- 0:00Speaker 1: Toby and Chili Mornings on Demand on ninety seven point one.
- 0:04Speaker 2: Chef out, It's Monday, Monday. Everybody works on Monday.
- 0:08Speaker 3: Hi.
- 0:09Speaker 2: There, we're Toby and Chile in the morning. It's ninety
- 0:11Speaker 2: seven point one. Was Chef m ready to start a
- 0:14Speaker 2: brand new week in the nation's capital with you. Why
- 0:17Speaker 2: are you feeling good this morning? It's not a hypothetical question.
- 0:22Speaker 2: I know it's Wednesday morning and asking why you're feeling
- 0:25Speaker 2: joy when you have to get back into the grind
- 0:27Speaker 2: is not always easy, but there's got to be something
- 0:30Speaker 2: eight sixty six, nineteen seven forty three sixty one. So
- 0:32Speaker 2: tell us what it is. Chilly, You're feeling good this morning?
- 0:35Speaker 2: After the weekend.
- 0:36Speaker 4: Yeah, we went to the pool yesterday. The pool, it
- 0:39Speaker 4: was a break in the whole rain gimmick. Oh wait, rain,
- 0:42Speaker 4: no over the weekend, I know, but yesterday was hot
- 0:45Speaker 4: and it was a good pool.
- 0:47Speaker 5: Don't get out of the pool day.
- 0:48Speaker 4: And you know, as the weeks are winding down and
- 0:50Speaker 4: we're getting closer to the closure of the pool, it's
- 0:53Speaker 4: nice to get in a day or two. So that's
- 0:55Speaker 4: why I'm here.
- 0:55Speaker 2: Yeah, I'm feeling great because this was another weekend that
- 0:58Speaker 2: was just relaxed and I finished laundry. It's like I,
- 1:03Speaker 2: you know, I use the weekends now to kind of
- 1:05Speaker 2: hit a life reset, which I think is good for
- 1:10Speaker 2: me because I never used to do it. And I
- 1:12Speaker 2: guess maybe in growing up, I've learned that, you know it,
- 1:16Speaker 2: there are times when you need to just breathe and
- 1:19Speaker 2: take a reset. It's like what you did by the
- 1:21Speaker 2: pool yesterday, That's what I did this weekend. I just
- 1:23Speaker 2: kind of breathe, take a reset. I didn't worry about
- 1:27Speaker 2: being perfect because it's the weekend, and you know what
- 1:30Speaker 2: it applies to today.
- 1:32Speaker 6: Today's not asking us to be perfect.
- 1:33Speaker 2: It's just asking us to bring ourselves and the best
- 1:37Speaker 2: we can do and the best that we can be
- 1:39Speaker 2: to a brand new week. And that's kind of where
- 1:41Speaker 2: I am, and the weekend set my head for that.
- 1:43Speaker 4: It's nice.
- 1:44Speaker 6: How about you?
- 1:45Speaker 2: You know where to find us, and also tap that
- 1:47Speaker 2: talk back microphone if you want to. In the meantime,
- 1:49Speaker 2: we've got top stories at the top of the hour.
- 1:51Speaker 2: Your first look for this brand new week, Chili. What
- 1:53Speaker 2: can we expect?
- 1:54Speaker 4: Here's a warning to parents who are traveling with their
- 1:58Speaker 4: little ones. There is a tea yes, a rule now
- 2:01Speaker 4: that is bringing kids to tears at security checkpoints.
- 2:06Speaker 5: I'll tell you why in just a few.
- 2:10Speaker 7: Top stories Top of the Hour.
