- 0:00It's bonus time, we're honored Athletics, LLC would allow us to

- 0:06YouTube series. Let's get to and see what the
- 0:08crew has in store this week. Hi everyone, different
- 0:41backgrounds, different time of day.
- 0:44Don't get mad if we get mixed up because who were thrown
- 0:47everybody's equilibrium off this week.
- 0:49So welcome to another fun episode of Athletics, LLC, Big
- 0:54League, Chew here, of course Clyde.
- 0:56How are you today, sir? It is the middle of the
- 1:00afternoon on a Tuesday if I'm good but I'm a little confused,
- 1:06right? You got the club going up?
- 1:10I just gotta say that, that sucks so lucious.
- 1:14How are you today? Sir, I am rolling.
- 1:16You know, it's a, it's been a good last couple of weeks for
- 1:20the Gator. So I'm great.
- 1:22I don't think anybody would disagree with that steam looses
- 1:26getting ready to board that Demetria, it's Emirates first
- 1:29class King flight to wherever, oh my Gina.
- 1:35Is he and he's only just smiling.
- 1:36So yes, move on Birmingham Lamar's, how are you, sir?
- 1:44I'm just taking it all in, you know, it's rare that a
- 1:49decathlete does to decathlon's in nine days.
- 1:52It's even more rare when they're on two different continents.
- 1:55So we're just going to roll with that.
- 1:57And I'm going to go get this dub.
- 2:07Big-league, Big League grows, big league froze.
- 2:10So we what? Oh, she's back now.
- 2:13Okay. Oh man, you know that TCU
- 2:18bandwidth is limited. Just kidding, just kidding.
- 2:24I haven't got my last day of my other, my first paycheck get.
- 2:26So we've got a new tile. Not one.
- 2:34That isn't familiar with the show though.
- 2:37The mayor Smith? No pun intended, pun, completely
- 2:40intended, mr. Duff, how are you today, sir?
- 2:45Oh, good. Happy to be to be here.
- 2:49Thank you, thank you for joining us.
- 2:50Seriously though. Yeah, I like to show it's going
- 2:54to be fun. I know these crazy folks.
- 2:57So yeah. Hey, hold on to you see big lie.
- 3:01Oh man, here we go. Right.
- 3:05Full disclosure, I'm in the office.
- 3:07So that means on my physio ball and I've already holes Fallen
- 3:09twice today so maybe three times a charm.
- 3:12We'll see, we'll see anyhow. All right.
- 3:15Well let's jump off the show. We had some great questions that
- 3:19were posed to us for the last few weeks.
- 3:22Via the audience on our YouTube channel.
- 3:24So we're going to have some of those questions and then just
- 3:27get some opinions about some things.
- 3:30So first, how do we so the conversation over the last few
- 3:33weeks have been the NCAA athletes?
- 3:36Are going to be too tired, they're not going to show up
- 3:38this that the third all - and we saw that that did not happen for
- 3:43moat for the most notables, right there are some who could
- 3:46crash and some more that didn't. So how do we meaning you all as?
- 3:52Coaches ensure that athletes are able to compete at the highest
- 3:54level and the months of June and July.
- 4:01I'll go first. I mean, yeah, it's just it's
- 4:04just a matter of planning, proper planning.
- 4:08Just from my experience in talking to other coaches that
- 4:14have experienced issues with this.
- 4:17There's just seems to be this Thought that we've been through
- 4:22a long season, I need to get my athletes back into shape, I'm
- 4:26not sure how you lose your conditioning or your shape
- 4:30coming off a major championship where you were just phenomenal
- 4:34or even good, right? I think that's a mistake people
- 4:37start trying to add too much to the equation and they end up
- 4:42overloading people. I think that that's the biggest
- 4:47issue. I see they just they just do too
- 4:49much. Is the kid will say, you don't
- 4:51want too much or doing the most, right?
- 4:56That's that's Tim. Are you doing the most right
- 4:58now? I appreciate you for stealing
- 5:00both my catchphrases right there because that's that's all,
- 5:03that's all I was going to ultimately say, is yes, people
- 5:08doing too much. I've literally heard tale of
- 5:14people quote unquote, going back to base coat on.
- 5:23What was the other one going back to base?
- 5:25And then the other term is somebody said to me, one time
- 5:28was reset from the beginning and I said, what does that mean?
- 5:33Like it's it's just a couple weeks away.
- 5:35What what are we talking about here?
- 5:39I think a lot of people try to get cute and screw up the whole
- 5:44you know things that they ultimately don't understand
- 5:47right like peeking and stuff like that.
- 5:50And if you have coaches, who may be there, you know, diving into
- 5:56that arena for the first time or crumbling under the pressure of
- 6:02what could come to them or their athletes.
- 6:05If this thing goes well, They just start overthinking it and
- 6:10doing too many things. I've witnessed it firsthand and
- 6:13it's really bad and ugly to watch, but it obviously is able
- 6:19to be done correctly. Lucius is done it correctly and
- 6:22a whole handful of people have gotten it right over the years.
- 6:26I'm less interested in how the conversation about how to get it
- 6:31done. And, and, you know, me, I get to
- 6:33take the pedi angle, like I like to spend a moment and be like,
- 6:37All these people that swore it was going to crash and burn
- 6:41because if you take the NCAA related folks out of USA's and
- 6:44out of the World Championships, our team looks really different
- 6:48and really bad in most instances.
- 6:52So you know I hope that this year's progress and this year's
- 6:57success would put an end to a lot of that ridiculous
- 7:02narrative. Well I obviously I agree with
- 7:12both of those takes so I will only try to add and and I will
- 7:16say that Using a cliche. If you fail to plan, then you
- 7:24plan to fail. So if you, I mean, you have to
- 7:28know your personnel, right? They always say, you got to know
- 7:30your horse. If you're, if you are coaching
- 7:34an athlete and athletes that, if you do your job and they do
- 7:39their job, they will be at USA's and possibly make the team,
- 7:43right? If that's the possibility, then
- 7:46that should be part of your master. and for the year, Right?
- 7:51Like the training that you write shouldn't end June 14th or
- 7:55whatever the date of ncaa's is right?
- 7:58That doesn't make any sense but it is amazing.
- 8:01How often that happens. And so like that I think is a
- 8:05big part, right? Because you can't just pick it
- 8:11up on the Fly Like that's, that's problem.
- 8:14Because that's when you put in, you know, more sugar and more
- 8:18milk thinking, it's going to make a better cake and it
- 8:20definitely but I, what I will also say is Also part of knowing
- 8:31your horse, understand that just because your your student
- 8:38athlete has the possibility or if you're successful, does make
- 8:43it through you, the USA's Gauntlet and makes it to the
- 8:46championship. Let's be clear.
- 8:49Very very rarely is that athletes goal for the year to
- 8:54make the final at World Championships or the Olympics or
- 8:57win a medal, right? Like some of You're doing is
- 9:01trying to get them there for the experience.
- 9:06To be able to build off of the following year, right?
- 9:10I mean, not not very many athletes, start to Collegiate
- 9:15season, And are expected to win a medal right there.
- 9:20Me that we can probably name that.
- 9:22That group. It's not a, not a large group of
- 9:24people historically, but I definitely think that people
- 9:28tend to mess that up. Clyde alluded to it.
- 9:32It's like when when they get closer to USA's and they see
- 9:39what the landscape really is. I like, yo, we can make this
- 9:41team. Yo, we make this team, we can
- 9:44win a medal, you know, if we do this, you know.
- 9:47Be a six-figure contract. They start thinking along those
- 9:50lines and it's like, listen, it's like dominoes all money
- 9:53ain't good money, and if you're chasing money, you're almost
- 9:55certainly got it all wrong in the first place, right?
- 9:58And and I just, I think sometimes it's funny because I
- 10:03own said this in year, one, but I can't get away from it.
- 10:09You have, we're trying to prepare young people for
- 10:13careers, not a contract. Right?
- 10:17And so like the each one of these things has to be building
- 10:21blocks of uninjured, stackable training and success.
- 10:27So the more times you mess that up, the more rewrites you end up
- 10:31having to do the faster careers get derailed.
- 10:34And I'm not going to go through this, but I mean, we all can
- 10:36name 50 careers that have been derailed just in that part
- 10:41alone. So I for me, I think one of the
- 10:44in addition to what might Cohorts of said, I think one of
- 10:48the biggest things that you have to do is from the beginning,
- 10:53know your horse like assume success when you're planning for
- 10:57the season assume that you're going to do it right and they're
- 11:00going to do it, right? And what would that bring?
