- 0:41SPEAKER_00: All right, the Buffalo Bills have started to make their roster cuts here, as many names have been leaked out.
- 0:47SPEAKER_00: They also made 13 cuts on Saturday officially, so we'll wait.
- 0:53SPEAKER_00: I think there's about 10 more to go for the Bills by the deadline at 6 p.m.
- 0:59SPEAKER_00: But let's get down to business here, as a lot to discuss already before the Bills have made those final decisions, and we'll see here what they do elect to do as we approach the deadline.
- 1:15SPEAKER_00: I'll be keeping an eye on whether or not they announce their final cuts before that deadline, as a few teams already have.
- 1:23SPEAKER_00: I think I've seen the Browns already release their 53-man roster, as well as the Rams have made a few moves officially today.
- 1:34SPEAKER_00: So we'll have to wait and see.
- 1:36SPEAKER_00: But for now, let's discuss what's already out there in the media sphere.
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And we'll start with the surprise cut of Kennai Walker that was reported by Ryan Talbot of Syracuse.com and really took a lot of people by surprise.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: Kennai Walker had a phenomenal summer, particularly for an undrafted free agent who you really picked up off the scrap heap after the draft.
- 2:02SPEAKER_00: He steps in, long, lanky player, proving solid in coverage, no fear and run support as well.
- 2:09SPEAKER_00: A few hiccups, as you would expect, for an inexperienced player who, like I said, went undrafted, but for the most part, sticky in coverage.
- 2:18SPEAKER_00: He had some quality moments and interception during the preseason.
- 2:22SPEAKER_00: Also a clip that has been widespread on social media against the Pittsburgh Steelers, remaining sticky down the field.
- 2:29SPEAKER_00: So Walker, I think, made a solid case to make the Bills roster.
- 2:34SPEAKER_00: And frankly, I'm quite surprised that he has reportedly been left off that roster.
- 2:42SPEAKER_00: And as Hayden chimes in here, it was just reported by Joe Biscalia.
- 2:46SPEAKER_00: Chase Lunt, the former sixth-round pick by the Bills, has been waived as well.
- 2:51SPEAKER_00: We'll get to more of those reports later.
- 2:54SPEAKER_00: But more on Walker, I really was pushing for the Bills to sign Tradavius White as a free agent to begin this offseason.
- 3:04SPEAKER_00: But quite honestly, with Walker's performance throughout training camp in the preseason, I thought he made a signing of White really unnecessary.
- 3:14SPEAKER_00: I thought he could have slotted in there as a depth cornerback behind starters Christian Benford and Maxwell Harrison.
- 3:22SPEAKER_00: And of course, second round pick Davison Igbenosen.
- 3:25SPEAKER_00: I thought Walker did more than seventh-round pick Torreano Pride Jr.
- 3:30SPEAKER_00: to earn that fourth or perhaps even fifth cornerback spot, but no, Walker will not be on the Bills' 53-man roster again that per Ryan Talbot.
- 3:41SPEAKER_00: And now I am wondering if the Bills are going to bring in a veteran or somebody from the outside.
- 3:47SPEAKER_00: Could it be Tradavius White?
- 3:49SPEAKER_00: He remains a free agent, and he had a solid season for the Bills last year.
- 3:53SPEAKER_00: I know he kind of melted down during that Broncos game during the playoffs, and that's kind of made a few Bills fans shy away from the thought of the team bringing him back.
- 4:05SPEAKER_00: But at this point, if you can get him to sign a low-cost contract, you bring in him in here for depth purposes in case things go awry, as we've seen them go awry for the Bills secondary down the stretch of the season the past few years.
- 4:23SPEAKER_00: They had to play Dane Jackson in the playoffs last year after a botched transaction led to the Bills letting go of Jamarcus Ingram midway through the year.
- 4:34SPEAKER_00: So Tradavius White is still hanging out there.
- 4:38SPEAKER_00: Uh we'll we'll see what the Bills and him, for that matter, elect to do here over the next few hours, days, or weeks.
- 4:46SPEAKER_00: Who knows when Tradavius White will and if he'll sign with the team before the regular season starts.
- 4:53SPEAKER_00: But I think it's certainly within consideration now, much more so than I thought before the report of Walker being cut was released earlier today.
- 5:04SPEAKER_00: And another question here.
- 5:05SPEAKER_00: This one from Carlos Alfredo.
- 5:09SPEAKER_00: I agree with you.
- 5:10SPEAKER_00: I wonder who the Bills' punt returner will be.
- 5:12SPEAKER_00: Another player that has been cut.
- 5:14SPEAKER_00: This one was made official by the Bills on Saturday.
- 5:18SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver Micole Hardman Jr.
- 5:20SPEAKER_00: He was in the running to be the Bills' starting punt returner.
- 5:24SPEAKER_00: He had filled that role for the Bills previously last year, but he dropped so many passes at the wide receiver position during the preseason, it almost made it impossible for the Bills to keep him on the roster as a one-trick pony punt returner.
- 5:37SPEAKER_00: I don't think that that's something they want.
- 5:40SPEAKER_00: Now, the Texans did cut bait on former Bills punt returner Brandon Codrington.
- 5:45SPEAKER_00: And I posted that on my ex account and kind of wondered whether the Bills would kind of go back to move forward and bring Codrington Codrington back in kind of a desperate situation.
- 5:58SPEAKER_00: They don't have a reliable punt returner right now, outside of perhaps Khalil Shakir, who I don't think they want to put back there.
- 6:04SPEAKER_00: And Bishop says here, probably Ray Davis, Pettis and Hardman are both gone.
- 6:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, Dante Pettis Jr., I also thought was another option to be the punt returner.
- 6:14SPEAKER_00: And I initially thought Ray Davis with the way that McCole Hardman started the Bills preseason finale against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- 6:22SPEAKER_00: I initially thought it was going to be Ray Davis in that punt return role, but then he muffs the punt against the Steelers.
- 6:30SPEAKER_00: And I'm not so sure the Bills are going to be comfortable putting what would be a neophyte NFL punt returner back there.
- 6:36SPEAKER_00: I know he was an all-pro at the kick returner position, and he has done punt returns before, but dating back all the way to high school for Ray Davis.
- 6:46SPEAKER_00: So I don't think they're comfortable with Davis.
- 6:48SPEAKER_00: The punt returner may not be on the team right now.
- 6:51SPEAKER_00: They also might just be forced to go back to Shakir.
- 6:54SPEAKER_00: Maybe they try Keon Coleman, but I don't think that the Bills are going to trust Coleman in a situation to return punts at this point.
- 7:03SPEAKER_00: And we have Carl Knight here.
- 7:06SPEAKER_00: Do you think the Bills are looking at trade options for Ian Wheeler or Frank Gore Jr.
- 7:11SPEAKER_00: by any chance?
- 7:12SPEAKER_00: Yeah, perhaps.
- 7:14SPEAKER_00: Or I floated this out there throughout the offseason.
- 7:16SPEAKER_00: Could they trade Ray Davis?
- 7:17SPEAKER_00: I know that running backs are a dime a dozen.
- 7:20SPEAKER_00: You can find these RB3 territory type players on a lot of rosters in the NFL, especially come cut down day.
- 7:28SPEAKER_00: You see a lot of them released and brought back to the practice squad.
- 7:32SPEAKER_00: So I'm not so sure that even Ray Davis would garner much attention on the trade market, let alone Ian Wheeler or Frank Gore Jr.
- 7:41SPEAKER_00: But Brandon Bean, I'm sure, is perusing the trade market for a lot of these players that are on the roster bubble.
- 7:47SPEAKER_00: He's already traded one player, Cedric Van Prang Granger, the team's former fifth-round pick at the center position.
- 7:54SPEAKER_00: Traded him in a 2027 seventh round pick for a 2027 sixth round pick to the Indianapolis Colts.
- 8:02SPEAKER_00: So the Bills made a move early in the day to kind of cut bait on one of their former fifth rounders and giving up a seventh rounder to move up around to get a sixth round pick.
- 8:14SPEAKER_00: A lot of people think Brandon Bean didn't do good business there, but at the same time, we've seen so many of the Bills' seventh rounders cut over the years, namely Torriano Pride Jr., who has also reportedly been released already today.
- 8:29SPEAKER_00: So I'm not so sure how much value those seventh rounders hold.
- 8:33SPEAKER_00: Travis Clayton, the former international pathway player, was reportedly released as well.
- 8:39SPEAKER_00: I think that one per Jay Skersky of the Buffalo News.
- 8:43SPEAKER_00: So you give up a seventh rounder, you give up a player in Cedric Van Prang Granger, he were probably going to cut anyway, and you move up around in next year's draft into the sixth round.
- 8:55SPEAKER_00: So I think you can kill Bean for a lot of things he's done this offseason, particularly today with the Canai Walker cut.
- 9:04SPEAKER_00: I'm just not sure that that's the right decision.
- 9:07SPEAKER_00: You mentioned this offseason how you were desperate for cornerback depth, and now you're moving on from Walker.
- 9:14SPEAKER_00: It doesn't make a lot of sense, but you can kill Bean for a lot of things.
- 9:17SPEAKER_00: I don't think you can really harp on him for the Cedric Van Pran Granger deal.
- 9:24SPEAKER_00: I think that's just kind of a nothing deal.
- 9:26SPEAKER_00: He started two games for the Bills over the last two years, played no more than 12% of the snaps during those two seasons.
- 9:32SPEAKER_00: So you move up around in the draft, you get rid of a guy who you probably weren't going to keep anyway.
- 9:37SPEAKER_00: You got Lloyd Cushenberry as your backup center with Connor McGovern still on the mend and questionable in my mind for week one.
- 9:45SPEAKER_00: So as I keep saying, you can kill him for a lot of things.
- 9:49SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't kill him for that.
- 9:50SPEAKER_00: But this Kenneth Walker situation could turn into something that could come back to haunt the Bills.
- 9:56SPEAKER_00: I mentioned the Jamarcus Ingram situation last year, where the Bills kind of let him go thinking they'd be able to get him back on the practice squad, and he was snatched up and didn't make Sean McDermott very happy and didn't make a lot of Bills fans happy either.
- 10:11SPEAKER_00: And I know that the Bills in cutting bait on Walker, they want to get him back on the practice squad, but you saw him perform during training camp and the preseason.
- 10:21SPEAKER_00: So have other teams.
- 10:23SPEAKER_00: And the cornerback position is a coveted position.
- 10:26SPEAKER_00: So uh to sign Canai Walker as a depth player on your 53-man roster for another team, it's it's not out of the realm of the pot of uh possibility.
- 10:37SPEAKER_00: So if the Bills aren't able to get Walker back, and then late in the year you're you're struggling for depth at the position, and God forbid, you see Walker on the other sideline in a crucial game down the stretch, that would not be a great situation for the team.
- 11:01SPEAKER_00: So let's move on to some other players.
- 11:04SPEAKER_00: But Slim Nady has a question here.
- 11:06SPEAKER_00: I'm amazed Leonard didn't pound the table to keep Walker on the roster.
- 11:10SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but I mean who knows?
- 11:11SPEAKER_00: Maybe he did.
- 11:12SPEAKER_00: Maybe and in Carlos weighs in, he is he agrees with him.
- 11:15SPEAKER_00: Maybe he did, and maybe he just doesn't have enough uh I I don't know what to call it.
- 11:22SPEAKER_00: He he doesn't have enough gravitas within the organization this young in his career uh to really sway that decision.
- 11:30SPEAKER_00: So uh perhaps he did pound the table for him, but Leonard's kind of spoken glowingly about every player that he's been asked about since being hired as the Bills defensive coordinator.
- 11:41SPEAKER_00: So who knows who he's pounding the table for and who he isn't.
- 11:45SPEAKER_00: But Angela Angel, excuse me, Garcia, uh Dante Pettis asked the question what else you need.
- 11:56SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure what you mean by this.
- 12:00SPEAKER_00: I'm sure you mean should he have been kept around and he did enough to prove his case, he did have that crucial two-point conversion in the Bills' thrilling win over the Steelers in the preseason finale.
- 12:12SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, if you weren't going to name him your punt returner and the Bills didn't show that they had any intention to do so during training camp of the preseason, I'm not so sure that Dante Pettis had any room on this team.
- 12:24SPEAKER_00: Wow, an interesting release by the Detroit Lions, veteran wide receiver Greg Dorch.
- 12:29SPEAKER_00: He was a free agent addition this offseason.
- 12:32SPEAKER_00: That might be somebody who the Bills may have considered previously.
- 12:35SPEAKER_00: I'm not so sure at this point, with their wide receiver room really kind of jam-packed.
- 12:39SPEAKER_00: You have Trent Shurfield on the roster bubble, and he has yet to be involved in any of these reports, whether incoming or outgoing in terms of the Bills roster.
- 12:51SPEAKER_00: So it'll be interesting to see if they keep him.
- 12:54SPEAKER_00: But I doubt at this point the Bills would have any interest in Greg Dorch.
- 13:00SPEAKER_00: But along with Kennai Walker, a few others reportedly cut, you had quarterback Shane Buschel that reported by Adam Schefter.
- 13:08SPEAKER_00: Wow, also former high-level draft pick Jalen Hyatt is being waived by the New York Giants.
- 13:17SPEAKER_00: Another surprise release here on Cutdown Day.
- 13:20SPEAKER_00: But Shane Buchel out as the Bills' potential backup quarterback.
- 13:25SPEAKER_00: That means Kyle Allen has won the QB2 role for the Bills.
- 13:28SPEAKER_00: And Allen had a phenomenal preseason.
- 13:30SPEAKER_00: Listen, I criticized him heavily to begin this preseason.
- 13:34SPEAKER_00: I don't think the Bills had a great quarterback room to begin this summer.
- 13:40SPEAKER_00: But what we've seen from Kyle Allen through three pre or two preseason games, I should say, he was really impressive.
- 13:46SPEAKER_00: So perhaps making me eat my words here.
- 13:49SPEAKER_00: But Buschel reportedly cut.
- 13:51SPEAKER_00: Also wide receivers, Jamori Macklin and Max Tomzak.
- 13:55SPEAKER_00: Macklin had 71-yard touchdown down the sideline during the Bills' preseason game.
- 14:01SPEAKER_00: I'm sure a lot of fans remember that.
- 14:05SPEAKER_00: And it's been reported that the Bills are making him a priority practice squad addition.
- 14:09SPEAKER_00: So you may not have seen the last of Macklin here, the cousin of former Philadelphia Eagles wide receiver Jeremy Macklin.
- 14:17SPEAKER_00: So Jamori Macklin, Tom Zach on their way out.
