- 0:00Speaker 1: Acting in a certain way. Thought is the creative power,
- 0:04Speaker 1: or the impelling force, which causes the creative power to act.
- 0:08Speaker 1: Thinking in a certain way will bring riches to you.
- 0:10Speaker 1: But you must not rely upon thought alone, paying no
- 0:13Speaker 1: attention to personal action. That is the rock upon which
- 0:17Speaker 1: many otherwise scientific metaphysical thinkers meet shipwreck, the failure to
- 0:22Speaker 1: connect thought with personal action. We have not yet reached
- 0:26Speaker 1: the state of development. Even supposing such a stage to
- 0:29Speaker 1: be possible, in which man can create directly from formers substance,
- 0:33Speaker 1: without nature's processes or the work of human hands, man
- 0:37Speaker 1: must not only think, but his personal action must supplement
- 0:41Speaker 1: his thought by thought. You can cause the gold in
- 0:44Speaker 1: the hearts of the mountains to be impelled toward you,
- 0:47Speaker 1: but it will not mine itself, refine itself, coin itself
- 0:51Speaker 1: into double eagles, and come rolling along the roads seeking
- 0:55Speaker 1: its way into your pocket. Under the impelling power of
- 0:58Speaker 1: the supreme spirit, man's affairs will be so ordered that
- 1:02Speaker 1: someone will be led to mind the gold for you.
- 1:05Speaker 1: Other men's business transactions will be so directed that the
- 1:08Speaker 1: gold will be brought toward you. And you must so
- 1:11Speaker 1: arrange your own business affairs that you may be able
- 1:14Speaker 1: to receive it when it comes to you. Your thought
- 1:17Speaker 1: makes all things animate and inanimate work to bring you
- 1:21Speaker 1: what you want. But your personal activity must be such
- 1:24Speaker 1: that you can rightly receive what you want when it
- 1:26Speaker 1: reaches you. You are not to take it as charity,
- 1:30Speaker 1: nor to steal it. You must give every man more
- 1:33Speaker 1: in news value than he gives you in cash value.
- 1:36Speaker 1: The scientific use of thought consists in forming a clear
- 1:39Speaker 1: and distinct mental image of what you want, in holding
- 1:43Speaker 1: fast to the purpose to get what you want, and
- 1:45Speaker 1: in realizing with grateful faith that you do get what
- 1:48Speaker 1: you want. Do not try to project your thought in
- 1:52Speaker 1: any mysterious or occult way with the idea of having
- 1:55Speaker 1: it go out and do things for you. That is
- 1:58Speaker 1: wasted effort and will weaken your to think with sanity.
- 2:02Speaker 1: The action of thought in getting rich is fully explained
- 2:05Speaker 1: in the preceding chapters. Your faith and purpose positively impress
- 2:09Speaker 1: your vision upon formers substance which has the same desire
- 2:12Speaker 1: for more life that you have, And this vision received
- 2:15Speaker 1: from you, sets all the creative forces at work in
- 2:18Speaker 1: and through their regular channels of action, but direct it
- 2:21Speaker 1: toward you. It is not your part to guide or
- 2:24Speaker 1: supervise the creative process. All you have to do with
- 2:27Speaker 1: that is to retain your vision, to stick to your purpose,
- 2:30Speaker 1: and maintain your faith and gratitude. But you must act
- 2:34Speaker 1: in a certain way so that you can appropriate what
- 2:37Speaker 1: is yours when it comes to you, so that you
- 2:39Speaker 1: can meet the things you have in your picture and
- 2:42Speaker 1: put them in their proper places as they arrive. You
- 2:45Speaker 1: can really see the truth of this. When things reach you,
- 2:48Speaker 1: they will be in the hands of other men who
- 2:51Speaker 1: will ask an equivalent for them, And you can only
- 2:54Speaker 1: get what is yours by giving the other man what
- 2:56Speaker 1: is his. Your pocket book is not going to be
- 2:59Speaker 1: trans formed into afford to not asperse, which shall be
- 3:02Speaker 1: always full of money without effort on your part. This
- 3:05Speaker 1: is a crucial point in the science of getting rich
- 3:08Speaker 1: right here, when thought and personal action must be combined.
- 3:12Speaker 1: There are very many people who consciously or unconsciously set
- 3:15Speaker 1: the creative forces in action by the strength and persistence
- 3:19Speaker 1: of their desires, but who remain poor because they do
- 3:22Speaker 1: not provide for the reception of the thing they want
- 3:24Speaker 1: when it comes by thought. The thing you want is
- 3:28Speaker 1: brought to you by action, you receive it. Whatever your
- 3:32Speaker 1: action is to be it is evident that you must
- 3:35Speaker 1: act now. You cannot act in the past, and it
- 3:38Speaker 1: is essential to the clearness of your mental vision that
- 3:41Speaker 1: you dismiss the past from your mind. You cannot act
- 3:44Speaker 1: in the future, for the future is not here yet,
- 3:47Speaker 1: and you cannot tell how you will want to act
- 3:49Speaker 1: in any future contingency until that contingency has arrived. Because
- 3:54Speaker 1: you are not in the right business or the right
- 3:56Speaker 1: environment now. Do not think that you must postpone action
- 3:59Speaker 1: until you get into the right business or environment. And
- 4:03Speaker 1: do not spend time in the present taking thought as
- 4:05Speaker 1: to the best course impossible future emergencies. Have faith in
- 4:09Speaker 1: your ability to meet any emergency when it arrives. If
- 4:13Speaker 1: you act in the present with your mind on the future,
- 4:16Speaker 1: your present action will be with a divided mind and
- 4:19Speaker 1: will not be effective. Put your whole mind into present action.
- 4:24Speaker 1: Do not give your creative impulse to original substance and
- 4:27Speaker 1: then sit down and wait for results. If you do,
- 4:31Speaker 1: you will never get them. Act now. There is never
- 4:34Speaker 1: any time but now, and there never will be any
- 4:37Speaker 1: time but now. If you are ever to begin to
- 4:40Speaker 1: make ready for the reception of what you want, you
- 4:42Speaker 1: must begin now, and your action, whatever it is must
- 4:46Speaker 1: most likely be in your present business or employment, and
- 4:49Speaker 1: must be upon the persons and things in your present environment.
- 4:53Speaker 1: You cannot act where you are not You cannot act
- 4:56Speaker 1: where you have been, and you cannot act where you
- 4:59Speaker 1: are going to be. You can act only where you are.
- 5:03Speaker 1: Do not bother as to whether yesterday's work was well
- 5:05Speaker 1: done or ill done. Do to day's work well. Do
- 5:09Speaker 1: not try to do to morrow's work now. There will
- 5:12Speaker 1: be plenty of time to do that when you get
- 5:14Speaker 1: to it. Do not try by accult or mystical means
- 5:17Speaker 1: to act on people or things that are out of
- 5:20Speaker 1: your reach. Do not wait for a change of environment
- 5:23Speaker 1: before you act. Get a change of environment by action.
- 5:27Speaker 1: You can so act upon the environment in which you
- 5:30Speaker 1: are now as to cause yourself to be transferred to
- 5:32Speaker 1: a better environment. Hold with faith and purpose the vision
- 5:36Speaker 1: of yourself in the better environment. But act upon your
- 5:39Speaker 1: present environment with all your heart, and with all your strength,
- 5:43Speaker 1: and with all your mind. Do not spend any time
- 5:46Speaker 1: in day dreaming or castle building. Hold to the one
- 5:49Speaker 1: vision of what you want and act now. Do not
- 5:53Speaker 1: cast about seeking some new thing to do, or some strange,
- 5:56Speaker 1: unusual or remarkable action to perform as a first step
- 5:59Speaker 1: to getting rich. It is probable that your actions, at
- 6:03Speaker 1: least for some time to come, will be those you
- 6:05Speaker 1: have been performing for some time past. But you are
- 6:08Speaker 1: to begin now to perform these actions in a certain way,
- 6:12Speaker 1: which will surely make you rich. If you are engaged
- 6:15Speaker 1: in some business and feel that it is not the
- 6:18Speaker 1: right one for you, do not wait until you get
- 6:20Speaker 1: into the right business before you begin to act. Do
- 6:23Speaker 1: not feel discouraged or sit down and lament because you
- 6:26Speaker 1: are misplaced. No man was ever so misplaced but that
- 6:30Speaker 1: he could not find the right place. And no man
- 6:33Speaker 1: ever became so involved in the wrong business, but that
- 6:35Speaker 1: he could get into the right business. Hold the vision
- 6:39Speaker 1: of yourself in the right business, with the purpose to
- 6:41Speaker 1: get into it, and the faith that you will get
- 6:44Speaker 1: into it and are getting into it. But act in
- 6:47Speaker 1: your present business. Use your present business as the means
- 6:51Speaker 1: of getting a better one, and use your present environment
- 6:54Speaker 1: as the means of getting into a better one. Your
- 6:57Speaker 1: vision of the right business, if held with faith them perpose,
- 7:00Speaker 1: will cause the Supreme to move the right business toward you.
- 7:03Speaker 1: And your action, if be formed in a certain way,
- 7:06Speaker 1: will cause you to move toward the business. If you
- 7:09Speaker 1: are an employee or wage earner and feel that you
- 7:13Speaker 1: must change places in order to get what you want,
- 7:15Speaker 1: do not project your thought into space and rely upon
- 7:18Speaker 1: it to get you another job. It will probably fail
- 7:21Speaker 1: to do so. Hold a vision of yourself in the
- 7:24Speaker 1: job you want, while you act with faith and purpose
- 7:27Speaker 1: on the job you have, and you will certainly get
- 7:30Speaker 1: the job you want. Your vision and faith will set
- 7:33Speaker 1: the creative force in motion to bring it toward you,
- 7:36Speaker 1: and your action will cause the forces in your own
- 7:38Speaker 1: environment to move you toward the place you want. In
- 7:41Speaker 1: closing this chapter, we will add another statement to our syllabus.
- 7:46Speaker 1: There is a thinking stuff from it all things are made,
- 7:49Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and feels
- 7:53Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
- 7:57Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
- 8:01Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
- 8:04Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks
- 8:07Speaker 1: about to be created. In order to do this, man
- 8:11Speaker 1: must pass from the competitive to the creative mind. He
- 8:14Speaker 1: must form a clear mental picture of the thing he
- 8:16Speaker 1: wants and hold this picture in his thoughts with the
- 8:19Speaker 1: fixed purpose to get what he wants, and the amavoring
- 8:22Speaker 1: faith that he does get what he wants, closing his
- 8:25Speaker 1: mind to all that may tend to shake his purpose,
- 8:28Speaker 1: dim his vision, or quench his faith, that he may
- 8:31Speaker 1: receive what he wants when it comes. Man must act
- 8:34Speaker 1: now upon the people and things in his present environment
- 8:38Speaker 1: efficient action. He must use your thought as directed in
- 8:42Speaker 1: previous chapters and begin to do what you can do
- 8:45Speaker 1: where you are. And you must do all that you
- 8:47Speaker 1: can do where you are. You can advance only by
- 8:50Speaker 1: being larger than your present place. And no man is
- 8:53Speaker 1: larger than his present place who leaves undone any of
- 8:56Speaker 1: the work pertaining to that place. The world is advanced
- 9:00Speaker 1: only by those who more than feel their present places.
- 9:04Speaker 1: If no man quiet filled his present place, you can
- 9:07Speaker 1: see that there must be a going backward in everything.
- 9:10Speaker 1: Those who do not quiet feel their places or dead
- 9:13Speaker 1: with upon society, government, commerce, and industry, they must be
- 9:17Speaker 1: carried along by others at a great expense. The progress
- 9:21Speaker 1: of the world is retarded only by those who do
- 9:23Speaker 1: not feel the places they are holding. They belong to
- 9:26Speaker 1: a former age and a lower stage or plane of life,
- 9:30Speaker 1: and their tendency is toward the generation. No society could
- 9:33Speaker 1: advance if every man was smaller than his place. Social
- 9:37Speaker 1: evolution is guided by the law of physical and mental evolution.
- 9:41Speaker 1: In the animal world, evolution is caused by excess of life.
- 9:45Speaker 1: When an organism has more life than can be expressed
- 9:48Speaker 1: in the functions of its own plane, it develops the
- 9:51Speaker 1: organs of a higher plane, and a new species is originated.
- 9:55Speaker 1: There never would have been new species had there not
- 9:58Speaker 1: been organisms which more than feel their places. The law
- 10:02Speaker 1: is exactly the same for you. You are getting rich
- 10:05Speaker 1: depends upon your applying this principle to your own affairs.
- 10:09Speaker 1: Every day is either a successful day or a day
- 10:11Speaker 1: of failure, and it is the successful days which get
- 10:14Speaker 1: you what you want. If every day is a failure,
- 10:17Speaker 1: you can never get rich, while if every day is
- 10:20Speaker 1: a success, you cannot fail to get rich. If there
- 10:24Speaker 1: is something that may be done to day and you
- 10:26Speaker 1: do not do it, you have failed in so far
- 10:28Speaker 1: as that thing is concerned, and the consequences may be
- 10:32Speaker 1: more disastrous than you can imagine. You cannot foresee the
- 10:36Speaker 1: results of even the most trivial act. You do not
- 10:39Speaker 1: know the workings of all the forces that have been
- 10:41Speaker 1: set moving in your behalf. Much may be depending on
- 10:44Speaker 1: your doing some simple act. It may be the very
- 10:47Speaker 1: thing which is to open the door of opportunity to
- 10:49Speaker 1: weary great possibilities. You can never know all the combinations
- 10:53Speaker 1: which supreme intelligence is making for you in the world
- 10:56Speaker 1: of things, and of things and of human affairs. You
- 10:59Speaker 1: are neglect or failure to do some small things may
- 11:02Speaker 1: cause a long delay in getting what you want do
- 11:06Speaker 1: every day all that can be done that day. There is, however,
- 11:10Speaker 1: a limitation or qualification of the above, that you must
- 11:13Speaker 1: take into account. You are not to overwork, nor to
- 11:17Speaker 1: rush blindly into your business in the effort to do
- 11:19Speaker 1: the greatest possible number of things in the shortest possible time.
- 11:24Speaker 1: You are not to try to do tomorrow's work to day,
- 11:26Speaker 1: nor to do a week's work in a day. It
- 11:29Speaker 1: is really not the number of things you do, but
- 11:31Speaker 1: the efficiency of each separate action that counts. Every act
- 11:35Speaker 1: is in itself either a success or a failure. Every
- 11:39Speaker 1: act is in itself either effective or inefficient. Every inefficient
- 11:44Speaker 1: act is a failure. And if you spend your life
- 11:47Speaker 1: in doing inefficient acts, your whole life will be a failure.
- 11:51Speaker 1: The more things you do. The worse is for you
- 11:54Speaker 1: if all your acts are inefficient ones. On the other hand,
- 11:58Speaker 1: every efficient act is a success in itself, and if
- 12:01Speaker 1: every act of your life is an efficient one, your
- 12:04Speaker 1: whole life must be a success. The cause of failure
- 12:08Speaker 1: is doing too many things in an inefficient manner and
- 12:11Speaker 1: not doing enough things in an efficient manner. You will
- 12:14Speaker 1: see that it is a self evident proposition that if
- 12:17Speaker 1: you do not do any inefficient acts, and if you
- 12:20Speaker 1: do a sufficient number of efficient acts, you will become rich.
- 12:25Speaker 1: If now it is possible for you to make each
- 12:27Speaker 1: act an efficient one, you see again that the getting
- 12:30Speaker 1: of riches is reduced to an exact science, like mathematics.
- 12:35Speaker 1: The matter turns then on the questions whether you can
- 12:38Speaker 1: make each separate act success in itself, and this you
- 12:41Speaker 1: can certainly do. You can make each act a success
- 12:45Speaker 1: because all power is working with you, and all power
- 12:48Speaker 1: cannot fail. Power is at your service, and to make
- 12:52Speaker 1: each act efficient you have only to put power into it.
- 12:56Speaker 1: Every action is either strong or weak, and when everyone
- 12:59Speaker 1: is strong, you are acting in a certain way which
- 13:02Speaker 1: will make you rich. Every act can be made strong
- 13:05Speaker 1: and efficient by holding your vision while you are doing it.
- 13:08Speaker 1: And putting the whole power of your faith and purpose
- 13:11Speaker 1: into it. It is at this point that people fail
- 13:14Speaker 1: to separate mental power from personal action. They use the
- 13:18Speaker 1: power of mind in one place and at one time,
- 13:21Speaker 1: and they act in another place and at another time.
- 13:24Speaker 1: So their acts are not successful in themselves. Too many
- 13:27Speaker 1: of them are inefficient. But if all power goes into
- 13:31Speaker 1: every act, no matter how commonplace, every act will be
- 13:34Speaker 1: a success in itself. And as in the nature of things,
- 13:37Speaker 1: every success opens the way to other successes. Your progress
- 13:41Speaker 1: toward what you want and the progress of what you
- 13:43Speaker 1: want toward you will become increasingly rapid. Remember that successful
- 13:48Speaker 1: action is cumulative in its results, since the desire for
- 13:52Speaker 1: more life is inherent in all things. When a man
- 13:55Speaker 1: begins to move toward larger life, more things attach themselves
- 13:59Speaker 1: to him, and the influence of his desire is multiplied.
- 14:03Speaker 1: Do every day all that you can do that day,
- 14:06Speaker 1: and do each act in an efficient manner. In saying
- 14:09Speaker 1: that you must hold your vision while you are doing
- 14:11Speaker 1: each act, however trivial or commonplace, I do not mean
- 14:15Speaker 1: to say that it is necessary at all times to
- 14:18Speaker 1: see the vision distinctly to all its smallest details. It
- 14:21Speaker 1: should be the work of your leisure hours to use
- 14:24Speaker 1: your imagination on the details of your vision, and to
- 14:27Speaker 1: contemplate them until they are firmly fixed upon memory. If
- 14:31Speaker 1: you wish speedier results, spend practically or your spare time
- 14:34Speaker 1: in this practice. By continuous contemplation, you will get the
- 14:38Speaker 1: picture of what you want, even to the smallest details,
- 14:42Speaker 1: so firmly fixed upon your mind, and so completely transfer
- 14:45Speaker 1: to the mind of formless substance, that in your working
- 14:48Speaker 1: hours you need only to mentally refer to the picture
- 14:51Speaker 1: to stimulate your faith and purpose and cause your best
- 14:54Speaker 1: effort to be put forth. Contemplate your picture in your
- 14:57Speaker 1: leisure hours until your consciousness is so full of that
- 15:01Speaker 1: that you can grasp it instantly. You will become so
- 15:04Speaker 1: enthused in its bright promises that the mere thought of
- 15:07Speaker 1: it will call forth the strongest energies of your whole being.
- 15:11Speaker 1: Let us again repeat our syllabus, and, by slightly changing
- 15:15Speaker 1: the closing statements, bring it to the point we have
- 15:17Speaker 1: now reached. There is a thinking stuff from which all
- 15:21Speaker 1: things are made, and which in its original state permits, penetrates,
- 15:25Speaker 1: and fills the interspaces of the universe. A thought in
- 15:29Speaker 1: this substance produces the thing that is imaged by the thought.
- 15:33Speaker 1: Man can form things in his thought, and by impressing
- 15:36Speaker 1: his thought upon foreigners, substance can cause the thing he
- 15:39Speaker 1: thinks about to be created. In order to do this,
- 15:43Speaker 1: man must pass from the competitive to the creative mind.
