- 1:00SPEAKER_08: No, we did not take the time off to go uh run away for a week as much as I would have liked to.
- 1:06SPEAKER_08: I'm exhausted.
- 1:07SPEAKER_08: It's been a long weekend, but um, you know, I'm I I just I'm dedicated to the grind.
- 1:12SPEAKER_08: If I got away from the grind for too long, dude, I I don't know what I would have done because the grind don't stop.
- 1:17SPEAKER_08: I keep on grinding.
- 1:18SPEAKER_08: Hashtag rip grandma.
- 1:21SPEAKER_04: Hashtag rip grandma.
- 1:23SPEAKER_04: You've fully committed to your wife.
- 1:25SPEAKER_04: Uh congratulations.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: Thank you.
- 1:27SPEAKER_04: It was a great weekend.
- 1:28SPEAKER_04: It was a great party.
- 1:29SPEAKER_08: Am I am I a what's what star recruit am I out of five?
- 1:33SPEAKER_08: Zero.
- 1:34SPEAKER_08: I'm uh oh, I'm like, am I like a diamond in the in the rough?
- 1:38SPEAKER_08: Am I gym?
- 1:39SPEAKER_04: No, you're not a Calvin Simpson hunt that's unranked and and then eventually gets up to like a four-star.
- 1:45SPEAKER_04: No, you're just zero stars.
- 1:48SPEAKER_08: Not oh fair.
- 1:49SPEAKER_08: All right.
- 1:50SPEAKER_08: I this is this is this 24-7 or rivals.
- 1:53SPEAKER_04: Uh 24-7 composite, so it's legit.
- 1:56SPEAKER_04: You suck.
- 1:57SPEAKER_04: This is uh very reliable, very reliable.
- 2:00SPEAKER_04: No, you don't want to hear any more about this.
- 2:02SPEAKER_04: Uh Tristan's married, woo-hoo, fantastic.
- 2:06SPEAKER_04: We're all exhausted because we drank too much and had a great time.
- 2:10SPEAKER_04: Uh, but another great thing that happened this weekend, besides you know, you getting married, Texas Tech Football is one and oh, and you know what this means when Texas Tech Football wins a game here on the Talk and Tech Podcast, correct?
- 2:27SPEAKER_08: Oh, yes, that means you have to uh play the song.
- 2:31SPEAKER_04: We are playing the song.
- 2:34SPEAKER_08: Please play the song.
- 2:36SPEAKER_05: Red Raider coming at you, riding through the night with a furry OS Texas win.
- 2:46SPEAKER_05: What a beautiful time.
- 2:48SPEAKER_05: The Texas and Red Raider is riding right again.
- 2:54SPEAKER_04: Red Raider coming at you, riding through the night.
- 2:59SPEAKER_08: One and oh, right where we want to be, Don.
- 3:03SPEAKER_04: One and oh, one and oh, right where we want to be.
- 3:07SPEAKER_04: It's a beautiful feeling.
- 3:08SPEAKER_04: Um, yes, I know it's Murray State.
- 3:11SPEAKER_04: We need to we need to start this off by saying this.
- 3:14SPEAKER_04: Murray State is not a great football team, but we have struggled with not so great football teams the past two years in the non-conference.
- 3:23SPEAKER_04: And to see the Red Raiders utterly dominate in 63 to 10 fashion uh was a lovely sight to see.
- 3:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, we didn't get to see it live, but we got to watch the whole game uh meme multiple times on the ESPN Plus app.
- 3:39SPEAKER_04: Um, and uh just uh just awesome.
- 3:41SPEAKER_04: It's awesome to see your team kick ass.
- 3:43SPEAKER_08: And absolute throttling.
- 3:45SPEAKER_08: This is something we've been missing, you know.
- 3:47SPEAKER_08: Uh, it's I was trying to think when was the last time we just utterly crushed our FCS opponent because the past couple years that have been tremendous, um, we've we have barely escaped our FCS opponents, and arguably should have lost one of them.
- 4:03SPEAKER_08: So it's just it's nice to see us get past the game that's supposed to be a tune-up game.
- 4:08SPEAKER_08: Um, even though if it was the uh the Alabama of Murray, Kentucky, it's we still overcame the challenge and finally did what we were supposed to.
- 4:16SPEAKER_08: It's been a few years since this happened.
- 4:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, we we go into this preview saying, Yes, it's the FCS game, we're gonna kill them.
- 4:23SPEAKER_04: This is and then the last two years it didn't happen, and we were very disappointed, and it was kind of a uh look into how the rest of the season was gonna go.
- 4:31SPEAKER_04: A foreshadowing, if you will.
- 4:33SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah.
- 4:34SPEAKER_04: So this hopefully is a foreshadow of how this season's gonna go.
- 4:38SPEAKER_04: Um, like I said, Red Raiders win 63 to 10.
- 4:42SPEAKER_04: Um, I I guess before we talk about all the good stuff, we do have to mention uh Tyler Shuck, um, who went out late in the first quarter, um, or actually went out at the quarter break between the first and second quarter.
- 4:57SPEAKER_04: Um, it looks like it's gonna be three to six weeks for him, uh, according to what Joey McGuire has said.
- 5:02SPEAKER_04: Um, kind of messed up that same side, the collarbone on the same side um that he did last season that that kicked him out of all of last season.
- 5:13SPEAKER_04: Um he's going into further evaluation on Wednesday, uh, and then they'll know kind of whether he needs surgery or not.
- 5:20SPEAKER_04: So that's going to kind of determine whether it's three weeks or six weeks.
- 5:23SPEAKER_04: Um, so that's just your update on Tyler Shuck.
- 5:26SPEAKER_04: Everybody saw it, everybody hated it.
- 5:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, it sucks for the guy because he, you know, he worked so hard, he won the job fair and square, and then you freaking get hurt the first quarter of the season, uh, on the same type of injuries last year, and it just sucks to see.
- 5:40SPEAKER_08: Yeah, it just is kind of heartbreaking, you know.
- 5:42SPEAKER_08: It's this has plagued this guy his whole playing career.
- 5:45SPEAKER_08: That is just injuries.
- 5:46SPEAKER_08: I've gotten him over and over again, and it just sucks watching injuries hinder a great player, and it just seems like if uh once there's like a curse on a guy, that curse remains.
- 5:56SPEAKER_08: Like they can't get past injuries.
- 5:58SPEAKER_08: It's just it's weird how durability is actually a factor in a guy because it's not like they can control this, it's not like something like they can actually really cover in the offseason.
- 6:08SPEAKER_08: Yes, you can work out and build up those resistances in your muscles, but you can't there's really nothing you can truly do to absolutely prevent this from happening, so it's just not fair you feel for the guy because you know he even has NFL potential, so it just it sucks.
- 6:20SPEAKER_08: Even again, he was lighting up the first quarter, making smart plays, and to see him go down like this just it's so stupid.
- 6:27SPEAKER_08: It sucks for him, you know.
- 6:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's just the game of football, man.
- 6:30SPEAKER_04: It's uh it's it's you know, it's physical and it's violent at times, and guys get hurt.
- 6:37SPEAKER_04: Uh, this this wasn't really a play that anybody should have really done anything different either.
- 6:42SPEAKER_04: You know, you you come across stupid injuries where guys aren't smart with it, um, you know, they're not really paying attention to something and they tweaked their foot or whatever.
- 6:52SPEAKER_04: This was just he got tackled and he friggin' landed wrong, and the guy landed on him in in the exact same spot that he got hurt last year.
- 6:59SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, some have said, Hey, maybe don't run a quarterback draw.
- 7:03SPEAKER_04: Well, he's a he's a running quarterback, man.
- 7:05SPEAKER_04: It's the same thing with Donovan Smith.
- 7:07SPEAKER_04: You don't shy away from that type of stuff.
- 7:09SPEAKER_04: It's football, it's first game of the year.
- 7:11SPEAKER_04: You're gonna run those plays.
- 7:12SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, some some have said, hey, maybe he should have slid earlier, maybe you should have tried to go out of bounds.
- 7:18SPEAKER_04: And this is just football.
- 7:20SPEAKER_04: I mean, yeah, everybody looking back could have done something a little different to change things, but um, you know, obviously nothing dirty or anything like that went on.
- 7:29SPEAKER_04: It was just a freak injury, and it sucks.
- 7:31SPEAKER_08: Perfectly said, man.
- 7:33SPEAKER_08: It's it it's not you can't play halfway, you can't be scared of the guy getting hurt, or else you're just not gonna play to your full potential.
- 7:40SPEAKER_08: You're not gonna win.
- 7:40SPEAKER_08: You gotta play to the maximum at all times, especially in a position like quarterback.
- 7:45SPEAKER_08: What are you gonna do?
- 7:45SPEAKER_08: Have the guy be laxadaisical uh at quarterback?
- 7:48SPEAKER_08: No, thanks.
- 7:49SPEAKER_08: I mean, he he did what he had to do, and just unfortunately, it's it just didn't come out the way he wanted it to.
- 7:53SPEAKER_08: Hopefully, this is a quick injury back in.
- 7:57SPEAKER_08: Um, because this because potentially his last year at Texas Tech.
- 8:01SPEAKER_08: I mean, he he probably does have an extra year of eligibility, though, right?
- 8:04SPEAKER_04: Yeah, he does.
- 8:06SPEAKER_08: Yeah, he does.
- 8:07SPEAKER_04: I just don't know what that whole situation, how that's gonna unfold.
- 8:11SPEAKER_04: Because, you know, like we mentioned all offseason into the season preview, everything like that.
- 8:15SPEAKER_04: We have three really capable quarterbacks, and that's the good part about you know, the silver linings, I should say, about Tyler Shuck getting hurt is that we have two very capable, capable guys behind him that can lead the way.
- 8:27SPEAKER_04: And we saw Donovan Smith step in immediately and play unbelievable.
- 8:32SPEAKER_04: He's 14 to 16, 221 yards, and four touchdowns.
- 8:36SPEAKER_04: His first two throws were touchdown passes.
- 8:38SPEAKER_04: I mean, he looked he looked like he did in the Mississippi State game.
- 8:41SPEAKER_04: And yes, this is a not a great opponent to go off of in Murray State, but um, you just love to see Donovan step in there immediately after, you know, not winning the job in the offseason.
- 8:53SPEAKER_04: Guys can hang your head, guys can get discouraged.
- 8:55SPEAKER_04: He just came in immediately um and and played great.
- 8:58SPEAKER_04: And uh for that, I'm I'm thankful.
- 9:01SPEAKER_04: I've been on the Donovan Smith hype train from the from the beginning, you know, in the offseason.
- 9:06SPEAKER_04: Um, and and I'm it's his time, it's his moment now, it's his team to run, at least for the next two or three games.
- 9:13SPEAKER_04: Um, and and I I think we've got a very capable guy at the helm.
- 9:17SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean, what I saw whenever he he stepped out onto the field and immediately balling out was the guy that narrow narrowly missed the starting job.
- 9:24SPEAKER_08: Like just it was probably just came down to experience in the end between Tyler Shuck and Donovan Smith.
