doing
- 50:45Speaker 1: everything in my power to stay healthy so I don't
- 50:48Speaker 1: have to get back here.
- 50:50Speaker 2: Yeah, I got a DM from someone maybe yesterday the
- 50:53Speaker 2: day before, and they were asking me what they should
- 50:56Speaker 2: do because they got COVID and they're supposed to on
- 51:00Speaker 2: a half marathon in three weeks. Like I'm so worried
- 51:02Speaker 2: about losing my fitness, and I said times. She asked
- 51:05Speaker 2: me what should I do, and I said nothing. You
- 51:08Speaker 2: need to give your body rest and you need to
- 51:12Speaker 2: chill because the last thing you need to go doing
- 51:15Speaker 2: is stressing your immune system even more than it already
- 51:19Speaker 2: is trying to navigate COVID, so that by the time
- 51:23Speaker 2: COVID's done, you're exhausted because you've completely beat yourself down.
- 51:26Speaker 2: And she was like, I really needed to hear that.
- 51:28Speaker 2: I understand the stress that not being able to get
- 51:32Speaker 2: what we were talking about before and not being able
- 51:34Speaker 2: to do the thing that you want to do it
- 51:35Speaker 2: puts on you emotionally and physically.
- 51:38Speaker 1: Yeah, and that was such great advice. And I'm glad
- 51:40Speaker 1: that that's what you told her, because no, but like
- 51:43Speaker 1: in coming back, like you know, I lost some fitness,
- 51:46Speaker 1: but I also trusted that, like it's going to take
- 51:49Speaker 1: a little bit to like dust off the cobwebs, but
- 51:51Speaker 1: it's still there. You know, I've been working my tail
- 51:54Speaker 1: off for years. It's not going to go away in
- 51:56Speaker 1: a couple of weeks, right or a couple months or
- 51:58Speaker 1: whatever it was. So, you know, I just trusted, like
- 52:01Speaker 1: in my fitness, and I knew it was going to
- 52:03Speaker 1: take a little bit to like stop being like when
- 52:05Speaker 1: I get back, it just feel awkward, like I just
- 52:06Speaker 1: feel like not everything's like my joints aren't tight enough.
- 52:09Speaker 1: I just feel all noutile. I don't know how to say,
- 52:12Speaker 1: but I just trust that, like it's going to get
- 52:14Speaker 1: back and I need to be patient. Is like my
- 52:17Speaker 1: biggest advice I give is just patience, And it's like
- 52:19Speaker 1: the least sexy advice in the world because we all
- 52:21Speaker 1: want it now. But I was patient, and when I
- 52:23Speaker 1: came back, I didn't try to push my timeline. We
- 52:26Speaker 1: slowly built up and we let things come and you know,
- 52:29Speaker 1: after you know, building up again, we got we I mean,
- 52:32Speaker 1: look where I ended up after like a pretty like
- 52:34Speaker 1: crappy twenty twenty one, Like two twenty twenty two started.
- 52:37Speaker 3: Off all right that first race back.
- 52:40Speaker 2: Let's talk about the Chicago Marathon, because it was really
- 52:43Speaker 2: like us shaking the cobwebs off moment for you. But
- 52:47Speaker 2: from the outside looking in, for individuals who maybe didn't
- 52:50Speaker 2: know your struggle, didn't know that you had really suffered
- 52:54Speaker 2: through the previous months leading up to this build up,
- 52:57Speaker 2: you know, they see what happened there and they were like, oh,
- 52:59Speaker 2: like she really wanted that record, talk me through that
- 53:02Speaker 2: for you.
- 53:03Speaker 1: Yeah, like we knew that build up was shorter. I
- 53:07Speaker 1: knew for my workouts, I wasn't in my best shape ever,
- 53:11Speaker 1: but I knew standing on the start start line it
- 53:14Speaker 1: was gonna be the best I could do that day.
