Transcript
- 0:10Speaker 1: Welcome to Meat Eater Trivia, the only game show where
- 0:12Speaker 1: conservation always wins. There is a prize. Meat Eater will
- 0:16Speaker 1: donate $ 500 to the conservation organization of the winner's choosing.
- 0:20Speaker 1: I'm your host, Spencer Newarth, and today we're joined by Brody, Randall, Seth, Reva, Alyssa,
- 0:25Speaker 1: and Dane. This is a 10-round quiz show with questions
- 0:29Speaker 1: from Meat Eaters 4 Verticals, which are hunting, fishing, conservation,
- 0:32Speaker 1: and cooking. Meat Eater Trivia is brought to you by
- 0:35Speaker 1: one of my favorite beers, Bush Light. Bush Light, head
- 0:37Speaker 1: for the mountains. All right, we're starting today's episode of
- 0:40Speaker 1: the Mailbag Question. If you have a question you want
- 0:42Speaker 1: the crew to answer, then send your question with the
- 0:45Speaker 1: subject line mailbag to trivia at themeateater.com. Before the show,
- 0:51Speaker 1: our contestants today, they deemed this to be an easy one.
- 0:55Speaker 1: So here it is. Sam M. He says, I recently
- 0:58Speaker 1: married into a family that is very hunting oriented and
- 1:02Speaker 1: has land my wife has hunted for over a decade. However,
- 1:06Speaker 1: I have never killed a deer and this will be
- 1:08Speaker 1: my first time hunting bigger game. My question for the
- 1:11Speaker 1: crew is if I get a chance to harvest a
- 1:13Speaker 1: trophy buck on my father-in-law's land, should I take the
- 1:17Speaker 1: shot or is it more respectful of his generosity to
- 1:21Speaker 1: pass the and target a smaller buck or doe instead.
- 1:26Speaker 2: I think you should just talk to the father-in-law and
- 1:27Speaker 2: be like, listen, maybe he has management goals on the property.
- 1:34Speaker 2: Maybe you just be like, hey, what would you.
- 1:38Speaker 3: Be comfortable with me shooting here?
- 1:40Speaker 1: That's the right answer. What else do we have for Sam?
- 1:43Speaker 4: Yeah, I would find out the lay of the land
- 1:46Speaker 4: and the general expectations, but if he said, you know,
- 1:50Speaker 4: shoot what you see, I wouldn't hesitate.
- 1:53Speaker 1: My guess is the father-in-law is not going to be like,
- 1:55Speaker 1: listen here, Sam, we got 170 inch white tail living
- 1:58Speaker 1: out there. You cannot shoot him. I don't think that's
- 2:01Speaker 1: going to happen, Sam. Uh, but as those guys said,
- 2:04Speaker 1: you should just talk to him ahead of time and
- 2:05Speaker 1: be like, Hey, what, what are, uh, what am I
- 2:07Speaker 1: okay to shoot out here? But if, and I bet,
- 2:09Speaker 1: I bet since this is your first year, he's going
- 2:11Speaker 1: to be like, shoot, whatever makes you happy.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:13Speaker 4: If you get the, okay, if you get the, okay, don't,
- 2:16Speaker 4: play games with yourself and try to talk yourself out
- 2:18Speaker 4: of it, thinking that your father-in-law is gonna sit you
- 2:21Speaker 4: down 10 years down the road and say, you know,
- 2:22Speaker 4: I really respected how you let that big buck pass
- 2:25Speaker 4: when you first started hunting here.
- 2:27Speaker 5: And then the neighbor shot it.
- 2:29Speaker 6: Yeah, exactly. Maybe this is.
- 2:32Speaker 5: A power trip. Like, it's a test.
- 2:35Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 2:35Speaker 7: He's getting tested.
- 2:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 2:38Speaker 8: I would tell him, if it's his first deer, Like
- 2:42Speaker 8: don't go in there with overly high expectations. Like get
- 2:45Speaker 8: your first deer.
- 2:46Speaker 3: Yeah. Yeah.
- 2:47Speaker 9: Sounds very confident that he's like, that's the first thing
- 2:50Speaker 9: he's going to see.
- 2:51Speaker 7: And that's like it.
- 2:52Speaker 5: Shoot the first buck that you would be happy with.
- 2:55Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 2:56Speaker 3: That's, that's a, maybe it's like Pike County.
- 2:59Speaker 1: Maybe he lives in the golden triangle and maybe there's
- 3:02Speaker 1: 180 inch deer behind every tree. You're going to learn
- 3:05Speaker 1: a lot. Sam, just talking to your father-in-law and I
- 3:06Speaker 1: bet he's a good father-in-law and he's going to be like, Sam,
- 3:09Speaker 1: you shoot whatever makes you happy. But also, you should know, Sam,
- 3:12Speaker 1: that there's a 175-inch 6x6 out there. That's what he's
- 3:17Speaker 1: going to tell you. And then he's going to put
- 3:18Speaker 1: you in that stand to kill that one.
- 3:19Speaker 2: If he's a terrible father-in-law and you feel like this
- 3:21Speaker 2: could be the only opportunity to.
- 3:23Speaker 3: Hunt this property, I would shoot the big one.
- 3:25Speaker 1: If you're fixing to get divorced already, Sam, shoot the
- 3:30Speaker 1: whopper that lives there. Any other advice for Sam?
- 3:34Speaker 6: Have fun.
- 3:34Speaker 3: Good luck.
- 3:35Speaker 1: You got this, Sam.
- 3:36Speaker 3: Wear your safety harness.
- 3:37Speaker 1: All right, for housekeeping today, we have a very exciting
- 3:41Speaker 1: new podcast to tell you about. It is called Gunfighters.
- 3:44Speaker 1: And episode one is out right now. Reva has been
- 3:48Speaker 1: working closely on this project. Reva, tell folks about Gunfighters.
- 3:52Speaker 9: Yeah, fans of the show might be familiar with the episode,
- 3:56Speaker 9: The Gunfighters, that Steve did when he interviewed Brian Burrow,
- 3:59Speaker 9: the author.
- 3:59Speaker 7: And then now.
- 4:01Speaker 9: We created a whole podcast series around it. So... If
- 4:04Speaker 9: you're familiar with that episode or his book, The Gunfighters,
- 4:09Speaker 9: he covers a lot of stories from in there and
- 4:11Speaker 9: also stuff that's not covered in there.
- 4:13Speaker 6: Okay.
- 4:14Speaker 1: Weekly drop, I assume. Yep. On Tuesdays, right?
- 4:18Speaker 3: Yep.
- 4:19Speaker 1: Episode one is out right now if you're listening to
- 4:21Speaker 1: this on the day that trivia drops.
- 4:23Speaker 2: It is?
- 4:24Speaker 9: You can find it anywhere you listen to or watch podcasts.
- 4:28Speaker 1: Called Gunfighters.
- 4:29Speaker 10: Mm-hmm.
- 4:30Speaker 1: Here's another reason you should go listen to this. It's
- 4:32Speaker 1: going to be a great podcast. You're going to love it.