- 14:20SPEAKER_00: Also, punter Mitch Wisnowski was reportedly informed of his release on Saturday.
- 14:25SPEAKER_00: That means rookie Tommy Doman Jr.
- 14:28SPEAKER_00: has won the punter job in his first professional season.
- 14:31SPEAKER_00: And that's really no surprise.
- 14:33SPEAKER_00: Uh our good buddy Bruce Nolan had previously gone through the past several punters drafted, and there weren't many.
- 14:42SPEAKER_00: I think there was only one that had not been kept by the team that drafted them out of training camp over the past however many years.
- 14:49SPEAKER_00: And it was Mattariza for the Bills, who obviously underwent some allegations off the field.
- 14:54SPEAKER_00: So it wasn't necessarily cut due to performance.
- 14:58SPEAKER_00: And it is, in fact, reported that Tommy Doma Jr.
- 15:03SPEAKER_00: has won the Bills punter job.
- 15:05SPEAKER_00: And I think that's the right move.
- 15:06SPEAKER_00: He had the better preseason, was better during training camp.
- 15:09SPEAKER_00: And if you bring in the young guy, give him a chance.
- 15:12SPEAKER_00: You can always bring Wischnowski or somebody uh of his ilk back during the regular season if you have to do that down the road.
- 15:20SPEAKER_00: We mentioned already international pathway player Travis Clayton has been cut.
- 15:25SPEAKER_00: And I I kind of see both sides of this argument.
- 15:30SPEAKER_00: I mentioned earlier how seventh-round picks don't hold a lot of value, and we've seen the Bills kind of use those as in another undrafted free agent slot in a sense the past few years.
- 15:41SPEAKER_00: But Travis Clayton, I don't think, ever had any chance to make an NFL roster.
- 15:46SPEAKER_00: He switched from offensive line to defensive line this offseason.
- 15:49SPEAKER_00: I know he never hurt the Bills' roster dynamics, so you were always able to keep him as an extra player due to that international pathway designation.
- 15:58SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, uh I just don't know if he ever had much of a chance.
- 16:02SPEAKER_00: Maybe they get him back as the roster exemption once again on the practice squad this season.
- 16:09SPEAKER_00: But at this point, I think you're just kind of spinning your tires with him.
- 16:13SPEAKER_00: There's really no point.
- 16:14SPEAKER_00: He doesn't have a future in this league.
- 16:16SPEAKER_00: You might as well move on and concentrate your uh energy and everything on the coaching staff and development elsewhere than Travis Clayton.
- 16:27SPEAKER_00: All right, also the 13 cuts on Saturday.
- 16:30SPEAKER_00: I think we've named a few of them already.
- 16:32SPEAKER_00: Those included linebacker Kate Denhoff, cornerback Jordan Dunbar, offensive lineman Bruno Fina, defensive tackle, Zion Logue, defensive back, DJ Miller, wide receiver Micole Hardman Jr.
- 16:46SPEAKER_00: Linebacker Theron Gaines, center Sincere Hainsworth, safety, Wanda Owens.
- 16:53SPEAKER_00: We mentioned wide receiver Dante Pettis, linebacker Otis Reese, the fourth, wide receiver Quentin Skinner, and tight end Shane Zilstra.
- 17:03SPEAKER_00: So those were the 13 official cuts that have been made by the Bills thus far.
- 17:08SPEAKER_00: And wow, we have another interesting report here.
- 17:12SPEAKER_00: This from Ryan Talbot, as well as Keontae Jenkins has been cut by the Bills, as I'm gonna tweet here, so I apologize if I get cut off.
- 17:24SPEAKER_00: As Keontae Jenkins was ahead of Joe Andreessen in the in the linebacker pecking order to begin training camp.
- 17:39SPEAKER_00: But due to Andreessen's special teams prowess, I think that makes him a valuable roster edition here, and that's why the Bills end up keeping him.
- 18:02SPEAKER_00: And not that Andreessen has officially been kept on the roster, but Jenkins being cut, that would appear to pave the way for Andreessen to make his way back to the 53-man roster.
- 18:18SPEAKER_00: And maybe Andreessen was never really in question to begin with.
- 18:24SPEAKER_00: Like I said, due to that special teams prowess, he's been an elite special teams player for the Bills the past few seasons.
- 18:30SPEAKER_00: I believe he was second in the NFL in special teams tackles last year.
- 18:37SPEAKER_00: So he's obviously proven himself in that phase of the game.
- 18:39SPEAKER_00: And while Keonta Jenkins is certainly capable on special teams and might have more of a higher upside when it comes to the linebacker position, I think the Bills just really like the story with Buffalo Joe.
- 18:55SPEAKER_00: And I don't have anything concrete on this, but I have a feeling that the Pagoas have a couple of their favorite players.
- 19:02SPEAKER_00: And I think two of them are Buffalo Joe Andreessen, hometown kid, who is a great story, and also Damar Hamlin, who's obviously inspired so many with his comeback story.
- 19:14SPEAKER_00: He's the Bills' third safety as it stands in my mind right now.
- 19:18SPEAKER_00: I didn't mention another reported cut today.
- 19:21SPEAKER_00: Gino Stone at the safety position, a free agent edition.
- 19:25SPEAKER_00: So Gino Stone on his way out, that pretty much solidifies Damar Hamlin's spot on the roster.
- 19:30SPEAKER_00: And when you look at Andreessen and Hamlin, I really think that those are two players that, unless there's somebody who's really outperforming either one and really showing that they deserve a roster spot over one or the other, I think that the Bills are inclined to keep those two around as long as possible due to their ties to the local area when it comes to Andreessen and the great story that is Damar Hamlin working his way from a near-death experience back to previously a starting role, now a depth roll for the Bills, expectedly, when they trim their roster down to 53 players in just about 30 minutes, maybe a little bit earlier here in a few minutes.
- 20:21SPEAKER_00: Texans have placed wide receiver Tank Dell on injured reserve.
- 20:25SPEAKER_00: That's no surprise.
- 20:26SPEAKER_00: They are also lost Jaden Higgins this offseason to an injury.
- 20:31SPEAKER_00: So the Texans' wide receiver position is very depleted at this point.
- 20:36SPEAKER_00: And that's good news for the Bills.
- 20:38SPEAKER_00: Their offense isn't great to begin with.
- 20:40SPEAKER_00: It's really their defense that you have to worry about.
- 20:42SPEAKER_00: So if the Bills can hold the Texans to under 20 points, that should give them a good opportunity to win that week one game against Houston.
- 20:59SPEAKER_00: Sorry, tweeting again.
- 21:34SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, some of the Texans' depth and really surface of the depth chart as well has uh been depleted here over the past several weeks.
- 21:47SPEAKER_00: All right, but let's get to the roster bubble here as we're getting down to the nitty gritty as far as the Bills releasing their final cuts here on this Sunday, the preseason wrapped up on Saturday.
- 22:00SPEAKER_00: A lot of great action going on across the league.
- 22:03SPEAKER_00: A lot of decisions to be made as well for a lot of teams.
- 22:08SPEAKER_00: And it looks like Odell Beckham Jr.
- 22:11SPEAKER_00: has made the Giants roster.
- 22:12SPEAKER_00: So that's an interesting development.
- 22:14SPEAKER_00: Good comeback story there for OBJ.
- 22:17SPEAKER_00: But the Bills roster bubble, let's examine that quickly.
- 22:20SPEAKER_00: They have 10 players, I believe, left to decide on here.
- 22:28SPEAKER_00: And if you look at the roster bubble, you've got a few that are candidates for the injured reserve, namely Jude Bowery, the rookie.
- 22:38SPEAKER_00: He went out during the Bills' preseason game.
- 22:41SPEAKER_00: And the fourth round pick really didn't show that he was worthy of that swing tackle role that many believed he was in line for to begin this offseason.
- 22:50SPEAKER_00: So maybe the Bills try to keep him around without occupying a roster spot and place him on that injured reserve and instead give Tylon Grable the opportunity to return to that swing tackle role that he held a couple of seasons ago.
- 23:06SPEAKER_00: And I never liked the Jude Bowery signing when the Bills did it.
- 23:11SPEAKER_00: I thought it was a reach, a player from Boston College, one of the worst programs in college football.
- 23:18SPEAKER_00: But uh if they were able to sneak him onto the injured reserve, that would kind of lessen the blow.
- 23:24SPEAKER_00: It wouldn't waste a roster spot on him, allow him maybe to develop off the field and his cerebral side of the game before he gets out there physically on any meaningful snaps.
- 23:37SPEAKER_00: Elsewhere on the offensive line, another draft pick.
- 23:40SPEAKER_00: Armaj Reed Adams, another seventh round pick.
- 23:43SPEAKER_00: He has not been revealed as one of the Bills' cuts here yet today, whether it be officially yesterday or the reports that have come out today.
- 23:53SPEAKER_00: So we'll see if Armaj Reed Adams sticks around.
- 23:56SPEAKER_00: He is a guard, not a tackle, like Jude Bowery's primary position.
- 24:01SPEAKER_00: So no chance for him to occupy that swing tackle role.
- 24:06SPEAKER_00: But the Bills do still need some depth.
- 24:08SPEAKER_00: I think part of that depth is going to be Austin Corbett at the position, as Corbett started in competition with Alec Anderson this offseason, but eventually it's been reported that Anderson has won the starting job at left guard.
- 24:22SPEAKER_00: That leaves Austin Corbett really fighting for his own roster spot here, although I think it's fairly secure, much more so than Armaj Reed Adams at this point.
- 24:34SPEAKER_00: We mentioned Chase Lunt has been let go.
- 24:37SPEAKER_00: And then another key position.
- 24:39SPEAKER_00: It may not seem key, but the backup nose tackle role behind Deion Walker.
- 24:47SPEAKER_00: As we have John Black chiming in with Trent Shurfield was released.
- 24:53SPEAKER_00: Let me search here and make sure that's not a fake account.
- 25:00SPEAKER_00: Because we did have an account report yesterday that Can I Walker had made the team, but that was indeed not the case.
- 25:09SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think Shurfield has been released.
- 25:14SPEAKER_00: I I don't see that here.
- 25:17SPEAKER_00: So we'll have to keep our eye on that as we go.
- 25:23SPEAKER_00: But I mentioned the defensive tackle position, namely the backup nose tackle beyond Deion Walker.
- 25:28SPEAKER_00: Will it be Dwayne Carter?
- 25:30SPEAKER_00: Will it be new edition Greg Gaines picked up off the free agent pile just before the Bills' preseason game against the Cleveland Browns?
- 25:40SPEAKER_00: Dwayne Carter, a former third-round pick of the Bills, really in Boogie Basham territory right now, who was just released again the other day as one of Brandon Bean's worst draft picks in his tenure.
- 25:53SPEAKER_00: I know Kyer Elam probably holds that crown, and he was released today as well.
- 25:59SPEAKER_00: Uh with Walker on his way out.
- 26:02SPEAKER_00: That would be interesting if the Bills brought back Kyer Elam at this point.
- 26:08SPEAKER_00: Really, Brandon Bean has the opportunity to do the funniest thing ever and bring back Kyer Elam to fill a depth position on the Bills roster.
- 26:18SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, we'll see how that shakes out.
- 26:23SPEAKER_00: But getting back to that nose tackle position, Dwayne Carter has really not done anything since coming into the league to prove that he's worthy of a roster spot in the NFL.
- 26:33SPEAKER_00: I think there were some high on him out of the draft, but it's been injuries and underperformance ever since he stepped foot on an NFL field.
- 26:41SPEAKER_00: He suffered the torn Achilles before he was even able to make it to, I believe, the preseason last year.
- 26:47SPEAKER_00: He works his way back, gained some weight, tries to work his way behind Deion Walker in that backup nose tackle role, but didn't do anything during the preseason from my vantage point to prove that he's worthy of a roster spot.
- 27:00SPEAKER_00: And during my time at practice this season, he also didn't do much.
- 27:04SPEAKER_00: So I just don't see a path to the roster for Dwayne Carter.
- 27:08SPEAKER_00: Maybe Bean is stubborn and refuses to admit his mistake and keeps him around.
- 27:13SPEAKER_00: But I think if you release him, you could get him back on the practice squad if you want to.
- 27:18SPEAKER_00: Because I don't know if there's any market.
- 27:20SPEAKER_00: He is a former third-round pick, but he has not been any good since he entered the league and has shown very limited flashes in terms of his ability at this level.
- 27:31SPEAKER_00: So I don't know if there's going to be teams on the outside beating the door down to sign Dwayne Carter if the Bills release him.
- 27:39SPEAKER_00: If they want to, they could bring him back on the practice squad, I would think, and keep him around that way.
- 27:45SPEAKER_00: Because he seems like a great guy, a great player to have in front of the camera on social media and be a face of the organization in that sense, an ambassador, I should say.
- 27:54SPEAKER_00: But as far as his performance on the field hasn't been good enough, and I don't think he is worthy of a roster spot.
- 28:01SPEAKER_00: And you watched Greg Gaines, albeit in limited time on the field this past week, and I believe he's on the field during the joint practice, and there were a few reviews that he did pretty well during that session.
- 28:14SPEAKER_00: Gaines being a veteran present, somebody who's proven that he can produce in the NFL a much safer player to have on your roster at the bottom of the depth chart than Dwayne Carter would be at this point.
- 28:27SPEAKER_00: And I think the Bills would be silly to favor Carter over Greg Gaines at this point.
- 28:34SPEAKER_00: Elsewhere, you have the edge rusher position.
- 28:37SPEAKER_00: I think one roster spot comes down to three players.
- 28:41SPEAKER_00: It's really Javon Solomon and Mike Dana, I believe, are the two vying for a final roster spot at the edge rusher position.
- 28:48SPEAKER_00: But Andre Jones Jr.
- 28:50SPEAKER_00: has kind of sparked conversation amongst the media sphere as he performed well during the preseason and has made a few people wonder whether he's worthy of sticking around on the team's initial 53-man roster.
- 29:03SPEAKER_00: So we'll have to wait and see on that.
- 29:05SPEAKER_00: But when it comes down to it for me, I think Solomon, due to his special teams capability, again, I mentioned that with Andreessen earlier.
- 29:14SPEAKER_00: I think he's going to stick around.
- 29:15SPEAKER_00: And you've heard Brandon Bean and Joe Brady, for that matter, both talk about Solomon this offseason.
- 29:24SPEAKER_00: And I think their words kind of hint at a favorable perspective on him when it comes to his potential of making the roster.
- 29:35SPEAKER_00: So if that's true, it comes down to Dana and Andre Jones Jr.
- 29:40SPEAKER_00: if they want to keep an extra one.
