- 5:24Why not? I was afraid I told you there was nothing to worry about
- 5:29it. What are you going to see that character again? Night? You
- 5:33better come home with good news. But I don't know what to tell him.
- 5:38That is what I told you, that I get dressed. They mustn't
- 5:42keep dear cal waiting, waiter, say, waiter, yes, that was
- 5:58anybody asking for me. I don't believe so, sir, Well, will
- 6:00you tell the captain if I miss fame more than honey? I was getting
- 6:05worried. I'm sorry I'm late, but would you get the water now?
- 6:09Mister? I'll have it my teenage. I wish you wouldn't, darling,
- 6:14huh. I hate to see you drink so much. Never mind, waiter,
- 6:17I'll call you when ready of order, I think call. I'm sorry.
- 6:23I didn't mean to embarrass. It isn't as though I were a drunk.
- 6:26I didn't say you were, dear, But drinking is a week.
- 6:29You start off with one and the next thing I know, I'm in an
- 6:31alcoholic ward making fun of me. Well, it is kind of funny.
- 6:36I think I'm a prude, and I wouldn't change you for the world.
- 6:42Oh fair, I'm crazy about you, and I'm crazy about you. Be
- 6:47something to remember when I'm far away from here. We're talking about it.
- 6:53I'm leaving Chicago. Tomorrow. But why I can't tell you. I won't
- 6:56let you go. Do you think I want to marry what I made?
- 7:01Oh, darling, i'd love to. Then, then why don't you I
- 7:05can't don't ask, but I am asking. I won't let you go.
- 7:11You really want me to stay, of course, then get me fifty thousand
- 7:15dollars. What the reason I'm leaving Chicago is because of Vaughn? Your brother?
- 7:21Yes, he got mixed up with some bad company cow he gambled and
- 7:28he lost fifty grand. Yes, but what's I got to do with you?
- 7:31We will kill Von if he doesn't pay off. Who does he owe
- 7:34the money too? Maybe I could get my boss to talk to Oh no,
- 7:38no, no, you mustn't let mister Lyons do that. Why don't
- 7:40you let Vaughan run away by himself? You don't understand, darling. You're
- 7:44so strong and Vaughn so weak. He couldn't get by without me. I'm
- 7:48not gonna let you ruin your life, and I kind of him. Wait,
- 7:53I got an idea. I know how we can raise the money.
- 7:56We could let you or mister Lyons sort of lone to me? What are
- 8:00you talking of that? Well is the accountant for mister Lyon's enterprises. You're
- 8:03in charge of the money they take out of the slot machine. So you
- 8:07told me they don't deposit the money, but once a week. I bet
- 8:09there must be at least fifty thousand dollars in the office at a time.
- 8:11How local, isn't there? Yes, we're suppose one night there was a
- 8:16hold up? Are you kidding? It isn't as though we're actually stealing.
- 8:24After all, slot machines aren't legal. You realize where that money comes from,
- 8:28even little children's that got to do with everything? To do you think
- 8:33i'd let you do this If mister Lions actually earn that money, he's just
- 8:37taking it out of the pockets of the poor. Oh you're crazy. Well
- 8:43that's the way he is. No, no faith, don't go. I
- 8:46ask you a simple favor. Do you know what Frenchy Lions would do to
- 8:50me if he found out that he doesn't have to find out? People are
- 8:54robbed every day in the year. You can't help it if one night they
- 8:58happen to pick on you. What do you think, dear? Don't you
- 9:03want me to be missus Calvin Meyers? Well, then we'll consider the whole
- 9:11thing settled. Now, suppose you aughder yourself a drink. Oh, really,
- 9:16darling, I don't mind if you do. Twelve thousand, eight hundred
- 9:28and forty one, three hundred ninety seven fourteen one hundred and sixty five on
- 9:35those figures, cow, I'll have them in about them? How mister Lyons
- 9:39you said that? It's no Sorry, I don't know what's the matter with
- 9:41me. Got a bad headache and let it go. But you can do
- 9:46it the first thing in the morning. No, I'd rather finish up now.
- 9:48But maybe hit'll twelve. I don't mind. Well, maybe you don't
- 9:52call, but I happen to have an engagement. Well I can lock up.
