- 0:00Speaker 1: This is how we do it. This is how we
- 0:03Speaker 1: do it. No no, no, no, no, na, this is
- 0:07Speaker 1: how we do it. No no, no, no no. Hi guys,
- 0:12Speaker 1: we can't even interest Joel. Look at her. She's just
- 0:15Speaker 1: her Internet Internet. She's promise Internet face. I see yeah, Yo,
- 0:21Speaker 1: I gotta tell you something. Go ahead, one, I have
- 0:24Speaker 1: so much to tell you. Yes, go on, I miss you, guys.
- 0:28Speaker 1: My daughter's birthdays coming up this week. On Friday, she
- 0:31Speaker 1: turned six, while de Francis Fazon turned six years oldthday.
- 0:37Speaker 1: I am so excited. That's what I'm talking about. That
- 0:40Speaker 1: is what I'm talking about. Do you want to hear
- 0:41Speaker 1: something crazy? Everything? This is the craziest thing is my
- 0:44Speaker 1: late father would say every time he saw an old friend,
- 0:48Speaker 1: tell me everything. Okay, my daughter is for some reason.
- 0:57Speaker 1: I don't know how this is possible. Well I do
- 1:00Speaker 1: know how it's possible, but I just got to say,
- 1:02Speaker 1: shout out to this lovely lady. My daughter is obsessed
- 1:06Speaker 1: with Valerie Burton Elly. I know, look at your faces,
- 1:11Speaker 1: you guys are all like, I love Valerie Burton, Elle, Adam,
- 1:16Speaker 1: How did how did she get exposed to Valerie Burton? Ellie?
- 1:19Speaker 1: That's exactly what well. Listen, First of all, they have
- 1:21Speaker 1: the same birthday. Okay, that's one. She knows all of
- 1:25Speaker 1: Valerie's hobbies now and it's all due to Kids Baking Championship. Yes, so, Valerie, Burton,
- 1:33Speaker 1: Ellie and this dude Duff host this show, Kids Baking
- 1:37Speaker 1: Championship where they have a bunch of kids bake cakes, cookies,
- 1:45Speaker 1: you name it. Right, My daughter's watched every season. And
- 1:48Speaker 1: she's not only watched every season, she's watched every season
- 1:51Speaker 1: in like flu pandemic, so pandemic. Kids Baking Championship has
- 1:55Speaker 1: become the number one thing in our house. Wow. She
- 1:59Speaker 1: loves the cook because she does Casey cook with her
- 2:02Speaker 1: or baker. No, no, because I'm the baker in the
- 2:05Speaker 1: house right, Oh, I see. And so I'll be making
- 2:07Speaker 1: stuff and my daughter's like, is that fondon? Are you
- 2:09Speaker 1: gonna make fond that? Yeah? Are you gonna do buttercream?
- 2:14Speaker 1: If you're gonna do butter cream, this is what I suggest,
- 2:17Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like, she's totally into it.
- 2:19Speaker 1: She's like, Valerie loves lemon. She loves she loves lemon flavor.
- 2:23Speaker 1: That's so funny. So maybe when you're back you could
- 2:25Speaker 1: cook with her bake with her. Oh dude, I got
- 2:28Speaker 1: it all set I got it set in stone. For
- 2:29Speaker 1: her birthday, we're gonna surprise her with some baking stuff.
- 2:32Speaker 1: But for her birthday, all she wants to do is
- 2:36Speaker 1: meet Valerie Burton. Now, I feel like you can make
- 2:39Speaker 1: that happen. I don't know that we can. Man. You know,
- 2:41Speaker 1: if anybody out there that's listening right now has a connection, listen,
- 2:45Speaker 1: With all due respect to Valerie, she's not asking to
- 2:48Speaker 1: meet Beyonce, right, I think Valerie, I think I have
- 2:52Speaker 1: a better shot at meeting Beyonce, her meeting Beyonce than
- 2:55Speaker 1: meeting Valerie. Though. I think like my only in with
- 2:57Speaker 1: Valerie is that we were on the same network for
- 3:00Speaker 1: a few seasons. We were on, we were on. This
- 3:03Speaker 1: is how you. I think if you, if you use
- 3:05Speaker 1: your agent um to call Valerie's agent and just write
- 3:10Speaker 1: a very sweet note saying, because of the baking show,
- 3:13Speaker 1: my daughter is obsessed. And I'm sure you get other
- 3:16Speaker 1: parents saying this, but is there any chance you'd consider
- 3:18Speaker 1: just doing a little video for her? There's no way
- 3:20Speaker 1: she's going to say no to you. Well, I don't know,
- 3:22Speaker 1: I love her, you know, my daughter really loves her. Yeah,
- 3:27Speaker 1: you could even say that you love her and you
- 3:28Speaker 1: grew up watching her. And you know, I don't want
- 3:30Speaker 1: to say I grew up anytime somebody says I grew
- 3:32Speaker 1: up watching you. I got a problem with that. For
- 3:34Speaker 1: some reason, why people say that to us all the time. Yeah,
- 3:37Speaker 1: I got a problem with I got a problem with
- 3:38Speaker 1: him thinking that I'm an old as motherfucker. I'm not old, Okay,
- 3:42Speaker 1: I am young. I had this funny moment. The kids
- 3:45Speaker 1: in my movie Cheaper by the Dozen. They you know,
- 3:48Speaker 1: they're they're too young to even no scrubs. But like
- 3:51Speaker 1: I blew their minds when I told them I was
- 3:54Speaker 1: checking little, like I saw I put the video on Instagram.
- 3:58Speaker 1: They're little. I was just one of them. Their their
- 4:00Speaker 1: minds were like, all of a sudden, I went I
- 4:03Speaker 1: became exponentially cooler to that because I was the voice
- 4:07Speaker 1: of Chicken Little. I love that. That's great though, man.
- 4:10Speaker 1: But so yeah, I mean, you know, we're not on
- 4:12Speaker 1: You know some of these kids. You know the fact
- 4:14Speaker 1: that Wilder is a Valerie Burton elly fan is adorable
- 4:17Speaker 1: and funny because you know, I mean that that lady
- 4:20Speaker 1: has a hustle. I'm gonna tell you that right now. Man,
- 4:22Speaker 1: she went from actress, producer, director, you know, in the
- 4:25Speaker 1: entertainment industry, and now she's a sincere cook, like she
- 4:29Speaker 1: can throw down in the kitchen Valley Burton Elly Cannon.
- 4:32Speaker 1: So you know, well, I think you can make it happen, dude,
- 4:35Speaker 1: if you really committed, I think you could. You could
- 4:38Speaker 1: place two well written emails and magic could happen. We'll see,
- 4:43Speaker 1: see Wilder. When is Wilder's birthday, because I'd probably have
- 4:45Speaker 1: to send a present. She's my god daughter. Right Friday,
- 4:48Speaker 1: the twenty third of April, Wilder turns three, Wildness. Also,
- 4:55Speaker 1: let me tell you this now. So here's the other thing.
- 4:57Speaker 1: Go ahead. I am loving my job. Yeah you are.
- 5:01Speaker 1: I'm gonna be so disappointed if this CW doesn't pick
- 5:06Speaker 1: up this show. That's what I'm about. That's what I'm
- 5:09Speaker 1: talking about. And this could be a possibility, this could
- 5:12Speaker 1: be I don't know, man. This is why I think
- 5:14Speaker 1: you've got a lot in your favor. Okay, there's a
- 5:16Speaker 1: lot of hype about the show. I've never been on
- 5:18Speaker 1: anything that You've got. Greg brand Lanny, who's possibly the
- 5:21Speaker 1: biggest show runner in TV. He's the biggest TV right
- 5:26Speaker 1: producer right now, if you ask me, no offense to Bill.
- 5:29Speaker 1: But I don't even know if Bill's listening. But um,
- 5:31Speaker 1: Greg Lanny is a powerhouse. I don't think Greg gets knows. Um,
- 5:36Speaker 1: So I think you're and everyone's you know, people are
- 5:38Speaker 1: talking about this. It's in the Joel, You're a pop
- 5:40Speaker 1: culture expert. Aren't people so excited about this? Yeah? Man, listen.
- 5:44Speaker 1: I listen to other podcasts of which I have no
- 5:47Speaker 1: relationship or association with, and it's so funny to hear
- 5:50Speaker 1: them talking like, yeah, Don's gonna play the Professor and
- 5:54Speaker 1: we're talking costumes and designs, and all my friends are
- 5:57Speaker 1: chatting about it. Everyone's real excited. I mean, PowerUP Girls.
- 6:00Speaker 1: It's been a main staple in the zeit guys for
- 6:02Speaker 1: over twenty years now, so to see it come to life,
- 6:04Speaker 1: I think it's exciting for people. Right. I'm gonna say
- 6:07Speaker 1: this to all the fans out there who are true
- 6:10Speaker 1: Powerpuff fans and everything. We're sticking to the OG series. Okay,
- 6:14Speaker 1: so everything that happened in the OG series is possible
- 6:18Speaker 1: could happen on our show. You know what I mean?
- 6:22Speaker 1: It's it's I I for one, like you know me
- 6:26Speaker 1: how it comes when it comes to reading scripts, I
- 6:29Speaker 1: don't necessarily do it all the time. I memorize my lines. Wow,
- 6:34Speaker 1: to the point where I can go do other things now,
- 6:37Speaker 1: like what do I have tomorrow? What time about to
- 6:38Speaker 1: be at work? Fine, I'll be there. I know exactly
- 6:41Speaker 1: what I need to do. Like, there's nothing that anyone
- 6:43Speaker 1: can do that'll throw me off in my work for
- 6:47Speaker 1: this job right now, like I am in it to
- 6:49Speaker 1: win it. Well, you've also you're also I think, newly
- 6:53Speaker 1: energized and excited by the jobs. So you're committed and
- 6:56Speaker 1: you're not phoning it in. You know, you're you're you're,
- 6:58Speaker 1: you're all in. Yeah, absolutely, man, it's it's a blast.
- 7:02Speaker 1: And my girls away, they're not picking it up. Girls, dude,
- 7:05Speaker 1: please don't jinx us. But yeah, the girls. I'm not
- 7:07Speaker 1: superstitious like that. I think that you have to manifest
- 7:10Speaker 1: it and say it's going to happen. In it. Put
- 7:12Speaker 1: it on the whiteboard, Put it on the whiteboard, Act
- 7:14Speaker 1: as if my stepmother would say, act as if, act
- 7:16Speaker 1: as if it's happening. I have be the person who
- 7:20Speaker 1: had already happened to so you're just living it. I
- 7:23Speaker 1: have very very high hopes, very very high hopes anyway,
- 7:26Speaker 1: and we're trying to make it look dope to like,
- 7:28Speaker 1: trying to make it be you know, the CW's most
- 7:34Speaker 1: in a lot of ways authentic to the girls, the
- 7:36Speaker 1: original Powerpuff Girls, and also the special effects, trying to
- 7:40Speaker 1: be as dope of special effects as we could possible. Well,
- 7:43Speaker 1: you sent me in a secret video that looked awesome.
- 7:46Speaker 1: I mean, even though you were just fucking around, it
- 7:49Speaker 1: looked awesome, and I was like, wow, that's I mean,
- 7:51Speaker 1: you must be you're like in heaven. This is like
- 7:53Speaker 1: your fucking dream situation. I mean, besides being in a
- 7:57Speaker 1: Star Wars thing, this is like your dream situation. Well,
- 7:59Speaker 1: the rector, Maggie, she's amazing. Diablo is amazing, Like the
- 8:04Speaker 1: girls are amazing, you know, the cast is amazing. I'm
- 8:07Speaker 1: just you know, I sound like an amazing geek right now. No,
- 8:10Speaker 1: you sound like a happy person. And you know what,
- 8:12Speaker 1: after a year of being a hermit in the pandemic,
- 8:16Speaker 1: it's in it wonderful and we should be so grateful
- 8:19Speaker 1: that we're able to go back to work and do
- 8:22Speaker 1: what we love. And I feel very grateful that I
- 8:24Speaker 1: get to be making cheaper by the dozen. I yeah,
- 8:26Speaker 1: but how's it going? I love it? Man, I'm the
- 8:29Speaker 1: same way. I mean, this is too good to be true.
- 8:31Speaker 1: I love these these kids are so cute and they're
- 8:34Speaker 1: so smart, and I just love I love working with them,
- 8:37Speaker 1: I love the director. Um it's it's a great script.
- 8:41Speaker 1: I just think, you know, I end the day when
- 8:44Speaker 1: we when we're done, you know, doing whatever scenes we
- 8:46Speaker 1: did the day going like this is just gonna be
- 8:48Speaker 1: so perfect for families. It's it's it's the ultimate thing
- 8:51Speaker 1: you can watch with your whole family, you know. I
- 8:53Speaker 1: know parents. I'm not a parent, but I know parents
- 8:56Speaker 1: are always looking for what's that thing that my kids
- 8:58Speaker 1: are gonna like that I can watch with them and
- 9:00Speaker 1: also enjoy. And I just feel proud that I think,
- 9:03Speaker 1: I think and I hope that this is going to
- 9:04Speaker 1: be that because I'm cracking up and and it's a
- 9:07Speaker 1: kids movie, you know, but um, but the kids are hilarious.
- 9:10Speaker 1: I mean, they spent a year looking for these children.
- 9:12Speaker 1: They the whole pandemic. She was director was searching all
- 9:16Speaker 1: across North America for these kids, and and they're so
- 9:20Speaker 1: talented and they cracked me up, and um, I love them.
- 9:23Speaker 1: There's there's the two that I want to adopt. All right.
- 9:27Speaker 1: I'm sure they have parents, so I don't know if
- 9:29Speaker 1: that's the past. Of course the parents are. I mean,
- 9:31Speaker 1: it's just the awesome it's streaming. It's it's too gonna
- 9:34Speaker 1: be true. By the way, I gotta say, because Clay
- 9:36Speaker 1: Aiken is in this episode, we're gonna do before we
- 9:38Speaker 1: get into the episode. Are you guys watching American Idol
- 9:41Speaker 1: this year? It is so good, like I've never watched
- 9:46Speaker 1: I haven't watched American Idol in years, but I don't
- 9:48Speaker 1: know if there's a new director or new producer. They
- 9:51Speaker 1: had to figure out how to do it without really
- 9:53Speaker 1: a much of an audience, so they in the redesign,
- 9:57Speaker 1: they built this beautiful set in the light being in
- 10:00Speaker 1: the camera work and the projections, like it's beautiful. And
- 10:04Speaker 1: then I don't remember ever watching American isiold where there's
- 10:06Speaker 1: like legit eight people that could win. I mean, really, okay, dude,
- 10:11Speaker 1: I'm telling you. Listen, Listener, listen, listener, listen, go back.
- 10:18Speaker 1: If you just want to wat this will air on Tuesday.
- 10:20Speaker 1: If you want to just want to start with last
- 10:22Speaker 1: week's episodes. I found them on Hulu. I mean, you
- 10:25Speaker 1: can't believe there's one sixteen year old girl who has
- 10:28Speaker 1: the sickest rock and roll voice and you're just you
- 10:31Speaker 1: cut to Lionel Ritchie with his jaw on the floor.
- 10:34Speaker 1: I mean, they are. There's so much talent and it's
- 10:37Speaker 1: just exciting to watch. I'm so invested because I love
- 10:40Speaker 1: watching talent that no one's discovered before. And there's just
- 10:43Speaker 1: some really really talented people and I'm really enjoying it.
- 10:47Speaker 1: So I highly recommend they have Lionel Richie Night where
- 10:49Speaker 1: they sing nothing but Lionel Richie songs. Maybe they will,
- 10:52Speaker 1: but he's actually a really good judge and mentor is
- 10:56Speaker 1: a good mentor. He doesn't really mentor them. I guess
- 10:58Speaker 1: he does mentor them. He gives them at the point
- 11:00Speaker 1: in the competition where they perform and you know America
- 11:02Speaker 1: is voting, but then the judges give them their tips.
- 11:05Speaker 1: You know. It's a much kindler, gentler version than the
- 11:07Speaker 1: Simon Cowell version, where which was funny, but this isn't
- 11:11Speaker 1: that isn't really the way anymore. And Simon was trying
- 11:13Speaker 1: to get Simon was trying to get that show number
- 11:15Speaker 1: one ratings, so he'd just say whatever he wanted to say. Well,
- 11:18Speaker 1: I mean I really liked that, actually, I thought even
- 11:20Speaker 1: though even even I thought he was funny. And but
- 11:24Speaker 1: I think in this kindler, gentler era, it's not really
- 11:28Speaker 1: what people want anymore. Um but but so they aren't
- 11:31Speaker 1: really criticizing so much as they're the cheerleaders, the coaches,
- 11:34Speaker 1: and they they'll say positive things they don't really say
- 11:37Speaker 1: at this point, they don't really say anything negative. Um
- 11:40Speaker 1: but it doesn't matter. It's just it's just it's just
- 11:42Speaker 1: I don't know, it's it's it's again. It's something like
- 11:45Speaker 1: Cheaper by the dozen that you can watch with your kids,
- 11:48Speaker 1: and um, it's so wholesome and I like, I literally cry.
