- 0:20Speaker 1: I am my cool Eyd from ras Ball, joined as
- 0:22Speaker 1: always by my very good friend Jeremy Burr, also from
- 0:25Speaker 1: as well.
- 0:26Speaker 2: How are you doing tonight, buddy.
- 0:28Speaker 3: I am doing well. Ready to go, excited to talk
- 0:32Speaker 3: Bowman Tonight's been a while since we've done a deep dive.
- 0:35Speaker 3: Bowman is here. Hopefully you got a few boxes.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I know you did, right, I wish and so that's fanatics,
- 0:43Speaker 1: but yes, it will be if you were out there
- 0:45Speaker 1: and you had marked in your calendar from last year
- 0:48Speaker 1: the Player of the Month PC show that would line
- 0:53Speaker 1: up every year every month after those players came out.
- 0:56Speaker 1: We are doing Bowman this week, so we are saving
- 0:58Speaker 1: the Player of the Month for next week. If you
- 1:00Speaker 1: have suggestions, we'll take them. You can reach out to
- 1:02Speaker 1: us at Cards Categories at gmail dot com, or reach
- 1:06Speaker 1: us on socials at Cards Categories, mostly on Blue Sky.
- 1:10Speaker 1: Please just reach myn Blue Sky will be much easier.
- 1:12Speaker 1: And so yeah, if you've got cards that you want
- 1:15Speaker 1: us to put in the PC, reach out to us.
- 1:17Speaker 1: Let us know. But this week we're going to cover
- 1:19Speaker 1: Bowman twenty twenty five. It's released two day as we're
- 1:23Speaker 1: talking on May seventh, and it is significant in a
- 1:27Speaker 1: couple of ways. We've got some pretty big names in
- 1:30Speaker 1: the product. We've going to go into a little bit
- 1:32Speaker 1: more of the buyback program that we covered last week
- 1:35Speaker 1: in episode eighty nine, So check that out if you're
- 1:37Speaker 1: looking for more details on that Bowman Red RC buyback program.
- 1:42Speaker 1: But it's also extremely expensive that this is a very
- 1:46Speaker 1: packed product. Just wait till you see the parallel list,
- 1:50Speaker 1: because we want to have to flip a coin to
- 1:52Speaker 1: see who's going to lose their breath over running all
- 1:55Speaker 1: those off. But before we do that, let's get into
- 1:58Speaker 1: some fantasy news and notes that are affecting all our
- 2:00Speaker 1: teams out there, and so pretty big pile of just
- 2:06Speaker 1: rough news injury wise this week, but let's start with
- 2:09Speaker 1: maybe some of the positive stuff. So we had two
- 2:12Speaker 1: relatively significant call ups that happened this week. First in Baltimore,
- 2:15Speaker 1: Kobe Mayo got promoted when Ramon Urias hit the IL
- 2:19Speaker 1: and so he has been up and it's been a
- 2:22Speaker 1: rough go over. I mean it's only been three games,
- 2:24Speaker 1: but still yet to get a hit, and honestly, Mayo
- 2:27Speaker 1: was a little less sharp and Triple A before he
- 2:30Speaker 1: got the call up this year was just slashing two
- 2:32Speaker 1: fifty two, three forty six five twenty three for a
- 2:35Speaker 1: one point thirty one WRC plus and triple A. That's
- 2:38Speaker 1: lower than what he had posted last year and matches
- 2:42Speaker 1: what he did in twenty twenty.
- 2:43Speaker 3: Three at that level.
- 2:45Speaker 1: The other call up we have is Hayesan kim in
- 2:48Speaker 1: La coming up as Tommy Edmund was placed on the
- 2:51Speaker 1: injured list with right ankle inflammation, which I don't think.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Is going to be too significant. We've pumped up Tommy
- 2:58Speaker 2: Edmund a lot.
- 2:58Speaker 1: What do you think I'm I almost think that the
- 3:01Speaker 1: Dodgers are gonna start cycling minor injuries through the injured
- 3:04Speaker 1: list because they're so loaded.
- 3:05Speaker 2: What do you are you in agreement there?
- 3:08Speaker 3: Yeah? I definitely am like Edmund. You know, if they
- 3:10Speaker 3: there's been reports that he might back this weekend, I
- 3:12Speaker 3: think it's probably be a little bit longer than that.
- 3:14Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, like, I don't
- 3:15Speaker 3: think it's anything too significant. He was off to quite
- 3:18Speaker 3: the quite the start this year. You know, hitting two
- 3:20Speaker 3: fifty two eight homers twenty four RBIs like who thought
- 3:23Speaker 3: Edmund was a RBI machine? But he's been absolutely phenomenal.
- 3:27Speaker 3: So they're gonna make sure he's fully healthy and go
- 3:29Speaker 3: from there. And Kim's kind of gonna keep it the
- 3:31Speaker 3: spot warm. But I think you're right, they're gonna be really,
- 3:33Speaker 3: really careful. First time team to twenty five wins so
- 3:36Speaker 3: far this year. They're going to try to, you know,
- 3:39Speaker 3: keep the momentum going, especially with that offense. So no
- 3:44Speaker 3: reason to rush anybody back, recognizing their their pitching staff's
- 3:49Speaker 3: gonna have to be healthy. It's not the offense we
- 3:51Speaker 3: have to worry about. For LA eight. Is the pitching
- 3:53Speaker 3: staff so interesting to see when Edmund gets back. So
- 3:57Speaker 3: Kim is you know, worth worth watching. And I'm not
- 4:00Speaker 3: running out to do anything with him at this point
- 4:03Speaker 3: unless I need steals. If I need steels, then I'm
- 4:07Speaker 3: definitely playing in that ball game. That's said, I'm curious
- 4:11Speaker 3: to your thoughts on Mayo. I'm really really torn on
- 4:13Speaker 3: Kobe Mayo because, like, if you look at the stat
- 4:16Speaker 3: line and the like the metrics, it looks like this
- 4:19Speaker 3: is a valuable player we should be investing here, we
- 4:21Speaker 3: should be picking up right and left. And then you
- 4:24Speaker 3: look at the treatment of the orioles of Kobe Mayo,
- 4:26Speaker 3: and I'm like, what am I missing? Like they don't
- 4:29Speaker 3: seem to have any confidence in him, So like, are
- 4:31Speaker 3: you buying Kobe Mayo at this point?
- 4:34Speaker 2: No, I'm not in on Mayo.
- 4:36Speaker 1: And partly it is because like the projections I think
- 4:39Speaker 1: has picked up some of the skepticism that maybe Baltimore's
- 4:43Speaker 1: kind of showing with this kind of constant tucking Kobe
- 4:46Speaker 1: Mayo back and not bringing him up. In kind of
- 4:49Speaker 1: part of it too is I mean they don't have
- 4:51Speaker 1: a really great position for him in terms of like
- 4:55Speaker 1: he's not a great fielder, I don't think, And so like,
- 4:59Speaker 1: do you really want to user DH spot on a
- 5:01Speaker 1: twenty three year old that's coming up and being a rookie.
- 5:04Speaker 1: That's a tough way to break into the majors unless,
- 5:06Speaker 1: like you are just like a really phenomenal professional hitter,
- 5:11Speaker 1: which I don't think he is, Like I think he's
- 5:13Speaker 1: a tick above league average.
- 5:14Speaker 2: That like it reminds me a little.
- 5:16Speaker 1: Bit of like Ryan Mountcastle, where like the hype coming
- 5:20Speaker 1: through the system I think outstripped the actual skills and
- 5:24Speaker 1: then once you kind of started seeing it all come together,
- 5:26Speaker 1: you're like, oh, this dude, he's solid, But he's not
- 5:29Speaker 1: anything special as a corner bat. So I mean, what
- 5:33Speaker 1: do you think you're the top one hundred hitter guy here, Like,
- 5:36Speaker 1: do you think that Mayo is in that bucket or
- 5:39Speaker 1: do you think there is still a chance that he
- 5:41Speaker 1: can get back to being that kind of thirty five
- 5:44Speaker 1: plus homer bat.
- 5:46Speaker 3: I mean, I'm always to give somebody with the pedigree
- 5:49Speaker 3: a chance, because there's it's always tough in the miners.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Sometimes these guys have really all the skills in the world.
- 5:56Speaker 3: They're always constantly tinkering, working on things, and it's hard
- 5:59Speaker 3: to really see the stat lite come through. But generally
- 6:03Speaker 3: because of the way that the Orioles have have handled him,
- 6:07Speaker 3: you know, he just seems to be so far down
- 6:09Speaker 3: the pecking order of all of these guys, and they're
- 6:14Speaker 3: you know, they have been a little more cautious with guys,
- 6:16Speaker 3: even like Jackson Holiday, they were they were more cautious
- 6:18Speaker 3: with but Mayo just never seemed to be in their plans.
- 6:23Speaker 3: And there's been the opportunity, to your point, fielding, Like,
- 6:27Speaker 3: he's not a good fielder, so it is really hard
- 6:29Speaker 3: to find a spot for him, But I'm I'm willing
- 6:32Speaker 3: to give him a pick up in most leagues, twelve teams,
- 6:34Speaker 3: fourteen teams. I'm willing to give a bench pick up
- 6:36Speaker 3: if I've got something that that's expendable. But I don't
- 6:40Speaker 3: have extremely high hopes just because I think the Orioles
- 6:43Speaker 3: are gonna bat them at the bottom of the order
- 6:45Speaker 3: and they're gonna wait for something to happen, and if
- 6:47Speaker 3: it doesn't come through, like I feel like they're just
- 6:49Speaker 3: gonna send them down again, which is which is frustrating.
- 6:52Speaker 3: He's the you know who reminds me of Gavin Lux here,
- 6:55Speaker 3: that's the guy he reminds me of. Is a guy
- 6:58Speaker 3: that had really great pedigree, did things in the minors,
- 7:00Speaker 3: and then he got up there and the team just
- 7:02Speaker 3: didn't want to give him a chance and he doesn't
- 7:05Speaker 3: seem to produce. Still had talent, and now lux is
- 7:09Speaker 3: in Cincinnati and actually doing decent. It feels like Mayo
- 7:12Speaker 3: is just like not gonna get his footing with with Baltimore.
- 7:16Speaker 1: Yeah, I agree, And as an Orioles pan it's gotta
- 7:18Speaker 1: be absolutely frustrating because it's like, you go, should trade
- 7:21Speaker 1: this guy two years ago if you saw him being
- 7:23Speaker 1: this that like he should have been dealt for Dylan cee,
- 7:26Speaker 1: Sir Greg Garrett Crochet like Richards.
- 7:31Speaker 3: Yeah, sorry, sorry fans.
- 7:33Speaker 1: Uh, It's it's tough that like, yeah, if you're not
- 7:37Speaker 1: gonna actually develop these guys into the superstar that you
- 7:40Speaker 1: think they are, then you got to move them while
- 7:42Speaker 1: they're at their peak value.
- 7:43Speaker 2: So it's like just a double whammy there in Baltimore.
- 7:46Speaker 3: Yeah, at the end of the day, they're gonna bring
- 7:48Speaker 3: Westburg back. Cow's are back. Like he he doesn't have
- 7:51Speaker 3: a spot. He doesn't have a spot for very long.
- 7:53Speaker 1: So I mean he's behind Ramona or Yes. I think
- 7:55Speaker 1: that kind of tells you everything, right, it does.
- 8:00Speaker 2: Okay, well let's move in. Well, I mean that was
- 8:02Speaker 2: supposed to be the fun part.
- 8:03Speaker 1: So now let's really drag ourselves into the depths with
- 8:06Speaker 1: some injuries, because we had some pretty big ones this
- 8:09Speaker 1: week in terms of not only length of injuries, but
- 8:11Speaker 1: also the talent that's involved.
- 8:13Speaker 2: In these injuries.
- 8:14Speaker 1: So first one, I think it's probably the most impactful
- 8:18Speaker 1: if you were relying on him coming into the season
- 8:21Speaker 1: and had used a pretty high draft pick on him.
- 8:24Speaker 1: That is Jazz Chishlm of the New York Yankees, who
- 8:27Speaker 1: is down with what Aaron Brun's calling a high grade
- 8:30Speaker 1: oblique strain. That doesn't give you any confidence because that
- 8:35Speaker 1: means it's a grade three. He just doesn't want to
- 8:37Speaker 1: say it's a grade three that's gonna put you at
- 8:39Speaker 1: Probably they're saying four to six weeks. I would honestly
- 8:42Speaker 1: guess six to eight weeks for Jazz, if not more.
- 8:45Speaker 1: Considering how kind of facetious the Yankees are being about
- 8:49Speaker 1: this oblique injury, it does give my pick to click
- 8:53Speaker 1: a shot to shine here in the Bronx with the orbit,
- 8:56Speaker 1: vivis coming up and taking Jazz Chisholm's spot. He's been
- 9:00Speaker 1: struggling a little bit, but did look good in Triple
- 9:03Speaker 1: A before he was called out. Vivus was slashing three
- 9:06Speaker 1: nineteen four to twenty six four thirty six. That's a
- 9:09Speaker 1: one forty WRC plus and triple A with two homers
- 9:12Speaker 1: and six stolen bases. I'm in line probably, I think, though,
- 9:16Speaker 1: with kind of where the projections are there, rounded like
- 9:20Speaker 1: a two forty ish hitter, not too much pop, a
- 9:22Speaker 1: little bit of speed, kind of like an ale only guy.
- 9:24Speaker 1: But what I do like is this for Vivs is
- 9:26Speaker 1: if you're in like a dynasty keeper situation gives him
- 9:30Speaker 1: a taste.
- 9:31Speaker 2: So what are you doing here with Jazz?
- 9:34Speaker 1: Like I said, like, this is not a fun injury
- 9:37Speaker 1: to try to deal with as a fantasy owner and
- 9:40Speaker 1: kind of roster manager that like these high grade oblique
- 9:44Speaker 1: strains just never seem to turn out.
- 9:46Speaker 2: Well.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean if I soa Bucks for a moment,
- 9:51Speaker 3: if you were shocked as a Jazz owner, that's on you.
- 9:55Speaker 3: Like this, this is exactly what we talk about the
- 9:57Speaker 3: off season of drafting Jazz some like he had a
- 10:01Speaker 3: healthy year last year and he looked really good and
- 10:03Speaker 3: you know, speed power combo for coming to the Bronx
- 10:07Speaker 3: the bright lights, like and I think it's this is
- 10:10Speaker 3: just who he is. He's gonna get hurt and you
- 10:13Speaker 3: have to plan for that if you spent a really
- 10:15Speaker 3: high draft pick on him, Like, if you didn't think
- 10:19Speaker 3: he was gonna get hurt, that's on you. So I
- 10:22Speaker 3: just like that soap bux. But like this is like
- 10:24Speaker 3: we said, what what are we surprised? No, this is
- 10:26Speaker 3: just jazz chism, Like this is what you bake into
- 10:28Speaker 3: the price of this guy, and then you plan to
- 10:31Speaker 3: have a decent back up so when it happens and uh,
- 10:34Speaker 3: maybe a high grade oblique. I mean, I don't remember
- 10:37Speaker 3: the last time that somebody actually called an oblique a
- 10:39Speaker 3: high grade injury.
- 10:41Speaker 2: Really tuck them like that.
- 10:43Speaker 3: That one's that's rough. You know. We could talk about
- 10:46Speaker 3: Jesse Winker getting an oblique injury, which is a lower grade.
