- 0:01Speaker 1: Welcome to Dirty Rush, the truth about sorority life, with
- 0:04Speaker 1: your hosts, me.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Gia Giudice, Daisy Kent, and Jennifer Fessler.
- 0:11Speaker 3: Welcome back to another episode of Dirty Rush.
- 0:14Speaker 4: I'm Joan Bassos, joined by my friend Trista Sutter, and
- 0:17Speaker 4: today we are jumping into part two of our producer
- 0:20Speaker 4: college takeover.
- 0:21Speaker 3: Let's jump in.
- 0:22Speaker 5: Now we have two of our producers who touched down
- 0:25Speaker 5: on the Ole Miss campus.
- 0:27Speaker 2: We're really excited to hear.
- 0:29Speaker 5: about your experience at Ole Miss and all the details
- 0:32Speaker 5: that you found out. So what is the biggest thing
- 0:36Speaker 5: that I guess is kind of your remembering about or
- 0:41Speaker 5: most impacted you about your visit to Ole Miss?
- 0:45Speaker 1: So I come from a school of way like smaller,
- 0:48Speaker 1: like small school sorority wise. So going to Ole Miss
- 0:52Speaker 1: was just like insane.
- 0:54Speaker 6: And I think.
- 0:54Speaker 2: Where did you go? Sorry to interrupt. No, no, you're okay.
- 0:58Speaker 1: I went to Cal, I go to Cal state Northridge
- 1:00Speaker 1: and like they have sororities, but it's very, it's a
- 1:02Speaker 1: commuter school for me. So I never thought to join,
- 1:06Speaker 1: but I have friends that are in it and they,
- 1:09Speaker 1: they even say themselves, it's very small. And yeah, going
- 1:12Speaker 1: to Ole Miss and seeing, we.
- 1:14Speaker 7: Actually went when they were rushing. So we got to
- 1:17Speaker 7: see the girls run home and everything.
- 1:19Speaker 1: And I think for me, me and Stas went ahead
- 1:23Speaker 1: and we went ahead before they ran home and saw
- 1:28Speaker 1: the houses all decked out. And I think it was
- 1:31Speaker 1: just crazy to see the amount of effort and I'm
- 1:35Speaker 1: sure time. And I'm also sure money put into these houses.
- 1:38Speaker 1: And I told Stas, I told Sasa, I was like,
- 1:40Speaker 1: it's like walking on candy cane lane.
- 1:43Speaker 7: Like it's like Christmas.
- 1:43Speaker 1: Lights watching, but with, with, with sorority houses and it
- 1:47Speaker 1: was just insane.
- 1:48Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 1:48Speaker 8: But better, but better.
- 1:51Speaker 7: So I think that's the main thing that stood out
- 1:53Speaker 7: for me.
- 1:53Speaker 1: And also just seeing how into it they are, especially
- 1:56Speaker 1: the parents as well. I didn't expect the parents like
- 1:59Speaker 1: that were going to be as excited as the girls,
- 2:01Speaker 1: maybe even more excited, but it was crazy to see.
- 2:05Speaker 4: So the parents show up for what preference day or.
- 2:11Speaker 7: For rush for the whole thing.
- 2:13Speaker 2: Actually, I have a friend for a bid day.
- 2:17Speaker 6: They just show up for a bid day.
- 2:21Speaker 5: OK, well, I will say I have a friend who
- 2:24Speaker 5: rushed from Vail, Colorado at not Ole Miss, but Bama.
- 2:28Speaker 5: We were just talking about Bama. And my friend went
- 2:31Speaker 5: out there for two weeks and stayed in a hotel
- 2:34Speaker 5: with her daughter while she was going through Rush.
- 2:36Speaker 2: I don't know if that's normal at.
- 2:38Speaker 5: Bama, but it is good to hear that at least
- 2:40Speaker 5: Ole Miss, they just come for bid day. Because I
- 2:43Speaker 5: feel like, why not let these girls experience it? It's their-
- 2:48Speaker 5: you know, like, yes, maybe be there to help them
- 2:51Speaker 5: pick out their outfit, but you can do that over
- 2:52Speaker 5: Zoom or WhatsApp or, you know.
- 2:55Speaker 4: And it kind of motivates them, especially if they're freshmen,
- 2:58Speaker 4: to meet somebody else. So like you're now going through
- 3:00Speaker 4: this experience with somebody and like to have somebody to
- 3:04Speaker 4: commiserate with.
- 3:05Speaker 3: And talk about your outfits and not have it be
- 3:07Speaker 3: your mother anymore. It's been your mom for 18 years.