- 11:53Speaker 1: I mean, it's just so you watch someone get up
- 11:55Speaker 1: there and kill it and it's just and they they
- 11:58Speaker 1: they this is the biggest moment of the life and
- 12:00Speaker 1: they kill it. It's just I'm happy for them. I
- 12:02Speaker 1: hear that. I gotta tell you, I am not watching
- 12:06Speaker 1: American Idol, but I'd love that you have found something
- 12:09Speaker 1: that is I'm telling you you'd like shows where people
- 12:12Speaker 1: who get their shot succeed. Absolutely. I'm one of those
- 12:17Speaker 1: people who loves to see people succeed when they're given
- 12:20Speaker 1: the opportunity. Right, well, I love that. This is my
- 12:23Speaker 1: pitch for American Idol. All right, we have Schae Serrano
- 12:27Speaker 1: on the show, which is very exciting to address the
- 12:30Speaker 1: out of order thing. For those of you that missed it,
- 12:32Speaker 1: the live show aired on Thursday. For those of you
- 12:35Speaker 1: who who weren't there, I hope you enjoyed it. And
- 12:37Speaker 1: now we're going a little bit more back out of
- 12:40Speaker 1: order as we do My life and four cameras because
- 12:43Speaker 1: we wanted to have Shae Serrano on for this one
- 12:45Speaker 1: because it's one of his favorites. And then here going forward,
- 12:48Speaker 1: we should be back in order, correct you, Well, that
- 12:51Speaker 1: is absolutely correct. All right, welling, So all of you
- 12:55Speaker 1: out there that are hating and are so annoyed by
- 12:58Speaker 1: us bumping and jumping around and stuff like that, your
- 13:01Speaker 1: wish has been granted. We are now back in order. Yeah,
- 13:03Speaker 1: I'm sure you'll find something else to hate. Yeah, Donald,
- 13:06Speaker 1: you just stop reading those comments, dude, the comments like, real, dude,
- 13:10Speaker 1: your life is too good to be getting upset by Instagram.
- 13:13Speaker 1: I just want sometimes I want that smoke though, you
- 13:15Speaker 1: know what I mean? Something I really don't want the smoke.
- 13:17Speaker 1: But sometimes I'm like smoke. Sometimes I got you know
- 13:21Speaker 1: what I mean? Sometimes I got that time. You know
- 13:24Speaker 1: what I mean? There are days where I got time.
- 13:26Speaker 1: You know what I'm saying. Listen, Every once in a while,
- 13:29Speaker 1: you need to remind me, and I need to remind
- 13:31Speaker 1: you that you cannot let one person comments on Instagram
- 13:36Speaker 1: upset you. Oh I don't let it upset me. I
- 13:39Speaker 1: just I just block them so they can't see what
- 13:41Speaker 1: but you said you got you got quote unquote all
- 13:43Speaker 1: smoked up or something. Yeah, No, I didn't get all
- 13:45Speaker 1: smoked up. I just had time that day. I had
- 13:49Speaker 1: time that day. You want they caught me sometimes, you know,
- 13:52Speaker 1: to catch me when I'm out and about with my kids.
- 13:55Speaker 1: You know, I don't really got time. But yesterday, pimp,
- 13:57Speaker 1: Pimp squiller, I had time for you know what I'm saying.
- 14:00Speaker 1: I want to say, Cashmius. How about that? No, I
- 14:03Speaker 1: don't want to say catch me outside because did you
- 14:05Speaker 1: run into people? And it's some people? Do you know?
- 14:08Speaker 1: When did I tell you? When we did it wasn't
- 14:11Speaker 1: family feud. When we were rehearsing um for Cheaper by
- 14:16Speaker 1: the dozen on the paramounts lot, I went to the restroom,
- 14:20Speaker 1: and all of a sudden, I went around a corner
- 14:22Speaker 1: and I was in the Doctor Phil hallway. I was
- 14:25Speaker 1: in the cashmi outside, how about that hallway? Get out here? Yeah.
- 14:30Speaker 1: I didn't know who to tell, but I was like, guys, guys,
- 14:33Speaker 1: to myself, how about that hallway? That girl made a career.
- 14:41Speaker 1: Doctor Phil gave that young lady a courage though she's
- 14:44Speaker 1: I mean, I just saw on something on the news
- 14:46Speaker 1: that she's coming back and saying, I guess they sent
- 14:48Speaker 1: her after the show to some troubled teen experience where
- 14:52Speaker 1: you go into a camp and they and they, you know,
- 14:54Speaker 1: tough love kind of thing, and she was saying that
- 14:57Speaker 1: it was a horrible experience and they were abusive. Um
- 15:01Speaker 1: and so so I just saw she's still she's still coming,
- 15:04Speaker 1: She's still on the major come up. Man, she definitely turned.
- 15:07Speaker 1: I would have gotten it wrong that the cashman I saw,
- 15:10Speaker 1: how about that girl would have a big music career,
- 15:12Speaker 1: But it sounds like she did it. Yeah, she did it.
- 15:14Speaker 1: Did so as a banger, we should get into the
- 15:16Speaker 1: She got a couple of them where I'm like, yeah,
- 15:18Speaker 1: she got a couple of them where I'm like, okay, girl,
- 15:20Speaker 1: all right, we should get into the show before we do.
- 15:22Speaker 1: Are you watching these TikTok videos I send you? Because
- 15:25Speaker 1: some of them, do you laugh? I don't know. You
- 15:27Speaker 1: don't know I laugh out loud. Some of them that
- 15:30Speaker 1: you send me are very uh provocative. I should say, well,
- 15:36Speaker 1: there's one that I don't understand. This woman that there's
- 15:39Speaker 1: a trend where they danced to this song. I'm gonna
- 15:42Speaker 1: stay it in a way that might be um be
- 15:44Speaker 1: appropriate in case your kids are on the car. The
- 15:46Speaker 1: song lyrics appear to be if we copulate whilst I'm
- 15:53Speaker 1: enjoying this percoset, I'm gonna do such a good job
- 15:58Speaker 1: that you your gonna tell you it will be quite lubricated.
- 16:03Speaker 1: Oh everyone know what this gend is? Oh no? And
- 16:11Speaker 1: then people are dancing to the song, yeah, as you do,
- 16:16Speaker 1: but like in in in their underwear. I send it
- 16:19Speaker 1: to Donald, I'm like, do I have the lyrics of
- 16:21Speaker 1: this song? Correct? This is what this singer is saying.
- 16:27Speaker 1: That's a all right, I'll send you the video. It's insane.
- 16:32Speaker 1: I don't know what you google, Daniel. You look like
- 16:34Speaker 1: you're about to google. I don't know, I am, I
- 16:36Speaker 1: don't know what you're gonna google. Google already ruined. So yeah,
- 16:39Speaker 1: you Google, but Google like um percocet TikTok song. It's
- 16:44Speaker 1: really bad for the children. All right, let's bring Shane.
- 16:47Speaker 1: Let's start the show. Send Donald about show we made
- 16:54Speaker 1: about nurses story never so yeado around here, yeado around
- 17:13Speaker 1: Where is that handsome Shae serround? Yeah give it. Welcome, welcome, welcomescome, dude.
- 17:27Speaker 1: We're so happy to have you back on. Man listen.
- 17:29Speaker 1: There have been other guests, but there have not been
- 17:31Speaker 1: any Chase serrounds. Well, you know, congratulations to you guys.
- 17:36Speaker 1: I keep seeing y'all's names pop up and all these
- 17:39Speaker 1: news articles with cool stuff happening in your careers. That's cool.
- 17:42Speaker 1: I'm telling people now, like y'all are my friends. I'm like,
- 17:47Speaker 1: sh I saw that you got a nice little uh
- 17:50Speaker 1: jersey from the San Antonio Spurs. But it came and
- 17:54Speaker 1: I popped up in a box and stuff like that
- 17:56Speaker 1: Spurs that's a and that's a that's an official jersey too, right, yeah, yeah, yeah.
- 18:02Speaker 1: My buddy works for the team or works with the team.
- 18:05Speaker 1: He does all of the media stuff and whatever whatever.
- 18:08Speaker 1: So when the new when they put out the Fiesta jerseys,
- 18:10Speaker 1: which we have been asking for for years. I hit
- 18:13Speaker 1: him up and I said, Hey, where do I buy
- 18:14Speaker 1: one of these? And he said, don't worry about it,
- 18:17Speaker 1: just check your mailbox in like six months while I
- 18:20Speaker 1: was in there, and then it was in there. It
- 18:22Speaker 1: took a while, but it got here and I love
- 18:24Speaker 1: it still. Man. They're not doing that well this year. Man,
- 18:27Speaker 1: that's okay. They're having a tough one. And you know,
- 18:30Speaker 1: I'm gonna tell you something. I love Damar DeRozan. I
- 18:32Speaker 1: think he needs a one punch though, you know what
- 18:34Speaker 1: I mean, Like he's a two now. He's not the
- 18:36Speaker 1: one anymore, you know what I mean. I feel like
- 18:38Speaker 1: I feel like I don't feel like he's I don't
- 18:40Speaker 1: feel like he's over the hill. But I feel like
- 18:43Speaker 1: in today's NBA he's better. He'll score more if he's
- 18:47Speaker 1: the second option and they don't focus on him as much,
- 18:50Speaker 1: you know what I mean. Like Lebron isn't necessarily the
- 18:53Speaker 1: one anymore. Ad is you know you know what I mean?
- 18:56Speaker 1: Working on it. We're working on it. Dejonte, Derek Lannie,
- 18:59Speaker 1: We're working on it. Killed. Yeah, you got some young talent.
- 19:02Speaker 1: I just wish I just wish that San Antonio would
- 19:05Speaker 1: make moves like they did back in that day. It
- 19:07Speaker 1: seems like, you know, I don't know. I think Pop
- 19:11Speaker 1: should stay around forever, and if Pop leaves, I think
- 19:13Speaker 1: Becky Hammond should be the first female coach, you know
- 19:17Speaker 1: what I mean? Like then Becky, Yeah, that's a that's
- 19:20Speaker 1: a that's a misconception though, Like the Spurs never were
- 19:23Speaker 1: like a marquee free agent place. LaMarcus was the first
- 19:26Speaker 1: time we got a big name like that, Tam Duncan,
- 19:29Speaker 1: because you guys got David Robinson got injured and you
- 19:32Speaker 1: guys came in last place, and then you got Tim
- 19:34Speaker 1: Duncan in the draft. That's Tim, Tony Manu yeah, Toni
- 19:39Speaker 1: and Manu uh. And then after that, yeah, you know,
- 19:44Speaker 1: you've gone to European They've gone to European route for
- 19:47Speaker 1: the most part, and LaMarcus Alders was their biggest pickup.
- 19:49Speaker 1: All right, Kawhi, But you had Kawhi too and you
- 19:51Speaker 1: let them go. I can only I can only humans
- 19:55Speaker 1: myself for so long time, too much to be included.
- 20:01Speaker 1: I gave you your minute. I gave you your minute
- 20:03Speaker 1: of speaking in your secret tongues. Although you'll be happy
- 20:09Speaker 1: to know Shay that I am one degree of separation
- 20:11Speaker 1: from d Wade, who now owns the Utah Jazz. I
- 20:15Speaker 1: think it's safe to say that we are not friends yet,
- 20:18Speaker 1: but I have big plans for our friends soon enough.
- 20:21Speaker 1: It's coming out. Yes, um so, Shay, we wanted to
- 20:24Speaker 1: have you on because we always ask Shay listeners because
- 20:27Speaker 1: he is a wonderful writer and love Scrubs and always
- 20:33Speaker 1: says the thing's way more articulate than Donald and I
- 20:36Speaker 1: and I always at the beginning of the season say Shay,
- 20:39Speaker 1: which episode of season of this season do you want
- 20:42Speaker 1: to come on? And he, without hesitation, said, my life
- 20:45Speaker 1: and four cameras. And it really is a special episode.
- 20:48Speaker 1: I gotta say, I didn't remember the specifics of it,
- 20:52Speaker 1: but it is so clever and well done and funny.
- 20:56Speaker 1: There's a lot of funny moments that's absolutely right. Each
- 21:00Speaker 1: time y'all invite me on, which, as you said, is
- 21:02Speaker 1: once this season, I try and pick an episode that
- 21:04Speaker 1: A I like a lot, and B maybe a little
- 21:07Speaker 1: more importantly, will let me talk about a specific piece
- 21:11Speaker 1: or two of greatness within Scrubs. You know something that
- 21:15Speaker 1: Scrubs did in a way that other shows either weren't
- 21:17Speaker 1: doing yet or couldn't do as well. So yeah, when
- 21:20Speaker 1: you hit me up and you asked, and I said, oh,
- 21:22Speaker 1: we're doing season four, it's got to be my life
- 21:24Speaker 1: in four cameras because that episode, that episode really has
- 21:29Speaker 1: two very wonderful parson it that I was hoping that
- 21:31Speaker 1: three of us could talk about Number one. Obviously, this
- 21:35Speaker 1: is the this is one of the high concept episodes
- 21:38Speaker 1: that Scrubs put out. I just want to explain to
- 21:40Speaker 1: people because I always find out there's some people that
- 21:43Speaker 1: aren't super clear on the distinction between single camera and
- 21:46Speaker 1: multi camera or four cameras in this case, So I
- 21:48Speaker 1: just want to just quickly delineate that for people. So
- 21:51Speaker 1: when you hear a traditional sitcom, the old school kind
- 21:55Speaker 1: like Friends or How I Met Your Mother's or Cheers,
- 21:59Speaker 1: their shot like a play. There's an audience, they have
- 22:03Speaker 1: four or so cameras, and it's like you're doing a
- 22:06Speaker 1: play in front of an audience. Um, and that's how
- 22:09Speaker 1: half hour comedies were always made up until a certain
- 22:12Speaker 1: point when the what's called the single camera comedy started
- 22:16Speaker 1: to come out. Um. And my earliest from which is
- 22:20Speaker 1: not in front of lives, he shot like a movie
- 22:21Speaker 1: like Scrubs. Um. My earliest memory was one called um
- 22:27Speaker 1: what was the one? Um? Uh? The I was about
- 22:30Speaker 1: a kid um in high school. No, Wonder Years was
- 22:32Speaker 1: a very early one. But before Lewis Can't Lose? Do
- 22:36Speaker 1: you remember that show? I never watched it, but it
- 22:38Speaker 1: was Did you ever watch that, Shay? I did not? Yeah,
- 22:43Speaker 1: just in my memory as a as a TV lover,
- 22:46Speaker 1: it was. It was the start of Marca Lewis Can't Lose? Okay,
- 22:50Speaker 1: that was the first comedy I remembered that wasn't like
- 22:52Speaker 1: shot in front of a live audience. And then Wonder
- 22:54Speaker 1: Years was you know, a dramedy comedy. But um, but
- 22:57Speaker 1: again breaking the mold of of what that half hour
- 23:00Speaker 1: it could be. Alan mcbel Yeah, Ali mcpeel may have
- 23:04Speaker 1: been an hour show, right, I don't remember, Not that
- 23:07Speaker 1: it matters, but um but anyway, So so there you go.
- 23:11Speaker 1: That's that's just the rough difference. And you know the
- 23:13Speaker 1: sitcom is is is it even more heightened reality because
- 23:16Speaker 1: you're pausing for laughs And as we all know, sometimes
- 23:19Speaker 1: people kiss and the audience goes ooh, and then someone
- 23:23Speaker 1: comes in and they applause. They have entrance applause, and
- 23:26Speaker 1: it's like seeing a comedic play. Yes, Donald, I gotta
- 23:28Speaker 1: go back, though. I think I think we're missing a
- 23:31Speaker 1: lot of sitcoms that were single cam from back in
- 23:34Speaker 1: a day, like Mash, Gilligan's Island. Uh, those were all
- 23:40Speaker 1: single camera shows shot right now now. Donald's talking about
- 23:46Speaker 1: a bit of a hybrid. If you like Ganja, you know,
- 23:48Speaker 1: there's Sativa Indica, and then there's hybrids. Um, there are
- 23:53Speaker 1: hybrids like Mash and where they had a laugh track,
- 23:59Speaker 1: I think some man Actually they tried doing an audience
- 24:01Speaker 1: that for some reason, I know this tidbit, and then
- 24:03Speaker 1: they went back and forth and then they shot it
- 24:06Speaker 1: like a single camera show, but added the laugh track
- 24:08Speaker 1: because the audience back in the day sort of was
- 24:12Speaker 1: used to the style of where is the laugh? The
- 24:14Speaker 1: laugh tells us when to laugh? In so many words,
- 24:17Speaker 1: interesting tidbit about Mash, Donald Shit, Joel Daniel. They didn't
- 24:22Speaker 1: have the laugh track whenever they were in surgery. Did
- 24:26Speaker 1: you know that? I did not know. If you go
- 24:28Speaker 1: back and watch Mash, they have a laugh track now,
- 24:30Speaker 1: a laugh track again for those of you who is
- 24:32Speaker 1: just fake laughter. It m shows like like Mash would
- 24:36Speaker 1: have a laugh track, even though they weren't from an audience.
- 24:38Speaker 1: Or Gilligan's Island example a good example. Donald certain shows
- 24:42Speaker 1: are still sitcoms, but they just never brought bringing an audience.
- 24:45Speaker 1: I remember an alf being an example because spoilers, Alf
- 24:49Speaker 1: isn't real. He's a puppet and pretty hard to have
- 24:52Speaker 1: an audience. Sorry, Daniel Danel Alf was a puppet Alf. Yeah.
