Transcript
- 0:00BRIAN DERRICK: I'm Brian Derrick.
- 0:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I'm Glennis Meagher.
- 0:02BRIAN DERRICK: Welcome back to Vibes Only.
- 0:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: This week-
- 0:04BRIAN DERRICK: Mike Johnson leaked his plans to destroy all of the programs that we've paid for for years.
- 0:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: And Trump is saying, quelle surprise, that AI regulation is a hoax, and a bunch of our elected officials are saying they don't even know what AI is.
- 0:20BRIAN DERRICK: Plus, Mitch McConnell is back in the Senate.
- 0:23BRIAN DERRICK: He's alive, and potentially high?
- 0:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Doge.
- 0:27BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, do you get that reference?
- 0:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: No.
- 0:29BRIAN DERRICK: I'm alive.
- 0:30BRIAN DERRICK: What's it from?
- 0:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Is that from Drag
- 0:33BRIAN DERRICK: Race?
- 0:33BRIAN DERRICK: No, it's from, uh, House of the Dragon.
- 0:35BRIAN DERRICK: That was funny.
- 0:36BRIAN DERRICK: We have just 47 days until the midterms, and we are launching a fantasy league from Oath where you can win $4,000 cash, baby.
- 0:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: We'll also get into why Brian feels bullish on the House but bearish on the Senate.
- 0:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: And we're reminding you that Doge was a scam.
- 0:56BRIAN DERRICK: And finally, we're gonna talk about Democrats' plans to respond to the accusations that they are communists, and how we're gonna get a fair map in Wisconsin.
- 1:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Do, do-do, do-do.
- 1:11BRIAN DERRICK: Good morning, Glennis.
- 1:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Good afternoon, Brian.
- 1:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm still in Sweden, so-
- 1:15BRIAN DERRICK: True… GLENNIS MEAGHER: it's I have a pitch for you today.
- 1:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: What is it?
- 1:22BRIAN DERRICK: I think we should rename the podcast to the Meagher-Derrick Vibes Only Podcast.
- 1:30BRIAN DERRICK: If you don't rename it, then I'm canceling the show- … and we're never recording another episode.
- 1:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: Wait, what is the inspiration for this rebrand?
- 1:40BRIAN DERRICK: The Kennedy Center, of course.
- 1:42BRIAN DERRICK: Donald Trump- Oh … says he will not allow a renovation to move forward unless his name is on the building.
- 1:49BRIAN DERRICK: We officially have a two-year-old as President of the United States, if we did not know that already.
- 1:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, he's spiraling.
- 1:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's in full spiral mode.
- 1:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, I don't know what's going on.
- 2:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: But he-- I mean, he always seems to reinvent himself, but this time it's just getting dumber and dumber and dumber and dumber, and costing Americans billions of dollars.
- 2:11BRIAN DERRICK: I think I know what's going on.
- 2:14BRIAN DERRICK: 48 days, baby.
- 2:16BRIAN DERRICK: 48 days till the midterms, until karma officially delivers her revenge.
- 2:23BRIAN DERRICK: Should we get into it?
- 2:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: 47.
- 2:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: 47 when this comes out.
- 2:26BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 2:28BRIAN DERRICK: So as you just corrected me, 47 days for our listeners until D-Day, until accountability finally reaches the halls of Congress.
- 2:42BRIAN DERRICK: A primary season is officially over.
- 2:44BRIAN DERRICK: We just had our last primary in Delaware.
- 2:47BRIAN DERRICK: It was a total snooze fest.
- 2:50BRIAN DERRICK: There was basically nothing competitive going on in, in the state.
- 2:55BRIAN DERRICK: It's a blue state.
- 2:56BRIAN DERRICK: But now it is officially general election season.
- 2:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: How do you feel?
- 3:00BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, I mean, there's been a thousand hot takes in the last, like, week or two about where Democrats are at, but they're all universally positive.
- 3:10BRIAN DERRICK: It's just a matter of the degree of positive the Democrats should be feeling.
- 3:15BRIAN DERRICK: There's kind of an interesting split between the qualitative and quantitative forecasters, which we can talk about if we wanna nerd out.
- 3:23BRIAN DERRICK: But first, I think the thing that actually is on everyone's mind, that I'm getting in- Mm-hmm … my DMs every single day is, "What are the percent odds we're gonna win the Senate?
- 3:31BRIAN DERRICK: What are the percent odds we're gonna win the House?" That's what everyone wants to know.
- 3:35BRIAN DERRICK: And what say you?
- 3:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: As, uh, I like to stay in my political lane, I'm cautiously optimistic we can do both.
- 3:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, I, I believe, I truly do believe, but I did read this morning some, some toss-ups that we thought were trending in the right direction potentially are trending in the wrong direction.
- 3:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Are you asking for, like, my percentage of, like, fi- like, 60% chance we win?
- 3:54BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, that's what everyone's asking me.
- 3:57BRIAN DERRICK: But
- 3:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: that's such a weird- I'm, I'm
- 3:57BRIAN DERRICK: not trying to-
- 3:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: I would tell them to shut up… BRIAN DERRICK: it's' GLENNIS MEAGHER: I
- 4:02BRIAN DERRICK: agree.
- 4:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: So that's what I say.
- 4:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: I agree.
- 4:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 4:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I, I think that everyone needs to do everything i- in their individual power.
- 4:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm, I'm particularly focused on the Senate.
- 4:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's where I'm dedicating, like, literally the next 47 days of my life.
- 4:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm going on this, another tour of the battleground states.
- 4:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: I feel bad about the financial deficit the Democrats are in, something you could probably speak to, 'cause that was my question for you.
- 4:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm seeing that we have about $500 million less than the Republicans in the final 47 days towards the election, and that's not even including Elon Musk saying he's putting in 100 million.
- 4:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: So does that worry you?
- 4:40BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 4:40BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, it should worry everyone, but it will affect the races that we're talking about unevenly.
- 4:49BRIAN DERRICK: I think that the huge cash stockpile that Republicans have amassed by being the most corrupt administration and party in the history of the country is really gonna help bring Republicans home.
