Avian Flu Hits Utah Dairy Farms
Avian flu is spreading fast in Utah’s dairy farms, with Box Elder County now under strict surveillance. Every dairy operation must test weekly, paid for by the federal government. Positive farms get quarantined—lactating cows can’t leave unless headed to slaughter. This strain, H5N1, first hit Texas in March 2024 and spread to 19 states, including Utah.
