- 0:03Welcome to the Voices of Life podcast, a ministry
- 0:09of the Church for Life. We're honored to walk
- 0:13with you on this journey of faith, hope, and
- 0:16purpose. Each episode is created to inspire your
- 0:21spirit and strengthen your daily walk with God.
- 0:27And now, here is your host. Pastor David. Welcome
- 0:37to the Voices of Life podcast, a ministry of
- 0:40the Church for Life. I'm Pastor David. And today
- 0:43we begin our two -part journey into the ministry
- 0:46of presence, the quiet, steady, faithful nearness
- 0:50of God in the ordinary days of our lives. This
- 0:56session is dedicated to quiet places. The still
- 1:01places, the moments where God speaks softly,
- 1:04yet unmistakably. We live in a world that celebrates
- 1:09noise, speed, and constant motion. But the presence
- 1:15of God often arrives in a different rhythm. A
- 1:19slower one, a gentler one, a quieter one. Psalm
- 1:2446, verse 10 says, That I'm God. Not rush. Not
- 1:35strive. Not perform. Be still. And know. Stillness
- 1:43is not inactivity. Stillness is awareness. Stillness
- 1:48is attention. Stillness is the posture of a heart
- 1:54that says, Lord, I am here. And you are here.
- 2:00And that is enough. I'm sure you've heard the
- 2:03saying, well, I heard you, but I didn't hear
- 2:06you. Same kind of thing. So today we begin by
- 2:11slowing our breathing, quieting our thoughts,
- 2:14and remembering that God who created the heavens
- 2:19and the earth is present with us right now. In
- 2:25the quiet, God reveals his character. In the
- 2:29quiet, God restores our soul. In the quiet, God
- 2:36reminds us who we are. The ministry of presence
- 2:41begins with the ministry of stillness. Throughout
- 2:49scripture, God meets his people in quiet places.
- 2:55Not always in fire, not always in... The earthquake,
- 2:59and not always in a whirlwind, but the still,
- 3:03small voice. 1 Kings 19 verses 12 says, And after
- 3:15the earthquake, a fire. But the Lord was not
- 3:19the fire. And after the fire, a still, small
- 3:24voice. Elijah was exhausted. Elijah was overwhelmed.
- 3:32He was afraid. And God did not shout at him.
- 3:37God whispered. The whisper of God is not a sign
- 3:43of his distance. It's a sign of his nearness.
- 3:47You whisper to those who are close. In the quiet,
- 3:52God draws near. In the quiet, God heals. In the
- 4:00quiet, God strengthens. Quiet is not empty. Quiet
- 4:07is formative. Quiet is where God shapes the inner
- 4:11life. Jesus himself sought quiet places. In Luke
- 4:165, verse 16 of modern translation, it says, Jesus
- 4:21often withdrew to lonely places. If the Son of
- 4:27God needed quiet, how much more do we? Quiet
- 4:35is not a luxury. Quiet is a necessity. Quiet
- 4:39is where the soul breathes again. In the quiet,
- 4:44God forms humility. In quiet, God forms gratitude.
- 4:51He forms clarity. And he forms courage. The ministry
- 4:57of presence begins with the ministry of formation.
- 5:02God shaping us from the inside out. I want to
- 5:08share a simple story, not dramatic and not sensational,
- 5:12but deeply true. A woman once told me that the
- 5:17moment she felt God most clearly was not in a
- 5:21church service. Not in a conference. Not in a
- 5:26miracle moment. But in her kitchen. Early in
- 5:31the morning. Before anyone else was awake. She
- 5:36said, Pastor, I was washing dishes. And I suddenly
- 5:40felt the Lord's peace settle over me. Like a
- 5:44blanket. No music, no sermon, no noise. Just
- 5:48Him. That. God meeting us in the ordinary. God
- 5:57meeting us in the quiet. Sometimes the holiest
- 6:01moments are the simplest ones. Sometimes the
- 6:06most sacred spaces are the ones no one else sees.
- 6:13As we move deeper, I want to guide you into a
- 6:19moment of quiet reflection. Wherever you are,
- 6:24sitting, walking, resting, take in a slow breath.
- 6:29Let your shoulders relax. Let your mind settle.
