- 0:00We are constantly being inundated by forces active in
- 0:04the world. These forces may be physical,
- 0:08such as the radiation from the sun, radioactivity from the
- 0:12Earth, the power of wind, waves, gravitational influences,
- 0:17etcetera. They may also be vital forces
- 0:20that provoke sympathetic vibrations within us based on
- 0:24long habit or instinctive reaction or some trained
- 0:29response we have developed with respect to events,
- 0:32circumstances, relationships or traumas in our past experience.
- 0:39They may also be mental forces which may feed us ideas,
- 0:43opinions, speculations, imaginations that are
- 0:48circulating in the world. These forces may be introduced
- 0:52to us through the medium of specific individuals, events or
- 0:56interactions, but they may also reach us unseen and unheard and
- 1:02try to find their entrance through some form of inattention
- 1:06or through active acceptance on our part.
- 1:11The practitioner of yoga may shift his standpoint from the
- 1:14external personality to the inner psychic being, and from
- 1:18there he begins to observe the forces that want to move him to
- 1:22thought, word or deed. He may accept, modify, reject,
- 1:29or retransmit these forces, as the case may be.
- 1:34He may also reject a particular force in his mind, but still
- 1:39have vital or physical acceptance of it, thus giving
- 1:43the force an entry point to his being.
- 1:47It is a frequent observation that when one of these forces,
- 1:51particularly strong vital forces, is rejected by the
- 1:55conscious observer, it tends to try to assert its rights of
- 1:59activity through an enhanced force.
- 2:03Triorobindo also mentions the potential action of hostiles.
- 2:08We tend not to realize that we are not the only conscious
- 2:11beings in the universe, or that beings that live in different
- 2:16vibrational fields may be as conscious or more conscious than
- 2:20we are, and that they may have the ability to interact with us.
- 2:25At certain vibrational levels. We may reflect that humanity
- 2:30tends to feed off of beings that vibrate in many cases.
- 2:34At a lower vibrational level, we can appreciate that there may be
- 2:39beings who may feed off of the vital energies we vibrate, and
- 2:43in some cases they may act to provoke such vital expression
- 2:48for them to feed off of. They may then try to activate
- 2:52energies of greed, lust, anger, hatred, violent passions as
- 2:58providing them vital food they seek.
- 3:02In some cases they may feel like they possess or own us, and if
- 3:06we try to block them, they try to take retributive action to
- 3:11bring us into line. Most people do not actually
- 3:15actively experience these things and thus remain ignorant of
- 3:19these vital beings, their powers and their ability to manipulate
- 3:24human vital responses. The physical body and the vital
- 3:29envelope as well as mental development may actually provide
- 3:33some measure of protection for the individual.
- 3:37The more an individual becomes conscious, however, of the
- 3:41action of vital forces and the flow of energies from outside,
- 3:46in and around and through each of us, the more likely it is
- 3:50that he will be able to see and recognize the attempts made by
- 3:54these forces to influence and control.
- 3:59There are a number of ways the seeker can develop ironclad
- 4:02protection from attacks by these forces, primary of which is the
- 4:07shifting of the standpoint to the inner consciousness of the
- 4:10psychic being and the aspiration, devotion and
- 4:14consecration that this shift of standpoint brings to the being.
- 4:19Dedication, surrender and rejection of vital forces that
- 4:24try to invade are a result of this shift, Shiorovindo writes.
- 4:31Quote As for the waves that recur from general nature, it is
- 4:36the natural tendency of the inferior forces there to try and
- 4:40perpetuate their action in the individual, to rebuild what he
- 4:44has unbuilt of their deposits in him.
- 4:48So they return on him, often with an increased force, even
- 4:53with a stupendous violence, when they find their influence
- 4:57rejected. But they cannot last long once
- 5:00the environmental consciousness is cleared, unless the hostiles
- 5:05take a hand. Even then, these can indeed
- 5:09attack, but if the Sadiq has established his position in the
- 5:13inner self, they can only attack and retire.
