- 0:00Speaker 1: This is the Ben and Ashley I Almost Famous podcast
- 0:03Speaker 1: with iHeartRadio. We're here, it's the holidays, and we're so
- 0:08Speaker 1: pumped to be celebrating with all of you. It's almost
- 0:10Speaker 1: Famous podcasts. We are celebrating the holidays from where.
- 0:13Speaker 2: Ashley the Bachelor Mansion. So Ben and I wanted to
- 0:17Speaker 2: do a quick little holiday episode where we're gonna do
- 0:19Speaker 2: like rapid fire questions for each other. This is something
- 0:22Speaker 2: we've never done in all the six years we've done
- 0:24Speaker 2: the show, and it's gonna be really fun. I'm gonna
- 0:26Speaker 2: start it out, Ben, are you ready?
- 0:27Speaker 1: I'm ready?
- 0:28Speaker 2: What's your favorite holiday movie? For your Christmas movie?
- 0:31Speaker 1: Santa Claus with timme Ellen, The Santa Claus. The Santa Claus.
- 0:34Speaker 1: It is absolutely fantastic. It gets me in the spirit
- 0:38Speaker 1: I have. I know it's supposed to be answering these quickly.
- 0:41Speaker 2: No, no, no, it has to be that rapid.
- 0:43Speaker 1: I have been watching Home Alone to get our season started,
- 0:46Speaker 1: because that's Jessica's favorite and she is a holiday connoisseur
- 0:52Speaker 1: of movies, and so we start with that. Then we'll
- 0:54Speaker 1: watch The Santa Claus and then it's kind of free games,
- 0:56Speaker 1: just watch whatever we want. To watch them there.
- 0:58Speaker 2: Okay, So for us, I've always said it was like
- 1:02Speaker 2: a tie between elf and home alone, And now that
- 1:06Speaker 2: I get older, it's home alone certainly. Why is that
- 1:10Speaker 2: it feels more nostalgic? I guess, like I I guess
- 1:14Speaker 2: I get thrown more to the nineties than the two thousands,
- 1:17Speaker 2: and like nineties christmases are really childhood christmases, and it's
- 1:21Speaker 2: just like just the general nineties vibe in it. It's
- 1:23Speaker 2: so so comforting. I just want it to be a
- 1:25Speaker 2: little bit more comforting. Now, are you love actually or
- 1:28Speaker 2: are you the Holiday just either? I'm gonna throw this
- 1:32Speaker 2: microphone into this forehead. Wait what Eason grab a MiG?
- 1:36Speaker 2: You think this is outrighteous?
- 1:37Speaker 1: Don't you?
- 1:38Speaker 2: Producer? Easan's on the line.
- 1:40Speaker 1: You haven't seen either one?
- 1:42Speaker 2: No wait, you just said that your wife is a
- 1:44Speaker 2: is a holiday movie connoisseur.
- 1:46Speaker 1: You watched a lot of them during like Thursday night football.
- 1:49Speaker 2: You must watch both of them, and you need to
- 1:52Speaker 2: report back because Jared and I this is like our
- 1:54Speaker 2: yearly debate on which one's better. He likes them, I
- 1:57Speaker 2: do both like them both, but I I am definitely
- 2:00Speaker 2: team the Holiday. Wow, your team of actually Oh my.
- 2:04Speaker 1: Gosh, holidays weird. They switch houses for some reason. It's
- 2:07Speaker 1: totally weird.
- 2:08Speaker 2: It's like AIRVMB.
- 2:09Speaker 1: It's not that weird for you switch life now that
- 2:13Speaker 1: we have Easton on the mic here because I do
- 2:15Speaker 1: have a question for both of you. I was thinking
- 2:16Speaker 1: about this the other night when we watched Home Alone. Obviously,
- 2:19Speaker 1: so many people love it. It's still a great movie.
- 2:21Speaker 1: It's iconic in so many ways. But I'm also realizing
- 2:24Speaker 1: that I'm not young anymore. I'm thirty four years old,
- 2:26Speaker 1: and so there's a generation behind me now that are
- 2:29Speaker 1: becoming adults or are getting married, and they're celebrating their
- 2:33Speaker 1: holidays together, and they're watching movies together. What movies are
- 2:37Speaker 1: like twenty two to twenty seven year olds watching for
- 2:41Speaker 1: the holidays? Is it still Elf?
- 2:42Speaker 2: Physicist? It's still the same. They're all the same.
