- 0:00Speaker 1: Tennis time!
- 0:02Speaker 2: Wow.
- 0:03Speaker 1: Look at us.
- 0:04Speaker 2: We are excited for tennis time.
- 0:07Speaker 1: I mean, there's so much tennis happening at the moment.
- 0:09Speaker 2: It's crazy.
- 0:10Speaker 1: Yeah, the Asian Swing, Beijing, Shanghai is coming up in
- 0:15Speaker 1: a thousand event. Obviously, the Tokyo.
- 0:17Speaker 2: Almaty.
- 0:19Speaker 1: Oh, yes.
- 0:19Speaker 2: Actually, I would love to go to that gig. Yeah. Gig.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I mean, tournament.
- 0:24Speaker 1: It's all a gig.
- 0:25Speaker 2: We were just talking about comedy. Gig is in my head.
- 0:27Speaker 1: No. Life is a stage, Lizzie.
- 0:30Speaker 2: It is. It is.
- 0:31Speaker 1: And we are the jesters.
- 0:32Speaker 2: We perform for you.
- 0:34Speaker 1: Do you ever have that moment on stage where you're like,
- 0:37Speaker 1: the hell am i doing.
- 0:41Speaker 2: Well we're going existential crisis already i had this moment
- 0:46Speaker 2: the other day where i got my like you know
- 0:49Speaker 2: it was the end of a long day and i
- 0:51Speaker 2: got my.
- 0:51Speaker 1: Uh pants and underwear on at the same time for
- 0:56Speaker 1: like pajama stuff you know like after a shower And
- 0:59Speaker 1: at the exact same time, two legs, you know, it
- 1:02Speaker 1: was beautiful. And then I was so proud of myself.
- 1:05Speaker 1: And then I thought, when my dad was my age,
- 1:07Speaker 1: he had a family, he had built a house.
- 1:09Speaker 2: Oh, yeah, yeah.
- 1:10Speaker 1: He was a doctor of note.
- 1:13Speaker 3: Yes.
- 1:13Speaker 1: A pillar of the community.
- 1:15Speaker 3: Oh, yeah.
- 1:15Speaker 1: And I got my pajama pants and underwear on at
- 1:18Speaker 1: the same time. It is hard to do.
- 1:23Speaker 2: Did you message your dad and be like, dad, this
- 1:25Speaker 2: is what I just did. I should have.
- 1:26Speaker 1: Are you proud of me, daddy? They were my nighttime
- 1:32Speaker 1: Spider-Man under Bruce.
- 1:34Speaker 2: And then I got into my car bed.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Race car bed is cool.
- 1:39Speaker 2: Yeah, very cool.
- 1:40Speaker 1: What would happen if you met a guy, everything was amazing,
- 1:43Speaker 1: you hit it off, and you're like, this is great,
- 1:46Speaker 1: you know? And then you got back to his place
- 1:49Speaker 1: and he had a single race car bed.
- 1:52Speaker 2: Oh, you would walk out the door. Would you?
- 1:54Speaker 1: Yeah. You're not getting into.
- 1:55Speaker 2: A race car bed unless it was like his kids
- 1:58Speaker 2: or something.
- 1:59Speaker 1: But the rest of the house, let's say he's a bachelor, right?
- 2:02Speaker 1: The rest of the house is a very nice penthouse apartment.
- 2:05Speaker 2: Okay.
- 2:05Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 2:05Speaker 1: And then he's like, all right, well, should we adjourn
- 2:08Speaker 1: to the boudoir? Vroom, vroom.
- 2:10Speaker 3: Vroom, vroom.
- 2:13Speaker 1: And then you get back there and it's a race car.
- 2:15Speaker 1: I don't know. Is that a deal breaker?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Well, you would have to, if you really liked him,
- 2:20Speaker 2: I guess you could work on getting a new bed.
- 2:22Speaker 2: I feel like that is fixable.
- 2:24Speaker 1: But what if he said, this is my one... Absolutely.
- 2:28Speaker 2: I have to have my race car bed. I mean,
- 2:31Speaker 2: I think there's probably some other things going on if
- 2:35Speaker 2: he's got a race car bed.
- 2:37Speaker 1: I think it's pretty cool.
- 2:38Speaker 2: He's probably putting his pants on at the same time
- 2:41Speaker 2: as his underwear.
- 2:45Speaker 1: So he's super cool?
- 2:46Speaker 2: Yeah, he's super cool. Wow. That's the stuff.
- 2:51Speaker 1: Oh, no way. Welcome back to Podlabor Arena with me,
- 2:55Speaker 1: Mike Goldstein, and my co-host with the mo-host. It's Lizzy Who.
- 3:01Speaker 2: Yeah, the mo-hoost.
- 3:02Speaker 1: Mo-hoost.
- 3:02Speaker 2: Mo-hoost.
- 3:03Speaker 1: This is Tennis News. Heaps to cover. Like, there's been
- 3:09Speaker 1: some big drama overnight.
- 3:12Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 3:13Speaker 1: I mean, I woke up. And saw this. I couldn't.
- 3:17Speaker 2: The last two days have been.
- 3:18Speaker 1: Yeah, have been drama filled.
- 3:20Speaker 2: Heavy jock.
- 3:21Speaker 1: Heavy, heavy Djokovic. And I got to say, I'm on
- 3:23Speaker 1: Djokovic's side on all the controversy that's been happening. Yeah.
- 3:28Speaker 1: I mean, he's in the right. Obviously, we'll start with
- 3:30Speaker 1: the most recent one. This is Medvedev disqualified for hitting
- 3:34Speaker 1: a fan with a tennis ball while Djokovic was serving
- 3:37Speaker 1: for the match. I watched most of the first set
- 3:40Speaker 1: of this and then had to go to bed as
- 3:42Speaker 1: we're recording early today. And I had to put my
- 3:45Speaker 1: pajama pants and my underwear on at the same time
- 3:48Speaker 1: and impress my wife. The first set was crazy, right?
- 3:51Speaker 1: It was like an hour and a half to play
- 3:53Speaker 1: one set. And Medvedev, Djokovic, just these long extended rallies.
- 3:57Speaker 1: Djokovic hunched over feeling his age and being mocked by Medvedev.
- 4:04Speaker 1: Did you see this?
- 4:04Speaker 2: No.
- 4:05Speaker 1: Medvedev was like, So Djokovic, end of a rally, and then... Oh,
- 4:12Speaker 1: my God.
- 4:13Speaker 2: But he's doing his Djokovic impression. He looks like an
- 4:16Speaker 2: old man.
- 4:16Speaker 1: Yeah. I mean, this is brutal stuff. Oh, my knees.
- 4:22Speaker 2: I'd like to see you at 39, Medvedev.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Yeah. Because, yeah, Djokovic feels it. Like, he's in the
- 4:27Speaker 1: wars out there, you know? He's just like... Any long rally,
- 4:33Speaker 1: he's really gasping for air. And he stumbles around a
- 4:37Speaker 1: little bit. So being mocked by your opponent.
- 4:39Speaker 2: Oh, that's so funny. Did Djokovic laugh at that? Was
- 4:42Speaker 2: he just spurred on by that?
- 4:44Speaker 1: I think he was spurred. Yeah, you've poked the bear.
- 4:46Speaker 1: Not only was there this in the lead up, you know,
- 4:50Speaker 1: he loses that first set to Djokovic. Djokovic is then
- 4:55Speaker 1: up a break in the second set and serving for it.
- 5:00Speaker 1: And this is when things get extra spicy Lizzy Who.
