- 0:03Speaker 1: Well, we finally have an answer as to whether Trevor
- 0:05Speaker 1: Lawrence is going to be participating in that Netflix series Quarterback.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Which player on this team do you think needs.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Their own reality show?
- 0:12Speaker 3: You?
- 0:13Speaker 4: I think you need your own reality show?
- 0:15Speaker 5: Do it?
- 0:35Speaker 2: Welcome into jags Am.
- 0:36Speaker 1: It is August seventh and training camps getting ready to
- 0:40Speaker 1: get started. I don't even know what day we're on anymore,
- 0:42Speaker 1: so I apologize dye eleven. All right, Cool, we're definitely
- 0:45Speaker 1: in our second week, that's for sure, because I've lost
- 0:47Speaker 1: count of the days.
- 0:48Speaker 6: We welcome you, and I'm.
- 0:48Speaker 1: Kay Nannie, Stevens, John and Brian.
- 0:51Speaker 2: Are with me.
- 0:52Speaker 4: You just realize you're actually in your own reality show.
- 0:55Speaker 1: I mean this feels like one every single morning. It
- 0:57Speaker 1: does feel that way to me.
- 0:59Speaker 6: I think since the questions a layup.
- 1:01Speaker 7: I think Cisco's watch the Dewey reality show twenty four
- 1:05Speaker 7: to seven that skip work.
- 1:07Speaker 6: I would be homeless. I think it's the same episode
- 1:10Speaker 6: day after would you not watch? Would you not watch?
- 1:12Speaker 2: Cisco?
- 1:13Speaker 1: Though he does stand up comedy in his free time,
- 1:15Speaker 1: he's taking a pickle ball for some reason.
- 1:17Speaker 4: I no, No, he's He's definitely an interesting guy.
- 1:19Speaker 6: I like there's the same position, so do he would
- 1:21Speaker 6: probably have him on.
- 1:22Speaker 1: As a guest a lot, so we could do the
- 1:25Speaker 1: whole like that's chunk of the defense.
- 1:27Speaker 4: You know what, I would the safety reality show give
- 1:29Speaker 4: me Cooper Hodges, the rookie from Baker County. I hear
- 1:33Speaker 4: he lives just like you go out his back door
- 1:35Speaker 4: and you walk across the back space there because I
- 1:39Speaker 4: don't think it's a lawn and into Georgia. And he's
- 1:43Speaker 4: a fantastic interview and a great kid. And I hear
- 1:46Speaker 4: he's got to rock his fun family, So I think
- 1:49Speaker 4: he would. He would do good with one.
- 1:51Speaker 1: We have to get we have to get him involved somehow.
- 1:53Speaker 2: I love him. Tug Boat. I'm just a huge fan.
- 1:55Speaker 2: Obviously that's his nickname.
- 1:57Speaker 6: What tug boats? Hug Boats.
- 1:59Speaker 2: I mean, that's not great.
- 2:00Speaker 4: I love it.
- 2:00Speaker 1: All right, let's quickly get into our big things for today.
- 2:03Speaker 1: So our first big thing one I mentioned a little bit,
- 2:06Speaker 1: no thanks. Trevor came out and answered the questions people
- 2:09Speaker 1: were speculating whether he was going to be involved in
- 2:11Speaker 1: the second season of the Netflix show. Quarterback Patrick Mahomes
- 2:14Speaker 1: was on it last season with Kirk Cousins and Marcus Mariota,
- 2:18Speaker 1: and this is what Trevor had to say when asked yesterday.
- 2:21Speaker 3: Yeah, I was I was approached. You know, I didn't
- 2:23Speaker 3: decided to not do it this year, but you know,
- 2:26Speaker 3: that was just something where I feel like, just not
- 2:28Speaker 3: the right time for me. Who knows, maybe in the future,
- 2:31Speaker 3: but you know, I think it's a really I watched
- 2:33Speaker 3: the show though the show was great. I think they
- 2:34Speaker 3: did a great job. So but yeah, that's pretty much it.
- 2:37Speaker 1: There very polite way of answering that question from Trevor saying,
- 2:42Speaker 1: you know, maybe some point, but not right now. And
- 2:46Speaker 1: I think a lot of it is him wanting to
- 2:48Speaker 1: focus on the season, which is commendable. You want to
- 2:50Speaker 1: hear that from your quarterback.
- 2:52Speaker 4: I think part of it is why would you do it?
- 2:54Speaker 4: I mean people do those crazy big brother you know,
- 2:56Speaker 4: survivor things for money. Well, he's got the money and
- 2:59Speaker 4: he's going to get money, so why do you need
- 3:01Speaker 4: to let the cameras in when you've already got the money.
- 3:03Speaker 7: Well, I think too, it sounded to me like he
- 3:06Speaker 7: thinks it could be something that would be interesting to
- 3:09Speaker 7: do down the road. And I know Mahomes did it,
- 3:12Speaker 7: but Mahomes has been in the same system and living
- 3:16Speaker 7: his same life, so to speak, since twenty eighteen, so
- 3:20Speaker 7: he's got five years where he doesn't worry about the routine.
- 3:23Speaker 7: They're still getting sort of everything down here. I could
- 3:27Speaker 7: see him thinking it would be fun to do in
- 3:31Speaker 7: a year or two, once he knows exactly what his
- 3:33Speaker 7: routine is every year.
- 3:34Speaker 1: And obviously, Patrick Mahomes already won a Super Bowl. There's
- 3:36Speaker 1: a little less pressure if you want to follow him around.