- 15:46Speaker 1: He must form a clear mental picture of the things
- 15:49Speaker 1: he wants, and do with faith and purpose all that
- 15:52Speaker 1: can be done each day, doing each separate thing in
- 15:55Speaker 1: an efficient manner, further use of the will. You cannot
- 16:00Speaker 1: retain a true and clear vision of wealth if you
- 16:03Speaker 1: are constantly turning your attention to opposing pictures, whether they
- 16:06Speaker 1: be external or imaginary. Do not tell of your past
- 16:10Speaker 1: troubles of a financial nature. If you have had them,
- 16:13Speaker 1: do not think of them at all. Do not tell
- 16:16Speaker 1: of the poverty of your parents or the hardships of
- 16:18Speaker 1: your early life. To do any of these things is
- 16:21Speaker 1: to mentally class yourself with the poor for the time being,
- 16:25Speaker 1: and it will certainly check the movement of things in
- 16:27Speaker 1: your direction. Let the dead bury their dead, as Jesus said,
- 16:33Speaker 1: put poverty in all things that pertain to poverty completely
- 16:36Speaker 1: behind you. You have accepted a certain theory of the
- 16:39Speaker 1: universe's being correct, and are resting all your hopes of
- 16:42Speaker 1: happiness on its being correct. And what can you gain
- 16:45Speaker 1: by giving heed to conflicting theories? Do not read religious
- 16:50Speaker 1: books which tell you that the Word is soon coming
- 16:52Speaker 1: to an end, And do not read the writing of
- 16:55Speaker 1: mackrackers and pessimistic philosophers who tell you that it is
- 16:58Speaker 1: going to the devil. The world is not going to
- 17:01Speaker 1: the devil. It is going to God. It is wonderful
- 17:04Speaker 1: becoming true. There may be a good many things in
- 17:07Speaker 1: existing conditions which are disagreeable, But what is the use
- 17:11Speaker 1: of studying them when they are certainly passing away? And
- 17:14Speaker 1: when the study of them only tends to check their
- 17:16Speaker 1: passing and keep them with us. Why give time and
- 17:19Speaker 1: attention to things which are being removed by evolutionary growth
- 17:23Speaker 1: when you can hasten their removal only by promoting the
- 17:26Speaker 1: evolutionary growth as far as your part of it goes.
- 17:29Speaker 1: No matter how horrible in seeming may be the conditions
- 17:32Speaker 1: in certain countries, sections, or places, you waste your time
- 17:36Speaker 1: and destroy your own chances by considering them. You should
- 17:39Speaker 1: interest yourself in the words becoming rich. Think of the
- 17:44Speaker 1: riches the world is coming into, instead of the poverty
- 17:47Speaker 1: it is growing out of. And bear in mind that
- 17:50Speaker 1: the only way in which you can assist the world
- 17:52Speaker 1: in growing rich is by growing rich yourself through the
- 17:55Speaker 1: creative method, not the competitive one. Give your attention wholly
- 17:59Speaker 1: to the rich, ignore poverty. Whenever you think or speak
- 18:04Speaker 1: of those who are poor, Think and speak of them
- 18:06Speaker 1: as those who are becoming rich, as those who are
- 18:09Speaker 1: to be congratulated rather than pitied. Then they and others
- 18:13Speaker 1: will catch the inspiration and begin to search for the
- 18:16Speaker 1: way out. Because I say that you are to give
- 18:19Speaker 1: your whole time and mind and thought to riches, it
- 18:22Speaker 1: does not follow that you are to be sordid or mean.
- 18:26Speaker 1: To become really rich is the noblest aim you can
- 18:28Speaker 1: have in life, for it includes everything else. On the
- 18:32Speaker 1: competitive plane, the struggle to get rich is a godless
- 18:35Speaker 1: crumble for power over other men. But when we come
- 18:38Speaker 1: into the creative mind, all this is changed. All that
- 18:42Speaker 1: is possible in the way of greatness and soul, unfallment
- 18:45Speaker 1: of service and lofty endeavor comes by way of getting rich.
- 18:49Speaker 1: All is made possible by the use of things. If
- 18:52Speaker 1: you lack for physical health, you will find that the
- 18:55Speaker 1: attainment of it is conditional. On your getting rich. Only
- 18:59Speaker 1: those who are a man cipated from financial worry and
- 19:02Speaker 1: to have the means to leave a care free existence
- 19:04Speaker 1: and follow hygienic practices, can have and retain health. Moral
- 19:08Speaker 1: and spiritual greatness is possible only to those who are
- 19:11Speaker 1: above the competitive battle of existence, and only those who
- 19:15Speaker 1: are becoming rich on the plane of creative thought are
- 19:18Speaker 1: free from degrading influences of competition. If your heart is
- 19:22Speaker 1: set on domestic happiness, remember that love flourishes best where
- 19:25Speaker 1: there is refinement, a high level of thought, and freedom
- 19:29Speaker 1: from corrupting influences. And these are to be found only
- 19:32Speaker 1: where riches are attained by the exercise of creative thought.
- 19:35Speaker 1: Without strife or rivalry. You can aim at nothing so
- 19:39Speaker 1: great or noble. I repeat as to become rich, and
- 19:42Speaker 1: you must fix your attention upon your mental picture of riches,
- 19:45Speaker 1: to the exclusion of all that may tend to dim
- 19:48Speaker 1: or obscure the vision. You must learn to see the
- 19:51Speaker 1: underlying truth in all things. You must see beneath all
- 19:54Speaker 1: seemingly wrong conditions to great one life ever, moving forward
- 19:58Speaker 1: toward fuller expression and more complete happiness. It is the
- 20:03Speaker 1: truth that there is no such thing as poverty, that
- 20:06Speaker 1: there is only wealth. Some people remain in poverty because
- 20:10Speaker 1: they are ignorant of the fact that there is wealth
- 20:12Speaker 1: for them, And these can be best taught by showing
- 20:14Speaker 1: them the way of affluence in your own person and practice.
- 20:18Speaker 1: Others are poor because while they feel that there is
- 20:21Speaker 1: a way out, they are too intellectually indolent to put
- 20:24Speaker 1: forth the mental effort necessary to find that way and
- 20:27Speaker 1: by travel it. And for these the very best thing
- 20:30Speaker 1: you can do is to arouse their desire by showing
- 20:33Speaker 1: them the happiness that comes from being rightly rich. Others
- 20:37Speaker 1: still are poor because while they have some notion of science,
- 20:40Speaker 1: they have become so swamped and lost in the maze
- 20:43Speaker 1: of metaphysical and occult theories that they do not know
- 20:46Speaker 1: which road to take. They try a mixture of many
- 20:49Speaker 1: systems and fail in all. For these, again, the very
- 20:52Speaker 1: best thing to do is to show the right way
- 20:55Speaker 1: in your own person and practice. An ounce of doing
- 20:58Speaker 1: things is worth a pound of theorizing the very best
- 21:02Speaker 1: thing you can do for the whole world is to
- 21:04Speaker 1: make the most of yourself. You can serve God and
- 21:07Speaker 1: man in no more effective way than by getting rich.
- 21:10Speaker 1: That is, if you get rich by the creative method
- 21:13Speaker 1: and not by the competitive one. Another thing, we assert
- 21:17Speaker 1: that this book gives in detail the principles of the
- 21:19Speaker 1: science of getting rich, and if that is true, you
- 21:22Speaker 1: do not need to read any other book upon the subject.
- 21:25Speaker 1: This may sound narrow and egoistical, but consider there is
- 21:29Speaker 1: no more scientific method of computation and mathematics than by addition, substruction, multiplication,
- 21:35Speaker 1: and division. No other method is possible. There can be
- 21:39Speaker 1: but one shortest distance between two points. There is only
- 21:43Speaker 1: one way to think scientifically, and that is to think
- 21:46Speaker 1: in the way that leads to the most direct and
- 21:48Speaker 1: simple route to the goal. No man has yet formulated
- 21:51Speaker 1: a briefer or less complex system than the one set
- 21:55Speaker 1: forth here in. It has been stripped of all non essentials.
- 21:59Speaker 1: When you come out on this lay all others aside.
- 22:02Speaker 1: Put them out of your mind altogether. Read this book
- 22:06Speaker 1: every day, keep it with you, commit it to memory,
- 22:09Speaker 1: and do not think about other systems and theories. If
- 22:12Speaker 1: you do, you will begin to have doubts and to
- 22:15Speaker 1: be uncertain and wavering in your thought, and then you
- 22:18Speaker 1: will begin to make failures. After you have made good
- 22:22Speaker 1: and become rich, you may study other systems as much
- 22:25Speaker 1: as you please, but until you are quite sure that
- 22:27Speaker 1: you have gained what you want, do not read anything
- 22:30Speaker 1: on this line but this book unless it be the
- 22:33Speaker 1: authors mentioned in the preface, and read only the most
- 22:36Speaker 1: optimistic commands on the words news. Those in harmony with
- 22:40Speaker 1: your picture also postpone your investigations into the occult. Do
- 22:46Speaker 1: not dabble in theosophy, spiritualism, or kindred studies. It is
- 22:50Speaker 1: very likely that the dead still live and are near.
- 22:54Speaker 1: But if they are, let them alone. Mind your own business.
- 22:58Speaker 1: Wherever the spirits of the dead may be, they have
- 23:00Speaker 1: their own work to do and their own problems to solve,
- 23:04Speaker 1: and we have no right to interfere with them. We
- 23:06Speaker 1: cannot help them, and it is very doubtful whether they
- 23:09Speaker 1: can help us, or whether we have any right to
- 23:11Speaker 1: trespass upon their time. If they can, let the dead
- 23:15Speaker 1: and the hereafter alone and solve your own problem, get rich.
- 23:19Speaker 1: If you begin to mix with de occult, you will
- 23:22Speaker 1: start mental cross currents, which will surely bring your hopes
- 23:25Speaker 1: to shipwreck. Now these and the preceding chapters have brought
- 23:29Speaker 1: us to the following statement of the basic facts. There
- 23:33Speaker 1: is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
- 23:35Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and fills
- 23:39Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
- 23:43Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
- 23:47Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
- 23:50Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks
- 23:53Speaker 1: about to be created. In order to do this, man
- 23:57Speaker 1: must pass from the competitive to the creative. He must
- 24:01Speaker 1: form a clear mental picture of the things he wants,
- 24:03Speaker 1: and hold his picture in his thoughts with the fixed
- 24:06Speaker 1: purpose to get what he wants, and their waving faith
- 24:09Speaker 1: that he does get what he wants, closing his mind
- 24:12Speaker 1: against all that may tend to shake his purpose, dim
- 24:15Speaker 1: his vision, or quench his faith. And in addition to
- 24:18Speaker 1: all this, we shall now see that he must live
- 24:21Speaker 1: and act in a certain way getting into the right business.
- 24:27Speaker 1: Success in any particular business depends for one thing, upon
- 24:31Speaker 1: your possessing in a well developed state. The faculty is
- 24:33Speaker 1: required in that business. Without good musical faculty, no one
- 24:38Speaker 1: can succeed as a teacher of music. Without well developed
- 24:41Speaker 1: mechanical faculties. No one can achieve great success in any
- 24:44Speaker 1: of the mechanical trades without tact and the commercial faculties.
- 24:49Speaker 1: No one can succeed in mercantile pursuits, but to possess
- 24:52Speaker 1: in a well developed state. The faculties required in your
- 24:55Speaker 1: particular vocation does not ensure getting rich. There are musicians
- 25:00Speaker 1: you have remarkable talent, and who yet remain poor. There
- 25:03Speaker 1: are blacksmiths, carpenters, and so on who have excellent mechanical ability,
- 25:08Speaker 1: but who do not get rich. And there are merchants
- 25:11Speaker 1: with good faculties for dealing with men who nevertheless fail.
- 25:15Speaker 1: The different faculties are tools. It is essential to have
- 25:18Speaker 1: good tools, but it is also essential that the tools
- 25:21Speaker 1: should be used in the right way. One man can
- 25:24Speaker 1: take a sharp saw, a square, a good plane, and
- 25:28Speaker 1: so on, and build a handsome article of furniture. Another
- 25:31Speaker 1: man can take the same tools and set to work
- 25:34Speaker 1: to duplicate the article, but his production will be a botch.
- 25:38Speaker 1: He does not know how to use good tools in
- 25:41Speaker 1: a successful way. The various faculties of your mind are
- 25:45Speaker 1: the tools with which you must do the work which
- 25:47Speaker 1: is to make you rich. It will be easier for
- 25:50Speaker 1: you to succeed if you get into a business for
- 25:52Speaker 1: which you are well equipped with mental tools. Generally speaking,
- 25:56Speaker 1: you will do best in that business which will use
- 25:59Speaker 1: your strongest faculty, is the one for which you are
- 26:02Speaker 1: naturally best fitted. But there are limitations to this statement. Also,
- 26:06Speaker 1: no man should regard his vocation as being irrevocably fixed
- 26:10Speaker 1: by the tendencies with which he was born. You can
- 26:13Speaker 1: get rich in any business, for if you have not
- 26:15Speaker 1: the right talent, you can develop that talent. It merely
- 26:19Speaker 1: means that you will have to make your tools as
- 26:21Speaker 1: you go along, instead of confining yourself to the use
- 26:25Speaker 1: of those with which you were born. It will be
- 26:27Speaker 1: easier for you to succeed in a vocation for which
- 26:30Speaker 1: you already have the talents in a well developed state.
- 26:33Speaker 1: But you can succeed in any vocation, for you can
- 26:36Speaker 1: develop any rudimentary talent, and there is no talent of
- 26:39Speaker 1: which you have not at least the rudiment. You will
- 26:42Speaker 1: get rich most easily in point of effort if you
- 26:45Speaker 1: do that for which you are best fitted. But you
- 26:48Speaker 1: will get rich most satisfactory if you do that which
- 26:51Speaker 1: you want to do. Doing what you want to do
- 26:54Speaker 1: is life, and there is no real satisfaction in living.
- 26:57Speaker 1: If we are compelled to be forever doing something which
- 27:00Speaker 1: we do not like to do and can never do
- 27:02Speaker 1: what we want to do. And it is certain that
- 27:05Speaker 1: you can do what you want to do. The desire
- 27:07Speaker 1: to do it is proof that you have within you
- 27:09Speaker 1: the power which can do it. Desire is a manifestation
- 27:13Speaker 1: of power. The desire to play music is the power
- 27:16Speaker 1: which can play music, seeking expression and development. The desire
- 27:20Speaker 1: to invent mechanical devices is the mechanical talent seeking expression
- 27:24Speaker 1: and development. Where there is no power, either developed or undeveloped,
- 27:28Speaker 1: to do a thing, there is never any desire to
- 27:31Speaker 1: do that thing, And where there is strong desire to
- 27:34Speaker 1: do a thing, it is certain proof that the power
- 27:36Speaker 1: to do it is strong and only requires to be
- 27:39Speaker 1: developed and applied in the right way, all things else
- 27:43Speaker 1: being equal. It is best to select the business for
- 27:46Speaker 1: which you have the best developed talent. But if you
- 27:49Speaker 1: have a strong desire to engage in any particular line
- 27:51Speaker 1: of work, you should select that work as the ultimate
- 27:54Speaker 1: end at which you aim. You can do what you
- 27:57Speaker 1: want to do, and it is your right and privilege
- 28:00Speaker 1: to follow the business or avocation which will be most
- 28:03Speaker 1: congenial and pleasant. You are not obliged to do what
- 28:07Speaker 1: you do not like to do, and you should not
- 28:09Speaker 1: do it except as the means to bring you to
- 28:11Speaker 1: the doing of the thing you want to do. If
- 28:14Speaker 1: there are past mistakes whose consequences have placed you in
- 28:17Speaker 1: an undesirable business or environment, you may be obliged for
- 28:21Speaker 1: some time to do what you do not like to do.
- 28:23Speaker 1: But you can make the doing of it pleasant by
- 28:25Speaker 1: knowing that it is making it possible for you to
- 28:28Speaker 1: come to the doing of what you want to do.
- 28:30Speaker 1: If you feel that you are not in the right vocation,
- 28:33Speaker 1: do not act too hastily in trying to get into
- 28:35Speaker 1: another one. The best way generally to change business or
- 28:38Speaker 1: environment is by growth. Do not be afraid to make
- 28:41Speaker 1: a sudden and radical change if the opportunity is presented
- 28:45Speaker 1: and you feel, after careful consideration that it is the
- 28:48Speaker 1: right opportunity. But never take sudden or radical action when
- 28:52Speaker 1: you are in doubt as to the wisdom of doing so.
- 28:56Speaker 1: There is never any hurry on the creative plane, and
- 28:58Speaker 1: there is no lack of opportunity. When you get out
- 29:01Speaker 1: of the competitive mind, you will understand that you never
- 29:04Speaker 1: need to act hastily. No one else is going to
- 29:07Speaker 1: beat you to the thing you want to do. There
- 29:10Speaker 1: is enough for all. If one space is taken another
- 29:13Speaker 1: and a better one will be opened for you a
- 29:15Speaker 1: little farther on. There is plenty of time when you
- 29:18Speaker 1: are in doubt, wait, fall back on the contemplation of
- 29:22Speaker 1: your vision, and increase your faith and purpose, and by
- 29:25Speaker 1: all means, in times of doubt and indecision, cultivate gratitude.
- 29:30Speaker 1: A day or two spent in contemplating the vision of
- 29:33Speaker 1: what you want, and in earnest thanksgiving that you are
- 29:36Speaker 1: getting it will bring your mind into such close relationship
- 29:39Speaker 1: with the Supreme that you will make no mistake when
- 29:42Speaker 1: you do act. There is a mind which knows all
- 29:45Speaker 1: there is to know, and you can come into close
- 29:48Speaker 1: unity with this mind by faith and the purpose to
- 29:50Speaker 1: advance in life if you have deep gratitude. Mistakes come
- 29:54Speaker 1: from acting hastily, or from acting in fear or doubt,
- 29:58Speaker 1: or in forgetfulness of the right motive, which is more
- 30:01Speaker 1: life to all and less to none. As you go
- 30:04Speaker 1: on in a certain way, opportunities will come to you
- 30:07Speaker 1: in increasing number, and you will need to be very
- 30:09Speaker 1: steady in your faith and purpose, and to keep in
- 30:12Speaker 1: close touch with the old mind. By reverent gratitude. Do
- 30:16Speaker 1: all that you can do in a perfect manner every day,
- 30:19Speaker 1: but do it without haste, worry, or fear. Go as
- 30:22Speaker 1: fast as you can, but never hurry. Remember that in
- 30:26Speaker 1: the moment you begin to hurry, you cease to be
- 30:28Speaker 1: a creator and become a competitor. You drop back upon
- 30:32Speaker 1: the old plane again. Whenever you find yourself hurrying, call
- 30:36Speaker 1: a halt, fix your attention on the mental image of
- 30:39Speaker 1: the thing you want, and begin to give thanks that
- 30:42Speaker 1: you are getting it. The exercise of gratitude will never
- 30:45Speaker 1: fail to strengthen your faith and renew your purpose gratitude.
- 30:51Speaker 1: The illustrations given in the last chapter will have conveyed
- 30:54Speaker 1: to the reader the fact that the first step toward
- 30:57Speaker 1: getting rich is to convey the idea of your want
- 31:00Speaker 1: to the formless substance. This is true, and you will
- 31:03Speaker 1: see that in order to do so, it becomes necessary
- 31:06Speaker 1: to relate yourself to the formless intelligence in a harmonious way.