- 5:05Speaker 1: This is the fan getting hit by a Medvedev ball.
- 5:10Speaker 2: Crazy.
- 5:10Speaker 1: Medvedev, it, like, bounces off the backboard, and Medvedev, like,
- 5:13Speaker 1: just seemingly goes to hit the deflection, maybe back into
- 5:17Speaker 1: the backboard, but goes a little high with it.
- 5:20Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 5:21Speaker 1: A little high?
- 5:22Speaker 2: Front row high?
- 5:23Speaker 1: Front row high.
- 5:24Speaker 2: Ooh.
- 5:25Speaker 1: Front row spectator eyeball high. Ooh. So the winner goes
- 5:30Speaker 1: past him. He goes to hit it back into the backboard.
- 5:34Speaker 2: Oh.
- 5:36Speaker 1: Launches it up. We think Medvedev has just volleyed the
- 5:39Speaker 1: ball up into the crowd here.
- 5:41Speaker 2: A bit more than a volley, I would say. Oh!
- 5:43Speaker 1: I mean, that guy.
- 5:43Speaker 2: This guy is....
- 5:50Speaker 1: He's in pain.
- 5:51Speaker 2: He is in pain. If it hit his eye, that's
- 5:54Speaker 2: going to hurt.
- 5:54Speaker 1: At speed, he doesn't hit it softly.
- 5:56Speaker 2: I mean, he hits it pretty hard. But it's still
- 5:58Speaker 2: a Medvedev. It's still a professional tennis player's throwaway shot.
- 6:03Speaker 1: Medvedev doesn't really argue his case here. He's just like, yeah.
- 6:06Speaker 1: He kind of accepts it more willingly. He's like, all right,
- 6:09Speaker 1: I'm done.
- 6:10Speaker 3: All right.
- 6:10Speaker 1: We'll see you. It was 15-15. Djokovic was serving for
- 6:15Speaker 1: it in the 5-3 game.
- 6:17Speaker 2: That's it.
- 6:18Speaker 1: Okay. A few things here. Was the, I mean you
- 6:23Speaker 1: don't know where the tennis ball hit the spectator. You
- 6:25Speaker 1: just see his head and his hands and then, I
- 6:28Speaker 1: saw one commentator say the spectator had to be evacuated
- 6:31Speaker 1: from the stadium.
- 6:32Speaker 2: Evacuated?
- 6:33Speaker 1: Yeah, and I'm like, this wasn't an assassination attempt.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Wow.
- 6:38Speaker 1: You know what I mean? It's all a little dramatic.
- 6:40Speaker 2: Yeah, it's just a tennis ball to the head.
- 6:42Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 6:42Speaker 2: I mean, I've had plenty of those from my brothers.
- 6:45Speaker 1: Yeah. And were you evacuated from the playground?
- 6:49Speaker 2: I remember one time we were in a pool, and
- 6:52Speaker 2: the game was if you popped up out of the water...
- 6:56Speaker 2: And then my brother would throw the tennis ball at
- 6:58Speaker 2: my head. So I had to stay underwater and then
- 7:01Speaker 2: just come up for like quick breaths.
- 7:03Speaker 1: Yeah. It's called whack-a-mole.
- 7:06Speaker 2: Yeah. It was basically whack-a-mole. So this guy, I don't know.
- 7:10Speaker 1: Do you think too dramatic? I mean, if it hit
- 7:12Speaker 1: his eye and he's actually got some kind of ocular injury.
- 7:15Speaker 2: Yeah. And he's a brain surgeon and he needs his
- 7:19Speaker 2: eye or something. Like, I want to know who this
- 7:22Speaker 2: guy is.
- 7:23Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 7:23Speaker 1: I mean, big lawsuit on his hands.
- 7:27Speaker 2: And he would be an only child. So he's never
- 7:31Speaker 2: grown up with bullying.
- 7:32Speaker 1: Why would he be an only child?
- 7:36Speaker 2: They're all only children.
- 7:40Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true. Well, the one child policy and now
- 7:44Speaker 1: the one eye policy. I think he was going just
- 7:50Speaker 1: back into the wall.
- 7:52Speaker 2: Yeah, I think so.
- 7:52Speaker 1: But then just tagging this guy in the eyeballs, you know,
- 7:56Speaker 1: and then he's, you know. It does.
- 7:59Speaker 2: I'd like to see where this guy is now. But
- 8:01Speaker 2: maybe he had a little split second decision. He's like,
- 8:04Speaker 2: I could milk this. I could get it. Some little compensation.
- 8:08Speaker 1: Of course, dude, you flop. Yeah. You flop. Yeah. Immediately.
- 8:13Speaker 2: Interesting.
- 8:14Speaker 1: You start selling it like a soccer player that, you know,
- 8:17Speaker 1: just got a little tap on the shin.
- 8:18Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 8:20Speaker 1: And we'll see what this guy does from here. But like,
- 8:23Speaker 1: even with the lady with Djokovic at the U.S. Open.
- 8:26Speaker 1: who she looks like Ellen. I don't know if you remember.
- 8:29Speaker 1: She really looked like Ellen. Djokovic hits her in the throat. Yes. Yeah,
- 8:33Speaker 1: and she is immediately keeled over. They always look like
- 8:37Speaker 1: they've been properly shot. And like you said, we've been
- 8:42Speaker 1: hit with tennis balls.
- 8:43Speaker 2: It's hard. I've been hit with a hockey ball many times.
- 8:46Speaker 1: My brothers and I used to soak a tennis ball
- 8:49Speaker 1: in gasoline, light it on fire, and kick it at
- 8:52Speaker 1: each other.
- 8:55Speaker 2: The 90s.
- 8:59Speaker 1: But, I mean, it sucks for Djokovic because he was
- 9:03Speaker 1: going to win his 33rd match in a row at
- 9:06Speaker 1: this tournament.
- 9:07Speaker 2: I think he was going to win it anyway. He
- 9:08Speaker 2: was going to win. Let's just give him that.
- 9:09Speaker 1: But that's not on the books now. This is like
- 9:12Speaker 1: a walkover, right?
- 9:13Speaker 2: Oh, so he doesn't get, like, the notch.
- 9:17Speaker 1: Oh. I mean, it's still like he's now through to
- 9:20Speaker 1: the final where he's playing Demonar.
- 9:22Speaker 2: Yes.
- 9:22Speaker 1: Yeah, Demonar got through also in a walkover, Hurcats.
- 9:26Speaker 2: Oh, Yomer.
- 9:27Speaker 5: Hubie, I was not feeling my best in the second
- 9:30Speaker 5: set and I had to leave. My hamstring is a
- 9:34Speaker 5: little bit tight. I heard there's a guy in Melbourne
- 9:38Speaker 5: who put his underwear and pajama pants on at the
- 9:41Speaker 5: same time. He would have a race car bed. He'd
- 9:43Speaker 5: be hurricane.
- 9:46Speaker 1: Anyone named Hubert has a race car bed.
- 9:48Speaker 2: For sure.
- 9:49Speaker 4: Fairly sorry to the spectator, first of all, and trying
- 9:51Speaker 4: to get in touch with him if he wants it.
- 9:56Speaker 4: So hopefully I can apologize in person and see how
- 10:00Speaker 4: he feels. You can see that I didn't hit the
- 10:02Speaker 4: ball in anger and actually I do a lot of
- 10:04Speaker 4: bad things but usually he like mole abuse is not
- 10:07Speaker 4: my thing and the ball was bouncing back so I
- 10:11Speaker 4: tried to like just hit it anywhere so it doesn't
- 10:15Speaker 4: you know go out from the court yeah it hit
- 10:17Speaker 4: him and i felt terribly sorry for him actually because
- 10:20Speaker 4: again i just hope he's okay and that's the most
- 10:23Speaker 4: important the rest uh we move on i just really
- 10:28Speaker 4: care about him right now and hopefully i can meet
- 10:30Speaker 4: him and make up for it somehow.