- 3:10Speaker 4: Like this is such a good time to branch out
- 3:13Speaker 4: and rely on somebody else and form some bonds like
- 3:16Speaker 4: early on. I mean, some people like made their best
- 3:18Speaker 4: friends like the first week of school. Totally.
- 3:21Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 3:21Speaker 2: Totally.
- 3:22Speaker 6: Something like I, I think with the parents that I
- 3:24Speaker 6: noticed there is that we didn't talk to a single
- 3:27Speaker 6: parent who wasn't also in either the same.
- 3:31Speaker 8: Story with some type of legacy.
- 3:32Speaker 6: So like for them, it was like, this is their
- 3:36Speaker 6: daughters coming out to society in a sense of, This
- 3:40Speaker 6: is everything that we've like worked for, like until she
- 3:43Speaker 6: was born, we had a daughter, we knew that she
- 3:45Speaker 6: was going to be in sorority, it was like literally
- 3:47Speaker 6: seen like it was life or death. Oh, like, that
- 3:51Speaker 6: bid day card open. I mean, we were standing out there.
- 3:53Speaker 6: And the only reason that we knew the girls were
- 3:55Speaker 6: even going to start running out was because the daughters
- 3:57Speaker 6: would text the mom's. And tell them the house that
- 4:00Speaker 6: they got and they would start screaming.
- 4:02Speaker 8: And crying and hugging one another.
- 4:04Speaker 6: Being like, oh my gosh, she got Katie like, and
- 4:08Speaker 6: they're all freaking out.
- 4:09Speaker 3: Oh my gosh.
- 4:10Speaker 6: That was like, kind of like, oh, I see how,
- 4:13Speaker 6: and they get so dressed up and they like wear
- 4:15Speaker 6: their colors or, and it's.
- 4:18Speaker 8: Like, it's a whole thing with the parents.
- 4:21Speaker 5: Did you feel like like as a mom who will
- 4:24Speaker 5: have a daughter going through it, maybe possibly next year,
- 4:27Speaker 5: not at Ole Miss, I don't think, but do you
- 4:30Speaker 5: think it's like your vibe on these parents? Do you
- 4:34Speaker 5: feel like they were being helicopter moms or do you
- 4:37Speaker 5: feel like it was so sweet of them to be there?
- 4:39Speaker 5: Like what was the vibe that you were getting?
- 4:41Speaker 8: I think such a mix of both, honestly. Yeah, I agree.
- 4:46Speaker 8: I think a mix of both.
- 4:47Speaker 6: Like I, I think for them, it was helicopter mom
- 4:50Speaker 6: in the sense of she's going to get a sorority
- 4:52Speaker 6: and she's going to get a house. But then it
- 4:55Speaker 6: was also like, I don't know if it was necessarily
- 4:57Speaker 6: she has to have this house or she needs to
- 4:59Speaker 6: be in my house. Like I remember talking to a
- 5:01Speaker 6: lot of families and it was different houses amongst like
- 5:04Speaker 6: the mom and the aunt and then the grandma and
- 5:07Speaker 6: like different, even different schools too. I know like SEC schools,
- 5:10Speaker 6: it's so like Ole Miss, Alabama sucks or Tennessee sucks.
- 5:13Speaker 8: Like we met a lot of people like that too.
- 5:15Speaker 6: So it wasn't, I don't think it was too helicopter-y,
- 5:18Speaker 6: but I think in a sense it was, she's going
- 5:20Speaker 6: to be in a house and she needs to be
- 5:22Speaker 6: in a house.
- 5:23Speaker 5: Understood. Yeah.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Okay.
- 5:24Speaker 3: And I do like kind of feel that way. I
- 5:26Speaker 3: know my daughter.
- 5:27Speaker 5: Okay.
- 5:27Speaker 4: So I have a daughter who went to college in,
- 5:31Speaker 4: I've got to remember what year, 2015.
- 5:35Speaker 3: No, 2013.
- 5:39Speaker 7: I'm old.
- 5:39Speaker 4: She's old.
- 5:40Speaker 3: She's in her thirties now.
- 5:42Speaker 4: And her best friend went to Ole Miss and, um,
- 5:45Speaker 4: You know, there's part of me that doesn't understand how
- 5:48Speaker 4: she didn't get in a house. She was probably the
- 5:50Speaker 4: prettiest girl in my daughter's class. She was really fun.
- 5:53Speaker 3: Everybody loved her.
- 5:53Speaker 4: Her name was Grayson. Everybody loved her. And she came
- 5:56Speaker 4: back from Ole Miss. And she actually, I don't think,
- 5:58Speaker 4: went back after her freshman year.
- 6:00Speaker 3: She quit. She ended up going to school up in
- 6:02Speaker 3: New York City.
