- 0:00A major concern for those who are desirous of shifting from
- 0:04the mental to the intuitional consciousness definitely lies in
- 0:08the transition. How that is going to work, what
- 0:12the role of the mind, if any, is in this transition, and how the
- 0:17consciousness will function as it shifts to reliance on the
- 0:21intuitional capacities. There is a definite anxiety
- 0:26about discontinuing reliance on the mental power which is built
- 0:30up and carried the individual through their development.
- 0:34In the beginning, then, it is not uncommon to see something of
- 0:37a hybrid approach, where the intuition begins to flow but
- 0:42gets commandeered, modified by, and adjusted to fit into the
- 0:46forms of mental consciousness and exercise of the mental will.
- 0:52If the seeker is able to move beyond this interim approach and
- 0:57begin to rely more completely on the intuition, he may find, as
- 1:02Sri Orobindo describes, that the intuitional power can actually
- 1:06replicate, but at an advanced and more powerful level, the
- 1:12mental functionality. In fairness, it is a totally
- 1:16different type of activity that the seeker must become
- 1:19accustomed to by quieting the mind, receiving the intuitive
- 1:24understanding and not garbling or watering it down.
- 1:30All this without creating distortions or
- 1:33misinterpretations through the mental translation that can
- 1:37dramatically change what is being received.
- 1:41The intuition itself also, as Sri Aurobindo notes, is capable
- 1:47of this type of discrimination and understanding, so it can be
- 1:51a self correcting mechanism once it becomes operative.
- 1:56Sriorbindo observes quote. Intuition has a fourfold power,
- 2:03A power of revelatory truth seeing, a power of inspiration
- 2:07or truth hearing. A power of truth, touch or
- 2:11immediate seizing of significance which is akin to
- 2:15the ordinary nature of its intervention in our mental
- 2:18intelligence. A power of true and automatic
- 2:22discrimination, of the orderly and exact relation of truth to
- 2:26truth. These are the fourfold potencies
- 2:30of intuition. Intuition can therefore perform
- 2:34all the action of reason, including the function of
- 2:38logical intelligence, which is to work out the right relation
- 2:42of things and the right relation of idea with idea.
- 2:46But by its own superior process and with steps that do not fail
- 2:52or falter, it takes up also and transforms into its own
- 2:56substance not only the mind of thought, but the heart and life
- 3:02and the sense and physical consciousness.
- 3:05Already all these have their own peculiar powers of intuition,
- 3:10derivative from the hidden light.
- 3:12The pure power descending from above can assume them all into
- 3:16itself, and impart to these deeper heart perceptions and
- 3:21life perceptions and the divinations of the body a
- 3:25greater integrality and perfection.
- 3:29It can thus change the whole consciousness into the stuff of
- 3:33intuition, for it brings its own greater radiant movement into
- 3:37the will, into the feelings and emotions, the life impulses, the
- 3:43action of sense and sensation, the very workings of the body
- 3:47consciousness. It recasts them into the light
- 3:51and power of truth and illumines their knowledge and their
- 3:55ignorance. End Quote.