- 10:33Speaker 1: I'm willing to put money on Medvedev has hit a
- 10:39Speaker 1: ball in anger into the stands in frustration multiple times,
- 10:42Speaker 1: but this is the first time it's connected with an
- 10:44Speaker 1: eyeball of a spectator.
- 10:46Speaker 2: Yeah, for sure.
- 10:47Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think that, I mean, little post-match interview
- 10:51Speaker 1: there basically boils down to, please don't sue me, please.
- 10:54Speaker 2: Please don't sue me. I'll give you a tennis racket.
- 10:57Speaker 2: I'll get a photo with you.
- 10:58Speaker 1: It'd be funny if you gave him a smashed tennis racket.
- 11:01Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 11:02Speaker 1: It was broken on his head. Yeah. Another spectator's head.
- 11:06Speaker 2: Or if he signed the bowl. Oh. The exact bowl
- 11:09Speaker 2: that hit him in the eye.
- 11:10Speaker 1: He signs his eye patch.
- 11:12Speaker 2: Yeah. He signs his glass eye. It's an engraved glass eye.
- 11:20Speaker 1: So, yeah, I mean, I'm looking forward to the final
- 11:22Speaker 1: tonight between Djokovic and Demonard. Demonard's showing some. Form that
- 11:27Speaker 1: he hasn't really shown all year, being busy with a
- 11:29Speaker 1: wedding and whatnot. But these guys are starting to play
- 11:34Speaker 1: their best tennis, Djokovic and Diminar, this late in the season.
- 11:37Speaker 2: What do you think that is? Less pressure?
- 11:39Speaker 1: Less pressure. Well, Djokovic especially, his reception in China is.
- 11:47Speaker 1: They love him. They love him so much. He played
- 11:52Speaker 1: Boo in the first round, a Chinese player, and they
- 11:56Speaker 1: were going for Djokovic.
- 11:58Speaker 2: Wow. Yeah. Okay. What would you rather be, like world
- 12:02Speaker 2: huge or China huge? world world okay.
- 12:06Speaker 6: Yeah china is in the world yeah yeah but you
- 12:12Speaker 6: know like everywhere else but you know because china huge
- 12:15Speaker 6: is like so different.
- 12:17Speaker 1: Yeah what is the perks of china huge that you
- 12:19Speaker 1: don't get probably more people more people.
- 12:22Speaker 2: More money oh yeah 100 more money.
- 12:26Speaker 1: Yeah yeah yeah so huge in beijing yeah nothing in new.
- 12:31Speaker 2: York like eileen goo.
- 12:33Speaker 1: Eileen goo She.
- 12:35Speaker 2: Went to China. Yeah, but she's always been huge in China.
- 12:40Speaker 2: She gets like the biggest deals.
- 12:42Speaker 1: Right.
- 12:43Speaker 2: Okay. More deals there than she would. I mean, she
- 12:46Speaker 2: represents China, but she gets more deals there than world.
- 12:50Speaker 3: Oh.
- 12:50Speaker 2: If you know what I mean. Right, right, right.
- 12:52Speaker 1: So you think that was a business decision by the
- 12:55Speaker 1: Gu to go big in China?
- 12:57Speaker 2: Yeah, a little bit of business. A little bit of.
- 13:01Speaker 1: So you would say big in China.
- 13:04Speaker 2: I think it's got its perks.
- 13:06Speaker 1: Okay. Yeah. So if you could only perform stand up
- 13:09Speaker 1: in China.
- 13:10Speaker 2: Oh, no, there's no perks to doing stand up in China.
- 13:17Speaker 2: It's called jail time.
- 13:19Speaker 1: We love China here on Podlabor Arena. You know, we
- 13:22Speaker 1: want all the Chinese listeners to support us in the
- 13:25Speaker 1: way that they support Novak Djokovic.
- 13:27Speaker 2: Yes.
- 13:28Speaker 1: It is like, Jockovich mania over there they go nuts
- 13:32Speaker 1: for him like yeah and I mean that's probably the
- 13:36Speaker 1: part of the motivation for him having not played there
- 13:39Speaker 1: since 2015 I want to say but going back to
- 13:42Speaker 1: maintain his winning record and then this puts him in
- 13:45Speaker 1: the race for the ATP finals especially if he wins tonight.
- 13:50Speaker 1: He beat Zverev earlier in the tournament.
- 13:51Speaker 2: Yes, yeah, we haven't spoken about that.
- 13:53Speaker 1: Yeah, in three sets. And Zverev is vying to be
- 13:58Speaker 1: world number one, especially since Sinner has opted out now
- 14:02Speaker 1: with his knee injury of the Asian Hardcourt Swing. And
- 14:06Speaker 1: I feel like there's so many permutations that have to
- 14:09Speaker 1: happen for Zverev to claim the world number one spot
- 14:12Speaker 1: now that he didn't go deep in this tournament. But
- 14:14Speaker 1: it's interesting that Zverev has not beat Sinner, Alcaraz, or
- 14:18Speaker 1: Djokovic this year.
- 14:19Speaker 2: Yeah, isn't that crazy?
- 14:20Speaker 1: But has won two Grand Slam finals.
- 14:23Speaker 2: 0-15 or something against those three players?
- 14:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 14:25Speaker 2: That's crazy stat.
- 14:27Speaker 1: And still won two of the big ones. So, a
- 14:30Speaker 1: bit of a.
- 14:30Speaker 2: Still in a real Bradbury. Oh!
- 14:34Speaker 1: A bit of a Mickey Mouse run for old Pharaoh. Maybe, maybe.
- 14:37Speaker 2: I mean, he's still incredible. But yeah, he's still got
- 14:39Speaker 2: those three players in front of him.
- 14:41Speaker 1: So yeah, stay tuned. Next week, we'll talk about what happened, obviously,
- 14:45Speaker 1: in the final between Djokovic and Diminar.
- 14:47Speaker 4: Yes.
- 14:48Speaker 1: And then in the Japan Open happening in Tokyo, Alcaraz
- 14:54Speaker 1: has found himself in the final against Lehetschke.
- 14:59Speaker 2: Oh, Lehetschke.
- 15:00Speaker 1: Yeah, the Lehetsch. So the Hetsch. It's playing Alcaraz. Alcaraz
- 15:04Speaker 1: still rocking the flowing.
- 15:06Speaker 2: Beautiful. Beautiful hair.
- 15:08Speaker 1: Got the locks on that, man.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Yeah, it's a lot of hair.
- 15:11Speaker 1: It's a lot of hair.
- 15:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 15:12Speaker 1: Are you a hair fan on a man?
- 15:14Speaker 2: Yeah, we love hair.
- 15:15Speaker 1: Hairy body?
- 15:19Speaker 2: Hairy head. I mean, I'm in my 40s.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:22Speaker 2: You really appreciate.
- 15:24Speaker 1: Oh, true. A man with a good hairline. Yeah, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 15:28Speaker 1: So you're anti-race car bed. You're anti-bald.
- 15:31Speaker 2: Geez, Lizzie, your standards.
- 15:34Speaker 1: No bald men with race car beds is.
- 15:36Speaker 2: What I'm hearing. I mean, it eliminates so many.
