- 0:00Speaker 1: What's up, everyone, and welcome back to the Epstein Chronicles.
- 0:05The situation in the US Virgin Islands is getting worse
- 0:08than worse by the day for the officials of the
- 0:12US Virgin Islands and that's because they're being called out
- 0:16on their own BS by JP Morgan right now. And
- 0:19who would have thought that it would be JP Morgan
- 0:22of all entities to come riding in and call the
- 0:25US Virgin Islands exactly what they are, and that is
- 0:29people who enabled Jeffrey Epstein's BS, and for the elected
- 0:33officials who were in charge at the time to even
- 0:36attempt to try and distance themselves instead of taking responsibility
- 0:40for the decisions that were made in regard to Jeffrey Epstein,
- 0:44they're just making themselves look worse and worse. And that
- 0:47whole that we talked about them digging for themselves, oh,
- 0:50I don't know two years ago, is getting deeper and deeper.
- 0:54More people are starting to get hip to the fact
- 0:56that the US Virgin Islands is not an entity that's
- 1:00interested in solely pursuing justice here. What they're interested in
- 1:04is making a few more bucks, and not only from
- 1:07Jeffrey Epstein's BS, but on the back end of that
- 1:10BS as well, So they double dipped into what should
- 1:14be survivor's money. So how anyone can look at this
- 1:18and say, you know what, what the US Virgin Islands
- 1:20is doing is righteous and they should be compensated. My
- 1:24response to that is, how the hell can anyone believe
- 1:28that this group should be compensated for what happened down here.
- 1:32It's not like they showed up at Epstein's island, kicked
- 1:35in the door and arrested everybody. They showed up to
- 1:38the party late, and not only that, they showed up
- 1:41to the party empty handed. Today's article is from Fortune
- 1:46and the headline sex trafficker Jeffrey Epstein had close ties
- 1:50to US Virgin Island's first family, including paying college tuition
- 1:54for their children. This article was authored by Anthony Lynn
- 1:59and Bloomberg. So everything we know about Epstein, would that
- 2:02lead us to believe that he did this out of
- 2:05the kindness of his heart? Or was he doing this
- 2:08because he expected something on the back end? And what
- 2:11was that something on the back end? Well, he wanted
- 2:14more favorable laws as far as being a sex offender
- 2:17on the books in the US Virgin Islands. Thankfully, the
- 2:21other officials that weren't in his pocket, weren't down with it,
- 2:25and the help that he got from the former First
- 2:27Lady wasn't enough to push his bullshit over the finish line.
- 2:31But just the simple fact that these conversations occurred between
- 2:35Jeffrey Epstein and the former First Lady of the US
- 2:39Virgin Islands is something that should be very concerning for
- 2:43anybody who is paying attention to what's going on, and
- 2:46it should also lead people to ask themselves why the
- 2:49US Virgin Islands is entitled to even one single cent.
- 2:53Jeffrey Epstein paid tuition for the children of the US
- 2:57Virgin Islands Governor and First Lady include at New York
- 3:01Skidmore College, JP Morgan, Chase and Company said in a
- 3:05court filing, and to reiterate about JP Morgan and Chase,
- 3:09they showed up here with a very powerful legal team,
- 3:13and they're not going to sit back and let the
- 3:15US Virgin Islands control the narrative. What they're going to
- 3:19do is they're going to come out with their own
- 3:21accusations and their own stories about how the US Virgin
- 3:25Island officials were complicit with what Epstein was up to,
- 3:29and the sad part is, it's not like they're making
- 3:31this stuff up. It's not like JP Morgan is sitting
- 3:35here and they're coming up with all of these far
- 3:38fetched fairy tales. All of this stuff was known to us.
- 3:41JP Morgan is now just pointing it out. Cecile DeJong,
- 3:46wife of then US VI Governor Jean de Jong Junior,
- 3:50sent Epstein in August twenty eleven email with the subject line,
- 3:54please approve attaching a twenty five thousand dollars tuition bill
- 3:59for Skidmore, a private liberal arts college in Saratoga Springs,
- 4:03New York. The email is among dozens of previously sealed
- 4:07documents the bank filed late Wednesday in Manhattan Federal Court. So, look,
- 4:12all of this stuff is backed up by documentation. So
- 4:15it's not like JP Morgan is just asserting that they
- 4:18paid the tuition. Here, they obviously paid the tuition, and
- 4:21they have the receipts to prove that that tuition was
- 4:24paid by Jeffrey Epstein. And in my opinion, that alone
- 4:28should have the whole entire lawsuit that the USVII is
- 4:31bringing against JP Morgan tossed. You had your own officials.
- 4:35The first lady of the territory in the pocket of
- 4:39Jeffrey Epstein. How are you going to tell the bank
- 4:42that they should have done more. Here's an idea. You
- 4:45both should have done more. And now that JP Morgan
- 4:48is paying the two hundred and ninety million dollars fine,
- 4:50it's time for the US Virgin Islands to accept their
- 4:53role in enabling what Jeffrey Epstein was up to for
- 4:56all of these years. Will they do it? Of course not.
