- 0:00Speaker 1: Time. Let me get Elena going here and we can
- 0:02Speaker 1: get her theme music up and we can talk about
- 0:05Speaker 1: the wellness check. Yeah, let's get Elena going here? Are Lena?
- 0:12Speaker 1: Good morning Elena.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Hello.
- 0:15Speaker 1: This is perfect for me. It says how to stop
- 0:19Speaker 1: depending on motivation to reach your goals I have, I
- 0:24Speaker 1: have no Thanks Gina, thanks for completing my joke for
- 0:28Speaker 1: me again. I always like it when you do that
- 0:31Speaker 1: because I have no Bill has no motivation. Thanks Gina.
- 0:37Speaker 1: You know what if I probably wouldn't be able to
- 0:39Speaker 1: get to a joke if for you, I know, I'm
- 0:41Speaker 1: just here to help. So what do you mean by
- 0:46Speaker 1: how to stop depending on motivation? This is Elena Wood
- 0:49Speaker 1: was from Nightingale College.
- 0:52Speaker 2: Yeah, so motivation is one of these really powerful things
- 0:57Speaker 2: that comes up and it's like it's like a fire work.
- 1:00Speaker 2: It's really exciting, and it only lasts for a couple
- 1:03Speaker 2: of seconds, and then after that you've got real life
- 1:06Speaker 2: that you need to deal with. So you have all
- 1:09Speaker 2: of this excited motivation. You know, I'm gonna get up
- 1:12Speaker 2: extra early, I'm going to go to the gym, I'm
- 1:14Speaker 2: gonna eat broccoli, I'm gonna drink water, and then it's
- 1:18Speaker 2: four am and your alarm is going off and you
- 1:21Speaker 2: remember that you don't like broccoli and water is boring.
- 1:25Speaker 2: So we need to kind of build our life in
- 1:29Speaker 2: a way that we're not dependent on this big flash
- 1:34Speaker 2: of energy because it only comes up every once in
- 1:37Speaker 2: a while.
- 1:37Speaker 1: Okay, so what do you do?
- 1:40Speaker 2: First of all, have a deeper meaning, So understand the
- 1:44Speaker 2: why behind your goals. You know, maybe it's that you
- 1:47Speaker 2: want to spend time with your family. Maybe it's that
- 1:51Speaker 2: you want to go on a gorgeous hike and whatever
- 1:54Speaker 2: that is. Just picture it in your mind and call
- 1:57Speaker 2: on that at four am when you don't want to
- 1:59Speaker 2: get out of to go to the gym.
- 2:01Speaker 1: Okay, all right, we get up and have broccoli for breakfast.
- 2:07Speaker 1: Nobody does that. I'd love to.
- 2:10Speaker 3: I like now that your next Your next one says,
- 2:14Speaker 3: get comfortable with discomfort. How do I do that?
- 2:17Speaker 1: Yes?
- 2:18Speaker 2: Yes, So anytime that we're trying to make change, we're
- 2:22Speaker 2: going to feel a little bit uncomfortable because it's new
- 2:25Speaker 2: and it's different, and so we just need to help ourselves.
- 2:29Speaker 2: First of all, understand that meaning behind what our goal
- 2:33Speaker 2: is so that we can lean into that discomfort a
- 2:37Speaker 2: little bit. The word passion comes from Latin meaning to
- 2:42Speaker 2: suffer and endure. So if we can just remind ourselves,
- 2:46Speaker 2: especially about the endurance part, right, So endure through that discomfort.
- 2:52Speaker 1: Yeah, and making change is hard anymore. Most people just
- 2:55Speaker 1: use credit cards.
- 2:56Speaker 2: No, that's very true.
- 2:59Speaker 1: So I used to like those little point Remember they
- 3:03Speaker 1: had those little machines on your belt that would dispense
- 3:06Speaker 1: nickels and dimes and quarters, those little metal I always
- 3:10Speaker 1: wanted to fun. Yeah, what's the next one?
- 3:15Speaker 2: Next is to create systems and environments that support your goals.
- 3:20Speaker 2: And this is really the biggest hack, we'll say for
- 3:25Speaker 2: reaching your goals. If you want to get up in
- 3:27Speaker 2: the morning and work out, put your workout clothes right
- 3:30Speaker 2: next to the bed, so they're right there. You have
- 3:32Speaker 2: to literally step over.
- 3:34Speaker 1: Them, sleep in them. Why not sleep in them?
- 3:38Speaker 2: I have worked with people who do that absolutely. Yeah,
- 3:43Speaker 2: leave your fruit on the counter, carry your water bottle
- 3:46Speaker 2: with you. Whatever it is that you're trying to succeed at.
- 3:49Speaker 2: Create an environment that really really supports that.
- 3:52Speaker 3: At that fruit on the counter thing we buy like
- 3:55Speaker 3: cutis and leave them in a bowl because it's so
- 3:58Speaker 3: much easier just to grab one of those for a
- 4:00Speaker 3: snack than walking over to the pantry and getting.
- 4:03Speaker 1: You know what I do. I put broccoli in my pockets.
- 4:05Speaker 2: Soon it's perfect. Yeah, I bet you smell great.
- 4:12Speaker 1: What's next?
- 4:15Speaker 2: Just remind yourself that feelings don't last forever. If you're
- 4:18Speaker 2: feeling overwhelmed or stressed or sad, just remember that these
- 4:24Speaker 2: feelings do not define you. They are just this one moment.
- 4:29Speaker 2: Science has shown that feelings actually really only last for
- 4:32Speaker 2: about ninety seconds and the remainder is just our brain
- 4:36Speaker 2: kind of mulling over them and over them and over them.
- 4:40Speaker 2: So just let yourself understand it is just a moment.
- 4:44Speaker 2: It's just one little blip in the big timeline.
- 4:47Speaker 1: Yeah. And then this is a good one, this final one. Here,
- 4:52Speaker 1: is it adopting a growth mindset? Yes?
- 4:56Speaker 2: Absolutely, And I really love to use the word yes,
- 5:00Speaker 2: so you can say I don't have the skills to
- 5:04Speaker 2: do this yet, I don't have enough energy yet, And
- 5:10Speaker 2: that just helps remind us that we can work, and
- 5:12Speaker 2: we can grow, and we can develop, and just over
- 5:15Speaker 2: time it will get easier and will get better.
- 5:17Speaker 1: I haven't done all of the things I need to
- 5:20Speaker 1: do to qualify for sainthood yet.
- 5:23Speaker 2: Ye, yet exactly exactly. I love that.
- 5:27Speaker 1: I will, I will. It's very close, very close. Yes,
- 5:33Speaker 1: these are this is a good one. I like these are.
- 5:37Speaker 1: It's sort of it lets you off the hook, but
- 5:40Speaker 1: not really.
- 5:43Speaker 2: It's just a reminder to be kind and gentle with yourself.
- 5:48Speaker 1: Thank you. More of that, Elena, I like it, Elena.
- 5:50Speaker 1: Would You can find out more of the about this