- 10:50Speaker 3: But yeah, I'm there's nothing you can do with Jazz.
- 10:55Speaker 3: You hold him like. I think he's gonna be out
- 10:57Speaker 3: two three months with this one. I really really do.
- 11:00Speaker 3: And so maybe if somebody is looking to buy low,
- 11:02Speaker 3: I'm willing to see as some of these things that
- 11:05Speaker 3: it might be a short term thing and capitalize on it.
- 11:09Speaker 3: I'm not terribly interested in Vivas as far as kind
- 11:12Speaker 3: of as you said, but he does kind of remind
- 11:13Speaker 3: me of Been Rice to a small degree, guy that
- 11:16Speaker 3: had really good plate control, kind of had a mixture
- 11:21Speaker 3: of some power, not as much as speed with Rice,
- 11:23Speaker 3: a little more speed for view us, but just was
- 11:26Speaker 3: like really intriguing the miners. Just like as the Yankees
- 11:28Speaker 3: give him a shot. I don't think he's the level
- 11:30Speaker 3: of Rice by any means, Like Rice was just incredibly
- 11:33Speaker 3: extracted coming up, but he does he does feel that
- 11:36Speaker 3: same like I want to see them give him a chance.
- 11:40Speaker 3: Definitely more on a watch list than anything for me
- 11:42Speaker 3: right now. So kind of a down all around here
- 11:47Speaker 3: from me on the analysis, but it is what it
- 11:50Speaker 3: is with Jazz.
- 11:51Speaker 2: You knew this was coming, Yeah, yeah, I think that's
- 11:54Speaker 2: that's true.
- 11:55Speaker 1: Okay, Let's move on to our next significant injury because
- 11:57Speaker 1: this one is a season ender in Boston. Tris Casas
- 12:00Speaker 1: really nasty looking injury as he had to be carted
- 12:03Speaker 1: off after slipping on first base running out a grounder
- 12:07Speaker 1: and blew out his pateller tendon in his left knee,
- 12:10Speaker 1: underwent surgery out for the season, and I mean, he
- 12:14Speaker 1: wasn't great when he was in. Through his one hundred
- 12:16Speaker 1: and twelve played appearances before he went down, slash just
- 12:19Speaker 1: one eighty two two seventy seven three oho three. That's
- 12:22Speaker 1: a fifty eight WRC plus. He was pretty much being platooned.
- 12:27Speaker 1: He wasn't really playing against lefties, and even there, like
- 12:31Speaker 1: the playing time was starting to be clawed back in
- 12:33Speaker 1: Boston because.
- 12:34Speaker 2: He just wasn't impacting the ball either.
- 12:36Speaker 1: You know, this is a guy who previously in twenty
- 12:39Speaker 1: three and twenty four put up like a thirteen percent
- 12:41Speaker 1: barrel rate, couldn't crack double digits here in twenty twenty five.
- 12:46Speaker 1: I'm torn on this cause, like, on one hand, I
- 12:49Speaker 1: think the rib injury from last year was still affecting Cassas,
- 12:53Speaker 1: because if you recall in twenty four, he was down
- 12:56Speaker 1: for a significant length of time because he essentially like
- 12:59Speaker 1: ripped his ribbed page of part on a giant swing,
- 13:02Speaker 1: and I think he was either feeling the ill effects
- 13:05Speaker 1: of that or afraid of reinjuring it goes down with
- 13:09Speaker 1: this knee injury. I can't tell if like I'm back
- 13:13Speaker 1: in because he gets the entire year to kind of
- 13:15Speaker 1: like reset and mend both body parts, or if I'm
- 13:19Speaker 1: totally out that, like we've lost the prime years of
- 13:22Speaker 1: Tristan Kashus, who's twenty five, and I don't foresee a
- 13:26Speaker 1: bounce back. Which side of the pendulum are you on?
- 13:30Speaker 3: I'm probably on the negative side here with Kasus, Like
- 13:34Speaker 3: I'm I'm really worried for a guy that struggled for
- 13:36Speaker 3: the last year to have another year off, and it's
- 13:40Speaker 3: this isn't something that you can like be you know,
- 13:43Speaker 3: taking dry swings or keeping your conditioning up. Like he's
- 13:47Speaker 3: gonna be on his back for a while. He's not
- 13:51Speaker 3: gonna be up and moving, and like there's a small
- 13:55Speaker 3: part of me I don't think this will come to fruition,
- 13:57Speaker 3: but like he's our eligible this offseason for the first time.
- 14:00Speaker 3: Like there's gonna be at least a small non tender
- 14:03Speaker 3: conversation about Tristan Cosas this offseason. I don't think they
- 14:07Speaker 3: can do that because there's too much invested in him,
- 14:10Speaker 3: too much potential there. But you know, they it's gonna
- 14:13Speaker 3: be now basically two full seasons that they have not
- 14:17Speaker 3: gotten much from him, and he was supposed to be
- 14:20Speaker 3: the first basement in the future all these things, and
- 14:23Speaker 3: they've got to find a different solution. So I think
- 14:27Speaker 3: this is really really unfortunate news for him. He was
- 14:31Speaker 3: was absolutely struggling, you know, w RC plus fifty eight.
- 14:35Speaker 3: That's not what you want from any of your starters
- 14:37Speaker 3: by by any means. But I think it's gonna be
- 14:40Speaker 3: a long, long road back from him, and I think
- 14:43Speaker 3: he's gonna I don't think he's gonn get non tender,
- 14:45Speaker 3: but I think he's gonna be fighting for a spot
- 14:49Speaker 3: next spring, trying to prove himself. And I think this
- 14:53Speaker 3: injury is really going to you know, Zapp, this year's gone,
- 14:56Speaker 3: and I think it's gonna zapple a lot of next
- 14:57Speaker 3: year as well.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think I that way too.
- 15:00Speaker 1: That like, I think you can try to tell yourself
- 15:03Speaker 1: an upside story for Kassas, but more often than not,
- 15:06Speaker 1: you see this go the other way.
- 15:07Speaker 3: So it'd do one thing if he was if it's
- 15:10Speaker 3: like another guy we're gonna talk about just a second here,
- 15:13Speaker 3: if he was going crazy and like killing the ball
- 15:17Speaker 3: and this just was a you know, bumbler over to
- 15:19Speaker 3: deal with, but all the other metrics are there, I'd
- 15:21Speaker 3: be I'd be incredibly interested it. This is like it
- 15:24Speaker 3: doubles down the on the struggles versus you know, puts
- 15:28Speaker 3: a pause to the breakout.
- 15:31Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair. Okay, well let's get
- 15:34Speaker 1: into our annual Mike Trout injury update, because just kind
- 15:38Speaker 1: of like Jazz, if you didn't see this one coming,
- 15:40Speaker 1: didn't prepare for it, I don't know who to blame
- 15:43Speaker 1: but you, because like I think we knew this was
- 15:46Speaker 1: coming in terms of like the double meniscus surgery that
- 15:50Speaker 1: he had last year, and he is now on the
- 15:53Speaker 1: I L with a knee bone bruise, which I mean,
- 15:56Speaker 1: this is just it was looking up for the Angels
- 15:59Speaker 1: when we were talking back on like April tenth, they
- 16:03Speaker 1: were eight and four, were coming off an eleven to
- 16:05Speaker 1: one win over the Rays. Since then, things have not
- 16:10Speaker 1: gone great. They've only won five games since then.
- 16:13Speaker 2: They oh, no, my bad. Six games since then.
- 16:15Speaker 1: They are fourteen and twenty now and we're looking at
- 16:19Speaker 1: a team. Look at this outfield. Have you seen this
- 16:22Speaker 1: outfield recently? It is an outfield of Kyne Parris, Taylor
- 16:26Speaker 1: Ward and Gustavo Compero. Jo Adell has lost his job.
- 16:31Speaker 1: We also have Leon Moncata back, who I mean, he
- 16:33Speaker 1: popped at homer last night, but he's back in this lineup.
- 16:36Speaker 1: It is Garody, this Angel's lineup. They are quickly like
- 16:42Speaker 1: in White Sox Rockies territory. So Trout was I would
- 16:47Speaker 1: say he was doing okay because like he had nine
- 16:49Speaker 1: homers before he went down, but it's only one seventy
- 16:51Speaker 1: nine batting average, one fifty nine bat babe. It like
- 16:55Speaker 1: he was hitting the snot out of the ball, kind
- 16:57Speaker 1: of taking that turn into being more of a DH.
- 17:00Speaker 1: Are you interested in Mike Trout maybe like for rest
- 17:04Speaker 1: of season or are you already seeing the death Knel
- 17:07Speaker 1: for twenty twenty five because the Angels don't know how
- 17:10Speaker 1: to handle injuries like this, I.
- 17:13Speaker 3: Think, I think multiple things can be true, and I
- 17:16Speaker 3: think the Angels don't know how to handle injuries, and
- 17:19Speaker 3: I think that has me relatively concerned. But at the
- 17:24Speaker 3: same time, I do think, you know, Mike Trout is
- 17:28Speaker 3: incredible power bat in that true DH fashion at this point,
- 17:33Speaker 3: like he's like Nelson Cruz a few years before Nelson
- 17:36Speaker 3: Cruise was Nelson Cruz. And I think that there's a
- 17:40Speaker 3: slight buying opportunity here because it doesn't sound like this
- 17:42Speaker 3: is too serious. But again, the Angels are like not
- 17:46Speaker 3: the most predictable as far as that news, but the
- 17:49Speaker 3: fact that he's really struggled from a luck perspective this
- 17:52Speaker 3: year means I feel like the folks might be out
- 17:56Speaker 3: on him a little sooner, and that the cost to
- 17:59Speaker 3: acquire him might be just reasonable enough that is worth
- 18:02Speaker 3: the gamble. And so I don't think they're gonna be
- 18:06Speaker 3: charging Mike Trout prices, I think, is what I'm getting.
- 18:08Speaker 3: I think the price here might be a you know,
- 18:11Speaker 3: fourth or fifth starter or maybe back in closer kind
- 18:15Speaker 3: of guy. I think, you know, folks that bought him like,
- 18:18Speaker 3: finally he's gonna be healthy, and then he's not. Like again,
- 18:20Speaker 3: we knew this was coming. Uh, so I would I'm
- 18:23Speaker 3: willing to throw a trade off route there or too
- 18:27Speaker 3: for trout. Not over pain by any means, but if
- 18:30Speaker 3: you're if you're struggling from a power perspective at all,
- 18:34Speaker 3: he's he's really intriguing. There's no way he's gonna have
- 18:37Speaker 3: one seventy nine. That's gonna that's gonna jump out significantly.
- 18:41Speaker 3: You know, his ex BA his expected baty average is
- 18:45Speaker 3: two forty eight, and you know, I would be surprised
- 18:49Speaker 3: to see that even even higher. I mean, career wise
- 18:53Speaker 3: outside of last year. You know, he's you know, there's
- 18:56Speaker 3: actually his career average is two ninety seven. So like
- 18:58Speaker 3: he's he's a good, good hitter. So I think he
- 19:01Speaker 3: can hit two seventy easily, another twenty homers the rest
- 19:05Speaker 3: of the way once he gets back and healthy again.
- 19:08Speaker 3: It's a question of will he be and do we
- 19:10Speaker 3: trust the angels? And I don't trust the angels, but
- 19:13Speaker 3: I think the price is low enough that I'm willing
- 19:14Speaker 3: to dismiss that for now.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think that's all fair. So I like
- 19:19Speaker 1: the way you thread the needle there. Okay, next injury
- 19:22Speaker 1: we have is probably most significant in terms of actual
- 19:25Speaker 1: like knocking near team out of the standings, as my
- 19:28Speaker 1: TGFBI team knows it's struggling right now, because I use
- 19:32Speaker 1: my first round pick, actually it was my second round
- 19:34Speaker 1: pick because I took Cherio before. I didn't want him
- 19:36Speaker 1: to go around on the turn. I'd pick fourteen, but
- 19:39Speaker 1: I used my second round pick on Jordan Alvarez from
- 19:43Speaker 1: the Houston Astros, who hit the eel with a handstring.
- 19:47Speaker 2: So he has had.
- 19:49Speaker 1: A tough year with a two ten three oh six
- 19:51Speaker 1: three forty slash line that is just a six forty
- 19:56Speaker 1: six ops, which is usually just about what his slugging
- 20:01Speaker 1: percentage is only three bombs seventy nine WRC plus, but
- 20:06Speaker 1: a little bit like Trout where two twenty two babup uh.
- 20:09Speaker 1: The metrics underneath the hood were still solid for Ordon Alfas,
- 20:14Speaker 1: but this hand injury, you wonder how much that was
- 20:16Speaker 1: holding him back. He obviously came into the year with
- 20:19Speaker 1: the knee issue. Usually I have been out on your
- 20:22Speaker 1: done until this year. That like I was like, oh yeah,
- 20:25Speaker 1: the injuries will catch up with him eventually. But like
- 20:28Speaker 1: this year, maybe he can keep it, keep it seady,
- 20:30Speaker 1: keep it going. I mean, then again, he's also only
- 20:33Speaker 1: maxed out one hundred and forty seven games in a season.
- 20:35Speaker 1: So is this just kind of like the annual two
- 20:38Speaker 1: year stint without your don or?
- 20:40Speaker 2: Uh? Is this something more concerning for you?
- 20:44Speaker 3: This one is more concerning to me, And there's probably
- 20:48Speaker 3: two reasons. One, it's reoccurring. This is not the first
- 20:52Speaker 3: time he's had hand issues, inflammation, things like that like
- 20:57Speaker 3: in this it's so that's concerning because it's it's a
- 21:00Speaker 3: continuous thing. The second thing is it's very unclear what's
- 21:05Speaker 3: actually going on like that, that's the struggle I have,
- 21:08Speaker 3: Like it's just it's soreness, it's inflammation. He's having trouble
- 21:14Speaker 3: holding the bat, Like it's not clear did he do
- 21:18Speaker 3: something or does he just have old man hands? Like
- 21:21Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on. And I think that's
- 21:24Speaker 3: a little bit more concerning for me. Is it's not
- 21:27Speaker 3: something that you, you know, Mike Trout has a bone bruise,
- 21:31Speaker 3: you wait for it to heal, you get rehabbed, and
- 21:34Speaker 3: you come back. Is there a healing here? Is this
- 21:38Speaker 3: he just can't hold a bat. You have to let
- 21:39Speaker 3: it go for a few weeks for inflammation to come bound.
- 21:41Speaker 3: He catches a stinger on the end of the bat
- 21:44Speaker 3: and it's back like that. That's what has me a
- 21:46Speaker 3: little concern here is I don't see the clear path.
- 21:52Speaker 3: Even Jazz has his oblique injury, wh'res like, we know
- 21:54Speaker 3: he's out, we know it typical what happens with the
- 21:55Speaker 3: blaue injury, what the recovery looks like. This one just
- 21:58Speaker 3: seems like it's gonna be a mystery as far as
- 22:00Speaker 3: truly what what he comes back. Because your Don's one
- 22:04Speaker 3: of the best hitters in Leak, there's no question about it.
- 22:06Speaker 3: But it definitely has been a little off this year.