- 31:11Speaker 1: To secure this harmonious relation is a matter of such
- 31:14Speaker 1: primary and vital importance that I shall give some space
- 31:17Speaker 1: to its discussion here and give you instructions which, if
- 31:20Speaker 1: you will follow them, will be certain to bring you
- 31:23Speaker 1: into perfect unity of mind with God. The whole process
- 31:26Speaker 1: of mental adjustment and atonement can be summed up in
- 31:29Speaker 1: one word, gratitude. First, you believe that there is one
- 31:33Speaker 1: intelligent substance from which all things proceed. Second, you believe
- 31:38Speaker 1: that this substance gives you everything you desire, And third
- 31:42Speaker 1: you relate yourself to it by a feeling of deep
- 31:44Speaker 1: and profound gratitude. Many people who order their lives rightly
- 31:49Speaker 1: in all other ways are kept in poverty by their
- 31:52Speaker 1: lack of gratitude. Having received one gift from God, they
- 31:56Speaker 1: cut the wires which connect them with Him by failing
- 31:59Speaker 1: to make acknowledgment. It is easy to understand that the
- 32:03Speaker 1: nearer will lift the source of wealth, the more wealth
- 32:06Speaker 1: we shall receive. And it is easy also to understand
- 32:09Speaker 1: that the soul that is always grateful lives in closer
- 32:12Speaker 1: touch with God than the one which never looks to
- 32:15Speaker 1: Him in thankful acknowledgment. The more gratefully if we fix
- 32:18Speaker 1: our minds on the Supreme when good things come to us,
- 32:21Speaker 1: the more good things we will receive, and the more
- 32:24Speaker 1: rapidly they will come. And the reason simply is that
- 32:27Speaker 1: the mental attitude of gratitude draws the mind into closer
- 32:30Speaker 1: touch with the source from which the blessings come. If
- 32:34Speaker 1: it is a new thought to you that gratitude brings
- 32:37Speaker 1: your whole mind into closer harmony with the creative energies
- 32:40Speaker 1: of the universe, consider it well, and you will see
- 32:43Speaker 1: that it is true. The good things you already have
- 32:46Speaker 1: have come to you along the line of obedience to
- 32:49Speaker 1: certain laws. Gratitude will lead your mind out along the
- 32:52Speaker 1: ways by which things come, and it will keep you
- 32:55Speaker 1: in close harmony with creative thought and prevent you from
- 32:58Speaker 1: falling into competence thought. Gratitude alone can keep you looking
- 33:03Speaker 1: toward the all and prevent you from falling into the
- 33:06Speaker 1: error of thinking of the supply as limited, and to
- 33:09Speaker 1: do that would be fatal to your hopes. There is
- 33:12Speaker 1: a law of gratitude, and it is absolutely necessary that
- 33:15Speaker 1: you should observe the law if you are to get
- 33:18Speaker 1: the results you seek. The law of gratitude is the
- 33:21Speaker 1: natural principle that action and reaction are always equal and
- 33:24Speaker 1: in opposite directions. The grateful outreaching of your mind in
- 33:28Speaker 1: thankful praise to the Supreme is a liberation or expenditure
- 33:32Speaker 1: of force. It cannot fail to reach that to which
- 33:35Speaker 1: it addressed, and the reaction is an instantaneous movement towards
- 33:39Speaker 1: You draw nigh unto God, and He will draw nigh
- 33:43Speaker 1: unto you. That is a statement of ziological truth. And
- 33:48Speaker 1: if your gratitude is strong and constant, the reaction in
- 33:51Speaker 1: formless substance will be strong and continuous. The movement of
- 33:55Speaker 1: the things you want will be always toward you. Notice
- 33:58Speaker 1: the grateful attitude that these took. How he always seems
- 34:01Speaker 1: to be saying, I thank thee Father that thou hearest me.
- 34:06Speaker 1: You cannot exercise much power without gratitude. For this gratitude
- 34:10Speaker 1: that keeps you connected with power. But the value of
- 34:13Speaker 1: gratitude does not consist solely in getting you more blessings
- 34:17Speaker 1: in the future. Without gratitude, you cannot long keep from
- 34:20Speaker 1: the satisfied thought regarding things as they are. The moment
- 34:24Speaker 1: you permit your mind to dwell with the satisfaction upon
- 34:27Speaker 1: things as they are, you begin to lose ground. You
- 34:30Speaker 1: fix attention upon the common, the ordinary, the poor, and
- 34:34Speaker 1: the squalid and mean, and your mind takes the form
- 34:37Speaker 1: of these things. Then you will transmit these forms or
- 34:41Speaker 1: mental images to the formness and the common, the poor,
- 34:44Speaker 1: the squalid, the mean will come to you. To permit
- 34:47Speaker 1: your mind to dwell upon the inferior is to become inferior,
- 34:50Speaker 1: and to surround yourself with inferior things. On the other hand,
- 34:54Speaker 1: to fix your attention on the best is to surround
- 34:57Speaker 1: yourself with the best, and to become the best. The
- 35:00Speaker 1: creative power within us makes us into the image of debt,
- 35:03Speaker 1: to which we give our attention. We are thinking substance,
- 35:07Speaker 1: and thinking substance always takes the form of death to
- 35:10Speaker 1: which it thinks about. The grateful mind is constantly fixed
- 35:14Speaker 1: upon the best. Therefore it tends to become the best.
- 35:17Speaker 1: It takes the form or character of the best, and
- 35:20Speaker 1: we are received the best. Also, faith is born of gratitude.
- 35:24Speaker 1: To grateful mind continually expects good things, and expectation becomes faith.
- 35:30Speaker 1: The reaction of gratitude upon one's own mind produces faith,
- 35:34Speaker 1: and every outgoing wave of grateful thanksgiving increases faith. He
- 35:38Speaker 1: who has no feeling of gratitude cannot long retain a
- 35:41Speaker 1: living faith, And without a living faith, you cannot get
- 35:45Speaker 1: rich by the creative method, as we shall see in
- 35:47Speaker 1: the following chapters. It is necessary, then, to cultivate the
- 35:51Speaker 1: habit of being grateful for every good thing that comes
- 35:54Speaker 1: to you, and to give thanks continuously. And because all
- 35:58Speaker 1: things have contributed to you advancement, you should include all
- 36:02Speaker 1: things in your gratitude. Do not waste time thinking or
- 36:06Speaker 1: talking about the shortcomings or wrong actions of plutocrats or
- 36:09Speaker 1: trust magnets. Their organization of the world has made your opportunity.
- 36:14Speaker 1: All you get really comes to you because of them.
- 36:17Speaker 1: Do not rage against corrupt politicians. If it were not
- 36:21Speaker 1: for politicians, we should fall into anarchy, and your opportunity
- 36:24Speaker 1: would be greatly lessened. God has worked a long time
- 36:28Speaker 1: and very patiently to bring us up to where we
- 36:30Speaker 1: are in industry and government, and he is going right
- 36:33Speaker 1: on with his work. There is not the least doubt
- 36:36Speaker 1: that he will do away the plutocrats, trust magnets, captains
- 36:40Speaker 1: of industry and politicians as soon as they can be spared.
- 36:44Speaker 1: But in the meantime, behold they are all very good.
- 36:47Speaker 1: Remember that they are all helping to arrange the lines
- 36:50Speaker 1: of transmission along which your riches will come to you.
- 36:53Speaker 1: And be grateful to them all. This will bring you
- 36:56Speaker 1: into harmonious relations with the good in everything, and the
- 37:00Speaker 1: good in everything will move toward you. How riches come
- 37:04Speaker 1: to you. When I say that you do not have
- 37:07Speaker 1: to drive sharp bargains, I do not mean that you
- 37:10Speaker 1: do not have to drive any bargains at all, or
- 37:12Speaker 1: that you are above the necessity for having any dealings
- 37:15Speaker 1: with your fellow man. I mean that you will not
- 37:18Speaker 1: need to deal with them unfairly. You do not have
- 37:21Speaker 1: to get something for nothing, but can give to every
- 37:24Speaker 1: man more than you take from him. You cannot give
- 37:27Speaker 1: every man more in cash market value than you take
- 37:29Speaker 1: from him, but you can give him more in use
- 37:32Speaker 1: value than the cash value of the thing you take
- 37:34Speaker 1: from him. The paper, ink, and other material in this
- 37:37Speaker 1: book may not be worth the money you pay for it,
- 37:40Speaker 1: but if the ideas suggested in it bring you thousands
- 37:44Speaker 1: of dollars, you have not been wronged by those who
- 37:46Speaker 1: sold it to you. They have given you a great
- 37:49Speaker 1: use value for a small cash value. Let us suppose
- 37:52Speaker 1: that I own a picture by one of the greatest artists,
- 37:55Speaker 1: which in any civilized community is worth thousands of dollars.
- 38:00Speaker 1: I take it to Baffin Bay and buy salesmanship, induce
- 38:03Speaker 1: an Esquimaux to give a bundle of furs worth five
- 38:06Speaker 1: hundred for it. I have really wronged him, for he
- 38:09Speaker 1: has no use for the picture. It has no use
- 38:12Speaker 1: value to him. It will not add to his life.
- 38:15Speaker 1: But suppose I give him a gun worth fifty dollars
- 38:18Speaker 1: for his furs, then he has made a good bargain.
- 38:22Speaker 1: He has use for the gun. It will get him
- 38:25Speaker 1: many more furs and much food. It will add to
- 38:27Speaker 1: his life in every day. It will make him rich.
- 38:31Speaker 1: When you rise from the competitive to the creative plane,
- 38:34Speaker 1: you can scan your business transactions very strictly. And if
- 38:38Speaker 1: you are selling any man anything which does not add
- 38:40Speaker 1: more to his life than the thing he gives you
- 38:42Speaker 1: in exchange, you can afford to stop it. You do
- 38:46Speaker 1: not have to beat anybody in business. And if you
- 38:49Speaker 1: are in a business which does beat people, get out
- 38:52Speaker 1: of it at once. Give every man more in use
- 38:55Speaker 1: value than you take from him in cash value. Then
- 38:59Speaker 1: you are adding to the life of the world by
- 39:00Speaker 1: every business transaction. If you have people working for you,
- 39:05Speaker 1: you must take from them more cash value than you
- 39:07Speaker 1: pay them in wages. But you can so organize your
- 39:11Speaker 1: business that it will be filled with the principle of advancement,
- 39:14Speaker 1: and so that each employee who wishes to do so
- 39:17Speaker 1: may advance a little every day. You can make your
- 39:20Speaker 1: business do for your employees what this book is doing
- 39:23Speaker 1: for you. You can so conduct your business that it
- 39:26Speaker 1: will be a sort of letter by which every employee
- 39:28Speaker 1: who will take the trouble may clime to riches himself.
- 39:31Speaker 1: And given the opportunity, if he will not do so,
- 39:34Speaker 1: it is not your fault. And finally, because you are
- 39:38Speaker 1: to cause the creation of your riches from formless substance,
- 39:40Speaker 1: which permits all your environment, it does not follow that
- 39:44Speaker 1: they are to take shape from the atmosphere and come
- 39:46Speaker 1: into being before your eyes. If you want a sewing machine,
- 39:49Speaker 1: for instance, I do not mean to tell you that
- 39:52Speaker 1: you are to impress the thought of a suing machine
- 39:54Speaker 1: on thinking substance until the machine is formed without hands,
- 39:58Speaker 1: in the room where you sit or elsewhere. But if
- 40:00Speaker 1: you want a sewing machine, hold a mental image of
- 40:03Speaker 1: it with the most positive certainty that it is being
- 40:05Speaker 1: made or is on its way to you. After once
- 40:09Speaker 1: forming the thought, have the most absolute and unquestioning faith
- 40:12Speaker 1: that the suing machine is coming. Never think of it
- 40:15Speaker 1: or speak of it in any other way than as
- 40:18Speaker 1: being sure to arrive. Claim it as already yours. It
- 40:22Speaker 1: will be brought to you by the power of the
- 40:24Speaker 1: Supreme Intelligence acting upon the minds of man. If you
- 40:27Speaker 1: live in Maine, it may be that a man will
- 40:30Speaker 1: be brought from Taxes or Japan to engage in some
- 40:32Speaker 1: transaction which will result in your getting what you want.
- 40:36Speaker 1: If so, the whole matter will be as much to
- 40:38Speaker 1: that man's advantage as it is to yours. Do not
- 40:42Speaker 1: forget for a moment that the thinking substance is through all,
- 40:45Speaker 1: in all, communicating with all, and can influence all. The
- 40:49Speaker 1: desire of thinking substance for fuller life and better living
- 40:53Speaker 1: has caused a creation of all the sewing machines already made,
- 40:56Speaker 1: and this can cause a creation of millions more, and
- 40:59Speaker 1: will when never man set it in motion. By desire
- 41:02Speaker 1: and faith, and by acting in a certain way, you
- 41:05Speaker 1: can certainly have a sewing machine in your house. And
- 41:08Speaker 1: it is just as certain that you can have any
- 41:11Speaker 1: other thing or things which you want and which you
- 41:13Speaker 1: will use for the advancement of your own life and
- 41:16Speaker 1: the lives of others. You need not hesitate about asking. Largely,
- 41:20Speaker 1: it is your father's pleasure to give you the kingdom,
- 41:23Speaker 1: said Jesus. Original substance wants to live all that is
- 41:27Speaker 1: possible in you, and want you to have all that
- 41:29Speaker 1: you can or will use for the living of the
- 41:32Speaker 1: most abundant life. If you fix upon your consciousness the
- 41:36Speaker 1: fact that the desire you feel for the possession of
- 41:38Speaker 1: riches is one with the desire for omnipotence, for more
- 41:41Speaker 1: complete expression, your faith becomes invincible. Once I saw a
- 41:46Speaker 1: little boy sitting at a piano and vainly trying to
- 41:49Speaker 1: bring harmony out of the keys, and I saw that
- 41:52Speaker 1: he was grieved and provoked by his inability to play
- 41:55Speaker 1: real music. I asked him the cause of this vexation,
- 41:58Speaker 1: and he answered, I can feel the music in me,
- 42:01Speaker 1: but I can make my hands go right. The music
- 42:04Speaker 1: in him was the urge of original substance, containing all
- 42:07Speaker 1: the possibilities of all life. All that deairies of music
- 42:11Speaker 1: was seeking expression through the child God. The one's substance
- 42:15Speaker 1: is trying to live and do and enjoy things through humanity.
- 42:19Speaker 1: He is saying, I want hands to build wonderful structures,
- 42:22Speaker 1: to play divine harmonies, to paint glorious pictures. I want
- 42:27Speaker 1: fit to run my errands, eyes to see my beauties,
- 42:30Speaker 1: tongues to tell mighty truths, and to sing marvelous songs,
- 42:34Speaker 1: and so on. All that deairies of possibility is seeking
- 42:38Speaker 1: expression through man. God wants those who can play music
- 42:41Speaker 1: to have pianos and every other instrument, and to have
- 42:44Speaker 1: to miss to cultivate their talents to the fullest extent.
- 42:48Speaker 1: He wants those who can appreciate beauty to be able
- 42:51Speaker 1: to surround themselves with beautiful things. He wants those who
- 42:54Speaker 1: can discern the truth to have every opportunity to travel
- 42:57Speaker 1: and observe. He wants those who can appre each He
- 43:00Speaker 1: had dressed to be beautifully clothed, and those who can
- 43:03Speaker 1: appreciate good food to be luxuriously fed. He wants all
- 43:07Speaker 1: these things because it is himself that enjoys and appreciates them.
- 43:11Speaker 1: It is God who wants to play and sing and
- 43:13Speaker 1: enjoy beauty, and proclaim truth, and wear fine clothes and
- 43:17Speaker 1: eat good foods. It is God that worketh in you
- 43:20Speaker 1: to will and to do, said Paul. The desire you
- 43:24Speaker 1: feel for riches is the infinite seeking to express himself
- 43:27Speaker 1: in you, as He thought to find expression in the
- 43:30Speaker 1: little boy at the piano. So you need not hesitate
- 43:33Speaker 1: to ask. Largely your part is to vocalize and express
- 43:37Speaker 1: the desire to God. This is a difficult point with
- 43:41Speaker 1: most people. They retain something of the old idea that
- 43:44Speaker 1: poverty and self sacrifice are pleasing to God. They look
- 43:48Speaker 1: upon poverty as a part of the plan, a necessity
- 43:51Speaker 1: of nature. They have the idea that God has finished
- 43:54Speaker 1: his work and made all that he can make, and
- 43:57Speaker 1: that the majority of man must stay poor because there
- 44:00Speaker 1: is not enough to go round. They hold so much
- 44:03Speaker 1: to the erroneous thought that they feel ashamed to ask
- 44:06Speaker 1: for wealth. They try not to want more than a
- 44:09Speaker 1: very modest competence, just enough to make them fairly comfortable.
- 44:13Speaker 1: I recall now a case of one student who was
- 44:16Speaker 1: told that he must get in mind a clear picture
- 44:18Speaker 1: of the things he desired, so that the creative thought
- 44:21Speaker 1: of them might be impressed on formers substance. He was
- 44:24Speaker 1: a very poor man, living in a rented house and
- 44:27Speaker 1: having only what he earned from day to day, and
- 44:30Speaker 1: he could not grasp the fact that all wealth was his. So,
- 44:34Speaker 1: after thinking the matter over, he decided that he might
- 44:37Speaker 1: reasonably ask for a new rug on the floor of
- 44:40Speaker 1: his best room, and an entry side colstove to heat
- 44:43Speaker 1: the house during the cold winter. Following the instructions given
- 44:47Speaker 1: in this book, he obtained these things in a few months,
- 44:50Speaker 1: and that it dawned upon him that he had not
- 44:52Speaker 1: asked enough. He went through the house in which he
- 44:55Speaker 1: lived and planned all the improvements he would like to
- 44:58Speaker 1: make in it. He mentally added a bit window here,
- 45:00Speaker 1: a room there, until it was complete in his mind
- 45:03Speaker 1: as his ideal home, and then he planned its furnishings,
- 45:07Speaker 1: holding the whole picture in his mind. He began living
- 45:10Speaker 1: in a certain way and moving toward what he wanted.
- 45:13Speaker 1: And he owns the house now and is rebuilding it
- 45:16Speaker 1: after the form of his mental image. And now, with
- 45:19Speaker 1: still larger faith, he is going on to get greater things.
- 45:23Speaker 1: It has been unto him according to his faith. And
- 45:26Speaker 1: it is so with you and with all of us.
- 45:29Speaker 1: How to use the will to set about getting rich
- 45:33Speaker 1: in a scientific way? You do not try to apply
- 45:35Speaker 1: your will power to anything outside of yourself. You have
- 45:39Speaker 1: no right to do so. Anyway. It is wrong to
- 45:42Speaker 1: apply your will to other men and women in order
- 45:44Speaker 1: to get them do what you wish done. It is
- 45:48Speaker 1: as flagrantly wrong to coerce people by mental power as
- 45:52Speaker 1: it is to coerce them by physical power. If compelling
- 45:55Speaker 1: people by physical force to do things for you reduces
- 45:58Speaker 1: them to slavery, compelling them by mental means accomplishes exactly
- 46:02Speaker 1: the same thing. The only difference is in methods. If
- 46:05Speaker 1: taking things from people by physical forces robbery, then taking
- 46:09Speaker 1: things by mental force is robbery. Also, there is no
- 46:12Speaker 1: difference in principle. You have no right to use your
- 46:16Speaker 1: will power upon another person, even for his own good,
- 46:20Speaker 1: for you do not know what is for his good.
- 46:22Speaker 1: The science of getting rich does not require you to
- 46:25Speaker 1: apply power or force to any other person in any
- 46:28Speaker 1: way whatsoever. There is not the slightest necessity for doing so. Indeed,
- 46:33Speaker 1: any attempt to use your will upon others will only
- 46:36Speaker 1: tend to defeat your purpose. You do not need to
- 46:39Speaker 1: apply your will to things in order to compel them
- 46:41Speaker 1: to come to you. That will simply be trying to
- 46:45Speaker 1: cuerce God, and would be foolish and useless. As well
- 46:47Speaker 1: as irreverend, You do not have to compel God to
- 46:51Speaker 1: give you good things any more than you have to
- 46:53Speaker 1: use your will power to make the sun rise. You
- 46:56Speaker 1: do not have to use your will power to conquer
- 46:59Speaker 1: an unferently day, or to make stubborn and rebellious forces
- 47:03Speaker 1: do your bidding. Substance is friendly to you and is
- 47:06Speaker 1: more anxious to give you what you want than you
- 47:08Speaker 1: are to get it. To get rich, you need only
- 47:11Speaker 1: to use your will power upon yourself. When you know
- 47:15Speaker 1: what to think or do, then you must use your
- 47:17Speaker 1: will to compel yourself to think and do the right things.
- 47:21Speaker 1: That is the legitimate use of the will in getting
- 47:23Speaker 1: what you want. To use it in holding yourself to
- 47:26Speaker 1: the right course. Use your will to keep yourself thinking
- 47:29Speaker 1: and acting in a certain way. Do not try to
- 47:33Speaker 1: project your will, or your thoughts, or your mind out
- 47:36Speaker 1: into space to act on things or people. Keep your
- 47:40Speaker 1: mind at home. It can accomplish more there than elsewhere.