- 4:34Speaker 1: But also, if it does really well, then we get
- 4:37Speaker 1: to do more episodes. And that means that me and
- 4:39Speaker 1: Randall and Phil get to do more voice acting, which
- 4:42Speaker 1: I think we all came to realize was our actual calling.
- 4:44Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 4:45Speaker 1: Lots of Easter eggs in there. It was the most
- 4:49Speaker 1: fun day I've had in the office, I think, this year.
- 4:52Speaker 6: I wish I could remember the character that I played.
- 4:54Speaker 1: Randall was supposed to be Wild Bill. And then I said, hey. Randall,
- 4:57Speaker 1: I've got a Wild Bill tattoo. Can I pretty, pretty
- 5:00Speaker 1: please be Wild Bill?
- 5:02Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 5:02Speaker 1: I got to be Wild Bill.
- 5:03Speaker 4: I remembered that, and then I couldn't remember if you
- 5:06Speaker 4: actually got your way or not.
- 5:07Speaker 3: Yeah, I did.
- 5:08Speaker 1: Okay. So, Gunfighters, episode one.
- 5:10Speaker 4: Scratch Wild Bill off the list of possible characters I played.
- 5:15Speaker 1: Out right now. All right, the Shelby Index for today
- 5:17Speaker 1: is a four and a half, so our winner should
- 5:20Speaker 1: get nine correct answers. And with that, we're on to
- 5:22Speaker 1: the game of trivia. Play the drop, Phil.
- 5:26Speaker 6: Look, I'm... Need to know what I stand to win.
- 5:29Speaker 1: Everything.
- 5:31Speaker 6: How's that?
- 5:32Speaker 3: You stand to win everything.
- 5:40Speaker 2: Game on, suckers!
- 5:42Speaker 1: Question one. The topic is fishing, and this will be
- 5:44Speaker 1: multiple choice. Which of these world records is biggest? Meanmouth bass,
- 5:52Speaker 1: rock bass, white bass, spotted bass. You've got four bass
- 5:59Speaker 1: to choose from. Which of those world records is the biggest?
- 6:04Speaker 1: A mean mouth bass, a rock bass, a white bass,
- 6:09Speaker 1: or a spotted bass? Which is biggest? Mean mouth, rock, white, spotted.
- 6:15Speaker 1: A lot of guesses happening in here. Even Seth, who
- 6:20Speaker 1: was the quickest to answer, took him a while. Which
- 6:26Speaker 1: of these world records is biggest? Meanmouth bass, rock bass,
- 6:31Speaker 1: white bass, spotted bass. Seth, do you agree with Randall?
- 6:36Speaker 11: I do.
- 6:36Speaker 3: Okay.
- 6:37Speaker 2: Nice.
- 6:38Speaker 1: I bet that makes Randall feel nice.
- 6:39Speaker 4: That's the only person in this room to whom I
- 6:41Speaker 4: was looking for approval on that answer.
- 6:43Speaker 6: That's great.
- 6:44Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 6:45Speaker 3: It's kind of torn between two.
- 6:48Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says meanmouth. Randall, meanmouth.
- 6:54Speaker 6: Reva, meanmouth.
- 6:55Speaker 1: Dane, rock bass. Alyssa, spotted bass. Brody, mean mouth bass.
- 7:01Speaker 1: The correct answer is the mean mouth bass. A mean
- 7:05Speaker 1: mouth is a hybrid between a small mouth and large
- 7:08Speaker 1: mouth or spotted bass. The world record was caught in
- 7:12Speaker 1: Oklahoma and weighed eight and a half pounds. The world
- 7:15Speaker 1: record white bass is seven pounds. The world record rock
- 7:18Speaker 1: bass is three pounds. And the world record spotted bass
- 7:22Speaker 1: is two and a half.
- 7:23Speaker 8: One of the man-made fish that Spencer loves so much.
- 7:26Speaker 1: Man, I respect those hatchery bellies out there.
- 7:29Speaker 6: Sorry, I wasn't listening to any of that. It was
- 7:31Speaker 6: mean mouth.
- 7:32Speaker 1: It was mean mouth.
- 7:32Speaker 3: What was the world record spot?
- 7:34Speaker 1: Only two and a half. They just don't get very big.
- 7:37Speaker 3: Man, I would have thought it would be bigger than that.
- 7:39Speaker 1: Tiny little things. Question two. The topic is hunting.
- 7:42Speaker 3: That's a cool fish.
- 7:43Speaker 1: This next great question is via Luca Bedinelli. Name two
- 7:47Speaker 1: of the three states with the most black-tailed deer. Great
- 7:54Speaker 1: question here from Luca. Name two of the three states
- 7:57Speaker 1: with the most black tail deer. Alyssa staring at a
- 8:06Speaker 1: blank whiteboard. Hoping that they just appear. Seth, you got
- 8:12Speaker 1: this one right.
- 8:13Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 8:19Speaker 1: Name two of the three states with the most black tails.
- 8:25Speaker 1: Randall and Brody still riding.
- 8:27Speaker 6: It's tricky.
- 8:30Speaker 1: Randall, could you just get all three if you had to? No.
- 8:34Speaker 6: I'm not sure of my two. I'm a wreck right now.
- 8:43Speaker 6: If I had to name the top four states, I
- 8:45Speaker 6: could do that.
- 8:48Speaker 1: Looking for two of the top three with the most
- 8:52Speaker 1: black tail.
- 8:53Speaker 5: I'm uncertainly confident on this one.
- 8:55Speaker 3: Okay. Wow.
- 8:57Speaker 1: Uncertainly confident. Randall and Seth doing some comparing. Nope, Seth
- 9:02Speaker 1: has declined. Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 9:08Speaker 1: Seth says Alaska, Washington. Randall, Alaska, California. Reva, South Dakota, Wyoming. Dane, Washington, Alaska. Alyssa,
- 9:20Speaker 1: New Mexico, Washington. Brody, Alaska, California. The three states are Alaska, Oregon,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and California. I think we only had two or three players. Alaska, Oregon, California.
- 9:39Speaker 5: Washington has to be fourth.
- 9:41Speaker 1: They are fourth. Alaska has the most blacktails in the
- 9:44Speaker 1: country with an estimated population of 330,000. That's followed by
- 9:47Speaker 1: Oregon at 300,000. California at 250,000, Washington at 100,000, and
- 9:52Speaker 1: Hawaii at 1,000. A few dozen blacktails were introduced to
- 10:00Speaker 1: Hawaii for hunting in the 1960s, and their herd has
- 10:03Speaker 1: been growing ever since. So Hawaii, a surprise fifth state.
- 10:08Speaker 1: Question three, the topic is conservation. Journalists Lisa Song and
- 10:13Speaker 1: Elizabeth McGowan won this type of prestigious award in 2013.
- 10:19Speaker 1: for their expose on the most costly onshore oil spill
- 10:23Speaker 1: in U.S. history. Brody, quick to answer. Journalists Lisa Song
- 10:32Speaker 1: and Elizabeth McGowan won this type of prestigious award in
- 10:37Speaker 1: 2013 for their expose on the most costly onshore oil
- 10:43Speaker 1: spill in U.S. history. Randall, do you have this one right?