- 3:39Speaker 1: I would imagine so obviously, and I think a little bit.
- 3:41Speaker 1: I don't know if you guys have watched the series.
- 3:43Speaker 1: Marcus Mariota didn't come off great after it, so yes,
- 3:47Speaker 1: Kirk Cousins and Pat Mahomes look great, but you could
- 3:50Speaker 1: get the other end of the spectrum too, And there's
- 3:52Speaker 1: always that risk when you're kind of behind the scenes
- 3:54Speaker 1: e with it a little bit.
- 3:56Speaker 2: No, I just you want to go.
- 3:57Speaker 4: For it, Well, no, I give me the money, right,
- 3:59Speaker 4: I've already got the money, so I don't need to
- 4:01Speaker 4: let you in to pay me more. I would rather
- 4:03Speaker 4: have my privacy and my money than live my life
- 4:06Speaker 4: on a I mean, let's be honest. Every single person
- 4:09Speaker 4: who's watching this right now has something they don't need
- 4:11Speaker 4: people to see.
- 4:12Speaker 2: Yep, that's true. Keep your private life private.
- 4:15Speaker 1: That's what he's gonna do for now, so he won't
- 4:16Speaker 1: be on the second season. We now know that our
- 4:18Speaker 1: second big thing today is playing it safe. I'm going
- 4:21Speaker 1: to take a little contrary in view from you guys,
- 4:23Speaker 1: because I know how you kind.
- 4:23Speaker 2: Of feel about it.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Tyson Campbell obviously suffered a concussion the other day, and
- 4:28Speaker 1: not that that was complete freak injury obviously him just
- 4:30Speaker 1: falling down and kind of colliding with Kirk's knees at
- 4:33Speaker 1: that point. But I at this point, I'm really like,
- 4:36Speaker 1: let's kind of conserve what we have here. I think
- 4:39Speaker 1: when you know what you have, it's a little less
- 4:41Speaker 1: of trying to get them out there and playing. So
- 4:43Speaker 1: when we talk about you know, going full speed and
- 4:46Speaker 1: practice and getting that physicality, we saw it a little
- 4:48Speaker 1: bit yesterday, But then I think, did you mention it?
- 4:51Speaker 1: Doug kind of like pulled them in and it was
- 4:53Speaker 1: kind of like trying to well.
- 4:54Speaker 7: That's what Walker Little told Hey's Caroline from ten ten.
- 4:59Speaker 7: He said after period or before period eight.
- 5:03Speaker 6: He kind of brought him in.
- 5:05Speaker 7: I don't think he liked a couple of the hits
- 5:08Speaker 7: that happened early because it wasn't on the script for
- 5:11Speaker 7: the day. So I my sense is that there will
- 5:15Speaker 7: be some hitting today. It's a live day, so my
- 5:18Speaker 7: sense is that'll be the only one of training camp
- 5:20Speaker 7: because nothing else really fits unless they do some hitting
- 5:23Speaker 7: with the Lions, which I'd be surprised by.
- 5:25Speaker 6: So yeah, I mean.
- 5:29Speaker 7: Everything in camp is done for a reason. There's a
- 5:32Speaker 7: reason Doug wanted the hitting to be today if that's
- 5:34Speaker 7: the day, So I don't think he loved that.
- 5:37Speaker 6: And keep him safe, I agree, you say Contrarion.
- 5:40Speaker 1: View, Well, I know you guys are old school, so
- 5:43Speaker 1: you're the two a day kind of guys, and I'm
- 5:45Speaker 1: just like, super, let's keep everybody well.
- 5:47Speaker 4: It's worth noting that the mentality has changed, right. I
- 5:51Speaker 4: Mean I had this conversation with someone in the practice
- 5:54Speaker 4: field yesterday and it was how much do you want
- 5:57Speaker 4: to see the starters play in the day when they
- 6:01Speaker 4: practiced twice a day, you wanted to see the starters
- 6:03Speaker 4: play a little bit in the first, more in the second,
- 6:05Speaker 4: the most in the third, and then kind of peter
- 6:07Speaker 4: them out in the fourth and they don't play in
- 6:09Speaker 4: the fourth game. Well, now there's only three games, and
- 6:11Speaker 4: it seems like you're gonna see maybe a smidge of
- 6:14Speaker 4: the starters in game one, a little bit more too,
- 6:17Speaker 4: and then nobody in game three. And if anybody's even
- 6:20Speaker 4: nicked up, you don't practice them in August. Well, that
- 6:23Speaker 4: just goes against what the game used to be keyword
- 6:26Speaker 4: John being used to be. Now that's the way. Your way, right,
- 6:31Speaker 4: is the way that it's done.
- 6:32Speaker 7: The old man in me, which is me, it tells
- 6:38Speaker 7: me that you know, yes, this this is not training
- 6:44Speaker 7: camp anymore. These are pad at OTAs, which is fine.
- 6:48Speaker 7: Couldn't agree more. It's you know, campus two days where
- 6:52Speaker 7: you were just dragging by the end of the.
- 6:53Speaker 6: Day all that. It shouldn't be that way anymore.
- 6:57Speaker 7: The salary cap and the important of each key core
- 7:02Speaker 7: player has made this different. In the nineties, it was
- 7:05Speaker 7: a little bit this way, but it wasn't like now.