- 9:56No, I wouldn't think of you. Really, I don't mind at
- 9:58all. I got nothing better than do. What about the same, I'll
- 10:01take care of everything, all right. Would you like me to send buzz
- 10:05off with some coffee? No, I'll be fine too hard h m hm
- 10:18hm fin No, No, I can't. I just h one hello,
- 10:35Hey, Yes, this this is cal Tell her tell your brother. I'll
- 10:43be here in fifteen minutes. Oh no, I mean oh son sick,
- 11:01wow, honey, Oh this is go check loom alone. Well, if
- 11:13it isn't the one in all the French allions? Now I know it's true.
- 11:16What you really are amazing? Can I come in? What is it?
- 11:18Business? Is social? Because if it's business, you have an office
- 11:20in the Prescott Building. Hey, come to think of it, I have
- 11:24ought to take a run over there someday and see what goes. Sit down,
- 11:28thanks, join me in a nightcap. Nightcap between breakfast and lunch.
- 11:33It's midnight in Hawaii. Oh, what's on your mind? French? Ye?
- 11:37I have a problem alone, haven't we all? Yeah? But mine
- 11:39cost me in the neighborhood of seventy thousand. That's a nice neighborhood. Well,
- 11:43somebody tapped a tillo at my office last night, and you got an
- 11:46idea who that somebody is? Yeah? I left the boy named cal Myers
- 11:50in charge. According to history, a couple of hoods walked in at eleven
- 11:54o'clock and made him open the scene. But you don't believe it. Nope,
- 11:56you're covered by insurance. All my advice to you is by the police.
- 12:01Is that all you consecuention? That's all? Won't do? I want
- 12:05to keep this strictly in the family. Or if you're going to ignore my
- 12:07advice, Bryanchie, I don't know why you came here. I'm beginning to
- 12:09think it was a mistake too. I'm sorry I bought it. Your counselor
- 12:15believe me, it won't happen again. What twenty forty sixty eighty one hundred?
- 12:31How much did you say I owed you, Willie? One hundred and
- 12:33sixty? I thought I was one hundred and forty. Oh yeah, yeah,
- 12:37I was thinking of somebody else. You're a nice boy, will you?
- 12:41A little mercenary, but still a nice boy you are. Thanks,
- 12:45Miss Morgan. It's a pleasure to do business with me. I'll well,
- 12:48I better be getting down to my stand my customers. What's the matter,
- 12:52Willie? Don't you like me? I was thinking of your brother? Run
- 12:58forgetting? What was that? I don't know what it seemed to it is
- 13:03somebody on the fire escape? Hey, heye, beat it, Willie?
- 13:07Beat it? Sure, Miss smoking anything you're saying, thanks for taking care
- 13:11of I know you. It's okay. Hey wait a minute, will you
- 13:20thank Sony? What's the idea now? I couldn't help myself. Frenchy Lions
- 13:24is looking for me? And why did you come here? Don't have any
- 13:26choice, Faye, we got a blow Todd, Are you kidding? I'm
- 13:31crazy about Chicago? But Donald, you promised, you said we'd get married.
- 13:37Well, that raises a problem, mister Myers. You listen to me,
- 13:41Vaughn. If it wasn't for you, I wouldn't time to think of
- 13:43it it as my fault. Did you see you when I first met Faye?
- 13:46I was carried away? You first met her? Oh didn't she tell
- 13:50you we're married? You? Yeah? On October eighth, nineteen forty nine.
- 13:58To be exact, you should have seen her in those days, Cows,
- 14:01she was a doll. Darling. We mustn't quarrel in front of strangers
- 14:07unless he's leaving. No, you're not going to make a chump on of
- 14:11me. Nobody had to. You did it all on your own. Go
- 14:15on, suck her blow. No, I'm staying here until to got anything
- 14:24more to say, And on your way, and don't slam that door.
- 14:33Well you were wonderful, Bonn. You handle that with your customary, isn't
- 14:37it. Where did that racing forum come from? Got friends? That's not
- 14:41all you've got? What did you do with the dough? Dough? Don't
- 14:46go dull on me, where'd you put the money? That's for me to
- 14:48know and you to find out. You don't mean that fame. You wouldn't
- 14:54double cross your one and only, wouldn't I? Yeah, I guess you
- 14:58would have that, and it's probably just what I deserve. Eh, what
- 15:05do you think you got coming to you? No? No one, no
- 15:11doubt. Yeah that you amazing? Now who else would it be? Brook?
