- Jackson: It's the third Saturday in October. We have six top twenty-five matchups, conference championship rematches. We have everything you can ask for, and we're gonna break it down right here. This is the Mic Check Podcast. Davis told me to say that. He I I read it. He texted it to me this morning. He said He said my Davis: Damn, who wrote that? That's pretty good. Matthew: Yeah. Jackson: he said my intros were were garbage, so we had to switch it up. I liked that. It was good. It was kind of like Brad Nestler esque, you know, painting the picture for for what's about to go down. But Alright, now you got me off my rhythm. Welcome to Davis: You definitely you definitely used your like announcing voice there. Jackson: I know, I've never I've never broken that out before, so that that that message kinda triggered something in me, I guess. But you got me up by rhythm. Welcome Davis. We have a a guest, Welcome back, Matthew. Davis: Friend of the pod. Jackson: Yeah, friend of the friend of the show. Matthew: Right at the pod. Recurring guest. Jackson: yeah, I guess last time I didn't I didn't give you your flowers. Matthew is a former college athlete, so some a little more credibility than than two old wash high school guys and me and Davis but Did better I did better on the picks last w last time, so I guess that's some credibility for me. But anyways, we gotta jam pack chat. Davis: It's also worth saying that that when we had Matthew on last time we hit a all time views record by far. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: So maybe we'll have some similar luck. Matthew: I think that I think that was definitely the driving force was me being on the podcast. So we'll see if we can get we'll see if we can break that record again. Davis: Yeah, I like it. Jackson: Yeah. so we have a we have a like jam-packed pod today. We decided that this week there's a lot of big games. So instead of just doing six games to like preview, we're gonna do what, twelve? Is that how many there are? Davis: Yeah, we we typically do the pick six Jackson: Mm-hmm. Davis: named after Jackson. but since we have two quarterbacks on the podcast this week, we're gonna do two pick sixes and cover the top twelve games. Jackson: Yeah, so without further ado, I feel like this is gonna be a longer a longer show, so longer pod. So let's let's jump into it. So a l a little something different we're gonna do this week. got a lot of you guys texting me, Davis. I'm sure you have people blowing your phone up. We have not been the greatest at the pick six, but we're coming along, we're getting better, we're both around five hundred, but I'm tired of getting badgered, so let's let's see you guys do it. All right? Let's let's see the let's see some of the comments section, see what you all can do. So pick six games, just comment your your six picks for each of the games. obviously their spread, it's not like straight winners, so if you say Ohio State BYU, I'm gonna assume that you're talking about Ohio State covering and BYU covering, not just, you know, outright winners. So spread challenge. The winner will have their picks featured on the recap show. And I was thinking maybe I I don't know, we haven't talked about this yet, Davis, but maybe we can give them the opportunity to maybe give their place the week for the next week. Davis: I like that. Jackson: Yeah, and and and maybe three plays the week and featured on the the preview show. So I don't know. Something something we we thought of. Yeah. Yeah. Davis: Yeah. make do it twice in a row. Everybody can get lucky once. you get lucky and you hit the the pick six games, we're gonna see if you can do it again with plays of the week. So I like that. That was a good idea. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah. So yeah, get in the comment section. Give me your picks and don't don't miss the tiebreaker there at the bottom. so if someone is tied, which I'm sure a lot of people will be tied given there's only six games, the total points scored in the Ohio State Indiana game is the tiebreaker. So make sure to include that. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: But yeah, just a little fun contest for for the people watching. Davis: And make sure y'all comment before the first game on Saturday. Jackson: Yes. Good good thought. I would have probably forgotten. Davis: I I ha I had to put that out there. Somebody would comment on Matthew: Yeah. Davis: like Monday night. Jackson: Yeah, good idea. Alright, so our first game of the week. Number four Ohio State, traveling to Indiana to take on the Hoosiers, who were number five in the country. Spread here is Ohio State minus three and a half. This is a rematch of the Big Ten Championship game last year, where Indiana got the best of Ohio State. Over under is fifty-one. What you guys what you guys thinking for this one? Davis: So this is actually the third straight year where both these teams match up as top five teams. Definitely didn't Jackson: Yeah. Davis: expect to say that like three or four years ago. it's incredible what Indiana has done and turned this program around. I think they're they're what, twenty two straight wins coming into this? Jackson: Yeah, yeah, they're close to the Big Ten record, I believe. Matthew: I believe if they win this game they tie Ohio State's twenty three games. Jackson: Okay. Yeah, so it's two teams that are both ranked in the top five. Ohio State does have the one loss against Texas, but just getting into it. To me, these two teams are like very different. Ohio State's kinda taking care of business against the lesser opponents, the teams they played. And Indiana's kinda looked looked a little rough against their their weak non con schedule that has been So famously broadcasted throughout the college football world, I feel like. So, yeah. The game on the road last week, Indiana almost lost to Nebraska. Nebraska had them on the ropes. Davis and I talked about that the big plays at the end really were what ultimately pushed them over the finish line. But other than that, I feel like Nebraska kinda had them for most of that game. So it'll be interesting to see if Indiana kinda shakes out of whatever lull they've been in and can put up a fight against Ohio State. Davis: Yeah. Matthew: Yeah, I think that you know, you have Jeremiah Smith who's the odds on favor to be the Heisman trophy winner so far through the season. you're not gonna stop him if you're Indiana, but all they have to limit him as much as they can and just keep him from having like a crazy monster game. I he's gonna get his catches, he's gonna get his yards, he's done that all year. But you've gotta take away the rest of the offense if you're gonna have a chance in this game if you're Indiana. they've been good at stopping the run all year. the number seven rush defense only allowing seventy-five yards a game. Ohio State has been a little iffy running the ball. just ha having just 165 yards a game on average. Like it'll be interesting to see if they can generate enough push against this Indiana front seven to support their passing game. Davis: Yeah, like you said, Indiana's been great against the run. Ohio State's really struggled, but you know, that offense runs through Jeremiah Smith and Julian Saiyan. one interesting thing is that Indiana actually ranks a hundred and fifth in explosive pass rate given up per game. So, if Ohio State can find Jeremiah Smith deep, which, you know, they always they'll test it early. think that Ohio State, if they connect, they Jackson: Take the point. Davis: can come out to a early lead against Indiana. Jackson: Yeah, and and I mentioned it a second ago. I I think obviously this is the the best team that Indiana has faced so far this season. people are giving Josh Hoover a lot of praise for what he's done so far. I know he's kind of people think he's fixed the turnover problem that he had, coming over from T C U. That was a big issue when they went after him in the portal. And honestly I really think it's because he hasn't been tested much. I mean They just they just haven't played anybody. And I think people are giving Nebraska a lot of credit for what they did last week against Indiana. But I think to me it's more of like maybe maybe Nebraska is like who we thought they were. We talked about them being five and and we all expected them to be five and 'cause they didn't play anybody and You know, we expected the loss to Indiana and people are saying, Nebraska's pretty good now 'cause they only lost to Indiana by three points, but maybe Nebraska is who we thought they were and Indiana is a little bit worse than than people think. So I'm not high on Indiana in this game. I know they kinda lean on their run game a lot to to try to pass the ball and and give Hoover those easy windows and kind of scheme things up for him to where he doesn't have to make a read. So Indiana's rush defenses that they face so far this season. Here's their rankings. North Texas ranks seventy-sixth. Howard is FCS school. They're not ranked. Western Kentucky, 132nd. Northwestern, 1011th. Rutgers, 138th, which is last. Nebraska, thirty-sixth, which, you know, they saw they sh we s they struggled last week against Nebraska. And then Ohio State ranks seventeenth. So I think it's gonna be a little bit of a wake up call for Indiana. I don't think they're gonna be able to run the ball well against Ohio State. And I think it's gonna force Josh Hoover to have to make some throws with his arms. So Davis: All right. You got the first pick here, I'll let you go. Jackson: Yeah, so I think that that's that makes that made it pretty clear who I'm picking. I'm not high on Josh Hoover. I think the talent is just too much. I think Ohio State gets the win here and covers the spread. I think also the redemption factor is is big in this game. You know, Ohio State lost in the Big Ten Championship to Indiana. I just I don't think there's, you know, nothing. I think there's something to that, I guess is what I'm saying. So ultimately I think it comes down to who has the better quarterback, and I think that's Julian Sands. Davis: Okay. I all I heard from you last week was how bad Josh Hoover was and I think you're not giving them enough cred credit. So I started to deep dive into the numbers a little bit and I wanna get your opinion on some things. So I'm gonna share my screen real quick. Jackson: You gonna try to expose me? Matthew: Yeah. Davis: I'm not trying to expose you. I'm just I'm just gonna get your thoughts on some stuff. Okay. So you talked about Josh Hoover's stats, and you didn't think that he was playing up to I guess what your expectations were of him and you think he struck struggled. So through the first three games against P4 opponents, he has a seventy percent completion percentage, seven hundred and fifteen yards, which come out to about two hundred and thirty-eight pass yards per game, nine point two yards per attempt, and eight touchdowns. I mean these numbers seem pretty good. Jackson: Look, I I just think it's not I mean the okay, so the p that's against P four schools? Davis: This is against P four schools. Jackson: Alright, so we're talking Northwestern, Rutgers and Nebraska? That's that's what we're talking about here. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Yeah, I just I mean yes, he Davis: All right, so here here here's the kicker. This was actually the first three games of Fernando Mendoza's season last year against P4 schools. This Jackson: Yeah, so Davis: is Josh Hoover's actual first three games. You have a little less completion percentage, you have the same exact yards, almost the same exact yards per attempt, one less touchdown, and two less interceptions. Jackson: Who who did Mendoza play his first? Davis: We don't have to get into that. Jackson: so well let me just save myself real quick because I don't know if we'll get that I think it may cut out with with the screen sharing thing. So Fernando Mendoza's first four games against P4 schools last year were Illinois, Iowa, who had a great defense last year, vintage Iowa defense that was on the road. On the road at Oregon and then Michigan State. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: So Gotcha. Davis: Yeah, I'm g I'm glad you I'm glad you brought that up. I didn't wanna I didn't wanna completely derail your point, but I do think I do think that Josh Hoover has been good. he ranks third in the Big Ten in completion percentage. I know you've devalued the competition that he's played, but regardless, he ranks second in yards per attempt in the Big Ten. one thing that is kind of In his Achilles heel is that he struggled against pressure. When pressured, that 69.5 completion percentage actually drops to 31.6, which is second to last in the Big Ten. so very evident just how bad he is against pressure. But I think that the silver lining here is that believe it or not, Ohio State's defense is actually. hadn't been great generating pressures. out of the 67 P4 teams, Ohio State's defense ranks 55th in sacks and 62nd in pressure rate. So Indiana's O line is good. Ohio State, while their defense is very good, they don't they aren't generating the pressure like we're used to. I think that we see a good day out of Josh Hoover. If I'm wrong, I expect to hear it from you on the next the next episode. But I like Indiana with the points here at home. I think these two teams are similar. So give yeah, give me the points. Jackson: You will hear it. And just to briefly touch back on the Mendoza thing, I think the biggest difference from last year's Indiana team to this year's Indiana team is the rushing game. I mean, that's the reason why I just read off how bad the rush defense they've faced so far this season have been. Because the first real team they they played that was decent against the run was Nebraska. Other than that, the second best team was North Texas. So we haven't really seen it yet with Indiana because of their their crappy non con. So but just to me so far this season I think the rushing offense for Indiana is not what it was. And I think last year they had the balance and they had the since they had the running game it just opened up a lot for Mendoza on the back end. So I think that was why he was able to be as successful as he was. But I'll shut up now. Matthew, what do you got? Matthew: Yeah. I I I agree with Jackson. I'm choosing to evaluate Josh Hoover on the Nebraska game more heavily than the other power four teams that he's played. And then and just in general evaluat mostly against Nebraska offensively, you know, sixty five yards on the ground and Hoover, if you take away those two explosive passes, he's ten for twenty for Probably a hundred and thirty yards. He had seventy five yard Davis: Yeah, a hundred and twenty yards less. Matthew: Yeah. Drop off a hundred and twenty yards, hundred and four so ten for t ten for twenty for a hundred and forty yards through most of that game. you can give him credit for the RPO, you know, seventy five yarder I guess, but the fourth down where they just didn't cover anybody and he got essentially forty free yards passing. I was not I was not overly impressed with Indiana. I think that if they struggle to run the ball against Ohio State, then even though they're not the best at getting pressure on the quarterback, I think it'll put them in obvious passing downs and then you're gonna have to make Josh Hoover go beat you on obvious passing downs and I think they'll have a little bit more success getting pressure on him. so I I I'm also leaning Ohio State in the points. I think they're a better team. I think they've shown that they can perform against better competition. You know, Indiana again, we've only had one game and like Jackson said, we don't really know if Nebraska is good because both of those teams, that's really the only good game that they played was against each other. So they both kind of you know it was it was a tight game, so we don't really know much about those teams yet until they play a second good team. we think they're good, but we don't know. So I'm gonna I'm gonna lean Ohio State. Jackson: Alright, next game. Number two, Notre Dame travels to Provo to face number eight BYU. This is a night game, seven thirty PM Eastern time kick, which is I believe five thirty local time. spread here, Notre Dame minus ten and a half over under forty six and a half. So yeah, what y'all got? Davis: Yeah. So is worth noting BYU's leading rusher and last year's Big Ten player of the year, LJ Martin, their running back, out for this game. He I think it was a ankle or lower leg injury two weeks ago. So he is out for this game. And then Notre Dame's all American corner, Leonard Moore is questionable. when I checked earlier this morning with the concussion he missed last week. I did not check before we we started recording, but yeah, as of this morning, he was questionable. obviously two great players. if Leonard Moore is in in the game, then it it'll definitely have a a a impact. Jackson: Yeah. So I hate to keep bringing this up, but it it's valid when you're trying to analyze a game and give a preview on a big game like this. Notre Dame just has really not played very many good teams. I mean North Carolina was the closest game they played. That was an eleven point game on the road. But other than that it just the schedule hasn't been there, so it's kinda hard to evaluate Notre Dame. But with that being said, they have really just dominated most of the teams they played. The their their defense is exceptional, their offense is good. One thing I notice with their offense is is they really try to they're more efficient than they are explosive. They try to stay ahead of the change, they don't turn the ball over. the one hole I did find in in the Notre Dame offense is that their third down conversion rate is only thirty nine point five percent, which is eighty third in the country. So, maybe for BYU the key to the game is is probably stopping that run game and making CJ Carr make plays with his arms, but e even then I I I don't I don't see them just stopping Notre Dame. yeah. I i Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Notre Dame's good. Th there's no there's no arguing that, but it's it's Davis: Yeah. Jackson: hard to tell how good they are given the given the weak weaker competition. Davis: Yeah, and I'm glad that Matthew: Yeah. Davis: you kind of mentioned that explosive play rate. I'll take it one step further. Notre Dame plays at the hundred and first 101st slowest pace in college football. BYU plays at the 135th slowest. Notre Dame doesn't rank well in explosive play rate, neither does BYU. Notre Dame only has one turnover all year. BYU only has three. So I really think that this is gonna be like a grinded out physical game. Every yard is earned. I think Notre Dame wins, but you you give me that type of game and then you say the spread is ten and a half and I think that that's too much. I like Notre Dame to win, but don't think they'll cover. Jackson: I agree with you. I'm gonna take the BYU and the and the points too. I just think at home I think Kalani Sataki is a really good coach. BYU plays exceptionally well at home. it's a night game in Provo. And one thing I think to look out for is they're gonna have to really run bare Bachmaier in this game. Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: and i if you're BYU it's gotta work. I mean we mentioned both these teams wanna slow the ball down and control the pace, but I looked into Notre Dame's closest game against North Carolina and UNC's passing success rate was fifty-two percent, which is I mean, not terrible against that defense, but their rushing success rate was twenty-three percent. which is not good. So I think BYU may have a harder time running the ball, but I think one thing you have to remember with BYU, it's not just running between the tackles and even running with the running back. They get creative with Bear Bachmeyer and how they run him and how they call their run plays. So I think that's gonna be big if you're Notre Dame if you if you want to control this game is stopping the run and making Bear Bachmar use his arm and and beat you through the ear. So yeah, I I I think it's gonna be closer than ten. I like Notre Dame to win, but I think I think BY you can keep it close. Davis: On that point about, BYU needing to run the ball. so in the one game without LJ Martin last week, they ran Bear Bachmeyer Moore. He had nine carries for 109 yards. However, their backup running back, Journey Tonga and Preston Rex, it was kind of a backfield by committee, rushed for 40 yards on 14 combined rushes. So definitely a different rushing team without LJ Martin. Matthew: I I think that's the biggest issue for me, with BYU. I think too much is gonna be put on Bear Bachmeyer's shoulders, having to, you know, play a team that's has a better talent profile than you and you don't have your best running back, who's an all American who you've leaned on consistently. I just don't I I I don't know if he's Jackson: No. Matthew: I think by the second half I think is where is where Notre Dame starts to pull away. because I just think he runs out of gas and i it's too much is on his shoulders and I know some of Notre Dame's numbers are skewed based on competition, but I I just think that they've really h handled their business. And BYU's a top ten team, you know, but they're still, a ten and a half point underdog, for a reason. I think there's just a a talent difference in these teams. I think it could be similar to the Wisconsin game for Notre Dame. where it's close early and they ha you know, maybe they have a turnover or make a special teams play to keep themselves in the game. but I think in the second half BYU just gets worn down and I I think they that Notre Dame covers slightly. I'm thinking like thirteen, fourteen points. Davis: Yeah. I went back and forth on that game. Jackson: Alright, next game. Number six, Alabama. Going to Nealan Stadium in Knoxville, Tennessee to play the Vols. 3 30 p.m. Eastern Time kick. This one the spread is Bama, minus eight and a half over underset of fifty-one and a half. So most people know that this is a big rivalry game. And I think when you look at the numbers You can make an argument for for both. I mean, you can make most people would probably lean Bama heavy in this, but I think you can make a slight argument for Tennessee, but I you know, models give you numbers. college football is played on field. and it does not take into account like emotion and rivalry games and stuff like that. So to me this this game is scary if you're an Alabama fan, which I am. Tennessee anchored by their defense, but they have not seen an offense like Bama's yet. one key for Alabama is racing. Delgate, their center, is questionable in this game. And Ryan Coleman Williams is now out. another big injury for Bama is their defensive tackle. Kendrick Bingley Jones is also out in this game. So some key injuries there for Bama as they go on the road to play Tennessee. Matthew: Yeah, and and Terrence Green, I think, was also injured in the Georgia game. I haven't seen the injury report, but he's a big defensive tackle, big body. Jackson: I'm sorry. I'm sorry. You're right. It's Terrence Green. It's Terrence Green. Sorry. Got my got my D tackles confused. Terrence Green is also out for this game for Alabama the D tackle. Matthew: Okay. Well well that was gonna be one of my keys was Terrence Green being able to play in this game because he's a giant Jackson: Yeah it's Matthew: human being who eats up blockers in the run game and our other defensive tackles are talented but they're a little bit undersized compared to him and i i i I think it really