- 7:07Speaker 7: Teams have six or seven guys. If you lose two
- 7:10Speaker 7: of those six or seven core guys, your season is
- 7:13Speaker 7: over and as a coach, you're probably getting fired at
- 7:14Speaker 7: the end of the year because the owners going, why
- 7:17Speaker 7: did I pay all this to lose these guys in
- 7:19Speaker 7: training camp? You should manage this better. So I get
- 7:21Speaker 7: why they don't do it. And I think dougall hit today.
- 7:24Speaker 7: I think he believes I've got to take a little
- 7:26Speaker 7: and hits to the ground today. Right, he did that
- 7:28Speaker 7: last year once, right, that's today. I think he believes
- 7:31Speaker 7: there is a calculated risk needed to get ready, and
- 7:35Speaker 7: then you you mediate that risk by having it being
- 7:38Speaker 7: very short in a very controlled situation. But it just
- 7:40Speaker 7: can't hit constantly in training.
- 7:42Speaker 6: Can No, you can't.
- 7:43Speaker 4: And I'm not suggesting you go back to two a
- 7:44Speaker 4: days where you do hit like that. That doesn't make
- 7:46Speaker 4: any sense, especially when you're adding games to the schedule.
- 7:49Speaker 4: You know, these guys you got to manage your body
- 7:51Speaker 4: now over eighteen weeks, so you've got to make sure
- 7:54Speaker 4: that you're in shape to do that. But when well,
- 7:57Speaker 4: it's like the question that I asked Doug last week.
- 7:59Speaker 4: You know, you saw Joe Burrow go down with the
- 8:01Speaker 4: calf strain. Okay, and you saw who was it in Miami?
- 8:05Speaker 4: No Jaalen Ramsey. You know, not really even in a
- 8:07Speaker 4: contact drill, just negos, right, they're not even the pads.
- 8:11Speaker 6: It happens.
- 8:12Speaker 4: And so Doug said, you can't pull back entirely. You
- 8:15Speaker 4: can't just react to every injury that happens, and that's
- 8:19Speaker 4: the part of it where you kind of have to
- 8:20Speaker 4: stay true to that. I got to get some contact.
- 8:22Speaker 4: I got to get some hitting in because otherwise it's
- 8:25Speaker 4: October before my guys are used to the contact.
- 8:28Speaker 7: You have to have your plan and you have to
- 8:30Speaker 7: stick to it, except that sometimes there's gonna be risks,
- 8:34Speaker 7: it's gonna be injuries, but you have to trust that
- 8:35Speaker 7: you're playing will work over the long term.
- 8:37Speaker 4: Nante Fowler Junior, first day of rookie minute camp wearing
- 8:40Speaker 4: not even a helmet. Tear's his acl Those things happen.
- 8:43Speaker 1: Can't prevent those things going into our final big thing
- 8:46Speaker 1: game day. We have a game this week, They're playing
- 8:48Speaker 1: the Cowboys on Saturday, and we did talking about that.
- 8:51Speaker 1: How much are we going to see the starters? Trevor
- 8:53Speaker 1: was asked how much time he feels he needs to play,
- 8:56Speaker 1: If he needs to play in the preseason, I'd be
- 8:58Speaker 1: surprised if you see.
- 9:00Speaker 3: To get some reps, and especially you got a few
- 9:02Speaker 3: new pieces, get some get some live game reps where
- 9:05Speaker 3: it is full speed, it's full contact. You know there's
- 9:07Speaker 3: something on the line. You know I think that's definitely valuable.
- 9:10Speaker 3: You know who knows how much that will be. Whatever
- 9:12Speaker 3: it'll whatever it is, I'll be ready. And uh, you
- 9:14Speaker 3: just want to be clean. You want to execute, you
- 9:16Speaker 3: want your offense to look sharp, you want to you
- 9:18Speaker 3: want to make the plays, you want to be smart,
- 9:20Speaker 3: do all that stuff, and just be clean. I think
- 9:22Speaker 3: that's the main objective.
- 9:24Speaker 2: John, to let you get to it. I don't think
- 9:26Speaker 2: we see Trevor this week at all.
- 9:27Speaker 6: Well, after I said that, maybe a series.
- 9:30Speaker 4: We talked about this in the practice field yesterday. The
- 9:33Speaker 4: first preseason game was the Raiders. Last year, he didn't
- 9:35Speaker 4: play at all, but the second yeah right, yeah, but
- 9:39Speaker 4: this week, right, which was game two for them but
- 9:41Speaker 4: Game one for everyone else, he had twelve pass attempts.
- 9:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 9:44Speaker 6: I could see that.
- 9:45Speaker 7: Yeah, I mean I I could see that. I could
- 9:49Speaker 7: see into the second quarter next week and then nothing
- 9:53Speaker 7: in the last right.
- 9:54Speaker 4: Which gives you a couple of extra weeks because remember
- 9:56Speaker 4: now with the three games, you have that week between
- 9:59Speaker 4: the and the regular season, so you've got two weeks
- 10:02Speaker 4: at that point to get ready. So he'd have a
- 10:04Speaker 4: chance to be sitting for three weeks.
- 10:06Speaker 3: Now.