- 15:40Speaker 1: It does. Yeah, so the other controversies earlier in the week,
- 15:49Speaker 1: there was Novak playing Zverev. And I don't know if
- 15:53Speaker 1: you saw this. There was the Zverev saying he was
- 15:58Speaker 1: hindered by an LED side panel kind of glitching or changing.
- 16:02Speaker 2: Right.
- 16:03Speaker 1: It just changed to a different graphic.
- 16:04Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 16:05Speaker 1: And so he, after losing the point, said, oh, can we.
- 16:09Speaker 3: Play a let on that?
- 16:10Speaker 1: Because that put me off. What do you think?
- 16:13Speaker 2: No, you can't do that. He should have stopped straight away.
- 16:17Speaker 1: Right.
- 16:17Speaker 2: Is that the rule? Like, if he felt a hindrance,
- 16:20Speaker 2: he should have been like, oh.
- 16:21Speaker 1: Well, the rule now with the VAR is that they can, like,
- 16:26Speaker 1: review it and go, oh, yeah, you were hindered early,
- 16:29Speaker 1: so we'll replay the point. Which is what Djokovic is like,
- 16:31Speaker 1: this is the dumbest rule ever.
- 16:33Speaker 5: Right.
- 16:34Speaker 1: Because you could play a 40-shot rally and they'd be like, oh,
- 16:37Speaker 1: on shot number two, a bird flew.
- 16:39Speaker 2: Yeah, yeah, yeah. Someone yelled out from the crowd or whatever. Yeah, yeah. Oof.
- 16:43Speaker 2: I know. That's a slippery slope.
- 16:45Speaker 5: It is.
- 16:46Speaker 1: And again, I'm on Djokovic's side here because he's like,
- 16:48Speaker 1: what are we doing? This is ridiculous.
- 16:51Speaker 2: So the result of that was Zverev getting... They replayed
- 16:54Speaker 2: the point.
- 16:54Speaker 1: They replayed the point. And then, I mean, justice, where
- 16:57Speaker 1: Djokovic then won the next point. And then eventually, obviously,
- 17:01Speaker 1: the match.
- 17:02Speaker 2: But....
- 17:04Speaker 1: A bit ridiculous to be like, I mean, you'd want
- 17:08Speaker 1: to then start complaining about everything after the fact. Yeah.
- 17:12Speaker 1: Every point you lose, you just.
- 17:14Speaker 3: Go, oh.
- 17:14Speaker 2: You could just do a little complaint.
- 17:16Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. I heard a mouse queef.
- 17:19Speaker 2: Yeah. Two days ago. Still in my memory. And it
- 17:27Speaker 2: distracted me. No. I wouldn't want to poke the bear.
- 17:31Speaker 1: But Djokovic, no, as we've seen so many times over
- 17:34Speaker 1: the past 20 years.
- 17:35Speaker 2: But isn't the LED screen changing all the time anyway?
- 17:39Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 17:40Speaker 2: Maybe that's an LED screen problem.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Yeah. You think you would have acclimated to it.
- 17:45Speaker 2: Yeah, but there's LED screens. I wonder, don't they usually
- 17:50Speaker 2: just come up in the break though?
- 17:51Speaker 1: Yeah. With the like swirling graphics and stuff. But I
- 17:55Speaker 1: think it's, they're usually pretty static during the actual match play.
- 18:00Speaker 1: But sometimes tennis players are a little too precious. You
- 18:04Speaker 1: remember Andy Murray stopping play because there was a feather
- 18:08Speaker 1: on the back of the court.
- 18:09Speaker 2: A feather? Yeah.
- 18:10Speaker 1: Like a little solitary feather. And he was like, oh, sorry.
- 18:13Speaker 1: Like we have to stop because there's a feather back there.
- 18:15Speaker 1: And it's like, And at the same time, Serena was
- 18:20Speaker 1: playing pregnant, right?
- 18:21Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 18:21Speaker 1: And she was, like, not complaining about anything.
- 18:24Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 18:25Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:26Speaker 2: Perspective.
- 18:26Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, there's a feather in the back of the court?
- 18:29Speaker 2: Aw, try having a baby.
- 18:31Speaker 1: I'm forming a human.
- 18:32Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 18:34Speaker 1: Yeah, so as touched on before, Sinner withdrawing from the
- 18:40Speaker 1: Shanghai Masters, the 1,000 event.
- 18:42Speaker 2: We wish him well.
- 18:43Speaker 3: I know.
- 18:44Speaker 2: It's a knee thing, right? Yeah. It's tricky.
- 18:47Speaker 1: I know.
- 18:47Speaker 2: Knees are real mental. It is.
- 18:49Speaker 1: And I've said before that at the start of this year,
- 18:53Speaker 1: We were going, is this just going to be boring
- 18:55Speaker 1: where it's just Alcaraz and Sinner every final? And then
- 18:59Speaker 1: now we just miss it. We're like, we haven't seen
- 19:02Speaker 1: these guys play all year. And it's really like been
- 19:07Speaker 1: a kind of a empty void in the year of tennis.
- 19:11Speaker 4: Me together with the doctors have decided that I need
- 19:15Speaker 4: a course of treatment for my knee. which means that
- 19:19Speaker 4: the 2026 season is officially over.
- 19:21Speaker 1: So, like, you want them both healthy at the same time, like,
- 19:24Speaker 1: hopefully at the AO. I think, you know, Alcaraz is
- 19:28Speaker 1: obviously in the final in Tokyo, but still kind of
- 19:31Speaker 1: slowly regaining that match fitness form.
- 19:34Speaker 2: Yeah, he'll be back. Yeah. I am enjoying this drama, though.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Oh, yeah.
- 19:38Speaker 2: The Zverev, Medvedev, Djokovic.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Oh, yeah. Yeah.
- 19:42Speaker 2: The tussle.
- 19:43Speaker 1: Well, those two guys are throwing shade at Djokovic for
- 19:46Speaker 1: being old.
- 19:47Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 19:48Speaker 2: You cannot.
- 19:50Speaker 1: Again poking the bear yeah.
- 19:52Speaker 4: Novak is crazy because he's I mean he's old you
- 19:54Speaker 4: know we're not gonna lie but he can play so
- 19:57Speaker 4: good still.
- 19:57Speaker 2: They're not gonna be playing at 39 100 they're not
- 20:01Speaker 2: gonna be playing no yeah you cannot go after a
- 20:04Speaker 2: 39 year old and mock him.
- 20:06Speaker 1: Especially the tall guys seem to have a shorter shelf
- 20:09Speaker 1: life and that's vera and medvedev they're both like six
- 20:12Speaker 1: six or something and what is it with tall guys
- 20:15Speaker 1: having a shorter life do you know that the lifespan
- 20:18Speaker 1: of tall men is yeah yeah yeah is.
- 20:21Speaker 2: It shorter yeah i was just gonna say is it
- 20:23Speaker 2: like big dogs i guess they have to I don't know,
- 20:27Speaker 2: pump their heart more or something? I don't know.
- 20:31Speaker 1: Zverev and Medvedev were probably retired by 36? Yeah, earlier.
- 20:37Speaker 2: Earlier.
- 20:38Speaker 1: I mean, who knows? They both never really succumbed to injury. Well,
- 20:42Speaker 1: outside of Zverev snapping his ankle at the French Open.
- 20:45Speaker 1: But the wear and tear on them as kind of
- 20:49Speaker 1: just baseline players, not rushing the net, hasn't been as
- 20:52Speaker 1: dramatic as some of these other guys. Well, Alcaraz... Has
- 20:56Speaker 1: that Nadal thing where he's just punishing.