- 6:03Speaker 4: I don't know if she was maybe too like northeast
- 6:07Speaker 4: kind of girl. So I live in Maryland. So we're
- 6:09Speaker 4: living to be a little urban with it right outside
- 6:11Speaker 4: of D.C. I wonder if maybe she just didn't fit in.
- 6:14Speaker 4: But how hard is it when and like the way
- 6:17Speaker 4: you're talking about the moms are even like that invested
- 6:20Speaker 4: in it. Like how hard is it if you don't
- 6:22Speaker 4: get in a house?
- 6:23Speaker 8: I can't imagine.
- 6:24Speaker 2: Or you're not from there.
- 6:25Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 6:26Speaker 2: Or you're not from there. Like how hard is it
- 6:28Speaker 2: to get in the houses?
- 6:30Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 6:30Speaker 8: To be a part of it.
- 6:32Speaker 6: One story that I totally remember was we were sitting
- 6:34Speaker 6: at a diner with this mom and daughter and she
- 6:38Speaker 6: was actually, she was a PNM going through recruitment.
- 6:41Speaker 8: And I remember her telling us.
- 6:43Speaker 6: About how the letters of rec are really hard to get,
- 6:46Speaker 6: especially when you're not from the South. So they have
- 6:49Speaker 6: a group chat of moms that all come together to
- 6:52Speaker 6: help get their daughters all letter of recommendations because then
- 6:55Speaker 6: she was telling me, that they always say like letter
- 6:58Speaker 6: of recommendations technically aren't needed or like they you don't
- 7:02Speaker 6: have to have them um but she said the two
- 7:04Speaker 6: houses that she didn't have letter of recommendations from those
- 7:06Speaker 6: were the two that she got immediately dropped from first
- 7:09Speaker 6: yeah so i think it's a i think it's probably
- 7:13Speaker 6: a lot harder not coming from the south not already
- 7:17Speaker 6: being a legacy because that.
- 7:18Speaker 8: Was like another thing that they said was everyone's a.
- 7:20Speaker 6: Legacy so unless you're like a third or fourth like
- 7:23Speaker 6: legacy then maybe that's when you start to have the
- 7:25Speaker 6: upper hand but like They were like, no.
- 7:27Speaker 8: One cares for your legacy.
- 7:28Speaker 3: Everyone doesn't stand out.
- 7:29Speaker 8: It doesn't stand out.
- 7:30Speaker 6: So it's like, and I always think like I'm from
- 7:33Speaker 6: West coast.
- 7:33Speaker 8: I go to, I'm in a West coast.
- 7:34Speaker 6: Sorority that I don't even, I wouldn't even know where
- 7:37Speaker 6: to start with letter recommendations. I wouldn't even know like
- 7:41Speaker 6: people out there. It's just a whole different like bubble
- 7:44Speaker 6: that like, you're not even really involved.
- 7:46Speaker 2: Totally. I'm intimidating.
- 7:49Speaker 3: Yeah. I've written a bunch of them. I don't really like, I, I,
- 7:54Speaker 3: I written for people. I don't even know.
- 7:55Speaker 4: So like, I don't feel like they're very, like, I
- 7:59Speaker 4: can't imagine that they are that important because you just
- 8:03Speaker 4: get anybody to write them.
- 8:04Speaker 3: I've written probably five for people I don't even know.
- 8:06Speaker 8: Right. I know.
- 8:07Speaker 5: I actually write the moms and say, can you at
- 8:10Speaker 5: least share something about them so I can write, you know,
- 8:13Speaker 5: if it's a friend of a friend or whatever, which
- 8:14Speaker 5: I'm happy to do. But I honestly think it's just
- 8:18Speaker 5: like you were saying, if they didn't have a letter
- 8:20Speaker 5: of rec, then they immediately get dropped.
- 8:22Speaker 2: I think it's just getting them in the door.
- 8:25Speaker 5: Like, you know, I don't think they, I have to
- 8:28Speaker 5: assume they have so many letters of recommendation.
- 8:32Speaker 2: To go through. I cannot imagine that they read all
- 8:34Speaker 2: of them. There's no way.
- 8:37Speaker 4: I mean, maybe if it's coming down to like the,
- 8:39Speaker 4: like the last few people that you're voting on, you
- 8:42Speaker 4: just have something to differentiate them because you just can't decide.
- 8:47Speaker 4: Maybe like a really good recommendation would, you know, sway
- 8:52Speaker 4: them in some way, but otherwise I can't imagine.
- 8:54Speaker 3: It being a big deal.
- 9:10Speaker 4: I want to know about the frat boys at Ole Miss.
- 9:14Speaker 4: And I hear that they rank the sororities. Please enlighten
- 9:18Speaker 4: me and I would have to hate them all.