- 5:06BRIAN DERRICK: And so in the places where we currently have data that Democrats are wildly overperforming and that we have no business competing in, and suddenly it's a tied race, those are exactly the places where money is going to be the most effective at bringing people back into the fold for Republicans because they're gonna spend so much money saying that Democrats are socialists who want to turn your kids into transgender critical race theory professors or whatever the fuck.
- 5:36BRIAN DERRICK: And those are the people who believe it because they already believe that in their heart.
- 5:40BRIAN DERRICK: Those people- Yeah … already are, like, so ready to hear that the Democratic Party is socialist, that that messaging really works.
- 5:48BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 5:48BRIAN DERRICK: And so in a place like- LOL, South Dakota, Idaho, Kansas to a lesser extent, where Republicans are currently seeing tied polls with Democratic challengers- Right or, or independents in, in some of those cases.
- 6:07BRIAN DERRICK: Those are the places where I expect there to be the most movement as they go spend billions of dollars on- Yeah… messaging for the next six weeks.
- 6:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: Are you feeling cautiously optimistic?
- 6:18BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, I feel very optimistic overall.
- 6:19BRIAN DERRICK: I feel- Okay … bullish on the House.
- 6:22BRIAN DERRICK: I feel more bearish on the Senate than I think most people- Okay online feel, as well as, like, the New York Times poll.
- 6:30BRIAN DERRICK: Quick recap there.
- 6:31BRIAN DERRICK: We have, we have to hold our seats in Minnesota, Michigan, New Hampshire, and Georgia, and then we have to flip four additional seats, which would most likely be North Carolina, Ohio, Maine, Alaska, and then you have Iowa and Texas sort of potentially out of reach.
- 6:51BRIAN DERRICK: So I'm not banking on the Senate.
- 6:54BRIAN DERRICK: We've been saying that for a year and a half.
- 6:55BRIAN DERRICK: Not banking on the Senate.
- 6:56BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 6:56BRIAN DERRICK: Have to win the House, and I feel great about our chances to score a double-digit margin in the House.
- 7:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Great.
- 7:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see that Mike Johnson clip that's going viral again about the midterms?
- 7:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: And he's like, "You, you don't want, you don't wanna know what they're gonna do to us.
- 7:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're gonna impeach us left and right.
- 7:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're gonna hold the trials." If
- 7:16MIKE JOHNSON: we were to, if we were to lose the midterms, heaven forbid, these Democrats, y'all, impeachment's not even the big concern.
- 7:21MIKE JOHNSON: They will turn every committee of Congress into an investigative body, and they'll go after the president's family, the cabinet, his donors, and friends.
- 7:27MIKE JOHNSON: Half of you in this room will be targeted.
- 7:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: And I had posted, like, "Manifesting."
- 7:33BRIAN DERRICK: Did you see the other Mike Johnson quote from this week that leaked, him saying-
- 7:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: No… " BRIAN DERRICK: Post-midterms, we're Social Security, Medicare, Medicaid more." He had a call get, get leaked, I think with a donor.
- 7:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: So they're doing themselves no favors, and that's why I brought up- No favors the Kennedy thing too, is- Yeah… for them to be in the position that we're in, that we're describing right now, where Dems are positioned to flip the House, Dems are gonna come at least close in the, in the Senate.
- 8:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: For them to be focused on renaming the Kennedy Center and Cutting more programs, like, is just a wild, wild midterm strategy.
- 8:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Totally.
- 8:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: And you know, I was listening to The Daily, that was kind of their follow-up to the, the midterm Siena poll they had put out.
- 8:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think it was a Sunday publication.
- 8:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: And how for, like, the first time ever Republicans are polling as the elitists.
- 8:31GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like p- voters view Republicans as elitists.
- 8:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: And for years, you know, Democrats are viewed that way as these Ivy League college-educated elite people, you know, coastal elites.
- 8:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: We've heard that many, many times.
- 8:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: And the cause for that is because you're seeing Donald Trump get rich.
- 8:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're seeing his family get rich.
- 8:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're seeing people around him get rich.
- 8:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're seeing his friends, friends getting contracts, all while the American people are not getting rich.
- 8:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you read the Axios this morning where the Republican memo was leaked for the data center talking points?
- 9:03BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 9:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's like they're like, "Don't, don't talk about him like that." Like
- 9:12BRIAN DERRICK: it's- Please stop saying that you're gonna defend data centers.
- 9:15BRIAN DERRICK: Please stop.
- 9:17BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, totally.
- 9:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's so cringe.
- 9:20BRIAN DERRICK: On that note, we have to, have to, have to mention the bombshell ProPublica piece that just came out showing that Donald Trump Jr.'s wedding was paid for by a Russian oligarch who's friends with Putin.
- 9:38BRIAN DERRICK: What?
- 9:40BRIAN DERRICK: I don't
- 9:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: even-
- 9:40BRIAN DERRICK: What are we doing here?
- 9:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: I haven't read the full article, but this in my, uh, politically adjacent, like, not actually people working in the political field, but my friends who are, like, in the know, this went viral in that group chat because it is just so insane.
- 9:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's
- 9:59BRIAN DERRICK: not even believable.
- 10:00BRIAN DERRICK: If it weren't-- If there weren't receipts, you wouldn't believe it.
- 10:04BRIAN DERRICK: That it-- But, but also it, it-- I say that, but then, like, it's so believable when you look at everything that this administration has done.
- 10:10BRIAN DERRICK: It's completely on brand.
- 10:11BRIAN DERRICK: But like- 2015 me would just never believe that that's a possible thing that could happen.
- 10:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Shocking.
- 10:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Shocking to think about how the world responded or Republicans responded to Hunter's laptop.
- 10:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Meanwhile, Trump's son gets a multimillion-dollar wedding payrolled by a Russian oligarch who is friends with presumed-- Like, our, our enemy.
- 10:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, Russia is not our friend.
- 10:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 10:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is- A
- 10:40BRIAN DERRICK: thug dictator, yeah.
- 10:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 10:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's crazy.
