- 0:00Speaker 1: I did attend the news conference yesterday with Long Words
- 0:02head coach Steve Sarkisian, and we heard some of his
- 0:05comments yesterday, some of the things he was talking about,
- 0:07but here's more.
- 0:09Speaker 2: From him.
- 0:11Speaker 1: He was asked about being back in a league with
- 0:17the rivalry with Texas A and M, and carrying forward
- 0:20the rivalry with Oklahoma from the Big twelve end of
- 0:22the SEC, and the Arkansas rivalry. In other words, rivals
- 0:26and rivalries in college football and how it affects the
- 0:30game these days.
- 0:31Speaker 3: I'm chuckling right now because my two games against the
- 0:36University of Utah when I was at BYU my.
- 0:38Speaker 2: Junior year, I threw four interceptions.
- 0:40Speaker 3: I threw three in the first half and they were
- 0:42booming so bad my mom left the stadium at halftime. Okay,
- 0:46my second year, we played in a blizzard and I
- 0:49was seven for twelve for like eighty yards and we
- 0:51rushed for like three hundred and fifty yards and we won.
- 0:53So no, there's no like these great moments. But I
- 0:56remember both games vividly for their own, for their own
- 0:59for their own reasons. But that's like the rivalries in
- 1:03college football.
- 1:04Speaker 2: That's what this is all about. You know. I mean
- 1:07that it's so special and.
- 1:09Speaker 3: And I I love the pageantry of college football. I
- 1:14love the energy of the crowd. I love the smell
- 1:17of the popcorn, all that stuff. And there's nothing like
- 1:19this game. When you pull into the State Fair and
- 1:23you see fans from both sides and they're intermixed, and
- 1:28both teams buses pull up and we're in the same tunnel,
- 1:30and you come out and here's all those use OU
- 1:33fans and you look and there's all the sea of
- 1:35burn orange and you're just like, I can't wait.
- 1:37Speaker 2: To get over there with my people.
- 1:38Speaker 3: I just want to get get with them and like,
- 1:40but that's that's what it's about.
- 1:42Speaker 2: And the best way.
- 1:43Speaker 3: To enjoy and experience a rivalry game is to prepare
- 1:49really well, because I think that the people that get.
- 1:53Speaker 2: Caught up in the game on on Monday.
- 1:56Speaker 3: Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday missed the preparation and then you
- 2:00don't play very good and then you get your buck
- 2:01kicked and then you think, man, this was a terrible experience.
- 2:04And so if you want a good experience, we got
- 2:07to make sure we prepare really well so that we
- 2:09can enjoy the experience.
- 2:11Speaker 2: Because we're playing good football.
- 2:12Speaker 1: I think that's well put about preparing for your rival
- 2:16means preparing period. You have to prepare and be ready
- 2:19for that. He was asked for an update on Jayden Blue. Now, Jayden,
- 2:23as we know, had the outstanding performance against U EL Monroe.
- 2:28Had one hundred and twenty four rushing yards, street rushing touchdowns,
- 2:31caught a pass for a touchdown. So he had this
- 2:33really stand out performance. And then you experience the other
- 2:38side of that sort of thing, and that happened with
- 2:41his two fumbles in the ball game. One earlier in
- 2:45the game on the second drive when it looked like
- 2:48they might go in for a two score advantage. And
- 2:50then on the first drive of the second half there
- 2:51in the third quarter when he fumbled when he thought
- 2:53he was down and originally was ruled down and then
- 2:56replay review overturned the call. And that was all we
- 2:59saw from Ja and Blue the rest of the ball game.
- 3:01So he was out and Trey Wisner and Jared Gibson,
- 3:05even Ryan Nibbling in there a little bit finished up afterwards.
- 3:09I asked Sark after the game about Jayden Blue, and
- 3:12he said, and I'm worried about him. We'll get him
- 3:15back up and tell him, you know, we need him,
- 3:17and so and so, and he was asked a very
- 3:18similar thing about about Jayden and his status and what
- 3:23kinds of things. He says, to a guy who experienced
- 3:26what Jane Blue did on Saturday, Yeah, Ho'll be okay.
- 3:29Speaker 3: You know, physical physical errors or physical errors are just that.
