- Alex: Morning guys, uh It's been been a couple weeks off, but welcome everyone. Um to another episode. We've had some life life happen. Um I think I texted jason. Um, this was a night that was supposed to be just jason and I on the podcast and I sent him a message. was like dude, I need to cancel and then it was like the next week We just need to push it's we needed a few weeks to reset life. At least on the on my side of things we were very busy and I Jason had a lot going on and Marcus has an impending move. So it was just it was it was a much needed few weeks off. But glad to be back. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: You SD Podcast - Jason: Yep. It's good talking to you guys. like, felt like it was, we were ready to go. And then you said, got us. We had a small mini agenda. And then you're like, dude, I got to stop. And then it was funny because I don't know if I mentioned it prior to, or just in my mind, I was thinking we might need to just kind of hold off because I still got a lot on my plate and things are stressing me out right now. And it's just, I don't know. Maybe I was just like, you know what? We still need to do this kind of distract me from everything and just have totally off life. Like realistic stuff that we have to handle and just kind of shoot the breeze and just kind of see what everybody's up to. Alex: Thank Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: Yeah, that was kind of, you know, that night that was a, we had to deal with some health issues on that one. Um, so that was just a, Hey, we just need to buckle down and focus on something. Um, and I mean, I canceled a handful of things, including the podcast. Um, I was just like, Hey, we, I just gotta, I gotta focus. So I'm glad, glad to be back. Glad some of that has sorted itself out now. Um, still SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: I mean, we were talking about it. We have storms rolling through Dallas right now. But I have, you know, we had a game Thursday night for trip lacrosse. have a soccer game here in five hours. That's probably gonna get canceled. have a lacrosse game tonight. We have a lacrosse game tomorrow. So it's, we're still in the thick of it with sports. Marcus: is he busy? SD Podcast - Jason: Gosh, when does that end? Alex: β Memorial day ish Grayson has he'll enter his β league playoffs relatively soon here. β I think he's like four more regular season games. And then they do, β the Collin County classic tournament, which is typically on Memorial day weekend and trip. have no clue. LaCrosse is that's, that's another one we'll talk about here. β LaCrosse. SD Podcast - Jason: You Marcus: You Alex: I texted Jason the other day about that. LaCrosse is so up in the air on some of the stuff. So I couldn't even tell you what the playoff schedule looks like or what their tournament schedule looks like right now. I mean, it could go for another 12 weeks for all that. SD Podcast - Jason: Would this be one of those moments where you're going to sit down and be like, I wish Tripp stuck with golf. Alex: You know what? No. And I say this because so we'll just get into some of this. I was going to try to be more organized in how we go about our life updates, but β whatever. So the cross, we've obviously been very involved as far as like a business standpoint. did the media day photos β and all that fun stuff and they seem to like us. You know, I've talked to, I've talked to the board quite Quite a bit. luckily, so two of the board members are on Tripp's team. Like their kids are on Tripp's team. So I've just had an opportunity to get to know them. Well, there's some leadership changes happening at the board due to some family issues for the current president. And then the vice president's daughter is graduating. She's a senior. So the two people that are on Tripp's team are sliding up into the president and vice president position of the board. So the next thing you know, I'm talking to them and they're like, What would you think about joining the board? It's like, okay. I was like, well, first off, I think I, I don't really think I had that much time. Um, it was like, I'm kind of focused on a lot of other stuff right now. So what's the time commitment? then like, Oh, it's, know, a zoom meeting once a month in person meeting in the summer, typically, no, like the business where I was right before it's called the Turlax internment. It's at the end of, um, October. Because that's put on by the club. said, okay, I'll think about talk to Casey. Um, I talked to them a little bit more, long story short. I was like, okay, whatever. I'll do it. But I was like, is this going to impact my ability to bring in revenue for Jason and I on the Poppy Verde side? Cause if I'm on the board, I don't want it to be a conflict and I don't want it to limit revenue. Cause right now I'm worried about growing the business. And if I can't get revenue, then I'm not going to sacrifice. Marcus: Hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: And they're like, no, if anything, should help get you revenue because you'll hear about a lot more of these events and you'll get to know like there's a tournament going on this week and actually in Melissa that's put on by it's a college club tournament. and McKinney's helping organize and are the volunteers for it. So they were like, it'll help you get in contact with people like that. That should potentially want to bring you in for revenue. So you'll hear about more leads through being on the board. Plus we're we would rather work for the photographer that's vested in the growth of the club than a random person. And if you're on the board, that shows that. So anyways, looks like I'm joining the board. β SD Podcast - Jason: President. Marcus: Help. Alex: No, no, no, no. β they, they put me over the events committee is what they're nominating me for. But then I saw the guy at, β Tripp's game on Thursday, the president. And he was like, after he was like, talked to you and he just wants business people on the board because he wants to treat it more like a business and he owns his own business. So he's like, after talking to you, I really liked just how you thought and operationally like your mindset. β SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: He's like, so I'm putting you like we have three positions available. One is records, one's treasury and one is events. I'm nominating you for all of them because we're going to get you in one of them. And it really doesn't matter because we all do it. It's just a matter of who's kind of on first. Whatever. Just tell me what I'm Yeah, I kind of joke does it. I deal with money all day. I don't want to deal with that crap. I don't care. It will be fine regardless. But anyways, I say a lot of that to say, you know, SD Podcast - Jason: You don't want treasury though. You don't want treasury. Alex: Trip, I've talked to him because he said, are you happy? He's not, or happy. He's wanting him go back to golf. like, you know, I'm happy to be able to get involved in support because I do that with Grayson. I'm on the coaching staff. I'm able to advocate for him and what's best for him. β this is a way for me to do that for trip as well. Cause I'm obviously not across coaches. Never gonna happen. and I was talking to these, president, right? And he's like, well, trips probably on the cusp of being good enough to be on the better team, the blue team. Well, it was a blue team game on Thursday and guess who scored his first goal. So we were, we were beyond ecstatic. It was a great goal. He got open. found space. β so it was, he's loving it. and that's never going to change. He's, he's a lacrosse kid now and we'll just, β we'll just take it as it is. So we're, we're happy and we are more involved now with the club than we were, on a personal side. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: sure that I'm being a business side as well. SD Podcast - Jason: Nice. Marcus: Yeah, that's good. Happy for him. Yeah, I got to actually spend some time there with with your kids last night β while you're doing that event. And man, they are trip is he is a good big brother. You can see it. β Just kind of anything that, you know, Bella or Grayson was needing or talking. I mean, he's just kind of chilling. At least that's what was out there. I don't know how it is at the house, but man, he seemed like a really good kid. SD Podcast - Jason: you Alex: Yeah, no, they're both. They're both really good. Big brothers, honestly, they're both very caring. I there are a couple of nuances, you know, I think the Grayson and Bella with the, with Grayson being a couple of years behind mentally with his ASD, him and Bella tend to fight a little bit more because I just think it's one of those like, you know, I think in reality they're five years apart, but Marcus: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Alex: Mentally, they're only like two years apart. So you can imagine like We all have siblings and you get it like when you're that close in age You just bicker and fight But he the funny thing is like he does nothing but try to help her and she's just the one mean to him like and we have to correct her all the time it's like all he's trying to do is help you like why you think mean like so there's there's that and then you put Grayson in an environment like last night like he was super on edge because Marcus: β yeah. Yeah Alex: It's just over, it's overstimulation. so seeing him at a place like that isn't exactly like seeing him at his best from a brother perspective, because the fireworks trigger him, β loud sounds trigger him. You know, it's a rodeo. There's a lot of action going on. β so it's, you're not going to see the best out of his personality because he's so like guarded and shelled in that environment from the overstimulation. Marcus: Yeah. Yeah, it is. Yeah. Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: Yeah, yeah, he's I mean, he was I mean, he's pretty funny. Because I was making jokes. He is he is quick because I told him was like, Grayson, said I held you when you were a football asset and I held you like this and then he just looks at me goes, Uh-huh. Said, Yeah, exactly. I was like, Yeah, dude. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: He's quick-witted. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Alex: Mm-hmm. He is. Man, he is the king of dad jokes. Like, like no joke, makes he makes the most. I think it's the ASD, right? Because it's like, that's the obvious joke. But it's man, he's starting the dry delivery, but he is the king of dad jokes. And halftime, like sometimes they're funny. And sometimes I look at him and I'm like, dude, like, you gotta be kidding me. No, come on. Marcus: β yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: you Marcus: It's quick, yeah. Yeah. β Yeah, I was having a good time with him. We were just kind of talking back and forth because I saw he was kind of like kind of on edge and I was just kind of asking him questions. I was like, what do you think? I was like, well, I'm going to put Marcus up on that boat. What do you think? He looks at me. He's like, I don't think that's a good idea. I I don't think so either. But he's a he's a he was good man. I loved hanging out with him and it was good that our five wives finally got to hang out. So. Alex: No. Marcus: I was trying to do the best β as a dad to get them more time together and just kind of take care of the kids. β yeah. β dude, I went to the snack bar. think I brought back like six hot dogs, six bags of chips, β a bucket of lemonade. like they were, you know, I just, I just know my kids, if they eat their chill, they're gonna, you know, they had something. Alex: help with the kiddos and well, I appreciate that. SD Podcast - Jason: You Alex: Thank Yeah, generally. Marcus: So I was like, all right, I'm just gonna keep feeding them. Then I went and got popcorn later. I was like, all right, because Addie wanted popcorn. So it was a good time though. SD Podcast - Jason: You Alex: Yeah, I'm all you gotta do. Yeah, I haven't even with us getting home so late. hadn't even put some of photos and I'm looking forward to it I know I got a couple early on of all the kids and y'all and so like for the scene some of those. Oh, golly. Marcus: Just feed them, that's all you really gotta do. SD Podcast - Jason: Nice. Can't wait to see some more. Those rodeo picks are coming out great. Marcus: Yeah. Did you hap, did you happen to get the, the calf scramble or the sheep scramble or you were busy doing other stuff? Okay. Alex: Yeah, they're fun. I need to look, I- no, no, I got some but I don't know if I got Addie, because I was trying to find her on the lens and I- Marcus: β no, Addie Addie started crying because she has this like, yeah, she was like, like, all right, let's say we're gonna play a sheep game the entire night. We're gonna go get a sheep. Okay, I'm gonna get a sheep. And so when we started going to it, she noticed that she had to be in the arena with everybody watching and she's like, I don't think I want to play this sheep game anymore. And then once it started, Alex: Gotcha. That's funny. SD Podcast - Jason: You Marcus: She started crying. She's like, I wanted to get the sheep to get a prize. That's like I I can't I can't help it. You got to be in there. But Marcus was there. He said he touched the sheep. So we'll see. Alex: I'll have to look and see if I got any of him then. SD Podcast - Jason: you Alex: Yeah. Tripp did the calf, trying to find or whatever, get the tag off the calf and then Bella Marcus did the, the sheep. So that's fun. No, I've enjoyed it. β I was out in Stephenville Wednesday afternoon, β or Wednesday evening at it's a smuts bulls only, β rodeo that JB Mooney puts on out at his place, β called Bucktown. Marcus: Yeah. Yeah. Alex: And, um, that's just pure adrenaline. It's like last night we only had four bull riders and there's 15 bull riders there and they ride twice each. So, I mean, there's dirty bull rides and an hour and a half. So it's just one after the other, after the other. And like, I didn't, I don't think I saw or touched my phone for two hours. Normally like there's lulls and either if I sports or whatever, could text Casey, man, I was, my phone was in my back pocket and I didn't look at it once. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. It's like go, go, go. It's kind of like, yeah, it's like when we get weddings, it's just, all right, we're kind of cool, kind of focused before, but once ceremony starts, you know, whatever 30, 45 minutes before that whole chunk, it's like no phones. And it's just, you're on, you're on edge because like, this is kind of like the moment why you're here. It's like, we got to make sure. Yeah. Alex: for two hours. Yeah, it's just constant adrenaline. Yeah, you miss it. You're like, yeah, you're mad at yourself for missing it. And yours is even more important because it's someone's life versus just if I miss one ride, okay, it's one out of 30. β so it's not, not a huge deal. There's certainly moments. β but I'll tell you the more stressful part was the timeline to get photos edited and done because there's, they don't really have like a legitimate like media process. So this is like you pay park. It's in a field. They have an arena set up. Like it's only season two and it's informal and it's it's going to be something bigger for sure So it's like right now they don't like control the amount of cameras that are in there like anyone if you pay to park you can bring your long telephoto lens and go take photos so I mean there's probably 50 60 70 cameras out there and SD Podcast - Jason: Hmm. Marcus: Yes. Alex: 99 % of them, everyone except for their media team and the like the inner circle photographers that they have are all getting roughly the same shots in the same angles. So it's like your timeline to edit and post and beat everyone to the shots because we're all getting the same shots. It's almost like a wire service for sports. Like you are, you have to go as fast as possible to get those out. So that was a little. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: exhausting. Like normally like the Cal town photos I'll have a couple days here. can filter coal, think about edit the Bucktown I had edited within 12 hours max and posted. Marcus: β dang. SD Podcast - Jason: Mmm. Alex: So I got home at like 11 and I edited through 2 a.m. to get the first batch out ready for social media posting. SD Podcast - Jason: β my gosh. β Alex: Wake up at 530 to go to work and try to post some more β during lunch hour and stuff like that. I mean, it's a pain. SD Podcast - Jason: you No, I'm asleep. I think I'm busy. I'm doing I have to do my regular job. Marcus: you Alex: Yeah. Yeah, I'm lucky that like my lunch, like I can sit for 30 minutes, close my door, my office and kind of just do lunch and get on my phone. And but it's that's all I can like, it's like I can sit there and edit. Right. I don't have my laptop with me or anything like that. So I just have to have lunch ready to go so that I can grab my phone and just pop them up and post them while I'm eating my lunch real quick. That's if I'm not on for again, calls, which lately work has just been Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: Mm. Alex: nightmare like my Monday through Wednesday from 8 a.m. to 4 30 p.m. I'm in meetings all day every day SD Podcast - Jason: on have a meeting about another meeting to meet have another meeting set up a meeting for the previous meeting and Alex: Hmm. Pretty much the last minute meetings are what pisses me off. I got a few on actually. Yes. No day before yesterday. My afternoon was clear and come like lunchtime. had a 130, a 230, a 330, a 445. Like I didn't get off the phone until 5 45 Thursday night and like Tripp's playing his games at six. It's like, this is ridiculous. SD Podcast - Jason: Jeez. Yeah, that's not fun. Alex: No, that's the worst part of my job. It's so many fire drills, but you know, whatever. We make it work. That was y'all's life, man. That's my rundown. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Marcus: You SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. All right, Marcus, you can have this one. Alex: you Marcus: All right. I, yeah, we've been kind of in the thick of, β all the sports getting started and all that and the impending move here, which that date has moved around like three times now. So, β I think we're just ready to be over with it. And it's just one of those things that I think we drive an hour to go down to, you know, where all the kids have their sports and, β It's just tiring and we got a house probably maybe five minutes from the field and five minutes from Blake's job. so, I mean, it's all good. β that's kind of the big thing besides my house looking like a paintball arena right now. It's like, I'm just walking around boxes. I'm living around boxes right now. So β can't invite anybody over. Alex: you Marcus: Stop the mail. It's just, I don't know. It's moving sucks. And God bless Blake, cause she packed up this entire house. Well, at least most of it. She only gave me like two rooms. I guess that's what she trusted me with. She said the garage and your side of the closet. So. No, yeah. Alex: does. It's not even a room. You get the garage. SD Podcast - Jason: That's like Yeah Alex: You don't even get a full room. You get the garage and a half a closet. Marcus: Yeah. She's like, I'll pack everything else up. She's like, don't ask me where it is because I don't know. Okay. So, um, yeah, I don't know where that mic is. Um, so hopefully, I think we did a mic check here real quick. So it should be sounding good, but, Alex: That's funny. SD Podcast - Jason: She just went around. She didn't pack it. And she just just threw it all in boxes and taped it up. Marcus: Yeah, I have Alex: Yeah, this is, this is her playing games on you. She knows exactly where it is. And she's like, you didn't help me pack. I'm hiding your stuff. Marcus: Hey. Yeah, exactly. I don't know. It's just, I don't know. It's gonna be like Christmas when we get over there. It's like, what's gonna be in this box? I don't know. It's a little SD Podcast - Jason: When's, when is the hopeful date to get over there? Alex: It reminds me of what they're called. Marcus: β next Saturday should be, β so first time the, the cell fell through. This is when we were on our way to broken bow. So the, guess it was still within the option period and the guys like, now we don't, we don't want it. So we were all depressed and broken bow. β put the house back up on the market. Yeah. Put the house back up on the market. And I think we got an offer two days later. So it's like, okay, now we're. Alex: Why'd β push? That's all. Marcus: We went through that whole process again. So, okay, just a week delay, no big deal. And then this last time it was kind of more of the funds weren't ready, I guess, on the buyer side for our house. And so, β which I don't know how, I guess it snuck through the cracks there of a, lender, but I think he would have confirmed that before setting a closed date. β but SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: Yeah. Did you do a contingency on your purchase? Yeah. Marcus: Yeah, so it's right now, I guess with the how the market is, it's like, it's like a chain of like three. Well, luckily for us is why we went with this with this buyer is they didn't have a contingency to sell their home. This was a new home purchase for them. So they were just coming in with with money and try to buy it. So I like, okay, got a deal there. And then we did a contingency on the house that we're buying. And then they did a contingency on the new house that they're buying. So was just a Alex: Okay. Marcus: a train. Yeah, β yeah. So it was like literally the stars had to align so the perfect date would get there and β luckily. Alex: A trickle down. SD Podcast - Jason: Ugh. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, those contingencies are a nightmare. I remember when we bought our house, the people got relocated for work right before COVID because we bought June of 2020. β so the house was empty. So we were really lucky that we were able to put a contingency and then we could essentially move in whenever we wanted here because the house was empty anyways, and they got relocated for work. So they didn't really like the company was on the hook for paying everything anyways. So Marcus: β huh. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: β gotcha. Alex: We got really lucky β to not have to deal with what you're dealing with because it is a nightmare when you have multiple contingencies and multiple levels of people and it's like timing it for this bank has closed funds available, then the next bank has to close funds available and it's just like one after the other. And mean, I could take two weeks just in closings. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: You Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Like I remember years ago, someone was a contingent on ours, everything looked good. The funding was there, but upon inspection on their house, something came up and the buyers backed out last minute once the inspection came through. And so like the funding was good, but then when the inspection came through, they're like, no, we don't want to do this. And so we had to back out just like Marcus did. And, but I don't remember, this was obviously years ago, but yeah, that whole trickle down effect, just one thing after the other, get through the inspections, get through the lending, make sure you're good. And something backs backs out or someone backs out or something. It's just a nightmare. Marcus: Yeah, throws, throws everybody off. And, β I think Blake was supposed to go on like a go see your friend, β I've been Boston. And so, β I told her, was like, you can still go for it if you want. said, but I'm pretty sure I'm going to need you here for this move. And so she didn't, she didn't really like that because she had this plan for, I mean, she plans like six months in advance and this kind of. Like for me, like, it's annoying, but I mean, you've dealt with project management and continues, β we got to push the day in this and that. So I kind of just dealt with it. I was like, well, it is what it is. And she was the end of the world for her. It was like, why? It's like, why are we even doing this? Bob was like, it's okay. We're still going to go to the next house. It's still being sold. They're still going to buy it. So it's just going to be pushed back. But we're going to tell her, look, you already packed up the house. We can, I could, but it probably best if you were here just to, you know, just Alex: Mm-hmm. Thanks. Marcus: help out and all that, everything worked out there. She rearranged her trip and I think β she was able to upgrade her seat just because of how much the flight cost difference was. So it worked out for her, just a little delay on going to go see her friend. Alex: Yeah. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: β yeah. Alex: That sucks, you know. Marcus: Yeah. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Are you going to use a moving company? Are you guys doing it yourself? Marcus: Yeah, so I will use a moving company. don't, I don't think, β yeah, we're, too old for that. Alex: You should definitely ask your friends. don't think you're too old for that. But I got it. It was probably, I can't remember when it was. was a few years back. β And I don't mean like I had a buddy that asked friends to help like unload and unpack. β That's a different thing. Like they move it in and you're just helping organize and we're all there. It's kind of a house warming, whatever. β But I've had some buddies that like legit asked like, Hey, can you me move? No, like. Marcus: Yeah. No. Yeah. Yeah. Yeah, yeah. I got stuff to do Did you not hear my weekend schedule like I have no time to help you move I'll send us Alex: Dude, I'm 36. My back can barely take waking up. I cough too hard and my back hurts. No, I'm not helping you. Like I love you. No, no, no. I'm not even going to blame it on my schedule. I'm it's purely physical. Like there's no chance in hell. I am going to help someone when I will throw out my back and be down for a week. Like no pay. We all have great jobs. Pay the 500, 700, $800 it is to move your stuff from one place to the other. I will gladly help you go on pack and put stuff away. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, I know. Mm. Alex: Sorry, I got a little one up here with me. She's on her iPad. Marcus: nice. SD Podcast - Jason: blew it out. Boom. Alex: Yeah, she had her headphones on at one point. Dad of the year right here, I gave her some β Captain Crunch and an iPad while everyone slept in. SD Podcast - Jason: β Shoot, I've same with miles like I've been trying to get through navigate some stuff here. That's just been stressing me out and Shelby's working a lot doing her photos and it's just like, all right, here's some food you're gonna sit in front of the TV because you're eating, but you're calm and let's be focused a little bit on getting my stuff done. Alex: Yeah, I want to hear about all of your, well, I how much you can get into because there was one thing you texted me kind of β not discreetly, but what am I thinking of the word? There wasn't much detail to it, so I didn't know if you wanted to get into that. β But how was your, how was Districts? SD Podcast - Jason: β Districts was good. β mean, districts was awesome. The guy got out, β which was great. First time for McKinney β School to get out, you know, for us and it was our particular school to advance regionals. Yeah. Well, it's Alex: Really? That's the first time? That's surprising with the caliber of play that McKinney and General produces, like the city. That's kind of surprising. SD Podcast - Jason: Well, I say the other high schools always had luck for the one I'm at. It's been quite a number of years. Well, it all changed when the other school opened up and took everybody from your community where you live. And so everything just Alex: Yeah, but that's the... Yeah. Gotcha. Hey, don't say my community. I'm not zoned there. I'm zoned for the only small school in McKinney. Marcus: Hahahaha SD Podcast - Jason: You β that area. And so it was great. he got out, he was in content at regionals. It was, it's just a whole different atmosphere because overall, you know, the caliber of player is definitely going to be better. β But you know, you got regions and districts from all like, I think we had El Paso to like, nor other areas. Alex: You You . SD Podcast - Jason: that came in and it's like, yeah, they won their districts. But then when you watch a play, OK, we know their district isn't as strong because comparatively, we're always seen. But it was a grind. He was too back after day one and then. They too just kind of ate him up. He. I think it was whole seven and eight that just took him out. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, where'd they play districts? SD Podcast - Jason: Tangle Ridge. Our district is at Waters, regionals is at Tangle Ridge. Alex: Okay, and you're talking about a Tango Ridge ate him up or waters? Okay, yeah, waters is a relatively I mean, there's a few gotcha holes, but SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, Tangle Ridge regionals. Yeah. Yeah. He got through waters. He made mistakes at waters, but he got through better than everybody else or, you know, he qualified. Alex: What is that whole? I'm trying to think about waters. β And you have like the two that par four that you gotta hit your second shot over the ravine. On the front, that one β is kind of a gotcha hole and then you have what does it hold 12 that doglegs around the pond. But if you hit it too far, you're in the creek on the right. β SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. 12 isn't too bad because they know to lay up. They lay up to the like the 150 mark. But yeah, number four with the super dogleg left. Number six, you have to lay up and then hit over a creek to an elevated green. That gets a lot of kids. And then 16, 17, 18 are just brutal because 16 is the long par three. Usually helping wind, it's just a long tee shot. Yeah. Alex: Yeah. usually playing into the wind. β this time of year helping? I guess I've only played it really in the winter when it's a north wind. SD Podcast - Jason: Uh, but it's just a, just a long, just a long par three for them 190 to 200, but of course downwind, but trying to stop a ball. So that's usually not too bad, but 17, 18 par four, par five dead in the wind. 17 is tough because of the angle that you go in at, uh, with the tree lines and then 18 is a par five, which is nice. But again, that one's usually dead into the wind. So, um, he made it through on those fine, but yeah, regionals. Alex: Mm-hmm. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Tangle Ridge, we thought like, okay, let's try it out. Never been down at the Cedar Hill Grand Prairie area. And it was just kind of a hilly, hilly course. lot of, a lot of slope, a lot of position play, but man, we had 20 mile per hour, 30 mile per hour gusts on the second day. First day was more 15 constant. And so, you you try to manipulate the shot through the wind and then Alex: I've, I think I've played it once. Yeah. there. SD Podcast - Jason: You know, he started rushing putts. He had a couple of comebackers three or four feet, then take his time missed it. So he bogeyed or doubled. Then that started eating him up and he knows and then shanked a couple shank drives. He was just kind of all over the place and we were just trying to keep him calm. I get this point. Yeah. And you know, he's like trying to play it off. I'm not nervous and like, yeah, no, you are. You were labored breathing. Alex: Yeah. the moment got to him a little bit. That's okay. SD Podcast - Jason: over the ball. Like I've never seen you taking deep breaths, resettling yourself off like four years I've known you I've never ever see you do this. And so there was stuff that was getting to him. He's not committed to play anywhere. He's got some small offers, but they're not like ideal. So he's thinking, β I just play well regionals, maybe go all the fight to state I'll get some more local interest. Alex: Yeah. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: But yeah, so that wrapped up this week. So we were out of town Sunday through late Thursday, Tuesday, and then rushing back. And then we had star testing and just trying to get all that stuff figured out. And then to kind of close out the year for our program, we just do a little like mini, β it's still Ryder Cup type format, just to scramble with, β we all pair up β with like two V2s. Alex: It's fun. SD Podcast - Jason: Scramble and we call it Nations Cup and we do a random wheel and pick what nation you're representing and just kind of having fun because I'm sitting here we close out We still got almost two months of school I'm not gonna just sit there and I rather just have play then sit there and have them grind on the range and Get it wrapped up Marcus: Hmm. you Alex: Yeah. Marcus: Yeah. Yeah. Alex: Yeah, do a little do a little something. Have fun with it. I mean this now that you're through star, I mean, what does the next six weeks look like for academics? SD Podcast - Jason: β we've got a, got AP testing coming up and then, which doesn't really affect me personally as much because I don't do AP, but you know, it'd be a sprinkling of kids in and out. β and then it's like, okay, well, I can't go too fast too much because they'll miss a bunch of stuff. And then the last, no, next week I'm good. In the next two, the two weeks, first two weeks of May, because where our room is located, they have to use our classrooms for extended small group. Alex: Okay, yeah. Marcus: Grr. Alex: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: AP testing. So me and two other teachers are relocated to a different part of the school, just a general conference open space. So it makes it even harder to like bring stuff and do things. So we have to manage it a little bit differently. But we've got some fun things like ideas, like most of the big content will be finished up this next week. And then it's just kind of right out. Here's some new things to kind of think about, apply and then kind of get ready for the finals. Alex: Yeah, that was the best thing about going to private school. senior year, I was already obviously accepted to a college by this point. β and they don't have to do state testing, right? So once I got through my AP final or AP testing, which happens, I feel like it's a little bit later than normal. I felt like we did it like early April. β cause I want to say back when at least Marcus and I were in school, we were SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm Alex: getting out of school early May, not Memorial Day. β But whatever the timeline is, as soon as AP was done, I was exempt from all of my final senior year. So I didn't go to school for six weeks before I graduated. And it's not like I wasn't skipping, right? They were like, mean, you're exempt from your finals. You've. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Yeah, they... You're good. Alex: Like you're about to graduate all your academically. You're in good standing. And this was everyone, not just me. Like it's like, as long as you met certain criteria, there was probably half of us that didn't even go to class. were just hanging out. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: So that's a big, that's a big issue. Cause when I started working, seniors got exempt if they held a certain classroom grade and certain attendance level, and then they took exemptions away. Then they tried to bring them back to help motivate kids to be attendance. Cause we're such a Texas is a attendance driven β funding system. And so we need butts in seats. And if you're going to exempt them, then they're not there. Then they get counted absent. And then if they're absent puts them in Alex: Yeah. Mm-hmm. Yeah. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: the truancy mark or whatever, then it's like, they got to show up. It becomes a very fine line. But you're right though, that like some of the AP classes take their AP test, like that 12th, 13th, 14th of May for a class. And then the finals per schedule is the next week. And I know most of the teachers, I'm like, just, they're just like, yeah, the AP exams are final, still show up, we'll do something, but Alex: Mm-hmm. you I'd give a test. It's like, write your name. Here's your final. Write your name and we'll move on. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Give me a short story of what you're going to do this summer. Alex: Yeah. β SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, it's crazy. β But now they got seniors, seniors can be exempt again. But it was really weird. It was kind of a quiet exemption the last two years, they didn't give us a publication. Hey, you're exempt. Here's the criteria. And then it was exempt for only certain classes. Now I think it's exempt for, I think all classes, but they do still have to meet a certain grade level like 80 or 90 with X amount of missing classes. And if they meet that, then they're good. And I think they say the seniors exempt just average quarter three, four, and they put that in as the final because then it won't change their grade. They won't get penalized. Alex: Yeah. Gotcha. That's fun. Well, at least it's something. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: So that's what I got. I mean, I've got a lot of seniors this year. Yep. I think most will still have to take the final just because of attendance. Like lot of them have missed a lot of school, especially lately. Alex: I think it's, I think it's stupid. It's like, I get the point of a final, β but like senior year, like most of these kids are already accepted to a college if they're going to college, but they know what their plan is. Like, why are we even doing finals for seniors that are checked out the last month? Like after prom, you know, they're all checked out. They don't want to be there. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: actually a spring break, Christmas break, they're all checked out. Teachers are checked out, especially senior teachers. Alex: Which I was, I didn't realize, I didn't realize prom. So obviously with me doing some of the lacrosse stuff, like Casey has some family friends of her parents that their kids are obviously younger. And I guess Casey's to babysit for them. So I was talking to him at one of the games and he told me prom is like early May. It's like two weeks before they graduate. And I was like, that's like. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: I'm Alex: It was like a month and a half before, it was like April when we were in school. SD Podcast - Jason: I think it varies. I did an engagement session last week and I think one of the Frisco schools, they're all over Stonebridge, Adriatica, like all over the place for pictures. β We have ours on the ninth. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, so he that's what because he's at your school. So that was a little shocking to me. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, I think part of it think it is also depends, like whoever makes the arrangement to reserve the venue, and just like whoever jumps on it faster. And I'm not sure if there's a year lead a year and a half lead, because I know there's worse. Alex: Yeah. Well, well, and I'm sure with, well, you're probably about to say it. I'm sure with the area that we're in, there's a city right next to us that caps their high school. So they have what? 10 high schools. So there's only so many venues that are relatively close to where we're at that they might want to book. And if, you know, you're competing with those 10 schools plus the four that are in Plano and SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Mm hmm. Yep. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: I mean, there's a lot of high schools in our county. SD Podcast - Jason: β for sure. Well, they did it a few years ago when that Sheridan just opened up, you know, down off El Dorado and 75. And I guess over the years they've slowly backed away from it. And the ROTC ball Marine Corps ball was there this last year, but the admin had finally said, Hey, they can't be at any of these venues anymore that have alcohol access to alcohol. Alex: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: because they have the bars and things at the venues and so kids will have the bar because bars the standard hotel bar open to the general public. Yeah, so they have to be Marcus: Hmm. Alex: Even even if the bar is closed, like shut down and close. β gotcha, gotcha, gotcha. I didn't think about that. So you can't. So now you can't use like the hotel that I worked on in Frisco. You won't be able to use that because they have a downstairs bar. Even if the convention, even if the ballrooms are upstairs, there's accessibility to the bar downstairs. Wow. I mean, I get it, but that is really interesting. SD Podcast - Jason: Right, there's accessibility. Mm-hmm. Yeah, so they just got to use just your standard basic like wedding venue, essentially just big open space, like the cotton mills a big one. So cotton mills can be used a lot. β Marcus: Dang. Alex: Yeah, like the. Yep. I think I want to say McKinney North did there's at. The Plano event center. Or something like that, yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: We've had that there too. The Plano Convention, actually where that β golf expo was. β I've shopper owned a few dances down there. Alex: Over on the east side of town. Yeah. Okay. Gotcha. Okay. That makes sense. I mean, I get it. Let's get into some golf. Oh, go ahead. Go, go, go, go. No, no, go. What were gonna say? I don't want to talk about high school kids anymore. I don't care about them. Let's talk masters here. What are y'all's takes on it? SD Podcast - Jason: But yeah, all right. Let's see. Enough about life. Yeah, golf is good. Marcus: you SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. we are at regionals practice round and everybody in our group, are all rooting for Rosie and we just, he peaked too soon. And then I credit to Rory though, like he knows the course. He knows the setup. He's mentally elevated his game. I mean, that's bottom line. He kept himself from then floating and put it together. Alex: Mm-hmm. think monkey's off the back. mean, he's won it. So now it's he's playing for really. It doesn't matter if he wins again. Now it's just like, I don't know. I haven't looked at any of these stats and God knows I probably should, but I don't know how many people have won three. I mean, I know obviously there's only so many people that have won four or five, right? There's a handful of people that have won twice. So. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. I think it's Tiger, Faldo, Nicholas. There might be Phil. Alex: Is film on three? That's what saying. I probably need to look this up and I should know this. SD Podcast - Jason: There's probably five or less that actually have won three. I'm pretty sure I saw like the master or like the leaders, masters, winners and like, there's five or less that have won three and there he'll be a heavy favorite next year. Like, like you said it right there. Rosie's Rosie's not playing free because he knows he's feeling it. There's just that element of pressure to try to finish it. I mean, he was rolling real good and then just Alex: Yes, I mean. Yeah. Yeah, β absolutely. Well, he's the next storyline. Yeah, he's... SD Podcast - Jason: I think it was 11, 12. Because I think going out of the front nine, he was leader or co-leader. And then the back nine, aiming corner or something, he... Alex: β yeah, he was, he was up by three at one point or two at one point. can't remember. β but yeah, I mean, he's the next storyline because he has finished. I mean, if, if you look at that trophy, I think they put the second place person on there as well. And I think he has his name on there like three or four times as a second place position through his career. So, I mean, he's the next storyline of when can he break through and. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Do you find something, Marcus? Marcus: Yeah. Alex: What was that? Marcus: Yeah, we had, I was just looking up how many have won three. So, and I looked it up twice. So golfers have won more than three. It's Arnold Palmer, Tiger Woods and Jack Nicklaus players that have won exactly three times. Jimmy demerit, β Sam Snead, Gary player, Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson. SD Podcast - Jason: β wow. So there is more. Alex: to those four, four not including the three you already said that have one more. Marcus: Yeah. Five, Jimmy Sam's need Gary player, Nick Faldo and Phil Mickelson. Yeah. So five that are one three. And then the, obviously the top three. Alex: in their fight. So what is that nine total? SD Podcast - Jason: So eight to have one, three or more. Nine, okay. Something like that. Okay. Well, yeah, that's funny though. Alex: Eight total, okay. Marcus: Yeah. 8 total, yeah. Still, that's wild. Alex: So mean, Rory's at the point of his career. Yeah, it is. SD Podcast - Jason: You mean you think about it? Yeah, like, he's free. He knows the course. So that's a huge advantage. Marcus: Even on 18 when he, he looked like me. Yeah. He looked like me out there and he, he had the composure to just, Hey, I just need to get it back in there and you know, to putter and I win this thing, which is wild. Um, I don't know. It's a little bit more. I mean, it was, it was, it was good to see that there was a lot of people in contention. They're like kind of midway where people were in and out kind of, Oh, you know, was we're going to give it back. But. SD Podcast - Jason: Duffed it. Mm-hmm. Marcus: because that monkey was off his back. He was, it felt different. It felt different this year. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, it's like, yeah, I'm glad it became very tight. I'm glad it be there was like a bunch just sitting there and it can go anyway, which makes great golf, which is what the Masters and then how they set it up for. And like you said, I think Rory just realized he's like, Hey, I've already won one. So I'm cool, like just playing it out. And I want to win, but the pressure to win was definitely in a different Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: ratio I feel because you know, he can just put it in there. I don't know how much he sees or because I know they have the scoreboard but like at what point do they actually start looking at it or does he have the mentality now to just ignore it and just stay to his path, which is which is solid. β But yeah, I mean, the masters it shows his teeth like it shows who's prepared who understands how to play. You definitely have to shot shape. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: You have to have more control of your ball. You can't just have an open area and just blast it. Like a lot of these guys and they all got cut. mean, like, bye, Bryson was a par 67 course, whatever he said a years ago. And except for last year, he hasn't done great at all at the masters. None of the live guys did except for I think Patton and then maybe read, but Marcus: You You Alex: Thank SD Podcast - Jason: I don't even count Reed as a live player anymore. but yeah. Marcus: Did he come back or he's just been quiet, I guess. Alex: you SD Podcast - Jason: So I did look it up Reed is he's technically not live and he's technically not PGA because of the the sanction. So I think his probationary sanction period ends in the summer where he could actually officially PGA again. So he's kind of only in there just because of his past victories. Marcus: Gotcha. SD Podcast - Jason: But yeah, he's, I think, out at live. But what's interesting though is still a great player. think Alex, I have talked about this too, is just Scotty. He's still playing okay, but he's not Scotty like he was the last couple of years. Marcus: I was gonna say... He, I mean, we talk about people in contention. think he was in contention. He was already in the clubhouse and he was still in contention just cause how people were dropping and, and, know, I, I thought for a second there was going to be a playoff there between Scotty and, and, and Rory and Rose, like just have a three ways playoff. was, that was, that was what I was rooting for, to be honest. I wanted to see just chaos, but yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Yeah. β that would have been awesome. A Rory, Rosie and Scheffler playoff. That would have been phenomenal. But over this year, Scheffler, we joke about it with our golfers, especially the ones who follow it. He plays like two day golf. He comes out friday, thursday, just there. Friday, maybe makes a little bit of movement. And then he somehow like Saturday, Sunday, he's in contention. Marcus: You turns it up. SD Podcast - Jason: It's like, if you just did this all four days, you know. Marcus: Too much work. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, I don't know if it's something he's I don't want say he's not intentionally doing it. But part of me is like he's he's matured to a point where he knows that I don't need to extra grind and extra stress these first day or two just keep it steady. If the shots and everything goes, it goes but I've watched some of his play and he's missed some easy iron shots. He's missed some drives just kind of errantly like nor not normal Scotty type. So I don't know. We'll see how it shapes up this year. Marcus: β I'm no one to talk β I haven't I haven't spent that much time at the range and yesterday I felt it just with the scramble that I was a part of I guess we we've done a couple scrambles here the last couple weeks, but yesterday it was god-awful like β The group that I was with they weren't necessarily golfers. They were out there for a good time I mean, that's how much those scrambles are anyway β I told Alex is like SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Marcus: I actually won a prize. keep talking about winning prizes there, Jason. I won a prize yesterday. I got an Amazon gift card. β it was for the group that got last place that said you should go find a new hobby. And so we got an Amazon gift card. So it can be done. I don't know. Hey, jokes on them. I'm just going to spin it on golf balls. So SD Podcast - Jason: Nice. What'd get? Was it enough? Was it enough to start a new hobby? You Marcus: Maybe a new glove. We'll see how much is in there. Yeah. Yeah. Find a new hobby. Get a book. β But I want something. So I can't can't say I haven't won anything at a scramble. β SD Podcast - Jason: It's like $5 Amazon gift card. Hey, there you go. I know that kind of makes me disappointed that when we played our ROTC one that maybe we should have gone in with a little more seriousness instead of just... Marcus: Even I'm glad so when when Alex and I did that scramble, it was like two weeks ago now. They they knew like it was I think they took the top three and then they said, all right, we're going to raffle off the top three scores because no one believes your scores anyway. And so they just like did it in a bowl. I was like, all right, you're the winner. So that's that's how serious these scrambles have gotten to be here lately. SD Podcast - Jason: I know it's hard because you don't want to paint a picture, but when we saw some of the groups that won and we're sitting there going like, wait a second, like really we're playing in the same stuff and we were actually playing pretty good and you somehow managed to get six strokes better than us or whatever the difference is. β It's just weird. It was just like, okay. So I don't know. We'll see. Maybe if we go again next year, maybe put something together better. I mean, if it's at the bridges again, which it might be, what's that? Alex: β You know we're going again next year. I said, you know we're going again next year. SD Podcast - Jason: Oh, yeah. I mean, we have, it's almost like I have to now. It's like, cause don't want to disappoint Don. Alex: He's a scary man. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Yeah. When you get to know him, it's not but you got to get past that. But at some point, I feel like he could still flip a switch and just be like, tear me to pieces. Alex: you SD Podcast - Jason: But it's been fun though. Yeah. Scrambles are good. β I signed up for another Grint tour, new tournament in May, just, just cause I want to get back out there and just play. But it's the last one. I I was looking at my schedule just with everything. I it's the last one I'll be able to play for this, β spring. And then I think after that it's I guess they have qualifiers. I guess if you do well enough in their series, you get to get invited. I'm like, I've only done one and that was horrible. And I'm going to do a second one. So I'm not going to get invited to do their champion, whatever it is. And I think all our, all the dates of conflicts. So, but it's fun though. Marcus: Yeah, I need to take this golfing a little bit more serious from my end. At least go to the range. I've been going to a different range, but I need to go to the golf range. So that might be a... SD Podcast - Jason: Mmm. Yeah, I've been. So one of things I'm doing, it's like, don't like, you know, we still have practice and I'll hit maybe 10 to 20 balls or something like that, just to keep the body loose. But, you know, most of my warmups, most of my movement now is just muscle activation, mechanical, β barely hit a ball. Like I don't hit the ball as much as, know, just to keep grinding to hit it out. β But that's partly because I think I've Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: I feel like I've moved to a better position. As far as the mechanics, still issues. Still going to work with the guys at IGP, but I know I feel I'm in a better spot. And so I think working in the muscle activations, you know, kind of sitting there, like you're feeling like, I know I can control this pinky because I done stuff with it, used it. And then now like with talk about the back, the shoulder, the legs, learning to how to activate. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: engage those muscles properly in the swing is been huge β over the last six months. So yeah, I'm happy to see the results actually developing like I'm seeing a change. Marcus: Yeah, I resorted back to my old swing and everything hurts now SD Podcast - Jason: Did you have a new swing? Marcus: I don't know. You know what? That's very astute observation there, Jason. Probably not. I guess in my mind I thought I did, but... β We can all have a new swing, Jason, not just you. That's funny. SD Podcast - Jason: I have a new swing. Okay. Alex: You know, at least, β at least y'all are actually, you know, you, have your swing and you're playing. have touched my clubs. think I've touched them a lot because I practiced, have played a legitimate four rounds total this year and still carrying that plus like 0.7 handicap. If I go out right now, I don't know if I break 80. SD Podcast - Jason: You don't think so? Alex: Dude, I haven't. I've barely touched my putter. My wedges from like a touch around the greens to save par. I barely do that. Like when I go, I've been hitting balls and even that I haven't gone in two weeks now because I've just been so busy. I'd last time I played last time I touched my clubs was when I played with Marcus. SD Podcast - Jason: Well, how's the back feeling? said your back was really hurting because you couldn't Alex: Yeah, I've definitely been having some back issues. β It's getting better. It's that's that's slowly solving itself. I think it's just building up new muscles. β For the photography side of it, I think that's what a lot of it was, is just the rounded back with your eye behind that view, a finder. β So it's and there's only so much you can do because like to hold yourself stable, you're tucking your elbows in and you're right here. So you're just crunched. β Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mmm Alex: So it's tough, but I think it's strengthening itself. Marcus: I We should definitely do some yoga just cuz the positions that I saw Alex get into last night pause Taking those pictures. I mean It was I was like I didn't even know he can get that low first of all my knees were hurting and then he was like he wasn't lying he was hunched over like SD Podcast - Jason: That's what I'm saying! Alex: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: You Alex: Yeah. Marcus: Almost a split. I don't know how those pants didn't rip. I need to get whatever pant manufacturer that was because those are some stout pants Yeah, dude, I mean he was I mean he was running around that whole arena and just getting in different positions jumping over rails and this and that I was like, β man That's a workout on its own. I saw him at the end of the night. It looked like he was riding the bull He was wild SD Podcast - Jason: You Alex: hashtag Wrangler retrofit nice and heavily starched. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, β my gosh Yeah. β shoot. We have nothing like that at weddings, but we're on our feet moving around and we're exhausted. And then just holding that posture is just, mean, I'll be sitting there at times like doing stretches in the back room when that's reception. Just like, all right, I got to did a sweep through their dance area. I'm over there just like bent over, like working on my bag. Marcus: You think you should. Alex: You should. He's over here doing a legitimate warm up stretching before the wedding, know, get to the arms. Marcus: You gotta you know what Jason sometimes you just got to jump up on that buffet table and then just work your magic You know just got to get those shots Yeah SD Podcast - Jason: I have to. My shoulders hurt, neck hurts. Alex: you Hey, you gotta get the shot, man. Anything for the shot. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah You know, you're not wrong. You're not wrong. Some of that because I'm like, you know what? Maybe it would help because they're just, cause we stand there. It's like, you're just trying to stand there just like, you're just pivoting, pivoting, pivoting, moving around. And it's almost like if there's a spot in the dance floor and just actually dance, not like full dance, but I get moving because then your muscles are moving, your blood's flowing, your, their contract. And so it's like, maybe that's a better way to go. Just Marcus: Yeah. Alex: Mm-hmm. Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Just even just a little shuffle with the feet just to keep the legs and the blood flowing. And it's like, you're not locked in so much. And then you got the camera just ready to go. Marcus: I think that's, it was good that I kind of saw what Alex was doing yesterday. It was like, man, how do you get those shots? But it's like, he's moving how the, I guess the writers and like the scene around him is moving. And I think that's what it is. I was trying to like figure out, cause anyone has a camera and point and shoot, but I mean, you gotta get into it. Alex: Well, and... It, takes, well, and it's like anything it takes learning. you know, it, take it to golf, right? Like you do the same course over and over and you start to learn, okay, where can I miss work? What lines can I take? It, applies to anything. So it's like, this is my second time at that venue. and they, I seem to have a good report with them. like, was telling Marcus, β the first hour that I was there, like legit, it was probably 45 minutes. was. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: negotiating where I can get like to be able to get in the dirt and get some good shots. And it's all like, Hey, like I get like y'all tell me I can sell to the contestants and sure, I can make money that I've made maybe 20, 30, 40 bucks. I think I sold like four photos total total. And I sell them at 20 a pop. So it's like, I haven't really sold that many to concessions. So like I'm there and I want to get good shots and I want to help y'all brand. Well, so it's like this is mutually beneficial, right? I'm building and I'm doing and I'm selling but it's also helping you because I'm collaborating on social media posts with you I'm doing this I'm doing that and it so if you put it in that light, okay, cool now it's where can I stand on certain events and then They brought in one of the judges and he was the one that was like dude. I got some awesome spots I want you to sit for some of these shots. So like there was a point that like The rodeo crew was telling me so barrel racing, for example, I stood where we agreed. He came over and he was like, Hey, come here. And he put me right next to the out gate where they're running out, where you can't see them. You can see them on the screen, but you can't. So I'm getting pictures of these horses running at God knows how fast directly at me. And I'm like five feet off their line. And he's like, dude, these are gonna be great shots. And he was like, he kept telling me, he was like, no, no, no, come here, come here. SD Podcast - Jason: Hahaha Marcus: Yeah. Hehehehehe Alex: And at one point, like one of the arena crew was like, hey, they're in my ear. They're telling me that they need you to move. And I'm like, dude, the judge is telling me to stand right here. I don't know what you want me to do. Like I'm following the judges rules. So it was β anyways, it's it was fun because they were telling me where to go and everything for the most part. β And at one point I was laying under. So, you know, where the bulls same that same gate where they go out, they had me laying under yelling under the bull. β Marcus: You you Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: You're laying under the bowl? Marcus: You Alex: No, so that that fence β that fence opens and there's like 18 inches So i'm laying under shooting up right where the bulls come out and I have a gate guy Sitting there like ready to tap me on the shoulder so I can stand and suck it in so he could pull that gate in the bull can come past to me I was like god damn. This is β this is precarious to be to be honest Marcus: You Yeah, that's what I was telling you. That's why he was looking so sweaty at the end of the night. It looked like he was working out like he's legit working out there. Alex: you β Note to the wise bring a change of clothes for if we I ever go out after because if I was covered in dirt yesterday, I Didn't expect that SD Podcast - Jason: I was gonna ask. I would say you're probably a mess. probably smells like just roadie of dirt. Nothing to it. Alex: God knows I probably stepped on something somewhere out there in that arena. β But no, it's like anything. You build a rapport and you slowly get more more access. So was, last night was a lot of fun and quite different from the first time around. So hopefully I got some good photos that they'll continue to let me do something like that. β And they see value in it instead of just someone else in the arena that they have to worry about. β They told me no rough stock, which is the Bulls and Bronx. Marcus: You SD Podcast - Jason: β for sure. Alex: because I guess apparently they had an incident where a photographer got hit by a bull. He was climbing the rail but didn't climb fast enough. And it is what it is. mean, it happens. So they're like, let's start here. And if tonight goes well, then we can talk about further access for stuff like that. I was like, sounds good. Appreciate it. it was a good time for sure. But it was. Marcus: Mm-hmm Yeah. Yeah. Okay. You just, you just got to show you're athletic. I guess. I don't know. Alex: β yeah, well, I think, I think some of it's to just show that you are aware, like some spatial awareness and, β and also just willing to listen. Like the minute they told me, Hey, we need you to move. I moved. Like there was no, no delay. I sprinted across. I tried to stay out of the way. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah Marcus: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: you Marcus: Yeah, it's more of you're working with them instead of against them, right? Yeah, it's perfect. Any any other new muscles hurting this morning? Alex: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, absolutely. No, I actually, my hips were hurting last night. They're aching. Like not even like the muscles. Like I felt like the actual hip joint was aching. It was weird. Marcus: I bet. Yeah, I should have taken a picture of it. It was a full on almost split. Like I'm not even exaggerating. I wish I could, but it was almost a full on split. I was like, β my God. So I had a great time. Yeah. Yeah. At the very beginning. It's like a bunch of like fire coming out and like kind of showing the bull riders and all that. And just Alex, you can just see him. He's the only the one man in the arena and he's just like full on just. SD Podcast - Jason: You Alex: You SD Podcast - Jason: You Alex: Is this at the very beginning? Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: β geez. Marcus: I can't even stretch out in my chair like that, but good lord. β I think that was just my motivation to do some yoga. You've motivated me there. β Alex: You can do it. I have faith in you. You can do it. Hey, let's let's do a scramble. Fine. Let's do a scrambling dad's yoga. How are going to do this? Are we going to show up at Jason's house? You're going to you're to hire us a yoga person. SD Podcast - Jason: Hey, I've been telling them we got to do a yoga episode. Marcus: Shit. Yeah, who's got the goats? SD Podcast - Jason: Alex will probably have access to goats. Alex: Hey. My sister does have goats on her property, so I mean we could we could. I don't know how friendly they are, but we could go there. Marcus: Goat yoga. SD Podcast - Jason: Get back. Get bloody knows his busted eyes. Marcus: Yeah Alex: They might want to head, I think they're gonna, yeah, I think they're more likely to headbutt you than jump on your back, but we can try. Marcus: I'm eating, just to like, I don't wanna say, just put a little bit more masculine taste to this yoga. mean, yoga is already hard as it is, I mean, do something to it, make it a challenge. Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Huh. Alex: β I'll do some yoga. You tell me when. SD Podcast - Jason: It's, it's good for my body and health. So why not? Marcus: And golfing wise too, because yeah, my back's hurting this morning. I'm telling you, I wasn't swinging right. Alex: Well, that's because... Well, if you would go get some lessons, you would swing right. Marcus: money-sowing. SD Podcast - Jason: you I'm telling you Marcus, my back does not hurt the same way now that they've helped tool my swing. Like it soars because I haven't played the good sore, but the pain is not there. Alex: Yeah, it's, β it is funny. I, well, I said, it's funny. Once you learn how to swing, like it should take stress off your back because you're swinging the right way. But I will say, β when I was swinging more and practicing more, Ben had me doing more of that, he says, it feels like someone's playing tug of war with your club. Like you need to be back and your arms gotta be all the way out and got feel like the club has been pulled away from you and you're stabilizing with your core. Mike Lutz. SD Podcast - Jason: Cough Alex: Like the whole posterior chain was hurting for weeks because you're practicing that and it's muscles that like you're not used to doing this. And it's now if I couldn't swing if I want to, because all of those same muscles are the ones that are hurting. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Marcus: β all right, you convince me, I'll get lessons. SD Podcast - Jason: You don't need to like go hardcore, but just pop in here and there like I do. Alex: Yeah. Marcus: You Alex: Now that you moved farther away from IGP, you're gonna do lessons. Marcus: Yeah, I don't I don't know. I gotta find some weekend stuff. I will I will I mean Obviously, I have to you know, go the IGP route just because of What I've seen done with your game and with Jason β It's just the time I mean, I don't know and that's like that's like the whole dad thing there's only so many hobbies you can get into and I'm SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, right. Yeah. Marcus: I know myself, I'm about to go on a fishing trip here just because we're going to do a customer thing here and I hope I don't get sucked into that hobby. Alex: Well, yeah, and it's, it's tough because you start to learn and, you know, it's a much deeper conversation of you start to triage what's important to you and what's not. β and I'll be somewhat candid that golf has just fallen off for me right now. Like I, I hate it because it's what I've done for so long and it's what we've kind of built the podcast around, β to be honest, but it's like, you know, Marcus: Yeah. Alex: I think, part of it, I'll be completely fun. It's like being, β out of a job for five months, kind of like messed with me of now it's like any downtime I have, it's either family or revenue. Like those are the two things I think about because I don't ever want to be in a position where it's tough to, β make ends meet for the kids. So, you know, the, the, the poppy Verde stuff has just been. Okay. This is it's a thing and it can, β SD Podcast - Jason: Mm. Alex: It can support in a hard time and hopefully that hard time never comes again. And hopefully this is just fun money for, β for once, once we get some of the debts paid off for the company, hopefully it's just fun money for Jason and I, right? We, move on and we can expand scrambling dads and do some delve back into the YouTube world that we want to, which is a time suck. And it's really hard. β SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Gosh, Alex: But yeah, you need an editor and honestly, you need a videographer because it's tough for us to be truly ourselves on camera when we're worried about other stuff, β all the technology stuff. Poppy Verde has kind of been, OK, we can make some good traction here. β mean, those media days make a decent amount of money. I'm signed up for two more of them over the next two weeks. Smaller. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. . Marcus: You Alex: But it's, mean, those are good money that helps pay for some stuff and β it's a means to an end. So golf has just unfortunately been what's fallen off because the kids are so busy that I can't do that much. I gotta do my family, right? And I gotta be there to support. And even the photography side of it is a lot. It's asking Casey a lot to handle the kids. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Yeah. Alex: Because they come like last night they came with me, you know, they came to the senior night that I shot for the varsity girls the other night. But it's not like I'm actively helping in the parenting at those. You know, she's dealing with it and she's there to support me and I love her because she does that for me. Like she she knows that I want them in my space and I hate the time away. It's like I drove out to Stephenville after work. I leave work at five. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: get to Stephenville right around seven when the event starts and then I don't get home till 1115 because it's a two hour drive home. So, you know, it's, it's a lot on, on the family and it's a lot of me being gone. But even from that one Stephenville event, I've had, think 10 people reach out to buy photos. So I mean, 200 bucks. Okay. That paid for my gas. That paid for my time. Right. So, so it, just all, it'll get there. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: It'll get there. Yeah. Alex: And golf has just unfortunately been put on a back burner. Doesn't say it doesn't mean that I don't love it any less. just really struggle to find five hours of time away from the family without my mind running to what do I need to be doing on the revenue side? What do need to be doing for probably ready to make more money? Who do I need to be reaching out to, to try to get the next, the next game or the next organization or this or that so that we can continue to drive. Um, and I know the summer will be a little bit of a little sports just naturally. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: I know. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: Slow down. So it'll just really be rodeo stuff in the summer. Even even the Stephenville stuff is done at the end of May. So really it's just cow town. That's the only β venue that'll be ongoing since every weekend. So Yeah, I don't know. I've I hate it. I've been really trying to come to grips mentally that golf isn't as part of bigger part of my life as it used to be. β But it's just I I can't put time into it right now because I'm worried about the financial growth of Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: the company and my family as a whole. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. β for sure. Marcus: Yeah, that's why I brought it up. I mean, this is, this is real things that we need to put into consideration of what's more important right now. And to me, like, I mean, I joke around with just, you know, my golf game and all that, but to me, I mean, my golf game is good to where I need it to be to, you know, meet with customers and not be terrible out there and just have a good time. β like to get past that, I mean, it'd be nice, but is it a must have like for me, like probably not. SD Podcast - Jason: you Marcus: I'd really like to just be consistent. That's all I really need for my golf game. β And then I shoot what I shoot. β But everything else, you that's, what's important. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Alex: Yeah. Well, I'll say I think that puts in perspective because even playing the past two scrambles with you, too, because that's the most golf I've played. Right. I played a round with Marcus at the beginning of the year. A week after that, I played a single round at Fields Ranch with a buddy. And then I played two scrambles. So but those two scrambles have been after all of this photography stuff kind of popped off. β And I think I put so much value in being a good golfer. Like it was always driving like I'm just kind of person. I need to drive to something. And I would stress, I think I have swung more freely the past two rounds with each of you in a scramble β because I just don't care as much. And I say that in a bad way. It almost sounds bad, but like I don't tie anything to the outcome. It's like, I'm going to play golf. I'm going to get away. It's it truly, you know, I like to use, β Hey, by the way, I've been using Claude a lot more lately than Otis. β I like Claude. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Mm-mm. Alex: Just saying. So anyways, hey, I like it. β Claude seems nice. I've been talking to Claude and I'll run some just like mental health stuff by it every now and then. And obviously it's like, I'm not a therapist, I can do it anyways. So you do that whole gig. And β it was just saying that like golf to me has become that like... β SD Podcast - Jason: Brother I told me. Marcus: Hehehehehe Alex: Blanket on the word, it's just a hangout, right? Like it's just a good time. It's it's not. It's time to hang with my friends and play, and it's not like results driven anymore because I'm so focused on the result driven side of the company. β And I would agree like I go out and I don't care if I had a bad shot. We'll figure it out and we move on and I don't get worked up over anything and like I definitely had some bad shots with both of you when I played and it's. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: Okay, cool. Move on. Marcus: Yeah, couldn't tell. They were even killed. Just, yeah, I couldn't tell. were like, SD Podcast - Jason: Then. Alex: couldn't tell. SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah. I mean, there's moments. I mean, I've been that way the last couple of years is trying to like, understand it. But it's like, yeah, like Marissa, I'm not driven for score as much. Like I just want to play consistent. And that's where I start getting upset. It's like, I know I can hit certain shots consistently pretty well, but then it starts something that starts going weird. Then I get a little internally mad because I know I've played better or at least struck it better. And I mean, if putting it's because of battery or I just whatever, but, you know, I'm just like leaving the face open or standing too close to the ball or whatever it is. And I'm not getting the results that I normally do, but like that tournament I played, it's like, yeah, I shot a hundred or whatever it was. And it's just, I still finished strong, just stay with it and just still keep fixing and working on the mechanics of what Ben and those guys have been working on with me. Alex: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Yeah, I think when you're not results driven, yeah, I think when you're not results driven, you can focus a little bit more on what you're saying you want to focus on, right? The mechanics, because you're not worried about where the ball ended up. You're worried, okay, how does that swing feel? Like, I do what I wanted to do as far as a swing? And it's just an unlucky bounce or maybe the wind or maybe the wrong club, but it all is what it is, was the swing good? And when you're so just hyper-focused on just... SD Podcast - Jason: Cause I want to enjoy it. Yeah. Alex: that and not the result. think if I'm correct, and I'm probably not correct, but I want to say I heard a rumor that unless it's like an official round, like I want to say in places like Europe, they don't even play for score. Like it's just like a casual round. You just kind of go out and Like it's not like individual hole by hole score or something like that. Like it's kind of just the olden days where they would just put a tally for each stroke that you took through the round. it's like, at the end, you're like, okay, cool. I had 75 strokes. It doesn't matter if it was eight on a par five and a whole three hole in ones or something like that. Like they're not focused on the result. They're just out there to play. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. you Yeah, that's, that's where I'm at. I just want to feel better, swing better. Like I'm that tournament. I know there's few times I struck it beautiful, like phenomenal. Most yardage, no spalls, but like whatever hit something down the fairway and kicked off. like, I can't get mad. Like there's nothing I can do. Like that's the part of teaching the young kids. It's just like you hit it well. Like take the silver. Like I've tried to mention this like Alex: Yeah. SD Podcast - Jason: What went well there? I struck it well. Okay, good. Had my start line or I felt free when I, yeah, what was the positive? Forget about where the ball ended up trying to find something good about what happened in that whole sequence. And that way, hopefully you're starting to like curb that mentality of like, okay, I'm still doing good things. It's just, I said, wind pops up, you can hit it and all of a a gust kills it or it hits a sprinkler head and kicks off into the rough or hits something else and it launches into like the water and normally it wouldn't, you know, whatever. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, I agree. That's good. All right, gents, well, anything else? That was a wide range of stuff. I am looking forward, like, I will say over the past few weeks, as much as I've had other stuff to do, β and sometimes it does feel like, β we gotta get on, we have to almost feel on. I almost fell back into that. SD Podcast - Jason: So, you know. Marcus: Okay. Alex: Glad we're back on. I'm glad to get us back on a cadence because it's kind of just that outlet to talk, get everything out. So I'm glad we're back on the mics and β we'll find our new cadence because I know we were talking about moving recording days around, but it's good to be back. β Be a little more structured next time just because we won't have life stories to catch up on. I guess we'll have. a couple of golf tournaments to talk about. Got the PGA coming up, so that'll be nice. β Senior PGA is on right now, actually. β I haven't followed it. Well, yeah, the RBC on the PGA. I haven't followed any of it. So if y'all got nothing else. Marcus: Mm-hmm. SD Podcast - Jason: RBC, you know. Yeah, and then maybe maybe in the next week or two, we'll have more answers on live like what's happening there. Alex: Oh, yeah, we didn't even talk about that. I um, uh, maybe a little intentionally because I know I know nothing about what's going on other than what i've heard through some other podcasts, but um Yeah SD Podcast - Jason: We can save it. β it's, it's literally just the last 24, maybe 48 hours stuff has just popped up. And I thought it was just, β so much. And then it's like, no multiple media, like sports components have now been popping up and finding each one's finding a little bit more detail. And it's just like, Ooh, maybe there is something going on. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, I'm interested to see what happens there as well. That'll be fun. I'm also selfishly interested in the geopolitics because I'm tired of paying $5.50 a gallon for diesel gas. So I would love for the Strait of Hormuz to open up so we can get some gas here. Marcus: Mm-hmm. same. SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Yeah. Gosh, well, I thought it did open. I thought they said they did announce that it was opened. It still didn't help a lot because senior somebody said β they're still going to blockade it β even though it's open. Alex: I don't know. I don't know. All I know is I've been like... It has to get here. β Marcus: Okay. Alex: Dude, it's miserable. I've been driving Casey's car two to three times a week because she has the electric and because it's like, this is just ridiculous. Like we're spending so much money. So she's driving my truck for a lot more. It's it's it's fun. But anyways, all right. Well, anything else? Any last last thoughts? Marcus: You SD Podcast - Jason: I do have a question for you since you guys are in construction. β I think I looked at it a while ago, since they're doing a lot of expanding near our neighborhood. And I know I see it often when they, you know, they grade the ground and prep it for everything. What is the white powdery stuff that they put on the dirt before they set? Alex: Mm-hmm. Lime. So lime β soil, especially in Texas, β it's a lot of clay soils, which means it takes a lot of moisture. it's like anything. You unpack a box and you can never get it back in that box because it's packed so tightly. So when you open the dirt, it expands. A lot of that is moisture. So like when we put pad prep β underneath like a SD Podcast - Jason: Mmm Alex: Commercial building you do what's called moisture conditioning. So what you're doing is you're pumping water into it Then compacting it pump water and compact it because it expands compacts expands compacts and what you're trying to do is you're getting it to a point that the density on the soil is Which it won't expand anymore, which would cause a building foundation to mess up blah blah blah So lime is another way. They typically only do it on roadways But that's another way SD Podcast - Jason: Mm-hmm. Right. Yeah, because they're putting some new pathways. Alex: Yep, so that's another way to dry out the dirt and compact it so that it won't expand contract and blow out the pavement so lime Lime dries out compacts and hardens the dirt. So it's a good stable base for your roadway SD Podcast - Jason: Hmm. Gotcha. Okay. Yeah, I knew I've looked it up before and I was just like, because they just poured a bunch like a week or so ago and now they've got the rebar and everything for the new drive, whatever road they're adding. Sweet. Alex: Yeah. Yeah, it's an interesting process. It takes days because you have to do it, then you mix it, compact it, then you remix it, then grade it off with that Moto Grader and compact it again and get ready to build. So it's an interesting process. SD Podcast - Jason: Cool. Learn something new every day. Marcus: Mm-hmm. Alex: Marcus then puts his aggregates on top of the lime. SD Podcast - Jason: All right. Little fairy dust. Alex: You Can you go out there with your, I need you to go out there with your aggregates one day and just sprinkle. Just get great marketing. I will take the photo. It'll be great marketing. SD Podcast - Jason: You need to do that. Just be like, here, this is. Marcus: So we're sorry, I know we're about to cut off in that little outside of the arena there was like gravel outside and I was I was telling my kids I was like, do you know what kind of gravel this is? Like no, like this is pea gravel. And then my daughter goes, ah, I was like, not that kind of pee, like pea size. Like that's why it's called pea gravel. It's like, oh man, like I didn't even think about that. But she just immediately, we're like, ah, just, don't, I don't need this, but yes. Yeah. I don't want to touch it anymore. Yeah. That'd be a good photo. Let me know when. Little saying bae. Alex: You I don't wanna touch it. That's funny. SD Podcast - Jason: That's funny. That's funny. Alex: That would be low. β yeah for the calendar Alright guys. Well, β Everyone we're glad to be back. Just give us a like and a follow Spotify Apple YouTube every Wednesday morning at whatever 6 a.m They released 7 a.m. Something like that. Ask Jason β Anything, you know Wrangler retro heavily starched Jason in the show notes β Anything else will be in the show notes β SD Podcast - Jason: Yeah, yep. Yep. Marcus: I'm Alex: as far as link to our music. We don't call out our DJ that did our music for us β enough. β What is it? DJ Bobby linked in the show notes. So go hit him up and guys we'll be on next week. SD Podcast - Jason: DJ Bavi. All right, talk to you later. Alex: See ya.