- 2:46Speaker 1: So we've just failed at creating other good movies.
- 2:48Speaker 2: I when we say that, is there a Christmas classic
- 2:51Speaker 2: that's come out since? To the holiday? And Love Actually?
- 2:53Speaker 2: So Love Actually is two thousand and four. Elf was
- 2:56Speaker 2: two thousand and three, The Holiday was two thousand and six,
- 3:00Speaker 2: and I don't think there's been anything since then that's
- 3:03Speaker 2: become a real classic.
- 3:04Speaker 1: I mean people watching The New Grinch, the enemyd Green. Oh.
- 3:07Speaker 2: No, So Jared and I are doing two adds for
- 3:11Speaker 2: free Forms twenty five Days of Christmas, which Jared is
- 3:13Speaker 2: so like, he gets so hyped on twenty five Days
- 3:16Speaker 2: of Christmas and so thrilled that we're doing this campaign again.
- 3:22Speaker 2: He's doing it for The Grinch twenty eighteen because he
- 3:27Speaker 2: did the Jim Carrey won last year. So now we're
- 3:30Speaker 2: watching that one, and I'm doing Home Alone New York City.
- 3:34Speaker 2: I'm doing Lost to New York City because last year
- 3:37Speaker 2: I did Home Alone.
- 3:37Speaker 1: Haven't seen it, but I heard it's great. Jes said,
- 3:39Speaker 1: it's great.
- 3:39Speaker 2: I'm again going to fucking yes, beep that out, throw
- 3:43Speaker 2: this microphone at your head. You've never seen.
- 3:48Speaker 1: Week. She's told me she's watching with me this week.
- 3:50Speaker 2: I cannot wait to talk to her downstairs about your
- 3:53Speaker 2: absolute buffoonery.
- 3:54Speaker 1: No, it's wild, it actually is. So she is helping
- 3:57Speaker 1: me get more in the holidays period. Okay, so speaking
- 4:01Speaker 1: of movies and all these things, and something I can
- 4:03Speaker 1: relate to because it's something that really sounds like the
- 4:06Speaker 1: only thing I've ever done for the holidays. What is
- 4:08Speaker 1: your favorite holiday traditions.
- 4:09Speaker 2: Then Okay, this is so weird because people have asked
- 4:12Speaker 2: me this on Instagram and I've realized I don't have
- 4:15Speaker 2: any I know, I know, it's so sad. So when
- 4:20Speaker 2: I was a kid, we had a traditional like day
- 4:23Speaker 2: where it would be like we would go to the
- 4:25Speaker 2: candle at service Church on Christmas Eve. Then in the
- 4:27Speaker 2: morning we'd open presents. Then we you know, get the
- 4:31Speaker 2: batteries and the toys and like start playing with the
- 4:34Speaker 2: things that you really were excited about. And then we
- 4:36Speaker 2: would go to the same restaurant every Christmas night because
- 4:41Speaker 2: my parents don't like do a traditional Christmas dinner, so
- 4:43Speaker 2: just going to this one place was our tradition. And
- 4:45Speaker 2: now that I have like my own family, we don't
- 4:51Speaker 2: like we and over the years we even edited that
- 4:54Speaker 2: a little bit. But now that like I'm an adult,
- 4:57Speaker 2: we don't have anything that is absolutely predictable each year.
- 5:01Speaker 2: Is that sad? What about you?
- 5:03Speaker 1: Well, my family was like very non traditional in the sense,
- 5:07Speaker 1: so really for the last three years, I'd say it
- 5:09Speaker 1: was the only tradition I could.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Speak to you guys, go to vacation.
- 5:12Speaker 1: We go to vacation with my wife's family, so all
- 5:15Speaker 1: of us go together. We've celebrated Christmas now this will
- 5:17Speaker 1: be the third consecutive year now this year to Newport. Well,
- 5:21Speaker 1: we're going to her you know, grandmother's house and her
- 5:26Speaker 1: aunt's house on the East coast. But for like Christmas Day,
- 5:30Speaker 1: we're actually going to Nashville. My parents will come up,
- 5:32Speaker 1: her parents will obviously they live there because you know,
- 5:36Speaker 1: I have a new niece, and so the whole family's
- 5:38Speaker 1: going to come into Nashville. The cool part about this
- 5:41Speaker 1: is I'm an only child, so my parents are flexible,
- 5:44Speaker 1: very excited about spending holidays wherever they need to spend it.
