- 0:44here you are about to go to your first inserts training for the school and
- 0:47I popped him for a gavel re quick, and I think that's what you're
- 0:49gonna need to do. It's a gavel pop. I don't know. I
- 0:51think that's just what you're gonna have to do. You don't have to wake
- 0:53up earlier in the morning or just you know, we could do it.
- 0:58There's plenty of times. Or you could get up early in the morning.
- 1:00I could get up early in the morning. So we real quick, gabbl
- 1:03pop, what's going on here? Hey? You know we're gonna have to
- 1:06get it right, bramblefest. They'll get it right, We'll get it right
- 1:08first. We almost never make mistakes, never but almost never. But in
- 1:12this case we did. Fixing to get ready a quid pro Yeah, I
- 1:18almost not bad. I almost. I thought it was really good all but
- 1:21then I waffled over whether judge matthis if I could throw hose in there somewhere,
- 1:26and I didn't feel like I could judge Mathis was good. Mathis one
- 1:30hundred percent? Would believe me? Man? How are you? I'm great?
- 1:34How about you doing great? I have a judge, Jerry, you
- 1:37have a math I've got a Mathis. Both seem like fun ones. Oh
- 1:40they're fun times. How long was your case watching it? Seven minutes mine
- 1:42as well as a short double seven? So you know that they're good ones.
- 1:49You want me to go first? Go for it, judge Jerry?
- 1:52You know Jerry? Oh, I know, Jerry. No, Jery,
- 1:55Jerry, you know, just broke up fights on stage for years and then
- 2:00decide I'll take this knowledge the law if I can do this, Yeah I
- 2:06can. Yeah, you know it's exciting I just sawn AD, and I'll
- 2:08think I'll do this one next time. I just saw it. Ad.
- 2:10There's a new court show with Kevin from Shark Tank. It's called money Court.
- 2:15Really Yeah. It premieres as we're recording this tonight on CNBC Money Courtney
- 2:22course, So I'm going to give that a try next time. If you're
- 2:23going to record on Thursday, I was gonna do just try to take a
- 2:25dollar from everybody else says dollar per case. Yeah, he says, I'll
- 2:30do fifty cents perpetuity. That's right, but you're guilty, all right?
- 2:38Are we ready to go? Let's do it. I want to introduce you
- 2:39to James Mulhern. James Mulhern, Yes he believe it or not. And
- 2:46I say this knowing the case, and eventually you'll be like, he did
- 2:51this. He is suing uh Betty and Contoy. He's suing her for five
- 2:57thousand dollars, is suing him for four thousand, three and seventy five dollars.
- 3:02Five got it? Are you ready to I have been Contoy and Molhart.
- 3:06That's exactly right. I got a pair of jeans. They're great,
- 3:10like a bad legal team. They do comeing down to Contoy and Molhart,
- 3:15have you been hurting an accident? Can you not afford? George Sink coned
- 3:19Toy and molhert call all ones at a nine. At the end, we
- 3:23did the best one one one one one one nine. James and Betty have
- 3:30been friends for a long time, little did he James Betty and so they've
- 3:38been friends for a long time, way back, even when they were kids,
- 3:42and they've kind of stayed in contact. He ands up, James does
- 3:45marrying her good friends. So they're just connected, I got you. They
- 3:49get a divorce, of course, but they do they do that. They're
- 3:53connected in this way. They hang out all the time with Betty and her
- 3:59husband. Betty and her husband also get a divorced, but none of that
- 4:01is important to this case. He even worked with Betty's dad for a while,
- 4:06so they're just, oh yeah, connection. Yes. So Betty would
- 4:13say at the time that she this all was happening, she would have said,
- 4:18he's a trustworthy guy. So here's what happened. Betty and James were
- 4:23talking one day. Betty is getting ready to have us have a surgery,
- 4:28okay, and there were some things that she wanted to get done around the
- 4:32house. But she, you know, she was gonna have her surgery.
- 4:36She didn't want to let it go. And so she's talking to James,
- 4:40and James is like, well, here's the thing. I also I need
- 4:44a place to stay. Yeah, so how about I'll come down. I'll
- 4:48help you around the house. I'll help you after you have your surgery and
- 4:54and then I can stay at your house. I only have like eight hundred
- 4:58dollars a month. She's like, no, need one hundred and twenty five
- 5:00a week. We'll do a week. So five hund a month. So
- 5:05he's gonna do some work around the house. He's going to pay her five
- 5:08hundred a month, but he's suing her for five grand. Yes. Wow,
- 5:12So you don't see this every day? You sure don't. So uh
- 5:17he ends up. Uh they're they're there. He here's where things get weird.