- 47:45Speaker 1: Use your mind to form a mental image of what
- 47:47Speaker 1: you want, and to hold that vision with faith and purpose,
- 47:51Speaker 1: And use your will to keep your mind working in
- 47:53Speaker 1: the right way. The more steady and continues your faith
- 47:57Speaker 1: and purpose, the more rapidly you will get rich. Because
- 48:00Speaker 1: you will make only positive impressions upon substance, and you
- 48:04Speaker 1: will not neutralize or offset them by negative impressions. The
- 48:08Speaker 1: picture of your desires, helb with faith and purpose, is
- 48:12Speaker 1: taken up by the formness and permits it to great
- 48:14Speaker 1: distances throughout the universe. For all I know, as this
- 48:18Speaker 1: impression spreads, all things are set moving toward its realization.
- 48:23Speaker 1: Every living thing, every inanimate thing, and the things yet
- 48:27Speaker 1: uncreated are stirred toward bringing into being that which you want.
- 48:31Speaker 1: All force begins to be exerted in that direction, All
- 48:35Speaker 1: things begin to move toward you. The minds of people
- 48:39Speaker 1: everywhere are influenced toward doing the things necessary to the
- 48:42Speaker 1: fulfilling of your desires, and they work for you unconsciously.
- 48:46Speaker 1: But you can check all this by starting a negative
- 48:48Speaker 1: impression in the formless substance. Doubt or unbelief is as
- 48:52Speaker 1: certain to start a movement away from you as faith
- 48:55Speaker 1: and purpose are to start one toward you. It is
- 48:58Speaker 1: by not understanding this that most people who try to
- 49:01Speaker 1: make use of mental science in getting rich make their failure.
- 49:05Speaker 1: Every hour and moment you spend in giving heed to
- 49:08Speaker 1: doubts and fears, every hour you spend in worry, every
- 49:11Speaker 1: hour in which your soul is possessed by unbelief, sets
- 49:15Speaker 1: a current away from you. In the whole domain of
- 49:17Speaker 1: intelligent substance, all the promises are unto them that believe,
- 49:22Speaker 1: and unto them. Only notice how insistent Jesus was upon
- 49:25Speaker 1: his point of belief. And now you know the reason why.
- 49:30Speaker 1: Since belief is all important, it behooves you to guard
- 49:32Speaker 1: your thoughts. And as your beliefs will be shaped in
- 49:35Speaker 1: a very great extent by the things you observe and
- 49:38Speaker 1: think about, it is important that you should command your attention.
- 49:42Speaker 1: And here the will comes into use, For it is
- 49:45Speaker 1: by your will that you determine upon what things your
- 49:47Speaker 1: attention shall be fixed. If you want to become rich,
- 49:51Speaker 1: you must not make a study of poverty. Things are
- 49:54Speaker 1: not brought into being by thinking about their opposites. Health
- 49:58Speaker 1: is never to be attained by studying disease and thinking
- 50:00Speaker 1: about disease. Righteousness is not to be promoted by studying
- 50:04Speaker 1: sin and thinking about sin. And no one ever got
- 50:07Speaker 1: rich by studying poverty and thinking about poverty. Medicine as
- 50:11Speaker 1: a science of disease has increased disease, religion as science
- 50:15Speaker 1: of sin has promoted sin, and economics as a study
- 50:18Speaker 1: of poverty will fill the word with wretchedness and want.
- 50:22Speaker 1: Do not talk about poverty, Do not investigate it or
- 50:25Speaker 1: concern yourself with it, never mind what its causes are.
- 50:29Speaker 1: You have nothing to do with them. What concerns you
- 50:32Speaker 1: is the cure. Do not spend your time in charitable
- 50:36Speaker 1: work or charity movements. All charity only tends to perpetuate
- 50:39Speaker 1: the wretchedness it aims to eradicate. I do not say
- 50:43Speaker 1: that you should be hard hearted or unkind and refuse
- 50:46Speaker 1: to hear the cry of need. But you must not
- 50:49Speaker 1: try to eradicate poverty in any of the conventional ways.
- 50:52Speaker 1: Put poverty behind you, and put all that pertains to
- 50:56Speaker 1: it behind you, and make good, get rich. That is
- 50:59Speaker 1: the best way you can help the poor. And you
- 51:01Speaker 1: cannot hold a mental image which is to make you
- 51:04Speaker 1: rich if you fill your mind with pictures of poverty.
- 51:07Speaker 1: Do not read books or papers which give you circumstantial
- 51:10Speaker 1: accounts of the wretchedness of the tenement dwellers, of the
- 51:13Speaker 1: horrors of child labor, and so on. Do not read
- 51:16Speaker 1: anything which fills your mind with gloomy images of want
- 51:19Speaker 1: and suffering. You cannot help the poor in the least
- 51:23Speaker 1: by knowing about these things, and the widespread knowledge of
- 51:26Speaker 1: them does not tend to all to do away with poverty.
- 51:29Speaker 1: What tends to do away with poverty is not the
- 51:31Speaker 1: getting of pictures of poverty into your mind, but getting
- 51:34Speaker 1: pictures of wealth into the minds of the poor. You
- 51:37Speaker 1: are not deserting the poor in their misery when you
- 51:40Speaker 1: refuse to allow your mind to be filled with pictures
- 51:42Speaker 1: of that misery. Poverty can be done away with not
- 51:46Speaker 1: by increasing the number of wealth to do people to
- 51:48Speaker 1: think about poverty, but by increasing the number of poor
- 51:51Speaker 1: people who purpose with faith to get rich. The poor
- 51:55Speaker 1: do not need charity, they need inspiration. Charity only sends
- 51:59Speaker 1: them a loaf of bread to keep them alive in
- 52:01Speaker 1: their wretchedness, or gives them an entertainment to make them
- 52:05Speaker 1: forget for an hour or two. But inspiration will cause
- 52:08Speaker 1: them to rise out of their misery. If you want
- 52:11Speaker 1: to help the poor, demonstrate to them that they can
- 52:13Speaker 1: become rich. Prove it by getting rich yourself. The only
- 52:18Speaker 1: way in which poverty will ever be banished from this
- 52:20Speaker 1: world is by getting a lodge and constantly increasing number
- 52:23Speaker 1: of people to practice the teaching of this book. People
- 52:26Speaker 1: must be taught to become rich by creation, not by competition.
- 52:31Speaker 1: Every man who becomes rich by competition throws down behind
- 52:35Speaker 1: him the latter by which he rises, and gives others down.
- 52:38Speaker 1: But every man who gets rich by creation, opens away
- 52:42Speaker 1: four thousands to follow him, and inspires them to do so.
- 52:45Speaker 1: You are not showing hardness of heart or an unfeeling
- 52:48Speaker 1: disposition when you refuse to pity poverty. See poverty, read
- 52:52Speaker 1: about poverty, or think and talk about it, or to
- 52:56Speaker 1: listen to those who do talk about it. Use your
- 52:59Speaker 1: will power to keep keep your mind of the subject
- 53:01Speaker 1: of poverty, and to keep it fixed with faith and
- 53:04Speaker 1: purpose on the vision of what you want, increasing life.
- 53:09Speaker 1: You must get rid of the last vestige of the
- 53:11Speaker 1: old idea that there is a deity whose will it
- 53:14Speaker 1: is that you should be poor, or whose purposes may
- 53:17Speaker 1: be served by keeping you in poverty. The intelligent substance,
- 53:20Speaker 1: which is all and in all, and which lives in
- 53:23Speaker 1: all and lives in you, is a consciously living substance.
- 53:27Speaker 1: Being a consciously living substance, it must have the nature
- 53:30Speaker 1: and inherent desire of every living intelligence for increase of life.
- 53:34Speaker 1: Every living thing must continually seek for the enlargement of
- 53:38Speaker 1: its life, because life, in the mere act of living,
- 53:41Speaker 1: must increase itself. A seed dropped into the ground springs
- 53:46Speaker 1: into activity, and in the act of living, produces a
- 53:49Speaker 1: hundred more seeds life. By living, multiplies itself. It is
- 53:53Speaker 1: forever becoming more. It must do so if it continues
- 53:57Speaker 1: to be at all. Intelligence is under the same necessity
- 54:00Speaker 1: for continuous increase. Every thought we think makes it necessary
- 54:05Speaker 1: for us to think another thought. Consciousness is continually expanding.
- 54:10Speaker 1: Every fact we learn leads us to the learning of
- 54:12Speaker 1: another fact. Knowledge is continually increasing. Every talent we cultivate
- 54:18Speaker 1: brings to the mind a desire to cultivate another talent.
- 54:22Speaker 1: We are subject to the urge of life seeking expression,
- 54:25Speaker 1: whichever drives us on to know more, to do more,
- 54:28Speaker 1: and to be more. In order to know more, do more,
- 54:32Speaker 1: and be more, we must have more. We must have
- 54:35Speaker 1: things to use, for we learn and do and become
- 54:38Speaker 1: only by using things. We must get rich so that
- 54:42Speaker 1: we can live more. The desire for riches is simply
- 54:46Speaker 1: the capacity for larger life seeking fulfillment. Every desire is
- 54:50Speaker 1: the effort of an unexpressed possibility to come into action.
- 54:54Speaker 1: It is power seeking to manifest which causes desire. That
- 54:58Speaker 1: which makes you want more money is the same as
- 55:01Speaker 1: that which makes the plant grow. It is life seeking
- 55:04Speaker 1: fuller expression. The one living substance must be subject to
- 55:08Speaker 1: this inherent love of all life. It is permitted with
- 55:11Speaker 1: the desire to live more. That is why it is
- 55:14Speaker 1: under the necessity of creating things. The one substance desires
- 55:18Speaker 1: to live more in you. Hence it wants you to
- 55:21Speaker 1: have all the things you can use. It is a
- 55:24Speaker 1: desire of God that you should get rich. He wants
- 55:26Speaker 1: you to get rich because he can express himself better
- 55:29Speaker 1: through you. If you have plenty of things to use.
- 55:32Speaker 1: In giving him expression, he can live more in you.
- 55:35Speaker 1: If you have unlimited command of the means of life.
- 55:38Speaker 1: The universe desires you to have everything you want to have.
- 55:42Speaker 1: Nature is friendly to your plans. Everything is naturally for you.
- 55:47Speaker 1: Make up your mind that this is true. It is essential, however,
- 55:51Speaker 1: that your purpose should harmonize with the purpose that is
- 55:54Speaker 1: in all. You must want real life, not mere pleasure
- 55:57Speaker 1: of sensual gratification. Life is the performance of function, and
- 56:02Speaker 1: the individual really lives only when he performs every function physical, mental,
- 56:07Speaker 1: and spiritual, of which he is capable, without excess. In
- 56:10Speaker 1: any You do not want to get rich in order
- 56:13Speaker 1: to live swinishly for the gratification of animal desires. That
- 56:17Speaker 1: is not life. But the performance of every physical function
- 56:20Speaker 1: is a part of life, and no one lives completely
- 56:23Speaker 1: who denies the impulses of the body a normal and
- 56:26Speaker 1: healthful expression. You do not want to get rich solely
- 56:30Speaker 1: to enjoy mental pleasures. To get knowledge, to gratify ambition,
- 56:34Speaker 1: to outshine others, to be famous. All these are legitimate
- 56:38Speaker 1: part of life. But the man who lives for the
- 56:40Speaker 1: pleasures of the intellect alone will only have a partial life,
- 56:44Speaker 1: and he will never be satisfied with his lot. You
- 56:47Speaker 1: do not want to get rich solely for the good
- 56:49Speaker 1: of others, to lose yourself for the salvation of mankind,
- 56:53Speaker 1: to experience the choice of philanthropy and sacrifice. The joys
- 56:57Speaker 1: of the soul are only a part of life, and
- 56:59Speaker 1: they are no better nor nobler than any other part.
- 57:04Speaker 1: You want to get rich in order that you may eat, drink,
- 57:07Speaker 1: and be merry when it is time to do these things.
- 57:10Speaker 1: In order that you may surround yourself with beautiful things
- 57:13Speaker 1: see distant lands, feed your mind and develop your intellect,
- 57:17Speaker 1: in order that you may love man and do kind things,
- 57:20Speaker 1: and be able to play a good part in helping
- 57:22Speaker 1: the world to find truth. But remember that extreme altruism
- 57:27Speaker 1: is no better nor nobler than extreme selfishness. Both are mistakes.
- 57:32Speaker 1: Get rid of the idea that God wants you to
- 57:34Speaker 1: sacrifice yourself for others, and that you can secure his
- 57:37Speaker 1: favor by doing so. God requires nothing of the kind.
- 57:41Speaker 1: What he wants you is that you should make the
- 57:44Speaker 1: most of yourself for yourself and for others. And you
- 57:47Speaker 1: can help others more by making the most of yourself
- 57:50Speaker 1: than in any other way. You can make the most
- 57:52Speaker 1: of yourself only by getting rich. So it is right
- 57:55Speaker 1: and praiseworthy that you should give your first and best
- 57:58Speaker 1: thought to the work of a quieting wealth. Remember, however,
- 58:02Speaker 1: that the desire of substance is for all, and its
- 58:05Speaker 1: movements must be for more life to all. It cannot
- 58:08Speaker 1: be made to work for less life to any, because
- 58:11Speaker 1: it is equally in all seeking riches and life. Intelligent
- 58:15Speaker 1: substance will make things for you, but it will not
- 58:18Speaker 1: take things away from some one else and give them
- 58:20Speaker 1: to you. You must get rid of the thought of competition.
- 58:24Speaker 1: You are to create, not to compete for what is
- 58:27Speaker 1: already created. You do not have to take anything from
- 58:30Speaker 1: any one. You do not have to drive sharp bargains.
- 58:34Speaker 1: You do not have to cheat or to take advantage.
- 58:37Speaker 1: You do not need to let any man work for
- 58:39Speaker 1: you for less than he earns. You do not have
- 58:43Speaker 1: to covert the property of others, or to look at
- 58:45Speaker 1: it with wistful eyes. No man has anything of which
- 58:48Speaker 1: you cannot have the like, and that without taking what
- 58:51Speaker 1: he has away from him, you are to become a creator,
- 58:55Speaker 1: not a competitor. You are going to get what you want,
- 58:58Speaker 1: but in such a way that when you get it,
- 59:00Speaker 1: every other man will have more than he has. Now.
- 59:03Speaker 1: I am aware that there are men who get a
- 59:05Speaker 1: vast amount of money by proceeding in direct opposition to
- 59:08Speaker 1: the statements in the paragraph above, and may add a
- 59:11Speaker 1: word of explanation here. Men of the plutocratic type who
- 59:15Speaker 1: become very rich do so sometimes purely by their extraordinary
- 59:19Speaker 1: ability on the plane of competition, and sometimes they unconsciously
- 59:23Speaker 1: relate themselves to Substance in its great purposes and movements
- 59:26Speaker 1: for the general racial of bailing through industrial evolution, Rockefeller, Carnegie, Morgan,
- 59:33Speaker 1: and others have been the unconscious agents of the Supreme
- 59:35Speaker 1: in the necessary work of systematizing and organizing productive industry,
- 59:40Speaker 1: and in the end their work will contribute immensely toward
- 59:43Speaker 1: increased life for all their day is nearly over. They
- 59:47Speaker 1: have organized production and will soon be succeeded by the
- 59:50Speaker 1: agents of the multitude, who will organize the machinery of distribution.
- 59:55Speaker 1: The multi millionaires are like the monster reptiles of the
- 59:58Speaker 1: prehistoric eras they play a necessary part in the evolutionary process.
- 1:00:03Speaker 1: But the same power which produce them will dispose of them.
- 1:00:06Speaker 1: And it is well to bear in mind that they
- 1:00:09Speaker 1: have never been really rich. A record of the private
- 1:00:12Speaker 1: lives of most of this class will show that they
- 1:00:14Speaker 1: have really been the most abject and wretched of the poor.
- 1:00:18Speaker 1: Riches secured on the competitive plain are never satisfactory and permanent.
- 1:00:22Speaker 1: They are yours to day and anothers tomorrow. Remember, if
- 1:00:26Speaker 1: you are to become rich in a scientific and certain way,
- 1:00:29Speaker 1: you must trice entirely out of the competitive thought. You
- 1:00:33Speaker 1: must never think for a moment that the supply is limited.
- 1:00:36Speaker 1: Just as soon as you begin to think that all
- 1:00:38Speaker 1: the money is being cornered and controlled by bankers and others,
- 1:00:42Speaker 1: and that you must exert yourself to get laws past
- 1:00:45Speaker 1: to stop this process, and so on, in that moment
- 1:00:48Speaker 1: you drop into the competitive mind, and your power to
- 1:00:51Speaker 1: cause creation is gone for the time being, and what
- 1:00:54Speaker 1: is worse, you will probably arrest the creative movements you
- 1:00:57Speaker 1: have already instituted. Know that there are countless millions of
- 1:01:01Speaker 1: dollars worth of gold in the mountains of the earth
- 1:01:04Speaker 1: not yet brought to light, and know that if there
- 1:01:06Speaker 1: were not, more would be created from thinking substance to
- 1:01:10Speaker 1: supply your needs. Know that the money you need will come,
- 1:01:13Speaker 1: even if it is necessary for a thousand men to
- 1:01:16Speaker 1: be led to the discovery of new gold mines tomorrow.
- 1:01:19Speaker 1: Never look at the visible supply. Look always at the
- 1:01:22Speaker 1: limitless riches in formless substance, and know that they are
- 1:01:25Speaker 1: coming to you as fast as you can receive and
- 1:01:28Speaker 1: use them. Nobody by cornering the visible supply can prevent
- 1:01:32Speaker 1: you from getting what is yours. So never allow yourself
- 1:01:36Speaker 1: to think for an instant that all the best building
- 1:01:39Speaker 1: spots will be taken before you get ready to build
- 1:01:41Speaker 1: your house unless you hurry. Never worry about the trust
- 1:01:45Speaker 1: and combines and get anxious for fear they will soon
- 1:01:48Speaker 1: come to own the whole earth. Never get afraid that
- 1:01:51Speaker 1: you will lose what you want because some other person
- 1:01:53Speaker 1: beats you to it. That cannot possibly happen. You are
- 1:01:57Speaker 1: not seeking anything that is possessed by anybody else. You
- 1:02:00Speaker 1: are causing what you want to be created from formless substance,
- 1:02:03Speaker 1: and the supplies without limits. Stick to the formulated statement.
- 1:02:08Speaker 1: There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
- 1:02:11Speaker 1: and which, in his original state, permeits, penetrates, and fills
- 1:02:15Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
- 1:02:19Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
- 1:02:22Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
- 1:02:25Speaker 1: thought upon form with substance, can cause the thing he
- 1:02:28Speaker 1: thinks about to be created. Is opportunity monopolized. No man
- 1:02:34Speaker 1: is kept poor because opportunity has been taken away from him,
- 1:02:38Speaker 1: because other people have monopolized the wealth and have put
- 1:02:41Speaker 1: a fence around it. He may be shut off from
- 1:02:43Speaker 1: engaging in business in certain lines, but there are other
- 1:02:46Speaker 1: channels open to you. Probably it would be hard for
- 1:02:49Speaker 1: you to get control of any of the great railroad systems.
- 1:02:52Speaker 1: That field is pretty well monopolized. But the electric railway
- 1:02:56Speaker 1: business is still in its infancy and offers plenty of
- 1:02:59Speaker 1: scope for enterprise. And it will be but a few
- 1:03:02Speaker 1: years until traffic and transportation through the air will become
- 1:03:05Speaker 1: a great industry. And in all its branches will give
- 1:03:08Speaker 1: employment to hundreds of thousands, and perhaps millions of people.
- 1:03:12Speaker 1: Why not turn your attention to the development of aerial
- 1:03:15Speaker 1: transportation instead of competing with J. J. Hill and others
- 1:03:19Speaker 1: for a chance in the steam railway world. It is
- 1:03:22Speaker 1: quite true that if you are a workman in the
- 1:03:24Speaker 1: employe of the steel Trust, you have very little chance
- 1:03:27Speaker 1: of becoming the owner of the plant in which you work.