- 29:41SPEAKER_00: And I don't think they will between those two.
- 29:43SPEAKER_00: I think at the end of the day, it's going to be Javon Solomon making the roster and Dana and Jones Jr., who probably showed more than Solomon in terms of pass rushing prowess during this preseason in training camp.
- 29:56SPEAKER_00: I think those two will be on their way out.
- 29:59SPEAKER_00: While Jones Jr.
- 30:00SPEAKER_00: might be brought back to the practice squad.
- 30:02SPEAKER_00: Dana probably will be scooped up by another team.
- 30:06SPEAKER_00: Or maybe uh he'll be looking for another opportunity.
- 30:09SPEAKER_00: A veteran, somebody who's played in the Super Bowl.
- 30:11SPEAKER_00: So uh a little bit more experienced than Andre Jones Jr.
- 30:14SPEAKER_00: I think Dana might have more of a market if he is indeed cut by the Bills here down the road.
- 30:20SPEAKER_00: And we have a question before we keep moving on with the roster bubble.
- 30:25SPEAKER_00: Do you think Buffalo will bring Matt Milano back to the practice squad if he is still unsigned?
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I don't think so.
- 30:32SPEAKER_00: I don't think Milano at this stage of his career would be willing to be a practice squad participant.
- 30:39SPEAKER_00: I think the more likely scenario with Milano would be, as you saw, A.J.
- 30:44SPEAKER_00: Klein years ago, as he was getting ready to go on vacation late in the year, the Bills called him, got him off the couch, and thrust him into action.
- 30:53SPEAKER_00: I think that might be the only way that Milano might work his way back onto the Bills' roster as if they are besieged by injury at the linebacker position and they wind up bringing Milano back because I've already mentioned they've cut Keontae Jenkins.
- 31:08SPEAKER_00: I think he's a practice squad candidate.
- 31:10SPEAKER_00: They have Joanne Dreessen.
- 31:12SPEAKER_00: So if they get bereft of depth, I think they could reach back out to Milano and see if he's willing to come back because he is still a free agent, and I'm not so sure somebody with kind of the way that he is and his mentality is going to be quick to sign with an unfamiliar team.
- 31:30SPEAKER_00: So he might be biding his time along with Tradavius White to see how things kind of develop with the Buffalo Bills.
- 31:37SPEAKER_00: But I don't think right now Milano is much of an option to be brought back to the Bills practice squad.
- 31:44SPEAKER_00: More roster bubble here.
- 31:47SPEAKER_00: Mentioned Jenkins being reportedly cut.
- 31:49SPEAKER_00: Jimmy Charlo, the farmer former Army captain, another player on the roster bubble.
- 31:57SPEAKER_00: So with Jenkins and Andreessen being ahead of him, I don't think there's any chance for Charlo.
- 32:04SPEAKER_00: Sam Franklin Jr.
- 32:06SPEAKER_00: at the safety position.
- 32:07SPEAKER_00: Already mentioned Gino Stone on his way out.
- 32:09SPEAKER_00: And I think that's good news for Sam Franklin.
- 32:11SPEAKER_00: I think if they kept Gino Stone, there would be absolutely no room for Sam Franklin Jr.
- 32:17SPEAKER_00: Another special team standout.
- 32:19SPEAKER_00: And there was question whether the Bills would be inclined to keep those type of players around, with that really being a Sean or seemingly being a Sean McDermott thing in the past, with the Bills keeping those special teams first players.
- 32:33SPEAKER_00: We all remember Tyler Medikovich before he moved on from the Bills in free agency.
- 32:38SPEAKER_00: And now Franklin Jr.
- 32:40SPEAKER_00: really that prototype special teams player.
- 32:43SPEAKER_00: And I think the Bills are going to keep him after they let go of Jones, uh Stone, excuse me.
- 32:50SPEAKER_00: So Franklin Jr.
- 32:51SPEAKER_00: made my initial 53-man roster projection, and I think he ends up sticking around here on the Bills roster.
- 32:58SPEAKER_00: We have a question here about Red Murdoch.
- 33:00SPEAKER_00: He was recently released, and I was pounding the drum for the Bills to draft him in the seventh round of the draft.
- 33:07SPEAKER_00: They missed out, in my opinion, anyway, on Sean Dolak last year.
- 33:12SPEAKER_00: Not that Dolak is the second coming of Dick Buckis or anything, but I think Dolak could be a player similar to Joe Andreessen, a special teams contributor, somebody who could develop into a potential depth player down the road.
- 33:26SPEAKER_00: And Murdoch was a much more, I shouldn't say much more, a more impressive player, I think, a more impressive NFL prospect than Dolak at the college level.
- 33:37SPEAKER_00: So maybe the Bills sticking at the linebacker position, maybe they consider going out there and seeing if Red Murdoch is interested in joining their practice squad, but certainly not a candidate to make the roster or anything at this point after he was released by his team already.
- 34:00SPEAKER_00: All right, finally, the running back position.
- 34:03SPEAKER_00: We've spoken so much about Ian Wheeler this offseason.
- 34:07SPEAKER_00: He's really shined for the Bills since training camp began.
- 34:10SPEAKER_00: That continued to bleed into the preseason as he is pushing Frank Gore Jr.
- 34:16SPEAKER_00: for that running back four job, that really that top of the practice squad spot at the running back position.
- 34:24SPEAKER_00: I'm not so sure the Bills will keep two running backs on the practice squad.
- 34:28SPEAKER_00: They could.
- 34:29SPEAKER_00: It's not beyond the realm of comprehension, but at the same time, I think Wheeler has done enough to outdo Gore Jr.
- 34:37SPEAKER_00: for that role.
- 34:38SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't be shocked or be upset if the Bills kept Gore Jr.
- 34:44SPEAKER_00: as their practice squad running back, but I tend to favor Ian Wheeler.
- 34:48SPEAKER_00: I think he's a little bit more physical of a back, and he's also shown some speed.
- 34:52SPEAKER_00: And listen, Gore Jr.
- 34:55SPEAKER_00: has shown flashes for the Bills over the last few years, but I am kind of prisoner, prisoner of the moment when it comes to these things.
- 35:04SPEAKER_00: Flavor of the week, if you want to call it, when it comes to a practice squad running back, what have you done for me lately?
- 35:09SPEAKER_00: And what Ian Wheeler has done for me lately, although I did say that Gore Jr.
- 35:14SPEAKER_00: had a good game against the Steelers despite some unflattering rushing totals and averages.
- 35:22SPEAKER_00: He did have a nice catch out of the backfield, put a move on a Steelers defender before scoring a touchdown.
- 35:28SPEAKER_00: But I agree with Ed Ryan.
- 35:30SPEAKER_00: I think you move on from Gore and you keep Wheeler on the practice squad if it comes down to those two players.
- 35:38SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 35:39SPEAKER_00: A little bit of a break here.

- 37:33SPEAKER_00: I know they let you keep the window open now on the YouTube app.
- 37:36SPEAKER_00: So uh a lot of good things happening on the channel, and would really, really appreciate it if you helped us spread the word here on the channel.
- 37:48SPEAKER_00: But a lot of talk about Kennai Walker and Tradavius White, the cornerback position as a whole, Torreano Pride also cut, and it really brings me to my next thought at that position.
- 38:04SPEAKER_00: How long of a leash does Maxwell Hairston have entering the regular season?
- 38:10SPEAKER_00: I know that Joe Brady declared him as the Bills cornerback to opposite Christian Benford, but will we see a rotation at that position immediately to start the year?
- 38:20SPEAKER_00: Will it kind of build as the season goes?
- 38:24SPEAKER_00: Will they quickly pull Harrison out and insert Davison Igbenoson, the rookie second round pick in there in the starting role as quickly as week two?
- 38:38SPEAKER_00: How short of a leash, how long of a leash will the Bills have for Maxwell Harrison in his second year since becoming the first round pick of the 2025 Bills draft class?
- 38:52SPEAKER_00: And if you ask me, the leash should not be very long.
- 38:55SPEAKER_00: He did not perform well during training camp or the preseason when he was on the field.
- 39:00SPEAKER_00: Also dealt with injury once again, which was a concern for him last year.
- 39:04SPEAKER_00: A few injuries, the knee injury early that kept him off the field for, I believe, the first six weeks of the season, and then the ankle injury, which held him out of the postseason, which I still blame on Sean McDermott.
- 39:16SPEAKER_00: Should have never been in that game against the Jets, but still it happened.
- 39:19SPEAKER_00: And I'm worried that he's a little bit injury prone.
- 39:23SPEAKER_00: So do you really want to put all your eggs, not saying the Bills are doing this, but do you want to even put most of your eggs in the Maxwell Harrison basket?
- 39:30SPEAKER_00: Or do you really want to be quick to pull the plug on him, get Igbo Nosen out there, see what he has to offer?
- 39:37SPEAKER_00: Because I think he showed more physicality during the preseason.
- 39:41SPEAKER_00: I think he has a higher ceiling, frankly.
- 39:44SPEAKER_00: Or I shouldn't say that.
- 39:47SPEAKER_00: I think he could give you more consistent play this year than Harrison can in Jim Leonard's new defense.
- 39:55SPEAKER_00: Now, with Harrison's athletic traits and his speed and his ability to cover those fast twitch wide receivers deep down the field, or at least projected ability to do so, I think he may have an impressive ceiling.
- 40:14SPEAKER_00: But in terms of right now, what I've seen this offseason, I think Igbenoson is the better option.
- 40:20SPEAKER_00: I think he's been the better cover man.
- 40:22SPEAKER_00: And the Bill's run defense was so poor, particularly on the edge last year.
- 40:27SPEAKER_00: They might need somebody like Igbenosin to really step up and hit on the outside and down opposing ball carriers when they get into the open field, as he proved he could do against the Steelers.
- 40:39SPEAKER_00: Whereas Maxwell Harrison proved he could not do that against the Steelers.
- 40:43SPEAKER_00: So I'm really worried about Harrison, not as worried about Igbenosin.
- 40:48SPEAKER_00: And I know I didn't like the Igbenosen pick out of the draft, but everyone has the right to change their mind.
- 40:53SPEAKER_00: And it would be silly for me at this point to stick to my guns after what I've seen from Igbenosen.
- 40:58SPEAKER_00: I'm still a little bit concerned about his penalties.
- 41:01SPEAKER_00: I didn't love that the Bills traded up for him when they did and the positional needs, this, that, and the other thing.
- 41:06SPEAKER_00: But putting all that aside, based on his performance this summer, from what I've seen from Davison Igbenosen, I would be more comfortable with him as a starter at the cornerback position than Maxwell Harrison.
- 41:21SPEAKER_00: And we have a question here about another position from Border Mare, Bordermert, one of the two, who would you prefer for punt returner?
- 41:31SPEAKER_00: It's a good question.
- 41:32SPEAKER_00: I discussed it already that Brandon Codrington has been cut and he's out there, was cut by the Texans.
- 41:39SPEAKER_00: So maybe the Bills bring him back.
- 41:41SPEAKER_00: Maybe they go after another player that is kind of floating out there after roster cut down.
- 41:47SPEAKER_00: But if you were to ask me on the Bills roster, not one of the reported cuts right now, I would probably go with Khalil Shakir just to be safe.
- 41:57SPEAKER_00: He's proven he can at least catch the ball.
- 41:59SPEAKER_00: I would ask him not to risk his body because he's too important to the passing game.
- 42:05SPEAKER_00: And unless you're able to find that quality option right away, you might have to go to Shakir, at least in the short term, just to fill that hole.
- 42:16SPEAKER_00: Because you can't trust Keon Coleman back there.
- 42:19SPEAKER_00: You can't trust Ray Davis.
- 42:21SPEAKER_00: You've cut bait on Micole Hardman Jr.
- 42:24SPEAKER_00: Maybe Jalen Kilgore is an option, but you didn't see them commit much concentration to putting him back there during the preseason or training camp.
- 42:32SPEAKER_00: And also, I think he could be a healthy scratch on game days just due to the roster numbers and how it works out on Sundays, Mondays, Thursdays, Saturdays.
- 42:42SPEAKER_00: Uh it seems like the NFL plays every day of the week now.
- 42:45SPEAKER_00: But if you were to ask me who I would prefer at Punt Returner in terms of right now, it would probably be Khalil Shakir.
- 42:54SPEAKER_00: Carlos with another question: Do you think we should sign Will Levis to the practice squad?
- 42:58SPEAKER_00: He reminds me of Josh in some ways.
- 43:00SPEAKER_00: And that was my thought as well when I saw that the Titans were cutting bait on their former high-level pick, their former starter, in fact, and I saw others bring it up as well.
- 43:16SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't hate it.
- 43:18SPEAKER_00: I wouldn't hate Will Lewis over Shane Buchel.
- 43:22SPEAKER_00: I I don't think Buschel is ever going to be able to be used in a starting capacity where the Bills really need to win a game.
- 43:30SPEAKER_00: I think if it comes down to it, Josh Allen gets hurt this year, they might throw Kyle Allen out there.
- 43:37SPEAKER_00: I still think they could sign somebody, maybe one of the veterans out there that Derek Carr comes to mind, somebody that could fill in on a short term basis.
- 43:47SPEAKER_00: But I don't think they would even think about it with Buschell.
- 43:52SPEAKER_00: So would Levis uh be in that conversation?
- 43:57SPEAKER_00: And we have another option here, Joe Milton the third.
- 44:00SPEAKER_00: Uh, I know that he's kind of a highly sought-after prospect right now.
- 44:05SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's going to be cut.
- 44:06SPEAKER_00: I think he's on the Cowboys right now.
- 44:08SPEAKER_00: He had a good preseason once again.
- 44:10SPEAKER_00: But yeah, I wouldn't hate the Bills bringing a different player other than Buchell back to their practice squad at this point.
- 44:20SPEAKER_00: I just don't think that Bouchel has any type of future in this league.
- 44:28SPEAKER_00: Let's get to a few more questions here from those of you chiming in in the comments, or at least comments from those of you chiming in in the comments.
- 44:41SPEAKER_00: As Robert says, the Bills are not bringing back Elam.
- 44:44SPEAKER_00: I will bet money on it.
- 44:46SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I don't think that the Bills are going to bring back Kyer Elam.
- 44:49SPEAKER_00: I said that in jest.
- 44:50SPEAKER_00: It would just be kind of another thing for Bills fans to really get furious with Brandon Bean about, as he's made a lot of questionable moves these past few seasons in terms of bringing back former players.
- 45:02SPEAKER_00: We saw Balin Spector uh put on the open market today as well.
- 45:07SPEAKER_00: So maybe they they test the waters on him uh after they they reach their final cuts.