- 15:28But of course what's on your mind? Lieutenant? Now that's a pretty
- 15:31silly question. What have I usually got on my mind? Yeah? I
- 15:33should have known. I'm talking about business. Oh have you heard of a
- 15:37girl named Fay Morgan? When you're going to She was knocked off at seven
- 15:41o'clock last night. What's I got to do with me? Maybe? Everything?
- 15:43We grabbed a killer and he wants you to defend him. What's his
- 15:46name? Cal Myers? Cal Myers? Boy who works for frenchy Lions?
- 15:50Yeah, tell me something counts? Why is it no sooner we nab somebody?
- 15:52They always screamed from alone. Oh what are you complaining about, lieutenant?
- 15:56That they didn't, we'd both be out of work. Tell mister Myers,
- 15:58I'll be over in fifteen minute. You are listening to the amazing mistem
- 16:15alone. Now that nice weather is definitely here, you probably check through your
- 16:21fishing stuff and given the car an overhaul, and you're ready for some weekending
- 16:25in the country. Well. Out of the hundreds of forest fires in America
- 16:30every year, nine out of ten are caused by carelessness. Don't be careless.
- 16:37Don't drop a lighted cigar, cigarette or pipe ashes. Break matches in
- 16:41two before throwing them away. Build your campfire in a sheltered spot and drown
- 16:48it carefully before you leave it. And check the local fire laws before using
- 16:52any fire at all. Our forests are a great natural resource, and protecting
- 16:57them is our responsibility. Remember, only you can prevent a forest fire.
- 17:06And now back to the amazing mister Malone. There's one thing I'll have to
- 17:22say for myself, because if I don't, no one else will. I'm
- 17:26a man of my word. Here, I promise Lieutenant Brooks I'd be over
- 17:29in fifteen minutes, and I was. It was exactly two thirty when I
- 17:32walked in the cow Myers South, and at two thirty one I was ready
- 17:36to walk out. I love Malone. All I can tell you is that
- 17:37I didn't kill Fame Morgan Why does Lieutenant Brooks here think you did? Oh?
- 17:41I can't help it if he's an idiots, Well, I've been promoted.
- 17:44He called me a nimbusilt before. Don't let it go to your head.
- 17:47What kind of a routine a you call list? Anyway? I see
- 17:48cow Brooks and I enjoy a very unusual relationship. Yeah, you're both very
- 17:53unusual guys. Hey, you know he's a good counselate. We ought to
- 17:56take him into the egg. Are you gonna get me out of here?
- 17:59Malon all pens? Did you kill fame? Organ? Forgive me for even
- 18:02asking you? Mind telling me what you had against the girl? Absolutely nothing?
- 18:06Yet the police have a witness who sweare she threw you out of her
- 18:07apartner that was born Bonn her husband? What are you smirking for? Lieutenant?
- 18:12I knew Faye was married. Well that makes it even better, you
- 18:17mine? That's very funny. No, no, I was just thinking you'll
- 18:19work for frenchy lions. So someone walked out of his office last night with
- 18:22close to seventy grand And when'd you pick that up? I got a rumble.
- 18:26What's the connection? You tell us? Malone? Whose side are you
- 18:30on? Anyway? Now either you want this casey you don't. All as
- 18:33long as you put it on that basis, I don't let me have.
- 18:34Lieutenant s Along caw lots of luck with your new liar. Don't mention this,
- 18:41you know something Along? Yeah, I wasted a lot of time.
- 18:42You know it's lucky you didn't go any further. You had ruined your record.
- 18:45This is one boy you'd never get, are you sua and I take
- 18:47only the easy ones? Oh heavens No, you don't think I can get
- 18:49them off? Huh? I know you can. Well, if this is
- 18:52what you wanted, Lieutenant, you couldn't have planted better go on back and
- 18:55tell myers I've changed my mind. Yeah, get you're reading in paper here.
- 19:08All the ladies knew paper missed. Uh you got a raise inform?