- 20:59Speaker 2: Every game.
- 21:00Speaker 1: Every match. Every match.
- 21:02Speaker 2: How dare you.
- 21:04Speaker 1: It's been almost a year.
- 21:04Speaker 2: I've been watching a lot of other sports where they
- 21:09Speaker 2: say a game. Oh, yeah.
- 21:10Speaker 1: Tennis news. On to the WTA, Lizzy Hu. So they
- 21:15Speaker 1: play concurrently with the ATP 500, but theirs is an
- 21:20Speaker 1: 1,000 event in Beijing. Some huge upsets. Rebecca going out early.
- 21:26Speaker 1: Sabalenka going out. She is having a pretty tough year.
- 21:32Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 21:33Speaker 1: By her standards.
- 21:34Speaker 2: Yeah. I mean, she's been world number one for most
- 21:37Speaker 2: of it.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Yeah. Yeah.
- 21:38Speaker 2: But yeah, as far as getting things over the line.
- 21:41Speaker 1: What do you think's going on?
- 21:43Speaker 2: I don't know. A little bit of pressure. I think
- 21:45Speaker 2: the more people tell you you're not having a good year,
- 21:48Speaker 2: the more pressure is on her to succeed, right? Yeah.
- 21:52Speaker 2: I think it's just hard.
- 21:53Speaker 1: For her at the moment. This stat is crazy. Sabalenka
- 21:56Speaker 1: has lost against six players outside the top 15 this year.
- 22:00Speaker 1: Hailey Baptiste, Kristea, Diana Schneider, Alexandra Drova, Sarah Bailick, and
- 22:06Speaker 1: then now Bartonkova in Beijing. So she's now gone nine
- 22:11Speaker 1: straight tournaments without a title since the Miami Open in March.
- 22:16Speaker 3: Oof.
- 22:16Speaker 2: Yeah. Okay.
- 22:18Speaker 1: I mean, she obviously hates when any press interview goes
- 22:23Speaker 1: in this direction. But it's like, maybe you're online a
- 22:26Speaker 1: little too much.
- 22:28Speaker 2: Oh.
- 22:28Speaker 1: Yeah. Oh, really?
- 22:30Speaker 2: You think so?
- 22:31Speaker 1: Oh, yeah, yeah, yeah. Any hint of she's distracted by her... lavish,
- 22:37Speaker 1: you know, kind of celebrity lifestyle she takes much offense to.
- 22:42Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 22:43Speaker 1: You guys are like a joke. Is that a factor or?
- 22:47Speaker 2: Yeah, maybe the press is a factor. Maybe the people
- 22:52Speaker 2: are working out her play, like her weaknesses.
- 22:56Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 22:56Speaker 2: Because she's kind of got one.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Gearing.
- 22:59Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 23:00Speaker 2: And maybe people are working that out and. beating it.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Party is fun. Like, why would you even say that?
- 23:07Speaker 1: Why would you even think about that? I mean, well,
- 23:09Speaker 1: that is, I mean, every player has a drop off.
- 23:12Speaker 1: I mean, this is her not playing to the standard
- 23:17Speaker 1: she obviously would hope. And then, yeah, her power game,
- 23:21Speaker 1: just maybe she comes up against someone that can match
- 23:24Speaker 1: her power or has a little more finesse around the court.
- 23:28Speaker 1: And maybe she posts on Instagram a little too much.
- 23:33Speaker 2: I also feel like she.
- 23:39Speaker 2: I don't think it's the social stuff. Everyone's doing that.
- 23:43Speaker 2: She kind of has to, you know. I think she
- 23:45Speaker 2: also has to have a really good start. And if
- 23:48Speaker 2: something happens, it feels like she can't keep her cool.
- 23:51Speaker 2: I feel like that's more of it than anything else.
- 23:54Speaker 1: It's a hard watch, her matches these days. Because she
- 23:58Speaker 1: has that tortured look of everything's so difficult and how
- 24:03Speaker 1: dare they play this well against me. And that's, again,
- 24:07Speaker 1: why watching someone like Alcaraz is such a joy because
- 24:10Speaker 1: he's just smiling and having a great time out there.
- 24:13Speaker 1: He's like a puppy, you know? So, yeah.
- 24:17Speaker 2: Because she kind of alludes to it. She does allude
- 24:20Speaker 2: to it a lot of the time with her team.
- 24:22Speaker 2: She says, oh, I'm such a handful. Like, they look
- 24:25Speaker 2: after me. And I guess maybe what happens behind the scenes.
- 24:28Speaker 2: I don't know. Maybe there is a bit of woe
- 24:30Speaker 2: is me in the Sabalenka camp.
- 24:33Speaker 3: Maybe.
- 24:33Speaker 1: Does she come back strong for the A.O.
- 24:36Speaker 2: She loves it out here.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 24:38Speaker 2: 100%.
- 24:39Speaker 1: And, I mean, well, she lost to Rebecca this year, but,
- 24:42Speaker 1: I mean, any hardcore slam, you think she has a
- 24:45Speaker 1: deep run.
- 24:45Speaker 2: For sure.
- 24:47Speaker 1: All right, time, pun intended, to get into our favorite segment.
- 24:53Speaker 1: This is Watch Watch.
- 24:57Speaker 2: Big watch watch moment uh i don't.
- 25:01Speaker 1: Know if i'm pronouncing this right but maria timofeeva.
- 25:04Speaker 2: I think that was beautiful has her.
- 25:06Speaker 1: Watch stolen from the locker room during a tournament so.
- 25:10Speaker 2: Yeah in beijing in beijing yeah she said she left
- 25:14Speaker 2: her bag outside for 10 minutes to have a shower
- 25:17Speaker 2: and then her watch was gone definitely not how i
- 25:20Speaker 2: wanted to end my day yesterday after losing a three
- 25:23Speaker 2: set match at china open.
- 25:27Speaker 1: Another lesson not to leave your tennis bag outside of
- 25:29Speaker 1: a locker room even for 10 minutes while you take
- 25:31Speaker 1: a shower um.
- 25:35Speaker 2: She's definitely blaming i mean it's it's only officials back there.
- 25:38Speaker 1: This reeks of um seinfeld's dad Not being able to
- 25:43Speaker 1: find his wallet after he goes to the doctor. My
- 25:46Speaker 1: wallet's gone. My wallet's gone.
- 25:49Speaker 2: My wallet's gone. Do you think she's going to find
- 25:54Speaker 2: it later? Is that what you're saying?
- 25:55Speaker 1: Didn't she?
- 25:56Speaker 2: She's in it.
- 25:57Speaker 5: Oh, what?
- 25:57Speaker 1: I think she did.
- 25:59Speaker 2: Whoa.
- 25:59Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 25:59Speaker 2: I didn't know this.
- 26:00Speaker 1: She misplaced it, I think, or never had one in
- 26:04Speaker 1: the first one. I mean, the.
- 26:06Speaker 2: The tournament has... Oh, well, this is a backpedal.
- 26:09Speaker 3: I know.
- 26:10Speaker 1: So she just found it like in the recesses of
- 26:13Speaker 1: her bag or something.
- 26:14Speaker 3: Yeah, for sure.
- 26:15Speaker 1: She says, after my short time story yesterday about my
- 26:18Speaker 1: watch being stolen in Beijing, the issue has been resolved.
- 26:21Speaker 1: So I'm very sorry to cause any mess, misunderstanding. And
- 26:24Speaker 1: in this situation, the tournament has been nothing but cooperative
- 26:27Speaker 1: and helpful with me as soon as I address the issue.