- 45:15SPEAKER_00: But no, I I don't think there's any chance that they bring back Kyer Elam or anybody like that.
- 45:20SPEAKER_00: And I see Hayden, yeah, you you chime in here about who reported that Trent Shurfield was waived.
- 45:25SPEAKER_00: It was the same account that falsely reported that Kennet Walker had made the roster.
- 45:31SPEAKER_00: So take that with a grain of salt.
- 45:33SPEAKER_00: Always consider the source and really never go beyond the Bills' beat writers that do a great job reporting on these things.
- 45:40SPEAKER_00: Ryan Telbett, Joe Biskelia, Jay Skersky have all reported several cuts already today.
- 45:50SPEAKER_00: So about four minutes to go until the Bills cuts are due.
- 45:57SPEAKER_00: And we have another question here.
- 45:58SPEAKER_00: What are you thinking, one?
- 45:59SPEAKER_00: Who do you think you're using as gunners on kick coverage?
- 46:03SPEAKER_00: Thanks for doing this.
- 46:04SPEAKER_00: You're welcome.
- 46:05SPEAKER_00: Uh, no problem.
- 46:06SPEAKER_00: And it's tough for me to say.
- 46:08SPEAKER_00: Uh, I'm not a special teams guru by any means, but I would imagine that you would have these wide receivers and defensive backs that you're keeping at the bottom of the roster as far as that position is concerned.
- 46:24SPEAKER_00: You have Sam Franklin Jr., you have Trent Shurfield, perhaps, as an option, as he's kind of a placeholder for Tyrell Shavers, who's likely to start the season on the pup list.
- 46:38SPEAKER_00: And yes, as Andy agrees with me, as I'm no special teams guru, but maybe Andy is, and we're on the same wavelength here, Franklin and Shurfield.
- 46:46SPEAKER_00: Those would be my top two candidates, but at the same time, both of them are on the roster bubble at this point.
- 46:53SPEAKER_00: So we could see the Bills go in a different direction at that position.
- 47:01SPEAKER_00: All right, a few more questions here as we get a little bit closer.
- 47:06SPEAKER_00: I'll be honest, I thought the Bills might announce their final cuts by now.
- 47:10SPEAKER_00: As like I said, a few teams have already done so.
- 47:13SPEAKER_00: We've got more leaking out here.
- 47:15SPEAKER_00: The Giants, former first-round pick, Evan Neal, an offensive guard, tackle, uh versatile player is being released.
- 47:23SPEAKER_00: I know that he was quite the polarizing figure with the Giants during his time in New York.
- 47:28SPEAKER_00: Started 27 games, so I don't think he's much of an option.
- 47:33SPEAKER_00: Bishop agrees with myself and Andy that it's probably Franklin and Shurfield as the Bills gunners, but let's move off of the questions for the time being and talk about Aaron Donald returning to the NFL.
- 47:48SPEAKER_00: Obviously, that affects the Bills.
- 47:50SPEAKER_00: The future Hall of Fame defensive tackle set to square off with Buffalo's new look offensive line in week five when the Bills take on the Rams, who also added Miles Garrett this offseason.
- 48:03SPEAKER_00: So the Rams are really bolstering their defense to the nth degree.
- 48:08SPEAKER_00: I think they added Trent McDuffie this offseason as well.
- 48:12SPEAKER_00: So just a number of huge additions, seismic additions for the Rams.
- 48:17SPEAKER_00: That makes that week five matchup for the Bills one of the most daunting on their schedule.
- 48:22SPEAKER_00: And look, do I think Aaron Donald is going to come back and be the same player he was before missing the last two seasons when he went into retirement?
- 48:30SPEAKER_00: No, I don't think he will.
- 48:31SPEAKER_00: He's getting$20 million,$30 million in incentives.
- 48:35SPEAKER_00: Will he reach all those incentives?
- 48:37SPEAKER_00: I'm just not sure because you're going to have to take it slow with him, obviously, to start the season.
- 48:43SPEAKER_00: He hasn't played in preseason games.
- 48:44SPEAKER_00: He's been working out off to the side, but still, when you bring back a player of that level and that caliber, that strikes fear in the heart of opponents.
- 48:55SPEAKER_00: I don't care who you are, and the Bills are going to have to game plan for him.
- 48:58SPEAKER_00: They're going to have to throw some double teams at him.
- 49:00SPEAKER_00: And you're already worried about Miles Garrett on the edge.
- 49:03SPEAKER_00: Now you have to worry about Aaron Donald on the interior.
- 49:07SPEAKER_00: And that's just a frightening one-two punch for the Rams defensive line.
- 49:13SPEAKER_00: And just as we just brought up Andy's uh comment, that should be illegal for a team to have those two players on the same team.
- 49:22SPEAKER_00: Imagine if Donald was still playing all this time and he was still at the height of his powers when the Rams signed Garrett this offseason.
- 49:31SPEAKER_00: That would be even more challenging for the Bills heading into that week five matchup.
- 49:38SPEAKER_00: And I thought it was a great move by the Rams social media team.
- 49:42SPEAKER_00: They went with the old Michael Jordan letter.
- 49:45SPEAKER_00: Uh, dear Commissioner Roger Goodell, I'm back, signed Aaron Donald.
- 49:50SPEAKER_00: Uh, that was a nice touch there as well.
- 49:52SPEAKER_00: And William Tarkowski chimes in.
- 49:54SPEAKER_00: Did they keep Donna?
- 49:57SPEAKER_00: But I think he means Dana.
- 49:58SPEAKER_00: Hasn't been revealed yet, as far as I've seen.
- 50:01SPEAKER_00: The reports that have come out that I've been following, I have not seen Mike Dana a part of them.
- 50:08SPEAKER_00: We'll run through the list one more time here.
- 50:11SPEAKER_00: The reported cuts or official cuts that the Bills release as part of a 13-player group on Saturday that I've seen.
- 50:19SPEAKER_00: Cornerback Kennai Walker, quarterback Shane Buchell, wide receivers, Jamori Macklin, and Max Tomzak, Punter which Mitch Wischnowski, defensive lineman, Travis Clayton, who switched from offensive line last year.
- 50:35SPEAKER_00: Those were all reported cuts that I've seen floating around out there, along with Toriano Pride Jr.
- 50:43SPEAKER_00: and safety Geno Stone.
- 50:46SPEAKER_00: The Bills also announced 13 cuts on Saturday as Kate Denhoff, a linebacker, Jordan Dunbar, cornerback, and then offensive lineman Bruno Fina, the son of Bill's legend, John Fina, defensive tackle, Zion Logue, defensive back DJ Miller, wide receiver Micole Hardman Jr., also part of the punt return conversation.
- 51:14SPEAKER_00: He's been released officially.
- 51:16SPEAKER_00: Linebacker Theron Gaines, center, Sincere Hainsworth, safety, Wanda Owens, wide receiver Dante Pettis, linebacker Otis Reith Reese, the fourth, wide receiver Quentin Skinner, and tight end Shane Zalstra.
- 51:33SPEAKER_00: William, I already answered your question.
- 51:35SPEAKER_00: I'm not sure if they've kept Mike Dana.
- 51:37SPEAKER_00: I have not seen it reported one way or the other, so we're still waiting on word on Mike Dana, a big Mike Dana fan there.
- 51:46SPEAKER_00: The Bills also traded Cedric Van Pran Granger to the Colts, a former fifth-round pick of the Bills.
- 51:52SPEAKER_00: They gave away a seventh rounder as well in the deal, and they got a sixth round pick, both of those picks in next year's draft, and they dealt with the Colts to acquire that move up in the draft next season.
- 52:11SPEAKER_00: So that's really the recap of what we've seen happen so far.
- 52:17SPEAKER_00: And it is officially 6 p.m.
- 52:20SPEAKER_00: So the Bills' roster cuts are coming at any moment now, as all teams must have their slate down to 53 players at this time.
- 52:31SPEAKER_00: But some players who have made the team tonight may not be uh excuse me, some players who make the team today could still be released as like I mentioned before.
- 52:49SPEAKER_00: This is an initial 53-man roster.
- 52:52SPEAKER_00: This is not final, as there really is no final 53-man roster.
- 52:57SPEAKER_00: The Bills can really finesse it as much as they want to throughout the course of the season, bringing players in and out.
- 53:06SPEAKER_00: But every team must have their initial 53-man roster set by 6 p.m.
- 53:12SPEAKER_00: So just waiting for the Bills to tweet it out.
- 53:14SPEAKER_00: I see that the Minnesota Vikings have tweeted out their 53-man roster and breaking news, Justin Jefferson has made the roster.
- 53:23SPEAKER_00: I know that really all the talk there was regarding Kyler Murray being named the starting quarterback after he was acquired via free agency.
- 53:35SPEAKER_00: And let's see if JJ McCarthy made the team.
- 53:39SPEAKER_00: He did.
- 53:40SPEAKER_00: They're keeping four quarterbacks are the Vikings.
- 53:48SPEAKER_00: That's interesting.
- 53:49SPEAKER_00: I expect the Bills to keep only two quarterbacks on their 53-man roster.
- 53:53SPEAKER_00: I know that other teams have seemed to be interested in keeping four as well, along with the Browns, who plan to keep Dylan Gabriel on that roster, which kind of shocks me.
- 54:05SPEAKER_00: I think the Steelers are also going to keep four on their 53-man roster, but it'll be interesting to see what the Bills do at that position and a few other positions as we get ready for them to announce their final 53-man roster.
- 54:21SPEAKER_00: So once again, Canai Walker, Shane Duchel, Jamori Macklin, Max Tomzak, Mitch Wischnowski, Travis Clayton, Kate Denhoff, Jordan Dunbar, Bruno Fina, Zion Logue, DJ Miller, Nicole Hardman Jr., Theron Gaines, Sincere Hainsworth, Wande Owens, Dante Pettis, Otis Reese, Quentin Skinner, Shane Zaustra, Torreano Pride Jr., and Geno Stone, all players who I've seen either officially or reportedly released by the Buffalo Bills.
- 54:54SPEAKER_00: And the roster bubble, I mentioned earlier, I think the top players on that roster bubble: Greg Gaines, Dwayne Carter, Jude Bowery, Nick Broker, Armaj Reed Adams, Andre Jones Jr.
- 55:07SPEAKER_00: We've talked about Mike Dana a few minutes ago.
- 55:09SPEAKER_00: Keontae Jenkins was another player who was also reportedly released at the linebacker position.
- 55:16SPEAKER_00: Jimmy Charlo, uh also on the roster bubble, but I don't think he has much of a chance to make the team.
- 55:22SPEAKER_00: Sam Franklin Jr., Ian Wheeler and uh Frank Orr Jr.
- 55:27SPEAKER_00: at the running back position.
- 55:29SPEAKER_00: So a bunch of players still on the roster bubble.
- 55:32SPEAKER_00: Bills have about 10 players left to be revealed here that won't make the roster.
- 55:39SPEAKER_00: And as Mark says here, wish the NFL would up the number to 55.
- 55:45SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I mean, I'm not so sure that there's much reason to do so.
- 55:50SPEAKER_00: You get to keep so many players on your practice squad now.
- 55:53SPEAKER_00: I believe it's 17 in total.
- 55:55SPEAKER_00: So uh with that pathway player, I believe I believe.
- 55:59SPEAKER_00: So um I don't know if it's necessarily a desperate situation to up that number to 55.
- 56:06SPEAKER_00: I mean, close to 70 players that you have the option to elevate on game days is quite enough in my mind.
- 56:16SPEAKER_00: And then obviously you have the free agent pool, this, that, and the other thing.
- 56:20SPEAKER_00: So uh you make them cut down from 90.
- 56:23SPEAKER_00: I don't know how much higher than around 70 you want to go, as we have Andy chiming in again.
- 56:30SPEAKER_00: So far, he's only been wrong about can I walk her on his spreadsheet?
- 56:34SPEAKER_00: And let's take a look at my initial 53 man roster here.
- 56:40SPEAKER_00: If I can find it, I'm not sure if I have it available uh to show everybody, but I know that I can pull it up on my trusty note sheet here.
- 56:58SPEAKER_00: So let's go to my initial 53 man roster on the defense and offensive side of the ball, both of those here.
- 57:09SPEAKER_00: And we'll see what I got wrong.
- 57:11SPEAKER_00: We'll see what I got right, what I got wrong, what I should be hammered about.
- 57:15SPEAKER_00: Sound off in the comments if you think I'm a moron for thinking a few of these things.
- 57:19SPEAKER_00: All right, so the quarterback position, I predicted the Bills to keep two quarterbacks, Josh Allen, Kyle Allen, and Cut Shane Buschel.
- 57:26SPEAKER_00: And it seems like I'm going to be correct on that.
- 57:30SPEAKER_00: Also, I predicted James Cook, Ty Johnson, Ray Davis, and also fullback Ben Van Sumeran at the fullback position.
- 57:39SPEAKER_00: So not sure if the Bills will keep a fullback, but if they do, I think they're going to keep Ben Van Sumeran.
- 57:50SPEAKER_00: I obviously they already released Jackson Acker, so uh Acre, I should say.
- 57:54SPEAKER_00: So Van Sumeran, the only fullback left on the roster.
- 57:57SPEAKER_00: And we mentioned Kenai Walker cut at the cornerback position.
- 58:02SPEAKER_00: As far as that position is concerned, I had Christian Benford, Maxwell Harrison, Davison Igbenosen, D.
- 58:11SPEAKER_00: Alford, Jordan Hancock, and Torreano Pride Jr.
- 58:14SPEAKER_00: on my initial 53-man roster.
- 58:17SPEAKER_00: And then after training camp and the preseason, I went to uh Canai Walker as I changed my mind because of his performance, of course, which was so impressive.
- 58:34SPEAKER_00: So with Walker being cut, I mentioned how the Bills might want to sign Tradavius White as a free agent.
- 58:44SPEAKER_00: Beanie Bishop, the former Steelers cornerback, I believe, the Bears just waived him.
- 58:49SPEAKER_00: He had two interceptions, three pass deflections in the preseason.
- 58:53SPEAKER_00: Oh, I I see, waived with an injury designation.
- 58:56SPEAKER_00: So maybe not an option there.
- 58:58SPEAKER_00: But that was who I had at the cornerback position.
- 59:01SPEAKER_00: I was obviously wrong on Can I Walker, and obviously wrong on Torreano Pride to begin the preseason at training camp.
- 59:09SPEAKER_00: So uh 0 for 2 for me as far as that position was concerned.
- 59:16SPEAKER_00: But I think everybody was surprised by Walker, to be quite honest with you.