- 2:13Speaker 4: Israel is formally rejecting the President's Gaza peace plan, with
- 2:17Speaker 4: Benjamin netanyahuo demanding Hamas fully demilitarized before any troop withdrawal. Meanwhile,
- 2:24Speaker 4: Iran is setting its own conditions for reopening the Strait
- 2:28Speaker 4: of Hormuz, calling for the US to lift its blockade
- 2:32Speaker 4: and pull troops from the region. Well, the Pentagon released
- 2:36Speaker 4: forty one new UFO files, including a military pilot's account
- 2:40Speaker 4: of a massive silent triangle that was blocking out the
- 2:43Speaker 4: stars over Afghanistan back in two thousand and two and
- 2:48Speaker 4: video of unresolved sightings over the Gulf of Oman. It's
- 2:52Speaker 4: the fifth release under the President's executive order. Metro Transit
- 2:57Speaker 4: police are searching for a man who's accused of repeating
- 3:00Speaker 4: punching a metro bus driver in Montgomery County after he
- 3:04Speaker 4: was told he couldn't bring an open alcoholic drink on board.
- 3:07Speaker 4: The union says the bus's partial protective shield did nothing
- 3:13Speaker 4: to stop that attack. Washington Commander's left tackle Laramie Ton
- 3:17Speaker 4: Souls expected to miss most of the season and needs
- 3:21Speaker 4: surgery after tearing his triceps in Saturday's practice. The team
- 3:25Speaker 4: will now look at other options like Josh Connery Junior
- 3:29Speaker 4: or Brandon Coleman to fill the crucial blind side spot.
- 3:34Speaker 4: And a little known TSA rule is bringing kids to tears.
- 3:37Speaker 4: At security checkpoints, officers are confiscating the popular Needo squishy
- 3:44Speaker 4: toy from carry ons because their gel filling actually counts
- 3:47Speaker 4: as a liquid cap to three point four ounces. Parents
- 3:51Speaker 4: are being told to pack the toy in their checked bags.
- 3:55Speaker 4: Forecasts for today partly cloudy with isolated storms today. Highs
- 3:59Speaker 4: around ninety four right now seventy two in Tyson's all.
- 4:02Speaker 2: Right, there you go with the news top stories at
- 4:04Speaker 2: the top of the hour. This is ninety seven point
- 4:06Speaker 2: one Wash FM. Good morning, nice to meet you for
- 4:09Speaker 2: the first time. If we are Toby Napp and that's
- 4:11Speaker 2: Chilliamar and you found us here, we're Toby and Chilly
- 4:14Speaker 2: in the morning and in just a few minutes, we
- 4:15Speaker 2: want to know how you're doing your morning mindset. There's
- 4:19Speaker 2: some words that you know, somebody said once upon a
- 4:22Speaker 2: time and they've resonated and they mean something and they
- 4:25Speaker 2: might help you to have a better day, set up
- 4:27Speaker 2: a great week, or they could turn some drama from
- 4:30Speaker 2: the weekend around. You'll hear what that offering is for
- 4:35Speaker 2: you and for your consideration in a few variety and
- 4:41Speaker 2: lots of it from the eighties, nineties and today ninety
- 4:44Speaker 2: seven point one Wash FM. Good morning, Toby and Tilly
- 4:47Speaker 2: in the morning. How you doing right about now?
- 4:50Speaker 4: If you're not doing well, sorry about that joke. We've
- 4:53Speaker 4: got a morning mindset for you. This is where we
- 4:55Speaker 4: share a quote to get you into a good headspace,
- 4:58Speaker 4: especially on a Monday as we started work week.
- 5:00Speaker 2: And your morning mindset go is a little bit like
- 5:02Speaker 2: this from Brene Brown today on this new Monday. Choose
- 5:07Speaker 2: courage over comfort. You know, sometimes just getting out of
- 5:10Speaker 2: bed on a day like Monday takes a lot of courage,
- 5:14Speaker 2: and sometimes it's not comfortable. Life itself is not always comfortable.