- 9:30SPEAKER_08: And that's what I've been saying this whole time is that it's just Tyler, what Tyler Shuck has on the other guys is just straight up playing time to develop that mental IQ and decision-making factor that the other guys just won't have.
- 9:40SPEAKER_08: Um, but Donovan looked like he didn't skip a beat.
- 9:42SPEAKER_08: Like he's like you said, looked like he was eviscerating uh Mississippi State, and he always seems like he's has his leadership role on the team, you know, watching the brand, he's always talking to the camera, always talking to the team.
- 9:52SPEAKER_08: And obviously, they you know it's it's a great position for him to be in now to take that uh take that helm, like you said.
- 9:59SPEAKER_08: And I know he said this is his team for the next couple games, but dude, if we go in and rattle these next two, three wins off, you keep him in.
- 10:06SPEAKER_08: That's how this goes.
- 10:07SPEAKER_08: You you keep on playing Donovan Smith until it doesn't work anymore because we're gonna we we're running into two ranked games and then UT.
- 10:15SPEAKER_08: So it's these are huge games coming up.
- 10:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's a it's obviously a huge opportunity for him, and you know, God forbid he goes down.
- 10:23SPEAKER_04: It's a it's an opportunity for Baron Morton.
- 10:25SPEAKER_04: So uh, you know, it's a next man up kind of mentality that's just football.
- 10:29SPEAKER_04: Um, every coach in the world will tell you that, but um, man, he was accurate this game.
- 10:34SPEAKER_04: I mean, he had a few hiccups, but to be 14 of 16, uh, you know, throw four touchdown passes, no interceptions.
- 10:40SPEAKER_04: I mean, he was just about everything you wanted out of Donovan Smith, you got to see.
- 10:45SPEAKER_04: Um, and and he didn't really run a lot, he didn't have to because we were up by so much.
- 10:50SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, we all saw what happened to Tyler Shuck earlier in the game.
- 10:53SPEAKER_04: So I'm sure Kitley was a little more um, you know, passive on some quarterback runs there.
- 10:58SPEAKER_04: But um, man, he was awesome.
- 11:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 11:01SPEAKER_08: And it looked so I'm glad he brought up Kitley.
- 11:04SPEAKER_08: What did we think of uh his game one uh play calling?
- 11:08SPEAKER_04: You scored 63 points.
- 11:09SPEAKER_04: I think he did pretty good.
- 11:11SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I agree.
- 11:12SPEAKER_04: You know, I think you went your first seven drives, you scored a touchdown on every drive.
- 11:16SPEAKER_04: Um it was awesome from the beginning from the first flea flicker play in the in your own end zone.
- 11:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, out uh shuck to uh Jeran Bradley for I don't know, 49 yards or whatever.
- 11:29SPEAKER_04: Uh and then touchdown two plays later.
- 11:32SPEAKER_04: I mean, you really saw what Zach Gitley can bring to an offense.
- 11:36SPEAKER_04: And uh and again, it's hard to judge really because you're playing Murray State.
- 11:41SPEAKER_04: I think we're gonna really, really see what happens against a better defense like Houston and NC State coming up in the next two.
- 11:47SPEAKER_04: But um, yeah, I mean, he did exactly what we wanted him to do.
- 11:51SPEAKER_04: Uh, he did what we were advertised with Zach Gitley.
- 11:54SPEAKER_08: Man, it felt so good to watch us take shots downfield.
- 11:58SPEAKER_08: I just I feel like we've been missing that.
- 12:00SPEAKER_08: Just some gutsy throws to get the ball moving uh up the line.
- 12:05SPEAKER_08: And it just it was just well efficient this whole time.
- 12:08SPEAKER_08: No mistakes were made up from the quarterbacks, and man, it was perfect.
- 12:12SPEAKER_08: I I love what I saw, I love the excitement that Zach Kidley has has brought to this offense.
- 12:16SPEAKER_08: And I'm like, I've said this over and over again.
- 12:18SPEAKER_08: I think we got the crown jewel of the uh offensive coordinators in the offseason, and I think it's it's only getting better from here, you know, as as he keeps uh developing his playbook as we get further into the season with working with what he has.
- 12:30SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 12:31SPEAKER_04: And and what I was most, I think most pleased with, besides Donovan Smith's play and Kitley's play calling and everything like that.
- 12:39SPEAKER_04: Uh this was my first optimism in in the last episode going into the year was uh the the wideouts, the outside receivers, uh not very experienced when you look at the grand scheme.
- 12:51SPEAKER_04: Loick Fungi's been injured.
- 12:53SPEAKER_04: Uh, he hasn't had a lot of reps these last couple seasons.
- 12:55SPEAKER_04: He's going into his junior season here at tech.
- 12:58SPEAKER_04: And uh Duran Bradley coming into his uh red shirt freshman year, played in a few games last season, but uh both of those guys were awesome.
- 13:07SPEAKER_04: Fungi, four of four catches, 110 yards, two touchdowns.
- 13:11SPEAKER_04: Bradley, six catches, 108 yards, and two touchdowns.
- 13:14SPEAKER_04: Um, and they showed how dominant they can be.
- 13:18SPEAKER_04: We know their intangibles are there, they're both six foot four and six foot five, they're massive humans, they have great, uh, just a great look at being an awesome wide receiver for the future.
- 13:29SPEAKER_04: And uh they stepped up big time.
- 13:31SPEAKER_08: Yeah, absolutely, man.
- 13:32SPEAKER_08: I it just shows that that this is a position we never have to worry about at tech.
- 13:36SPEAKER_08: And it's good to see these guys step up, you know, they're the more veteran guys of the bunch, and so it's good to see them build that role that was needed.
- 13:43SPEAKER_08: So again, man, it was awesome watching that connection between the quarterbacks and the receivers.
- 13:48SPEAKER_08: It's something that uh it just hasn't been quite there these past couple seasons with uh with a a more sluggish offense.
- 13:57SPEAKER_08: Um, but dude, it it felt so good to see if it's appropriate to say, vintage tech in this game when it comes to offense.
- 14:05SPEAKER_04: Yeah, and and you could tell that he still has so much more up his sleeve.
- 14:10SPEAKER_04: He didn't get Miles Price involved hardly at all in this game.
- 14:13SPEAKER_04: I think one drive, he had maybe two cat two of his four catches for the game.
- 14:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, and and that that guy's such a weapon for you.
- 14:20SPEAKER_04: So I expect Miles Price to get a little more involved uh as we play tougher opponents because he's just such a weapon uh for you.
- 14:28SPEAKER_04: And you know, you're just gonna have better cornerbacks on these other guys on the outside.
- 14:31SPEAKER_04: But uh 12 receivers caught a pass over 10 yards for Texas Tech in this game.
- 14:36SPEAKER_04: Um, I mean, that just says it.
- 14:38SPEAKER_04: You spread the ball around, you get a bunch of different guys involved, uh, and that's what you need to do against an FCS opponent in your first game of the year.
- 14:44SPEAKER_08: No, absolutely, man.
- 14:46SPEAKER_08: It wasn't just the receivers either.
- 14:47SPEAKER_08: It was we we so Roderick was catching balls.
- 14:49SPEAKER_08: We also had like every tight end grab one as well.
- 14:53SPEAKER_08: So it's good to see that kind of you know reaffirm what we were assuming before that Kaylee's gonna use his weapons and everyone's gonna get the ball.
- 15:01SPEAKER_08: It's not gonna be a one or two-man show this whole season.
- 15:04SPEAKER_08: Um, it's it's gonna be creative and generous the whole time.
- 15:09SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 15:10SPEAKER_04: And everybody, not everybody, certain people were concerned.
- 15:14SPEAKER_04: Is that Kelly going to use running backs?
- 15:16SPEAKER_04: You know, he hasn't had to use running backs at or he didn't at Houston Baptist and at Western Kentucky.
- 15:20SPEAKER_04: Uh Taj Brooks, three touchdowns on six carries this game.
- 15:24SPEAKER_04: Uh Sir Roderick Thompson uh was all I think he had 50 yards himself, and then that receiving touchdown, like you mentioned, um, the he used running backs and they're too good not to use.
- 15:34SPEAKER_04: So uh it was really nice to see Brooks go out there and just six really good runs, really tough runs that just he just showed how good he is.
- 15:42SPEAKER_04: I'm excited for Tosh Brooks, man.
- 15:44SPEAKER_08: Dude, this this running back room is so stacked.
- 15:47SPEAKER_08: The the the tanda between Brooks and Thompson is ridiculous.
- 15:51SPEAKER_08: I mean, we got to use these guys because they were really bunching in some plays this game, and golly, was it so good to see because it's just you know, we we're Red Raider fans, we're not really used to the ground game being so strong.
- 16:02SPEAKER_08: We're just like like you're saying, uh, it was more we were more used to the Western Kentucky flavor of last year, where the balls aired out for the majority of the time um in vintage tech.
- 16:11SPEAKER_08: But it's good to see us use these guys because they're they got the ability to do it, and they it was proven against Maure State.
- 16:18SPEAKER_08: Obviously, you know, tougher teams will have tougher lines to get through, but dude, it these guys are ballers, they're gonna make it work.
- 16:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 16:26SPEAKER_04: And um, the offensive line was a nice surprise.
- 16:29SPEAKER_04: Uh, they played better than what I thought they were gonna do.
- 16:32SPEAKER_04: Um, Joey McGuire was very complimentary of Dennis Wilburn, the center who won the job in the offseason over Cade Briggs.
- 16:40SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, Landon Peterson was kind of a surprise guy at right guard there.
- 16:45SPEAKER_04: Um, and then Caleb Rogers, West and Wright, those are guys that have been on your team now for a while.
- 16:49SPEAKER_04: Monroe Mills is the Oklahoma State transfer.
- 16:52SPEAKER_04: That's your line right there.
- 16:53SPEAKER_04: And they look pretty good, and especially in the past.
- 16:56SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, uh Joey came out and said that uh Cole Spencer, the uh lineman from Western Kentucky, is going to be out for the year with this back injury, and that's a guy we were all really excited about because he was coming from Kitley's system and everything.
- 17:10SPEAKER_04: And we just kind of penciled him in as one of the starters, and you no longer have that option now because he is going to be out for the year with this injury.
- 17:18SPEAKER_04: And uh, I think I thought these guys stepped up and played really well.
- 17:21SPEAKER_08: No, absolutely, man.
- 17:22SPEAKER_08: I think they bought the the quarterback a lot of time um and really made it easy for our offense to work.
- 17:28SPEAKER_08: It's it's been something that's also been missing to from the team this lately.
- 17:31SPEAKER_08: You know, most of the time we've been seeing the the quarterbacks having to run for their lives, but dude, it's it's it was great to see just a solid line.
- 17:37SPEAKER_08: You know, I really like what Hambi's bringing to the team.
- 17:39SPEAKER_08: He's kind of bringing the tenacity to the line that I just haven't seen before, that uh Coach Farmer just frankly didn't have.