- 59:20SPEAKER_00: I don't think many expected that.
- 59:23SPEAKER_00: I think he was very, very impressive.
- 59:25SPEAKER_00: And to see him cut, I think that worries some Bills fans that the Bills might not be able to get him back when the time comes to pursue that avenue.
- 59:36SPEAKER_00: At wide receiver, I had DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, Keon Coleman, Skylar Bell, and Trent Shurfield.
- 59:45SPEAKER_00: And all those players are still options as far as the reports and official cuts have been released.
- 59:53SPEAKER_00: I had Tyrell Shaver starting the season on the pup list, and then I had the Bills cutting Miko Hardman Jr., Jamory Macklin, Dante Pettis, Steven Gosnell, Max Tomzek, and Quentin Skinner.
- 1:00:03SPEAKER_00: I think Gosnell was one that I didn't mention in my group of players that was cut, so add him to the list as well.
- 1:00:12SPEAKER_00: At tight end, my 53-man roster projection, I had Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Jackson Hawes at that position.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_00: And I think that's really a no-brainer.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_00: We've already discussed Shane Zalstra has been released by the team.
- 1:00:25SPEAKER_00: Kaleki Latu, I expect to be released as well, although I think he'll be brought back to the practice squad as he was last season.
- 1:00:34SPEAKER_00: At offensive line, Deion Dawkins, Alec Anderson, Connor McGovern, Osiris Torrance, Spencer Brown, the team's starting five up front.
- 1:00:42SPEAKER_00: But Lloyd Cushenberry, Austin Corbett, and Tylon Grable have also made my 53-man roster projection while on injured reserve, Jude Bowry and Cut.
- 1:00:54SPEAKER_00: I had Cedric Van Prangranger, who has been traded.
- 1:00:57SPEAKER_00: I don't project trades in my 53-man roster projection, but I may have if I had considered that.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_00: Although I thought he was injured the past few days, so I didn't think that that really was going to allow for him to be traded.
- 1:01:09SPEAKER_00: But Chase Lunt, Demetrius Weatherspoon, Armage Reed Adams, Bruno Fina, Nick Broker, and Sincere Hainsworth, also members of my cut list on my 53-man roster projection when it came to the Bills offensive line.
- 1:01:25SPEAKER_00: On the defensive line, Ed Oliver, Deion Walker, the top two players for the Bills up front.
- 1:01:30SPEAKER_00: Also, TJ Sanders, Landon Jackson, Zane Durant, I think, no brainers to make this team.
- 1:01:36SPEAKER_00: TJ Sanders and Landon Jackson were both drafted last year.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_00: And Zane Durant, obviously a pick of the Bills in the 2026 NFL draft.
- 1:01:51SPEAKER_00: Durant is hurt.
- 1:01:53SPEAKER_00: He could be an IR candidate along with Tyrell Shaver.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_00: So something to keep an eye on there.
- 1:01:59SPEAKER_00: That could free up a potential roster spot.
- 1:02:01SPEAKER_00: You also have Federian Mathis in the conversation, but he's suspended for the first three games of the season.
- 1:02:07SPEAKER_00: So uh that will likely allow Greg Gaines to be the backup nose tackle while he is suspended.
- 1:02:13SPEAKER_00: And then my cuts, I have Dwayne Carter, Zion Logue, and Travis Clayton, the final two of that list have also already, excuse me, reportedly been cut.
- 1:02:32SPEAKER_00: That's funny.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_00: Uh anyway.
- 1:02:37SPEAKER_00: On at the edge rudger rusher position, Bradley Chubb, Greg Rousseau, TJ Parker, Michael Hoyt, Javon Solomon.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_00: And I did keep Mike Dana on my 53-man roster projection.
- 1:02:49SPEAKER_00: But you know what?
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_00: The more I think about it, I think he's gonna be on his way out the door here, along with Andre Jones Jr.
- 1:02:55SPEAKER_00: and then Cade Denhoff, who's already been officially released by the Bills.
- 1:03:00SPEAKER_00: I think, well, a few days ago I projected Dana to stick around as that sixth edge edge rusher.
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_00: I'm not so sure the Bills are gonna keep six edge rushers.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_00: Maybe they keep an extra offensive lineman and go against my projection here.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_00: Maybe they keep an extra uh safety.
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_00: Maybe they keep an extra cornerback.
- 1:03:20SPEAKER_00: I'm just not sure what they do here.
- 1:03:23SPEAKER_00: Uh, but I'm gonna change my tune on Dana.
- 1:03:26SPEAKER_00: I don't think he sticks around.
- 1:03:28SPEAKER_00: Maybe he does in the short term, but in the long term, I don't think we'll see Dana long for Buffalo here as they decide on their initial 53-man roster.
- 1:03:39SPEAKER_00: And then at linebacker, I had Terrell Bernard, Dorian Williams, Caleb E.
- 1:03:43SPEAKER_00: Larms or and Joanne Dreessen.
- 1:03:45SPEAKER_00: I did have them cutting, Keontae Jenkins, Jimmy Charlo, Theron Gaines, and Otis Reese, the fourth.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_00: The final two of those have been released officially by the team, announced on Saturday, while Jenkins reportedly released, and I expect Charlo to be among the rest of the players the team releases here shortly.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_00: I would expect, anyway, uh at the linebacker position.
- 1:04:09SPEAKER_00: Jenkins, I think, is a primary practice squad focus for the team.
- 1:04:15SPEAKER_00: It'll be interesting to see if they're able to get him back.
- 1:04:18SPEAKER_00: I think he might attract some attention from other teams, but at the same time, linebacker not necessarily the most highly sought-after position.
- 1:04:28SPEAKER_00: So we'll have to see what the Bills do there.
- 1:04:34SPEAKER_00: All right, moving to the cornerback position, we already discussed that.
- 1:04:38SPEAKER_00: Uh, I was wrong on Kennai Walker.
- 1:04:41SPEAKER_00: I was right on Torreano Pride, Jordan Dunbar, DJ Miller.
- 1:04:46SPEAKER_00: We haven't heard anything about Takori Couch or Anthony Kendall, but I have the Bills cutting bait on both of those players as well.
- 1:04:53SPEAKER_00: Uh, Jordan Hancock, a surprising riser here this offseason, really solidifying that backup nickel cornerback job.
- 1:05:00SPEAKER_00: And I think that gives the Bills comfort in potentially elevating D.
- 1:05:04SPEAKER_00: Alford to boundary cornerback if they're forced to do so due to injury down the stretch of the season.
- 1:05:10SPEAKER_00: I think that may be why you saw them also comfortable in cutting bait on Walker this offseason.
- 1:05:16SPEAKER_00: Just Alford has that versatility to go from nickel corner to outside corner.
- 1:05:23SPEAKER_00: So with that comfortability and with Hancock really proving that he could be effective at nickel cornerback, I think that made the Bills a little bit more inclined to move off of Walker and risk getting him back on the practice squad as well.
- 1:05:38SPEAKER_00: So I didn't really mention that when I mentioned Tradavius White earlier, but I'm sure that was a consideration of the team.
- 1:05:46SPEAKER_00: As well, finally at the safety position, or I got to do special teams still, but safety, Cole Bishop, CJ Gardner Johnson, Damar Hamlin, Jalen Kilgore, and Sam Franklin Jr.
- 1:05:59SPEAKER_00: None of those.
- 1:06:00SPEAKER_00: Players have been reportedly released or officially released by the team.
- 1:06:04SPEAKER_00: So all of those still possibly on the 53-man roster.
- 1:06:08SPEAKER_00: I had Gino Stone and Wante Owens being cut.
- 1:06:12SPEAKER_00: Stone was reportedly cut.
- 1:06:14SPEAKER_00: Wanted Owens, I haven't seen a report about that, but I think he's a really long shot to make the team.
- 1:06:22SPEAKER_00: Finally, special teams.
- 1:06:23SPEAKER_00: Keep Tyler Bass, Tommy Doman Jr., and Reed Ferguson.
- 1:06:27SPEAKER_00: That's a no-brainer after it was reported that Mitch Wisnowski will be cut by the Bills here today.
- 1:06:37SPEAKER_00: Another note on a former Bills player elsewhere in the league.
- 1:06:41SPEAKER_00: Elijah Moore has made the Eagles 53-man roster.
- 1:06:45SPEAKER_00: He also made the Bills 53-man roster last year, was eventually released by the team, but obviously he lands on his feet there.
- 1:06:54SPEAKER_00: Maybe I missed Wanda Owens on the Bills' official cut list.
- 1:07:01SPEAKER_00: Maybe I listed him and just forgot about it.
- 1:07:03SPEAKER_00: But either way, Andy says here he was on their official cut list.
- 1:07:09SPEAKER_00: All right, but let's pull up the depth chart here.
- 1:07:12SPEAKER_00: Some of these players have been cut already.
- 1:07:14SPEAKER_00: This is the defensive depth chart and what the Bills are likely looking at here to start the season.
- 1:07:26SPEAKER_00: As it, in my opinion, is an improved group.
- 1:07:29SPEAKER_00: What I'm most concerned with, concerned with, excuse me, is that linebacker position and the depth at cornerback.
- 1:07:37SPEAKER_00: I love Christian Benford.
- 1:07:39SPEAKER_00: I don't love what's behind him.
- 1:07:41SPEAKER_00: I already mentioned earlier that the Bills should keep Maxwell Harrison on a short leash this season.
- 1:07:47SPEAKER_00: Uh put in Davis and Igbenos and give him a run if Harrison falters out of the gate.
- 1:07:52SPEAKER_00: Whereas at the linebacker position, I don't like really anything they have going on there.
- 1:07:56SPEAKER_00: I like the initial hype surrounding Caleb Elarms or, but that kind of wore off his training camp in the preseason, went on, and Terrell Bernard, I have absolutely zero faith in.
- 1:08:08SPEAKER_00: He was banged up last year, banged up the year before, and his perform performance, excuse me, has been lacking as well.
- 1:08:15SPEAKER_00: So uh when you ask me about the linebacker position, Dorian Williams, he was the leading tackler a couple of years ago, but he hasn't been all that strong for the Bills and somebody who you have a boatload of confidence in and is a surefire option at in a starting role.
- 1:08:32SPEAKER_00: So I'm not satisfied with what they have at linebacker, not satisfied with what they have at cornerback.
- 1:08:39SPEAKER_00: We'll see if they add anything after they cut a few players here later.
- 1:08:45SPEAKER_00: At defensive line, Ed Oliver needs to stay healthy this year.
- 1:08:49SPEAKER_00: I really feel terrible about the loss of his son that the Bills were forced to announce, announce, excuse me, and it's really a tragic situation that he's dealing with, and he's also dealing with an injury that's kept him off the field and kept him away from the team at times as well.
- 1:09:08SPEAKER_00: But Oliver has to stay healthy.
- 1:09:10SPEAKER_00: They have so many question marks up front.
- 1:09:12SPEAKER_00: I know that Deion Walker is expected to take this huge leap based on his preseason performance, and I loved it as well.
- 1:09:19SPEAKER_00: But we need to see Ed Oliver anchor this defensive line, and if he's not able to, I'm kind of worried about what to see, what we'll see, excuse me, out of this group in the trenches this year.
- 1:09:32SPEAKER_00: But as far as the pass rushing group, I think it's gonna be much improved.
- 1:09:37SPEAKER_00: I I like Bradley Chubb.
- 1:09:38SPEAKER_00: I don't love him.
- 1:09:39SPEAKER_00: I don't think he's some unbelievable stalwart for the Bills, but he's better than Joey Bosa, and he's gonna match with Greg Rousseau and form a much stronger one-two punch than Buffalo had a year ago.
- 1:09:53SPEAKER_00: And then you talk about TJ Parker.
- 1:09:54SPEAKER_00: I've really liked what I've seen from him.
- 1:09:56SPEAKER_00: And if Michael Hoyt can stay healthy, that's a solid group of four there that the Bills probably haven't had quite to that level the past many years.
- 1:10:05SPEAKER_00: So I really like Chubb, really like Rousseau what he could do with Chubb.
- 1:10:11SPEAKER_00: I'm not so sure of his incredible ceiling, but TJ Parker, I'm high on after not liking that draft pick initially.
- 1:10:18SPEAKER_00: And then also Michael Hoyt, he showed what he could do last year before being injured.
- 1:10:25SPEAKER_00: So really like what they have at the edge rusher, edge rusher position.
- 1:10:30SPEAKER_00: Uh, and then at safety, CJ Gardner Johnson before he went out.
- 1:10:34SPEAKER_00: I was impressed with his performance during training camp.
- 1:10:36SPEAKER_00: So I think they could take a step forward there as well with Cole Bishop coming back in his third season.
- 1:10:42SPEAKER_00: I think he can continue to show progression.
- 1:10:44SPEAKER_00: Now, if one of those two get hurt, Jalen Kilgore, I'm not sure, is ready to fill in right away.
- 1:10:51SPEAKER_00: And I don't think they're going to go to him right away.
- 1:10:53SPEAKER_00: They're going to go to Damar Hamlin.
- 1:10:55SPEAKER_00: He's been the third player.
- 1:10:56SPEAKER_00: He's not even on this depth chart that I pulled off.
- 1:11:00SPEAKER_00: Oh, yeah, there he is.
- 1:11:01SPEAKER_00: He's oh, they have uh CJ Gardner Johnson at nickel cornerback here.
- 1:11:07SPEAKER_00: That's that's not correct.
- 1:11:10SPEAKER_00: But anyway, uh you might you might see him play a little nickel cornerback this year.
- 1:11:16SPEAKER_00: But Damar Hamlin is the third safety on this team.
- 1:11:19SPEAKER_00: Kilgore might be a healthy scratch sometimes, as I've mentioned before.
- 1:11:24SPEAKER_00: So though that's really my thoughts on the defensive side of the ball.
- 1:11:29SPEAKER_00: And I think the Bills could be much improved on defense.
- 1:11:32SPEAKER_00: It still remains to be seen under Jim Leonard.
- 1:11:35SPEAKER_00: He's never been a defensive coordinator at the NFL level.
- 1:11:39SPEAKER_00: And although a lot of people, including myself, were ready to see Sean McDormitt be moved on from, I'm not sold quite yet that Jim Leonard is going to come in here and all of a sudden be Buddy Ryan and take the Bills defense to this elite level.
- 1:12:00SPEAKER_00: I think he's going to have to prove it, much like a lot of the personnel will when the real bullets start flying during the regular season.
- 1:12:08SPEAKER_00: All right, now let's take a look on the offensive side of the ball at the depth chart.
- 1:12:13SPEAKER_00: Obviously, you have Josh Allen.
