Speaker 1: Well as promised. I'm wandling up Alex Media and you
• 0:06
Speaker 1: heard it with loud Termanella's take. We have Ryan the
• 0:09
Speaker 1: night I did Terminala's take on Opening Night because this
• 0:12
Speaker 1: kid over here went not just Mets Opening Day, but
• 0:16
Speaker 1: the Islanders that night in a playoff push by the way,
• 0:18
Speaker 1: I mean, they really upped themselves in the seating. But Ryan,
• 0:22
Speaker 1: your day? Were you tired after Thursday night? I mean
• 0:25
Speaker 1: you were at Opening Day for the Mets and then
• 0:26
Speaker 1: the Islander game that night.
• 0:27
Speaker 2: Oh yeah, you should have seen me Friday when I
• 0:29
Speaker 2: woke up, I felt like a zombie, even after I
• 0:31
Speaker 2: normally at Howard's rest, and very much for good reason.
• 0:34
Speaker 2: I mean, and it's not even just the two games
• 0:37
Speaker 2: in one day aspect of it, but also, Alex, I
• 0:40
Speaker 2: took like thirteen thousand steps. That's a lot for me.
• 0:44
Speaker 1: Well from Pag's perspective, though, how cool was it? Do
• 0:47
Speaker 1: you ever do those kind of double headers type of
• 0:48
  Speaker 1: thing often?
• 0:50
Speaker 2: Definitely, not often at all? And you know, it's actually
• 0:52
Speaker 2: funny you bring that up. I was gonna do it
• 0:54
Speaker 2: last year for Mets Opening Day because the Isles they
• 0:58
Speaker 2: had a game that night, and I believe it was
• 1:00
Speaker 2: against the Minnesota Wild at that point. So the Mets
• 1:03
Speaker 2: they had their home opener that afternoon against the Toronto
• 1:07
Speaker 2: Blue Jays, which they of course won, and then the
• 1:09
Speaker 2: Islanders were playing that night two, which I don't recall
• 1:13
Speaker 2: if they won or not. I mean, really, that whole
• 1:15
Speaker 2: twenty four to twenty five season for them was pretty
• 1:17
Speaker 2: murky in hindsight. I mean, they were just a terrible
• 1:20
Speaker 2: hockey team by that point, not really watchable, I would say,
• 1:24
Speaker 2: But it's kind of an interesting domino effect that ultimately,
• 1:29
Speaker 2: by me not doing the doubleheader that day, it kind
• 1:32
Speaker 2: of allowed me to go to their next home game
• 1:35
Speaker 2: on April the sixth or April the fifth, I forget
• 1:40
Speaker 2: the day, but either way, the next home game after
• 1:42
Speaker 2: that one was Alex Ovechkin scoring his eight hundred ninety
• 1:46
  Speaker 2: fifth goals.
• 1:46
Speaker 1: And then you came in too. I believe you did
• 1:49
Speaker 1: a couple of shows that day for us at nine.
• 1:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, real talk with Dottie Herman ten am right after that,
• 1:54
Speaker 2: leaving to go to ubs and rushing to try to
• 1:58
Speaker 2: get to the arena as quick as I could, and
• 2:00
Speaker 2: then after the game, after socializing it up with some
• 2:03
Speaker 2: guys from Ottawa who actually made the trip to Long
• 2:05
Speaker 2: Island to go see history, coming back in for shake
• 2:09
Speaker 2: it Off with Mert and Lucas. I mean, that was
• 2:11
Speaker 2: a fun time, all right.
• 2:13
Speaker 1: This is what I'm gonna get for YouTube shorts. Apparently
• 2:15
Speaker 1: you packed both jerseys in your bag for that day.
• 2:18
Speaker 1: I mean you that type of guy that actually packs
• 2:20
Speaker 1: multiple jerseys for different events. Is that what you are see?
• 2:23
Speaker 2: Listen, if I know I'm going to both games, that
• 2:25
Speaker 2: is something I would do, and that is exactly something
• 2:27
Speaker 2: I did on Thursday, Alex. So you see, I wore
• 2:30
Speaker 2: the Wan Sodo jersey to City Field for Mets Opening Day,
• 2:34
Speaker 2: and then I packed an Islanders Fisherman jersey in my
• 2:36
Speaker 2: bag as well to bring to UBS, knowing that I
• 2:39
Speaker 2: was gonna be going there and YouTube.
• 2:41
Speaker 1: Probably something in my Yankee jersey. But I actually got
• 2:43
Speaker 1: a picture with the Commissioners Trophy and a couple other
• 2:45
Speaker 1: jerseys we could check out at Alex the nice one
• 2:48
Speaker 1: as well. Anyway, Ryan, so you pack the jerseys, then
• 2:52
Speaker 1: you do all that. How was your voice? I mean,
• 2:55
Speaker 1: you need to do a lot of voice work at
• 2:56
Speaker 1: the radio stations. How was your voice at the end
• 2:58
  Speaker 1: of the day.
• 2:59
Speaker 2: It actually wasn't too bad. Believe it or not. I mean, granted,
• 3:02
Speaker 2: I don't think I really did that much screaming over there. Okay,
• 3:05
  Speaker 2: I did a little bit. I would be a liar
• 3:09
Speaker 2: to deny that, but not really in a way where
• 3:12
Speaker 2: there's no way in hell I would be able to
• 3:14
Speaker 2: talk tomorrow if that were the case.
• 3:16
Speaker 1: And then Skeins get knocked out. I mean that was
• 3:18
Speaker 1: the big story line for me, is because as you know,
• 3:20
Speaker 1: and I think I text you this, I'm worried about
• 3:22
Speaker 1: the Met's bottom of the lineup right now. I think
• 3:24
Speaker 1: the top half is pretty solid.
• 3:25
Speaker 2: No, it's very much so apart from the Boba Shad.
• 3:29
Speaker 2: We'll get to him.
• 3:30
Speaker 1: They knock off Skeens after not even get out of
• 3:33
Speaker 1: the first inning. I mean, I was impressive for opening day.
• 3:35
Speaker 2: For the reigning Cy Young Winner two, one of the
• 3:38
Speaker 2: two best pictures on planet Earth, and you knock him
• 3:42
Speaker 2: out and not even the first inning. I was in disbelief.