- 10:49Speaker 6: I have a prestigious award. Okay.
- 10:53Speaker 1: Brody looks like he does as well. And we have
- 10:56Speaker 1: four blank whiteboards.
- 10:57Speaker 3: In the room.
- 11:01Speaker 1: Journalist Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won this type of
- 11:04Speaker 1: prestigious award in 2013 for their expose on the most
- 11:08Speaker 1: costly onshore oil spill in U.S. history. Randall in a
- 11:15Speaker 1: different seat today.
- 11:16Speaker 6: Yes.
- 11:16Speaker 1: See how that plays out?
- 11:18Speaker 3: Yes.
- 11:18Speaker 6: I needed to change something up.
- 11:21Speaker 8: Who are you texting over there?
- 11:23Speaker 6: Nothing.
- 11:25Speaker 1: He's been texting. He's been whispering sweet nothings to Seth
- 11:27Speaker 1: over here. He's been doodling on his whiteboard. If there's
- 11:31Speaker 1: a man further removed from a trivia game, I haven't
- 11:34Speaker 1: seen him.
- 11:34Speaker 4: Honestly, other than the reaction in the room, I had
- 11:37Speaker 4: no idea what the answer to number one was. I
- 11:39Speaker 4: didn't listen to a word of it when you read
- 11:42Speaker 4: the answer.
- 11:42Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 11:44Speaker 3: Hope you lose.
- 11:47Speaker 1: I think maybe this is good. I think maybe I
- 11:49Speaker 1: just need to be more removed. Okay. Journalists Lisa Song
- 11:55Speaker 1: and Elizabeth McGowan won this type of prestigious award in
- 12:00Speaker 1: 2013 for their expose on the most costly onshore oil
- 12:05Speaker 1: spill in U.S.
- 12:07Speaker 3: History.
- 12:07Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Reva? Okay, Reva's making a quick change.
- 12:20Speaker 1: We'll give him this award if it doesn't exist.
- 12:22Speaker 6: I bet it's a good award.
- 12:24Speaker 1: Reva, are you ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers.
- 12:28Speaker 1: Seth says Environmental Impact Award. Randall says Pulitzer Prize. Reva,
- 12:34Speaker 1: Mark Twain Award. Dane says World Journalism Award, Alyssa, Emmy, Brody, Pulitzer,
- 12:42Speaker 1: the correct answer is a Pulitzer Prize.
- 12:44Speaker 9: That makes more sense.
- 12:45Speaker 1: Randall and Brody got that right. There are 15 Pulitzer
- 12:50Speaker 1: Prizes given out each year that honor outstanding journalism work.
- 12:54Speaker 1: Lisa Song and Elizabeth McGowan won theirs for reporting on
- 12:57Speaker 1: the Dilbit disaster, which they called, quote, the biggest oil
- 13:01Speaker 1: spill you've never heard of. It happened in 2010 in
- 13:05Speaker 1: Michigan's Kalamazoo River, which had millions of gallons of tar
- 13:08Speaker 1: sands oil dumped into it. The disaster was shockingly underreported
- 13:13Speaker 1: as national attention was focused on the BP Deepwater Horizon
- 13:17Speaker 1: oil spill that occurred just a few months prior. That
- 13:21Speaker 1: is how they got their Pulitzer covering the Kalamazoo River
- 13:25Speaker 1: oil spill of 2010. Again, the most costly onshore oil
- 13:30Speaker 1: spill in U.S.
- 13:31Speaker 6: History.
- 13:31Speaker 1: We're on to question four. The topic is gear. This
- 13:36Speaker 1: 10 letter word is defined as, quote, a small tool
- 13:41Speaker 1: used by hunters to track air currents. It's not a
- 13:48Speaker 1: smartphone and that's a 10 letter word, but that's not
- 13:50Speaker 1: what we're looking for. This 10 letter word is defined
- 13:54Speaker 1: as a small tool used by hunters to track air currents.
- 14:00Speaker 1: Brody and Randall have locked in their answers. Brody, do
- 14:03Speaker 1: you have this small tool?
- 14:08Speaker 9: Maybe.
- 14:09Speaker 3: Okay.
- 14:09Speaker 1: Randall, do you have this small tool?
- 14:13Speaker 6: Nope.
- 14:14Speaker 10: Okay.
- 14:15Speaker 1: Ten-letter word is defined as a small tool used by
- 14:19Speaker 1: hunters to track air currents.
- 14:22Speaker 6: We used it a lot in Austria.
- 14:25Speaker 3: Oh, okay.
- 14:26Speaker 6: Most attention I've paid to one of these small tools.
- 14:28Speaker 1: I'd love to hear more about that.
- 14:30Speaker 6: If it is what I'm thinking of, of course.
- 14:32Speaker 5: Yeah.
- 14:36Speaker 1: Seth, did you come up with the correct answer? Do
- 14:38Speaker 1: you own this tool?
- 14:40Speaker 3: If it is what I put down, yes.
- 14:44Speaker 1: Okay. I don't know if you've ever seen the highlight, Randall,
- 14:50Speaker 1: of when Tiger Woods was back in the 90s, golfing
- 14:53Speaker 1: in his caddy to see the air currents would blow
- 14:57Speaker 1: a puff of cigarette.
- 14:58Speaker 8: Smoke into the air.
- 14:59Speaker 1: He'd sit there and watch, and he'd say, Tiger, look.
- 15:01Speaker 6: Yeah, that's the old school... Al Conner's way of tracking
- 15:05Speaker 6: air currents.
- 15:06Speaker 8: Randall still does that.
- 15:08Speaker 12: Yeah.
- 15:09Speaker 1: I thought that's what you would tell us you guys
- 15:10Speaker 1: did in Austria.
- 15:12Speaker 6: No, we could have. That would have been fun. That
- 15:16Speaker 6: would have been fun.
- 15:16Speaker 1: Ten-letter word is defined as a small tool used by
- 15:19Speaker 1: hunters to track air currents. Is everybody ready? Go ahead
- 15:24Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. Seth says Windicator. Randall, Windicator. Reva, Windcluster. Windduster.
- 15:35Speaker 1: Dane says Windchecker. Alyssa, without an answer. Brody, Windicator. The
- 15:40Speaker 1: correct answer is the 10-letter Windicator.
- 15:44Speaker 9: I have never known.
- 15:45Speaker 1: It's called a Windicator. No, you got it.
- 15:47Speaker 9: I just know it as the wind checker thing.
- 15:48Speaker 3: I know.
- 15:49Speaker 5: It's like a little pocket of dust.
- 15:51Speaker 1: Windicators come in many shapes and forms. The most common
- 15:54Speaker 1: is a small squeeze bottle that's filled with an odorless
- 15:57Speaker 1: talcum powder. Some newer Windicators are electronic and produce a
- 16:01Speaker 1: puff of white smoke. And a favorite for Midwestern whitetail
- 16:05Speaker 1: hunters is a zipper filled with strands of milkweed.
- 16:08Speaker 4: The electronic ones that produce white smoke, is that just
- 16:11Speaker 4: a vape pen?