- 9:21Speaker 1: One thing I will say is– I mean, this is
- 9:23Speaker 1: probably everywhere, but the ego at Ole Miss– from those
- 9:30Speaker 1: men are is insane and they're very much about their
- 9:34Speaker 1: school like we were talking to them about like just
- 9:36Speaker 1: like different things and.
- 9:38Speaker 8: They were like Ole Miss is on top like we are.
- 9:40Speaker 1: The best and we're talking about just a bunch of
- 9:43Speaker 1: different things like sports and they were like we're better
- 9:45Speaker 1: than any other sport like our stadium is.
- 9:47Speaker 3: Always packed out like we have the best school.
- 9:50Speaker 1: Spirit and we were like well what about Bama or
- 9:53Speaker 1: any other like big school and he was like no
- 9:55Speaker 1: like they don't even come close to us like We
- 9:58Speaker 1: stay on top.
- 9:59Speaker 8: And I was just like oh.
- 10:01Speaker 1: Okay but that's one thing I will definitely say was
- 10:06Speaker 1: interesting but take the rest about the sorority.
- 10:09Speaker 4: Houses tell us about how they rank the sororities That was.
- 10:14Speaker 6: So what was funny about our experience going was that
- 10:18Speaker 6: since we were out in the middle of recruitment, the
- 10:21Speaker 6: girls weren't going out because it's dry.
- 10:23Speaker 8: The whole week is dry. So it was literally just
- 10:28Speaker 8: all frat guys. We were like, where are the girls?
- 10:31Speaker 8: Are there any girls out? You would go and some
- 10:33Speaker 8: of the bars were all outside. And it would just
- 10:35Speaker 8: be tables and tables of the frat guys.
- 10:38Speaker 6: And so... I just remember being very upfront and honest
- 10:43Speaker 6: with them about what we were doing and thank God
- 10:46Speaker 6: they were so excited about it.
- 10:48Speaker 8: And when I asked them what, like, what are, like,
- 10:51Speaker 8: what are the top sororities here? Like, who are the
- 10:53Speaker 8: most like dateable women here?
- 10:54Speaker 6: Um, I got tried out Kappa and I want to
- 11:00Speaker 6: say Katie or the top ones.
- 11:04Speaker 8: And it was kind of funny.
- 11:05Speaker 6: Cause then I remember also when you go to the houses,
- 11:07Speaker 6: the row, um, that all these houses are on is
- 11:10Speaker 6: literally called sorority row.
- 11:12Speaker 8: And it literally looks like Barbie land. It, there's like
- 11:14Speaker 8: a lake and it's a little cul-de-sac and all the houses.
- 11:19Speaker 8: I mean, you could, you guys could play telephone with
- 11:22Speaker 8: a cup and a.
- 11:22Speaker 6: String with how close all these houses are to one another.
- 11:25Speaker 5: Wow.
- 11:27Speaker 6: And yeah, Yeah, I kind of just, they, when we ask, like,
- 11:30Speaker 6: what are your guys' thoughts on, like, recruitment and work
- 11:33Speaker 6: week and, like, all these things that they're doing, they're
- 11:36Speaker 6: kind of just, like, I just don't really understand the
- 11:37Speaker 6: purpose of it. I don't understand, like, why we have
- 11:40Speaker 6: to do the themes. And I don't understand why it's
- 11:43Speaker 6: all about, like, the dancing. Like, I feel like if
- 11:46Speaker 6: they actually just spent more of their time dedicated to actual, like,
- 11:50Speaker 6: prepping for recruitment, they wouldn't be complaining about.
- 11:53Speaker 8: Having these 15-hour days.
- 11:54Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 11:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:56Speaker 6: And then, sure enough, we met one guy who his
- 11:59Speaker 6: girlfriend was vice president of membership for one of the
- 12:03Speaker 6: houses there, which is basically, like, the biggest role that
- 12:06Speaker 6: you have.
- 12:06Speaker 8: For, like, Rush. That your entire job, like, when you're.
- 12:09Speaker 6: In that chapter is basically just planning Rush.
- 12:12Speaker 8: And he said that he has not seen her.
- 12:14Speaker 2: Wow.
- 12:17Speaker 8: Everything and so they are very much um but they
- 12:20Speaker 8: also were like good luck with what you guys.
- 12:22Speaker 6: Are doing good luck talking to the girls like they're
- 12:24Speaker 6: not going to tell you anything and.
- 12:25Speaker 8: We're like right like that's fine like we know.
- 12:29Speaker 4: And did you experience that did they were they really
- 12:32Speaker 4: tight-lipped didn't really give you any tea.
- 12:34Speaker 1: We didn't i mean like we said there wasn't any
- 12:38Speaker 1: girls out.