• 3:46
Speaker 2: I think everybody else in that ballpark was, and even
• 3:49
Speaker 2: you saw the reactions of some of the Pirate fans there.
• 3:52
Speaker 2: Livy done too, I mean she made the trip to
• 3:54
Speaker 2: New York with her boyfriend Paul Skeens for opening day
• 3:58
Speaker 2: and you could see the video videos in your feed
• 4:01
Speaker 2: of her just sitting with her shades on on the
• 4:04
Speaker 2: third base side of city field, just you know, I
• 4:08
Speaker 2: didn't really know if it was in disgust per se
• 4:10
Speaker 2: or just that she was stunned, But.
• 4:12
Speaker 1: And I wondered if something had the WBC, because for
• 4:15
Speaker 1: him to have that kind of performance his first real
• 4:17
Speaker 1: start after WBC is very is alarming. If I'm a
• 4:20
  Speaker 1: Pirate fan.
• 4:20
Speaker 2: No that too, but even also Logan Webb getting shelled
• 4:23
Speaker 2: on opening night in San fran by the Yanks. I mean,
• 4:27
Speaker 2: he also pitched a lot on the WBC as well,
• 4:29
Speaker 2: So you really have to wonder if that's kind of
• 4:32
Speaker 2: you know, been a quite an interesting feeling going among
• 4:35
Speaker 2: these pitchers this you know, what's the word I'm looking
• 4:39
Speaker 2: for here? You know, really arend right now?
• 4:42
  Speaker 1: Yeah?
• 4:42
Speaker 2: Really a trend because you have those two guys not
• 4:47
Speaker 2: really looking like themselves after pitching in the WBC. But
• 4:50
Speaker 2: also you have Nolan McLain kind of breaking that trend,
• 4:53
Speaker 2: had a pretty good outing against the Bucks in the
• 4:55
Speaker 2: series finale yesterday, and.
• 4:57
Speaker 1: You thought they might get the sweep. But anyway, so close,
• 5:00
Speaker 1: let me let me ask you, that's the abs challenge
• 5:03
Speaker 1: in full swing very much. So I think you guys
• 5:05
Speaker 1: had a couple in that game alone. There were lous
• 5:07
Speaker 1: arguing that they should have that unlimited, and I kind
• 5:10
Speaker 1: of agree. It's a very simple method, tap of the
• 5:12
Speaker 1: cap or helmet. Maybe they should keep it unlimited, not
• 5:15
Speaker 1: limit the challenges. What do you think?
• 5:17
Speaker 2: No, they definitely should because if anything abs and we've
• 5:21
Speaker 2: been seeing this a ton in opening weekend, this is
• 5:25
Speaker 2: pretty much the perfect opportunity for the players to get
• 5:27
Speaker 2: power here and to overrule and be honest, and you
• 5:33
Speaker 2: saw that a ton you.
• 5:34
Speaker 1: Were in the batter's box. I know when you were
• 5:35
Speaker 1: a kid. But I mean anybody who's played the game
• 5:37
Speaker 1: for as long as these guys have, they know what
• 5:39
Speaker 1: a ball and strike as far as I'm going, They've
• 5:41
Speaker 1: been around the game a long time to know. So
• 5:43
Speaker 1: my question is is this, if I'm start getting it
• 5:46
Speaker 1: wrong even more, does that change the training of these umpires?
• 5:51
Speaker 1: I think it has to write, I.
• 5:52
Speaker 2: Mean absolutely, And you know a perfect example. You look
• 5:55
Speaker 2: at a guy like Cebe Buckner and I'm sure you
• 5:58
Speaker 2: saw this in the Red series over the week and
• 6:00
Speaker 2: Alex where he got I believe it was six ABS
• 6:04
Speaker 2: calls wrong or overturned just in his game behind the
• 6:10
Speaker 2: dish alone, and two of them were back to back.
• 6:13
Speaker 2: Mind right, where you saw the crowd at Great American
• 6:17
Speaker 2: Ballpark just going even more nuts with every call that
• 6:20
Speaker 2: was overturned, and even the second straight time around where
• 6:26
Speaker 2: CB had to announce that the batter's challenging the previous pitch.
• 6:31
Speaker 2: He seemed visibly annoyed. And you wonder why he's been
• 6:36
Speaker 2: in the league so long, but yet he hasn't even
• 6:39
Speaker 2: appeared in a World Series, and you wonder why that's
• 6:41
  Speaker 2: the case.
• 6:42
Speaker 1: Right, And you wonder this, I know Eugenius were has
• 6:44
Speaker 1: actually did it back to back pitches. But then you
• 6:47
Speaker 1: see the Twins manager got ejected over an ABS overturned.
• 6:50
Speaker 1: It's getting kind of crazier if you have a manager
• 6:52
Speaker 1: ejected by the by the robots as they were saying.
• 6:55
Speaker 2: Yeah, an all time call from Kevin Brown right there,
• 6:58
Speaker 2: like he's arguing with the robots that Fried be right,
• 7:02
Speaker 2: that is there. But then also his argument was that
• 7:07
Speaker 2: Ryan Helsley met legend took a little bit too long
• 7:10
Speaker 2: to call for ABS in the first place, which if
• 7:13
Speaker 2: you look at the replay, I don't think he took
• 7:15
Speaker 2: that long. If anything, he was tapping on his hat
• 7:18
Speaker 2: as soon as he knew that it was a ball.
• 7:22
Speaker 2: He's arguing with the wall.
• 7:23
Speaker 1: I have to ask others this too, could the abs.
• 7:27
Speaker 1: It's almost like a Game seven situation right in the
• 7:29
Speaker 1: World Series. No way they let ABS be overturning a
• 7:33
Speaker 1: game winning call or overturning whatever. Right, That's not gonna happen,
• 7:37
  Speaker 1: is it.
• 7:37
Speaker 2: It'll happen at some point. I mean, just just you wait,
• 7:39
Speaker 2: I mean, because you also go back to so many
• 7:43
  Speaker 2: other games.
• 7:44
Speaker 1: Too, this ABS overturns this weekend too.