impacted our run defense in the second half against Georgia, when he went out of the game. So I think it's gonna be a struggle, to stop the run. I think Alabama's linebackers were misfitting a lot last week and so we may have to put more bodies in the box to stop this run game. But I just don't know if Tennessee's quarterback, whoever that is, is gonna be able to take advantage of that in the past game because they've struggled so much, over the first few weeks. Jackson: Yeah, so y you mentioned the quarterback thing. We don't know who we're gonna see. We've heard Faison Brandon's injury is getting better and that he could play, but I would say it's probably gonna be McIntyre in this game. Tennessee hadn't looked great offensively. They haven't been able to pass the ball well. I feel like they they lean more on their rushing attack, which Alabama has been better against in the past. Obviously, you know, missing a big big D tackle. as one of the anchors in in your defense and one of the anchors in in stopping that run game is is gonna be a big deal. So to me if you're Bama you have to make Tennessee throw the ball and it's gonna be harder to do that when you're missing a key piece along the defensive line. So on the flip side of that I think you're a true freshman Keelan Russell going into Nealon Stadium which is known as one of the hardest places to play in the country. So that is gonna be new for him. it's gonna be difficult. without your starting center if he ends up being out. So look for some some possible, unfortunate but possible penalties on Alabama to start them behind the chains. So yeah, no Ryan Coleman Williams, your number one target. So th there's there's bits and pieces there that that give Tennessee a a slight edge in the game and and give them some hope and pull them off the upset. Matthew: And I think all also the Delgati, if he's unable to play I think their best defensive lineman is a defensive tackle, Xavier Gilliam, he is an elite pass rusher and when Keelan has had problems is when the rush has come up the middle. When Davis: Mm-hmm. Matthew: it when it's when there's outside rushers, he's pretty good at evading, but when When you're the center and the guards are getting pushed back into his feet, that's when he gets uncomfortable and he gets antsy and that's what caused problems in the first half of the Kentucky game and in the Georgia game. Davis: Yeah. So I actually called out Xavier Gilliam as my best defensive player in college football through six weeks. he's been an absolute game wrecker. so that was one of my players to look out for, especially given the fact that that Keelan has been sacked fifteen times. and Tennessee actually leads the SEC in sacks. So something to look out for there. I know I kind of just praise Tennessee's defense. but part of me questions if their defense is as good as we think. I guess the first three games has we've each now talked about is the team actually as good as we think they are based on the competition? I guess it's now my turn to bring out that. so Their defense has gone up against some struggling offenses. Georgia Tech, Texas, who we didn't think that that would they would be one, but they are. So maybe those those defensive numbers are inflated a little bit. because of that, I I don't think they're gonna be able to slow down Alabama's offense. I know Tennessee runs the ball well and Alabama just got ran on by Georgia. But I'm thinking that Alabama will be enough to cover. So give me the Alabama minus eight and half. And I think you actually had the first pick here. Jackson: Yeah, so it it pains me to put that logo by my name, but I'm gonna take Tennessee in the points. I think Bama wins. I just think it's closer than eight. I think the freshman starting quarterback, no wide receiver one, possibly no center, could have a huge impact for Bama's offense. Watch out for penalties. It's been an issue here for Alabama in the past. Josh Heipel won his last two games at Nealand Stadium against Alabama, so maybe he has something cooking for for Calen DeBore in Alabama. So yeah, I like I like Davis: If you're Alabama, you're hoping for Faison Brandon, right? Jackson: Probably. I mean I don't like the the athleticism that he brings versus George McIntyre. I know the numbers don't exactly say this, but I feel like our defense is built to stop a a run first, like old school college football team versus a like air it out dual threat quarterback guy. I just think that's kind of that's kinda where things could go s sideways. where you I know Georgia just beat Alabama last week running that exact style, but that's Georgia. I think their offensive line, their quarterback and their talent is far superior than what Tennessee is trotting out there on on Saturday. So but yeah, I I just think Josh Hypel being an offensive guy will be able to scheme some stuff up. I know we haven't seen it yet, but it's the Bama game. It's a rivalry game. I think the points will be will be there for Tennessee. I'm thinking they're gonna score in the twenties. I don't think Bama really is gonna get into the mid thirties. So give me Tennessee to cover the eight and a half. Matthew: Yeah. I went back and forth on this, especially with what I think are unfortunately key injury areas for Bama. I'm not as worried about wide receiver. I think we have decent depth there, but Delgotti and Terrence Green being potentially out, I think those are just two unfortunately bad position groups for us to be missing players. I think we'll be alright though. I think the the formula for beating Alabama in the past, like Jackson said, has been a a good quarterback. That's dual threat a lot of the times, but not always. Jackson: North time. Matthew: and I just don't think that with whoever Tennessee rolls out as their starting quarterback, we'll be good enough. to beat our defense, I think that we'll force turnovers and I think we'll win. I think Jackson: both. Matthew: we'll cover the eight and a half. I think this is a prove it game for Alabama Jackson: We can have to. Matthew: to prove that they're on the elite level in the top tier of college football. This is a game that the elite teams after losing in a tough nail biter at home, they come out and handle business the next week. So this is a proven game for all of them. Jackson: Next game, number thirteen, Missouri versus number nine, Ole Miss. This one is in Oxford. Spread is Ole Miss, minus six, over under is fifty-eight and a half. Missouri's coming off some big wins. They Davis: Yeah. Jackson: are they have a lot of momentum. They're a good team. Austin Simmons returns to Oxford, a place where he got replaced by Trinidad Chambliss. So yeah, this this game has called trouble playoff implications. lot of a lot of drama involved that some people may not realize. So what do Davis: Mm-hmm. Jackson: you guys think for this one? Davis: Yeah. So, ear earlier this week I called Ole Miss the most overrated team in the country. mainly because of their their defense. Their defense is atrocious. and then Ole Miss, So Kewan Lacey's been out for two games. He came back last week, but when he was not in the game, they really struggled to run the ball. Now that he's back, they should be able to run the ball better. But Missouri's defense has one of the best rushing defenses in the league, led by Nick Rodriguez and Robert Woodyard. They rank fifth in EPA per play Jackson: Mm. Davis: and second in Havoc rate. So I'm counting on Missouri's defense to make Ole Miss one dimensional, where we know that Jackson: I think Davis: when the burden is on Trinidad Shameless, he hasn't been able to I don't know, maybe light it up as much as he was when Keywan Lacey was playing. And for that reason, I think the six is too much. I think that Missouri keeps it close. give me Ole Miss to win, but Missouri to cover. Jackson: You think old Miss Wentz? Davis: I do think I'll miss went. I think it's a close game. Matthew: I think this is an intriguing matchup because it's kind of a a best on worst matchups, with the strength of Trinidad Hamilton their passing game, versus a bottom third passing defense for Missouri. And on the other side you have Missouri and Jamal Roberts who've, have an explosive run game against a really, really putrid Ole Miss Rush defense. So I think it's gonna be a lot of explosive plays and a lot of back and forth in this game. Jackson: Yeah, I think this game's gonna be high scoring. you guys have mentioned Missouri has been just really running the ball well and Ole Miss it's one of their big weaknesses. They can't stop the run. That's really why we saw the the big loss against Florida on the road is is Florida just runs the ball really well. And when Ole Miss plays teams that run the ball really well, they just don't do as well. They rank eighty second in EPA per play, eighty seventh in success rate, ninety first in rush EPA and you know List goes on. Their rush defense isn't good. They've allowed explosive plays. But they have a man on the other side of the ball named Trinidad Chambless, who I think is the best quarterback in the country. Missouri, I said they've they've won three big, big games, and they have, but those three big games were one Mississippi on the road. Or sorry, I guess they've won two big games. They've played three big games. They've won two of them. So They played Mississippi State on the road and lost. They played Florida at home and won. They played A and at home and won. So the one game they lost, the quarterback was Camario Taylor. He is a good passing quarterback. He is a very good passer. He was, you know, talked about in the Heisman race. I know he didn't have the best game against Bama, but still, he's a pass first guy. The two games that they won, Florida is a run first team, AM is a run first team, I guess. AM is is garbage, but Florida. Florida, if they cannot run the ball, they have not shown to be very good. So I think they're gonna run into a little bit of their weakness. I think Trinidad Chandler's is gonna be able to really light that defense up. I think Old Miss is gonna be able to score some points. And I also think Missouri will score some points. Old Miss's defense has had a lot of holes, but at the end of the day, I think with Pete Golding, their head coach being a defensive guy. He will find ways for this team to stop the run. They had a good week last week. I know it was Vandy, but they showed some some promise there. So I think Olmus wins. I think they cover it. I just think with them scoring so many points, to cover six, I just think the points aren't as meaningful w when when you're scoring that many. So give me Olmus to cover this week. Davis: You think the overheads too? Jackson: Yes. It was almo old Miss Team Total was almost one of my plays of the week. Davis: Yeah, so this is the fifth highest over under on the week. Jackson: Yeah. Another thing to kind of just a fun fact, Eli Drinkwoods has won road win against the SE C ring team in his tenure at All Mist. So Matthew: I think this is gonna be a coin flip game. I think it's gonna be a loss going back and forth. Fourth, I talked about that earlier, with the best on worst matchups. I think it's gonna be the the team who wins this game is gonna be the one that finds the most balance on offense. and I think I trust Austin Simmons a little bit more. He yeah, we we haven't talked about the revenge factor. He's coming back to Ole Miss, where he was replaced. If Keewan Lacey plays in this game, I I just don't know if, you know, he's gonna be full strength, if he's gonna be able to to to impact this game as much as he might like to, and he might. but for now, based on the information we have, I'm gonna I'm gonna go with Missouri and take the points. I just think it's a coin flip, so I'm gonna take the points. Jackson: All right, number sixteen, Mississippi State. LSU line here is LSU minus fourteen and a half. Over under is fifty seven and a half. And I've got to think that Camaro Taylor is not playing. the injured. Davis: This number is driven by the uncertainty around Camario Taylor. As soon as he's Jackson: Right. Davis: announced as he's in, this number drops to nine. And whenever it's announced that he's out, this number probably goes to seventeen. So I didn't really have a whole lot of analysis here. it Matthew: Yeah. Davis: was just whether or not he plays. And Vegas is just splitting the middle on the two outcomes of Either he does or he doesn't. Matthew: Do we have the injury report for Jackson: Yes. Yeah, he's questionable. Matthew: what about Bothwell? Jackson: Yeah. Matthew: I think that's also maybe j not just as impact. Jackson: They're both questionable. Camaro Taylor and Fluff Bothwell are both questionable. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: So yeah, I mean I'm with you, Davis. I I didn't put much analysis into it because if Camario plays, I like the number. If he doesn't, I don't like the number. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: if he plays, I'll I'll give a brief, you know, I guess analysis if he plays. I think they'll be able to move the ball in LSU. I mean we saw Kentucky last week put up thirty five on him and I think Mississippi State's got a pretty dang good offense when he's in. he didn't look good against Bama, but th they just shot themselves in the foot over and over and over again. I mean the offense was really moving at times. They just couldn't avoid the turnovers and and couldn't convert some some third downs there. But really the offense did move against Alabama. The score doesn't reflect it, but they didn't look very bad. So if he plays, I think they'll be able to hang around with LSU. But if he doesn't play, I think trotting in a a new quarterback into into Death Valley for the first time is is not gonna go well. So if he doesn't play, I like LSU. If he does play, I will definitely take Mississippi State. Davis: Yeah, I think we're all on board of we're not touching this game. I'm not gonna try to like predict whether he or not he plays. I would rather wait, see what his status is and then reevaluate based on the spread 'cause it's I mean the spread is going to change. but for now, I'll just I'll yeah, I guess I'll do the plus fourteen and a half. Jackson: Yeah, thing. I'll I'll take it for now. We'll we'll see. Davis: I'm hoping he plays, so maybe I'm wishful thinking. Jackson: Same. Same. Matthew: This is a s yeah, like I agree. I think this is a stay away game until we you get news on on Camario and Fluff. I'm gonna try to handicap it without knowing. so let's just let's like assume that they don't play. I don't know anything about Mississippi State's backup quarterback, but I do know their offense is a bit of a system offense. I mean it's not gonna change what they're trying to do. Yeah, you're not gonna have, you know, Super Camario back there running the offense, but They're gonna try to spread you out. They still have their fast receivers on the outside. they're still gonna try to make you declare whether you're playing the pass or the run. and so I think because of that, even if they have a backup quarterback and with some of the injuries on L S U's defense, I think they could still find enough success to keep it within the two touchdowns. So that was kinda Jackson: Yeah, the one caveat to that argument is with Camario Taylor you have to honor the deep stuff. whereas if Camario Taylor's not in and you can just press up and load the box and have, you know, confidence that your secondaries will be able to defend anything over the top if they do decide to go deep, but Matthew: Those receivers are still fast, Davis: Yeah. Matthew: whether Camaro's there or not. Davis: Yeah. Yeah. Jackson: They are, but still gotta put it in the right spot with a hundred thousand people yawning at you. But Matthew: I agree. I'm not saying they're gonna win or keep it close. I just think LSU fourteen and a half is too many points for them the way they're playing. Davis: Yeah. So we're all all on Mississippi there. Jackson: All right. Next game. Big game in terms of Big Twelve Conference Championship implications. Number eighteen, Oklahoma State playing number twenty Houston. this one is in Houston. Line here is Houston minus four and half over under sixty-two and a Davis: So I think this is actually the highest over on or no, sorry, second highest. Right behind Colorado State and Texas State, the elite offenses with those two teams. Jackson: Yeah, Matthew: Yeah. Jackson: so I I kinda see this as a old school Big Twelve shootout game. none of these teams have really been great on defense. Yeah, w w you guys you know, any other comments other than the the good offenses and the not so great defenses? Matthew: I think both these quarterbacks Davis: Yeah. Matthew: I think that this whoever loses it's a big game because whoever loses it I think is putting themselves behind the eight ball in the Big Twelve. The winner doesn't necessarily have an inside track 'cause you got a bunch of teams up there, but if you drop this game specifically Houston, it's gonna be a a tough climb back to to see if they can make it to the the Big Twelve championship game. I think it's gonna come down to like you it's a shootout I think it's gonna be who gets the stop at the end of the game, who gets the last stop, who makes one the one play at the end of the game. Davis: Yeah. And Houston's been one of the most consistent offenses in terms of generating yards. Oklahoma State kind of does it via explosive plays. Houston has a a great O line coming into the season. They were one of the more experienced units. and it has Connor Wigman playing very well. He's passed for one thousand four hundred and twenty-eight yards, fifteen touchdowns. and only one interception. And then at the other side of the ball you have Drew Mestemaker who's lighting it up as well. this game could go a lot of different ways. Just with the way that Houston is able to be consistent, I guess I would take them just 'cause I trust their offense a little more. so I yeah. Jackson: I'm gonna take Houston as well. I think you mentioned the consistency of their offense, compared to Oklahoma State, which is like you said, leans more on the explosive play. Houston, just to read off some of their rankings. EPA per play tenth, success rate sixth, points per drive ninth, rush success rate fifth, pass EPA fifth. list goes on. Oklahoma State's offense. EPA per play 78th. Success rate 41st. Rush EP 105th. Pass success rate is 22nd, which is, you know, good. But their explosive plays per game ranks fourth. So to me, when you have offense versus offense, I'm going to take the offense that's a little more consistent, especially with Oklahoma State playing on the road. I think it's going to be harder to hit some of those explosives. So give me Houston to cover this week. I think it'll be a good game. Could go either way, but I like Houston to cover at home. Davis: You read my mind and said what I tried to say a lot better than I could have. Matthew: Well Jackson: Do my best. Davis: That's why you're the host. That's why you do the intro. Matthew: Yeah. I'll keep mine simple. I'm also taking Houston. I'm actually gonna take them 'cause I trust their defense a little bit more. they have their number four rush defense in the country, which I don't know if that scales obviously, but statistically they do. and they're at home. So I think that that helps them get one more stop than Oklahoma State gets and allows them to wonder to pull it out. Jackson: All right. Wisconsin going on the road to play number twelve in football. Number twelve, UCLA. Line here is UCLA minus two and a half over under is 43 and a half. So I think by now we all kind of know about UCLA. They want to run the ball, control the game, control the clock. That is their identity. They're a run first team. They rank 11th in rush EPA, they rank 12th in rush success rate. And their fifteen plus yard run rate is ranked seventh at ten percent. So ten percent of the time they have a run of fifteen or more yards. I know Nico is out in this game, but to me for a run first team, that doesn't it's not necessarily a big deal. Their pass EPAs while Nico was there ranked 113th and their pass success rate ranked ninety-fifth. So not exactly a big drop off for for UCLA's quarterback in their in their passing offense. Another thing to note for UCLA, as I was doing some deep dives and research into this game, I saw that a lot of fans and people close to the program thought that the guy coming in to replace Nico would actually be Madden Iamala, Nico's little brother, not Ty Diefenbach. I that's probably I probably butch for that, but the Cowpoli transfer who was originally a pit. So we could see another Iamaliava this weekend. Like I said, people people thought it would be him against Oregon, but they decided to go with the Calpola transfer instead. So on the other side of the ball, Wisconsin's defense is not very good against the run. They're sixty-first in a rush EPA, they're thirty-eighth success rate, and they're fifteenth in stopping the fifteen plus yard run. So explosive run plays. Wisconsin should be able to limit some of the big plays, but not necessarily stop UCLA's rushing attack. Their defense also struggles getting to the quarterback. They rank 133rd in sack rate, which, you know, is exactly what you want to hear for UCLA and and trying to back up quarterback out there. So yeah, I I don't think UCLA will have a problem scoring in this game. Wisconsin's offense is one of the least efficient offenses in the country. They rank a hundred and first in success rate. So they'll probably be playing a l behind the sticks a little bit more. it's a team that wants to run first. Thirteenth in rush EPA. That's power four rankings. their leading rusher is actually their quarterback, Colton Joseph. So something else to look out for. Some QB run design plays, a little bit of a different offense if you're Wisconsin. they play extremely slow, ninth slowest pace of play in the country, only averaging fifty three offensive plays per game. They also have a terrible red zone offense ranked ninety seventh and UCLA's red zone D ranks thirteenth. So, with all that being said, and for those of you, you know, it's probably obvious by now, but for these last six games, we each kind of picked two to go super in depth on, and this is one of my games, so that's that's the reason for the rant. I like U C L A. I'm not I'm not really sure why the spread's only two and a half. Like it doesn't make sense to me. So that's Something to watch out for. Vegas always knows more than I do, so yeah. But to me it's pretty clear I think UCLA wins this game. I think there's too much hype and too much excitement behind the program for a team like Wisconsin to come in here and and pull the upset. So giving UCLA. Davis: Yeah. U C L A's running game definitely is the headliner, but their defense is definitely underrated. it ranks top ten in EPA per pass and EPA per rush. I like U C L A too. Matthew: yeah, I don't have super strong feelings on this game. I think it's gonna be a change up for you Cele, obviously, without Nikki and Malayaba. They have a pretty good path to the playoff if if they can get some some wins moving because their schedule's not that tough. I think that this is a weird line, like you guys said. something's just telling me to pick Wisconsin. I think that they've had a couple of good games. They also had a bye week last week, to get prepared. I'm not necessarily super scared of the Rose Bowl UCLA in terms of an away environment. So nothing super analytical. I think that it we could also have a situation similar to the SEC where you go get a big win and then you get a big emotional