Speaker 4: Lee for any of the updates. And I want to
• 1:51
  Speaker 4: make sure hollis.
• 1:54
Speaker 3: You you you are you are a legal expert, and
• 1:59
Speaker 3: I want you to kind of lead us off in
• 2:01
Speaker 3: what you think on the Marshall side of things. You
• 2:04
Speaker 3: because you said something prior to the show that was
• 2:08
Speaker 3: like shocking to me, and I don't think anybody thinks.
• 2:13
Speaker 3: I don't think anybody has started this, so kind of
• 2:16
Speaker 3: throws this legal piece and what could happen to Marshall
• 2:21
Speaker 3: by not playing this bowl game?
• 2:22
Speaker 4: Okay, well I think Lisa she had that part.
• 2:26
  Speaker 5: Okay, that's okay.
• 2:28
Speaker 6: So basically I came across some information in a group
• 2:31
Speaker 6: for the Sunbelt Conference and it's basically the American Athletic
• 2:35
Speaker 6: Conference Commissioner Tim Pernetti. He came out with a statement
• 2:40
Speaker 6: that you know, because Marshall, well, let me back up
• 2:44
Speaker 6: the reason he is so interested in what's happening with
• 2:47
Speaker 6: Marshall and their decline of the Bowl game the Independence
• 2:51
Speaker 6: Bowl game bid is because Army this year has become
• 2:54
Speaker 6: a member of the American Athletic Conference in football only.
• 2:58
Speaker 5: So basically, he came.
• 2:59
Speaker 6: Out and he feels like that Marshall should be held
• 3:03
Speaker 6: accountable for what happened as far as declining the accepting
• 3:07
Speaker 6: the bowl bid and then backing out. He feels like
• 3:10
Speaker 6: that they should be punished in some way, whether that's
• 3:14
Speaker 6: financial or you know, I don't know what he means
• 3:17
Speaker 6: by that, but basically he feels like that legislation should
• 3:21
Speaker 6: be in place that requires programs that accept an invitation
• 3:25
Speaker 6: to any type of bowl or any type of a
• 3:29
Speaker 6: bowl basically after football season and they commit to it
• 3:33
Speaker 6: and then back out, that they should be subject to
• 3:35
Speaker 6: consequences for the impact it has on their opponent. So
• 3:39
Speaker 6: basically he's saying that, you know, there should be some
• 3:41
Speaker 6: kind of ramifications for Marshall backing out of the Independence Bowl.
• 3:46
Speaker 3: But I'm Holliston, and I want you to kind of
• 3:48
Speaker 3: give us a little bit of a legal piece to this.
• 3:51
Speaker 4: When I look at.
• 3:52
Speaker 3: This and even hear that Marshall doesn't have any really
• 3:56
Speaker 3: control on that, I think, you know, when you start
• 4:00
Speaker 3: talking about college football and what's happening. Those losing twenty
• 4:04
Speaker 3: five or more players that are scholarship players.
• 4:09
Speaker 4: How are you gonna how are you going to go
• 4:11
Speaker 4: to a bowl game?
• 4:12
Speaker 3: How are you legitimately going to put on a football
• 4:16
Speaker 3: team on the field that is even respectable of a
• 4:19
Speaker 3: team that has won a championship or won a conference?
• 4:23
Speaker 4: How are you even going to do that?
• 4:24
Speaker 7: And I think that's the part that he's missing is
• 4:26
Speaker 7: that Marshall itself did not back out of the bowl.
• 4:29
Speaker 7: They are physically unable to perform because they don't have
• 4:32
Speaker 7: the players to right. That is a defeat in the
• 4:34
Speaker 7: bowl game. So it's not the university. It's not like
• 4:36
Speaker 7: they accept the big got a better one than say, hey,
• 4:39
Speaker 7: we want to not accept this. The problem is is
• 4:41
Speaker 7: that problem with that statement, which I don't necessarily disagree
• 4:45
Speaker 7: in totality, but the problem is you can't have that
• 4:48
Speaker 7: and then at the same time have coaches leaving and
• 4:51
Speaker 7: have the transfer a portal all happening converging at one
• 4:54
Speaker 7: point because to your point, this is not gonna be
• 4:57
Speaker 7: the last time this happens. And even if it's not
• 4:59
Speaker 7: your team menttality, what happens if you're you know, your
• 5:02
Speaker 7: best five to ten players don't play in the ball game,
• 5:05
Speaker 7: then what do you do? Right, So, these sort of
• 5:07
Speaker 7: things are going to continue to happen as long as
• 5:09
Speaker 7: the timing of coaches being hired away to new schools
• 5:12
Speaker 7: and the transfer portal being is what it is at
• 5:16
Speaker 7: the exact and basically in December. So this is going
• 5:18
Speaker 7: to be the result of it. So you get so,
• 5:21
Speaker 7: I think what he needs to probably focus on is
• 5:24
Speaker 7: figuring out a solution to the transfer portal coaching hiring.
• 5:28
Speaker 7: And I'm just not you know, trying to couple new
• 5:31
Speaker 7: solutions to those problems in it self, but working on
• 5:33
Speaker 7: the timing of those situations. So you think if the
• 5:37
Speaker 7: if the timing is different, yeah, then you'd be okay
• 5:41
Speaker 7: with basically all that transpire. Yeah, I'm okay. I mean again,
• 5:45
  Speaker 7: I'm not necessarily I don't like the way. I think
• 5:48
Speaker 7: there's a lot of work that can be done on
• 5:49
Speaker 7: the transfer portal paying players in IOL. I think we
• 5:52
Speaker 7: have to, like, you know, tighten some of those screws up.
• 5:55
Speaker 7: But I think the biggest problem is just the timing
• 5:58
Speaker 7: of it, right, because again, because if I'm a player
• 6:03
Speaker 7: at the end of my semester in December, then I'm transferred,
• 6:07
Speaker 7: I'm entering the transfer portal. Then I have basically about
• 6:09
Speaker 7: a month because school starts for most schools at the
• 6:12
Speaker 7: top or mid of January, so I have a month
• 6:14
Speaker 7: to figure that out. And again, if you are a
• 6:16
Speaker 7: coach like coach Huff, you almost have no choice but
• 6:19
Speaker 7: to leave at the timing that he did, because now
• 6:23
Speaker 7: he again he has to recruit probably some of those
• 6:26
Speaker 7: Marshall guys, right, he has to recruit the Southern miss
• 6:29
Speaker 7: locker room. He has to recruit the transfer portal, and
• 6:31
Speaker 7: he still probably has to find some high school kids
• 6:34
Speaker 7: to you know, to start recruiting there, and he has
• 6:37
Speaker 7: to hire a coaching staff, and he has to find
• 6:39
Speaker 7: a place to live for him as his family. So
• 6:41
Speaker 7: he got all this stuff to do basically in thirty days.
• 6:44
Speaker 7: So how are you gonna how you're gonna manage that.
• 6:46
Speaker 3: One of the things that I think that I think
• 6:48
Speaker 3: parents' high school parents need to hear was a piece
• 6:51
Speaker 3: of that that you said high school recruitment is a
• 6:56
Speaker 3: is a dying thing.
• 6:58
Speaker 4: Yeah, I mean, because because.
• 7:00
Speaker 3: Now with the idea of transfers, the idea of junior
• 7:05
Speaker 3: college players, who's gonna I mean, unless you're that special athlete,
• 7:12
Speaker 3: who who wants to have to worry about you maybe
• 7:15
Speaker 3: taking a couple of years to get ready when I
• 7:19
Speaker 3: can go find a juco player or I can get
• 7:23
Speaker 3: a kid to transfer.
• 7:24
Speaker 7: And I think that's particularly pregnant as far as when
• 7:27
  Speaker 7: you're looking at.
• 7:27
Speaker 4: The mid majors, especially for them, especially for them.
• 7:31
Speaker 7: Because they're going to they need guys immediately they become inug,
• 7:34
Speaker 7: plug and play. Again, if you're an elite high school athlete,
• 7:36
Speaker 7: then that's probably not your concern. But if you're not,
• 7:39
Speaker 7: if you're kind of a mid kind of a mid
• 7:40
Speaker 7: tier guy, you maybe you know, finding yourself, maybe finding
• 7:44
Speaker 7: it difficult to find a spot for yourself.
• 7:47
Speaker 4: I'm going to make the case too.
• 7:48
Speaker 3: I'm going to challenge that a little bit and say,
• 7:51
Speaker 3: I don't care who you are unless you are legitimately
• 7:54
Speaker 3: a guy that can walk in and play. I'm not
• 7:58
Speaker 3: I'm not really interested in you unless I end up leaving.
• 8:03
  Speaker 3: I've got a a I've got a scholarship or two
• 8:07
Speaker 3: that's left over. Okay, Now I want to go try
• 8:09
Speaker 3: to look and see if I can find me a
• 8:10
Speaker 3: high school guy. But I don't think that that's gonna work.
• 8:14
Speaker 3: I think college sports are going to go juco and
• 8:19
  Speaker 3: transfer totally.
• 8:21
Speaker 6: Man, I'm not arguing with that at all.
• 8:27
Speaker 5: I mean it makes perfect sense.
• 8:28
Speaker 6: And and and to go back to to you know,
• 8:31
Speaker 6: what we originally talked about with Pernetti and the American
• 8:34
Speaker 6: Athletic Conference and and and what his statements were. You know,
• 8:38
Speaker 6: I like your solution way better, hollis about changing you know,
• 8:42
Speaker 6: some of the standards for when the portal opens, and
• 8:45
Speaker 6: and you know, allowing these teams to to be able
• 8:48
Speaker 6: to stay together and and fulfill what they are you know, yeah,
• 8:52
Speaker 6: fulfill what they're supposed to be doing for their their
• 8:54
Speaker 6: football team. Instead his answer is Pernetti's answer to it
• 8:58
Speaker 6: is instead of addressing the elephant in the room, his
• 9:02
Speaker 6: statement is, well, then those schools shouldn't accept bull bids.