- 22:09Speaker 3: Some of the metrics have taken a step back, and
- 22:12Speaker 3: if you want to be a pessimist, you can easily
- 22:14Speaker 3: say it's because he's not doesn't have the same grip strength,
- 22:17Speaker 3: he's not making the same level of contact. So I'm
- 22:20Speaker 3: a little more concerned he's still your on, Like if
- 22:23Speaker 3: I could be wrong in a week and he's back
- 22:25Speaker 3: and ripping the ball here, But there's just like this
- 22:28Speaker 3: one gives me a little more pause because I would
- 22:29Speaker 3: say the mysterious elements of it.
- 22:32Speaker 1: Yeah, uh rip to my TGFBI team. I mean, I
- 22:37Speaker 1: guess I should have just trusted my gut here on
- 22:39Speaker 1: this that like I've been selling your don a lot
- 22:42Speaker 1: for the past couple of years because of like it's
- 22:47Speaker 1: a soft tissue injury, but it's not. It's like hard
- 22:49Speaker 1: soft tissue that like I think he's got like arthritis
- 22:52Speaker 1: problems is mostly what it is. Like you look at
- 22:55Speaker 1: what's going on with his knees, you look at what's
- 22:57Speaker 1: going on with his hands and his wrists.
- 22:59Speaker 2: That doesn't give.
- 23:00Speaker 1: Me a warm fuzzy feeling that like it does feel
- 23:03Speaker 1: like it's something where it's gonna really go downhill pretty quickly.
- 23:06Speaker 1: So I think if you're in a situation, especially in
- 23:09Speaker 1: like a keeper dynasty league, where once Siordan comes back
- 23:13Speaker 1: and he goes on a heater, do your best to
- 23:17Speaker 1: sell off now because I do think that like this
- 23:19Speaker 1: stuff is gonna continually keep catching up with him. Like
- 23:23Speaker 1: I said, like it feels like he's a substantial just
- 23:27Speaker 1: beast of a player because you really remember all the
- 23:29Speaker 1: playoff moments, especially too, but like look at those games
- 23:32Speaker 1: played and for his age, you can't be running low
- 23:36Speaker 1: games played numbers like that at that age and expect
- 23:40Speaker 1: to have a really lengthy career that like, it just
- 23:42Speaker 1: does not age well in the game of baseball. So
- 23:45Speaker 1: it's almost like Jazz too, where like it just you
- 23:47Speaker 1: can see it where if you just can't stand in
- 23:49Speaker 1: the field, you can't stay in the field.
- 23:52Speaker 3: Yeah, And I think it's it's hard with Jordan to
- 23:55Speaker 3: give up on him because he's hit thirty homers four
- 23:57Speaker 3: years in a row. Yeah, in average, basically three hundred hitter,
- 24:01Speaker 3: but he's only actually eclipsed one hundred rbi is one
- 24:04Speaker 3: time in those four years because he has not stayed
- 24:06Speaker 3: on the field the entire time. I'm I'm splitting hairsy
- 24:09Speaker 3: at ninety seven twice. But I do think it's hard
- 24:13Speaker 3: to look at somebody like that and be like, oh,
- 24:15Speaker 3: he got injured arguably one time, because he's average maybe
- 24:19Speaker 3: all one hundred and thirty games the last four years,
- 24:23Speaker 3: but it is just like that nebulous injury that it
- 24:26Speaker 3: could really derail him. It really could derail him. And
- 24:29Speaker 3: so I almost look at like a move here, not
- 24:32Speaker 3: about you're done, because I wouldn't be surprising to see
- 24:35Speaker 3: him come back and hit thirty. But it's a de
- 24:38Speaker 3: risking of your team, especially that dynasty type format. I
- 24:41Speaker 3: think is really what it comes down to is if
- 24:42Speaker 3: you can move him for somebody that you feel much
- 24:45Speaker 3: more confident in, maybe maybe a little bit less upside,
- 24:49Speaker 3: but you're like, yeah, this guy's gonna play year in,
- 24:51Speaker 3: year out. He's now twenty four to twenty five. Like,
- 24:54Speaker 3: if you can find somebody there and I don't have
- 24:55Speaker 3: a guy that it's not my head, but I think
- 24:59Speaker 3: that there's this now is the time to extruct the
- 25:01Speaker 3: value from yourd on.
- 25:03Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that's fair.
- 25:05Speaker 1: Okay, next to Andrew, we have is in Chicago as
- 25:08Speaker 1: Cubs A Shota Emanaga is down with a hammy injury.
- 25:13Speaker 1: Seems like it's gonna be relatively mild as all the
- 25:17Speaker 1: news is saying they should only be out around like
- 25:19Speaker 1: two weeks for the fifteen day il stent Uh. It's
- 25:23Speaker 1: looked pretty good on the surface, I would say for Emanaga,
- 25:25Speaker 1: and it's a two eighty two era over forty four
- 25:28Speaker 1: and two thirds innings, But that's once you started looking
- 25:31Speaker 1: a little deeper, not so great. That's sustained by a
- 25:34Speaker 1: two to twenty two babeip, he's got a significant drop
- 25:37Speaker 1: in his K rate. It was over nine last year.
- 25:40Speaker 1: It's only six point eight over k K nine.
- 25:43Speaker 2: For this year.
- 25:44Speaker 1: Uh the FIP four fifty four ground ball rate twenty
- 25:49Speaker 1: seven point three. We always knew he was a flyball pitcher,
- 25:51Speaker 1: but yikes, that is a heck of a lot of
- 25:55Speaker 1: fly balls. I'm really worried that this is gonna unravel.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Pretty cool on Ibanaga, you can also see it like
- 26:01Speaker 1: the stuff is okay, I would say, but like I
- 26:05Speaker 1: think also given his pitch mix, you're looking at a
- 26:09Speaker 1: league that's gotten another year of seeing Emanaga and had
- 26:12Speaker 1: the ability to like train on you know whatever advanced
- 26:16Speaker 1: kind of uh pitch machines are out there and in.
- 26:21Speaker 2: VR sets and all sorts of stuff.
- 26:23Speaker 1: That it really does make me worry that this is
- 26:26Speaker 1: another guy that I'm trying to sell. If I've got
- 26:29Speaker 1: I don't have him actually anywhere because like the price
- 26:32Speaker 1: never lined up with what he costs and drafts. But
- 26:35Speaker 1: what do you think about Imanaga? Are you still think
- 26:37Speaker 1: that like he could he could keep this rolling or
- 26:39Speaker 1: do you think that the luck will catch up to
- 26:41Speaker 1: him when he gets back off the eel?
- 26:43Speaker 3: Yeah, I think it's probably mixed bag. I do there's
- 26:45Speaker 3: a lot of worrying signs. I think he's more of
- 26:49Speaker 3: a crafty type chuer with lower velocity, So I think
- 26:52Speaker 3: those are the kind of guys that typically can survive
- 26:55Speaker 3: a little bit better with the less kind of like
- 26:57Speaker 3: eye popping stuff than numbers. So maybe not as concerned
- 27:02Speaker 3: as a as a like a power pitcher that sees
- 27:05Speaker 3: that same drop. But the big thing at the end
- 27:07Speaker 3: of the day is like his fastball is playing terrible
- 27:09Speaker 3: right now, and there is nobody's having any trouble with it.
- 27:15Speaker 3: Guys getting three hundred on his fastball, hard hit rates
- 27:18Speaker 3: forty five percent, like they're slugging five ninety four on it.
- 27:21Speaker 3: Like his fastball is he's usually fifty percent of the time,
- 27:24Speaker 3: and it's getting frushed that therefore his other pitches are
- 27:28Speaker 3: being laid off and that it just kind of snowballs
- 27:32Speaker 3: from there. So if that fastball doesn't, you know, do
- 27:36Speaker 3: what it needs to do, uh, and it really what
- 27:38Speaker 3: it comes down to is he's lost He's lost some
- 27:41Speaker 3: some movement on on that fastball. So that that's, you know,
- 27:45Speaker 3: I think what you have to be concerned about. So
- 27:50Speaker 3: what we'll see, I'm I'm definitely concerned with Imanaga.
- 27:56Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree.
- 27:57Speaker 1: So I think if you do have him out there,
- 27:59Speaker 1: just try to tread lightly because I think sharp players
- 28:02Speaker 1: are gonna see that right away. But like sometimes players
- 28:05Speaker 1: are only looking at those front facing roto stats and
- 28:08Speaker 1: maybe you can slip something through, but I would start preparing. Now, Okay,
- 28:13Speaker 1: let's move on to a couple of other moves we've
- 28:15Speaker 1: got that are not injuries. We've got emotions, which I
- 28:18Speaker 1: mean about that time of the year where you've gotten
- 28:21Speaker 1: a month of run from your quote unquote starters and
- 28:24Speaker 1: now it's time to kind of, you know, crap or
- 28:27Speaker 1: get off the potty time. And so that is happening
- 28:30Speaker 1: in Cincinnati as Alexis Diaz, which last week we did
- 28:35Speaker 1: talk about where we missed we should high five each
- 28:37Speaker 1: other virtually because this was our cell in the central pod.
- 28:41Speaker 1: Maybe because it was a little too obvious that Alexis
- 28:44Speaker 1: Diaz just did not shape up to be a closer
- 28:46Speaker 1: in Cincinnati and given the ambitions of that squad and
- 28:50Speaker 1: Tito Francona taking over as manager, you just did not
- 28:53Speaker 1: see how that was going to work out. So I
- 28:56Speaker 1: think you can totally wipe Alexis ds off your board,
- 28:58Speaker 1: even in like Dinas any sort of keeper league situations
- 29:04Speaker 1: they did in his stead. Call up Luis May, who
- 29:07Speaker 1: throws one hundred and four mile our fastball doesn't know
- 29:10Speaker 1: where it's going, but it's electric.
- 29:12Speaker 2: Somebody I would.
- 29:13Speaker 1: Watch in those nicety keeper leaks, just because, like, if
- 29:16Speaker 1: he starts putting it together with major league coaching, like
- 29:20Speaker 1: he could turn into something that akin to Alexisdiaz. Where
- 29:24Speaker 1: I'm going here with this question though, is Amelio Pagan.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Closers are falling around all around us. Emmanuel Class has
- 29:31Speaker 1: been struggling. He's looked a little better recently, but Devin
- 29:33Speaker 1: Williams's toast Edwin Diaz has been in a little bit
- 29:38Speaker 1: of a tough situation. Pagan, who typically has been rough
- 29:42Speaker 1: throughout his career with like a home runder fly ball
- 29:45Speaker 1: rate in like the fifteen percent range, looking sharp in
- 29:49Speaker 1: Cincinnati with the two seventy sixty array just under a
- 29:52Speaker 1: tick K nine eight saves over sixteen and third innings.
- 29:57Speaker 1: I wasn't in on this initially, but I'm starting to
- 29:59Speaker 1: get be behind it. I'm now also seeing as a
- 30:01Speaker 1: nineteen percent ground ball rate, but it's only sixteen third innings.
- 30:05Speaker 1: I mean what tier are you kind of putting Pegan
- 30:08Speaker 1: in because he's the de factor closer and like finding
- 30:11Speaker 1: saves is so impossible nowadays.
- 30:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I you know, I actually think first of all, Diaz,
- 30:18Speaker 3: like we knew this was coming. Like the profile the
- 30:20Speaker 3: entire time he was a closer was was just a
- 30:23Speaker 3: roller coaster, So not a matter of time. This is
- 30:25Speaker 3: not like David Bednar situation, where like he sent them
- 30:28Speaker 3: down to get right. Like his profile was scary to
- 30:30Speaker 3: start with and he was always living on the edge.
- 30:33Speaker 3: But Pegne, he the ground ball slash five ball rate
- 30:39Speaker 3: is scary, is scary all to get out in Cincinnati.
- 30:43Speaker 3: But he also has exceptional control for reliever and his
- 30:51Speaker 3: velocity's you know, been steady through for the last few years.
- 30:55Speaker 3: He seems like he really is holding things together. He
- 30:59Speaker 3: has been incredible lucky this year is we've looked his
- 31:02Speaker 3: babe up is eighty eight, like that's all that's low.
- 31:08Speaker 3: But at the end of the day, he still keeps
- 31:11Speaker 3: keeps guys off of base, and so he's susceptible to
- 31:15Speaker 3: the solo homer. That's an issue. But I've kind of
- 31:18Speaker 3: got him in like second tier of closers right now
- 31:20Speaker 3: because he's steady, he's he's not gonna he's not the
- 31:23Speaker 3: kind of guy that's gonna completely blow up on you
- 31:27Speaker 3: and everybody else falling like dominoes all around. Like second
- 31:31Speaker 3: tier starts to like what the eighth or tenth closer,
- 31:35Speaker 3: and so second tiers is maybe like your for your
- 31:38Speaker 3: best closer. Uh, And it's twelve team league. So I
- 31:41Speaker 3: think Pegan is definitely the guy. And I think if
- 31:43Speaker 3: if you kind of backed into him and uh, you
- 31:46Speaker 3: should be really really happy right now.
- 31:48Speaker 1: Yeah, I totally agree that, like it's it's someone where
- 31:51Speaker 1: you know there's gonna be a couple of tough outings eventually,
- 31:55Speaker 1: but like considering the rest of the landscape out there,
- 31:58Speaker 1: I think he's a He's a pretty good fantasy asset
- 32:01Speaker 1: right now. So okay, let's get into another demotion, as
- 32:04Speaker 1: this one hurts our boy Jake Berger a long time
- 32:08Speaker 1: kind of just constant theme of this podcast, especially his
- 32:12Speaker 1: sprint speed. I do want you to look it up
- 32:14Speaker 1: because I haven't looked it up recently. Just I want
- 32:16Speaker 1: to know whether or not it's it held up before
- 32:18Speaker 1: he got demoted, so you can test me.
- 32:20Speaker 2: He can give me a good over under.
- 32:23Speaker 1: That it was a tough start in Texas to say
- 32:28Speaker 1: the least one one three thirty slash line over one
- 32:32Speaker 1: hundred and eight plate appearances, just three homers at the
- 32:35Speaker 1: fifty six WRC plus. The problem is when you pair
- 32:39Speaker 1: that with negative defense the way Jake Berger does, that's
- 32:42Speaker 1: a demotion just kind of waiting to happen, and Texas
- 32:45Speaker 1: had slightly better options. I mean, what do you are
- 32:49Speaker 1: you holding on in to Burger? I mean he cost
- 32:52Speaker 1: a pretty penny at the draft table this past year
- 32:54Speaker 1: just because corner was so thin. I mean, thankfully it's
- 32:57Speaker 1: kind of like filled from the back a little bit,
- 33:00Speaker 1: no things in part to our boy Peven Smith. But like,
- 33:04Speaker 1: is this the type of player where you're trying to
- 33:07Speaker 1: hope on the bounce back when like Zips has him
- 33:10Speaker 1: for twenty two homers less the season if he comes
- 33:11Speaker 1: back up, which maybe now that I'm looking at that,
- 33:15Speaker 1: that's not counting in the depth chart. So he's like
- 33:18Speaker 1: still in between eighteen to twenty. Is he worth stashing
- 33:21Speaker 1: for you, Jake Berger?