win and then you get humble the next week. So nothing nothing crazy. I just kinda am leaning Wisconsin. Jackson: Yeah, so one more quick thing to add. Wisconsin is four and one. So you may be thinking, like, well, how are they winning? So they haven't played great teams. They do have a win against Pitt State, but let's just go through it for a sec. So against Michigan State, their quarterback Colton Joseph ran for thirteen times for 144 yards. And once they got up, they kind of put things on cruise control and you know were able to control the game, running the ball and and running the clock. Michigan State only ran for 127 yards. And the quarterback only threw for 103 yards. So, you know, pretty much shut down the run in the past in that game. Against Penn State, so the big game, the big win on Wisconsin's resume. Colton Joseph, their quarterback, threw three picks. and they had to play comeback. They were down 17 to 0 in the Penn State game, and Penn State could not win that game. Rocko back was 12 for 29 for 114 yards and a pick. And Penn State only ran for 119 after being up 17 to 0. So the reason I I read those stats off is because none of these teams are running the ball very well. They're all trying to throw the ball on on this Wisconsin defense, and it's not really working. So I think UCLA is gonna be able to get up and I think they're gonna be able to control the game, as opposed to Michigan State, who never had a lead, and then Penn State, who had the 17-0 lead but couldn't milk it and couldn't end the game because they couldn't run the ball and and stay ahead of the chains. So I think U T L A matches up well for Wisconsin. I think their run game will continue to have success and I think they'll win. So yeah, we can move on. Just wanted to toss that out there. Alright, number 15, Kentucky. Going on the road to play Oklahoma. Kentucky obviously coming off a big win last week against LSU. Oklahoma coming off a win against the number one team in the country on in Texas. Line here is Oklahoma minus seven over-unders 43 and a half. So I feel like this is a game where we both or all three of us know a lot about both these teams. Oklahoma. Has an insane defense, second in EPA per play, fourth in success rate, third in points per drive, and I can go on and on. Their defense is amazing. They scored two non offensive touchdowns last week against Texas, which obviously eventually made the difference in them winning or losing that game. So yeah, the thing with Oklahoma is their their offense is just so bad. They're 103rd in EPA per play. They're last in the power fourth. They ranked sixty eighth the power fourth in that category. They're eighty-eighth success rate, sixty-four in points per drive, and a hundred and thirty-seventh, which is second worse in rush EPA. It's just there's no secret there. I mean, if you if you're gonna play Oklahoma, you have to limit the turnovers and score some points and you and you'll be able to win the game. The offense is not scoring, they're not doing well at all. they've been held to fourteen or fewer in three out of their four FBS games. So yeah, Oklahoma no secret to what what their identity is in in their team. Davis: Yeah, it's also worth noting that Oklahoma's left tackle, Michael Fasusi, and their guard are both questionable against Kentucky. could be a huge difference there. we talked about how good Oklahoma's defense is. Last week we talked about how good LSU's defense was. And Kentucky really surprised me, especially up front. I think that Kentucky's O-line is good enough to be able to move the ball enough to put a little pressure on Oklahoma's offense. Seven is a lot of points. I I just do not trust that Oklahoma offense. You're gonna need some defensive scores and special team scores if Oklahoma wants to win again. but Can't count on that, so I'm gonna go Kentucky plus seven here. Jackson: Yeah, so I'm I'm glad you mentioned the LSU thing because last week we talked about how good LSU's defense was. You and I both. I ended up taking Kentucky off of just straight vibes, but you know, LSU's defense wasn't that good in all those categories, but they were pretty dang close. So I think Kentucky will just be able to score some points. They scored thirty-one against AM, they scored thirty-five against South Carolina, and they scored thirty-five against LSU. So I don't think you're shutting this offense down completely. I think Will Stein's a good play caller. And we'll be able to scheme things up and and find some ways to get the ball in the end zone or or get the ball through the uprights. So yeah, give me Kentucky here. Oklahoma is seven points is too much for for an offense like that to to cover. So yeah, all right with Kentucky. Matthew: Yeah, I I agree. we're all on the same picks again. I think seven is way too many points for a team that had to score two non offensive touchdowns. And I think I read that their defense is scoring just as much of their offense or is outscoring their offense. And I just don't think that Will Stein's gonna let Kentucky make the same mistakes that Arch did. I think he'll scheme enough stuff open and protect the football and not make the mistakes that Texas did last week. it's also an emotional Jackson: It's also. Matthew: rivalry game for Oklahoma they're coming off. so I think seven is way too many points for Oklahoma to be favored by, so I'll take the I'll take the plus seven. Jackson: Alright, Florida going on the road to Austin to play Texas. Two teams kind of going in the wrong direction. Florida coming off back-to-back losses against South Carolina and Missouri. Texas comes off a loss to Oklahoma, 27-24 in the Red River rivalry. Line here is Texas minus 10.5 over under is 51 and a half. What you guys got for this one? Matthew: Yeah, both of these teams are coming off bad losses. One of them disheartening with Florida losing by nineteen to mediocre South Carolina team and Texas a heartbreaking loss to their rival in the Red River shootout. I think both of these teams are doing some soul searching in this game. Texas comes into the season with extremely high expectations, they have new offensive weapons. And a supposedly improved Arch Manning. but Archers look pedestrian through these first games, other than the first the fourth quarter comeback against Ohio State. they just continue to put up subpoor performance off offensively. Defenses look solid, and that's been what they've been leaning on through these first few games. but offensively they just haven't been there. Jackson: I mean Texas, we've said it over and over again, hasn't looked impressive, but I think if you're Florida, people have just kinda cracked the code on how to beat them. You know, they come out of the gates hot against Ole Miss and and just run out of the building and then the last two weeks, South Carolina and Missouri have just really taken it to so yeah, I just think Florida's identity is running the ball. And Texas's defense is a lot better than the two defenses they played in South Carolina and Missouri. So to me, this game plays right into Texas's strengths. They're they're trying to find a rhythm on offense. And y you look at the score last week, Florida score against South Carolina. South Carolina put up thirty eight points and that's an offense that has not been playing to to their standard. So I think this could be a get right game for Texas. I think they'll try to pour it on if they can and really get their momentum going. So I like Texas to cover here against Florida. I just don't think the rushing game will be there for for Florida and I think Texas will make Aaron Philo make plays with his arm and he has shown that he is not able to do that. and especially against defense like Texas. So give me Texas. Davis: Yeah, I agree with everything y'all said. I think Texas wins big here. and then I think we also see a a big game from Arch Manning and Cam Coleman against this very weak secondary from Florida. Matthew: Yeah. Florida has a a total defense in the one hundreds and a hundred the a hundred and thirtieth passing defense. So if Texas can't figure it out against Florida, then it's gonna be a long rest of the season for them as they have a some tough games coming down the stretch. and speaking to what you were talking about with Florida's drastic change w with their inability to have a proficient offense, you know, there have been people saying that they might have some sort of tell or or certain tendencies that they're putting on film, that defenses are picking up on because it's been such like you said, it's such a drastic change in in how they've performed. I imagine somewhere all after two weeks in a row of it, i it has to be deep deep diving into the into the film to try to make some changes offensively, to maybe break some tells, to to to try to get some momentum with their offense because it's just been it's been really bad against teams that are Missouri is what is good but but South Carolina has not been known for to be a strong defensive team and they were ten points only scored ten points through three plus quarters I think of that game. So bottom line I don't really trust both of these team either of these teams, but I think Texas has the talent advantage. and they have the only unit in this game that I trust and that's their defense. So I'll take Texas to cover the ten and a half points and and have a improved day on offense. Jackson: Yeah, even if you know Florida figured out what they're tipping or if they are doing something like that, it's gonna be hard to know whether or not you figured it out against a team like Texas. So Davis: Yeah. It doesn't matter who you put in front of Matthew: Not the best get right. Davis: Colin Simmons. He's gonna have himself a day. But Florida's o both of their offensive tackles have struggled recently, and they both rank bottom six in the SEC in pass block rate. so just another bad matchup here and another reason Jackson: Yeah. Davis: that I like Texas Big. Jackson: All right, Nebraska facing Oregon in Eugene. Line here is Oregon minus seven and a half over under is fifty two and a half. What were we thinking? Matthew: these are two programs that also had sloppy losses last week. but Nebraska did show some life against Indiana despite the loss. I think they're for real. Oregon had came under the seizure with national championship expectations. but that necessarily has not really worked out for them. They already have two losses before the meat and potatoes of their schedule. I think Nebraska's gonna need to come into this game leaning on their run game with true freshman running back Jamal Rule and Anthony Calandria, their quarterback. That has been what's kept them on schedule this year. they are currently converting on fifty-two point four percent of their third downs, which ranks ninth best in the country. but Oregon Jackson: Okay. Matthew: also has a pretty stingy run defense, so they're only allowing 118 yards a game. And they're number two in third down defense, only allowing twenty two point one percent. So it's gonna be a battle of strengths, in this game. On the other side of the ball, Nebraska's defense has showed that they're legit. other than the few explosive plays in in h losing in heartbreaking fashion, I'd say their defense played pretty well, only allowing Indiana's offense sixty five yards of rushing. so for Oregon, it's we don't know who's playing quarterback. I don't believe have we heard anything about Dante Moore or Okay. So you're gonna go Davis: They they've ruled them out. But they have not Jackson: I just Yeah. Davis: said who the who the starter is. Matthew: Yeah. And I don't know I I I don't know who I put in that game. I mean, Ryola sh you know, he's head starts in the past with Nebraska and you'd think that'd be who you'd put in, but he was so bad last week. Davis: Yeah. Matthew: so I don't know. Who who would you guys start? Davis: It's not an understatement to say that he had one of the worst quarterback performances in the last like fifteen years with what he did. I think he was like like I don't even want to butcher it because it was so bad, but he had like forty nine yards on like twenty seven attempts or something crazy. Matthew: Yeah, it was really bad. did not perform well. And they bay venture. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: But on the flip side of that, it's a d you know, this may sound dumb, but Matthew: Okay. Jackson: it's a defense that he's probably pretty familiar with. Most people know that Dylan Reilly came from Nebraska, so it's a defense he saw, he played every day. You know, I feel like if I could have gone against my own defense, thou I would know who to pick on, where to go with the ball. So it's hard when you have a really good defense, but I don't think Nebraska's their defense is good. I don't think it's just stellar. So I'm probably going Matthew: I think you had a pretty good defense, Jackson. I don't know. Jackson: I don't think it's Oklahoma or a or an L S U defense. Davis: I wasn't gonna say anything. Matthew: I would know, I guess. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Yeah, I mean who who have they played? Who who has Nebraska really played that that has had just an exceptional offense? That would be my counter to that. Matthew: No, they I I agree. I don't Davis: I mean Indiana. Matthew: other than Indiana, you have to judge them on the Indiana game. But similar to the Indiana Indiana Jackson: Yeah, but okay. Matthew: analysis, you don't know because both of those pla teams have only played one really tough game and it was against each other. So they could both be really good or they could both be really bad. Or not Jackson: I agree. Matthew: really bad, but not as good as as what it what we expect them to be. So it's it is bit of an unfortunate. Jackson: I agree. Another thing to mention on that Indiana game was there were twenty plus mile an hour wins that game, so it kinda limited Indiana's ability to like take the top off the defense. So Nebraska was able to play a little more underneath. Davis: And Josh Hoover was still able to have those explosive plays even with the wind? Well, he's pretty good. Jackson: Yeah, the the quick the quick slant where he ran for a a million yards. But yeah. yes. Anyways, I'll r I'll go with Riola. Just all it was kind of a roundabout answer to ultimately get to the question you asked. But to me you have to there was he played in the US C game. They scored forty one points and they had success against US C. Davis: I mean he looked good against the US C, yeah. Jackson: I know I know I know where you're going with that, Davis. I know US C's defence is terrible, but You he was a five-star recruit. He g he looked good against USC. It's in there somewhere. Like it's in there somewhere. I I guess you really just go with who you trust more, and that's something only Dan Lanning knows. But yeah. I guess my take on the game, I mentioned the Nebraska thing. we all just talked about it. I don't know if they're good, if Indiana's bad or what, but I just think Oregon has to their backs are against the wall at this point. They're three and two, they can't afford Probably not even one more loss, So I I think Oregon's gonna get it done at home. I think Dan Lanning is going to motivate his team, which he does very well, and I think they're gonna go out there and and cover. And I think they'll win by two touchdowns. So give me Oregon minus seven and a half. Davis: So I will say it is interesting that me and you are both making correlated picks here. I am taking Nebraska and then also taking Indiana. So maybe both those teams are better than we think. And then you're taking the inverse, saying, you know what, maybe neither of these teams are as good as we think. And you took Oregon over Nebraska and then took Ohio State over Indiana. Jackson: Yeah, I think I just think Nebraska is who we thought they were. Which is a team that was gonna go five and and they had a home game at eleven AM against Indiana and they played him a good game and almost won. And Indiana's just not as good as we thought they were. So I think Nebraska's a good team. I just don't think they're a great team going on the road. This game is super late, isn't it? Yeah. Eleven PM Eastern time. I just think everything plays into Oregon's favor, so I like Oregon to get it done. Davis: Yeah. Seven and a half's a lot. Matthew: Yeah. That's my that's my thought. I think seven and a half is is a lot. I just think it's gonna be a close game because nothing from Oregon has shown me that they're gonna come out and dominate and and win by more than one score. So I think Nebraska's defense is for real. I think seven and a half is too many points. That's that was my kind of my deciding factor. So again, Nebraska. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: All right. Davis: Yeah, Nebraska sorry, last point here. Nebraska, good defense Jackson: Go ahead. Davis: and good at running the ball. Matthew: Yeah, and that travels. Davis: Yeah. It travels and you think that you start with seven and a half points, you're you should be able to cover that. Jackson: All right. Two unranked teams, Penn State going to Ann Arbor to play Michigan. Line here is Michigan minus six and a half. Over under, a low one at forty two and a half. Davis, what were we thinking for this one? Davis: Yeah, so this is actually the second lowest over under on the weekend. you touched on it, spread is six and a half. I just struggle with Michigan's offense. excluding the UTEP game, they've scored seventeen against Western Michigan, which there's there may be an asterisk by there. 17 against Oklahoma, 19 against Iowa, 14 against Minnesota. both these defenses are pretty good. Both these offenses are atrocious. I feel like I've been taking the underdog a lot. I'm gonna go with the underdog again here. Jackson: Yeah, so for me i it was hard to it was hard to come around to a six and a half with a Michigan team that just, like you said, is unable to score. I just think with my deep dive on Wisconsin reminding myself that Penn State had a 17-point lead in that game and could not close it out. It just I don't know. It doesn't make me feel good about Penn State. I think Penn State's in trouble. I think the vibes are down. likewise with Michigan. I don't think vibes are good at either school. But ultimately I think the home factor was a big deal for me in which way I decided to go with this game. So I guess I'll take Michigan to cover. Yeah. I mean, that's about all I got. I I I d I don't feel comfortable about either of these teams, so it's hard for me to make a pick here. Davis: Yeah, and you think Matthew: Yeah, I think this is a Davis: that Michigan, given their quarterback is athletic and struggles to throw the ball, that they'd be a better running team that they are than they are, but they're really not. Outside of Bryce Underwood's like explosive runs, they can't run the ball consistently with their running backs. And they can't throw the ball either. So I I mean, this offense is abysmal. It's not even one dimensional. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: They can't do either either thing. Jackson: Yeah, my Michigan pick is more so me saying that Penn State is not going on the road to Ann Arbor and covering six and a half. I don't it says nothing about Michigan the football team. I just don't think with the environment and the way they've been playing, I don't think they're gonna cover a six points per on the road. I don't know how Michigan's gonna score points, but maybe they'll figure it out. Maybe their defense will go to turnover. maybe they'll get get to Rocco back a little bit, so yeah. Matthew: Yeah. These are two pretty down teams. Michigan did have a bye week to get ready for this and maybe get their heads on straight. And they're at home, which they played better at home, I guess. I mean, they lost to Iowa at home, but I think statistically they, you know, play much better than Iowa did in that game and then in the Minnesota game was was away of the of their two losses. So Eileen Michigan here. This is also like Jack said, this is in Ann Arbor. This is a night game. I just don't think Penn State has the talent or the mindset to go in and get a win in the big house at night. also meant to talk about this in the Indiana game, but such a shame that this game is at night and the Indiana House State games at eleven AM. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Yeah, it's unfortunate. It's probably Matthew: Super super Michigan Davis: Gotta love big noon kickoff. Matthew: Just had to had to throw that in there. Brutal big big meaning kick kick off. but yeah. I'll take Michigan I guess. I don't believe either one of these teams, but they're at home so Jackson: last but not least, Virginia going on the road to play number twenty-four SMU line here. SMU minus nine and a half over under fifty one. Davis: Yeah. Yep. So I'm sure we all know SMU, led by Kevin Jennings, has one of the most explosive and best passing offenses in the country. They rank fourth in pass yards per game. they do kind of struggle to run the ball though. they only rank sixty-fourth in rush yards per game. So they put A lot of the burden on Kevin Jennings and he I mean, as as I would too, he's a phenomenal quarterback. He's been in that system for what feels like an eternity now. and then you look on the other side and Virginia, coming off of a win against Syracuse, but their two previous games, their defense really struggled. you start diving into the numbers a little more, and it's the run game that they've struggled with. So against Syracuse, they gave up 161 yards. However, against FSU, they gave up 281 yards on the ground and 247 yards on the ground. So while Virginia's defense has struggled, it's really only been on the run and not with the pass. Their pass defense has has been much better and they rank 10th in pass yards allowed. So I think that this is kind of a matchup where, you know, where Michig or where Virginia struggles with SMU can't really do much to exploit it. So I think we have a a matchup where Virginia can kind of limit SMU's pass game, keep it close. so I like Virginia plus nine and a half here. Jackson: Yeah, I'm gonna take the other side. I I just think SMU is a more complete football team than Virginia is. Virginia coming out of the gate looked well. we saw him get the big win against NC State, which I guess doesn't mean as much as it did at the time, but they struggled. They lost to Fort State thirty eight to seven, lost to West Virginia, those are their two losses thirty eight twenty seven. So to me, I I just think L SMU's offense is is the explosiveness. Playing at home, I think it's gonna be too much for Virginia. I think they'll be able to score. and I think for Virginia, Bo Pribula's running game was a big part of their early success with their offense. And I think he's been a little dinged up lately and has not shown that he has he hasn't run the ball as well as he had. So I think his injuries are gonna be an issue in this game. I think they won't run him as much or If they do, I don't think I don't think it'll be as as successful as they were early on in the season. So I like SMU to kinda run away with this one. I think it's a h maybe a little bit of a higher scoring game. I think SMU gets in the mid thirties, so I just don't think Virginia can hang with them. So give me SMU to to cover this one. Matthew: I had heard he was I had heard Pribule was hurt. I just looked it up. It looks like he is gonna play. I didn't know the extent of the injury, but looks like he's gonna be in. I think that a lot of their offense r relies on him being able to run the ball and I think that there is a recipe of teams beating them who are able to take the run away from him. Nine half is a lot of points. I lean SMU. I think Kevin Jennings who's shown to tur that he can turn the ball over and that may plague them, but he's also shown that he can be a playmaker sometimes. there at home. I lean SMU to cover the matter. Jackson: Yeah, so Prabila did play last game. he's been injured, but he's he's been playing through injury. He threw for a hundred and thirteen yards, eleven for nineteen, a hundred and thirteen yards, and he ran for thirty four yards. So just not the same guy we saw at the beginning of the season. I think that plays a big big factor in this game. Davis: Yeah, that'll definitely be the the difference in the game, no doubt. Matthew: And the SMU looks like they're pretty stingy against the pass, so he's already not he's not a great the best passer, so he may struggle. I don't know. Davis: Yeah. SMU is susceptible against the run, especially against quarterbacks. I mean, they gave up seventy one and a touchdown to Ashton Daniels against Florida State. and then you look at the Louisville game, they gave up forty two yards and a touchdown two Lincoln Kineholts and then going back to their last game. against Boston College, Mason McKenzie, their quarterback, rushed for 74 yards. So I don't know if that's like They're giving up more yards than what those quarterbacks typically run for, or they just happen to go up against two or three good rushing quarterbacks, but it's something to look out for. Jackson: Alright, anything else for this game? All right, we made it through the previews. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Other notable games, I guess. th there are Matthew: Yeah. Jackson: other notable games. Surpris like this is gonna be a great weekend college football. You have Kansas, Kansas Davis: Yeah. Jackson: State, North Carolina, Duke, Auburnut, Georgia, Florida State, Miami, T C U Baylor. any any of these games that you guys wanna touch on briefly? Davis: No. No I'm Jackson: No. All right. Yeah, we'll we'll move on. We've we're going we're going kinda long. I know it's a a mega mega pod, so we'll we'll we'll skip on. Alright, so the the pick six, the the six games that we are calling our pick six for the week. I will briefly, as quickly as I can, run through them. So Davis is on Indiana plus three and a half, me and Matthew are on Ohio State, minus three and a half, Davis and I are on BYU, Matthew's on Notre Dame. Davis and Matthew are on Alabama, minus eight and a half, I'm on Tennessee, plus eight and a half. Davis and Matthew are on Missouri plus five and a half. I'm on Old Miss, minus five and a half. We are all taking Mississippi State plus fourteen and a half. And we are all taking Houston minus four and a half. Matthew, your season record is two and four. We need to get that up a little bit. So hopefully, hopefully you have a good week. Me and Davis are right around 500, so we need we need a good week to to get us over the hump. Matthew: Yeah, I didn't have my regression because I only got to pick one week, so that was my one bad week. Jackson: Yeah. So the other six, I guess we still have these labeled as the page six, but we'll refer to these as the other six. so briefly again, Davis and I are on UCLA minus two and a half, Matthew's taking Wisconsin. We're all on Kentucky, we're all on Texas. Davis and Matthew are on Nebraska, I'm on Oregon. Davis is on Penn State, Matthew and I are on Michigan, and Davis is on Virginia plus nine and a half. Matthew and are taking SMU minus nine and a half. I hope I said that right. I try to do it as fast as I can. If I made a mistake talking, forgive me. Davis: So we all agree on Texas minus seven and a half, Kentucky plus seven and a half, and then w there was one more on the other slide, right? Houston minus four and a half. And it's okay. Jackson: Yeah I guess you could say Miss and State. Matthew: Miss the Davis: I like it. Jackson: All right. Upside check. Davis, you're first. Davis: I'm gonna take Virginia over SMU. That was one of the games that we covered. took against the spread. I think they have a chance to upset too. It is the Jackson: Alright. Davis: low hanging fruit as they were the lowest money line to Jackson: Alright, I to take Arizona State. Texas Tech, we've talked about it before. They've just looked gittable. They played a lot of close games to in the P four games they played. I know Arizona State has not looked great. they they beat Hawaii last week, but they did come off a big loss against Baylor at home, which is not great. I think Cutterbole could be able to get something going against Texas Tech. Like I said, they're gittable. I know it's it's at home for tech, but I'll ride with the plus five hundred and fourteen and a half point spread. Give me Arizona State. Matthew: Taking Georgia Tech. Virginia Tech has not looked good over the past few weeks. They won a one touchdown game against Boston College and then had that heartbreaking loss to Pitt and then lost to a really bad Cal team. And conversely, Georgia Tech started off the season horribly, losing four in a row, and then had their bye week and unveiled their new rambling wreck. Helmets. I don't know if guys have seen those, but they're pretty cool. And Jackson: Yeah, they're cool. Davis: Yeah, I did like those. Matthew: and they got the win last week versus Duke. I think that Brent Key made some changes, some personnel maybe, but but I think it was mostly mental, motivational changes, just getting his team turned around and so I like them the plus Davis: Okay. And you've hit the upset check more times in one week than Jackson has all season. Matthew: That did happen. Jackson: That is true, that is true, but not after this week. I like Arizona State. This is this is one of the ones I feel more confident on. So let's let's see if they can get it done. Matthew: All right. Jackson: I forgot. We have plays of the week. Gosh, all these picks, man. Davis, Davis: Yeah. Jackson: you're first. Davis: Yeah, I like Utah minus 15 and a half against Colorado. Colorado has one of the worst offenses in the Power Four. Utah has a great defense. I think it's as simple as that. This line was lower than I was expecting. it opened up at like 13, so it slowly moved up. So I bet by the time that it closes, it's probably around seventeen. So get it while you can. Jackson: Yeah, I'm gonna take Wake team total over thirty, at Cal. I just think Wake's offense has looked explosive so far this season. They've scored thirty eight, fifty seven, thirty, thirty three, thirty-eight. So, you know, they look good. Gio Lopez is is firing on all cylinders and yeah, Cal's defense has not been exactly what we thought they'd be. Even their offense. I mean, I almost took Wake to cover this game. I just thought maybe the over thirty would would be a better play. Cal has only given up more than thirty one time. That was to UNL V a few weeks ago. But then again they have not played the best offenses. They played Virginia Tech, and Clemson. They gave up twenty four to Clemson. So and then Syracuse was the first game of the season. They gave up twenty one to them. So I think they have not seen an offense like Wake. So yeah, give me Wake team total over thirty. Davis: What was this spread? Do you remember it? Jackson: Nine and a half. the hesitancy here was the the time of this game. This is a late kick on the west coast, so Wake is is going across the country for this one, but still all right with him. Matthew: I had the so so I have the same thought. Clemson played in the same time slot and he still cover beat and covered against Cal. So if Clemson can do it, I know that doesn't sound right. Say if Clemson can do it, Wade can do it, but I think I trust Wake. So I Jackson: Yeah, it's a good point. Matthew: I like your over thirty. I'm taking Oregon State, minus seventeen and a half. Not a lot of analysis. they've covered all six of their games this this year so far. And Braden Atkinson and Justice DeGree have been sensational and so I'm just gonna r ride the wave. Davis: Yep. You're talking about Auburn's next quarterback next year, Barry Atkinson. I'm speaking it into existence. Him him and Jesse Legree are coming over. Matthew: Coming from an Alabama former Alabama Jackson: Up for it. Matthew: head position coach as their head coach, Jamarcus Shepherd is Oregon Davis: Yeah. Matthew: State's head coach. He's Alabama's receivers coach last year, so he might Davis: Yeah. Matthew: be fighting uphill battle. Davis: Well, I ho I don't think that Alabama's gonna be going after but I guess we'll see. but Jackson: Yeah, but he may he he may scare him away from Auburn, yes, I think. Matthew: Yeah, he's like, You don't need to go to Albany I'm like, you don't have to go to Albert. Jackson: Yeah. Davis: Yeah. Yeah. Bear Atkinson is from he went to Mercer last year, so pretty local. I don't know where he went to high school, but he at least went to school in Georgia. Matthew: So we'll see. Davis: All right. I have a I have a blind QB guess, whatever you call it. I know you mentioned it on the pod last episode, so I wanted to bring it up. Jackson: Mic draw the the blind ranking. sorry. Okay, you have another Yeah yeah or not a blind Davis: The blind ranking or whatever. I don't even know what you want to call it. Jackson: ranking, the Yeah, go ahead. Bring pull it out. I know what you're talking about. Davis: Okay. Jackson: A blind resume. Davis: All right, can y'all see my screen? Jackson: Yeah. So for the people not Davis: All right. So Jackson: watching, explain what's going on here. Davis: Okay, so I have Arch Manning on the left and I have a mystery quarterback on the right. so I am comparing their stats. We have Arch Manning has 10 passing touchdowns, mystery quarterback has 11 interceptions, it's five to four. Yards per attempt is 7.7 to 8.2. Arch Manning has a bit higher touchdown percentage. He has a higher A dot. He has more big time throws according to PFF. He has they have similar turnover worthy plays and they have similar PFF passing grades. Jackson: You're not gonna give us the yards, Davis? It's like the biggest like one of the bigger keys like for a quarterback Davis: No, Jackson: st Davis: no, no yards. This this Jackson: Does the guy look like that? Like is that Matthew: Yeah, that was my question 'cause I have a guess based on the shadow. Davis: Can y'all guess who the quarterback shadow is? Matthew: Is it a different shadow than the person? Or is that Davis: Yeah, I was trying to throw y'all off. That's not even who it is, but can y'all guess who the shadow Matthew: Okay. Davis: is? He's a quarterback. Jackson: Nico? Davis: Did you say? Jackson: Nico. Davis: No. Matthew: Bryce Underwood. Davis: It is Bryce Underwood. Do you know who the actual quarterback is though? Jackson: Do that So the shadow is present. Matthew: Right. So the shadow that's that was what I was basing my whole guess on. Davis: Yeah, I was trying to throw y'all off the scent a little bit. I tried to try to find the like most distinguishable silhouette that I could find and it was Bryce Underwood. Jackson: I I know it's someone that I'm not gonna think. Let me let's guess come Matthew: Who wait, who you guys did this last week, right? Jackson: No. Matthew: No. Jackson: I I mentioned something about Arch Manning and John Matir being side by side. Is it John Matir? It's not John Matteer, is it? No, because he Davis: Yeah, John Mateer. Jackson: hasn't thrown for he has not thrown for eleven touchdowns. Matthew: Somebody else did it somebody else did it with John Mateer and it was like identical numbers. Jackson: It it was it was the it was the broadcast the on the in the Texas Oklahoma Matthew: was it? Jackson: game. My guess is Camario Taylor. Davis: It's not Camario Taylor. Matthew, do you have a