- 53:16Speaker 1: So I was going to fight every mile and just
- 53:18Speaker 1: do the best with what I had. And that's what
- 53:21Speaker 1: I did, and you know, I didn't PR. I finished
- 53:25Speaker 1: fourth overall, which which was awesome. You know, I had
- 53:28Speaker 1: bigger goals initially, but I think just figuring out where
- 53:32Speaker 1: you are and doing the best with that, I mean,
- 53:34Speaker 1: that's really all I could do. But Chicago was really
- 53:37Speaker 1: great for me because I recovered pretty quickly since I
- 53:40Speaker 1: was so early on in that marathon training, I wasn't
- 53:42Speaker 1: physically or mentally fatigue from all the training. So I
- 53:45Speaker 1: feel like that really like springboarded me into like a
- 53:48Speaker 1: really great Yeah, like training training went awesome. After that,
- 53:52Speaker 1: I did the Richmond eight k and ran a course record,
- 53:55Speaker 1: and then I went up to Manchester and did that
- 53:56Speaker 1: road race and that one went really well and my
- 54:00Speaker 1: speed was coming back. I won my first national championship
- 54:04Speaker 1: in the half marathon, which like at thirty seven years old,
- 54:08Speaker 1: like I didn't think I'd ever win a national title,
- 54:10Speaker 1: and at thirty seven winning it, it was so emotional
- 54:13Speaker 1: for me because I just dreamed of being a national
- 54:16Speaker 1: champion and anything since I was like really young, and
- 54:20Speaker 1: to finally get thirty seven, it's just like I'm just
- 54:23Speaker 1: so happy I didn't give up, you know, and to
- 54:26Speaker 1: have like such a beautiful moment. And that's when we
- 54:28Speaker 1: started thinking, like, you know, the marathon fitness is still there,
- 54:31Speaker 1: so maybe if like we put in one more like
- 54:34Speaker 1: month or so of training, like what do you think
- 54:36Speaker 1: we can do in a marathon? So that's when that
- 54:38Speaker 1: whole like I you know, that's when the Houston Marathon
- 54:41Speaker 1: popped up there, like that's the perfect time. We can
- 54:43Speaker 1: get one more like solid month in and then let's
- 54:46Speaker 1: see what happens.
- 54:48Speaker 3: We'll just see what happens.
- 54:49Speaker 1: Let's see what happens.
- 54:51Speaker 3: How is this build up for you? When it comes
- 54:53Speaker 3: to being.
- 54:54Speaker 1: A mom, it's you know, it's a lot of like
- 54:57Speaker 1: mornings and a lot of adjusting, a lot of asking
- 54:59Speaker 1: for how and it's a lot of time away from
- 55:02Speaker 1: like the kids, especially like long runs on Saturday or
- 55:05Speaker 1: Sundays usually kind of like we kind of all relax
- 55:07Speaker 1: and spend time as a family. So it definitely everyone
- 55:10Speaker 1: in my family has It's like we all make sacrifices.
- 55:15Speaker 1: But I give my husband a lot of credit too,
- 55:17Speaker 1: because some days he'll just put everyone in the car
- 55:19Speaker 1: and come try to see if they can find me
- 55:21Speaker 1: while I'm out running and blast Miley Cyrus party in
- 55:25Speaker 1: the USA. Why they drive by and they all have lollipops.
- 55:28Speaker 1: I'm like, why do you got? How are you getting
- 55:29Speaker 1: all that candy?
- 55:30Speaker 3: Man?
- 55:30Speaker 1: But or like they've come to the track and like
- 55:33Speaker 1: root me on. So I'm like, you know, like my
- 55:35Speaker 1: family's been like a really big part of this journey,
- 55:39Speaker 1: and it's been even more fun that we've all been
- 55:41Speaker 1: on the journey together.
- 55:42Speaker 2: Yeah, And like to think about that in like ten
- 55:45Speaker 2: twenty years from now when you all are reflecting on
- 55:49Speaker 2: this time period that your kids are going to be like,
- 55:52Speaker 2: my mom is such a badass and she made so
- 55:55Speaker 2: many beautiful, wonderful sacrifices for our family. It was And
- 56:00Speaker 2: I think that there are probably a couple of different
- 56:02Speaker 2: schools of thought here, but from my POV, it's like, wow,
- 56:06Speaker 2: Like what an awesome opportunity to show your children the
- 56:09Speaker 2: power and beauty of hard work and dedication and going
- 56:12Speaker 2: after what it is. It's truly just a lifelong goal
- 56:15Speaker 2: for you I think that that's what I hope my
- 56:17Speaker 2: kids take from this.