- 19:12You bet you. You wouldn't happen to know how strong he did in the
- 19:15fourth of Hollywood he won page sixteen eighty. Well, you know no,
- 19:21I couldn't find a bookie. Well, any time you're looking for a little
- 19:23action, let me know, woll it's good to know U. WILLI Willie
- 19:27Nelson. It's nice meeting you, Willie. You look like a pretty sharp
- 19:30boy. I don't miss me. I'll bet you don't. Didn't you discover
- 19:34Fay Morgan's body? You were no, but I heard that when you went
- 19:38up to deliver the papers to her apartment this morning you found it. Mister.
- 19:41I got to get back to my stay. Well, ten bucks by
- 19:44a couple of minutes of your time? How about twenty? I'm sorry,
- 19:47but I wait a minute. Don't I know you from some place? I
- 19:52don't know, do you? What'd you say your name was? I didn't
- 19:56say, but it's Malone, Malone, John Jay? You and that lawyer,
- 20:00ain't you? I don't know if I am that lawyer? Say?
- 20:03I know all about you, mister Malone. My mother always wanted me to
- 20:06be a lawyer. I better you should stick to your newspapers. Now about
- 20:07that twenty bucks? Oh, I wouldn't take any money from you. It's
- 20:11the privilege to cooperate, they asked, asked me anything you want. What
- 20:14kind of a girl was this Fay Morgan? Okay, if you're a horse,
- 20:18huh? She was nuts about the nags? Oh? Oh, do
- 20:22you think killed him? Mister Maas? Of course? What do you say?
- 20:25Of course little cops grabbed him. You saw cal Myers come out of
- 20:29her building. Sure, right after mister Morgan went up to see you.
- 20:30I want Morgan leave. Oh I couldn't say I didn't see him, but
- 20:33your positive Myers left before he did. Absolutely I saw him come out myself.
- 20:37Of course, that don't mean he couldn't come back again. Wouldn't you
- 20:41have noticed him? No, not if he went into the fire escape like
- 20:44he did the first turn. He was the fire escape, and believe me,
- 20:47he had a right to that. Mister Lyons was plenty sore lions.
- 20:49Don't tell me he was here too. Yeah, he was looking for Myers
- 20:52to tell after the cops they didn't ask him. That serves him right.
- 20:56Well, this has been a pleasure. Well they let's do it again real
- 20:59soon. Right now, I gotta go do it to mister Lyons. Don't
- 21:11almost understand me alone. I'm taken of death. You drop five, But
- 21:15I still don't understand your reason. Well, I'm representing cal Myers who cal
- 21:19Myers used to work for you. I'm sorry I can't place the name.
- 21:23Well, just to refresh your memory when you came to my apartment, this
- 21:26scene came to your next you'll tell me nobody waltzed off with seventy grand of
- 21:30yours last night, Malone, you're sure you feel all right? Well?
- 21:33If I don't, I know it's responsible now the way I see it,
- 21:37French, of you knew cal Myers was sweet on Fame Morgan? Is that
- 21:38the ways? Yeah? You probably figured she and her husband wound up with
- 21:41your dough. You're out of your mind? And why were you looking for
- 21:45cal? Who said I was? I have it on what win you would
- 21:48call excellent atthority. As a matter of fact, the same reliable source puts
- 21:52you on the scene right about the time Fame Morgan was murdered. You disappoint
- 21:55me, Malone. I thought you were smiling. I guess I must be
- 21:57pressing too hard. Sorry, I'll let you down. French, those things

- 22:25Oh? I think I got a lead for you. Remember you asking me
- 22:27about Vaughan Morgan. Don't tell me he came back to the apartment. Yeah,
- 22:32about five minutes ago. He wanted the key to his wife's room.
- 22:34You get it. No, the super wouldn't give it to him. Where
- 22:37is Morgan now? He's hanging around the entrance. Listen, Willie, you
- 22:40can't let me down. You must be on good terms with the superintendent.
- 22:41Well, he hit me for one hundred and eight bucks on a long shot
- 22:45yesterday and he ought to feel real friendly today. Get the key and go
- 22:48up to the room. I'll be over as fast as I can just the
- 22:59second. Miss come alone? Come on, hello, Willie? What are
- 23:04you you're doing here? Mister Morgan? You wouldn't believe it if I told
- 23:07you. You know, the cops won't like it if they find out.