- 16:12Speaker 8: I mean, which cigarette brand works the best? Like Marlboro Reds?
- 16:16Speaker 1: That would be a good test, Randall. Future YouTube video,
- 16:20Speaker 1: Randall Test, which cigarette makes the best Windicators. It's an
- 16:23Speaker 1: American spirit.
- 16:24Speaker 4: We used a lot of windicators when we were hunting
- 16:28Speaker 4: roe deer. And the other thing that they did, which
- 16:30Speaker 4: was cool, was they had like in the blinds, they
- 16:32Speaker 4: had a string tied to a golf ball with a
- 16:35Speaker 4: feather tied halfway.
- 16:36Speaker 3: Wow.
- 16:37Speaker 4: And so the feather would pivot around with the direction.
- 16:40Speaker 3: Of the wind.
- 16:41Speaker 1: Isn't that a thing that like some long distance shooters
- 16:43Speaker 1: will do is tie a little bit of ribbon on
- 16:44Speaker 1: their scope that they can see?
- 16:47Speaker 6: No, not on your scope.
- 16:48Speaker 12: I mean, on some ranges, they'll have ribbons at different distances.
- 16:52Speaker 9: Yeah.
- 16:52Speaker 4: So you can see what the wind is doing throughout
- 16:54Speaker 4: the trajectory of the bullet.
- 16:56Speaker 6: Windicator.
- 16:57Speaker 1: Question five. The topic is cooking. This next great question
- 17:01Speaker 1: is via Carter Ullman. Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future
- 17:07Speaker 1: stepmom that trout will be served for breakfast and dinner
- 17:11Speaker 1: while on a camping trip in this 1998 film. Phil,
- 17:19Speaker 1: would you get this one right?
- 17:21Speaker 7: This might be one of the only ones I would
- 17:22Speaker 7: get right this game.
- 17:23Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future stepmom that trout will
- 17:28Speaker 1: be served.
- 17:29Speaker 8: For breakfast and dinner. I don't know why, but I
- 17:31Speaker 8: think I do.
- 17:32Speaker 1: While on a camping trip in this 1998 film.
- 17:37Speaker 7: We know what Brody's ass time is.
- 17:38Speaker 8: I have never seen a movie with Lindsay Lohan in.
- 17:41Speaker 6: It, to be clear.
- 17:42Speaker 1: Mean Girls?
- 17:44Speaker 8: I think I've got it.
- 17:45Speaker 12: I guess that's not the answer then.
- 17:49Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan. eagerly tells her future stepmom that Trout will
- 17:54Speaker 1: be served for breakfast and dinner while on a camping
- 17:57Speaker 1: trip in this 1998 film. The stepmom does not like
- 18:02Speaker 1: that answer. That's why Lindsay is so excited to say.
- 18:05Speaker 7: Oh my gosh, what is it called?
- 18:09Speaker 1: Carter, who wrote in with this question, said a lot
- 18:11Speaker 1: of girl dads will get this one right. Do you
- 18:17Speaker 1: know this one, Alyssa?
- 18:18Speaker 11: No, I do not.
- 18:19Speaker 1: Alissa, do you think, or excuse me, Reva, do you
- 18:21Speaker 1: think you know this one?
- 18:22Speaker 9: I could tell you the entire plot.
- 18:24Speaker 6: Wow.
- 18:24Speaker 1: Okay.
- 18:27Speaker 7: Can I tell you the title? Not at this moment.
- 18:30Speaker 8: You weren't here last week or whenever when Randall just
- 18:33Speaker 8: blurted out the answer in the middle of the show.
- 18:36Speaker 1: How did we handle that? Phil, did that get bleeped?
- 18:40Speaker 4: No, it didn't bleep that or the four-letter word that
- 18:43Speaker 4: I said in the immediate aftermath.
- 18:45Speaker 3: It was too funny. Come on.
- 18:48Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan. Eagerly tells her future stepmom that trout will
- 18:52Speaker 1: be served for breakfast and dinner while on a camping
- 18:54Speaker 1: trip in this 1998 film. This is question five. We
- 18:58Speaker 1: have two Mountain Dew questions of the week after this,
- 19:00Speaker 1: and then we'll get a scoreboard update from Phil the Engineer. Reba,
- 19:04Speaker 1: do you give up? I don't want to give up. Okay. Randall,
- 19:10Speaker 1: do you give up?
- 19:13Speaker 6: Does everybody else have an answer?
- 19:15Speaker 7: It's a remake.
- 19:16Speaker 1: Oh, wow.
- 19:17Speaker 3: Okay.
- 19:17Speaker 5: There's an old version?
- 19:18Speaker 1: There's some hints.
- 19:19Speaker 8: Come on, come on. Randall knows his movies.
- 19:22Speaker 1: He doesn't have an answer. Randall intimately knows Lindsay Lohan's filmography,
- 19:27Speaker 1: so you may have just given it to him.
- 19:29Speaker 9: Mm-mm.
- 19:29Speaker 6: No, he's stumped.
- 19:32Speaker 1: Mm-mm.
- 19:33Speaker 5: Okay.
- 19:33Speaker 1: Randall, I think it's time to reveal.
- 19:34Speaker 8: You know, Seth, I like that hat a lot.
- 19:38Speaker 1: Is that Casey Underwood?
- 19:39Speaker 3: That's a good one. Oh, yeah, it's Casey Underwood.
- 19:41Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says parent trap.
- 19:46Speaker 1: Randall and Reva without an answer. Dane says cheaper by
- 19:51Speaker 1: the dozen too. Alyssa says parent trap. Brody says freaky Friday.
- 19:56Speaker 1: The correct answer is The Parent Trap. Dang it!
- 20:03Speaker 3: Yes!
- 20:03Speaker 12: Well, we know what movie Brody likes. Is she a
- 20:06Speaker 12: twin in that movie?
- 20:08Speaker 3: She is a twin.
- 20:09Speaker 6: That's all I could think about.
- 20:10Speaker 1: She's her own twin.
- 20:11Speaker 12: I was thinking of Sister, Sister, but that's not the
- 20:13Speaker 12: same movie.
- 20:13Speaker 1: Wait, what was the other actress's name?
- 20:16Speaker 8: They're both played by Lindsay Lohan.
- 20:17Speaker 6: She plays both of the girls.
- 20:18Speaker 1: I know, but who's the other actress? In Freaky Friday?
- 20:21Speaker 6: No, that's Jamie Lee Curtis.
- 20:22Speaker 1: Dennis Quaid is in Parent Trap.
- 20:24Speaker 8: No, I'm saying, who are the two that you just
- 20:28Speaker 8: said in the question.
- 20:29Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan.
- 20:30Speaker 6: And the stepmom.
- 20:32Speaker 1: Lindsay Lohan eagerly tells her future stepmom, who plays her
- 20:35Speaker 1: future stepmom, Phil?
- 20:36Speaker 8: Oh, I thought you said the stepmom's name. Forget it.
- 20:40Speaker 7: Well, Natasha Richardson plays her real mom. I don't remember
- 20:42Speaker 7: who plays the stepmom.