- 5:24So okay, right before he was supposed to move on down and move
- 5:28in with her, calls her up and says, hey, I fell off
- 5:30a wall. Okay, now I do have a few follow ups there at
- 5:34a wall, you typically, none of which I have answers to fall off
- 5:39Like a ledge, A wall is just straight up and down. Fell off
- 5:42a wall and I I won't be able to help for a while, but
- 5:46I do still need a place to stay. And so she says, okay,
- 5:51as long as you can still pay, no problem. So he shows
- 5:55up full body cast. Are you serious? She says, full but who
- 5:59weild him? Man? I don't know. She shows up full body cast,
- 6:01no, and he's like, and she realizes this is going to be
- 6:04a lot. Now, this is a weird case where he's suing her,
- 6:08but she's doing the bulk of the talking. Yeah, he's not really,
- 6:11he's not really saying a lot. I I thought for sure for a while
- 6:14they had just had like swapped places, but no, so uh, he
- 6:19starts. She starts to realize this is going to be kind of an ordeal
- 6:23at this point. And so the plan was for him to just stay,
- 6:27like, you know, a month or two, a few weeks, do
- 6:30the things. He ends up staying for thirty five weeks. Okay, all
- 6:35right, so like nine months? Yeah, eight months? Yeah, long
- 6:40time, long time, longer than they had plants, does not do any
- 6:45work? Do you pay her five hundred dollars a month? Does not pay
- 6:47her any month? And he's suing her. So he ends up getting kicked
- 6:53out after thirty five weeks because Betty's daughter's there, Betty daughter, Betty Betty
- 7:00daughter, I am Betty Betty daughter. Betty's daughter comes up and it's like,
- 7:04you know, we started noticing a few weeks in that James was always
- 7:11drunk, and now this is an issue because Betty James is doing Betty and
- 7:15though still right, okay, Betty told James, you can come in one
- 7:18hundred and twenty five a week, but I got a few rules. One
- 7:21no drinking, no drinking, no drugs, no drugs, and no having
- 7:26people over. So he Wow, this is like a monastery. The rules
- 7:31were strict. Now they started to realize that James was always drunk. They
- 7:35bring in a few pictures and videos of him being passed out on the side
- 7:39of the road. This happened in seven minutes. Yeah, wow, being
- 7:42passed. There were some weird cuts, so maybe they cut a thing out
- 7:45or two. I don't know, but uh, but they claim on the
- 7:47YouTube that's the full cases. I don't know. It was a short boy.
- 7:51He's drunk on the side of the road. They show a couple of
- 7:54videos of him just like slurring words at one point. In one of the
- 7:57videos he's talking to Betty. Betty's like, I know you've been drinking.
- 8:03And he's like, what about you? And she's like what about me?
- 8:07And he's like, I saw you drinking and she's like, oh, drinking
- 8:09iced tea and he was like and she's like, just ce tea. And
- 8:15then he's like all right, all right. And then and then and then
- 8:20she's like, I know you were drinking and he was like, yeah,
- 8:24vodka that your daughter bought me. Oh and and after this video, James
- 8:31pipes up and says, Betty's daughter has been buying me alcohol on the regular.
- 8:37Now we don't dive into that information. We don't do even Betty,
- 8:41Betty's daughter is kind of like, no, no, no, very odd
- 8:45odd. How have we gotten this far? And I don't know why he
- 8:48is suing her? So he gets kicked out. And it's at this case,
- 8:54at this point in time, that James realizes that he, at some
- 8:58point in times, placed his five thousand dollars that he has barely Apparently he
- 9:05like, you know, puts five thousand dollars under a mattress or something,
- 9:07I don't know, but he figures out I have left my five thousand dollars
- 9:11at Betty's. He claims he had exactly five thousand dollars in cash, which
- 9:16happens to be the maximum for Judge Jerry, it does. And he took
- 9:20it to this house even though he could only ford one to twenty five a
- 9:24week. Yes, and he put it somewhere and just left it. He
- 9:28forgot it on his way out. He was kicked out. He was dollars,
- 9:31was forced out very quickly. Didn't have time to believe doing this right
- 9:35now, what's the countersuit for? So the countersuit is for I should have
- 9:37a judge. The countersuit is for the one twenty five a month he didn't
- 9:43pay for thirty five weeks week for thirty five week yeska, right, he
- 9:46didn't pay it. Does he admit he didn't pay it? Uh? There's
- 9:50uh. He doesn't really say much of anything. But what he does say
- 9:54is, we never had a written agreement. Okay, we talked about it.