- 12:39Speaker 7: So it's not even like we got a crazy chance
- 12:41Speaker 7: to ask them.
- 12:42Speaker 1: And especially on bid day, they're so busy with running
- 12:45Speaker 1: home and meeting their bags and everything. So they, we
- 12:50Speaker 1: didn't really get a chance to talk to them specifically,
- 12:52Speaker 1: but we were able to get outside perspectives from girls.
- 12:55Speaker 1: Like we saw some girls that were like, not even from,
- 12:58Speaker 1: I don't even, I think they're out of country.
- 13:02Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
- 13:03Speaker 8: We met two girls who were not, who they're exchange students. Yeah.
- 13:09Speaker 6: They're literally from Spain or some, some out of like
- 13:13Speaker 6: country place. And I asked, I was like, were you
- 13:16Speaker 6: ever interested in doing recruitment? I mean like, hello, you're
- 13:20Speaker 6: going to SEC American kind of school. Like, I don't
- 13:24Speaker 6: know if you want that experience. And she was so
- 13:26Speaker 6: adamant of, no, I didn't even want to attempt. I
- 13:29Speaker 6: didn't want to do it. Like, here I want no
- 13:32Speaker 6: part of it it's toxic this that so that was
- 13:35Speaker 6: kind of a little bit surprising and then we had
- 13:39Speaker 6: two girls where we met their neighbors there's these two
- 13:45Speaker 6: girls we met their neighbors and apparently they dropped one
- 13:49Speaker 6: of their the one they dropped their sorority at Ole
- 13:52Speaker 6: Miss so we were trying to like.
- 13:56Speaker 8: Find them to talk to them. And the roommates were like,
- 14:00Speaker 8: you're probably not going to get a word out of
- 14:01Speaker 8: them because, and even though they dropped, they still said
- 14:04Speaker 8: that they wouldn't.
- 14:04Speaker 6: Talk about it because like the school still like come
- 14:07Speaker 6: at them and like, they'll get banned from everything.
- 14:10Speaker 8: They won't be allowed to invites. They will like lose friends.
- 14:13Speaker 8: It's like, even if you still can't talk about it.
- 14:16Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:17Speaker 1: It kind of gave off as they were trying to
- 14:18Speaker 1: like talk us out of it in a way. Like
- 14:21Speaker 1: we really wanted to try and reach out to them.
- 14:24Speaker 1: So we left, a note at their door, like saying,
- 14:28Speaker 1: just being honest, like who we were and.
- 14:31Speaker 7: What we were trying to ask them about. We had
- 14:33Speaker 7: no militia intentions.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Because, you know, a lot of people can just like
- 14:38Speaker 1: assume that nowadays, which is completely understandable. And we had
- 14:42Speaker 1: some of the male neighbors who were fraternities help us
- 14:45Speaker 1: write it.
- 14:47Speaker 7: And one of them was the guy, the boyfriend.
- 14:50Speaker 1: And he was like, I don't think this like we
- 14:53Speaker 1: were walking towards and he was like, I don't think
- 14:54Speaker 1: this is a smart idea. Like just saying like, I
- 14:57Speaker 1: don't think they're going to like reach out. So like,
- 15:00Speaker 1: I don't know if you really should just even do it.
- 15:02Speaker 2: But what's the harm? That's exactly what we said.
- 15:05Speaker 3: Nothing to lose.
- 15:06Speaker 8: Right. Exactly.
- 15:07Speaker 7: I was like, we have nothing to lose.
- 15:08Speaker 8: We're not from here.
- 15:10Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 15:11Speaker 5: There's no reason to not to. I would love to know.
- 15:15Speaker 5: I hear that you were actually at Alpha Chi University.
- 15:20Speaker 5: pref night and I was an alpha guy, not obviously
- 15:22Speaker 5: at Bama, but I'd love to know, is that really
- 15:25Speaker 5: the case?
- 15:26Speaker 2: And how was it? How did that happen?
- 15:28Speaker 8: Yeah. So this was really funny.
- 15:31Speaker 6: The moment we get to our hotel, I, we get
- 15:34Speaker 6: out of the Uber and I see this array of
- 15:37Speaker 6: bags and it looks like girls is rush bags.
- 15:40Speaker 8: And then I see two row guys. Do they have their,
- 15:42Speaker 8: or get what row guys, but basically like.
- 15:46Speaker 6: The rush counselors, they were sitting outside and I was
- 15:49Speaker 6: just like, wait a second, we're at a hotel right now.
- 15:51Speaker 6: And I asked her as what's, what's going on over here.
- 15:54Speaker 6: She goes, Oh, Alpha Chi Omega's house is getting redone
- 15:58Speaker 6: right now. So we've had to do all the brush
- 16:00Speaker 6: at this hotel.
