- 0:15Speaker 1: Hello, and welcome everybody to Episode one twenty six of
- 0:19Speaker 1: Cards and Categories. I'm my Cool Art, joined as always
- 0:22Speaker 1: by my very good friend Jeremy Brewer, and we are
- 0:26Speaker 1: super jazz tonight because we've got a special edition of
- 0:29Speaker 1: the podcast to discuss the Series one flagship release that
- 0:33Speaker 1: is happening on Wednesday, February eleventh. We're speaking here on
- 0:38Speaker 1: the ninth, so a couple days early, but there are
- 0:40Speaker 1: plenty of cards already hitting eBay and Reddit everywhere. We've
- 0:44Speaker 1: talked about this a few times that, like post Super
- 0:47Speaker 1: Bowl Tops Flagship release, it is baseball time. You feeling it, now,
- 0:53Speaker 1: I'm feeling it.
- 0:53Speaker 2: We're ready. It's probably one of my favorite products of
- 0:57Speaker 2: the year. Maybe it might have been awful.
- 0:59Speaker 3: Little this year.
- 1:00Speaker 2: We'll talk about it, but it's always good to get
- 1:02Speaker 2: Series one. It's always good that it's a price point
- 1:04Speaker 2: that's successible, and it's always got those big rookies and
- 1:07Speaker 2: everybody's chasing. So it's fun, fun, fun to talk top
- 1:10Speaker 2: Series one. It's been a while since we've had a
- 1:12Speaker 2: big flag shop product that we can actually buy to
- 1:15Speaker 2: talk about, so no bowman here, Let's talk about Top
- 1:19Speaker 2: the Top flagship.
- 1:20Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, top set date twenty twenty five feels
- 1:24Speaker 1: like it was forever ago. I guess it wasn't too
- 1:25Speaker 1: terribly long. But we are right into the thick of
- 1:28Speaker 1: twenty twenty six releases now, I mean, I guess we're
- 1:31Speaker 1: also still in the thick of twenty twenty five releases.
- 1:33Speaker 1: We've still got some on the calendar. But if it
- 1:36Speaker 1: is your first time joining us here at Cards and Categories,
- 1:39Speaker 1: first welcome, and then second, please rate and review us
- 1:43Speaker 1: wherever you're listening to us. We appreciate it. On out,
- 1:46Speaker 1: Apple Podcasts, Spotify, wherever you find that. It just helps
- 1:50Speaker 1: us be able to grow our audience. And the other
- 1:53Speaker 1: thing I want to note is everything that we're about
- 1:55Speaker 1: to discuss, you can go into the show notes on
- 1:58Speaker 1: wherever you're listening to this podcast. You will have a
- 2:00Speaker 1: link to both the checklists that we're looking at. But
- 2:04Speaker 1: then the most important thing is you'll have a link
- 2:06Speaker 1: to rasball dot com so that you can look at
- 2:08Speaker 1: the corresponding post for this podcast. It's going to do
- 2:12Speaker 1: a lot more service to you if you can actually
- 2:13Speaker 1: look at the design of some of these twenty twenty
- 2:15Speaker 1: six top Series one cards that we're talking about actually
- 2:21Speaker 1: you know, in picture form. We're going to do our
- 2:22Speaker 1: best to describe it to you with our words. But
- 2:26Speaker 1: if you are a little confused about maybe what we're
- 2:28Speaker 1: talking about and what we're delving into, just go to
- 2:30Speaker 1: that post. I'll have links to all sorts of different
- 2:34Speaker 1: products as well as just pictures of products and examples
- 2:37Speaker 1: of what has come out so far for twenty twenty six,
- 2:39Speaker 1: TOP Series one. With those few caveats set up, let's
- 2:43Speaker 1: just dive right into this checklist here. So if you're
- 2:45Speaker 1: not familiar too much with Tops and what flagship is,
- 2:49Speaker 1: we'll kind of start off there first. Because what Tops
- 2:52Speaker 1: does every year is they will release three main sets,
- 2:55Speaker 1: Series one, which is what we're talking about, Series two,
- 2:58Speaker 1: which will come out about halfway through the year, and
- 3:00Speaker 1: an update which comes out sometime in the fall, like
- 3:03Speaker 1: October November time. And what Series one is really focusing
- 3:07Speaker 1: on is starting that bang off for the year, getting
- 3:10Speaker 1: everybody hype for baseball, so you're gonna have most of
- 3:12Speaker 1: the stars, most of the big rookies in series one.
- 3:15Speaker 1: Series two is probably the least kind of popular, I
- 3:20Speaker 1: would say, of all the three releases in terms of
- 3:22Speaker 1: just what it means in terms of collecting, because you're
- 3:26Speaker 1: starting to pick up the guys who may be signed
- 3:28Speaker 1: for new teams in the offseason, a couple more rookies,
- 3:30Speaker 1: and it's just a little bit more of a muted
- 3:32Speaker 1: release overall, mostly trying to round out that full top
- 3:36Speaker 1: set for the entire year. But I mean, I don't
- 3:39Speaker 1: know about you, Brew, but I've found over the years
- 3:41Speaker 1: that Series two really lags in terms of just value
- 3:44Speaker 1: held compared to Series one. Everyone always loves Series one,
- 3:47Speaker 1: but Series two you can usually always find like sealed
- 3:51Speaker 1: wax of that years later at a very discounted price.
- 3:55Speaker 3: Yeah, you're absolutely right.
- 3:56Speaker 2: Series two has always been kind of the ugly step
- 3:58Speaker 2: child of a flagship. And the big reason is because
- 4:02Speaker 2: of the timing of.
- 4:03Speaker 3: The print runs.
- 4:04Speaker 2: Pretty much the only rookies that you're gonna get in
- 4:06Speaker 2: there that will be worth chasing, or the guys that
- 4:09Speaker 2: made opening day rosters as rookies and what we'll call
- 4:13Speaker 2: up in that first month or so, those are the
- 4:16Speaker 2: guys that have a chance to make it into Series two.
- 4:18Speaker 2: Otherwise they're holding a guy or two over from from
- 4:21Speaker 2: the prior fall. But that's generally why this is the case,
- 4:25Speaker 2: because there's just not as many guys that get their
- 4:28Speaker 2: debut and kind of kind of shoot off at that
- 4:31Speaker 2: point in time because with the service manipulation that we've
- 4:33Speaker 2: had for many, many years, that's kept kept it down.
- 4:36Speaker 2: Now with the more more recent CBA number of years ago,
- 4:40Speaker 2: that's I think changed a little bit. So it's made
- 4:41Speaker 2: Series two a little bit more palatable, but still it's
- 4:45Speaker 2: it's it's definitely held off on its value outside of
- 4:49Speaker 2: maybe like a Kunya when he when he kind of
- 4:51Speaker 2: headlined that a number of years ago.
- 4:53Speaker 1: Yeah, and I think on top of it too. What
- 4:55Speaker 1: also happens in series two is that in series one,
- 4:58Speaker 1: like a bunch of these big rookies we're gonn to
- 5:00Speaker 1: talk about, they have their first patches with rookie logos
- 5:03Speaker 1: on them, but they have their first autos with rookie
- 5:05Speaker 1: logos on them. And if you're not familiar with what
- 5:07Speaker 1: we're talking about, that's the RC stamp with the home
- 5:10Speaker 1: plate behind it. That's the rookie logo that everybody's looking for.
- 5:14Speaker 1: You get that in series one. So there's a little
- 5:16Speaker 1: bit when you get to Series two and you get
- 5:18Speaker 1: to those same autos and checklists and you get some
- 5:21Speaker 1: of those repeats of rookies. People already collected the first
- 5:24Speaker 1: ones that've hit the market, and those ones that come
- 5:27Speaker 1: out in Series two are considered a little secondary. So
- 5:30Speaker 1: if anything that boosts Series won even more that this
- 5:32Speaker 1: is one of the products. I think that like, when
- 5:35Speaker 1: you look at the long term scope of what TOPS
- 5:38Speaker 1: has done over the decades, Flagship Series one always holds
- 5:42Speaker 1: up pretty well because it's really chalked full of all
- 5:45Speaker 1: sorts of stuff. It's also like it's very ubiquitous. You're
- 5:49Speaker 1: gonna find this stuff everywhere. It's gonna be on retail shelves,
- 5:51Speaker 1: it's gonna be at hobby stores, it's going to be
- 5:54Speaker 1: at gas stations, it's going to be a baseball stadiums
- 5:57Speaker 1: all summer long. So Series one it's meant to last
- 6:01Speaker 1: throughout the entire season as opposed to Series two and
- 6:04Speaker 1: update obviously come out and finish the rest of the
- 6:07Speaker 1: setout overall. So with that, let's get into Series one
- 6:10Speaker 1: a little bit, because we're looking at a three hundred
- 6:14Speaker 1: and fifty card set, which is pretty standard. Maybe some
- 6:17Speaker 1: other things that we should set up for twenty twenty six,
- 6:19Speaker 1: it's the seventy fifth anniversary of TOP, so that's going
- 6:22Speaker 1: to be included throughout the product. You've got that in
- 6:24Speaker 1: the tops logo, and it's going to come up in
- 6:26Speaker 1: different spots in terms of parallels and just other things
- 6:29Speaker 1: that they're going to be emphasizing throughout Chase Cards. In
- 6:32Speaker 1: twenty twenty six, here is celebrating that seventy fifth anniversary,
- 6:36Speaker 1: and then you're gonna have many different ways and boxes
- 6:39Speaker 1: to be able to purchase this product. So brew maybe
- 6:43Speaker 1: give people a rundown out there of what sorts of
- 6:47Speaker 1: products you're looking at in terms of types of boxes,
- 6:51Speaker 1: what cards are maybe representing the best bang for your
- 6:54Speaker 1: buck traditionally what you usually buy in terms of like
- 6:58Speaker 1: you know, you see something on the shelf, We've got
- 7:00Speaker 1: lots of different options. Which type of box or pack
- 7:03Speaker 1: are you gonna attack?