- 23:11Who's gonna tell them? You gave strict orders? No, no one,
- 23:14No one was supposed to come in here. You're here, Well, I'm
- 23:17I'm I'm waiting for a friend. I'll try to keep out of your way.
- 23:21What happened to my wife's grip? Will he? I don't know this.
- 23:25Police must have taken wats that under the bed. You better not touch
- 23:27that, mister Morgan. Pull it out? No, no, I will
- 23:30not have I don't know why Faith thought you were so accommodating. I can't

- 24:12Your celebrity? Wasn't your wife murdered? Who are you? Nobody?
- 24:15You know? But I think you know my boss? Your boss, Yeah,
- 24:19fellow named Frenchy Lines. Ah, it's waiting for you my car.
- 24:22Would you like to talk to him? Thanks? Tom On Morgan gets smart.
- 24:26I'm not keeping his hand in my pocket to protect a manicure. Where
- 24:30do we go? Just around the corner. I hope that grip isn't too
- 24:36heavy for you. But you look like a big strong boy. I wish
- 24:41I had the time to hear. Look, I'm glad to see you go
- 24:47get in lines. I'll be glad to I expect to learn a great deal,
- 24:52all right, boss? Why is a nice quiet spot when mister Morgan
- 24:56can talk to his Alright, you are listening to the amazing Mister Malone.
- 25:19Three chimes mean Good Times on NBC Sunday on NBC, Rosalind Russell and Burgess
- 25:25Meredith co star in Biography, Theater Guild on the Air's final broadcast of the
- 25:29season. First produced on Broadway by the Theater Guild in nineteen thirty two,
- 25:33Biography deals with a second rate female portrait painter whose life story about to be
- 25:37published might embroil a number of her male subjects, particularly one with political ambitions.
- 25:45This comedy, featuring two of your favorite Hollywood stars, is sure to
- 25:48be a must in your Sunday listening lineup. Sunday also means another visit with
- 25:52the owners of that world renowned dream house, Mister and Missus Blandings. The
- 25:56Blandings, as portrayed by Kerry Grant and Betts, I just average people with
- 26:02a better than average nack of getting themselves into situations that mean just one thing,
- 26:06a load of laughs for you the radio listening. So remember Theater Guild
- 26:10on the Air and mister and Missus Blandings Sunday over this station. And now
- 26:17back to the amazing, mister Malone. A boy named Kipling once wrote a
- 26:33poem and titled if Now there's a song with the same name. I ought
- 26:37to use it for my own personal theme. If I hadn't stopped off with
- 26:41Lieutenant Brooks, and if I had gone immediately to see the obliging newsboy Willie
- 26:45Nelson after his phone call, things might have turned out differently. But there's
- 26:48that big if again. Anyway, When the Lieutenant and I walked into Fame
- 26:52Morgan's hotel room, Willie was still waiting at some water. Malone, I
- 26:56say, no, someone only did a crouper and this. Uh yeah,
- 27:00he's gonna tone now how about that water? Sure? Never mind, Lieutenant,
- 27:04I'm all right. I thought. The first thing they always said was
- 27:07what happened? I don't have to ask? Was he? I suppose you
- 27:11tell us? Will he let me up? Second thought? Maybe a bit
- 27:15of park where I am? Who did it? Mister Morgan? What they
- 27:18want? I don't know. Must have been after the bank roll. You're
- 27:21crazy. We took this place apart? Well, it was a grip under
- 27:23the bed, is it there? Now? They must have stashed the money
- 27:26in there. Your that's Malone. There was nothing in that bag. I
- 27:29examined it personally. It didn't look hard enough. Oh, I'm sure I
- 27:30did. Malone. Hey, lieutenant, look who's here? Well, hello
- 27:36French, he come on in. I have a couple of friends waiting outside.
- 27:38Would you mind not at all of all the merrier you want him too?
- 27:44Well? Well, old homely, you know we've been looking for you,
- 27:47Morgan. Where you have been was a nice sort of took him under
- 27:49our wing, and from the looks of him, I say you must have
- 27:52flown pretty high and dropped him. Accidents will happened. Well, But now
- 27:55that we're all here, I suppose we call the meeting to order that correction.