- 5:21Speaker 2: Comfortable choices, I think they keep life to a degree predictable,
- 5:28Speaker 2: But courageous choices make life meaningful. So let me ask
- 5:32Speaker 2: you this question, knowing what Brene Brown has just said,
- 5:35Speaker 2: choose courage over comfort? Which do you choose comfort predictability
- 5:42Speaker 2: or do you choose to live with courage and make
- 5:45Speaker 2: what you do today tomorrow, your life meaningful. That's your choice.
- 5:52Speaker 2: But I would listen to Brene Brown choose courage over comfort.
- 5:57Speaker 2: That is your mourning mindset for this Monday morning. I
- 6:01Speaker 2: hope it helps and if you need it, you can
- 6:03Speaker 2: find it. It's in our instan stories right now, also
- 6:06Speaker 2: Facebook stories, Toby and Chillipage at washfm dot com. If
- 6:09Speaker 2: you'd like us to email it to you, we'd be
- 6:11Speaker 2: happy to do so. Just let us know you need it.
- 6:14Speaker 2: In the meantime, hang out for a few minutes.
- 6:16Speaker 4: Because some behaviors can instantly ruin a couple's first romantic getaway.
- 6:21Speaker 4: Oh well, a new survey reveals the biggest X and
- 6:26Speaker 4: you'll hear what they are in minutes.
- 6:29Speaker 2: Oh, it's gonna be a great romantic vacation just you
- 6:33Speaker 2: and your partner. Ninety seven point one watch FM Toby
- 6:36Speaker 2: and Chilly.
- 6:37Speaker 8: In the morning.
- 6:37Speaker 2: And then long comes the Yucca X, the X that
- 6:42Speaker 2: ruin that couple's trip. Paradise not so much, let's talk.
- 6:47Speaker 4: It's actually the very first trip that you take with somebody.
- 6:50Speaker 4: Because almost ninety percent of people think that first vacation
- 6:53Speaker 4: can make or break a romance. And then they went
- 6:56Speaker 4: on to talk about some of the biggest ix that
- 6:59Speaker 4: can take place, like when your partner collaps after the
- 7:03Speaker 4: plane lands.
- 7:04Speaker 6: Yeah, that's corny.
- 7:05Speaker 4: That's the biggest nick. Somebody who takes the picture of
- 7:08Speaker 4: every single meal for social.
- 7:09Speaker 6: Media with and if that's annoying.
- 7:12Speaker 4: Refusing to leave bed until the afternoon, you know, because
- 7:15Speaker 4: some people like to get up and do things.
- 7:16Speaker 2: That's my significant other, meaning I can do the noon
- 7:19Speaker 2: thing if I need to in bed, but you know
- 7:21Speaker 2: what you sleep in But no, I will say this,
- 7:23Speaker 2: This is how I know there's something with my significant other.
- 7:26Speaker 2: She gets me up, but she respects that. You know,
- 7:30Speaker 2: we work the schedule we work, and so she'll let
- 7:32Speaker 2: me sleep to a degree, but she will not let
- 7:34Speaker 2: me waste the day.
- 7:35Speaker 6: And that includes morning hours.
- 7:37Speaker 4: As you know, dominating the dining itinerary like you're the
- 7:42Speaker 4: only one of you makes all the decisions like that
- 7:44Speaker 4: could give somebody the ick. And also every vacation should
- 7:47Speaker 4: include relaxing. But the itck happens when somebody isn't willing
- 7:50Speaker 4: to get up and do anything besides going to the
- 7:53Speaker 4: pool or the beach and back to the hotel.
- 7:55Speaker 5: So you got to have a little bit of adventure
- 7:58Speaker 5: in you.
- 7:58Speaker 6: Look.
- 7:58Speaker 4: Yeah, I have not had any ICKX with my husband
- 8:02Speaker 4: in traveling with him. But if I were to pick
- 8:05Speaker 4: one of these, for sure, if it was somebody who
- 8:09Speaker 4: wouldn't do anything until the afternoon, like a whole.
- 8:12Speaker 5: Day has gone by.
