- 0:09Howie Carr, How are things? Pretty good.
- 0:12It's Groundhog Day here, you know.
- 0:14Oh. President Trump says he's going
- 0:16to blow up Iran and that he doesn't blow up Iran.
- 0:19Wouldn't you know it, that was going to be my first question to
- 0:21you, Howie Carr. So I'm glad you brought it up.
- 0:23So what's going on here? I don't know.
- 0:26It's, it's, it's almost like he doesn't want to do it, you know,
- 0:30But I don't think he's, I don't think every time he pulls back,
- 0:33I guess I think they get more, more, you know, convinced that
- 0:39nothing's going to happen. I agree.
- 0:42And I'm, I'm wondering what his play is here, right, 'cause
- 0:45generally speaking, I've believed that the Trump
- 0:48administration and Trump himself, you know, are play a
- 0:51pretty good game usually at this at this kind of diplomatic
- 0:54stuff. So usually I don't think that
- 0:56things are done without reasons. But this is like the fifth time
- 0:58he's been like, well, I'm going to blow you up tomorrow and then
- 1:00he doesn't do it. So what's the point of making
- 1:03the threat if you're not going to do it?
- 1:04I mean, you've done it once or twice, no?
- 1:06And, you know, he says because of the Arabs, I mean, are the
- 1:09Arabs now at the board of directors of the United States
- 1:11of America? You know, and, and I would think
- 1:14that since they're the ones that are getting bombed, wouldn't you
- 1:17think they would? I I thought they were the ones
- 1:19like the Saudis who were saying go in and take them out.
- 1:22Yeah, Another thing, go take them out.
- 1:24Well, the other thing too is if he's going.
- 1:27To. Yeah, if he's going to.
- 1:28I mean, he we didn't know. I didn't at least I didn't see
- 1:31anything that said, hey, I'm going to blow you up tomorrow
- 1:33before he announced that he wasn't blowing people up.
- 1:35So if indeed they asked you to not blow him up and you were
- 1:39planning to and you hadn't really told us much anything,
- 1:42I'm not sure why you volunteer after the fact.
- 1:44Well, I was going to do it, but then they asked me not to, so I
- 1:46didn't. It's it was.
- 1:48It's odd. There was going to be the big
- 1:50meeting today, right? There was going to be the big
- 1:52meeting. And you sometimes they, they,
- 1:54they, they, they learned, they think they're going to learn
- 1:57them into, into, you know, confidence that they're not
- 2:01going to get hit. And then they hit them.
- 2:02But you know, again, I mean, why would he, why would he announce
- 2:07this? And why would he say that the,
- 2:09the, and why did the, why did he help not want this?
- 2:13I mean, now they're now they, their, their oil capacity is
- 2:17running out. They're polluting everything.
- 2:19They the, the spilled oil is starting to, is starting to wash
- 2:23up on the beaches on the other side of the Gulf.
- 2:26I mean in the Arab section, you know, you think they would want
- 2:28it over with. One would think, yes, I mean,
- 2:32obviously I think the president probably also wants it over with
- 2:35too, because you know, you're, you're now, I mean, primaries in
- 2:38a lot of states are already happening or about to happen.
- 2:41So you're going to be moving on to the general election for the
- 2:43midterms pretty soon. And like I'm you're getting into
- 2:46the summer months and stuff with people driving more and the gas
- 2:48prices are already kind of crap. So you don't want that to
- 2:51persist if you want to have any hope of doing anything this
- 2:55year. So he's got to do something at
- 2:57this point to, to resolve it. I mean, unless he's just gonna,
- 3:00hey, listen, this is my policy. And if I lose over it, you know,
- 3:03I guess so be it. You know, if he's got that
- 3:06attitude, OK. But I don't know.
- 3:08I just I, I don't know what the strategy is, is my thing.
- 3:11And I guess I'm not in the administration, so I shouldn't
- 3:13know it. But I'm confused.
- 3:16That's where I'm at. Yeah, I'd, I'd prefer not to
- 3:18lose Congress. I'd prefer not to have them deal
- 3:21with some more phony baloney impeachment charges, not be able
- 3:24to get any conservative judges to it.
- 3:26I mean, that would be terrible. And to have some of these
- 3:29horrible Democrats in there as, as congressmen and senators
- 3:35would be just, it would be very bad, Very bad for the last two
- 3:38years and. To have all these redistricting
- 3:40fights and like, give yourself an opportunity.
- 3:42I mean, I know that there's like 5 states right now that are
- 3:45considering basically adding another Republican seat.
- 3:47So this is like something the Republicans clearly are winning
- 3:50and have won at this point. And so to do all that and then
- 3:53still lose would be pretty demoralizing.
- 3:56And I think there's a way of not losing.