- 56:18Speaker 1: Like I don't if they get into running, great, I
- 56:20Speaker 1: kind of assume they'll find other interests and passions. But
- 56:24Speaker 1: I hope they just see me set a crazy dream
- 56:28Speaker 1: and then work really hard for it, you know, and
- 56:31Speaker 1: to find something they love and carve out that time
- 56:35Speaker 1: in their day to pursue it. And it's just the
- 56:38Speaker 1: fact that I have, Like I love running so much
- 56:42Speaker 1: down to my core. It's just like part of who
- 56:44Speaker 1: I am. I love to run, And like my biggest
- 56:48Speaker 1: wish for my kids is they find their own running
- 56:52Speaker 1: or whatever that is that fulfills them and makes them
- 56:55Speaker 1: happy and gives them a reason to get excited, to
- 56:57Speaker 1: wake up early or just it just yeah, I hope
- 57:01Speaker 1: that they find that, but hopefully just kind of watching me.
- 57:04Speaker 1: You know, if they do find that, they'll know what
- 57:06Speaker 1: to do with it.
- 57:07Speaker 2: What did it mean for you or what did it
- 57:09Speaker 2: feel like to see them on the course sidelines as
- 57:14Speaker 2: you were setting history.
- 57:17Speaker 1: That meant the world to me. And before races, like
- 57:21Speaker 1: I usually travel out on my own and we kind
- 57:24Speaker 1: of isolate in those days leading into the race, and
- 57:28Speaker 1: like we do that because I need to relax. I
- 57:30Speaker 1: need to get into the right mindset. And just like
- 57:33Speaker 1: being being a parent is just like you know, there's
- 57:35Speaker 1: just a mental burden, you know, and I don't I
- 57:38Speaker 1: shouldn't use burden, but it's just mentally it's taxing, right,
- 57:41Speaker 1: Like you're always thinking about have they ate, are they dressed?
- 57:44Speaker 1: You know, do they need to go to the bathroom,
- 57:46Speaker 1: what's next? Are they doing something they shouldn't? Should we
- 57:48Speaker 1: be reading more? You know, it's like you're just constantly
- 57:51Speaker 1: your mind's just always on. So for those couple of
- 57:54Speaker 1: days leading into the race, like I was isolated and
- 57:56Speaker 1: I was relaxed, and I was focusing on just you know,
- 57:59Speaker 1: just trying to stay chill and not like freak out,
- 58:02Speaker 1: I guess. So seeing them after the race, like I
- 58:06Speaker 1: hadn't seen them in a couple of days too, you know,
- 58:08Speaker 1: so it was so special to see them. And like
- 58:10Speaker 1: whenever I'm away for them, like there's a huge amount
- 58:13Speaker 1: of guilt, but it always like fuels me like if
- 58:16Speaker 1: I'm taking this time away from my family, I'm going
- 58:19Speaker 1: to show up. I'm going to work my butt off,
- 58:21Speaker 1: and I'm going to make the most of every single
- 58:23Speaker 1: opportunity Because like time away from my family is a
- 58:27Speaker 1: big sacrifice for me, and I don't really like doing it.
- 58:31Speaker 1: So just kind of even like during the race, thinking
- 58:34Speaker 1: about them, just thinking like we've all worked hard, we've
- 58:37Speaker 1: all sacrificed, Like I'm the one out here running right now,
- 58:41Speaker 1: but this is like a family goal and something that
- 58:44Speaker 1: we've all been working towards, so like I don't want
- 58:46Speaker 1: to let them down, you know. So just finishing and
- 58:50Speaker 1: seeing them was just so great to see them, and
- 58:52Speaker 1: then it just all like just the gravity and the
- 58:55Speaker 1: magnitude of everything. Because for me going into that race,
- 58:59Speaker 1: like my goal was to run five eighteen. It wasn't
- 59:02Speaker 1: to set the American record. Like I couldn't wrap my
- 59:04Speaker 1: head around a goal of that size. Like there's just
- 59:07Speaker 1: no way I could imagine that I could be the
- 59:10Speaker 1: American woman to run the fastest ever. That just makes
- 59:13Speaker 1: zero sense to me. So I was like, Okay, let's
- 59:15Speaker 1: not think about it that way. Just think about you
- 59:17Speaker 1: can run five eighteen. So like after the race, I
- 59:20Speaker 1: was like, good, I met my goal five eighteen, and
- 59:22Speaker 1: then the magnitude of what I just did was coming back.