- 33:22Speaker 3: Yeah? I think he is. I think Jake Berger's worth
- 33:27Speaker 3: stashing for a few reasons here. One, you know, you're
- 33:32Speaker 3: looking at a guy that you know He's had some
- 33:34Speaker 3: pretty rough fluck to start the year. He doesn't hit
- 33:38Speaker 3: the ball great, but he has a low babe up
- 33:40Speaker 3: two thirty nine. His home run for fly ball rate
- 33:43Speaker 3: is half what he's done in his career. And so
- 33:45Speaker 3: if you just you know, simple math, reverse that and
- 33:48Speaker 3: so three homers, he could have six and you expect
- 33:53Speaker 3: that average to bounce back. He's hit two fifty three
- 33:56Speaker 3: straight years, and so you know it's there. You know
- 34:00Speaker 3: it's it's it's definitely possible, and it for him, it's
- 34:04Speaker 3: probably like one tweak to get to do what he's
- 34:07Speaker 3: always done. That said, I we kind of go back
- 34:11Speaker 3: to our our misses that we talked about just last week.
- 34:15Speaker 3: I think there's a learning here. And I've seen this
- 34:17Speaker 3: kind of theme as if I've looked at players this year,
- 34:20Speaker 3: guys that have bottom barrel uh played approach from a
- 34:26Speaker 3: strikeout and walk perspective, I've seen to be much more volatile.
- 34:31Speaker 3: Like if if you have one of the two working
- 34:33Speaker 3: for you, like that's like a carrying like floor that
- 34:38Speaker 3: isn't gonna you're not gonna drop below. When you have
- 34:40Speaker 3: both of them as an issue, then all of a sudden,
- 34:43Speaker 3: you can the bottom can fall out. And so I've
- 34:46Speaker 3: seen a number of guys that seem that that if
- 34:48Speaker 3: you look at their profiles, like the they hit the
- 34:51Speaker 3: ball hard, they hit it far, you know, the launch
- 34:53Speaker 3: angle's good, they're squaring it up. But when that like
- 34:57Speaker 3: they just get a little off, they're completely useless because
- 35:00Speaker 3: they don't get on base, they don't score runs. Like
- 35:03Speaker 3: so from a team baseball true perspective, they're completely workless
- 35:06Speaker 3: because they don't get on the obp is nothing. They're
- 35:08Speaker 3: not even getting like useful ground balls and moving guys over.
- 35:11Speaker 3: And that's really really hard because then from a fantasy perspective,
- 35:15Speaker 3: that's the guy you pinned ship for you to mote
- 35:16Speaker 3: them things like that versus you know, uh, I compare Burger.
- 35:21Speaker 3: I should never compare Burger and Mason Win, but I'm
- 35:23Speaker 3: going to Mason Winn was dreadful to start the year
- 35:26Speaker 3: this year. But Mason Winn still did all the little
- 35:29Speaker 3: things right. He played good defense, he bunted the ball,
- 35:32Speaker 3: he took walks. So he's so like the Cardinals, like, yeah,
- 35:36Speaker 3: he's not doing great, but like he's still like useful
- 35:40Speaker 3: from a real world baseball perspective. And then like gave
- 35:43Speaker 3: him time, and he worked things out and he's actually
- 35:44Speaker 3: been really really good lately. Burger brings nothing else to
- 35:48Speaker 3: the table, and so that that's the challenge. It definitely
- 35:53Speaker 3: hurts from from this podcast perspective, Uh to see it,
- 35:58Speaker 3: and so I'm willing to hold on, but might be empty.
- 36:00Speaker 1: Hope got it? Hit me with that over under on
- 36:03Speaker 1: the sprint speed.
- 36:05Speaker 3: Yeah, So what I'm gonna do is I'm gonna give
- 36:07Speaker 3: you last year sprint speed is the over under. Okay,
- 36:10Speaker 3: he was the sixty fifth percentile sprints. We will do
- 36:13Speaker 3: percentile he slipped. That was last year sixty fifth percentile,
- 36:18Speaker 3: but he was sixty eighties. It was sixty seventy year
- 36:21Speaker 3: before before. He's never han't been in the eighties. Maybe
- 36:24Speaker 3: he's always Yeah, temporary blip. So let's let's let's hump
- 36:28Speaker 3: it up to you. Since your head's there, We're gonna
- 36:31Speaker 3: put his an even seventy is the over under for
- 36:35Speaker 3: Jake Berger? Is he running faster this year than last year?
- 36:39Speaker 1: I'm gonna say yes, because I think what probably was
- 36:41Speaker 1: happening is he was pressing and every ground ball he
- 36:44Speaker 1: was really really liking it.
- 36:47Speaker 3: You got it, Yes, sprint He's seventy six percentile, He's
- 36:51Speaker 3: almost added ten points to that. Burger can move. He
- 36:55Speaker 3: can't still a base to save his life, but the
- 36:56Speaker 3: guy can move.
- 36:58Speaker 1: I do also wonder because I've been looking at this
- 37:00Speaker 1: a little bit on savant like trying to figure out
- 37:02Speaker 1: like because you can see it a little bit in
- 37:05Speaker 1: like I was looking at Lawrence Butler today has this
- 37:08Speaker 1: where the barrel rate is just barely fluctuated, but the
- 37:13Speaker 1: slider is way it looks way worse than it is
- 37:15Speaker 1: because like just the league around you that I wonder
- 37:19Speaker 1: if that's what happened with Burger, because I think when
- 37:21Speaker 1: we've done this before, he's been in the mid seventies,
- 37:23Speaker 1: but as the season goes on, younger players come up
- 37:26Speaker 1: from the miners, and it pushes him further down the
- 37:29Speaker 1: percentiles that like I'd be fascinated to get Like I'm
- 37:33Speaker 1: sure it's out there somewhere of like a greater understanding
- 37:35Speaker 1: of like when those percentile ranges actually start stabilizing a.
- 37:39Speaker 2: Little bit more, because it's been really.
- 37:41Speaker 1: Tough I think in April analysis trying to figure out
- 37:45Speaker 1: is this a good barrel rate? Is the league like
- 37:47Speaker 1: where's the league at? Is the person is there approach? Okay,
- 37:50Speaker 1: you know, and so like pulling that all back is
- 37:53Speaker 1: a lot more difficult.
- 37:54Speaker 2: With a little bit of data.
- 37:55Speaker 3: I think you're onto something there, because if you actually
- 37:58Speaker 3: look at the the hard value on it, sprint speeds
- 38:01Speaker 3: measured feet per second, you have twenty twenty three was
- 38:05Speaker 3: twenty eight, twenty twenty four is twenty seven point nine.
- 38:08Speaker 3: This year's twenty eight point one. It's virtually unchanged, but
- 38:12Speaker 3: that means the league is lower. And so I do
- 38:15Speaker 3: wonder if there's something to that point of earlier in
- 38:18Speaker 3: the season guys are not warm, they're not Maybe I
- 38:22Speaker 3: think maybe there's a degree you're not getting the young
- 38:25Speaker 3: guys getting called up that tend to bring that athleticism,
- 38:29Speaker 3: bring that speed, so that as you do call ups
- 38:31Speaker 3: later in the year and you're replacing these veterans that
- 38:34Speaker 3: don't run as much, you gill the more that speed
- 38:37Speaker 3: coming up does. Does that sea rise? And somebody like
- 38:40Speaker 3: Burger than fall in that discussion, because he really hasn't
- 38:44Speaker 3: changed basically at all throughout his career, but it does
- 38:47Speaker 3: seem that the league has has been a challenge for him.
- 38:51Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 38:52Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm not smart enough to figure that kind of
- 38:54Speaker 1: stuff out or have enough time, but an any listeners
- 38:58Speaker 1: out there that are actually into that real data nerd stuff,
- 39:01Speaker 1: that would be fascinating to kind of like pick apart.
- 39:05Speaker 1: Let's stick in Texas for our last bit of news here,
- 39:07Speaker 1: because I'm just intrigued about like how you consider this
- 39:11Speaker 1: for fantasy just approaches overall. So in Texas, part of
- 39:17Speaker 1: the reason they was to shake up with Jake Berger
- 39:19Speaker 1: is that they've started to slip behind in the Al
- 39:22Speaker 1: West and the offense has been absolutely dreadful to the
- 39:25Speaker 1: point where I was like streaming pitchers against this Texas
- 39:28Speaker 1: Rangers team in daily leagues. And so what they did
- 39:32Speaker 1: is they fired Donny Eckert. They're hitting court or an
- 39:35Speaker 1: offensive coordinator football term. And so actually also the first
- 39:42Speaker 1: firing of a coach in Bruce Bouchie's career as a manager,
- 39:45Speaker 1: which is really fascinating considering how long his career is.
- 39:50Speaker 3: How bad do you have to be?
- 39:52Speaker 2: Yeah, and that like he was.
- 39:54Speaker 1: I mean, there's some dog teams and like San Diego
- 39:57Speaker 1: and stuff that like Boach was on top of and
- 39:59Speaker 1: so so yeah, that's that's very impressive to be ekerate
- 40:04Speaker 1: in holding that distinguishment. But then when they fired him
- 40:08Speaker 1: over the weekend. They then went on a tear scored
- 40:11Speaker 1: eight runs against Seattle hired Brett Boone, who I was
- 40:16Speaker 1: watching him in an interview to day. Honestly looks like
- 40:18Speaker 1: he could still play. Dude is like barely aged, not
- 40:21Speaker 1: helping him shake those steroid allogations they had when he
- 40:23Speaker 1: played either. But he is now the he's only the
- 40:27Speaker 1: hitting coach. He didn't get offensive coordinator, so that's a bummer.
- 40:30Speaker 3: That was clearly the issue there. There's too much went
- 40:32Speaker 3: to his head.
- 40:33Speaker 2: So yeah, maybe that's what it was.
- 40:34Speaker 3: Like.
- 40:34Speaker 1: People were getting emails from offensive coordinator Donnie Eckert.
- 40:37Speaker 2: And they're like, is this like from the Cowboys? Like
- 40:40Speaker 2: what's going on?
- 40:41Speaker 3: Spam?
- 40:44Speaker 2: So they did.
- 40:45Speaker 1: On Tuesday night, the Ranger scored another six runs, a
- 40:48Speaker 1: little bit revived. Do you do anything with this for fantasy,
- 40:52Speaker 1: Like is there any sort of impact that you try
- 40:55Speaker 1: to like maybe toggle up or down in terms of
- 40:58Speaker 1: like players that are going through coaching switches or is
- 41:02Speaker 1: it just kind.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Of all noise to you?
- 41:05Speaker 3: I just say it's like eighty percent noise, twenty percent
- 41:08Speaker 3: after the fact reaction. Is the way I look at
- 41:10Speaker 3: it is that generally it doesn't matter. It does like
- 41:13Speaker 3: good players hit players that aren't don't. But when there's
- 41:19Speaker 3: a notable, noticeable, sustained change, then I'm willing to give
- 41:23Speaker 3: a little bit more credence. And I think that's really
- 41:27Speaker 3: what you look for here, is like at times, it's
- 41:30Speaker 3: just it's just like a guy getting sense of the miners,
- 41:31Speaker 3: like a coaching change. Like it's just a little jolt
- 41:34Speaker 3: of like, hey, reality hit, you got to do something right.
- 41:37Speaker 3: You called out while your boss You're like, crap, I
- 41:39Speaker 3: really got to turn things up right. It's it's one
- 41:41Speaker 3: of those. But if you know, for the next three
- 41:45Speaker 3: four weeks the Rangers just seem to, like all of
- 41:47Speaker 3: a sudden, be doing things different. They seem to be
- 41:50Speaker 3: taking more walks, they seem to be more aggressive, things
- 41:52Speaker 3: like that. Then it's like, okay, there's something here. Or
- 41:55Speaker 3: you start to see the news of the approach that
- 42:00Speaker 3: they're really pushing a different way of looking at things,
- 42:03Speaker 3: and I'm like, okay, maybe I'll give you a little
- 42:05Speaker 3: tick tick on the back end, But like until something
- 42:08Speaker 3: actually comes out or you see sustained performance, it's noise
- 42:11Speaker 3: to me on the back end of it. I'm willing
- 42:14Speaker 3: to give you a little tick up or down, but
- 42:16Speaker 3: it's it's subjective. Well, but that way, it's subjective at
- 42:19Speaker 3: the end of the day.
- 42:20Speaker 2: Yeah, I think that's fair.
- 42:22Speaker 1: I didn't put this actually in our rundown to talk about,
- 42:24Speaker 1: so I'm hitting you out of the blue with this question.
- 42:27Speaker 1: One of the other shakeups the Rangers did was to
- 42:30Speaker 1: just put later to Varus on outright Waivers. He has
- 42:33Speaker 1: claimed my division rival Seattle Mariners is to Various this
- 42:37Speaker 1: year's Victor Roe place.
- 42:39Speaker 3: I mean, first of all, I've never been on Too Varius.
- 42:43Speaker 3: But if there is a guy that feels like that
- 42:46Speaker 3: fit like going to Seattle, like a place that is
- 42:51Speaker 3: just almost terrible to hit at this point, a guy
- 42:54Speaker 3: that's got speed, a little bit of power and can
- 42:57Speaker 3: kind of be a spark plug at times, like it
- 42:59Speaker 3: feels like that's the kind of guy I'm not investing
- 43:02Speaker 3: at all. I'm not interested at all. I said the
- 43:05Speaker 3: same thing about Robliss, So just take that from for
- 43:07Speaker 3: a grain of salt. But I'd find it fascinating that
- 43:12Speaker 3: like it felt like for years Texas, like why do
- 43:15Speaker 3: you keep putting Leoti Taveres out there? Why do you
- 43:18Speaker 3: keep you know, leveraging this guy who's like ceilings fifteen
- 43:23Speaker 3: fifteen with a two fifty average, Like, yeah, I get
- 43:26Speaker 3: he's got a good glove, but they kept passing over
- 43:28Speaker 3: other guys that seemed to be more more talented. And
- 43:30Speaker 3: then now that the you know, they've got injuries and
- 43:35Speaker 3: all these other things, now they put them out out
- 43:38Speaker 3: right lest somebody else take him. Like I just I'm
- 43:40Speaker 3: not following that. Maybe it is a money thing, like
- 43:43Speaker 3: he was on a five million dollar contract and he's
- 43:46Speaker 3: are eligible, so maybe there's like time to move on.
- 43:50Speaker 3: But I'm a little surprised they couldn't get anything on
- 43:52Speaker 3: the trade market for him. So it's a little perplexing.
- 43:56Speaker 3: It's it's mostly noise.
- 43:58Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean I think if you're Ale only, yeah,
- 44:01Speaker 1: dart throw, that's a great dart throw.
- 44:02Speaker 2: Because he is.
- 44:03Speaker 1: It looks like he's the starting right fielder right now
- 44:05Speaker 1: for the Mariners for the foreseeable future.
- 44:07Speaker 2: It's been a really good offense. Somehow.
- 44:10Speaker 1: I actually did change their hitting philosophy in the off
- 44:14Speaker 1: seats on which I think is part of it. That,
- 44:16Speaker 1: Like I think Edgar came in and Edgar Martinez that is,
- 44:19Speaker 1: and really kind of coached them up pretty well. That like,
- 44:22Speaker 1: they've just looked much better all around. They're also pretty lucky.
- 44:25Speaker 2: But in that situation, Yeah, but until.
- 44:28Speaker 1: We see a little more from him the way we
- 44:30Speaker 1: did for Rod Place, that's you're gonna need a little
- 44:33Speaker 1: more runway before you invest heavily anywhere else. Okay, Well,
- 44:38Speaker 1: the baseball calendar Baseball card calendar is all in the
- 44:42Speaker 1: show notes, no changes since we've talked about it last
- 44:45Speaker 1: week because we've got the release of twenty twenty five Bowman.