- 16:01Speaker 8: And I was like, what are you talking about?
- 16:05Speaker 6: And And I couldn't even imagine because there's so many
- 16:09Speaker 6: things that go into it. I mean, like you have
- 16:11Speaker 6: to know, have to line all the girls up outside
- 16:13Speaker 6: the door.
- 16:14Speaker 8: Like you have to know where to line up to chat.
- 16:16Speaker 6: You have to be able to count how many girls
- 16:18Speaker 6: to know how many PNMs to match with active.
- 16:20Speaker 8: I was like, how are you doing this out of
- 16:22Speaker 8: hotel for starters? And we, they.
- 16:25Speaker 6: Tell us they're like, they're literally in there doing their
- 16:27Speaker 6: prep ceremony right now.
- 16:29Speaker 8: And it's pretty much displayed. So you can literally go
- 16:31Speaker 8: see if you want. And I was like, what?
- 16:34Speaker 6: Oh yeah.
- 16:34Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 16:35Speaker 6: So we go, we walk in and I don't know
- 16:39Speaker 6: if all I'm in Kappa.
- 16:42Speaker 8: So like I know my Kappa preps are very like
- 16:45Speaker 8: you wear black dresses.
- 16:46Speaker 6: It's very just like elegant and just like pretty clean,
- 16:49Speaker 6: generic kind of thing.
- 16:51Speaker 8: Theirs was like there.
- 16:53Speaker 6: They wore like the white cap sleeve long dresses with
- 16:56Speaker 6: the red flowers.
- 16:58Speaker 8: Very like elegant. I think because of the South, it
- 17:02Speaker 8: has like more of like a religious root to it too.
- 17:05Speaker 6: It almost seems like it was conservative. They had their
- 17:09Speaker 6: music playing like over a speaker. So it wasn't like
- 17:12Speaker 6: the girl singing. It was actually more of like a.
- 17:15Speaker 8: Choir audio playing.
- 17:17Speaker 5: Oh, crazy.
- 17:18Speaker 6: And then they had their house like cut out and
- 17:22Speaker 6: like a cardboard box and placed.
- 17:24Speaker 8: It in the back. And these girls would literally.
- 17:27Speaker 6: Be standing down, like standing on this like stairway and,
- 17:30Speaker 6: an active would come and grab a PNM and they'd
- 17:33Speaker 6: walk them into this little ballroom area. That was this
- 17:36Speaker 6: open space of tables.
- 17:38Speaker 8: And I was like, Oh my gosh, that is crazy.
- 17:43Speaker 8: Cause prep is also supposed to be like prep night.
- 17:46Speaker 6: It's like dark and like mysterious and like emotional and secret.
- 17:51Speaker 3: Do you feel like you were like, like a voyeur?
- 17:54Speaker 3: Like I'm watching this and I shouldn't really be here.
- 17:57Speaker 6: I was kind of just like, if, Thank God they're
- 18:01Speaker 6: doing it here because they were doing it somewhere else
- 18:03Speaker 6: where maybe sororities weren't popular.
- 18:05Speaker 8: It almost looked like a cotillion thing.
- 18:07Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 18:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 18:09Speaker 3: It sounds like it with the white dresses and all that. Yeah.
- 18:12Speaker 4: Was that the most bizarre thing that you witnessed or
- 18:15Speaker 4: did you witness anything else that was just like blow
- 18:18Speaker 4: your mind?
- 18:19Speaker 6: I think that was like one of, I think that
- 18:22Speaker 6: was bizarre in the sense of you're not ever able
- 18:25Speaker 6: to see any.
- 18:25Speaker 3: You see that.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Yeah. Pref ceremonies.
- 18:27Speaker 8: I mean, like you should.
- 18:28Speaker 6: Ever be able to listen to any single sorority songs,
- 18:32Speaker 6: especially like something on pref.
- 18:34Speaker 8: That's a lot more like sacred. I think that was
- 18:38Speaker 8: really bizarre.
- 18:39Speaker 6: I think just in general though, I mean, bid day
- 18:42Speaker 6: had to have been like the most elaborate wild show
- 18:47Speaker 6: I have ever seen. I mean, it was families on
- 18:52Speaker 6: top of families. It was packed before the girls even
- 18:55Speaker 6: ran home. Just the signs, the alumni there, the house setups.
- 19:01Speaker 6: I mean, there was professional photographers going around taking pictures
- 19:05Speaker 6: of like the girls and the houses and all the
- 19:07Speaker 6: merch and like things that they would get in their
- 19:09Speaker 6: rush bags.