- 1:12:15SPEAKER_00: Kyle Allen has won the backup quarterback job with Shane Buchell reportedly being cut.
- 1:12:21SPEAKER_00: And then the wide receiver position.
- 1:12:23SPEAKER_00: I'm really impressed with the Bills' wide receiver position this offseason.
- 1:12:26SPEAKER_00: I think that could be their most improved position this year.
- 1:12:30SPEAKER_00: You obviously have DJ Moore, who they trade the second round pick for, but then Skylar Bell, who we'll get to later, really impressed during the preseason game.
- 1:12:41SPEAKER_00: And you know what?
- 1:12:42SPEAKER_00: We'll get to Skylar Bell right now.
- 1:12:44SPEAKER_00: I think Skylar Bell.
- 1:12:48SPEAKER_00: Yeah, one moment here is something coming up.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_00: No.
- 1:12:53SPEAKER_00: I think Skylar Bell, with what he showed during the Bills' final preseason game, he might not start ahead of the pecking order than Keon Coleman or Joshua Palmer in the early going this season.
- 1:13:04SPEAKER_00: But as time goes on, I think he works his way ahead of Keon Coleman and potentially could work his way ahead of both of those players by late in the season.
- 1:13:14SPEAKER_00: Bell showed glimpses of being a Stefan Diggs type of player, a lot of the same body movements and had people raving about that performance on social media, and rightfully so, taking that 28-yard carry to the house, leading the Bills in both receiving and rushing in that game, seven receptions for 49 yards, along with that touchdown that he had in the running game.
- 1:13:37SPEAKER_00: So dual threat ability.
- 1:13:40SPEAKER_00: And Bell, who I was really high on coming out of the draft, might not start his career as somebody thrust into a key role in the Bills passing game, but he's shown, albeit in a limited stint on the field, that he very well could be capable of a significant job on offense sooner rather than later.
- 1:14:00SPEAKER_00: So when you're talking about the Bill's wide receiver position, I mean DJ Moore, Skylar Bell, two impressive additions.
- 1:14:07SPEAKER_00: And then Trent, I really like what I've seen from Trent Shurfield this offseason.
- 1:14:11SPEAKER_00: I think he's been superb in the opportunities he's been given in the receiving game.
- 1:14:17SPEAKER_00: And obviously, you know what he can give you as a special teams contributor.
- 1:14:22SPEAKER_00: And I think he's bulked up his body a little bit to maybe help out a little bit more in tackling in that special teams role.
- 1:14:30SPEAKER_00: So uh really impressed with the Bills' wide receiver position.
- 1:14:34SPEAKER_00: You have Khalil Shakir coming back, you know what you're going to get from him and perhaps more with that down thread ability that he's displayed throughout training camp and the preseason.
- 1:14:43SPEAKER_00: And then, of course, Joshua Palmer, who's impressed many throughout the course of the past few weeks and months.
- 1:14:49SPEAKER_00: So the Bills could go from one of the worst wide receiving cores in the NFL to potentially one of the better wide receiving cores, not only in the NFC, AFC, excuse me, but in both the AFC and NFC.
- 1:15:02SPEAKER_00: I think that's a real possibility.
- 1:15:04SPEAKER_00: It really hinges on Moore's reaching his ceiling and whether he can be that 1,000 plus yard receiver, come up with 80 to 100 receptions, be that security blanket for Josh Allen.
- 1:15:18SPEAKER_00: But what we've seen from him during this preseason in training camp, I think he's going to be capable of that.
- 1:15:24SPEAKER_00: So really, really impressed what I've seen from the Bills wide receivers and interested to see what they continue to do as the season gets started here in a few weeks against the Houston Texans in week one.
- 1:15:37SPEAKER_00: We talked about the tight end position, not much to discuss.
- 1:15:41SPEAKER_00: Uh Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Jackson Hawes.
- 1:15:44SPEAKER_00: I saw Jackson Hawes at 9-11 Tavern yesterday.
- 1:15:48SPEAKER_00: So obviously great taste there.
- 1:15:50SPEAKER_00: I love that from Jackson Hawes.
- 1:15:52SPEAKER_00: I'm a 9-11 Tavern guy over Barbill or any of these other Buffalo places.
- 1:15:58SPEAKER_00: They have the best wings.
- 1:15:59SPEAKER_00: That hot sauce is absolutely incredible.
- 1:16:02SPEAKER_00: And their wings are always the perfect amount of crisp, nice size, and just a phenomenal experience at 9-11 Tavern every time you go.
- 1:16:11SPEAKER_00: A lot of times you have to wait a while for the food, but if you bring a good companion with you, somebody to talk with, or if you're just trying to sit there in your own thoughts as I do sometimes, it's a very enjoyable experience at 9-11 Tavern.
- 1:16:25SPEAKER_00: And it was good to see Jackson Hawes partaking in the experience as well.
- 1:16:28SPEAKER_00: But Dalton Kincaid, I think, is in for a really big year if he can stay healthy.
- 1:16:33SPEAKER_00: He was so impressive during preseason and training camp, especially as time wore on, that there was talk that he may have to endure some load management this year, but he proved this offseason that he was healthy.
- 1:16:48SPEAKER_00: And I think the Bills can just go full bore with him once the regular season begins here in a couple of weeks.
- 1:16:55SPEAKER_00: We also already discussed the offensive line.
- 1:16:59SPEAKER_00: I think there's some depth to be worked out there.
- 1:17:01SPEAKER_00: Uh Tylon Grable might not be the swing tackle, but I think as it stands right now, he's probably their best candidate as far as those remaining on the roster after the reported and official cuts were made.
- 1:17:15SPEAKER_00: So I think Grable right now is slotted to be that swing tackle.
- 1:17:18SPEAKER_00: Corbett, your first man off the bench when it comes to the guard position.
- 1:17:22SPEAKER_00: And then Lloyd Cushionberry will be the backup for Connor McGovern at the center position, who I'm not so sure that Connor McGovern is set to play in week one.
- 1:17:33SPEAKER_00: That hamstring injury was significant.
- 1:17:35SPEAKER_00: And with Cushenberry not playing, I believe it was just the final preseason game, but it may have been the final two preseason games.
- 1:17:42SPEAKER_00: I think the Bills could be trying to protect him because they don't want to lose their top two options at the center position.
- 1:17:49SPEAKER_00: I'm a little bit worried about Conor McGovern.
- 1:17:51SPEAKER_00: He continues to claim he's going to do whatever he can to be ready for week one, but whether or not that turns out to be the case, I think remains up in the air and is a little bit uncertain at this point, quite frankly.
- 1:18:03SPEAKER_00: So interested to see how that plays out as we continue to go here.
- 1:18:10SPEAKER_00: But once again, please, everybody, take a moment.

- 1:20:31SPEAKER_00: All right, the Buffalo Bills have announced their final cuts here on Sunday, August 30th.
- 1:20:43SPEAKER_00: Their final cuts and final roster moves.
- 1:20:46SPEAKER_00: They have placed Tyrell Shavers on the pup list, Zane Durant on injured reserve, Federian Mathis is suspended.
- 1:20:55SPEAKER_00: They have also released 21 players officially: Nick Broker, Shane Buchel, Jimmy Charlotte, Travis Clayton, Takori Couch, Frank Gore Jr., Steven Gosnell, Keontae Jenkins, Andre Jones Jr., Anthony Kendall, Tackle Chase Lunt, Jamori Macklin, Torreano Pride Jr., Trent Shurfield, Geno Stone, Max Tomzak, Ben Van Sumeran, Kenneth Walker, Demetrius Weatherspoon, Ian Wheeler, and Mitch Wischnowski.
- 1:21:29SPEAKER_00: That joins the list of 13 players that the Bills had already cut bait on.
- 1:21:35SPEAKER_00: Kate Denoff, Jordan Dunbar, Bruno Fina, Zion Log, DJ Miller, Nicole Hardman Jr., Terran Gaines, Sincere Hainsworth, Wanda Owens, Dante Pettis, Otis Reese, Quentin Skinner, Shane Zalstra, and the traded Cedric Van Brangranger.
- 1:21:57SPEAKER_00: So let me repeat wide receiver, Tyrell Shavers to the pup list.
- 1:22:01SPEAKER_00: Zane Durant, a defensive lineman, placed on injured reserve.
- 1:22:05SPEAKER_00: Defensive lineman Federion Mathis placed on the suspended list.
- 1:22:10SPEAKER_00: Guard Nick Broker released.
- 1:22:13SPEAKER_00: Also released quarterback Shane Buchel.
- 1:22:16SPEAKER_00: Linebacker Jimmy Charlo.
- 1:22:18SPEAKER_00: Defensive lineman Travis Clayton.
- 1:22:20SPEAKER_00: Defensive back to Corey Couch.
- 1:22:22SPEAKER_00: Running back Frank Gore Jr.
- 1:22:24SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver Steven Gosnell.
- 1:22:26SPEAKER_00: Linebacker Keonta Jenkins.
- 1:22:28SPEAKER_00: Linebacker Andre Jones Jr.
- 1:22:30SPEAKER_00: More of a pass rusher, I should say.
- 1:22:32SPEAKER_00: Edge rusher.
- 1:22:33SPEAKER_00: Cornerback, Anthony Kendall.
- 1:22:35SPEAKER_00: Tackle, Chase Lund.
- 1:22:36SPEAKER_00: Offensive tackle, that is.
- 1:22:38SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, Jamore Macklin.
- 1:22:40SPEAKER_00: Cornerback, Torreano Pride Jr.
- 1:22:42SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, Trent Schurfield.
- 1:22:45SPEAKER_00: Safety, Gino Stone.
- 1:22:47SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, Max Tomzak.
- 1:22:48SPEAKER_00: Fullback, Ben Bansumeran.
- 1:22:50SPEAKER_00: Cornerback, Kanaye Walker.
- 1:22:52SPEAKER_00: Offensive guard, Demetrius Weatherspoon, running back, Ian Wheeler, punter, Mitch Wischnowski.
- 1:22:59SPEAKER_00: Linebacker Cade Denhoff.
- 1:23:01SPEAKER_00: Cornerback Jordan Dunbar.
- 1:23:02SPEAKER_00: Offensive lineman, Bruno Fina.
- 1:23:05SPEAKER_00: Defensive tackle, Zion Log.
- 1:23:07SPEAKER_00: Cornerback, DJ Miller.
- 1:23:08SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, Micole Hardman Jr.
- 1:23:11SPEAKER_00: Linebacker, Daron Gaines.
- 1:23:13SPEAKER_00: Center, Sincere Hainsworth.
- 1:23:15SPEAKER_00: Safety, Wanda Owens.
- 1:23:17SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, Dante Pettis.
- 1:23:19SPEAKER_00: Linebacker, Otis Reese, the fourth.
- 1:23:21SPEAKER_00: Wide receiver, Quentin Skinner.
- 1:23:23SPEAKER_00: Tight end Shane Zelstra.
- 1:23:26SPEAKER_00: And traded was Cedric Van Prangranger.
- 1:23:31SPEAKER_00: All right, right off the top, a few surprises here.
- 1:23:35SPEAKER_00: You have Dwayne Carter and Greg Gaines each making the 53-man roster.
- 1:23:42SPEAKER_00: That's likely a result of Zayn Durant being placed on injured reserve.
- 1:23:50SPEAKER_00: So that allowed the Bills another option to be placed on the roster.
- 1:23:57SPEAKER_00: I think otherwise you would have seen either Carter or Gaines cut.
- 1:24:01SPEAKER_00: And it's interesting that Jude Bowery has not been placed on IR, so he makes the roster.
- 1:24:08SPEAKER_00: So we have Greg Gaines and Dwayne Carter both on the roster due to Zane Durant being placed on IR.
- 1:24:24SPEAKER_00: Otherwise, one of Gaines or Carter would have been released.
- 1:24:32SPEAKER_00: Also interesting that Trent Shurfield has been cut.
- 1:24:41SPEAKER_00: He might be an option for the practice squad.
- 1:24:49SPEAKER_00: No Jude Bowery to IR.
- 1:24:56SPEAKER_00: And I obviously can I walk release has been made official.
- 1:25:05SPEAKER_00: Alright.
- 1:25:06SPEAKER_00: So there you have it, those are the Bills cuts.
- 1:25:12SPEAKER_00: As far as the initial fifty-three man roster is concerned.
- 1:25:25SPEAKER_00: As I continue to tweet out here.
- 1:25:39SPEAKER_00: Alright, so let me just get through this.
- 1:25:48SPEAKER_00: Alright, so let's see what all of you have to say here.
- 1:25:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, Jamori Macklin has been cut.
- 1:25:58SPEAKER_00: That 71-yard touchdown that he had during the preseason, not enough for him to stick around.
- 1:26:04SPEAKER_00: I think we might see him back on the practice squad here.
- 1:26:07SPEAKER_00: I think that really wouldn't be a shock by any sense of the imagination.
- 1:26:18SPEAKER_00: And also Ben Van Sumeran not making the roster.
- 1:26:25SPEAKER_00: So the Bills will not keep a fullback.
- 1:26:28SPEAKER_00: I didn't include that in my tweet that I just posted.
- 1:26:30SPEAKER_00: So there was a lot of people wondering if the Bills were going to keep a fullback, and they won't do so.
- 1:26:36SPEAKER_00: It doesn't appear anyway, with Ben Van Sumeran being cut by the Bills.
- 1:26:41SPEAKER_00: He was potentially going to replace Reggie Gilliam, who was signed by the New England Patriots this offseason, but not the case as he has been released by the Bills.
- 1:26:53SPEAKER_00: And some other takeaways here kept Carter shocked.
- 1:27:00SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I'm pretty surprised too.
- 1:27:02SPEAKER_00: But then again, with the Bills deciding to place Zane Durant on the injured reserve, it's it's not as surprising.
- 1:27:18SPEAKER_00: So initially, yes, it at face value, I should say, it is at face value, it is a bit surprising that the Bills are keeping Dwayne Carter.
- 1:27:27SPEAKER_00: But with Zane Durant being placed on the injured reserve, as I mentioned before, that opens the extra roster spot and allows them to keep both Carter and Gaines.
- 1:27:36SPEAKER_00: I think if Durant were healthy enough to start the season, I don't think you'd see Carter on the initial 53 man roster.
- 1:27:43SPEAKER_00: A few other surprises on the roster.
- 1:27:45SPEAKER_00: Tight end Kalecki Latu kept around, maybe more of a special teams role for him this season.
- 1:27:51SPEAKER_00: Also, Armaj Reed Adams, the seventh round pick, makes the roster.