- 10:06Speaker 4: Someone would argue that three weeks. If not playing is
- 10:10Speaker 4: you're practicing, you're getting some time in. I'll offer this
- 10:13Speaker 4: counter two next week when we go to Detroit, they
- 10:16Speaker 4: have those two days of practicing against the Lions, and
- 10:21Speaker 4: I can remember in twenty nineteen when we went to Baltimore,
- 10:24Speaker 4: Doug Maron talking about how valuable that time was and
- 10:28Speaker 4: almost is valuable, if not more than the actual game reps,
- 10:32Speaker 4: was his response. So expect next week, despite what we
- 10:36Speaker 4: see this week in Dallas, expect to see a lot
- 10:38Speaker 4: of matchups where they get players on players, specific players
- 10:42Speaker 4: on specific players to try to get the most out
- 10:45Speaker 4: of those practice sessions as they can.
- 10:46Speaker 1: Joint practice can be super helpful for both teams, I think,
- 10:49Speaker 1: to finally get some action against you know, you're not
- 10:51Speaker 1: playing yourselves right, so that always helps and gets the
- 10:53Speaker 1: competition level up a little bit. All right, Coming up,
- 10:55Speaker 1: we're going to go to coach's corner hear what they
- 10:57Speaker 1: have to say about what they've been seeing so far
- 10:59Speaker 1: in training camp and who been standing out. Stay with
- 11:01Speaker 1: us now, welcome back to this Monday edition of jags
- 11:15Speaker 1: Am presented by Carshield. You can call car shield now
- 11:17Speaker 1: if your cars out of manufacturer's warranty. Do not get
- 11:20Speaker 1: stuck with expensive mechanical and computer repairs. Call car shield Now.
- 11:24Speaker 6: Welcome back.
- 11:25Speaker 1: We're here in Hyundai Podcast Studios, training camps, getting going,
- 11:28Speaker 1: players out there stretching. Another day out in the sun
- 11:32Speaker 1: and a live hit day. As we mentioned, it's going
- 11:33Speaker 1: to be very physical today, so we'll have a lot
- 11:36Speaker 1: to talk about later.
- 11:37Speaker 6: On in the week.
- 11:38Speaker 1: The good thing about training camp is we get to
- 11:40Speaker 1: see everything every single day. The coaches are talking every
- 11:42Speaker 1: single day, so we get to kind of go through
- 11:44Speaker 1: everything and hear their perspective of how the players are
- 11:47Speaker 1: doing at training camp. So obviously Doug Peterson talks every
- 11:50Speaker 1: couple of days and John you actually asked him specifically
- 11:54Speaker 1: about Tank Bigsby's progression, and here's what he's.
- 11:57Speaker 2: Had to say.
- 11:59Speaker 8: This kid is outside of like the size of speed,
- 12:02Speaker 8: I less of all that, but this kid is he's
- 12:04Speaker 8: a sponge, you know, and he's really a smart, smart
- 12:08Speaker 8: young running back.
- 12:09Speaker 9: Understands defense, understands you know. One of the things, really too,
- 12:15Speaker 9: that that's been impressive is how well he's taken the coaching,
- 12:18Speaker 9: whether it be from Bernie or myself or even Phil
- 12:21Speaker 9: you know, ralsher being able to take that and apply
- 12:24Speaker 9: it to what he's doing.
- 12:26Speaker 6: And he's he's just improven every day.
- 12:30Speaker 1: Before answer, Johnny, do you want to mention when you
- 12:32Speaker 1: ask this question, you preface it with asking about Bigsby,
- 12:35Speaker 1: and Doug looked at you with a blank face for
- 12:37Speaker 1: about ten seconds before he realized you meant tank because
- 12:40Speaker 1: they literally just think of him as a tank.
- 12:41Speaker 6: Yeah. I think that says a lot. Yeah. I had
- 12:45Speaker 6: a moment where I was like, did I ask the
- 12:47Speaker 6: wrong man? I think we all did.
- 12:48Speaker 7: Really, I've asked many bad questions. I didn't think that
- 12:51Speaker 7: was one of them. He's impressive and I have a
- 12:55Speaker 7: hot take coming up later about him, so I won't
- 12:59Speaker 7: burn all that off. What I will say is it's
- 13:02Speaker 7: significant what he talked about just there with how he's
- 13:06Speaker 7: taken coaching, because they have talked about Traves DTN and
- 13:11Speaker 7: needing to work with him on setting up blocks, setting
- 13:15Speaker 7: up runs, and becoming a better runner. That was something
- 13:19Speaker 7: Travis needed to work on this offseason. It sounds like
- 13:21Speaker 7: Bigsby's got that, So I think the kid might have
- 13:26Speaker 7: a chance to be a star.
- 13:27Speaker 4: So, which is long because John throws that term around
- 13:31Speaker 4: like manhole covers for most people, so I'll say this
- 13:33Speaker 4: about it. And I talked to him yesterday and we
- 13:36Speaker 4: shook hands because it was the first time I had
- 13:37Speaker 4: met him, and I came in, I said to you,
- 13:39Speaker 4: have you ever shook his hand. It's the strongest grip
- 13:42Speaker 4: I've ever felt. I mean it felt like he was
- 13:44Speaker 4: squeezing for me to go to my knees. I think
- 13:47Speaker 4: I have a pretty good grip. His is one hundred
- 13:49Speaker 4: times stronger. I mean, I was like, I was impressed.
- 13:52Speaker 2: He's not gonna be letting go of the football.
- 13:53Speaker 4: Well, and look, he's completely built different, John, And I
- 13:56Speaker 4: know you've got a hot take, so I don't want
- 13:57Speaker 4: to He is just a different body style than ETN.