- 59:25Speaker 1: At the same time, It's like seeing my kids. It
- 59:27Speaker 1: was just a really emotional uh, really emotional the signs.
- 59:31Speaker 3: Can we talk about the signs?
- 59:33Speaker 2: Oh, you just made You just made the face that
- 59:36Speaker 2: I made at the beginning when you told me that
- 59:37Speaker 2: you liked my voice.
- 59:39Speaker 3: You just made like the big like watery lice.
- 59:42Speaker 1: The signs are the best thing in the world. So
- 59:44Speaker 1: my mom had brought just like paper and markers is
- 59:48Speaker 1: a way to just like a fun activity and just said,
- 59:50Speaker 1: you guys can make whatever you want. And so they
- 59:53Speaker 1: both made their own signs. Like she didn't tell them
- 59:55Speaker 1: what to write at all. They both just got creative.
- 59:57Speaker 1: And then like right before like America a long time.
- 1:00:00Speaker 1: So they're standing there with their signs, and so she
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: brought the markers so they could like draw more and
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: just have something to do. And then they started like
- 1:00:08Speaker 1: fighting with each other and drawing on each other signs.
- 1:00:11Speaker 1: So I was like, no, no, no, like don't do that.
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: So they had to like flip mom over and make
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: new signs. But I think like my son's sign it
- 1:00:17Speaker 1: said you're number one in my heart, and that is
- 1:00:20Speaker 1: just so powerful that like he didn't care if I
- 1:00:23Speaker 1: won or lost, like and that is so freeing, you know,
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: like this doesn't like the running doesn't matter to my
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: family and to like he just I'm number one to him.
- 1:00:32Speaker 2: You know.
- 1:00:32Speaker 1: I didn't even have to finish the race and I'd
- 1:00:34Speaker 1: still be number one to him. And I think just
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: like that support and like unconditional love just really like
- 1:00:40Speaker 1: allows me to take a risk and you know, shoot
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: for the stars and everything.
- 1:00:44Speaker 2: Yeah, and especially when they're young, Like the most important
- 1:00:47Speaker 2: thing is that they want you to be happy. So
- 1:00:49Speaker 2: to see you happy, and your perspective like aids in that,
- 1:00:53Speaker 2: right because knowing that I get to do this, this
- 1:00:56Speaker 2: is the thing that I'm going to show up to
- 1:00:57Speaker 2: do today, and it could go really well or it
- 1:00:59Speaker 2: could not go well, but at the end, I'm still
- 1:01:01Speaker 2: me and that's what's important. That perspective is what keeps
- 1:01:04Speaker 2: you happy and what keeps your runs like and this
- 1:01:07Speaker 2: career for you so joyous.
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: Yeah, and it keeps me grounded, right because when things
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: don't go well, like, I still love my family, you know,
- 1:01:15Speaker 1: and as long as my family's like happy and healthy,
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: like that's like the top priority. So I just I
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: think it just I don't know, it's just again that
- 1:01:23Speaker 1: whole big balance thing that just kind of just keeps
- 1:01:27Speaker 1: everything together.
- 1:01:28Speaker 2: A whole big balance thing. Okay, Kira, question for you now.
- 1:01:32Speaker 2: Right now, someone comes to your Instagram page and they
- 1:01:35Speaker 2: see pro Runner for Nike and Flint Sports Marathon American
- 1:01:40Speaker 2: Record two nineteen twelve.
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: A pro woman's temile world record. I love the words
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: world record.
- 1:01:47Speaker 1: It's just like awesome.
- 1:01:48Speaker 2: When you look in the mirror, What is it that
- 1:01:50Speaker 2: you see looking back at you.