- 10:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: I have to read that piece till I saw it, and I was like… I guess to your point, I wasn't, like, shocked.
- 10:48GLENNIS MEAGHER: I was like, "Here we are." But we can't, we can't, like, normalize these things.
- 10:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: We have to keep talking about them because it is so insane.
- 10:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: And by the way, he could afford to pay for that wedding if he wanted to 'cause he's so corrupt that he's getting millions of dollars a year now 'cause his daddy's president, and he's sitting on the- The drone contracts alone … Chinese random drone.
- 11:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: The drone- I know.
- 11:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, it's actually absurd, and this should piss everyone off.
- 11:11BRIAN DERRICK: Corruption is the vibe, and it is Democrats' path back to the coalition that we need i- not only to win in a couple of weeks, but also in 2028 and beyond, is, like, that is how you realign incentives and policy, is to really focus on the corruption that has taken place in this administration.
- 11:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Completely agree.
- 11:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is literal crooks in the administration and crooks who are running for office.
- 11:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Ken Paxton, impeached by his own party for corruption, is now the Republican candidate for Senate in Texas.
- 11:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: Insanity.
- 11:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: Meanwhile, Mike Johnson saying that he's gonna cut all the things that we've worked so hard to have as Americans.
- 11:59BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, wait.
- 11:59BRIAN DERRICK: Where do you wanna go?
- 12:00BRIAN DERRICK: AI?
- 12:01BRIAN DERRICK: Oh, yeah.
- 12:02BRIAN DERRICK: Let's talk about the end of the world.
- 12:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 12:03BRIAN DERRICK: Would you rather have an AI launch a nuclear strike against you or an AI generate a bioweapon that kills you in your bed?
- 12:16BRIAN DERRICK: What do you think?
- 12:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, no bullshit, I w- I genuinely thought about this this morning because last night I was thinking about-- 'Cause Senator Kennedy, John Kennedy, who… Listen, he's a, he's a ba- a bad Republican, but if you've ever watched supercuts of him on TikTok, he should've just been a comedian.
- 12:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: He is out of control.
- 12:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Anyway, he's introducing a, a kill safe bill for AI.
- 12:39BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 12:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Because the AI is literally taking over.
- 12:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: I thought, I, I don't have an answer to this 'cause I'm like, I'd rather AI kill me by like, 'cause you know like the paperclip thing?
- 12:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: Whatever.
- 12:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's like-
- 12:53BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 12:53BRIAN DERRICK: What does that mean?
- 12:54GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's a, it's a philosophical study about AI.
- 12:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: If they're given a task, they'll do anything in its, in their power to complete the task, if that, even if that includes, like, killing humans.
- 13:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I think I'd rather go in a nuke.
- 13:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Is that w- is that the question?
- 13:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like an
- 13:10BRIAN DERRICK: AI- That's
- 13:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: the question the
- 13:11BRIAN DERRICK: AI
- 13:11GLENNIS MEAGHER: hit the go button?
- 13:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 13:12BRIAN DERRICK: I would pick door number three, and I want literal AI robots to come fight me.
- 13:18BRIAN DERRICK: Like, I want my, I want my vacuum, my robot vacuum cleaner to, like, revolt and have an uprising in my house and set my house on fire or something.
- 13:27BRIAN DERRICK: I feel like that's the most dramatic way.
- 13:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: Have you seen, have you seen any of the videos of the humanoids dancing in China?
- 13:33BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 13:34BRIAN DERRICK: They had one… Wait.
- 13:35BRIAN DERRICK: The- They had a, they had one outside of my office building this week.
- 13:40BRIAN DERRICK: I'm not joking.
- 13:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's
- 13:40BRIAN DERRICK: not- I walked up to my office building and there was a humanoid robot, whatever we're calling those, doing a little dance and, like, interacting with people on the street, and a robot dog as well, with marketing.
- 13:56BRIAN DERRICK: They were marketing some company.
- 13:57BRIAN DERRICK: Um…
- 13:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't like it.
- 14:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't like it.
- 14:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: I l- the dancing humanoids- I
- 14:02BRIAN DERRICK: kicked it right in the head.
- 14:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: Good.
- 14:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: The dancing humanoids make me laugh, but then when I see the, the ones that are doing kung fu, I'm like,"That, that would take me right out." If I got one of those robot- Nothing- arms to the neck.
- 14:17BRIAN DERRICK: Nothing fucks me up more than seeing them run.
- 14:21BRIAN DERRICK: I'm like- Yeah.
- 14:22BRIAN DERRICK: … if one of those things is chasing you, you are cooked.
- 14:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: You're, you're dead.
- 14:27BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, well, to be honest- Yeah … all you have to do is turn, because clearly- Yeah … they cannot stop and they cannot turn.
- 14:34BRIAN DERRICK: But if you are running in a straight line in a hallway and one is after you, sir, you might be in trouble.
- 14:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, it's like what they tell you with alligators or crocodiles.
- 14:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: If one of them's chasing you, you have to zigzag.
- 14:47BRIAN DERRICK: I think that's fake.
- 14:48BRIAN DERRICK: Do that with- I don't think that's real.
- 14:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's totally… When it's just a way to embarrass yourself before you're eat, eaten alive by an alligator.
- 14:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Anyway, okay, so the AI.
- 14:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: There are concerns that the AI is gonna kill us.
- 15:00BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 15:01BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 15:02BRIAN DERRICK: It's definitely hit an, a fever pitch in the last two weeks, mainly because this guy who worked at-
- 15:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Anthropic for, like, a month… BRIAN DERRICK: Anthropic.
- 15:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 15:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh, wait.
- 15:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Was it a month?
- 15:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: I didn't know that.
- 15:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: He wasn't there for a long time at all.
- 15:16BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, I didn't know that.
- 15:17BRIAN DERRICK: Well, he's the one who really kicked the hornet's nest Gets on TV, says, "I'm in the algorithms.
- 15:22BRIAN DERRICK: I'm in, I'm in the shit. I'm an engineer, and there's a more than 10% chance that this is gonna kill us by…" Is it within the decade or by the end of the decade?