- 26:29Speaker 1: Some stories do have happy ends, and this is.
- 26:32Speaker 3: One of them.
- 26:33Speaker 2: I think the laugh emoji is doing... Some heavy lifting hand.
- 26:38Speaker 1: And love, the love heart hand.
- 26:40Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 26:40Speaker 1: This means she definitely misplaced it and like was.
- 26:43Speaker 2: She didn't have the watch on that day.
- 26:45Speaker 3: No.
- 26:46Speaker 1: And this, you really need the soundbite of my wallet's gone.
- 26:52Speaker 1: That's exactly what happened to Seinfeld's dad as well. He
- 26:55Speaker 1: had just misplaced it and he accused people of stealing.
- 26:59Speaker 2: Wow. Somebody lost their job for sure.
- 27:01Speaker 1: I did a gig with a comic who hadn't been
- 27:04Speaker 1: around that long. And I was hosting the gig. This
- 27:07Speaker 1: was at the bank in Sydney. Do you remember that gig?
- 27:11Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 27:12Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, yeah. And he got up and bombed his
- 27:16Speaker 1: tits off. Like, it was a bad set, right? And
- 27:19Speaker 1: then he has a really bad set, and then he
- 27:22Speaker 1: goes back to the bar, and I go back on stage.
- 27:25Speaker 1: And then I start to hear him go, has anyone
- 27:27Speaker 1: seen my phone? Has anyone seen my phone? Like, what
- 27:31Speaker 1: is going on? Someone has stolen my phone from the bar. Someone, I,
- 27:36Speaker 1: my phone was here when I got on stage and
- 27:39Speaker 1: I'm on stage going to the crowd. I was like,
- 27:41Speaker 1: did anyone take this guy's phone? And everyone's like, no.
- 27:44Speaker 1: And he's like, what the hell? And he like totally
- 27:47Speaker 1: disrupts the gig.
- 27:49Speaker 3: Right.
- 27:49Speaker 1: And then he like demands that the bar go through
- 27:53Speaker 1: the CCTV footage with him, like goes in there. And
- 27:57Speaker 1: then eventually like the leaves and everyone's like, well, that
- 28:00Speaker 1: was weird. And then I get a message from him
- 28:04Speaker 1: later going, oh, I left my phone at home. What?
- 28:10Speaker 2: What?
- 28:11Speaker 1: It is so funny to not only bomb, but then
- 28:14Speaker 1: accuse an entire crowd of stealing.
- 28:16Speaker 2: I left it on the bar. You didn't even have it.
- 28:21Speaker 2: Crazy man. That was Watch Watch.
- 28:23Speaker 1: That was Watch Watch. That was our first Crime Stoppers
- 28:26Speaker 1: edition of Watch Watch. What's good crime music? Is there
- 28:29Speaker 1: like a good... Or a.
- 28:33Speaker 2: Oh, perfect.
- 28:35Speaker 1: Watch Watch. Game Set Hats. All right, let's get into
- 28:45Speaker 1: everyone's least favorite segment. This is Game Set Hats.
- 28:51Speaker 2: But also, we don't want to do Game Set Hats
- 28:53Speaker 2: every week, but it keeps happening.
- 28:55Speaker 1: There's hat content.
- 28:57Speaker 2: There's hat content to do. We didn't choose the hat life.
- 29:01Speaker 1: Now the Hat Life chose us.
- 29:02Speaker 2: It really did.
- 29:03Speaker 5: All right.
- 29:03Speaker 1: So, Lizzie, what happened on this week's?
- 29:06Speaker 2: Well, Alex Yala, the most popular tennis player, I would say.
- 29:11Speaker 2: One of the most popular tennis players in the world.
- 29:13Speaker 2: And everyone wants a piece of her. Everyone wants their
- 29:16Speaker 2: autograph from her. And she's signing after a game.
- 29:23Speaker 5: Sorry.
- 29:23Speaker 2: She's signing after a match.
- 29:26Speaker 1: I've stopped caring.
- 29:27Speaker 2: Okay, good. I haven't. I want to improve. And a fan,
- 29:36Speaker 2: you know, everyone's putting their big tennis ball. in front
- 29:40Speaker 2: of her and hats and all this sort of stuff.
- 29:42Speaker 2: And then one of the fans throws a hat at her.
- 29:47Speaker 1: Which we saw with Djokovic in last week's edition of
- 29:50Speaker 1: Game Set Hats.
- 29:53Speaker 2: I was going to say watch, watch. And a fan
- 29:58Speaker 2: kind of lobs... a hat at her, and it hits her,
- 30:02Speaker 2: and she looks disappointed. But Alexiola being Alexiola, she handles
- 30:07Speaker 2: it perfectly. The hat gets thrown at her.
- 30:12Speaker 1: She drops her bag. Thank you, Ali.
- 30:25Speaker 2: She teaches him a lesson at the same time.
- 30:28Speaker 1: I saw some commentary on this where they're like, this
- 30:31Speaker 1: is the first time I've seen Iala lose her cool.
- 30:33Speaker 1: And I'm like, she does not lose her cool.
- 30:34Speaker 2: She does not lose her cool. She signs the thing
- 30:36Speaker 2: and she says, please, say please next time.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Yeah, just ask nicely.
- 30:39Speaker 2: Just be polite.
- 30:40Speaker 1: Don't throw objects at me and want me to sign them.
- 30:43Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Maybe Medvedev wanted that guy to sign his ball.
- 30:46Speaker 2: Yeah. Yeah, exactly.
- 30:51Speaker 1: But she's just totally rational and like, yeah, I'll sign
- 30:55Speaker 1: it if you just hand it to me.
- 30:56Speaker 2: She signed the hat first of all the things that
- 30:58Speaker 2: were being handed to her.
- 31:00Speaker 1: This is a trend now, people throwing hats at players.
- 31:03Speaker 2: Wow, gangsta hats is going to go off.
- 31:06Speaker 1: Yeah, that's true.
- 31:07Speaker 2: It's going to be the same story every time. Fan
- 31:10Speaker 2: throws hat.
- 31:11Speaker 1: Rude fan throws. But Djokovic didn't sign that. He gave
- 31:15Speaker 1: the guy a withering look.
- 31:16Speaker 2: He did, yeah. And then he stormed off. He finished
- 31:21Speaker 2: what he was signing, and then he left.
- 31:23Speaker 1: Y'all that goes back and signs a hat. What a lady.
- 31:27Speaker 1: Anything else in Gabe's head?
- 31:30Speaker 2: Yeah. I haven't seen this.
- 31:32Speaker 1: This is huge. This is world-shattering news. Wow. Sabalenka wore
- 31:37Speaker 1: a hat?
- 31:38Speaker 2: Oh, huge difference. This is massive. I see where they're
- 31:41Speaker 2: going with this. Yeah? Because it's such a visually... We
- 31:45Speaker 2: don't see this that often, but half the court is
- 31:49Speaker 2: in direct sunlight.
- 31:50Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 31:51Speaker 2: I always thought she'd probably rock a visor a bit better.
- 31:55Speaker 1: People were blown away to see Sabalenka in a cap.
- 31:58Speaker 1: They were referring to her on Twitter as Capalenka.
- 32:02Speaker 2: I love it.
- 32:03Speaker 1: Someone was like, am I looking at Iga Chavantech or
- 32:07Speaker 1: Irina Sabalenka? It's like, come on. Let women wear hats.
- 32:11Speaker 2: Yes.
- 32:11Speaker 3: What was your.
- 32:13Speaker 2: Attire.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Did you like to go visor?