- 11:04You know, it always kills me that how people in the field
- 11:06events, don't know what world championship or Olympic
- 11:09standards, are that blows my mind.
- 11:12Like I've been to so many Meats in years where the world Champs
- 11:16are standing behind step is to 31 and watch people jump at 2:30
- 11:20and I'm just like, I don't understand this.
- 11:23Like you've got to meet one, you can set the bar whatever you
- 11:25want to. I don't get why you're jumping
- 11:28at this bar but that's because you don't know and then I look
- 11:30like a jackass if I go over and tell you so I'm not going to
- 11:35walk because he cause you know how that it you know how that
- 11:36goes, you know how that goes. If you go to tell the coach I
- 11:40coached like You probably don't want to jump into 32 Sanders 231
- 11:46I know what I'm doing, okay? See that's why I didn't say
- 11:48anything. I think to build on the
- 11:53conversation, I got a couple of different types but one of them
- 11:57I think Lamar nailed it on and if you fail to plan, I had an
- 12:01athlete that I won't name because that's a whole nother
- 12:04conversation. But anyway, he literally asked
- 12:06me. during his early on in his season, if we could prepare for
- 12:11worlds, And I was like, of course.
- 12:15Now due to circumstances out of his control, he never got a
- 12:19chance at that but that was our plan, the whole season.
- 12:23So we've been going through and sees, we already knew walking in
- 12:25the door with that was going to be.
- 12:27And I think there's also an element of track and field that
- 12:30gets lost. Sometimes when people start to
- 12:32try to be too smart or the expert, and at the end of the
- 12:37day, This is try. It's literally the same sport
- 12:42you're running when you were eight.
- 12:45I said around one day, you know, I had the privilege of knowing a
- 12:48lot of really really good track athletes and I used to ask them
- 12:51questions. Crazy question, I asked Kevin
- 12:53yeah, way way back when after 92 Olympics and came back to fall
- 12:59practice and ask my said you ever think about the fact that
- 13:02no one ever in life is run faster than you?
- 13:06And then I asked him, of course his answer was no but then I
- 13:10asked them about what it was like to run at an Olympic games
- 13:13are so hundred thousand people and he said to me, he said in 88
- 13:17he said I noticed he said but by 92 he said to you was just
- 13:22another tracking and that stuck with me because the end of the
- 13:26day when for example Lamar's out there in 2000, fighting for his
- 13:32metal it's just a decathlon, you're running.
- 13:36You were jumping and I think a lot of people and we all know me
- 13:39start talking to coaches. And like Clyde said, I had to go
- 13:42back to Bates. You're gonna make the base that
- 13:46person can do. They can do things to their
- 13:49genetics, your jobs and stay the hell out of the way.
- 13:52Most of the time especially when it gets the summer.
- 13:55You know, you start messing it up, trying to be an expert.
- 13:57And I think a lot of people fall into that, I think a lot of
- 14:00coaches also fall into the actually thinking, they found
- 14:03the secret workout. I love this is going well.
- 14:06Secret workout. It's got the I got the plan.
- 14:09You got the planet, man. Please, you go talk to somebody.
- 14:13I love talking to Lucius Lucius, sitting around like Brett.
- 14:17Hey, sometimes a secret workout is being conducted on the
- 14:21warm-up track. I'm going to tell you a little
- 14:25secret workout. Hey I posted this earlier this
- 14:27year. Tell you a secret workout
- 14:28complete. Talk to me a thousand times.
- 14:30We all got mentors. Everybody knows mine when I do
- 14:34call them 90. I'm glad to 10 and the 10th time
- 14:38was only because I told him, don't give me this answer.
- 14:40His answer is always the same when I have a dilemma rest.
- 14:48It says it every single one time I had to come dressed, he's a
- 14:54rest, he's a, would you do? He said, arrest them, let him
- 14:58mercy and to am glad you said that because, like, when you,
- 15:01when you look at what people do, right?
- 15:04So we have been training since September with Collegiate
- 15:08athletes, right? And we go through the grinder,
- 15:14that's the indoor season, and we go to the outdoor season.
- 15:17And the answer is to return to base, right?
- 15:22See, I've never understood that, like, I never understood when
- 15:26somebody called me. He's like, hey, you know, I'm
- 15:28gonna have like this is the Monday after the, in see.
- 15:32A premium that early we're going to do three by five hundred a
- 15:36mile. I got worried about, you see,
- 15:40I'm like, your uncle just let him rest.
- 15:42They just came off of two very grueling days of competition.
- 15:46Are they mentally and physically were just destroyed and then you
- 15:51travel there you travel back and you don't put them on track of
- 15:54it and do 500, you know, after you know, the world championship
- 16:00trials, you know, you have an athlete, go there and run well
- 16:04and you think, okay, now I got to get them back in shape.
- 16:07Well, they just ran really well. And, you know, this like there
- 16:12is a mental and physical grind to a long Collegiate season, but
- 16:16if you look at the majority collegians handled that pretty
- 16:19well this year, I don't think that any of the Collegiate
- 16:21actually metal and open event this year.
- 16:24I don't think so. But I think they handled
- 16:27themselves pretty well though you know, and I think that them
- 16:32being at least the level of close to it.
- 16:34They were at the NCAA championships, you know.
- 16:37I think you spoke to something that I think was critical.
- 16:39Like, I'll just take a couple of mine.
- 16:43I think Champion. Alison wasn't accustomed to the
- 16:47big crowd in Yugi. Right?
- 16:48He'd been there twice. Wouldn't that fool?
- 16:51Contrary probably of Clyde. It was pretty full.
- 16:52There wasn't even if you go back to area.
- 16:58Like, that's the biggest crowd we've ever been before.
- 17:00No. Right.
- 17:02Because he came in on covid. Is that?
- 17:04Because when you were in Tokyo, there was nobody in the street,
- 17:08nobody right? Yeah.
- 17:09So that was a great Point by the mayor that you know that those
- 17:14things make a difference. You know that's first time and I
- 17:16think you know I'm sorry the more that you little do that to
- 17:18like it's a preparation for the future and people don't don't
- 17:21think about that. They don't talk about that in
- 17:23the worst thing you can do is start.
- 17:26There's two things in major issues for me.
- 17:29Totally reconstruction your race model.
- 17:33Or try to get him in better shape tools, horrible items.
- 17:50Reading. Greetings from Cali.
- 17:53Yeah, it's been a while. I forgot you.
- 17:55That's where you are. That's my view.
- 18:01No, no, no no. Story.
- 18:11True story. True story.
- 18:12I'm booking the trip and I send the details and I said, hey, I
- 18:18need to get the the meal money set up for this trip to Cali.
- 18:25Well, why is there a question you're going to California?
- 18:28No, no, no, Alan Columbia. She goes and looks it up, she
- 18:33goes, don't think I could find is Columbia South Carolina.
- 18:38I'm like, oh my God. Look at the spelling like this
- 18:44is C 0. L 0 Colombia.
- 18:55Good to see you mayor, good to see you.
- 18:58Sir. I feel like that's kind of a,
- 19:01you know, you kind of came in just snuck in right on the right
- 19:04underneath, quite Governor. That's kind of how it came to
- 19:09fruition. Okay.
- 19:10You logged, 100%. Good stuff by the way.
- 19:15Congratulations to us again. We got what?
- 19:18We got. Another three, continents show.
- 19:20That's right, that's right. Oh jeez.
- 19:23What before all over the place? That's good.
- 19:27Everybody know you're good. But before we transition off of
- 19:31this, this has been a connected issue in The Ether of all of
- 19:35this. We talked about it a little bit
- 19:38before the championship, but now that the championship has been
- 19:41finished and has been wildly successful.
- 19:44Can we Circle back on the on the idea that the Collegiate
- 19:47athletes should have to declare themselves Pro to gain access
- 19:52and when you jump? Yeah, yeah.
- 20:07What distracted by the musings of the Lesser and we need to
- 20:13stop. No, no no stop that they're not
- 20:16the Lesser, you don't need to ask yourself, why are you being
- 20:27extra Petty to this? it's like, Biggs is still a
- 21:08thing because the Commonwealth literally these are the
- 21:12countries that were civilized and colonize, Great Britain.