- 1:03:30Speaker 1: But it is also true that if you will commence
- 1:03:32Speaker 1: the act in a certain way, you can soon leave
- 1:03:34Speaker 1: the employee of the steel Trust. You can buy a
- 1:03:37Speaker 1: farm of from ten to forty acres and engage in
- 1:03:40Speaker 1: business as a producer of footstuffs. There is great opportunity
- 1:03:44Speaker 1: at this time for men who will live upon small
- 1:03:46Speaker 1: tracts of land and cultivate the same intensively. Such men
- 1:03:50Speaker 1: will certainly get rich. You may say that it is
- 1:03:53Speaker 1: impossible for you to get the land, but I am
- 1:03:55Speaker 1: going to prove to you that it is not impossible,
- 1:03:58Speaker 1: and that you can certainly get a farm if you
- 1:04:00Speaker 1: will go to work in a certain way. At different periods,
- 1:04:03Speaker 1: the tide of opportunity sets in different directions according to
- 1:04:07Speaker 1: the needs of the whole and the particular state of
- 1:04:10Speaker 1: social evolution which has been reached at present in America,
- 1:04:14Speaker 1: it is setting toward agriculture and the allied industries and professions. Today,
- 1:04:19Speaker 1: opportunities open before the factory worker in his line. It
- 1:04:23Speaker 1: is open before the business man who supplies the farmer
- 1:04:26Speaker 1: more than before the one who supplies the factory worker,
- 1:04:29Speaker 1: and before the professional man who waits upon the farmer
- 1:04:31Speaker 1: more than before the one who serves the working class.
- 1:04:35Speaker 1: There is abundance of opportunity for the man who will
- 1:04:37Speaker 1: go with the tide instead of trying to swim against it.
- 1:04:41Speaker 1: So the factory workers, either as individuals or as a class,
- 1:04:45Speaker 1: are not deprived of opportunity. The workers are not being
- 1:04:48Speaker 1: kept down by their masters, They are not being ground
- 1:04:51Speaker 1: by the trusts and combinations of capital. As a class.
- 1:04:55Speaker 1: They are where they are because they do not do
- 1:04:57Speaker 1: things in a certain way. If the workers of a
- 1:04:59Speaker 1: man Erica chose to do so, they could follow the
- 1:05:02Speaker 1: example of their brothers in Belgium and other countries and
- 1:05:05Speaker 1: establish great department stores and co operative industries. They could
- 1:05:10Speaker 1: lact men of their own class to office and past
- 1:05:13Speaker 1: laws favoring the development of such cooperative industries, and in
- 1:05:16Speaker 1: a few years they could take peaceable possession of the
- 1:05:19Speaker 1: industrial field. The working class may become the master class
- 1:05:24Speaker 1: whenever they will begin to do things in a certain way.
- 1:05:27Speaker 1: The law of wealth is the same for them as
- 1:05:29Speaker 1: it is for all others. This they must learn, and
- 1:05:33Speaker 1: they will remain where they are as long as they
- 1:05:35Speaker 1: continue to do as they do. The individual worker, however,
- 1:05:39Speaker 1: is not held down by the ignorance or the mental
- 1:05:42Speaker 1: slothfulness of his class. He can follow the tide of
- 1:05:45Speaker 1: opportunity to riches. And this book will tell them how
- 1:05:49Speaker 1: no one is kept in poverty by a shortness in
- 1:05:52Speaker 1: the supply of riches. There is more than enough for all.
- 1:05:55Speaker 1: A palace as large as the capital at Washington might
- 1:05:58Speaker 1: be built for every family on Earth. From the building
- 1:06:00Speaker 1: material in the United States alone, and under intensive cultivation,
- 1:06:05Speaker 1: this country would produce wool, cotton, linen, and silk enough
- 1:06:08Speaker 1: to cloth each person in the word finer than Solomon
- 1:06:11Speaker 1: was a rate in all his glory, together with food
- 1:06:14Speaker 1: enough to feed them all luxuriously. The visible supply is
- 1:06:18Speaker 1: practically inexhaustible, and the invisible supply really is inexhaustible. Everything
- 1:06:23Speaker 1: you see on earth is made from one original substance
- 1:06:26Speaker 1: out of which all things proceed. New forms are constantly
- 1:06:31Speaker 1: being made, and other ones are dissolving, but all are
- 1:06:34Speaker 1: shapes assumed by one thing. There is no limit to
- 1:06:38Speaker 1: the supply of formless stuff or original substance. The universe
- 1:06:43Speaker 1: is made out of it, but it is not all use.
- 1:06:45Speaker 1: In making the universe. The spaces in, through and between
- 1:06:49Speaker 1: the forms of the visible universe are permitted and filled
- 1:06:52Speaker 1: with the original substance, with the formless stuff. With the
- 1:06:55Speaker 1: raw material of all things, ten thousand times as much
- 1:06:59Speaker 1: as has been made might still be made, and even
- 1:07:02Speaker 1: then we should not have exhausted the supply of universal
- 1:07:04Speaker 1: raw material. No man therefore is poor because nature is poor,
- 1:07:09Speaker 1: or because there is not enough to go round. Nature
- 1:07:12Speaker 1: is an inexhaustible storehouse of riches. The supply will never
- 1:07:16Speaker 1: run short. Original substance is alive with creative energy, and
- 1:07:20Speaker 1: is constantly producing more forms. When the supply of building
- 1:07:24Speaker 1: material is exhausted, more will be produced. When the soil
- 1:07:28Speaker 1: is exhausted, so that food stuffs and materials for clothing
- 1:07:31Speaker 1: will no longer grow upon it, it will be renewed,
- 1:07:34Speaker 1: or more soil will be made. When all the gold
- 1:07:37Speaker 1: and silver has been dug from the earth. If man
- 1:07:40Speaker 1: is still in such a state of social development that
- 1:07:42Speaker 1: he needs gold and silver, more will be produced from
- 1:07:45Speaker 1: the formless. The formless stuff responds to the needs of man.
- 1:07:49Speaker 1: It will not let him be without any good thing.
- 1:07:53Speaker 1: This is true of man collectively. The race as a
- 1:07:56Speaker 1: whole is always abundantly rich, and if individuals are poor,
- 1:07:59Speaker 1: it is because they do not follow the certain way
- 1:08:02Speaker 1: of doing things which makes the individual man rich. The
- 1:08:06Speaker 1: formless tough is intelligent. It is tough which thinks it
- 1:08:10Speaker 1: is alife, and is always impelled toward more life. It
- 1:08:14Speaker 1: is the natural and inherent impulse of life to seek
- 1:08:16Speaker 1: to live more. It is a nature of intelligence to
- 1:08:19Speaker 1: enlarge itself, and of consciousness to seek to extend its
- 1:08:23Speaker 1: boundaries and find fuller expression. The universe of forms has
- 1:08:27Speaker 1: been made by formless, living substance throwing itself into form
- 1:08:31Speaker 1: in order to express itself more fully. The universe is
- 1:08:35Speaker 1: a great, living presence, always moving inherently toward more life
- 1:08:39Speaker 1: and fuller functioning. Nature is formed for the advancement of life.
- 1:08:43Speaker 1: Its impelling motive is the increase of life. For this cause,
- 1:08:47Speaker 1: everything which can possibly minister to life is bountifully provided.
- 1:08:52Speaker 1: There can be no lack unless God is to contradict
- 1:08:54Speaker 1: himself and nullify his own works. You are not kept
- 1:08:58Speaker 1: poor by lacking the supply of riches. It is a
- 1:09:01Speaker 1: fact that I shall demonstrate a little farther on, that
- 1:09:04Speaker 1: even the resources of the formless supply are at the
- 1:09:07Speaker 1: command of the man or woman who elect and think
- 1:09:09Speaker 1: in a certain way. Preface. This book is pragmatical, not philosophical,
- 1:09:16Speaker 1: practical manual, not a treatise upon theories. It is intended
- 1:09:20Speaker 1: for the man and women whose most pressing needs for money,
- 1:09:23Speaker 1: who wish to get rich first, and philosophies afterward. It
- 1:09:27Speaker 1: is for those who have so far found neither the time,
- 1:09:30Speaker 1: the means, nor the opportunity to go deeply into the
- 1:09:33Speaker 1: study of metaphysics, but who want results, and who are
- 1:09:36Speaker 1: willing to take the conclusions of science as a basis
- 1:09:39Speaker 1: for action, without going into all the processes by which
- 1:09:42Speaker 1: those conclusions were reached. It is expected that the reader
- 1:09:46Speaker 1: will take the fundamental statements upon faith, just as he
- 1:09:49Speaker 1: would take statements concerning a law of electrical action if
- 1:09:52Speaker 1: they were promulgated by a Marconi or an Edison, and
- 1:09:56Speaker 1: taking the statements upon faith that He will prove their
- 1:09:59Speaker 1: truth truth by acting upon them without fear or hesitation.
- 1:10:03Speaker 1: Every man or woman who does this will certainly get rich.
- 1:10:07Speaker 1: For the science herein applied is an exact science, and
- 1:10:10Speaker 1: failure is impossible. For the benefit, however, of those who
- 1:10:14Speaker 1: wish to investigate philosophical theories in so secure a logical
- 1:10:18Speaker 1: basis of faith, I will hear cite certain authorities the
- 1:10:22Speaker 1: menistic theory of the universe, the theory that one is
- 1:10:25Speaker 1: all and at all is one, that one's substance manifests
- 1:10:29Speaker 1: itself as the seeming in many elements of the material.
- 1:10:32Speaker 1: Word is of Hindu origin and has been gradually winning
- 1:10:35Speaker 1: its way into the thought of the Western world for
- 1:10:38Speaker 1: two hundred years. It is the foundation of all the
- 1:10:41Speaker 1: Oriential philosophies, and of those of Descartes, Spinoza, Leibnitz, Schopenhauer, Hegel,
- 1:10:47Speaker 1: and Emerson. The reader who would dig the philosophical foundations
- 1:10:50Speaker 1: of this is advised to read Hegel an Ammerson for himself.
- 1:10:55Speaker 1: In writing this book, I have sacrificed all other considerations
- 1:10:58Speaker 1: to plainness and simplicity of style, so that all might
- 1:11:01Speaker 1: understand the plan of action laid down herein was deduced
- 1:11:05Speaker 1: from the conclusions of philosophy. It has been thoroughly tested
- 1:11:08Speaker 1: and bears a supreme test of practical experiment. It works.
- 1:11:12Speaker 1: If you wish to know how the conclusions were riveted,
- 1:11:15Speaker 1: read the writings of the authors mentioned above, And if
- 1:11:18Speaker 1: you wish to reap the fruits of their philosophies in
- 1:11:20Speaker 1: actual practice, read this book and do exactly as it
- 1:11:24Speaker 1: tells you to do. The author end of the preface
- 1:11:29Speaker 1: some cautions and concluding observations. Many people will scoff at
- 1:11:34Speaker 1: the idea that there is an exact science of getting rich,
- 1:11:37Speaker 1: holding the impression that the supply of wealth is limited,
- 1:11:40Speaker 1: they will insist that social and governmental constitutions must be
- 1:11:44Speaker 1: changed before even any considerable number of people can acquire
- 1:11:48Speaker 1: a competence. But this is not true. It is true
- 1:11:51Speaker 1: that existing governments keep the masses in poverty, but this
- 1:11:55Speaker 1: is because the masses do not think and act in
- 1:11:57Speaker 1: a certain way. If the masses begin to move forward,
- 1:12:01Speaker 1: as suggested in this book, neither governments nor industrial systems
- 1:12:05Speaker 1: can check them. All systems must be modified to accommodate
- 1:12:09Speaker 1: the forward movement. If the people have the advancing mind,
- 1:12:13Speaker 1: have the faith that they can become rich and move
- 1:12:15Speaker 1: forward with the fixed purpose to become rich, nothing can
- 1:12:18Speaker 1: possibly keep them in poverty. Individuals may enter upon a
- 1:12:23Speaker 1: certain way, at any time, and under any government, and
- 1:12:26Speaker 1: make themselves rich. And when any considerable number of individuals
- 1:12:30Speaker 1: do so under any government, they will cause the system
- 1:12:32Speaker 1: to be so modified as to open the way for others.
- 1:12:36Speaker 1: The more men who get rich on the competitive plane,
- 1:12:39Speaker 1: the worse for others, and more who get rich in
- 1:12:41Speaker 1: the creative plane, the better for others. The economic salvation
- 1:12:46Speaker 1: of the masses can only be accomplished by getting a
- 1:12:48Speaker 1: large number of people to practice the scientific method set
- 1:12:51Speaker 1: down in this book and become rich. These will show
- 1:12:55Speaker 1: others the way and inspire them with the desire for
- 1:12:58Speaker 1: real life, with the faith that can be attained, and
- 1:13:01Speaker 1: with the purpose to attain it. For the present, however,
- 1:13:04Speaker 1: it is enough to know that neither the government under
- 1:13:07Speaker 1: which you live, nor the capitalistic or competitive system of
- 1:13:10Speaker 1: industry can keep you from getting rich. When you enter
- 1:13:13Speaker 1: upon the creative plane of thought, you will rise above
- 1:13:16Speaker 1: all these things and become a citizen of another kingdom.
- 1:13:20Speaker 1: But remember that your thought must be held upon the
- 1:13:22Speaker 1: creative plane. You are never for an instant to be
- 1:13:25Speaker 1: betrayed into regarding the supply as limited, or into acting
- 1:13:29Speaker 1: on the moral level of competition. Whenever you do fall
- 1:13:33Speaker 1: into old ways of thought, correct yourself instantly, for when
- 1:13:37Speaker 1: you are in the competitive mind, you have lost a
- 1:13:39Speaker 1: co operation of the mind of the whole. Do not
- 1:13:42Speaker 1: spend any time in planning as to how you will
- 1:13:45Speaker 1: meet possible emergencies in the future, except as the necessary
- 1:13:48Speaker 1: policies may affect your actions to day. You are concerned
- 1:13:52Speaker 1: with doing to day's work in a perfectly successful manner,
- 1:13:55Speaker 1: and not with emergencies which may arise to morrow. You
- 1:13:57Speaker 1: can attend to them as they come. Do not concern
- 1:14:00Speaker 1: yourself with questions as to how you shall surmount obstacles
- 1:14:04Speaker 1: which may loom upon your business horizon, unless you see
- 1:14:07Speaker 1: plainly that your course must be altered to day in
- 1:14:10Speaker 1: order to avoid them. No matter how tremendous an obstruction
- 1:14:13Speaker 1: may appear at the distance, you will find that if
- 1:14:16Speaker 1: you go in a certain way, it will disappear as
- 1:14:18Speaker 1: you approach it orde away, over, through, or around it
- 1:14:22Speaker 1: will appear. No possible combination of circumstances can defeat a
- 1:14:26Speaker 1: man or woman who is proceeding to get rich along
- 1:14:29Speaker 1: strictly scientific lines. No man or woman who obeys the
- 1:14:33Speaker 1: law can fail to get rich any more than one
- 1:14:36Speaker 1: can multiply two by two and fail to get four.
- 1:14:39Speaker 1: Give no anxious thought to possible disasters, obstacles, panics, or
- 1:14:43Speaker 1: unfavorable combinations of circumstances. It is time enough to meet
- 1:14:47Speaker 1: such things as they present themselves before you in the
- 1:14:50Speaker 1: immediate present, and you will find that every difficulty carries
- 1:14:54Speaker 1: with it the wherewithal for its overcoming. Guard your speech.
- 1:14:58Speaker 1: Never speak of yourself, your affair, or of anything else
- 1:15:01Speaker 1: in a discouraged or discouraging way. Never admit the possibility
- 1:15:05Speaker 1: of failure, or speak in a way that infers failure
- 1:15:08Speaker 1: as a possibility. Never speak of the times as being hard,
- 1:15:13Speaker 1: or of business conditions as being doubtful. Times may be
- 1:15:16Speaker 1: hard and business doubtful for those who are on the
- 1:15:19Speaker 1: competitive plane, but they can never be so for you.
- 1:15:22Speaker 1: You can create what you want, and you are above fear.
- 1:15:26Speaker 1: When others are having hard times and poor business, you
- 1:15:29Speaker 1: will find your greatest opportunities. Train yourself to think of
- 1:15:33Speaker 1: and to look upon the world as something which is becoming,
- 1:15:36Speaker 1: which is growing, and to regard something evil as being
- 1:15:39Speaker 1: only that which is undeveloped. Always speak in terms of advancement.
- 1:15:44Speaker 1: To do otherwise is to deny your faith, and to
- 1:15:47Speaker 1: deny your faith is to lose it. Never allow yourself
- 1:15:51Speaker 1: to feel disappointed. You may expect to have a certain
- 1:15:54Speaker 1: thing at a certain time and not get it at
- 1:15:56Speaker 1: that time, and this will appear to you like failure.
- 1:16:00Speaker 1: But if you hold to your faith, you will find
- 1:16:03Speaker 1: that the failure is only apparent. Go on in a
- 1:16:06Speaker 1: certain way, and if you do not receive that thing,
- 1:16:09Speaker 1: you will receive something so much better that you will
- 1:16:11Speaker 1: see that the seeming failure was really a great success.
- 1:16:15Speaker 1: A student in this science had set his mind on
- 1:16:17Speaker 1: making a certain business combination, which seemed to him at
- 1:16:20Speaker 1: the time to be very desirable, and he worked for
- 1:16:23Speaker 1: some weeks to bring it about. When the crucial time came,
- 1:16:27Speaker 1: the thing failed in a perfectly inexplicable way. It was
- 1:16:31Speaker 1: as if some unseen influence had been working secretly against him.
- 1:16:35Speaker 1: He was not disappointed. On the contrary, he thanked God
- 1:16:38Speaker 1: that his desire had been overruled, and went steadily on
- 1:16:42Speaker 1: with a grateful mind. In a few weeks, an opportunity
- 1:16:45Speaker 1: so much better came his way that he would not
- 1:16:48Speaker 1: have made the first deal on any account. And he
- 1:16:51Speaker 1: saw that a mind which knew more than he knew,
- 1:16:53Speaker 1: had prevented him from losing the greater good by entangling
- 1:16:57Speaker 1: himself with the lesser. That is the way, ever, esteeming
- 1:17:00Speaker 1: failure will work out for you if you keep your faith,
- 1:17:03Speaker 1: all to your purpose, have gratitude, and do every day
- 1:17:07Speaker 1: all that can be done that day, doing each separate
- 1:17:10Speaker 1: act in a successful manner. When you make a failure,
- 1:17:14Speaker 1: it is because you have not asked for enough. Keep on,
- 1:17:17Speaker 1: and the larger thing than you are asking will certainly
- 1:17:19Speaker 1: come to you. Remember this. You will not fail because
- 1:17:23Speaker 1: you lack the necessary talent to do what you wish
- 1:17:25Speaker 1: to do. If you go on as I have directed,
- 1:17:28Speaker 1: you will develop all that talent that is necessary for
- 1:17:31Speaker 1: the doing of your work. It is not within the
- 1:17:34Speaker 1: scope of this book to deal with the science of
- 1:17:36Speaker 1: cultivating talent, but it is as certain and simple as
- 1:17:39Speaker 1: the process of getting rich. However, do not hesitate or
- 1:17:43Speaker 1: wavor for fear when you come to any certain place
- 1:17:46Speaker 1: you will fail for lack of ability. Keep right on,
- 1:17:49Speaker 1: and when you come to that place, the ability will
- 1:17:51Speaker 1: be furnished for you. The same source of ability which
- 1:17:54Speaker 1: enable the untaught Lincoln to do the greatest working government
- 1:17:58Speaker 1: ever accomplished by a single man, is open to you.