- 17:47SPEAKER_08: So I just like seeing the fire and the chemistry between Hambi and Kitley's clear, they have a lot of trust in each other to make things happen.
- 17:53SPEAKER_08: So I'm really excited to see what can be made off the back of backs of those guys coming coming forward.
- 17:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 18:00SPEAKER_04: Defense played well.
- 18:01SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, there was there was pressure all night on Murray State.
- 18:05SPEAKER_04: There really was.
- 18:06SPEAKER_04: Whether it was Bradford or Hutchings or uh Blitty or Tyree or Krishan, there were uh all we had four sacks in this game, uh, you know, alone.
- 18:16SPEAKER_04: Uh Blitty had two of them.
- 18:17SPEAKER_04: Bradford had that crazy one at the beginning where he just absolutely ate up the defender uh or the uh offensive lineman.
- 18:24SPEAKER_04: And then Tyree was in a bunch of plays, and I mean he's gonna be doing that all year.
- 18:28SPEAKER_04: Um that was awesome.
- 18:30SPEAKER_04: That was really cool to see because we need constant pressure on these quarterbacks.
- 18:34SPEAKER_04: Um, and we have not, we've struggled with that last season, and we've had to rely on guys in the secondary to kind of hold down the fort.
- 18:42SPEAKER_04: And if you're relying on secondary here at Texas Tech, it's it's not great.
- 18:46SPEAKER_04: So um I thought the the pass rush was awesome.
- 18:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, but secondary, secondary was a little disappointing.
- 18:53SPEAKER_04: Not gonna lie to you.
- 18:55SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you're absolutely right, man.
- 18:57SPEAKER_08: Uh, we were definitely getting to the quarterback in past the line there for the but you know, we Maury State wasn't able able to do much, but the only time they got to the position to score was off the backs of big plays, like you were saying, some big tosses from the quarterback to the receivers to really put them into the red zone.
- 19:13SPEAKER_08: And you know, that's on the DBs, you know, once once that thing gets launched, you know, it's up to them to to make sure that doesn't result in any yardage.
- 19:20SPEAKER_08: And unfortunately it did, and it's on I'm with you, man.
- 19:22SPEAKER_08: Uh, up front was great, but in the back, a little it needs some adjustments for sure.
- 19:28SPEAKER_08: I mean, Murray State was still wasn't able to do much, but you know, against better teams, if they if they if they're able to exploit the backfield like that, it's gonna be tough.
- 19:36SPEAKER_08: This this league is full of good quarterbacks and receivers, yeah.
- 19:39SPEAKER_04: And you're like, well, you know, you didn't allow a first down in the whole second half against Murray State.
- 19:44SPEAKER_04: Well, Murray State had to put in their second-string freshman quarterback who looked like he had no business being out there on the football field, and uh that's why we did all that.
- 19:54SPEAKER_04: Um, but there were big plays.
- 19:57SPEAKER_04: Uh both uh uh Fry, Rabbit, Ray Shot all allowed some big plays this game.
- 20:02SPEAKER_04: Um, and and I mean it just it wasn't great to see.
- 20:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, yes, they only scored 10 points.
- 20:09SPEAKER_04: It's you know, uh, we're gonna fix things.
- 20:11SPEAKER_04: It's the first game of the year.
- 20:12SPEAKER_04: All that can be true, but you can tell there's clearly some work to be done in the secondary.
- 20:17SPEAKER_04: And I hope these guys figure it out pretty quick because you got a you got a really elite receiver coming against Houston in Tank Dell, and we're gonna have to figure that guy out because he is an absolute nightmare to deal with.
- 20:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, let's let's let's get into the the Houston game here in a second.
- 20:32SPEAKER_08: Um, but all in all, man, how can you be up we be upset with the way this game went in comparison?
- 20:38SPEAKER_08: I mean, flat out just looking at it, it's awesome, but in comparison to the past years, you know, what we're looking for is improvement this year more than anything, and to see us just be it look like a completely different team against vastly inferior competition is refreshing to see.
- 20:52SPEAKER_08: You know, we'd absolutely by no means played down to our competition like we appeared to be doing for the past few seasons, and it just feels so good to dominate and control.
- 21:00SPEAKER_08: It really did.
- 21:00SPEAKER_08: It was like a it was my obviously, Joey was it was his wedding gift to me, and I really appreciate that, Mr.
- 21:05SPEAKER_08: McGuire.
- 21:06SPEAKER_08: Uh Coach McGuire.
- 21:07SPEAKER_08: Uh, so a all in all good outing from our our our new uh Captain O Captain.
- 21:14SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 21:16SPEAKER_04: I I mean what more can you ask for?
- 21:18SPEAKER_04: But it's a 63 to 10 win.
- 21:20SPEAKER_04: Uh he seemed like he got the crowd fired up.
- 21:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, it wasn't like a sellout or anything, but you know, it's gonna be tough to sell out those FCS games.
- 21:27SPEAKER_04: But I think the crowd was into it.
- 21:29SPEAKER_04: Crowd was into it.
- 21:30SPEAKER_04: We were excited, you know.
- 21:31SPEAKER_04: We didn't get that turnover.
- 21:33SPEAKER_04: I think there's supposed to be like a new feature that when we get a turnover, there's like a loud sirens that play.
- 21:39SPEAKER_04: Um, so looking forward to the first one of those.
- 21:42SPEAKER_04: Hopefully, it comes against Houston.
- 21:44SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, I I think a great crowd overall.
- 21:47SPEAKER_04: Students showed out for at least the first half.
- 21:49SPEAKER_04: Um, but you know, you're you're always gonna get that in FCS.
- 21:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you're you're whenever you're crushing them by halftime, it's hard to keep them from getting to getting to the bars at that point.
- 21:58SPEAKER_08: Um, well, obviously, we'd Say the whole time, but we're built different.
- 22:01SPEAKER_08: Um, but no, seriously, thank you.
- 22:05SPEAKER_08: Thank you all and Loving for heading out there.
- 22:07SPEAKER_08: So uh Tailgate Talks was out there, and and some other guns up nation people, and obviously, all the fans, and that's just awesome to see.
- 22:14SPEAKER_08: Just see the excitement injected back into the program after a so-so season last season.
- 22:19SPEAKER_08: Um, so just just fantastic stuff all around from the fans and the program uh last Saturday.
- 22:25SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 22:26SPEAKER_04: You got it all over again this Saturday.
- 22:28SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we've got no FCS team.
- 22:32SPEAKER_04: No FCS team.
- 22:33SPEAKER_04: You have a legit top 25 team in Houston coming in.
- 22:36SPEAKER_04: They are number 25 according to the latest AP poll.
- 22:40SPEAKER_04: Uh, so it's cool that they stayed ranked because that's a ranked win you could have uh there on your schedule.
- 22:46SPEAKER_04: Um Texas Tech, a two and a half point favorite in this one.
- 22:50SPEAKER_04: As whoa, the line just moved.
- 22:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, the line moved a little bit.
- 22:54SPEAKER_04: Uh, I was a little surprised to see that.
- 22:55SPEAKER_04: I'm not gonna lie.
- 22:56SPEAKER_04: I know Houston just got off a tough, gritty win uh against the roadrunners of UTSA, but I you know, UTSA is not bad.
- 23:05SPEAKER_04: That's a good team right there.
- 23:07SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, it was in San Antonio.
- 23:10SPEAKER_04: Apparently, the crowd was pretty bumping at the at the dome there.
- 23:14SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, I I UTSA shouldn't just be something you just brush off.
- 23:19SPEAKER_08: And no, absolutely not.
- 23:20SPEAKER_04: They gave Houston absolute hell, man.
- 23:22SPEAKER_08: Yeah, they gave Houston everything they can handle.
- 23:24SPEAKER_08: I mean, they went to two overtimes, uh, and it took it a freak play from Clayton Toon to finally put it away.
- 23:30SPEAKER_08: Um, just a fantastic game overall between the two teams.
- 23:33SPEAKER_08: I wish we could have watched it live, but some jackass was getting married on a college football Saturday with some awesome matchups.
- 23:39SPEAKER_08: No, I I can't believe there would be people out there trying to brush off the UTSA win.
- 23:44SPEAKER_08: Um, it's a it's a big it's a good win.
- 23:46SPEAKER_08: And obviously, I think Houston fans probably would have accepted one, would have expected to not have to go into overtime to beat the birds over there in River City.
- 23:53SPEAKER_08: But dude, it's that that that game, that program is on the most up of any Texas program in the state.
- 23:59SPEAKER_08: So that what what what uh trailer's done over there, you know, you and I really wanted Coach Trailer to come to to Lubbock initially out of the gates before Wells was even fired.
- 24:08SPEAKER_08: And because that guy's doing something crazy in San Antonio, but you know, I I think what people are trying to go for whenever they look at this game is that you know, I don't know what kind of team UTSA is this season.
- 24:19SPEAKER_08: I don't know how many players they lost uh through the offseason, but uh you know, with with a program with a with a team that's as hyped up to you know be an American favorite and you know make a big challenge to go for an undefeated season and all, Houston probably should have done better.
- 24:35SPEAKER_08: And them going into double overtime against a team with probably lesser talent is a question.
- 24:40SPEAKER_08: So it definitely makes you, as a Texas Tech fan, feel a little more confident to host this Cougar team, and I think that's fair.
- 24:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, I think you saw some obvious holes in Houston's roster.
- 24:52SPEAKER_04: Uh the offensive line was really poor, they had a bad outing.
- 24:56SPEAKER_04: UTSA, I think I I saw a stat that somebody tagged us in.
- 24:59SPEAKER_04: Forgive me, I don't remember your Twitter handle, but um UTSA had like nine tackles for loss in this game, and they were pressuring Toon all night.
- 25:08SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, he had to scramble and make some pretty crazy plays to uh gut out this win.
- 25:14SPEAKER_04: Uh, something that I don't remember Clayton Toon being very good at.
- 25:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, I didn't think he was as mobile as he was in this game, and that dude can run.
- 25:22SPEAKER_04: I mean, he can escape the pocket really well and get out there uh and gain positive yardage and make big plays.
- 25:28SPEAKER_04: I was I was surprised.
- 25:29SPEAKER_04: I know a lot of people were kind of high on Clayton Toon going into this year.
- 25:32SPEAKER_04: I I I saw him against Tech last year.
- 25:35SPEAKER_04: I didn't think he was all that great, but uh it turned out uh he he was the reason they won this game.
- 25:41SPEAKER_08: Yeah, absolutely.
- 25:42SPEAKER_08: He he definitely got the MVP for the Cougars there, uh especially with that, like I said, that the the game winning touch, rushing touchdown.
- 25:48SPEAKER_08: He was using his legs the whole time, man.
- 25:50SPEAKER_08: It was crazy to watch.
- 25:51SPEAKER_08: I mean, he was the the leading rusher on the team, not not a back.
- 25:54SPEAKER_08: So just it a crazy game from him to uh put the to put his team on his back.