- 44:49Speaker 1: Chrome are not chrome. I mean there's some chrome. We'll
- 44:52Speaker 1: get into that.
- 44:53Speaker 2: There's actually a lot of chrome.
- 44:54Speaker 1: But we're going to cover that checklist and overview after
- 44:57Speaker 1: we take a quick break, so stick around, Hello, and
- 45:16Speaker 1: welcome back everybody. We are going to get into the
- 45:19Speaker 1: discussion of twenty twenty five Bowman Baseball, one of the
- 45:24Speaker 1: seminal releases of the year and always happens around this time,
- 45:27Speaker 1: so it is like very much the prime. Like, hey,
- 45:30Speaker 1: baseball season has been going for a little bit. Let's
- 45:32Speaker 1: rip some Bowman. Let's get into some of these prospects,
- 45:35Speaker 1: especially because we are loaded with prospects from the twenty
- 45:39Speaker 1: twenty four draft. The way that this is traditionally worked
- 45:42Speaker 1: in the Bowman sphere is that they, you know, hold
- 45:45Speaker 1: over the number two overall pick from the previous year
- 45:49Speaker 1: to put them into the next year's product. And so
- 45:52Speaker 1: that's what we've got again with Charlie Condon, right, I
- 45:56Speaker 1: believe that's correct, And so yes, okay, just head to
- 46:00Speaker 1: like second guess myself for a bit, just because wow,
- 46:03Speaker 1: bet the Rockies wish they could redo that one. But
- 46:08Speaker 1: this is going to be I think, another fascinating release
- 46:11Speaker 1: here from tops and fanatics. We've got lots of inserts,
- 46:15Speaker 1: lots of parallels, lots of great autos, lots of great prospects,
- 46:19Speaker 1: lots of expensive boxes out there. So I think maybe
- 46:23Speaker 1: first brew let's touch a little bit just on the
- 46:25Speaker 1: design here Bowman. I think for twenty twenty five we
- 46:28Speaker 1: got a pretty classic framing, New age futuristic sort of
- 46:32Speaker 1: Bowman cutting edge, same sort of typography and everything. I
- 46:37Speaker 1: don't know if I've necessarily got like a great take
- 46:39Speaker 1: on it in terms of like this feels like Bowman
- 46:42Speaker 1: to me, which is what Bowman should be. So like
- 46:45Speaker 1: they've kind of gone to this design. I would say
- 46:48Speaker 1: it feels like six of the eight last eight years
- 46:50Speaker 1: or so that like it's been a pretty kind of
- 46:53Speaker 1: steady thing.
- 46:54Speaker 2: But I don't mind it.
- 46:55Speaker 3: What about you, Yeah, I don't mind it. The only
- 46:58Speaker 3: little bit of a hedge I have against it is
- 47:01Speaker 3: to your point, it's it's almost so common now, like
- 47:05Speaker 3: I feel like in the past, like you could tell
- 47:06Speaker 3: like you can pull a Bowman like, oh, this is
- 47:08Speaker 3: a different year. This is a different year, Like I'm
- 47:09Speaker 3: looking at the twenty twenty five design now, like is
- 47:11Speaker 3: this twenty twenty five is the twenty four for like
- 47:14Speaker 3: they've they've They've really not varied it that terribly much.
- 47:17Speaker 3: But I'm always a big fan of the Bowman's the
- 47:21Speaker 3: kind of framed card which really helps you with from
- 47:24Speaker 3: a centering perspective, the big logos, the all the wonderful
- 47:30Speaker 3: work that the tops and fanatics do to force the
- 47:34Speaker 3: team jerseys onto all these guys that never wore a
- 47:37Speaker 3: team jersey before. So a good job with all of
- 47:40Speaker 3: your AI work. So I think it's a good card
- 47:43Speaker 3: over all. My own only nitpick, Like I said, I
- 47:45Speaker 3: wish they would do a little bit more changing it up,
- 47:47Speaker 3: because it does feel like it's not too different than
- 47:49Speaker 3: what they've done in the past, which is fine, Like
- 47:52Speaker 3: that's Bowman needs to be Bowman, which is which is fine.
- 47:55Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I agree, And like that is a great
- 47:58Speaker 1: point in the photoshop because I think this was we
- 48:00Speaker 1: did this for Bowman last year, where like Charlie Condon's
- 48:04Speaker 1: pictures got this a little bit where like you kind
- 48:06Speaker 1: of wonder about that next layer of like photoshopping because
- 48:08Speaker 1: there's a person behind Charlie Condon in his photo, but
- 48:13Speaker 1: it's like very faded out because Bowman, especially like brings
- 48:17Speaker 1: the player to the front, like to the foreground, and
- 48:20Speaker 1: everything else is kind of fuzzed out into the background.
- 48:23Speaker 1: So that really like highlights and features the player. That's
- 48:26Speaker 1: kind of like the classic Bowman thing, but they went
- 48:29Speaker 1: to the next level of like the player in the
- 48:31Speaker 1: background is wearing a purple jersey and Charlie Condon's card,
- 48:34Speaker 1: like did they change that, because like I think we
- 48:37Speaker 1: encountered this with I think it was White Langford's card
- 48:41Speaker 1: where we were trying to like figure out on his
- 48:43Speaker 1: first like how far they had like gone into the
- 48:45Speaker 1: photo shopping of the stadium he was in and stuff,
- 48:47Speaker 1: and so like I do want I'd be fascinated to
- 48:51Speaker 1: like get into like how they determined that over at
- 48:54Speaker 1: tops fanatics like that is like the level of Baseball cardinatory.
- 48:58Speaker 1: I would love to just like get inside info on
- 49:00Speaker 1: of like where do they draw the line or what
- 49:03Speaker 1: has to be fully photoshopped in the background.
- 49:06Speaker 3: It doesn't it feel like the things that fanatics and
- 49:08Speaker 3: tops would do here to focus on those minute details
- 49:12Speaker 3: while putting out like multiple one of one super factors,
- 49:14Speaker 3: like we're going to get this all right, and then
- 49:17Speaker 3: we print the wrong number of them like that. It
- 49:20Speaker 3: just feels like something that they would do.
- 49:22Speaker 1: Hey, I mean, it's been like eighteen months since we've
- 49:24Speaker 1: had any retro fractor or super fractor controversy, so maybe
- 49:30Speaker 1: they sorted it out.
- 49:31Speaker 2: It's about time.
- 49:33Speaker 3: Maybe let's go too far.
- 49:35Speaker 1: Okay, well, let's get into some of the actual details
- 49:37Speaker 1: here of twenty twenty five bowmen. So you've got a
- 49:39Speaker 1: pretty traditional one hundred card set of your bass players.
- 49:43Speaker 1: So this includes your stars, your rookies, your major league players,
- 49:47Speaker 1: and then you've got one hundred and fifty card prospect
- 49:50Speaker 1: checklist that all come in a chrome variation that's going
- 49:54Speaker 1: to be mixed with a combination of kind of prospects
- 49:58Speaker 1: that have been trickling matriculating a couple of years, so
- 50:00Speaker 1: they don't have Bowman first. Two guys that have Bowman first,
- 50:04Speaker 1: or some players who like I don't I haven't found
- 50:07Speaker 1: anybody yet, but like sometimes you'll have the occasional player
- 50:09Speaker 1: where this actually happened to desire hope. I've realized in
- 50:13Speaker 1: the twenty twenty four Bowman draft product where he debuted,
- 50:18Speaker 1: but they didn't slap the first on the card. So
- 50:21Speaker 1: I don't know if we've got any of that in
- 50:23Speaker 1: twenty twenty five Bowmen here, but something keep in mind.
- 50:26Speaker 1: But it's been a it's a pretty big checklist, I
- 50:29Speaker 1: would say for first compared to maybe what we've had traditionally,
- 50:33Speaker 1: because it actually it harkens back to the the Elie
- 50:36Speaker 1: de la Cruz Bowman first, when there was just a
- 50:41Speaker 1: super significant prospect in the prospect checklists. I'm talking about
- 50:47Speaker 1: Jesus made here from the Milwaukee Brewers making his first debut.
- 50:50Speaker 1: In this Bowman product, you've also got some big names
- 50:54Speaker 1: like Charlie Condon, JJ Weatherholt, Kevin McGonagall, Quinn Matthews, Jose Spressgno,
- 51:01Speaker 1: David Ortiz Junior. Any of those names really kind of
- 51:05Speaker 1: stand out to you of guys you're trying to acquire
- 51:07Speaker 1: and tuck away or any other first that are in
- 51:10Speaker 1: this product that you were trying to accumulate, and you know,
- 51:14Speaker 1: stash in that rookie box as you're ripping any twenty
- 51:17Speaker 1: twenty five bowman out there.
- 51:19Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I think you hit you hit the
- 51:21Speaker 3: right guys there. I mean, I'm I'm really excited about
- 51:24Speaker 3: weatherhol that partially just because of the cardinal esque me
- 51:30Speaker 3: and you know, I think everybody's gonna be going after
- 51:32Speaker 3: Condon just because of the draft piece. But I think
- 51:36Speaker 3: from a true prospecting perspective, is Hayzu's mo day Like
- 51:39Speaker 3: he's the the poll right now. He's the young guy.
- 51:43Speaker 3: He's gonna make the big, big name for himself. He
- 51:46Speaker 3: you know, all these kind of teenagers seem well beyond
- 51:49Speaker 3: their years, are like where it's at. From a bowman
- 51:52Speaker 3: first perspective, that's what everybody wants because they want to
- 51:55Speaker 3: get out. I personally I shy away from them because
- 51:58Speaker 3: I think it's just too far uh from the majors
- 52:01Speaker 3: at times to to kind of invest in. But I
- 52:04Speaker 3: think he's absolutely the big chase there. And to be honest,
- 52:08Speaker 3: his card looks awesome it's it's it's it's a great,
- 52:11Speaker 3: great picture of him. So I think that that's, you know,
- 52:14Speaker 3: kind of what you have to look forward to. I
- 52:16Speaker 3: also think that you know, there's a number of other
- 52:19Speaker 3: guys here from more of like even a rookie perspective,
- 52:22Speaker 3: like rookie Sasaki being in here, I think is a
- 52:26Speaker 3: big thing. Like it's not necessarily a first by by
- 52:29Speaker 3: any means, but like it's as close to a first
- 52:32Speaker 3: you're gonna get, like it's his bowman rookie and so like,
- 52:36Speaker 3: and he's not not gonna have a first, and so
- 52:38Speaker 3: it's kind of like the Shohewatani to a degree. And
- 52:41Speaker 3: I think that's a sneaky one for folks, is that
- 52:44Speaker 3: the market does tend to treat those cards just like
- 52:49Speaker 3: your your top prospects. They're taught the first. So I
- 52:53Speaker 3: think sneaky rookie Sasaki in there as well, but you
- 52:58Speaker 3: you hit it. I think the lot a lot of
- 53:00Speaker 3: big names. You also have a few guys like Louis Payana,
- 53:04Speaker 3: Franklin Arius you know that are going to be up there.
- 53:09Speaker 3: And then you're I think you're gonna get a little
- 53:10Speaker 3: bit of some of the second guy second time. Through
- 53:13Speaker 3: the Jack kag Le, Owens, James Woods, guys like that,
- 53:16Speaker 3: like still young guys that are are making a name
- 53:19Speaker 3: for themselves.
- 53:21Speaker 1: Yeah, and I yeah, I think the rookies are going
- 53:23Speaker 1: to be a pretty big deal, just kind of the
- 53:26Speaker 1: way that Otani's where when he d viewed with the
- 53:29Speaker 1: Rookie card and Bowman the same thing with the autographs here,
- 53:33Speaker 1: just because like there is especially like a just niche
- 53:38Speaker 1: of the baseball card collecting community that is.
- 53:42Speaker 2: Just Bowman Bowman, Bowman, Bowman Bowman that.
- 53:45Speaker 1: Like I've never really been as much into it, but
- 53:47Speaker 1: like they really do cherish and savor the Bowman first
- 53:52Speaker 1: and just being able to get in early on players.
- 53:54Speaker 2: And especially when you're talking.
- 53:56Speaker 1: That these are going to be on card autos from
- 53:59Speaker 1: Rookie Susaki with the chrome Rookie card without having any
- 54:03Speaker 1: Bowman first like cards available, They're going to be a
- 54:08Speaker 1: very hot commodity because it just kind of like brings
- 54:10Speaker 1: out everybody trying to chase these limited number of cards
- 54:15Speaker 1: from Sasaki and put them in their PCE. They're from
- 54:18Speaker 1: like rookie card collectors, Bowman first collectors, just people trying
- 54:24Speaker 1: to play the market and so like there's all sorts
- 54:27Speaker 1: of just kind of fervor over those cards, which I mean,
- 54:30Speaker 1: I think drove a lot of the price. We covered
- 54:32Speaker 1: it when this was actually announced for pre order, a
- 54:35Speaker 1: very very expensive set that like traditionally Bowman paper used
- 54:39Speaker 1: to be relatively cheap until like things really started booming
- 54:42Speaker 1: during COVID and like taking off with a lot of
- 54:45Speaker 1: the prospecting that we've talked about in Bowman first that
- 54:49Speaker 1: like you're looking at thirty dollars for value box slash
- 54:53Speaker 1: a blaster there, you're looking at two hundred and fifty
- 54:57Speaker 1: dollars for a hobby box with one chrome auto in it.
- 55:01Speaker 1: As we're speaking on the evening of May seventh. Still
- 55:04Speaker 1: some available on tops dot com, which kind of tells
- 55:06Speaker 1: you what's going on there.
- 55:09Speaker 2: The jumbos. You did get three.
- 55:11Speaker 1: Autographs for five hundred and twenty dollars, but like they're
- 55:15Speaker 1: not all hold in Rokie Sasaki rookie cards in there,
- 55:18Speaker 1: you know what I mean. You've got some that are
- 55:20Speaker 1: gonna be hitting Shay Whitcomb rookie cards. You've got some
- 55:24Speaker 1: that are beginning hitt in you know, prospects that honestly
- 55:28Speaker 1: are going to burn out in a ball, so like
- 55:30Speaker 1: it is a very hit or miss product usually like myths.
- 55:34Speaker 2: Especially Actually, I don't know if I've actually.
- 55:38Speaker 1: Ripped any hobby Bowman now that I think about it,
- 55:40Speaker 1: I've only ever ripped retail.
- 55:42Speaker 3: Have you ever ripped a hobby of Bowman? I don't
- 55:45Speaker 3: think I have. I Yeah, I think I've done. I
- 55:48Speaker 3: think I've done Bowman's Sapphire. That was a one time thing.
- 55:53Speaker 3: But yeah, I don't think.
- 55:56Speaker 2: That I really have.
- 55:57Speaker 1: Yeah, because it's a lot of like what we're talking about,
- 55:59Speaker 1: it's just it's like, it is cool, it's a great checklist.