- 15:34BRIAN DERRICK: Whatever.
- 15:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Potato,
- 15:35BRIAN DERRICK: potato.
- 15:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: You know?
- 15:37BRIAN DERRICK: And that seemed to really spook a lot of people, where it started picking up a lot of steam online.
- 15:43BRIAN DERRICK: Members of Congress definitely perked their ears up at that, but then what I think has really changed the conversation is the heads of AI companies coming out and saying,"We agree. We want regulation.
- 15:57BRIAN DERRICK: We want a slowdown." And multiple heads of, of AI companies have come out and said some ver- some version of that, particularly as it relates to super intelligence, which we can talk about.
- 16:10BRIAN DERRICK: And then final, final sort of act of the saga, Donald Trump comes out, of course, and says AI regulation is a hoax.
- 16:20BRIAN DERRICK: Hoax,
- 16:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: yeah.
- 16:22BRIAN DERRICK: Which they had an interesting study of, like, there are actually very few things that Donald Trump will refer to as a hoax.
- 16:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: Huh.
- 16:29BRIAN DERRICK: He saves that word for the things that he hates the most, so he seems very dug in.
- 16:33BRIAN DERRICK: Talk about confusing, terrible messaging and strategy ahead of the midterms.
- 16:38BRIAN DERRICK: And now we have a Congress that is seemingly paralyzed, Republicans who won't do anything to piss off daddy- Mm-hmm … and a president who has no interest in basic safeguards because he has David Sacks whispering in his ear, telling him, "Faster, faster, more, more, more, more, more, money, money, money, money, money." And, uh, it's making them all billionaires.
- 17:00GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, and for those who don't know, David Sacks is, like, the AI crypto czar or whatever.
- 17:05BRIAN DERRICK: And a billionaire.
- 17:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Also, did you read the… Oh, you read Axios every morning, but when they were asking, uh, Congress people about AI and if they use it, and they're, like, 75 years old and they're like, "No, it comes up on my phone sometimes." My favorite was Senator Roger Wicker, who is from Mississippi, he's 75.
- 17:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's the chair of the Armed Services Committee.
- 17:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's-- When he asked if, if he was using AI, he said, "Heavens, no." Mind you, three weeks ago, I was listening to retired General David Petraeus, who Russia tried to kill.
- 17:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't know if you saw that?
- 17:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: The, his, the train that he was supposed to be on got bombed in Ukraine.
- 17:45BRIAN DERRICK: Recently?
- 17:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, yeah, a drone attack- No, I haven't s- … that had- I haven't seen that … and Boris, Boris Johnson.
- 17:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Anyway, he did this whole… I was listening to, like, The Economist or something, and he was talking about how with Iran and with Ukraine, we're seeing how drones are kind of the warfare of the future, and AI-controlled autonomous drones are probably the warfare weapons of the future.
- 18:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: And here we have our chair of the Armed Services Committee saying,"Heavens, no, I've never used AI."
- 18:15BRIAN DERRICK: No
- 18:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: Shouldn't you?
- 18:16BRIAN DERRICK: Glennis, the quotes are bananas.
- 18:19GLENNIS MEAGHER: The heroin one?
- 18:21BRIAN DERRICK: Holy shit.
- 18:23BRIAN DERRICK: That was from Frank Pallone.
- 18:24BRIAN DERRICK: Frank Pallone, who's 74, ranking Democrat on House Energy and Commerce.
- 18:33BRIAN DERRICK: "You don't need to do drugs like heroin to know they should be regulated Oh my God, sir I
- 18:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: know
- 18:41BRIAN DERRICK: Sir
- 18:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know
- 18:43BRIAN DERRICK: Get a grip.
- 18:44BRIAN DERRICK: It's so embarrassing.
- 18:45BRIAN DERRICK: Get a grip.
- 18:45BRIAN DERRICK: And this is why we have been trying to die on the Hill, or get m- maybe some other people to die on the Hill, that we need generational change, that we need people leading on the issues who understand the issues, who- Yeah … it's not just about whether you have searched something on ChatGPT.
- 19:03BRIAN DERRICK: It's about having the context and the deep expertise to have the imagination of what AI could do to our economy and to our world, and the types of threats that it could pose.
- 19:16BRIAN DERRICK: If you literally don't even know what it can do, how it operates, what it is- Yeah … who makes it, how they make it, like, how can you be expected to look three years down the road, which is not that long- Yeah at the pace that we're currently moving, predict the threats, and come up with the right solutions.
- 19:39BRIAN DERRICK: Like, get the fuck out of office.
- 19:41BRIAN DERRICK: I'm sorry, but-
- 19:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah… BRIAN DERRICK: it's- Get a grip… BRIAN DERRICK: it's time.
- 19:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Get real.
- 19:45BRIAN DERRICK: Before we move on, Maxine Waters, who we've talked about before- Oh … is 88, running for reelection- I saw that … had arguably the best response when asked if she uses AI.
- 19:54BRIAN DERRICK: She said, "I don't know. I can't remember."
- 19:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Great.
- 19:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: And mind you- Be super
- 20:00BRIAN DERRICK: real right now
- 20:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Be super real, and, like, we have been saying this for a long time, 'cause we are AI users, but even if you don't think you're using AI, AI is using you.
- 20:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is on your phone.
- 20:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is in your search engines.
- 20:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is getting your data.
- 20:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is learning your habits.
- 20:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: So you need to be aware of why it needs to be regulated.
- 20:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: And for those who might not know, and by the way, if you don't wanna use AI, don't use AI.
- 20:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's fine.
- 20:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: But AI now, for sure, in this current moment, has the power to completely shut down electrical grids, could completely shut down nuclear facilities.
- 20:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is extremely powerful, and the fact that these AI CEOs now, Brian, are like, "Oh yeah, yeah, yeah, we gotta, we gotta slow it down," and it's like you're saying that because you see the public pressure, and this one guy who was there for less than 90 days is like, "Hey, it's actually pretty fucked up.
- 20:56GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, we should probably do something about this." It's crazy to me.