- 26:00SPEAKER_08: Um, but uh dude, I mean that feel makes me feel good if their offensive line is porous because talk about a position on the field that you want to be weak because you can just sit there and terrorize their offense.
- 26:12SPEAKER_08: If you're terrorizing their offense, they're not gonna score.
- 26:14SPEAKER_08: So with a with our talent that's probably much better than UTSA's defensive talent, that makes me feel really good about charging after two.
- 26:22SPEAKER_04: Yeah, absolutely.
- 26:24SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, their O-line was bad.
- 26:26SPEAKER_04: It was uh I watched I watched the extended highlights of that game that showed, you know, UTSA, man, they freaking got after it.
- 26:35SPEAKER_04: Um, but looking at Houston's roster, um, you know, you already mentioned Tank Dell.
- 26:41SPEAKER_04: He is the guy to watch on the receiving core.
- 26:44SPEAKER_04: Um, and the return game, he's an awesome returner.
- 26:47SPEAKER_04: He had a punt return at the beginning of the game that got called back because of kind of a kind of a bad call.
- 26:52SPEAKER_04: Um, but you know, he's just such a weapon.
- 26:56SPEAKER_04: Uh Matthew Golden also has big playability.
- 26:59SPEAKER_04: That's number 10 there.
- 27:00SPEAKER_04: They also have a couple other receivers in Man Jack and and you know, former Red Raider, Keyshawn Carter.
- 27:05SPEAKER_04: Uh, those are the other receiving options.
- 27:07SPEAKER_04: So uh he's got weapons there that he can throw to if he's got a little bit of time.
- 27:12SPEAKER_08: Yeah, but overall, when we're looking at the sheet, it's none none of the receivers you know exceeded 50, which is kind of must have been a short passing game plan from Holgerson.
- 27:22SPEAKER_08: Um, because you know, whenever the Adells catching five uh passes, but only getting 50 yards makes me think it was a lot of dink and dunkings, you know, rather than uh shots downfield, huh?
- 27:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, yeah, definitely not a lot of shots.
- 27:34SPEAKER_04: Uh they took.
- 27:35SPEAKER_04: I think uh UTSA's uh secondary did a pretty good job, but um, you know, they they had like certain plays where they would go like 90 yards all the way down for a touchdown, a lot of slants, a lot of uh dink and dunk type plays, you know, grind out yards, and um Houston made it work.
- 27:53SPEAKER_04: I mean, you know, honestly, for a three overtime game, 37-35 is pretty low scoring, uh, to be honest.
- 27:59SPEAKER_04: So, you know, the offense wasn't, you know, as electric as I think they can be uh over there in Houston.
- 28:07SPEAKER_04: And I think a lot of that had to do with that O-line, but um, you know, uh their running backs are definitely uh something that is concerning if you're a Cougar fan.
- 28:17SPEAKER_04: Um their main guy, uh McCaskill, went down with an ACL tear in April, and he's not gonna be playing for them.
- 28:24SPEAKER_04: So uh their top two running backs right now are Tizon Henry and uh Brandon Campbell, who's a USC transfer.
- 28:31SPEAKER_04: And both of them, I mean, they're good.
- 28:34SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, we've seen Tizan.
- 28:35SPEAKER_04: Tizon's uh he's a decent running back, he's very small.
- 28:39SPEAKER_04: Um, but it's they're just not number one back type guys, yeah.
- 28:44SPEAKER_04: Uh when you look at them, and so not having and that combined with a poor O-line, uh, that's not that's not good for Houston's run game.
- 28:53SPEAKER_08: Yeah, you know, you can actually see you can absolutely see that on their on their stat line here.
- 28:56SPEAKER_08: Uh, that's what's something that popped out to me while I was looking at this, that and uh obviously the the receivers not exactly getting big yardage either.
- 29:03SPEAKER_08: So, dude, it's it it's an interesting team here that we're looking at with the Cougars, maybe slightly overrated with the expectations going to the season and obviously uh being ranked now, but uh all that says to me is that they're beatable.
- 29:16SPEAKER_08: And I think whenever we're looking at this season going in, I at least said, Yeah, that's a that's a winnable game, but we always kind of look at that as a 50-50 going in, and I'm starting to feel better and better about our chances doing it.
- 29:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, for sure, especially after watching that UTSA game.
- 29:30SPEAKER_04: But um, a weapon that they didn't really utilize that I think they might against Texas Tech is uh the tight end Christian Trahan.
- 29:38SPEAKER_04: He had a pretty good game last season against tech.
- 29:40SPEAKER_04: Uh, he's just a big body, he's a good pass-catching tight end type player.
- 29:44SPEAKER_04: Uh, can also block pretty well.
- 29:46SPEAKER_04: So um I'd watch out for Trehan.
- 29:48SPEAKER_04: I think he's number 85 there.
- 29:50SPEAKER_04: Uh, he's gonna be a reliable option that I think uh Dana Holgerson's gonna go to quite a bit against Texas Tech.
- 29:58SPEAKER_08: Oh man, so this is kind of like this has gotta be one of the first times Dana Holgerson's coming back to Lubbock since uh being a West Virginia coach.
- 30:05SPEAKER_08: So that's gotta be kind of surreal for him.
- 30:07SPEAKER_08: And he actually had some pretty nice words to say about Lubbock, you know, in his in his in his interview there.
- 30:12SPEAKER_08: Because you know, he was actually coach at tech for a while.
- 30:15SPEAKER_08: So it's uh I have a hard time hating the guy.
- 30:18SPEAKER_08: And like and you guys always give me crap for like saying, you know, Holgerson's kind of rat.
- 30:22SPEAKER_08: He kind of is kind of rat.
- 30:24SPEAKER_08: Just me.
- 30:25SPEAKER_08: Any of the listeners out there agreeing with me or no?
- 30:27SPEAKER_04: Just you, man.
- 30:28SPEAKER_04: Dane is okay.
- 30:29SPEAKER_04: Dane is okay.
- 30:30SPEAKER_04: He's he's a he seems like a fine guy, but uh, yeah, and obviously spent a lot of time at Texas Tech and Lubbock, and um, you know, cool, cool during the time he was there, but now he's he's the coach that we're facing, man.
- 30:43SPEAKER_04: I'm not I'm not gonna get on board with that, but um, you know, the scariest, the scariest part of Houston's team is the defensive line to me.
- 30:54SPEAKER_04: They get a lot of pressure.
- 30:56SPEAKER_04: Uh, and UTSA's quarterback was pretty mobile.
- 30:58SPEAKER_04: He escapes a few times, but um man, Donovan's gonna have to be if uh you know, Donovan's gonna be running a little bit because they have a few guys on that defensive line that are scary.
- 31:08SPEAKER_04: Um, and if they can get consistent pressure and our offensive line doesn't hold up well, um, you know, it it it might be a bad day for Texas Tech.
- 31:16SPEAKER_04: But um, you know, that's why I I do have faith in Donovan.
- 31:20SPEAKER_04: Uh, he's a great, you know, he can escape the pocket, he's good on his feet, he's quick, he's tough.
- 31:26SPEAKER_04: Um, so I guess that's a good part of it.
- 31:28SPEAKER_04: But uh this is this is the first real test for this offensive line to see what we can do against a pretty darn good defensive line in Houston.
- 31:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, absolutely.
- 31:38SPEAKER_08: Uh that that's obviously a real concern.
- 31:40SPEAKER_08: Um, but the the quarterback for ETSA, Frank Harris, was still able to put up just stupid yardage um at with uh at at the helm there for the roadrunners against the Cougars.
- 31:51SPEAKER_08: He put up 337 yards.
- 31:53SPEAKER_08: Um, so he's still able to put the ball in the air.
- 31:56SPEAKER_08: So that gives me a lot of hope for our R O line and our uh our quarterback talent to be able to make the to move the ball.
- 32:02SPEAKER_08: So I while that's a concern and it's probably gonna be our biggest issue against the Couggs, I still feel pretty good about putting numbers on the board because I mean UTSA was still able to ring up some uh ring up a pretty high number.
- 32:15SPEAKER_08: I mean, obviously it was a 37-35 double overtime, like you said, that's not that high, but they were still able to ring it up and they were they were obviously weren't locked down because you know they led the game for a lot of it against the Coughts.
- 32:26SPEAKER_04: Well, they allowed big plays too.
- 32:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, you know, they had some some long bomb passes that made it work, and um, Houston lost their starting two corners from last season to really, really good players, and now they're starting um Art Green and another former red raider, Alex Hogan.
- 32:42SPEAKER_04: Those are the one and two corners uh that are gonna be going up against Fungi and and Bradley on the outside.
- 32:48SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, those guys gave up some some touchdowns, so I think there's some growing pains there for those guys, and uh, you know, we could really see another another big showing from our outside receivers.
- 33:01SPEAKER_08: How is how many uh Red Raiders do they have on this team?
- 33:05SPEAKER_08: How many transfers?
- 33:06SPEAKER_08: Three.
- 33:07SPEAKER_04: I think it's Tizan, Tazan, Keyshawn Carter, and uh and Alex Hogan, three guys that were on the team last year.
- 33:13SPEAKER_04: All starters, yeah.
- 33:14SPEAKER_04: All three of them, all three of them are starting.
- 33:16SPEAKER_04: Tizan probably wouldn't have started if if McCaskell didn't tear up his knee, but um, yeah, he's he's he's a starting running back now.
- 33:24SPEAKER_08: Oh my gosh, dude.
- 33:25SPEAKER_08: That this Houston needs to stop.
- 33:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, in in in football and basketball, enough.
- 33:31SPEAKER_04: Like they like former Red Raiders, yes, they do.
- 33:34SPEAKER_04: They have Malik Wilson now from last year's basketball team.
- 33:37SPEAKER_04: He's on the Cougars basketball roster, Kyler Edwards, obviously.
- 33:40SPEAKER_04: Uh yeah, Houston likes taking our guys.
- 33:43SPEAKER_04: Enough, not a big one.
- 33:45SPEAKER_08: Especially once they join the Big 12.
- 33:46SPEAKER_08: You cannot do that anymore.
- 33:48SPEAKER_04: Yeah, not a big fan.
- 33:49SPEAKER_04: Um, but yeah, you know, I think keys to victory if you're Texas Tech, secondary's got to do a much better job if you're the Red Raiders.
- 33:56SPEAKER_04: Um, you got to find a way to cover all these different receiving weapons, um, and then kind of rely on the defensive line to do what they did against Murray State and get some pressure on tune so he doesn't have a lot of time to throw.
- 34:07SPEAKER_04: Um, Houston's rush, keep him a non-factor.
- 34:11SPEAKER_04: You you really we did a great job of that against Murray State.
- 34:14SPEAKER_04: These guys are a little better.
- 34:16SPEAKER_04: So um, you know, uh just just hold the rushing down a little bit, and I think you'll be okay.
- 34:22SPEAKER_04: Um, and the big test for the O-line.
- 34:24SPEAKER_04: O-line's got to hold their ground too.
- 34:26SPEAKER_04: Um, give Donovan some time to find guys.