- 6:33Let your heart open. Psalm 131 verse 2 says,
- 6:40Surely I have behaved and quieted myself as a
- 6:46child that is weaned from his mother. My soul
- 6:51is even as weaned child. A weaned child is not
- 6:58anxious. A weaned child is not striving. A weaned
- 7:03child rests in the presence of the one who loves
- 7:08them. In this moment, let your soul rest. Let
- 7:14your soul quiet. Let your soul breathe. God is
- 7:19here. God is near, and God is present. In this
- 7:27next segment, we're going to explore how God's
- 7:30presence in the quiet becomes the foundation
- 7:33for discernment. How we learn to hear his voice,
- 7:38recognize his leading, and walk in his peace.
- 7:43But for now, stay in this moment. Stay in this
- 7:48quiet. Stay in this present. God's presence in
- 7:57the quiet. Learning to hear his voice. That's
- 8:01what we're going to be speaking about now. Learning
- 8:04to hear his voice. So we take the quiet itself
- 8:08and let's move to what the quiet makes possible.
- 8:13The ability to hear the voice of God with clarity,
- 8:17tenderness, and confidence. Hearing God is not
- 8:23about volume. It is about nearness. It is about
- 8:29attention. It is about relationship. The ministry
- 8:34of presence begins with the ministry of listening.
- 8:39As I said earlier, There's a difference between
- 8:43saying, I heard you and I hear you. So you have
- 8:49to practice that ministry of listening so that
- 8:54you're understanding what is actually being transmitted
- 8:56to you. In the noise of life, many voices compete
- 9:05for our attention. But in the quiet, the voice
- 9:08of God becomes distinguishable. recognizable,
- 9:11and familiar. Jesus said in John 10, verse 27,
- 9:17My sheep listen to my voice. I know them, and
- 9:24they follow me. Notice the order. Listening comes
- 9:30before following. Presence comes before direction.
- 9:35We do not follow God because we figured him out.
- 9:40We follow him because we have learned to recognize
- 9:45his voice and recognize, well, recognition is
- 9:53formed in the quiet. That's how we recognize.
- 9:57Many people imagine God's voice is harsh and
- 10:00demanding or distant. But scripture paints a
- 10:04very different picture. In Isaiah 30 verse 21,
- 10:11And thine ears shall hear a word behind thee,
- 10:15saying, This is the way, walk ye in it. A word
- 10:23behind you, not in front of you shouting, not
- 10:26above you condemning, behind you, close, gentle,
- 10:31and guiding. The tone of God's voice is steady.
- 10:35The tone of God's voice is kind and patient.
- 10:41In the quiet, we learn that God's voice does
- 10:45not push us. It leads us. When we have the quiet,
- 10:52it removes the distractions. That's one of the
- 10:56greatest obstacles to hear God is not his silence.
- 11:00It is our distractions. We are surrounded by
- 11:05constant noise, digital noise, emotional noise,
- 11:08relational noise. Internal noise. Quiet is not
- 11:13the absence of sound. Quiet is the absence of
- 11:17competing voices. Quiet is where the soul finally
- 11:22says, Lord, speak. I am listening. Samuel 3,
- 11:30verse 10 says, Speak, for thy servant heareth.
- 11:36This is the posture of listening heart. Not rushing,
- 11:41not demanding, not performing, but listening.
- 11:48You know, quiet reveals what is already true.
- 11:52Sometimes the quiet does not bring new information.
- 11:57Sometimes the quiet simply reveals what God has
- 12:00been saying all along. God often speaks through
- 12:04his word, his spirit, his peace, his people,
- 12:09his creation, and the circumstances of our lives.
- 12:15But we only notice these things when we slow
- 12:19down long enough to see them. Quiet is not where
- 12:24God finally speaks. Quiet is where we speak.
- 12:31finally hear him a moment of stillness gives
- 12:39us the opportunity to listen for God's whisper
- 12:43right now wherever you are take a slow breath
- 12:49let your mind settle let your heart soften ask
- 12:56the Lord Father What are you saying to me today?
- 13:04You may not hear the words. You may sense peace.
- 13:09You may feel gentle nudge. You may simply become
- 13:13aware of his nearness. God's whisper is not always
- 13:18informational. Sometimes his whisper is simply,
- 13:23I am here. Quiet helps build trust. Because trust
- 13:32is not built in chaos. Trust is built in consistency.