- 20:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: And then on top of it, this is the last thing I'll say, but there was a whole kind of internet conspiracy on this too that, like, they were… Everyone was like,"It's awfully convenient this guy who's only worked at a company for 30 days and you've never heard of before is saying all of this right before Anthropic or ChatGPT's IPO.
- 21:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: He's just trying to tank it.
- 21:20GLENNIS MEAGHER: And it's like, who, who cares, one, and then also he's correct that we have to regulate it.
- 21:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: We just need elected officials who understand the threats of, of current day society.
- 21:30BRIAN DERRICK: 100%.
- 21:31BRIAN DERRICK: I do just wanna give a shout-out.
- 21:32BRIAN DERRICK: Alex Bores, who- I
- 21:34GLENNIS MEAGHER: saw… BRIAN DERRICK: I supported for lost in June, just launched a new effort called Who Decides, which is all about regulating AI, after the AI industry spent a record amount of money trying to defeat him in the primary.
- 21:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: Wait, Glennis, did you watch… Wait, will you just go… I'm just gonna send it to you so that it's live- Okay … as you react to it.
- 21:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm sending it to you too, Jason.
- 21:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Wait, I saw this.
- 22:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you, did you see it?
- 22:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Oh my God, I was screaming.
- 22:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: I love him already.
- 22:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah,
- 22:05BRIAN DERRICK: but I didn't watch it.
- 22:06BRIAN DERRICK: Wait, wait.
- 22:07BRIAN DERRICK: Put the volume on and react to it, and then I want Jason to play a clip.
- 22:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 22:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let me… Okay.
- 22:11VINNY THOMAS: My name is Vinny Thomas, and I just quit my job at the Boiling People Alive Factory after it became abundantly clear that this technology could be used to boil people alive I spent over five years as a product designer at the Boiling People Alive Factory.
- 22:29VINNY THOMAS: I designed the big pots that we would use to boil people alive.
- 22:33VINNY THOMAS: However, as I was developing the big pots, it became abundantly clear that they could be used to boil people alive.
- 22:40VINNY THOMAS: In fact, I would say there is a greater than 10% chance that we will all fit in the big pots I designed and will be boiled alive.
- 22:49VINNY THOMAS: It's so good.
- 22:49VINNY THOMAS: And I just wanted to get on here and let you all know that ultimately, if someone doesn't get in there and start drilling holes in the pots, we're all gonna be soup.
- 23:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: No, but this is literally- We're all gonna be soup.
- 23:03GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's like capitalism, like… Yeah.
- 23:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's, it's capitalism.
- 23:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's so good.
- 23:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's so good.
- 23:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: Right?
- 23:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, people have jo- Like a- Have you seen what Anthropic pays?
- 23:12BRIAN DERRICK: Oh yeah, it's bananas.
- 23:13BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, people are getting… It's like minting billionaires, and then also people are getting equity packages like right off the bat worth millions of dollars.
- 23:21BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah,
- 23:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: yeah.
- 23:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, with like a, a probably like a six-month vest, you know what I mean?
- 23:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's like the entry level jobs are $250,000.
- 23:29BRIAN DERRICK: It, it is a little on the nose when someone is the whistleblower who's like building the thing.
- 23:37BRIAN DERRICK: We, we need those people.
- 23:38BRIAN DERRICK: We do need those people who are on the inside who know, but also you did choose to go there at exactly the time that everyone knew that this was the situation.
- 23:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: Money wins.
- 23:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: In America, money wins.
- 23:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: But- Yeah … hopefully not in the midterms.
- 23:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Hopefully not- Right … in the midterms is all I have to say because we the people have power.
- 24:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Well,
- 24:01BRIAN DERRICK: we the people.
- 24:03BRIAN DERRICK: Another reason that we're going to win the midterms, maybe a few other reasons- Mm … that Dems are, are well positioned to win the midterms.
- 24:11BRIAN DERRICK: First, we got a favorable ruling from the Supreme Court, as we've been saying for months, that we would get from a SCOTUS on the USPS rule.
- 24:24BRIAN DERRICK: So there will not be a USPS role in screening ballots that are sent via mail, obviously.
- 24:33BRIAN DERRICK: I have- Because that's absurd… GLENNIS MEAGHER: I have to, I Truth Social tweet twat from Trump.
- 24:42BRIAN DERRICK: Okay?
- 24:43BRIAN DERRICK: Are
- 24:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: we calling them twats?
- 24:44BRIAN DERRICK: This was insane.
- 24:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: I don't know.
- 24:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: I just like was like, "Why not add some alliteration there?" Okay.
- 24:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: Quote, this is from the President of the United States of America,"These are not the people I interview to serve on the United States Supreme Court. They are merely a shell of their original selves, a court that is costing the United States trillions of dollars." Editor's note, Trump has made at least 2.2, if not 3 billion more to date since he took office again.
- 25:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: "With shockingly bad rulings that are of such magnitude that it won't be easily possible for our country to recover or heal He's insane.
- 25:25BRIAN DERRICK: Okay
- 25:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: He'll-
- 25:26BRIAN DERRICK: I'm still stuck on what do you call a tweet on Truth Social?
- 25:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: A shwat.
- 25:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: A shwat.
- 25:34BRIAN DERRICK: Shwat.
- 25:35BRIAN DERRICK: I think that is so fucking funny.
- 25:37BRIAN DERRICK: Why don't we call them that?
- 25:38BRIAN DERRICK: I love that
- 25:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: you think I'm funny.
- 25:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 25:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: I mean-
- 25:40BRIAN DERRICK: Holy shit.
- 25:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's… M- yeah, mind you, he, like, didn't write that.
- 25:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Natalie probably wrote it, you know?
- 25:46BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 25:47BRIAN DERRICK: So he's having a meltdown over it.
- 25:49BRIAN DERRICK: MAGA is having a meltdown over it.
- 25:50BRIAN DERRICK: It will continue to be used by them to try to undermine trust in our elections, which is its own crisis that anything we do basically feeds into at this point.