- 7:05Speaker 2: Yeah, so generally you have I think's actually generally it's
- 7:09Speaker 2: not like six different versions out here.
- 7:12Speaker 3: You have your hobby in jumbo boxes.
- 7:14Speaker 2: Jumbo boxes running around two hundred bucks in the pre
- 7:16Speaker 2: sales Hobby about one hundred bucks, and those are the
- 7:19Speaker 2: ones that have you know, guaranteed hits. Your Hobby box
- 7:23Speaker 2: guarantees you one autograph or memorabilia card and then one
- 7:26Speaker 2: of those silver packs which said to have the mojo's,
- 7:28Speaker 2: there are sometimes chance on autos. Then the jumbo box,
- 7:31Speaker 2: you're guaranteed one auto, one memorabilia card in one silver pack,
- 7:35Speaker 2: which frankly that's actually down from prior years.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Usually is used to.
- 7:38Speaker 2: Get two silver packs in the jumbo boxes and two
- 7:41Speaker 2: memorabilia cards, so that is down a little bit. You
- 7:43Speaker 2: have megaboxes, which are fifty bucks at this point, and
- 7:48Speaker 2: those do not necessarily guarantee that you're gonna get anything
- 7:52Speaker 2: out there. You're gonna get a few specific parallels, but
- 7:56Speaker 2: not necessarily a guaranteed auto memorabilia. You have hang which
- 8:01Speaker 2: are going to be out there, value blasters. Hangers are
- 8:04Speaker 2: probably gonna be twelve fifty to fifteen bucks, value blasters
- 8:08Speaker 2: about twenty five bucks. You have tens, which are kind
- 8:11Speaker 2: of decorative collectible tens.
- 8:13Speaker 3: They will be out there.
- 8:15Speaker 2: And then also your fat packs, which are generally much
- 8:17Speaker 2: thicker pack which have quite a few cards in it
- 8:21Speaker 2: relative to kind of what you expect from a hobby pack.
- 8:24Speaker 2: So those are your general availabilities. I think the common saying.
- 8:29Speaker 3: In the industry is hangers or bangers.
- 8:31Speaker 2: For whatever reason, it always seeing out the odds odds
- 8:33Speaker 2: are better, or maybe it's just what's posted based on
- 8:38Speaker 2: the nomenclature. I'm not sure which one it is, but
- 8:40Speaker 2: those always seem to be great.
- 8:42Speaker 3: I'd say if you're going for.
- 8:43Speaker 2: A big box, Jumbo tends to be the way to go,
- 8:46Speaker 2: just because of the guaranteed hits. If you do go
- 8:49Speaker 2: with a hobby box, I don't I haven't looked at
- 8:52Speaker 2: the odds, but it feels like it's like a ten
- 8:54Speaker 2: to one that you're going to get a you know,
- 8:56Speaker 2: relic of a no name player relative to an auto
- 8:59Speaker 2: that you actually be after. So you get the guarantee
- 9:03Speaker 2: in the jumpbo box, which generally is gonna make that worthwhile.
- 9:06Speaker 2: So that's for me what I'm going after. I typically
- 9:09Speaker 2: would avoid the tens.
- 9:10Speaker 3: There are actually forty five bucks.
- 9:12Speaker 2: For those tens, and I think you're stouly paying a
- 9:14Speaker 2: lot for the display of those tens versus the actual
- 9:18Speaker 2: cards themselves inside of those, so you're paying up a
- 9:22Speaker 2: little bit.
- 9:22Speaker 3: There. So a lot of different options that are gonna
- 9:25Speaker 3: be out.
- 9:25Speaker 2: There for folks to pick up, and really, at the
- 9:28Speaker 2: end of the day, the nice thing is it hits
- 9:30Speaker 2: all price points from breakers buying tons of jumbos all
- 9:35Speaker 2: the way down to people picking up you know, fat packs,
- 9:37Speaker 2: and that for five six bucks you have accessibilities. That's
- 9:40Speaker 2: one thing that I think is really important with Series
- 9:42Speaker 2: one is you can have the chance to rip. This
- 9:46Speaker 2: is like the old school you just happen to be
- 9:47Speaker 2: in the story, like I'm gonna grab a pack, like
- 9:49Speaker 2: you could do that. You can't do that with some
- 9:51Speaker 2: of the like tops, chrome or anything like that. I'd
- 9:54Speaker 2: just like to pick up a pack to rip. Well,
- 9:56Speaker 2: here's a fifty dollars sixty dollars blaster. It's just not
- 10:00Speaker 2: the same thing.
- 10:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I mean, it is certainly a big downgrade in
- 10:04Speaker 1: those jumbos losing one of the silver packs and losing
- 10:07Speaker 1: one of those hits. So do keep that in mind,
- 10:10Speaker 1: like if you're going back and buying a Jumbo, maybe
- 10:13Speaker 1: because you do as a tradition to get into the season,
- 10:16Speaker 1: especially because the nice thing with a jumbo too is
- 10:19Speaker 1: you should put together entire set. Is assuming that your
- 10:22Speaker 1: collation on the rent run of cards that you got
- 10:26Speaker 1: was solid, you should get a whole set of Series
- 10:29Speaker 1: one base in that too, which is kind of nice
- 10:31Speaker 1: to be able to tuck away for yourself. But yeah,
- 10:34Speaker 1: I mean the prices did not flex there to reflect
- 10:38Speaker 1: the lack of the silver pack and the lack of
- 10:40Speaker 1: the hit, And I mean we've been seeing that more
- 10:43Speaker 1: and more as Tops and Finacs had been bringing out products.
- 10:47Speaker 1: It happened recently to our favorite stadium club from twenty
- 10:50Speaker 1: twenty five where they start peeling out some of those
- 10:52Speaker 1: hits there too. So just kind of keep that in mind,
- 10:55Speaker 1: because I think it's gonna be par for the course
- 10:57Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six as we get deep into the
- 11:00Speaker 1: calendar and deeper into the releases, is that you're gonna see.
- 11:05Speaker 1: I think there's so much consolidation that's happened underneath Fanatics
- 11:09Speaker 1: and Tops into space. They really do run this market,
- 11:12Speaker 1: and sure Panini is around, but you know Tops is
- 11:15Speaker 1: the exclusive holder of that MLB license, and so with that,
- 11:18Speaker 1: you know, it really creates a situation where they are
- 11:22Speaker 1: running the entire market and a lot of it's going
- 11:24Speaker 1: through Breakers nowadays too. So that's something to also consider
- 11:28Speaker 1: that it hasn't necessarily been proven, but breakers out there
- 11:31Speaker 1: certainly do seem to get some pretty loaded boxes compared
- 11:35Speaker 1: to the rest of the public here and there. But
- 11:37Speaker 1: also kind of makes sense when you look at their partnerships.
- 11:40Speaker 1: So it's a little shady in terms of all that,
- 11:42Speaker 1: but I think we still encourage people to rip Flagship
- 11:45Speaker 1: Series one because it is probably one of the best
- 11:48Speaker 1: products for bang for your buck in terms of like
- 11:51Speaker 1: feeling that you're turning around and getting something worth collecting
- 11:55Speaker 1: on top of it too. Like it is the first
- 11:58Speaker 1: week of February, we have not seen baseball for quite
- 12:01Speaker 1: some time, and I'm ready for anything baseball related. So
- 12:04Speaker 1: maybe there's a little degeneracy here built into ripping Flagship
- 12:09Speaker 1: Series one, but I certainly am not going to turn
- 12:12Speaker 1: it down. Then, with the three hundred fifty card set,
- 12:16Speaker 1: we've got all the parallels. I've counted it off, and
- 12:18Speaker 1: actually I think there might have been even one added
- 12:21Speaker 1: since we updated this rundown the other day. I think
- 12:25Speaker 1: they added in a cherry blossom parallel to compared to
- 12:29Speaker 1: when I originally counted it up, and that's only gonna
- 12:32Speaker 1: be in the Japan edition anyway. But what we're looking
- 12:34Speaker 1: at for top Series one fifty three parallels here per
- 12:39Speaker 1: card of the three hundred and fifty cards set, and
- 12:43Speaker 1: brew I'm giving you plenty of time. I saw you
- 12:45Speaker 1: already chugging a little bit of power ready to make
- 12:47Speaker 1: sure that you were hydrated for the running through the
- 12:49Speaker 1: entire parallel set, not only those fifty three parallels, like
- 12:54Speaker 1: all out there. If you want to try to do
- 12:55Speaker 1: a rainbow of being in these cards, you're gonna have
- 12:57Speaker 1: to buy multiple different types of boxes to be able
- 12:59Speaker 1: to it or hope people are ripping it, because some
- 13:01Speaker 1: are Superbox exclusives, some are Fanatics Value Blaster Exclusive, which
- 13:08Speaker 1: if you're going back to that rundown in the different
- 13:10Speaker 1: boxes blasters have a regular retail component that you would
- 13:14Speaker 1: buy at like a Walmart or Target or something or
- 13:17Speaker 1: hobby shops, and then there's one that you order through
- 13:19Speaker 1: fanatics dot com and it comes with different types of
- 13:22Speaker 1: hits within it. You've got the fifty three parallels per card,
- 13:26Speaker 1: but then on top of it, you've also got a
- 13:27Speaker 1: golden mirror short print of every card is back again
- 13:30Speaker 1: this year. You've also got on plenty of cards. It's
- 13:34Speaker 1: not every card is vintage parallels, clear parallels, holiday parallels,
- 13:41Speaker 1: true photo parallels, player number parallels, team color playarallels, and
- 13:46Speaker 1: on rookies you have nineteen fifty two tops variation parallels.
- 13:50Speaker 1: That's an addition seventy or seven there that'll round you
- 13:53Speaker 1: out to sixty total parallels. If you're looking to put
- 13:55Speaker 1: it together for somebody like a Roman Anthony or another
- 13:59Speaker 1: big rookie, that's gonna have all seven of those parallels,
- 14:02Speaker 1: So good luck out there. If you're trying to do
- 14:04Speaker 1: a rainbow, I'd suggest maybe trying to trim it up
- 14:07Speaker 1: to something like a true color parallel of rainbow, because
- 14:11Speaker 1: I don't even know if you can do all of them.