- 3:58I mean, like if, if, if things return to something resembling
- 4:02normal and I was paying 3 bucks instead of five for my truck to
- 4:05get filled up, I think people will be OK with that, especially
- 4:08if they thought they got anything out of the out of the
- 4:10conflict. So he's got to find some way of
- 4:13resolving this in my book. Right, right.
- 4:16I mean, you know, The thing is, everybody say, oh, give him
- 4:18time, give him time. The Iranian regime is about to
- 4:21fall apart. I mean, you know, it's it's easy
- 4:24to look back in history and say, you know, oh, he he knew that
- 4:27they were going to fall apart in in another month, that there was
- 4:30going to be an uprising. And you know, the guard, they
- 4:33are really good Guard quote, they're turning it.
- 4:36But we don't know any of that. You know, it's this is, this
- 4:38isn't in, in real terms, we're not this war is going to turn.
- 4:43I mean, we won the board militarily, but now it's just
- 4:45winning it. You know, the, the settlement,
- 4:48the peace. You know, if you, if you don't
- 4:50destroy them at this point, they, they, they can claim
- 4:53victory and they then they will claim victory.
- 4:56And you know, this whole thing, you know, we're going to,
- 4:58they're going to give us a promise.
- 4:59It's not going to be for 20 years.
- 5:00I mean, who's who's buying that? Yeah.
- 5:03I mean, especially when you've seen the history of those
- 5:05promises over the years from North Korea and Iran.
- 5:07They never make good on them. So I mean, if you did that, it
- 5:11would just be to claim the moral victory.
- 5:12It's not because it's actually going to do anything.
- 5:15Right. And you're just, and you're
- 5:16consigning the the Iranian people to to a life of services
- 5:20like they have in North Korea. I mean, it's, it's, it's even
- 5:24bad for human rights if you care.
- 5:25Not that the Democrats care about human rights, obviously.
- 5:28But I mean, if you're, you know, if you say you're doing it, you
- 5:31know, to help out everybody in the world, including the
- 5:34Iranians to these walk away. I mean, I don't know, it's, it's
- 5:39unfortunate. It's it's a little depressing
- 5:41and it's not. And, you know, The thing is,
- 5:42it's not even really on the front pages either.
- 5:44I mean, everybody's just kind of like, oh, he backed down again.
- 5:47You know, it's becoming, you know, just part of the
- 5:50background noise isn't. It, yeah, it is.
- 5:52I mean, I barely, I barely covered it.
- 5:54I mean, I mentioned it in a segment or two or whatever, but
- 5:56I haven't really actually, I haven't talked about Iran all
- 5:59that much in quite some time because we're just in this weird
- 6:01holding pattern. We're just sort of sitting here
- 6:03waiting and nothing is changing. I mean, if you're going to do
- 6:06the, if you're going to do this ceasefire and sit there and give
- 6:08peace a chance and do diplomacy or whatever, I mean, that's
- 6:11fine, that's cool. But like, can we actually get
- 6:13some motion, motion or like activity?
- 6:16And if they're not going to be serious about coming to the
- 6:18table and giving a deal that you want, then I mean, resume the
- 6:21conflict or quit. Like figure something out where
- 6:24something finalizes where we're at.
- 6:27Stick sitting here stuck in the mud is not, I think, good for
- 6:30anybody, including the president.
- 6:32Right. It's certainly not good for the
- 6:33troops to be over there. I mean, all these, these people
- 6:35are just stuck there, you know, and on those ships, you know,
- 6:38that's ridiculous. It is kind of like the, the
- 6:41beginning of World War 2, You know, they, they, the Germans
- 6:43and the Russians took Poland and nothing happened for six months.
- 6:47They called it what, the fake war, the sitting war.
- 6:49And then all of a sudden they went around the Maginho line.
- 6:52I don't see that happening this time around.
- 6:55There is no Maginho line. There is no Maginho line, Howie
- 6:57Carr joining us as he does every Tuesday and we always appreciate
- 7:01him being here. Speaking of primaries, Howie
- 7:03Carr, as I was going through my news for the day, I got a
- 7:07several Thomas Massie stories kicking around.
- 7:09That guy's going to lose, right? He's he's it.
- 7:12Looks like he is, yeah. Yeah, looks like he's, he's
- 7:14basically baked his own pie here.
- 7:16I saw Vance talking about him the other day, and I thought he
- 7:18put it like, correctly. You know, I don't mind that he's
- 7:21a mavericky kind of guy and that he goes outside the party
- 7:24because the party's wrong sometimes.
- 7:26And I've even agreed with him on some of the times he's done
- 7:28that. But man, in the last, you know,
- 7:30couple years it has just been on basically everything that
- 7:33matters to us. Been over there and just out to
- 7:37lunch. So I'm done.
- 7:38I'm done with. This Epstein fantasy too.