- 21:17I just want to understand that's three continents worth all of
- 21:22Australia, almost all of Africa and three quarters of Asian.
- 21:26Like, what? And we're still having this,
- 21:30this, this Olympic-sized competition.
- 21:33But anyway, so that's where I'm in my I'm in my Petty bag.
- 21:36I mean, but it's In its Heyday, Commonwealth Games were the
- 21:40second largest game in the entire world, like, you know,
- 21:46that that's and that's insane. That's insane.
- 21:49Like the fact that the queen is still on the dollar bill in
- 21:53Canada. Yes.
- 21:56Okay anyway, so so, so you get where I've been the whole time.
- 22:02I've been here just like this, if you raise, I would be great.
- 22:07Giggling can we can't participate.
- 22:09Okay so no no I just want cuz we didn't let them conquer about
- 22:13what we were talking about. What we were talking about,
- 22:15right? One thing I will look we we
- 22:19always we have truth Sayers, one thing.
- 22:22We cannot, we would be remiss if we didn't at least acknowledge.
- 22:27Easier is not the right word, but the collegians in the
- 22:30American Collegiate system were dealt a positive hand in that,
- 22:37this is the earliest world championships has ever been,
- 22:40right? Because it's lucious and I had
- 22:42this conversation, it would be a tougher ask if the meat was in
- 22:47was, was two weeks from now. Right.
- 22:50Because everybody got more time for be.
- 22:51Absolutely. Absolutely and minutes from a
- 22:54hammock from a mental and coaching standpoint.
- 22:58Yeah, 100% honey but not only that but that in the future it's
- 23:03the professionals would have had more time to get into the swing
- 23:09of their season like they're after, you know Governor I hear
- 23:13you but shame on you for saying that.
- 23:20Want to talk about the professional coaches and of
- 23:22college, coaches aren't professional that.
- 23:27I get paid to coach track and field.
- 23:29Second of all, for those who want to get up on the there so
- 23:32boxes and they I'm a professional coach and I don't
- 23:35like then, that's your job. So I don't come to me and talk
- 23:39about I needed two or three more weeks, you knew when the meat
- 23:42was two years ago, right? Yeah.
- 23:45Sorry. You as a professional coach
- 23:47can't get your athletes ready. Two years, you're not very
- 23:50professional. That's all shame on you for
- 23:52saying that I you know like literally going to start next
- 24:06week. Yeah, right let's call it what
- 24:08it is. Just like a professional
- 24:16athlete. Right.
- 24:17Okay. The win Worlds.
- 24:22Absolutely, absolutely. The more medals Allyson Felix as
- 24:29we talked about forever not by me and I Muhammad SAS
- 24:49Help the helped those who are least experienced at absolutely.
- 24:54That's not I'm not disregarding tremendously and I'm not saying
- 24:57that I'm not saying it wouldn't have the exact same turn out if
- 25:00the meat was two weeks from now, you know, in Africa.
- 25:03I just know it would have been a more difficult coaching task.
- 25:07I have a question because I know the mayor wants to jump all into
- 25:10this because he's about to fall out of, JeJu.
- 25:12Okay, so my question to you guys, is this the number of
- 25:17professional cook? Coaches on this continent.
- 25:21They got it wrong in three weeks.
- 25:24I mean, absolutely, absolutely, okay, because there was a lot
- 25:28more professional coaches, got it wrong, then, Collegiate,
- 25:31coaches and God. So what do we treat me that to
- 25:35we found out? There's two sides, because we
- 25:37don't, we don't give those same coaches, three more weeks.
- 25:40We found out of that coin. The Collegiate coaches.
- 25:46Might struggle to go further in the season.
- 25:49And a great number of the professional coaches struggled
- 25:52with the three week window. I was thinking.
- 25:56Okay, so let's back it up though.
- 25:57My point on this that gets skipped over.
- 26:00Is that forget the professional Bridge Collegiate?
- 26:03Let's talk about seasons and what came to show is.
- 26:08It's not the three weeks, it's the six to eight weeks prior to
- 26:12the six to eight weeks prior to the Collegiate.
- 26:14Athlete has raised thirty times high level, you know, depending
- 26:19on your level where you're coming from your racing racing
- 26:22racing professional. And I agree.
- 26:24Mr. Lucius, haven't done this for a long time.
- 26:27It is you know, your job to get it done, but it is really hard
- 26:31and track and field. When one year, you're going to
- 26:34have five weeks in Mac. The next year, you're going to
- 26:37have three and then you are championships.
- 26:41And the nun and in three weeks and worlds, and it was fun
- 26:45having it here, but it's hard when it's early because
- 26:47professional truly, truly, professional, athletes, had less
- 26:50racing opportunities and I get there, call it the job That
- 26:55factors into a lot of it. They throw some coaches off
- 26:58because they're used to have in their nine races headed into a
- 27:01major, but isn't the key phrase there.
- 27:04Some because we have had this discussion a lot of time going
- 27:10this, this, this panel those who can do.
- 27:15Yes. The guys who can coach the
- 27:17ladies? Who can coach they figured out -
- 27:20no. I'm so what about the athlete?
- 27:24Well that K1 S as the coach that's my job, you know.
- 27:27Like you know, like I have been browbeaten by Lamar million
- 27:30times whenever he hears me say that was my fault, I need to
- 27:36coach he or she better. Right?
- 27:40So as the coach, it's my job to figure out what my athlete
- 27:42needs. And I know that, you know, this
- 27:45because you happen to be related to God, that might be the best
- 27:49ever figure it out, right? So that's my point is like,
- 27:52okay, the problem here is the skill set, the mindset of said
- 27:56coach or said athlete but if, you know, I guess maybe I'm a
- 28:01planner right. So if you give me a 12 month
- 28:05window window to plan a figure something out.
- 28:08All right. I'm going to do it now.
- 28:10I'm gonna take my guy for an example, right?
- 28:13Grant race once before we went to the world and obviously he
- 28:16was, he had to buy, right? So he race In New York and he
- 28:21raced in at the trials, right? But like we set things up and
- 28:26training, we set things up to model, what we needed to get
- 28:30done. Right?
- 28:32And I again, I know that, you know, this because the same guy
- 28:37that taught you help teach me, right?
- 28:41So, all I'm saying, is like we are very good at giving people
- 28:45passes, okay? Do your job because I don't do
- 28:48look, we go to the NCAA me and I'm from 25th and 30th in the
- 28:52country freaking for years and wrote it because for my job.
- 28:55Oh, and that listen, that's so that's really my issue because
- 28:58there's a whole lot of passes. Better that are out right now,
- 29:04and, you know, let me shoot last Brahman.
- 29:07Got it done, right? John Smith is in year.
- 29:11One with tyloo. He was getting scorched in the
- 29:15internet world with how bad she looked all year.
- 29:18And then she showed up made the final and looked fantastic.
- 29:22I walk up to him and I'll add I grabbed him.
- 29:25I put my hand on her shoulder. I say I want you to remember
- 29:28this day because I'm going to remind you a year for Now they
- 29:32were talking crap to you because they're going to regret it.
- 29:34He goes you know, you know, they will write a lot.
- 29:45Yeah. I'm just saying anything to
- 29:48like, okay. Like for me, I just want
- 29:52everybody to be accountable for doing their job, because there's
- 29:55a lot of these professional coaches that have these large
- 29:59groups of people that have one or two people running.
- 30:02And I've had this discussion with agents and would shoe
- 30:05companies, you guys keep trying to recreate Santa Monica and you
- 30:10keep trying to recreate HSI. Okay?
- 30:13With HSI came to attract me. And I know this because I'm not
- 30:16talking about what I heard. I'm talking about what I
- 30:18witnessed with my own eyes, everybody got off the plane and
- 30:22got it done. Right.
- 30:24Well, Santa Monica was that their Heyday?
- 30:26Everybody got it done. So we have to quit giving people
- 30:28passes for having one or two people run well when they got 30
- 30:32people in the group. So I think that feeds back into
- 30:36your professional conversation, about it speaking specifically
- 30:41to those that are going to listen to this, the
- 30:44professionalism of it all. How can I put this cleanly
- 30:48without offending? Folks, make better.
- 30:50You can you can, you can't I know but make sure you are.
- 30:53Something, if you try and we don't call ourselves with that
- 30:57here, you're already, I already know.
- 30:58You guys, aren't ya, make better decisions, not comfortable ones.