- 1:18:00Speaker 1: You may draw upon all the mind there is for
- 1:18:03Speaker 1: wisdom to use in meeting the responsibilities which are laid
- 1:18:06Speaker 1: upon you. Go on in full faith study this book,
- 1:18:11Speaker 1: make it your constant companion until you have mastered all
- 1:18:14Speaker 1: the ideas contained in it. While you are getting firmly
- 1:18:17Speaker 1: established in this faith, you will do well to give
- 1:18:19Speaker 1: up most recreations and pleasure, and to stay away from
- 1:18:23Speaker 1: places where ideas conflicting with these are advanced in lectures
- 1:18:26Speaker 1: or sermons. Do not read pessimistic or conflicting literature, or
- 1:18:31Speaker 1: get into your arguments upon the matter. Do very little
- 1:18:35Speaker 1: reading outside of the writers mentioned in the preface. Spend
- 1:18:39Speaker 1: most of your leisure time in contemplating your vision and
- 1:18:42Speaker 1: in cultivating gratitude, and in reading this book. It contains
- 1:18:46Speaker 1: all you need to know of the science of getting rich,
- 1:18:48Speaker 1: and you will find all the essentials summed up in
- 1:18:51Speaker 1: the following chapter Summary of the Science of Getting Rich.
- 1:18:56Speaker 1: There is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
- 1:18:59Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and fills
- 1:19:03Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
- 1:19:07Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
- 1:19:10Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
- 1:19:14Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance, can cause the thing he thinks
- 1:19:17Speaker 1: about to be created. In order to do this, man
- 1:19:20Speaker 1: must pass from the competitive to the creative mind, otherwise
- 1:19:24Speaker 1: he cannot be in harmony with the formless intelligence, which
- 1:19:27Speaker 1: is always creative and ever competitive in spirit. Man may
- 1:19:31Speaker 1: come into full harmony with the formless substance by entertaining
- 1:19:35Speaker 1: a lively and sincere gratitude for the blessings it bestows
- 1:19:38Speaker 1: upon him. Gratitude unifies the mind of man with the
- 1:19:41Speaker 1: intelligence of substance, so that man's thoughts are received by
- 1:19:45Speaker 1: the formness. Man can remain upon the creative plain only
- 1:19:49Speaker 1: by uniting himself with the formless intelligence through a deep
- 1:19:52Speaker 1: and continuous feeling of gratitude. Man must form a clear
- 1:19:56Speaker 1: and definite mental image of the things he wishes to have,
- 1:19:59Speaker 1: to do, or to become, and he must hold this
- 1:20:02Speaker 1: mental image in his thoughts while being deeply grateful to
- 1:20:05Speaker 1: the Supreme that all he desires are granted to him.
- 1:20:09Speaker 1: The man who wishes to get rich must spend his
- 1:20:11Speaker 1: leisure hours in contemplating his vision and in earnest thanksgiving
- 1:20:16Speaker 1: that the reality is being given to him. Too much
- 1:20:19Speaker 1: stress cannot be laid on the importance of frequent contemplation
- 1:20:22Speaker 1: of the mental image, coupled with unwavoring faith and devout gratitude.
- 1:20:27Speaker 1: This is the process by which the impression is given
- 1:20:30Speaker 1: to the formness and the creative forces set in motion.
- 1:20:34Speaker 1: The creative energy works through the established channels of natural
- 1:20:37Speaker 1: growth and of the industrial and social order. All that
- 1:20:41Speaker 1: is included in his mental image will surely be brought
- 1:20:43Speaker 1: to The man who follows the instructions given above, and
- 1:20:47Speaker 1: whose faith does not favor what he wants will come
- 1:20:50Speaker 1: to him through the ways of established trade and commerce.
- 1:20:54Speaker 1: In order to receive his own when it shall come
- 1:20:56Speaker 1: to him, man must be active, and this activity can
- 1:20:59Speaker 1: only consists in more than filling his present place. He
- 1:21:03Speaker 1: must keep in mind the purpose to get rich through
- 1:21:05Speaker 1: the realization of his mental image, and he must do
- 1:21:09Speaker 1: every day all that can be done that day, taking
- 1:21:12Speaker 1: care to do each act in a successful manner. He
- 1:21:15Speaker 1: must give to every man a use value in excess
- 1:21:17Speaker 1: of the cash value he receives, so that each transaction
- 1:21:20Speaker 1: makes for more life, and he must so hold the
- 1:21:23Speaker 1: advancing thought that the impression of increase will be communicated
- 1:21:27Speaker 1: to all with whom he comes in contact. The man
- 1:21:30Speaker 1: and women who practice the foregoing instructions will certainly get rich,
- 1:21:34Speaker 1: and the riches they receive will be in exact proportion
- 1:21:37Speaker 1: to the definiteness of their vision, the fixity of their purpose,
- 1:21:41Speaker 1: the steadiness of their faith, and the depth of their
- 1:21:44Speaker 1: gratitude the advancing man. What I have said in the
- 1:21:48Speaker 1: last chapter applies as well to the professional man and
- 1:21:51Speaker 1: the wage eourner, as to the man who is engaged
- 1:21:54Speaker 1: in mercantile business. No matter whether you are a physician,
- 1:21:58Speaker 1: a teacher, or a clergyman, if you can give increase
- 1:22:01Speaker 1: of life to others and make them sensible of the fact,
- 1:22:04Speaker 1: they will be attracted to you, and you will get rich.
- 1:22:07Speaker 1: The physician who holds the vision of himself as a
- 1:22:10Speaker 1: great and successful healer, and who works toward a complete
- 1:22:13Speaker 1: realization of that vision with faith and purpose, as described
- 1:22:16Speaker 1: in the former chapters, will come into such close touch
- 1:22:19Speaker 1: with the source of life that he will be phenomenally successful.
- 1:22:23Speaker 1: Patience will come to him in throngs. No one has
- 1:22:26Speaker 1: a greater opportunity to carry into effects the teaching of
- 1:22:29Speaker 1: this book than the practitioner of medicine. It does not
- 1:22:33Speaker 1: matter to which of the various schools he may belong,
- 1:22:36Speaker 1: for the principle of healing is common to all of
- 1:22:38Speaker 1: them and may be reached by all alike. The advancing
- 1:22:42Speaker 1: man in medicine, who holds to a clear mental image
- 1:22:44Speaker 1: of himself as successful, and who obeys the laws of faith, purpose,
- 1:22:48Speaker 1: and gratitude, will cure every curable case he undertakes, no
- 1:22:53Speaker 1: matter what remedies he may use. In the field of religion,
- 1:22:57Speaker 1: the word cries out for the clergyman who can teach
- 1:22:59Speaker 1: his hero the true science of abundant life. He who
- 1:23:03Speaker 1: masters the details of the science of getting rich together
- 1:23:06Speaker 1: with allied sciences, of being well, of being great, and
- 1:23:09Speaker 1: of winning love, and who teaches these details from the pulpit,
- 1:23:13Speaker 1: will never lack for a congregation. This is the gospel
- 1:23:16Speaker 1: that the world needs. It will give increase of life,
- 1:23:19Speaker 1: and man will hear it gladly and will give liberal
- 1:23:22Speaker 1: support to the man who brings it to them. What
- 1:23:25Speaker 1: is now needed is the demonstration of science of life
- 1:23:28Speaker 1: from the pulpit. We want preachers who cannot only tell
- 1:23:32Speaker 1: us how, but who in their own persons will show
- 1:23:34Speaker 1: us how. We need the preacher who will himself be rich, healthy, great,
- 1:23:39Speaker 1: and beloved to teach us how to attain these things.
- 1:23:43Speaker 1: And when he comes he will find the numerous and
- 1:23:45Speaker 1: lawyal following. The same is true for the teacher, who
- 1:23:48Speaker 1: can inspire the children with the faith and purpose of
- 1:23:51Speaker 1: the advancing life, he will never be out of a job.
- 1:23:54Speaker 1: And any teacher who has this faith and purpose can
- 1:23:57Speaker 1: give it to his pupils. He cannot help giving it
- 1:24:00Speaker 1: to them if it is a part of his own
- 1:24:02Speaker 1: life and practice. What is true of the teacher, preacher,
- 1:24:06Speaker 1: and physician is true of the lawyer, dentist, real estatement,
- 1:24:09Speaker 1: insurance agent of everybody. The combined mental and personal action
- 1:24:14Speaker 1: I have described is infailable. It cannot fail. Every man
- 1:24:18Speaker 1: and woman who follows these instructions steadily, perseveringly, and to
- 1:24:22Speaker 1: the latter will get rich. The law of the increase
- 1:24:25Speaker 1: of life is as mathematically certain in its operation as
- 1:24:29Speaker 1: the law of gravitation. Getting rich is an exact science.
- 1:24:34Speaker 1: The wage journer will find this as true of his
- 1:24:36Speaker 1: case as of any of the others mentioned do not
- 1:24:39Speaker 1: feel that you have no chance to get rich because
- 1:24:42Speaker 1: you are working where there is no visible opportunity for advancement,
- 1:24:45Speaker 1: where riches are small and the cost of living high.
- 1:24:49Speaker 1: Form your clear mental vision of what you want, and
- 1:24:51Speaker 1: begin to act with faith and purpose. Do all the
- 1:24:55Speaker 1: work you can do every day, and do each piece
- 1:24:58Speaker 1: of work in a perfectly successful manner. Put the power
- 1:25:01Speaker 1: of success and the purpose to get rich into everything
- 1:25:04Speaker 1: that you do. But do not do this merely with
- 1:25:07Speaker 1: the idea of carrying favor with your employer in the
- 1:25:10Speaker 1: hope that he or those above you will see your
- 1:25:12Speaker 1: good work and advance you. It is not likely that
- 1:25:15Speaker 1: they will do so. The man who is merely a
- 1:25:18Speaker 1: good workman, feeling his place the very best of his
- 1:25:21Speaker 1: ability and satisfied with that, is valuable to his employer,
- 1:25:25Speaker 1: and it is not to the employer's interest to promote him.
- 1:25:28Speaker 1: He is worth more where he is. To secure advancement,
- 1:25:32Speaker 1: something more is necessary than to be too large for
- 1:25:34Speaker 1: your place. The man who is certain to advance is
- 1:25:38Speaker 1: the one who is too big for his place, and
- 1:25:40Speaker 1: who has a clear concept of what he wants to be,
- 1:25:43Speaker 1: who knows that he can become what he wants to
- 1:25:45Speaker 1: be and who is determined to be what he wants
- 1:25:47Speaker 1: to be. Do not try to more than fill your
- 1:25:50Speaker 1: present place with the view of pleasing your employer. Do
- 1:25:53Speaker 1: it with the idea of advancing yourself. Hold the faith
- 1:25:56Speaker 1: and purpose of increase during work hours, after work hours,
- 1:25:59Speaker 1: and be four work hours. Hold it in such a
- 1:26:02Speaker 1: way that every person who comes in contact with you,
- 1:26:05Speaker 1: whether foreman, fellow workmen, or social acquaintance, will feel the
- 1:26:09Speaker 1: power of purpose radiating from you. So that every one
- 1:26:12Speaker 1: will get the sense of advancement and increase from you.
- 1:26:15Speaker 1: Men will be attracted to you. And if there is
- 1:26:17Speaker 1: no possibility for advancement in your present job, you will
- 1:26:21Speaker 1: very soon see an opportunity to take another job. There
- 1:26:24Speaker 1: is a power which never fails to present opportunity to
- 1:26:27Speaker 1: the advancing man who is moving in obedience to law.
- 1:26:31Speaker 1: God cannot help helping you if you act in a
- 1:26:33Speaker 1: certain way. He must do so in order to help himself.
- 1:26:37Speaker 1: There is nothing in your circumstances or the industrial situation
- 1:26:41Speaker 1: that can keep you down. If you cannot get rich
- 1:26:44Speaker 1: working for the steel Trust, you can get rich on
- 1:26:46Speaker 1: a ten acre farm. And if you begin to move
- 1:26:49Speaker 1: in a certain way, you will certainly escape from the
- 1:26:51Speaker 1: clutches of the steel Trust and get on to the
- 1:26:54Speaker 1: farm or wherever else you wish to be. If a
- 1:26:57Speaker 1: few thousands of its employees would enter upon the certain way,
- 1:27:01Speaker 1: the still trust would soon be in a bad plight.
- 1:27:03Speaker 1: It would have to give its working man more opportunity,
- 1:27:06Speaker 1: or to go out of business. Nobody has to work
- 1:27:09Speaker 1: for a trust. The trusts can keep men in so
- 1:27:12Speaker 1: called hopeless conditions only so long as there are men
- 1:27:16Speaker 1: who are too ignorant to know of the science of
- 1:27:18Speaker 1: getting rich, or too intellectually slothful to practice it. Begin
- 1:27:23Speaker 1: this way of thinking and acting, and your faith and
- 1:27:25Speaker 1: purpose will make you quick to see any opportunity to
- 1:27:28Speaker 1: better your condition. Such opportunities will speedily come, for the Supreme,
- 1:27:33Speaker 1: working in all and working for you, will bring them
- 1:27:36Speaker 1: before you. Do not wait for an opportunity to be
- 1:27:39Speaker 1: all that you want to be. When an opportunity to
- 1:27:42Speaker 1: be more than you are now is presented and you
- 1:27:44Speaker 1: feel impelled toward it, take it. It will be the
- 1:27:47Speaker 1: first step toward a greater opportunity. There is no such
- 1:27:51Speaker 1: thing possible in this universe as the lack of opportunities
- 1:27:54Speaker 1: for the man who is living the advancing life. It
- 1:27:57Speaker 1: is inherent in the constitution of the cosmos that all
- 1:28:00Speaker 1: things shall before him and work together for his good.
- 1:28:03Speaker 1: And he must certainly get rich if he acts and
- 1:28:06Speaker 1: thinks in a certain way. So let wage earning men
- 1:28:09Speaker 1: and women study this book with great care and enter
- 1:28:12Speaker 1: with confidence upon the course of action it prescribes. It
- 1:28:16Speaker 1: will not fail. The first principle in the science of
- 1:28:19Speaker 1: getting rich, thought is the only power which can produce
- 1:28:23Speaker 1: tangible riches from the formless substance. The stuff from which
- 1:28:27Speaker 1: all things are made is a substance which thinks, and
- 1:28:31Speaker 1: the thought of form in this substance produces the form.
- 1:28:34Speaker 1: Original substance moves according to its thoughts. Every form in
- 1:28:39Speaker 1: process you see in nature is the visible expression of
- 1:28:41Speaker 1: a thought in original substance. As the formless stuff thinks
- 1:28:45Speaker 1: of a form, it takes that form. As it thinks
- 1:28:48Speaker 1: of emotion, it makes that motion. That is the way
- 1:28:52Speaker 1: all things were created. We live in a thought word,
- 1:28:56Speaker 1: which is part of a thought universe. The thought of
- 1:28:59Speaker 1: a moving universe extended throughout forms substance, and the thinking
- 1:29:03Speaker 1: stuff moving according to death. Thought took the form of
- 1:29:06Speaker 1: systems of planets and maintains that form. Thinking substance takes
- 1:29:10Speaker 1: the form of its thought and moves according to the thought.
- 1:29:14Speaker 1: Holding the idea of a circling system of suns and worlds,
- 1:29:17Speaker 1: it takes the form of these bodies and moves them
- 1:29:20Speaker 1: as it thinks. Thinking the form of a slow growing
- 1:29:24Speaker 1: oak tree, it moves accordingly and produces the tree. Though
- 1:29:28Speaker 1: centuries may be required to do the work in creating
- 1:29:32Speaker 1: the formless seems to move according to the lines of
- 1:29:34Speaker 1: motion it has established. The thought of an oak tree
- 1:29:37Speaker 1: does not cause the instant formation of a full grown tree,
- 1:29:41Speaker 1: but it does start in motion the forces which will
- 1:29:43Speaker 1: produce the tree along established lines of growth. Every thought
- 1:29:48Speaker 1: of form held in thinking substance causes the creation of
- 1:29:52Speaker 1: the form, but always, or at least generally, along lines
- 1:29:56Speaker 1: of growth and action already established. The thought of a
- 1:30:00Speaker 1: house of a certain construction, if it were impressed upon
- 1:30:03Speaker 1: formless substance, might not cause the instant formation of the house,
- 1:30:07Speaker 1: but it would cause the turning of creative energies already
- 1:30:10Speaker 1: working in trade and commerce into such channels as to
- 1:30:13Speaker 1: result in the speedy building of the house. And if
- 1:30:17Speaker 1: there were no existing channels through which the creative energy
- 1:30:20Speaker 1: could work, then the house would be formed directly from
- 1:30:23Speaker 1: primal substance, without waiting for the slow processes of the
- 1:30:27Speaker 1: organic and inorganic world not thought of. Form can be
- 1:30:31Speaker 1: impressed upon original substance without causing the creation of the form.
- 1:30:36Speaker 1: Man is a thinking center and can originate thought. All
- 1:30:40Speaker 1: the forms that man fashions with his hands must first
- 1:30:43Speaker 1: exist in his thought. He cannot shape a thing until
- 1:30:47Speaker 1: he has thought that thing, And so far Man has
- 1:30:50Speaker 1: confined his efforts wholly to the work of his hands.
- 1:30:53Speaker 1: He has applied manual labor to the world of forms,
- 1:30:57Speaker 1: seeking to change or modify those already existing. He has
- 1:31:01Speaker 1: never thought of trying to cause the creation of new
- 1:31:03Speaker 1: forms by impressing his thoughts upon formless substance. When man
- 1:31:08Speaker 1: has a thought form, he takes material from the forms
- 1:31:11Speaker 1: of nature and makes an image of the form which
- 1:31:14Speaker 1: is in his mind. He has so far made little
- 1:31:17Speaker 1: or no effort to co operate with formless intelligence to
- 1:31:21Speaker 1: work with the Father. He has not dreamed that he
- 1:31:23Speaker 1: can do what he sees the Father doing. Manry shapes
- 1:31:27Speaker 1: and modifies existing forms by manual labor. He has given
- 1:31:31Speaker 1: no attention to the question whether he may not produce
- 1:31:34Speaker 1: things from formless substance by communicating his thoughts to it.
- 1:31:38Speaker 1: We propose to prove that he may do so, to
- 1:31:41Speaker 1: prove that any man or woman may do so, and
- 1:31:43Speaker 1: to show how. As our first step, we must lay
- 1:31:47Speaker 1: down three fundamental propositions. First, we assert that there is
- 1:31:52Speaker 1: one original, formless stuff or substance from which all things
- 1:31:56Speaker 1: are made. All the seemingly many elements are but different
- 1:32:00Speaker 1: presentations of one element. All the many forms found in
- 1:32:04Speaker 1: organic and inorganic nature are but different shapes made from
- 1:32:07Speaker 1: the same stuff. And this stuff is thinking stuff. A
- 1:32:12Speaker 1: thought held in it produces the form of the thought.
- 1:32:15Speaker 1: Thought in thinking substance produces shapes. Man is a thinking
- 1:32:20Speaker 1: center capable of original thought. If man can communicate his
- 1:32:25Speaker 1: thought to original thinking substance, he can cause the creation
- 1:32:29Speaker 1: or formation of the thing he thinks about. To summarize this,
- 1:32:33Speaker 1: there is a thinking stuff from which all things are made,
- 1:32:36Speaker 1: and which in its original state permits, penetrates, and feels
- 1:32:40Speaker 1: the interspaces of the universe. A thought in this substance
- 1:32:45Speaker 1: produces the thing that is imaged by the thought. Man
- 1:32:49Speaker 1: can form things in his thought, and by impressing his
- 1:32:52Speaker 1: thought upon formless substance can cause the thing he thinks
- 1:32:56Speaker 1: about to be created. It may be asked if I
- 1:32:59Speaker 1: can prove these statements, And without going into details, I
- 1:33:03Speaker 1: answer that I can do so both by logic and experience.
- 1:33:07Speaker 1: Reasoning back from the phenomena of foreman thought, I come
- 1:33:11Speaker 1: to one original thinking substance, and reasoning forward from this
- 1:33:15Speaker 1: thinking substance, I come to man's power to cause the
- 1:33:18Speaker 1: formation of the thing he thinks about. And by experiment
- 1:33:22Speaker 1: I find the reasoning true. And this is my strongest proof.