- 14:01Speaker 4: And you can see this is a guy who at
- 14:05Speaker 4: Auburn ran between the tackles. I can remember when they
- 14:08Speaker 4: drafted him, you know, talking to people, this is a
- 14:10Speaker 4: very patient runner. He understands how to follow the blocks.
- 14:13Speaker 4: I think they used him differently at Auburn, and I
- 14:15Speaker 4: think it's more suited for him to come in and
- 14:17Speaker 4: have an impact as a rookie. Perhaps, but I won't
- 14:20Speaker 4: say that power.
- 14:21Speaker 6: Is his game because he's got it elsewhere on the offense.
- 14:24Speaker 1: Press Taylor spoke this week and he talked a little
- 14:27Speaker 1: bit about getting Chad Hall in as the wide receivers coach.
- 14:30Speaker 1: He was in Buffalo before and just kind of the
- 14:32Speaker 1: distinct style he's brought here and how he goes about
- 14:35Speaker 1: coaching the wide receivers.
- 14:37Speaker 10: Chad was our first call and we kind of extended
- 14:40Speaker 10: an offer, wanted to see where that went. Gave him
- 14:41Speaker 10: a lot of time with it because everything we knew
- 14:44Speaker 10: from him, from Doug's experience with him, mutual contacts with him,
- 14:48Speaker 10: Heath's relationship with him, we just felt like he'd be
- 14:50Speaker 10: a fit with us, with our room, with our staff.
- 14:54Speaker 10: So he was really the only one when after and
- 14:56Speaker 10: certainly excited with what he's done so far. There are
- 14:58Speaker 10: certain coaches that everybody the league is used to seeing
- 15:01Speaker 10: on sideline TV copies running up and down the sidelines.
- 15:04Speaker 10: Chad's one of those. So now he's on our sideline,
- 15:06Speaker 10: so hopefully that that brings some uh some value, some
- 15:09Speaker 10: in game energy to our group.
- 15:11Speaker 2: It was definitely popular in Buffalo.
- 15:12Speaker 4: We know St.
- 15:13Speaker 1: Fon Diggs was not happy when Chad Hall left town.
- 15:16Speaker 1: He do see him doing some quirky stuff, if only
- 15:17Speaker 1: because of the way that the wide receivers are reacting
- 15:20Speaker 1: to some of the drills because it looks like they're
- 15:21Speaker 1: doing it maybe for the first time. So he does
- 15:23Speaker 1: have kind of his own way.
- 15:24Speaker 6: And he's sort of the boxing drills where he's punching.
- 15:28Speaker 2: Hands like that.
- 15:28Speaker 1: You can tell they haven't done it before, so they're like, oh,
- 15:30Speaker 1: they pick it up quickly, of course, but just it's interesting.
- 15:33Speaker 4: They work out right, you know, they're they're right there
- 15:35Speaker 4: right in front of us in the morning, and he
- 15:37Speaker 4: puts them through really meticulous, detailed drills where he'll have them,
- 15:42Speaker 4: you know, torque to a certain angle with one foot
- 15:44Speaker 4: forward and one foot back and stop and then start
- 15:47Speaker 4: running and then stop before they hit the later and go.
- 15:49Speaker 4: I mean, he's really he's got a reason for everything
- 15:51Speaker 4: that he does. And it's interesting to watch the way
- 15:55Speaker 4: that those veteran receivers are adjusting to him. I think
- 15:58Speaker 4: they like him a lot.
- 15:59Speaker 2: I think they all love him. You'll take to what
- 16:01Speaker 2: he's saying very quickly.
- 16:03Speaker 6: Like but he's called different methods him, yes.
- 16:05Speaker 1: And that's got to be helpful, especially even Calvin Ridley's
- 16:07Speaker 1: excited to do a lot of that stuff. So it's
- 16:10Speaker 1: they're interesting to watch John, have you ever seen kind
- 16:12Speaker 1: of those kind of drills before in that way?
- 16:14Speaker 6: Not really.
- 16:16Speaker 7: My think with the position coach is this, if if
- 16:19Speaker 7: the players like it and buy in, then he can
- 16:22Speaker 7: be an effective coach that works and you know, you
- 16:25Speaker 7: can have all the knowledge you want.
- 16:27Speaker 6: If players, especially in this league where.
- 16:30Speaker 7: They tend to get jaded very quickly on a style
- 16:33Speaker 7: and can shut you out, if they're responding to it,
- 16:36Speaker 7: it's going to help them.
- 16:37Speaker 6: So he's got that ability, which is impressive.
- 16:40Speaker 1: All right, quickly, we'll go to special teams. Heath Farewell
- 16:42Speaker 1: spoke to us special teams coordinator and he told us
- 16:45Speaker 1: that in the off season, Andre Cisco came to him
- 16:46Speaker 1: and said he wanted to be part of special teams.
- 16:50Speaker 5: So the off season he came to me as a coach,
- 16:52Speaker 5: I'd love to be a returner, you know, get back
- 16:54Speaker 5: there with those guys. No problem, did it. He's been great.
- 16:57Speaker 5: He's he started out just learning the position, and if
- 17:01Speaker 5: you guys have watched some of the training camp practices,
- 17:03Speaker 5: he's been great. He catches him clean, he's smooth, he's reliable,
- 17:07Speaker 5: he's smart, he's tough. He's a guy that they can
- 17:10Speaker 5: compete for. That you know that emergency guy.
- 17:13Speaker 2: Now, love the initiative.