- 31:04And there's a lot of athletes that made comfortable decisions,
- 31:07and your suffering for it. I'm talking to you, you're
- 31:10suffering for. You didn't do your research, you
- 31:13cause your friends, they told you about the coach of made him
- 31:16feel good, or the coach had had success with sad athlete etc.
- 31:19Etc. Or the place.
- 31:20That wasn't so expensive, that's a personal shopper.
- 31:23Me because you've been too many athletes over the decades,
- 31:27didn't want to move to LA because they said it was too
- 31:29expensive and professionally in their careers or suffered for.
- 31:34And it's not to say that moving to La would have solved all
- 31:37their problems. But when something is, people
- 31:40went Lamar went to where he was going to be successful Clyde.
- 31:46Leary transfer schools to be successful.
- 31:48The governor already know. He chases success where he
- 31:51needed to go and write. On the professional level.
- 31:55There's a lot of athletes that are complaining that you don't
- 31:59want to leave home at all and you want to live somewhere where
- 32:04you can stretch a dollar and Lamar said it earlier on a
- 32:07different topic. Don't chase the money.
- 32:09You chasing success, you'll get paid.
- 32:11And I think that feeds into the conversation about the, the old,
- 32:16the great conversation, what makes a professional track
- 32:18athlete. I mean that's a hard answer but
- 32:20that's part of a huge part of it.
- 32:23You know, some athletes are suffering for right now because
- 32:26you didn't perform in a matter. The most you didn't reach a
- 32:28contract then when you didn't perform and said, said company,
- 32:33does cutting your checks as yeah.
- 32:35I'm catching your check. You said that I'm, you know
- 32:40what? I was just going to say so I
- 32:45wasn't going to go here, but but the unfortunate part is that you
- 32:48like, literally you drag me here.
- 32:51I, I completely agree. What you're saying, but I have a
- 32:56problem with the other group, the group that didn't want to
- 33:00leave, because they knew that what they had where they had, it
- 33:04was what they needed to be successful, but the shoe company
- 33:07moved them her and the shoe company moved them.
- 33:12And then it didn't work out. And everybody shoe company
- 33:17coach. Everybody is just basically
- 33:20doing like this. That's your fault like you were
- 33:22supposed to make it work and it's like, okay, but I didn't
- 33:24want to come here in the first place, right?
- 33:27But they said, I make this much money if I stay, and I make this
- 33:30much money if I go. So that's not a choice, right?
- 33:34Right. And and like, and the
- 33:35unfortunate part is like that group is cannon fodder.
- 33:40That happens in our sport there there there there casualties of
- 33:43War so to speak like the Shuka, the the sport is not
- 33:48professional. So it play it pays basically
- 33:51slave to the shook up, the whims of the shoe companies are shoe
- 33:55companies do what's in their best interest and they move
- 34:00kids, you know, they move young people to one of three places
- 34:04and then when it doesn't work out, There's no, there's no
- 34:08accountability for them, right at no point in time.
- 34:11Does the Shoe Company, say, well, that's on us because we
- 34:14moved you and this situation isn't a good one, right?
- 34:18They say You're supposed to be a professional.
- 34:21You go with like you don't get to play for the Denver Nuggets
- 34:24then and and live in North Carolina.
- 34:26So go do what you got to do. But this thing the team sport is
- 34:31an individual Sport and there When you compete, you compete
- 34:37individually? Yeah.
- 34:39So the thing that I will say this to every young athlete
- 34:43who's watching or somebody, who knows the young athlete, who
- 34:46needs to hear this, make the decisions that are absolutely
- 34:49positively in your heart and in your mind, the best decisions
- 34:52for you not too comfortable ones.
- 34:54I agree with you completely, but make the best decisions, make an
- 34:58adult decision and do what you got to do.
- 35:01And look if the shoe company that that you're trying to sign,
- 35:04With says, you got to move to be successful, maybe that's not the
- 35:08shoe company. You need to be with And I and
- 35:12I'll just, I'll throw this in here.
- 35:13We can move on to something else because I think, well, I'll
- 35:18speak for myself. I'm offended by the notion that
- 35:23person X is not a quote professional coach because they
- 35:28have a actual salary from a university.
- 35:32I've been told that directly I know people have said that about
- 35:37Sir Lucius. We talked about last week The
- 35:40last I checked lucious had more athletes in the meat and spent
- 35:44more time coaching than anybody else more than a few combined.
- 35:48And I'm like, so let me get this straight.
- 35:51I get paid to coach athletes, but I'm not a professional.
- 35:56And you professional people get paid differently to coach
- 36:01athletes. And when you screw it up, that's
- 36:03supposed to be. All right.
- 36:05Like that doesn't make any sense to me.
- 36:07So, last I checked in with Her profession, you're in.
- 36:11If you get paid to do the job, you're a professional.
- 36:14So why is there some kind of segregation if you will between,
- 36:20who's cutting the checks and how we get delineate it, as
- 36:23professional versus not that makes absolutely no sense to me
- 36:27and it actually is quite offensive.
- 36:32Got it. There are no Holcomb complete
- 36:35differently when we started that conversation.
- 36:38That's okay. Because a lot was said in a lot
- 36:39was Unreal. What we do choose?
- 36:41What we did sort of this I know. Right?
- 36:43So all right lane 2. Considered a thing, Britain and
- 36:52a bee attack the world record from 1988, which was 315 17 next
- 36:58year. So again, that's, it's different
- 37:01for all we just saw Sid. I thing, Britain and Audi Okay,
- 37:08one is still still class answer before.
- 37:10He says, it depends depends on the order.
- 37:15Well yes, it absolutely depends on comes back to what we were
- 37:30just talking about. Do those four, women have the
- 37:32talent to take down that record? Absolutely, absolutely.
- 37:36But it's going to be about what their careers look like moving
- 37:41forward. Yes, right.
- 37:44Like, Sid at He too is the most established and the most
- 37:48successful right now. She's so bored with her primary
- 37:51event. She's going to go on to the next
- 37:53thing, right? So ain't nobody worried about
- 37:55Sid. But what's Abby's life going to
- 37:58look like? Now, moving forward as a pro.
- 38:01A rookie Pro is written turning pro or is she going back to
- 38:06Arkansas? A thing is seems to be solid and
- 38:10on the same type of track as as it has been on, right?
- 38:15She's got back-to-back Gold's World in Olympics.
- 38:18Hmm. But is she gonna be ready to be
- 38:21the low 48 High 47 girl that she probably needs to be for that
- 38:25record to go for a 4x4. That's not what she get paid to
- 38:28do. Right?
- 38:29Yeah. So do they have the talent?
- 38:30Absolutely. But it's much more about what
- 38:32order they're going to run in and what the two youngest ones
- 38:37are looking like as rookies, because it's a totally different
- 38:40game next year for those two, so, I like the question but I
- 38:48feel like a pigeon holes us a little bit because there's a,
- 38:51there's, an assumption made there.
- 38:53The assumption is that that's the best for, and I'll say this.
- 39:00You are terrible Assumption of anything here.
- 39:15More beautiful, people can break this record and here you come
- 39:19walk around the block. Hey, we didn't put those legs in
- 39:22there. That's the names that were
- 39:24thrown to challenge the record. That's the question because
- 39:40another group of people just ran 317, so of course they can
- 39:44challenge the record. No question.
- 39:45About it. But this is America.
- 39:47We don't challenge account and question.
- 39:49Clearly needs to be yes we can't do a yes and and maybe that's
- 39:54what I wanted to do in the first place.
- 39:56But yes, but the question changes it back all I'm saying
- 40:06is this I don't think there's any doubt that they can
- 40:10challenge the record. But I will say this about this
- 40:13record as I have about the men's four by four.
- 40:16Difficulty is not in having the talent to do so.
- 40:21Because the team that has the record was chasing the line by
- 40:25loading the room. 315. Yep.
- 40:28The difficulty you have in this is at this stage of the world
- 40:34landscape we live in. Even if you put the right for
- 40:38and they run the right order, two and a half.
- 40:42Almost three legs are going to have to do those things by their
- 40:46Lonesome. Yes amended.
- 40:48Yeah. And that is incredibly
- 40:50difficult. So this this is why this is why
- 40:55like, I feel we are missing out on.