- 8:13Speaker 4: We spent how much money on this trip for you
- 8:15Speaker 4: to sleep the whole time?
- 8:16Speaker 5: No, thank you? Like that would be a big ick
- 8:18Speaker 5: for me.
- 8:19Speaker 2: I think if I were to choose one, it might
- 8:21Speaker 2: be the whole dominating the dining itinerary. Oh okay, you know,
- 8:25Speaker 2: like if you've made all of the choices and decisions,
- 8:28Speaker 2: didn't ask me, but you said, well, we're going to
- 8:30Speaker 2: go to this place first. In this place first, I'm
- 8:32Speaker 2: gonna be like, well, you know what, no offense to
- 8:34Speaker 2: Indian food. But I was not thinking about curry on
- 8:37Speaker 2: my first night in Paradise. But that's the good thing
- 8:41Speaker 2: about this trip being your first couple's trip, if that's
- 8:44Speaker 2: the world we're operating in, because you'll see signs very
- 8:48Speaker 2: quickly you get to know somebody really, really well when
- 8:52Speaker 2: you start traveling with them. You can see the entire
- 8:54Speaker 2: list of these icks that ruin couples trips. We've got
- 8:58Speaker 2: to covered on until we chilipagetwashfm dot com and in

- 10:47Speaker 4: determine the cause of death. Two men are under arrest
- 10:51Speaker 4: for a gold bar scam targeting an eighty five year
- 10:54Speaker 4: old DC resident. Fake federal agents told him his bank

- 12:24Speaker 2: will be there in just a minute. She's in Potomac.
- 12:26Speaker 2: She has a question for us this morning, Chili that
- 12:29Speaker 2: involves parenting and honesty.
- 12:32Speaker 6: Oh okay, it is a white lie.
- 12:34Speaker 2: Okay in parenting, yes, no, maybe, so we'll hear Alexis's
- 12:41Speaker 2: plights coming up with Toby and Chilly in the morning.
- 12:44Speaker 2: It is ninety seven point one wash FM. One of
- 12:46Speaker 2: the coolest parts of this job, at least to me,
- 12:48Speaker 2: is when you ask us to help intervene in something
- 12:51Speaker 2: that's going on. Sometimes you need a little bit of therapy.
- 12:54Speaker 2: We're happy to help, although we're not licensed. And sometimes
- 12:57Speaker 2: you need to walk yourself off the ledge because you're
- 13:00Speaker 2: feeling like you might be some sort of jerk over something.
- 13:04Speaker 2: And well that's where we find ourselves this morning.
- 13:07Speaker 4: So now we're joined by Alexis, who's listening to us
- 13:10Speaker 4: in Potomac.
- 13:11Speaker 6: Good morning, Good morning.
- 13:12Speaker 5: So what's this parenting dilemma you're having.
- 13:15Speaker 3: Well, here's the thing. I love roller coasters. I love
- 13:19Speaker 3: the thrill rides at the theme park with my husband
- 13:22Speaker 3: and my son. And my son is eight years old,
- 13:25Speaker 3: and my husband really doesn't like roller coasters, and my
- 13:27Speaker 3: son's always been scared of them.
- 13:29Speaker 6: So then what's the problem.
- 13:31Speaker 3: So I may have lied to him and tricked my
- 13:36Speaker 3: eight year old onto a scary ride.
- 13:38Speaker 5: Tricked your son, how though I told him.
- 13:41Speaker 3: It wasn't scary. I was like, hey, it doesn't have
- 13:43Speaker 3: any like free fall, is there anything crazy?
- 13:45Speaker 9: It doesn't go that best?
- 13:46Speaker 5: And it did.
- 13:48Speaker 3: It did all those things. And really I wasn't trying
- 13:51Speaker 3: to just like torture the kid. I really want him
- 13:53Speaker 3: to like enjoy them like I do, and I think
- 13:56Speaker 3: he will once he, you know, rides one.
- 13:58Speaker 9: So I figured I would do that.