• 9:06
Speaker 6: If there's a question that they will not have enough
• 9:08
Speaker 6: players to field a team, or you know, whatever the
• 9:11
Speaker 6: reason might be, they just shouldn't accept bow bids. Well,
• 9:15
Speaker 6: to me, that is the most that's pretty ludicrous. Because
• 9:18
Speaker 6: we don't have a magic eight ball. They can't see
• 9:20
Speaker 6: in the future that forty or twenty five players are
• 9:23
Speaker 6: going to be leaving. They can suspect it and hope
• 9:25
Speaker 6: for the best, but it's not confirmed, and they want
• 9:29
Speaker 6: to accept those bull bids. They want their team to
• 9:31
Speaker 6: be able to go and be a part of that
• 9:34
Speaker 6: scenario and make the money for their school. They didn't
• 9:37
Speaker 6: want to buck out. That's not something that they envisioned,
• 9:40
  Speaker 6: I'm sure.
• 9:41
Speaker 7: And to that point again, I think again, I think
• 9:43
Speaker 7: he's totally off of like trying to punish schools.
• 9:46
  Speaker 4: I think that's ridiculous.
• 9:47
Speaker 7: Yes, but I think what needs to happen, and I
• 9:49
Speaker 7: think my solution to this, if everything's equal, want to
• 9:53
Speaker 7: keep it the same.
• 9:54
Speaker 4: We need to start football season earlier.
• 9:56
Speaker 7: So football season needs to start end of July, top
• 10:00
Speaker 7: of August, and it needs to end in the November.
• 10:04
Speaker 7: So that way, in the November, all the bowl games, playoffs,
• 10:08
Speaker 7: everything's done in the November, maybe even playing one or
• 10:10
Speaker 7: two less games. So that way, by the top of December,
• 10:14
Speaker 7: by the top of December, you have your transfer porter open,
• 10:19
Speaker 7: you can hire coaches and we can deal with and
• 10:21
Speaker 7: everybody can go into school at the top or the
• 10:23
Speaker 7: mid of January. So we need, actually, to me, we
• 10:26
Speaker 7: need to start football earlier, and in the earlier we
• 10:29
Speaker 7: got to push the schedule up. Let me ask you
• 10:31
Speaker 7: to this question, and this might this may be really
• 10:34
Speaker 7: a super dumb kind of question here, but why wouldn't
• 10:39
Speaker 7: it be Okay, so you got bowl game, bowl game,
• 10:42
Speaker 7: bowl game, you got all these names of these sponsored
• 10:45
Speaker 7: bowl games. Why wouldn't the bowl game and the advertisement
• 10:50
Speaker 7: all become the championship game of the conference. So the
• 10:54
Speaker 7: teams who win their conference, they you know, your game,
• 10:58
Speaker 7: that's that, that's your bowl game, instead of trying to
• 11:01
Speaker 7: play through a regular season, play your championship game.
• 11:05
Speaker 3: And then now you're going out to play a bowl game.
• 11:08
Speaker 3: That I you know the answer to that, come.
• 11:13
Speaker 7: On, we gotta it's probably probably part of the revenue stream, right,
• 11:16
  Speaker 7: but but yeah.
• 11:17
Speaker 3: But but does I mean at this point, I think
• 11:21
  Speaker 3: it's it's it's evident that that it's like bowl games
• 11:24
Speaker 3: are not a big deal, you know, And and now
• 11:27
  Speaker 3: you're you're getting like five hundred team, a team that's
• 11:32
Speaker 3: five hundred playing in the bowl game. And then you've
• 11:35
Speaker 3: got players who are thinking about going to the pros
• 11:38
Speaker 3: or or or hoping to go to the pros not
• 11:40
Speaker 3: even playing. So now you don't have your best players.
• 11:44
Speaker 7: And that's actually not a bad idea, I think what
• 11:48
Speaker 7: you so what you're saying is like if you if
• 11:52
Speaker 7: you make your conference championship, that just becomes a comfortable
• 11:55
Speaker 7: But again, I think.
• 11:57
Speaker 5: Every conference has a championships that I.
• 12:00
Speaker 4: Think most of them do now most of them.
• 12:02
Speaker 7: But the problem with that is like the five and five,
• 12:05
Speaker 7: the five and five team, they need that money too,
• 12:08
Speaker 7: and they ain't gonna get that money.
• 12:13
Speaker 3: But where we're going now, you know, like I know,
• 12:19
Speaker 3: this is not gonna get any better. This is gonna
• 12:21
Speaker 3: just get because just think.
• 12:23
Speaker 5: This will happen over and over. There'll be Marshalls everywhere.
• 12:26
  Speaker 4: Absolutely.
• 12:27
Speaker 3: Marshall is just the first team that this has happened to.
• 12:31
Speaker 3: But imagine another team with even a more notable name
• 12:35
Speaker 3: coach and he leaves and they just won let's say
• 12:39
Speaker 3: they won a championship, they won their conference, they did
• 12:42
Speaker 3: all this and that, and he's leaving to go to
• 12:45
Speaker 3: a better job. Are you staying behind? No, you're thinking maybe,
• 12:52
  Speaker 3: I don't even think it's maybe not. I'm not staying.
• 12:54
  Speaker 3: I'm going because I don't know who you're bringing in
• 12:57
Speaker 3: and we can see local here.
• 13:00
Speaker 4: Does it even matter who you bringing? What was the
• 13:03
Speaker 4: guy's name? What was his name? Forrenetti?
• 13:06
Speaker 5: You said I'd have to look at me, let me look.
• 13:08
Speaker 7: Okay with a guy from the who made the statement
• 13:11
Speaker 7: about punishing the schools. I see a situation in which
• 13:14
Speaker 7: a coach doesn't leave. The coach is there, but what
• 13:18
Speaker 7: happens is that they're going to this bowl game, and
• 13:20
Speaker 7: then maybe you have your five five to six best
• 13:23
Speaker 7: offensive players decide, hey, I'm not going to play because
• 13:26
Speaker 7: I'm going to the pros or whatever. I just don't
• 13:27
Speaker 7: want to play. It's not worth it. And then you
• 13:29
Speaker 7: have your five or six best defensive guys not wanting
• 13:31
Speaker 7: to play, and then the coach is looking around and saying, hey,
• 13:33
Speaker 7: I don't have basically my top guys here, so let's
• 13:37
Speaker 7: just not even do this. It's not worth me doing this,
• 13:40
Speaker 7: So let's just go ahead and start stop here and
• 13:42
Speaker 7: prepared for next season. I see a situation like that
• 13:44
Speaker 7: which would for the gentlemen of the official from the
• 13:47
Speaker 7: ACC comments can probably be pergnitant at that point. So
• 13:52
Speaker 7: I see a situation like that happening in the future.
• 13:54
Speaker 7: In addition to tim Pernetti, So I see a situation
• 13:57
Speaker 7: like that happening which temper Pernetti's idea would probably be right,
• 14:03
Speaker 7: and then there would be situations like Marshall as well.
• 14:06
Speaker 3: So it's it's like you said, it's just gonna get
• 14:08
Speaker 3: worse if you if you're a school, are you gonna
• 14:14
Speaker 3: be over? I mean, do you want this? Do you
• 14:16
Speaker 3: want so let's say, if you're a bold team, do
• 14:20
Speaker 3: you want this to happen? I'm gonna say no. But
• 14:22
Speaker 3: if I'm if I'm an if I'm not a bowl team,
• 14:25
Speaker 3: but thinking maybe one day I can get there.
• 14:28
Speaker 4: I'm supporting that. Is there a divide? Do you think
• 14:31
  Speaker 4: there's a huge divide?
• 14:32
Speaker 7: Because the balls don't mean anything other than what you
• 14:34
Speaker 7: what you're gonna just the revenue is going to generate
• 14:37
Speaker 7: for your school. Like I said, West Virginia played last
• 14:39
Speaker 7: night on a Tuesday without their best players, and it's
• 14:44
Speaker 7: just this means nothing.
• 14:45
Speaker 6: But you know, in a way it does mean something,
• 14:48
Speaker 6: especially for a team like Marshall. That was one of
• 14:50
Speaker 6: the best Bowl bids, the Independence Bowl that they've had
• 14:53
Speaker 6: in recent memory. And you know now that we've got
• 14:57
Speaker 6: the playoff and the champion in Ship system that we
• 15:01
Speaker 6: have in place, you know, these Nonpower five schools, I mean,
• 15:05
Speaker 6: we're left to get the crumbs, so to speak, to
• 15:08
Speaker 6: eat the crumbs and so we have to take what
• 15:11
Speaker 6: we get and appreciate it. And it was disappointing. I
• 15:15
Speaker 6: think a lot of fans are disappointed, even though we
• 15:18
Speaker 6: knew the team would not be exactly the same team
• 15:21
Speaker 6: that played in the Sun Belt Championship, really not even close.
• 15:24
Speaker 6: But still we were going to field a team and
• 15:26
Speaker 6: we were going to a bowl game. And that's in reality,
• 15:30
Speaker 6: some of the best that we're going to get. As
• 15:33
Speaker 6: Thundering Herd fans, it's going to a bowl like that.
• 15:35
  Speaker 4: I had.
• 15:36
  Speaker 3: I have a group I have a group of of
• 15:39
Speaker 3: former players that we text every morning, and it was
• 15:44
Speaker 3: interesting to me to hear these guys talk about, like
• 15:50
Speaker 3: how does this happen? Like how do you I mean,
• 15:52
Speaker 3: cause it's like right, it was like, we're not playing
• 15:57
Speaker 3: and we have an opportunity to be.
• 16:00
Speaker 4: Playing in the Bowl and we aren't, and we're not.
• 16:02
Speaker 3: We're we're now because we don't have enough players or
• 16:05
Speaker 3: we don't have the quality of players because what because
• 16:09
Speaker 3: the coach left and because the players left.