- 14:14Speaker 1: It's been impossible for a couple of years. But brew,
- 14:17Speaker 1: are you ready? You're ready to run through this checklist
- 14:19Speaker 1: of all fifty three parallels?
- 14:21Speaker 2: I think I'm ready. We'll see It's no. I feel
- 14:24Speaker 2: like the pressure's on with this one. It's been a
- 14:26Speaker 2: while since I've had a mess up in these, so
- 14:29Speaker 2: we'll see if we can.
- 14:29Speaker 3: Get through it. But let's let's go.
- 14:32Speaker 2: So first of all, I'm gonna try to avoid hitting
- 14:34Speaker 2: all the ones you hit. But we got the Hangar
- 14:36Speaker 2: Exclusive day of Monte foils. We have the Halo foils
- 14:39Speaker 2: for retail, pink Diamonte foils from Hangars, Rainbow foils, Jumbo
- 14:44Speaker 2: Exclusive sand glitter. None of these remembered by the way,
- 14:48Speaker 2: these are all just pair pair of ols, silver crackle board,
- 14:52Speaker 2: foil board, superbox.
- 14:54Speaker 3: Exclusive and I didn'tven hit those earlier.
- 14:56Speaker 2: Superboxes tend to be at your big box retailers or
- 15:02Speaker 2: Sam's Club or you know, Costco or something like that.
- 15:05Speaker 3: So get your spring training parallels. You have your tops foil.
- 15:09Speaker 2: Pattern, aqua holofoil, aqua rainbowfoil. Then we finally get into
- 15:15Speaker 2: our numbers. Gold out of twenty twenty six, which is
- 15:18Speaker 2: the standard. You have your pink holofoil expected print run
- 15:22Speaker 2: of eight hundred is not actually numbered. Then you have
- 15:24Speaker 2: yellow halofoil, yellow rainbowfoils both out of three ninety nine,
- 15:27Speaker 2: Purple holofoils and purple rainbowfoils out of two fifty. You
- 15:31Speaker 2: have blue holofoils and blue rainbowfoils out of one to fifty.
- 15:34Speaker 2: Then there's a whole entire rainbow at ninety nine of
- 15:36Speaker 2: cherry blossoms, green diamonte foils, green holofoils, green rainbowfoils, and
- 15:40Speaker 2: green spring training. So if you want to just collect
- 15:43Speaker 2: the ninety nine run, you might as well. You have
- 15:46Speaker 2: your Independence Day out of seventy six.
- 15:47Speaker 3: You have your seventy five.
- 15:48Speaker 2: Years of tops out of seventy five, black borders out
- 15:51Speaker 2: of seventy five, a whole slew of gold, gold dimontefoils
- 15:55Speaker 2: out of fifty, gold holofoils, Gold rainbow foils, gold sand glitter,
- 15:58Speaker 2: gold spring Training, and don't worry, we just throw a
- 16:01Speaker 2: canvas and they're out of fifty as well. For fun,
- 16:04Speaker 2: down to the out of twenty fives. We're getting even
- 16:06Speaker 2: more of these Memorial Day camos, which is a very popular. One,
- 16:10Speaker 2: Orange Day Monte foils, orange holofoils, orange rainbowfoils, orange sand glitter,
- 16:14Speaker 2: Orange spring Training, and your wood parallels, So those are pretty
- 16:17Speaker 2: cool if you've ever had one. Then black Diamante, black holofoil,
- 16:22Speaker 2: black rainbowfoil, black sand glitter, all out of ten, Red
- 16:25Speaker 2: Day Monte foils out of five, Red holofoils, red rainbow foils,
- 16:29Speaker 2: sand glitter, and you're red spring Training out of five.
- 16:33Speaker 2: Then all of your out of ones, which ironic that
- 16:35Speaker 2: there's more than one. First card off the line out
- 16:38Speaker 2: of one. You got your oil fractor out of one,
- 16:40Speaker 2: you have your Rose Gold holofoil out of one, your
- 16:43Speaker 2: Rose Gold spring Training out of one, and then your
- 16:46Speaker 2: your printing plates and all the versions of the printing plates.
- 16:48Speaker 2: I'm not going to go through, but that is your
- 16:50Speaker 2: run of all of the parallels.
- 16:53Speaker 1: Bravo, bravo, you made it. You're still alive.
- 16:56Speaker 2: Yeah, I'll take the next ten minutes off. You might
- 16:57Speaker 2: have to go there, go this year yourself.
- 16:59Speaker 1: I have to go on the il for a couple
- 17:01Speaker 1: of weeks. But we'll see that is just is so much.
- 17:05Speaker 1: And if you've been with us listening to when we
- 17:08Speaker 1: run through these parallels every time on these bigger sets,
- 17:11Speaker 1: you'll notice like they added pretty much one of every
- 17:14Speaker 1: color across the board for the most part, especially in
- 17:16Speaker 1: those lower ones. You're getting an extra red, you're getting
- 17:19Speaker 1: extra orange, you get an extra black parallel, extra green parallel.
- 17:24Speaker 1: So yeah, it is a lot of parallels, and it's
- 17:28Speaker 1: really become a little bit over the top because like
- 17:32Speaker 1: not only the big thing that has changed a lot
- 17:37Speaker 1: is that the spring training parallels I don't believe had
- 17:39Speaker 1: color parallels in the past the way this one's done
- 17:43Speaker 1: has done. And once you start adding those on, and
- 17:48Speaker 1: I mean you hit a few holiday ones, there's probably
- 17:52Speaker 1: actually more out there. So like, because there should be
- 17:56Speaker 1: a crossover of holiday parallel that we'll align with Easter
- 18:02Speaker 1: or spring, and so unless they've gotten rid of that,
- 18:05Speaker 1: I'm pretty sure it'll be buried because as we are
- 18:08Speaker 1: speaking a couple of days early, we've got most of
- 18:11Speaker 1: the checklist details from tops, but there will be things
- 18:14Speaker 1: that are surprising and popping up on social medias and
- 18:18Speaker 1: at other places as they really roll this thing out.
- 18:21Speaker 1: Even though we've already seen pictures of this, it's available
- 18:24Speaker 1: on eBay tonight on Monday for some of these cards.
- 18:27Speaker 1: There's been posts on Reddit that these cards have already
- 18:30Speaker 1: been hitting retail spaces, especially like retailers that maybe don't
- 18:34Speaker 1: always dabble in cards and don't know when to put
- 18:36Speaker 1: things out at the right time. So there's lots of
- 18:40Speaker 1: kind of small unknowns. But one unknown or one known.
- 18:45Speaker 3: Is that the.
- 18:46Speaker 1: Parallel checklist is extremely, extremely long. The other thing with
- 18:52Speaker 1: these parallels is I think this is going to dovetail
- 18:55Speaker 1: into maybe one of the bigger discussion points we have
- 18:57Speaker 1: twenty twenty six is we skipped it because I didn't
- 19:01Speaker 1: want to bring us up and really kind of like
- 19:04Speaker 1: taint negative space here with twenty twenty six. But we've
- 19:08Speaker 1: hinted at this a couple times on the POD. I
- 19:10Speaker 1: am not a fan of this design this year. It
- 19:12Speaker 1: is not exactly invoking flagship for me. So if you're
- 19:17Speaker 1: not familiar with the design, what we've got is a
- 19:19Speaker 1: pretty traditional I would say, in the middle portion of
- 19:22Speaker 1: the card that's boxed in from the border, a pretty
- 19:24Speaker 1: traditional flagship looking card, but where it kind of starts
- 19:27Speaker 1: going a rise when you get to the borders on
- 19:30Speaker 1: the left side. And this is consistent. I looked, it's
- 19:33Speaker 1: on both cards that are landscape and portrait. It's always
- 19:38Speaker 1: running down the left is a little bit of like
- 19:41Speaker 1: a jersey stripe, where not only is it like the
- 19:44Speaker 1: jersey stripe that matches with the team colors, which is nice,
- 19:47Speaker 1: but there's texture with it. And then on the left
- 19:50Speaker 1: side of that is all the way to the border
- 19:53Speaker 1: a jersey like a mesh material kind of pattern that
- 19:58Speaker 1: is with the card, and then it fades to the
- 20:01Speaker 1: right of the stripe so that it eventually reaches, you know,
- 20:05Speaker 1: on a base card, a white blank border, which is
- 20:09Speaker 1: you know, traditional for a flagship especially.
- 20:12Speaker 3: I think that and I don't know if.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Border is actually ever going to go away, considering the
- 20:16Speaker 1: way that Tops really loves these parallels now and they've
- 20:18Speaker 1: really been able to play around with those borders the
- 20:22Speaker 1: past couple of years that they've been loving it, but
- 20:25Speaker 1: it the more I thought about it, what really doesn't
- 20:30Speaker 1: do it for me on this is that jersey background
- 20:34Speaker 1: behind the stripe. I can do it the stripe, but
- 20:37Speaker 1: I think it's it's the extra texture that like the
- 20:41Speaker 1: only I was looking through the history of tops like
- 20:43Speaker 1: flagship designs, the only time you usually have gotten like
- 20:47Speaker 1: a real like a picture sort of parallel is nineteen
- 20:53Speaker 1: eighty seven, or like on the border like a wheen
- 20:56Speaker 1: they did the wood. Even like getting into some of
- 20:59Speaker 1: like the twenty tens designs, you never gotten necessarily like
- 21:03Speaker 1: a real pattern. There is like a futuristic or kind
- 21:07Speaker 1: of like some sort of design, and it's that along
- 21:10Speaker 1: with the fade like fades, you gotta be usually pretty
- 21:15Speaker 1: pretty like haphazardly I would say, maybe not halphazardly, but
- 21:20Speaker 1: like limited on the fades on the borders, and it
- 21:23Speaker 1: just pulls in a lot of elements that don't scream
- 21:27Speaker 1: flagship to me. When you combine that with these parallel colors.