- 26:01BRIAN DERRICK: It's horrific.
- 26:02BRIAN DERRICK: But importantly, people can cast their ballots via mail, and they will be counted.
- 26:07BRIAN DERRICK: That is happening.
- 26:07BRIAN DERRICK: That's one.
- 26:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's great.
- 26:10BRIAN DERRICK: The second thing that's happening, that will have happened by the time people hear this, which we do not know yet, is a decision as to whether they're going to raise interest rates at the Fed.
- 26:22BRIAN DERRICK: Hmm.
- 26:22BRIAN DERRICK: This is a really big deal because Donald Trump, for over a year, as he was launching criminal investigations into Jay Powell, the former chair of the Fed, has been pushing for a rate cut, that he wants to hand out more free money to people because it's what juices the economy and GDP.
- 26:42BRIAN DERRICK: But they're gonna have to raise the rates because he has personally caused more inflation than any individual in modern history by launching a war with Iran that he's losing, that has almost doubled the price of gas, like, the-- which has increased the cost of diesel to a record amount, which has increased the cost of literally everything.
- 27:04BRIAN DERRICK: So inflation is forcing the Fed's hand.
- 27:07BRIAN DERRICK: They're likely going to raise interest rates, harder for people to buy houses, cars, start businesses, all kinds of things, which is also really bad for the economy
- 27:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 27:18GLENNIS MEAGHER: Trump and MAGA Republicans ran and won on lowering your cost of living and no new wars.
- 27:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: And two years later, because of their corruption, groceries are up 4%, your electrical bill- Wow is up more than $200.
- 27:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Gas is up 27% just in this year because of the war, and your health insurance premiums are up 50% on average with deductibles up more than $1,000.
- 27:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: So ladies and gentlemen, Trump lied to you.
- 27:46BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, totally.
- 27:46BRIAN DERRICK: I looked it up.
- 27:47BRIAN DERRICK: The month before Trump took office, the national gas price average was 2.99, and now this week it's about 4.40 and pushing up because there's been an additional choke point, a pipeline that was attacked, which is the number one way to sort of go around the Strait of Hormuz or like to continue moving oil when the Strait of Hormuz is closed.
- 28:14BRIAN DERRICK: That has now been attacked, and like the Houthis are like seizing land up and down the coast.
- 28:20BRIAN DERRICK: So it's getting worse, not better, which is why futures are up as well.
- 28:24BRIAN DERRICK: People are predicting that it's gonna get more and more expensive, not less.
- 28:27GLENNIS MEAGHER: The one-
- 28:27BRIAN DERRICK: Bad for Trump … last thing I wanna ask you- Bad, bad, bad
- 28:29GLENNIS MEAGHER: when Trump straight up said, "I'll give every American $5,000 if Republicans- Oh my gosh … win in the midterms."
- 28:37BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah.
- 28:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Number one, if he can do that, why not just do it right now?
- 28:43GLENNIS MEAGHER: Why is it a carrot that you're dangling to steal and rig an election?
- 28:50BRIAN DERRICK: Right.
- 28:50GLENNIS MEAGHER: And of course, it's illegal.
- 28:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: I saw that and I was like, "Oh, you're insane, and so corrupt." And also when he had at the Republican convention in Dallas, when he had that culty like pledge allegiance to Donald Trump, I was like, people, people have Trump Derangement Syndrome.
- 29:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: They try and say that if you hate Trump, you have Trump Derangement Syndrome.
- 29:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: They have Trump Derangement Syndrome.
- 29:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: They're sick in the head.
- 29:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: The
- 29:15BRIAN DERRICK: $5,000 checks are so desperate.
- 29:16BRIAN DERRICK: It's so embarrassing.
- 29:18BRIAN DERRICK: He still owes-- People have been posting all kinds of content about like he's promised rebate checks for tariffs.
- 29:24BRIAN DERRICK: He's promised pandemic relief checks back in the day that never came.
- 29:27BRIAN DERRICK: He's promised all kinds of cash incentives that have never arrived.
- 29:33BRIAN DERRICK: Uh, people have no reason to believe that this would be any different.
- 29:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah, he's lying to you.
- 29:38GLENNIS MEAGHER: So now we'll do some Clickbait DoubleClick.
- 29:40GLENNIS MEAGHER: For those who don't remember, this is where Brian and I run through some headlines, and we tell you if it's worth caring about or not.
- 29:48BRIAN DERRICK: Okay, I'll start.
- 29:49GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 29:51BRIAN DERRICK: Mitch McConnell returns to the Senate after his three-month absence.
- 29:58GLENNIS MEAGHER: But is it him?
- 29:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Is it not maybe someone who has a skin suit on?
- 30:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, it is so depressing.
- 30:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's clickbait, but this is a point you've made and Emily Amick has made quite a bit online, is he was more helpful to us in-
- 30:11BRIAN DERRICK: Missing.
- 30:12GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah … preliminary hospice care or whatever.
- 30:15BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, he came back to cast a tie-breaking vote.
- 30:17BRIAN DERRICK: So it's not good- But- … that he's back… GLENNIS MEAGHER: did you see my God … zoomed in on his face?
- 30:24BRIAN DERRICK: It is- He's just like … No, it's, there's nothing in his head.
- 30:29BRIAN DERRICK: Like, it's- Whatever they gave Biden for that State of the Union three years ago, do you remember that?
- 30:35BRIAN DERRICK: No.
- 30:35BRIAN DERRICK: When he came out and was like-
- 30:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Do I?
- 30:37GLENNIS MEAGHER: "Rah." Yeah.
- 30:38BRIAN DERRICK: They OD'd Mitch McConnell on that.
- 30:40BRIAN DERRICK: He is- Yeah … absolutely in La La Land.
- 30:43BRIAN DERRICK: It's crazy.
- 30:45BRIAN DERRICK: It's sad.
- 30:45BRIAN DERRICK: I will say, this would be a double click if old, old Dems would step aside, like we've been begging them to do, and we had, like, a generational change happening this cycle, where 30 to 40 House Dems in their s- 80s were stepping down and being replaced by people in their 40s.