- 3:33I think there's some things technically that we're going to
- 3:36work on with him to get him back in the
- 3:38right frame of mind. But hey, he's a competitor. Like
- 3:43I said Saturday night, we need Jayden Blue and and
- 3:48he is. He is an asset and a weapon on
- 3:51our team. He's a good teammate. Got to get back
- 3:54to work. Like I said, everybody on our team has
- 3:56got stuff that we're going to try to get better at.
- 3:58And like I told all the this morning, what's the
- 4:02what is the what right? What am I trying to
- 4:04get better at? Why do the coaches want me to
- 4:07get get better at it?
- 4:08Speaker 2: And how are we going to do it?
- 4:10Speaker 3: And if we can give them those three things, then
- 4:12I think every player will accept it and go to
- 4:14work on those things for a few days so that
- 4:16when they come back next week they're ready to roll.
- 4:18And that that happens to be his What right, I
- 4:21got to take care of the ball better? Why because
- 4:23we can't fumble. Here's how we're going to do it,
- 4:25and that that's kind of his process.
- 4:27Speaker 2: All right.
- 4:27Speaker 1: So then he was asked to follow up question or
- 4:30at least for his thoughts on the thing that Jayden Blue, then,
- 4:35after fumbling twice and being taken out of the game,
- 4:39did appear in the postgame media availability after being in
- 4:46the locker room and coming out, and he you know,
- 4:50stood up to it, answered questions about how he expects
- 4:54more of himself and the team expects more of him,
- 4:56and he's got to be better and all that sort
- 4:58of stuff. It's surprized, it certainly impressed. It might have
- 5:03surprised a few members of the media that Jane Blue
- 5:06actually appeared and didn't have to, but Sark said, that's
- 5:11all part of the process of being a long worn
- 5:13and growing up.
- 5:15Speaker 3: Well, hopefully all of our guys would do that, you know,
- 5:19but I think it just shows this real sense of maturity.
- 5:22You know, he's grown a lot in his time with us,
- 5:25and again I credit him for that and his willingness.
- 5:28I credit all those other running backs that he had
- 5:31in that room, and he was a youngster. From Bejon
- 5:34to Roshan to Keelan Robinson, Jonathan Brooks, I think they
- 5:37were great mentors for him.
- 5:38Speaker 2: I think any one of those four.
- 5:40Speaker 3: Guys, if they would have fumbled twice, would have came
- 5:42and sat with the media.
- 5:43Speaker 2: You know.
- 5:44Speaker 3: I vividly remembered Bejon fumbling at Texas Tech in overtime,
- 5:48and he came and talked to y'all. And because that's
- 5:51what we do right as as men, you know, we
- 5:54have to take accountability for our actions, right, That's that
- 5:57is what it is. And I think that, you know,
- 5:59we try to still that in our players, and Jaden
- 6:02understood that he and he went and spoke to the
- 6:05media and I think answered the questions, you know, real frankly,
- 6:10and then moved on.
- 6:11Speaker 2: Yeah, and that was it.
- 6:13Speaker 1: So they'll move on from that through the rest of
- 6:16this open date.
- 6:17Speaker 2: On the schedule.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Sart Gids say yesterday in some of the comments that
- 6:21we played that today Tuesday would be treated like a Monday,
- 6:26and what that means is on Monday they go through
- 6:31some lighter things and normally their big hay in the
- 6:35barn days for practice, the heavy days are Tuesday and Wednesday.
- 6:41This week it would be Wednesday and Thursday, and then
- 6:44he said they were going to give him the rest
- 6:46of the weekend off.
- 6:47Speaker 2: I wanted to get off their feet relax.
- 6:49Speaker 1: That's why that question came up from Central Golden yesterday
- 6:52about do you encourage your guys to watch other games
- 6:55when you have a buy on your schedule on Open
- 6:58Day and he said, yeah, we want him to see
- 7:01that and see guys in those positions and things of
- 7:04that nature. So they'll want them to be off their
- 7:07feet after that. But they have two pretty heavy days
- 7:12of practice coming up tomorrow and Thursday, and we'll hear
- 7:16more about that and some other things from Start coming
- 7:19up as well. Up next Inconceivable for a Tuesday afternoon
- 7:23here on Sports Radio AM thirteen under the zone of
- 7:25the iHeart Radio Am