- 19:10Speaker 8: It was just, I was jealous. I was like, I
- 19:13Speaker 8: want to run home right now. I understand why these
- 19:15Speaker 8: girls are having a meltdown and crying. Like I want
- 19:18Speaker 8: to be a part of that. Yeah. It was, it
- 19:20Speaker 8: was really cool. It was just so like, it definitely
- 19:24Speaker 8: blew my expectations out of the water.
- 19:26Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 19:26Speaker 5: Amazing.
- 19:41Speaker 3: What was the fashion like?
- 19:42Speaker 4: It was everybody like over the top or were they,
- 19:47Speaker 4: you know, conservative.
- 19:49Speaker 8: I'd say it's a mix of both in a way.
- 19:51Speaker 1: Like when we went out at night, it's like, it's
- 19:57Speaker 1: not too crazy. We definitely tried to blend in with
- 20:00Speaker 1: the crowd, but I think you can tell that we
- 20:02Speaker 1: weren't from there for sure.
- 20:05Speaker 7: But I think... Yeah, I'd say it's very split in
- 20:11Speaker 7: my eyes, I think.
- 20:13Speaker 8: I think on bid day, it was really fun seeing
- 20:16Speaker 8: the parents.
- 20:17Speaker 6: And they would come with, like, if they were a
- 20:21Speaker 6: legacy of Kappa Delta or an alumni there, they would
- 20:23Speaker 6: come in this, like, patterned out green dress. And if
- 20:26Speaker 6: they had their kids with them, they'd put their little
- 20:28Speaker 6: daughters who were, like, three in the same matching bows
- 20:31Speaker 6: and same outfits.
- 20:32Speaker 8: And it was.
- 20:33Speaker 6: Honestly the most darn cute thing ever of, like, And, like,
- 20:38Speaker 6: try it out. Like, they're all in, like, their yellow
- 20:39Speaker 6: and blue. And it was just, like, it's really cute.
- 20:43Speaker 6: The dresses, though. It's definitely, like, you wear dresses there.
- 20:46Speaker 6: You wear dresses with color and pattern.
- 20:48Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 20:50Speaker 5: There was a funny encounter with Kappa when you accidentally
- 20:53Speaker 5: matched their light blue dresses, we hear. Tell us what happened.
- 20:58Speaker 3: When we were getting ready.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Actually, when we were packing, we were talking about what
- 21:02Speaker 1: we were going to wear. And I was saying how
- 21:04Speaker 1: I was like, I think I need to fit in.
- 21:06Speaker 2: So I need to wear a dress. And I have
- 21:08Speaker 2: a light blue dress.
- 21:09Speaker 7: I was like, oh, it's perfect for Ole Miss.
- 21:11Speaker 8: And when I.
- 21:13Speaker 1: Sent a picture of what I was wearing, we had
- 21:16Speaker 1: both planned to wear a light blue dress.
- 21:18Speaker 7: So we were like, you know what? Let's just do it.
- 21:20Speaker 7: So that same.
- 21:21Speaker 1: Day, we wore our light blue dresses. And we went
- 21:23Speaker 1: to the Kappa house. And they're all taking pictures. And
- 21:26Speaker 1: they're all in their blue dresses. we blend literally right in.
- 21:30Speaker 1: Like we could have hopped in their picture of anything
- 21:32Speaker 1: and said we were a part of it.
- 21:34Speaker 6: If I had worn like this thing, cause this is
- 21:36Speaker 6: what they all had on, which is the exact thing.
- 21:39Speaker 8: I don't even think they would have known.
- 21:41Speaker 6: I probably could have said, I just transferred in and
- 21:45Speaker 6: I'm like Hapa.
- 21:47Speaker 8: And they would have been like, Oh my God, cool.
- 21:49Speaker 8: Come on in. Cause we also got there.
- 21:51Speaker 6: Super early when like, it was freshly decorated and they're
- 21:54Speaker 6: all still taking their pictures and we're kind of just
- 21:56Speaker 6: like wandering around like on their like gigantic lawns. And
- 22:02Speaker 6: they're definitely like making eyes with us of like, are
- 22:05Speaker 6: they part of us?
- 22:06Speaker 8: Do we know them?
- 22:07Speaker 3: Like, should we say hi?
- 22:08Speaker 6: These like PC classes are probably also like 200 girls.
- 22:12Speaker 8: I mean, it's unreal how large these houses are. I mean,
- 22:17Speaker 8: the house is gigantic.
- 22:19Speaker 6: I think they house about 180 girls.
- 22:21Speaker 3: How many people were they giving bids to this year?
- 22:25Speaker 8: Definitely a hundred.
- 22:26Speaker 6: Wow.
- 22:27Speaker 8: There was a lot. There was a lot. I mean,
- 22:30Speaker 8: those PC class photos were gigantic.