- 34:29SPEAKER_04: Uh, I think you're gonna see a lot more Miles Price in this game.
- 34:33SPEAKER_04: Miles Price has got to get more involved, and he will uh against a better defense in Houston.
- 34:38SPEAKER_08: No, I I think I think you nailed it, man.
- 34:40SPEAKER_08: I I think these are exactly what needs to happen.
- 34:43SPEAKER_08: So are we winning this game?
- 34:45SPEAKER_08: Yes or no, Steven.
- 34:46SPEAKER_08: Is this a dub for the Red Raiders?
- 34:48SPEAKER_08: This is are we two and oh Sunday?
- 34:50SPEAKER_04: I said it from the start, said it when we talked about the schedule.
- 34:54SPEAKER_04: We are going to beat the Couggs.
- 34:55SPEAKER_04: We are four and oh in the last four.
- 34:59SPEAKER_04: Uh Tommy Tubberville, Cliff Kingsbury, and Matt Wells were our coach during those, and uh, we still beat him.
- 35:05SPEAKER_04: And uh, I don't see why Joey McGuire is gonna stop that train.
- 35:09SPEAKER_04: Uh, I just see our team being better after watching both teams play.
- 35:13SPEAKER_04: And uh, you know, it again, it's hard to judge when you play such a crappy opponent and they play a pretty decent opponent in UTSA, but um, you know, this is this is gonna be a test for sure.
- 35:23SPEAKER_04: I don't think it's gonna be a blowout by any means.
- 35:26SPEAKER_04: I think it's gonna be a pretty close game back and forth.
- 35:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, but I have Texas Tech 38, Houston 30 in this one with the Reddit.
- 35:32SPEAKER_07: Oh, let's go and let's go pretty close, man.
- 35:35SPEAKER_07: Yeah, a one possession game, huh?
- 35:38SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be close.
- 35:39SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be close.
- 35:40SPEAKER_04: They they went up early last year.
- 35:41SPEAKER_04: I think they were up 14-0 pretty quick on us.
- 35:43SPEAKER_04: They pulled off the the little onside kick that Dana pulled out uh there at the beginning, and they got up early, and we found a way to come back on them.
- 35:52SPEAKER_04: And uh, I'm I think it'll be it'll be a lot of back and forth this game.
- 35:56SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I I I I I agree with that take.
- 35:59SPEAKER_08: And uh I think a key to how we've been beating Houston is we've also been catching them early in the season.
- 36:05SPEAKER_08: This seems to be a program that picks up steam, and at the end of the season, they're pretty monstrous.
- 36:10SPEAKER_08: And for some reason, we just we just know how to get them early.
- 36:14SPEAKER_08: And once again, this is an early game.
- 36:16SPEAKER_08: We're hosting them in Lubbock, so it's not gonna be easy for them at all.
- 36:19SPEAKER_08: Um, or I think our crowds can be bumping.
- 36:21SPEAKER_08: It's a three o'clock game, so all the students don't have to don't have the excuse of it being too early.
- 36:24SPEAKER_08: So the student section is gonna be rowdy, everyone's gonna have enough time to drink and party in the tailgate parking lot.
- 36:29SPEAKER_08: So I think we're gonna, it's like it's gonna be rowdy, and I think we got this dub as well, man.
- 36:33SPEAKER_08: I think 2-0 is absolutely happening.
- 36:35SPEAKER_04: Yep, we should have mentioned 3 p.m.
- 36:38SPEAKER_04: Fox Sports 1.
- 36:39SPEAKER_04: If you are not in Lubbock and can't attend the game, um, you know, good time.
- 36:43SPEAKER_04: Good time.
- 36:44SPEAKER_04: It's gonna be hot, it's gonna be fun.
- 36:46SPEAKER_04: Uh Houston coming into town, excited for this one because this is this is where you're really gonna see a lot about the Red Raiders and what they're made of.
- 36:53SPEAKER_04: Uh, and I think they're gonna step up.
- 36:56SPEAKER_08: Absolutely, man.
- 36:57SPEAKER_08: I think we got the more talented team.
- 36:59SPEAKER_08: Uh, I think I think we definitely get the Koogs or the future conference mates.
- 37:02SPEAKER_08: And I think we're two and oh.
- 37:03SPEAKER_04: What you got?
- 37:04SPEAKER_04: Score prediction.
- 37:05SPEAKER_04: What you got?
- 37:06SPEAKER_08: Shoot, man.
- 37:07SPEAKER_08: I I didn't really think about it until you said yours.
- 37:09SPEAKER_08: I always I always forget about the score prediction.
- 37:12SPEAKER_08: Um, I I think we score more points than you said.
- 37:15SPEAKER_08: I think we're closer to 50.
- 37:16SPEAKER_08: I think we're at like a 46, a 48, and they're at like a 36.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: Oh wow.
- 37:22SPEAKER_04: So you're thinking like a two-touchdown game.
- 37:25SPEAKER_08: I think at the end of it, we we've gotten up a slight edge.
- 37:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think I think that's what happens.
- 37:30SPEAKER_04: Cool.
- 37:30SPEAKER_04: I hope you're right, man.
- 37:31SPEAKER_04: I hope Zach Kidley pulls out some some tricks and gets Miles Price in there and uh potentially some tight end action.
- 37:38SPEAKER_04: And uh, we just go for it, man.
- 37:40SPEAKER_04: Let's score another 50 burger.
- 37:42SPEAKER_04: Let's freak out.
- 37:42SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's what I was about to say the 50 burger, right?
- 37:45SPEAKER_08: I I'm wondering if we have the return of Texas Tech that's gonna score 50 plus points on you no matter who you are, but we still have the defense that's actually capable enough of holding the other team below said 50 burger.
- 38:02SPEAKER_08: So that's the dream.
- 38:03SPEAKER_08: That's always been the dream.
- 38:04SPEAKER_08: So let's hope and see that this is kind of the uh the the preview to if for that being the reality.
- 38:10SPEAKER_04: I tell you what, if you put up 50 on Houston and then put up 50 on NC State, I think that's a pretty safe bet that you can do that against uh pretty much everybody in this league.
- 38:19SPEAKER_04: So uh, you know, maybe in a good way, you know, Baylor and Oklahoma State have pretty good defenses there.
- 38:25SPEAKER_04: So uh, but speaking of the rest of the Big 12, we're gonna make some picks.
- 38:30SPEAKER_04: Let's make some picks for a stacked week two for the Big 12 conference.
- 38:35SPEAKER_04: It is a uh a lot of good games on.
- 38:38SPEAKER_04: Um, you know, Baylor, BYU, you have Kansas, West Virginia, you have Iowa, Iowa State, Tech, Houston, Alabama, Texas, Mizoo K State.
- 38:47SPEAKER_04: This is a huge week for the Big 12 to potentially make some noise.
- 38:51SPEAKER_04: I mean, obviously, you know, Sands, Texas, and Oklahoma, I don't give a crap what happens with them.
- 38:56SPEAKER_04: For sure.
- 38:57SPEAKER_04: But, you know, uh, let's talk about some uh we're gonna go by spreads, we're gonna just see um go down the list of Big 12 games and see what we think.
- 39:04SPEAKER_04: So let's start with the 11 a.m.
- 39:07SPEAKER_04: games.
- 39:08SPEAKER_04: Uh, that is going to be Mizu at K-State, former Big 12, former what, Big Eight, they were in together.
- 39:17SPEAKER_04: Um, tech K-State opened up minus eight on here.
- 39:22SPEAKER_04: Uh, what do you think is gonna happen?
- 39:24SPEAKER_08: Um, you know, people are pretty high on K-State.
- 39:27SPEAKER_08: It's kind of a sweetheart this season.
- 39:29SPEAKER_08: Um, and people are pretty low on Missouri.
- 39:31SPEAKER_08: People are picking Missouri to be one of the worst teams in the SEC.
- 39:34SPEAKER_08: Well, they're picking K-State to be one of the best in the Big 12, or at least top half.
- 39:38SPEAKER_08: Um, but minus eight's a pretty big number.
- 39:40SPEAKER_08: It's a pretty big number for two teams you don't know a ton about yet.
- 39:45SPEAKER_08: Um, but you know, I'm gonna go ahead and say they they beat Kansas State beats that spread.
- 39:50SPEAKER_08: They win, they win by two touchdowns, in my opinion, against Missouri, uh, especially since it's in Manhattan.
- 39:54SPEAKER_08: I think that Manhattan ground is gonna be rowdy for a former rival coming to town.
- 39:58SPEAKER_08: It's been a while.
- 39:58SPEAKER_08: Um, you know, a lot of bitter feelings there still.
- 40:01SPEAKER_08: I think K-State's gonna care about this game more than Missouri.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: I agree.
- 40:04SPEAKER_04: I have K-State beating the spread pretty easily.
- 40:07SPEAKER_04: Um, I think uh they went 34-0 uh against their FCS team, which was a mad decent one.
- 40:13SPEAKER_04: I think what was it, South Dakota?
- 40:15SPEAKER_04: So it's a mad decent team.
- 40:17SPEAKER_04: Oh, yeah, South Dakota, yeah.
- 40:18SPEAKER_04: Not South D state, though.
- 40:20SPEAKER_04: So uh, you know, their defense is their defense is not something I want to mess with.
- 40:25SPEAKER_04: Uh so I think they'll take care of business against Mizu.
- 40:28SPEAKER_04: They'll probably win by two touchdowns.
- 40:30SPEAKER_04: Um next up, easy peasy.
- 40:36SPEAKER_04: The uh fighting Nick Sabans, the Alabama Crimson Tide come in to Austin, Texas to play the Longhorns.
- 40:45SPEAKER_04: Uh Alabama 20-point favorite uh in this one, which is correct.
- 40:51SPEAKER_04: Uh, probably should be a little more, to be honest with you.
- 40:54SPEAKER_04: Texas beat, I think they won 55-10 in their opening game.
- 40:59SPEAKER_04: Uh, you didn't see a ton from Ewers.
- 41:01SPEAKER_04: I think it was uh you didn't really have to.
- 41:04SPEAKER_04: Um, but Alabama beat Utah State 55-0.
- 41:08SPEAKER_04: Alabama is gonna be a playoff team.
- 41:12SPEAKER_04: Uh, what do you got?
- 41:14SPEAKER_08: You know, I think this is a pretty easy slam.
- 41:16SPEAKER_08: I think Alabama beats Texas by way more than 20.
- 41:20SPEAKER_08: I think Alabama is gonna be up about 30 points on him at the end of the game.
- 41:24SPEAKER_08: I think this is a year where Nick Saban's just not losing.
- 41:28SPEAKER_08: I think they're on they're gonna just plow through everyone they see until they get to Georgia and inevitably win the national championship.
- 41:36SPEAKER_08: I think it's just kind of a Nick Saban thing where he loses, he lost in the national championship before.
- 41:41SPEAKER_08: No one's gonna touch him the next year.
- 41:42SPEAKER_08: I wouldn't want to even come near him after a loss in the national championship.
- 41:46SPEAKER_08: So I think it's an easy Alabama covers.