- 13:39Trust is built in presence. When we learn to
- 13:44hear God in the quiet, we learn to trust Him
- 13:47in the noise. When we learn to hear God in stillness,
- 13:51we learn to follow Him in motion. When we learn
- 13:56to hear God in the ordinary, We recognize him
- 14:00as the extraordinary. Quiet is not the goal.
- 14:06Quiet is the training ground. Quiet prepares
- 14:10us for obedience. Hearing God is not the end.
- 14:17Hearing God is the beginning. The quiet prepares
- 14:22us to respond. It prepares us to obey. The quiet
- 14:28prepares us to walk in faith. James 1, verses
- 14:3322. That's obedience. Obedience is not born in
- 14:48pressure. Obedience is born in presence. When
- 14:51we know the one who speaks, we trust. the one
- 14:57who leads. In this next part, we'll explore how
- 15:07the quiet becomes a place of renewal, how God
- 15:11restores our soul, strengthens our spirit, and
- 15:15prepares us for the relationships, responsibilities,
- 15:19and callings ahead. But for now, we stay in this
- 15:24posture of listening. Stay in this awareness
- 15:27of his presence. Stay in this ministry of presence.
- 15:35As we turn our attention to one of the most beautiful
- 15:40works God does in the quiet, the work of renewal,
- 15:46the quiet is not only a place of listening, it
- 15:50is a place of restoration. It is where God rebuilds
- 15:54what life has worn down. In Psalm 23, verse 3,
- 16:00it says, He restoreth my soul. Not my schedule,
- 16:07not my reputation, not my image. My soul. The
- 16:12soul is the deepest part of us. The part that
- 16:16carries our hopes, our wounds, our memories,
- 16:21and our longings. And it is the soul. that God
- 16:25restores in the quiet. The quiet is a place of
- 16:35spiritual rest. And we've spoken about this before.
- 16:40Rest is not laziness. It's not a voidness. Rest
- 16:44is not weakness. It's worship. It's trust. Rest
- 16:50is surrender. Matthew 11 verse 28 says, Come
- 16:56to me, all you who are weary and burdened, and
- 17:03I will give you rest. Rest is not something we
- 17:08achieve. Rest is something we receive. In the
- 17:14quiet, God invites us to lay down the burdens.
- 17:21we were never meant to carry. The burdens of
- 17:25performance, the burdens of compassion, the burdens
- 17:28of fear, and even the burdens of self -reliance.
- 17:34Quiet is where we stop trying to be our own savior.
- 17:40Quiet is where we let God be God. Because quiet
- 17:49is a place of emotional healing. Many of us carry
- 17:53emotional fatigue that we never name. We push
- 17:58through, we keep going, we stay busy, and we
- 18:01stay distracted. That's a big one. We distract
- 18:04ourselves sometimes in our work or other things
- 18:07just to avoid the confrontation of that emotional
- 18:12fatigue. But in the quiet, the soul finally has
- 18:16space to breathe. Space to feel, space to heal.
- 18:21Psalm 34 verse 18 says, The Lord is nigh unto
- 18:28them that are of a broken heart. God does not
- 18:34avoid broken hearts. God draws near to broken
- 18:36hearts. God heals broken hearts in the quiet.
- 18:43God gently touches the places we hide. The disappointments,
- 18:50the losses, the fears, the unspoken griefs. Quiet
- 18:58is where God says, I see you. I know you. I am
- 19:05with you. Now let's take the quiet as a place
- 19:13of spiritual alignment. Because quiet... is not
- 19:17only about rest and healing it's also about alignment
- 19:20quiet is where god brings our desires our priorities
- 19:25and our decisions back into harmony with his
- 19:29heart proverbs 3 verse 6 says in all thy ways
- 19:36acknowledge him and he shall direct thy paths
- 19:41acknowledging god is not a rushed prayer, acknowledging
- 19:47God as a posture of the heart. It is saying,
- 19:52Lord, I want your way more than my way. In quiet,
- 20:01God realigns us. He straightens what has become
- 20:06crooked. He softens what has become hardened.
- 20:11He clarifies what has become confused. Quiet
- 20:17is where God brings us back to center, back to
- 20:20truth, back to purpose, and back to Him. And
- 20:28this quiet is a place of inner strength. Renewal
- 20:38is not only emotional and spiritual, it is also
- 20:41strength. Quiet is where God strengthens the
- 20:45inner person. In Isaiah 40 verse 31, it says,
- 20:53They that wait upon the Lord shall renew their
- 21:01strength. Waiting is not passive and waiting
- 21:06is not empty. And it's certainly not wasted.