- 20:43Speaker 1: The twin sisters, who are both played by Lindsay Lohan,
- 20:46Speaker 1: spend a camping trip pranking their dad's fiance in an
- 20:50Speaker 1: effort to get her to call off the engagement. The
- 20:53Speaker 1: twins put a lizard in her hair, replace her bug
- 20:56Speaker 1: spray with sugar water, put rocks in her backpack, and
- 20:59Speaker 1: finally drag her air mattress into the lake while she's
- 21:03Speaker 1: sleeping on it. This antic works, which gets Meredith to
- 21:06Speaker 1: give her fiance an ultimatum. It's either her or the twins.
- 21:11Speaker 1: And we're looking at the movie poster here. We are
- 21:13Speaker 1: seeing Dennis Quaid kiss his ex-wife, not his fiance on
- 21:19Speaker 1: the movie poster. So if you're wondering how it ends.
- 21:21Speaker 6: Kind of a spoiler.
- 21:23Speaker 1: I mean, a big spoiler from the movie poster.
- 21:25Speaker 9: I couldn't think of anything other than double trouble.
- 21:28Speaker 8: Didn't she become like a Hollywood bad girl?
- 21:30Speaker 6: Yeah, she had a troubled coming of age.
- 21:33Speaker 7: She kind of dug her way out of it a
- 21:34Speaker 7: little bit.
- 21:35Speaker 6: Yeah, I guess so.
- 21:37Speaker 1: Any other thoughts on Lindsay Lohan, Phil? Or the Parent Trap.
- 21:40Speaker 7: Parent Trap rules.
- 21:40Speaker 3: This movie holds up. I love it so much.
- 21:42Speaker 13: What about, have you seen the old one? Because the
- 21:44Speaker 13: old one's like from the 60s or 70s, right? This
- 21:46Speaker 13: is one of the ones where my mom was like, well,
- 21:47Speaker 13: you gotta watch the original. And I think I was just,
- 21:50Speaker 13: you know, I was like, old movie is old. But
- 21:52Speaker 13: I think it's good. But I've seen this movie a
- 21:54Speaker 13: dozen times. I think it's great.
- 21:55Speaker 1: Reba, do you have a review of the Parent Trap
- 21:58Speaker 1: for us that you couldn't come up with, but you
- 22:00Speaker 1: knew it?
- 22:01Speaker 5: A review?
- 22:02Speaker 9: I think it's fantastic.
- 22:03Speaker 1: It's, yeah, it's a classic.
- 22:05Speaker 9: It was before she went downhill.
- 22:08Speaker 2: Okay.
- 22:09Speaker 1: I mean, she's like 12 years old, so yeah.
- 22:12Speaker 6: She's back.
- 22:13Speaker 3: She's back, guys.
- 22:14Speaker 1: All right, and now it's time for our Mountain Dew
- 22:16Speaker 1: questions of the week. Thanks to Mountain Dew, you get
- 22:18Speaker 1: some bonus trivia in this week's episode. It does not
- 22:20Speaker 1: count towards your score. It's just for bragging rights. Here's
- 22:23Speaker 1: the first question. There are two of them.
- 22:25Speaker 6: It's fishing.
- 22:26Speaker 1: What type of fishing tournament has Mountain Dew sponsored? Is
- 22:29Speaker 1: it bass, noodling, white marlin, or fly fishing? What type
- 22:37Speaker 1: of fishing tournament? has Mountain Dew sponsored? Bass, noodling, white marlin,
- 22:44Speaker 1: or fly fishing? We've got another Mountain Dew question after
- 22:50Speaker 1: this and then Phil's scoreboard update. What type of tournament
- 22:56Speaker 1: has Mountain Dew sponsored? Bass, noodling, white marlin, fly fishing.
- 22:59Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says bass, bass, bass, bass. Alyssa, noodling,
- 23:06Speaker 1: Brody bass, the correct answer. All right, the Mountain Dew
- 23:10Speaker 1: Mountain Question of the Week. Mount Elbert, Mount Massive, and
- 23:14Speaker 1: Mount Harvard, the 14th, 15th, and 16th tallest mountains in America,
- 23:21Speaker 1: are located in this state. Is it Alaska, Colorado, Washington,
- 23:27Speaker 1: or Idaho? Mount Elbert, Mount Massive, and Mount Harvard, the 14th, 15th.
- 23:37Speaker 1: 16th tallest mountains in America are located in this state.
- 23:41Speaker 1: Your four choices. Alaska, Colorado, Washington, or Idaho. Is everybody ready?
- 23:51Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says Colorado. Colorado. Colorado,
- 23:56Speaker 1: the whole room says Colorado, the whole room.
- 23:59Speaker 3: Yes.
- 23:59Speaker 1: Got it right. Those were the Mountain Dew questions of
- 24:02Speaker 1: the week. Enjoy the refreshing citrus kick of Mountain Dew,
- 24:06Speaker 1: an American original tasting great since 48. Bill Taylor, scoreboard update.
- 24:13Speaker 7: Here in the middle of our show, Dane having a
- 24:18Speaker 7: rough go of it with zero points. Alyssa and Reva
- 24:20Speaker 7: have one point apiece. Seth has three and tied up
- 24:23Speaker 7: in first place. No longer with perfect games, however, tripped
- 24:25Speaker 7: up by Nancy Meyer's 1998 Klaxon, The Parent Trap. But
- 24:30Speaker 7: they're tied for first with four points.
- 24:32Speaker 1: Randall was more satisfied that Brody got that wrong than
- 24:35Speaker 1: he would have been.
- 24:36Speaker 6: I was dying.
- 24:37Speaker 1: Brody got that wrong.
- 24:37Speaker 6: I was dying on the inside.
- 24:38Speaker 1: He was thrilled.
- 24:40Speaker 3: Yeah.
- 24:41Speaker 4: I just kept going back to sister, sister, double trouble.
- 24:44Speaker 4: This thing is some rhymes.
- 24:47Speaker 6: I wasn't even close.
- 24:52Speaker 1: Question six. The topic is woodsmanship. What is the only
- 24:56Speaker 1: state with a buckeye for their state tree? A big
- 25:03Speaker 1: groan from Brody, who seems to know it.
- 25:06Speaker 6: Oh, come on.
- 25:07Speaker 1: You got the second Mountain Dew question. What is the
- 25:11Speaker 1: only state with a buckeye for their state tree? Seth,
- 25:16Speaker 1: you got this one right.
- 25:17Speaker 3: I mean, it's got to be right. Okay. It's got
- 25:19Speaker 3: to be.
- 25:21Speaker 1: What is the only state with a Buckeye for their
- 25:25Speaker 1: state tree? Melissa, do you have this one right?
- 25:30Speaker 11: I don't know.
- 25:30Speaker 3: Okay.
- 25:31Speaker 1: Reva, do you have this one right?
- 25:32Speaker 9: Well, I don't know.
- 25:35Speaker 1: Dane, do you have this one right?
- 25:37Speaker 5: If I don't, you're going to have to count them
- 25:38Speaker 5: out and do questions for me.
- 25:40Speaker 2: Okay.
- 25:40Speaker 1: Throw those into your score. Only state with a Buckeye
- 25:46Speaker 1: for their state tree.