- 5:48Speaker 1: But we don't have like a tradition necessarily. The only
- 5:51Speaker 1: tradition in my life has been that my grandma gives
- 5:53Speaker 1: me a new Christmas ornament every year.
- 5:56Speaker 2: Oh that's adorable. I love that. Oh I love that.
- 5:58Speaker 2: So wait, I have to say that that. As for
- 6:01Speaker 2: Dawson's first Christmas, the family's got together last year and
- 6:04Speaker 2: it's exactly how I'd want it every single year. But
- 6:07Speaker 2: my dad is not retired and he typically works the
- 6:11Speaker 2: day after Christmas. Interesting, so it really it hinders the
- 6:15Speaker 2: whole him coming to Rhode Island and my parents coming up.
- 6:18Speaker 1: There only a few more questions here, Ashley, I only
- 6:30Speaker 1: have one more for you, really.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Only one that you're just dying to ask me about Christmas.
- 6:34Speaker 1: Well, I think it's going to be one that the
- 6:36Speaker 1: listeners are really interesting. Okay, well, I have one more
- 6:38Speaker 1: for you. That's fine.
- 6:39Speaker 2: Okay.
- 6:41Speaker 1: How do you two decide where you're going to spend
- 6:42Speaker 1: your holidays?
- 6:44Speaker 2: Well, typically my family has been more traditional about Thanksgiving,
- 6:49Speaker 2: like that's the holiday that's always at my parents' house,
- 6:52Speaker 2: and we usually always have guests. This is the first
- 6:55Speaker 2: one where we had nobody outside the immediate family. So
- 6:59Speaker 2: typically and I'll just be like, okay, well Thanksgivings at
- 7:01Speaker 2: my house and Christmas is in Rhode Island. So that's
- 7:05Speaker 2: been like almost it's five or six years now.
- 7:08Speaker 1: Okay, Yeah, it's interesting. I think it's a big conversation.
- 7:11Speaker 1: It was one of the very first I want to
- 7:14Speaker 1: say contentious conversations, but difficult conversations my wife and I
- 7:18Speaker 1: had where it was like there isn't a great answer here,
- 7:21Speaker 1: like there's not a clear solution, you know, for what
- 7:24Speaker 1: we're going to do. Because it's weird. When you get married,
- 7:27Speaker 1: it's really the first time we're like, I will be
- 7:29Speaker 1: not I will be spending a holiday away from my family,
- 7:32Speaker 1: and it's very weird. We're getting used to it. So far,
- 7:36Speaker 1: it's been great because my parents, like I said, my
- 7:37Speaker 1: parents are very flexible to say, hey, wherever you are,
- 7:40Speaker 1: if we're invited, we'd love to be there as well.
- 7:42Speaker 1: And Jess's parents are incredible in the fact that they're like, yeah,
- 7:45Speaker 1: please come, like we're all a good family together.
- 7:48Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm a little that's that's what an only child
- 7:51Speaker 2: is not. It's a little bit of a bit. Okay,
- 7:57Speaker 2: I need to know how old were you when you
- 7:59Speaker 2: stop believing in Santa and when did this dawn on
- 8:03Speaker 2: you that he wasn't real. Spoiler alert, guys, make sure
- 8:08Speaker 2: that no kids are listening. This but a trigger warning
- 8:11Speaker 2: at the front of.
- 8:13Speaker 1: Dude. You know, I I had hesitancies early on, like
- 8:21Speaker 1: how early, very early, And here's what happened. No, I
- 8:24Speaker 1: think it's it's true. I wrote about it in the
- 8:25Speaker 1: book too, my book. When it comes to faith in
- 8:30Speaker 1: Santa Claus, there is a massive issue when like people
- 8:34Speaker 1: have the Santa Claus effect. When it comes to like
- 8:37Speaker 1: a belief and a faith tradition, you know, and so
- 8:40Speaker 1: all of a sudden, as an adult, you realize, oh, wait,
- 8:42Speaker 1: Santa Claus isn't real. Maybe all this thing that I
- 8:46Speaker 1: believed in my whole life isn't real. Also, so my
- 8:49Speaker 1: parents were pretty like honest with me as soon as
- 8:51Speaker 1: I asked. It was early earlier.
- 8:53Speaker 2: I again think that's an only child thing too.