• 7:46
Speaker 2: Yeah, because then also this opens a whole new can
• 7:48
Speaker 2: of worms where you go in a past playoff series
• 7:52
Speaker 2: and wonder, well, how would these series have been impacted
• 7:56
Speaker 2: if ABS were a thing back then? And you look
• 7:59
Speaker 2: at the ninety seven NLCS, the infamous Eric reg game
• 8:03
Speaker 2: where infamously gave Levon Hernandez a lot of leniency when
• 8:09
Speaker 2: it came to his balls and strike calls, because there
• 8:13
Speaker 2: were a lot of pitches that Atlanta hitters were facing
• 8:16
Speaker 2: that were way outside and it looked very obvious on
• 8:19
Speaker 2: the camera, but Eric Greig was calling them strikes behind
• 8:21
Speaker 2: the plate, and it got to a point where Atlanta hitters.
• 8:24
Speaker 2: They just had to swing it pitches that they knew
• 8:28
Speaker 2: were out of the zone, Pitches that Haave Baias would
• 8:31
Speaker 2: have easily swung at because they knew they were going
• 8:34
Speaker 2: to get called strikes anyway. It was ludicrous and you
• 8:37
Speaker 2: just have to wonder if ABS were a thing back
• 8:41
Speaker 2: then in ninety seven, would that have changed the series altogether?
• 8:45
Speaker 2: And really would that have changed the trajectory for the
• 8:47
Speaker 2: Marlins franchise because they went on to win the NLCS
• 8:49
Speaker 2: they got the momentum back from that. I mean, this
• 8:52
Speaker 2: has the chance to change history right here by having
• 8:55
Speaker 2: ABS being implemented, especially in these big playoff games.
• 8:59
Speaker 1: And I know you're so, I'm gonna dig a little bit.
• 9:01
Speaker 1: If challenges were around, Johan Santina would not be the
• 9:05
Speaker 1: first met no hitter, that's for shore.
• 9:07
Speaker 2: He definitely would not have.
• 9:08
Speaker 1: But that's history. That's why we have the game. How
• 9:10
Speaker 1: about the call interference thirty years ago with Jeter. I
• 9:13
Speaker 1: mean that would have been overturned too, but oh easily.
• 9:16
Speaker 2: And I mean that didn't even an ABS thing too.
• 9:19
Speaker 2: But just with the general replay rules that were introduced
• 9:22
Speaker 2: in twenty fourteen, and even with the Jeter call. We
• 9:25
Speaker 2: were still about three years away up until the first
• 9:29
Speaker 2: instance of replay being used to overturn a call in baseball.
• 9:32
Speaker 2: I think it was nineteen ninety nine actually that the
• 9:35
Speaker 2: first instance of it happened, although it was very rare
• 9:39
  Speaker 2: until twenty fourteen.
• 9:40
Speaker 1: Now, what about college ball, because I know in college
• 9:42
Speaker 1: basketball they've been going to the review a lot, especially
• 9:44
Speaker 1: in the last couple of minutes of play. They go
• 9:47
Speaker 1: to the review and then there was some controversy where
• 9:50
  Speaker 1: on a goaltending what's reviewable, what's not reviewable? I mean,
• 9:54
Speaker 1: but they're going to little monitor a lot in March madness,
• 9:56
  Speaker 1: aren't they?
• 9:57
Speaker 2: Oh for sure? I mean, especially especially now as are
• 10:01
Speaker 2: approach in Final four at all, it's only gonna just
• 10:06
Speaker 2: increase in size and volume from them. And who could
• 10:09
  Speaker 2: blame them.
• 10:10
Speaker 1: You're gonna definitely react to the Mullens three last night
• 10:13
Speaker 1: to bust both of our brackets, by the way, insane,
• 10:17
Speaker 1: But Yukhon always finds a way to win. I'm Suregreing
• 10:19
Speaker 1: talk about that on Pike's perspective as well today.
• 10:21
Speaker 2: Oh for sure, because Brailla Mullins, thank you, thank you
• 10:25
Speaker 2: for busting my bracket. Thank you for busting everybody's brackets. See,
• 10:29
Speaker 2: I love the chaos that March brings. At the same time, though,
• 10:33
Speaker 2: like we all go into March knowing that our brackets
• 10:35
Speaker 2: are gonna be busted one way or another. So can
• 10:37
Speaker 2: you really feel disappointed about that?
• 10:39
Speaker 1: No? I love it. As I said in the beginning,
• 10:42
Speaker 1: I love the upifs. I live for it. When TCU
• 10:44
Speaker 1: busted Ohio State, I'm like, good, let's see more upsets.
• 10:47
Speaker 1: When Texas went from the first four to the sweet sixteen,
• 10:51
Speaker 1: I love that. You know that that's the way basketball
• 10:53
Speaker 1: and March Madness should be. Now, Ryan, I wonder if
• 10:57
Speaker 1: there was a crew of you not that went from
• 11:00
Speaker 1: Cityfield to Ubs. Did you find anybody else that went
• 11:03
Speaker 1: to that game that night?
• 11:04
Speaker 2: Yeah? So another friend of mine he actually did pull
• 11:07
Speaker 2: the doubleheader, not just Thursday, but he also did it
• 11:11
Speaker 2: Saturday too, So shout out to my friend John for
• 11:15
Speaker 2: doing that. He was telling me a lot about how
• 11:17
Speaker 2: he was doing it Saturday as well, where the Islanders
• 11:21
Speaker 2: they played at one o'clock mattin Ae Day game at
• 11:24
Speaker 2: Ubs and they had a very convincing win, five to
• 11:29
Speaker 2: two victory over the two time defending Cup champion Florida Panthers,
• 11:32
Speaker 2: where it sure as hell did not look that way
• 11:34
Speaker 2: five to start, but not even just going down to
• 11:37
Speaker 2: nothing at the hands of Matthew t Chuck and Matthew
• 11:40
Speaker 2: ta Chuck alone, but then scoring five goals in the
• 11:44
Speaker 2: second period to what a lot of Ales fans, including myself,
• 11:48
Speaker 2: might argue as saving their season right there. And it
• 11:51
Speaker 2: wasn't even the big guys contributing and finding the back
• 11:55
Speaker 2: of the net, but it was really the fourth liners
• 11:57
Speaker 2: that stepped up there too, Like you had Mark gack
• 12:00
Speaker 2: hom Casey Suzekis finding the back of the net, even
• 12:03
Speaker 2: Brandon Chen their newest acquisition, with a three point game,
• 12:06
Speaker 2: so that was huge. And then who have.