• 16:12
Speaker 4: And now we can't go to the bowl.
• 16:14
Speaker 7: Because they don't care about it that nobody cares about them.
• 16:18
Speaker 7: Players do not care about them balls, They don't care
• 16:21
  Speaker 7: about the trinkets.
• 16:22
  Speaker 4: They don't care.
• 16:25
Speaker 7: Yeah, but the players, And like I said, I think
• 16:27
Speaker 7: you just need to make a separate playoff. I think
• 16:30
Speaker 7: you need to have a non power five playoff.
• 16:32
Speaker 3: Like you say when you say players playoff, when you
• 16:36
Speaker 3: say no, when you say players don't care, and you
• 16:39
Speaker 3: say coaches don't care, let me let me let me
• 16:44
Speaker 3: try to define that a little bit down to something.
• 16:49
Speaker 4: I'm gonna think that the head coach does it.
• 16:52
Speaker 3: It doesn't matter to not all head coaches, but some
• 16:56
Speaker 3: head coaches do not care because they're they're.
• 16:59
Speaker 5: They're getting on their incentive clause.
• 17:01
Speaker 3: Yes, and they're getting and they're getting recruited by another
• 17:04
Speaker 3: team which is only going to be more money, which
• 17:06
Speaker 3: is great for them.
• 17:07
  Speaker 4: They don't care.
• 17:08
Speaker 3: So now all this and then the players, and then
• 17:11
Speaker 3: your top players, because you can't tell me that a
• 17:15
Speaker 3: backup did not want to play in that Bowl game.
• 17:17
Speaker 5: What you know, and we're playing a story team.
• 17:20
Speaker 6: I mean, I would think those players would have been
• 17:22
Speaker 6: interested in trying to go out and defeat Army.
• 17:25
Speaker 4: I mean, you know, Army had a good season to right, That's.
• 17:27
  Speaker 5: What I mean.
• 17:28
Speaker 6: So it depends on your opponent as well, whether or
• 17:30
Speaker 6: not they care about the.
• 17:30
Speaker 3: Back I want to play, man, but you don't care
• 17:33
Speaker 3: because you took a job before the bowl game knowing
• 17:36
Speaker 3: that that part of that you're taking that job was
• 17:39
Speaker 3: like I'm not going to coach the bowl game, and
• 17:42
Speaker 3: you entered the transfer portal knowing that me entering this,
• 17:46
Speaker 3: me being recruited again means that I'm not gonna play
• 17:49
Speaker 3: in this bowl game.
• 17:49
Speaker 4: You don't care about the game.
• 17:51
Speaker 5: The game I can see where it's.
• 17:53
Speaker 4: Not important to you. I'm not saying, let me let
• 17:57
  Speaker 4: me clarify.
• 17:57
Speaker 7: I'm not saying you wouldn't liked to play, and I'm
• 18:00
Speaker 7: not saying it's you know, it's maybe something you wouldn't
• 18:03
Speaker 7: looking forward to, but it was obviously something more important
• 18:07
Speaker 7: than that game. So again, I think we have to
• 18:10
Speaker 7: find and again, and I'm not saying I'm not saying
• 18:13
Speaker 7: to play. There's a cavalier and they just don't care
• 18:16
Speaker 7: about playing. I'm saying, due to the timing of everything,
• 18:19
Speaker 7: you have to make a decision, and obviously they made
• 18:21
Speaker 7: a decision to leave as opposed to playing the game.
• 18:24
Speaker 7: So I'm saying we have to either create a new
• 18:27
Speaker 7: system where we're creating something that's more meaningful or we
• 18:30
Speaker 7: have to work on the timing and making sure that
• 18:33
Speaker 7: everything is done top of December. Football should be done
• 18:36
  Speaker 7: top of December.
• 18:38
Speaker 3: I'm starting to think, because I'm trying to think, I
• 18:44
Speaker 3: know for a fact that if I was in this
• 18:46
Speaker 3: in this generation, you be in the trust, I would be.
• 18:49
Speaker 3: I would be in the transfer because because I because
• 18:52
  Speaker 3: I know what it's about.
• 18:53
Speaker 4: It's about the money and it's all that.
• 18:55
Speaker 3: But when I go back and think about it and
• 18:58
Speaker 3: say what I have left, you know, I mean, because
• 19:02
Speaker 3: there were tons of guys who left Marshall because we
• 19:04
Speaker 3: were losing and all that kind of stuff. Whether they
• 19:06
Speaker 3: went and played there, well, well it didn't even matter either.
• 19:10
Speaker 3: They might even just gave up football just because if
• 19:13
Speaker 3: we were losing and they were just gonna transfer, go
• 19:16
Speaker 3: somewhere and just be a student. Okay, I would have
• 19:19
Speaker 3: never thought I would have I would have never thought
• 19:23
Speaker 3: about leaving, no matter what the wins and losses were.
• 19:27
Speaker 3: I was playing and I was gonna play hard for Marshall.
• 19:31
Speaker 3: And now but this ain't no, that's I'm just saying.
• 19:36
Speaker 3: I'm just trying to figure out, like, when did when
• 19:39
Speaker 3: did when did this? When did the reality of nothing matters,
• 19:45
Speaker 3: but me take over this co.
• 19:49
Speaker 4: Created the n double A created is one hundred one.
• 19:55
Speaker 6: Players are just taking advantage of the system they've been given.
• 19:57
  Speaker 5: I mean, you can't blame the player. I don't blame
• 19:59
  Speaker 5: the player.
• 20:00
Speaker 4: I'm not even John.
• 20:01
Speaker 5: Cuba needs to fix this.
• 20:03
Speaker 6: They need to regulate it, do something, maybe even make
• 20:07
Speaker 6: the players sit out a year.
• 20:08
Speaker 5: I don't know that that might be too severe, but
• 20:10
  Speaker 5: they need to.
• 20:11
Speaker 4: Figure it wasn't severe back in the day.
• 20:13
Speaker 7: But basically, and again, the players weren't asking for nil. No,
• 20:17
Speaker 7: they were not asking for this. The players were saying, Hey,
• 20:20
Speaker 7: if you're gonna be at the podium after the game
• 20:23
Speaker 7: with your soft drink in hand, which is paying you
• 20:27
Speaker 7: to do that, coach, can I get a piece of that?
• 20:29
Speaker 7: If you're gonna sell my jersey in the bookstore, can
• 20:32
Speaker 7: I just get a piece of that?
• 20:34
  Speaker 4: The players?
• 20:34
Speaker 7: If it's twenty ten, you could have literally played players five,
• 20:40
Speaker 7: maybe anywhere from two thousand to five thousand on them
• 20:42
Speaker 7: and they would have been happy and nobody. And again,
• 20:45
Speaker 7: they probably would have been asking for a little bit more,
• 20:47
Speaker 7: but they wouldn't have been asking for this.
• 20:50
  Speaker 5: It's unbelievable.
• 20:50
Speaker 7: That's what I'm saying Ncuba screwed all this stuff, just
• 20:53
Speaker 7: like our ec DOUBLEA here in West Virginia, they screwed
• 20:57
Speaker 7: it up. So it's like, you know what I mean,
• 21:00
Speaker 7: Like you wait so long to do something that you
• 21:02
Speaker 7: should have done twenty thirty, forty years ago. Now at
• 21:05
Speaker 7: this time, it's a free for all. So it's like
• 21:08
Speaker 7: it's up to them to fix it now. So they
• 21:10
Speaker 7: have to go back and fix this.
• 21:12
Speaker 6: And even if they regulate it, here's a thought that
• 21:15
Speaker 6: just crossed my mind. Uh oh, but even if they
• 21:18
Speaker 6: fix it or regulate it, it's the smaller schools are
• 21:22
Speaker 6: still going to suffer. There's no way, ever, I'm sorry,
• 21:26
Speaker 6: there's no way that the smaller schools can come up
• 21:28
Speaker 6: with the NIO money that these SEC schools can come
• 21:33
Speaker 6: up with the bigger conferences, the big ten.
• 21:37
Speaker 5: There's just not enough resources.
• 21:38
Speaker 6: And so we're going to be in that continuous cycle
• 21:41
Speaker 6: of bringing in those players that they overlook, the big
• 21:44
Speaker 6: guys overlook at first, but they're talented players. They just
• 21:48
Speaker 6: somehow they don't click with those teams. We cultivate them,
• 21:51
Speaker 6: we develop them as players. We come up with a
• 21:54
Speaker 6: good team. We put together a good team that wins
• 21:56
Speaker 6: some conference championships, and what's going to happen every single time. Yeah,
• 22:00
Speaker 6: they're going to deplete the team and we're going to
• 22:02
Speaker 6: start all over. It's a continuous cycle. The bigger schools
• 22:05
Speaker 6: are going to continue to grab those those smaller schools
• 22:08
  Speaker 6: that the players.
• 22:08
Speaker 4: Act and coaches and coaches and.
• 22:10
Speaker 6: Coaches, you're right, coaches as well, the ones that produce
• 22:13
Speaker 6: and do well at these small schools, they'll they'll never.
• 22:16
Speaker 5: Be any continuity like we had back in the nineties.
• 22:20
  Speaker 3: With that's that's that's that is really a good point
• 22:24
Speaker 3: because everybody talks about continuity, whether it be through yet
• 22:29
Speaker 3: to the coaching staff, from the coaching staff down to
• 22:32
Speaker 3: the players, from players to player. If you don't have that,
• 22:35
Speaker 3: you don't even have a team. So how now do
• 22:39
  Speaker 3: I transfer?
• 22:41
  Speaker 2: You know?
• 22:42
Speaker 3: So I transfer from Marshall to Furman just because they're
• 22:45
Speaker 3: going to give me some money and and I'm going
• 22:49
Speaker 3: to probably be guaranteed to play. But I don't even
• 22:53
Speaker 3: know how These are the guys I didn't even like
• 22:56
Speaker 3: a year ago, but now I'm coming because strictly of
• 22:59
Speaker 3: the money, right, And are they gonna be okay with me?