- 21:31Speaker 1: There are some rough examples. I will put some on
- 21:33Speaker 1: the the post with the show notes, but there'll be
- 21:37Speaker 1: one that you see this Luis Morales like rookie card
- 21:40Speaker 1: where it goes into the team parallel border. It is
- 21:43Speaker 1: an ugly looking card, I can tell you that. And
- 21:46Speaker 1: then when you do the color parallels, the jersey color
- 21:49Speaker 1: changes and it just it's a mess. What is your
- 21:53Speaker 1: thoughts on the flagship design here?
- 21:58Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean I when it first came out, I
- 22:00Speaker 2: was like, it's not so bad. And even the kind
- 22:03Speaker 2: of fading you talk about the text string wasn't isn't
- 22:05Speaker 2: the worst to me. But it's that stripe. It's that
- 22:07Speaker 2: stripe on the card that on a bass card. It's
- 22:09Speaker 2: not so bad, like it kind of works. It destroys
- 22:12Speaker 2: some of the parallels. I just was looking at the
- 22:13Speaker 2: independence parallels, which is like one of my favorite things
- 22:17Speaker 2: of that they do. It's see out of seventy six
- 22:18Speaker 2: is the only thing that feels like hasn't been tainted
- 22:20Speaker 2: by the serial numbers where we've expanded it. And I'm
- 22:23Speaker 2: just looking at this coal young for the mariners who
- 22:26Speaker 2: minds you their kind of stripe color on there is
- 22:29Speaker 2: seafoam green, and the thing is still seafoam green with
- 22:33Speaker 2: this wonderful red, white and blue attempt around it. And
- 22:36Speaker 2: it just completely, Like I mean, it looks like I
- 22:38Speaker 2: woke up and made a card in the dark type
- 22:41Speaker 2: of thing. Right, it's you know who addressed you this morning?
- 22:44Speaker 2: It's bad, and you're you're taking that across all these
- 22:48Speaker 2: different parallels where there's you know, a good coloring or
- 22:52Speaker 2: something like that, and then you just throw the stripe
- 22:54Speaker 2: in there that just it doesn't match. The color is clashing,
- 22:57Speaker 2: and I think that's just a big miss because it's
- 23:01Speaker 2: just it's it's rough. So I think that's for me.
- 23:05Speaker 2: That's really what's kind of causing a little bit of
- 23:08Speaker 2: the I don't know, downfall of this is that those
- 23:13Speaker 2: cards they don't jump as off the page like they
- 23:18Speaker 2: used to because that that stripe, that color mismatch. You know,
- 23:25Speaker 2: you and I love to talk about color matches. Color
- 23:27Speaker 2: mismatch is out the way to go. I will say,
- 23:29Speaker 2: there are some cards out there that when the stripe
- 23:32Speaker 2: kind of works, it's actually looks fabulous. I'll admit that,
- 23:36Speaker 2: but in general terms, because I'm like I'll call this out,
- 23:39Speaker 2: like a lot of the team color borders, those ones
- 23:43Speaker 2: actually work really well because the stripe is aligned to
- 23:45Speaker 2: the team color and then the logo is in the
- 23:48Speaker 2: team color, and so it's actually it works really really
- 23:50Speaker 2: well looking at a Bryce Matthews for the Astros here
- 23:52Speaker 2: it's got all the oranges and blues, it really just jumps,
- 23:56Speaker 2: and then you just go to the next barrelel over
- 23:59Speaker 2: and you're just like, I got my orange and I
- 24:00Speaker 2: got my green. Like it's just doesn't work. So that's
- 24:04Speaker 2: unfortunate that I don't think they really thought this one
- 24:07Speaker 2: all the way through.
- 24:08Speaker 1: Yeah, and the golds I think are the most disappointing
- 24:10Speaker 1: for me because the left side of the card looks
- 24:13Speaker 1: like a poohstain jersey, Like there's not much way better,
- 24:18Speaker 1: And especially when you start talking about the variation in
- 24:21Speaker 1: the ink that you get sometimes on Flagship, which I
- 24:24Speaker 1: think you'll definitely have on this set because it is
- 24:27Speaker 1: going to be very heavily printed. When the reason that
- 24:30Speaker 1: they're able to fit those sixty parallels in is because
- 24:34Speaker 1: the base printing rate is so high now that like
- 24:38Speaker 1: they've got to be able to spread it across the hits,
- 24:40Speaker 1: across lots of different sets, And so what happens is
- 24:46Speaker 1: uh usually I mean, I guess we won't see fully,
- 24:50Speaker 1: but knowing how Tops has kind of gone underneath the
- 24:53Speaker 1: finat's direction, the QC does not keep up with the
- 24:56Speaker 1: parallels and the print runs expand. So what will happen
- 25:01Speaker 1: is on the gold colored cards and the navy blue
- 25:05Speaker 1: or blue colored cards, which are a little bit more ubiquitous,
- 25:09Speaker 1: the ink will be very different and you're gonna get
- 25:11Speaker 1: some funky looking gold parallels out there. So uh yeah,
- 25:16Speaker 1: it's it is a little bit of a bummer because,
- 25:19Speaker 1: like I said, if they just taken that jersey pattern
- 25:21Speaker 1: off of the stripe, I think it's a perfect card.
- 25:25Speaker 3: Yeah, like you find card.
- 25:27Speaker 2: Yeah, the base design, the kind of like i'll say,
- 25:30Speaker 2: dot I cut esque version of the border, like all
- 25:32Speaker 2: that is really really good. Like they I got the
- 25:35Speaker 2: top seventy five logo on there. I like the way
- 25:38Speaker 2: that they're using the team logos. All those things really
- 25:40Speaker 2: really play well.
- 25:41Speaker 3: It's just that they got too fancy. They got too fancy.
- 25:43Speaker 3: On the outside of it, it feels it does.
- 25:46Speaker 2: It feels more like a Big League product if sorry
- 25:49Speaker 2: for those of you out there, was a Big League
- 25:50Speaker 2: when that was around. It feels like it's the cheap
- 25:53Speaker 2: version or the opening day version of Guys.
- 25:56Speaker 1: It really does, especially on these USA Independence parallels els
- 26:00Speaker 1: like they feel very big league to me. That's why
- 26:02Speaker 1: I was also invoking which well, I mean it kind
- 26:05Speaker 1: of go It's been a I mean, I wasn't a
- 26:07Speaker 1: huge fan of the twenty twenty three design, but like
- 26:10Speaker 1: it was fine at the end of the day.
- 26:13Speaker 3: It's all perspective by buddy.
- 26:14Speaker 1: Yeah, that since we've been doing that, this is probably
- 26:17Speaker 1: the worst that we've seen where it's gonna but.
- 26:20Speaker 3: The first time we've agreed on it too.
- 26:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I don't know it's gonna go down. I think
- 26:24Speaker 1: in terms of like maybe up there for me in
- 26:28Speaker 1: terms of especially how it ages, I just don't see
- 26:31Speaker 1: this aging very well either. And we have to like
- 26:33Speaker 1: regurgitate this design in thirty five years, which brings me.
- 26:37Speaker 1: I don't know if we've ever touched this subject, like
- 26:39Speaker 1: what is your least favorite tops flagship design or designs?
- 26:44Speaker 1: Because I can start as you kind of think it through,
- 26:47Speaker 1: because two really stand out to me, and I'll start
- 26:51Speaker 1: with the one that is, uh, I think my absolute
- 26:55Speaker 1: least favorites twenty fifteen. Twenty fifteen is just brutaled. It's like,
- 27:00Speaker 1: I don't know, it looks like somebody like eate a
- 27:05Speaker 1: bunch of random mechanical components and threw up on the
- 27:10Speaker 1: design and it's like all dark and it's got like
- 27:13Speaker 1: little swirls and it's got little dots and it's just
- 27:17Speaker 1: twenty fifteen's all over the place, and the darkness overall
- 27:21Speaker 1: just does not allow pretty much any of the cards
- 27:25Speaker 1: to pop. It's a really ugly, ugly set.
- 27:28Speaker 3: In my mind.
- 27:28Speaker 1: The other one that six twenty twenty six here kind
- 27:32Speaker 1: of reminds me of is nineteen ninety four. The nineteen
- 27:34Speaker 1: ninety four set is so nineties with all the gradient
- 27:40Speaker 1: borders and stuff where it's just like it went a
- 27:43Speaker 1: little bit too far. Like nineteen ninety four, they were
- 27:46Speaker 1: so close and like it doesn't look bad nowadays and
- 27:50Speaker 1: archives and like other reprints, but it's also like so
- 27:54Speaker 1: ugly when you line up all the other tops designs
- 27:57Speaker 1: through the years that like you just peel an element
- 28:00Speaker 1: or two often in nineteen ninety four design, and I
- 28:03Speaker 1: think it would have been fantastic. I feel that way
- 28:05Speaker 1: of twenty twenty six.
- 28:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean it's a it's a close race. There's
- 28:11Speaker 3: a number of them out there.
- 28:12Speaker 2: I mean two thousand and three was was pretty pretty rough,
- 28:16Speaker 2: like it was that the blue borders for just for
- 28:18Speaker 2: almost like no reason. So I felt like every card
- 28:21Speaker 2: was a parallel if you look at today and then
- 28:25Speaker 2: I think if you go back and you know, pick out.
- 28:29Speaker 2: I hate to say it, but I think twenty one
- 28:33Speaker 2: even to me at this point, it just it. It
- 28:37Speaker 2: just doesn't like it filters the vibe of everything else
- 28:39Speaker 2: that's been clean lines things like that. It's just a
- 28:41Speaker 2: kind of like extra kind of parallel lines that are
- 28:46Speaker 2: jumping out in the card. I just think those ones
- 28:49Speaker 2: didn't play as well or have an age as well
- 28:51Speaker 2: for me. So they've done a good job over the
- 28:54Speaker 2: years changing things up. But I'd have to say the
- 28:57Speaker 2: early two thousands designs, even two thousand itself was actually
- 29:02Speaker 2: pretty rough back in the day.