- 41:49SPEAKER_08: I think Alabama plows through Texas.
- 41:50SPEAKER_08: I think the only way Texas keeps it below the spread is if they really just sling the ball out and throw it over the throw it over their heads for a lot, but I just don't see that happening.
- 41:59SPEAKER_08: I think Alabama's just too good for them, too much for him.
- 42:01SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Texas's O-line is not good enough and their defense is not good enough.
- 42:05SPEAKER_04: Bryce Young is gonna go crazy in this one.
- 42:07SPEAKER_04: I they're gonna win by 40.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: Wow, 40.
- 42:10SPEAKER_08: I'm saying 30, you're saying 40.
- 42:12SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean, I just don't Texas prove it to me.
- 42:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Texas could prove it if they play them close.
- 42:19SPEAKER_04: I mean, I'll start thinking a little higher at Texas, but they haven't proved it.
- 42:23SPEAKER_04: Sark hasn't proved it, nobody's proved it.
- 42:25SPEAKER_04: So uh yeah, you gotta you gotta slam BAM on this one.
- 42:29SPEAKER_04: Uh three o'clock.
- 42:30SPEAKER_08: I remember I remember uh before we move on, I remember one of UT's big victories of the past few seasons.
- 42:35SPEAKER_08: You know, there are many of them.
- 42:36SPEAKER_08: They're they're they've they've they've been very successful lately, was them keeping it pretty close against the uh LSU national champions, and they like hung that banner the whole season.
- 42:46SPEAKER_04: They did, they did early on.
- 42:48SPEAKER_04: That game was in Austin too, I think.
- 42:51SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean that was that was impressive, to be honest.
- 42:54SPEAKER_04: I mean, that lsu team was really good.
- 42:56SPEAKER_04: It was it was I mean, they ended up sucking that year, Texas, of course, but um yeah, I if Texas is close in this game, first off, I'm gonna be upset.
- 43:08SPEAKER_04: Second off, second off is just not gonna happen.
- 43:12SPEAKER_04: I just don't see any possible way that Texas is close with Bama, even in Austin.
- 43:17SPEAKER_04: And I think they play him again next year in in Tuscaloosa, it's gonna be an even bigger beatdown.
- 43:22SPEAKER_04: So um, yeah, slam Bama here.
- 43:25SPEAKER_04: Houston, Texas Tech.
- 43:26SPEAKER_04: We already mentioned uh tech two and a half point favorite at this point.
- 43:30SPEAKER_04: I think we both have tech winning uh by a good amount.
- 43:33SPEAKER_04: So I uh slam Texas Tech there.
- 43:36SPEAKER_04: Um, this game is always funky.
- 43:39SPEAKER_04: Uh Iowa State at Iowa, the battle for Iowa.
- 43:44SPEAKER_04: The the corn battle, corn battle, corn boys, cyhawk, LFG.
- 43:49SPEAKER_04: Iowa's a three and a half point favorite.
- 43:51SPEAKER_04: They scored seven points last week against South Dakota State, uh, with a field goal and two safeties in one of the worst football games of all time.
- 43:59SPEAKER_04: Um And Iowa State beat uh their FCS opponent pretty good.
- 44:04SPEAKER_04: I I don't believe in Iowa State.
- 44:08SPEAKER_04: I haven't believed in this year's Iowa State team.
- 44:11SPEAKER_04: I know how good Matt Campbell is.
- 44:12SPEAKER_04: We mentioned it.
- 44:13SPEAKER_04: They lost too much.
- 44:14SPEAKER_04: Iowa is not good offensively, but their defense is gonna hold Iowa State down, and I think their offense is gonna make it work.
- 44:24SPEAKER_04: Um I'm going Iowa here.
- 44:27SPEAKER_08: Iowa as in Iowa beats the spread.
- 44:30SPEAKER_08: Yeah.
- 44:31SPEAKER_04: As in they beat the three and a half spread.
- 44:34SPEAKER_08: This one's really tough.
- 44:36SPEAKER_08: This is probably the toughest one on the sheets here because it's just such a small margin to work with.
- 44:41SPEAKER_08: And Iowa's offense was just hideously anemic against an FCS team whose defense cannot possibly be that good.
- 44:50SPEAKER_08: Or that you just can't do that.
- 44:52SPEAKER_08: You can't score anything.
- 44:53SPEAKER_08: Like that's that's just bizarre.
- 44:55SPEAKER_08: Dude, I'm gonna go, I'll go ahead and disagree with you so we can keep it interesting.
- 44:59SPEAKER_08: I I think I think Iowa State I think Iowa State's gonna win this game, and but that's not a confident, I think they're gonna win this game because I just think that Iowa State has an offense to actually score, to actually make it work, while Iowa, I just don't know if Iowa can do it against what's going to be a better defense than South Dakota State's.
- 45:23SPEAKER_08: Like, how are we supposed to believe that's gonna improve against them?
- 45:25SPEAKER_08: So for I'm just gonna reluctantly say Iowa State wins, therefore beating the spread.
- 45:30SPEAKER_04: Iowa State has not won this game a lot.
- 45:33SPEAKER_04: Uh no, Iowa always seems to squeak it out even when Iowa State has a really good team.
- 45:38SPEAKER_04: Uh and that's just why I think Iowa state Iowa's gonna win this, like, I don't know, 17 to 7 or something.
- 45:44SPEAKER_04: Yeah, stupid.
- 45:45SPEAKER_08: It's gonna be something ugly and boring.
- 45:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, that's I mean, you know, I don't I don't want to hate on the state of Iowa here, but it's kind of it's kind of the state of Iowa.
- 45:54SPEAKER_08: Ugly and boring.
- 45:55SPEAKER_08: Not ugly.
- 45:56SPEAKER_04: I've never been to Iowa, so I can't say it's ugly, but definitely boring.
- 46:00SPEAKER_08: Some some harshness there, sir.
- 46:01SPEAKER_04: No, I don't want to, I don't want to hate on my corn boys.
- 46:04SPEAKER_04: Uh you know, they're a vital part of uh making this country go round, but uh yeah, pretty boring.
- 46:11SPEAKER_08: You haven't lived until you've had a buttered corn decob in Des Boines, Iowa.
- 46:17SPEAKER_08: So how about you save your opinions until after said meal?
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: That's true.
- 46:23SPEAKER_04: I need to attend, I need to go to Iowa before I judge it any further.
- 46:27SPEAKER_04: I don't want to piss off our guy Travis or anybody from the great state.
- 46:32SPEAKER_04: Uh, so let's just move on.
- 46:35SPEAKER_04: This game is a little spicy.
- 46:38SPEAKER_04: It is with you.
- 46:39SPEAKER_08: That line is spicy.
- 46:41SPEAKER_04: This line is spicy.
- 46:42SPEAKER_04: We have the mighty Kansas Jayhawks, the fight and lance Lipolds, uh, going to Morgantown and playing in the first Big 12 conference game of the year.
- 46:52SPEAKER_04: Um, West Virginia, a 13-point favorite right now.
- 46:56SPEAKER_04: What you got, man?
- 46:58SPEAKER_08: I I'm just glad that my opinion about West Virginia has kind of been confirmed.
- 47:06SPEAKER_08: I don't know where all the hype was coming from coming from with West Virginia.
- 47:10SPEAKER_08: I think Neil Brown's toast this season.
- 47:12SPEAKER_08: I think this is his last year in Morgantown.
- 47:15SPEAKER_08: Um, you know, losing like that to uh your biggest rival in Pittsburgh.
- 47:19SPEAKER_08: Uh and I who know Pittsburgh's probably not even that great either.
- 47:22SPEAKER_08: So it's just I think the fighting birds with shoes cover the spread here.
- 47:28SPEAKER_08: I think West Virginia wins, but I think the fighting birds with shoes cover.
- 47:32SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I think West Virginia only wins by like maybe 10 points.
- 47:38SPEAKER_04: Listen, there's a lot of love for the Jayhawks after smoking whatever bumass university they played.
- 47:45SPEAKER_04: Hey, that's new for them.
- 47:47SPEAKER_04: It is, it's new.
- 47:48SPEAKER_04: You gotta give it to them, give them up.
- 47:50SPEAKER_04: Tennessee Tech, uh, you know, they they took care of business and they did what they're supposed to do as a power five school.
- 47:57SPEAKER_04: Um, Kansas is going to lose this game, and Kansas is gonna lose by three touchdowns.
- 48:05SPEAKER_04: Wow, okay, we're starting to three here, huh?
- 48:08SPEAKER_04: I I do not believe Kansas is going to be a four and eight or three and nine football team.
- 48:15SPEAKER_04: No, I think Kansas is going to lose this game.
- 48:18SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna lose to Duke, and I think they're gonna lose to Houston, and I mean, I just don't see a way, and now they could prove me wrong.
- 48:27SPEAKER_04: I'm not saying that's impossible, but I don't I don't believe in Kansas.
- 48:31SPEAKER_04: Sorry.
- 48:33SPEAKER_08: I would call it Jets about the Duke take.
- 48:35SPEAKER_08: I mean, Duke's pretty bad, bro.
- 48:37SPEAKER_08: That may be true.
- 48:38SPEAKER_04: Let's let's wait a second on Duke, but they may they may beat Duke, but uh dude, West Virginia actually surprised me a little bit in that pit game.
- 48:47SPEAKER_04: I think they looked pretty good until the very end there, where again the receiver screwed them by just not catching the ball, and Pitt returned it for a pick six.
- 48:55SPEAKER_04: Um, I think JT Daniels is pretty good, and I think their defensive line is pretty good.
- 49:00SPEAKER_04: So I I mean, and it's in Morgantown, I think West Virginia is gonna win by 21.
- 49:05SPEAKER_08: Look, all I know is Kansas is one and oh, and West Virginia's 0-1.
- 49:11SPEAKER_08: So that's all I know.
- 49:13SPEAKER_08: You do the math.
- 49:14SPEAKER_08: I'm with you, man.
- 49:15SPEAKER_08: I'm not I'm not saying I'm like one of these guys that has Kansas finishing like seventh in the Big 12, like a psychopath.
- 49:21SPEAKER_08: I think they win at most three games this season.
- 49:24SPEAKER_08: I think they they they could get one over Duke and maybe sneak one over a Big 12 team.
- 49:28SPEAKER_08: They do that's not crazy, they do that every once in a while, especially if your name's Texas.
- 49:31SPEAKER_08: So it's it's not out of the question, but I'm with you.
- 49:34SPEAKER_08: It's not like Kansas is a new team.
- 49:36SPEAKER_04: This is one of Kansas's more winnable Big 12 games, so I'll give you that.
- 49:41SPEAKER_04: Um, but uh just being on the road, I don't know if they can really pull it off here.
- 49:44SPEAKER_04: Hey, I say beat the spread, they're not beating the Mountaineers.
- 49:47SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Kansas, you have them beating the spread.
- 49:49SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna have West Virginia uh beating them pretty handedly.
- 49:52SPEAKER_04: Um, boring game, Kent State at Oklahoma and Norman OU's a 32 and a half point favorite.