- 25:00Speaker 1: We always talk about Max right hating alf. I love that. Oh,
- 25:04Speaker 1: there's something special about Max Wright, the father who played
- 25:07Speaker 1: in the family hating Alfry. So now that we have
- 25:14Speaker 1: the clear delineations and this this episode is meant to
- 25:17Speaker 1: be an homage to the four camera sitcom Shay continue. Sorry. So,
- 25:22Speaker 1: so this is one of the first This is one
- 25:25Speaker 1: of the high concept episodes that y'all did, and in fact,
- 25:28Speaker 1: this is like the first big one, which is part
- 25:31Speaker 1: of the reason it was so impactful. You have this
- 25:32Speaker 1: one in season four, you have a Wizard of Oz
- 25:35Speaker 1: in season five, the musical in season six, Fairytal in
- 25:38Speaker 1: season seven, Sesame Street in season eight. Hadn't happened before
- 25:41Speaker 1: this one, like, not on this scale, and then it
- 25:43Speaker 1: happened in every season afterward. So this episode is a
- 25:47Speaker 1: is a legacy marker, really, and beyond that, it's just
- 25:50Speaker 1: an extremely good episode. You took all of the stuff
- 25:53Speaker 1: that Scrubs normally did, the jokes, the twists, the thing
- 25:57Speaker 1: where you make everyone feel safe and happy, and then
- 25:59Speaker 1: you drop a fucking four hundred pound anvil of sadness
- 26:03Speaker 1: on my head. Like you took all of that and
- 26:05Speaker 1: you turned it into this multicam sitcom and the crazy
- 26:09Speaker 1: thing is like rewatching it even now. It never felt
- 26:12Speaker 1: like y'all were doing it in a mean spirited way.
- 26:15Speaker 1: It was never like our show is better than these shows. Right,
- 26:18Speaker 1: that's all said. Well, you know that's well said shape
- 26:20Speaker 1: because you know, Bill Lawrence came up and sitcoms. He
- 26:24Speaker 1: loves sitcoms. He still makes it comes um that he's
- 26:27Speaker 1: got it. He's got a new one coming out ahead
- 26:30Speaker 1: of the Class remake coming out. So so he was
- 26:32Speaker 1: never like, oh, let's make fun of these our show
- 26:35Speaker 1: is better. The attitude was like, obviously, we're we're we're
- 26:38Speaker 1: laughing with it because they are heightened and they are silly.
- 26:40Speaker 1: The whole entrance applause, the whole uh you know, audience
- 26:44Speaker 1: going oh all that stuff. But but by the way,
- 26:47Speaker 1: in rewatching this sitcom version of this, I still found
- 26:50Speaker 1: it very funny. I mean I was laughing, not I
- 26:53Speaker 1: was laughing genuinely, not just at it, you know what
- 26:55Speaker 1: I mean? Yeah, yeah, yeah, it felt It felt to
- 26:58Speaker 1: me like like when you watched Scream. You remember going
- 27:02Speaker 1: to the theater and watching Scream, and when you left
- 27:05Speaker 1: you were like, man, whoever made that movie fucking loved
- 27:08Speaker 1: horror movies like love And that's what That's what this
- 27:11Speaker 1: feels like. Here felt like a bunch of people said, hey,
- 27:14Speaker 1: you know what, I want to write a love letter
- 27:16Speaker 1: to the sitcoms that I grew up watching. That meant
- 27:18Speaker 1: a lot to me. Let's do that. And then y'all
- 27:21Speaker 1: made this episode. So there's that piece of it, the
- 27:25Speaker 1: sort of obvious piece. The second part this is this
- 27:29Speaker 1: is a really great Turk and Carla relationship episode. I
- 27:32Speaker 1: absolutely agree with you. Yes, right, I think I think
- 27:35Speaker 1: I may have mentioned this before. I know I've written
- 27:38Speaker 1: it before. I can't remember if we talked about it
- 27:39Speaker 1: on here or not, But Turk and Carla are my
- 27:41Speaker 1: favorite TV couple that's ever been. They're they're higher up
- 27:45Speaker 1: on the list than than Jim and Pam, than from
- 27:48Speaker 1: the Office than Drey and Rainbow from Blackish Korean to
- 27:51Speaker 1: Panga Boy meets World, Jake and Amy and Brooklyn nine
- 27:54Speaker 1: and nine whoever like David and Patrick and Shitt's Creek
- 27:58Speaker 1: uncle Phil and both of the on vivs that relationship. Yeah, yeah,
- 28:04Speaker 1: Uncle Phil might be my favorite father figure for sure,
- 28:08Speaker 1: for sure. Yeah, and and the you go into i mean,
- 28:12Speaker 1: just speak to a minute, why what what resonates for
- 28:14Speaker 1: you as a lover of TV comedy so much about
- 28:17Speaker 1: that couple? You know what it is? They just do
- 28:20Speaker 1: such a good job. I'm going to say they like
- 28:22Speaker 1: I'm talking about Turk like it's a different person than
- 28:25Speaker 1: Donald's because it's just easier for me to absolutely they do.
- 28:28Speaker 1: They do such a good job of showing how relationships
- 28:31Speaker 1: are a supposed to be a little bit bumpy and
- 28:34Speaker 1: b how that bumpiness is precisely how you know a
- 28:38Speaker 1: couple is supposed to be together and that they're in love.
- 28:40Speaker 1: Because with Turk and Carlo, no matter what happens, when
- 28:43Speaker 1: we get to that inflection point, when we get to
- 28:45Speaker 1: one of those moments where one of them really has
- 28:48Speaker 1: to show up for the other one, they they always
- 28:51Speaker 1: come through and it's really hard to do that on
- 28:54Speaker 1: a show in a way that feels real, because you
- 28:57Speaker 1: can't just write the words on the page, like you
- 29:00Speaker 1: need two actors who can be warm with one another
- 29:03Speaker 1: and vulnerable with one another and funny with one another.
- 29:06Speaker 1: Like a lot of times, if two characters are in
- 29:08Speaker 1: a relationship on a TV show and they get into
- 29:11Speaker 1: an argument or a fight, or they have a stretch
- 29:12Speaker 1: where it's supposed to be they're supposed to be struggling
- 29:14Speaker 1: when the audience is watching it, it starts to feel like, man,
- 29:18Speaker 1: y'all should just just break up already, this isn't worth it.
- 29:20Speaker 1: And it never feels like that With Turk and Carla.
- 29:23Speaker 1: It always feels like they're headed in the right direction.
- 29:26Speaker 1: You know. Any argument that they have or disagreement or
- 29:30Speaker 1: fight is like a disguise. It's a chance for them
- 29:33Speaker 1: to get to know something else about the other person,
- 29:35Speaker 1: to become closer with that other person. I think my
- 29:39Speaker 1: favorite favorite overall moment actually happens a couple of episodes
- 29:44Speaker 1: after this one, when Carlo goes to visit her mom's
- 29:46Speaker 1: grave site and Turk and Carlo by this point, I've
- 29:48Speaker 1: been in a respot for a bit and Turk shows
- 29:50Speaker 1: up at the end and he tries to reconcile with
- 29:52Speaker 1: her and she's like I'm not ready, like not yet,
- 29:56Speaker 1: and he's just you see him beat up about it.
- 29:57Speaker 1: He's like okay, and he gets ready to leave and
- 30:00Speaker 1: she's like, wait, can you just sit with me for
- 30:02Speaker 1: a minute? And he stays and like that little moment.
- 30:04Speaker 1: This is twenty five thirty seconds, but you see them
- 30:07Speaker 1: go through so many different, like real life emotions. It
- 30:11Speaker 1: just feels like you're watching an actual, real relationship on TV.
- 30:14Speaker 1: And it's great. It's it's it's it's wonderful. You know,
- 30:18Speaker 1: Shay I wrote in this episode, uh for this one. Uh,
- 30:22Speaker 1: Carla and Turk crush cute in this episode, Like absolutely
- 30:26Speaker 1: even know they're having a hard time with their relationship.
- 30:30Speaker 1: They're so fucking cute. Her being jealous of j D
- 30:34Speaker 1: and his and his Jungle Fever relationship, are licking him, him,
- 30:39Speaker 1: singing him, singing, uh, the Sam Fond and Sun theme song,
- 30:43Speaker 1: the arm wrestling, and then when they decide, Joe, you
- 30:47Speaker 1: know what, let's kiss three times a day. And then
- 30:51Speaker 1: when they do it the first time right here, let's
- 30:54Speaker 1: let's make this. You know, they're just so cute. Uh
- 30:58Speaker 1: and and and you're what they go through at the
- 31:02Speaker 1: end of it. You never feel like they're going to
- 31:04Speaker 1: break up. You feel more like, oh, wow, they went
- 31:06Speaker 1: through a journey together exactly and they figured something out. Well.
- 31:10Speaker 1: That's what I think I really like about what Chase
- 31:12Speaker 1: said too, is that it isn't like, for dramatic TV
- 31:16Speaker 1: show reasons, we're going to always have you feel like
- 31:18Speaker 1: they're on the edge of a breaking up. It's a
- 31:21Speaker 1: real reality thing for a couple, especially a newly wed
- 31:24Speaker 1: couple settling into the reality of being in a lifelong
- 31:29Speaker 1: commitment with each other and then watching JD with some
- 31:32Speaker 1: you know, in the puppy dog phase of a relationship
- 31:35Speaker 1: where he's just like, we're we're racing to kiss each other,
- 31:38Speaker 1: you know, every day, and how that lands with a
- 31:41Speaker 1: couple that's kind of like, oh, is there something wrong
- 31:44Speaker 1: with us that we're not doing that anymore? And all
- 31:46Speaker 1: the things that are very real and I think all
- 31:48Speaker 1: people can relate to but but but done in in
- 31:50Speaker 1: a TV comedy way. But I think that's right. It's
- 31:52Speaker 1: it feels very relatable to people. And what's really what's
- 31:57Speaker 1: really impressive about the performance in this episode I think
- 32:00Speaker 1: is we watch them do two different versions of it.
- 32:02Speaker 1: We watched them do the serious one. They have that
- 32:05Speaker 1: that really great moment. Again, it's a fast it's like
- 32:08Speaker 1: three seconds there on screen, but they're sitting on the
- 32:10Speaker 1: couch and they don't say anything and he just reaches
- 32:12Speaker 1: his hand out and she puts her hand in his,
- 32:15Speaker 1: and it's like, like, I've done that exact thing. You
- 32:18Speaker 1: don't know what to say. All that you wanted, all
- 32:21Speaker 1: that you know is you need to let the other
- 32:22Speaker 1: person know, I'm we're in this together. Like, so you
- 32:24Speaker 1: have them doing that, but then you also have them
- 32:26Speaker 1: doing the like hokey, silly version of it in the
- 32:30Speaker 1: sitcom itself, they're doing both of them at the same time.
- 32:34Speaker 1: It's great. And like the start of the episode when
- 32:37Speaker 1: you have Turk singing the Sanford ands On song, Yeah,
- 32:39Speaker 1: let's get it, let's start, let's start, let's start. Nope,
- 32:43Speaker 1: I don't think anybody on the show is better at
- 32:46Speaker 1: being funny and a tiny amount of space than Turk is. Like,
- 32:49Speaker 1: he has an extremely high player efficiency rating. We're gonna
- 32:52Speaker 1: go back to basketball, like the average the average, Yeah,
- 32:57Speaker 1: the average player efficiency rating the NBA is like fifteen,
- 33:00Speaker 1: Turk is up there in the twenty five, twenty six,
- 33:02Speaker 1: twenty seven range with with MJ and Lebron and Shack
- 33:06Speaker 1: and Wilt like he needs this much spaces up there,
- 33:12Speaker 1: wights up there trying to get in my smart I. Uh.
- 33:16Speaker 1: I loved the fact that Turk was a huge Sandford
- 33:19Speaker 1: and Sun fan, because a lot of my comedy comes
- 33:23Speaker 1: from Red Fox and stuff. You know, he he probably
- 33:27Speaker 1: he's the king, right, It was him, then Richard, then Eddie,
- 33:31Speaker 1: and then you know what I mean, George, and then
- 33:34Speaker 1: you know, uh and then now we have a bunch
- 33:37Speaker 1: of people who pretty much copy those those uh four George, Eddie,
- 33:45Speaker 1: Richard and Red you know what I'm saying, And so
- 33:48Speaker 1: I love it. In the beginning of this episode, we're
- 33:50Speaker 1: clearly setting up, um the love of sitcoms that we have,
- 33:54Speaker 1: and it's very meta because we're we're we're a comedic
- 33:59Speaker 1: show that people watch to be cheered up and to
- 34:03Speaker 1: take their mind off things and to have a source
- 34:06Speaker 1: of humor when when they need cheering up. And the
- 34:10Speaker 1: episode starts with us so excited to gather around and
- 34:13Speaker 1: watch Sandford and the Sun, and then it's book ended
- 34:16Speaker 1: really beautifully after the end of this, you know, act
- 34:20Speaker 1: long fantasy with j D after such a stressful day
- 34:25Speaker 1: getting comfort from watching from comedy. So it's very, very,
- 34:29Speaker 1: very meta because you know, people told us over the years.
- 34:33Speaker 1: Every day Donald and I get messages about how this
- 34:37Speaker 1: show helped them through difficult times in their life. And
- 34:41Speaker 1: I mean I've had people say it saved their lives.
- 34:43Speaker 1: They were just they were down in the dumps and
- 34:45Speaker 1: they just binge Scrubs and it and it cheered them up.
- 34:47Speaker 1: And of course that means so much to us. But
- 34:49Speaker 1: I was very moved at the end that the show
- 34:52Speaker 1: sort of in a very meta way ends with JD
- 34:55Speaker 1: needing to be cheered up and he's comforted by TV comedy,
- 34:58Speaker 1: just like Scrubs is for other people. Bo Yeah, I well,
- 35:03Speaker 1: you know, I think we all have that in us.
- 35:05Speaker 1: There's something that you grew up on. I know, I
- 35:08Speaker 1: know it. There's something on television that you grew up
- 35:11Speaker 1: on that makes that made you feel comfortable no matter
- 35:15Speaker 1: what you know, and you find it as adults now
- 35:18Speaker 1: like Zach, you're really into documentaries now this is your
- 35:21Speaker 1: comfort food. My wife is into forty eight hours and
- 35:24Speaker 1: freaking the next you know, what I mean. Your wife
- 35:26Speaker 1: is texting me being like, I'm out of true crime docs.
- 35:28Speaker 1: What you got right? I'm serious, Like, it's there's a
- 35:32Speaker 1: comfort in finding your niche, your niche on television, you know,
- 35:37Speaker 1: whatever it is that you watch. There's comfort in knowing, well,
- 35:40Speaker 1: you know what, I had a stressful day, but I
- 35:42Speaker 1: can unwind and watch what I love. Yeah, you know,
- 35:45Speaker 1: you know it's wild is that. I'm I'm gonna bet
- 35:48Speaker 1: that everybody who goes and turns on this podcast to
- 35:52Speaker 1: listen to this thing like Scrubs is a show that
- 35:54Speaker 1: does that for them. I know That's how it is
- 35:56Speaker 1: for me. Like after a tough week, I'm like, man,
- 35:59Speaker 1: let me watch like six episodes of Scrubs and fall
- 36:01Speaker 1: asleep on the couch, and that's gonna make me just
- 36:04Speaker 1: feel better. You know that makes me so happy, especially,
- 36:07Speaker 1: I mean, I love we love hearing that from anyone,
- 36:09Speaker 1: but from someone like you who really knows television and
- 36:13Speaker 1: really knows TV comedy. Um, that makes us feel extra special.
- 36:17Speaker 1: So let's just dive in. Um, I laughed out loud. Donald.
- 36:20Speaker 1: Do you remember the first of all, when you sing
- 36:21Speaker 1: the Sanford and Sun song with your own lyrics? Was
- 36:25Speaker 1: that was that written? Or did you make that up? A? Okay,
- 36:28Speaker 1: so Bill made Bill made up the song? Right, Bill
- 36:31Speaker 1: made up? Buy it down? Now it is time to
- 36:35Speaker 1: watch the show. Yes, it started don't be licking me
- 36:40Speaker 1: no More? And then I made up mad of fact,
- 36:43Speaker 1: could you get me a handy? Why it's so funny? Now?
- 36:49Speaker 1: Did you have did they? I was just wondering you
- 36:52Speaker 1: probably not gonna remember, but like, did you did they
- 36:54Speaker 1: play you the song? Because you're singing it in the
- 36:56Speaker 1: key perfectly and we didn't have it on set, so
- 37:00Speaker 1: I'm sure I went back and redid it in post.
- 37:06Speaker 1: You wouldn't have been able to because your lips. I mean,
- 37:08Speaker 1: while you're saying the key, you think the key? Yeah,
- 37:11Speaker 1: because I just was impressed that you you're singing an acapella.
- 37:14Speaker 1: But then your tempo and the key are the exact
- 37:17Speaker 1: right thing for the melody. Well, you could change the
- 37:20Speaker 1: tempo easily, but you can, and you can change. Maybe
- 37:27Speaker 1: we just know that song so well that you just
- 37:29Speaker 1: can find the key. Yeah, you know, I, like I said,
- 37:33Speaker 1: one of my favorites. It's very funny. You made me
- 37:35Speaker 1: laugh and um, matter of fact, can you get me
- 37:39Speaker 1: a handy? Wipe. Now, I think of all the memes
- 37:42Speaker 1: and gifts that get sent to Donald and I on
- 37:44Speaker 1: social media and that I see on the web. One
- 37:46Speaker 1: of the most common of all is the arm wrestling bit. Okay,
- 37:50Speaker 1: now this this was ad libbed completely by all Right,
- 37:53Speaker 1: tell me tell the story because clearly, clearly it goes
- 37:56Speaker 1: without saying fans love this moment. Okay. So there's a
- 37:59Speaker 1: movie called The Warriors came out We've spoken about a
- 38:03Speaker 1: long time ago, right, Warriors come out and play right,
- 38:07Speaker 1: And in it there's this uh gang called the Orphans,
- 38:13Speaker 1: and the Warriors tangle with the Orphans and kind of
- 38:16Speaker 1: get their asses kicked by these by this gang. Right,
- 38:20Speaker 1: And as they're leaving, this one character like looks like
- 38:26Speaker 1: the character that you look like, punch in the face
- 38:28Speaker 1: and they crumble easily. Goes you see what you get?