- 27:57Mister chairman, we're not all here about your client. Calm well,
- 28:00he's accounted for. Will the secretary read the minutes? May I have the
- 28:03floor? Chare recognizes mister Lyons. I'm oh, we dispensed with this charming
- 28:07piece of whimsy and get down the business. Yeah, I second emotion.
- 28:11You oppose Van I think he means no. Welly don't mind me, mister
- 28:17Lyons. There's a problem, gentlemen. I think we should all give our
- 28:19immediate consideration. I mean the murder of Fay Morgan. I don't consider that
- 28:22a problem. Oh then you know who killed her? No, and frankly,
- 28:26I don't care. What concerns me is the return of seventy thousand dollars.
- 28:30Oh that's a mercenary attitude, France. You hear a beautiful young thing
- 28:33has been violently put the death, and all you're interested in his money?
- 28:36All right, help maud Willy Hey tell him where you hit it? Right?
- 28:41Hit it? How? Look? What are you getting at? Llon?
- 28:41What do you think kill? Faye Morgan? Uh? Huh, you're
- 28:45crazy. I'm surprised at you, Willie. Didn't anyone ever tell you you
- 28:48can't get away with murder? You're supposed to be a smart bookie, and
- 28:51that's one big tip you overlook. No coffee, gentlemen, not things,
- 29:14say Malone? Oh lieutenant, why does this have to happen every week?
- 29:18So do you think I enjoyed? If it wasn't for you, you know
- 29:19where I'd be? Yeah? Right behind the eight ball. Oh that's good,
- 29:22that's really good. Wow. What do you want to know? Just
- 29:26one thing, Malone? What made you decide on Willie Nelson? It all
- 29:30came down a button. Button? Who's got the button? And if you
- 29:32know the game, you'll see Willie was a cinch to be it. I
- 29:34don't see why Malone, no one else had French. He's money and it's
- 29:37obvious fame. Morgan wasn't killed until she die balls where she hit it.
- 29:40Well, a husband might have had the dough. He had he never gone
- 29:42back to the hotel and run the risk of being picked up by lions in
- 29:45company. No, Brooks said, had to be Willie. He had the
- 29:48best position of Maul. He was right on top of every play. Yeah,
- 29:52what about your client? Call myers? What about him? But how
- 29:56do you know he didn't have the money? That's easy. If he had,
- 29:59I would have got and you wouldn't be stuck for this chake. Good
- 30:03night, Lieutenant, never hear the story of the boy. Was bored with
- 30:18it all until he brought himself a gun. From then on he got a
- 30:22big bang on a life. I've said you all about him next week,
- 30:25so why not pick me up at my office at the same time. I'll
- 30:26be waiting for you. Good Night. George Petrie was starred as John J.
- 30:40Malone, with Larry Haynes as Lieutenant Brooks. Our program is written by
- 30:45Gene Wang and directed by Richard Lewis. The Amazing Mister Malone is based on
- 30:48a character created by Craig Rice and produced by Bernard L. Schubert. The
- 30:53events and characters in this story were entirely fictional, and any resemblance to person
- 31:00living on Dead is entirely coincidental. Fred Collin speaking, the Amazing Mister Malone
- 31:06has come to you from New York. Stay tuned for the man called X.
- 31:15Next overmost NBC stations, welcome back. Oh no, Willie Nelson murderer.
- 31:30Actually, they had an episode a Monk where Nelson guest starred and was
- 31:36suspected of murder, though eventually cleared. It's somewhat interesting. You'll hear this
- 31:42every so often. There'll be a name of a character on the program that
- 31:48was not famous then, but he is coincidentally pretty famous now. Another example
- 31:53of this is there's an episode of Yours Truly Johnny Dollar. Once they get
- 32:00past the fifteen minute episodes, it's called the Jimmy Carter Matter. And there
- 32:07was some a gentleman who was reviewing some of the Dragnet comic strips, and
- 32:14there was actually a character who was involved in narcotics whose name was Jimmy Hendricks.
- 32:22Some of those weird moments. We got that in this episode. There
- 32:27weren't many other highlights. Well, the solutions it seemed a little bit contrived
- 32:35to say the lace, but it's sometimes the case on these but with the
- 32:39Malone mysteries, it's not necessarily the cleverness of the solution, it's the fun
- 32:45you have getting there. All right, Well, on to listener comments and
- 32:49feedback, and we begin with this from David, who says, please,
- 32:55please, please, if you have to do commentaries, then please learn how
- 33:01to comment professionally. You are in fact spoiling the OTA presentations. And we
- 33:08have actually some other listener comments in regards to previous comments along the same lines.
