- 0:02Speaker 1: For more now Tennessee Senator Marshall Blackburn, who served with
- 0:06Speaker 1: Senator Graham in the Senate for eight years. They recently
- 0:08Speaker 1: worked together on a bill to combat sanctuary city policies.
- 0:12Speaker 1: Senator welcome, It's good.
- 0:16Speaker 2: To be with you, and we're all saddened by the
- 0:18Speaker 2: loss of Lindsey Graham. He was someone who really believed
- 0:23Speaker 2: in robust, respectful bipartisan debate and in solving problems. And
- 0:29Speaker 2: that is one of the things that we were doing
- 0:32Speaker 2: with the two to eighty seven g Enhncement Act to
- 0:35Speaker 2: encourage states to do the right thing, encourage cities and
- 0:39Speaker 2: counties to partner up with ICE, and to help with
- 0:42Speaker 2: President's goal of deportations for those that are in the
- 0:46Speaker 2: country illegally. And he had partnered up with me on
- 0:50Speaker 2: the Save America Act on a provision that I have
- 0:54Speaker 2: and Mike. This one would have allowed the states to
- 0:59Speaker 2: be in sale devies for using the Save System at DHS,
- 1:03Speaker 2: which is a database that contains the names of those
- 1:07Speaker 2: that are in the country legally or illegally but are
- 1:11Speaker 2: not citizens. And we did these provisions because it would
- 1:16Speaker 2: put it into a budget bill that could go through
- 1:20Speaker 2: the Reconciliation process, and of course we did the big
- 1:24Speaker 2: beautiful bill, We did the Reconciliation two point zero, and
- 1:29Speaker 2: currently we're working on Reconciliation three point zero. But we
- 1:34Speaker 2: are really going to miss Lindsey Graham. He was truly
- 1:38Speaker 2: a fearless patriot.
- 1:40Speaker 1: President Trump today said that his loss was definitely a
- 1:43Speaker 1: blow to the Save America Act. Is that your feeling,
- 1:47Speaker 1: and what if you named it for Senator Graham? Might
- 1:50Speaker 1: that help get some more support.
- 1:54Speaker 2: I would really appreciate the opportunity to have it on
- 1:58Speaker 2: the floor, to pass it in his honor. He truly
- 2:02Speaker 2: believed an election integrity and the fact that people should
- 2:06Speaker 2: be citizens and that they should show an ID when
- 2:09Speaker 2: they go to vote. And that is something Tennesseeans believe.
- 2:14Speaker 2: It's something that eighty five percent of the American public
- 2:19Speaker 2: shares that belief. So putting these on the floor and
- 2:23Speaker 2: passing them in Lindsay's honor, since he was working with
- 2:27Speaker 2: those of us who have co sponsored and sponsored legislation
- 2:32Speaker 2: that makes up these provisions and puts the heft into it. Mike,
- 2:36Speaker 2: that would be so appropriate that we would take our
- 2:39Speaker 2: time and do that.
- 2:41Speaker 1: You are a member of Saint Judiciary. You have a
- 2:43Speaker 1: big hearing starting this week for Todd Glance to be
- 2:47Speaker 1: the next Attorney General. What about the passing of Senator
- 2:50Speaker 1: Graham's impact on this confirmation process for the next Attorney General?
- 2:57Speaker 2: And we began working on this for our July fourth
- 3:03Speaker 2: State work period, and we will go back to that.
- 3:06Speaker 2: That is going to mean that we will have to
- 3:10Speaker 2: push through that hearing. I am sure will end up
- 3:14Speaker 2: having the votes to get him out of committee and
- 3:19Speaker 2: then also to get him through his confirmation vote on
- 3:22Speaker 2: the floor. Todd Blanche has served President Trump well, and
- 3:28Speaker 2: I appreciate the diligence that he has shown as the
- 3:33Speaker 2: acting Attorney General, and I have no doubt that he
- 3:37Speaker 2: is going to honor that continuing work and serve the
- 3:42Speaker 2: American people well in the post as Attorney General.
- 3:47Speaker 1: I'm struck because Senator Graham was a fierce competitor, fought
- 3:50Speaker 1: hard for what he believed in. But a lot of
- 3:52Speaker 1: Democrats are coming out today and remembering a different colleague,
- 3:56Speaker 1: somebody that was also very human in dealing with the
- 4:00Speaker 1: other side. What about that?
- 4:04Speaker 2: And I saw that Senator Graham and I campaigned together
- 4:07Speaker 2: for him in South Carolina and for me in Tennessee
- 4:11Speaker 2: and he and I shared that belief that you build
- 4:15Speaker 2: a campaign from the bottom up, and you build a
- 4:18Speaker 2: big ten and you invite everyone to come and support you.
- 4:23Speaker 2: And on the ground with him in South Carolina, people
- 4:28Speaker 2: referred to him as Lindsay, not as Senator, and they
- 4:32Speaker 2: embraced him. And I could just experience that warmth that
- 4:38Speaker 2: a room would have for him when I was there
- 4:42Speaker 2: in South Carolina and then when he would be here
- 4:44Speaker 2: in Tennessee, the fact that people appreciated how he stood
- 4:49Speaker 2: for law and order, the rule of law, how he
- 4:52Speaker 2: backed our military, how he believed in a border that
- 4:58Speaker 2: was secure. To also his support for the Save Act
- 5:04Speaker 2: and wanting to find a way to get that across
- 5:07Speaker 2: the floor. Like I said, we had those provisions that
- 5:11Speaker 2: could work their way into the budget bill because you
- 5:16Speaker 2: have to tie that to that appropriations and budgeting process,
- 5:21Speaker 2: and incentivizing states to do the right thing was one
- 5:25Speaker 2: of those ways we were trying to thread that needle
- 5:28Speaker 2: and get this passed.
- 5:30Speaker 1: Senator Marshall Blackburn, I'm grateful to have your perspective on
- 5:33Speaker 1: a sad day in American politics. Thank you very much. Indeed,