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: I don't know, like I see me, like all of me,
- 1:01:56Speaker 1: you know, I like separate me from running a lot
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: of time. So even on my run today, I was thinking,
- 1:02:02Speaker 1: like I started thinking about that race and it just
- 1:02:05Speaker 1: makes me laugh a little bit because it feels I
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: don't know, like I know it's part of me, but
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: it's not. I can't even describe it. But it's just
- 1:02:12Speaker 1: like I don't know it just I still it hasn't
- 1:02:16Speaker 1: sunk in. I guess that's what I'm trying to say.
- 1:02:18Speaker 1: I still can't wrap my head around it. Like I've
- 1:02:21Speaker 1: put in the work and I knew I was fit
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: to run that time, but just like just everything other
- 1:02:26Speaker 1: than that, I just I don't know. It doesn't it
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: hasn't sunk in. But yeah, I don't know. I just
- 1:02:32Speaker 1: see Kira like the just kind of goofy, silly, like
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: fun loving Kira, I guess.
- 1:02:39Speaker 3: And also to provide some contexts.
- 1:02:41Speaker 2: I didn't mean to like skip past some of the
- 1:02:43Speaker 2: highlights of this effort for you, but it did truly
- 1:02:45Speaker 2: feel like an effort for you. Like it wasn't just
- 1:02:48Speaker 2: one of those days where everything clicked and you were
- 1:02:50Speaker 2: in flow state and it was like a magical two
- 1:02:52Speaker 2: hours and nineteen minutes like that.
- 1:02:55Speaker 3: It was a battle.
- 1:02:57Speaker 1: Yeah, I was really hoping it was going to be
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: that magical flow state, but it wasn't. But it made
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: me even more proud when I was done, because there's
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: so many times during the race where I thought maybe
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: this wouldn't happen, or maybe I can't go any further.
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: There was just doubts, right, and I like insecurities popped up,
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: and it's like, I don't know if I can do this.
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: So to be able to figure out how to work
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: through all that and just I mean everything hurt my
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: like my body hurt like and so to be able
- 1:03:26Speaker 1: to push through that like made it even more special
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: because it wasn't easy. And I think that also represents
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: like my whole path with running, like it was never
- 1:03:35Speaker 1: really easy. You know, It's been a whole lot of
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: fun and I've enjoyed just the hell out of the ride.
- 1:03:41Speaker 1: But it's been you know, it's taken me thirty seven
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: years to have a moment like that, which which I
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: wouldn't do it any differently because I just, you know,
- 1:03:48Speaker 1: appreciate my journey and how hard I've worked, and it's yeah,
- 1:03:51Speaker 1: I've been one heck of.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: A ride, one hell of a ride. So when you
- 1:03:54Speaker 2: think about what's next, I mean, what comes next after
- 1:03:57Speaker 2: that kind of accomplishment.
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: I think for me to take the pressure off of
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: that singular day, I've been thinking about what's next, you know.
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: So I knew for these goals to compete on a
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: world stage or to compete like and do great against
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: international women like this was a stepping stone to get there.
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: So for me, like I'd like to represent the US
- 1:04:21Speaker 1: this summer in the World Championships. They're in US for
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: the first time ever. So I'll be switching over and
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: just trying to find some speed and training for the
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: ten k on the track, and then next fall I'll
- 1:04:32Speaker 1: find another marathon and I'm going to try to Yeah,
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: we'll see, I haven't picked that marathon yet. But I
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: have a feeling if I don't break that record again,
- 1:04:42Speaker 1: some other women are going to break it before me.
- 1:04:43Speaker 1: So I gotta I gotta lower that if I want
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: to hold on to it any longer.
- 1:04:47Speaker 2: Oh my gosh, other women are going to break it.
- 1:04:49Speaker 2: I mean, it took so long for this to happen
- 1:04:51Speaker 2: the first time.
- 1:04:52Speaker 3: I'm not ready.
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: You serve to hold on to it for longer than
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: just a short time.
- 1:04:58Speaker 1: But here's the thing. Even when it's broken, I'll be
- 1:05:00Speaker 1: the former American record holder. And that's pretty awesome too.
- 1:05:03Speaker 1: I'm okay with that, so that's fine.
- 1:05:06Speaker 3: Perspective is just mind blowing.
- 1:05:09Speaker 1: Yeah, and my Instagram bio is not going to change
- 1:05:12Speaker 1: instead of American record I'll just put former American record holders.