- 38:32Speaker 1: Warriors the Orphans. And I was, you know, do you
- 38:39Speaker 1: know the movie as well? He does. Yeah, it's a
- 38:41Speaker 1: great movie. And so when I saw that in my
- 38:45Speaker 1: in my neighborhood. You know, I grew up in Hell's Kitchen.
- 38:49Speaker 1: Warriors like is New York City, So like people that
- 38:52Speaker 1: lived in my building starred in The Warriors. You know
- 38:55Speaker 1: that it was. It wasn't just warriors. I actually knew
- 39:00Speaker 1: people that were warriors that lived to the end too.
- 39:03Speaker 1: It was amazing, right, And uh so this was like
- 39:08Speaker 1: one of those movies that we always quoted, you know,
- 39:10Speaker 1: like uh, Ajax running and he's like and other dudes like, oh,
- 39:15Speaker 1: I don't think I could make it. I'm tired, and
- 39:17Speaker 1: he goes good because I'm sick of running from these
- 39:20Speaker 1: whimps and turns around it just starts making people knocking
- 39:24Speaker 1: people out, right, Like I just loved that movie growing up,
- 39:27Speaker 1: and uh and this was an opportunity. I knew I
- 39:31Speaker 1: needed to do something here, and you know, I was like,
- 39:36Speaker 1: I'll call on the warriors and I did. So it's
- 39:40Speaker 1: so funny because Jad and Kylie are being so adorable
- 39:43Speaker 1: and cute, see just like a new couple rubbing noses
- 39:45Speaker 1: and oh, you beat me. And then what shows the
- 39:48Speaker 1: contrast to to Turk and Carlin Moore than that Cameron
- 39:51Speaker 1: Dolly's over and he's you don't just you don't just win, dude,
- 39:54Speaker 1: you slam her arm. She was well, I told her
- 40:01Speaker 1: when I told her I was gonna do it, right.
- 40:03Speaker 1: I told Judy that I was gonna do it. So
- 40:06Speaker 1: she even acts like I slam her hand down, Like really,
- 40:09Speaker 1: all I just do is this right? You know, put
- 40:12Speaker 1: my hand down real fast. She sells it with the
- 40:14Speaker 1: prep fall of the falling out of screen and stuff.
- 40:17Speaker 1: I thought. I was like, I was like, well, he
- 40:19Speaker 1: really fucking nailed her. And then I thought, actually it
- 40:22Speaker 1: was an Ultimate Warrior WWF thing. I didn't know your Warriors. No,
- 40:26Speaker 1: it was from actually the movie The Warriors. Well that's
- 40:29Speaker 1: fucking hilarious, dude, I laughed out loud. Now I also
- 40:32Speaker 1: laughed out loud when um Kylie, Yeah, I made that up.
- 40:36Speaker 1: We don't on an improv we're on an improv role
- 40:39Speaker 1: this day because she comes over Monday, Wednesday, Friday she
- 40:43Speaker 1: takes a cab over here, and Tuesday Thursday, I scooted
- 40:45Speaker 1: it to my baby man. Yeah, I j D. I
- 40:57Speaker 1: mean other than Elliott, I don't think he's been this
- 41:00Speaker 1: crazy about a girl, right, you know he's really into her. Yeah,
- 41:04Speaker 1: but that's because she's a master kisser, you know what
- 41:07Speaker 1: I mean? To be able to keep because to be
- 41:09Speaker 1: able to keep somebody that low, You guys are in
- 41:13Speaker 1: a relationship. You're not sleeping together yet, you know all,
- 41:16Speaker 1: you do know that maybe some time has passed and
- 41:18Speaker 1: she finally let me have sex. I don't know. Well
- 41:20Speaker 1: this is this, Well the episode after after this, you
- 41:24Speaker 1: get kicked out of the apartment and she's like you
- 41:26Speaker 1: should leave. I'm sorry, I'm cut. You are correct because
- 41:29Speaker 1: we went out of order. I'm sorry. Yes, we are,
- 41:31Speaker 1: we are, we are. We are only kissing her. Yeah.
- 41:34Speaker 1: And so to be able to keep somebody around that long,
- 41:38Speaker 1: whether it be male or female, without giving up the
- 41:43Speaker 1: but you got to be a chance a lot. You
- 41:45Speaker 1: have to tickle their brain with conversation and right whatever
- 41:49Speaker 1: it is, but then with imagination of what it's going
- 41:52Speaker 1: to be like, and then the kissing is phenomenal. Yeah.
- 41:55Speaker 1: But also, I mean it's so it's such a it's
- 41:58Speaker 1: so exciting, right, like dragged something out that long and
- 42:01Speaker 1: have it just be Oh my god, what's gonna happen
- 42:04Speaker 1: when we finally do. I'll tell you what's going to
- 42:07Speaker 1: happen in a couple of seconds. Okay, thank you, Donald,
- 42:13Speaker 1: That's what I'm talking about. Say, we have a soundboard
- 42:16Speaker 1: since you were last on. It allows me to play
- 42:19Speaker 1: I'm aware. Do you do y'all ever do a thing?
- 42:23Speaker 1: Where you're watching something or you're like super into it
- 42:27Speaker 1: anything a TV show, movie, an album, you just like
- 42:30Speaker 1: start looking for meaning and maybe moments where there isn't
- 42:34Speaker 1: like a deeper meaning because this, this is what happened
- 42:37Speaker 1: to me when I was watching rewatching it to get
- 42:39Speaker 1: ready for this is they have the shot that you
- 42:41Speaker 1: were just talking about where it's j D and Kylie
- 42:44Speaker 1: and Turk and Carla and they're all at once and
- 42:46Speaker 1: you see this like new young, happy couple being all
- 42:49Speaker 1: love you, kissing and flirty. And then you see the
- 42:52Speaker 1: like you know, years later version of it, and when
- 42:55Speaker 1: you're watching it, you're like if if you don't know
- 42:57Speaker 1: any better, you go, oh, this is like what you
- 42:59Speaker 1: should aspire to. Is what's on what's happening on the left,
- 43:02Speaker 1: and you don't realize only one of these couples is
- 43:04Speaker 1: going to make it through the end of the seat,
- 43:06Speaker 1: like they're gonna end up together, and it's the one
- 43:08Speaker 1: on the right, whether they're whether not like playing or
- 43:11Speaker 1: or they're just being very truthful with one another. Turk
- 43:14Speaker 1: is doing his thing, Carla looks absolutely fed up with it,
- 43:18Speaker 1: but like she kind of expected it as well, Like
- 43:20Speaker 1: you know what I'm saying, and she's like, oh, this
- 43:22Speaker 1: is this is what you should be trying to get to,
- 43:24Speaker 1: not this fake version over here, right, that's fake shit.
- 43:27Speaker 1: I agree with you that fake shit never works. And
- 43:30Speaker 1: it's and it's and it's a freaking it's not only
- 43:32Speaker 1: a phase. There's a there's a it's a bit also,
- 43:36Speaker 1: you know. Yeah, it's like it's we're being fake. It's
- 43:40Speaker 1: not fake. There's something when something's brand new we've all experienced.
- 43:45Speaker 1: There's just you're you can you're just intoxicated, you're drunk
- 43:48Speaker 1: on on the fun of something new. Then. But that's
- 43:51Speaker 1: but that's not real. That's not a committed relationship over
- 43:55Speaker 1: years that takes work, as we all know. But I
- 43:57Speaker 1: don't I think I don't. I wouldn't say that it's
- 43:59Speaker 1: not real. It's just it's you're high. I feel like
- 44:02Speaker 1: if you do that type of stuff in front of people,
- 44:05Speaker 1: you're doing a bit. That's just me personally. I feel
- 44:09Speaker 1: like when I see a young couples, like out at
- 44:12Speaker 1: a restaurant doing something like that, I'm just like, just
- 44:16Speaker 1: send me a text after y'all too getting your first
- 44:18Speaker 1: fight about like the mortgage payment, and let me let
- 44:20Speaker 1: me let me know what life looks like right then, right, yeah, yeah,
- 44:24Speaker 1: but we've all been there. I'm not saying you're in
- 44:26Speaker 1: public going no, you're the doodle bug, but you know,
- 44:32Speaker 1: all right, so then there's the crowd all shows up
- 44:34Speaker 1: because if there's an E. Coli scare and everybody in
- 44:39Speaker 1: town wherever this takes place thinks they have it and
- 44:43Speaker 1: and which is very much like what happened early on
- 44:47Speaker 1: in in uh, what we just went through this past year.
- 44:52Speaker 1: In the beginning, it seemed like the lines were like
- 44:54Speaker 1: if you had a if you had a sniffle, you
- 44:57Speaker 1: would run to the hospital, like, hey, look, we to
- 45:00Speaker 1: check to see if I got uh COVID. I never
- 45:03Speaker 1: went to the hospital, but I thought I had it
- 45:04Speaker 1: like ten times over the I would like feel tired
- 45:07Speaker 1: and be like, oh, this is it. I'm abnormally tired.
- 45:12Speaker 1: This is it. Yeah, I'm sure that happened to you. Donald.
- 45:16Speaker 1: Oh absolutely, Jay. Did you ever think you had it
- 45:18Speaker 1: over the course of the pandemic? Um, Yeah, anytime, Like
- 45:23Speaker 1: if I felt even one percent weird about anything, or
- 45:26Speaker 1: if I just saw like a thing like if someone
- 45:29Speaker 1: coughed on TV, I'd be like, I think I got it.
- 45:31Speaker 1: Now right. It definitely definitely reached me. Yeah, it was
- 45:35Speaker 1: the same way. Um um alright, So Jake, so JD
- 45:40Speaker 1: is crowdsurfing, which I thought was funny. He's crowdsurfing all
- 45:43Speaker 1: the people that think they have E. Coli. And then
- 45:46Speaker 1: I go, whoa, Grandma, that's my no fly zone. Well
- 45:49Speaker 1: not just that, this has also cracked me up. I
- 45:51Speaker 1: hope I don't have dog flu. By the way, yes,
- 45:57Speaker 1: let me get a yes. Yes, that is on Primetime TV.
- 46:01Speaker 1: That is a did JD fuck rowdy joke? Yes? Yes?
- 46:08Speaker 1: Because yeah, which is so crazy that that that got true.
- 46:13Speaker 1: I don't think the censors God not just as a
- 46:18Speaker 1: dead dead dead joke. The censor. The censor yawned during
- 46:24Speaker 1: that moment, and it didn't catch the joke because Cox says,
- 46:28Speaker 1: you know, some of these flues these people think they have,
- 46:31Speaker 1: you'd actually have to copulate with the animal in order
- 46:33Speaker 1: to get it. He's being sarcastic. I imagine who knows.
- 46:37Speaker 1: And then he leaves and Jad's like, hope, I don't
- 46:39Speaker 1: have dog flu, which means that jadrowdy probably or I
- 46:45Speaker 1: don't or a dog of some sort. No, I don't
- 46:47Speaker 1: think he's fucking random dogs. But first, I don't think
- 46:50Speaker 1: it's yeah only I don't think. First of all, let's
- 46:55Speaker 1: talk about it. Rowdy's a boy, so this would mean
- 46:59Speaker 1: that jey Um had anal sex with Rowdy. Yes, as
- 47:04Speaker 1: I recall Rowdy's taxes, I mean anis was non existent.
- 47:10Speaker 1: That doesn't mean you can't cut a little hole. What
- 47:14Speaker 1: is happening right now? I don't know. We don't have
- 47:20Speaker 1: to cut it, but let's stop now. All right, Well,
- 47:22Speaker 1: I'm just saying I'm ladies and gentlemen before you think
- 47:25Speaker 1: we're going too far. There is a joke where JD
- 47:27Speaker 1: appears to be concerned that he has dog flew from
- 47:30Speaker 1: having tonight on jokes that wouldn't be on the show
- 47:36Speaker 1: in twenty twenty one. All right, Um, so no tongue
- 47:41Speaker 1: before ten. That's a rule that you and Carla have.
- 47:45Speaker 1: That's bullshit. But I don't think you're really throwing tongue
- 47:48Speaker 1: around with Casey before ten. All right, that's I mean,
- 47:50Speaker 1: I feel it may not be a rule, but it's
- 47:52Speaker 1: sort of like in practice, it's too early for time.
- 47:55Speaker 1: If I wake up in the morning, yeah, and the
- 47:57Speaker 1: mood is right, and she's into the mood too, tongue
- 48:01Speaker 1: about tongues are going everywhere? Is your scope involved or
- 48:04Speaker 1: you or I don't mind, I don't mind my wife
- 48:07Speaker 1: one in breath, Okay, you just go right in right
- 48:11Speaker 1: when you in love, you don't give a shit about that.
- 48:13Speaker 1: You can get past that. That's easy to get past.
- 48:17Speaker 1: I'm still in the phase. I get up and have
- 48:19Speaker 1: my morning pe I just have a little shot of scope.
- 48:21Speaker 1: So so my breath's good. Okay, Well, good for you.
- 48:25Speaker 1: You guys are congratulations. Um, allow me to present man
- 48:31Speaker 1: not caring, says Cox. Yes, and then and then the
- 48:36Speaker 1: whole joke with Jordan and Cox about and and and
- 48:41Speaker 1: Elliott about how Elliot is saying the exact same things
- 48:46Speaker 1: that Jordan said last night. Carla, Carla, oh yes, Carlin,
- 48:51Speaker 1: it says that that's right. Yeah, that that had me laughing.
- 48:54Speaker 1: And then the last one Okay, now it's getting spooky. Yea,
- 48:56Speaker 1: that's three third step, the third one, Yeah, that was clever.
- 49:04Speaker 1: And now Deontay, who we just had on the show
- 49:06Speaker 1: with another line. We just we just spoke about how
- 49:09Speaker 1: Deontay was a hustler and knew how to get lines,
- 49:11Speaker 1: and here he is without his pooka shells but he
- 49:14Speaker 1: has a line, want to play some ball? Yeah, Hey, Turk,
- 49:17Speaker 1: want to go outside and play some He had a
- 49:19Speaker 1: lot of lines too, and he put it together. Yeah.
- 49:23Speaker 1: I didn't recognize him without his pooka shell joker. But
- 49:28Speaker 1: maybe his character doesn't wear him when he plays basketball. Yeah,
- 49:31Speaker 1: it might be a little too dangerous. Yeah, they might
- 49:32Speaker 1: be chase. They probably chase or choke choke. They chamber joke.
- 49:38Speaker 1: So Turk's trying to get out of his ritual, newly
- 49:41Speaker 1: planned ritual to make out with Carla regularly because he
- 49:45Speaker 1: possibly basketball. Yeah, but the first time they the first
- 49:47Speaker 1: time they kiss, it's hilarious because now we're going through
- 49:50Speaker 1: the hospital and there he runs into a long haired gentleman,
- 49:53Speaker 1: she runs into a bald head lady, and then immediately
- 49:56Speaker 1: after that, Cox runs into a lady that looks like
- 50:00Speaker 1: Kelsoe from behind. I thought that was great. I also
- 50:04Speaker 1: laughed when when when Turk and Carla finally meet each
- 50:09Speaker 1: other and they're like, where were you and they're expressing
- 50:13Speaker 1: where they were. It kind of sounds like when Harry
- 50:15Speaker 1: met Sally. I was on the second floor of the
- 50:18Speaker 1: Empire State Building. He was on the first. I traveled
- 50:22Speaker 1: all the way and they're doing it at the same time. Hilarious.
- 50:25Speaker 1: I laughed, really heard at that. Yeah, yeah, that was
- 50:28Speaker 1: well done. And I think they must have you know
- 50:30Speaker 1: that woman who has who had the shaved head from behind,
- 50:33Speaker 1: It so looked like you that I think that they
- 50:35Speaker 1: must have like used you for the behind shot first. Yeah, yeah,
- 50:40Speaker 1: because yeah, absolutely absolutely. Um all right, so then we
- 50:45Speaker 1: cut to this awesome epic fantasy and we see that waits.
- 50:51Speaker 1: We're missing some things though ahead. Why is Frank still
- 50:54Speaker 1: wearing those pants? First of all, the dude loses two
- 50:56Speaker 1: hundred and thirty pounds and it's still walking around the
- 50:59Speaker 1: house to brag how much weight he lost every day
- 51:03Speaker 1: every day. Listen, if you lost that much weight, you
- 51:08Speaker 1: would be so proud you'd wear those pants. Well, you know,
- 51:11Speaker 1: I put a belt on. At least he's just walking
- 51:14Speaker 1: around holding him like this, holding him out with his thumb.
- 51:16Speaker 1: By the way, speaking of losing weight, do you know
- 51:18Speaker 1: Ron Funcious, the amazing stand up comedian. Oh, he's lost
- 51:21Speaker 1: a ton of weight. Dude, he's he was, He's in
- 51:23Speaker 1: Cheaper by the dozen with me and he you can't
- 51:26Speaker 1: I didn't recognize him really, so and and and His
- 51:29Speaker 1: trainer was Jorgan DeMay, who's bills trainer who helped him.