- 8:55Speaker 1: Yeah, there was no need for protection. Like, it still
- 8:58Speaker 1: was fun and we still I remember laying out cookies
- 9:00Speaker 1: as a kid and there was still that like excitement
- 9:04Speaker 1: for a few years. But then all of a sudden,
- 9:05Speaker 1: you're like, wait, there's no way this dude makes this work.
- 9:08Speaker 1: And that's when they were like, yeah, it's it's not
- 9:10Speaker 1: a thing.
- 9:11Speaker 2: Okay, well do you want to know how long I
- 9:13Speaker 2: believed I what's your gas teens? Okay, So I was
- 9:19Speaker 2: in fifth grade or fourth grade? Okay, I was in
- 9:22Speaker 2: fourth grade and my parents had just gotten a gas
- 9:26Speaker 2: log fireplace, like moved in our house. They finally bought
- 9:28Speaker 2: the gas logs, and I remember them saying that the
- 9:30Speaker 2: gas logs for each of the gas fireplaces was five
- 9:33Speaker 2: hundred dollars, and five hundred dollars is a lot of money.
- 9:36Speaker 2: But then, like when you're a kid, you think it's
- 9:38Speaker 2: like thousands of dollars in your head. And on Christmas,
- 9:43Speaker 2: as I'm starting not to believe in Santa, my sister
- 9:46Speaker 2: and I go down on Christmas morning and the logs
- 9:50Speaker 2: that they just bought were shattered on the floor. They
- 9:54Speaker 2: shattered them on the floor by like the fireplace, And
- 9:57Speaker 2: so I looked at Lauren and I go, well, he's
- 10:00Speaker 2: ought to be real. They would never break those. So
- 10:03Speaker 2: then I believed for like certainly another year and then
- 10:07Speaker 2: like maybe a little bit, for it was fourth grade.
- 10:12Speaker 1: That that happened, almost old enough to drive. Well, I
- 10:19Speaker 1: was going to have no doubt that it was longer
- 10:22Speaker 1: than I should have been.
- 10:23Speaker 2: I think fourth grade is maybe average. What do you
- 10:26Speaker 2: think I'm looking at, Hannah Anderson, what do you think
- 10:28Speaker 2: is the average of not believing in Santa?
- 10:30Speaker 1: I think that's about right.
- 10:31Speaker 2: It's ten years old. Yeah, Ben, don't be You're cynical.
- 10:35Speaker 2: You're you're a cynical little boy. I was very ci're
- 10:38Speaker 2: a cynical skeptical. I just wish I had some more
- 10:41Speaker 2: childhood left in me.
- 10:42Speaker 1: I still do. And we're having a blast again. We're
- 10:45Speaker 1: at the Bachelor Mansion. It's the holidays, we're celebrating together.
- 10:48Speaker 1: My wife is downstairs, Jared is downstairs, Dawson is here.
- 10:52Speaker 1: We have a whole group of people. But happy holidays.
- 10:55Speaker 1: It's a great time of the year to celebrate. It's
- 10:57Speaker 1: a little brisk, may I say in La feels very
- 11:01Speaker 1: holiday time. Okay, final question for you before we head
- 11:04Speaker 1: out of here. Are you are you going out for
- 11:06Speaker 1: New Year's to staying in?
- 11:08Speaker 2: I'm assuming we're staying in as we often do. Sometimes
- 11:12Speaker 2: we'll go to dinner with friends beforehand, never stay out
- 11:14Speaker 2: till midnight or anything like that. Jared wants to go
- 11:18Speaker 2: to He wants to go to Times Square one of
- 11:21Speaker 2: these days, but he says he doesn't want to go
- 11:23Speaker 2: to Times Square and just be a fan. He wants
- 11:25Speaker 2: to work it. So if we can put the dream
- 11:27Speaker 2: out there, he wants to be in the crowd being like,
- 11:30Speaker 2: and what's your New Year's wish?
- 11:32Speaker 1: I hope he does. There's zero down in my mind
- 11:35Speaker 1: that my wife and I will be in bed by
- 11:37Speaker 1: ten o'clock. Ye, and I will watch the ball drop
- 11:39Speaker 1: the next day. Hey, until next time, I've been Ben,
- 11:42Speaker 1: I've been Ashley. The holidays follow the Ben and Ashley
- 11:45Speaker 1: I almost famous.
- 11:46Speaker 2: Podcast on iHeartRadio or subscribe wherever you listen to podcasts.