guess? Jackson: No, no, no, no, no, no. I know who it is. This is Trinidad Chambless. Davis: It is Trinidad Chamberless. Matthew: I was gonna get samurai. Davis: I was being a little disingenuous with the with the comparisons. I didn't put yards. Trinidad did this in one last game. but I thought it would be a a funny comp after you have been, you know, shitting on Arch Manning Jackson: Yeah. I knew it ha as soon as it Davis: and and propping up Trinidad so much. But it is it is interesting to to compare the two. Jackson: Yeah. Yeah, it's interesting Matthew: no, I'm guessing. Jackson: to see. I mean I think yards would be a helpful helpful stat when you're when you're comparing quarterbacks, but yeah. I like the little thing there. Davis: Yeah. It it was a little bit disingenuous, but I thought it'd be fun. Matthew: that was good. Crazy. Jackson: Alright, it is time for the mic drop. We have been off our game on this, so let's get it back rolling. Who wants to go first? Don't all n not everyone at once now. Matthew: I can do it. I can do it. Jackson: All right, go ahead. Matthew: I tried to make it hard 'cause last time you guys got it way too fast. Okay. Davis: I can we can we address what happened on the last time that us three did this and Jackson said that he got it and he was like three seconds after me. We just kinda swept that under the rug and then and never talked about Matthew: That did happen. Davis: it again. Jackson: To be fair, Matthew: Yeah. Jackson: I really thought like it was the exact team at the same Davis: Yeah. Jackson: time. I guess it's a little bit of Matthew: It also came across for me I think you're on a delay to us because you w in the watching the Davis: Yeah. Matthew: the video back, you were way ahead, but it did sound like it you guys said it at a very similar time, so Jackson: Think it's Davis' terrible Wi Fi connection. Look at him. It looks like a Matthew: Yeah. Davis: Yeah, I need to I need to fix the well well, ever since you got the new laptop it's just Jackson: pixelated TV from nineteen ninety five. It's no it's your no, it's your it's your Wi Fi. It's not your it's not your camera, it's your Wi Fi. You just look a little fuzzy right now, but it's okay. Davis: Now that we're doing this full screen, yeah, you can barely see me compared to y'all two. God, this looks terrible. Matthew: Yeah yeah. You gotta upgrade. All Davis: Yeah. Jackson: All right, Matthew, hit us with a player. Matthew: right. during his senior season his team went undefeated in the regular season and earned a trip to the Sugar Bowl where they played George. Davis: Pat White. Jackson: No, no, no, I know who it is. Sam Ellinger. Matthew: No. No. Okay. He finished third in the Heisman Trophy voting in two thousand seven behind Tim Tebow and Darren McFarland. Davis: Cole Brennan. Jackson: D I helped you with that, Davis. Davis: How did you help me with that? Matthew: Mm. Jackson: Texas quarterback. Davis: Cole Brennan went to Hawaii. Matthew: No, no, you e comprehensive. Jackson: Colt Brent. I was thinking Colt McCoy. Yeah, you're right, you're right. Matthew: You got that without me even mentioning Hawaii. I was like I had to wait till later 'cause Davis: Yeah. Matthew: if I said anything about being in Hawaii, you would get it super fast. But props, that was crazy. I'm not gonna Jackson: Yeah. Cobrana's bears. Davis: W Yeah. When you said Georgia and Sugar Bowl, Yeah, they played West Virginia in like 2005 and then they played Hawaii in like 2008. So I think that's the only two times that they've been to the Sugar Bowl. So I knew I knew as soon as Matthew: Yeah. Two? Davis: it wasn't Pat White, it had to be Cole Brennan. Matthew: Yeah. There's I'm gonna just read these other two off for you guys 'cause there's things I did not know. I knew he had the so he had fifty eight touchdowns passes in two thousand six, breaking the single game or single single season touchdown record that wasn't broken until Burrow did it in nineteen. And then he started his college football career at Colorado, where he was dismissed from the team on burglary charges. And then went to community college for a year and then transferred to Hawaii. I did not know. Davis: R I P Jackson: All right, Davis, you and me to go next, you wanna Davis: Yeah, we're we're gonna have to wait a a minute while I do mine. Jackson: You still trying to get Davis: No, I'm gonna do mine after you read yours. because I didn't do mine. Jackson: Dude. I'm disappointed again. Davis: Even though I I know. Matthew: I am not gonna be as at as good at this as you guys are. I mean Jackson knows more random freaking players than anyone I've ever met and Davis, you seem to be better at this game than him, so that's Jackson: Yeah, Davis, you're Davis, you're better at me. You're better than me at this one. okay, sorry. My hints are kind of all over the place. I think Chad GPT gave me like fifty seven hints. Davis: Whatever yours is, I'm Jackson: Okay. Davis: gonna create a theme like so that we'll like my third one will have to do with something with y'all's first two. So I'm gonna wait until you go. Jackson: I was a four star recruit coming out of high school. And my first touchdown pass came against San Diego State. Or sorry, San Jose State. Matthew: Eric Carr. Davis: David Carr. Jackson: I threw for two hundred and thirty-four yards in my first career NFL playoff start. I also played for more than three NFL teams. Davis: Carson Palmer. Jackson: But let me think about the NFL team. Maybe maybe it was three. More than two NFL teams. I'm doing this off the top of head. No, it's not Carson Palmer. Matthew: Chase Dane. Jackson: Yeah. Finished my college career with 77 touchdown passes, and I was selected in the fifth round of the NFL draft. Davis: Said seventy seven. Jackson: These are not getting easier, but I kinda I'm trying not to give you guys too easy of hints. Yeah. But i this next one will be easier. Seventy seven touchdown Matthew: Seventy seven or seven Jackson: passes. Matthew: in his career. Jackson: in his career. Select in the fifth round of the NFL draft. He was a quarterback, obviously. Davis: And he started a playoff game. Jackson: Yes, in the NFL. Davis: Aaron Murray? I don't think he started any playoff Jackson: No. Davis: games. Jackson: No. Matthew: the guy, the Denver guy who's played this year. Not him. The guy who started for Denver instead of Belburn quarterback? Gosh, game ready. Anyway, okay. Still Davis: Jared Siddham started in instead of yeah. Matthew: I guess it yeah. Okay, anyway, keep going. Jackson: I finished runner up in the 2013 Heisman Trophy voting. Davis: I'm thinking of the wrong year then. Matthew: Mm. Davis: this isn't Matthew: Twenty thirteen was Davis: This round pick twenty thirteen runner up. I don't know why I can't think of it. Jackson: Because nobody thinks about this guy as a runner up for the Heisman Trophy. Nobody know like peop you may know this, but most people don't know that he was a Heisman runner. Davis: So I my head was going to Jameis Winston. But I think he was twenty fourteen Heisman. Like th that was the Heisman winner. So I think I guess he's twenty fourteen Heisman. Jackson: Yeah, he won in twenty fourteen, I'm pretty sure. Davis: Yeah, and so the twenty thirteen Heisman was was Marcus Mariota. Matthew: Can only third. Can it Jackson: Or maybe Or maybe Jameis one and thirteen. Yeah, Jameis one and thirteen. Yeah. Jameis one and thirteen, I believe. Davis: Colin Klein? Matthew: Yeah, James one and thirteen. I have no idea. Jackson: I was named offensive MVP of the 2012 BCS national title game. Matthew: AJ McHere. Davis: Wow. Jackson: Nobody knows or nobody thinks about the fact that he was a high level runner. Davis: I did not I did not realize he finished second. Matthew: I forgot. Yeah, he started a playoff game for the Bengals. Davis: So he finished runner up to it wasn't Jameis then, right? Jackson: I think it was Jameis. Or was it a Matthew: He was run up in thirteen? Jackson: Yeah. He was runner up. Chat said it was thirteen. I know he was runner up, but I know that for a fact. Davis: I don't Matthew: No. We it had Davis: No, it was like Matthew: to be twelve. Davis: eleven. Matthew: It was eleven or twelve. Those are our national championship years. And he didn't play Jackson: It wasn't eleven. Two Matthew: it. He was not on Alabama in thirteen because he he graduated after our last championship. Jackson: No, that was the kick six here. Yes it was. Yeah. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Jameis Winston, AJ McCarron, Jordan Lynch, Andre Williams, Charlie Mansell and Trey Mason. Matthew: Alright, same corrected. Hey, I still Davis: Yeah. Matthew: got it. Jackson: All right, sorry, that was long. I'm Davis: All right, so it appears that the theme is quarterbacks drafted on day three. So keep that in mind. Jackson: Dude. Davis: All right. I was born in Illinois and played football in the Big Ten where I was a three year team captain. Jackson: Tom Brady. Matthew: Rock Burley. Davis: Yeah. All right. I have thrown for over forty thousand passing yards in my NFL career. Matthew: Case Keenum. NFL. my god. Jackson: Forty thousand passing yards Bip Drew Brees. Davis: No. That that's a good guess. Alright. Jackson: Dude, forty thousand passing yards is a lot of like that's a lot of passing yards. Davis: Yeah. I was drafted in the same year as a quarterback who won offensive rookie of the year on my team. Matthew: So he started as a backup. Jackson: He played in the Big Ten, you said that, right? Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Maybe forty thousand passing yards isn't that as much as I'm The current Big Ten. Davis: Yeah. Jackson: NFO got through for four Davis: Let me read that hint again that I just gave you. I was drafted in the same year as a quarterback who won offensive rookie of the year on my team. So this team drafted two quarterbacks in the same draft and the other Matthew: Right. Davis: one won offensive rookie of the year. Matthew: And then our guy threw for forty thousand yards, Davis: Yeah. Jackson: Dang. Every everything I'm thinking of I'm leading to a dead end on the hens. Matthew: Yeah. Davis: I'll give you a Alabama hint ne or Alabama related hint next. You ready? All right. In two thousand eleven I lost to Alabama in the Capital One Bowl forty nine to seven. Jackson: For cousins. Davis: yeah. There you go. Jackson: Or do you play college ball? Davis: Michigan State. Matthew: State, which means state. Jackson: yeah. Yeah, sorry. Matthew: I mi I as soon as you said that I I was I I knew Michigan State was who we played, I couldn't remember who the player was. Jackson: Man, what thing. Davis: Yeah. So they drafted RG three first o or second overall and then they drafted him in the fourth round. And yeah, RG three gets hurt, rest is hurt history. Jackson: shoot, I didn't realize I didn't realize they were in the same draft class. Dang. Davis: Yeah. Pretty crazy. Jackson: Yeah. That that was a good those are some good hints. Made me think a little bit. I I didn't Davis: Yeah, it's pretty good for it being quick, right? Being on the spot. Matthew: off the Jackson: Yeah, learned something. Matthew: card. Jackson: I didn't know that was the same draft class while okay. All right. That will do it for this podcast. Davis: That was a long one. Jackson: This was a long one. I hope you guys were tuned in with us till the end. If you're still here, thanks for being our friend. I Davis: Yeah. Jackson: doubt anyone that's not our friend is listening this far, but make sure you do the the comment section thing, the pick six, put your picks in there, make sure you do the tiebreaker too. So all right, thanks guys, appreciate it. Davis: Yeah, thanks for coming on. Jackson: Thanks, Matthew. Matthew: Yeah. Like and subscribe. Jackson: Please do. Alright. See you guys. Davis: So yeah.