- 1:05:15Speaker 1: That'll be fine. So whenever that day happens, I'll be
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: rooting form.
- 1:05:19Speaker 3: Oh my god, I love it.
- 1:05:20Speaker 2: I love just like your entire energy, and I'm so
- 1:05:24Speaker 2: happy for you. It's you know, it's it's always no
- 1:05:27Speaker 2: matter who does it. Like, feats like this are truly
- 1:05:30Speaker 2: just superhuman. But to talk to someone who just has
- 1:05:33Speaker 2: such like a beautiful perspective about her sport and her
- 1:05:37Speaker 2: journey and your passion just literally radiates through the microphone.
- 1:05:42Speaker 2: So I'm just I'm I'm truly amp for you, and
- 1:05:44Speaker 2: I'm so excited that we had this opportunity to kind
- 1:05:48Speaker 2: of rap about all of this awesomeness.
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: Yeah, this is really fun. Thanks for having me on
- 1:05:53Speaker 1: and just giving me like a space to share my story.
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: And yeah, are we best friends now? I think just
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: became best friends.
- 1:06:01Speaker 3: We just speaking best friends.
- 1:06:02Speaker 2: You're not done yet, you need to you need to
- 1:06:05Speaker 2: give us one more little nugget of wisdom. Okay, wait, no, no,
- 1:06:10Speaker 2: I'm going to ask you a question.
- 1:06:12Speaker 1: I was like, oh, that's the only thing that's pretty broad. Okay, wisdom,
- 1:06:15Speaker 1: all right, here we go. Let's take a wisdom. Here
- 1:06:17Speaker 1: we go.
- 1:06:18Speaker 2: Okay, okay, final question, Kira. Right now you have an opportunity. Wow,
- 1:06:23Speaker 2: you had two pretty distinct hurdle moments, I would say,
- 1:06:26Speaker 2: but let's bring it back.
- 1:06:27Speaker 3: I want to bring it back to the more recent one.
- 1:06:29Speaker 2: Right now, you have an opportunity to offer the Kira
- 1:06:33Speaker 2: who has to uh take a back seat during the
- 1:06:38Speaker 2: US Olympic trials and put off her dream and and
- 1:06:42Speaker 2: kind of question like, what happens now?
- 1:06:44Speaker 3: What happens next?
- 1:06:45Speaker 2: Do you have an opportunity to offer that woman a
- 1:06:48Speaker 2: piece of advice. Looking back on that, now, what do
- 1:06:52Speaker 2: you tell her.
- 1:06:54Speaker 1: Like, don't give up, Like, don't let this rock you.
- 1:06:56Speaker 1: This is just like a minor blip. This is going
- 1:07:00Speaker 1: to be such a small thing when you look at
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: like just the whole big picture, right, so just like
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: keep your head up, it's gonna be okay, Like, hang
- 1:07:10Speaker 1: in there, you still got this. But I think with
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: any like failure or injury, you just it's so scary
- 1:07:15Speaker 1: because you're wondering if that's you, Like is this over?
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: Is this dream over?
- 1:07:19Speaker 2: Like?
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: Do I need to mourn these goals again? Like a
- 1:07:22Speaker 1: coming up short? So I think just believing that like
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: this too will pass, Like if I'm just patient, it's
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: like the dreams aren't over, they're just deferred. So hang
- 1:07:32Speaker 1: in there, you got this. Do you know your Oreo challenges?
- 1:07:36Speaker 1: Fill your life with other fun things right now? Distract
- 1:07:39Speaker 1: and uh, you're gonna get back and be better than ever.
- 1:07:42Speaker 2: What Oreo challenge do I need to be doing once
- 1:07:44Speaker 2: I get off this podcast?
- 1:07:46Speaker 3: So?
- 1:07:47Speaker 1: What is your favorite Oreo flavor? Have you ever thought
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: to think they have like dozens and dozens of Oreo flavors.
- 1:07:54Speaker 1: So what my family did one time is we bought
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: like all the flavors and did like a big Oreo
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: Madness challenge to figure out what in fact is the
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: best Oreo flavor. So I have the answer. I have
- 1:08:03Speaker 1: the Demato answer at least, but I encourage everyone to
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: buy all the oreos and figure out what is their
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: favorite flavor.