• 12:08
Speaker 1: Dot Sezeker's beforeth line because he was such a prom
• 12:11
Speaker 1: and I still think he's a prominent player for the Islanders,
• 12:13
  Speaker 1: is he not?
• 12:14
Speaker 2: Oh, he's still very much is this? I mean he's
• 12:15
Speaker 2: the last remaining member of that identity line right there,
• 12:18
Speaker 2: because Marty he's obviously still involved with the team, special
• 12:21
Speaker 2: advisor to Matthew darsh and then Clutterbuck he's of course
• 12:26
Speaker 2: retired as well, but as Shannon Hogan's right hand man
• 12:31
Speaker 2: on the MSG Networks sat on pregame and post games,
• 12:35
Speaker 2: so you know they're still involved with the team one
• 12:37
Speaker 2: way or another, and you got to wonder if Zeker
• 12:39
Speaker 2: might have a similar role there. But really a lot
• 12:42
Speaker 2: of continuity as we approach really half a decade since
• 12:47
Speaker 2: that magical run to the Stanley Cup semifinals in.
• 12:51
Speaker 1: One where you were not at that time.
• 12:54
Speaker 2: So I was just getting in there at that point,
• 12:57
Speaker 2: like I chattowed a couple of the playoff games up
• 12:59
Speaker 2: to that point, just really being a sponge and seeing
• 13:03
Speaker 2: what it was actually like in the biggest moments of
• 13:06
Speaker 2: that season. So it was pretty cool to see from
• 13:08
  Speaker 2: behind the board.
• 13:09
Speaker 1: All right. And of course one guy I always say
• 13:11
Speaker 1: is and I see what happens when he's healthy. Anders
• 13:14
Speaker 1: Lee changed that whole dynamic. I know he got Matt Schaeffer,
• 13:16
Speaker 1: but the vet anders Lee is your rock. I don't
• 13:20
  Speaker 1: care what.
• 13:20
Speaker 2: Anybody says, no question, He's been the one constant really
• 13:23
Speaker 2: since twenty thirteen, especially when you really don't have a
• 13:26
Speaker 2: lot of them anymore. But now the fact that his
• 13:29
Speaker 2: contract still on an expiring deal and who knows what's
• 13:33
Speaker 2: going to happen to him now, Yes, the I was
• 13:35
  Speaker 2: obviously locked up.
• 13:36
  Speaker 1: J G.
• 13:36
Speaker 2: Pachow for another three years, which is definitely going to
• 13:39
Speaker 2: be very good for them, especially in the long run.
• 13:42
  Speaker 1: JG.
• 13:42
Speaker 2: Pago always known as a playoff warrior, so he'll definitely
• 13:45
Speaker 2: help there come springtime if they're going to make more runs.
• 13:47
Speaker 2: But as far as Lee is concerned, I think a
• 13:51
Speaker 2: lot of people were expecting that maybe he'd get one
• 13:54
Speaker 2: more big contract to just make him an Islander lifer,
• 13:58
Speaker 2: and it hasn't happened yet. Maybe it won't happen. Nobody
• 14:02
Speaker 2: really knows at this point. And yeah, he may not
• 14:06
Speaker 2: be the player that he was, say five years ago,
• 14:09
Speaker 2: even seven years ago when he was a forty goal scorer, right,
• 14:12
Speaker 2: definitely is not that player back then, but he could
• 14:14
Speaker 2: still provide you a lot of value. There are a
• 14:17
Speaker 2: lot of veteran expertise, And that's kind of the same
• 14:20
Speaker 2: thing that I was saying about Brandon Sheen when Matthew
• 14:23
Speaker 2: darsh traded to acquire him, because yes, on paper, Sheen
• 14:29
Speaker 2: starting to get on the wrong side of thirty and
• 14:32
Speaker 2: they gave up a first round pick for him. But
• 14:35
Speaker 2: that being said, former captain, and he's still very valuable
• 14:40
Speaker 2: to a team making a push, So you can justify
• 14:42
Speaker 2: that especially since the pick they gave up it was
• 14:45
Speaker 2: the Colorado first that they got for brock Nelson. It's
• 14:48
Speaker 2: basically a borderline second round pick at this point.
• 14:50
Speaker 1: Well, we'll have to see how it all shakes up. Now,
• 14:53
Speaker 1: one last thing, and I feel like, well, a couple
• 14:54
Speaker 1: more things, But I feel like since you and I
• 14:57
Speaker 1: and Lou have talked about the Islanders from February on,
• 15:00
Speaker 1: there's been a progression, not a regression, which is very
• 15:02
Speaker 1: important because I remember Lou was a little nervous. You
• 15:04
Speaker 1: were a little nervous back to the Oh yeah, Now
• 15:06
Speaker 1: all of a sudden they're solid in the fifth or
• 15:08
Speaker 1: sixth spot, and I think they were going to get
• 15:10
Speaker 1: there so fast, but here they.
• 15:12
Speaker 2: Are, try second seed in the Metro. At the time
• 15:14
Speaker 2: we're recording this, do you ever think that was gonna
• 15:16
  Speaker 2: be possitive?
• 15:17
Speaker 1: I think that was gonna be possible.
• 15:18
Speaker 2: Because I sure as heck did not think so come
• 15:20
Speaker 2: opening night. And I keep circling back to Opening night.
• 15:25
Speaker 2: Really whatever, I talk about the Islanders here because Alex,
• 15:28
Speaker 2: if you remember, I said, if this team can end
• 15:31
Speaker 2: the season with like eighty five points or something like that,
• 15:34
Speaker 2: that's good enough with me. That's progress. As it stands.
• 15:38
Speaker 2: Never in my wildest dreams did I think that they
• 15:40
Speaker 2: would be fighting for the second seed in the Metro Division,
• 15:43
Speaker 2: and not only that, but also going into the matchup
• 15:47
Speaker 2: later tonight against the Pittsburgh Penguins at Ubs. This is
• 15:50
Speaker 2: a battle for the second seed in the Metro right here,
• 15:54
Speaker 2: massive playoff implications on both sides. Never did I think
• 15:58
Speaker 2: this would be a thing.
• 15:59
Speaker 1: And where's game tonight?
• 16:01
  Speaker 2: Ubs? Oh?
• 16:02
  Speaker 1: Ubs?
• 16:02
Speaker 2: Maybe? Yeah, seven o'clock puck drop. It's gonna be quite
• 16:04
  Speaker 2: a fun one.