- 21:10Waiting is where strength is rebuilt. Waiting
- 21:14is where courage is restored. Waiting is where
- 21:18endurance is formed. In the quiet, God strengthens
- 21:23us for what is ahead. He prepares us for the
- 21:27relationships we will carry. He prepares us for
- 21:31the responsibilities we will steward. He prepares
- 21:36us for the callings we will walk in. Quiet is
- 21:42not retreat. Quiet is preparation. Right now,
- 21:49take a slow breath. Let your heart settle. Let
- 21:56your mind unclench. Ask the Lord, Father, what
- 22:02do you want to restore in me today? Maybe it's
- 22:09peace? Maybe it's joy. Maybe to give you some
- 22:14clarity, some hope. Maybe it's trust. Whatever
- 22:21it is, God is not reluctant to restore you. He
- 22:25delights in restoring you. Psalm 51 verse 12
- 22:31says, Restore unto me the joy of thy salvation.
- 22:40Joy is not something we manufacture. Joy is something
- 22:44God renews. Let him renew you now. Let him restore
- 22:52you now. Let him strengthen you now. In this
- 23:05last part of our first session, we will explore
- 23:15how quiet becomes a place of communication. A
- 23:21place where we not only hear God and are restored
- 23:25by God, but where we simply enjoy being with
- 23:29Him. For now, remain in this moment of renewal.
- 23:35Let the presence of God settle over you. Let
- 23:39His peace fill the room. Let his strength rise
- 23:45within you. So we move now from renewal into
- 23:53communion. The simple, sacred joy of being with
- 23:58God, not asking, not striving, not performing,
- 24:02just being with him. Communion is not an activity.
- 24:08Communion is a relationship. Communion is presence
- 24:13meeting presence. God does not only want to speak
- 24:19to you, he wants to be with you. From the very
- 24:25beginning, God designed humanity for fellowship.
- 24:30Genesis 3 describes God walking in the garden
- 24:35in the cool of the day. This was not a moment
- 24:42of correction. This was a moment of communion.
- 24:46God walked with Adam. God talked to Adam. God
- 24:51delighted in Adam. The quiet is not a modern
- 24:57intervention. The quiet is an ancient. The quiet
- 25:02is holy. The quiet is where fellowship began.
- 25:08John 1, verse 3 says, Truly our fellowship is
- 25:14with the Father and with his Son, Jesus Christ.
- 25:20Fellowship is not a task. Fellowship is a gift.
- 25:27Jesus used a powerful word to describe communion.
- 25:33Abide. Not visit, not check in. Abide. John 15
- 25:41verse 4 says, Remain in me as I also remain in
- 25:47you. Abiding is not occasional. Abiding is continual.
- 25:53Abiding is relational. Quiet is where abiding
- 25:58becomes real. Quiet is where we slow down long
- 26:04enough. to notice God's nearness. Quiet is where
- 26:10we stop rushing past the one who loves us. Many
- 26:18believers think God tolerates them. But scriptures
- 26:23teaches us that God delights in his people. Psalm
- 26:28149 verse 4 says, For the Lord taketh pleasure
- 26:33in his people. pleasure, joy, delight. God does
- 26:42not merely endure you. God enjoys you. In the
- 26:48quiet, we begin to sense that delight. We begin
- 26:51to feel the warmth of his presence. And we begin
- 26:56to rest in his love. Communion is not about earning
- 27:01God's affection. Communion is about experiencing.
- 27:05God's affection. Communion with God is not formal.
- 27:15Communion with God is honest. Communion with
- 27:19God is vulnerable. In the quiet we can finally
- 27:26say what we really feel. In the quiet we can
- 27:32finally bring God the things we hide from others.
- 27:37And in the quiet, we can finally be known. Psalm
- 27:4462, verse 8 says, Pour out your heart before
- 27:50him. God is a refuge for us. Pour out your heart.
- 27:58Not edit your heart. Not sanitize your heart.
- 28:02Pour it out. God is not afraid of your honesty.