- 1:33:27Speaker 1: If one man who reads this book gets rich by
- 1:33:29Speaker 1: doing what he tells him to do, that is evidence
- 1:33:32Speaker 1: in support of my claim. But if every man who
- 1:33:35Speaker 1: does what it tells him to do gets rich, that
- 1:33:37Speaker 1: is positive proof. Until someone goes through the process and fails.
- 1:33:42Speaker 1: The theory is true until the process fails. And this
- 1:33:45Speaker 1: process will not fail, for every man who does exactly
- 1:33:48Speaker 1: what this book tells him to do will get rich.
- 1:33:52Speaker 1: I have said that man get rich by doing things
- 1:33:54Speaker 1: in a certain way, and in order to do so,
- 1:33:57Speaker 1: man must become able to think in a certain way.
- 1:34:01Speaker 1: A man's way of doing things is the direct result
- 1:34:04Speaker 1: of the way he thinks about things. To do things
- 1:34:07Speaker 1: in a way you want to do them. You will
- 1:34:09Speaker 1: have to acquire the ability to think the way you
- 1:34:11Speaker 1: want to think. This is the first step toward getting rich.
- 1:34:16Speaker 1: To think what you want to think is to think truth,
- 1:34:19Speaker 1: regardless of appearances. Every man has the natural and inherent
- 1:34:24Speaker 1: power to think what he wants to think, but it
- 1:34:26Speaker 1: requires far more effort to do so than it does
- 1:34:28Speaker 1: to think the thoughts which are suggested by appearances. To
- 1:34:32Speaker 1: think according to appearance is easy. To think truth regardless
- 1:34:36Speaker 1: of appearances is laborous and requires the expendure of more
- 1:34:40Speaker 1: power than any other workman is called upon to perform.
- 1:34:44Speaker 1: There is no labor from which most people shrink as
- 1:34:46Speaker 1: they do from that of sustained and consecutive thought. It
- 1:34:50Speaker 1: is the hardest work in the world. This is especially
- 1:34:53Speaker 1: true when truth is contrary to appearances. Every appearance in
- 1:34:58Speaker 1: the visible world tends to p a corresponding form in
- 1:35:01Speaker 1: the mind which observes it, and this can only be
- 1:35:04Speaker 1: prevented by holding the thought of the truth. To look
- 1:35:08Speaker 1: upon the appearance of disease will produce the form of
- 1:35:11Speaker 1: disease in your own mind and ultimately in your body,
- 1:35:14Speaker 1: unless you hold the thought of the truth, which is
- 1:35:17Speaker 1: that there is no disease. It is only an appearance,
- 1:35:19Speaker 1: and the reality is health. To look upon the appearances
- 1:35:23Speaker 1: of poverty will produce corresponding forms in your own mind.
- 1:35:27Speaker 1: Unless you hold to the truth that there is no poverty,
- 1:35:30Speaker 1: there is only abundance. To think health when surrounded by
- 1:35:34Speaker 1: the appearances of disease, or to think riches when in
- 1:35:37Speaker 1: the midst of appearances of poverty. Requires power. But he
- 1:35:41Speaker 1: who acquires this power becomes a master mind. He can
- 1:35:45Speaker 1: conquer faith, he can have what he wants. This power
- 1:35:49Speaker 1: can only be acquired by getting hold of the basic
- 1:35:52Speaker 1: fact which is behind all appearances, and that fact is
- 1:35:56Speaker 1: that there is one thinking substance from which and by
- 1:35:59Speaker 1: which all things are made. Then we must grasp the
- 1:36:02Speaker 1: truth that every thought held in the substance becomes a form,
- 1:36:06Speaker 1: and that man can so impress his thoughts upon it
- 1:36:09Speaker 1: as to cause them to take form and become visible things.
- 1:36:13Speaker 1: When we realize this, we lose all doubt and fear,
- 1:36:16Speaker 1: for we know that we can create, we want to create,
- 1:36:19Speaker 1: We can get what we want to have, and can
- 1:36:21Speaker 1: become what we want to be. As a first step
- 1:36:24Speaker 1: toward getting rich, you must believe that three fundamental statements
- 1:36:28Speaker 1: given previously in this chapter, and in order to emphasize them,
- 1:36:32Speaker 1: I repeat them here. There is a thinking stuff from
- 1:36:35Speaker 1: which all things are made, and which, in its original
- 1:36:38Speaker 1: state permits, penetrates, and feels the interspaces of the universe.
- 1:36:43Speaker 1: A thought in this substance produces the thing that is
- 1:36:47Speaker 1: imaged by the thought. Man can form things in his thought,
- 1:36:51Speaker 1: and by impressing his thought upon formless substance, can cause
- 1:36:55Speaker 1: the thing he thinks about to be created. He must
- 1:36:59Speaker 1: lay aside all other concepts of the universe than this
- 1:37:02Speaker 1: monistic one, and you must dwell upon this until it
- 1:37:05Speaker 1: is fixed in your mind and has become your habitual thought.
- 1:37:09Speaker 1: Read disecrete statements over and over again, fix every word
- 1:37:13Speaker 1: upon your memory, and meditate upon them until you firmly
- 1:37:16Speaker 1: believe what they say. If a doubt comes to you,
- 1:37:19Speaker 1: cast it aside as a sin. Do not listen to
- 1:37:22Speaker 1: arguments against this idea. Do not go to churches or
- 1:37:26Speaker 1: lectures where a contrary concept of things is thought or preached.
- 1:37:30Speaker 1: Do not read magazines or books which teach a different idea.
- 1:37:34Speaker 1: If you get mixed up in your faith, all your
- 1:37:36Speaker 1: efforts will be in vain. Do not ask why these
- 1:37:40Speaker 1: things are true, nor speculate as to how they can
- 1:37:42Speaker 1: be true. Simply take them on trust. The science of
- 1:37:46Speaker 1: getting rich begins with the absolute acceptance of this faith,
- 1:37:50Speaker 1: the impression of increase. Whether you charge your vocation or not,
- 1:37:55Speaker 1: your actions for the present must be those pertaining to
- 1:37:58Speaker 1: the business in which you are now engaged. You can
- 1:38:01Speaker 1: get into the business you want by making constructive use
- 1:38:04Speaker 1: of the business you are already established in, by doing
- 1:38:07Speaker 1: your daily work in a certain way, and in so
- 1:38:10Speaker 1: far as your business consists in dealing with other men,
- 1:38:13Speaker 1: whether personally or by letter, the key thought of all
- 1:38:16Speaker 1: your efforts must be to convey their minds. The impression
- 1:38:19Speaker 1: of increase. Increase is what all men and all women
- 1:38:23Speaker 1: are seeking. It is the urge of the formless intelligence
- 1:38:26Speaker 1: within them, seeking fuller expression. The desire for increase is
- 1:38:30Speaker 1: inherent in all nature. It is the fundamental impulse of
- 1:38:34Speaker 1: the universe. All human activities are based on the desire
- 1:38:38Speaker 1: for increase. People are seeking more food, more clothes, better shelter,
- 1:38:42Speaker 1: more luxury, more beauty, more knowledge, more pleasure, increasing something,
- 1:38:48Speaker 1: more life. Every living thing is under this necessity for
- 1:38:52Speaker 1: continuous investment, where increase of life seeses this solution, and
- 1:38:56Speaker 1: death set in at once. Men instinctively knows this, and
- 1:39:01Speaker 1: hence he is forever seeking more. This law of perpetual
- 1:39:04Speaker 1: increase is set forth by Jesus in the parable of
- 1:39:07Speaker 1: the talents. Only those who gain more retain. Any from
- 1:39:11Speaker 1: him who had not shall be taken away, even that
- 1:39:14Speaker 1: which he had. The normal desire for increased wealth is
- 1:39:18Speaker 1: not an evil or a reprehensible thing. It is simply
- 1:39:21Speaker 1: the desire for more abundant life. It is aspiration, And
- 1:39:25Speaker 1: because it is the deepest instinct of their natures, all
- 1:39:29Speaker 1: men and women are attracted to him who can give
- 1:39:31Speaker 1: them more of the means of life. In following a
- 1:39:34Speaker 1: certain way, as described in the foregoing pages, you are
- 1:39:37Speaker 1: getting continuous increase for yourself, and you are giving it
- 1:39:41Speaker 1: to all with whom you deal. You are a creative
- 1:39:44Speaker 1: center from which increase is given off to all. Be
- 1:39:48Speaker 1: sure of this, and convey assurance of the fact to
- 1:39:51Speaker 1: every man, woman, and child with whom you come in contact,
- 1:39:55Speaker 1: no matter how small the transaction, even if it be
- 1:39:58Speaker 1: only the selling of a stick of candy to a
- 1:40:00Speaker 1: little child, put into it the thought of increase, and
- 1:40:04Speaker 1: make sure that the customer is impressed with the thought.
- 1:40:08Speaker 1: Convey the impression of advancement with everything you do, so
- 1:40:11Speaker 1: that all people shall receive the impression that you are
- 1:40:13Speaker 1: an advancing man, and that you advance all who deal
- 1:40:16Speaker 1: with you, even to the people whom you met in
- 1:40:19Speaker 1: a social way without any thought of business, and to
- 1:40:22Speaker 1: whom you do not try to sell anything, give the
- 1:40:25Speaker 1: thought of increase. You can convey this impression by holding
- 1:40:29Speaker 1: the unshakable faith that you yourself are in the way of increase,
- 1:40:33Speaker 1: and by letting this faith aspire, feel and permit every action.
- 1:40:38Speaker 1: Do everything that you do in a firm conviction that
- 1:40:40Speaker 1: you are an advancing personality, and that you are giving
- 1:40:43Speaker 1: advancement to everybody. Feel that you are getting rich, and
- 1:40:47Speaker 1: that in doing so you are making others rich and
- 1:40:50Speaker 1: conferring benefits on all. Do not boast or brag of
- 1:40:54Speaker 1: your success or talk about it unnecessarily true. Faith is
- 1:40:58Speaker 1: never boastful. Wherever you find a boastful person, you find
- 1:41:03Speaker 1: one who is secretly doubtful and afraid. Simply feel the
- 1:41:06Speaker 1: faith and let it work out in every transaction. Let
- 1:41:10Speaker 1: every act in tone and look express the quiet assurance
- 1:41:13Speaker 1: that you are getting rich, that you are already rich.
- 1:41:16Speaker 1: Words will not be necessary to communicate this feeling to others.
- 1:41:20Speaker 1: They will feel the sense of increase when in your presence,
- 1:41:23Speaker 1: and will be attracted to you again. You must so
- 1:41:26Speaker 1: impress others that they will feel that in associating with you,
- 1:41:29Speaker 1: they will get increase for themselves. See that you give
- 1:41:33Speaker 1: them a use of value greater than the cash value
- 1:41:35Speaker 1: you are taking from them. Take an honest pride in
- 1:41:38Speaker 1: doing this, and let everybody know it, and you will
- 1:41:41Speaker 1: have no lack of customers. People will go where they
- 1:41:45Speaker 1: are given increase, and the Supreme, which desires increase in all,
- 1:41:48Speaker 1: and which knows all, will move toward you. Men and
- 1:41:51Speaker 1: women who have never heard of you. Your business will
- 1:41:55Speaker 1: increase rapidly, and you will be surprised at the unexpected
- 1:41:58Speaker 1: benefits which will come to you. You will be able
- 1:42:01Speaker 1: from day to day to make larger combinations, secure greater advantages,
- 1:42:06Speaker 1: and to go on into a more congenial vocation if
- 1:42:09Speaker 1: you desire to do so. But in doing all this,
- 1:42:12Speaker 1: you must never lose sight of your vision of what
- 1:42:14Speaker 1: you want, or your faith and purpose to get what
- 1:42:17Speaker 1: you want. Let me here give you another word of
- 1:42:20Speaker 1: caution in regard to motives, beware of the insidious tentation
- 1:42:24Speaker 1: to seek for power over other men. Nothing is so
- 1:42:27Speaker 1: pleasant to the informed or partially developed mind as the
- 1:42:30Speaker 1: exercise of power or domination over others. The desire to
- 1:42:35Speaker 1: rule for selfish gratification has been the curse of the world.
- 1:42:39Speaker 1: For countless ages, kings and lords have drencht the earth
- 1:42:42Speaker 1: with blood in their battles to extend their dominions. This
- 1:42:45Speaker 1: not to seek more life for all, but to get
- 1:42:47Speaker 1: more power for themselves. To day, the main motive in
- 1:42:51Speaker 1: the business and industrial world is the same. Men marshal
- 1:42:54Speaker 1: their armies of dollars and lay waste their lives and
- 1:42:57Speaker 1: hearts of millions in the same match scramble for power
- 1:43:00Speaker 1: over others. Commercial kings, like political kings, are inspired by
- 1:43:05Speaker 1: the lust for power. Jesus so in this desire for mastery,
- 1:43:09Speaker 1: the moving impulse of that evil world he sought to overthrow.
- 1:43:14Speaker 1: Read the twenty third chapter of Matthew and see how
- 1:43:17Speaker 1: he pictures the lust of the Pharisees to be called master,
- 1:43:20Speaker 1: to sit in the high places, to domineer over others,
- 1:43:23Speaker 1: and to lay burdens on the backs of the less
- 1:43:25Speaker 1: fortunate and Note how he compares this lust for domination
- 1:43:29Speaker 1: with the brotherly seeking for the common good to which
- 1:43:32Speaker 1: he calls his disciples. Look out for the temptation to
- 1:43:35Speaker 1: seek for authority, to become a master, to be considered
- 1:43:39Speaker 1: as one who is above the common herd, to impress
- 1:43:41Speaker 1: others by lavish display, and so on. The mind that
- 1:43:45Speaker 1: seeks for mastery over others is the competitive mind, and
- 1:43:48Speaker 1: the competitive mind is not the creative one. In order
- 1:43:52Speaker 1: to master your environment and your destiny, it is not
- 1:43:55Speaker 1: at all necessary that you should rule over your fellow men.
- 1:43:58Speaker 1: And indeed, when you fall into the world struggle for
- 1:44:00Speaker 1: the high places, you begin to be conquered by faith
- 1:44:03Speaker 1: and environment, and you are getting rich becomes a matter
- 1:44:06Speaker 1: of chance and speculation. Beware of the competitive mind. No
- 1:44:11Speaker 1: better statement of the principle of creative action can be
- 1:44:14Speaker 1: formulated than the favorite declaration of the late Golden rule
- 1:44:18Speaker 1: Jones of Toledo. What I want for myself, I want
- 1:44:21Speaker 1: for everybody the right to be rich. Whatever may be
- 1:44:26Speaker 1: said in praise of poverty, the fact remains that it
- 1:44:29Speaker 1: is not possible to live a really complete or successful
- 1:44:31Speaker 1: life unless one is rich. No man can rise to
- 1:44:34Speaker 1: his greatest possible height in talent or soul development unless
- 1:44:38Speaker 1: he has plenty of money for to unfold the soul
- 1:44:41Speaker 1: on to develop talent, he must have many things to use,
- 1:44:44Speaker 1: and he cannot have these things unless he has money
- 1:44:46Speaker 1: to buy them with. A man develops in mind, soul,
- 1:44:50Speaker 1: and body by making use of things, and society is
- 1:44:53Speaker 1: so organized that man must have money in order to
- 1:44:55Speaker 1: become the possessor of things. Therefore, the basis of all
- 1:44:58Speaker 1: advancement for a man must be the science of getting rich.
- 1:45:02Speaker 1: The object of all life is development, and everything that
- 1:45:06Speaker 1: lives has an alienable right to all the development it
- 1:45:08Speaker 1: is capable of attaining. Man's right to life means his
- 1:45:12Speaker 1: right to have the free and unrestricted use of all
- 1:45:14Speaker 1: the things which may be necessary to his fullest mental, spiritual,
- 1:45:18Speaker 1: and physical unfoldment, or in other words, his right to
- 1:45:22Speaker 1: be rich. In this book I shall not speak of
- 1:45:25Speaker 1: riches in a figurative way. To be really rich does
- 1:45:28Speaker 1: not mean to be satisfied or contended with a little.
- 1:45:31Speaker 1: No man ought to be satisfied with a little if
- 1:45:33Speaker 1: he is capable of using and enjoying more. The purpose
- 1:45:36Speaker 1: of nature is advancement and unfoldment of life. And every
- 1:45:40Speaker 1: man should have all that can contribute to the power, elegance, beauty,
- 1:45:43Speaker 1: and richness of life. To be content with less is sinful.
- 1:45:48Speaker 1: The man who owns all he wants for the living
- 1:45:50Speaker 1: of all the life he is capable of living is rich,
- 1:45:54Speaker 1: and no man who has not plenty of money can
- 1:45:56Speaker 1: have all he wants. Life has advanced so far and
- 1:46:00Speaker 1: becomes so complex that even the most ordinary man or
- 1:46:03Speaker 1: woman requires a great amount of wealth in order to
- 1:46:06Speaker 1: live in a manner that even approaches completeness. Every person
- 1:46:10Speaker 1: naturally wants to become all that they are capable of becoming.
- 1:46:13Speaker 1: This desire to realize innate possibilities is inherent in human nature.
- 1:46:18Speaker 1: We cannot help wanting to be all that we can be.
- 1:46:21Speaker 1: Success in life is becoming what you want to be.
- 1:46:24Speaker 1: You can become what you want to be only by
- 1:46:26Speaker 1: making use of things, and you can have the free
- 1:46:28Speaker 1: use of things only as you become rich enough to
- 1:46:31Speaker 1: buy them. To understand the science of getting rich is
- 1:46:34Speaker 1: therefore the most essential of all knowledge. There is nothing
- 1:46:37Speaker 1: wrong in wanting to get rich. The desire for riches
- 1:46:41Speaker 1: is really the desire for a richer, fuller, and more
- 1:46:44Speaker 1: abundant life. And that desire is praiseworthy. The man who
- 1:46:48Speaker 1: does not desire to live more abundantly is abnormal, and
- 1:46:51Speaker 1: so the man who does not desire to have money
- 1:46:53Speaker 1: enough to buy all he wants is abnormal. There are
- 1:46:56Speaker 1: three motives for which we live. We live for the body,
- 1:47:00Speaker 1: will live for the mind, will live for the soul.
- 1:47:03Speaker 1: No one of these is better or holier than the other.
- 1:47:06Speaker 1: All are alike desirable, and no one of the three body, mind,
- 1:47:10Speaker 1: or soul can live fully if either of the others
- 1:47:12Speaker 1: is cut short of full life and expression. It is
- 1:47:16Speaker 1: not right or noble to live only for the soul
- 1:47:18Speaker 1: and deny mind or body, and it is wrong to
- 1:47:21Speaker 1: live for the intellect and deny body or soul. We
- 1:47:24Speaker 1: are all acquainted with the loss some consequences of living
- 1:47:27Speaker 1: for the body and denying both mind and soul, and
- 1:47:30Speaker 1: we can see that real life means the complete expression
- 1:47:33Speaker 1: of all that man can give forth through body, mind,
- 1:47:36Speaker 1: and soul. Whatever he can say, no man can be
- 1:47:40Speaker 1: really happy or satisfied unless his body is living fully
- 1:47:42Speaker 1: in every function, and unless the same is true for
- 1:47:45Speaker 1: his mind and his soul. Wherever there is unexpressed possibility
- 1:47:50Speaker 1: or function, not performed, there is unsatisfied desire. Desire is
- 1:47:54Speaker 1: possibility seeking expression or function seeking performance. Can not live
- 1:48:00Speaker 1: fully in body without good food, comfortable clothing, and warm shelter,
- 1:48:04Speaker 1: and without freedom from excessive toil. Rest and recreation are
- 1:48:09Speaker 1: also necessary for his physical life. He cannot live fully
- 1:48:13Speaker 1: in mind without books and time to study them, without
- 1:48:16Speaker 1: opportunity to travel and observation, or without intellectual companionship. To
- 1:48:22Speaker 1: live fully in mind, he must have intellectual recreations, and
- 1:48:25Speaker 1: must surround himself with all the objects of art and
- 1:48:28Speaker 1: beauty he is capable of using and appreciating. To live
- 1:48:32Speaker 1: fully in soul, man must have love, and love is
- 1:48:35Speaker 1: denied expression by poverty. A man's highest happiness is found
- 1:48:39Speaker 1: in the bestowal of benefits on those he loves. Love
- 1:48:43Speaker 1: finds its most natural and spontaneous expression in giving. The
- 1:48:47Speaker 1: man who has nothing to give cannot feel his place
- 1:48:49Speaker 1: as a husband or father, as a citizen, or as
- 1:48:52Speaker 1: a man. It is in the use of material things
- 1:48:55Speaker 1: that the man finds full life, for his body, develops
- 1:48:58Speaker 1: his mind, and unfold his soul. It is therefore for
- 1:49:02Speaker 1: supreme importance to him that he should be rich. It
- 1:49:06Speaker 1: is perfectly right that you should desire to be rich.