- 33:16We have this from a listener on iTunes who writes, I first down
- 33:23alloted to these podcasts to get me through long plane plots. I've since become
- 33:28an addict. I can't hear a phone ring now without expecting it to be
- 33:32followed by snappy Johnny Dollar. It's great to listen to these radio shows,
- 33:37especially the serialized Johnny Dollar in sequence the way they were meant to be heard.
- 33:42And anyone who does not appreciate Adam Graham's charming and sometimes quirky commentary has
- 33:47no soul. And then we have this from Lane, who responds my reply
- 33:54to the guy who offered to buy you off to eliminate your voiceover. It's
- 33:59free and it's called archive dot org. Thanks in large part to your dedication
- 34:04to only sharing one hundred percent legal content. Anyone who doesn't want your commentary
- 34:07can download the source for free themselves. Perhaps then they'll realize how much work
- 34:13you're doing to research, organize, and select these shows, not to mention
- 34:15the post prediction production work you must be doing on your commentary, and I
- 34:20didn't really appreciate until I started podcasting myself. Well, thanks so much for
- 34:27the comment, Blane. And this whole question does seem to be something that
- 34:30goes in cycles, and that I think established listeners they listen to the show
- 34:39because they enjoy or at least they get used to the commentary and appreciate it,
- 34:50or they just adjust to it. And then we have people who rotate
- 34:53on start listening and don't get it or don't like it. It's definitely quite
- 35:00a bit of time that goes into the program. It's hard to calculate because
- 35:05a lot of it. I don't strictly think as work. I guess culturally
- 35:12because I tend to think of work as the stuff that you do to get
- 35:16paid for that you may or may not care for particularly much, and so
- 35:24prep time is often reading books, searching websites, studying and becoming more aware
- 35:32on the topic, as well as listening to shows so that you're even outside
- 35:38of the detective genre so you develop some good knowledge. Thankfully, most of
- 35:45the organizing has in terms of locating the shows, has been done by others.
- 35:51The toughest series to get everything organized with has been The Lineup, but
- 35:57really blessed by the digital delis log which allowed us to do that series at
- 36:04all. A lot of time goes into doing six day a week podcast.
- 36:08Thankfully, Andrew takes care of a lot of my or most of the post
- 36:13production work on the show. In terms of the editing and stuff, it
- 36:19would be a lot more difficult, probably another three or four hours a week,
- 36:25though of course Andrew liked me. We both got regular job, so
- 36:34there's just a limit to what we can do here, and I always honestly
- 36:38welcome advice on how we can do the show better in a really concrete way.
- 36:45Right off. When I first the first started the series, I did
- 36:50a huge introduction that could choke a horse when we were doing the pilot podcast,
- 36:59and a listener really said that I was not a good idea to do
- 37:04that much commentary before the show, and so it kind of changed, you
- 37:08know, how we did commentary, really backloaded it so that folks who didn't
- 37:15like the commentary could just get the stop button when it was done, and
- 37:20those who enjoyed the commentary could enjoy it better without having to get through a
- 37:27ton of stuff at the beginning of the show. And of course we did
- 37:30have the listener who made a really good case for making Johnny Dollar first on
- 37:37Fridays. And so I do want to be clear, I don't want any
- 37:42listeners to think, you know, he's just so sensitive or close to any
- 37:46sort of feedback, because I'm definitely not. If you have an idea how
- 37:51we can do something better that's concrete but actually can be helpful, and it's
- 37:55great to have those conversations, But for the pace stick couple of weeks we've
- 38:00had kind of the feedback that's not really constructive. But I appreciate so much
- 38:07both Blaine and Dash's thought on the topics and all the support that we get
- 38:13from so many great listeners. All right, well, that will do it
- 38:15for today. We will be back tomorrow with the Laird Douglas Douglas of Heatherschorn
- 38:23Matter Parts three and four, and then join us back here for another episode
- 38:28of the Amazing Mister Malone next Tuesday. In the meantime, you can leave
- 38:31us a voicemail two eight nine nine one four seven eight three, follow us