- 56:02Speaker 1: There's a lot of really high end stuff, but it's
- 56:07Speaker 1: a lot to shell out for. Like I said, like
- 56:10Speaker 1: it is often you're getting a guy who is not
- 56:12Speaker 1: going to be an impact major leaguer because it's a
- 56:14Speaker 1: prospect autograph of like a first where you're just like
- 56:18Speaker 1: really taking a deep shot. So keep that in mind
- 56:21Speaker 1: as you're ripping this. Honestly, I think it's a great
- 56:23Speaker 1: retail product. Usually I hit pretty good stuff out of
- 56:26Speaker 1: it that the odds usually favor me a little bit
- 56:29Speaker 1: better than they do for heritage or flagship that have
- 56:33Speaker 1: hit more autos, more parallels out of retail Bowman than
- 56:36Speaker 1: I have out of others. So I don't think it's
- 56:38Speaker 1: a bad retail product, honestly.
- 56:40Speaker 2: What about you.
- 56:41Speaker 3: Yeah, I've actually seen the same thing, and it to
- 56:44Speaker 3: me because the cost to chase the autograph is so significant,
- 56:49Speaker 3: Like you're basically saying you're investing two hundred dollars per autograph,
- 56:53Speaker 3: and that's a pretty tough sled that you're if you
- 57:00Speaker 3: want autographs, you're going you're going Hobby, You're going Jumbo.
- 57:03Speaker 3: But if you just want to go chase some some
- 57:05Speaker 3: first and some inserts and things like that, retail tends
- 57:09Speaker 3: to be pretty good from what I recall with this, Well,
- 57:13Speaker 3: we'll see. It's also I think harder to find early
- 57:16Speaker 3: on because that the price point of the Hobby and
- 57:19Speaker 3: the Jumbo make people want to go for the retail
- 57:22Speaker 3: and pick up you know, two three boxes like that
- 57:24Speaker 3: and spend thirty percent of what they would otherwise. So yeah,
- 57:29Speaker 3: I think it's it's a fun retail product. At the
- 57:32Speaker 3: end of the day, if you are going for the
- 57:34Speaker 3: big boxes, you probably have to go Jumbo because at
- 57:36Speaker 3: least brings your overall costs per auto down. But it's
- 57:41Speaker 3: it's a tough slot.
- 57:43Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I totally agree.
- 57:45Speaker 1: So the other kind of big feature that we've got
- 57:47Speaker 1: going on in twenty twenty five Bowmen is the rookie
- 57:50Speaker 1: red redemption process, which if you want more just like
- 57:55Speaker 1: details on that, I would go back to our last
- 57:57Speaker 1: pod on episode eighty nine where we went into that
- 58:01Speaker 1: as it was rolled out. It's a little bit of
- 58:03Speaker 1: a program where it seems pretty cool. But honestly, if
- 58:07Speaker 1: you pull any of these, redeem them as quick as
- 58:09Speaker 1: you can, because I think that strike while the iron
- 58:12Speaker 1: is hot kind of a bummer. You have to do
- 58:14Speaker 1: it in fanatics cash, but better than nothing, I think
- 58:18Speaker 1: compared to what you're gonna get there. So it is
- 58:20Speaker 1: going to be I think a big kind of marketing
- 58:24Speaker 1: point for tops and fanatics is that Rookie red process.
- 58:28Speaker 1: But honestly, in like eighteen months, I'm not sure anybody's
- 58:32Speaker 1: even going to really remember it.
- 58:34Speaker 2: That like plus, like, do you think that there actually is.
- 58:38Speaker 1: A chance that somebody ever gets up to that thousand
- 58:41Speaker 1: dollars level? Like what do you put the odds? I
- 58:44Speaker 1: guess maybe I should back it up because maybe you
- 58:47Speaker 1: didn't take the quick break to go listen to episode
- 58:49Speaker 1: eighty nine in in summary. The Rookie Red Cards are
- 58:55Speaker 1: specialized RC cards that are stamped with an red RC
- 58:59Speaker 1: on them. Rookie sakis in this involved Kobe Mayo's involved
- 59:04Speaker 1: anybody that has a Rookie card, and so what you
- 59:07Speaker 1: can do is you can redeem them right away for
- 59:08Speaker 1: one hundred dollars a Fanatics cash, much the way that
- 59:11Speaker 1: you could with the MVP buyback, which was a little
- 59:14Speaker 1: different because you could actually get straight cash from a
- 59:16Speaker 1: hobby store. But with these, they escalate based on you know,
- 59:20Speaker 1: number of MVPs if they win the Rookie of the Year,
- 59:22Speaker 1: and then eventually it gets up to one thousand dollars
- 59:25Speaker 1: if they make the Hall of Fame. So like in
- 59:27Speaker 1: twenty five years you could have one thousand dollars from Fanatics,
- 59:31Speaker 1: which we've talked about the risks of, but like.
- 59:34Speaker 2: If you had to put odds on it.
- 59:36Speaker 1: I know that you play around with odds a little
- 59:38Speaker 1: bit every once in a while.
- 59:40Speaker 2: That what do you think it is that somebody actually
- 59:42Speaker 2: hits that thousand dollar redemption.
- 59:45Speaker 3: I think it's incredibly low. I think it's incredibly low.
- 59:50Speaker 3: You know. I say that because you have to have a
- 59:53Speaker 3: few things. You have to have the gall to be
- 59:55Speaker 3: able to hold it for thirty years. And that's just
- 1:00:01Speaker 3: if you have that, I say, if you're young enough to,
- 1:00:03Speaker 3: like if I heldver for thirty years, I'm oping I'm
- 1:00:06Speaker 3: alive in thirty years to get that thing through. But
- 1:00:11Speaker 3: you just have to everything has to come right. Everything
- 1:00:13Speaker 3: has to come right because they have to win the
- 1:00:15Speaker 3: Rookie of the Year, they have to win an MVP,
- 1:00:19Speaker 3: and then they have to get into the Hall of Fame,
- 1:00:22Speaker 3: Like now a Hall of Famer that wins the Rookie
- 1:00:25Speaker 3: the Year and MVP is not like unheard of, that's
- 1:00:27Speaker 3: very actually very common. But there's just a lot has
- 1:00:30Speaker 3: to go right. And I think that it's funny. I
- 1:00:33Speaker 3: was looking at the market for this, like the markets
- 1:00:36Speaker 3: already adjusted to like the market is not excited about this.
- 1:00:39Speaker 3: There are a few guys that they're they're Bowman's reds
- 1:00:45Speaker 3: are going hot. And what's interesting is it's all in
- 1:00:51Speaker 3: the National League, and so I think it tells you
- 1:00:55Speaker 3: that there's not a clear front runner in the AL.
- 1:00:59Speaker 3: Maybe Ben rice Is is kind of leading that right now,
- 1:01:03Speaker 3: but Rookie Sasaki, Dylan Cruz, James Wood High Song Kim
- 1:01:09Speaker 3: for whatever reason, is still like crazy on these and
- 1:01:12Speaker 3: those are the only guys going roughly over one hundred
- 1:01:15Speaker 3: dollars on the market in the early early early polls,
- 1:01:20Speaker 3: which is, as you know, from compared to the fan cash.
- 1:01:23Speaker 3: But you can, like I expected a little bit more
- 1:01:27Speaker 3: of like hype, even the further away guys, just because
- 1:01:29Speaker 3: of the you know, just the whole excitement of it
- 1:01:33Speaker 3: or novelty or whatever you wanna call. But like the
- 1:01:36Speaker 3: lower end of this is like you're you're talking guys
- 1:01:39Speaker 3: that are not like I would say, terrible, but like
- 1:01:42Speaker 3: you want to Connor Norby Red rookie or Jason Young
- 1:01:46Speaker 3: twenty bucks, Like it's it's not crazy, River Ryan, here's
- 1:01:50Speaker 3: ten bucks. Like the market's like, yeah, it's it's not
- 1:01:54Speaker 3: It only works for a few guys. Otherwise it's completely pointless.
- 1:01:58Speaker 3: And the market's already kind of playing in that realm.
- 1:02:02Speaker 3: And so it's just kind of funny. I bet you
- 1:02:04Speaker 3: if you took the betting odds from Vegas of Rookie
- 1:02:07Speaker 3: of the Year, it would like match almost identical to
- 1:02:10Speaker 3: the resell market right now. I also have ice on Kim.
- 1:02:13Speaker 3: I don't know what's going on there.
- 1:02:14Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, that is funny and I've gotten the same
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: feeling kind of just perusing over on Reddit that like
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: guys have been I mean and gals. Two folks have
- 1:02:23Speaker 1: been ripping jumbo boxes out there, and they'll take a
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: picture of like the hits and they'll have like two
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: of these in there, like two of the one hundred
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: dollars redemptions and just like you know, not great autos,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: and they're like, welp, got skunked on my jumbo And
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: then somebody will come and be like, I mean, you
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: got two rookie red redemptions. But like that I think
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: reflects like where the kind of sentiment is on these
- 1:02:48Speaker 1: that I think lots of folks, I mean, you've got
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: to be pretty sharp to be ripping cards nowadays, Like
- 1:02:54Speaker 1: it is a gambling sort of like level like activity
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: that like if you're going to be ripping jumbo boxes
- 1:03:01Speaker 1: and stuff, you've got to be going in I think
- 1:03:03Speaker 1: with eyes more open to that stuff than people probably
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: have in the past, and so they saw right through
- 1:03:11Speaker 1: the odds of like what this could be. And it's
- 1:03:13Speaker 1: just I don't know, it seems like such a flub
- 1:03:17Speaker 1: in terms of marketing from tops and fanatics to try
- 1:03:20Speaker 1: to put this together, or like why not raise it
- 1:03:23Speaker 1: a little bit more?
- 1:03:24Speaker 3: Like yeah, like why not make it? I mean it's
- 1:03:28Speaker 3: like cash, like.
- 1:03:29Speaker 1: One hundred k of finas cash if they make the
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: Hall of Fame, Like what are even the chances of that?
- 1:03:33Speaker 3: Yeah? And you know that they've got the margin is
- 1:03:36Speaker 3: like sixty percent of that stuff, and then inflation over
- 1:03:39Speaker 3: time and all these kinds of things like that day
- 1:03:41Speaker 3: is worth like ten bucks later.
- 1:03:43Speaker 1: So yeah, or you just throw some of that into
- 1:03:45Speaker 1: like an annuity or something and then like yeah, once
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: all these dudes like burn out or whatever.
- 1:03:51Speaker 2: I mean, no big deal.
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: Okay, well let's get into some of the details here,
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: because I will let you chug some water before we
- 1:03:59Speaker 1: get into our annual tradition of getting into some of
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: the parallels. Because we got two sets, I'll let you
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: pick whether or not you want to run through all
- 1:04:09Speaker 1: the papers or all the chromes. So I should specify
- 1:04:12Speaker 1: that all the papers this will go to not only
- 1:04:16Speaker 1: the base set that I was talking about in terms
- 1:04:20Speaker 1: of the hundred cards out there that make up that
- 1:04:24Speaker 1: base set, but you're also looking at the prospect set
- 1:04:28Speaker 1: too that all come in this one hundred and fifty
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: cards will also come in these paper colorations.
- 1:04:33Speaker 2: I'm just gonna scan real quick.
- 1:04:34Speaker 3: I'm pretty sure.
- 1:04:35Speaker 2: They're the same.
- 1:04:36Speaker 1: Yeah, they're the same on the chrome. You only get
- 1:04:39Speaker 1: the chrome variations for those prospects because that is where
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: things have really proliferated.
- 1:04:46Speaker 2: It's a little absurd.
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: So maybe I'm already seeing you up to taking unless
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: you want to.
- 1:04:53Speaker 2: How much do you want to talk here on this pod?
- 1:04:54Speaker 2: You want paper, you want chrome?
- 1:04:56Speaker 3: Oh, give me chrome. I'm ready.
- 1:04:57Speaker 2: Yeah, baby, hit the paper.
- 1:04:59Speaker 3: I'm going to do a little stretching here, a little
- 1:05:01Speaker 3: a few little exercises off off off Mike here, and
- 1:05:05Speaker 3: then I'll be ready for my ten minute segment.
- 1:05:08Speaker 2: I mean, I let me get my water here for faster.
- 1:05:11Speaker 3: Wait, we've we've got to make it through this. But
- 1:05:13Speaker 3: there's I was pulling up the checklist and like I was,
- 1:05:18Speaker 3: I was looking at the base checklist. I'm like we
- 1:05:21Speaker 3: were joking, we were joking before the show, like there's
- 1:05:24Speaker 3: a lot heroes looking like, yeah, there's a lot. I mean,
- 1:05:26Speaker 3: I guess you got the two versions. You can kind
- 1:05:28Speaker 3: of argue that I pulled up the chrome, like, oh
- 1:05:29Speaker 3: my goodness, Like we always joke about it be a
- 1:05:32Speaker 3: lot like this is like seventeen pages of versions here.
- 1:05:37Speaker 3: So yeah, how about you hit the paper. I'm gonna
- 1:05:40Speaker 3: get ready.
- 1:05:40Speaker 1: Okay, so this is just the paper, so this will
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: just be it's more can also to like what you're
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: looking at for Tops gold on Flagship, where it's all
- 1:05:50Speaker 1: going to be flat colorations on these cards and they
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: are going to be on paper stock, not the chrome
- 1:05:56Speaker 1: thick chrumb stock. So first, right off the bat, we've
- 1:05:59Speaker 1: got an unnumbered retro logofoil, which is new this year.
- 1:06:02Speaker 1: What it actually is is if you're familiar with Tops
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: logo fractor chrome or chrome logo fractor, what they did
- 1:06:10Speaker 1: is they put like a rainbow foil on the top
- 1:06:13Speaker 1: of it that has the old school like nineties Bowman
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: logo on.
- 1:06:17Speaker 2: It, and it's sharp. It looks pretty cool.
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: You'll find that one in every two hundred and fifty
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: six hobby boxes, one in every four hundred and thirty
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: one jumbos, one on every fifty eight Breakers delights, which
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: they must be selling that only through like the specialized
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: like Breakers programs, and because those don't even hit tops
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: dot com anymore, but they're rare, they're unnumbered. If you
- 1:06:42Speaker 1: hit one, pretty cool stuff. I think it looks sharp
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: in person. Let's get to the actual rest of those
- 1:06:48Speaker 1: base paper parallels. We've got sky blue four ninety nine,
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: neon green three ninety nine, fusia of two ninety nine,
- 1:06:57Speaker 1: Purple of two fifty, purple pattern of ninety nine, one
- 1:07:01Speaker 1: ninety nine, pink of one seventy five, blue of one fifty,
- 1:07:05Speaker 1: blue pattern of one twenty five, green of ninety nine,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: green pattern of ninety nine. I will say that like
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: it is tough to sometimes distinguish the green and neon green,
- 1:07:17Speaker 1: but uh look at those numbers, you'll be able to
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: figure it out. Yellow of seventy five, yellow pattern also
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: new of seventy five, gold of fifty, orange of twenty five,
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: black of fifteen, black pattern of fifteen, red of five,
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: platinum one of one's printing plates, one of ones. You've
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: got cayenne, magenta, yellow black. That's still a pretty lengthy
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: paper checklist. They've added a few ones in there between
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: yellow pattern black. The retro foil.
- 1:07:55Speaker 2: Pretty lengthy.
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: Uh So it's gonna it's gonna take you a while
- 1:07:58Speaker 1: to check to cross off that checklist of rainbows. If
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: you're going for it on Bowman paper, how do those
- 1:08:05Speaker 1: briefing exercises going you're ready for the chrome?