- 1:49:08Speaker 1: If you are a normal man or woman, you cannot
- 1:49:11Speaker 1: help doing so. It is perfectly right that you should
- 1:49:13Speaker 1: give your best attention to the science of getting rich,
- 1:49:16Speaker 1: for it is the noblest and most necessary of all studies.
- 1:49:20Speaker 1: If you neglect this study, you are derelict in your
- 1:49:23Speaker 1: duty to yourself, to God and humanity. For you can
- 1:49:26Speaker 1: render to God and humanity no greater service than to
- 1:49:29Speaker 1: make the most of yourself. There is a science of
- 1:49:32Speaker 1: getting rich. There is a science of getting rich, and
- 1:49:36Speaker 1: it is an exact science, like algebra or arithmetic. There
- 1:49:40Speaker 1: are certain laws which govern the process of acquiring riches.
- 1:49:43Speaker 1: Once these laws are learned and obeyed by any man,
- 1:49:46Speaker 1: he will get rich with mathematical certainty. The ownership of
- 1:49:50Speaker 1: money and property comes as a result of doing things
- 1:49:53Speaker 1: in a certain way. Those who do things in this
- 1:49:56Speaker 1: certain way, whether on purpose or accidentally, get rich, while
- 1:50:00Speaker 1: those who do not do things in this certain way,
- 1:50:03Speaker 1: no matter how hard they work or how able they are,
- 1:50:06Speaker 1: remain poor. It is a natural law that like causes
- 1:50:10Speaker 1: always produce like effects, and therefore any man or woman
- 1:50:13Speaker 1: who learns to do things in this certain way will
- 1:50:16Speaker 1: infallibly get rich. That the above statement is true is
- 1:50:20Speaker 1: shown by the following facts. Getting rich is not a
- 1:50:23Speaker 1: matter of environment. For if it were, all the people
- 1:50:26Speaker 1: in certain neighborhoods would become wealthy, the people of one
- 1:50:29Speaker 1: city would be all rich while those of other towns
- 1:50:32Speaker 1: would all be poor. Or the inhabitants of one state
- 1:50:35Speaker 1: would roll in wealth while those of an adjourning state
- 1:50:38Speaker 1: would be in poverty. But everywhere we see rich and
- 1:50:41Speaker 1: poor living side by side, in the same environment and
- 1:50:44Speaker 1: often engaged in the same vocations. When two men are
- 1:50:48Speaker 1: in the same locality and in the same business, and
- 1:50:50Speaker 1: one gets rich while the other remains poor, it shows
- 1:50:53Speaker 1: that getting rich is not primarily a matter of environment.
- 1:50:57Speaker 1: Some environments may be more favorable than others. But when
- 1:51:00Speaker 1: two men in the same business are in the same
- 1:51:02Speaker 1: neighborhood and one gets rich while the other fails, it
- 1:51:06Speaker 1: indicates that getting rich is a result of doing things
- 1:51:09Speaker 1: in a certain way. And further, the ability to do
- 1:51:12Speaker 1: things in a certain way is not due solely to
- 1:51:15Speaker 1: the possession of talent, For many people who have great
- 1:51:18Speaker 1: talent remain poor, while others who have very little talent
- 1:51:21Speaker 1: get rich. Studying the people who have got rich, we
- 1:51:25Speaker 1: find that they are an average slot in all respects,
- 1:51:28Speaker 1: having no greater talents or abilities than other men. It
- 1:51:31Speaker 1: is evident that they do not get rich because they
- 1:51:33Speaker 1: possess talents or abilities that other men have not, but
- 1:51:36Speaker 1: because they happen to do things in a certain way.
- 1:51:40Speaker 1: Getting rich is not the result of saving or thrift.
- 1:51:42Speaker 1: Many very penurious people are poor, while free spenders often
- 1:51:46Speaker 1: get rich. Nor is getting rich due to doing things
- 1:51:50Speaker 1: which others fail to do. For two men in the
- 1:51:52Speaker 1: same business often do almost exactly the same things, and
- 1:51:55Speaker 1: one gets rich while the other remains poor or becomes bankrupt.
- 1:52:00Speaker 1: From all these things, we must come to the conclusion
- 1:52:02Speaker 1: that getting rich is the result of doing things in
- 1:52:05Speaker 1: a certain way. If getting rich is the result of
- 1:52:08Speaker 1: doing things in a certain way, and if like causes
- 1:52:11Speaker 1: always produce like effects, then any man or woman who
- 1:52:14Speaker 1: can do things in that way can become rich. And
- 1:52:17Speaker 1: the whole matter is brought within the domain of exact science.
- 1:52:21Speaker 1: The question arises here whether this certain way may not
- 1:52:24Speaker 1: be so difficult that only a few may follow it.
- 1:52:27Speaker 1: This cannot be true, as we have seen so far
- 1:52:29Speaker 1: as natural ability is concerned. Talented people get rich and
- 1:52:34Speaker 1: blockheads get rich Intellectually brilliant people get rich, and very
- 1:52:38Speaker 1: stupid people get rich. Physically strong people get rich, and
- 1:52:42Speaker 1: we can sickly people get rich. Some degree of ability
- 1:52:45Speaker 1: to think and understand is of course essential, but in
- 1:52:49Speaker 1: so far natural ability is concerned. Any man or woman
- 1:52:52Speaker 1: who has sense enough to read and understand these words
- 1:52:54Speaker 1: can certainly get rich. Also, we have seen that it
- 1:52:58Speaker 1: is not a matter of environment. Location counts for something.
- 1:53:01Speaker 1: One would not go to the heart of the Sahara
- 1:53:03Speaker 1: and expect to do successful business. Getting rich involves the
- 1:53:07Speaker 1: necessity of dealing with men, and of being where there
- 1:53:10Speaker 1: are people to deal with. And if these people are
- 1:53:13Speaker 1: inclined to deal in the way you want to deal,
- 1:53:15Speaker 1: so much the better. But that is about as far
- 1:53:18Speaker 1: as environment goes. If anybody else in your town can
- 1:53:21Speaker 1: get rich, so can you, And if anybody else in
- 1:53:24Speaker 1: your state can get rich, so can you. Again, it
- 1:53:27Speaker 1: is not a matter of choosing some particular business or profession.
- 1:53:31Speaker 1: People get rich in every business and in every profession,
- 1:53:34Speaker 1: while they are next door neighbors on the same vocation
- 1:53:37Speaker 1: remain in poverty. It is true that you will do
- 1:53:40Speaker 1: best in a business which you like and which is
- 1:53:42Speaker 1: congenial to you. And if you have certain talents which
- 1:53:45Speaker 1: are well developed, you will do best in a business
- 1:53:48Speaker 1: which calls for the exercise of those talents. Also, you
- 1:53:52Speaker 1: will do best in a business which is suited to
- 1:53:54Speaker 1: your locality. An ice cream parlor would do better in
- 1:53:57Speaker 1: a warm climate than in Greenland, and the salmon fishery
- 1:54:00Speaker 1: would succeed better in the Northwest than in Florida, where
- 1:54:03Speaker 1: there are no salmon. But aside from these general limitations,
- 1:54:07Speaker 1: getting rich is not dependent upon your engaging in some
- 1:54:10Speaker 1: particular business, but upon your learning to do things in
- 1:54:13Speaker 1: a certain way. If you are now in business and
- 1:54:15Speaker 1: everybody else in your locality is getting rich in the
- 1:54:18Speaker 1: same business, while you are not getting rich, it is
- 1:54:20Speaker 1: because you are not doing things in the same way
- 1:54:22Speaker 1: that the other person is doing them. No one is
- 1:54:25Speaker 1: prevented from getting rich by lack of capital. True, as
- 1:54:28Speaker 1: you get capital, the increase becomes more easy and rapid.
- 1:54:31Speaker 1: But one who has capital is already rich and does
- 1:54:34Speaker 1: not need to consider how to become so. No matter
- 1:54:37Speaker 1: how poor you may be, if you begin to do
- 1:54:40Speaker 1: things in a certain way, you will begin to get rich,
- 1:54:43Speaker 1: and you will begin to have capital. The getting of
- 1:54:45Speaker 1: capital is a part of the process of getting rich,
- 1:54:48Speaker 1: and it is a part of the result which invariably
- 1:54:51Speaker 1: follows the doing of things in a certain way. You
- 1:54:54Speaker 1: may be the poorest man on the continent and be
- 1:54:56Speaker 1: deeply in debt. You may have neither friends, influence, nor resources.
- 1:55:01Speaker 1: But if you begin to do things in this way,
- 1:55:03Speaker 1: you must infallibly begin to get rich. For like causes
- 1:55:07Speaker 1: must produce like effects. If you have no capital, you
- 1:55:10Speaker 1: can get capital. If you are in the wrong business,
- 1:55:13Speaker 1: you can get into the right business. If you are
- 1:55:15Speaker 1: in the wrong location, you can go to the right location.
- 1:55:18Speaker 1: And you can do so by beginning in your present
- 1:55:20Speaker 1: business and in your present location, to do things in
- 1:55:23Speaker 1: a certain way which causes success. Thinking in a certain way.
- 1:55:29Speaker 1: Turn back to chapter six and read again the story
- 1:55:31Speaker 1: of the man who formed the mental image of his house,
- 1:55:34Speaker 1: and you will get a fair idea of the initial
- 1:55:36Speaker 1: step toward getting rich. You must form a clear and
- 1:55:39Speaker 1: definite mental picture of what you want. You cannot transmit
- 1:55:42Speaker 1: an idea unless you have it yourself. You must have
- 1:55:46Speaker 1: it before you can give it. And many people fail
- 1:55:48Speaker 1: to impress thinking substance because they have themselves only awake
- 1:55:52Speaker 1: and mistic concept of the things they want to do,
- 1:55:55Speaker 1: to have, or to become. It is not enough that
- 1:55:58Speaker 1: you should have a general desire for health, to do
- 1:56:01Speaker 1: good with. Everybody has that desire. It is not enough
- 1:56:04Speaker 1: that you should have a wish to travel, see things,
- 1:56:07Speaker 1: leave more, et cetera. Everybody has those desires. Also, if
- 1:56:12Speaker 1: you are going to send a wireless message to a friend,
- 1:56:15Speaker 1: you would not send the letters of the alphabet in
- 1:56:17Speaker 1: their order and let him construct the message for himself.
- 1:56:20Speaker 1: Nor would you take words at random from the dictionary.
- 1:56:24Speaker 1: You would send a coherent sentence, one which meant something.
- 1:56:28Speaker 1: When you try to impress your wants upon substance, remember
- 1:56:31Speaker 1: that it must be done by a coherent statement. You
- 1:56:34Speaker 1: must know what you want and be definite. You can
- 1:56:37Speaker 1: never get rich or start a creative power into action
- 1:56:40Speaker 1: by sending out unformed longings and wake desires. Go over
- 1:56:45Speaker 1: your desires, just as the man I have described went
- 1:56:49Speaker 1: over his house. See just what you want, and get
- 1:56:52Speaker 1: a clear mental picture of it as you wish it
- 1:56:54Speaker 1: to look. When you get it, that clear mental picture,
- 1:56:57Speaker 1: you must have continually in mind, as the sailor has
- 1:57:00Speaker 1: in mind the port toward which he is sailing the ship.
- 1:57:04Speaker 1: You must keep your face toward it all the time.
- 1:57:06Speaker 1: You must no more lose sight of it than the
- 1:57:09Speaker 1: steersman loses sight of the compass. It is not necessary
- 1:57:12Speaker 1: to take exercises in concentration, nor to set apart special
- 1:57:17Speaker 1: times for prayer and affirmation, nor to go into the silence,
- 1:57:21Speaker 1: nor to do a cold stunt of any kind. These
- 1:57:24Speaker 1: things are well enough. But all you need is to
- 1:57:27Speaker 1: know what you want, and to want it badly enough
- 1:57:30Speaker 1: so that it will stay in your thoughts. Spend as
- 1:57:33Speaker 1: much your leisure time as you can in contemplating your picture.
- 1:57:36Speaker 1: But no one needs to take exercises to concentrate his
- 1:57:39Speaker 1: mind on a thing he really wants. It is the
- 1:57:42Speaker 1: things you do not really care about which require effort
- 1:57:45Speaker 1: to fix your attention upon them. And unless you really
- 1:57:48Speaker 1: want to get rich so that the desire is strong
- 1:57:50Speaker 1: enough to hold your thoughts directed to the purpose as
- 1:57:53Speaker 1: the magnetic pole holds the needle of the compass, it
- 1:57:56Speaker 1: will hardly be worth while for you to try to
- 1:57:59Speaker 1: carry out then instructions given in this book. The methods
- 1:58:02Speaker 1: herein set forth are for people whose desire for riches
- 1:58:06Speaker 1: is strong enough to overcome mental laziness and the love
- 1:58:08Speaker 1: of ease and make them work. The more clear and
- 1:58:12Speaker 1: definite you make your picture, then, and the more you
- 1:58:14Speaker 1: dwell upon it, bringing out all its delightful details, the
- 1:58:18Speaker 1: stronger your desire will be, and the stronger your desire,
- 1:58:22Speaker 1: the easier it will be to hold your mind fixed
- 1:58:24Speaker 1: upon the picture of what you want. Something more is necessary, however,
- 1:58:29Speaker 1: than merely to see the picture clearly. If that is
- 1:58:32Speaker 1: all you do, you are only a dreamer and will
- 1:58:34Speaker 1: have little or no power for accomplishment. Behind your clear
- 1:58:38Speaker 1: vision must be the purpose to realize it, to bring
- 1:58:41Speaker 1: it out in tangible expression. And behind this purpose must
- 1:58:45Speaker 1: be an invincible and unwavering faith that the thing is
- 1:58:48Speaker 1: already yours, that it is at hand, and you have
- 1:58:51Speaker 1: only to take possession of it. Live in the new
- 1:58:55Speaker 1: house mentally until it takes form around you physically in
- 1:58:59Speaker 1: the mental realm. Enter at once into full enjoyment of
- 1:59:02Speaker 1: the things you want. Whatsoever things ye ask for when
- 1:59:05Speaker 1: ye pray, believe that ye receive them, and ye shall
- 1:59:08Speaker 1: have them, said Jesus. See the things you want as
- 1:59:13Speaker 1: if they were actually around you all the time. See
- 1:59:16Speaker 1: yourself as owning and using them. Make use of them
- 1:59:19Speaker 1: in imagination, just as you will use them when they
- 1:59:22Speaker 1: are your tankable possessions. Dwell upon your mental picture until
- 1:59:25Speaker 1: it is clear and distinct, and then take the mental
- 1:59:28Speaker 1: latitude of ownership toward everything in that picture. Take possession
- 1:59:32Speaker 1: of it in mind, in the full faith that it
- 1:59:35Speaker 1: is actually yours. Hold to dis mental ownership. Do not
- 1:59:39Speaker 1: favor for an instant in the faith that it is real.
- 1:59:42Speaker 1: And remember what was said in the preceding chapter about gratitude.
- 1:59:46Speaker 1: Be as thankful for it all the time as you
- 1:59:49Speaker 1: expect it to be when it has taken form. The
- 1:59:51Speaker 1: man who can sincerely thank God for the things which
- 1:59:54Speaker 1: as yet he owns only in imagination, has real faith.
- 1:59:58Speaker 1: He will get rich. He will cause the creation of
- 2:00:01Speaker 1: whatsoever he wants. You do not need to pray repeatedly
- 2:00:05Speaker 1: for things you want. It is not necessary to tell
- 2:00:07Speaker 1: God about it every day. Use not paying repetitions, as
- 2:00:11Speaker 1: the heathen do, said Jesus to his pupils. For your
- 2:00:14Speaker 1: father knoweth that ye have need of these things before
- 2:00:17Speaker 1: ye ask him. Your part is to intelligently formulate your
- 2:00:21Speaker 1: desire for the things which make for a larger life,
- 2:00:24Speaker 1: and to get these desire arranged into a coherent whole
- 2:00:28Speaker 1: and then to impress this whole desire upon the formless substance,
- 2:00:31Speaker 1: which has the power and the will to bring you
- 2:00:33Speaker 1: what you want. You do not make this impression by
- 2:00:37Speaker 1: repeating strings of words. You make it by holding the
- 2:00:40Speaker 1: vision with unshakable purpose to attain it, and with steadfast
- 2:00:44Speaker 1: faith that you do attain it. The answer to prayer
- 2:00:47Speaker 1: is not according to your faith while you are talking,
- 2:00:50Speaker 1: but according to your faith while you are working. You
- 2:00:53Speaker 1: cannot impress the mind of God by having a special
- 2:00:56Speaker 1: sabbath they set apart to tell him what you want
- 2:00:58Speaker 1: and the forgetting him youduring the rest of the week.
- 2:01:01Speaker 1: You cannot impress him by having special hours to go
- 2:01:04Speaker 1: into your closet and pray, if you then dismiss the
- 2:01:07Speaker 1: matter from your mind until the hour of prayer comes again.
- 2:01:10Speaker 1: Oral prayer is well enough and has its effects, especially
- 2:01:14Speaker 1: upon yourself, in clarifying your vision and strengthening your faith.
- 2:01:18Speaker 1: But it is not your oral petitions which get you
- 2:01:21Speaker 1: what you want. In order to get rich, you do
- 2:01:24Speaker 1: not need a sweet hour of prayer. You need to
- 2:01:26Speaker 1: pray without ceasing, and by prayer I me in holding
- 2:01:30Speaker 1: steadily to your vision with the purpose to cause its creation.
- 2:01:33Speaker 1: Into solid form, and the faith that you are doing so,
- 2:01:37Speaker 1: believe that ye receive them. The whole matter turns on
- 2:01:41Speaker 1: receiving once you have clearly formed your vision. When you
- 2:01:44Speaker 1: have formed it, it is well to make an oral
- 2:01:47Speaker 1: statement addressing the Supreme in reverent prayer, and from that
- 2:01:51Speaker 1: moment you must in mind receive what you ask for.
- 2:01:55Speaker 1: Live in the new house, wear the fine clothes, ride
- 2:01:58Speaker 1: in the automobile, gone the journey, and confidently plan for
- 2:02:02Speaker 1: greater journeys. Think and speak of all the things you
- 2:02:05Speaker 1: have asked for in terms of actual present ownership. Imagine
- 2:02:09Speaker 1: an environment and a financial condition exactly as you want them,
- 2:02:13Speaker 1: and live all the time in that imaginary environment and
- 2:02:15Speaker 1: financial condition. Mind, however, that you do not do this
- 2:02:19Speaker 1: as a mere dreamer or castle builder. Hold to the
- 2:02:22Speaker 1: faith that the imaginary is being realized, and to the
- 2:02:25Speaker 1: purpose to realize it. Remember that it is faith and
- 2:02:29Speaker 1: purpose in the use of the imagination which makes the
- 2:02:32Speaker 1: difference between the scientists and the dreamer. And having learned
- 2:02:35Speaker 1: this fact, it is here that you must learn the
- 2:02:38Speaker 1: proper use of the will