- 5:00You to tell everybody that they were the victim and
- 5:02they're the arbiters of justice when it comes to this case.
- 5:06But if that were true, this would be a RICO
- 5:08case in the US Virgin Islands and not a SECO case.
- 5:12JP Morgan is fighting a lawsuit by the USVII accusing
- 5:16it of facilitating Epstein's sex trafficking. The bank is defending itself,
- 5:21in part by alleging the USVII government did far more
- 5:25to aid the crimes of Epstein, who had a private
- 5:27island to retreat Little Saint James there. Look, there's no
- 5:31doubt that the US Virgin Islands did their part to
- 5:35enable what Epstein was up to, and there's no doubt
- 5:38that without JP Morgan and the financial bullshit. They were
- 5:42helping Epstein with that. They're liable as well. So it's
- 5:45funny to me to watch both of these groups sit
- 5:48here and talk about who is more guilty. Meanwhile, the
- 5:51whole world knows both groups are guilty and both groups
- 5:55should pay the price. Unfortunately, it doesn't look like the
- 5:58US Virgin Islands is ever going to be held to
- 6:00account here, and what they're going to do probably is
- 6:04end up with another settlement. And I just find it
- 6:08so vile that all of these unnamed women out there
- 6:11aren't going to receive one cent, but the US Virgin
- 6:14Islands is going to have two multi hundred million dollar paydays.
- 6:18And I hate to keep harping on this, but it
- 6:20really discussed me. JP Morgan accused of Seal DeJong, who
- 6:24worked as an office manager for Epstein, in a May filing,
- 6:27of acting as his primary conduit for spreading money and
- 6:31influence throughout the USVII, but the emails released on Wednesday
- 6:36provide additional details, underscoring the closeness of their relationship. The
- 6:42latest filing also indicates that JP Morgan is continuing to
- 6:46vigorously fight the USVII suit, even after announcing Monday that
- 6:51it had agreed to settle a similar lawsuit by victims
- 6:54of Epstein's abuse for two hundred and ninety million, and
- 6:57there was no way that they were ever going to
- 6:59fight Epstein's accusers and survivors in a court over this money.
- 7:04They knew that they were cooked, and they knew that
- 7:07these ladies have already received all this money from the
- 7:10compensation fund, so they were up against it. It was
- 7:14bad press, long litigation, and the clincher it was certified
- 7:19as a class action suit. So once that happens, it
- 7:23becomes even more expensive. So JP Morgan, they sat back
- 7:27and said, you know what, let's just cut these ladies
- 7:29to check and keep it moving. Well, that's not gonna
- 7:32happen with the US Virgin Islands because the US Virgin
- 7:35Islands was complicit. I don't know how else to put it,
- 7:39but that's what happened. All of the information we have,
- 7:43all of the evidence we have from all of these years,
- 7:46leads us to one place, and that's the US Virgin
- 7:49Islands could have done more to stop Jeffrey Epstein. Instead,
- 7:52what they did was profit from his nonsense and from
- 7:56his great wealth. Now on the back end of that
- 7:59you're going to set yourself up as the victim. Huh. Well,
- 8:02Unfortunately for the US Virgin Islands, some of us have
- 8:06been paying attention. The USVII is asking the judge to
- 8:10stop JP Morgan from asserting and unclean hands defense, arguing
- 8:14that doctrine doesn't apply to government actors. Neither Djong nor
- 8:19a lawyer for the USVII responded to requests for comment
- 8:22on Thursday. So what's the USVII going to do if
- 8:26a survivor decides they want to sue them? Are they
- 8:29going to fight the survivor in court and try and
- 8:31argue that the survivors in the wrong for trying to
- 8:34get restitution after they were abused while Cecile de Jong
- 8:39was playing patty cake with Epstein. I'd love to see
- 8:42how a judge rules on that, and boy, I'd love
- 8:45to see a Jerry get it. A spokeswoman for the
- 8:47USVII Attorney General's Office said last month that JP Morgan,
- 8:52which had a legal responsibility to report the evidence in
- 8:55its possession of Epstein's human trafficking, was trying to shift
- 8:59blame to the territory. According to JP Morgan, the tuition
- 9:03paid by Epstein for Dejong's children, pushed your compensation as
- 9:07office manager to two hundred thousand dollars in two thousand
- 9:11and nine. Two hundred grand to be an office manager
- 9:14in the US Virgin Islands. Huh, sounds like a hell
- 9:17of a deal. Where do I sign up for that gig?
- 9:20A year's tuition at Skidmore currently costs about sixty five grand,
- 9:23not including room and board, according to the school's website.