- 40:58So many 3430 classic shows like that men's four by four, when
- 41:08you, when you hear about what happened, behind the scenes and
- 41:12the conversations they had amongst themselves to go out and
- 41:18do what they did. Those are the kind of
- 41:20conversations the Woman's four by one.
- 41:24When you hear about what happened prior to that, these
- 41:27are stories that have to be told like this, these this current
- 41:32generation has to understand like it's deeper than just
- 41:36winning the gold is deeper than just like those for when you
- 41:40talk about those quartets. They had some real conversations
- 41:46and they had some real Challenge and it wasn't necessarily
- 41:49pretty. But the other understanding was,
- 41:52are we gonna do this or not? Are we going to go out there and
- 41:56do this or not? Okay.
- 41:58Right. And I would love for these
- 42:00stories to be told I will say this out of those four, the
- 42:04question mark that I would have is a we talking about a be doing
- 42:09the same volume of work. Is she just did this year?
- 42:14Like that's. That would be the only question
- 42:16mark. I would have about this.
- 42:18I think it's physically impossible for a female.
- 42:21Professional Sprinter to run 57 race.
- 42:23Funny. Well, there's you answering my
- 42:25question. Like, I don't think they're
- 42:27fifty Seven races available on the two or the to and both
- 42:41relays. Yes,
- 43:06that's 2.5 and you're there. Rip troop.
- 43:13And now you're just running in the breeze on.
- 43:14Anchor leg. Just like exactly.
- 43:16Let's go see going on 47. No matter what kind of leagues
- 43:18he has, right? What do you got?
- 43:22I think, how far I want to dig down this Rabbit Hole those for
- 43:27can fish or do it. I think missing the competition
- 43:31is actually the problem period. Sydney just went out there and
- 43:34played 47 and I was predicted, she's gonna go 4690, just had to
- 43:39her Legend just cuz And coming off the turn, I was like, yep,
- 43:43he's about to do it but everyone else, you know, the question
- 43:48about a be a professional season with her Fitness level and her
- 43:52foundation, is she showed not having to run 57 races and
- 43:56thinks she runs fast. Honestly, she just proven the
- 44:01fact, but I think they need the competition which leads me to
- 44:05attend Central issue of, I think World Championships needs to be
- 44:08restructured. It's not the Olympics and What
- 44:11is it that Waf now? I think we change the name of
- 44:14it. They need to change the
- 44:16qualification standards in the rules because honestly the
- 44:19competitions there. It's just all in the same
- 44:21uniform we could put two teams on the track you never could
- 44:24ago. That record will go.
- 44:28You put two Americans know, God or what?
- 44:33We'd literally left for girls. On the side.
- 44:36They can easily drive at least their losses.
- 44:38You don't you don't think we could produce the world record
- 44:40and a 3/16 317 team behind them. I do.
- 44:56Second and 45 and be who would team a.
- 44:59Oh my God you're gonna help me out with my you know I'm well as
- 45:03we can't help you out because, you know, for sure.
- 45:06Yeah, I think of you conc, if you gonna come at me with this
- 45:10dalila for sure, the Lillet Elite the digs here and somebody
- 45:16okay. So first of all, those four
- 45:18people cannot be. Those four people.
- 45:21I didn't know. Okay, I will give you guys this
- 45:57if they all show up in absolute Peak form.
- 46:01Okay, yeah and world's, yeah. So wait says, we're way down the
- 46:06floor. Decal rabbit hole right now
- 46:07solution. So here we go, here we go. 50.50
- 46:12point across, the board is 320, yes, sir, 49 49 across the
- 46:18board's, 316, you're telling me that the B team, we don't have
- 46:23for women that can give us 49 point splits.
- 46:27Course we do. We didn't have a female in the
- 46:30freakin final of the 400 but all of that but we put no matter,
- 46:34but wait a minute. But we know.
- 46:36Talitha can run 49, she's done it.
- 46:38Oh sorry forthe name is Kendall Ellis Kendall for sure has
- 46:42proven she can do that. Waddling Jonathan's has done
- 46:44that. Oh boy even Rogers.
- 46:47Ray Vaughan. I am going to be.
- 46:49I am going to plead but we call it the fifth or something cause
- 46:54you're not going to Down this rabbit hole.
- 47:26They push me here. I was trying to be good.
- 47:28I tried to plead the fifth. Okay, did you not watch?
- 47:32Kindle Ellis? 150. 26, what are shearing?
- 47:35Only 51 seconds. Yeah.
- 47:41And John says, Walk Off The Track.
- 47:44Yeah, sir. All I will grasping at straws,
- 47:47the mayor speak for himself. All I'm saying is this last I
- 47:53checked the silver medal position at this at this world
- 47:57championship was higher than 320.
- 48:00I don't like you Yeah,
- 48:27the question was not. Do we have the two best for you?
- 48:58We all know that shoe companies tend to give sprinters big money
- 49:04to run, 100, right? So so here's what I'm going to
- 49:09say. The expectation is going to be
- 49:11the Abby attempts to make every team in the 100 and the 200 when
- 49:15we agree, like I don't think they paid or seven hundred grand
- 49:19to be the 200 Specialists who runs both relays.
- 49:24But let's be clear. That's what her career should
- 49:29be. She should be a 200-meter
- 49:33specialist. Who runs on both relays Allyson
- 49:36Felix, because the only other human being to do what we are.
- 49:41Now, quote, unquote asking a be to do, was Flo-Jo in eighty
- 49:45eight hundred, two hundred 4 by 1, 4, by 4.
- 49:51And we're not going to go down that rabbit hole.
- 49:54Do you want to throw Marion in there?
- 49:56Do you want you wanna do this? Oh, oh God.
- 50:30Let's be clear and so lucious and I, we've done deep dives
- 50:33into this and talked about this. The Europeans control our Sport
- 50:39and they manipulate what they can manipulate to level the
- 50:42playing field as much as they can.
- 50:44It was not coincidental that the 800 was an hour and 25 minutes
- 50:48or whatever before the 4 by 4. Okay, so let's not look, let's
- 50:54not lean real, heavy into the thing mode on the split thing
- 50:57either because that schedules probably not changing for the
- 51:00better for us either. Okay, so and I totally agree
- 51:05with that, and I thank you for saying that, and I want to say
- 51:09this and I mean, it's like I understand where you guys are
- 51:13going. If everybody shows up in Peak
- 51:17condition at their absolute best, in their Bull of doing.
- 51:22We have two teams that can run 350, you're right.
- 51:24Yes. But I am going to put a
- 51:26challenge out there and include myself within this challenge,
- 51:30ladies and gentlemen, and the United States of America, we
- 51:33must do better with doing this work, because we are not good.
- 51:36Right? We must do better.
- 51:41That's much better. Agreed.
- 51:44Agreed, please. Hey, but you know what?
- 51:47I will say this so far. I mean, look the, the American
- 51:54men had the worst speed and power Olympics ever had a year
- 52:01ago and we rebound to have the best world championships we've
- 52:05ever had, right? So I guess maybe, I'll say that.
- 52:08There's hope, right? That that they will take your
- 52:12challenge and the overall Global challenge that we got to go home
- 52:16and get get, right? Because we didn't win a medal in
- 52:18the women's 100 or 200 or 100 hurdles.
- 52:23Listen. The the most interesting thing
- 52:25about the the debate that we actually had is that the women
- 52:30who were thrown to us for this question, not one of them is a
- 52:32400-meter run. So the right the idea that
- 52:37that's the question just makes Lucius points of yes 100%.
- 52:44Of course, I'm just because just because be clear, the B-Team
- 52:48isn't all quarter miles in there, right?
- 52:51No BT. 18 only has one of them on there, so hey it is what it
- 52:58is, right? I need to be running the for
- 53:16where y'all out here and it tastes fairy tale.
- 53:20I'm running 100, there's only one Frank Hurley.
- 53:23Some young, I used to, I used to tell a lot of fact, if you find
- 53:30a sub 50 quarter mile, ER, they're also sub 11 and sep 22,
- 53:352013 6, historic more so than the men that's why the man is
- 53:39such a big deal right now because it's a new thing women
- 53:43need to pay attention. When Torrance would randomly
- 53:46jump into a 4 out of the blocks in the middle of her season and
- 53:49drops 4970 walk off, and that's when 49-7 was smoking fast.
- 53:54When did you turn around? 21 7 and 10 8, didn't didn't she
- 53:58lead off the u.s. relay in 48 when you believe.