- 51:33Speaker 1: But yeah, he dude, he I don't know how much
- 51:35Speaker 1: weight he lost, but he's an inspiration. He he would
- 51:38Speaker 1: work very hard. He worked very super funny as a
- 51:41Speaker 1: as King Shark on the Harley Quinn Show. Is that
- 51:44Speaker 1: who plays King Shark? Yeah, he does a lot of
- 51:49Speaker 1: In fact, just as I was wowing the kids with
- 51:51Speaker 1: the chicken little he, I guess he does one of
- 51:53Speaker 1: the trolls. So then he tried to get in on
- 51:57Speaker 1: my game and upstage me by being a troll voice.
- 51:59Speaker 1: He has the best He has one of the best
- 52:01Speaker 1: lines and trolls a pinky promise. Dang, he's so is
- 52:11Speaker 1: man and how and also the last thing before we
- 52:15Speaker 1: get into the into the fantasy sequence, the janitor knows
- 52:19Speaker 1: everyone because he reads their files. Yeah, and so he's
- 52:22Speaker 1: able to tell what's going on with the three or
- 52:26Speaker 1: four people in the in the hospital cafeteria because he's
- 52:30Speaker 1: read their files. Yeah. Now it's funny that the janitor
- 52:33Speaker 1: is talking about all the different people that work in
- 52:35Speaker 1: the cafeteria and who to fire, but he doesn't ever
- 52:37Speaker 1: bring up his best friend Troy, right or Margo. Well,
- 52:43Speaker 1: crazy Eyes Margo. Is she not the cashier? No, that's
- 52:46Speaker 1: a different name. I don't know why they didn't call
- 52:48Speaker 1: in Troy and Crazy Eyes Margo. You'd think they would
- 52:51Speaker 1: have loved the cafeteria shout out yeah. Now. Also, according
- 52:55Speaker 1: to the to the janitor, there's only three people that
- 52:58Speaker 1: work in the cafeteria. I feel like there's more. Well yeah,
- 53:01Speaker 1: and then and then Clay Akon shows up. Do you
- 53:03Speaker 1: remember Clay aken Um? He. I remember Clay is allergic
- 53:07Speaker 1: to something or several things, and it was very serious,
- 53:10Speaker 1: like no messing around. I think it's nuts and or
- 53:13Speaker 1: other things. But we had a whole we had a
- 53:15Speaker 1: whole list of instructions, like to be safe around Clay.
- 53:19Speaker 1: It was like, don't look him in the eye. He's
- 53:20Speaker 1: allergic to that. Yeah, if you had a nuts yesterday,
- 53:23Speaker 1: if you had if you had peanuts yesterday, and you
- 53:26Speaker 1: made eye contact with Clay, he'll explode. No, I mean
- 53:31Speaker 1: making up American Idol, your favorite show, I know, and
- 53:35Speaker 1: his and his voice is beautiful when he sings you
- 53:38Speaker 1: and Carlos song in the Fantasy. But um, yeah, I
- 53:41Speaker 1: just remember that Clay was was very nice. But I
- 53:43Speaker 1: remember like he he does have some sort of very
- 53:47Speaker 1: serious no messing around um allergy we were warned about.
- 53:52Speaker 1: Let's go to break real quick. Oh yes, break right
- 53:55Speaker 1: back with Sha Serrano, and we're back. We're back, We're back,
- 54:06Speaker 1: We're back. So okay, so we go to this fantasy
- 54:09Speaker 1: now in the world of the sitcom, we're sort of
- 54:11Speaker 1: saying that everything's a bit heightened as they are in sitcoms. Like,
- 54:15Speaker 1: you know, no one has an apartment like Monica's apartment, right,
- 54:19Speaker 1: Well I disagree now, so okay, So here's the thing.
- 54:22Speaker 1: This is what I've learned. Okay, I forgot about this.
- 54:25Speaker 1: I forgot about this. But I grew up with a
- 54:27Speaker 1: lot of people who had losts in New York City
- 54:33Speaker 1: and who had a really big apartments in New York City,
- 54:38Speaker 1: and it was all rent controlled back in the day.
- 54:41Speaker 1: So like, let's say you lived in the apartment for
- 54:43Speaker 1: over thirty years, you're still paying very little rent on it,
- 54:47Speaker 1: as as the property value has gone up. So I
- 54:52Speaker 1: know people who have it's like Monica's loft and affordable,
- 54:57Speaker 1: very very yeah, very similar situations like Monica does on Friends,
- 55:03Speaker 1: and I pooh pooed on that for the longest, Like
- 55:05Speaker 1: that's impossible. But then when I think back, holy shit, no,
- 55:09Speaker 1: that's real. I know. I know people who have like
- 55:12Speaker 1: lost the size of the loft in ghost you know
- 55:16Speaker 1: what I mean, where it's just like it's literally a
- 55:18Speaker 1: warehouse's pillers and stuff like that, you know what I mean.
- 55:22Speaker 1: Like I remember I grew up with people that had
- 55:26Speaker 1: that being like, dude, your bathroom is a mile away,
- 55:29Speaker 1: how do you make it there at night? You know?
- 55:32Speaker 1: Just putting it out there, all right. So, but needless
- 55:35Speaker 1: to say, the sets and reality of sitcoms are heightened,
- 55:38Speaker 1: and we're spoofing that. That's why they built a version
- 55:41Speaker 1: of our set, which wasn't a set, It was a
- 55:43Speaker 1: real hospitals as you as we've told you. We built
- 55:47Speaker 1: that on a sitcom stage in front of a live audience.
- 55:50Speaker 1: So the lobby and ice you are are are there,
- 55:54Speaker 1: but they're you know, they're more colorful, they're less realistic
- 55:59Speaker 1: than the real thing. Um. And then of course all
- 56:03Speaker 1: the women have cleavage and their and their brows are showing,
- 56:06Speaker 1: and Sarah's in a short scourge, and so's Judy. Judy
- 56:11Speaker 1: is looking like at yes, the ladies are all looking
- 56:14Speaker 1: very um, sexy and there's even a naked man that
- 56:18Speaker 1: was in the background for no reason other than to
- 56:22Speaker 1: make sure there were people that like men had something
- 56:25Speaker 1: to look at. It even the background changed, you know
- 56:27Speaker 1: what I mean, it went from the normal background that
- 56:29Speaker 1: we had and it you know, Central Casting got the
- 56:32Speaker 1: call we don't want the normal. We're gonna pay the
- 56:33Speaker 1: extra twenty five dollars and you give us, send us
- 56:37Speaker 1: the premiums we should probably shouldn't phrase it. That's the truth. Well, okay,
- 56:45Speaker 1: am I wrong? U? I think there is now no
- 56:49Speaker 1: You are right in that if you want sexy people,
- 56:52Speaker 1: that you pay more money for sexy people, which I
- 56:56Speaker 1: guess is capitalism. But that's a real thing. Yes, wild,
- 57:01Speaker 1: that's wild. Well yeah, yeah, if you want any specialty,
- 57:04Speaker 1: if it's like I need jugglers or I need um.
- 57:07Speaker 1: You know, the joke is, she's a hot girl, quote unquote,
- 57:11Speaker 1: they're gonna hire a model. They're gonna hire a juggler,
- 57:13Speaker 1: you know. So there's a there's so in this when
- 57:16Speaker 1: they cuts the naked man who's got all these muscles
- 57:18Speaker 1: and he's supposed to be sexy, he's a niche. So yeah,
- 57:21Speaker 1: he's a special he's a specialty. If you will, so
- 57:23Speaker 1: you're paying more money for You can't just say, oh,
- 57:26Speaker 1: bring me a person who might have muscles. You know,
- 57:30Speaker 1: you're gonna select the guy from a picture and he's
- 57:32Speaker 1: been chosen because he's a specific thing. Yes, that's interesting,
- 57:37Speaker 1: but that's a more delicate way to phrase it. Then well,
- 57:40Speaker 1: bring me the premiums. Sorry, but it's true. I remember
- 57:49Speaker 1: reading an article about like there was some company in
- 57:51Speaker 1: la who they had gathered together all of the like
- 57:55Speaker 1: Mexicans who look like trollos or gangsters or whatever, and
- 57:58Speaker 1: if you wanted one for your movie, you had to
- 57:59Speaker 1: go to them to get it. Yeah, I'm sure, And
- 58:02Speaker 1: that's okay, that's a real thing. That's neat. Well, also,
- 58:05Speaker 1: I don't know, I don't know as a real thing,
- 58:06Speaker 1: but I imagine that's true. I'm sure it is in
- 58:09Speaker 1: the Orthodox Jewish background world. You know, a lot of
- 58:13Speaker 1: those people who are super religious are certainly not going
- 58:15Speaker 1: to go do background work. So there's a whole niche
- 58:17Speaker 1: of background people in New York particularly that have the
- 58:21Speaker 1: beards and and and know and I even probably have
- 58:24Speaker 1: the outfit and know how to dress up like an
- 58:25Speaker 1: Orthodox Jew because there's so much work for Orthodox Jewish
- 58:29Speaker 1: background in New York Stories. You know, I thought Neil's
- 58:33Speaker 1: entrance was amazing. Yes, so again everyone's everyone's outfits are
- 58:38Speaker 1: are colorful and bright. And Neil comes into entrance applause,
- 58:42Speaker 1: which is a very funny sitcom thing where when someone enters,
- 58:47Speaker 1: they not everyone, but some people get applause. And his
- 58:52Speaker 1: applause was his applause was like all the applause that
- 58:54Speaker 1: you hear in this is pretty much genuine, like they've
- 58:58Speaker 1: clapped for a really long time. And he had to
- 59:00Speaker 1: point at you and everything to you at the time
- 59:03Speaker 1: go by. Another thing in the sitcom world, a person
- 59:07Speaker 1: has to stall for the for the laughter or applause
- 59:11Speaker 1: to die down right, like you have to like thump
- 59:13Speaker 1: for like he's pointing at them, he's looking around right.
- 59:17Speaker 1: And we really shot this in from of Life only
- 59:18Speaker 1: its like we said, and they were big Scrubs fans,
- 59:20Speaker 1: and so we this really was genuinely they were really laughing.
- 59:25Speaker 1: We we did sort of like when I come out
- 59:27Speaker 1: later with the with the we'll talk, we'll get to it,
- 59:29Speaker 1: but with the Spider Man face paint, like we saved that.
- 59:32Speaker 1: So it was a surprise for the audience. So we
- 59:34Speaker 1: really did kind of try and do it like they
- 59:37Speaker 1: really would in a sitcom. We actually shot at like
- 59:40Speaker 1: a real sitcom. Also, there was there were not a
- 59:42Speaker 1: lot of takes at this for this, there's like one
- 59:45Speaker 1: or two takes and then we moved on um and
- 59:48Speaker 1: and we rehearsed it like a sitcom also, so uh,
- 59:54Speaker 1: what's interesting is when you do uh, it's shot in order.
- 59:58Speaker 1: That's the one thing that sitcom are done. They're always
- 1:00:01Speaker 1: shot in order so that the audience can follow along.
- 1:00:05Speaker 1: And that's what we did with this. We started from
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: you know, where they're around the patient at the bed,
- 1:00:13Speaker 1: and we went directly to the end to where he
- 1:00:15Speaker 1: passes out with you know. And when you're not working
- 1:00:19Speaker 1: in those scenes, you're usually off in your trailers, so
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: you don't necessarily experience how the audience is unless you're
- 1:00:25Speaker 1: hanging out on set. It's it's it's really interesting. This
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: was my first time experiencing what it was really like
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: to do sitcom work, because after that I went onto
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: the ex's and it was it was exactly like how
- 1:00:39Speaker 1: we shot this episode. The other thing we had they
- 1:00:43Speaker 1: had with sitcoms is a warm up guy. So if
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: you've never been to a live taping. They have this
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: comedian who interacts with the crowd. You get everyone in
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: a silly mood because they want the audience to be
- 1:00:53Speaker 1: gigli and silly, and you know, they keep the ac
- 1:00:56Speaker 1: super crank, so it's like, you know, you have energies
- 1:00:59Speaker 1: and there's a guy and every time, because there's a
- 1:01:00Speaker 1: lot of downtime, so while they're moving the cameras, while
- 1:01:02Speaker 1: they're just you don't want the audience slumping in their seats,
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: seemed getting tired and being like let's go home. Want them,
- 1:01:08Speaker 1: you want them gold and you want them giggly. So
- 1:01:11Speaker 1: they have this comedian who's you know, doing jokes and
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: competitions with the audience and throwing our T shirts. It's
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: like it's like a hype man. And so we even
- 1:01:18Speaker 1: had that guy you remember that Donald, Yeah, I do.
- 1:01:21Speaker 1: There's one guy who was really good at it um
- 1:01:24Speaker 1: passed away. You had a guy at the Ex's when
- 1:01:29Speaker 1: name was well, yeah that was Alan. But Brodie Stevens
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: was one of the great audience warm you know, he
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: would warm up an audience. He was a great stand
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: up comic. Also he's a good stand up comic, but
- 1:01:42Speaker 1: he was a great audience, Like he would warm up
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: the audience so well. He was really good at it.
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: I just wanted to show he's he passed away a
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: few years ago, but I just wanted to shout him out,
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: you know, for all of you people out there who
- 1:01:55Speaker 1: know who he is. He was a special one. It's
- 1:01:58Speaker 1: a very specific skill set because you're doing stand up,
- 1:02:01Speaker 1: but obviously it's got to be PG. You're not doing
- 1:02:04Speaker 1: anything racy. You're also trying to like, uh, interact with everyone,
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: get them involved, and you're sort of doing little mini
- 1:02:10Speaker 1: contests and then at any moment they'll say, the crew
- 1:02:13Speaker 1: will will say we're ready and you have to stop.
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: And then they'll do a scene and okay, we have
- 1:02:17Speaker 1: another five minutes of downtime here, I'm gonna do a
- 1:02:20Speaker 1: quick bit. And so anyway, there's there's a there's a
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: handful of people that are really really good at it.
- 1:02:24Speaker 1: And Alan Alan is another one. Uh he's who did
- 1:02:27Speaker 1: your show, right, He's the one that did the Excess.
- 1:02:29Speaker 1: He's he's really good at it. Yeah. I remember when
- 1:02:31Speaker 1: I was on your show doing an episode of The Excess.
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: Laughing because you know, if you're if you're on the show,
- 1:02:36Speaker 1: you've probably heard all the stick a thousand times and
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: you're not necessarily laughing. But I was new to it.
- 1:02:40Speaker 1: So on Donald's show The Exes, I was laughing. Well
- 1:02:42Speaker 1: he wasn't only on the Ex's he was also he
- 1:02:45Speaker 1: also did bills. Uh und he did that one with
- 1:02:51Speaker 1: Ron Vuncius. There you go. Yes, look what good storytellers
- 1:02:53Speaker 1: we are. We're circling. I want to make sure I
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: get his name, Alan Murray. That's who is. That's that's
- 1:02:58Speaker 1: who it is. Alan Murray is another one that crushes
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: like he does Sammy Davis Junior. He does a bunch
- 1:03:04Speaker 1: of bits like, uh, he even got me to go
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: into the audience. That's not hard, bro. You loved it. Yeah,
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: I did. But he found he found able to get
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: me to go into the audience. He found. But the
- 1:03:18Speaker 1: is he found a song that I would that I
- 1:03:21Speaker 1: would have fun with. Like, so you know, they give
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: all of this candy to actors and stuff on stage
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: throughout the week of shooting. There's gum, there's like you
- 1:03:31Speaker 1: name it. It's just like a shit ton of candy
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: on stage. And so I would take the candy and
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: go into audience and he would play uh, Sammy Davis Juniors.
- 1:03:42Speaker 1: The candy Man can would run around just tossing bubblegum
- 1:03:47Speaker 1: and and lemon heads and sour grapes all up into
- 1:03:52Speaker 1: the air, uh and at people. So yeah, Alan Murray
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: is another one amazing audience when the world When the
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: world reopens, and if you come to Hollywood, I definitely
- 1:04:02Speaker 1: recommend um. If you like this stuff, go find go
- 1:04:06Speaker 1: you know, google how to go to a sitcom taping
- 1:04:08Speaker 1: because it's it's it's a cool experience. I remember coming
- 1:04:11Speaker 1: as a kid, I went to see The Bob Newhart Show.
- 1:04:13Speaker 1: We saw a taping of that, and I was as
- 1:04:15Speaker 1: someone who wanted to be in film, I was like,
- 1:04:17Speaker 1: this is the goal, as they ever. Um, all right,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: Daniel is the guest here. Both guests are here. Oh interesting,
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: Joel are you are you? Are you okay? There you
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: are Joel? You're having some internet troubles today. What's happening? Sorry?
- 1:04:30Speaker 1: I spectrum. It's a whole journey. We're getting there, we're
- 1:04:34Speaker 1: figuring it out. Oh my god, you get that. That's
- 1:04:40Speaker 1: how I'm doing this now right now. Yeah. When it works,
- 1:04:46Speaker 1: it works. You know why we have spectrum. Why because
- 1:04:49Speaker 1: it's the only thing that we can have the monopoly
- 1:04:52Speaker 1: in my neighborhood. All right, quick break, we'll be right
- 1:04:56Speaker 1: back with a very exciting guest. And Sha, how's your
- 1:05:07Speaker 1: podcast going? Should we plug your podcast? Oh? I don't
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: have a podcast downcast what I was before. I was
- 1:05:14Speaker 1: before the guy who I was doing it with, Jason Kincepts, Jon,
- 1:05:17Speaker 1: got a new job. And then I don't want to
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: do it anymore because I missed because I missed him.