- 49:59SPEAKER_04: Slam it.
- 50:00SPEAKER_08: That's that's a huge margin, though.
- 50:02SPEAKER_08: I mean, but Kent State blows the golden flashes, the fighting sabans.
- 50:06SPEAKER_08: It's hard to think that you know Oklahoma's taking a step back enough to even consider them not beating them by more than 30 points.
- 50:16SPEAKER_08: So I'm with yeah, it's gotta be over.
- 50:18SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Oklahoma railed UTEP last week.
- 50:21SPEAKER_04: Uh they're gonna rail Kent State to Norman.
- 50:24SPEAKER_04: Two G5 teams is Kent's Kent State's G5.
- 50:29SPEAKER_04: Yeah.
- 50:30SPEAKER_04: Okay.
- 50:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I mean it's two very bottom tier G5 teams.
- 50:34SPEAKER_08: Oh, I I guess I guess OU is not playing an FCS team then, if that's the case.
- 50:38SPEAKER_08: But yeah, I guess that's yeah, no, that's two, but those that's two boo-boo g5 teams.
- 50:42SPEAKER_08: Like those are borderline FCS.
- 50:44SPEAKER_08: Like, that's that's bad.
- 50:46SPEAKER_04: UTAPs improved from being the absolute nightmare that they were a couple years ago, where they what didn't win a game.
- 50:53SPEAKER_04: But but yeah, no, Oklahoma's gonna rail Kent State, it's gonna happen.
- 50:59SPEAKER_04: Uh Pac-12, Big 12.
- 51:01SPEAKER_04: This is the big topic right now.
- 51:02SPEAKER_04: Which conference is gonna survive?
- 51:05SPEAKER_04: Arizona State, Oklahoma State.
- 51:08SPEAKER_04: This game's in Stillwater.
- 51:09SPEAKER_04: Uh Oklahoma State kind of struggled a little bit against Central Michigan in the first game.
- 51:14SPEAKER_04: Uh at least they let them score a ton.
- 51:17SPEAKER_04: Um, Arizona State is supposed to take a step back.
- 51:20SPEAKER_04: I don't think they're very good this year.
- 51:22SPEAKER_04: Um, either either way, Oklahoma State is an 11-point favorite in Stillwater.
- 51:26SPEAKER_04: Uh, what do you think?
- 51:28SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I I think they get two touchdowns on them.
- 51:31SPEAKER_08: Um, I I'm thinking that, you know, Oklahoma State let Central Michigan Swiss cheese them in the second half, like big time.
- 51:38SPEAKER_08: But I think that was kind of them just kind of letting their foot off the gas and starting to not care so much anymore.
- 51:44SPEAKER_08: I think it's gonna be uh they're gonna be picking themselves a little up a little bit more against the Sun Devils, but the Sun Devils are supposed to be like one of the bottom back teams this year.
- 51:52SPEAKER_08: So um I think Oklahoma State gets it by two touchdowns.
- 51:56SPEAKER_08: I think it, I think they beat the spread.
- 51:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I'll agree with you.
- 51:59SPEAKER_04: I know Arizona State is crap, they're not gonna be good.
- 52:02SPEAKER_08: So uh yeah, bottom of the pack means it's you're bad.
- 52:05SPEAKER_08: Like, look at Colorado against TCU.
- 52:07SPEAKER_08: That was a crapshoot.
- 52:09SPEAKER_04: That was a nightmare.
- 52:10SPEAKER_04: And the Pac-12, of course, has looked terrible.
- 52:13SPEAKER_04: Oregon for a long time.
- 52:15SPEAKER_04: 49 to 3 to Georgia.
- 52:18SPEAKER_04: Georgia's great.
- 52:20SPEAKER_04: Georgia's great, they're the defending national champs.
- 52:22SPEAKER_04: Uh you lost 49 to 3 as the 11th ranked preseason team in the nation.
- 52:27SPEAKER_08: Pac-12 favorite, you know, like that's just bad.
- 52:30SPEAKER_08: That's a bad look.
- 52:31SPEAKER_08: At least touchdown, dog.
- 52:33SPEAKER_04: And then Utah lost to Florida, unranked Florida, first year coach over there, and and they tore him apart.
- 52:39SPEAKER_04: I mean, uh, they only won by I don't know, two or three, but um, yeah.
- 52:43SPEAKER_04: Uh uh who would have thought down year for the Pac-12.
- 52:46SPEAKER_08: Yeah, that's uncommon.
- 52:48SPEAKER_08: That's it's certainly a surprise to everybody.
- 52:51SPEAKER_08: Uncommon, but they're better than the Big 12 or something.
- 52:53SPEAKER_08: I don't know, according to every talking head.
- 52:55SPEAKER_04: They do have some beaches, you can always always rely on the beaches.
- 53:00SPEAKER_04: Pretty cool.
- 53:01SPEAKER_08: I cannot believe people are still unironically tweeting that.
- 53:05SPEAKER_08: Did you saw those like for UTSA?
- 53:07SPEAKER_08: Yeah, yeah.
- 53:07SPEAKER_08: Like, oh 90 degrees, and there's beaches nearby, and there's stuff to do.
- 53:12SPEAKER_08: That's not the dunk you think it is for college sports, it's unbelievable.
- 53:16SPEAKER_04: Yeah, Doug Gottlieb out here, uh, doing it.
- 53:18SPEAKER_04: It was Stewie Mandel last year, it's Doug Gottlieb this year.
- 53:22SPEAKER_04: Just guys that for some reason want that pitiful conference to keep on going.
- 53:27SPEAKER_04: Yeah, uh, you know, whatever.
- 53:28SPEAKER_04: Uh, next game, there's no line for it, so I don't know.
- 53:31SPEAKER_04: Tarleton at TCU.
- 53:33SPEAKER_04: TCU's gonna win.
- 53:34SPEAKER_04: I don't know, whatever line it is.
- 53:36SPEAKER_04: It's Tarleton.
- 53:38SPEAKER_08: It's gonna be it's gonna be a lot of points.
- 53:40SPEAKER_08: It's gonna, I mean, this it's kind of cool that TCU's playing Tarleton because I mean Tarleton just became a D1 team a year or two ago.
- 53:47SPEAKER_08: So TCU is probably one of the only P5 Texas teams they've played so far.
- 53:51SPEAKER_08: So uh, but the one purple team is gonna crush the other, and I don't think it's gonna be Tarleton State Texans.
- 53:58SPEAKER_04: Go Texans, go Texans, obviously.
- 54:01SPEAKER_04: Oh, TCU, what is up with TCU?
- 54:04SPEAKER_04: Colorado and then Tarleton.
- 54:05SPEAKER_04: I guess they play SMU next, so that's kind of a uh good opponent there, but it's a tougher game, yeah.
- 54:10SPEAKER_04: Um, yeah, I don't think you're really gonna figure out much about TCU until SMU, and then they play Oklahoma right after.
- 54:16SPEAKER_04: So you'll figure out whether where TCU lands on the spectrum, but yeah, they're gonna kill Tarleton.
- 54:21SPEAKER_04: That's just how it works.
- 54:22SPEAKER_04: This is the most fun game of the week, in my opinion.
- 54:27SPEAKER_04: Baylor at the future conference opponents, uh, BYU.
- 54:32SPEAKER_04: BYU, three and a half point favorite.
- 54:34SPEAKER_04: This game is in Provo.
- 54:36SPEAKER_04: Um, this is this is fun, man.
- 54:38SPEAKER_04: BYU's really good.
- 54:39SPEAKER_04: Baylor's really good.
- 54:41SPEAKER_04: This is gonna be a fun matchup.
- 54:42SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it's uh is BYU ranked?
- 54:46SPEAKER_04: Uh yes.
- 54:47SPEAKER_04: Well, hold on.
- 54:49SPEAKER_04: They beat um they plowed whoever they played last week, like by a ton.
- 54:56SPEAKER_08: You said this is gonna be the most fun week in the Big 12 this weekend, but I mean Alabama is still gonna play Texas.
- 55:03SPEAKER_08: That's still gonna be fun to watch in a uh, you know, what's the word, in a car wreck way.
- 55:09SPEAKER_04: You know, I'd like to I mean it's not gonna be fun for Texas fans, but it's gonna be fun for everybody else.
- 55:13SPEAKER_08: Fun for the rest of us, yeah.
- 55:17SPEAKER_04: BYU is ranked 21.
- 55:19SPEAKER_04: Baylor is now up to nine in the nation.
- 55:22SPEAKER_04: So ranked ranked battle, BYU favored at home, as they should be.
- 55:26SPEAKER_04: They have a great home crowd.
- 55:28SPEAKER_08: Um, and then that crowd's gonna be milked up for this night game.
- 55:33SPEAKER_04: So much two percent is gonna be flowing through those Mormon's bloodline that they just it's gonna be great.
- 55:43SPEAKER_04: I I honest honestly, though, both these teams are awesome.
- 55:46SPEAKER_04: Um I think I think BYU is gonna take care of business at home.
- 55:50SPEAKER_04: I think they're gonna win.
- 55:51SPEAKER_04: Wow.
- 55:52SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think they're gonna win by a touchdown.
- 55:54SPEAKER_07: Dang, a touchdown.
- 55:56SPEAKER_08: There, you think they're beating the spread.
- 55:58SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I think they're beating the spread.
- 56:00SPEAKER_08: Wow.
- 56:02SPEAKER_08: I I have I have Baylor by a field goal.
- 56:04SPEAKER_08: There you go.
- 56:05SPEAKER_08: I think Baylor's gonna pull it out by a field goal.
- 56:07SPEAKER_08: I think because you know, Dave Rand has obviously proven himself to be one of the best coaches in the conference.
- 56:12SPEAKER_08: Um, and that Baylor team is looking like it's not hasn't taken a step back yet.
- 56:17SPEAKER_08: And uh Baylor got him last year, and obviously, you know, the the two teams are a little different from last year.
- 56:22SPEAKER_08: Um, obviously it wasn't Waco, but and Provo is a tough place.
- 56:26SPEAKER_08: It looks like it's looking like a tough place to go and win a win a game.
- 56:28SPEAKER_08: But yeah, I gotta give it to the Bears here.
- 56:30SPEAKER_08: Uh, I think I think the defending Big 12 champions are gonna squeak by.
- 56:34SPEAKER_08: And I think I don't think it's gonna be an embarrassing squeak by.
- 56:36SPEAKER_08: I think you know, getting out by three points is still a big victory for the Bears, and I think they're gonna go do it in Utah.
- 56:42SPEAKER_04: I haven't believed in the Baylor hype.
- 56:44SPEAKER_04: Baylor's getting Big 12 favorite hype, and uh now they deserve it 100% because Dave Rand is a great coach and they're coming off a great year.
- 56:52SPEAKER_04: Um, they lost a lot to the draft.
- 56:54SPEAKER_04: All of their receivers, all you know, they're they're running backs, they're all sophomores and uh, you know, juniors, they're not very experienced players.