- 1:08:10Speaker 3: Can you adopt me? Yeah?
- 1:08:13Speaker 1: We actually we are accepting applications into our family. It's
- 1:08:17Speaker 1: very inclusive pretty much. If you're a kind person, you're in.
- 1:08:20Speaker 1: So yeah, I'll put I'll send you. I'll send you
- 1:08:22Speaker 1: an application.
- 1:08:23Speaker 3: Uh wait, so what's your what's the dematto Oreo flavor?
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: So it came down to mint versus golden, which is crazy.
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: I really thought double stuffed was going to be up there.
- 1:08:33Speaker 1: Meant versus gold Golden is delicious. I like, I thought
- 1:08:37Speaker 1: they weren't even gonna make it out of the first round.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: It was really good, but we did rounds. We put
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: it in. It's like an NCAA Matt Mars Madness bracket.
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: We were talking, we took this really really. I put
- 1:08:50Speaker 1: them all up. You'll have to go on my Instagram
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: and my stories, and I think you're gonna have the
- 1:08:53Speaker 1: school back because now we've done all their things and we.
- 1:08:56Speaker 2: Know it now that you're telling me about this, I
- 1:08:58Speaker 2: definitely remember the brackets. But this is did they sell
- 1:09:01Speaker 2: all the varieties at your local grocery store?
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: They did? Yeah, they had, well they had most of them,
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: so I picked. I think at the time we only
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: did eight, which I got a lot of feedback later
- 1:09:10Speaker 1: that we didn't include like lemon and some other things.
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: So I think we're gonna have to do like a
- 1:09:15Speaker 1: whole new racket challenge and we'll put even more in there.
- 1:09:19Speaker 1: But yeah, Mitt ended up taking the w home. So
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: mint in the Dematto household is the best OREO.
- 1:09:26Speaker 2: Oh my god, the next time you were in New York,
- 1:09:28Speaker 2: I'm about to take you to some places to have
- 1:09:31Speaker 2: your mind blown.
- 1:09:32Speaker 3: Cookie Challenge twenty twenty two on DAK I promise you.
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: Yes, hashtag best friends take New York.
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: Let's go.
- 1:09:40Speaker 2: Kira, so grateful for you. How do the hurdlers follow
- 1:09:43Speaker 2: along with you? How do they keep up with you?
- 1:09:45Speaker 2: Give us all your details?
- 1:09:47Speaker 1: So I'm on Instagram is probably where I'm most active
- 1:09:51Speaker 1: at Kira Dematto and Kira's k E I R I
- 1:09:54Speaker 1: think you'll find me either way, but I break that
- 1:09:58Speaker 1: spelling rule, so I think it's a little confusing the
- 1:10:00Speaker 1: eye before you accept after see. Yeah, So I'm on
- 1:10:02Speaker 1: Instagram a month Strava. I love Strava, and it's so
- 1:10:06Speaker 1: like I started getting in to Distrava before I started
- 1:10:08Speaker 1: running competitively, so like my whole journey is up there
- 1:10:12Speaker 1: so you can see the progress. And I love Strava
- 1:10:15Speaker 1: for me because I was getting like kudos and I
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: was connected to a running community even though I was
- 1:10:21Speaker 1: running totally alone. So all of a sudden, I felt
- 1:10:23Speaker 1: like I felt kind of like a lone wolf, and
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: now I just have this whole running community of people
- 1:10:27Speaker 1: give me kudos or holding me accountable. So I really
- 1:10:30Speaker 1: love Strava as just like a social media But I'm
- 1:10:34Speaker 1: on Twitter, Cure Tomato. I run around a lot, so
- 1:10:39Speaker 1: you've probably seen me running through your neighborhoods. It just
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: just you can just wave to me too or honk.
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I'm cool with that. So uh yeah, I think that's it.
- 1:10:46Speaker 1: I think those are all the ways Strava's people.
- 1:10:49Speaker 2: You can feel free to email Hello at hurdle dot
- 1:10:51Speaker 2: us to license that clip for your next marketing campaign.
- 1:10:55Speaker 2: I am over at Hurdle podcast and at Emily Abadi
- 1:10:59Speaker 2: another heard, well conquered.