- 54:02So it was the same in the same year to Michael split 42 now.
- 54:0791. So yes, um yeah, I need to go
- 54:12ahead, suck it up, move on up, get your money, but if you're
- 54:19going to move up, be coached by an appropriate test, all right,
- 54:28that's good Lane. Three with the addition of the
- 54:35mixed 4 by 4, which we know is going.
- 54:37To stay, which one individual event track.
- 54:40And then field, would you lose from the typical schedule?
- 54:44So, none of this mythical events.
- 54:50So one track event, one field event, which we do away with
- 54:55With the addition of the mixed 4x4, keep the mix 4x4.
- 55:00Like I love this question, but I'm appalled that somewhere.
- 55:03The question is swallowing is here to stay when we drop but
- 55:08you move out of the schedule now that the Mix 4 by 4 is here to
- 55:12stay. Yeah.
- 55:13Man and woman 50k race walk done.
- 55:19I mean, that's why I said the typical.
- 55:23I was kidding because I know that. track on the like,
- 55:26actually in the arena try and You know, like I don't know why
- 55:52we have to do subtraction because we added something
- 55:56right? All right and that's how I so
- 55:58look that's just me. I'm not subtracting anything and
- 56:02anybody is anybody you even open your mouth and say you're going
- 56:05to take out it's going to be absolutely appalled at the idea
- 56:10to start punching people. Tell you this right now and then
- 56:31and then literally, like, take 30 minutes, clear your brain,
- 56:34right? Like make it like ginger, you
- 56:35clean your palette and then watch any any iteration of track
- 56:39and field service to us in the United States.
- 56:42You're like that's not the same sport.
- 56:43Yeah, exactly. Right.
- 56:45So at the end of the day, it's there's nothing wrong with the
- 56:47sport. It's not even too
- 56:48time-consuming. It's just package.
- 56:51Terribly and lazily in this country, right?
- 56:55Like the 3-ring circus is what makes the sport, awesome, right?
- 56:59But we were all sitting, look. We were sitting in the stadium
- 57:03at Worlds, trying to figure out why we had such big time gaps.
- 57:07Yes. Absolutely.
- 57:11I mean, and this is the other part Lamar like the its Rhythm
- 57:17like get some sort of Rhythm, if And as you said to pile on to
- 57:22what you just said, if you do have the pleasure of watching a
- 57:26meet in Europe on TV, it is moving, moving moving moving.
- 57:32As soon as he bends over there is no break.
- 57:35It is on to the next on to the next and you are enjoying the
- 57:40meet. You are in it.
- 57:42Your heart rates, is is here. It never really comes down
- 57:46because they show you the whole 5K without showing you the whole
- 57:495K. They show you, they show you the
- 57:52beginning. It show you the intricate moves
- 57:54in the middle and they show you the last two laps.
- 57:56You said the whole thing and then you watching the jumps and
- 58:00the Vault and you watching the throws and and all this stuff is
- 58:03happening. So they're basically recreating
- 58:06what you see when you're in the stands right on TV.
- 58:11We still have not figured that out on this part of the this,
- 58:15this side of the water. We just have I don't think that
- 58:19it's even a necessary. I don't think it's even that we
- 58:22haven't figured it out. I just don't think we care to
- 58:25and this the existence of this question again is offensive and
- 58:31I really, really really load the people that say things like this
- 58:38who are inside our sport because there are coaches that believe
- 58:42event. X y&z should be cut.
- 58:44There are administrators who believe that there are right.
- 58:48Hers, who never pay attention to our sport until there's an
- 58:51Olympics or world championship and then come with these
- 58:54opinions, like oh, it'd be so much cooler.
- 58:56If you took out the 10K or whatever the hell you want to
- 58:58take out there is no event. That doesn't have a purpose.
- 59:02I don't enjoy, I don't like the mix relay, but when they
- 59:06invented it, I said it's a cool gimmick that people will find
- 59:09entertaining. The only thing that's currently
- 59:12wrong with the mixed relay is you is you took out the coolest
- 59:15thing about it, which was strategy.
- 59:18She when it first came in the coaches and we all know, we got
- 59:21issues with coaches. Got to choose man, woman,
- 59:24whatever leg you want, right? Go figure it out.
- 59:27That was really interesting. The fact that they've watered it
- 59:30down and said, nope, the men are going to run against the men and
- 59:32the women are going to run against the women.
- 59:33Make it less interesting, but but I died much less, but I
- 59:37digress, there's nothing there's no event that needs to go.
- 59:41The media people and entertainment people.
- 59:44You know, the people get paid do entertainment business in this
- 59:48nation, need to do a better job of the path of the package.
- 59:52That's absolutely true. The only criticism that I have
- 59:55from my experience as a spectator at world was the
- 59:58downtime. And here's the crazy thing about
- 1:00:00the downtime everybody that talks this nonsense about the
- 1:00:03time consumption of our sport from a viewing standpoint.
- 1:00:06What do they all say? We need a to our package.
- 1:00:09Well shit. Every evening session was
- 1:00:12exactly that. It was two hours.
- 1:00:14I guess what? I was sitting around in between
- 1:00:16events, way too long waiting on the next thing to happen, the DJ
- 1:00:20was cute and all. But no like so.
- 1:00:24So here's some. Here's a question for you client
- 1:00:27answer. Lucius, and Lamar and big league
- 1:00:29and mayor that you all of you were there, right?
- 1:00:33Could the meat of been done in six days, 100% equipment
- 1:00:37hundred. Put it have been as much of a
- 1:00:39strain on the air. Leads or whatever.
- 1:00:41Been. Okay, do you think the schedule
- 1:00:44could have been condensed morning sessions, or how, how,
- 1:00:49how could you have made the actual event less than 10 days?
- 1:00:54Oh, easy word. First woman, there was no excuse
- 1:00:58and it was actually detrimental and all of us watched the 400
- 1:01:03men. I'm with somebody in a room.
- 1:01:07Felt really really good about those rest days.
- 1:01:11Coaches and athletes did not feel really, really good about
- 1:01:14running the race didn't around for two days, running another
- 1:01:19race sit around for another day and run another race.
- 1:01:24There's a reason why the, for the four by fours release on the
- 1:01:27men's side. For the court of Auditors,
- 1:01:30actually looked like better runs for them because they finally
- 1:01:33got to establish a rhythm. And you said that earlier
- 1:01:36Governor. They got to establish a rhythm.
- 1:01:39Do you want to run them, right? Into the ground know, you don't
- 1:01:42want to do a. We did years ago and under
- 1:01:44forget I went over this they took a back and round for
- 1:01:48Rounds. They took the highs and ran one
- 1:01:50around today for three days. Yes, I remember first seeing it
- 1:01:53going. Oh, finally some rest and Alan
- 1:01:56said, this is terrible and it's it's almost that wasn't
- 1:01:58terrible. He said, bro, I got for racism
- 1:02:01for days. He had say hey look who's like,
- 1:02:04say less as we say but to your point about the scheduling, of
- 1:02:08course, we have to stop it for Clyde your point about the to
- 1:02:12our package in the evenings and World temperatures have been
- 1:02:15making this mistake for years. The problem we got two hours and
- 1:02:20I remember going to the Olympics and World same way, it was for
- 1:02:25races and one final. Yeah.
- 1:02:29What are we doing? And then you think to yourself,
- 1:02:32we all want to make money. We all want to up the ante in
- 1:02:35the sport. So we're like, okay, TVs
- 1:02:37dictating this as cool. But then you go and watch a TV.
- 1:02:40Package and in between races, they're not showing you the
- 1:02:44dribble-drive long jump. The disc is the high jump.
- 1:02:47They're going to commercial this showing you.
- 1:02:49Hey let's go talk to Sir Lucius back in Gainesville, which we
- 1:02:52actually found back in January and show this of Peace for 20
- 1:02:58minutes and go back to Commercial.
- 1:03:00And then they want to tease you. Oh, and Chris happens going to
- 1:03:03run at 1500 to enter decathlon. Well, he's actually throwing a
- 1:03:06javelin right now. You got to show that.
- 1:03:08Yeah, but you don't, so it does definitely come down the
- 1:03:12packaging because we've all been to Crystal Palace is the best
- 1:03:15produced television mean, I've ever seen in my life.
- 1:03:19I managed to watch it mean for two hours.
- 1:03:22I got to watch our gurus Challenger world record.