- 32:14Speaker 2: Did you like to go cap? No, I went hat.
- 32:18Speaker 1: I was an advisor person. And people say tennis is boring.
- 32:23Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 32:23Speaker 1: Game set, hat. All right.
- 32:30Speaker 2: I love that like any little change in tennis, people are.
- 32:34Speaker 1: So onto well i think it's the individualism of the
- 32:38Speaker 1: sport is that when there is like someone does any
- 32:42Speaker 1: little change it's like i guess noteworthy or something but
- 32:46Speaker 1: i mean i miss the days of like big fashion
- 32:50Speaker 1: statements agassi wearing jean shorts out there nadal in the
- 32:54Speaker 1: capri pants I mean, you're just not seeing, outside of
- 32:57Speaker 1: obviously Osaka and the walk-on stuff, you're not seeing anything
- 33:01Speaker 1: too outlandish.
- 33:01Speaker 3: Oh, gosh, no.
- 33:02Speaker 2: And it's probably because everyone goes crazy for it. Yeah.
- 33:05Speaker 2: And they don't want the attention, maybe.
- 33:08Speaker 1: Ah, the trolls.
- 33:09Speaker 2: The trolls. Yes.
- 33:14Speaker 1: Game set hats. Game set hats.
- 33:16Speaker 4: What will they think of next?
- 33:17Speaker 1: Okay, ciao, ciao. This is everyone's new favorite segment.
- 33:21Speaker 2: Oh, my gosh.
- 33:22Speaker 1: Steffi Graf's.
- 33:25Speaker 2: Oh, yep. I forgot to clap.
- 33:28Speaker 1: Thank you. On this week's edition of Steffi Graphs, I
- 33:31Speaker 1: have two new amazing graphs to show you that apply
- 33:35Speaker 1: to all things tennis. This first one is crowd support
- 33:40Speaker 1: distribution in an Alex Iola match. As you can see,
- 33:43Speaker 1: who the crowd is cheering for, the big red 87%.
- 33:48Speaker 1: is crowd support for Alex Iola, basically most of the time.
- 33:53Speaker 1: That 12% is support for her opponent when the opponent
- 33:57Speaker 1: is in their home country, as we saw with Eva
- 33:59Speaker 1: Jovic playing Iola at the US Open, still the majority
- 34:03Speaker 1: of people going for Iola. This little tiny slice, 1%,
- 34:07Speaker 1: is support for her opponent when the opponent is playing overseas.
- 34:12Speaker 1: So even 1% might be a bit generous there because
- 34:15Speaker 1: I feel like Alexiola dominates. But what you're guaranteed to
- 34:20Speaker 1: get 100% of support for Alexiola is when she is
- 34:25Speaker 1: being watched by Cameron Diaz. Cameron Diaz support for Alexiola
- 34:34Speaker 1: is at 100% because as you know, she.
- 34:35Speaker 2: Grew up around many islands.
- 34:39Speaker 1: Filipinos.
- 34:40Speaker 2: Many Filipinos. Yes.
- 34:42Speaker 1: I haven't been to the Philippines, but I grew up
- 34:43Speaker 1: with a lot of Filipinos.
- 34:44Speaker 4: Really?
- 34:45Speaker 1: Yes.
- 34:45Speaker 4: My best friend that I grew up next door to,
- 34:47Speaker 4: her mother was from the Philippines.
- 34:50Speaker 2: Lumpia. Adobo. Lumpia.
- 34:53Speaker 1: Adobo.
- 34:53Speaker 2: Adobo.
- 34:54Speaker 5: Adobo.
- 34:55Speaker 1: Our next edition.
- 34:57Speaker 2: Beautiful graph.
- 34:57Speaker 1: Our next graph, I should say, in Steffi Graphs. This
- 35:00Speaker 1: is a very technical graph tracking my interest level during
- 35:06Speaker 1: a Zverev serve ritual. Okay. As you know, a lot
- 35:11Speaker 1: of players and commentators have called them out for bouncing
- 35:14Speaker 1: the ball. So much, you know, it's too much bouncing already.
- 35:19Speaker 1: So this is my interest. Like, so first ball bounce,
- 35:22Speaker 1: I'm interested. I want to see what's going to happen
- 35:24Speaker 1: in this point. I'm like, he's going to serve it.
- 35:26Speaker 1: You know, this is going to be great. There's going
- 35:28Speaker 1: to be a big rally baseline. One of the best backhands.
- 35:32Speaker 1: But then, you know, second ball bounce, it's starting to
- 35:35Speaker 1: wane a little bit. And then once we get around
- 35:38Speaker 1: to the six to nine ball bounce, I call that
- 35:40Speaker 1: the plateau of despair. I've lost interest. I'm looking at
- 35:44Speaker 1: my phone, Lizzie, who I am checked out of what
- 35:47Speaker 1: is going to happen here. But then we start getting
- 35:51Speaker 1: to 13, 14 ball bounces. My interest is starting to
- 35:54Speaker 1: go up. We got a time violation coming up. He's
- 35:58Speaker 1: going to get a penalty of sorts. He's going to
- 36:00Speaker 1: get chastised by a guy in a high chair.
- 36:03Speaker 2: Drawn back in.
- 36:04Speaker 1: I'm drawn back in. And then if the time violation
- 36:07Speaker 1: doesn't happen, he's going to serve in the rally. We'll start, hopefully. So,
- 36:10Speaker 1: that was Steffi Graf. Thank you.
- 36:15Speaker 2: I've got my own Steffi Graf, actually. Do you? Yeah,
- 36:19Speaker 2: my interest in Steffi Graf.
- 36:21Speaker 1: Where is it at? It sits up.
- 36:27Speaker 2: I'm in the plateau. And then when he starts to
- 36:30Speaker 2: wrap it up, my interest, it goes right up. Now
- 36:39Speaker 2: this is everyone's real favorite segment. It's called Approaching the
- 36:47Speaker 2: Net with me. And I have to dance every time.
- 36:51Speaker 1: The ladies shall dance for the gentlemen.
- 36:53Speaker 2: All right. First one, Booblick. We love Booblick.
- 36:56Speaker 1: We love the boob.
- 36:57Speaker 2: One of our biggest fans. Anyway, Booblick does the best
- 37:03Speaker 2: foot fault ever. It's kind of interesting, this one.
- 37:07Speaker 1: Mm-hmm.
- 37:08Speaker 2: Like, usually you associate the foot fault with the front foot. Yeah.
- 37:15Speaker 1: Double foot fault called.
- 37:17Speaker 3: If you didn't hear, foot fault. He's double checking which
- 37:20Speaker 3: foot it was. It's a ballet here.
- 37:29Speaker 1: Honestly, Public just has funny bones. He's just a funny guy.
- 37:33Speaker 2: He's a lanky guy.
- 37:34Speaker 1: I played tennis in 30 years. The first time I came,
- 37:37Speaker 1: this is also football.
- 37:39Speaker 2: He loves a little time out for a play. He
- 37:42Speaker 2: likes to have a bit of a joke, though.
- 37:44Speaker 1: A bit of an argument. Well, like a fun argument, right?
- 37:47Speaker 1: Like that back foot. So service motion, it is bad.
- 37:52Speaker 1: Like ballet. It's like almost pirouette-y, right?
- 37:55Speaker 2: It's weird.
- 37:56Speaker 1: Yeah. Back foot crossing over to go over the line
- 37:59Speaker 1: for a foot fault in the surface motion is bizarre.
- 38:04Speaker 1: And only our man Bublik.