- 10:00I didn't sign anything. She didn't give anything in court that they had
- 10:03an agreement for one twenty five a week. Does he get that? He
- 10:05just says that we never signed anything and so uh so so early he is
- 10:13missing his five thousand grand, five thousand grand, five thousand. That's a
- 10:16lot of money, five thousand thousands. He's missing his million dollars, but
- 10:20I wouldn't put it. That'st this guy all cash under his bed, everything
- 10:24in front. He's missing his five grand. She just wants, you know,
- 10:28the thirty five weeks worth of one hundred and twenty five dollars four thousand.
- 10:33Weird about this case to me is that she would have never brought him
- 10:37to court. It doesn't seem like it. It seems like she was fine
- 10:41without the forty eight hundred and then he was like, you stole five thousand
- 10:46dollars. For the life of me, I can't figure out why this guy
- 10:50decided to bring give nothing, get out. It's a give nothing, get
- 10:54out situation. It is a give nothing, get out situation. No evidence
- 10:58was brought by either person showing either A you had five grand to begin with
- 11:03or B you didn't have written agreement, therefore astounding waste of seven minutes.
- 11:07It really was. But but I got to see Uh got to see James
- 11:11Uh accuse Betty's daughter of buying alcohol with alcohol. Yeah, as she does.
- 11:18That was fun. Wow, that's it. That's judge Jeriow boy,
- 11:22we did it. Hey, I know you kicked me out. I'm under
- 11:28I know I didn't pay you. I didn't have the money for thirty five
- 11:31weeks. I have left an exact amount in your house, and that exact
- 11:35amount is ruffles papers five thousand dollars. Like, if you're trying to get
- 11:43money out of a court show, don't go for the max. I think
- 11:45it's rule one, right, like say it's like thirty one hundred and seventy
- 11:48five dollars. I was keeping track, like, do that, then maybe
- 11:52you'll get paid. It's ridiculous. You want to go into the mathis Chambers
- 11:56what? I just want to do some quazza too too. What's happening now?
- 12:01I was thinking maybe like the eight the five thousand, like he says,
- 12:05I only get eight hundred a month, and so maybe the eight hundred
- 12:07a month he was gay week eight months. That's seven thousand if he did
- 12:11that, sixty four hundred eight. Yeah, you ready for mathos, I'm
- 12:16ready. So let me introduce you to Terrence Ray the second and Raymond Bowen
- 12:22the third. I'm not making neither one or junior one is Terrence Ray the
- 12:26second with two Roman numeral eyes out there, Raymond bow and the third with
- 12:30three Roman numerals. There's nothing you can do about that. There's nothing you
- 12:33can do. These two look like third high, you know, these two.
- 12:37And I hate to bring what people look like into this into the chambers
- 12:41here, but I can't. They couldn't look like they're more different people,
- 12:46uh, Terrence ray the second is a short, stocky African American man who's
- 12:50wearing a nice V neck sweater and he's a sensible pair of slacks. He's
- 12:56probably thirty five years old. He strike you as somebody who could serenade you
- 13:01with a song. Yeah, yeah, he does. He's maybe five to
- 13:05two five teens. This is a small fella, Raymond Bowen. The third
- 13:11is big. Is a tog drink of water. Okay, white as a
- 13:16paper plate. Beard, looks like he just woke up for court. Purple
- 13:22arm cast, bright purple. It is a cast on his arm from elbow
- 13:26to hands. Personal it is bright purple, like he wants to draw attention
- 13:33to it. He walks into the court. How tall would you say he
- 13:35is? Well, it's tough because it depends on how short tears. There
- 13:39is at least a foot Between the two of them, they look like they
- 13:41would not have met in under any circumstance. Terrence ray the second is swing
- 13:46Raymond bow in the third for thirty eight hundred dollars Raymond bow and the third
- 13:50counter suing for fifteen hundred dollars thirty eight hundred for the first thirty eight hundred
- 13:56and fifteen eighteen hundred. So so the short fellas suing the guy with the
- 14:01cast for thirty eight cast guy is suing him. And if you think the
- 14:05cast has anything to do with this, you're gonna be sorely disappointed. My
- 14:09man just chose purple. He just chose it. He didn't know he was
- 14:13going to court, and he was like, I'll take bright purple. That's
- 14:18what happened here, Terrence. Terrence starts off and he says, listen,
- 14:22we've been best friends pretty much. Raymond's pretty much like a little brother to
- 14:26me. We've been through a lot together. Was not little, yeah,
- 14:31he says that, and then he says one time I saved his life,
- 14:35and Mathis is like, we got seven minutes. I need to hear about
- 14:37this. So he says, well, Raymond and I went to go to
- 14:43watch a street fight, and pretty much it went bad. Pretty much it
- 14:48went bad went bad. The friend of ours that was supposed to be in
- 14:52the street fight, so apparently they were supporting a friend who was going to
- 14:56be in a street fight just up and left in the middle of it.