- 25:48Speaker 6: Is everybody ready?
- 25:50Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, Ohio. Randall, Ohio. Reva, Ohio.
- 25:56Speaker 1: The whole room says Ohio. The whole room got it right.
- 25:59Speaker 6: It's Ohio.
- 26:01Speaker 1: Buckeyes are native to about half of the United States.
- 26:04Speaker 1: Their name comes from Native Americans comparing the nut to
- 26:08Speaker 1: the eye of a deer with a dark, glossy appearance
- 26:11Speaker 1: that has a light center. It's considered lucky to carry
- 26:14Speaker 1: a Buckeye in your pocket with folklore saying it'll bring
- 26:17Speaker 1: you good fortune, good wealth, and good wisdom.
- 26:21Speaker 3: You got one, Randall?
- 26:22Speaker 6: No, I don't.
- 26:23Speaker 2: Do you ever have the Buckeye that's a little dessert treat?
- 26:26Speaker 6: That's what I was going to bring up.
- 26:28Speaker 2: It's like a peanut butter fudge ball that you dip
- 26:31Speaker 2: most of the way in chocolate.
- 26:33Speaker 6: Okay.
- 26:33Speaker 1: So it's all chocolate, but with a little brown. And
- 26:37Speaker 1: you guys approve of them.
- 26:39Speaker 3: Oh, yeah. So good.
- 26:41Speaker 6: Classic dessert.
- 26:42Speaker 1: Question seven, the topic is conservation. This is our listener
- 26:46Speaker 1: question of the week, which was won by Taylor rule
- 26:49Speaker 1: for sending this great question. Taylor is going to get
- 26:51Speaker 1: a $ 150 first light gift card. If you want a
- 26:54Speaker 1: chance to win the listener question of the week, then
- 26:56Speaker 1: send your question to trivia at the meat eater.com. R3,
- 27:01Speaker 1: which refers to increased participation in the outdoors stands for blank,
- 27:07Speaker 1: blank and blank. R3, which stands for, which refers to
- 27:15Speaker 1: increased participation in the outdoors, stands for blank, blank, and blank. Alyssa,
- 27:22Speaker 1: the quickest answer. Alyssa, you got this one right?
- 27:25Speaker 8: No.
- 27:25Speaker 3: Okay.
- 27:27Speaker 12: I don't know.
- 27:28Speaker 1: Randall, do you have this one right?
- 27:30Speaker 6: I think so.
- 27:31Speaker 1: What does R3 stand for? Brody's pulled his hat way down,
- 27:39Speaker 1: his thinking cap. He's doing a lot of thinking. R3,
- 27:45Speaker 1: which refers to increased participation in the outdoors, stands for blank, blank,
- 27:51Speaker 1: and blank.
- 27:53Speaker 9: My answer can't be right. The only thing that's coming
- 27:56Speaker 9: to mind is everything else is just drowning. How close
- 28:02Speaker 9: am I, Randall?
- 28:02Speaker 1: I don't know.
- 28:04Speaker 6: Not close at all.
- 28:05Speaker 8: Perfect. They got to be in order.
- 28:08Speaker 1: Do not have to be in order.
- 28:10Speaker 6: Pretty confident. If it's wrong, it's because I got the
- 28:14Speaker 6: wrong variations of.
- 28:16Speaker 6: I've got the three.
- 28:17Speaker 1: Seth, do you have this?
- 28:20Speaker 3: I got two of them.
- 28:24Speaker 5: This is right.
- 28:27Speaker 6: We're pulling for you, Alyssa.
- 28:28Speaker 8: That third one is just a son of a gun.
- 28:30Speaker 1: Is everybody ready?
- 28:31Speaker 5: Nope.
- 28:34Speaker 1: Seth, he's got two of the three, he says. Trying
- 28:38Speaker 1: to come up with a third R word.
- 28:39Speaker 8: Do we accept synonyms?
- 28:42Speaker 1: Um, no.
- 28:47Speaker 6: That's a nice shirt, Spencer. Thank you. It's a First
- 28:52Speaker 6: Light one.
- 28:52Speaker 1: Firstlight.com.
- 28:54Speaker 6: I haven't seen it before. It was a genuine compliment.
- 28:59Speaker 3: Good job, Randall.
- 29:01Speaker 6: I'm trying to give people more compliments.
- 29:04Speaker 1: Seth, how you doing on that third R?
- 29:05Speaker 3: I'm not doing good.
- 29:07Speaker 1: Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth says, recruit, retain. Randall, recruitment, retention, reactivation. Reva, rifle, rafting,
- 29:21Speaker 1: and river boating.
- 29:22Speaker 3: That's great.
- 29:23Speaker 1: Dane says, recreation, respect, rules. Alyssa, reduce, reuse, recycle. Those
- 29:30Speaker 1: are great. Brody says, recruit, re-engage, retain. It's all the
- 29:37Speaker 1: same thing. The three R's are recruit, retention and reactivation
- 29:44Speaker 1: did uh randall got that right we're not going to
- 29:46Speaker 1: give it to you brody i'm sorry you were close
- 29:49Speaker 1: okay it's the three r's means the same means the
- 29:52Speaker 1: same thing retention reactivation not according to the scoreboard The
- 29:56Speaker 1: R3 initiative has been widely adopted by outdoor organizations from
- 30:01Speaker 1: state game agencies to gun ownership advocacy groups. Recruitment is
- 30:05Speaker 1: for attracting new users. Retention is for keeping current users.
- 30:09Speaker 1: And reactivation is for re-engaging users who have drifted away.
- 30:13Speaker 8: It's for what now?
- 30:14Speaker 1: Re-engaging users who have drifted away. Excuse me?
- 30:19Speaker 2: Oh, man.
- 30:19Speaker 8: Your answer is my answer, but my answer is not right.
- 30:23Speaker 1: I'm going to Google, Brody, see if I can find
- 30:25Speaker 1: any R3 that says re-engage versus reactivate if I can.
- 30:30Speaker 1: We'll give you that point. For now, we're on to
- 30:33Speaker 1: question eight.
- 30:34Speaker 12: Don't Google R3 re-engagement. You just have to Google R3.
- 30:38Speaker 1: Okay.
- 30:39Speaker 6: And only go through two pages of results.
- 30:42Speaker 3: Don't bother.
- 30:43Speaker 1: Just the AI page. We're on to question eight. The
- 30:48Speaker 1: topic is cooking. This brand has been called the Kleenex
- 30:52Speaker 1: and Band-Aid of slow cookers. This brand has been called
- 31:03Speaker 1: the Kleenex and Band-Aid of slow cookers.
- 31:07Speaker 2: That's what I got, too.
- 31:13Speaker 6: It's almost slow cooker season.
- 31:17Speaker 9: I know.
- 31:17Speaker 1: I made my first chili of the year. I made some.
- 31:20Speaker 6: Chili Colorado this weekend.
- 31:21Speaker 1: It's contagious.
- 31:23Speaker 5: Delicious.
- 31:24Speaker 6: I had it for lunch today, too.
- 31:26Speaker 11: What is that?