- 29:05Speaker 3: I had a number of those that.
- 29:09Speaker 1: Was perfect though.
- 29:10Speaker 2: Yeah, two thousand and one was a good was a
- 29:11Speaker 2: good one, but even like ninety eight ninety nine were
- 29:15Speaker 2: almost the same exact design.
- 29:16Speaker 1: Yeah, ninety six is brutal as well, with the like
- 29:21Speaker 1: David Lynch like elongated stretched like picture of the face
- 29:25Speaker 1: like embedded in the front of the cart or whatever.
- 29:28Speaker 1: Ninety six is also a brutal one. But it's like
- 29:30Speaker 1: so hokey in nineties. That it's it charms me a
- 29:34Speaker 1: little bit.
- 29:35Speaker 3: And don't worry.
- 29:35Speaker 2: You can still go back and if you really want
- 29:37Speaker 2: to go further back, nineteen seventy eight might be the
- 29:39Speaker 2: worst quote unquote vintage design. If you look at seventy eight,
- 29:43Speaker 2: it's just just like a pure, just straight border with
- 29:45Speaker 2: a team name on it and like nothing else. And
- 29:48Speaker 2: so that that one was was pretty rough.
- 29:51Speaker 3: Good thing.
- 29:52Speaker 2: You know, we didn't have huge, huge guys in that
- 29:55Speaker 2: in that set. So you go further back, there's amazing
- 29:58Speaker 2: Ventors designs, but they definitely miss the boat seventy eight.
- 30:02Speaker 1: Yeah, I think that's all fair. Okay, well let's get in.
- 30:05Speaker 1: There's actual actually even a couple of other parallels that
- 30:08Speaker 1: we haven't touched on. So I guess some of these
- 30:11Speaker 1: guys will technically end up having nine of those additional
- 30:15Speaker 1: parallels into the fifth to the fifty three, because not
- 30:19Speaker 1: only do we have the Golden Murror short prints which
- 30:21Speaker 1: have become super popular. So if you're not familiar with those,
- 30:24Speaker 1: what it is is each base card has a photo
- 30:28Speaker 1: variation short print card called the Golden Mirror. Pretty easy
- 30:32Speaker 1: to identify nowadays because the back are like golden ish
- 30:35Speaker 1: and it has SSP marked on it or or something
- 30:38Speaker 1: similar to it. And so not only will you have
- 30:41Speaker 1: that base card, but you'll have that parallel for every
- 30:43Speaker 1: card in the set. Again, but they brought back the
- 30:46Speaker 1: Golden Mure legends, which hasn't been in the past couple
- 30:49Speaker 1: of years. This is what the short prints used to
- 30:52Speaker 1: be in lieu of the Golden Mirrors, is that you
- 30:54Speaker 1: would have certain cards, you know, for example, like Aaron Judge,
- 31:00Speaker 1: they would use Babe Ruth as like the short print
- 31:02Speaker 1: and so usually it's like a team crossover or something
- 31:06Speaker 1: similar to that. So those are back, which I think
- 31:08Speaker 1: is a good move. Those have always been pretty popular
- 31:11Speaker 1: over the years, and it brings back especially people who
- 31:14Speaker 1: collected from like Stars of the seventies that reappear and
- 31:18Speaker 1: you know, anytime you can reconfigure your set to get
- 31:22Speaker 1: more Babe Ruth cards in and more pictures of Babe Ruth.
- 31:24Speaker 1: I'm okay with that at the end of the day.
- 31:26Speaker 1: The other parallel that we'll have is just like the
- 31:29Speaker 1: USA Independence cards, which are of seventy six, there's one
- 31:35Speaker 1: of those for every card, we've got a separate parallel.
- 31:40Speaker 1: Now for the Blue Jays, Canadian Independence parallels, which I'm
- 31:43Speaker 1: guessing I haven't seen one yet, but I'm guessing it's
- 31:45Speaker 1: just a Canadian flag instead.
- 31:46Speaker 3: Of a US flag. But I'm found one either, I assume.
- 31:49Speaker 1: So yeah, you have to assume it's the exact same
- 31:51Speaker 1: design with the Canadian flag in the background. But that's
- 31:53Speaker 1: gonna be Blue Jays exclusive for this set. So a
- 31:57Speaker 1: couple more variations there that I think are going to
- 31:59Speaker 1: be big chases, big ones to track down. But let's
- 32:04Speaker 1: get into some of the details of the set, because
- 32:06Speaker 1: not only do we have those parallels in short prints
- 32:09Speaker 1: and everything, we've got a huge rookie class, a really
- 32:13Speaker 1: great rookie class in this series, one which is I
- 32:16Speaker 1: think going to carry this product a little bit in
- 32:18Speaker 1: the market kind of whatever woes we've talked about in
- 32:21Speaker 1: terms of print run and design and everything else kind
- 32:25Speaker 1: of going on with the way that Tops and Fanatics
- 32:28Speaker 1: is running things through breakers, it is a heck of
- 32:31Speaker 1: a rookie class. So here's the ones that I called
- 32:34Speaker 1: out when I was running through the parallel through the checklist,
- 32:37Speaker 1: and then I'm gonna pass it over to you to
- 32:39Speaker 1: see if there's anybody that you're really honed in on.
- 32:41Speaker 1: And trying to collect from this list or maybe one
- 32:44Speaker 1: that I skipped over. So here's the big names of
- 32:47Speaker 1: rookies in series one that I kind of starred or
- 32:52Speaker 1: you know, highlighted, Roman Anthony, Jonahtong, Jacob busny Rowski, Jacob Marcy,
- 32:58Speaker 1: Samuel Bissio, Cam Schlitzler, Jack Kgleone, Christian Moore, Colson Montgomery,
- 33:04Speaker 1: Nolan McLain, Bubba Chandler, Owen Casey, Chase Burns, Dylan Beavers.
- 33:10Speaker 1: So that's already more than I think we've seen in
- 33:14Speaker 1: the past few serieses. Once, you know, it's a pretty
- 33:18Speaker 1: loaded group of rookies. You know, maybe not the highest
- 33:21Speaker 1: of highs compared to what we've seen in the past,
- 33:24Speaker 1: but certainly lots of good young players. It was looking
- 33:28Speaker 1: back on twenty twenty five, lots of great debuts. So
- 33:31Speaker 1: anybody from that list really kind of strikes you as, hey,
- 33:34Speaker 1: this is a guy I really want to tuck away
- 33:36Speaker 1: and invest in from this set or another name.
- 33:39Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean, you can keep going on.
- 33:42Speaker 2: I was just scrolling through the checklist and I saw
- 33:44Speaker 2: like Peyton totally out there. It was another big name picture.
- 33:48Speaker 2: But you know, for this group, really what I'm looking
- 33:52Speaker 2: for are the guys that haven't quite hit it yet,
- 33:54Speaker 2: but I've shown a ton of potential. Because if you're
- 33:57Speaker 2: going after a Ramon Anthony or same as Bessaio or
- 34:01Speaker 2: somebody like that, like they're already kind of at the
- 34:04Speaker 2: top of their market and it's gonna be hard for
- 34:06Speaker 2: that to grow over time. But I think there's a
- 34:08Speaker 2: few guys and Jacob Marcy and Dylan Beaver's that have
- 34:11Speaker 2: a ton of potential and had really shown some good
- 34:16Speaker 2: things while they played, but they both of them were
- 34:19Speaker 2: coming up at the end of the season. Marci came
- 34:21Speaker 2: up and had what roughly two months and Beavers even
- 34:23Speaker 2: less than that.
- 34:25Speaker 3: And so I think those.
- 34:25Speaker 2: Guys are going to have a full run of things
- 34:28Speaker 2: and they you know, their perils, and things will be
- 34:30Speaker 2: relatively cheap because it's just gonna be the teams fans
- 34:33Speaker 2: that are are collecting those ones because they know about them.
- 34:35Speaker 2: And those are the guys that I always like to
- 34:37Speaker 2: target here, maybe even a bubble of Chandler or something
- 34:40Speaker 2: like that, who didn't get a whole lot of run
- 34:42Speaker 2: at the end of the season because the other guys
- 34:44Speaker 2: for the most part, got a good run. Maybe you
- 34:47Speaker 2: can talk about own Casey in a similar similar vein.
- 34:50Speaker 2: I think you and I are both big fans of him,
- 34:52Speaker 2: So I'm looking.
- 34:53Speaker 3: At the hitters.
- 34:53Speaker 2: They only got a slight run at the end of
- 34:55Speaker 2: the season and have a ton of upsides. Are the
- 34:57Speaker 2: guys that I would be targeting. So I think they're
- 34:59Speaker 2: gonna be healthily affordable. You can find them, and they're
- 35:03Speaker 2: not gonna be priced out as the biggest guys, like
- 35:05Speaker 2: the kagli Owans, Anthony's Miserowski kind of guys.
- 35:09Speaker 1: Yeah, yeah, I like it. So, yeah, keep in mind
- 35:12Speaker 1: that when you're looking through this set. I mean the
- 35:15Speaker 1: nice thing is that you know, if you hit parallels
- 35:18Speaker 1: of those cards, those are something to consider in terms of,
- 35:21Speaker 1: you know, playing the game of do you move it
- 35:23Speaker 1: now when the set is hot and right out the gates,
- 35:26Speaker 1: you know, within the first month, or do you try
- 35:28Speaker 1: to tuck some of these away. I can tell you
- 35:30Speaker 1: these flagship cards probably not gonna be worth anything in
- 35:32Speaker 1: the long run compared to what we've seen in previous
- 35:37Speaker 1: print runs. But I think any of the parallels, I
- 35:40Speaker 1: think you're gonna do great out there, especially if you
- 35:42Speaker 1: can get color matches. So let's get into some of
- 35:46Speaker 1: these inserts too, because we've got plenty of standard inserts,
- 35:50Speaker 1: plenty of returners, and some new ones too. So first
- 35:54Speaker 1: let's get into the base kind of set that's gonna
- 35:58Speaker 1: run throughout Flagship throughout the year is the nineteen ninety
- 36:01Speaker 1: one design set where you get those inserts. If you're
- 36:05Speaker 1: not familiar tops, what they do every year is they
- 36:08Speaker 1: run back a thirty fifth anniversary of whatever the design
- 36:11Speaker 1: was thirty five years ago. That puts us as nineteen
- 36:14Speaker 1: ninety one. Yes, I just said that out loud, nineteen
- 36:17Speaker 1: ninety one, which you know you might have just thought
- 36:21Speaker 1: came out you know a few years ago, you know,
- 36:24Speaker 1: a couple decades ago. Even it's thirty five years now.