- 28:07God invites your honesty. Communion is ultimately
- 28:13about love. God's love for us and our love for
- 28:19Him. John 4, verse 19 says, We love Him because
- 28:28He first loved us. Love begins with God. Love
- 28:33flows from God. Love is sustained by God. In
- 28:39the quiet, we remember that we are loved. Not
- 28:47for what we do, not for what we accomplish, and
- 28:50not for how strong we appear. We are loved because
- 28:55God is love. Right now, take a slow breath. Let
- 29:04your heart soften. Let your mind rest. Imagine
- 29:08the Lord sitting with you. Not rushing you. Not
- 29:15correcting you. Just being with you. Let his
- 29:20presence settle over you like a warm blanket.
- 29:26Let his peace fill the room. Let his love quiet
- 29:32your soul. You do not need to say anything. You
- 29:37do not need to do anything. Just be with him.
- 29:42This is communion. This is presence. This is
- 29:47the quiet place where God meets his people. As
- 29:56we close this part of today's session, Remember
- 30:00this truth. God meets us in the quiet, not because
- 30:07we are strong, but because he is gentle. Not
- 30:11because we are perfect, but because he is present.
- 30:17The ministry of presence begins in stillness.
- 30:23It grows in listening. It deepens in renewal.
- 30:27And it blossoms in communion. So this last segment,
- 30:34we explore God's presence as it flows into our
- 30:39relationships, how he meets us through people,
- 30:42through community, through the sacred gift of
- 30:47companionship. But for now, rest this moment.
- 30:52Rest his nearness and rest in his love. God's
- 31:03presence in relationships, it's a gift of companionship.
- 31:11So when we shift from our quiet places of soul
- 31:15to the relational spaces of life, God meets us
- 31:19in the quiet, yes, but he also meets us through
- 31:24people, through community, through the sacred
- 31:28gift of companionship. Human beings are created
- 31:31for relationship. Not as an afterthought, not
- 31:35as a convenience, but as a reflection of God's
- 31:39own nature. Genesis 2 verse 18 says, It is not
- 31:45good that man should be alone. This is not merely
- 31:50about marriage. This is about human condition.
- 31:54We were made for connection. The ministry of
- 31:58presence is not only God's presence with us,
- 32:01it's God's presence expressed through us. God
- 32:07is a relational being by nature. Father, Son,
- 32:13and Holy Spirit, a perfect communion of love.
- 32:17And we made, in his image, carry that relational
- 32:24design with us. When we love well, we reflect
- 32:30Him. When we listen well, we reflect Him. When
- 32:34we walk with others in their joy, in their pain,
- 32:39we reflect Him. John 4, verse 12 says, If we
- 32:48love one another, God lives in us, and His love
- 32:53is made. to complete us. Love is not merely an
- 33:02emotion. Love is a revelation. Love reveals God.
- 33:11One of the most powerful ministries we can offer
- 33:14is the ministry of presence. Simply being with
- 33:18somebody. Not fixing, advising, or rescuing,
- 33:22but being with. Romans 12 verse 15 says, This
- 33:32is not a command to solve problems. This is a
- 33:40call to share life. Presence is healing. Presence
- 33:44is comforting. Presence is holy. Sometimes the
- 33:48most Christian -like thing we can do is sit with
- 33:52someone in silence. Sometimes the most powerful
- 33:58prayer we can pray is simply to show up. Listening
- 34:06is one of our purest forms of love. Listening
- 34:12says you matter, your story matters, your heart
- 34:15matters. There's a value there that you're expressing.
- 34:21James 1 verse 19 says, Listening is not waiting
- 34:36for our turn to talk. Listening is creating space
- 34:40for another person's soul to breathe. When we
- 34:45listen well, we echo the heart of Jesus. the
- 34:49one who heard the cries of the blind, the whispers
- 34:54of the broken, the questions of the searching
- 34:58and the prayers of the desperate. Listening is
- 35:02presence in action. Encouragement is not flattery.
- 35:10Encouragement is not empty positivity. Encouragement
- 35:17is the act of speaking life into another person's
- 35:21spirit. Hebrews 10 verse 24 and 25 says, To exhort
- 35:39is to lift, to strengthen, to remind someone
- 35:45of, who they are in God. Encouragement is oxygen
- 35:52for the soul. Encouragement is fuel for the journey.
- 35:55Encouragement is presence expressed through words.
- 36:01Scripture is filled with examples of holy companionship.