- 1:08:09Speaker 3: I think we're ready. First of all, don't take notes,
- 1:08:12Speaker 3: because if you are going after the rainbow of the chrome,
- 1:08:15Speaker 3: you're insane, like, so like let's just start there, like
- 1:08:20Speaker 3: it's just unreasonable, you know. So overall print run, we're
- 1:08:25Speaker 3: expecting this year of chrome cards about one hundred and
- 1:08:30Speaker 3: forty two thousand, one hundred and forty three thousand somewhere
- 1:08:34Speaker 3: in there. So just keep up for context of what
- 1:08:36Speaker 3: we're talking about here, for the for the for the car,
- 1:08:38Speaker 3: and you might have to count the one as we go,
- 1:08:40Speaker 3: because I just I can't count that high. So let's
- 1:08:44Speaker 3: let's let's run through here. So we do have a
- 1:08:46Speaker 3: few new ones. So we've got the reptilian refractor. Those
- 1:08:50Speaker 3: are about eight thousand estimated print runs, many diamond refractors,
- 1:08:53Speaker 3: about seven hundred and twenty five X fractors which are
- 1:08:56Speaker 3: are are new this year. Seven hundred and twenty five
- 1:08:58Speaker 3: of those. Wave refractors, about three hundred and fifty of
- 1:09:01Speaker 3: those also new this year. Those are all unnumbered. Those
- 1:09:04Speaker 3: just estimated print runs. Then we get to the numbered
- 1:09:06Speaker 3: stuff here. We got refractors out of four ninety nine
- 1:09:09Speaker 3: laval refractors out of three ninety nine speckl refractors out
- 1:09:12Speaker 3: of two ninety nine. Then we have purple geometrics doesn't
- 1:09:16Speaker 3: have numbers. We don't know there's one in every breaker's
- 1:09:20Speaker 3: delight pack, but we don't necessarily know the volume of
- 1:09:23Speaker 3: the pre picker delight packs. So purple ray wave refractors
- 1:09:27Speaker 3: out of two fifty purple refractions out of two fifty,
- 1:09:29Speaker 3: fu shadow one ninety nine Fusha wave refractors out of
- 1:09:33Speaker 3: one ninety nine, Reptilian future refractors out of one ninety nine.
- 1:09:37Speaker 3: By the way, all your colors are like tripled up here,
- 1:09:39Speaker 3: so they're not really out of one ninety nine, but yeah,
- 1:09:42Speaker 3: we can dream Blue geometrics. One fifty blue ray wave refractors,
- 1:09:47Speaker 3: one fifty blue refractors, one fifty blue shimmer refractors, one
- 1:09:50Speaker 3: fifty reptilian blue refractors. There's actually five out of the
- 1:09:54Speaker 3: one fifties, so you can do the map there. Out
- 1:09:57Speaker 3: of seven fifty if if you want to get negative, here,
- 1:10:00Speaker 3: aqua shimmer out of one twenty five, Aqua X fractor
- 1:10:04Speaker 3: out of one twenty five steel metal, which is another
- 1:10:08Speaker 3: new one out of one hundred green geometric we're assuming
- 1:10:12Speaker 3: out of ninety nine those breakers delight green grass refractors
- 1:10:16Speaker 3: out of ninety nine, green refractors out of ninet nine,
- 1:10:18Speaker 3: green shimmer refractors out of ninety nine. We're still going
- 1:10:21Speaker 3: here because there's reptilian green refractors also, with ninety nine
- 1:10:25Speaker 3: yellow geometrics in Breaker's delight out of seventy five, yellow
- 1:10:29Speaker 3: refractors out of seventy five, yellow wave refractors out of
- 1:10:31Speaker 3: seventy five, and yellow extractors. Just if you didn't get
- 1:10:34Speaker 3: enough yellow. We had gold too, gold geometrics out of fifty,
- 1:10:37Speaker 3: gold refractors out of fifty, gold shimmers out of fifty,
- 1:10:40Speaker 3: reptilian gold refractor out of fifty, and then we get
- 1:10:42Speaker 3: into the oranges, orange geometrics out of twenty five orange
- 1:10:45Speaker 3: refractors out of twenty five, or shimmers out of twenty
- 1:10:48Speaker 3: five reptilian orange refractors out of twenty five. Take a breath. Here,
- 1:10:52Speaker 3: we're almost there. We have pearl refractors out of twenty,
- 1:10:56Speaker 3: rose gold mini diamond refractors out of fifteen rose gold refectors,
- 1:11:00Speaker 3: black geometrics out of ten, black refractors out of ten,
- 1:11:03Speaker 3: black X fractors out of ten. Then we just decided
- 1:11:07Speaker 3: to have some fun, because why not. We have gumball
- 1:11:09Speaker 3: refractors out of ten. We have peanut refractors out of ten,
- 1:11:11Speaker 3: popcorn refractors out of ten, sunflower refractors out of ten.
- 1:11:15Speaker 3: I don't know why we couldn't get the hot dog refractors,
- 1:11:17Speaker 3: but hey, who am I to complain? Reptilian red refractors
- 1:11:20Speaker 3: out of five, red geometrics out of five, red lava
- 1:11:23Speaker 3: out of five, red refractors out of five. Don't worry,
- 1:11:27Speaker 3: we decided to squeeze one in here. You expected one
- 1:11:29Speaker 3: to one, but no fire fractors out of three. Let's
- 1:11:33Speaker 3: just try to make that a little bit complicated. Then
- 1:11:35Speaker 3: you do have superfractors in your printing plates, which are
- 1:11:38Speaker 3: actually more rare than ever because there's still only four
- 1:11:41Speaker 3: of them for the one on ones. So we got through.
- 1:11:44Speaker 3: That was a lot. I lost track a lot of time.
- 1:11:46Speaker 2: Agovo pravo.
- 1:11:49Speaker 3: That was a lot.
- 1:11:50Speaker 1: Can you guess how many different variations of chrome refractors
- 1:11:54Speaker 1: do you?
- 1:11:54Speaker 2: Just listen off?
- 1:11:55Speaker 3: It's it's gotta be forty.
- 1:11:57Speaker 2: Or fifty fifty five five? Five?
- 1:12:05Speaker 3: Oh, I was I was losing losing myself sleep there
- 1:12:10Speaker 3: there was like there was one version there that had
- 1:12:12Speaker 3: like six of the same color.
- 1:12:16Speaker 1: I just feel like every time we like doing one
- 1:12:19Speaker 1: of these setover views, we're talking about how this has
- 1:12:21Speaker 1: like jumped the shark, But.
- 1:12:23Speaker 3: Holy cow, fifty five that's like I said, go after
- 1:12:27Speaker 3: the rainbow. The colors of the rainbow have expanded.
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: Yeah, and that's not even splitting up the separate printing plate.
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: So at that point, like that would be a fifty
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: eight card rainbow. So I mean, whoo, buddy. I mean,
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: it's just gotten. It's gotten to the point of dluge
- 1:12:44Speaker 1: where it doesn't like mean anything I think. I mean,
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I think we've been past that point, but like now
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: we've just like show like totally gone past it to
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: just a level where it's just gotten unmanageable. And like,
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: I don't know if this is like this right set
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: to bust it out on, you know what I mean,
- 1:13:05Speaker 1: Like Jesus Made is not Ella de la Cruz. Charlie
- 1:13:08Speaker 1: Condon is not Paul Schemes, you know.
- 1:13:13Speaker 2: That, Like it it feels like it's gonna fall a
- 1:13:17Speaker 2: little flat. The way that the.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: Red RC logo kind of like buyback is that like
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: the hype isn't there and so like it's gonna be
- 1:13:28Speaker 1: fascinating to see I think how this set ages because,
- 1:13:31Speaker 1: like you said, the chrome base run is pretty large,
- 1:13:35Speaker 1: just because you had to fit all these cards in.
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: But like do people even care at this point, Like
- 1:13:40Speaker 1: do these things hold any value outside of color matches?
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: And I would say kind of like the core golds
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: of fifty, like.
- 1:13:50Speaker 2: The orange of twenty five, red of five.
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: Blue of one fifty that I think will always kind
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: of do well, especially given that those are always like
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: the first Bowman autos for first the one of one
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: fifty traditionally, and so maybe even purple. But I mean
- 1:14:05Speaker 1: at that point you're starting to vary a little bit
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: that like I think people are gonna always kind of
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: go back to the core refractors and colors. But like,
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: I mean, do you have a different take there?
- 1:14:17Speaker 3: Maybe no, I think you're right, Like I have notes
- 1:14:20Speaker 3: that the last year or so, I was surprised by
- 1:14:23Speaker 3: some things. I think the blues is a good example
- 1:14:25Speaker 3: where I ran across to this is in tops Chrome,
- 1:14:29Speaker 3: I ran across a wire Langford true blue refractor and
- 1:14:34Speaker 3: I was shocked at the cost of the Rookie refractor
- 1:14:36Speaker 3: was like one hundred hundred and fifty and I was like, what,
- 1:14:39Speaker 3: this doesn't make sense because I was looking at like
- 1:14:41Speaker 3: cops are much lower than that. I mean, those were
- 1:14:43Speaker 3: all the other blue variations, Like it seems like the
- 1:14:47Speaker 3: true collectors what every want to call it, like, are
- 1:14:49Speaker 3: really after the true variations. The other thing I think
- 1:14:52Speaker 3: is interesting here is I do feel like this is
- 1:14:54Speaker 3: a little bit of a self correction that the TOPS
- 1:14:57Speaker 3: is trying to do because if you look through the
- 1:14:59Speaker 3: that majority of like the new ones here, they're in
- 1:15:02Speaker 3: the hobby product, very specifically in the Hobby product. A
- 1:15:06Speaker 3: lot of things are across all different kinds of boxes.
- 1:15:09Speaker 3: But I think what they've they've recognized is over the
- 1:15:12Speaker 3: last few years, as they've kind of increased the print
- 1:15:14Speaker 3: runs and they haven't increased the the inserts like this,
- 1:15:18Speaker 3: which I mean they have, but not to this degree,
- 1:15:20Speaker 3: it's been harder and harder to go through a box.
- 1:15:23Speaker 3: And I think Herriage is a good example. I think
- 1:15:24Speaker 3: we talked about this of Heritage coming out, like it
- 1:15:27Speaker 3: was so hard to actually hit any inserts that you're like,
- 1:15:30Speaker 3: why am I opening? This is literally just a box
- 1:15:32Speaker 3: all base cards with one autographer a relic. And I
- 1:15:35Speaker 3: think they've tried to kind of fix that. So when
- 1:15:37Speaker 3: you do open that hobby box, you are getting almost
- 1:15:40Speaker 3: something in every pack that's interesting, that's color that it
- 1:15:43Speaker 3: feels like a shot at like Haesus made first. That's
- 1:15:47Speaker 3: out of eight thousand, like it's you know, it's it's
- 1:15:50Speaker 3: feels like they're trying to overcorrect there, because like I said,
- 1:15:53Speaker 3: when I looked at the majority of these, there's a
- 1:15:55Speaker 3: few out of the breakers delight, but the vast majority
- 1:15:57Speaker 3: of the things that are in one product, it's in hobby.
- 1:16:01Speaker 3: And that's really where like all those like gumball and
- 1:16:04Speaker 3: some flowers and popcorn, they're they're in hobby. All of
- 1:16:08Speaker 3: your orange they're only in hobby. Your pearls are in hobby,
- 1:16:13Speaker 3: like you have a lot of that. I think your
- 1:16:14Speaker 3: extractors are actually not your extractors. A few of your blue,
- 1:16:18Speaker 3: your your ray waves are only in hobby. So it
- 1:16:22Speaker 3: does feel like they're trying to overcome what we talked
- 1:16:25Speaker 3: about earlier of the price of pain for one auto
- 1:16:28Speaker 3: by filling in some of these additional pieces that should
- 1:16:31Speaker 3: generate some demand.
- 1:16:33Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, I think that that all. I totally agree
- 1:16:36Speaker 2: that all makes sense.
- 1:16:37Speaker 1: Let's get into some of the inserts that are in
- 1:16:39Speaker 1: this set, just because I do think that that's where
- 1:16:43Speaker 1: a lot of the intrigue is going to be. You
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: obviously have the standard kind of ultimate autograph book checklist
- 1:16:50Speaker 1: or like the book card that is in every Bowman
- 1:16:54Speaker 1: product where it's just like every who's Who of prospects,
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: that is like the ultimate chase from You're also going
- 1:17:01Speaker 1: to have, like we said, those on card rookies autos
- 1:17:05Speaker 1: of Rookie Sasaki. You're gonna have the Charlie Condone first
- 1:17:08Speaker 1: in all the Hazes mades. The other one that I
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: think is going to be the significant chase card here
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: is actually a variation of the popular anime inserts. So
- 1:17:22Speaker 1: the anime inserts are what they sound like. They're kind
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: of like little cartoon anime mockups of different players, and
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: they've kind of traditionally played around with the framing, you know,
- 1:17:33Speaker 1: putting in on like a TV or something. And I
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: think this has been going now for just like two
- 1:17:40Speaker 1: years now in Bowman products, but they've really upped the
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: anti here in terms of the Kanji variation, where there's
- 1:17:48Speaker 1: only going to be four of those players that are
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: in the Kanji variation of those anime cards, and you're
- 1:17:55Speaker 1: looking at all you're looking at all Japanese players. You're
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: looking at Eierro, Rookie, Sasaki, Hitdeki, Matsui, Shohetani, very limited
- 1:18:05Speaker 1: print runs one and very four hundred and fifty one
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: and sixty hobby packs. That works out to about six
- 1:18:12Speaker 1: of these apiece. These are gonna be hot cards. So
- 1:18:15Speaker 1: I mean it could be an easy one to miss too,
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: because I don't think that they're gonna be numbered. They
- 1:18:20Speaker 1: will be flipped around most likely, but certainly check it
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: if you are getting any of those anime inserts while
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: you're out there chasing Bowman twenty twenty five ripping those packs.
- 1:18:30Speaker 1: If you've got the Kanji variation, I mean, these things
- 1:18:33Speaker 1: are gonna be especially those Otani's and those Eiros and Sasaki's.
- 1:18:36Speaker 1: I've met Sui. Obviously there's gonna be interest. Just give
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: him the set. But like he's not on the same
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: star tier as those other three, uh. I mean, you're
- 1:18:45Speaker 1: looking at a couple thousand bucks, I think, if not
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: a little more, because especially the Sasaki market on this
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: for rookie card is gonna be bananas.
- 1:18:54Speaker 2: And so I do like this, What about you.
- 1:18:57Speaker 3: Yeah, I do. I think it's I was actually trying
- 1:18:59Speaker 3: to look to seef any of the Do you think
- 1:19:16Speaker 3: that that they did a good job with this. They've
- 1:19:18Speaker 3: really hit hit it off with the anime car cards.
- 1:19:21Speaker 3: I think it hits various different types of collectors. Collectors
- 1:19:26Speaker 3: that like the unique cards, the collectors that are kind
- 1:19:28Speaker 3: of a cross between I would say, the anime comic type,
- 1:19:33Speaker 3: you know, even like your Pokemon type parts in the
- 1:19:36Speaker 3: hobby that overlap with your true sports card collectors. So
- 1:19:41Speaker 3: I think they do a good job with this one,
- 1:19:43Speaker 3: and it's gonna be attractive set. They're not cheap. There's
- 1:19:47Speaker 3: not many of them, even the base anime ones there
- 1:19:50Speaker 3: are only about two hundred you expected those, and then
- 1:19:53Speaker 3: there are some of the variations and the black reds
- 1:19:55Speaker 3: and super fractors of those. So definitely definitely an attractive
- 1:19:58Speaker 3: an attractive card.