- 17:15Speaker 1: He does look great out there, but I think the
- 17:16Speaker 1: keyword is emergency because hopefully Andrew's.
- 17:18Speaker 2: Not doing that.
- 17:19Speaker 6: Yeah, I would have asked him to leave my office.
- 17:22Speaker 2: He's entertaining it.
- 17:24Speaker 7: No, I want you to be a free set. But
- 17:27Speaker 7: all kidding aside, you don't want him in that, just
- 17:29Speaker 7: like in the same press conference he was talking about
- 17:35Speaker 7: Christian Kirk and hey, it's great, Christian did a nice job.
- 17:39Speaker 7: We don't want him out there during that time. So, yeah,
- 17:41Speaker 7: it's an emergency thing, and I think it speaks to
- 17:44Speaker 7: Cisco's buy in and his approach player.
- 17:48Speaker 4: You like guys that want to do yeah, no doubt,
- 17:49Speaker 4: no doubt, multi dimensional players who are willing, but one thing.
- 17:53Speaker 2: They have to do that.
- 17:54Speaker 1: Yes, fingers Cross doesn't come to that point. All right,
- 17:56Speaker 1: coming up, we're going to do our hot Takes segment,
- 17:59Speaker 1: So stay with us. Training camp just getting going. We're
- 18:01Speaker 1: here in the Hundai Studios.
- 18:06Speaker 2: Move the freight, Move the freight.
- 18:07Speaker 1: Magellan Transport voted cool is office space in Jacksonville. You
- 18:10Speaker 1: can fly online at www dot Magellan Logistics dot com.
- 18:15Speaker 1: Welcome back to this Monday edition of jagsam presented by
- 18:18Speaker 1: car Shield and things are underway out there today. Going
- 18:22Speaker 1: to be live, hard hitting, full padded practice. We'll see
- 18:25Speaker 1: a lot about what this team is made of. I
- 18:27Speaker 1: have no doubt we're gonna do some quick hot takes
- 18:30Speaker 1: though before we get into that, and I'm excited to
- 18:33Speaker 1: see what you guys have for hot takes. Tempered mine
- 18:37Speaker 1: a little bit. Come on, I don't think I'm crazy crazy,
- 18:39Speaker 1: but fair enough.
- 18:41Speaker 6: All right, you go first, I will and I did. Look,
- 18:43Speaker 6: this is going to sound crazy.
- 18:46Speaker 4: I think that Dewey is in for a fight now
- 18:50Speaker 4: that I know they gave him guaranteed money, and it
- 18:52Speaker 4: would have been great to have your reality show this summer.
- 18:55Speaker 4: But there are two young safeties who are very talented
- 18:58Speaker 4: in Antonio Johnson from Texas A and M and Latavious Brittany,
- 19:04Speaker 4: the young undrafted rookie from Arkansas tall, both six three
- 19:09Speaker 4: effortless athletes, and they make plays every day on the
- 19:13Speaker 4: practice field.
- 19:15Speaker 6: I get it.
- 19:15Speaker 4: It was always the Jags. He's an institution here. He
- 19:18Speaker 4: made big plays into important games last year against Baltimore Dallas,
- 19:22Speaker 4: which is why the Jaguars gave him that guaranteed money.
- 19:25Speaker 4: So I think he makes the team. But man, he's
- 19:27Speaker 4: got a fight on his hands because these are two
- 19:28Speaker 4: young guys. He's really gonna have to push away and beat.
- 19:34Speaker 6: He's gonna have to.
- 19:34Speaker 4: Play in the preseason because these two guys are gonna
- 19:36Speaker 4: play and make plays.
- 19:37Speaker 6: If he doesn't make it, maybe he can go work
- 19:39Speaker 6: at Fox with Urban.
- 19:42Speaker 7: That.
- 19:43Speaker 6: No, yeah, I don't agree.
- 19:46Speaker 7: I mean I think he will be pushed, pushed in
- 19:51Speaker 7: a sense. I don't think there's a scenario where a
- 19:54Speaker 7: healthy dey Ingrid doesn't make the fifty three.
- 19:58Speaker 2: Selfishly, for my own entertainment sake, I hope you are wrong.
- 20:00Speaker 4: I'm just saying watch this battle because a couple of
- 20:04Speaker 4: years ago, before the legend of Dewey was born. Last
- 20:07Speaker 4: year we were talking about this was a guy that
- 20:09Speaker 4: was a special teamer and you're always trying to replace
- 20:11Speaker 4: those guys. Well, these two guys are going to push
- 20:13Speaker 4: him because you look at six foot three with the
- 20:16Speaker 4: long armspan, that's not his game. So they've got to
- 20:20Speaker 4: go prove it. He's proven it. I think he makes
- 20:22Speaker 4: the team. They gave him the guaranteed money. But he's
- 20:24Speaker 4: in for a fight.
- 20:26Speaker 1: All right, John, you told us your a little preview
- 20:28Speaker 1: that your hot take might be about Tank.
- 20:29Speaker 2: So what do you got?
- 20:30Speaker 7: Well, you know, and it's a little tricky because you
- 20:33Speaker 7: don't have a hot take. And I'm saying that Tank
- 20:35Speaker 7: Bigsby's going to push Traves Etn junior. And when I
- 20:38Speaker 7: say that, this is going to be a backfield much
- 20:43Speaker 7: more rotational than it was last year. So I don't
- 20:46Speaker 7: think there's any danger of Travis Ytn not being a
- 20:49Speaker 7: really important piece. I think it's going to look a
- 20:52Speaker 7: lot different than I did last year when after James
- 20:55Speaker 7: Robinson was traded, it was a clear where you looked
- 20:58Speaker 7: up and you were surprised when Travis Etn wasn't in
- 21:02Speaker 7: the game.