- 14:00Speaker 4: Intentionally, mislead him, you mean, lie to him. So did
- 14:03Speaker 4: your son enjoy the ride?
- 14:05Speaker 3: It did scare him a little bit, just a little
- 14:08Speaker 3: bit to my husband's saying I'm a jerk Chilli.
- 14:12Speaker 4: That approach would not have worked with my son because
- 14:15Speaker 4: then he would never believe me.
- 14:17Speaker 2: Ever, again, I'm not gonna judge you and tell you
- 14:19Speaker 2: how to parent's your kid, but I do know this much.
- 14:22Speaker 2: There are some kids who do need a push, you know.
- 14:25Speaker 2: But a push is much different than lying to them,
- 14:29Speaker 2: because now the kid's going to be like, I've got
- 14:31Speaker 2: a parent that told me something that wasn't true, to
- 14:33Speaker 2: push me to do something I didn't want to do,
- 14:36Speaker 2: And what's that going to mean when the kid is sixteen?
- 14:39Speaker 4: Lucky for you, there, Alexis, we've got a lot of
- 14:41Speaker 4: parents who are listening and maybe they've got some thoughts
- 14:44Speaker 4: on whether what you did was okay yep.
- 14:48Speaker 2: Eight sixty six nine two seven forty three sixty one.
- 14:50Speaker 2: And we might even have like a parental psychologist or
- 14:53Speaker 2: psychiatrist or therapist listening that might have some thoughts to offer.
- 14:58Speaker 2: Give us a call. If you do all right, Alexis,
- 15:01Speaker 2: We're gonna put it to the class. Are you okay
- 15:03Speaker 2: with that?
- 15:03Speaker 9: Absolutely? Thank you so much.
- 15:05Speaker 2: All right thoughts for Alexis. Talkback microphones wide open. If
- 15:08Speaker 2: you're signed in listening on your I heart app, tap
- 15:10Speaker 2: the mic, speak your truth and send it to us,
- 15:13Speaker 2: or give us a call. We're talking about this parental
- 15:17Speaker 2: dilemma coming up.
- 15:18Speaker 6: Speak out.
- 15:19Speaker 2: Eight sixty six nine two seven forty three sixty one
- 15:22Speaker 2: is the number. And if you're listening to Toby and
- 15:24Speaker 2: Tilly in the morning on your talkback microphone there in
- 15:27Speaker 2: your ihart app and you're signed in, you can tap it,
- 15:30Speaker 2: speak your thoughts and send them to us right here
- 15:33Speaker 2: in our studios at ninety seven point one.
- 15:35Speaker 6: Watch FM.
- 15:36Speaker 2: Alexis from Potomac is having a bit of a crisis
- 15:40Speaker 2: this morning, a dilemma. Her hubs thinks she might be
- 15:43Speaker 2: some sort of a jerk.
- 15:44Speaker 4: Basically, she lied to her son before they went on
- 15:47Speaker 4: a roller coaster and said it wasn't scary, but it
- 15:50Speaker 4: was an intense roller coaster and he got very scared.
- 15:54Speaker 2: Katie, thank you for listening to us this morning in Shirlington.
- 15:57Speaker 2: Is she a jerk and in the wrong for that?
- 16:00Speaker 9: No?
- 16:01Speaker 5: I don't think so.
- 16:02Speaker 3: Sometimes you have to trick the kid into doing it.
- 16:05Speaker 3: Some people might disagree.
- 16:06Speaker 4: Is you're thinking that, you know, once a child tries
- 16:10Speaker 4: something scary, they'll be brave enough to keep doing other things.
- 16:14Speaker 3: Yeah, I mean kids will say no before they've even
- 16:17Speaker 3: tried something.
- 16:18Speaker 5: You know, you're like, oh, do you like whatever? You know?
- 16:20Speaker 5: Do you like peas?