• 23:03
Speaker 4: Yeah? I mean because because.
• 23:05
  Speaker 3: It's not like it's you're good like I don't know
• 23:09
Speaker 3: if it's just like you just automatic like every player
• 23:12
Speaker 3: that's gonna come in, you know how a team is
• 23:14
  Speaker 3: probably not.
• 23:15
Speaker 4: And now you're going to have.
• 23:16
Speaker 3: A guy that's gonna be And I'm gonna make the
• 23:18
Speaker 3: case when you bring in that top guy, that that
• 23:21
Speaker 3: high high dollar player. He's coming in with all the
• 23:26
Speaker 3: expectations of I'm gonna start, I'm getting the most money.
• 23:31
Speaker 6: It's probably part of his nil deal. So many starting
• 23:38
Speaker 6: but I'm not coming.
• 23:39
Speaker 3: Well, the question is would I come for the money
• 23:42
Speaker 3: even if I'm not guaranteed.
• 23:43
Speaker 4: To start percent I'm coming.
• 23:45
Speaker 7: But the thing is with with you know how teams
• 23:47
Speaker 7: can get clickie right, it's it's a group of those
• 23:50
Speaker 7: guys coming into these teams. Now, It's not like it's
• 23:52
Speaker 7: what this is coming in So it's like five or
• 23:54
Speaker 7: ten guys coming in at a time. So we all buddy,
• 23:58
Speaker 7: y'all came from the portal. So everybody may not be
• 24:02
Speaker 7: getting paid the same, right, but y'all would transfers coming in.
• 24:05
Speaker 7: So it's like now kids are now they're just used
• 24:08
Speaker 7: to it now, so you're used to playing with new
• 24:10
Speaker 7: guys every year. So like I said, it's just I
• 24:13
Speaker 7: think that's just the way it's going to be until
• 24:15
  Speaker 7: it's fixed.
• 24:16
Speaker 3: So as as much as I hate to even bring
• 24:19
Speaker 3: this up as part of this, so what if we
• 24:26
Speaker 3: start doing this in high school football in West Virginia.
• 24:30
Speaker 4: What do you mean you're with with with money and
• 24:34
Speaker 4: all of that in coming.
• 24:36
Speaker 6: And I think it's already happening in such states.
• 24:41
Speaker 3: Started and there's been talk about it trying to to
• 24:45
  Speaker 3: get it here.
• 24:45
Speaker 7: But I think that's more like you can like seek endorsements.
• 24:49
Speaker 7: I don't think the money is coming from like the
• 24:50
Speaker 7: boosters in those other states.
• 24:53
Speaker 3: But either way, where you how how many teams, Like.
• 25:01
Speaker 4: Where are you gonna go?
• 25:02
Speaker 3: Like right now, if you're saying I can go anywhere
• 25:06
Speaker 3: I want, or who's I'm the best player on my team,
• 25:10
Speaker 3: who's coming after me? Right, it's gonna be a team
• 25:13
Speaker 3: up north. The best teams are gonna get the best guys.
• 25:17
Speaker 3: They're gonna keep getting the best guy.
• 25:18
Speaker 5: Here we go and.
• 25:19
Speaker 4: Here we go. And there's a huge separation that you
• 25:22
  Speaker 4: create there.
• 25:22
Speaker 7: And it just unless you got somebody with deep pockets
• 25:24
Speaker 7: who's an alumni some some of the lower.
• 25:26
Speaker 5: Schools, and that's the side part. That's the side part.
• 25:29
Speaker 4: I don't. Well, let me just say this out right.
• 25:33
Speaker 4: I'm not giving the school of money.
• 25:35
Speaker 3: I'm not giving them any money for to pay a
• 25:37
Speaker 3: high school athlete, college athletes. I'm not doing it. I will,
• 25:41
Speaker 3: I did, I'm not doing it. I'm supporting.
• 25:43
Speaker 7: Like I said, I if I have the money, if
• 25:45
Speaker 7: I have the resources, and I did, right, I donated
• 25:49
Speaker 7: money and went to the nil collective. So that's my school.
• 25:53
Speaker 7: That's that's the game we plan. So why not I
• 25:56
Speaker 7: want to see my school win. It's not like I
• 25:59
Speaker 7: can do anything. I'm just too I'm just too old.
• 26:03
Speaker 7: I it took me to get to the PROS to
• 26:06
Speaker 7: get a dollar. But it's like, you're donating the money
• 26:08
Speaker 7: to somebody's scholarship. Why not donate money to help them
• 26:12
  Speaker 7: be better?
• 26:13
Speaker 4: Got scholarship? They making know that? That ain't it? That
• 26:16
Speaker 4: ain't enough. So I'm saying, make it to the pros
• 26:18
  Speaker 4: and get that.
• 26:19
Speaker 5: If you had, I agree.
• 26:20
Speaker 7: If you had, what I'm saying is you had, you
• 26:22
Speaker 7: had twenty thirty thousand dollars lying around you. You're not
• 26:25
Speaker 7: gonna donate that to help you. No, I got a
• 26:27
Speaker 7: grand I'm don well.
• 26:31
Speaker 6: Isn't there a difference between donating to the school and
• 26:33
Speaker 6: donating to players individually, right, Because if you would donate
• 26:37
Speaker 6: twenty or thirty thousand to the school, the school would
• 26:41
Speaker 6: you know, kind of apply that to the facilities to
• 26:46
Speaker 6: you know, just making the facilities better, not paying an individual.
• 26:52
Speaker 4: Ear market to their collective.
• 26:55
Speaker 6: But then that's going to involve parents because you've got
• 26:57
Speaker 6: most of your high school kids are under the age
• 27:00
  Speaker 6: of eighteen.
• 27:00
Speaker 7: Right, I'm not talking I'm talking about college. I'm not
• 27:03
  Speaker 7: talking about.
• 27:08
Speaker 3: Okay, Okay, no, because now I'm asking what do we do,
• 27:12
Speaker 3: what if we do if it shows up.
• 27:13
  Speaker 4: In high school?
• 27:14
Speaker 7: But I think this structure high school is different. I
• 27:16
Speaker 7: don't think it's going to the boosters and the boosters
• 27:18
Speaker 7: is paying the kid directly. I think, you know, it's
• 27:21
Speaker 7: that kid has the ability to sell items or sell
• 27:24
Speaker 7: his image, you know what I mean. I don't think
• 27:26
  Speaker 7: it's like college.
• 27:26
  Speaker 3: So you're saying if a store, if I'm a big
• 27:29
Speaker 3: enough high school athlete, if Gatorade wanted to pay you
• 27:33
Speaker 3: money to do a commercial, you could do it, okay.
• 27:36
Speaker 7: As opposed to college, A lot of the money is
• 27:38
Speaker 7: coming directly or indirectly through this.
• 27:42
Speaker 3: Do we have that that athlete? I mean, because you're
• 27:46
Speaker 3: talking about a Robert Alexander, you're talking about a Kurt Warner,
• 27:48
Speaker 3: You're talking about a Randy Moss. You're talking about somebody
• 27:51
Speaker 3: a high school athlete that is that is phenomenal, phenomenal,
• 27:56
Speaker 3: And we don't like those guys don't come every.
• 27:59
Speaker 4: Year, may not have this year, but it'll be one
• 28:01
  Speaker 4: out there.
• 28:02
Speaker 7: It'll be some kids out there who's because because the
• 28:05
Speaker 7: thing about it is it's not necessarily what you're always
• 28:08
Speaker 7: doing on the field. It could be a kid out
• 28:10
Speaker 7: there who's a decent ball player, but he's great on
• 28:13
Speaker 7: social media. He got hundreds of thousands. You had the
• 28:15
Speaker 7: guy him at South Charleston, right, he played football. He
• 28:18
Speaker 7: has millions of followers on social media. He would be
• 28:21
Speaker 7: the perfect example of that, you know what I mean.
• 28:23
Speaker 7: He probably okay on the field, a social media is
• 28:27
  Speaker 7: going crazy.
• 28:27
Speaker 3: So but again, you don't even need to pay him
• 28:30
Speaker 3: because he's making it off of.
• 28:33
Speaker 4: But why not paying if somebody want to pay and
• 28:36
Speaker 4: keep the promote the ball? Yeah, why not? I think
• 28:40
  Speaker 4: that's where it's coming.
• 28:43
  Speaker 5: I think it's I think it's bad enough.
• 28:44
Speaker 6: It's at the collegiate level, and if we get we
• 28:46
Speaker 6: give that route in high school.
• 28:48
  Speaker 5: I don't know. I just it's it's kind of it's scary.
• 28:54
Speaker 5: It's scary to me.
• 28:55
Speaker 4: But I think it.
• 28:56
Speaker 3: I think we we really ruined teamwork and the and
• 29:04
Speaker 3: the and the bond that I think that comes with
• 29:08
Speaker 3: high school and collegiate sports. I'm chasing money, not I'm not.
• 29:14
Speaker 3: You know, I don't even care to leave. You know,
• 29:16
Speaker 3: a group of guys that I played two years, three
• 29:19
Speaker 3: years with, I'm gonna leave it as a senior. I'm
• 29:21
Speaker 3: gonna go play somewhere else because I'm gonna get some money.
• 29:24
Speaker 3: I'm gonna leave these guys, and I'm gonna go try
• 29:27
Speaker 3: to fit in for one season at a school that
• 29:32
  Speaker 3: I mean, I've already I didn't even like that I
• 29:34
Speaker 3: played against. But but now they're knocking on my door.
• 29:37
Speaker 3: What am I gonna do? I'm i gotta go.