- 1:03:24And at the same time in this two-hour window, they actually
- 1:03:27told the public what the long jump was in a real quick segment
- 1:03:33from the field, a field reporter.
- 1:03:35So it is definitely packaging and presentation and down times
- 1:03:40you can have the gun One of the TV we want to be, we want to
- 1:03:42give how much time. How much time was there between
- 1:03:46the rounds, right? Woodrow, I can tell you.
- 1:03:51It was the all of the call room times were spent were spread out
- 1:04:02by exactly. Eight minutes.
- 1:04:04Yeah, and actually shorter used to be, it was 10 for years.
- 1:04:08It was dead for years. I mean, you know, there was a
- 1:04:13lot of downtime like you. The question that the governor
- 1:04:18threw out there was what would be the effects if you shut it?
- 1:04:21You know, close it, six days. Well some people would have to
- 1:04:24make some different choices and that's and that's all in the
- 1:04:27game, right? Like maybe you can't do the one
- 1:04:29two, double, if the whole meet start to finish the six days and
- 1:04:34you know that it is what it is, right?
- 1:04:36But that's why you make choices. Why your professional?
- 1:04:39That's why you got to coach the way you coached the, the most
- 1:04:43egregious stretch that they did, which is what the row was just
- 1:04:46losing team in the 400-meter thing.
- 1:04:47And why did they do that to make freely mix relay?
- 1:04:51Could get the better people on the track for the other
- 1:04:56countries? Not an antique USA and it
- 1:04:58worked. I mean, listen, Ava structure,
- 1:05:00the rules in the real 4x4, you can run for women in the prelim
- 1:05:04and bring four new girls out for the final button.
- 1:05:07Yes, relay You have to keep three of the four from the
- 1:05:10first, from the qualifying round.
- 1:05:12All that is about is getting Paulino and Bowl on track to run
- 1:05:17down the c-team Americans, right?
- 1:05:19Like that's what it's for and that's fine but they screwed up
- 1:05:24the open for the Open for men. In the open for women were
- 1:05:27lackluster finals rides. They were the lamest races in
- 1:05:31the me. Cuz some of those individuals
- 1:05:34ran six races in. WoW.
- 1:05:40I mean, look, if the meat was seven days, you could do the
- 1:05:44one, two, double with a day off in the middle.
- 1:05:48That's what they did. Anyway.
- 1:05:55Gasps. Oh my God.
- 1:05:57Thirteen or fourteen World Championships were done with 4
- 1:06:04oz. Yeah.
- 1:06:05And don't get me started on the Olympic schedule, which had
- 1:06:09finals. In the morning sessions.
- 1:06:11I don't want to see the finals in the morning sessions.
- 1:06:14That's ridiculous. No.
- 1:06:46Hey, I know. All right, in keeping time, I'm
- 1:06:52going to move us on to, would you rather and it's something
- 1:06:55we're coming back because we've taken a couple weeks off but so
- 1:06:59lucious Europe, sir. I was like I hope this chased
- 1:07:05his face changes because you did so mayor.
- 1:07:09I just want to warn you when that whenever I'm on this I get
- 1:07:13the most suspect questions in the history of man.
- 1:07:16I don't know. Taking it out.
- 1:07:36It's definitely not one absolute Solutions.
- 1:07:43Are you ready sir? Yes.
- 1:07:45Ma'am. I am.
- 1:07:46All right. Would you rather team up with
- 1:07:48Batman or Superman? Oh, super got it.
- 1:07:55Would you rather be chronically overdressed or underdressed?
- 1:08:00Honda. Would you rather lose your AC or
- 1:08:05lose your internet for the rest of your life?
- 1:08:10Internet. I deplore being hot.
- 1:08:13So this crap with the AC, I'm rocking with my AC.
- 1:08:32I'm not giving that up. Would you like your Gatorade
- 1:08:36dump, like, Your celebratory jump be substituted with maple
- 1:08:40syrup or chocolate sauce. The chocolate sauce.
- 1:09:06Are they gonna come out? He won't be a sticky.
- 1:09:13Would you rather always be 10 minutes late or 20 minutes?
- 1:09:16Early, twenty minutes early. Mmm, would you rather always
- 1:09:21drive in Reverse or ride a scooter everywhere?
- 1:09:26- Cooter every week. You do not want me driving
- 1:09:32anywhere backwards. I'm kind of here for lucious on
- 1:09:36the scooter. I was
- 1:09:53Oh, I know. Not be able to hold my head
- 1:09:59again now. So, would you rather not be able
- 1:10:01to hold your facial react or hide your facial reactions or
- 1:10:06not? Be able to hold your tongue.
- 1:10:07So either way, it's coming out. Which one is coming out first?
- 1:10:10Or is he like for me? Those are one in the same
- 1:10:11country. I'm waiting on the other
- 1:10:28question to be sent in the chat. Okay, sir, Lucius.
- 1:10:43Yes, I would you, rather, would you rather coach and athlete
- 1:10:47that won three World Championships and never meddled
- 1:10:53in any Olympics? Or an athlete that meddled in to
- 1:11:01Olympics. No, that's too easy.
- 1:11:03Meddled, in one Olympics, and never made the final in any
- 1:11:07World Championships. The ladder.
- 1:11:15The Olympic medal is more sort of person.
- 1:11:20So, in other words, you rather coach Elaine, literally, you
- 1:11:27know, there's some reason bigger ones, I mean like really laying
- 1:11:31one of the greatest careers ever, right?
- 1:11:35Would never. You know, he won't, he won world
- 1:11:38seems like six times. And then there's actual you have
- 1:11:44to, you have to return this book people, that great, that Greg is
- 1:11:48actually part of the conversation about.
- 1:11:50Yeah, go hard with, yeah, because it won't need to get the
- 1:11:53Olympics. It's almost Dvorak won three,
- 1:11:57World Championships, broke the world record, and never won an
- 1:12:00Olympics. And it's like, people forget
- 1:12:03like, how great he was like, Hey guys, in the conversation.
- 1:12:12All right. I don't want to be, I don't want
- 1:12:15to be mean to certain Lucius. But I feel like I feel like
- 1:12:21Lamar wants me to ask him this question.
- 1:12:23Oh, I do not even know what it is, but I definitely want you
- 1:12:26to. Would you rather?
- 1:12:30Would you rather be responsible for the American record at 200
- 1:12:35meters or the world record in the 110 hurts?
- 1:12:41Hey, it's not like you can't get Bo.
- 1:12:44That's what that's my answer. Yes, we know.
- 1:12:49I will put them in order of likely to happen.
- 1:12:52I, you know, clearly on closer to the world, we are closer to
- 1:12:58the world record in the 110. So I think that that would be,
- 1:13:03my first responsibility is to get that with, put the other one
- 1:13:07on Deck. That fair is fair.
- 1:13:13It's about a sphere of an answer as I thought you'd get okay.
- 1:13:21And where you're at? You're allowed to chime in on
- 1:13:23this, by the way. Yeah.
- 1:13:36I'm not giving up anything there.
- 1:13:42I'm still trying to too. I'm drawing a blank right now.
- 1:13:53I'm actually drawing a blank iPad.
- 1:13:56I don't have one that would be like sufficient ask that thing
- 1:14:02in the chat because I don't even fully understand it.
- 1:14:06Ask it. Ask it.
- 1:14:12Okay. Would you rather your blessings
- 1:14:14to be verbal or tangible? Wow.
- 1:14:20Wow. What's that?
- 1:14:21A bad? Cause I thought I would get
- 1:14:27spun. So I don't, I don't understand
- 1:14:30to mind in the gutter. That's all right.
- 1:14:32Yes. To that months and especially
- 1:14:42young people think. I'll get that one.
- 1:14:44But anyways, so I, you know, for me, I think.
- 1:14:49That's a tough one because verbal I don't, I'm not even
- 1:14:54sure what a verbal blessing is to be honest with you.
- 1:14:57You know and tangible blessings and I'm not a tangible.
- 1:15:06No I'm not a materialistic guy. You know I'm more my blessings
- 1:15:10come from. Me watching, others prosper from
- 1:15:15things that I'm able to contribute to.
