Transcript
- 0:00SPEAKER_00: Went back to the beginning right there, according to Aerosmith and Adam's Apple on Mega Rock.
- 0:06SPEAKER_00: Okay, time for a little rock and roll history lesson.
- 0:08SPEAKER_00: I call it Rewind.
- 0:10SPEAKER_00: Let me hit this button here.
- 0:11SPEAKER_00: Rewind and rock.
- 0:14SPEAKER_00: Going back to oh not too far.
- 0:18SPEAKER_00: 1994, April 8th.
- 0:21SPEAKER_00: Boy, those days your CD case weighed more than your backpack.
- 0:25SPEAKER_00: Remember that?
- 0:27SPEAKER_00: One scratch meant emotional damage.
- 0:30SPEAKER_00: Yeah, I know, because my kids, man, they would flip out.
- 0:33SPEAKER_00: On this day, the Offspring dropped the album smash.
- 0:38SPEAKER_00: And um, here's some uh useless but awesome information on the album.
- 0:42SPEAKER_00: It was recorded for about$20,000, which you know, today I don't think that would even cover coffee at a major label meeting.
- 0:52SPEAKER_00: It was released on uh an indie label, Epitaph Records, and it still outsold tons of the big label albums back then.
- 1:01SPEAKER_00: The keep them separated line and come out and play.
- 1:03SPEAKER_00: That's actually spoken by a guy nicknamed Lil Joe.
- 1:07SPEAKER_00: Yeah, accidentally became part of rock and roll history at that point.
- 1:11SPEAKER_00: Lil Joe did.
- 1:13SPEAKER_00: And uh Dexter Holland was literally studying for a PhD in molecular biology while writing songs.
- 1:22SPEAKER_00: You screamed out your car window.
- 1:25SPEAKER_00: So there you go.
- 1:26SPEAKER_00: Um my favorite song was Come Out and Play.
- 1:30SPEAKER_00: That's what I'm gonna play for you.
- 1:31SPEAKER_00: Now, this this makes me think of when you know being a parent, and you know, you get that one kid that shows up at your door, like, hey, can your kids come out and play?
- 1:41SPEAKER_00: And you're thinking, uh, I don't know about this one.
- 1:44SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:45SPEAKER_00: And then it hits you.
- 1:46SPEAKER_00: You were that kid.
- 1:48SPEAKER_00: Mm-hmm.
- 1:50SPEAKER_00: The one other parents were like, yeah, maybe not today.
- 1:53SPEAKER_00: And suddenly you're like, all right, go ahead.
- 1:55SPEAKER_00: Anyway, full full circle.
- 1:57SPEAKER_00: It's the offspring.
- 1:58SPEAKER_00: Yeah.
- 1:59SPEAKER_00: It's uh come out and play.
- 2:01SPEAKER_00: Released on this day, 1994, on the Smash album for Rewind and Rock on Mega Rock.
- 2:10SPEAKER_00: You gotta keep them separated.