- 31:27Speaker 5: What makes it Colorado?
- 31:30Speaker 4: It's just like, Colorado means red, right? Chunks of, yeah,
- 31:33Speaker 4: it's like chunks of elk in a big red sauce.
- 31:36Speaker 4: The sauce isn't big, it's just red.
- 31:41Speaker 5: Isn't it pork?
- 31:42Speaker 6: Chunks of pork?
- 31:43Speaker 12: I think you can do it with other things, but
- 31:45Speaker 12: mine was with elk, yeah.
- 31:46Speaker 3: You gotta see this sauce, it's huge.
- 31:48Speaker 6: It's huge, it's one of the bigger sauces out there.
- 31:52Speaker 1: This brand has been called the Kleenex and Band-Aid of
- 31:57Speaker 1: slow cookers. Brody, I'm trying to help you. I can't
- 32:02Speaker 1: find re-engage.
- 32:03Speaker 5: It's okay.
- 32:04Speaker 8: Your answer is my answer, but my answer is not right.
- 32:08Speaker 1: Yes.
- 32:09Speaker 5: It's just the definition of the word.
- 32:12Speaker 6: Very close, though.
- 32:13Speaker 1: Not going to give you the point. We're at question eight.
- 32:15Speaker 1: We're going to get another scoreboard update after this. This
- 32:18Speaker 1: brand has been called the Kleenex and Band-Aid of slow cookers.
- 32:22Speaker 1: I see five confident players and Brody, who just came
- 32:25Speaker 1: up with his answer. Do you have this one right, Brody?
- 32:27Speaker 3: I don't know. 50-50.
- 32:28Speaker 1: Revo, are you ready? Dane, are you ready? Go ahead
- 32:31Speaker 1: and reveal your answers. We've got the whole room saying Crock-Pot.
- 32:36Speaker 1: The whole room got it right. It's Crock-Pot.
- 32:39Speaker 6: Since the pot was a real.
- 32:41Speaker 1: Despite Crock-Pot being a brand, it's often interchangeably used with
- 32:46Speaker 1: slow cooker, similar to Kleenex and tissue or Band-Aid and bandage.
- 32:51Speaker 1: Although Crock-Pot didn't create the slow cooker, they did popularize
- 32:55Speaker 1: it after acquiring the inventor's company in 1970.
- 33:00Speaker 6: No, I didn't mean to do that. I thought I
- 33:01Speaker 6: had the cap on my marker.
- 33:04Speaker 1: Did you just lick a little marker?
- 33:05Speaker 7: He just went like this.
- 33:07Speaker 1: I didn't get that on camera.
- 33:09Speaker 8: Don't worry about it.
- 33:10Speaker 12: Phil, you had one job.
- 33:13Speaker 7: I was scorekeeping. I've got like four jobs.
- 33:15Speaker 6: You've overlooked my.
- 33:16Speaker 12: Physical comedy, which is also part of my.
- 33:20Speaker 1: Phil's sixth job is keeping score. We're going to get
- 33:23Speaker 1: a scoreboard update right now.
- 33:26Speaker 7: Dane's got himself two points now. Alyssa and Riva have
- 33:29Speaker 7: climbed up to three. Then in third place is Seth
- 33:33Speaker 7: Morris with five. In second place is Brody Henderson with six.
- 33:37Speaker 7: And Williams is in first place with seven points.
- 33:40Speaker 3: Alyssa wants to dispute.
- 33:42Speaker 7: No one's ever correctly, successfully disputed, but you can try.
- 33:47Speaker 1: She got Crockpot. She got Ohio. Parent Trap.
- 33:53Speaker 3: What else?
- 33:55Speaker 6: Oh, I had one before the break.
- 33:56Speaker 8: Sorry, Phil, I'm wrong.
- 33:58Speaker 7: One more for Phil.
- 33:59Speaker 1: All right, Phil's today's goal is undefeated.
- 34:04Speaker 9: I thought it was two before the first cut.
- 34:06Speaker 6: Like a boss.
- 34:08Speaker 2: Like a boss, Phil.
- 34:09Speaker 1: Question nine, the topic is fishing. This piece of gear
- 34:13Speaker 1: is defined as, quote, a floating plastic or foam device
- 34:18Speaker 1: that clips to your fishing line to pull your bait
- 34:21Speaker 1: or lure outward and and away from your boat while trolling.
- 34:26Speaker 1: It's not a bobber. Don't say it's a bobber. This
- 34:30Speaker 1: piece of gear is defined as a floating plastic or
- 34:34Speaker 1: foam device that clips to your fishing line to pull
- 34:38Speaker 1: your bait or lure outward and away from your boat
- 34:41Speaker 1: while trolling. Seth, do you own this piece of gear?
- 34:46Speaker 2: No.
- 34:47Speaker 1: Brody, you definitely own this piece of gear.
- 34:49Speaker 3: I do.
- 34:50Speaker 1: Okay.
- 34:51Speaker 8: Randall?
- 34:52Speaker 1: I'm guessing it's a no.
- 34:53Speaker 6: I don't even know that I have this right. Okay.
- 34:56Speaker 6: I feel like I'm in the neighborhood, but I can't
- 35:00Speaker 6: guarantee it.
- 35:01Speaker 1: A piece of gear is defined as a floating plastic
- 35:04Speaker 1: or foam device that clips to your fishing line to
- 35:07Speaker 1: pull your bait or lure outward and away from your
- 35:09Speaker 1: boat while trolling.
- 35:10Speaker 6: I want to sit with my uncertainty for a while, Seth.
- 35:13Speaker 3: Okay.
- 35:14Speaker 1: Seth, I'm surprised you don't have just one of these
- 35:16Speaker 1: in your boat.
- 35:17Speaker 3: I did, but I gave them all to Chester.
- 35:19Speaker 1: Oh, okay. Good for you.
- 35:21Speaker 6: He's a good guy.
- 35:23Speaker 3: R.I.P.
- 35:25Speaker 12: I just saw him.
- 35:26Speaker 3: Oh, that's good. I just fished with him for a week.
- 35:28Speaker 1: To be clear, he's alive.
- 35:29Speaker 8: Yeah.
- 35:30Speaker 1: He just doesn't work immediately anymore.
- 35:31Speaker 2: Chester and I had the best week of smallmouth fishing
- 35:34Speaker 2: we've ever experienced.
- 35:35Speaker 3: In our life. Tell me more.
- 35:36Speaker 12: Bad walleye fishing.
- 35:37Speaker 1: What state?
- 35:38Speaker 3: Montana. Okay. That's it.
- 35:40Speaker 1: Uh-huh. Give me some numbers. Size, quantity.
- 35:45Speaker 2: Well, our best five-fish bag was just over 23 pounds.
- 35:50Speaker 10: Damn.
- 35:53Speaker 3: But we just found a school of, like, over 100 smallies.
- 35:57Speaker 1: And they were hungry right now.
- 35:58Speaker 3: Yeah, we caught so many. It was very fun.
- 36:02Speaker 6: That was during the work week.
- 36:03Speaker 3: No giants, but 23 pounds isn't bad.
- 36:06Speaker 6: That was between Monday and Friday.