• 16:05
Speaker 1: Maybe I'll get a tickpiclink and go to the game tonight.
• 16:08
Speaker 1: It seems like it's gonna be a crucial one. Okay,
• 16:10
Speaker 1: a couple more things. Did you notice a Hamilton singer
• 16:15
Speaker 1: flubbing the anthem? Oh? I was there for that, and
• 16:18
Speaker 1: right what I should notice? Also?
• 16:20
Speaker 2: Oh everybody did, and we were all thinking that's not
• 16:23
Speaker 2: how the anthem is normally supposed to sound, but it happens.
• 16:29
  Speaker 2: It was.
• 16:29
Speaker 1: It was a funny moment. I didn't think it would
• 16:31
Speaker 1: go viral like it did, but boy, everybody picked up on.
• 16:33
Speaker 2: It was a funny goof, for sure, but also a
• 16:35
Speaker 2: lot of Mets haters thinking that, oh, this is surely
• 16:39
Speaker 2: going to be the omen that breaks the twenty twenty
• 16:42
Speaker 2: six Mets season. But you know, we got thick skin
• 16:45
Speaker 2: over here in Queens. We're used to this, all right.
• 16:48
Speaker 1: Did you take advantage of the in radio usage where
• 16:51
Speaker 1: you can actually listen to the game in the stadium.
• 16:54
Speaker 2: Now, I believe Yeah, without a seven to eight second
• 16:56
Speaker 2: delay in there. I love every bit of it. And
• 16:59
Speaker 2: it always just feels so awkward though, like going to
• 17:02
Speaker 2: the bathroom or whatever during the action and you can
• 17:06
Speaker 2: hear the crowd reaction if the Mets had a big
• 17:08
Speaker 2: moment or something like that, like for example, Pete Alonzo
• 17:12
Speaker 2: goes deep and you hear the crowd reaction before you
• 17:15
Speaker 2: hear how he call like eight seconds later in the bathrooms,
• 17:19
  Speaker 2: And I don't know, that's a little awkward if you
• 17:21
Speaker 2: ask me. But no, it's definitely a welcome change. And
• 17:24
Speaker 2: granted it's not really a big one in the grand
• 17:27
Speaker 2: scheme of things, but it's still changed that the fans
• 17:29
Speaker 2: are going to pick up on and I know they're
• 17:30
Speaker 2: going to appreciate that, especially time. Yeah, especially that this
• 17:34
Speaker 2: is how he's last season had a heck of a
• 17:36
Speaker 2: run with the Mets and everybody.
• 17:39
Speaker 1: Opening the opening lineup and get the Storry lineup for
• 17:42
Speaker 1: Opening Day. That was special.
• 17:43
Speaker 2: So like, can he just come back every year just
• 17:46
  Speaker 2: to do that?
• 17:47
Speaker 1: I think he might. You know, Sam Rosen still comes
• 17:49
Speaker 1: back to the Rangers, so I think he'll do some
• 17:50
  Speaker 1: stuff like that.
• 17:51
Speaker 2: Yeah, I mean, even you have a Jakes McDonald's coming
• 17:53
Speaker 2: back every now and then for special Islander ceremonies. Maybe
• 17:56
Speaker 2: not Opening Night, but you know, Hall of Fame inductions,
• 18:00
Speaker 2: number of retirements. He still gets his way around for that.
• 18:02
Speaker 2: So it's entirely possible. And you know, going back to
• 18:06
Speaker 2: Roses video that he put out on the Mets Socials
• 18:08
Speaker 2: announcing that the twenty twenty six season would be his last,
• 18:11
Speaker 2: he said he would love nothing more than to be
• 18:13
Speaker 2: the mc on the steps of City Hall in October
• 18:17
Speaker 2: or November, because that's how the season goes now, welcoming
• 18:21
Speaker 2: the world champion Mets and considering that his first year
• 18:24
Speaker 2: with the team was nineteen eighty seven, aka the year
• 18:27
Speaker 2: that they were the defending world champs. Ye, I don't
• 18:30
Speaker 2: know about you, that'd be a pretty good way to
• 18:31
  Speaker 2: close things out.
• 18:32
Speaker 1: It would be fitting. And by the way, I'm going
• 18:34
Speaker 1: to dig the Mets here for a minute, it's forty
• 18:36
Speaker 1: degrees on Saturday, and you're giving out one of the
• 18:38
Speaker 1: best promotions of the season in March. Can they do
• 18:42
Speaker 1: more rings later in the year. I mean, is that
• 18:44
Speaker 1: a possibility or what?
• 18:45
Speaker 2: See? You would think so? And I was a little
• 18:47
Speaker 2: surprised that they'd choose game number two of the season
• 18:51
Speaker 2: to give out probably one of their better giveaways of
• 18:54
Speaker 2: the season. But I mean, I guess that's just the
• 18:56
Speaker 2: way the cookie crumbles sometimes. But granted, there's gonna be
• 18:59
Speaker 2: a lot better giveaways, at least in my opinion, later
• 19:03
Speaker 2: this season. I know they're giving away a Wan Soto
• 19:04
Speaker 2: forty thirty bobblehead later this year, a couple other things
• 19:08
Speaker 2: in the works. I know they still have yet to
• 19:10
Speaker 2: announce their promotion schedule, if I'm not mistaken, for July
• 19:14
Speaker 2: and really that second half of the season. They've really
• 19:16
Speaker 2: announced everything up until June, which is funny.
• 19:20
Speaker 1: When I was a kid, they had everything lined up.
• 19:22
Speaker 2: Yeah, they had everything was lined up well at advance.
• 19:26
Speaker 1: So but I think they like the surprise that they've
• 19:28
Speaker 1: learned that surprises are better. And then fireworks Fridays are back,
• 19:31
  Speaker 1: I believe.
• 19:31
Speaker 2: So it'll be Oh they are, but I guess. They
• 19:33
Speaker 2: also don't want to avoid a scenario where, say, I
• 19:37
Speaker 2: don't know, they giveaway Luis Garcia promotional item. Why they
• 19:40
Speaker 2: would don't ask, but they wouldn't want to announce this
• 19:44
Speaker 2: before the season. And the next thing, you know, they
• 19:47
Speaker 2: have a date set for August, like a Luis Garcia
• 19:51
  Speaker 2: and he's T shirt I don't know, and then they
• 19:54
Speaker 2: trade him or something like that, or.