- 1:27:56SPEAKER_00: Defensive lineman, or excuse me, all uh Linebacker Mike Dana, pass rusher, I should say, also makes the 53.
- 1:28:03SPEAKER_00: I was mentioning him as a roster bubble candidate.
- 1:28:06SPEAKER_00: He makes it along with Javon Solomon.
- 1:28:11SPEAKER_00: So a few more surprises there.
- 1:28:16SPEAKER_00: And yeah, as Andy mentioned, Latu makes the 53.
- 1:28:20SPEAKER_00: They really did keep four tight ends.
- 1:28:22SPEAKER_00: I didn't think there was any question who the Bills would keep at tight end, just the three, Kincaid, Hawes, and Knox, but maybe the Bills thought there was some danger in losing Latu if they cut bait on him right now.
- 1:28:40SPEAKER_00: He's he's been impressive when he's been on the field, albeit against backups the past few years.
- 1:28:44SPEAKER_00: And maybe they think he can compete on special teams and fulfill some of what Reggie Gilliam did.
- 1:28:50SPEAKER_00: They're moving on from Van Sumeran, so maybe he's kind of the roster spot over Van Sumeran at this point.
- 1:28:57SPEAKER_00: That would be the falling out from Van Sumeran being cut.
- 1:29:03SPEAKER_00: You keep those four tight ends, and maybe you see a little bit of a hybrid role from Jackson Hawes as well at the fullback possession position position with Reggie Gilliam moving on this offseason.
- 1:29:16SPEAKER_00: So that could kind of be the reading the tea leaves there.
- 1:29:23SPEAKER_00: And IR means out at least the first four games.
- 1:29:26SPEAKER_00: Correct.
- 1:29:27SPEAKER_00: Yes, that and the pup list forced to miss.
- 1:29:31SPEAKER_00: Actually, let's see.
- 1:29:32SPEAKER_00: IR to start the season.
- 1:29:33SPEAKER_00: I I believe so.
- 1:29:35SPEAKER_00: IR to start season NFL.
- 1:29:39SPEAKER_00: If you're placed on the IR, let's see.
- 1:29:47SPEAKER_00: Yeah, but yeah, at least the first four games.
- 1:29:50SPEAKER_00: Yep.
- 1:29:51SPEAKER_00: You missed the first four games of the season with IR and the pup list.
- 1:29:56SPEAKER_00: So you won't see Tyrell Shavers.
- 1:29:59SPEAKER_00: You won't see Zane Durant for at least the first four games.
- 1:30:04SPEAKER_00: And Zayn Durant was never going to be a major part of the Bill's defensive line rotation, but he had a chance to be kind of on the edge of that conversation.
- 1:30:14SPEAKER_00: He was impressive at times throughout training camp, showed some flashes, burst through into the backfield with penetration, and I believe a couple of would be would-be sacks as well.
- 1:30:22SPEAKER_00: So Durant was one of many impressive players throughout this summer, and starting on IR, not an ideal start to his career, but it does allow the Bills to keep Carter and Gaines on the roster as I've previously mentioned.
- 1:30:46SPEAKER_00: Alright, so more here.
- 1:30:48SPEAKER_00: Yes, no fullback.
- 1:30:52SPEAKER_00: So it looks like on the Bills' website they only have 52 on the roster.
- 1:30:55SPEAKER_00: That could mean that they might sign somebody else.
- 1:30:58SPEAKER_00: If that is indeed the case, I haven't had the opportunity to count.
- 1:31:02SPEAKER_00: But if they do have an open spot, it would not shock me if they do indeed go out and add somebody, particularly at the cornerback position, as we've mentioned.
- 1:31:16SPEAKER_00: Latu hasn't done anything more than anyone else to earn his spot.
- 1:31:20SPEAKER_00: Sean says, with Gore and Wheeler gone, does that mean Ray Davis won't be a punt returner?
- 1:31:29SPEAKER_00: I don't think they've decided that yet.
- 1:31:31SPEAKER_00: Ty Johnson omitted from it.
- 1:31:33SPEAKER_00: Maybe they are deciding for IR or not.
- 1:31:36SPEAKER_00: Yeah, they do have one other player that they could place on IR to start the season.
- 1:31:43SPEAKER_00: And then I believe it's two.
- 1:31:55SPEAKER_00: And after that.
- 1:31:57SPEAKER_00: Yeah, two players on IR with a designated to return.
- 1:32:01SPEAKER_00: After that, anybody on IR would be forced to miss the whole season.
- 1:32:07SPEAKER_00: So at least you have two that you can place on IR right now to start the season.
- 1:32:13SPEAKER_00: Anybody beyond that, before the start of the season, would be forced to miss the entire campaign, but throughout the course of the regular season, you can place people on IR with designation to return.
- 1:32:24SPEAKER_00: So I'm not exactly an expert on the league rules quite yet, but uh I do know a few of them.
- 1:32:31SPEAKER_00: And Google and other research tools are always beneficial in that regard.
- 1:32:38SPEAKER_00: So the Bills roster as of right now on the offensive side of the ball and special teams after the cuts have been announced.
- 1:32:45SPEAKER_00: Josh Allen and Kyle Allen at quarterback, James Cook, Ray Davis, and Ty Johnson at running back.
- 1:32:52SPEAKER_00: At tight end, you have Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Jackson Hawes, and Kalecki Latu.
- 1:32:57SPEAKER_00: At wide receiver, DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, Keon Coleman, and Skylar Bell.
- 1:33:03SPEAKER_00: Only five receivers for the Buffalo Bills.
- 1:33:06SPEAKER_00: On the offensive line, Deion Dawkins, Jude Bowery, Joshua Palmer, Keon Coleman, Skylar, or excuse me, on the offensive line, Deion Dawkins, Jude Bowery, Alec Anderson, Austin Corbett, Connor McGovern, Lloyd Cushenberry, Osiris Torrance, Armage Reed Adams, Spencer Brown, and Tyon Grable.
- 1:33:27SPEAKER_00: Kicker, Tyler Bass, Punter, Tommy Doman Jr., and long snapper Reed Ferguson.
- 1:33:34SPEAKER_00: So my takeaways from the offensive side of the ball, I already mentioned one.
- 1:33:39SPEAKER_00: It's interesting to see them keep the four tight ends.
- 1:33:41SPEAKER_00: I think that getting rid of Van Sumeran really led you to do so.
- 1:33:45SPEAKER_00: Shurfield could be a player that the Bills try to get back on their practice squad as far as wide receiver is concerned, and a potential special teams elevation on game days.
- 1:33:56SPEAKER_00: Offensive line, I'm surprised a little bit to see Armaj Reed Adams stick around, but Tylon Grable likely to start the season in that swing tackle role.
- 1:34:05SPEAKER_00: And then on the defensive side of the ball here for the Bills, on the defensive line, you have Ed Oliver, Deion Walker, Dwayne Carter, TJ Sanders, Landon Jackson, Greg Gaines, and then an edge rusher, Bradley Chubb, Greg Rousseau, Michael Hoyt, TJ Parker, Mike Dana, and Javon Solomon.
- 1:34:27SPEAKER_00: At inside linebacker, Terrell Bernard, Dorian Williams, Caleb Elarms Orr, and Jo Andreessen.
- 1:34:33SPEAKER_00: At cornerback, Christian Benford, Maxwell Harrison, Davis and Igbenoson, and then Nickel cornerback, D Alford Jordan Hancock at safety, CJ Gardner Johnson, Damar Hamlin, Cole Bishop, Jalen Kilgore, and Sam Franklin Jr.
- 1:34:49SPEAKER_00: My thoughts on the defensive side of the ball.
- 1:34:52SPEAKER_00: Defensive line, I am still worried about.
- 1:34:55SPEAKER_00: I know that you have an who seems to be a player kind of stepping into his own and Landon Jackson, but I'm just not sold on TJ Sanders.
- 1:35:05SPEAKER_00: I really don't like Dwayne Carter's prospects moving forward, and then Greg Gaines, a veteran presence, but I'm not so sure how much he can offer you at this stage of his career.
- 1:35:15SPEAKER_00: As far as the edge rusher position, I already mentioned how I think it's going to be improved.
- 1:35:19SPEAKER_00: Bradley Chubb, I'm really, really high on, especially what he could do to help elevate Greg Rousseau's game.
- 1:35:25SPEAKER_00: And then TJ Parker has shown flashes in his rookie preseason.
- 1:35:29SPEAKER_00: Michael Hoyt was encouraging last year.
- 1:35:31SPEAKER_00: If he can remain healthy, I think the sky's the limit for him.
- 1:35:35SPEAKER_00: And I was encouraged with Mike Dana, albeit against backup players during the preseason.
- 1:35:40SPEAKER_00: He had a few sacks, and Javon Solomon hasn't shown it in terms of his pass rushing prowess, but a special teams contributor for you there.
- 1:35:49SPEAKER_00: So you're getting some value out of his roster spot at that position.
- 1:35:53SPEAKER_00: At linebacker, really concerned with it.
- 1:35:56SPEAKER_00: You get rid of Keontae Jenkins, you hold on to Joe Andreas and not that that maker breaks the position, but I just don't like what they have as their top three options.
- 1:36:04SPEAKER_00: Terrell Bernard really concerns me.
- 1:36:06SPEAKER_00: Dorian Williams, not a player who I would love to have in a full-time starting role.
- 1:36:10SPEAKER_00: Then Caleb Elarms Or could have a phenomenal future, but I'm not so sure he's ready as a surefire starter either.
- 1:36:18SPEAKER_00: The cornerback position, I've been talking about it today, really concerns me as well.
- 1:36:22SPEAKER_00: Maxwell Harrison, I don't think he's can be trusted as the Bills cornerback, too.
- 1:36:27SPEAKER_00: I think it should be a short leash for him when it comes to him or Davison Igbenosen opposite Christian Benford.
- 1:36:33SPEAKER_00: You don't have any other boundary cornerbacks outside of D.
- 1:36:36SPEAKER_00: Alford, who's versatile on your 53-man roster.
- 1:36:40SPEAKER_00: So if one of those three players goes down, it's going to be D.
- 1:36:43SPEAKER_00: Alford next up in the pecking order, unless the Bills sign somebody over the next few hours, days, weeks before the regular season.
- 1:36:51SPEAKER_00: And then at safety, Gardner Johnson, Damar Hamlin, and Colt Bishop, your top three players there.
- 1:36:58SPEAKER_00: Jalen Kilgore is still learning and waiting in the wings, but I think Damar Hamlin is that number three safety here.
- 1:37:05SPEAKER_00: And I like the upgrade from the safety position last year with Gardner Johnson over Jordan Poyer, but at the same time, Colt Bishop's been a little banged up.
- 1:37:14SPEAKER_00: They haven't been able to develop that rapport with Gardner Johnson also on the mend.
- 1:37:18SPEAKER_00: So a lot left to be seen from that defensive side of the ball.
- 1:37:22SPEAKER_00: But those are my thoughts on the Bills' overall roster.
- 1:37:25SPEAKER_00: I don't think that there were too many surprises, but I will say a few more than I probably had under consideration entering Sunday's action on the league transaction wire.
- 1:37:43SPEAKER_00: So, six edge rushers, four tight ends, three boundary cornerbacks, a little bit of surprise here for the Buffalo Bills deciding their 53-man roster.
- 1:37:54SPEAKER_00: And I think if you ask me a grand scheme question, is the Bills' roster better this season than last season?
- 1:38:02SPEAKER_00: I think it's a firm yes.
- 1:38:05SPEAKER_00: Whether or not that will allow the Bills to go further in the playoffs, whether they'll have a better regular season record remains to be seen.
- 1:38:13SPEAKER_00: I've mentioned many times how I'm not high on the hire of Joe Brady as head coach, and they also have inexperience at the defensive coordinator spot in Jim Leonard as well.
- 1:38:23SPEAKER_00: So a lot left to be decided.
- 1:38:24SPEAKER_00: But personnel-wise, I think when you look at edge rusher with Bradley Chubb, you look at the safety position with CJ Gardner Johnson, those are two additions that bolster two significant areas that this Bill's defense lacked true talent last year.
- 1:38:41SPEAKER_00: So I think you look at those two in and of themselves, and then D.
- 1:38:45SPEAKER_00: Alford, not as much of a significant position at nickel cornerback, but I mentioned the versatility that he offers and what he's shown throughout training camp and preseason.
- 1:38:55SPEAKER_00: I think that's an upgrade over what Tarrant Johnson can offer at this stage of his career.
- 1:39:01SPEAKER_00: On the offensive side of the ball, I mentioned previously the wide receiver position, a huge upgrade over what they had last year.
- 1:39:08SPEAKER_00: DJ Moore, and then what Skylar Bell showed during that preseason game against the Pittsburgh Steelers, leading the Bills in both receiving and rushing.
- 1:39:16SPEAKER_00: I think that's another position where the Bills have taken a significant step forward.
- 1:39:22SPEAKER_00: Now, on the offensive side of the ball, I am worried about that offensive line and how it will look under new offensive line coach Pat Meyer.
- 1:39:28SPEAKER_00: They lose David Edwards, inserting Alec Anderson as the new starter at left guard.
- 1:39:34SPEAKER_00: So a little bit of concern there.
- 1:39:36SPEAKER_00: And then elsewhere at the kicker position with Tyler Bass, inconsistencies throughout training camp in the preseason.
- 1:39:46SPEAKER_00: So it's not all hunky dory when it comes to the Bills roster.
- 1:39:50SPEAKER_00: I don't think they took a massive step forward as a whole from last year's roster to this year's roster.
- 1:39:57SPEAKER_00: A lot left to prove for Brandon Bean and his personnel staff.
- 1:40:01SPEAKER_00: But do I think this roster is better than it was a year ago?
- 1:40:04SPEAKER_00: Yes, I do.
- 1:40:06SPEAKER_00: Entering week one.
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:40:08SPEAKER_00: Well, that's going to do it for the roster talk.
- 1:40:11SPEAKER_00: Let's move on before maybe touching on it again to end the show.
- 1:40:16SPEAKER_00: But there were a few other topics that I did want to get to.
- 1:40:22SPEAKER_00: Uh, I think I got to most of them actually, but obviously we end the show each week with some hate mail.
- 1:40:27SPEAKER_00: And one of the topics that I wanted to touch on was the Bills resotting their new grass field already before week one is even upon us, and really even close to upon us.
- 1:40:41SPEAKER_00: So the field has already been torn up to the level that the Bills already feel necessary that they have to replace that new natural grass surface.
- 1:40:51SPEAKER_00: And this comes after several Bills players voiced their concerns.