- 15:00And this is happening, I believe in twenty twenty, twenty nineteen, like
- 15:03it's a new case. It was posted sixteen hours ago by judge Maths.
- 15:07Are there people in the stands in the Yeah, there's people in the crowd,
- 15:11so who knows. So the guy who was supposed to be in the
- 15:16fight as a friend of ours, he just up and left in the middle
- 15:18of the street fight. So all the tension got brought on me and Raymond.
- 15:22So they had a third guy who just up and left and in the
- 15:26middle of us, well, street fight. The guy was supposed to be
- 15:28the guy fighting. They were just gonna go watch. I think it was
- 15:31a like i'll see you after, you know, at night at this time,
- 15:35like a fight club. Yah, yeah, yeah, Well they were
- 15:35mad at each Other're gonna settle it on the hardwood, going on the asphalt
- 15:39or wherever. And he says, the guy just up and left in the
- 15:43middle of the street fight and all the tension got brought on to me and
- 15:46Raymond. At this point, the camera goes to Mathis. He is making
- 15:50a face that I can only akin to Michael Strahan's face in Our Deck the
- 15:54Hallmark opening credit. Yes, he's like this, just disgusted. He's just
- 15:58like he doesn't know, like and then and then Terrence says, at one
- 16:03point, I had a gun to my neck. Wow. At this point,
- 16:07Mathis says, what city are you from? And he says Columbus,
- 16:10Ohio, And he goes, you do know that street fights don't really happen
- 16:12anymore, right, you know? And then Mathis goes on a rant and
- 16:17says, you know they now they dump guns into the inner cities and it's
- 16:22not a street fight anymore, you know. That's how it goes, right,
- 16:26And Terrence is over there just saying yes, sir, yes, sir
- 16:27the whole time. And then he says, sorry, what And then he
- 16:30says, you can't even talk a lot of stuff these days, let alone
- 16:34put your hands on somebody. That's what Judge Mathis says. I think he's
- 16:38saying, back in his day, you would run your mouth and you'd settle
- 16:41it. On the hardway. You'd handle it like a man. That's right.
- 16:44And now the gun, it becomes violent really quick. I see what
- 16:48he's saying. It was a little baffled by the they dumped gun. Yes,
- 16:52so you saved his life. You got him out of the street fight.
- 16:55And he said, yeah, after all that, our bond became stronger.
- 16:59Our we each have sons. They're one month apart. Wow. And
- 17:03at this point Mathis should dive into why he's suing for thirty eight one hundred
- 17:07dollars budd He doesn't what minute are we in. We're in like minute three,
- 17:11and Mathis goes, let me hear from you, sir. He goes
- 17:15to the other guy, the plaintiff doesn't ever tell why he's suing, doesn't
- 17:18ever say it. We're halfway through the case. All we've heard, we
- 17:22never find out why he's singing. We're getting there, okay. So then
- 17:23he goes to Raymond, and Raymond goes, look me and Terry go back
- 17:26a long way. Terry he's like a big brother to me, even though
- 17:30he's a foot taller than Terry. It's wild. And he actually loaned me
- 17:33some money. And at this point, over halfway through Mathis goes, oh,
- 17:37yeah, that's right, he's suing you. Hold on, let me
- 17:40go back and see why he's suing you. Mathis is just in his own
- 17:44way. He was on it today. Yeah. So we go back to
- 17:47Terry or Terrence. He goes, we did the backstory. Let me tell
- 17:51you why you're suing. He said, well, Raymond came to me.