- 21:02Speaker 6: You were, okay, well they're in this package. It's different.
- 21:05Speaker 7: I think you're gonna get used to seeing Tank Bigsby.
- 21:07Speaker 7: I'm not sure I would guess that Travis will lead
- 21:11Speaker 7: the team in rushing. But the good part about this
- 21:16Speaker 7: take is him pushing it. I think is going to
- 21:18Speaker 7: push them both into the roles that they need to play.
- 21:22Speaker 7: I think Bigsby is going to be very good in
- 21:23Speaker 7: short yards, to be a very good base a runner.
- 21:27Speaker 7: And you wonder, Brian, if there isn't a scenario where
- 21:31Speaker 7: ETM has a really big season with maybe fewer carries,
- 21:36Speaker 7: fewer yards and more touchdowns and big plays, and you think.
- 21:39Speaker 6: Oh, that's what that kid is.
- 21:41Speaker 7: He's a big play player who can stress defenses all
- 21:44Speaker 7: the time, maybe a nine hundred yard rusher with Tank
- 21:47Speaker 7: running for eight hundred.
- 21:47Speaker 9: Well.
- 21:47Speaker 4: The interesting thing is earlier this week, late last week
- 21:51Speaker 4: they all run together. Doug was talking about sixteen hundred
- 21:53Speaker 4: yards for ETN. That's more East Jones Drew territory. That's
- 21:56Speaker 4: Fred Taylor territory. I just personally, I and I'm not
- 22:00Speaker 4: the head coach, but I don't see him as that
- 22:02Speaker 4: kind of of a bruiser, because.
- 22:04Speaker 6: That's what you have to be.
- 22:06Speaker 4: And I look at Bigsby and I think this kind
- 22:08Speaker 4: of is like the DeAndre Swift Miles Sanders backfield that
- 22:12Speaker 4: the Eagles use so well last year, so effectively. Of
- 22:15Speaker 4: course they had a more mobile quarterback, but I'm with you,
- 22:18Speaker 4: Bigsby is impressive and strong and powerful and looks like
- 22:22Speaker 4: that between the tackles runner that I still don't see
- 22:25Speaker 4: ETN as being that guy.
- 22:26Speaker 7: Yang both of their Day two rookies, Bretton Strange, who
- 22:29Speaker 7: I didn't mention in this I think that Day two
- 22:32Speaker 7: class we wrote it and said it right after the draft,
- 22:36Speaker 7: is going to give this offense the kind of versatility
- 22:39Speaker 7: that Doug had in Philly. I think it's taken him
- 22:42Speaker 7: a year to get that personnel and now all of
- 22:44Speaker 7: a sudden, you look and there is a lot of
- 22:46Speaker 7: you know, that was the theme over the weekend multiple
- 22:50Speaker 7: ness on offense. I think they've got it, and I
- 22:52Speaker 7: think Bigsby's a bigger reason they got lots of it.
- 22:55Speaker 1: All Right, I'm going with my hot take. Mine is
- 22:57Speaker 1: that Cooper Hodges will be starting on the offensive line
- 23:00Speaker 1: by next year. And I say this is a hot
- 23:02Speaker 1: tic only because he's a seventh thround pick.
- 23:04Speaker 2: Tugboat, tug boat and he does a.
- 23:06Speaker 1: Cart wheel before practice every day. Now he's out there
- 23:08Speaker 1: hyping up the crowd. I'm just a big fan in general.
- 23:10Speaker 1: But Brian, I know you heard a little bit about
- 23:13Speaker 1: how much Trent is a huge Yeah.
- 23:15Speaker 4: I mean Trent and I talked about him in the
- 23:17Speaker 4: spring and he's just he was wanting to hold back
- 23:20Speaker 4: because he wasn't wanting to go too far. But he's like, look,
- 23:23Speaker 4: this guy has everything it takes to play inside. Remember
- 23:26Speaker 4: and it's good that you said next year, he's making
- 23:28Speaker 4: that transition from tackle to guard. But he's got the power,
- 23:32Speaker 4: he's got the personality, he's got the intellect and awareness.
- 23:35Speaker 4: He understands acutely what he doesn't know and what it's
- 23:39Speaker 4: going to take. He was talking about being humped right
- 23:42Speaker 4: where that move where a defensive lineman gets a guy
- 23:45Speaker 4: going to there. You're giving me that funny look where
- 23:47Speaker 4: he goes to the right and he stopped. He goes,
- 23:49Speaker 4: I hope people understand what the hump move is. It's
- 23:51Speaker 4: where you get your momentum used against you in a
- 23:53Speaker 4: strong defensive lineman can throw you back the other direction.
- 23:57Speaker 4: And he said that was his Welcome to the NFL moment.
- 23:59Speaker 4: Inside the speed of the hands of Devon Hamilton totally
- 24:02Speaker 4: through him at the beginning. He's an incredible personality, a
- 24:05Speaker 4: great kid, and every day he walks out on the field,
- 24:08Speaker 4: he reminds himself that he's a kid from Baker County
- 24:11Speaker 4: that gets to play for his hometown team and it's
- 24:13Speaker 4: important to him. So I love the fact that he
- 24:16Speaker 4: has a nickname tug Boat, and I love the fact
- 24:18Speaker 4: that he understands what a rare opportunity.