- 1:05:23Speaker 1: So but now I'm just doing book stuff, all right.
- 1:05:26Speaker 1: Tell we'd like to tell everyone always when you're on
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: how they find your Scrubs book because he wrote it amazing,
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: not anything that you're doing. Just tell them how they
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: can find it. Yeah. I gave Donald the basketball book
- 1:05:38Speaker 1: so he could read it on the Pooper. Oh excellence, excellent,
- 1:05:43Speaker 1: your story. Just go to a website halfway books dot com.
- 1:05:47Speaker 1: Everything is on there, halfway books dot com. Yeah, um,
- 1:05:51Speaker 1: I promise you halfway books dot com. Did he say
- 1:05:54Speaker 1: halfway Yes, it's halfway. Halfway crooks like crooks, things as
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: halfway crooks. There is such thing as halfway books dot com.
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: Halfway Books, halfway books dot com. And Shay Is is
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: an incredibly smart and clever writer. And if you love Scrubs,
- 1:06:16Speaker 1: you'll want to pick up a Scrubs book because it's very,
- 1:06:20Speaker 1: very well written, and it's essays about something you apparently
- 1:06:24Speaker 1: are interested in, which is the TV show Scrubs. Say,
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: do you ever think about writing movies, creating or TV
- 1:06:30Speaker 1: and stuff like that? Just so you know you're such
- 1:06:32Speaker 1: a great writer, do you ever think why don't I
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: get into that? Mostly I just like to watch the stuff. Hello,
- 1:06:39Speaker 1: y'all do that part of it and I'll do that part.
- 1:06:41Speaker 1: That's what I'm just asking. Well, I'm just asking. I
- 1:06:44Speaker 1: think you should consider it, Shay, because you're funny and
- 1:06:47Speaker 1: you know, um, you know the genre really well, really well.
- 1:06:51Speaker 1: At some point when you win it, when you win
- 1:06:53Speaker 1: an Emmy, I want you to thank Donald and I
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: all right, let's bring on, by the way, this we
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: didn't win many Emmy's Scrubs, but this one won for editing.
- 1:07:03Speaker 1: And I think it's a little controversial this win because
- 1:07:07Speaker 1: it won four multi camera editing, So it does feel
- 1:07:13Speaker 1: like a bit of a cheat. I mean no offense
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: to John Michelle. He's an incredible editor and he should
- 1:07:18Speaker 1: have won for I just feel he should have won
- 1:07:21Speaker 1: for other amazing Scrubs episodes, but he won for this one. Um.
- 1:07:26Speaker 1: All right, let's bring in our guests. Joel. By the way, Joel,
- 1:07:29Speaker 1: did you have um any contact with your your new
- 1:07:33Speaker 1: lady friend this week? Uh? Nothing to write at home
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: about just yet, but we'll update. They broke up already,
- 1:07:41Speaker 1: they broke up. Excuse to play the song for everybody
- 1:07:43Speaker 1: but you. You don't know. She said her mom hates
- 1:07:46Speaker 1: the song because it makes you sound easy. Let's talk
- 1:07:48Speaker 1: about that before you bring in the guest. Before you
- 1:07:51Speaker 1: bring in the guests, we're gonna play the Joel's. We're
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: gonna play the Jowell don't play it. Her mom doesn't
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: like it. We're gonna talk about why her mom doesn't
- 1:07:57Speaker 1: like it. Okay, here's the Joel dating theme song. Get
- 1:08:01Speaker 1: the word out all town. Joelmonique is down to get down,
- 1:08:09Speaker 1: no matter what's between your legs. Tomorrow bone and you
- 1:08:12Speaker 1: could be making eggs. Joe, get down, get down. Oh yeah,
- 1:08:18Speaker 1: JOELMONI get down to get Okay, now, Joel, your mom
- 1:08:24Speaker 1: tell you that she doesn't like it because it makes
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: you sound too easy. Yes, she down to get down,
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: just anyone. I don't like it. I was like it's catchy.
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: I don't want to listen to it. But it's not
- 1:08:38Speaker 1: like we don't say down to get down with anyone.
- 1:08:40Speaker 1: Just Joel Monique is down to get down. It does
- 1:08:44Speaker 1: say it says no matter what's between your leg your legs,
- 1:08:48Speaker 1: that's simply suggesting the preference. Oh my god, you could
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: be making joel'a meggs. Joe al Monique is down there times.
- 1:09:00Speaker 1: There are times when songs in my head all day
- 1:09:03Speaker 1: long and I'm just humming it to myself. I have
- 1:09:06Speaker 1: sing it to myself on more than one well, usually
- 1:09:08Speaker 1: want I'm cooking. Do you sing it in a third
- 1:09:14Speaker 1: person or do you say I am always keep person?
- 1:09:22Speaker 1: Please try and have another zoom date because or maybe
- 1:09:26Speaker 1: maybe you can even have a socially distanced cup of
- 1:09:28Speaker 1: coffee with her. Because our fans need updates on this
- 1:09:32Speaker 1: exciting new relationship. All right, all right, all right, let's
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: bring in the bringing day. Hello to Galen and Lindsay.
- 1:09:40Speaker 1: Galen and Lindsay, Welcome to show, Welcome to the show. Welcome,
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: Hey guys, how are you welcome? You guys? How do
- 1:09:55Speaker 1: you guys? Do you guys know each other? Are we
- 1:09:57Speaker 1: just doing It's a mystery down that we're gonna find. Okay,
- 1:10:01Speaker 1: from names farmer and his is Wilson. Okay, Well they
- 1:10:04Speaker 1: might not want their last names out there, but there
- 1:10:05Speaker 1: you go, go Worries. This is Shay Serrano, guys, and
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: that's of course Joel and Dale. Well, Lindsey, actually you're
- 1:10:13Speaker 1: into this show because she wanted to be on with Shay.
- 1:10:16Speaker 1: Oh good, Joel, you are good at your job. We
- 1:10:19Speaker 1: got a Shay specific guest. All right, go on, go on,
- 1:10:24Speaker 1: explain to us, lindsay, what's your what's your question or
- 1:10:28Speaker 1: Shay related singings? So actually, so, Galen's my brother in law. Um,
- 1:10:33Speaker 1: and this time last year I got an email that
- 1:10:37Speaker 1: said from Shay Serrano and it was like I get
- 1:10:40Speaker 1: from Galen and I was like, what is this? I
- 1:10:42Speaker 1: opened it up and it was just a PDF. So
- 1:10:44Speaker 1: I was like, hey, Galen, what, I don't want to
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: open a right in pdf. So Galen then explained to
- 1:10:49Speaker 1: me that he had sent me for my birthday Shay's
- 1:10:52Speaker 1: essays um from Stretch so um and told me all
- 1:10:56Speaker 1: about Shay and how awesome he is. And he was like,
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: I know you're a huge Scrubs fan. Um, So I
- 1:11:03Speaker 1: thought this would be perfect for you. And then he's
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: also wanted to support Shay because of all the awesome
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: things that Shay was doing to support his followers at
- 1:11:11Speaker 1: the sort of COVID and so he was like, this
- 1:11:14Speaker 1: sport and give you a little like early birthday. Yet.
- 1:11:17Speaker 1: So then when of course she came on the podcast
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: the first time, I was like, oh, I know exactly
- 1:11:22Speaker 1: who she is and I've read these essays. So, um,
- 1:11:25Speaker 1: I wanted to invite him on today with me because
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: he is an awesome brother in law. Um, he's been
- 1:11:32Speaker 1: in my life since I was fifteen and more than
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: half my life now. So I just wanted to say
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: a way to say thank you to him, to get
- 1:11:39Speaker 1: his one of his um favorite writers for him the
- 1:11:42Speaker 1: chance to see him. And so a great way for
- 1:11:47Speaker 1: me to go on the show because I'm such a
- 1:11:49Speaker 1: huge fan and I love Scrubs. Wow. That's wow. So, Galen,
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: how did you find out about es Well? I was
- 1:12:02Speaker 1: a big reader of grant Lands back in the day
- 1:12:04Speaker 1: and then The Ringer, and so I've been reading stuff
- 1:12:06Speaker 1: that SHA's written and listening to the Shad podcasts for
- 1:12:10Speaker 1: years and years and years at this point, so I
- 1:12:12Speaker 1: started following him on Twitter and just sort of getting
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: into his whole you know, his whole thing with basketball,
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: with movieses, just with all the all the things he's into.
- 1:12:20Speaker 1: And he's just such a such such a fun writer
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: and an outspoken person. Just just love this stuff. That's
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: stuff speaking of basketball. I'll let you know what. I'll
- 1:12:29Speaker 1: let Shave respond to all of this. Yeah, Shaye, do
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: you have a response to all this love you're getting?
- 1:12:35Speaker 1: I don't how. This is like a new thing for
- 1:12:37Speaker 1: me to hear it. It's usually i'd like someone will
- 1:12:40Speaker 1: send me an email or something. This is very overwhelming,
- 1:12:43Speaker 1: But that's like a I'm like, I'm gonna feel real
- 1:12:45Speaker 1: good for the rest of the week, right, I'm saying
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: I'm gonna carry that with me. Well what what? What
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: higher honor can a writer have than people saying, not
- 1:12:54Speaker 1: only do I love your work, but I'm gifting it away?
- 1:12:57Speaker 1: Yeah that's right? People amazing? Yeah? Um, and you really
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: do Shay making IMpower? Are you still is a prolific
- 1:13:03Speaker 1: on Twitter? I'm off Twitter now, but are you still
- 1:13:06Speaker 1: as prolific and doing all the cool things you do? Oh? Yeah,
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: I'm real lonely, So okay, Kaylan, I gotta say this.
- 1:13:17Speaker 1: First of all, your last name well first of all.
- 1:13:21Speaker 1: The second of all, I see you got Oakland all
- 1:13:23Speaker 1: in the background and you got the town uh T
- 1:13:27Speaker 1: shirt on. Let me ask you something right now, how
- 1:13:30Speaker 1: proud are you a Steph Curry? Right now? Holy cow, man,
- 1:13:34Speaker 1: holy cow. He's just been I mean this season, this
- 1:13:38Speaker 1: excuse for the Dubs was kind of a loss when
- 1:13:41Speaker 1: Clay was out before it started. But just the way
- 1:13:44Speaker 1: Steps been playing has been inspiring, just like makes makes
- 1:13:47Speaker 1: it fun to tune in, you know, every night. So
- 1:13:49Speaker 1: it's it's awesome. I know people are saying Yokich is
- 1:13:51Speaker 1: the MVP, but I don't. I want to step to
- 1:13:53Speaker 1: get a little love this year because like, who's really
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: playing better than him? I don't think the Warriors would have,
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: you know, six wins if it wasn't for Steps that
- 1:14:01Speaker 1: you know, he well, Draymond too, is is It's totally important.
- 1:14:06Speaker 1: But I think yo Ki it's either yo kihold Dame
- 1:14:08Speaker 1: Lillard for me or or I would I would give
- 1:14:12Speaker 1: I would give Joel and be a chance at it two.
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: But those three d Steph are the definitely in the
- 1:14:19Speaker 1: forefront for me. I love a good Curry. Um, sometimes
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: I'll have it. Uh, which what's your favorite kind of curry?
- 1:14:27Speaker 1: I love a yellow curry, Zack. You can't talk to
- 1:14:34Speaker 1: my brother in law about tennis. I made sure again
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: I'm talking. Oh thank you. I'm not good, Galen, but
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: I love it. Donald and I sometimes attend the same lesson,
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: and it's my favorite thing to do. It's my favorite
- 1:14:46Speaker 1: form of exercise. I just love it. I wish I
- 1:14:48Speaker 1: was good, but I'm just kind of math lindsay. It
- 1:14:51Speaker 1: says stronger on your shirt, stronger than you, guys, just
- 1:14:59Speaker 1: for you. I do love me some. I do love
- 1:15:02Speaker 1: me some. Grow Gou, You guys are really great guests
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: so far because you're hitting us from all angles. You
- 1:15:07Speaker 1: got basketball with shay On. You got a baby Yoda
- 1:15:10Speaker 1: for Donald grow Gou. Oh No one calls him grow Gou?
- 1:15:15Speaker 1: Do they really? The boy's name is grow Gou, but
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: bro does anyone accept Mega Mega fans like you and
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: Joel call him grogu When he shows up with a
- 1:15:24Speaker 1: lightsaber next week, you ain't gonna call him baby Yoda.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: You're gonna be going like grog was kicking that ass.
- 1:15:28Speaker 1: So I saw there's a new I'm not gonna get
- 1:15:32Speaker 1: down a wormhole. Okay, we're gonna do three sentences on this.
- 1:15:34Speaker 1: I saw there's a new Star Wars animated show coming out,
- 1:15:38Speaker 1: like the bad Batch the bad Batch. Are you exciting
- 1:15:42Speaker 1: to that? I am, yes, it's it's it's a connection. Listen,
- 1:15:46Speaker 1: anything in between Clone Wars and a new Hope is
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: a lot of fun to talk about. And now what
- 1:15:53Speaker 1: we're learning is that anything in between, uh, the last
- 1:15:57Speaker 1: not the last Jota, the Force awakens and return to
- 1:15:59Speaker 1: the g That's an interesting time. So I'm always excited
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: when we explore those um and UM. I I wanted
- 1:16:08Speaker 1: the audience to know that when whenever I stumble across
- 1:16:10Speaker 1: anything Star Wars, I send it to Donald and um,
- 1:16:13Speaker 1: I would say that every seventh thing or something gets
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: a response. Um. But I I'm just like, I'm like
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: the parent who's like, oh my son loves Star Wars legos, honey,
- 1:16:24Speaker 1: Look was alright, Donald or Donald or Joel? What's what's
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: the connection of the name Galen to Star Wars Galen Soul?
- 1:16:36Speaker 1: Come on? I was too easy to have to get
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: on the level of like, what's the cereal of the
- 1:16:44Speaker 1: battery that's used in the speeder? Can I ask can
- 1:16:52Speaker 1: I ask Lindsay a question because I couldn't because I couldn't.
- 1:16:55Speaker 1: I couldn't ask this of zach o'donald because they were
- 1:16:58Speaker 1: part of the show. Lindsay, when you were watching this
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: episode My Life and four cameras and they cut, they
- 1:17:04Speaker 1: cut for the first time into the like sitcom thing,
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: did you think that this was like a very quick
- 1:17:09Speaker 1: one off fantasy and we're just going to be back
- 1:17:12Speaker 1: to normal or did you know right then that the
- 1:17:15Speaker 1: rest of the show is going to be like that.
- 1:17:18Speaker 1: That's a good question because I definitely have seen this
- 1:17:20Speaker 1: episode a couple of times. I had to rewatch it yesterday.
- 1:17:24Speaker 1: But I actually have interesting opinions on this episode. It's
- 1:17:27Speaker 1: not one of my favorite, but I do get out.
- 1:17:30Speaker 1: Thanks thanks Linda, Thanks ladies and gentlemen, get it up
- 1:17:35Speaker 1: for Lindsay. I do love these sitcom references that it does,
- 1:17:42Speaker 1: like do this where of course, like I love One
- 1:17:44Speaker 1: Division also, so I think it's fun to kind of
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: again make that and then happy like, oh well, Scrubs
- 1:17:50Speaker 1: did it first, so it's like, yeah, One Division was
- 1:17:53Speaker 1: right there, you go. So I think I can't remember
- 1:17:57Speaker 1: the first time because the person i'd watched it such
- 1:17:59Speaker 1: a long time ago, but I think and then rewatching it,
- 1:18:02Speaker 1: I knew that, like the whole thing kind of went
- 1:18:04Speaker 1: through um that it goes through the whole time of
- 1:18:09Speaker 1: the fantasy sequence. It's really interesting. It's really interesting that
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: you say that because WandaVision definitely stole from us, and
- 1:18:18Speaker 1: then Falcon and the Winter Soldier definitely stole from us.
- 1:18:25Speaker 1: Come on, man, you've never seen her. First of all,
- 1:18:27Speaker 1: it's an eagle dude. It's a dude with the flying
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: around with his buddy one two. They're the best. They're
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: like the best bromance on television right now. Who started that?
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: The interracial romance at that? Like, come on, man, come on, buddy.
- 1:18:44Speaker 1: Did you like this latest episode? Yeah, they've set it
- 1:18:47Speaker 1: up for whatever this Friday is, for Thursday at midnight.
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: For me, they spent like one hundred and fifty seven
- 1:18:55Speaker 1: million dollars on this show. One hundred and fifty seven million.
- 1:19:00Speaker 1: Most of it goes into special effects and visual effects
- 1:19:05Speaker 1: and stuff like that. So far, I haven't seen one
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: hundred and fifty seven million dollars worth of visual effects
- 1:19:11Speaker 1: keeping it one hundred. I might have seen fifty. They
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: got about one hundred whole flight scene for episode one.
- 1:19:18Speaker 1: That's about fifty that's about fifty million dollars donald budgets
- 1:19:22Speaker 1: of production. I thought that, um that this fight was,
- 1:19:28Speaker 1: this fight in this last episode was was amazing. Was
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: really well done. Yeah, I like, I like everywhere that
- 1:19:34Speaker 1: it's going on, Louis Dreyfus. That was cool her arrival.