- 17:53He said he needed a car, he needed to get around, he needed
- 17:56to provide, he needed to work, and he needed a loan. And
- 18:00I did what I could. He's my little brother, like I did what
- 18:02he could. I could. I got four thousand dollars in cash. That's
- 18:06how much I could afford. I gave him four thousand dollars in cash.
- 18:08Wow. Mathis said, how long did you give him to repay the money?
- 18:11He said, well, he had a job. He got paid every
- 18:12two weeks. I said, give me two hundred dollars every two weeks,
- 18:15more than more than fair. One hundred bucks a week. That's all he
- 18:18was having to pay. Was gonna ta him forty weeks to pay it back.
- 18:22He said that was fine, amazing. Yeah. So Mathis says,
- 18:26they don't. So he says, two hundred bucks away every two weeks.
- 18:29Mathews says, they don't have buses in Columbus, Ohio, Terrence not Raymond.
- 18:33Tarrence said they do, but it just takes hours to get anywhere.
- 18:37Mathis says okay, and Terrance says he's my little brother man, like I
- 18:41wanted to help him out. And Matthews says this, which is one of
- 18:44my favorite lines ever. I wouldn't loan my little brother four thousand dollars right
- 18:48now and I can afford it. I don't know. I mean, is
- 18:55mathis that much of a cheap skate? Like Maths is wrong? Like what
- 18:59do you calm down? Mathis? That's a weird Uh. I wind take
- 19:04a stand and do an act of kindness for a dear friend in need,
- 19:07and I've got the money to do it. That's what he says to Terrence.
- 19:12Now he turns to Raymond, and Raymond, is he gonna hold that
- 19:17again? Stuff? Apparently? Well, Raymond, it mints that he loaned
- 19:21him the money, and it mints that the two hundred dollars per two weeks
- 19:25was the agreed upon price and minced it in the court, and then he
- 19:29paid the first time, and then he stopped paying. Hence the thirty eight
- 19:33hundred dollars he stopped paying. Well, you said you agreed to it.
- 19:37Why did you stop paying? Raymond says, I found out after my first
- 19:41payments that Terrence was messing around with my girlfriend. Whoa whoa, whoa whoa
- 19:45whoa. I forgot about that. So Mathis at this point doesn't quid pro
- 19:48bro quipro bro. Mathis does a bit here. He starts accenting little brother
- 19:55and best friend. He does a best friend. He does it real high.
- 19:57He's like your best friends, like your best frien. How could you
- 20:00do that to your best friend? Like? It's a full bit. I
- 20:02still don't know how all this happens in seven minutes. Does Terry ever talk
- 20:07about it? Harry is silent, just like he never We're getting there,
- 20:10Mathis says, all right, keep going. He said my girlfriend was really
- 20:12distant. We weren't going out as much. I checked her Facebook messages.
- 20:15On Facebook message her and Terry talking back and forth. We got drinks,
- 20:19this, this that talking. It's clear. I go and confront Terrence about
- 20:23this and he said yes, no remorse on his face and didn't care.
- 20:27Oh, Matthis says, So that's what happened to your arm. Then you
- 20:32punched him in the face, broke your hand. He says, no,
- 20:36sir, I can't. Even with the casts, we never find out.
- 20:41He just chose purple, That's what he did. I chose purple. I
- 20:45got up. I'm gonna grown adult, man. Let me give me a
- 20:47bright knee on color. Please? And uh, he says, Terrence,
- 20:52what's going on here? And Terrence says they were broken up at the time
- 20:55for months. Is what she told me. She came were on a break.
- 20:56That's right, they were on a break. And Math says, I
- 21:00thought y'all were best friends. Yeah, I thought you were best friends.
- 21:03If you're best friends, you didn't say, hey, man, your ex
- 21:07just hit on me. Uh, you didn't say, hey, I'm thinking
- 21:08about dating your ax. Got it. You got to run it by the
- 21:11guy to do that at all. You just kept it from him. He
- 21:15goes, Yeah, I kept it from I didn't think it was important.
- 21:17Why it's brutal is another one? Why best friend? Why you goes,
- 21:19so you're suing fifteen hundred for emotional distress, so you don't think you need
- 21:22to pay the loan because he goes, and basically he says, look,
- 21:26I don't need a friend like that in my life. He's gonna take my
- 21:27girl, like I don't think of that friend. I don't need that girl.