• 29:39
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 29:39
Speaker 6: And just to remember, you know, whatever everyone always has said,
• 29:43
Speaker 6: there is no I in team and and football is
• 29:45
Speaker 6: is team oriented, and and we're moving away from the
• 29:49
Speaker 6: teamwork part of it and individualizing it. We're glorifying the
• 29:54
Speaker 6: individual players rather than the schools and the teams, which
• 29:57
Speaker 6: is the way that it was when.
• 29:59
Speaker 3: We were And what's scary to to that valid point
• 30:03
Speaker 3: is Hollis is like, Okay, so let's say I'm on,
• 30:08
Speaker 3: I'm playing at South truston and I'm and I'm good,
• 30:13
Speaker 3: you know, at least let me make the case.
• 30:14
  Speaker 4: I think I'm good.
• 30:16
Speaker 3: You know, I've scored some touchdowns, I've got some interceptions,
• 30:19
Speaker 3: I've done some some of this, and I and I
• 30:22
Speaker 3: want I want some inn I ow money, you know,
• 30:25
Speaker 3: and if I don't get it, you know, maybe somebody
• 30:28
Speaker 3: else is gonna offer to me.
• 30:31
Speaker 4: But I might be the only key player that we have.
• 30:36
Speaker 3: I don't even care about that. I don't care about you.
• 30:40
  Speaker 4: You know.
• 30:41
Speaker 3: Let's say I'm your receiver, and and and and and
• 30:43
Speaker 3: you're and I'm the only guy you can throw the
• 30:45
Speaker 3: ball to. I ain't thinking about you. To me, They're like,
• 30:53
Speaker 3: there are guys that you like bond with on the
• 30:56
Speaker 3: tee and I know that that is that what kills
• 30:58
Speaker 3: me is that is gone.
• 31:00
Speaker 4: I can remember playing in the pros.
• 31:02
Speaker 3: I can remember playing at Marshall, losing and dealing with
• 31:05
Speaker 3: guys knowing that we're losing, knowing that we're going into
• 31:07
Speaker 3: a game losing, but bonding together saying like, man, look,
• 31:11
Speaker 3: let's go play as hard as we can play. Let's
• 31:13
Speaker 3: go out and try to get this w knowing that
• 31:15
Speaker 3: we probably not going to get it.
• 31:16
Speaker 7: Ain't no Iron team, it ain't no Iron bond, but
• 31:19
Speaker 7: it's an iron win. The definition and the definition, Yeah,
• 31:27
Speaker 7: the definition of what a win is to these kids
• 31:31
Speaker 7: is different than what it win a win was to us.
• 31:34
Speaker 7: And if you're a senior at Marshall and you've done
• 31:37
Speaker 7: all the things and you got glory, and you helped
• 31:40
Speaker 7: the team, you built bonds, and Marshall can only afford
• 31:43
Speaker 7: to pay you twenty five thirty thousand a year, you're
• 31:46
Speaker 7: really good. And then Ohio University or Miami, Ohio or
• 31:50
Speaker 7: whoever Southern miss can say, hey, for this one year
• 31:56
Speaker 7: you got left, I'm gonna give you one hundred and
• 31:57
  Speaker 7: fifty grand.
• 31:59
  Speaker 4: You're going to get that. I'm I'm going. I'm so.
• 32:02
Speaker 7: The definition of what a win was back in the
• 32:05
Speaker 7: day is different than what a win is now.
• 32:08
Speaker 4: And you know it's bad.
• 32:09
Speaker 3: What I think is bad about that is the adults
• 32:13
Speaker 3: in the room and those who supposedly should be protecting
• 32:18
Speaker 3: and making the game better. This is this is their fault.
• 32:23
Speaker 3: This is all their fault. They created this mess and
• 32:26
Speaker 3: and and all that that you taught me about teamwork
• 32:30
Speaker 3: and all that kind of stuff. You have now put
• 32:34
Speaker 3: put a product out there that makes me say, I
• 32:36
Speaker 3: don't have to worry about you, or at least all
• 32:38
Speaker 3: I'm worried about is just me.
• 32:40
Speaker 7: Because they were greedy initially, the NCAA coaches, athletic departments, administrations,
• 32:47
Speaker 7: they were all greedy. They wanted everything for themselves when
• 32:52
Speaker 7: all they had to do is just sprinkle a little
• 32:54
Speaker 7: crumbs to these players and everything would have been consistent
• 32:57
Speaker 7: to how it was back then. But now out the cats,
• 33:00
Speaker 7: out the bag, and everybody wants their piece. But I
• 33:03
Speaker 7: think what you said earlier, I think if that if
• 33:06
Speaker 7: we just started there of give me a couple thousands.
• 33:10
Speaker 3: If you're a senior you get X number. Yeah, okay,
• 33:14
Speaker 3: if you are a junior you get X number. Sophomore
• 33:17
Speaker 3: freshmen you get whatever comes in. That's what that that's
• 33:21
Speaker 3: the pay scale, okay. And that could be ten thousand
• 33:25
Speaker 3: down to two thousand, okay. And that's all they were asking.
• 33:28
Speaker 3: And I think everything would have been fine.
• 33:33
Speaker 4: All right, we got house, this gotta go. Let's take
• 33:36

• 34:40
Speaker 4: All right, ladies and gentlemen, we had.
• 34:44
Speaker 3: Just a crazy quick second there with Holli's exiting.
• 34:47
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 34:50
Speaker 3: And what that shows is is we kind of get
• 34:52
Speaker 3: into conversations and if you were supposed to be leaving
• 34:54
Speaker 3: at a certain time, you may forget it.
• 34:56
Speaker 4: So he forgot it.
• 34:57
Speaker 5: It looks like a oh collegiate days on the field,
• 34:59
  Speaker 5: didn't he?
• 35:00
Speaker 4: Yes, he was. He was actually quite mobile.
• 35:03
  Speaker 6: Uh.
• 35:03

• 35:20
Speaker 5: You yes, yes, yes, so.
• 35:25
  Speaker 4: Help me.
• 35:27
Speaker 3: I just want to go back just a second, and
• 35:28
Speaker 3: then you can jump into your in the into your note.
• 35:31
  Speaker 2: Sure.
• 35:34
Speaker 3: I don't know if if you can have a team
• 35:36
Speaker 3: sport right, I don't care what it is. How do
• 35:41
Speaker 3: you create an individual, individualized system for me to get
• 35:53
Speaker 3: I'm gonna work as hard as I can to be
• 35:55
Speaker 3: the best player so I can get them, maybe just
• 35:57
Speaker 3: because I want to get the money, and so maybe
• 36:00
Speaker 3: you think you're just as good as me. And now
• 36:03
Speaker 3: we have this issue between us, how do you is
• 36:07
Speaker 3: there any way to is there any way to prevent
• 36:10
Speaker 3: that or is that going to happen.
• 36:11
Speaker 4: Do we care? Do these kids care who's making the most.
• 36:15
Speaker 5: Or Oh yeah, that's a good point.
• 36:17
Speaker 6: I really I haven't really considered that, but you know,
• 36:20
Speaker 6: at some point, I'm sure they're aware of who's making
• 36:25
Speaker 6: the most money on the team. I know, you know,
• 36:31
Speaker 6: the collegiate world is like that. I'm sure the players
• 36:34
Speaker 6: are very aware of who's getting what on their team.
• 36:38
Speaker 5: And that's got to be an issue.
• 36:40
Speaker 6: You know, they all they all want to be the
• 36:45
Speaker 6: best and make the most money, and so they're going
• 36:48
Speaker 6: to be instead of working together.
• 36:50
  Speaker 5: As a team.
• 36:51
Speaker 6: To me, that may create some i want to say,
• 36:55
Speaker 6: like tensions between players and they may not gel as
• 37:00
Speaker 6: well on the field.
• 37:01
Speaker 3: And here's the thing, they don't say it. I'm not
• 37:04
Speaker 3: gonna say. You know, I'm gonna act around you. Every
• 37:07
Speaker 3: time I'm around you, I'm gonna act kind of normal, normal,
• 37:10
Speaker 3: but I'm mad because you're getting more than I'm getting.
• 37:13
Speaker 5: Exactly see. I think that play on the field, and I.
• 37:17
Speaker 3: Think even more so on the high school level because
• 37:20
Speaker 3: there there younger immature and they want to be the
• 37:25
Speaker 3: I mean, who doesn't want to be the best.
• 37:26
Speaker 4: Player on your high school team?
• 37:27
Speaker 3: Sure, and if let's just say, we got a team
• 37:30
Speaker 3: that's really good, all of a sudden we throw money
• 37:33
Speaker 3: into that. Now parents are going to try to decide
• 37:39
Speaker 3: if my kid is better than your kid?
• 37:41
Speaker 5: Right, and you really have some issues.
• 37:44
Speaker 3: See I think all of I think we're inviting all
• 37:46
Speaker 3: of that into the into the.
• 37:49
Speaker 6: Equation that doesn't need to be a player, does not
• 37:51
Speaker 6: need to be I mean, it is bad enough. We
• 37:52
Speaker 6: have the transfer portal at the high school level, in
• 37:55
Speaker 6: my opinion, with no ramifications. They can just switch it.
• 37:58
Speaker 6: Will You know that that's an issue in itself. And
• 38:02
Speaker 6: you throw in il in the mix. You talk about
• 38:06
Speaker 6: a powder keg waiting to go off. That is exactly
• 38:09
Speaker 6: what it's going to be, because like you said, they're kids.
• 38:12
Speaker 6: It's going to be the parents, the guardians, the ones
• 38:15
Speaker 6: that understand what's going on with Nil more so than
• 38:19
Speaker 6: the kids that are going to be the ones that.
• 38:21
Speaker 4: I'm gonna want my kids. I'm automatically thinking my kid
• 38:24
  Speaker 4: is better.
• 38:24
Speaker 3: Than your exactly and I heard that you're making twenty
• 38:29
Speaker 3: five thousand a season.
• 38:32
Speaker 4: Well wait a minute, wait a minute, right, he is better?