- 7:40I mean, that's, that's the, that's the new rock Russian
- 7:42collusion hoax, You know, I mean, why, why would he go?
- 7:46Why would he go along with that? And he's getting the strange new
- 7:49respect from ROH, Khanna and all the rest of these far left nuts.
- 7:53And then the New York Times is all in his favor.
- 7:56You know, I mean, anytime, anytime you get these, these
- 7:59people on your side as a, as a Republican and they're giving
- 8:02you advice. You've got to keep the party a
- 8:04big tent and all this stuff, you know, you know, you got to vote
- 8:07against it. You got to vote for Galva and I
- 8:10think. Why do you think the strange new
- 8:12respect thing happens? Howie, I got to tell you like I
- 8:15have no interest in the love and adulation of these of these
- 8:18people. I don't think I'm going to ever
- 8:20be the subject of strange new respect because I just, I can't
- 8:24imagine myself wanting it. You know they did.
- 8:27They want to go to a cocktail party.
- 8:28So guess what? You know, I can afford my own
- 8:31dinner. I can afford my own drink.
- 8:33You know, I don't, I don't need to go.
- 8:35I don't need to go to the Georgetown cocktail circuit.
- 8:38I've met, I've met Sally Quinn. She's she's OK, but not that
- 8:42great. And she's very old now.
- 8:44You know why did? Why did they care?
- 8:47I don't know, but they do. They do for some reason.
- 8:50It's, it's, it's wild to me that it always happens, especially,
- 8:54you know, the people that are on TV commenting on everything all
- 8:56the time. They love the strange new
- 8:57respect. I mean, the long list of people
- 8:59who I used to like and respect who have just completely sold
- 9:02out to to the wrong people is very disappointing.
- 9:07But I don't know, I just feel, I feel like deep down aren't these
- 9:10people, maybe they were losers in high school or something and
- 9:13they just want to be at the cool kids table.
- 9:16Did Bill Cassidy really think that Donald Trump was trying to
- 9:20foment an insurrection and to, you know, storm the capital?
- 9:24Did he really, Did he really believe that?
- 9:25I guess you could ask the same question if Susan Collins.
- 9:28But, you know, for the sake of a Senate Majority will overlook
- 9:32that at this point, right? Yeah.
- 9:34Yeah. No, I know.
- 9:35I obviously I don't have the slightest bit of explanation for
- 9:38what you thought at that point if you're Bill Cassidy, but he's
- 9:41now obviously learning that he wasn't going to get anywhere
- 9:43with that. So he.
- 9:45Finished third. Third.
- 9:47He he couldn't even get 1/4 of the votes in his own party's
- 9:52primary after two years in the 2 terms in the Senate.
- 9:57It's amazing. Yeah.
- 9:59And he had, and he had, he had 10s of millions of dollars.
- 10:04No, that's, that's the bet. He laid in and he's he's now
- 10:08done. He's all over that last campaign
- 10:10question for you, Howie Carr. I think how Grace asked me this
- 10:13maybe last week or whatever. I'm going to ask you this.
- 10:15Is there any chance Spencer Pratt?
- 10:17Is there any chance that happens?
- 10:21I they're going, they're going after him now, right?
- 10:22Like they're like, oh, he doesn't even live here and he's
- 10:24not going to live here if he loses.
- 10:25And they're, you know, they're doing all that stuff now.
- 10:27So they're they're I to me it looks like they think he's a
- 10:30threat, but I'm not sure if I think he's really going to win.
- 10:32I don't know. I mean, I think he gets into
- 10:35the, into the runoff, obviously, but you know, he knocks out
- 10:38that, that crazy, crazy woman who wants to be the city
- 10:42councillor. But I, I, I don't know.
- 10:44I just don't see it. I mean, you know, the the
- 10:48city's, the city's so far gone. Right.
- 10:50Yeah, it's Los Angeles. Yeah.
- 10:52So that's my biggest argument is like, it's Los Angeles.
- 10:56There's only so much you can do in a place like that.
- 10:58It used to be possible that Rudy Giuliani can win in New York and
- 11:01the. Sammy Orton, Yeah.
- 11:03In LA, yeah. I'm not sure anymore it's
- 11:05possible. Reardon.
- 11:07Even Reardon. Yeah, he was, he was decent, you
- 11:10know, I mean, but yeah, I don't I everybody's gone.
- 11:15Yeah, same with Portland, isn't it?
- 11:16Oh, God, yeah, yeah. There's no, there's no hope.
- 11:19I don't know if I have any living relatives left in the
- 11:22city of Portland. I come from a giant family, but
- 11:28they're all gone. Yeah, they're not dead.
- 11:30They're just gone. Yeah.
- 11:31Now of course they're. Yeah, how we appreciate,
- 11:35appreciate you being with us as always, sadly out of time.