- 36:07Moses and Aaron, leadership shared. David and
- 36:12Jonathan, covenant friendship. Ruth and Naomi,
- 36:19loyalty and suffering. Paul and Timothy, mentorship
- 36:26and spiritual family. And Jesus and his disciples,
- 36:33life lived together. Exhiliastes 4 verses 9 -10
- 36:43says, We were never meant to walk alone. We were
- 36:57never meant to carry life by ourselves. God's
- 37:02presence often arrives wrapped in the presence
- 37:05of another person. I once spoke with a man who
- 37:11told me that The moment he felt God most clearly
- 37:15was not during a sermon, not during a worship
- 37:20service or, you know, just having a simple conversation
- 37:27with a friend. Nothing formal. He said, Pastor,
- 37:32I was discouraged. I felt unseen and my friend
- 37:36sat with me. Listen to me. It reminded me that
- 37:41God had not forgotten me. In that very moment,
- 37:46I felt the presence of God through him. This
- 37:51is the ministry of presence. God using ordinary
- 37:56people to deliver extraordinary grace. Healthy
- 38:03relationships are not one -sided. They are mutual.
- 38:06They are reciprocal. They are shared. Galatians
- 38:136 verse 2 says, Bear ye one another's burdens
- 38:19and so fulfill the law of Christ. We carry each
- 38:26other. We lift each other. We strengthen each
- 38:30other. And in doing so, we reveal Christ to one
- 38:35another. Take a moment now and think of someone
- 38:42God has used in your life. Someone who encouraged
- 38:47you, someone who listened to you, someone who
- 38:52walked with you. Now thank God for them. Bless
- 38:59them in your heart. Recognize the presence of
- 39:03God that came through them. Now think of someone
- 39:08God may be calling you to encourage. Someone
- 39:19who needs your presence. Someone who needs your
- 39:24listening ear. Someone who needs your compassion.
- 39:30Ask the Lord to make you a vessel of his presence
- 39:34in their life. When we talk about God's presence
- 39:46in relationships, healing, reconciliation, and
- 39:52spiritual growth, we need to look just a little
- 39:57bit deeper in the relational ministries of God's
- 40:01presence. They are a place of healing, a place
- 40:08of refinement, a place where God shapes us, stretches
- 40:11us, and grows us. Because God uses people for
- 40:15comfort, challenge, to sharpen us, to heal us.
- 40:23The ministry of presence is not only about being
- 40:27with others, it's about allowing God to work
- 40:30through others. Healing really happens in isolation.
- 40:39Healing happens in connection. Healing happens
- 40:42in community. James 5 verse 16 says, Confess
- 40:47your sins to each other and pray for each other
- 40:52so that you may be healed. Healing is not only
- 40:59vertical between us and God. Healing is also
- 41:03horizontal between us and one another. When we
- 41:09share our burdens, healing begins. When we share
- 41:11our struggles, healing begins. When we share
- 41:14our truth, healing begins. God often uses the
- 41:19presence of another person to bring restoration
- 41:22to our soul. Relationships are not perfect. People
- 41:29are not perfect. We are not perfect. We have
- 41:33to understand that. And because of that, Relationships
- 41:38require reconciliation. Reconciliation is not
- 41:42a weakness. It is a strength. It is Christ -like.
- 41:47Corinthians 5 verse 18 says, God hath given to
- 41:52us the ministry of reconciliation. Reconciliation
- 41:58is not pretending nothing happened. Reconciliation
- 42:01is not minimizing pain. It is the holy work of
- 42:05restoring What is broken? It is the work of humility,
- 42:09forgiveness, and the work of love. Forgiveness
- 42:16is not forgetting. Forgiveness is not excusing.
- 42:22And forgiveness, more importantly, is releasing
- 42:25and choosing presence over distance. Forgiveness
- 42:30is choosing healing over bitterness. And forgiveness
- 42:34is choosing freedom over resentment. Ephesians
- 42:414 verse 32 says, Be ye kind one to another, forgiving
- 42:49one another, even as God for Christ's sake hath
- 42:53forgiven you. We forgive because we have been
- 42:59forgiven. We extend grace because we have received
- 43:04grace. Forgiveness is one of the clearest expressions
- 43:10of God's presence in our relationships. Relationships
- 43:18are not only a place of comfort, they are a place
- 43:21of growth. Growth requires friction, honesty,
- 43:25and absolute accountability. Proverbs 27, verse
- 43:3117 says, Iron sharpeneth iron, so a man sharpeth
- 43:39the countenance of his friend. Sharpening is
- 43:46not always comfortable. Sharpening is not always
- 43:49easy, but sharpening is necessary. God uses people
- 43:53to refine us, to challenge us, stretch us, mature
- 43:56us. And you know what that is? That's growth.