- 1:40:54SPEAKER_00: An anonymous player called the grass field ass, according to Tim Graham of The Athletic.
- 1:41:00SPEAKER_00: And then after that, a few other players, including Bradley Chubb, said that there needed to be some work done in order for it to be propped up to an NFL caliber field.
- 1:41:10SPEAKER_00: And it see it is good news that the Bills are doing whatever they can to get it ready.
- 1:41:15SPEAKER_00: But at the same time, the fact that it really hasn't set in and they're already replacing it before week one.
- 1:41:21SPEAKER_00: I've had some experts out there tell me that it's a normal thing for these teams to replace their field throughout the course of the season.
- 1:41:28SPEAKER_00: And I understand that completely.
- 1:41:30SPEAKER_00: The Steelers have done it in the past, other teams have as well, whether it's both artificial surfaces and grass surfaces being replaced.
- 1:41:38SPEAKER_00: But to already do it before week one, I'm not so sure that there's much of a precedent for that.
- 1:41:43SPEAKER_00: I'd have to see the research.
- 1:41:44SPEAKER_00: I haven't had time to do it myself, but I think it's a minor concern and it's an ongoing concern that the Bills are going to have to monitor, especially once you get into the harsh Buffalo winter when the field really starts to deal with moisture and other elements that chew up that field.
- 1:42:02SPEAKER_00: But after I brought that to my followers' attention on X, there were certain fans out there that took exception to it.
- 1:42:10SPEAKER_00: Uh, this from Chris.
- 1:42:11SPEAKER_00: Feels so bad for the media.
- 1:42:13SPEAKER_00: And one thing I pointed out is how the Bills said that there was nothing wrong with the field after Tim Graham initially reported on it in the athletic, Pete Gwelly coming out and tamping down concern as the Bills always do.
- 1:42:25SPEAKER_00: Oh, everything's fine.
- 1:42:27SPEAKER_00: We this was expected.
- 1:42:29SPEAKER_00: And then a few days later, they come out and announce they're replacing the whole field.
- 1:42:34SPEAKER_00: And the Bills have misled us before this offseason with Joe Brady misreporting a few injuries.
- 1:42:40SPEAKER_00: He claimed the Bills hadn't decided on the left guard job.
- 1:42:43SPEAKER_00: And then a few hours later, after a practice, it comes out that they had indeed decided on the left guard job.
- 1:42:50SPEAKER_00: So uh I think you can kind of take everything the Bills say at this point with a grain of salt, just the dishonesty drenched uh filled organization or drenching the organization and really the PR staff just continuing to prove itself inept, just either giving these people bad advice in terms of how to deal with the media or or or what have you.
- 1:43:14SPEAKER_00: But this from Chris quote, feel so bad for the media.
- 1:43:17SPEAKER_00: They never lie to us.
- 1:43:19SPEAKER_00: I hate when others aren't honest to the media, unquote.
- 1:43:21SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Chris is being sarcastic, but what Chris doesn't realize is that teams often lie to their fans much, much more than media lies to fans.
- 1:43:31SPEAKER_00: So taking everything that these franchises say as gospel can really mislead fans, as I mentioned before, and is a questionable attack to take for any fan base.
- 1:43:42SPEAKER_00: You really have to read through the tea leaves and find a combination between what the fan team is putting out there and what media is putting out there and try to find the real truth.
- 1:43:52SPEAKER_00: But this coming from another media hating follower who is impersonating Rex Chapman on X.
- 1:43:59SPEAKER_00: He says, quote, they change the sod all the time, you effing media hacks.
- 1:44:05SPEAKER_00: STFU with your hate, unquote.
- 1:44:08SPEAKER_00: I will not be silenced, Rex.
- 1:44:10SPEAKER_00: And I do not hate.
- 1:44:11SPEAKER_00: I just give my opinions and honesty, which is much, much more than what can be said for the Bills.
- 1:44:19SPEAKER_00: And then there's Tracy, quote, if you are going to be reporting for the Bills, you shouldn't be so nasty about them all the time, unquote.
- 1:44:27SPEAKER_00: Tracy, I like to think I call it pretty much cut and dried down the middle.
- 1:44:31SPEAKER_00: I give the bills kudos when they deserve it.
- 1:44:33SPEAKER_00: I kick them when they deserve it as well.
- 1:44:35SPEAKER_00: And here's the thing, dear.
- 1:44:38SPEAKER_00: I am not reporting for the bills.
- 1:44:40SPEAKER_00: I report and give my opinions on the bills.
- 1:44:44SPEAKER_00: Pretty obvious distinction there, and one that you should probably take notice of moving forward.
- 1:44:52SPEAKER_00: Rakeeb chiming in in the comments on YouTube.
- 1:44:56SPEAKER_00: This is not a championship roster.
- 1:44:59SPEAKER_00: And I firmly agree.
- 1:45:00SPEAKER_00: I answered many fans' questions on Substack yesterday and in their most recent edition of Shout magazine as well.
- 1:45:10SPEAKER_00: One of the questions was, is this the year for the Bills?
- 1:45:13SPEAKER_00: And I don't think so.
- 1:45:14SPEAKER_00: I don't think it's a championship roster, although I do think it's improved from last year.
- 1:45:18SPEAKER_00: I also think that Joe Brady at head coach really dampens my confidence in this team down the stretch of the playoffs.
- 1:45:29SPEAKER_00: I don't think he has what it takes right now to be a championship head coach.
- 1:45:32SPEAKER_00: I liked what I saw from him during the preseason, really appeared poised, but I just think he's too inexperienced, much like John Murphy, the Bills' former play-by-playman, uh, recently wrote, and I just think it could prove disastrous.
- 1:45:49SPEAKER_00: And quite frankly, I think it will prove disastrous for the Bills hiring Joe Brady as their head coach.
- 1:45:59SPEAKER_00: And on the Joe John Murphy note, is it true that the Bills revoked John Murphy's credentials for his critical article on Brady?
- 1:46:07SPEAKER_00: I don't know.
- 1:46:08SPEAKER_00: It was, I think, out there from someone.
- 1:46:10SPEAKER_00: I had somebody text me about it that Murphy was allowed to go to the preseason game, but was not permitted a credential for the regular season.
- 1:46:24SPEAKER_00: And listen, if you've been following along with this show, you know how I feel about the PR staff.
- 1:46:32SPEAKER_00: It's ruled by one man, and he has end-all be all final say on who gets credentialed and who doesn't, and there's no rhyme or reason for who the bills decide on.
- 1:46:44SPEAKER_00: You have people that are members of terrestrial media as far as television, radio, and the written word and newspaper that are credentialed, and then you have just kind of these other members of the media that the head of PR has decided on a willy-nilly basis to credential.
- 1:47:02SPEAKER_00: And quite frankly, it's bullshit for people like John Murphy, who's working on a part-time basis, much like another member of the Bills Media is who's been around for quite some time, and he's offered a credential, but for some reason John Murphy isn't.
- 1:47:18SPEAKER_00: I wonder why, as David brings up here.
- 1:47:22SPEAKER_00: And you've all, if you followed along, heard my saga with the credentials in the past.
- 1:47:28SPEAKER_00: So I just think it's a sham how they decide things, and it's really disappointing for a team that uh so many fans and and so many people love to follow that they rule things with an iron fist and quite frankly, unfairly on the PR side.
- 1:47:43SPEAKER_00: Who is our punt returner?
- 1:47:45SPEAKER_00: Not sure at this point.
- 1:47:46SPEAKER_00: Uh it could still be having yet to be decided.
- 1:47:51SPEAKER_00: It could be also the fact that the Bills are gonna go with Khalil Shakir back there just as the safe option.
- 1:48:03SPEAKER_00: So, really not sure what the Bills are gonna decide to do as far as their punt returner quite yet.
- 1:48:13SPEAKER_00: Robert chimes in.
- 1:48:14SPEAKER_00: This will be an above average defense, should be enough to get us to the Super Bowl where we will play the undefeated Rams and pull out the W like it's Giants versus Patriots.
- 1:48:25SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I think that's how it would have to be.
- 1:48:27SPEAKER_00: I have the Bills at 11-6, if I remember correctly, on my most recent game-by-game prediction.
- 1:48:33SPEAKER_00: And I think that's how it would have to be if the Bills win the Super Bowl this year.
- 1:48:36SPEAKER_00: I think they'd have to kind of come out of nowhere in the playoffs.
- 1:48:39SPEAKER_00: I know they're a favorite enter in the year, but their season, their schedule this season is so tough.
- 1:48:44SPEAKER_00: It's gonna be surprising to me if they come out as one of the top seeds in the AFC.
- 1:48:52SPEAKER_00: Question here about Doman from John.
- 1:48:54SPEAKER_00: Yes, he did make the team.
- 1:48:55SPEAKER_00: He is the Bills starting punter after Mitch Wisnowski was released.
- 1:49:06SPEAKER_00: And that is about it for the questions.
- 1:49:11SPEAKER_00: We have Paul chiming in here.
- 1:49:12SPEAKER_00: We are going to the Super Bowl, goal Bills.
- 1:49:14SPEAKER_00: It's about health in the end.
- 1:49:16SPEAKER_00: And yes, I did see a report that the Bills greatly reduced their injury rate, but at the same time, I would bring into question the age of the roster this year compared to last year, along with how the injuries have been reported this year, with a lot of dubiousness surrounding those.
- 1:49:37SPEAKER_00: So I I don't want to firmly question that report, but I'd like to see the research behind it and how it really was finessed based on how the Bills finessed things this off season.
- 1:49:52SPEAKER_00: So I know that it seems like they've avoided much more injury, but at the same time, you do have kind of McGovern's.
- 1:50:00SPEAKER_00: Ty Johnson, who are still on the mend with week one coming up very, very quickly, and others as well.
- 1:50:07SPEAKER_00: So there remain injury concerns for the Bills, despite it seeming that they have reduced the number of preseason injuries this year.
- 1:50:21SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:50:22SPEAKER_00: So once again, we'll we will review the Bills' 53-man roster here, beginning on the offensive side of the ball.
- 1:50:34SPEAKER_00: Josh Allen and Kyle Allen at quarterback, James Cook, Ray Davis, Ty Johnson at running back, Dalton Kincaid, Dawson Knox, Jackson Hawson, Kalecki Latu.
- 1:50:44SPEAKER_00: A little bit of surprise on Latu at tight end.
- 1:50:47SPEAKER_00: DJ Moore, Khalil Shakir, Joshua Palmer, Keon Coleman, Skyler Bell at wide receiver.
- 1:50:54SPEAKER_00: A little bit of a surprise that the Bills kept off Trent Shurfield.
- 1:50:58SPEAKER_00: And then at offensive line, Deion Dawkins, Jude Bowery, Alec Anderson, Austin Corbett, Connor McGovern, Lloyd Cushenberry, Osiris Torrance, Armaj Reed Adams, Spencer Brown, and Tylon Grable.
- 1:51:13SPEAKER_00: Kicker, Tyler Bass, punter Tommy Doman Jr., long snapper Reed Ferguson.
- 1:51:18SPEAKER_00: Flipping over to the defensive side of the ball, Ed Oliver, Deion Walker, Dwayne Carter, TJ Sanders, Landon Jackson, and Greg Gaines along the defensive line.
- 1:51:30SPEAKER_00: At Edge Rusher, Bradley Chubb, Greg Rousseau, Michael Hoyt, TJ Parker, Mike Dana, and Javon Solomon.
- 1:51:37SPEAKER_00: At inside linebacker, Terrell Bernard, Dorian Williams, Caleb Elarmsor, Joe Andreessen.
- 1:51:44SPEAKER_00: The Bills did cut Keonta Jenkins.
- 1:51:46SPEAKER_00: That was a bit of surprise there.
- 1:51:47SPEAKER_00: And also going back to the defensive line with Zane Durant being placed on injured reserve and also Federian Mathis being suspended.
- 1:51:55SPEAKER_00: That allowed the Bills to hold on to Dwayne Carter and Greg Gaines to back up Deion Walker at the nose tackle position.
- 1:52:03SPEAKER_00: Cornerback, Christian Benford, Maxwell Harrison, Davison Igbinoson.
- 1:52:07SPEAKER_00: The only three outside cornerbacks kept by the Bills.
- 1:52:10SPEAKER_00: Obviously, Canai Walker, as William brings up here, was cut by the Bills earlier today.
- 1:52:21SPEAKER_00: A disappointing cut for many.
- 1:52:22SPEAKER_00: Nickel cornerback, D.
- 1:52:24SPEAKER_00: Offer, Jordan Hancock, Safety, CJ Gardner Johnson, Damar Hamlin, Cole Bishop, Jalen Kilgore, and Sam Franklin Jr.
- 1:52:33SPEAKER_00: So that's the Bills roster.
- 1:52:35SPEAKER_00: And as William asks, how about compare, contrast Connie Walker, Kenai Walker with the DBs that were kept?
- 1:52:41SPEAKER_00: Anyone you would have rather cut.
- 1:52:43SPEAKER_00: I don't think I would have rather cut any other defensive backs, but I would have rather cut Dwayne Carter than Kennai Walker.
- 1:52:52SPEAKER_00: I think you're never going to get anything meaningful out of Dwayne Carter.
- 1:52:55SPEAKER_00: Why keep him around at this point?
- 1:52:57SPEAKER_00: He was a waste of a third-round pick.
- 1:52:58SPEAKER_00: He's proven to be as much.
- 1:53:00SPEAKER_00: And frankly, Conai Walker was much, much better than Dwayne Carter has ever shown at the defensive tackle position while Walker was performing during the preseason and training camp.
- 1:53:14SPEAKER_00: You still could get him back on the practice squad, but I think it might be more difficult to get him back on the practice squad than it would have Dwayne Carter.
- 1:53:21SPEAKER_00: What has he shown at this point that would really lead any outside organization to say, oh, I really want D Dwayne Carter on my team?
- 1:53:28SPEAKER_00: Whereas Can I Walker is kind of the flavor of the month and somebody who could find his way onto another team's roster by the end of the day, or perhaps in the coming days.
- 1:53:39SPEAKER_00: So the question, would I rather have kept another defensive back rather than or would I rather have kept Can I Walker than another of the defensive backs that are on the roster?
- 1:53:49SPEAKER_00: No, but I would have rather used Dwayne Carter's roster spot for Kenai Walker instead.
- 1:53:57SPEAKER_00: All right.
- 1:53:58SPEAKER_00: That's gonna do it for today's show.
- 1:54:01SPEAKER_00: Be sure to follow along throughout the rest of the preseason.
- 1:54:05SPEAKER_00: I know the preseason games are over, but we're still waiting for week one to reach us in a few weeks.