• 38:36
Speaker 3: Absolutely, Yeah, So we need to have a conversation.
• 38:39
Speaker 4: And if we don't have a conversation. Then you know
• 38:41
  Speaker 4: what I'm doing.
• 38:42
Speaker 3: I'm looking to see if I can go to another
• 38:44
Speaker 3: team that's gonna pay me more than what I'm getting here.
• 38:47
Speaker 6: And then that's also going to play into especially at
• 38:50
Speaker 6: the high school level, the socioeconomics, yes, factors that play
• 38:54
Speaker 6: into schools and districts.
• 38:55
  Speaker 5: As it is.
• 38:56
Speaker 6: As it is, it's already a problem, and you're just
• 39:00
Speaker 6: gonna add fuel to the fire. I mean, it's it's
• 39:02
  Speaker 6: it's it's scary, and I think it's coming.
• 39:04
Speaker 5: That's the bad part. Like I said, it's almost like
• 39:07
  Speaker 5: it's like it's like.
• 39:11
  Speaker 4: You're standing there.
• 39:12
Speaker 6: Just you can't move because it's all coming and and
• 39:15
Speaker 6: and it's ruining. It's ruining things. It's ruining football in
• 39:19
Speaker 6: my opinion. And I know Hollis would disagree.
• 39:22
Speaker 4: But yes, I'm I'm with you.
• 39:24
Speaker 3: And and again I want to make sure if please
• 39:27
Speaker 3: message me, if you have a conversation about this, if
• 39:32
Speaker 3: you have a positive side to it that you want
• 39:34
Speaker 3: to you want to express, you can.
• 39:37
Speaker 4: You can reach out. It's on my.
• 39:39
Speaker 3: Facebook page, Curly or let's talk with Crale either one,
• 39:44
Speaker 3: because most people are on the on the cral leg
• 39:46
Speaker 3: when so just go to the messager, send me a
• 39:50
Speaker 3: message telling me a little bit about what you think,
• 39:53
Speaker 3: because I'm curious about what what parents are thinking, what
• 39:59
Speaker 3: former app lets are thinking, you know, engin what does
• 40:02
  Speaker 3: the general public.
• 40:03
  Speaker 4: Think about it?
• 40:04
Speaker 3: Right, Because I think everybody has their own little piece
• 40:07
Speaker 3: of interest as much as much as they're you know,
• 40:11
Speaker 3: you know playing. You know, a kid's got an issue.
• 40:14
Speaker 3: Parents got a thought process, and then the fan has
• 40:17
Speaker 3: a process, and then the person who's like just hearing
• 40:19
Speaker 3: about this, they're going to have a side, right, And
• 40:22
Speaker 3: I'm curious to see what those sides are.
• 40:24
Speaker 6: Yeah, I would like to hear the other the other
• 40:27
Speaker 6: side of it too as well, because we're kind of
• 40:29
Speaker 6: in agreement on this. But here, here's here's my here's
• 40:32
Speaker 6: my overall thought about all of this.
• 40:35
Speaker 5: If the high schools decide.
• 40:37
Speaker 6: To go that route and they handle it even half
• 40:43
Speaker 6: as as bad as the NCAA has handled it, you're
• 40:47
Speaker 6: going to have a complete mess at that level.
• 40:49
Speaker 4: Can you Well, here's my thing.
• 40:51
Speaker 3: How do you handle it when let's say you got
• 40:56
Speaker 3: schools that are in certain areas that don't have exactly access.
• 41:02
Speaker 4: To businesses and such and such that can.
• 41:05
Speaker 5: Donate my economic factors there and.
• 41:08
Speaker 3: Then you've got other places that can you know, there's
• 41:11
Speaker 3: all kinds of money around and people are willing to
• 41:14
Speaker 3: throw money at the school.
• 41:17
Speaker 6: When you look at those schools or right now, it's
• 41:19
Speaker 6: a perfect example, even though we don't have nil but
• 41:21
Speaker 6: you've got Martinsburg, You've got you know, spring Mills are
• 41:27
Speaker 6: all in the northern, like you said, the northern part
• 41:28
Speaker 6: of the state that has more access to everything business wise,
• 41:35
Speaker 6: you know, all the metro things that go along with
• 41:37
Speaker 6: being near a big city like DC.
• 41:39
Speaker 5: And then you've got teams that are in Clay.
• 41:41
Speaker 6: County or in you know, the southern part of the
• 41:45
Speaker 6: state that doesn't have all the access.
• 41:48
Speaker 4: And can a high school really bring you a whole
• 41:52
  Speaker 4: lot of advertising?
• 41:54
  Speaker 5: No, I don't buy I.
• 41:56
  Speaker 4: Don't buy that.
• 41:57
Speaker 3: I mean you could, you could pick on the events
• 41:59
Speaker 3: you can, but most people already.
• 42:02
Speaker 5: Know or in the program.
• 42:07
Speaker 3: Really isn't So it's not even really it is all
• 42:11
Speaker 3: about trying to build your your sports team, sure, based
• 42:15
Speaker 3: on players outside of your area period, right You're just
• 42:20
Speaker 3: trying to bring new players in just so that you can.
• 42:25
Speaker 4: Throw your your program with team with players outside of
• 42:28
  Speaker 4: your area.
• 42:31
Speaker 5: Yeah, I'm just taking somewhere no, No, I mean I.
• 42:35
Speaker 6: Think, just to sum it up, I really feel like
• 42:38
Speaker 6: I just hope that lest I mean, I've heard whispers.
• 42:41
Speaker 6: I don't know if you have that the legislature's considering this,
• 42:43
Speaker 6: like this is something that could be real in West Virginia.
• 42:46
Speaker 3: How do you not, Okay, but Lisa, how do you
• 42:48
Speaker 3: not look at this and see all the confusion behind
• 42:51
Speaker 3: it and all of the issues that come with it, Like,
• 42:53
  Speaker 3: how do you.
• 42:54
  Speaker 6: Just like, I don't think they are I don't want
• 42:58
Speaker 6: to think they think it's good. Don't want to sound callous,
• 43:00
Speaker 6: but I don't think they care. I think they only
• 43:02
Speaker 6: care about who it's affecting personally in their own little world,
• 43:07
Speaker 6: in their own little high school worlds. And so when
• 43:10
Speaker 6: you when you don't look at the big picture and
• 43:12
Speaker 6: you don't consider, like what we were talking about, the
• 43:15
Speaker 6: schools that don't have the access to to the to
• 43:18
Speaker 6: the metro areas and the businesses and the money and
• 43:22
Speaker 6: so forth. When you don't look at the whole big picture,
• 43:26
Speaker 6: it doesn't sound so horrible because you're just thinking about
• 43:30
Speaker 6: those schools that already have access to everything. You're not
• 43:33
Speaker 6: looking at the whole thing.
• 43:35
Speaker 5: Does that make sense?
• 43:36
Speaker 6: It does, and I don't know how you do that.
• 43:41
Speaker 6: I mean, especially as you know, if that's something they're considering.
• 43:43
Speaker 6: I'm not throwing the legislature under the bus, but if
• 43:46
Speaker 6: that's something they're looking at, they need to look at
• 43:48
  Speaker 6: the big picture.
• 43:49
Speaker 3: They have to see, they have to It's just like
• 43:51
Speaker 3: the transfer period. This was somebody who pushed this through
• 43:57
Speaker 3: simply for his own benefit, his own team.
• 44:02
Speaker 4: That's all that mattered.
• 44:03
Speaker 3: All that mattered to him was to get his child
• 44:09
Speaker 3: an opportunity to go and swim somewhere else.
• 44:14
Speaker 6: That's right, And we've come full circle, and that that's
• 44:17
Speaker 6: what we what we've been saying all along. The problem
• 44:20
Speaker 6: that we're facing with football, is it as a team
• 44:23
Speaker 6: sport that's becoming individualized.
• 44:25
Speaker 3: Yes, yes, because because of an an individualized sport, right
• 44:32
Speaker 3: wants to go somewhere else, right, and you let them.
• 44:36
Speaker 3: And now all of a sudden, everybody's saying, well, hey,
• 44:38
  Speaker 3: wait a.
• 44:38
Speaker 5: Minute, you if you did that, that can happen.
• 44:41
Speaker 4: We can do that.
• 44:43
Speaker 3: And I don't think anybody saw it when they were
• 44:46
  Speaker 3: saying yes.
• 44:47
  Speaker 4: We can go, I don't.
• 44:48
Speaker 3: I'm gonna give them the benefit of the doubt. I'm
• 44:52
Speaker 3: gonna give the benefit of the doubt that they weren't
• 44:54
Speaker 3: expecting like this would go this crazy.
• 44:57
Speaker 5: I don't know how you couldn't expect that.
• 44:59
Speaker 4: I don't either, but I'm gonna give them the benefit
• 45:01
  Speaker 4: of the doubt.
• 45:02
Speaker 3: But as soon as it started, you should have you
• 45:04
Speaker 3: should have jumped in and started thinking about how do
• 45:07
Speaker 3: we how do we cap this, how do we do
• 45:09
Speaker 3: something to slow it down? But you've now you've ruined
• 45:12
Speaker 3: football programs like total that what you're over what you
• 45:17
Speaker 3: what you oversee, you have ruined programs specifically because.
• 45:24
  Speaker 4: Right of this.
• 45:26
Speaker 5: Yes, absolutely, this is crazy. It's all. It's all. I
• 45:31
Speaker 5: don't even know how to describe it.