• 19:56
Speaker 1: Bre baity thing that he gets traded. You know those times.
• 19:58
Speaker 2: Too, Yeah, because I mean the still very much have
• 20:00
Speaker 2: a logjam at infield and even some of their newcomers,
• 20:05
Speaker 2: they're still trying to make their adjustments. Accordingly Boba Schet
• 20:09
Speaker 2: going through a little bit of growing pains at third base,
• 20:11
Speaker 2: but also paying a bit of it what I like
• 20:14
Speaker 2: to call an adjustment tax to New York. Because it
• 20:17
Speaker 2: was game number three, Mets fans already calling for his benching,
• 20:20
Speaker 2: they're already booing him. But this is just the adjustment
• 20:24
Speaker 2: tax coming into play. It doesn't matter who you are,
• 20:28
Speaker 2: if you're a superstar coming into Queens, there's always some
• 20:31
Speaker 2: sort of an adjustment tax to be paid. And you
• 20:34
Speaker 2: saw this just last year with Won Soto outs. Yeah,
• 20:36
Speaker 2: I mean struggled the first two months of the season,
• 20:39
Speaker 2: Yankee fans calling him out, and right.
• 20:42
Speaker 1: Down to Smorial Day and all of a sudden, he's
• 20:44
Speaker 1: like going over again. I'm like, boy, this guy's still adjusting.
• 20:47
Speaker 1: And we were at Memorial.
• 20:48
Speaker 2: Day and I was saying that, yeah, I mean, it
• 20:50
Speaker 2: took him like two months to get adjusted to Queens
• 20:53
Speaker 2: And you know, it's natural, I guess. But compared to
• 20:58
Speaker 2: what you saw with Francisco Indoor and Carlos Beltron, how
• 21:02
Speaker 2: they got adjusted to Queen's in their times with the Mets,
• 21:05
Speaker 2: And I'd argue Sotos was pretty quick because from June
• 21:09
Speaker 2: on he was hitting like the Wan Soto that Mets
• 21:11
Speaker 2: fans were expecting. Meanwhile, Lindor Beltron, they had to wait
• 21:16
Speaker 2: until their second season to really get accustomed to the
• 21:20
Speaker 2: pressure of playing with the Mets.
• 21:22
Speaker 1: Three homer is a career for him, all right.
• 21:25
Speaker 2: So the title turn for Bashet eventually, we just don't
• 21:27
Speaker 2: know when that's gonna be. But really, all you can
• 21:30
Speaker 2: do is just have faith that maybe his bat will
• 21:32
Speaker 2: come around eventually, and that maybe he won't, maybe he
• 21:34
Speaker 2: won't be looking like the twenty twenty four version of himself,
• 21:37
Speaker 2: but more so the twenty twenty five version that they
• 21:39
Speaker 2: paid forty million dollars for.
• 21:41
Speaker 1: All right, and one thing the Yanks do do another
• 21:43
Speaker 1: sweep and twenty four we all know what happened. I
• 21:45
Speaker 1: thought that was a greaty sweep against the Ashes two
• 21:47
Speaker 1: years ago. Now last year was good with the Brewers,
• 21:50
Speaker 1: but of course we don't know how the season ended.
• 21:52
Speaker 1: Look on my Yankees thoughts here real quick, Ryan, they
• 21:58
Speaker 1: look better than I thought. They look like they'll be
• 22:02
Speaker 1: a gritty team and won't just be the home run ball.
• 22:04
Speaker 1: They didn't really hit a home run on game number
• 22:06
Speaker 1: one in the season. They actually hit only two or three,
• 22:09
Speaker 1: I know, judging them on Friday, but then again, they
• 22:12
Speaker 1: didn't hit a home run Saturday and they won. That's gritty.
• 22:15
Speaker 1: I want to see games where they can pitch well
• 22:18
Speaker 1: and why they can win without a homer. They need
• 22:20
Speaker 1: to do that this year.
• 22:21
Speaker 2: Yeah, you just want to see seasons from them that
• 22:23
Speaker 2: aren't just the same power hitting lineups on paper, that
• 22:27
Speaker 2: aren't hitting for power. And I believe I've said this
• 22:31
Speaker 2: to you, Alex, that the way to get back to
• 22:34
Speaker 2: championship legitimacy for these Yankees is just to re embrace
• 22:37
Speaker 2: the old methods that made the nineties and early two
• 22:39
Speaker 2: thousands team so great with your clutch pitching, contact oriented lineups.
• 22:44
Speaker 2: Here now, I'm not saying that Judge needs to be
• 22:46
Speaker 2: a three thirty hitter or anything like that by any means.
• 22:48
Speaker 2: Judge just needs to keep doing what he's doing, denning
• 22:50
Speaker 2: ambulances in the San Francisco outfield and just keep pitting
• 22:54
  Speaker 2: them out.
• 22:55
Speaker 1: But today's this weekend's a test. This series is a test.
• 22:57
Speaker 1: I know the Mariners, I know it seas it series
• 23:00
Speaker 1: number two Ryan, but they are a competitor, they are contender.
• 23:04
Speaker 1: The Mariners are the real deal. I want to see
• 23:06
Speaker 1: them win at least two in Seattle to start off
• 23:09
Speaker 1: on the right foot here.
• 23:10
Speaker 2: So no, very much. So now do you think that
• 23:13
Speaker 2: maybe we could see an Alcs rematch perhaps Yankees Mariners
• 23:17
Speaker 2: come October. I don't know how you really feel about that,
• 23:20
Speaker 2: but could that be possible? I know, if all goes well.
• 23:23
Speaker 1: I just want to say, twenty twenty six is an
• 23:25
Speaker 1: unfinished business year for the Yankees. You cannot tell me
• 23:29
Speaker 1: that that first game against Toronto was not. I feel
• 23:33
Speaker 1: like it was a bit of a fluke because I
• 23:34
Speaker 1: know Toronto was great and they they hung their banner
• 23:37
Speaker 1: this weekend, whatever, but that's unfinished business this year. I
• 23:41
Speaker 1: don't think we're going to see a team that makes
• 23:44
Speaker 1: only one run with bases loaded in the playoffs. I
• 23:46
Speaker 1: think they're gonna be better than that this year, I really do.
