- 0:00We are all subject to the action of the three gunas or qualities
- 0:04of nature. They are always shifting as they
- 0:08shift. Our outlook, mood, physical
- 0:11responsiveness, vital energy and mental framework all undergo
- 0:16corresponding changes. None of the three gunas remains
- 0:20constantly in the forefront. So there will be times when we
- 0:24are ruled by sattva and other times by rajas or tamas.
- 0:29When Thomas comes to the front, we can experience various forms
- 0:33of dullness, fatigue, tiredness of body, vital force and mind.
- 0:39Naturally, in such a status, it is easy to experience the state
- 0:44of depression. Inner work needs to continue,
- 0:48particularly the aspiration, patience and perseverance that
- 0:54reminds us that there are brighter times ahead once the
- 0:57Thomas lifts. During this time, the Sadhna
- 1:01continues, even though on the surface we are not focused on
- 1:05this or attending to it due to the influence of Thomas.
- 1:10Once the Temasek energy shifts, we can observe the progress that
- 1:14has taken place in the interim. As long as we remain under the
- 1:19control of the Gunas, we remain fixed in the actions of the
- 1:22nature procrity. If we shift to the standpoint of
- 1:27the witness consciousness, we can create a space of separation
- 1:31for ourselves whereby we can observe the play of the gunas
- 1:35and the changing moods and energies that they bring to the
- 1:38nature while remaining free and unaffected in our inner being.
- 1:43The more we identify with this external being, the more we tend
- 1:47to suffer as we undergo these constant changes and their
- 1:51impact, the mother observes. Quote Depression is a sign of
- 1:57weakness of a bad will somewhere, and bad will in the
- 2:01sense of a refusal to receive help and a kind of weakness
- 2:05that's content to be weak. One becomes slack.
- 2:09The bad will is obvious because there's a part of your being
- 2:12which tells you at that moment depression is bad.
- 2:17You know that you shouldn't get depressed.
- 2:19Well, the reply of that part which is depressed is almost
- 2:23shut up. I want my depression.
- 2:26Try, you will see. You can try.
- 2:29It is always like that. And then later one says again
- 2:33afterwards, afterwards. I shall see.
- 2:37For the moment I want it. And besides, I have my reasons.
- 2:41There you are. It is a kind of revolt, a weak
- 2:44revolt, the revolt of something weak in the being when one comes
- 2:49out of the depression in one's bad will.
- 2:52Well, then one realizes that there was an attack and that
- 2:55some progress had to be made, and that in spite of everything,
- 2:59something within has made progress, that one has taken a
- 3:03step forward, usually hardly consciously.
- 3:08It is something which needs to progress but doesn't want to,
- 3:11and so takes this way like a child who sulks, becomes low
- 3:16spirited, sad, unhappy, misunderstood, abandoned,
- 3:21helpless and then refusing to collaborate and as I just said,
- 3:27indulging in his depression to show that he is not happy.
- 3:32It is specially in order to show that one is not satisfied that
- 3:35one becomes depressed. One can show it to nature, one
- 3:40can show it. That depends on the case you
- 3:42see. One can show it to the Divine,
- 3:45one can show it to the people around 1:00, but it is always a
- 3:49kind of way of expressing one's dissatisfaction.
- 3:53I am not happy about what you demand that this means I am not
- 3:58happy, and I shall make you see to it that I am not happy.
- 4:03But when it is over, and when for some reason or other one has
- 4:07made the necessary effort to come out of it and has come out,
- 4:12when usually realized that something in the being has
- 4:15changed. Because in spite of all bedwill,
- 4:20most often the progress was accomplished not very swiftly,
- 4:25not very brilliantly, not for one's greater glory, surely, but
- 4:30still the progress was made. Something has changed.