• 45:33
Speaker 6: I have no words, but I mean, like I said,
• 45:35
Speaker 6: going back to what we said about Marshall, think about Marshall. There,
• 45:38
Speaker 6: there's no way, no way, there's they'll ever be able
• 45:43
Speaker 6: to be a Cinderella in that championship brackets in future
• 45:49
Speaker 6: because every time they get a team that gets close
• 45:51
Speaker 6: to even sniffing the top twelve, Yep, they're gonna they're
• 45:55
Speaker 6: gonna be destroyed by the bigger schools. They're going to
• 45:57
Speaker 6: take those players and run. And that's exactly what it's
• 46:00
Speaker 6: going to happen. And so, like I said, the teams
• 46:01
Speaker 6: that the Georgia's the Alabata, they'll get stronger and stronger
• 46:04
Speaker 6: from this. And all of us are just we're just
• 46:07
Speaker 6: you know, foraging for the scraps that are thrown to
• 46:09
Speaker 6: us in both games.
• 46:11
Speaker 5: Yes, that don't matter.
• 46:12
Speaker 3: And and to Hollis's point, and I and I will
• 46:15
Speaker 3: I will somewhat agree that you can't. You know, you
• 46:19
Speaker 3: can't blame the coach for taking a higher paid job,
• 46:23
Speaker 3: right And if there's money out there for players, you
• 46:26
Speaker 3: can't necessarily, no, you can't keep them from wanting to
• 46:32
Speaker 3: chase the money because it's there. You put it out there.
• 46:37
Speaker 3: But there's no loyalty here. But you're creating no loyalty.
• 46:40
Speaker 3: You're not creating team, you're not creating anything. But I
• 46:44
Speaker 3: just hope I'm just the best player because if I'm
• 46:46
Speaker 3: the best player, man, I've got a shot to get money.
• 46:50
Speaker 6: Well, I just thought of something, try to lighten the
• 46:52
Speaker 6: mood a little bit. But you know how whenever you
• 46:54
Speaker 6: guys are introduced in the NFL and you they say
• 46:57
Speaker 6: their name, their position, and what school they went to. Yes,
• 46:59
Speaker 6: can you imagine what's going to be like in ten years?
• 47:02
  Speaker 2: Uh?
• 47:02
Speaker 6: They're gonna name like Marshall Southern miss Alabama. I mean,
• 47:06
Speaker 6: you know it's I mean, because that's the reality.
• 47:09
Speaker 5: He's going to be anywhere for an, you know, the
• 47:12
  Speaker 5: whole period.
• 47:13
Speaker 3: Of their career, because everybody's going to be recruiting from
• 47:16
Speaker 3: what's already there. That's why I'm saying high school, high
• 47:18
Speaker 3: school athletics. Yeah, it's going to be really a huge
• 47:23
Speaker 3: challenge because why are you going to try to get
• 47:25
Speaker 3: a high school athlete, a high school quarterback, a high
• 47:29
  Speaker 3: school lineman.
• 47:30
Speaker 4: Unless they're literally like really good.
• 47:34
Speaker 3: You're gonna you're gonna be if you can find one
• 47:36
Speaker 3: in the portal and pay them.
• 47:38
Speaker 4: You know, that's what's gonna happen.
• 47:40
  Speaker 6: I think it's what's gonna happen is you're more affluent
• 47:44
Speaker 6: area schools that have.
• 47:48
Speaker 5: The students that their parents are.
• 47:50
Speaker 6: In lucrative, more lucrative careers than other areas are going
• 47:54
Speaker 6: to be the ones that profit from this.
• 47:56
  Speaker 4: Absolutely absolutely.
• 47:58
Speaker 3: All Right, Well, I know you had some so I
• 48:00
Speaker 3: want to make sure we good.
• 48:02
Speaker 5: We'll just go north a little bit here.
• 48:04
Speaker 6: We go north and south all the time in West
• 48:06
Speaker 6: Virginia when we talk on the show. But yeah, I
• 48:08
Speaker 6: just wanted to touch base on the Frisco Ball. It
• 48:10
Speaker 6: kind of ties into what we were talking about with
• 48:12
Speaker 6: Moleseason in general, because you know, w rolls into the
• 48:15
Speaker 6: Frisco Ball with an interim coach, right, some of their
• 48:19
Speaker 6: players decided, you know, not to take part in the game.
• 48:23
Speaker 5: There were even some players that.
• 48:25
Speaker 6: Before the game I saw on social media were wearing
• 48:28
Speaker 6: shirts that insinuated that they still supported Neil Brown.
• 48:33
Speaker 5: So that threw some controversy into the whole mix.
• 48:36
Speaker 6: But they go and they played Memphis, who was ranking
• 48:39
Speaker 6: number twenty five, and of course they come out flat
• 48:43
Speaker 6: first quarter as expected, and they were down seventeen to
• 48:47
Speaker 6: nothing before even the second quarter began. They did clawback
• 48:51
Speaker 6: and fight their way to make it a more interesting game,
• 48:56
Speaker 6: but they ended up losing, and they end their season
• 48:58
Speaker 6: at six and seven at a bowl game. So they
• 49:02
Speaker 6: had a losing season because they were what we've talked
• 49:06
Speaker 6: about all along. They were six and six or yeah,
• 49:08
Speaker 6: six and six rollings into that game, so they ended
• 49:10
Speaker 6: up six and seven. But we do have rich Rod
• 49:16
Speaker 6: coming in and I think that I know last week
• 49:20
Speaker 6: we talked a little bit Carl about how the fan
• 49:22
Speaker 6: base feels and we felt like it was, or at
• 49:25
Speaker 6: least I thought it was a fifty to fifty sort
• 49:26
Speaker 6: of thing. But I think once he was introduced, and
• 49:31
Speaker 6: of course he's got charisma and personality.
• 49:33
Speaker 5: I don't know if you know much about rich Brod.
• 49:35
  Speaker 6: But he's he's he's sharp, he's witty, and he knows
• 49:40
  Speaker 6: he's a good coach.
• 49:40
  Speaker 5: He's a good coach. Yes, he's a good coach.
• 49:42
Speaker 6: And so I think after his presentation as the new HC,
• 49:46
Speaker 6: and also having Pat McAfee in town and former players,
• 49:51
Speaker 6: I feel like that's kind of maybe kind of shifted
• 49:54
Speaker 6: a little bit. We've got more of a seventy five
• 49:57
Speaker 6: four twenty five against there's you've got some hard corps
• 50:00
Speaker 6: that until he wins a national championship, they're never going
• 50:03
Speaker 6: to buy into him. But I feel like he's swinging
• 50:06
Speaker 6: that momentum toward in favor of him.
• 50:11
Speaker 3: Well, okay, let's say I give you that. Okay, all right,
• 50:17
Speaker 3: Now we go three games and we're one in two.
• 50:22
Speaker 5: Oh, that's reality that could happen.
• 50:25
Speaker 3: Because a lot of times in the early part of
• 50:26
Speaker 3: the season, you have your your what we call money games, right,
• 50:29
  Speaker 3: so games that.
• 50:30
Speaker 4: You're making money and the smallest set him.
• 50:33
Speaker 3: But in most cases that the expectation is you're going
• 50:36
Speaker 3: to play a good game and get some money.
• 50:38
Speaker 5: And everybody goes home, everybody.
• 50:39
Speaker 4: Goes home happy. But you're one in, you're one in
• 50:43
  Speaker 4: two early.
• 50:47
Speaker 3: Is the fan base is the is Morgantown's fan base
• 50:55
Speaker 3: patient enough to not go crazy and or be able
• 51:02
Speaker 3: to say, Okay, these games are just they're just money games,
• 51:05
Speaker 3: and let us wait until we get into the conference.
• 51:09
Speaker 4: Are they really willing to wait that long? And or
• 51:12
Speaker 4: do they know that that's the reality of it.
• 51:16
Speaker 6: I think if it were any other coach but Rich
• 51:18
Speaker 6: Rod that I would say yes. But I think because
• 51:22
Speaker 6: of his history, I think because he's so controversial, and
• 51:26
Speaker 6: because it's so polarizing right now as far as whether
• 51:30
Speaker 6: you love him or you don't love him. That's a
• 51:33
Speaker 6: nice way to put it. There are some games that
• 51:36
Speaker 6: are just non negotiable.
• 51:37
Speaker 5: Pit is one of them. Pit is one of them.
• 51:39
Speaker 5: If he loses the Pit, the talk's gonna start right
• 51:42
Speaker 5: out of the gate.
• 51:43
Speaker 3: Well, I think that Wu's always had that Penn State. Yes,
• 51:47
Speaker 3: those kind of rival games that there's for whatever reason,
• 51:51
Speaker 3: it's supposed to win, and in a lot of cases
• 51:53
Speaker 3: they weren't really well Penn State.
• 51:56
Speaker 5: Definitely, we weren't competitors.
• 51:57
Speaker 6: Yeah, I mean that was just when we beat them
• 52:00
Speaker 6: was a big deal because that didn't happen off right.
• 52:02
Speaker 3: And so I don't understand like why the fan base
• 52:06
Speaker 3: gets upset when you lose those types of games. I mean,
• 52:08
Speaker 3: there's just there are some games that you're just not
• 52:11
Speaker 3: you know that that that.
• 52:12
Speaker 5: Kind of like Michigan and Ohio State.
• 52:14
Speaker 6: Yes, I mean, you know, reality is I mean, you
• 52:17
Speaker 6: could lose, you could you could be the best coach
• 52:18
Speaker 6: ever at Ohio State or Michigan, and if you keep
• 52:21
Speaker 6: losing to the other, you're set.
• 52:24
  Speaker 4: Yeah.
• 52:25
Speaker 6: In fact, I think Ryan is Ryan Day is that
• 52:27
Speaker 6: who the Oho State coaches. I think he was on
• 52:29
Speaker 6: the hot seat for losing to Michigan this year for
• 52:31
Speaker 6: a bit. And I think, you know, if he doesn't
• 52:34
Speaker 6: do well in the he could be in trouble.
• 52:36
Speaker 4: And and see, and I just I understand.
• 52:41
Speaker 3: I think I understand the reality of you know, Morgantown
• 52:48
  Speaker 3: fans like.
• 52:49
  Speaker 5: You know, passionate.
• 52:51
Speaker 4: Yeah, they're passionate, like they love it.
