- speaker-0: Mom and Dad, I just want you to have that kind of passion in your heart to preserve the faith of your children and don't just go through the motions. Don't just assume that because they know, you know, a hundred scripture verses that they're ready. speaker-1: We have the privilege and the benefit with homeschooling that we can teach science through a biblical worldview. And it's completely blown my mind as a public school kid and then a public school teacher. Then I'm teaching my kids science and it's like it it is so fascinating because because it doesn't it doesn't get rid of science, right? It just proves that God is the creator of all things and it's so cool. And so we we really do have a benefit. But I what I think where we go wrong, and I talked about this a little bit in another podcast, the the last one with Seth Gruber is. We kind of think that we need to just teach our kids Jesus loves you, right? We sing Jesus loves you, Jesus loves you. We teach them the salvation message. And then that's kind of it. And the thing is, is we're losing kids because that's that's just the foundation, right? That's just the very foundation of what we're teaching our kids. But if we don't build something upon that that they can stand on when the world does come at them with these lies, which, like you said, is the apologetics, is the teaching everything from a biblical worldview, then they get out in the world. And you know what? There's a lot of people. I mean, the enemy's gonna use those lies to say, yeah, Jesus loves you, but all of these other lies, right? Yeah, Jesus loves you, but you can also be a different gender. And so, like you said, one of the greatest lies was this evolution thing. And the problem is, is we didn't step into that battle. We just said, ⁓ it's just one little thing in the public schools they're teaching. We'll just correct it at home. But when you teach a kid that they have no, you know, they're created from goo and they're not created on purpose for a purpose, then why can't they be a cat? Why can't a boy be a girl, right? And I think I I kind of want you to go back, like that was a that was a battle that we as believers failed in fighting. I believe we didn't pull our kids out when when this is like probably my parents' generation, right? Or maybe my grandparents. And they just said, well, that's just a little thing. We'll come home and we'll just we'll correct it. But that was the beginning of so many lies that were built on that. And so Talk to the importance of these little things that seem small that we're like, ⁓ that's not worth waging a war against. That not that's not worth stepping into the battle. And it grows. So so speak to that a little bit. speaker-0: Absolutely. Great point, Abby. You know, and and here's the thing. I think too many times throughout history, ⁓ the the Christians are reactive instead of proactive. And ⁓ we we need to we need to start getting on the ⁓ the the philosophical and the theological offense on the on these issues. And and it's and it's happening again here with AI and all of that and and full ⁓ you know, three D immersion. This is another storm that's coming. ⁓ that that I see on the horizon and we're not ready for it. So and I I'll just tell you a quick little story. Just you you mentioned this a little bit. Going through the motions is not enough. It's not enough to just teach them, you know, the cute little stories of the Bible. ⁓ I I rem after I I did a session on this for teens, ⁓ I had a mom ⁓ came up to me afterwards and she said, Chuck, I gotta tell you a story. She says I'm ⁓ the Sunday school teacher for fifth and sixth graders at our church. And there was one little girl that our church was had had kind of adopted. The parents just dropped her off and we would bring her in in. And she said, I was teaching a class one day and I think we were going through Noah's Ark or something like that. And little Sarah raised her hand and and and ⁓ she said, Yes, Sarah, what can I do for you? And she said, Teacher, I just got to ask a question. How do we know for sure that any of this is true? And she said, all of a sudden I realized, you know, I'm just teaching these stories, but I'm not really giving them, you know, logical, scientific, you know, the real basis for any truth in this. And she said, I thought, you know, I need to do a little ⁓ checking here. And she said, you know, Sarah, what that's a really good question. And and she said, I wonder if maybe some of the other kids in here might have the same question. And she said, So the rest of the class here. And she said, there's like twelve kids in there. She said, Do any of you ever wonder the same question? How do you know any of it's true? And she said, Chuck, every single hand wow in the air, including my own daughters. And so and she didn't even know that. And I think that's a big part of it. And this this ties back to spiritual warfare. Mom and Dad, y you need to fully engage with your kids. You need to know, you know, where their doubts are. W and we'll talk about that later. But you you need to you need to see their hearts and you need to go where they're at. And and so ⁓ it's so important that we just ⁓ face these things for real because the enemy is is laying that minefield of lies out there and he is robbing our future. You know, I woke up one morning and I heard the pitter patter of feet and in in the house and there's a Saturday morning and I'm not a fearful guy. I can I can fly, you know, inverted over a a mountain pass at seventy five feet and five hundred miles an hour, not blinking an eye, but all of a sudden fear just swept over me as I thought about that statistic and I thought, eighty percent, man, that's five of my six children. And I thought, God forbid, I will do whatever it takes to make sure that we don't lose a single one of them to the enemy. And so ⁓ mom and dad, I just want you to have that kind of passion in your heart. To preserve the faith of your children and don't just go through the motions. Don't just assume that because they know, you know, a hundred scripture verses that that that they're that they're ready. ⁓ and so I I did a little I did a little situation with our own kids. ⁓ I don't know if you if I have time to to share this story or not, but I was wondering okay. ⁓ so fast forward and our daughter is now 18 years old, she's a senior, she's graduating, she's Gonna be going to North Dakota State University and and enrolled in the pharmacy program. And I walked down the stairs to teach Bible that morning and I thought, you know, I I wonder if Brittany's ready for this. And I I got to the bottom of the stairs and I thought, hey kids, we're gonna something different for Bible today. I'm gonna just ask you a few questions. And so I said, ⁓ I I gotta ask you, how do you know the Bible is true? And, you know, Brittany was like, Well, that's because, you know, the Holy Spirit filled godly men and they wrote down, I Wait, wait, wait, prove the Holy Spirit to me. And she said, Well The Bible says that the Holy Spirit said, no, no, that's circular reasoning. You can't use the Bible to prove the Holy Spirit. And so every time I got these Pat Sunday school answers from Brittany and Reese and Ian and Emily, ⁓ I just kind of drove in a little harder and a little harder. And the most dramatic and remarkable thing happened. ⁓ within less than ten minutes, ⁓ they sat there and they refused to open their mouth. They refused to even answer my questions anymore. And they had this this kind of this stark look on their face. And finally Brittany looked at me and she's it's just with urgency. She said, Dad, stop. And I said, Why, Britney? Why should I stop? And her answer just sticks to me to this. She said, You're scaring us. And I looked at the kids and I said, Guys, listen, you know I love you. You know I love Jesus. You know that I believe every word in the Bible is true. You're sitting in the comfort of our home and you're afraid. What do you think is going to happen when an antagonistic, atheistic college professor is going to walk in and say, Hey, if you believe in God, get out of my classroom. I don't want to teach you. I said, Let's go back over every question I ask and let's shore your answers up with solid biblical, scientific, and logical answers so that you're ready to defend your faith when that day comes because it will come. And so we went back and I knew I had a lot more work to do because I I had just kind of was filling the squares. And so we spent the next few weeks preparing them. And then one year later, Britney stepped into her first biology class at NDSU and in walks a professor and he said, I just want you all to know that there is no room for God or faith in science. So if you believe in God or if you have any kind of a f semblance of faith, just get out of my classroom. I do not want to teach you. And so and Britney was like, Hmm, I recognize this. I know exactly what to do. And so ⁓ that that Prepared her so that she wasn't shocked and and stunned right by the the the attack of the enemy. Right. That that's a sp that's a spiritual attack right there. speaker-2: This episode of Homeschool Insights is brought to you by BJU Press Homeschool, CTC Math, and the Explorer Bible for Kids.