- 22:33Speaker 2: Gigantic. Which made them like. it took them so long.
- 22:36Speaker 1: To get it together because you have to fit so
- 22:39Speaker 1: many girls in one photo, obviously. And they have their
- 22:43Speaker 1: photographer like on a ladder, like trying to come, they
- 22:46Speaker 1: have megaphones across the street, literally, basically. And they had
- 22:50Speaker 1: a megaphone trying to communicate to everyone like, okay, girls,
- 22:52Speaker 1: like I need you to really get tighter in.
- 22:54Speaker 7: And we, when we were at the Kappa house, we
- 22:57Speaker 7: saw that one of.
- 22:58Speaker 1: The girls was on the floor, like getting fanned and
- 23:00Speaker 1: like people people were getting water like she was passing
- 23:03Speaker 1: out because it's hot because it is hot out there
- 23:07Speaker 1: and being in such a tight crowd probably doesn't help
- 23:10Speaker 1: at all.
- 23:11Speaker 4: No air oh my gosh that's scary yeah I bet
- 23:16Speaker 4: that happens.
- 23:16Speaker 8: A lot.
- 23:18Speaker 5: Oh my gosh you guys are amazing I love all
- 23:21Speaker 5: these inside stories it's so much fun.
- 23:24Speaker 4: Did you have fun was this a fun assignment to
- 23:27Speaker 4: go down there and try to blend in and get
- 23:29Speaker 4: some info.
- 23:32Speaker 1: It was yeah it definitely was we had our fun
- 23:35Speaker 1: and i've never been to mississippi in the first place
- 23:38Speaker 1: yeah oh it was just their campus like we didn't
- 23:41Speaker 1: go on their campus but just seeing their town their
- 23:45Speaker 1: um square what's is what's it called square it's yeah
- 23:49Speaker 1: it's really called the square there you go it's beautiful
- 23:52Speaker 1: it's a cute little town there's really cute shops there
- 23:54Speaker 1: and it's, I.
- 23:56Speaker 7: Can see why I can see the appeal to the school.
- 23:59Speaker 8: And it's just, it's very, it's.
- 24:00Speaker 1: Very close together, which when we drove in, cause you
- 24:03Speaker 1: have to, it's like an hour drive from the airport.
- 24:06Speaker 1: We kind of felt like we were in the middle
- 24:08Speaker 1: of nowhere. And then as soon as we get in,
- 24:10Speaker 1: it's just Ole Miss. Like it's just straight school town vibes.
- 24:14Speaker 7: Yeah.
- 24:15Speaker 3: College town.
- 24:16Speaker 2: Exactly.
- 24:17Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 7: And it's, it's great.
- 24:19Speaker 8: It was really fun. The people in the South are
- 24:22Speaker 8: also the nicest people.
- 24:24Speaker 3: So friendly.
- 24:25Speaker 6: They are the friendliest people ever. I was so nervous
- 24:28Speaker 6: about how much I would need to try.
- 24:31Speaker 8: To talk to people. If you sit down, the person.
- 24:33Speaker 6: You're sitting down next to at a restaurant, they will
- 24:35Speaker 6: immediately say hi to you.
- 24:37Speaker 2: Oh, I love that.
- 24:39Speaker 8: They're the nicest people there.
- 24:41Speaker 2: Yeah, they really are.
- 24:42Speaker 7: They're so welcoming and they're.
- 24:44Speaker 8: Just so personable.
- 24:46Speaker 7: It's like I've known this person. I'm talking to someone
- 24:49Speaker 7: and I feel like I've known them.
- 24:52Speaker 8: They're really nice.
- 24:52Speaker 5: I love it.
- 24:54Speaker 6: Yeah.
- 24:54Speaker 2: Well, thank you, ladies.
- 24:55Speaker 5: This has been so awesome. I think they need to
- 24:59Speaker 5: do more sororities and do, you know, maybe like mid semester,
- 25:04Speaker 5: you go and check in on how many girls have
- 25:07Speaker 5: left the houses and how many girls are happy and
- 25:11Speaker 5: maybe go to a party.
- 25:13Speaker 2: I don't know. So fun. I love the insights.
- 25:16Speaker 3: The inside scoop is really fun.
- 25:17Speaker 4: I love this assignment and thank you guys for being
- 25:20Speaker 4: up for it and looking the part. They couldn't send
- 25:22Speaker 4: Trista and I, but we got.
- 25:23Speaker 2: You young girls.
- 25:27Speaker 3: We could be the mothers. I could be a grandmother
- 25:29Speaker 3: at this point. I have grandkids.
- 25:33Speaker 2: So I love it.
- 25:36Speaker 8: I love it.
- 25:37Speaker 5: All right.
