- Lucas: Welcome back to Learn French with Fexingo! I'm Lucas. Luna: And I'm Luna. Episode 25! Can you believe it? Lucas: I know. It's flying by. And today I have a sweet topic for you. Luna: Ooh, I like sweet. What is it? Lucas: Fruits. Basic fruits in French. We've done food and drinks, but not individual fruits yet. Luna: Perfect. I love fruit. Let's start. Lucas: Okay, first up: apple. In French, une pomme. Luna: Une pomme. Lucas: Yes. Une pomme. Try it a bit slower. Luna: Une pomme. Lucas: Beautiful. So if you want to say 'I would like an apple', you can say: Je voudrais une pomme. Luna: Je voudrais une pomme. That's using 'je voudrais' from before, right? Lucas: Exactly. From episode 20 and 21. So you can combine. Je voudrais une pomme. Luna: Je voudrais une pomme. Lucas: Perfect. Next fruit: banana. Une banane. Luna: Une banane. That sounds almost the same as English. Lucas: It does. Une banane. Say it with me. Luna: Une banane. Lucas: Great. Now orange. Une orange. Luna: Une orange. Oh, that's similar too. Lucas: Right. Une orange. Easy. Now grapes. In French, du raisin. Luna: Du raisin. Wait, why 'du' and not 'une'? Lucas: Good question. Grapes are usually a mass noun in French, like 'some grapes'. So we say du raisin. But if you want one grape, you can say un raisin, but that's less common. Luna: So du raisin. Du raisin. Lucas: Perfect. Let's review all four. Lucas: Awesome. Now let's put them in a simple sentence. Say 'I would like an apple, please.' Lucas: Excellent. How about 'I would like a banana'? Luna: Je voudrais une banane. Lucas: Yes. And 'I would like some grapes'? Luna: Je voudrais du raisin. Lucas: Perfect. So now imagine you're at a market. You see apples, bananas, oranges, and grapes. How do you ask for an orange? Lucas: Excellent. Let's do a quick scene. I'm the vendor. You're the customer. I say 'Bonjour, vous désirez?' and you say...? Lucas: Parfait. Et voilà. Here you go. Luna: Merci. Lucas: De rien. See how natural that feels? You're already ordering fruit. Luna: I love it. Let's practice the words one more time. Lucas: Sure. Repeat after me: une pomme. Luna: Une pomme. Lucas: Une banane. Luna: Une banane. Lucas: Une orange. Luna: Une orange. Lucas: Du raisin. Luna: Du raisin. Lucas: You've got it. Now, a little trick: if you want to say 'I would like an apple and an orange', you say: Je voudrais une pomme et une orange. Lucas: Perfect. And if you want to say 'I would like some grapes and a banana'? Lucas: Exactly. You're a natural. Luna: Thanks. So listen, I'm going to a market this weekend. Can I use this? Lucas: Absolutely. Just remember to say bonjour first, then your request. And don't forget merci. Merci! Lucas: You're ready. And that wraps up today's episode. We learned une pomme, une banane, une orange, du raisin, and how to order them. Lucas: Yes. Practice these phrases, and next time you're at a French market, you'll be set. Luna: Thanks, Lucas. Merci à tous for listening. Lucas: This has been Learn French with Fexingo. Keep practicing, and we'll see you next time for another small step. Luna: Au revoir!