- 31:07BRIAN DERRICK: Then it would be a double click.
- 31:08BRIAN DERRICK: Then it would be like, "Let's go all in on this. This is a single party issue now that Republicans have to deal with." But unfortunately, that doesn't bode well for us because we have- Yeah … more old people than they do.
- 31:20BRIAN DERRICK: So unfortunate.
- 31:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Ugh.
- 31:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 31:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 31:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: Kash Patel suggests FBI agents could go to election polling sites.
- 31:31BRIAN DERRICK: I think this is clickbait.
- 31:32BRIAN DERRICK: They actually don't have the capacity to send FBI agents to every polling location.
- 31:39BRIAN DERRICK: They could obviously target specific ones, but it's not the thing that I'm the most worried about.
- 31:47BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, they can't show up everywhere, and they could try and target, like, specific areas to try to depress turnout, but I actually think that that's less likely than other potential scenarios that could unfold with the midterms.
- 32:03BRIAN DERRICK: So I'm gonna say click it.
- 32:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 32:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did you see Kash Patel's hearing, by the way, where he-
- 32:09BRIAN DERRICK: I saw clips of it about bestiality, to your point about John Kennedy being a jokester.
- 32:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 32:15GLENNIS MEAGHER: It's basically the FBI is no longer disqualifying candidates based on past prostitution or bestiality.
- 32:23GLENNIS MEAGHER: Kash Patel's reasoning for that is it's like to protect traffickers, so if a trafficker or former-- someone who was formerly trafficked wants to be an FBI agent, like they're not gonna hold it against them.
- 32:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm-- I have no comment on this.
- 32:34BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 32:34BRIAN DERRICK: I have one for you.
- 32:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 32:37BRIAN DERRICK: The Trump administration spent $10 billion paying people to not work for the federal government because DOGE put them on leave in 2025.
- 32:50BRIAN DERRICK: So we spent $10 billion on people doing nothing for- Double click … because the Department of Government Efficiency-
- 32:59GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah
- 32:59BRIAN DERRICK: told them to stop working.
- 33:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double-- Yeah.
- 33:02GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double click for exactly that reason.
- 33:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is-- it's a complete failure on behalf of the Trump administration to the American people to waste our taxpayer dollars in that way and to cut… We, we've, we've talked about DOGE quite a bit on this podcast, and the really, really important services that were, were cut, whether it be USAID or you look at even like election protection within the government.
- 33:24GLENNIS MEAGHER: There's now zero people who are overseeing the safety and fairness of our elections because they were cut in DOGE.
- 33:32GLENNIS MEAGHER: Double click.
- 33:33GLENNIS MEAGHER: It is just, what a waste of money while your life is getting more expensive.
- 33:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 33:39GLENNIS MEAGHER: Wasting your taxpayer dollars that you worked so hard to give to the United States government that is completely disregarded and is, is used so inefficiently.
- 33:48BRIAN DERRICK: I completely agree.
- 33:50BRIAN DERRICK: It's a double click.
- 33:51BRIAN DERRICK: The total amount that the Department of Justice has identified in Minnesota as fraudulent is around 800 million.
- 34:00BRIAN DERRICK: So the entire country stopped and freaked out over the 800 million that was potentially stolen in Minnesota.
- 34:08BRIAN DERRICK: Terrible.
- 34:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: Hmm.
- 34:09BRIAN DERRICK: Meanwhile, they spent$10 billion paying people to not work for the federal government.
- 34:18BRIAN DERRICK: That's fraud.
- 34:19BRIAN DERRICK: Like, that is the real fraud.
- 34:21BRIAN DERRICK: DOGE was a scam, and they actually used it to access all of this extremely sensitive government data, and then they left the government to go start companies with that data.
- 34:33BRIAN DERRICK: Like, it's insane.
- 34:36BRIAN DERRICK: It's such-- Like, talk about waste, fraud, abuse.
- 34:38BRIAN DERRICK: It was literally part of their DNA from the beginning.
- 34:41GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's crazy.
- 34:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: I didn't realize they started the companies with the data that they fleeced from the United States government.
- 34:46GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yes.
- 34:47BRIAN DERRICK: Yes.
- 34:48BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, they, like, went into these systems and then went and built systems using the knowledge that they stole from Social Security and other shit.
- 34:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: We got a lot of work to do in '27 to convince, to, to teach more people about this.
- 35:01GLENNIS MEAGHER: Last one, it's stupid.
- 35:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I know what it's gonna be.
- 35:05GLENNIS MEAGHER: Republicans facing midterm peril try to brand Democrats as communists.
- 35:10BRIAN DERRICK: Double click.
- 35:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'm shook.
- 35:13GLENNIS MEAGHER: Did
- 35:13BRIAN DERRICK: I-
- 35:14GLENNIS MEAGHER: Why?
- 35:14BRIAN DERRICK: Did I throw, did I throw you for a loop?
- 35:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 35:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: Let's talk about it.
- 35:19BRIAN DERRICK: I mean, to our, to our previous point on the midterm spending, that is what all this money is gonna be put behind.
- 35:29BRIAN DERRICK: That is the attack of the cycle.
- 35:31BRIAN DERRICK: Mm-hmm.
- 35:32BRIAN DERRICK: So Democrats have to have a meaningful answer to it.
- 35:38BRIAN DERRICK: The, the answer does not have to be that we're super capitalists and we're all Josh Gottheimer and we're Republican light, which is why the left would say that is clickbait.
- 35:49BRIAN DERRICK: But you do have to have a compelling response because it has shown in battleground districts in specific instances to be an effective line of attack.
- 36:02BRIAN DERRICK: So to that extent, I would say a double click until we're sure the Democrats can actually get their messaging together.
- 36:10GLENNIS MEAGHER: And there's also a fair amount of very, very left online dialogue of like communists aren't that bad.
- 36:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: To which I say to them literally in their comments, "Tell me your thoughts on the Great Leap Forward." where up-upwards of 40 million Chinese people died because of government mismanagement, torture, famine Not to be a downer, but like- Are,
- 36:37BRIAN DERRICK: are we going there?