• 23:48
Speaker 1: But it feels like unfinished business for the Yankees this year.
• 23:50
Speaker 2: No, they'll definitely do better this year, I'm sure. Especially
• 23:53
Speaker 2: i'd love to see oh yeah, who wouldn't. But also
• 23:56
Speaker 2: with the pitching reinforcements that they're going to be getting
• 23:58
Speaker 2: back come the All Star break and even before that,
• 24:01
Speaker 2: I mean Cole Rodin, Clark Schmidt, they're all opening up
• 24:04
Speaker 2: the season injured. By the time they get back suddenly,
• 24:07
Speaker 2: that's arguably a rotation hearkening back to those nineties years now.
• 24:12
Speaker 1: Well, Warren I believe took Clark Schmith's number, which I
• 24:15
Speaker 1: found interesting. I think he's twenty nine now, so that's interesting.
• 24:18
Speaker 1: But uh, just a little side note there. But one
• 24:21
Speaker 1: last thing you saw it yourself Thursday afternoon, Carson Benge.
• 24:27
Speaker 1: For those who may not know this kid's story, why
• 24:29
Speaker 1: is he a feel good story? They called it a
• 24:31
Speaker 1: feel good home run, a great home run debut, But
• 24:33
Speaker 1: why what makes him a feel good story.
• 24:35
Speaker 2: Well, I think it really just has to do with
• 24:37
Speaker 2: the fact that people were questioning if he'd even be
• 24:40
Speaker 2: starting on opening Day in the first place. Now, this
• 24:42
Speaker 2: isn't to deny Carson Benge's status is one of the
• 24:45
Speaker 2: top prospects in the game, there's no doubt about that.
• 24:48
Speaker 2: But I don't think a lot of Mets fans are
• 24:50
Speaker 2: really expecting him to break onto the scene this quick,
• 24:53
Speaker 2: this fast. Because you also have to understand how Carson
• 24:56
Speaker 2: Benge's twenty twenty five campaign ended in Syracuse. He got
• 24:59
Speaker 2: called up to Triple A late in the season and
• 25:02
Speaker 2: he only hit like one seventy eight there or something
• 25:04
Speaker 2: like that. In fact, I was one of the people
• 25:06
Speaker 2: banging the drums for him to, you know, maybe start
• 25:09
Speaker 2: the season in Syracuse unless he hits the ball completely
• 25:12
Speaker 2: off the cover in spring training, which sure enough, that's
• 25:15
Speaker 2: exactly what he did. And the fact that Mike Talkman
• 25:18
Speaker 2: he got hurt in one of the last spring training games,
• 25:20
Speaker 2: it really more or less just opened up the door
• 25:22
Speaker 2: for Bench to come in make an immediate impact.
• 25:25
Speaker 1: I'm talking about the way I've always liked him.
• 25:28
Speaker 2: Yeah, he's somebody that I always wish would be able
• 25:30
Speaker 2: to get a consistent role there because he can hit,
• 25:33
Speaker 2: and he can hit well at that He just needs
• 25:35
Speaker 2: that consistent role to really establish his presence, I would say,
• 25:40
Speaker 2: as one of the more underrated outfield bats right now.
• 25:44
Speaker 2: But getting back to bench making an immediate impact now,
• 25:48
Speaker 2: I wasn't expecting that much off of Paul Skins here.
• 25:51
Speaker 2: I mean, striking out in your first at bat can
• 25:54
Speaker 2: fault him there, especially against Paul Skeens still less, never
• 25:57
Speaker 2: mind the fact that he didn't even last an inning,
• 25:59
Speaker 2: but also to go deep in your third at bat
• 26:03
Speaker 2: and to get the whole crowd loving you right there.
• 26:07
Speaker 1: The six sale to the fans, Yeah.
• 26:09
Speaker 2: The salute to the fans, getting the curtain call, and
• 26:11
Speaker 2: then coming back into right field after that half inning. Listen,
• 26:15
Speaker 2: I was sitting in three ZHO one. Everybody there was
• 26:17
Speaker 2: given bed a standing out. They were all channing his name,
• 26:19
Speaker 2: and he was acknowledging the guys. I love it channing
• 26:22
Speaker 2: his name. You just love to see that out there,
• 26:24
Speaker 2: because I mean, benj just single handedly deserved to make
• 26:29
Speaker 2: this team the way he was hitting the ball off
• 26:31
Speaker 2: and then his reaction finding out he made the team
• 26:33
Speaker 2: was just wholesome, raw. Everybody loved to see it. Now
• 26:38
Speaker 2: you just have to hope at this point that he
• 26:41
Speaker 2: doesn't turn out like the last Met to hit a
• 26:44
Speaker 2: homer on their first game in Opening Day cash Mats
• 26:47
Speaker 2: Sue was the last, of course, two thousand and four,
• 26:50
Speaker 2: but that one was I guess, slightly different circumstances, just
• 26:53
Speaker 2: for the fact that it was his first ever pitch
• 26:56
Speaker 2: in the big leagues that he saw, but everything else
• 26:58
Speaker 2: was just kind of downhill from there. So I'm hoping
• 27:00
Speaker 2: the same does not happen for Carson Bedch. But we
• 27:04
Speaker 2: have a lot of faith in him. Us Mets fans
• 27:06
Speaker 2: have a lot of faith and he very much could
• 27:09
Speaker 2: be the Pidalonzo replacement that these guys are looking for.
• 27:13
Speaker 1: All Right. Maybe I'm a a little eager to say
• 27:16
Speaker 1: this because I want to see the Pittsburgh back to
• 27:18
Speaker 1: you know, prominence a little bit, because there are a
• 27:21
Speaker 1: classic teams, they are a classic franchise. I feel like, though,
• 27:24
Speaker 1: if you can hold the Mets down as much as
• 27:26
Speaker 1: they did, I know Monday Thursday was a bit of
• 27:28
Speaker 1: a mess, but the rest of the series they actually
• 27:30
Speaker 1: tightened up their pitching. That's scary. I mean, if you
• 27:33
Speaker 1: could shut down a Soto Lindore team the way they
• 27:37
Speaker 1: did the last couple of days. Maybe they are going
• 27:40
Speaker 1: to have some turnaround here this year.