- 36:07Speaker 3: That was, yeah. It was a work trip.
- 36:09Speaker 6: That's nice.
- 36:11Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Set
- 36:16Speaker 1: says planer board. Randall planer board, Riva floater, Dane Bowie,
- 36:24Speaker 1: Alyssa without an answer, Brody planer board. They got it.
- 36:27Speaker 1: The correct answer is a planer board. Planer boards are
- 36:31Speaker 1: used by anglers targeting walleye, salmon, trout, stripers, and crappie.
- 36:36Speaker 1: Their purpose is to allow trolling anglers to fish with
- 36:39Speaker 1: extra lines. Sometimes this is done to maximize the amount
- 36:43Speaker 1: of rods one vessel can use, while other times Anglers
- 36:46Speaker 1: want to fish multiple depths or get their lure away
- 36:49Speaker 1: from the boat if in shallow water there is a
- 36:52Speaker 1: rudimentary drawing of what a planer board would do for you.
- 36:55Speaker 2: Oh, that's some frustrating fishing when you get all that
- 36:58Speaker 2: shit tangled up.
- 36:59Speaker 3: It is.
- 37:00Speaker 10: It is.
- 37:01Speaker 1: And then especially if you like go through a snag
- 37:03Speaker 1: or something and you got multiple.
- 37:04Speaker 7: I was going to ask, is something like that ever
- 37:06Speaker 7: worth it, Seth?
- 37:07Speaker 8: Not for me, but people love to do it. Then you, like, hook, like,
- 37:14Speaker 8: a 14-incher on that damn thing, and the board weighs
- 37:17Speaker 8: more than the fish does.
- 37:18Speaker 1: All right, here's a correct answer review so far. One
- 37:21Speaker 1: was meanmouth bass. Two, Alaska, California, Oregon. Three, Pulitzer Prize. Four, Windicator. Five,
- 37:30Speaker 1: The Parent Trap. Six, Ohio. Seven, recruitment, retention, reactivation. Eight, crockpot. Nine,
- 37:38Speaker 1: planar board. Phil, scoreboard update.
- 37:40Speaker 7: It's down to Randall and Brody. We have eight and
- 37:43Speaker 7: seven points, respectively.
- 37:46Speaker 1: Question 10. The topic is hunting. This next great question
- 37:49Speaker 1: is from Chris Medveds. In the U.S. Fish and Wildlife
- 37:54Speaker 1: Service Migratory Bird Survey, code M-A-L-L stands for mallard, W-O-D-U
- 38:03Speaker 1: stands for wood duck, and N-O-P-I stands for blank blank.
- 38:13Speaker 1: Brody has it, but Randall is also writing an answer.
- 38:16Speaker 1: If Randall can get this one right, he will secure
- 38:19Speaker 1: the victory. But if he gets it wrong and Brody
- 38:21Speaker 1: gets it right, then we'll go to overtime. In the U.S.
- 38:26Speaker 1: Fish and Wildlife Service Migratory Bird Survey, code M-A-L-L stands
- 38:32Speaker 1: for mallard, W-O-D-U stands for wood duck, and N-O-P-I stands
- 38:38Speaker 1: for blank blank. randall do you have two words written
- 38:43Speaker 1: down i do okay do you think.
- 38:47Speaker 4: They're right i don't know it's about as good of
- 38:50Speaker 4: guess as i have but then seth made weird eye
- 38:52Speaker 4: contact i did hear kind of a smirk i noticed
- 38:57Speaker 4: how we i noticed how we ended with fishing and
- 38:59Speaker 4: then birds.
- 39:01Speaker 1: Oh yeah we're out to get you after that ohio
- 39:05Speaker 1: buckeye question yeah N-O-P-I stands for blank blank.
- 39:14Speaker 8: Quit pretending it's hard.
- 39:17Speaker 12: That's got me all twisted up.
- 39:20Speaker 8: Follow the pattern.
- 39:26Speaker 5: Does everyone have this?
- 39:28Speaker 9: I have an answer.
- 39:30Speaker 3: Randall has one of those too.
- 39:33Speaker 1: Is everybody ready? Go ahead and reveal your answers. Seth
- 39:40Speaker 1: says Northern Pintail. Randall says Northern Pintail. Reva says Northern Pigeon. Dane,
- 39:48Speaker 1: northern pintail. Alyssa without an answer. Brody, northern pintail. The
- 39:52Speaker 1: correct answer is the northern pintail.
- 39:55Speaker 3: I was just making you sweat.
- 39:56Speaker 1: Yeah, well done.
- 39:57Speaker 3: You did.
- 39:58Speaker 1: Each species in the survey is given a four-letter code.
- 40:01Speaker 1: Most of them are obvious, but a few require some explanation.
- 40:05Speaker 1: For example, Canada goose is T-C-A-G, and light goose is T-L-T-G.
- 40:12Speaker 1: That T at the beginning represents total Canada geese or
- 40:15Speaker 1: total light geese. and doesn't split them into subspecies. All right,
- 40:20Speaker 1: Randall is today's winner with nine points. He got the
- 40:22Speaker 1: Shelby Index right on the nose. What are you gonna
- 40:24Speaker 1: do with that $ 500 donation?
- 40:27Speaker 3: He's checking his DMs.
- 40:31Speaker 1: Didn't consider he could be the winner.
- 40:34Speaker 4: I wanna say the organization is called the mobile bay
- 40:38Speaker 4: keepers i'll find the exact name of it.
- 40:40Speaker 10: At some point down the road to do with a
- 40:42Speaker 10: jubilee yeah because one of my favorite questions that you've
- 40:45Speaker 10: asked spencer had to do with jubilees and i didn't
- 40:48Speaker 10: know what a jubilee was and they just had a
- 40:50Speaker 10: jubilee they did.
- 40:51Speaker 4: Uh i got people in mobile and they they let
- 40:55Speaker 4: me know they sent me some sent me some photos
- 40:58Speaker 4: looked like a wild time and I can't stop thinking
- 41:00Speaker 4: about it.
- 41:00Speaker 6: So let's send this money to, I believe it's the Baykeepers.
- 41:03Speaker 3: You're right.
- 41:04Speaker 1: It's the Mobile Baykeepers protecting Alabama's coastal waters. So now
- 41:09Speaker 1: Randall can catch an invite to go join the Jubilee.
- 41:12Speaker 6: Yeah, I just got to get that private aviation.
- 41:14Speaker 4: The timing of it, commercial air traffic won't work.
- 41:19Speaker 1: Well done, Randall.
- 41:20Speaker 3: Got to be honest.
- 41:21Speaker 1: Join us next week for more meat eater trivia, the
- 41:23Speaker 1: only game show where conservation always wins.
- 41:26Speaker 3: Thanks, Spencer. Thanks, Spencer.
- 41:28Speaker 11: Yeah, Spencer from South Dakota, he's the host. Using those smooth,
- 41:32Speaker 11: mellow tones, he lays them questions down. And he likes
- 41:42Speaker 11: taking those two- and three-year-old bucks. And he's an avid
- 41:47Speaker 11: amateur rock hound.