- 16:21Speaker 3: Now we'll have you tried peace aboard Now you know
- 16:24Speaker 3: it's like a roller coaster.
- 16:26Speaker 4: Eating peas and riding a roller coaster, though we're not
- 16:29Speaker 4: quite the same thing.
- 16:30Speaker 3: Sometimes you gotta bend the truth a little bit so
- 16:32Speaker 3: that they'll take that first up.
- 16:34Speaker 2: I just love that whole ben the truth thing, which
- 16:36Speaker 2: your kids doesn't add up to me. But thank you
- 16:39Speaker 2: for your thoughts this morning.
- 16:41Speaker 5: Thank you.
- 16:42Speaker 6: Let's say good morning to Tommy from DC.
- 16:44Speaker 4: Now you think Alexis is being a jerk, for lying.
- 16:47Speaker 8: Why that's how you train your kid not to trust you.
- 16:51Speaker 6: Come on, it's just a little I lie on her.
- 16:53Speaker 8: It's not like roller coasters or something that kid needs
- 16:56Speaker 8: to do to get by in life. You know.
- 16:58Speaker 5: Yeah, how is she going to convey him to do
- 17:00Speaker 5: things that really matter?

- 22:29Speaker 8: The missus like to look at her phone and night,

- 23:22Speaker 2: we have a story that we think might just make
- 23:25Speaker 2: your Monday.
- 23:25Speaker 4: You know, job descriptions don't tell you everything. That's why
- 23:29Speaker 4: a Fairfax County student built an app that does.
- 23:34Speaker 2: It's always good to start the new week on a
- 23:36Speaker 2: positive note. Here's something that we think might just make
- 23:39Speaker 2: your Monday. Here at ninety seven point one wash FM
- 23:41Speaker 2: Toby and Chilly in the Morning. Navias outagious. She lives
- 23:44Speaker 2: in Fairfax County and while growing up, she watched her
- 23:47Speaker 2: mom's struggle at work.
- 23:49Speaker 6: Mom is hard of hearing.
- 23:51Speaker 2: The disability wasn't something that people could see, so she
- 23:55Speaker 2: never got the accommodations that she needed and that really
- 23:59Speaker 2: stuck with Navia.
- 24:00Speaker 4: And once she got to Thomas Jefferson High School for
- 24:02Speaker 4: Science and Technology, she started to notice the same pattern
- 24:05Speaker 4: with her classmates. Kids whose brains just work a little
- 24:07Speaker 4: differently were overlooked because her challenges weren't obvious either.
- 24:12Speaker 2: So as she was becoming a senior, she decided to
- 24:14Speaker 2: build something about it. It's called Raha that's Hindi for path,
- 24:20Speaker 2: and it's a free AI tool designed to help neurodivergent
- 24:24Speaker 2: job seekers figure out if a job is actually going
- 24:27Speaker 2: to work out for them before they accept the job.
- 24:30Speaker 4: All the user does is past in a job description,
- 24:33Speaker 4: then they take a quick work style quiz and claud Ai,
- 24:38Speaker 4: guided by a prompt that Navia built with neurodiversity specialists,
- 24:42Speaker 4: scores things like the pace of the job, the structure,
- 24:45Speaker 4: and also the communication style to flag whether that environment
- 24:49Speaker 4: is a good match for the person who's applying.
- 24:51Speaker 2: Now it's only been live for about a month, but
- 24:54Speaker 2: already more than two hundred people have used it. One
- 24:57Speaker 2: user with ADHD said it helped them to figure out
- 25:00Speaker 2: whether or not a computer science job was really the
- 25:02Speaker 2: right fit. And now it's web only, but soon, Navia
- 25:06Speaker 2: says an app is on the way.
- 25:09Speaker 4: Well, thank you so much Navia for turning a problem
- 25:12Speaker 4: into something very helpful for neurodivergent job seekers. And it's
- 25:16Speaker 4: a story that definitely made our Monday.