• 27:41
Speaker 2: And they were so close to doing that on Saturday too,
• 27:43
Speaker 2: and until Luis robert first homer as a met to
• 27:47
Speaker 2: walk off. What a way to introduce yourself to Queen's
• 27:50
Speaker 2: right there. But I don't really look at it as
• 27:54
Speaker 2: a huge win from the Mets per se. But it's
• 27:56
Speaker 2: more so just a bell out of some of the
• 27:58
Speaker 2: mistakes that I noticed from Carlos Mendoza, especially over the
• 28:01
Speaker 2: weekend as well. And I was jotting this down earlier
• 28:05
Speaker 2: thinking about what I want to say here in these
• 28:07
Speaker 2: Monday musings as far as what I would have done
• 28:10
Speaker 2: better if I were Carlos Mendoza, And really this is
• 28:14
Speaker 2: just a Saturday and a Sunday kind of thing, more
• 28:16
Speaker 2: so Sunday. But there still are a couple questionable decisions
• 28:20
Speaker 2: from Saturday either way. A lot of it, I feel
• 28:23
Speaker 2: like has to do with pitching Dicky Lovelady and clutch
• 28:26
Speaker 2: situations like he pitched in the eleventh gave up a
• 28:30
Speaker 2: run which didn't even matter in the end. With Robert's
• 28:33
Speaker 2: first walk off homer as a met but then a
• 28:37
Speaker 2: day later not even who's pitching to start the tenth,
• 28:40
Speaker 2: So I didn't really understand that whatsoever. Something else I
• 28:44
Speaker 2: also didn't understand was pinch hitting Jared Young in the
• 28:48
Speaker 2: ninth for Louis Terentz. Now I completely understand taking out
• 28:52
Speaker 2: Terrenz for the defensive replacement in Francisco Alvarez and making
• 28:57
Speaker 2: sure the Trens isn't spending ten whole innings behind the dish.
• 29:00
Speaker 2: I can get behind that, but surely you can do
• 29:03
Speaker 2: better as far as a pinch hitter goes than Jared Young,
• 29:06
Speaker 2: because if anything, two outs nobody on base, you need
• 29:11
Speaker 2: somebody to at least just get on base for that
• 29:14
Speaker 2: top of the order to perhaps do something here. Yeah,
• 29:18
Speaker 2: and then with the sweep, but then that just didn't
• 29:21
Speaker 2: happen here, Francisco Lindor send home. He thought he had
• 29:25
Speaker 2: the chance to score the tying ron and that double
• 29:27
Speaker 2: in the gap from Juan Soto, thought he had a
• 29:29
Speaker 2: chance to beat the throw, but it just didn't happen.
• 29:33
Speaker 2: I will credit the Pittsburgh defense a lot for just
• 29:36
Speaker 2: making the better plays in that moment right then and there,
• 29:39
Speaker 2: making the good throws to and they be a guy
• 29:41
  Speaker 2: like Lindor out.
• 29:42
Speaker 1: Ryan O'Hearn made his name, made his bones really in
• 29:45
Speaker 1: Baltimore ONEO Cruz. We all know how good a guy
• 29:49
  Speaker 1: he is.
• 29:49
Speaker 2: I mean, well, at least when he's wearing sun shades
• 29:51
  Speaker 2: in the outfield.
• 29:52
Speaker 1: Yeah, but I mean that's that's what that was Opening Day.
• 29:55
Speaker 1: I'm just saying the Pirates seem like they have a
• 29:57
Speaker 1: bit more stock this year than they have in.
• 29:58
Speaker 2: The sure and especially the way that Brandon he's been
• 30:00
Speaker 2: in the cover off the ball. See, I'm regarding him
• 30:03
Speaker 2: as a Met killer now. He's been that good against
• 30:06
Speaker 2: the Mets just in this one series alone. And I'm
• 30:08
Speaker 2: not looking forward to when they go to Pittsburgh and
• 30:11
  Speaker 2: they got a face bread a law again. I don't
• 30:13
Speaker 2: know what's gonna happen there, but.
• 30:14
Speaker 1: Well, Pegs, any road games you're looking at this.
• 30:17
Speaker 2: Year, well very much may be the case. There is
• 30:21
Speaker 2: one in particular that I am looking at, and it
• 30:23
Speaker 2: is when the Mets visit Philadelphia for the first time
• 30:27
Speaker 2: this season, mostly just because of the Boba sheet drama
• 30:31
Speaker 2: and all a lot of Mets, a lot of Phillies fans,
• 30:33
Speaker 2: they've been having that series circled on their calendars June
• 30:38
Speaker 2: eighteenth through the twenty first. Excuse me, and I know
• 30:43
Speaker 2: a lot of Philly fans are going to be booing
• 30:45
Speaker 2: Boba chev for not wanting to sign with them. I
• 30:48
Speaker 2: just don't get that personally, because look, at least with Soto,
• 30:54
Speaker 2: Yankees fans were justified in feeling anger against him because
• 31:00
Speaker 2: he at least played for the team. Right with Bobaschett,
• 31:04
Speaker 2: I'm sorry, when did he ever play an inning of
• 31:06
Speaker 2: baseball for the Philadelphia Phillies.
• 31:07
  Speaker 1: He never did.
• 31:08
Speaker 2: He never did, and they're still mad at him just
• 31:10
Speaker 2: because they didn't. He didn't want to choose a roster
• 31:13
Speaker 2: that's probably on the downhill.
• 31:15
Speaker 1: That would be like the Pirates fans being mad at
• 31:16
Speaker 1: Swarber for not picking them. But look, Schwarbert is a
• 31:19
Speaker 1: Philly guy, so I have a few.
• 31:21
Speaker 2: But also, where the Pirates really ever gonna pony up
• 31:24
Speaker 2: the money for Kyle Schwarber. I mean, before they signed
• 31:27
Speaker 2: Ryan O'Hearn to a two year deal, the last multi
• 31:29
Speaker 2: year deal they gave out to a free agent was
• 31:32
Speaker 2: Ivon Nova. Ivon Nova. Let's just let that sink in
• 31:36
  Speaker 2: your head.
• 31:37
Speaker 1: Well, Ryan, this's been great. I know you're gonna jump
• 31:39
Speaker 1: on Pag's perspective now and talk as well. So thanks
• 31:42
Speaker 1: for joining one like a blex Media today.
• 31:44
Speaker 2: Well, it's always a pleasure to be back Alex and
• 31:46
Speaker 2: thank you as always.