• 52:54
Speaker 3: And and every season in the offseason they're already talking
• 52:58
Speaker 3: about the next season and and the expectations that they
• 53:02
Speaker 3: have real or not. To them, it's real. But if
• 53:09
Speaker 3: you're the coach, if you're the organization, you may not
• 53:14
Speaker 3: be able. You may not be looking at that. You're like, Okay,
• 53:17
Speaker 3: we're losing this player who's going to be a critical player.
• 53:19
Speaker 3: We haven't got a player to replace him, whether that quarterback.
• 53:22
Speaker 6: Of electric transfer portal, Like.
• 53:28
Speaker 3: There's so much now that is going to make the
• 53:32
  Speaker 3: determination of whether.
• 53:33
  Speaker 2: Or not.
• 53:36
  Speaker 4: You can win.
• 53:37
Speaker 3: And again, I'm not sure that WVU is gonna no
• 53:42
Speaker 3: different than Marshall. I don't know if they're going to
• 53:44
Speaker 3: be able to go into the portal and just be
• 53:46
Speaker 3: the the dominant team in the portal.
• 53:49
Speaker 4: I just don't think that. I think there are other
• 53:51
  Speaker 4: schools that just.
• 53:52
Speaker 3: Have way more money offer to offer than than we do,
• 53:58
  Speaker 3: whether that's.
• 53:59
  Speaker 4: WVU or yeah.
• 54:00
Speaker 6: And I thought it was interesting something that I came
• 54:03
Speaker 6: across about rim Baker, and that was something that was
• 54:07
Speaker 6: very high on the list when it came to their
• 54:09
Speaker 6: interviewing of candidates for head coach. There is that he
• 54:12
Speaker 6: wanted someone entrenched in the knowledge of what West Virginia
• 54:17
Speaker 6: football is about. And it's kind of what you're saying, Carl,
• 54:19
Speaker 6: what it's about is these fans. I think West Virginia
• 54:24
Speaker 6: is special in a way. Of course it is special,
• 54:26
Speaker 6: but I think it's the w fans are special in
• 54:28
Speaker 6: a way that we don't have a pro team here
• 54:30
Speaker 6: in this state. And West Virginia, unlike Marshall, carries the
• 54:35
Speaker 6: name of the state in all of its apparel. It's
• 54:38
Speaker 6: it's uniform, it represents the state. I mean reality, that's
• 54:42
Speaker 6: people are attracted to.
• 54:43
Speaker 5: That in our state.
• 54:44
Speaker 6: They spend a lot of money, money that our state
• 54:47
Speaker 6: doesn't typically have to go enjoy football games in Morgantown.
• 54:51
Speaker 6: I mean, you think about it. It's got a big
• 54:55
Speaker 6: ticket tied to it, a big price ticket. So their
• 54:58
Speaker 6: expectations are they want to return on what they're investing
• 55:01
Speaker 6: in that school and in that team. And I think
• 55:03
Speaker 6: bren Baker knows that rich Rod understands that because he's
• 55:07
Speaker 6: already lived it, done it, yes, and he can handle
• 55:11
Speaker 6: the adversity of it a little better than somebody that
• 55:14
Speaker 6: doesn't have ties from here.
• 55:16
  Speaker 3: I think I think that's a that's a really really
• 55:18
Speaker 3: really good point and and very valid. Everybody, most I
• 55:26
Speaker 3: shouldn't say everybody, but most most fan football fans in
• 55:30
  Speaker 3: West Virginia.
• 55:32
Speaker 4: You either have your pro team is usually Pittsburgh.
• 55:35
Speaker 3: Yes, could be Cleveland, could be anybody, right that that's
• 55:41
Speaker 3: but usually it's somebody relatively close.
• 55:43
Speaker 4: Yeah, okay, at least as if you're older as you
• 55:46
Speaker 4: get older, right, all right, And so.
• 55:50
Speaker 3: Our first piece of it is all about the love
• 55:55
Speaker 3: of college football and now the split.
• 55:58
Speaker 4: The huge device in that is Marshall and wv U. R.
• 56:04
  Speaker 3: I don't know if there's a lot of people who
• 56:05
Speaker 3: are like you, who are supporting Marshall.
• 56:08
Speaker 5: It's hard and and.
• 56:09
Speaker 4: And and excited about wv U.
• 56:11
  Speaker 3: You know what I'm saying, Like, there's there's not a
• 56:13
Speaker 3: lot of people because they're all in.
• 56:15
Speaker 5: You have to have thick skin.
• 56:18
Speaker 3: And I have, you know, and and and I think
• 56:22
Speaker 3: there are I think you're either all in to wv
• 56:24
Speaker 3: U and all in right to to Marshall.
• 56:28
  Speaker 4: And unfortunately.
• 56:32
  Speaker 3: We're in a we're in a situation here now today
• 56:37
Speaker 3: and the conversation that we've had today it's, man, we
• 56:40
Speaker 3: we've got issues at both of them, and not because
• 56:44
Speaker 3: it has nothing to do really with even on the field.
• 56:48
Speaker 3: It's allf the field, and to me that's heartbreaking. It
• 56:52
Speaker 3: is because it should not be that way.
• 56:55
Speaker 6: And the reality is, as much as they want to
• 56:58
Speaker 6: say we're better than you or you're better than you,
• 57:00
Speaker 6: know that, the whole little banter that goes back and forth,
• 57:02
Speaker 6: The reality is we are in the same boat exactly
• 57:05
Speaker 6: money wise, in il wise and transfer portal wise.
• 57:09
  Speaker 4: So we're losing. We can't, we can't. We just don't
• 57:11
Speaker 4: have the kids to lose.
• 57:13
Speaker 3: No, we don't have the money to bring kids in
• 57:16
Speaker 3: to drive them back into West Virginia for this. We
• 57:22
Speaker 3: can't win with just high school kids and thinking that
• 57:25
  Speaker 3: we're gonna we're gonna.
• 57:26
Speaker 5: We don't have that.
• 57:27
Speaker 3: We're gonna rebuild the program through high school. No one's
• 57:30
Speaker 3: gonna do that. That's golf.
• 57:31
Speaker 5: Those days are golfer, right.
• 57:33
Speaker 6: The best we can hope for is what's happened we
• 57:36
Speaker 6: have West Virginia tis to the coaching positions at Marshall
• 57:40
Speaker 6: and w and I feel like that that is the
• 57:42
Speaker 6: first step and at least trying to secure teams, because
• 57:45
Speaker 6: if you have a team or have a coach come
• 57:47
Speaker 6: in that aspires to do bigger and better things, they're
• 57:53
Speaker 6: going to take the team with them. Obviously, if if
• 57:55
Speaker 6: they experience success and they're able to make that jump,
• 58:00
Speaker 6: going to take the.
• 58:00
Speaker 5: Team with them, and it's going to happen every time.
• 58:02
Speaker 3: I'll say this when to that point and talking about
• 58:07
Speaker 3: specifically talking about a coach, I can remember Sonny Randall
• 58:11
Speaker 3: coming into Marshall and and and I. I decided to
• 58:15
Speaker 3: go because he had you know, he had played in
• 58:17
Speaker 3: the pros, and I was that's what I wanted, so I,
• 58:19
Speaker 3: you know, I went there, and what I really realized
• 58:24
Speaker 3: about him was just how hard and how deep and
• 58:31
Speaker 3: that he is into football, Like how drastic he was
• 58:34
Speaker 3: about trying to build a team that wins, you know.
• 58:38
Speaker 3: And then I have Bob Pruitt as a dB coach.
• 58:40
Speaker 3: He was a fun loving kind of guy, you know,
• 58:43
Speaker 3: and and and and the staff was full of great coaches.
• 58:47
Speaker 3: But we didn't win. But what what I remember was
• 58:52
Speaker 3: was the work ethic that they made sure that you yes, yes,
• 58:57
Speaker 3: and if you didn't have.
• 58:58
Speaker 4: It, you weren't gonna make it. See, I don't know.
• 59:01
Speaker 5: Now it's all about top talent.
• 59:04
Speaker 4: Well and that too.
• 59:05
Speaker 3: And I've got to pat you on the back more
• 59:07
Speaker 3: so now that I can yell and scream, because I
• 59:10
Speaker 3: can remember, I can remember Sonny Randall like grabbing my
• 59:13
Speaker 3: face masks and cussing me.
• 59:16
Speaker 4: For that, and I can don't make money somewhere else. Yeah,
• 59:20
Speaker 4: there's no way they're going to tolerate.
• 59:22
Speaker 5: They have to be handled with kid gloves now, right.
• 59:24
Speaker 3: And I really don't know, And I'll kind of close
• 59:28
Speaker 3: on this and make you finish out. I don't know
• 59:31
Speaker 3: if the coaching, the coaching style, the buddy up coaching
• 59:37
Speaker 3: style today, I just don't think that that works. I
• 59:40
Speaker 3: still believe in the yelling, and I'm not a yelling coach.
• 59:46
  Speaker 3: I don't yell, I don't curse, I don't do any
• 59:47
  Speaker 3: of this.
• 59:48
  Speaker 6: There's a difference between yelling and critiquing. I think there's
• 59:52
Speaker 6: like just outright yelling and cussing a player for you know,
• 59:57
Speaker 6: like during a play. During play during a football game
• 59:59
Speaker 6: is one thing. But during practice, when you're trying to
• 1:00:01
Speaker 6: get them better and point out their mistakes, sometimes they
• 1:00:05
Speaker 6: listen a little better when you have a different tone
• 1:00:08
  Speaker 6: to your voice.
• 1:00:09
Speaker 3: To me, I learned to listen no matter whether it
• 1:00:11
Speaker 3: was practice or or game, because that's how it was right.
• 1:00:15
Speaker 3: I think that is part of some of it. And
• 1:00:17
Speaker 3: I know there's a ton of people are going to
• 1:00:18