- 36:27Speaker 1: It is one of the more interesting designs I think,
- 36:32Speaker 1: to pour it across that nineteen ninety We had this
- 36:35Speaker 1: a little bit last year too, where like nineteen ninety
- 36:39Speaker 1: and nineteen ninety one, those cards are so much about
- 36:42Speaker 1: the card stock for me, like when you think about
- 36:45Speaker 1: that set, and they didn't port that over here for
- 36:48Speaker 1: the inserts. So you've got just the design from nineteen
- 36:50Speaker 1: ninety one put onto new cardboard, onto new kind of
- 36:55Speaker 1: slightly glossed cardboard, where if you remember the ninety one cards.
- 37:00Speaker 1: They were barely made out of like paper as opposed
- 37:04Speaker 1: to like cardboard. They were very dull and especially like
- 37:08Speaker 1: I think about like the Desert Storm cards too that
- 37:11Speaker 1: came out with them. But I've always liked the ninety
- 37:15Speaker 1: one design. It's just kind of fascinating to see it
- 37:18Speaker 1: not applied to that kind of easy to beat up
- 37:22Speaker 1: cardboard that I'm used to. So what are you thinking
- 37:25Speaker 1: about these ninety one design cards now that you've kind
- 37:27Speaker 1: of seen them on a few releases on eBay?
- 37:30Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean I like him.
- 37:31Speaker 2: I think I think it was proteabe. You actually had
- 37:33Speaker 2: an insert of them a few years ago as well.
- 37:37Speaker 2: You know, just harkens back to like the big names
- 37:39Speaker 2: in that set was like Chipper Jones rookie cards, and
- 37:42Speaker 2: it's just it's, for whatever reason, it's just such a
- 37:44Speaker 2: simple design that I just felt like it's classic now.
- 37:48Speaker 2: It's not like some of the other ones are, Like
- 37:49Speaker 2: I didn't really love that design back in the day,
- 37:51Speaker 2: but it's like I really like seeing the young rookies
- 37:55Speaker 2: on what I would consider a classic design that I
- 37:59Speaker 2: just remember back in the day because they were just
- 38:01Speaker 2: so readily available, easy to have, so I like it.
- 38:05Speaker 2: I really I'm with you on it, Like put it
- 38:07Speaker 2: in your hand, it doesn't feel right because it looks
- 38:10Speaker 2: like it should be, you know something, put in your
- 38:12Speaker 2: bike spokes and I think this will just slide right
- 38:14Speaker 2: out of your bike spokes. But either way, I really.
- 38:17Speaker 3: Do like the ninety one design.
- 38:18Speaker 2: I think that's going to be kind of a plus
- 38:20Speaker 2: of this of the set, and I think it's gonna
- 38:22Speaker 2: be a fun one to try to collect, maybe the
- 38:23Speaker 2: whole run through of the ninety ninety one designs.
- 38:27Speaker 1: Okay, let's get into some of these other inserts, because
- 38:29Speaker 1: what we've got in terms of returners are all tops Team.
- 38:33Speaker 1: We've got Greatest Hits back, which has been a pretty
- 38:36Speaker 1: standard fare over the past handful of years. We've got
- 38:40Speaker 1: pro files, which is pro Capital f files pro files.
- 38:45Speaker 1: And when I've originally made the Rundown, we didn't actually
- 38:49Speaker 1: know who the profiles person was going to be, because
- 38:52Speaker 1: if you recall this card from the nineties, what it
- 38:55Speaker 1: is is it's a set where one player or person
- 38:59Speaker 1: covers and does blurbs about each of the players featured
- 39:03Speaker 1: in the set. It is King Griffy Jr. So you're
- 39:05Speaker 1: gonna have that kind of fun set where each of
- 39:08Speaker 1: the cards is going to have a picture of a
- 39:11Speaker 1: modern player. For example, I'm looking at one right now
- 39:13Speaker 1: in eBay if Mike Trout, and then on the back
- 39:15Speaker 1: it's got what Ken Graffy Jr. Thinks about Mike Trout.
- 39:20Speaker 1: So that's a cool kind of throwback to the nineties
- 39:23Speaker 1: that is back. We've got First Pitch back, which features
- 39:26Speaker 1: different celebrities throwing out first pitches. We've got Heavy Lumber back,
- 39:31Speaker 1: which is a set that's printed all on wood, so
- 39:35Speaker 1: you don't have to worry about those wood parallels. But
- 39:37Speaker 1: heavy lumbers are short printed their case hits, they're hard
- 39:40Speaker 1: to find. We've got home Field Advantage another case hit
- 39:44Speaker 1: which has become popular and I mean, I don't know
- 39:47Speaker 1: if it's ever going to go away, where these are
- 39:49Speaker 1: based on the Panini design for the downtowns that they
- 39:53Speaker 1: used to put together or still do put together. I
- 39:55Speaker 1: would say, but Tops just blatantly ripped it off called
- 39:58Speaker 1: it home Field Advantage. They're fun because they'll tie in
- 40:02Speaker 1: elements of that local team to the design and then
- 40:05Speaker 1: it's on a nice chrome slash foil finish, which is
- 40:10Speaker 1: always cool to see. We've got all aces and all
- 40:13Speaker 1: Kings back, which those are absolutely tremendously popular. If anything,
- 40:18Speaker 1: they're starting to maybe beat the dead horse a little
- 40:21Speaker 1: bit where it used to be there do either all
- 40:23Speaker 1: Kings or all aces and kind of mix and match
- 40:26Speaker 1: and make it a little bit of a tough set
- 40:28Speaker 1: to put together. But those are back, all Aces, all Kings,
- 40:32Speaker 1: stars of them will be if you've ripped anything over
- 40:35Speaker 1: the past what like six years, you know what I'm
- 40:38Speaker 1: talking about. It's these chinsey little inserts that are in
- 40:41Speaker 1: every pack that actually are completely worthless compared to even
- 40:45Speaker 1: based because there's so many of them out there. Titans
- 40:49Speaker 1: of the game. A two thousand insert, which we haven't
- 40:52Speaker 1: seen for quite a while is back. So of these returners,
- 40:56Speaker 1: which ones you dig in any and there's some good
- 40:58Speaker 1: nostalgia here for you, right like this is right in
- 41:00Speaker 1: our wheelhouse.
- 41:02Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, I'm I'm honestly liking a lot of these,
- 41:06Speaker 2: which is something I haven't said for a while from
- 41:08Speaker 2: a from a set, and so you know, I think
- 41:12Speaker 2: if I had to pick one, I'm really liking the
- 41:15Speaker 2: big ticket players. I don't know what it is about that,
- 41:17Speaker 2: but it goes back to one I haven't gotten there. Yeah, sorry,
- 41:21Speaker 2: I'm jumping jumping for you. But of the returners, sorry,
- 41:25Speaker 2: I'm following the rules of the game here. The the
- 41:28Speaker 2: all all Aces, all Kings are probably my favorite, and
- 41:31Speaker 2: heavy Lumber as well, but I'll never probably get one.
- 41:34Speaker 3: Uh.
- 41:34Speaker 2: Those I think are just absolutely phenomenal. Probably the only
- 41:38Speaker 2: dud in there is Stars of MLB, but that's just
- 41:42Speaker 2: because you need some fillers somewhere in the packs. I
- 41:45Speaker 2: do want to call out the profiles, like you said,
- 41:48Speaker 2: and I just think it is kind of cool because
- 41:50Speaker 2: I just pulled up Pete crow Armstrong's profile here to
- 41:52Speaker 2: read the Griffy quote and it says defense like a
- 41:55Speaker 2: highlight reel.
- 41:56Speaker 3: Reminds me of myself out there. Confidence, smooth and fearless
- 41:59Speaker 3: like that. That's kind of fun. That's that's kind of fun.
- 42:02Speaker 2: So I honestly a lot of the returners, outside of
- 42:05Speaker 2: early Stars of It'll Be, did a great job.
- 42:09Speaker 3: So I'll do that. I bear the lead on the
- 42:11Speaker 3: new ones.
- 42:11Speaker 2: I'll let you talk about the new ones out there,
- 42:14Speaker 2: but I'm I'm already gonna preview it. I love the
- 42:16Speaker 2: big ticket profile, the big ticket players. I think it's
- 42:19Speaker 2: a good one.
- 42:19Speaker 1: Yeah, and so that is one of the new ones.
- 42:21Speaker 1: It is actually it's really similar to Panini Contenders, Is
- 42:25Speaker 1: that what it is?
- 42:26Speaker 3: I believe.
- 42:26Speaker 1: I know Panini has like a ticket.
- 42:28Speaker 3: So it's very similar to the Contenders, yes, which.
- 42:31Speaker 1: They've used previously, but I think in a new kind
- 42:35Speaker 1: of different take on it, where you know, the card
- 42:39Speaker 1: looks like it's a ticket and it goes from there.
- 42:42Speaker 1: Then we've also got the cover Athletes, which I was looking.