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: What you know, it's the only thing is you got
- 1:19:44Speaker 1: a deep dive into who Contessa is or Vale is,
- 1:19:48Speaker 1: i should say. And when you deep dive into it,
- 1:19:50Speaker 1: you learned that she used to date Nick Fury, and
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: you learn that you know, she was Madame Hydra or
- 1:19:55Speaker 1: Lady Hydro or something like that. So you know she's
- 1:19:58Speaker 1: coming from the fact that she's talking to John Walker
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: in the first place. You know she's evil. You know,
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: she's a baddie. She's a bad guy of some sort.
- 1:20:07Speaker 1: I'm hoping that they dig into the Thunderbolts because that's
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: a really awesome group of and Thunderbolts is led by
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: Zimo actually, who's on the show, So that would be
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: really awesome if that's what it turns into, where Zemo
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: and the Thunderbolts get their suicide squad type movie. You
- 1:20:26Speaker 1: know what I mean or suicide squad type show where
- 1:20:28Speaker 1: they're the bad guys who who you know, everybody thinks
- 1:20:31Speaker 1: they're doing good, but really they're bad guys plotting for
- 1:20:35Speaker 1: a future event. Well, I'm glad it was Julia Bee
- 1:20:38Speaker 1: drive is because everybody loves her. You can't not love
- 1:20:40Speaker 1: her absolutely um and she's a Northquestern grad. All right,
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: do you guys have a question? So my question away,
- 1:20:46Speaker 1: it's like with this episode, one of the big things
- 1:20:49Speaker 1: that it starts is this issue like storyline and arc
- 1:20:53Speaker 1: of Turk and Carla's like marial issues and working through
- 1:20:57Speaker 1: those time. Did you all have like a favorite storyline
- 1:21:01Speaker 1: or arc, either for your characters that you'd like to
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: kind of act through or for everyone else, like want
- 1:21:07Speaker 1: a storyline or arc that in particular that you really loved.
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: Growing up, my favorite storylines on television shows were the
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: love stories. You know, not necessarily the will they or
- 1:21:18Speaker 1: won't they, but the love stories like Alex P. Keaton
- 1:21:22Speaker 1: when he finds his first girlfriend, when he meets his
- 1:21:24Speaker 1: first girlfriend who turns out to be his wife in
- 1:21:26Speaker 1: real life, Michael J. Fox's wife in real life, or
- 1:21:29Speaker 1: Kurt Cameron's first loved in his on growing pains right well,
- 1:21:35Speaker 1: and then you know Kadeem Hardison being so Dwayne Wayne
- 1:21:39Speaker 1: being so in love with Denise but then finding love
- 1:21:43Speaker 1: and Jasmine guys character, Um, I I loved that, and
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: I love that you could find music and play the
- 1:21:53Speaker 1: music with U this theme and so in Scrubs, my
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: favorite arc is the Turk and Carless storyline. Like I,
- 1:22:02Speaker 1: you know, Shay says it will can say it way
- 1:22:06Speaker 1: better than me, But I truly believe that you know,
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: that relationship is as close to a real relationship that
- 1:22:14Speaker 1: I've ever been in, Like it mirrors my relationship with
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: my wife. You know, not only are they cute, but
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: you know, they're both very passionate about what they believe
- 1:22:27Speaker 1: in and sometimes the other one doesn't believe in it,
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: but they still find love, you know, uh with within
- 1:22:34Speaker 1: their complications. And so I I love it when I
- 1:22:39Speaker 1: loved when I got to do stuff with Judy like this,
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: like love stories with Judy. Yeah, I have a similar answer.
- 1:22:46Speaker 1: I think that the well obviously first and foremost my
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: my love affair with with Donald and Turk, but I
- 1:22:52Speaker 1: really I'm I'm a sucker for romance too, And I
- 1:22:56Speaker 1: loved that that that throughout the arc of the eight seasons,
- 1:23:00Speaker 1: the regular eight seasons that that Sarah and I ended
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: up together, Elliott and Jdi ended up together. I thought,
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: I thought that was very romantic and real and that
- 1:23:08Speaker 1: they both had to grow. Um well, JD in particular
- 1:23:12Speaker 1: had to grow, but Elliot had to do some growing
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: of her own and date. You know, they hadn't really
- 1:23:15Speaker 1: dated a lot of people when when they first meet
- 1:23:17Speaker 1: there they're in college, and then they're in med school
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: and they're so busy, and and they were kind of
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: each other's first crush outside of school that I think
- 1:23:27Speaker 1: we can infer and then and then then they have
- 1:23:30Speaker 1: a lot of growing up to do, and then the
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: fact that they are able to find each other after
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: they've dated other people and sort of gotten the hooking
- 1:23:37Speaker 1: up out of their systems, and then well, this is crazy.
- 1:23:40Speaker 1: I want to be with you. I'm such a sucker
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: for that. I love romance. And I thought that was
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: really well done by Bill. But you're right, zach Us
- 1:23:49Speaker 1: playing you know, our our bit our stick by far,
- 1:23:55Speaker 1: I should say, the love story comes a close second
- 1:23:58Speaker 1: to that. Yeah. Well, yeah, I mean because I think that,
- 1:24:01Speaker 1: you know, as as as JD says to Elliott and
- 1:24:04Speaker 1: the Bahamas, Elliott, I love you more than turk. What
- 1:24:10Speaker 1: what's a more romantic thing you could say? All right,
- 1:24:15Speaker 1: do you guys have another question? And my other questions
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: is gonna be about you guys get these really fine
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: fantasy sequences the show. Um, did you guys ever have
- 1:24:26Speaker 1: a favorite costume that went along with one of those? Oh,
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: my Eddie Murphy raw, Yeah, that one, either that one
- 1:24:33Speaker 1: or Indiana Jones. I got to be the black Indiana Jones.
- 1:24:37Speaker 1: And you know, I loved the The Princess Bride episode.
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: It was so underappreciated in my book because it was
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: it was a really weird time for the show, and
- 1:24:47Speaker 1: we thought it might go off the air, and I
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: think the audience thought that it might be the series finale,
- 1:24:54Speaker 1: and so it was sort of judged in a why
- 1:24:57Speaker 1: is this the series finale? Way? Um? But I think
- 1:25:00Speaker 1: it was probably our most expensive episode and our most
- 1:25:03Speaker 1: definitely and most ambitious episode, And I directed it, so
- 1:25:08Speaker 1: I'm extra biased, but I I I just look. I
- 1:25:11Speaker 1: thought the costumes in that by Carrie Bennett were extraordinary,
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: and um, the amount of work that went into that
- 1:25:19Speaker 1: episode was like quadruple um. Anything we ever did on
- 1:25:23Speaker 1: another episode. So that's what comes to my mind. All right.
- 1:25:33Speaker 1: I don't know who we're helping, whether it's Lindsay or Galen,
- 1:25:36Speaker 1: but it is time for where Where do you live?
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: Lindsay's actually for Galen. Okland. It's time for Oakland, Oaktown's
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: favorite segment. Everyone, it's time to fix Yea, We're gonna
- 1:25:57Speaker 1: hella fix your life. That's what they say in Oakland, Donald, Hella,
- 1:26:00Speaker 1: is that what they say? Well the teenagers too. I
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: don't know if you know, you know, I love me
- 1:26:03Speaker 1: some E forty tell me where to go? Hey, we
- 1:26:06Speaker 1: just tell me where to go. We just had an
- 1:26:08Speaker 1: E forty track in the in the in the show.
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: Um and she probably doesn't. And they're trying to get
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: a PG version number the song because the lyrics. But
- 1:26:18Speaker 1: it's a great song. You know that song they played
- 1:26:23Speaker 1: in basketball games apparently a long um shay, you should
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: know this. They played in basketball games. We're here trying
- 1:26:29Speaker 1: to we're trying to function. Tell me where to go?
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: What's it called function? Yeah? You know that song? Function? Donald?
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: Go go? No? No, yeah, I don't I know that one.
- 1:26:42Speaker 1: All right, Well, Donald, I'm gonna send it to you
- 1:26:43Speaker 1: because it's a really good song, tell Me where to Go.
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: Apparently they're going to try and get mister e forty
- 1:26:48Speaker 1: to make a Disney friend friendly version of it, tell
- 1:26:52Speaker 1: Me where to Go? All right, we digress, Galen, how
- 1:26:56Speaker 1: can we help you, sir? Well? And I was gonna say,
- 1:26:58Speaker 1: I think mister fab is the Oakland sort of least
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: least appreciate or a most underrated rapper. But um so,
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: about nine months ago, my wife and I started fostering
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: two babies who are about twenty one days apart, and
- 1:27:17Speaker 1: so we don't we don't know ultimately what's going to
- 1:27:19Speaker 1: go on with them, but there's a chance in the
- 1:27:21Speaker 1: long run that we could adopt both of them. Wow,
- 1:27:24Speaker 1: So they're in effect, they're there because they're so close
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: in age and developmentally, and they've they've basically been almost
- 1:27:32Speaker 1: raised together. They're they're eleven months now. They're they're sort
- 1:27:34Speaker 1: of in effect, they're like twins. They're very much like twins.
- 1:27:37Speaker 1: And so I had a question for Donald in for Shay,
- 1:27:40Speaker 1: who both I think have twins, unless I misread Wikipedia,
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: But my question was, do you have anything that you
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: could tell a new parent who's potentially raising twins. Uh,
- 1:27:52Speaker 1: something that you wish you would have known about raising twins,
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: or you know, any information that would be pertinent to
- 1:27:58Speaker 1: a to a future or a current in future twin. Dad,
- 1:28:01Speaker 1: All right, wait before we get to them answering, tell
- 1:28:05Speaker 1: us a little more backstory. How did this come about
- 1:28:07Speaker 1: that you and your wife stepped up in such an
- 1:28:11Speaker 1: incredible way to take on fostering babies. The problem with
- 1:28:18Speaker 1: this story is there's no we can figure out. We've
- 1:28:20Speaker 1: been we've been together for ever and ever, and for
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: some reason both of us just at some point in
- 1:28:25Speaker 1: our life had a sort of interest in fostering an
- 1:28:29Speaker 1: adoption as a way to start a family, and so
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: we set about it a couple a couple of years ago.
- 1:28:35Speaker 1: Is actually Game one of the twenty seventeen NBA Finals
- 1:28:37Speaker 1: is like the first the first event we had to
- 1:28:40Speaker 1: go to a minute. It took several years to get,
- 1:28:43Speaker 1: you know, fully certified, et cetera, et cetera. And then
- 1:28:47Speaker 1: Lindsay actually has a super connection to this because she's
- 1:28:50Speaker 1: a social worker and works with foster and adoption in Atlanta.
- 1:28:55Speaker 1: So it's it's like, really in our family right now. Wow,
- 1:28:58Speaker 1: And so the thing fostering as I understand it is, um,
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: they're with you? Is it is a situation and excuse
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: me for not knowing the answer, but Lindsey can help
- 1:29:08Speaker 1: me because she's a social worker. Where if the if
- 1:29:11Speaker 1: the parent of either of these children, uh comes back
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: into the picture, you could then lose the child to them. Yeah,
- 1:29:18Speaker 1: that's that's a distinct possibility. So that's really that's extra
- 1:29:22Speaker 1: frightening because you're if you've fallen in love with these babies,
- 1:29:25Speaker 1: I'm sure, and yet you might have to relinquish them.
- 1:29:29Speaker 1: Part of a lot of the training is sort of
- 1:29:31Speaker 1: trying to prepare you emotionally for saying, you have to
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: treat these kids as if you're own. You have to
- 1:29:36Speaker 1: love them like they're your own. But you also have
- 1:29:38Speaker 1: to know that, you know, at a moment's notice, somebody
- 1:29:42Speaker 1: can show up and they can go back with with
- 1:29:45Speaker 1: you know, their their mom or their dad or or
- 1:29:47Speaker 1: a or a you know kinship or you know, some
- 1:29:50Speaker 1: other family member. And so it's it is it is
- 1:29:53Speaker 1: tough emotionally that they don't you know, it's not like
- 1:29:55Speaker 1: they hide that. They sort of tell you one day
- 1:29:57Speaker 1: one that that's a distinct possibility. So it's it's emotionally
- 1:30:01Speaker 1: a little a little strange, but we just we're just
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: kind of rolling with it. Wow, that's so impressive, and
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: thank god there are people like you doing doing that,
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: because what a difference you're making in the world. I mean,
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: all I did today was make a smoothie. Well I
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: would and I would say, we're you know, we don't
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: deserve that much credit because we were seeking where we
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: wanted to foster, you know, babies, which I think there's
- 1:30:26Speaker 1: a lot of demand for him, As Lindsay would tell you,
- 1:30:28Speaker 1: if there's folks out there who want to foster like
- 1:30:30Speaker 1: teenagers or you know, middle school age kids, you know
- 1:30:34Speaker 1: that kind of thing, that there's really there's a really
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: big need for that. And so we you know that
- 1:30:39Speaker 1: maybe something that we do in the future. We weren't
- 1:30:41Speaker 1: quite ready for that. We wanted to start with babies.
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: But that's that's like those people who do that kind
- 1:30:45Speaker 1: of fostering are sort of really the heroes. Lindsey, Um,
- 1:30:49Speaker 1: is there a resource for people that might be listening
- 1:30:52Speaker 1: and going I would like to do that. That's been
- 1:30:54Speaker 1: a dream of mine. Do you do you know of
- 1:30:56Speaker 1: of a website or or where they could go? Yeah,
- 1:30:59Speaker 1: you for each state, it's you can google your state
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: and then like for Georgia, just googling foster children in
- 1:31:07Speaker 1: Georgia and it will usually take you straight to the
- 1:31:10Speaker 1: states like main page, and from there you can do
- 1:31:15Speaker 1: usually like on Georgia stage, you can do an inquiry
- 1:31:18Speaker 1: and then they'll connect you kind of with your county,
- 1:31:20Speaker 1: but they'll also go ahead and put you first in
- 1:31:25Speaker 1: an informational meeting, so they'll kind of again lay out
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: a lot of this tell you a lot more about
- 1:31:29Speaker 1: the process because it is a big process. Sometimes people
- 1:31:32Speaker 1: are just like, oh, like easy peasy, like I can
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: get approved like that, but there's a lot that goes
- 1:31:36Speaker 1: into the approval process. Well, thank goodness, right, because you
- 1:31:39Speaker 1: don't watch just anybody getting a child. Yeah, So there's
- 1:31:42Speaker 1: a lot of training involved, there's a lot of home
- 1:31:44Speaker 1: studies looking at your home, there's a lot of interviewing,
- 1:31:49Speaker 1: and so it definitely is a process, and it's a
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: really once you even get approved and you've got a placement,
- 1:31:55Speaker 1: it's really difficult and challenging, but it is such an important,
- 1:31:59Speaker 1: important need and there are I can't remember how I
- 1:32:05Speaker 1: think the stat is about there's like about four hundred
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: thousand kids in foster care usually on average each year,
- 1:32:11Speaker 1: and there's a really high number of teens that end
- 1:32:13Speaker 1: up aging out of foster care and so being able
- 1:32:16Speaker 1: to get in a specially support teams. And it is
- 1:32:19Speaker 1: much harder in the state. When I've had teams that
- 1:32:22Speaker 1: I've had to place in two different foster homes or
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: group homes. The preference is always a foster home, but
- 1:32:28Speaker 1: those are harder because again, teams have gone through trauma,
- 1:32:32Speaker 1: they've had different issues heres, and so people aren't quite
- 1:32:35Speaker 1: as ready. But there's also so much training out there
- 1:32:38Speaker 1: that people can be a part of. There's a lot
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: of different again in two in social media and Facebook
- 1:32:43Speaker 1: that people that you can utilize as support systems to
- 1:32:47Speaker 1: help them. And then also to trying to rely on
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: the state, trying to rely on these case man indors
- 1:32:51Speaker 1: of like hey, if if your team is struggling with
- 1:32:53Speaker 1: this or that, like making sure that they get those services.
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: So maybe the government doesn't the government help you financially
- 1:33:00Speaker 1: if you take a child. They do, Yeah, they provide
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: a snipend. So it's one of those they try and
- 1:33:04Speaker 1: stress that it's not a it's not supplemental income, but
- 1:33:09Speaker 1: it's like an assistant. So a lot of the times
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: they'll get more like reimburse for certain things, and they
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: may get a stipend like at the end of a
- 1:33:17Speaker 1: month or the next month to kind of help reimburse
- 1:33:20Speaker 1: you for previous things. Well, that's an incredible story, Galen,
- 1:33:25Speaker 1: and I think we on behalf of all of us.
- 1:33:28Speaker 1: We wish you success with that. And also I just
- 1:33:31Speaker 1: met you, but I really hope you get to keep
- 1:33:33Speaker 1: those those babies and become an awesome father to them.
- 1:33:36Speaker 1: I will say this, I hope their parents get it
- 1:33:39Speaker 1: together and are able to get the babies back first.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: But if not, I do hope that, Galen, I do
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: hope that we want joy for the children. It's what
- 1:33:47Speaker 1: we want right now, guys, let's pivot to the more
- 1:33:50Speaker 1: fun question. Do you guys have any advice on what
- 1:33:53Speaker 1: it's like? Even though these aren't literal twins, he feels
- 1:33:56Speaker 1: like he's raising them as twins. Of advice on what
- 1:33:58Speaker 1: that's like. That's tough, man, because if they act like
- 1:34:02Speaker 1: twins and they've been together their whole lives, they're gonna
- 1:34:06Speaker 1: gang up on you. So good, so good, and you
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: heard of good Cop, Bad Cop. It's crazy when your
- 1:34:14Speaker 1: kids do that to you. My kids, my twins are
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: twenty twenty one years old now, and one's good cop
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: and one's bad cop. One of them will give it
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: to me like one gives it to me like I
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: need it, and the other one is a sweetheart about it.