- 57:03SPEAKER_04: And this is where I think BYU kind of takes advantage and gets an early season win on them.
- 57:07SPEAKER_04: Now, I'm not saying they're gonna crush Baylor, I think Baylor's a good team, but uh no, I think I think BYU's got another, I think they have a great year ahead of them.
- 57:16SPEAKER_04: So uh I'm I'm just believing in the in the Koog hype here for BY, not Houston, but for BYU.
- 57:23SPEAKER_04: Uh and I I got him, I got him beating Baylor here by a touchdown.
- 57:28SPEAKER_08: Hey, I wouldn't hate it.
- 57:29SPEAKER_08: I mean, that's just Big 12 over Big 12 play right there.
- 57:31SPEAKER_04: Yeah, no, absolutely.
- 57:33SPEAKER_04: This game makes me feel a lot better, uh, and I don't have to root for Baylor, which is cool.
- 57:37SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I will toast a 2% cold glass uh Saturday night tall glass ice cold for for the provides.
- 57:48SPEAKER_08: Are they provides?
- 57:49SPEAKER_04: They're probably provides, right?
- 57:51SPEAKER_04: Are they I would are they are they allowed to have soda that doesn't have caffeine in it, like the non-caffeine coke?
- 57:57SPEAKER_04: They can have caffeine free coke, yeah.
- 58:00SPEAKER_04: They just can't they can't have caffeine.
- 58:01SPEAKER_08: Is that the thing?
- 58:02SPEAKER_08: Yeah, I mean I I'm the resident Mormon expert here, you know.
- 58:07SPEAKER_04: The doc and tech correspondent uh for Mormonism.
- 58:12SPEAKER_04: Oh, you're trying to forgive me.
- 58:13SPEAKER_04: I swear, like no.
- 58:15SPEAKER_08: Whenever I was like just shilling for BYU to get in the Big 12 since the beginning of this podcast, everyone was probably like, is that guy Mormon or something?
- 58:22SPEAKER_07: You know, you came out of the womb being like BYU should be in the Big 12.
- 58:27SPEAKER_07: That was my sentence.
- 58:29SPEAKER_07: That was your first sentence, and they're like, the Big 12's been around for a year, son.
- 58:33SPEAKER_07: Yeah, son.
- 58:35SPEAKER_07: I don't know what you're talking about.
- 58:36SPEAKER_07: I didn't know Big 13.
- 58:38SPEAKER_07: What do you want from me?
- 58:42SPEAKER_08: Don't let Texas have the longhorn network at any cost as well.
- 58:45SPEAKER_04: Any cost, try please.
- 58:47SPEAKER_04: No way.
- 58:48SPEAKER_04: Actually, everyone will leave.
- 58:50SPEAKER_04: Actually, they end up leaving, so that's uh that's kind of cool.
- 58:54SPEAKER_04: Um, but no, man.
- 58:56SPEAKER_04: I I it this is gonna be I'm gonna be glued to the TV.
- 58:59SPEAKER_04: Um, because I wasn't able to be glued to the TV.
- 59:02SPEAKER_04: Thank you very much for that.
- 59:04SPEAKER_04: Uh last week.
- 59:05SPEAKER_04: Um, you're very welcome.
- 59:07SPEAKER_04: There's there's a great picture uh that my fiance posted on her Instagram of us throwing up the the phone during the speeches.
- 59:16SPEAKER_07: Yes.
- 59:17SPEAKER_04: Uh, and it was, you know, Logan kept the volume on, and then there that was during the speeches.
- 59:23SPEAKER_04: That's a dick move.
- 59:25SPEAKER_04: Your now father-in-law was giving his was giving his speech, and you could hear the slight sound coming from the phone, and I was I like went to it real quick and turned it off.
- 59:36SPEAKER_08: That's a dick move.
- 59:38SPEAKER_04: I cannot believe y'all were doing that.
- 59:40SPEAKER_04: He didn't move, he didn't even flinch, and I was like, dude, everybody can hear it, everybody's silent right now, except for Andy's dad giving the speech, and you didn't do anything about the game being on.
- 59:51SPEAKER_08: That's hilarious.
- 59:52SPEAKER_08: Yeah, um, it was funny because he was like ripping on the Big 12, too, in that speech, and then LCU lost to bum ass Florida State.
- 59:59SPEAKER_08: That was pretty funny.
- 1:00:00SPEAKER_08: Yeah, the next easy big LCU fan for context.
- 1:00:04SPEAKER_08: So that was pretty funny.
- 1:00:06SPEAKER_04: That LSU game was I it was comedy, it was hilarious.
- 1:00:11SPEAKER_04: Watching that uh the final minutes, just the nightmare that it was for both teams, really.
- 1:00:19SPEAKER_04: Uh Florida State and LSU.
- 1:00:21SPEAKER_04: Uh it was great.
- 1:00:22SPEAKER_04: It was wonderful.
- 1:00:23SPEAKER_04: It was wonderful to see.
- 1:00:24SPEAKER_04: You loved seeing the big brand stink.
- 1:00:26SPEAKER_04: Yeah, it was.
- 1:00:27SPEAKER_04: It was what college football was all about, though.
- 1:00:29SPEAKER_04: Absolutely, loved it.
- 1:00:32SPEAKER_04: Absolutely loved it.
- 1:00:33SPEAKER_04: Well, again, Texas Tech, let's kick some coup ass this weekend.
- 1:00:38SPEAKER_04: Some coup ass.
- 1:00:40SPEAKER_04: I'm excited.
- 1:00:41SPEAKER_04: I am excited to see the first real test for Joey and Zach Hitley and Tim DeRooter and to see how we respond.
- 1:00:48SPEAKER_04: Uh, hopefully we clean some of these things up in the secondary.
- 1:00:51SPEAKER_04: And um, you know, just excited to see us play a pretty a pretty darn good team in Houston.
- 1:00:56SPEAKER_04: So I will be glued to the TV, much like the rest of you.
- 1:00:59SPEAKER_04: Uh, we're excited, but let's get into song of the week and finish this off here.
- 1:01:03SPEAKER_04: Tristan, what you got for your song of the week?
- 1:01:07SPEAKER_08: You know, this this week was tough, you know.
- 1:01:10SPEAKER_08: Uh not a whole lot of songs are really um sticking out to me this week.
- 1:01:15SPEAKER_08: So I think I'm gonna support do a little girl power.
- 1:01:18SPEAKER_08: You know, yeah, she's in she's in Nashville, um, but she's still she's a rock star, she's awesome.
- 1:01:24SPEAKER_08: I'm going with Ashley McBride to one night standards.
- 1:01:28SPEAKER_08: It just, dude, I it's so catchy, and it's a great written song.
- 1:01:32SPEAKER_08: You know, it's about uh, you know, obviously jaded lovers who are just trying to feel something from strangers.
- 1:01:37SPEAKER_08: And dude, I it's just classic country vibes with that.
- 1:01:40SPEAKER_08: And I think it's just a great song, and I think she's a great artist, you know.
- 1:01:43SPEAKER_08: She's just just purely talent.
- 1:01:44SPEAKER_08: It's not like she got there from glitz and glam, that's for sure.
- 1:01:48SPEAKER_06: King Bad covered in a rose is just a room without a view.
- 1:01:57SPEAKER_06: I don't want a number you ain't gonna answer.
- 1:02:00SPEAKER_06: Let's just stick to the one that standards.
- 1:02:04SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 1:02:05SPEAKER_04: There you go.
- 1:02:06SPEAKER_04: Uh, another good uh country artist uh recommendation from you.
- 1:02:12SPEAKER_04: I am doing another throwback song from our days, as uh I don't know when the song probably came out when we were in, I don't know, maybe elementary school to middle school, jammed out to it all the time.
- 1:02:24SPEAKER_04: Everybody knows it.
- 1:02:25SPEAKER_04: It's my boy Akon.
- 1:02:27SPEAKER_04: Love Akon.
- 1:02:28SPEAKER_08: Uh that's a sentence that's said all the time in the year 2022.
- 1:02:33SPEAKER_04: Everybody loves Akon.
- 1:02:34SPEAKER_04: When an Akon song pops on, the people know, and the people will sing to it.
- 1:02:39SPEAKER_04: My Akon song is uh Don't Matter.
- 1:02:42SPEAKER_04: Great song, great vibe.
- 1:02:44SPEAKER_04: Just just a pop, a classic pop from Akon.
- 1:02:47SPEAKER_04: Uh that was Don't Matter.
- 1:02:50SPEAKER_06: Nobody wanna see us together, but it don't matter.
- 1:02:57SPEAKER_06: Nobody wanna see us together, but it don't matter.
- 1:03:03SPEAKER_08: Is that the one where it goes, Well, it don't matter no?
- 1:03:07SPEAKER_08: You nailed it back at you.
- 1:03:08SPEAKER_08: Is that that song?
- 1:03:09SPEAKER_04: You nailed it.
- 1:03:10SPEAKER_04: You that's perfect.
- 1:03:11SPEAKER_04: You're real right now.
- 1:03:13SPEAKER_04: I'm for real right now.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: I love that song.
- 1:03:14SPEAKER_04: You don't like that song?
- 1:03:17SPEAKER_07: Just me?
- 1:03:18SPEAKER_07: You're telling me you're not gonna go and turn on that song right now.
- 1:03:22SPEAKER_07: The pe the people like that song, okay?
- 1:03:25SPEAKER_08: All right, this was truly a mix this week.
- 1:03:30SPEAKER_08: This this one, the song of the week segment was different.
- 1:03:32SPEAKER_04: Yeah, we always too.
- 1:03:34SPEAKER_04: We don't want to we don't want to just give the same songs.
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_04: What are we doing here?
- 1:03:36SPEAKER_04: Come on.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_04: No, of course not.
- 1:03:37SPEAKER_04: I'm not saying that, but this is the song of the week is about some variety.
- 1:03:41SPEAKER_08: I guess take up there I just think a few people are this into acon.
- 1:03:46SPEAKER_08: I I think you overplay how popular the guy was.
- 1:03:48SPEAKER_04: Icon was very popular at his peak.
- 1:03:51SPEAKER_07: He was.
- 1:03:52SPEAKER_07: I know he was, but you really play it up in the year in the in this decade.
- 1:03:57SPEAKER_04: No, I still like Akon, whatever.
- 1:04:01SPEAKER_04: Sue me.
- 1:04:02SPEAKER_04: I like Akon.
- 1:04:05SPEAKER_07: Bring back auto to new stuff, or you only care about his old stuff.
- 1:04:08SPEAKER_07: I don't even think you're a real fan.
- 1:04:10SPEAKER_04: Yeah, I I don't, I haven't heard one new Akon song since I was 12.
- 1:04:16SPEAKER_07: So it's really stuck with you since you were a preacher.
- 1:04:19SPEAKER_04: It has, he's got some bops.
- 1:04:21SPEAKER_04: Stop it.
- 1:04:22SPEAKER_04: Akon rocks, get out, respond.
- 1:04:25SPEAKER_04: I'm gonna put out a poll.