- 24:21Speaker 2: He has fully seizing that opportunity at least thus far.
- 24:24Speaker 6: He's an awesome kid.
- 24:25Speaker 7: And you're talking about guys. Now, you know if Hod
- 24:28Speaker 7: just starts next year, Bigsby Strange, Now you're talking about
- 24:32Speaker 7: the next generation guys who you could see moving in
- 24:35Speaker 7: sustain a team because Brian, you know, next season we're
- 24:39Speaker 7: way ahead of ourself, is going to look different in
- 24:42Speaker 7: terms of some decisions they have to make, and they
- 24:44Speaker 7: have started drafting and developing.
- 24:45Speaker 6: So these three stories are big stories.
- 24:47Speaker 4: People in Jacksonville will be surprised. Just to stawn that
- 24:49Speaker 4: theme real quick about how different things have to become
- 24:52Speaker 4: with a quarterback that you have to pay. We've never
- 24:55Speaker 4: had one here that we've had to pay like this
- 24:57Speaker 4: and be a money game. They will make some decisions
- 24:59Speaker 4: that will make people whoa that guy can still play, Yeah,
- 25:02Speaker 4: but that's the guy we got to pay and protect.
- 25:05Speaker 1: So I know that will come paramount. But until then,
- 25:07Speaker 1: I am team tugboat.
- 25:09Speaker 6: To that point, team tugboat.
- 25:10Speaker 1: All right, practice underway, come back, we'll preview what we
- 25:13Speaker 1: got going on for the rest of the week. Stay
- 25:16Speaker 1: with us for Jagsam Jagspams if you want customized Jaguars
- 25:25Speaker 1: furniture for your home. You can check out zipchair dot
- 25:28Speaker 1: com to rouse all customizable options. Zip Chair is furniture
- 25:32Speaker 1: for fans. Had a very special practice in the stadium
- 25:36Speaker 1: on Saturday, which was very hot for us. I was
- 25:40Speaker 1: sweating in there, so I know they were. But it
- 25:42Speaker 1: was Military Appreciation Day, which is always special, especially in
- 25:46Speaker 1: this town, and all of the players had very specialized
- 25:50Speaker 1: Camo jerseys I think made specifically for the day, and
- 25:52Speaker 1: they were able to swap them with veterans after the game,
- 25:56Speaker 1: and that was just such a special moment. They all
- 25:58Speaker 1: came out in matt at midfield and if you were there,
- 26:00Speaker 1: it was just it was something to be a part of.
- 26:02Speaker 1: I spoke to do it and he said he's always
- 26:04Speaker 1: excited when they have, you know, military members and veterans
- 26:07Speaker 1: with them on the field, and it was just a
- 26:09Speaker 1: very special little moment that you know, takes you out
- 26:11Speaker 1: of oh it's hot, it's training camp, and kind of
- 26:13Speaker 1: reminds you what's important.
- 26:14Speaker 4: I don't know who got in line right across from
- 26:17Speaker 4: Trevor Lawrence, but I saw some people kind of jockeying
- 26:19Speaker 4: for position acrossroom.
- 26:20Speaker 1: Players they want to be but I think just as
- 26:22Speaker 1: special day all around.
- 26:24Speaker 2: That was great, and it's game week.
- 26:26Speaker 1: We have Dallas Is coming up on Saturday. Anything you
- 26:29Speaker 1: guys are particularly looking forward to when it comes to that,
- 26:31Speaker 1: or just seeing the young guys.
- 26:32Speaker 7: Out there, I want to be excited, but I also
- 26:37Speaker 7: just experienced it in the third quarter of this game.
- 26:39Speaker 6: I would be ready for it to be over with,
- 26:41Speaker 6: and I'm not.
- 26:42Speaker 7: I'm not discinding of people get excited about preseason, but
- 26:44Speaker 7: it's it's tough. I am looking for the rookies because
- 26:48Speaker 7: I think they will be interesting this year for the future.
- 26:52Speaker 7: So I do think with Strange and Bigsby and some
- 26:54Speaker 7: guys like that, there are storylines to watch this week
- 26:58Speaker 7: beyond maybe the first TOO series, so that'll be interesting.
- 27:01Speaker 4: Timmy, getting ready for a preseason broadcast is a lot
- 27:04Speaker 4: more intensive than a regular season broadcast, a lot more people,
- 27:08Speaker 4: because you're talking about I'm going to spend this entire
- 27:10Speaker 4: week looking at the twos and threes. I won't waste
- 27:12Speaker 4: a lot of time with the ones because they're not
- 27:14Speaker 4: going to play a lot this week, so we'll focus
- 27:17Speaker 4: on the twos and the threes and the storylines down
- 27:19Speaker 4: there and Jags Wired debuts this week Wednesday Night, the
- 27:22Speaker 4: very first edition. It's sort of a look back at
- 27:24Speaker 4: the off season from the inside of the Jaguars organization, and.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Of course we'll have you covered for game day as well,
- 27:30Speaker 1: pregame and the broadcast, and Jags Am is now back
- 27:33Speaker 1: to three days a week, so we will be here
- 27:34Speaker 1: on Wednesday and Thursday morning covering all of your training
- 27:38Speaker 1: camp stories for you. So thank you for joining us
- 27:40Speaker 1: once again, and we'll see you later in the week.