- 36:38BRIAN DERRICK: Are we going there right now?
- 36:41BRIAN DERRICK: Yeah, I certainly don't think that we want to be debating the merits of communism 47 days before the midterm election cycle.
- 36:51GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 36:51BRIAN DERRICK: The goal for sure should be to pivot the conversation back to what Donald Trump is doing, the corruption of the administration, and how to make life more affordable in the, in the United States when it feels like we're on a hamster wheel.
- 37:08BRIAN DERRICK: Having an effective ways to, to do that, that are believable and authentic to the candidate will determine whether we're winning in R plus eight seats or only R plus two seats this cycle.
- 37:21GLENNIS MEAGHER: Which I agree.
- 37:22GLENNIS MEAGHER: Speaking of, Brian, do you have an Oath Candidate of the Week?
- 37:27BRIAN DERRICK: Our Oath Candidate of the Week this week, you get to decide.
- 37:32BRIAN DERRICK: We are launching a really fun new tool that people can go play with right now called The Democracy Draft.
- 37:42BRIAN DERRICK: And with The Democracy Draft, you can make a prediction as to who you think is going to win the top races of the cycle, Abdul El-Sayed in Michigan- Ooh … Troy Jackson in Maine.
- 37:56BRIAN DERRICK: It goes all the way through the really tough House seats.
- 38:00BRIAN DERRICK: You make a forecast, and the- Hmm … whoever gets the closest gets$4,000 at the end of the election.
- 38:09GLENNIS MEAGHER: That you've put back into Oath?
- 38:12BRIAN DERRICK: No, you get cash money.
- 38:13BRIAN DERRICK: Ah.
- 38:14BRIAN DERRICK: It's a prize.
- 38:16GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's really interesting.
- 38:17GLENNIS MEAGHER: So do you have to donate to candidates to enroll yourself?
- 38:21BRIAN DERRICK: No, but once you pick who you think is going to win all of these races, we will send you a link so that you can donate to the ones that you picked to make sure that they win, so you're right.
- 38:33BRIAN DERRICK: It's like March Madness for the midterms.
- 38:35GLENNIS MEAGHER: Yeah.
- 38:36GLENNIS MEAGHER: What I would, like, recommend is that people put it back into candidates, but that's me being holier-than-thou.
- 38:42GLENNIS MEAGHER: If you want your 4K- I mean-… that's a nice little vacation.
- 38:44BRIAN DERRICK: But you're getting your 4K post-election, so the candidates will have already won or lost.
- 38:50BRIAN DERRICK: But you can give it to a presidential campaign.
- 38:52GLENNIS MEAGHER: That's what I mean.
- 38:53GLENNIS MEAGHER: The-- T.
- 38:54BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 38:54BRIAN DERRICK: Okay.
- 38:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: After November 3rd, 2026, to me, the pre- the presidential starts.
- 39:02BRIAN DERRICK: T. That is coming up fast, let me tell you.
- 39:07BRIAN DERRICK: So if you want to enter a guess for what you think is gonna happen in the midterms, go to thedemocracydraft.com and submit your bracket, and you might win $4,000.
- 39:24BRIAN DERRICK: It's free to enter.
- 39:25GLENNIS MEAGHER: I have one more question.
- 39:26GLENNIS MEAGHER: Can you do pools?
- 39:28GLENNIS MEAGHER: Like, can you be like, "Me and 20 people wanna go in, and then we win the pool"?
- 39:32BRIAN DERRICK: You can start side leagues, yes- Okay … just like you can with March Madness, and you can set a goal or prize for the winner of your side league, too.
- 39:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: Okay.
- 39:44GLENNIS MEAGHER: So
- 39:44BRIAN DERRICK: it's both.
- 39:45GLENNIS MEAGHER: And speaking of friends, something I'm gonna be saying now basically every episode until election day is text your friends and make sure they know about the elections happening in their state, in their district.
- 39:55GLENNIS MEAGHER: Make sure they have a voting plan.
- 39:57GLENNIS MEAGHER: People are, are 80% more likely to go vote if someone texts them to remind them and do it.
- 40:04BRIAN DERRICK: Hell yeah.
- 40:04GLENNIS MEAGHER: I'll be texting you, Brian.
- 40:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: What's your voting plan?
- 40:07BRIAN DERRICK: Early and often, baby.
- 40:09BRIAN DERRICK: Our good vibe goodbye for the week is coming from Wisconsin, where the Wisconsin Supreme Court, which Democrats have poured tons of money into electing a pro-democracy, anti-gerrymandering majority on that court in recent years.
- 40:29BRIAN DERRICK: The court will now be hearing a case on their congressional maps, which we've been pushing for for two years because Wisconsin, which is actually a light blue state, pretty consistently leans Democratic in modern election cycles, but sends 75% Republicans to Congress because their map is gerrymandered.
- 40:54BRIAN DERRICK: Oh.
- 40:54BRIAN DERRICK: We are trying to get a fair map out of Wisconsin, and this is the case that we think could do it.
- 41:02BRIAN DERRICK: So really good vibes for, not for 2026 map, but for 2028.
- 41:06GLENNIS MEAGHER: Great.
- 41:07GLENNIS MEAGHER: We need that.
- 41:08GLENNIS MEAGHER: We'll take the good vibe.
- 41:09BRIAN DERRICK: Halleloo! All right, y'all, have a great week.
- 41:13BRIAN DERRICK: We'll be back here same time, same place, wherever you are listening or watching.
- 41:19BRIAN DERRICK: Hello, YouTube.
- 41:20BRIAN DERRICK: Make sure to come back next week and check the vibes of American politics with us.
- 41:23BRIAN DERRICK: And while you're here, like, comment, subscribe, follow, post, share, twat, whatever it takes.
- 41:33BRIAN DERRICK: Make sure that you share Vibes Only with your friends so that they can get involved before the midterm election cycle.
- 41:39BRIAN DERRICK: And we'll see you next week.
- 41:40BRIAN DERRICK: Thanks for listening.