- 1:15:17So I don't know if that's verbal or tangible for others but
- 1:15:20that's not either for me. So tangible thing, I tell people
- 1:15:24this all the time like you don't attach your sense to yourself,
- 1:15:29the tangible material things because those things can go
- 1:15:31away. You know I if I lose the car
- 1:15:35we've had like some damage to my car or a house or something like
- 1:15:38that. You can go get another one but
- 1:15:40you know the blessings that are are the people in your lives and
- 1:15:43that the way they touch you, or you touch them, those are things
- 1:15:46that maybe those are the tangible things.
- 1:15:47You talk about, you can't replace those things.
- 1:15:49So that wasn't a bad question at all.
- 1:15:52By the way that, you know, Our career track and field.
- 1:16:11Athlete ranked in the top. 10 for 15 years, never won a medal.
- 1:16:19or a one-hit wonder how the correct the career because I
- 1:16:26mean because the one-hit wonder soon as you call someone a one
- 1:16:30hit wonder that means that there's some issues surrounding
- 1:16:36so you don't get blamed for that one.
- 1:16:58Elevations, I'm talking about the one hit wonder, is using the
- 1:17:01person who has the issue drones distractions that the person
- 1:17:05that has the issues of hearing can try this one, you know?
- 1:17:09And I've dealt with these people, right?
- 1:17:11You know, we go have a good ear and then hey, you can't coach.
- 1:17:17Hey, it's the girl's back on my doorstep, three, that three
- 1:17:24years later but anyway, that's a different story.
- 1:17:26I won't go there. But at the end of the day, we
- 1:17:32all appreciate you choose, not so shady.
- 1:17:40What she should have believed you put that other question in
- 1:17:43there. Thank you to sort of.
- 1:17:51I want to ask another would you rather question?
- 1:17:53I just want to ask a real question.
- 1:17:56What? And this is not a shot at the
- 1:17:58two people who are currently have the job, I promise you.
- 1:18:00It is what would it take? For you to agree to be the
- 1:18:06official like nobody bothers you u.s. real a coach only in there
- 1:18:13it is. Nobody bothers me a name that
- 1:18:15that's all. I mean.
- 1:18:16See here's the thing with me with the relay thing, right?
- 1:18:20I'm not going to work well with a relay because I know what the
- 1:18:2440 to 50 letters of the alphabet and I know how to use it, right?
- 1:18:28And so therefore people don't want me in that position because
- 1:18:33they can't Me and believe me they can't call me.
- 1:18:36And threaten me because I'm the guy that says, hey, if you don't
- 1:18:40want to follow the rules then you got can't run real, are you
- 1:18:42girl? Come on Reba?
- 1:18:43Well, you know because at the end of the day when you stop and
- 1:18:47think about it, like that's the problem.
- 1:18:49We allow coaches and ages to illness people hostage, right?
- 1:18:54And I'm not going to be able to awesome It's just that something
- 1:18:58like I just said, there's no other answer
- 1:19:15for everybody thinks they figured this thing out.
- 1:19:17Listen of live. This thing or been through this
- 1:19:20thing to most successful relay coaches in this country's
- 1:19:25history of He's been decision-makers.
- 1:19:28If you try to please people, you will fail and it's been proven
- 1:19:32too many times. And I know, two coaches who made
- 1:19:36very unpopular decisions. And my group was on the wrong
- 1:19:40side or one of them, and that coach made me laugh.
- 1:19:44He literally came out told us to her face with his decision, was
- 1:19:48told us to our phase. Why he made the decision grabbed
- 1:19:52a chair. Walk down in the field.
- 1:19:55Sad it under the This is in Sydney, Lamar Saturday soccer,
- 1:20:01go and sadness chair. And his point was real simple.
- 1:20:05If you disagree come talk to me, but I doubt I'm changing my mind
- 1:20:11and we want to go and the rest was history.
- 1:20:14The other coach, we all know and love and he made his decisions.
- 1:20:18Even care what you, how you felt what she had to say.
- 1:20:21And he won the gold medal every year he was in charge.
- 1:20:24They had to create ways to get him out.
- 1:20:26Bye and what solution said is really simple.
- 1:20:30And I know people said I'm going to try and understand.
- 1:20:32Of course, I understand. You kidding, you, you're in
- 1:20:36charge of a bunch of different moving parts that you don't
- 1:20:39have. They're not your athletes.
- 1:20:42So you got to make a clean decisions and you move forward
- 1:20:45Win, Lose or Draw and that's the problem I think to lucian's to
- 1:20:48you're answering to people forgetting track.
- 1:20:51Yeah, there's pressure to womb but you got to make a decision
- 1:20:53one of the wrong and live with you.
- 1:20:57But I think it's wild and there was so much drama like in the
- 1:21:00end because at the end of the day, like listen, we all got to
- 1:21:03give I'm assuming it was Michelle's decision, but like
- 1:21:07look, every single one of us question.
- 1:21:09Maybe not question, like this is wrong, but we all questioned
- 1:21:13Jenna prandini running third leg.
- 1:21:15And they're only being one. Third leg in the whole damn
- 1:21:17camp. We all questioned that, right?
- 1:21:19That's the end of the day. History will show for sure.
- 1:21:24It was a genius move because we don't get out of the semis of
- 1:21:26Jenna. Prandini.
- 1:21:26Doesn't grab that young lady's head.
- 1:21:28Cook it on it, right? And that's why she was on the
- 1:21:31relay, right? Because she sat in in and in and
- 1:21:34in, and in it, that's not why she's on her way.
- 1:21:36That's why she needed to be able to really, but that's how
- 1:21:38there's no Melanie that's why that's why she needs to be one
- 1:21:45of those. We all questioned that decision
- 1:21:51And I guess I feel like it's like look if you can make that
- 1:21:54kind of decision which clearly wasn't popular in every Camp,
- 1:21:56right? Like make me get all the
- 1:21:59information, make a decision and stand and stand by it and it and
- 1:22:02then you'll be fine. Then you'd be fine and you can
- 1:22:06use that ability unpleasantly. Surprised that there are more
- 1:22:10Shenanigans involved with the 4x4 can.
- 1:22:13They're all wonderful. Yes, of course there is right
- 1:22:18because America is Entitled to those two gold medals.
- 1:22:23Mmm. I just want to make sure that
- 1:22:25mine is on there because that's going to give me a medal.
- 1:22:28And I'm headed to my medal count and because we can't mess this
- 1:22:31up, right? Like I mean, we almost won.
- 1:22:35We almost won the mix real a relay with as client calls at
- 1:22:38the c-team. So, like we've already discussed
- 1:22:40on this show that we got the, a team, and the B team in the
- 1:22:43world. So at the end of the day, like
- 1:22:46it don't matter, which for on the track, we're going to win.
- 1:22:50So let's just make it efficient, you're right, but I'm saying the
- 1:22:53men's the men's women's 4 by 4's, that that is what there's
- 1:22:56always going to be Shenanigans there.
- 1:22:58Because that's it. Look, that's Steve.
- 1:22:59That's the way you collect the medal, right?
- 1:23:02That's how you create gold medalists.
- 1:23:05Yeah. Well probably just sparked
- 1:23:10another conversation for another time but we'll leave that for
- 1:23:15the next episodes. So again sake of time gentlemen,
- 1:23:20thank you so much. The mayor, thank you so much for
- 1:23:24your time. Thanks for playing with us.
- 1:23:27Hope you enjoyed our sandbox. All the time is my guys love it.
- 1:23:34London's. Well, we had a chat with you
- 1:23:37cousin? Yes, I sure hope everyone has a
- 1:23:41good time. Gentleman on other continents.
- 1:23:43Be safe. Make sure to get home safe but
- 1:23:47otherwise, we'll see you soon. Bye, everyone.
- 1:23:53When the lights come on the road stick to running with the
- 1:23:56lights. Come on opponent.
- 1:23:57Smash the running. Would you like you all hot
- 1:24:00knife? Wouldn't be here but we have
- 1:24:24stopped raining. You got it under Stripes, gotta
- 1:24:27catch Stars. Show you how to fight for?
- 1:24:29Sure. So you are you lack experience,
- 1:24:32but still you want to tell and who is that you talk to you
- 1:24:34certain kind of small heads prevail when the backbone
- 1:24:38strong, gotta keep it coming up. Won't last long.
- 1:24:41That's a building sell the session and if you don't check
- 1:24:45yourself and that's wrong just trying to give you the real
- 1:24:48chance for. So why do you keep cutting us
- 1:24:51off to a small? We put it.
- 1:24:52In slow-mo. What you fast for athletics,
- 1:24:56task force.
