- Lucas: Hey everyone, welcome back to Learn Amharic with Fexingo. This is episode 193, and I'm here with Luna. Luna: And I'm Luna! So excited to be here. What are we learning today? Lucas: We're going to add three new colors to your Amharic vocabulary: purple, orange, and grey. But first, a quick note. Let's start with purple. In Amharic, purple is ሐምራዊ. Say it with me: ሐምራዊ. Luna: ሐምራዊ. Lucas: Perfect. Orange is ብርቱካናማ. Repeat after me: ብርቱካናማ. Luna: ብርቱካናማ. That's a mouthful! But I like it. Lucas: You got it. And grey is ግራጫ. Try it: ግራጫ. Luna: ግራጫ. Easy one. Lucas: Now, let's use them in a question. How do you ask 'what color is this?' You already know ይህ ምን ነው? from episode 185. So we add ቀለም, which means color. So: ይህ ምን ቀለም ነው? Say it with me: ይህ ምን ቀለም ነው? Luna: ይህ ምን ቀለም ነው? Lucas: Great. And to answer, you say ይህ ነው. For example, ይህ ሐምራዊ ነው – this is purple. Try it with orange. Luna: ይህ ብርቱካናማ ነው. Lucas: Exactly. And what about grey? Say 'this is grey'. Luna: ይህ ግራጫ ነው. Lucas: Beautiful. Now let's do a little scene. Imagine you see a sunset with purple clouds, an orange sky, and grey mountains. Point to the clouds and ask me what color they are. Luna: Okay. ይህ ምን ቀለም ነው? pointing to clouds. Lucas: ይህ ሐምራዊ ነው. And the sky? Same question. Luna: ይህ ምን ቀለም ነው? pointing to sky. Lucas: ይህ ብርቱካናማ ነው. And the mountains? Luna: ይህ ግራጫ ነው. Lucas: Perfect. You just described a whole scene in Amharic! Let's review the colors one more time. Purple? Luna: ሐምራዊ. Lucas: Orange? Luna: ብርቱካናማ. Lucas: Grey? Luna: ግራጫ. Lucas: And the question 'what color is this?' Luna: ይህ ምን ቀለም ነው? Lucas: Awesome.