- 44:00Growth is a gift, it is grace, and it is presence.
- 44:10Now let's look at the community in our spiritual
- 44:13formation. Spiritual formation is not a solo
- 44:17journey. Spiritual formation is a shared journey.
- 44:21Acts 2 describes the early church as community
- 44:24devoted to fellowship, prayer, teaching. and
- 44:28breaking bread together. Their spiritual growth
- 44:31was communal, not individual. Hebrews 10, verse
- 44:3825 says, Not forsaking the assembly of ourselves
- 44:44together, but exhorting one another. Exhorting
- 44:50one another. Community is not optional. It is
- 44:54essential. Community is where faith... is strengthened
- 44:58and love is practiced. I once spoke to two friends
- 45:03who had gone through a very painful misunderstanding.
- 45:07Words were spoken, feelings were hurt, distance
- 45:10grew between them, but over time God began to
- 45:14soften their hearts. One reached out, it only
- 45:17takes one. The other responded. They talked,
- 45:22they prayed, they forgave. And they told me,
- 45:27Pastor, we felt God's presence in that conversation
- 45:31more than we have in years. Reconciliation is
- 45:36a holy ground. Healing is holy. Growth is holy.
- 45:44Healthy relationships do not leave us the same.
- 45:49Healthy relationships transform us. Healthy relationships
- 45:52draw us closer to Christ. Colossians 3 verse
- 45:5816 says, Teach and counsel each other with all
- 46:03the wisdom he gives. We teach each other, we
- 46:08counsel each other, we strengthen each other,
- 46:11and we cause transformation for each other. This
- 46:17is the ministry of presence. God working through
- 46:21us to shape one another into the image of Christ.
- 46:27Take a moment. Bring your relationships before
- 46:32God, your friendships, your family, your community,
- 46:36your church, and ask him, Lord, where are you
- 46:44healing? Where are you reconciling? Where are
- 46:48you growing me? Where are you calling me to show
- 46:53your presence? Let him speak. Let him guide.
- 47:00Let him soften. And let him strengthen. We now
- 47:08offer this closing prayer. Heavenly Father, we
- 47:13thank you for your abiding presence, for meeting
- 47:17us not only in the sacred spaces, but in the
- 47:20ordinary rhythms of our days. Teach us to recognize
- 47:24you in the quiet moments, in the faces of those
- 47:29we love, and in the work you've placed before
- 47:32us. Let your spirit remind us that we are never
- 47:37alone, that your grace surrounds us, and that
- 47:41your peace sustains us. As we leave this time
- 47:45together, may your presence go before us, dwell
- 47:49within us, and shine through us to a world in
- 47:53need of hope. In Jesus' name we pray. Amen. Next
- 48:01week, we will complete the Ministry of Presence
- 48:04with Part 2 and explore how God's presence meets
- 48:08us in our work and our calling and how he walks
- 48:13with us in our everyday responsibilities, assignments,
- 48:16and tasks and all these things that fill our
- 48:20lives. But for now, rest in this truth. God meets
- 48:25us through people. God heals us through people.
- 48:29God grows us through people. God reveals his
- 48:33presence through the relationships he places
- 48:37in our lives. This has been the Voices of Life
- 48:41podcast for Sunday, May 17, 2026. A ministry
- 48:46of the Church for Life. I'm Pastor David. And

- 48:58in season two, episode four, A Day of Remembrance,
- 49:03A Christian Reflection on the Civil War and Reconciliation,
- 49:06we reflected on how God's presence brings healing
- 49:09even to the wounds of history. Today, we've begun
- 49:14exploring how that same presence transforms our
- 49:17daily lives. Next week, we will continue with
- 49:21part two, where we'll look deeper into how God
- 49:23meets us in our relationships and our calling.
- 49:26Until then, may you walk in his peace, live in
- 49:29his purpose, and carry his presence wherever