- 1:20:00Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I think they're gonna be They're gonna be
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: fun to see other insts that we've got here. We've
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: got Spotlights is back. I mean, I don't think Spotlights
- 1:20:08Speaker 1: is ever going to go anywhere. People love them if
- 1:20:10Speaker 1: you're not familiar with it, it's what it sounds like.
- 1:20:12Speaker 1: It's just like the player highlighted underneath the spotlight, all
- 1:20:17Speaker 1: kind of framed up underneath it on a black background,
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: just really sharp card.
- 1:20:21Speaker 2: It's I love it.
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: You've also got the traditional Bowman Scout's Top one hundred,
- 1:20:25Speaker 1: which is all the top one hundred prospects all in
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: one checklist. Very popular one to put together.
- 1:20:31Speaker 2: All in order. Rookie of the Year favorites is back.
- 1:20:35Speaker 2: I just I like them.
- 1:20:36Speaker 1: I think they're goofy, especially seeing some of the lower
- 1:20:39Speaker 1: end Rookie of the Year favorites that are in that set.
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: My standout new favorite one of the set is rock
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: Star Rookies, which it's corny, like it's what it is.
- 1:20:51Speaker 2: It's the player like on a.
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: Stage of like a rock concert, and it is kind
- 1:20:58Speaker 1: of like hits that sweet spot of like corniness that
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: I like that kind of stadium club has always hit
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: over the years too. So any of these other inserts
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: really kind of stand out for you as ones that
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: you're going to be trying to highlight and maybe pick
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: up the entire set, or ones that like you just
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: kind of get a good chuckle out of ripping that, Like,
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: I think that's what inserts are good for too. Is
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: just to kind of mix it up a little bit
- 1:21:21Speaker 1: from all the base that you're you're sorting through.
- 1:21:24Speaker 3: Yeah, So, so there's one I want to talk about
- 1:21:27Speaker 3: is I think it's new and it's it's intriguing. But
- 1:21:31Speaker 3: before I do that, I just want to call out
- 1:21:32Speaker 3: the Rockstar Rookies. Here feels really hokey until you find
- 1:21:36Speaker 3: Dylan Cruz's Rockstar Rookies. So please go look at that
- 1:21:39Speaker 3: one while I talk, because it's it's the only guy
- 1:21:44Speaker 3: that I've seen so far that looks like a rock
- 1:21:46Speaker 3: star on his Rockstar card. But the one I wanted
- 1:21:49Speaker 3: to call out was your crystallized cards. This is a
- 1:21:53Speaker 3: new one. There are I think three hundred and fifty
- 1:21:57Speaker 3: of these in the check list. There's only fifteen cards.
- 1:22:02Speaker 3: They come in gold, orange, red, and Super Factor variations,
- 1:22:05Speaker 3: and it's all all big names. It's made is Jack
- 1:22:08Speaker 3: kig Leone, Travis Bazon, Kobe Mayo, Barcelo, Mayo, Mayor Weather, Holt,
- 1:22:18Speaker 3: James Wood, Rookie Sasaki, all all those guys. But what
- 1:22:21Speaker 3: these cards are, it's kind of like a color splash
- 1:22:25Speaker 3: from you know, some of the Pinini Project products. But
- 1:22:29Speaker 3: it is a card that kind of if you have
- 1:22:32Speaker 3: ever cut a crystal in half, a rock crystal in half,
- 1:22:36Speaker 3: and you can see all the wonderful colors inside that
- 1:22:39Speaker 3: kind of come out of that. It is. That's the background,
- 1:22:42Speaker 3: and it's like these refractors with his amazing look to it.
- 1:22:47Speaker 3: And so far they are selling way above anime prices
- 1:22:52Speaker 3: even though they have almost double the print run of it.
- 1:22:56Speaker 3: You're there's only a few out here, but you're dealing
- 1:22:58Speaker 3: crews sold for three hundred and eighty James Wood three fifty.
- 1:23:02Speaker 3: Some of the first ones Travis Bozana hit sold for
- 1:23:05Speaker 3: over five hundred. They are really attractive cards. In that background.
- 1:23:13Speaker 3: The only other thing on there is the Bowman chrome logo.
- 1:23:16Speaker 3: The other thing is full color the entire card. There's
- 1:23:18Speaker 3: no frame, there's no nothing else on there, and it
- 1:23:21Speaker 3: they just absolutely pop. So I think that's gonna be
- 1:23:23Speaker 3: a very very popular chase for this set. So made
- 1:23:28Speaker 3: that call before you comment on Crystallized. Did you find
- 1:23:31Speaker 3: Dylan Cruz on his Rockstar card? Did I oversell it
- 1:23:35Speaker 3: to you?
- 1:23:36Speaker 2: No, that's a perfect card.
- 1:23:38Speaker 1: I don't know notes on that one that it's when
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: he's jumping into a celebration and he's squared up on
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: the stage. It does look like he's singing and performing
- 1:23:46Speaker 1: perfect perfect photo. Honestly, I wish they'd maybe found like
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: other ones that the other players within the set that
- 1:23:52Speaker 1: like they're a little bit more like baseball actioning.
- 1:23:54Speaker 2: But it would have been cool if they had found
- 1:23:56Speaker 2: like stuff that looked more rockstarry.
- 1:23:58Speaker 3: But you nailed it, Rokie Susaki, like, yes, rocking out
- 1:24:03Speaker 3: or something like that, maybe with a wig, I don't know,
- 1:24:06Speaker 3: but yeah, Dylan Cruz like he nailed it.
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: Yeah, And same thing on those crystallized cards. They are
- 1:24:13Speaker 1: super sharp. I think they're gonna be very popular. I
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: mean they just also look great for displaying. That's always
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: gonna look fantastic when you can put that on a
- 1:24:21Speaker 1: shelf and like have the light hit it the right way,
- 1:24:23Speaker 1: that it's gonna really pop in real life. I should
- 1:24:27Speaker 1: also say that go to rasball dot com click on
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: the link to this post for the pod so you'll
- 1:24:32Speaker 1: be able to see some of these cards that we're describing.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: You don't have to just listen to us kind of
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: fumble around for the artistic words on the fly in
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: this podcast. Put some eyeballs to the actual cards by
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: going to rasball dot com. And you'll be able to
- 1:24:44Speaker 1: see them for yourself. We do this every time there's
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: a checklist overview to make sure that you can actually
- 1:24:50Speaker 1: see some of the cards that you're listening to us
- 1:24:52Speaker 1: talk about as well, because there's another kind of thing
- 1:24:56Speaker 1: that we need to get into here on Bowman, because
- 1:24:59Speaker 1: it's another jump shark moment. I think where they've been
- 1:25:02Speaker 1: doing this now since we especially have been covering cards
- 1:25:06Speaker 1: and having our podcast is the retro Factors. Actually said
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: this earlier in the pod in terms of like I
- 1:25:14Speaker 1: meant to say, just like super Fractor said retro Fractor,
- 1:25:16Speaker 1: because this was on my mind. Originally it was like,
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: was it Pete Rose in Roberto Clemente? Maybe no Is
- 1:25:24Speaker 1: Babe Ruth was one of the original ones and Roberto Clemente.
- 1:25:29Speaker 1: And so what we've realized is they started putting these
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: into every Bowman product where they have a quote unquote
- 1:25:37Speaker 1: first of some Hall of Fame player, and we recognize
- 1:25:44Speaker 1: very prescient of us. If you go back to the
- 1:25:46Speaker 1: first time that we covered the Bowman release back in
- 1:25:49Speaker 1: twenty twenty four, actually I think it was in Bowman
- 1:25:52Speaker 1: Draft twenty twenty three. Even that, like we called right
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: off the bat like this thing's gonna go down hill
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: pretty fast. And I think we already reaching that tipping
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: point because the two retrofractors for this year in this
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: product are Steve Carlton and Brooks Robinson, which, don't get
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: me wrong, fantastic players. Great players had their collectors' markets
- 1:26:13Speaker 1: out there, Nobody cares about these.
- 1:26:16Speaker 2: I don't think that.
- 1:26:19Speaker 3: I'll give Brooks a little bit more over Carlton because
- 1:26:22Speaker 3: at least Brooks was generally you know, he like he
- 1:26:24Speaker 3: was an oriole like he he like, but Carlton was
- 1:26:27Speaker 3: like was he a Philly? Was he a Cardinal? Like
- 1:26:30Speaker 3: there was a little bit of that, So like.
- 1:26:32Speaker 1: Yeah, I'm kind of a terrible person too, Steve Carlton
- 1:26:34Speaker 1: was I gonna go there?
- 1:26:36Speaker 3: But sure? Why not? Like yeah, I think like even
- 1:26:40Speaker 3: between the two, I just feels like there's a drop
- 1:26:43Speaker 3: off of Like I mean, you were stretching with Carlton here,
- 1:26:45Speaker 3: Like I feel like we could have found somebody like
- 1:26:47Speaker 3: where was like Christy Matthewson or Lefty Grove or like
- 1:26:51Speaker 3: there's so many other guys that you could have gone
- 1:26:54Speaker 3: with and gone way back, and you picked Steve Carlton,
- 1:26:57Speaker 3: Like I just didn't feel right, this is the only
- 1:27:00Speaker 3: had a color photo there. I don't know.
- 1:27:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, I'm going back to my demand that
- 1:27:05Speaker 1: last time we've talked about this. I want like King Kelly,
- 1:27:07Speaker 1: I want old Hoss Radbourne, I want I want either
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: dead ball er guys or I want negro leagues players.
- 1:27:15Speaker 2: They did do a Josh Gibson.
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: Which I think was it a popular one, but they
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: need to keep kind of finding the history niches as
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: opposed to hitting I think more of seventies and eighties guys,
- 1:27:27Speaker 1: where like there's a million cards of Steve Carlton and
- 1:27:30Speaker 1: Brooks Robbinson out there. We don't need to be adding
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: to that pile. Let's actually use this platform to highlight
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: lesser known players or players that like have been great
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: and just like just haven't had cards because they weren't
- 1:27:45Speaker 1: actually like around when baseball cards were a thing. So
- 1:27:50Speaker 1: I know, who knows, maybe one day somebody from fanatics
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: and tops will listen to one of these pods. That
- 1:27:56Speaker 1: is my plea to you, honestly, bring us on board.
- 1:27:59Speaker 1: I bet we can pick some really great retro fractors,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: get some good stories, or at least like reach out
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: to Saber or something to like figure out I think
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: a better way to enhance this run because it's not.
- 1:28:13Speaker 2: Un like sexy.
- 1:28:14Speaker 1: I would say that, like you can actually like it
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: can be fun, but like you can't be doing guys
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: like Steve Carlton and Brooks Robinson where it's just like
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: all right, like it's it's the kind of the type
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: of player where when you pull them out of like
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: a tops heritage and you get their bass card or
- 1:28:32Speaker 1: an archives, you're like cool, like, I guess it's a
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Hall of Famer, But is it sort of thing?
- 1:28:38Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, I'm with you, and I just I
- 1:28:40Speaker 3: was just looking up for fun. Why can't we do
- 1:28:44Speaker 3: old hoss red like I mean it so, I don't
- 1:28:48Speaker 3: know if you've looked at his stats, because.
- 1:28:50Speaker 2: Old I look at them honestly, like every other day.
- 1:28:54Speaker 3: It's like so for those that aren't from familiar and
- 1:28:58Speaker 3: part of the reason that he is a close tie
- 1:29:00Speaker 3: to us as we're both from the same uh. I
- 1:29:03Speaker 3: was a mid sized town and that's actually where he
- 1:29:07Speaker 3: ultimately passed away, buried like.
- 1:29:10Speaker 2: He's buried in Bloomington.
- 1:29:11Speaker 3: No nice, he's buried Bloomington. He pitched for eleven years
- 1:29:16Speaker 3: and he won three hundred and ten games. His his
- 1:29:18Speaker 3: career year was eighteen eighty four. He won sixty games
- 1:29:22Speaker 3: because he threw six hundred and seventy eight innings.
- 1:29:25Speaker 2: Yes, I love it.
- 1:29:28Speaker 3: And he he started seventy three games and he had
- 1:29:33Speaker 3: seventy three complete games. Like this, This guy is just phenomenal.
- 1:29:39Speaker 3: And you know, the funny thing is that they had
- 1:29:41Speaker 3: fIF back then. If you didn't know that, No, they
- 1:29:43Speaker 3: didn't really have it back then with a one thirty
- 1:29:45Speaker 3: eight year ra It was a two seventy five fIF
- 1:29:47Speaker 3: So he hasn't luck anymore. Yeah, sure I didn't find
- 1:29:50Speaker 3: his baby.
- 1:29:52Speaker 2: Yeah, there wasn't.
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: There wasn't enough time over the all those innings for
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: the luck to sort out.
- 1:29:59Speaker 3: A parent. Apparently not. But that like that's the kind
- 1:30:02Speaker 3: of thing that like would just like I feel like
- 1:30:05Speaker 3: the hobby would go crazy for like these fictional characters
- 1:30:09Speaker 3: like give me Bill Spaceman League, like give me give
- 1:30:12Speaker 3: me these like larger than life like characters. I you know,
- 1:30:16Speaker 3: I think you can really take a left turn before
- 1:30:23Speaker 3: you start going down, like the see Carlton round Brooks
- 1:30:26Speaker 3: Robinson again, fantastic players. Don't get don't get me wrong,
- 1:30:29Speaker 3: but I think the hobby loves their cult heroes, and
- 1:30:33Speaker 3: I think that that's you know, really where that the
- 1:30:36Speaker 3: they need to be leaning in going forward.
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: Yeah, And I think that's what like kind of keeps
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: the heart of the hobby going forward. Is like that
- 1:30:44Speaker 1: sort of like speaking to the nerd and just kind
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: of like the history aspect of baseball and also just
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: fun as opposed to it being a gambling like sort
- 1:30:55Speaker 1: of outlet. That like, that's I think a lot of
- 1:30:58Speaker 1: like what it boils down to that the cards will
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: hold I think, better value if people have fun with
- 1:31:04Speaker 1: them as opposed to trying to use them as investments
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: or slot machines.
- 1:31:09Speaker 3: So yeah, I mean, give me, give me a Al
- 1:31:12Speaker 3: Roboski and Mad hungaryan card. Yeah, like I mean, I mean, sorry,
- 1:31:16Speaker 3: he just got inducted in the Cardinals Hall of Fame
- 1:31:17Speaker 3: this past best we can or name not fully inducted whatever.
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: Yeah, but like some Rusty Koonts and Dick Pole, like
- 1:31:26Speaker 1: you can really go somewhere there.
- 1:31:29Speaker 3: There are so many, so many options that you're missing
- 1:31:32Speaker 3: out on.
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: All right, Well, who if you had it on your
- 1:31:37Speaker 1: Bingo card that we were going to go into twenty
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: twenty five Bowman and then end up down Old Hoss
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: Radbourne discussion.
- 1:31:44Speaker 2: Congratulations you win.
- 1:31:46Speaker 3: But the Betty Dolls were that were slim. But if
- 1:31:49Speaker 3: there was going to be somebody to do it, you
- 1:31:50Speaker 3: know the pod, yes exactly, but I think that gives
- 1:31:54Speaker 3: a great overview of Bowman twenty twenty five. Here.