- 42:47Speaker 1: I can't find one right now, but maybe it's just
- 42:49Speaker 1: not coming up. Great, Oh there's one, because it is
- 42:53Speaker 1: a pretty decent hint. It's a little bit more rare
- 42:57Speaker 1: than some of the other inserts, but what it is,
- 42:59Speaker 1: it's just, honestly, it's a little bit boring. It kind
- 43:01Speaker 1: of looks like a magazine cover with the player on it,
- 43:05Speaker 1: and then it features when they were featured on a
- 43:08Speaker 1: TOPS box previously. We've also got some redemptions built in,
- 43:11Speaker 1: which I just mostly wanted to highlight because it is
- 43:15Speaker 1: this is where you're getting a lot of the seventy
- 43:16Speaker 1: five years of TOPS built in, where they'll give away
- 43:19Speaker 1: tickets to TOPS events, to World Series games, all sorts
- 43:23Speaker 1: of other things. We've also got finas authentics back which
- 43:28Speaker 1: you are mostly found. I believe in the value boxes
- 43:30Speaker 1: that you get the blasters through for anacs dot com,
- 43:33Speaker 1: but that could be a redemption for a signed piece
- 43:36Speaker 1: of memorabilia that you would send into TOPS fanatics. So
- 43:40Speaker 1: those are some of the news and new ones and
- 43:43Speaker 1: redemptions you hit it on the big ticket players that
- 43:47Speaker 1: I think those are pretty slick. And you know what,
- 43:49Speaker 1: I'm coming a little bit around to the cover athletes too.
- 43:52Speaker 1: Now they see a few of them just because it
- 43:54Speaker 1: does look it's it's like when you used to actually
- 43:57Speaker 1: get Beckett in your in your hands and buy it
- 44:00Speaker 1: at the hobby shots back in the day. Okay, well
- 44:05Speaker 1: let's get into a few of the relics then too,
- 44:07Speaker 1: because we've got standard fair here, major league material, the
- 44:11Speaker 1: relics of the nineteen ninety one inserts, City Connects, Watch,
- 44:15Speaker 1: those are all standards in flagship nowadays. Real one relics
- 44:20Speaker 1: are new. So if you remember from our coverage of
- 44:25Speaker 1: twenty twenty five TOPS update, they started rolling out real
- 44:28Speaker 1: one autos. Now they're going to have real one relics
- 44:31Speaker 1: where it's the actual kind of base design of the
- 44:34Speaker 1: card that has a relic included into it the way. Honestly,
- 44:37Speaker 1: it's just like the nineteen ninety one insert relics, where
- 44:41Speaker 1: you know, you've got the ninety one design of the
- 44:44Speaker 1: card and they put one of those patches or napkins
- 44:47Speaker 1: into the card. Is the relic. Now we've got it
- 44:50Speaker 1: in a real one flagship design. So it's been a
- 44:56Speaker 1: little while since we've seen something like this, but I've
- 44:58Speaker 1: been digging it.
- 44:59Speaker 3: What about you? Yeah, I actually I think it's probably
- 45:01Speaker 3: my favorite relic.
- 45:02Speaker 2: I mean, there's others, like some of the high end
- 45:05Speaker 2: the ones that are with the autos, but just looking
- 45:09Speaker 2: at your base relics, like, yeah, I really do like
- 45:12Speaker 2: the fact that they're using the actual flagship design and
- 45:14Speaker 2: just throwing the relics straight into that. It looks fantastic
- 45:17Speaker 2: and it feels like it belongs, and I think that's
- 45:19Speaker 2: a really thing. So I think those are gonna be
- 45:21Speaker 2: pretty pretty much arned popular with folks. Relatives some of
- 45:24Speaker 2: these other ones that you have out there, Major Material
- 45:25Speaker 2: and things like that, which have been around for a while.
- 45:27Speaker 3: I really the real ones is a good, good spin
- 45:31Speaker 3: on it. You know what it is?
- 45:32Speaker 1: It's because of that grody jersey design works when you
- 45:36Speaker 1: put a relic in it.
- 45:39Speaker 3: That's very true. It's very that's very true.
- 45:42Speaker 1: I almost maybe that would have been the suggestion, like
- 45:45Speaker 1: to go back as like, hey, use the the weird
- 45:48Speaker 1: jersey background when you're doing the real one relics. But
- 45:50Speaker 1: otherwise cut it because I'm looking at an Otani one
- 45:53Speaker 1: right now, and it looks cool when you've got like
- 45:56Speaker 1: the jersey with the relic. They're kind of like screams,
- 46:00Speaker 1: this is.
- 46:01Speaker 3: A relic and I like it.
- 46:02Speaker 2: So yeah, well just wait till they like get the
- 46:05Speaker 2: colors all off and then somebody's got like the Purple
- 46:08Speaker 2: City Connected jersey that they actually put in that real
- 46:10Speaker 2: one relic.
- 46:11Speaker 1: But yeah, or yeah, some sort of weird patcher or something,
- 46:15Speaker 1: it just does not fit whatsoever. Yeah, we'll look for
- 46:19Speaker 1: some of those, because I bet you could find one
- 46:21Speaker 1: that has like the most absurd color combos if you
- 46:25Speaker 1: get you know, like some team in a green or
- 46:29Speaker 1: a blue that doesn't match and it's got like a
- 46:31Speaker 1: like you said, a city connector some other seatures in it.
- 46:35Speaker 1: So that's something to keep an eye out for. But
- 46:37Speaker 1: maybe so ugly it's cool yep.
- 46:40Speaker 3: By work, But that's literally the same as you.
- 46:42Speaker 2: I can only find the one out here so far,
- 46:44Speaker 2: which is that Otani and so not surprisingly that's going
- 46:47Speaker 2: to be a pretty expensive card, but for at least
- 46:49Speaker 2: for that one, it definitely definitely works.
- 46:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and they are going to be rarer than those
- 46:54Speaker 1: Major League materials and other relics that we've gone through,
- 46:57Speaker 1: just because it seems like it's a little bit more
- 46:59Speaker 1: significant hit, mostly because I think it's new. Then we've
- 47:03Speaker 1: also got the in the name relics, which if you
- 47:07Speaker 1: have been familiar with those through the years, they're the
- 47:09Speaker 1: same where they get, you know, a jersey player plate
- 47:15Speaker 1: with their name on it that cut it all up
- 47:17Speaker 1: so that they've got the individual letters in each one
- 47:20Speaker 1: of one card. Great for putting together a rainbow of
- 47:24Speaker 1: that or you know, it wouldn't technically be a rainbow,
- 47:26Speaker 1: would be the full name. But then also cool to
- 47:28Speaker 1: collect these for especially on Reddit, people love taking the
- 47:33Speaker 1: different ones that they have and just spelling out whatever
- 47:35Speaker 1: you want to So great for writing ransom letters and
- 47:38Speaker 1: baseball cards if you want as well. So always going
- 47:42Speaker 1: to be a big hit in those in the names.
- 47:44Speaker 1: That leaves us with the autos, because honestly, this is
- 47:47Speaker 1: a fun checklist in terms of autos. It's going to
- 47:49Speaker 1: be hard to hit the really rare ones and the
- 47:52Speaker 1: things that people are really chasing, but at least it's there.
- 47:55Speaker 1: So we've got plenty of great autos to chase. We've
- 47:58Speaker 1: got real one autos back again too, just like update.
- 48:02Speaker 1: I think they're here to stay as well going forward,
- 48:04Speaker 1: don't you.
- 48:05Speaker 3: Yeah, I think so.
- 48:06Speaker 2: It seems like it's it's a it's a really good,
- 48:10Speaker 2: really good card and it goes a long way and
- 48:13Speaker 2: makes it easier to such a print one.
- 48:15Speaker 1: Yeah, exactly. And so you're going to get that real
- 48:18Speaker 1: one auto with just the flagship design with an autograph
- 48:21Speaker 1: straight on there. It's I think it's always going to
- 48:23Speaker 1: be an on card, just the way that they do
- 48:25Speaker 1: the real ones, and given the popularity that they've had
- 48:28Speaker 1: in heritage and now, I mean, especially if you can
- 48:32Speaker 1: start getting like Roman Anthony real one Auto rookie card, like,
- 48:36Speaker 1: I think that's going to be a huge, huge chase
- 48:39Speaker 1: in the future. So something to keep in mind if
- 48:41Speaker 1: you hit one of those, you're also just gonna have
- 48:44Speaker 1: the standard nineteen ninety one autos as well. That will
- 48:49Speaker 1: a lot of those will be stickers too, so you'll
- 48:51Speaker 1: probably get a little bit of a mix across the
- 48:53Speaker 1: board stickers, especially on the chrome side is usually where
- 48:56Speaker 1: you see those most often. But then some of the
- 48:58Speaker 1: big ones that we've got men are n or the
- 49:01Speaker 1: seventy five years of tops die cuts, which it is
- 49:05Speaker 1: a that's a star Stata checklist, and given especially the
- 49:08Speaker 1: seventy five year anniversary, I imagine lots of people are
- 49:12Speaker 1: going to be chasing that entire checklist and it's just
- 49:16Speaker 1: base auto set list. What do you think that that
- 49:20Speaker 1: seems that screams to me a Chase checklist.
- 49:23Speaker 3: Yeah, it definitely does.
- 49:25Speaker 2: And I mean it's been a while since we've had
- 49:26Speaker 2: a really good die cut auto for Chase, and so
- 49:30Speaker 2: I think you're you're right there. I think it's going
- 49:33Speaker 2: to be good, and I actually want to go back
- 49:35Speaker 2: and I don't say correction something, but it's very shocking here.
- 49:37Speaker 2: The nineteen ninety one is almost all on card Oh
- 49:41Speaker 2: really Okay? Yeah, as I'm looking through, it seems to be.
- 49:44Speaker 2: And so I'm looking at a Joorne Pisada which is
- 49:46Speaker 2: on card auto from nineteenninety one design. So I think
- 49:49Speaker 2: you might be surprised the number of them that are
- 49:51Speaker 2: actually on card outside mean, don't get me wrong, they
- 49:55Speaker 2: got the stickers and all the like MLB Stars versions
- 49:58Speaker 2: the Baseball Stars, so don't they didn't go too far,
- 50:00Speaker 2: But there's a lot more on card autos, and then
- 50:03Speaker 2: I would expect it unless you get to some of
- 50:06Speaker 2: the Mojo packs or even some of the Major League
- 50:08Speaker 2: material ones. Those appear to be mostly sticker, so it's
- 50:11Speaker 2: gonna be hit or miss. Don't guarantee that they're all
- 50:13Speaker 2: that way, but it definitely looks like they went on
- 50:17Speaker 2: card auto with nineteen ninety one.