- 38:05Speaker 2: Can pull it off. Well, it's crazy that this is
- 38:08Speaker 2: kind of the first time he's getting picked up for it. Yeah, yeah.
- 38:10Speaker 2: Because he's not changing. All right. So we've got a
- 38:14Speaker 2: couple of segments combining here. We have Jin. No, what
- 38:17Speaker 2: is it?
- 38:18Speaker 3: Jin and Tae.
- 38:19Speaker 2: Jen and Tomek.
- 38:20Speaker 1: Jen and Tomek.
- 38:21Speaker 2: And approaching the net. Together.
- 38:25Speaker 1: And the Atman. Atman. All right. Atman playing Tomek. They're
- 38:34Speaker 1: deep in the third set decider.
- 38:37Speaker 2: Tomek wins. Oh, I mean, lucky it didn't hit anyone's eye.
- 38:43Speaker 1: Spectator, yeah.
- 38:45Speaker 2: That was a big throw.
- 38:47Speaker 1: Yeah. It's pretty close to going into the stands.
- 38:50Speaker 2: It's close to going into the stands. It's close to
- 38:52Speaker 2: hitting the umpire. Yeah, yeah, yeah. It is a dangerous chuck.
- 38:56Speaker 1: It's rare to see Tomek as the level-headed player.
- 38:59Speaker 2: Yeah. It's crazy that Atman gets to complete the match
- 39:04Speaker 2: from there.
- 39:04Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:05Speaker 2: Whereas Medvedev could not.
- 39:08Speaker 1: Yeah.
- 39:08Speaker 2: The difference is pretty stark.
- 39:11Speaker 3: I know.
- 39:11Speaker 1: All it would have taken is a spectator who was
- 39:13Speaker 1: sitting just on the other side of where that racket
- 39:15Speaker 1: hit to be like, Yeah.
- 39:18Speaker 2: You know? Ow!
- 39:19Speaker 1: A little piece of debris caught me in the shoulder.
- 39:26Speaker 2: Call a doctor. Call a doctor. Now you are being
- 39:30Speaker 2: a bit Seinfeld's mom. Oh, my wallet's gone.
- 39:36Speaker 1: It hurts. My wallet's gone!
- 39:40Speaker 2: Okay, you go ahead. This next one. Speaking of things
- 39:43Speaker 2: getting hit by balls at tennis matches, a seagull. Shout
- 39:48Speaker 2: out to all the seagulls out there. Shout out to
- 39:52Speaker 2: all of them. A seagull is accidentally hit by a
- 39:55Speaker 2: tennis ball during a game. All right.
- 39:58Speaker 1: This is seemingly in Melbourne Park on the grounds here. So, yeah,
- 40:03Speaker 1: we could have seen this live.
- 40:03Speaker 2: Shout out to the seagull community.
- 40:06Speaker 1: This is.
- 40:07Speaker 2: Oh, yeah.
- 40:07Speaker 1: This is the tennis center.
- 40:08Speaker 2: Whoa. Whoa.
- 40:11Speaker 1: We see that again.
- 40:12Speaker 2: Oh, straight out.
- 40:16Speaker 6: Straight out of the air straight to the ground you would.
- 40:19Speaker 2: Be so shocked there's two seagulls just that come in
- 40:22Speaker 2: and then she hits one and it's knocked out oh
- 40:26Speaker 2: and it's seagull friends come to see it oh they're
- 40:30Speaker 2: like no seagull is.
- 40:32Speaker 1: Left behind That is amazing. That is the tennis center. That's, yeah,
- 40:36Speaker 1: just over here. This is crazy that that seagull acted
- 40:41Speaker 1: in a more dramatic fashion than the guy that got
- 40:43Speaker 1: hit in the eye. But pour one out for all the.
- 40:48Speaker 2: Birds that love sports. And the spectators and everyone that
- 40:53Speaker 2: has been hit by a ball. Yeah, yeah.
- 40:57Speaker 1: It's a heavy week of projectiles harming people. God's creatures
- 41:03Speaker 1: this week.
- 41:04Speaker 2: I would say going back to the Beijing Medvedev ball,
- 41:09Speaker 2: if that was in Australia, someone would have caught it.
- 41:13Speaker 1: Oh, so what are you saying?
- 41:14Speaker 2: Classic catch. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 41:15Speaker 1: So better athletes in Australia is what I'm hearing.
- 41:17Speaker 2: I think like here you could probably get hit by
- 41:20Speaker 2: the ball more often, but everyone's going for the catch.
- 41:23Speaker 1: So you're victim blaming here.
- 41:25Speaker 2: Yeah, I am.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Okay.
- 41:26Speaker 2: I am. Let's make that clear on the record. I
- 41:29Speaker 2: don't believe this man.
- 41:32Speaker 1: And if had he better reaction time, sitting front row
- 41:36Speaker 1: at a sport.
- 41:37Speaker 2: Yeah, it wasn't a fast shot. He could have just
- 41:41Speaker 2: thrown the hands up.
- 41:42Speaker 1: All right, you heard it here first.
- 41:43Speaker 4: If it was Russell Crowe in that scene.
- 41:45Speaker 2: Exactly, that's what I'm saying. Imagine if Russell Crowe, was
- 41:50Speaker 2: it out at Wimbledon? Rowan. Roland Garros, where he caught
- 41:54Speaker 2: the ball. Imagine if he just let himself get hit
- 41:57Speaker 2: by the ball.
- 41:58Speaker 1: Oh, right, right, right. The gladiator.
- 42:00Speaker 2: Yeah, the gladiator. And then he feigned injury.
- 42:03Speaker 1: Game over. I think he would go out on the
- 42:06Speaker 1: court gladiatorial style and fight Medvedev. Jousting stick. Yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 42:12Speaker 4: Yeah.
- 42:17Speaker 1: That wraps up another stellar edition of Podlabor Arena. We'll
- 42:23Speaker 1: be back next week to talk about the final results
- 42:26Speaker 1: for Beijing and the WTA and the ATP, as well
- 42:31Speaker 1: as what happened in the Tokyo Open. And we'll get
- 42:33Speaker 1: into the Shanghai Masters.
- 42:35Speaker 2: It's all happening.
- 42:36Speaker 1: All right, Lizzie, who do you think is going to
- 42:38Speaker 1: win Demon versus the Joker?
- 42:40Speaker 2: Three sets. Joker will win. Oh. I want Damon to win.
- 42:46Speaker 1: So I think, okay, three sets and you think Djokovic.
- 42:49Speaker 2: No, I'm going to go Damon.
- 42:51Speaker 1: And three.
- 42:52Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 42:52Speaker 1: All right. Well, just to be contrarian, I'm going to
- 42:54Speaker 1: say Djokovic in.
- 42:56Speaker 2: Djokovic in two, okay.
- 42:59Speaker 3: How many birds injured?
- 43:01Speaker 1: Oh, how many spectators injured?
- 43:03Speaker 2: And the two eyes taken out.
- 43:05Speaker 1: Oh, same person?
- 43:06Speaker 2: Yeah, he's back.
- 43:08Speaker 1: That same guy comes back?
- 43:09Speaker 2: That was his compensation.
- 43:10Speaker 1: It'd be awesome if he comes back and he's got
- 43:13Speaker 1: an eyepatch on and then Djokovic just launches one.
- 43:17Speaker 2: That's what would happen in the Seinfeld episode.
- 43:20Speaker 1: My wallet's gone. All right. Well, we'll talk all things
- 43:26Speaker 1: tennis again next week.
- 43:27Speaker 2: Can't wait.
- 43:28Speaker 1: My wallet's gone.