- 1:34:31Speaker 1: Dottie is a sweetheart about everything. Everything is. Dad, You're
- 1:34:34Speaker 1: my hero, You're my I love you so much. My daughter,
- 1:34:39Speaker 1: my daughter tells me she loves me, but I've never
- 1:34:41Speaker 1: heard you're my hero from my daughter. My daughter freaking
- 1:34:45Speaker 1: gives me the real you're gonna wear that or look
- 1:34:49Speaker 1: at you? You decided to work out today, huh oh
- 1:34:55Speaker 1: yeah yeah, and I also decided to move all your
- 1:34:57Speaker 1: stuff onto the front lawn. No, no, no, I would
- 1:35:00Speaker 1: never do that. Go ahead from from like a very
- 1:35:03Speaker 1: pragmatic standpoint, that's a very good answer there. It's gonna
- 1:35:07Speaker 1: feel like they're just running a two on one fast
- 1:35:09Speaker 1: break against you at all times. Like it doesn't. There's
- 1:35:12Speaker 1: there's nothing that you're gonna be able to do to
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: sort of separate those two. They're just gonna be a
- 1:35:16Speaker 1: pair forever. My twins are fourteen or thirteen going on
- 1:35:20Speaker 1: fourteen now, but they're like they're all they look like
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: young men. Now they got wide shoulders and we play.
- 1:35:25Speaker 1: They're bigger than me for the most part, and like
- 1:35:28Speaker 1: it's terrible, but also like kind of great. So number one,
- 1:35:32Speaker 1: they're gonna beat the hell out of you, but number two,
- 1:35:35Speaker 1: like your only job in this situation is to make
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: sure that they know your house is like a good
- 1:35:40Speaker 1: place to be and you want them there with you
- 1:35:42Speaker 1: and you love them, and then all the rest is
- 1:35:44Speaker 1: like whatever, screw it up a million times if you want.
- 1:35:47Speaker 1: But if they know that part of it, it seems
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: like everything works out pretty good. If they can come
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: to you, if they can come to you with their problems,
- 1:35:55Speaker 1: you're winning. You are winning. You are winning big time.
- 1:35:58Speaker 1: And so you want to make yourself available to them
- 1:36:00Speaker 1: and let them know that at a very early age
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: that you are safe with me. Yeah, awesome. I was
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: trying to think, what's what's the metaphor for taking a charge?
- 1:36:08Speaker 1: And while they're running the two on one against me,
- 1:36:11Speaker 1: but there's nothing. You're You're Jason Terry with Lebron bearing
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: down on you. That's all that is. There's no way
- 1:36:18Speaker 1: to stop it. There's there's the great thing that's going
- 1:36:22Speaker 1: to happen is there will be times where they very
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: clearly decide they're going to team up against you. Like
- 1:36:27Speaker 1: I remember one time I got a call from the school.
- 1:36:30Speaker 1: This is the twins were in like the third grade
- 1:36:31Speaker 1: or something, and they were cheating on a test. It
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: was very clear they were cheating on a test. They
- 1:36:36Speaker 1: didn't have definitive proof, but they both got the exact
- 1:36:40Speaker 1: same answers wrong in the exact same way, and it
- 1:36:42Speaker 1: was like, what are the chances of this happening? So
- 1:36:46Speaker 1: we knew they were cheating, and we sat them down
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: and we were like, you know, who was cheating off? Who?
- 1:36:49Speaker 1: What's going on here? And they would not crack. And
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: again they're ten ten years old at this time, and
- 1:36:53Speaker 1: they would not sell the other one out. And it
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: was very clear that they had talked about it ahead
- 1:36:57Speaker 1: of time and decided, no matter what happened, we're just
- 1:37:01Speaker 1: both gonna get in trouble right now. And I was
- 1:37:04Speaker 1: like frustrated because I could. I was like I was
- 1:37:06Speaker 1: trying to, like, you know, interrogate them like the police do,
- 1:37:08Speaker 1: and they wouldn't give me the answer, and so I
- 1:37:10Speaker 1: was frustrated. But I was like in the back of
- 1:37:12Speaker 1: my head, proud of them that they had so bad.
- 1:37:17Speaker 1: Don't you call one of them the baby that's the
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: youngest one. I have three, I have the twins and
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: the baby, and the baby is a straight up demon.
- 1:37:25Speaker 1: He's running, He's running everything right now. That's how it goes. Man,
- 1:37:28Speaker 1: It's like, it's really interesting. It's really interesting, the dynamic
- 1:37:33Speaker 1: of it all. You would think that the older one,
- 1:37:35Speaker 1: because they had to go through like all of your
- 1:37:39Speaker 1: mistakes as a parent. Yeah, you would think that they
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: would be the ones that are freaking crazy. It's the
- 1:37:45Speaker 1: ones that got it easy that turn into the turn
- 1:37:47Speaker 1: into the bad guys. Man. My daughter says things to
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: me like I never loved you, the same thing in
- 1:37:57Speaker 1: my house. This will look you're dead in your eyes
- 1:37:59Speaker 1: and be like you're the worst, and don't you ever
- 1:38:02Speaker 1: talk to me again. And I can't ask if you
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: wanted some cereal? What's it right right now? What's you
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: talking about. I'll zoom my wife because I'm out of
- 1:38:12Speaker 1: town right now shooting this this show. I'll zoom my
- 1:38:15Speaker 1: wife and I'll be like, let me talk to the kids,
- 1:38:18Speaker 1: and she'll call them in. And my kid, my youngest daughter,
- 1:38:21Speaker 1: I'd be like, hey, baby, how's it going through the zoom?
- 1:38:24Speaker 1: She'll look at me like freaking share horror, which looks
- 1:38:28Speaker 1: at freaking the dude that put his arm around her
- 1:38:31Speaker 1: while she was walking through the plot get off me,
- 1:38:33Speaker 1: as if like she looks at me like that, like
- 1:38:36Speaker 1: as if I'm gonna talk to you right now, Dad,
- 1:38:39Speaker 1: get out of here. Reference. Yeah, I love so. I
- 1:38:45Speaker 1: don't know, I don't know if you guys know this.
- 1:38:47Speaker 1: I'm sober nowadays. Uh. And because of and and so
- 1:38:50Speaker 1: because of that, I'm a little quicker. I'm a little quicker. Yeah.
- 1:38:53Speaker 1: By the way, I saw a couple of comments like, wow,
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: Donald sober is a little quick, a lot quick, more
- 1:39:00Speaker 1: than Stone Donald, that's what and moving slow motion though,
- 1:39:03Speaker 1: Well that's it. You're welcome. I hope we helped it all. Uh, Galen,
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: Um was awesome, good luck with everything, and thank you
- 1:39:10Speaker 1: guys for coming on. That was a lot of fun
- 1:39:12Speaker 1: and um and we appreciate you. Yes, we do, thank
- 1:39:16Speaker 1: you guys. So Galen, before you go, we should ye yes,
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: God that we are going to be giving you a palide?
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: Is that what it is? Pale pallette tte so not
- 1:39:30Speaker 1: a palide? And no you could we could give him
- 1:39:32Speaker 1: a palette, but it wouldn't be anything. So we're gonna
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: give him a palette. A palette, so let me say
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: that again. No, keep that in there, Okay, y'all can
- 1:39:40Speaker 1: y'all can know how dumb I am. I don't care.
- 1:39:43Speaker 1: You are deservant of the word palette. That's the new
- 1:39:46Speaker 1: one palette. And I was thinking, Paladin, I don't know
- 1:39:49Speaker 1: why Paladin. All right, Well tell the man what he's
- 1:39:52Speaker 1: getting a palette of. You're getting a palette of gts Kimboocha.
- 1:39:57Speaker 1: There you go, now, don't give it's too infants. I
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: do think it's recommended for infants, it's for adults. I
- 1:40:05Speaker 1: love that. Well, you're about to have a whole lot
- 1:40:09Speaker 1: of gtscha and the whole family will be happy. Thank you,
- 1:40:14Speaker 1: Thank you guys so much. We appreciate you, Thank you,
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: thank you nice. That was very nice, very nice people. Yeah,
- 1:40:26Speaker 1: taking on two different infants, they're not messing around two
- 1:40:31Speaker 1: they've been together since they were since they were even
- 1:40:35Speaker 1: younger than this. The two of them have so I
- 1:40:37Speaker 1: think it's very noble. I agree. I think we're almost
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: done with the show. Um. I think Sarah Sarah's um Shakespeare,
- 1:40:45Speaker 1: Sarah's German Shakespeare. I remember being hilarious, very funny. Anytime
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: Sarah yells in German. I just started giggling. Here you
- 1:40:53Speaker 1: because she puts on this sort of angry face. It's angry.
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: She's got the angry German. Yeah, yeah, she screams it.
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: I mean I think if you someone unscrubs WICKI wrote
- 1:41:05Speaker 1: that if you look like we're also starting to laugh
- 1:41:07Speaker 1: because it was just genuinely so funny. The janitor doing
- 1:41:12Speaker 1: stand up, very funny. Yes, what about us doing World's
- 1:41:15Speaker 1: most giant Doctor goes to a farm? And that is
- 1:41:19Speaker 1: our and that is what did you say? That is
- 1:41:22Speaker 1: our version of World's Greatest Doctor goes to a farm?
- 1:41:30Speaker 1: And then there's we think there's a mix up because
- 1:41:32Speaker 1: sitcoms have a happy ending, So oh, you're not the
- 1:41:34Speaker 1: one dying, it's somebody else, and don't worry about him,
- 1:41:37Speaker 1: and who cares about him? He's anti Semitic. Let's talk
- 1:41:44Speaker 1: about Clayake and singing at the end, Yes, isn't she lovely?
- 1:41:49Speaker 1: Not live? Or yeah, isn't she er? Isn't she precious?
- 1:42:00Speaker 1: That's a funny song for a couple to have as
- 1:42:02Speaker 1: their song because it's not about it's about a baby. Yeah,
- 1:42:05Speaker 1: it's about a Baby's right, it's about a baby named Aisha.
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: I like it when he goes my favorite part. I
- 1:42:15Speaker 1: can't believe what God has done there you go through us.
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: He's given life to one and that's so very lovely
- 1:42:26Speaker 1: made from love. Um all right, well then we come
- 1:42:32Speaker 1: back to talk about unlatching and now Donald will scream
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: fake Harmonica. Um. Hey, I thought the end was really cool. Uh.
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: We sort of exaggerated the real world of of scrubs
- 1:42:50Speaker 1: in the coloring. They made it look even more gritty
- 1:42:52Speaker 1: and dark and tinted um, just to really heighten the
- 1:42:56Speaker 1: difference coming back from the sitcom, which I thought was
- 1:42:58Speaker 1: was a cool thing to do. And then of course
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: the character dies because in the real world not everything's
- 1:43:03Speaker 1: happy like an end of a sitcom. I also like
- 1:43:06Speaker 1: the fact that the person that was in charge of
- 1:43:08Speaker 1: it all is Elliott, Like they're really we're sticking to
- 1:43:12Speaker 1: the fact that Elliott is a better doctor under pressure
- 1:43:16Speaker 1: than jd is, you know. Uh, and that's how that's
- 1:43:21Speaker 1: how you guys were coach chiefs, right co chiefs. Yeah.
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: And but she you know, there was that episode where
- 1:43:30Speaker 1: she just was a better doctor than you. There's no
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: way to there's no way, you know, Elliot's a better
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: doctor than Jad. There's no way to put it other
- 1:43:37Speaker 1: way to put it, especially under pressure. And this guy
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: goes into you know, he's starting the code and who
- 1:43:46Speaker 1: jumps in Elliott And you know, for someone who's rewatching
- 1:43:50Speaker 1: the show, it's refreshing to see that they're sticking to
- 1:43:54Speaker 1: the characters. Uh. I guess you would call it the
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: character bible. Like we said, this is what it is,
- 1:44:01Speaker 1: and it's the moment that it happens, and JD instead
- 1:44:04Speaker 1: of staying in the room to assist, he steps back
- 1:44:09Speaker 1: and gives her her space like, oh, she's got this.
- 1:44:12Speaker 1: This is this is where she excels. And he goes home, Yeah,
- 1:44:17Speaker 1: and watches. We assume it's Cheers, I think, right, or
- 1:44:22Speaker 1: maybe it's San franci On. We don't know. I've watched
- 1:44:25Speaker 1: through the series enough times that like imprinted in my
- 1:44:28Speaker 1: head is is anytime that doctor Cox puts his hands
- 1:44:32Speaker 1: on his head like this, like I know he's feeling
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: like a real bad way and he does that really
- 1:44:37Speaker 1: quickly as Clay Achon is walking out of the hospital,
- 1:44:40Speaker 1: And every time at the arms well up, I'm like,
- 1:44:42Speaker 1: oh god, this is like very very It's just imprinted
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: from the from the It Was Arabies episode when he
- 1:44:49Speaker 1: does it and he holds them up there and he's like,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: oh god, yeah, so many signature moves. It's like that,
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: but they all have purpose. That's the that's the great
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: thing about it. You know, Johnny he really dug into
- 1:45:03Speaker 1: his character and you know, really said, well, this is
- 1:45:07Speaker 1: when I do this, it's because of a specific reason.
- 1:45:10Speaker 1: It's not it's I'm not doing it for you know,
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: for for flash. This is I'm doing this because this
- 1:45:19Speaker 1: is how I feel at this moment. It's one of
- 1:45:21Speaker 1: the things that makes Johnny such a special actor is
- 1:45:23Speaker 1: that he makes such unique choices. Um and and they're
- 1:45:27Speaker 1: not choices anybody else would ever make. You're really getting
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: such a unique character from him, you know. Um And
- 1:45:35Speaker 1: it's not forced. It's like Christopher Walkin in a way,
- 1:45:37Speaker 1: it's like it's not forced. Those odd Christopher Walkin choices
- 1:45:41Speaker 1: are are his. That's who he is as an actor.
- 1:45:44Speaker 1: And it's just so interesting because it's so unique and special.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: You know, Diablo Cody was telling me that she's gonna
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: watch Wall Street this weekend. I got really excited because
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: you know, Johnny's in Wall Street. Yeah, it's a very
- 1:45:59Speaker 1: big roll in Wall Street, and I just want to
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: shout him out like this. Before he did Scrubs, he
- 1:46:05Speaker 1: was in everything. He was in everything, every Scrubs. He
- 1:46:09Speaker 1: pops up in seven. I remember being like, oh yeah,
- 1:46:12Speaker 1: oh wait a minute, he's the dickhead cop in point Break.
- 1:46:17Speaker 1: I forgot about that, dude, he's the cop in set
- 1:46:20Speaker 1: it off as well? Right, was like what everywhere? What
- 1:46:23Speaker 1: about after? After the Brad Pitt moment in seven that
- 1:46:29Speaker 1: I won't spoil if you haven't have seen seven, and
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: if you haven't seen seven, what the hell's wrong with you?
- 1:46:33Speaker 1: He goes he's in the chopper and he goes, oh, man,
- 1:46:36Speaker 1: somebody calls somebody. Really. There's a really cool moment in
- 1:46:43Speaker 1: the director's cut, David think of seven where they're talking
- 1:46:47Speaker 1: about whether they like watching You're watching it with David
- 1:46:49Speaker 1: Fincher and Brad Pitt, and they talk about how great
- 1:46:52Speaker 1: John C. McKinney was, like just in the small things
- 1:46:54Speaker 1: that they had him doing it now, it's really cool
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: to hear. They also talk about how Brad Pitt did
- 1:46:58Speaker 1: ad R and looped a lot of his lines just
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: for performance. Looping is when after the fact, in post
- 1:47:04Speaker 1: production you can you can fix lines, you can rerecord them.
- 1:47:08Speaker 1: And as I recall from that, do you remember this, Shay,
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: brad Pitt talks about how he didn't he didn't like
- 1:47:13Speaker 1: a lot of his choices and so he did something
- 1:47:14Speaker 1: that I never really knew about actors doing, but like
- 1:47:17Speaker 1: started changing the inflection and the performance of scenes in
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: I've done that. I've done that quite a bit. Actually,
- 1:47:25Speaker 1: when when getting the opportunity to do a dr adr
- 1:47:29Speaker 1: saves a lot of performances, you know, it really does.
- 1:47:32Speaker 1: I've never used it as a director for that. It's
- 1:47:34Speaker 1: just like, oh, let's fix the lines. We can hear
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: it in terms of like changing your performance. I the
- 1:47:38Speaker 1: first time I heard of someone doing that was Brad
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: Pitt and seven I've done that before. It's it's it's
- 1:47:43Speaker 1: really you know, if you look back at the movie
- 1:47:46Speaker 1: now that you know that, you'll see so much of
- 1:47:49Speaker 1: it looks recorded after the fact. Oh shit, I mean
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: you'd have to be looking for it. But I noticed
- 1:47:55Speaker 1: it because I noticed that. Shit. Anyway, that's our show. Everybody,
- 1:47:58Speaker 1: Thank you, Shay. Hey, you're the best guest there is