- 50:19Speaker 1: Okay, well, that's cool to see, and hopefully they keep
- 50:22Speaker 1: that up it Usually it feels like it fades more
- 50:24Speaker 1: into the series two and updating. Yeah, we'll see where
- 50:28Speaker 1: that kind of pulls through. Then we've also got some
- 50:32Speaker 1: of the other autos that I think will be big chases.
- 50:34Speaker 1: You always have this kind of crossover with a music
- 50:37Speaker 1: star and a baseball player. I don't know if I've
- 50:39Speaker 1: seen one as strange as this. We've got Bryce Harper
- 50:42Speaker 1: and Moby which I was trying to find the connection.
- 50:46Speaker 3: I'm not sure you're gonna say, please enlighten me. It
- 50:52Speaker 3: was because I didn't know the connection.
- 50:55Speaker 1: I'm not totally sure because Mobi is like a very
- 50:59Speaker 1: famously like from New York person and obviously Harper plays
- 51:04Speaker 1: for the Phillies, and so I don't know what the
- 51:06Speaker 1: connection is there, but that will be cool is that
- 51:09Speaker 1: you can have a card autographed by Bryce Harper and
- 51:13Speaker 1: Moby and so that will be available for you.
- 51:16Speaker 2: The other thing that just found it found it, Moby
- 51:20Speaker 2: has his maybe Moboby has his walk up song. He
- 51:23Speaker 2: uses his MOBI walk walk Up song flower since twenty twelve.
- 51:27Speaker 3: Well there we go.
- 51:28Speaker 1: I didn't know that Bryce Harper was such a MOBI
- 51:31Speaker 1: head into that trip hop electronica, so now we know. Uh.
- 51:35Speaker 1: And then the other big one that actually just dropped
- 51:38Speaker 1: this afternoon on the socials for Tops, which shows you know,
- 51:43Speaker 1: there's probably gonna be a few other things that come
- 51:45Speaker 1: up and come out are there's Jerry Seinfeld autographs in
- 51:50Speaker 1: this product too, so a lah Larry David being included
- 51:54Speaker 1: in twenty twenty five. It looks like Jerry Seinfeld is
- 51:56Speaker 1: hien here in twenty twenty six with a New York
- 52:00Speaker 1: Hats New York Mets hat on and and you know
- 52:04Speaker 1: that's gonna be a huge piece for any Mets slash
- 52:07Speaker 1: Seinfeld fans out there you've also got. I was trying
- 52:11Speaker 1: to have you found anything on this flagship auto patches.
- 52:14Speaker 1: I have a feeling they're going to be really rare,
- 52:17Speaker 1: but I'm they might just be like really nice patches.
- 52:21Speaker 1: It was kind of in the checklist. I will keep
- 52:23Speaker 1: my eyes peeled for it, but given the rarity of them,
- 52:26Speaker 1: I'm not sure how many we're going to be finding
- 52:28Speaker 1: two days before we release date in here, and I
- 52:33Speaker 1: know you're the I have not.
- 52:39Speaker 2: Yeah, I've been looking, but I'm not I'm finding a
- 52:41Speaker 2: lot of the like said, the kind of Bass ninety
- 52:45Speaker 2: ones or the Major League Materials autos, but I have
- 52:48Speaker 2: not found anything on the flagship auto patches. It kind
- 52:51Speaker 2: of feels like a Reverence type version or something like that.
- 52:54Speaker 2: But no, nothing here yet. And we're still two days
- 52:56Speaker 2: ahead of release days. So if we're finding those maybe
- 52:59Speaker 2: bigger issues.
- 53:01Speaker 1: Yeah exactly. And then you're also going to have most
- 53:06Speaker 1: of those inserts that we ran through, they're gonna have
- 53:08Speaker 1: auto versions as well. And so I think the big
- 53:11Speaker 1: one to call out from there is actually the cover athletes.
- 53:15Speaker 1: This is where it's gonna shine because the cover athletes
- 53:19Speaker 1: that have been on the Flagship tops over the years
- 53:22Speaker 1: have been very good, So like you're gonna have lots
- 53:27Speaker 1: of great players within that checklist between you know, your
- 53:30Speaker 1: Mike Troutz, your Aaron Judges, Albert Poohol, Shoho Tani. So
- 53:34Speaker 1: that's going to be where I think, especially the cover
- 53:38Speaker 1: athlete stuff comes through. The other big chase card I
- 53:41Speaker 1: think in this set is first pitch. Those celebrity first
- 53:45Speaker 1: pitch inserts that I was talking about, they'll have autograph parallels.
- 53:49Speaker 1: I think the big one in the checklist this year
- 53:51Speaker 1: is going to be Tony Hawk, So that might end
- 53:54Speaker 1: up being like one of the main chase cards I
- 53:56Speaker 1: think from this set overall is that you get a
- 53:59Speaker 1: Tony Hawk first pitch padres auto. That's that's gonna be
- 54:04Speaker 1: a huge hit because I you know, just the crossover
- 54:07Speaker 1: of everybody, especially with all the nineties kind of throwbacks
- 54:11Speaker 1: they have in this It's gonna hit all of the
- 54:14Speaker 1: millennials and kind of all sorts of people right in
- 54:18Speaker 1: the heart kind of going out there and collecting that
- 54:21Speaker 1: Tony Hawk auto. So I kind of glossed over some
- 54:25Speaker 1: of those insert autos, But anything else from that auto
- 54:27Speaker 1: checklist or anything else from these chases where you're like man,
- 54:31Speaker 1: this is really cool and this is really standing out
- 54:33Speaker 1: for twenty twenty six flagship.
- 54:35Speaker 2: Yeah, I think the one I do want to call
- 54:37Speaker 2: out is just the Major League Materials autos. I don't
- 54:41Speaker 2: know that in the past that they've done a good job,
- 54:43Speaker 2: but it's actually really really clean this year. I know
- 54:46Speaker 2: it's a sticker auto, but it does a really good
- 54:48Speaker 2: job of bringing in you know, different colors, a lot
- 54:51Speaker 2: of clean lines, and a really nice patch with the auto.
- 54:55Speaker 3: It's just it's it stands out.
- 54:57Speaker 1: It.
- 54:58Speaker 2: I referenced Reverence earlier, which is historically been a flagship
- 55:03Speaker 2: kind of stable, like an out of ten type of auto.
- 55:05Speaker 2: These feel like Reverence patches, and they're like, you know,
- 55:09Speaker 2: there's plentiful within the set, and so it feels like
- 55:12Speaker 2: they stepped it up degree with the Major League materials
- 55:15Speaker 2: this year than they have in the past. So maybe
- 55:17Speaker 2: it's just me, but I'm actually like you major League
- 55:19Speaker 2: material autos for once.
- 55:21Speaker 1: Yeah, I do think that the design is much better
- 55:25Speaker 1: than it has been the past few years, where like
- 55:27Speaker 1: it just felt a little cheap in the past few years.
- 55:30Speaker 1: That it's the design. I mean, the card's gonna still
- 55:33Speaker 1: be relatively thin, but it's starting to like border around
- 55:36Speaker 1: like a Tier one or something in terms of that
- 55:40Speaker 1: sort of design where it feels pretty nice. So I
- 55:43Speaker 1: do agree they do look much better.
- 55:44Speaker 2: And I'll throw out also, I'm seeing a lot more
- 55:47Speaker 2: it's not across the board, but a lot more game
- 55:49Speaker 2: used patches this time around rather.
- 55:53Speaker 3: Than player war.
- 55:54Speaker 2: And don't get me wrong, there's plenty of both, but
- 55:56Speaker 2: it feels like for a few years we were really
- 55:59Speaker 2: getting away from game use patches. And there's quite quite
- 56:02Speaker 2: a few as I've gone through and looked at, that
- 56:04Speaker 2: was released early across the board with these patches, so
- 56:08Speaker 2: especially the City connector I mean, which is probably not
- 56:10Speaker 2: a surprise, the City Connection. It seems to be almost
- 56:12Speaker 2: all game used patches.
- 56:14Speaker 1: That is good to see. And I mean the other
- 56:16Speaker 1: thing is there isn't those like manufactured relics that they've
- 56:21Speaker 1: really phased those out. I think because the feedback was
- 56:25Speaker 1: so poor.
- 56:25Speaker 3: Those were so bad.
- 56:27Speaker 1: Yeah, and especially if you're hitting those in hobby products.
- 56:31Speaker 1: I didn't mind hitting them in a blaster, Like you know,
- 56:35Speaker 1: I'm buying a blaster, I'm not expecting the highest end stuff,
- 56:38Speaker 1: and it's fun in that situation.
- 56:40Speaker 3: But when you were getting.
- 56:41Speaker 1: Those in your jumbo boxes and your hobby boxes on
- 56:45Speaker 1: occasion that is that was the ultimate kick in the nuts,
- 56:48Speaker 1: like you pulling that when you're expecting a real hit.
- 56:52Speaker 1: And so I'm glad to see those that phased out.
- 56:54Speaker 1: So a couple of wins there. So there are ups
- 56:57Speaker 1: and downs, but I think plenty of things that we
- 57:00Speaker 1: still love because at the end of the day, it's flagship,
- 57:03Speaker 1: it's Top Series one, it's baseball Baby, it's back.
- 57:07Speaker 3: It's back, We're here, let's get riven.
- 57:10Speaker 1: Well, I mean, I think that wraps up everything that
- 57:13Speaker 1: I wanted to talk about on Series one. Like I said,
- 57:16Speaker 1: we are recording two days early from actual release date,
- 57:20Speaker 1: so we'll be recording again on Wednesday on the release date.