- 9:28The bank claims that in return, she provided him access
- 9:31to the usvi's political elite, who gave him valuable tax
- 9:35benefits and even allowed him to participate in debate about
- 9:39laws that might affect him offenders and predators. In a
- 9:44May twenty eleven email exchange included in the JP Morgan
- 9:48court filing, Epstein and DeJong discussed the usvi's plans to
- 9:53update its sex offender registration laws to discuss the bills
- 9:57possible impact on him. Epstein was registered in the US
- 10:02as a sex offender following his two thousand and eight
- 10:04conviction for soliciting a minor for prostitution. And also keep
- 10:09in mind that the reason he chose New Mexico, or
- 10:12one of the reasons, is for the same thing, he
- 10:14didn't have to register as a top end sex offender.
- 10:18Epstein suggested that the USVII might revise the law to
- 10:22more narrowly apply to predators, a category from which he
- 10:25apparently excluded himself. Maybe we should distinguish between offenders and predators,
- 10:32Epstein wrote in the email to DeJong. He also said
- 10:35that a provision for waivers from the law's requirements should
- 10:39be broader to avoid affecting his privacy and his business.
- 10:43So this guy was getting all these favors or trying
- 10:46to get all these favors from Cecil DeJong. But at
- 10:49the same time, the US Virgin Islands has the audacity
- 10:53to say that JP Morgan should have stopped Epstein. Well,
- 10:56what about USVII. This lady was married to the governor
- 11:01of the territory. You want to talk about having power
- 11:04to stop something, how about whispering a few words in
- 11:07your husband's ear while you guys are lounging around. But
- 11:10that would cut into the bottom line, right, So they
- 11:12can't do that. And now that the chickens are coming
- 11:16home to roost, the US Virgin Islands is looking for cover.
- 11:20They don't want these allegations out there. Unfortunately for them,
- 11:24they've been out there forever and now they're just getting
- 11:27legs because JP Morgan is providing some receipts. It's not
- 11:32clear how widely the email was shared, though Dejong's reply
- 11:36as if Epstein wanted to wait for other people to respond.
- 11:40She later wrote that the matter needs to be settled
- 11:43in a few days because the Attorney General needed to
- 11:46submit something by the end of the month. Don't want
- 11:49to email back and forth, she added, yeah, no paper trail.
- 11:52Last thing she wants to do is leave evidence so
- 11:55that later on down the road we can find it
- 11:58like we're doing now. According to JP Morgan, Epstein wasn't
- 12:02happy with the law that passed in June of twenty twelve,
- 12:06and DeJong promised she would find ways to get him
- 12:09around the restrictions. According to the emails released on Wednesday night,
- 12:13the two express frustration that a USVI politician identified only
- 12:18as Russell had betrayed them. So Russell, whoever that is,
- 12:22is somebody that should be padded on the back. I
- 12:25know this is a horrible week and I'm really sorry
- 12:28about how things panned out, DeJong wrote. Not being able
- 12:31to take someone at their word is incredibly frustrating. In
- 12:35a likely reference to her husband, she said Russell had
- 12:38screwed John on another bill, but said they could work
- 12:41with other politicians and officials to give the discretion for
- 12:45status quo for you. So she's saying, in her own
- 12:49words that she can get other politicians to help change
- 12:53the laws to better fit Jeffrey Epstein's disgusting patterns of
- 12:57being a predator. So tell me again how the US
- 13:00Virgin Islands should get one dollar? Did the ladies enroll?
- 13:05Some of the other emails detailed Dejong's efforts to help
- 13:09Epstein obtain student visas for young women by arranging their
- 13:13enrollment at the University of the Virgin Islands. Did the
- 13:17Ladies enroll? DeJong followed up with Epstein in a June
- 13:20twenty thirteen email, it is not too late for the
- 13:23fall semester. As we discussed, they need to go down
- 13:26and enroll and show the ability to pay. Epstein was
- 13:30a client at JP Morgan between nineteen ninety eight and
- 13:33twenty thirteen, when the bank cut ties with the financier pedophile.
- 13:39JP Morgan has highlighted that Epstein's ties with the USVII
- 13:43government continued far longer. One twenty seventeen email shows Epstein
- 13:48communicating directly with the usvii's Environmental commissioner about the aftermath
- 13:53of a hurricane and the territory's likely need for money.
- 13:58In an October twenty nineteen email, a few months after
- 14:01Epstein was arrested for sex trafficking and was subsequently found
- 14:04dead in his Manhattan jail cell, a group of USVI
- 14:08officials communicated about an inquiry from The New York Times
- 14:12about tax incentives Epstein was given by the territory. I
- 14:16personally think the questions are opening us up to public scrutiny.
- 14:20USVI official Margherita Benjamin wrote, Well, no shit, Margherita, of
- 14:25course they are. You were in bed with Epstein. You
- 14:28folks were down there helping him out, letting him do
- 14:31whatever he wants. And now, and knowing all of that,
- 14:35you should have been happy with one hundred and five
- 14:36million that you scored from the estate. But greed has
- 14:40led the US Virgin Islands to come back to the
- 14:42trough for a little bit more and it might end
- 14:45up being their undoing. All right, folks, that's going to
- 14:49do it for this one. All of the information that
- 14:51goes with the episode can be found in the description box.
