- 0:05[SPEAKER_01]: I taught her COVID.
- 0:06[SPEAKER_01]: The job was actually sucking the life out of me.
- 0:09[SPEAKER_01]: My kids were a little at that point.
- 0:11[SPEAKER_01]: They were five and three at the time.
- 0:12[SPEAKER_01]: It was a Monday morning and I was driving my kids up to my mother-in-law.
- 0:17[SPEAKER_01]: It was like six a.m.
- 0:18[SPEAKER_01]: It's like dark outside still so she could take them to school.
- 0:20[SPEAKER_01]: I said to them on the way up to my mother-in-law as I said, I already can't wait for next weekend.
- 0:25[SPEAKER_01]: And my older son was like, yeah, because you hate your job.
- 0:29[SPEAKER_01]: That was the moment for me that I was like, I'm not doing this anymore.
- 0:32[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I said to my husband, I said, I'll go work in it, trader Joe's if I have to.
- 0:35[SPEAKER_01]: You can feel scared.
- 0:37[SPEAKER_01]: And also, you can move.
- 0:39[SPEAKER_01]: You can take steps forward.
- 0:41[SPEAKER_01]: I had decided that nothing was going to stop you.
- 0:43[SPEAKER_01]: And it didn't.
- 0:44[SPEAKER_00]: Hi, Sandy.
- 0:45[SPEAKER_00]: Welcome to the show.
- 0:46[SPEAKER_00]: I want to jump right in and have you introduce yourself and definitely highlight what you were doing before you
- 0:55[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, okay.
- 0:56[SPEAKER_01]: Well, first of all, thank you so much for having me.
- 0:58[SPEAKER_01]: I'm always thrilled to be here with you.
- 1:00[SPEAKER_01]: I'm Sandy Patterson.
- 1:02[SPEAKER_01]: I am a business in mindset coach and before I became a coach, I was actually a kindergarten teacher.
- 1:08[SPEAKER_01]: I taught kindergarten for a long time.
- 1:10[SPEAKER_00]: So how do you go from kindergarten teacher to business and mindset coach?
- 1:16[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I think this is the gap that so many perspective new coaches run into.
- 1:20[SPEAKER_00]: Like, how do I take this skill that I'm really good at?
- 1:24[SPEAKER_00]: or at least have been doing for a long time and package it into something new.
- 1:29[SPEAKER_00]: So like how did you make that transition?
- 1:31[SPEAKER_01]: So I was a teacher for 14 years.
- 1:33[SPEAKER_01]: And like so many people I think we go to school, we do the thing, we go to college, we get the degree, we get the credential, we spend all that money getting this education and then we go out and we get the job and then that's really supposed to be it, right?
- 1:46[SPEAKER_01]: Like that's, that was it for me.
- 1:47[SPEAKER_01]: That was, that was gonna retire, teaching kindergarten in room K1.
- 1:51[SPEAKER_01]: at the same school like that was going to be it for me and at one point on my journey of teaching I just decided that like there there has to be more out here.
- 2:00[SPEAKER_01]: I decided I was like it's now is your time to either put your head down and you're going to retire here like that's the plan or you try something new like there has to be something else out there and I just had that little nudge like so many of us do.
- 2:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like there has to be more than this, there has to be like, I want to do this for another 30 years and how long you've been teaching for at that point.
- 2:23[SPEAKER_01]: Um, at that point 13 14 years.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 2:25[SPEAKER_01]: I had been to 13 13 years and then I left at after your 14.
- 2:29[SPEAKER_01]: So yeah, I just decided I'm like, you know what, like, let's just make the leap and let's go.
- 2:35[SPEAKER_01]: And at that time, I didn't even know.
- 2:37[SPEAKER_01]: I, I go wasn't like, I'm going to be a coach.
- 2:39[SPEAKER_01]: I was just like, I just know that I need to get out of here.
- 2:42[SPEAKER_01]: And I'm going to do whatever takes to to make that happen.
- 2:44[SPEAKER_01]: So while I was still teaching and while my boys were little I started another business, which was a freelance curriculum writing business.
- 2:53[SPEAKER_01]: It was fine.
- 2:54[SPEAKER_01]: It was good.
- 2:55[SPEAKER_01]: It was just, you know, it was like my wheelhouse, whatever, paint the bills and allowed me to stay out of teaching, you know, during that first year.
- 3:02[SPEAKER_01]: But I knew, and I think so many people that are in service professions will resonate with this, but that we have this need this, like, really deep desire to help people on a deeper level.
- 3:14[SPEAKER_01]: I think that.
- 3:15[SPEAKER_01]: goes away for people who have this like thing inside of like I am so about relationships I am so about people and so about connections.
- 3:23[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and that's always just then who I am and I think that's part of why I was such a great teacher So I started there and I knew I was like I don't I don't this isn't gonna be my forever thing the curriculum writing wasn't gonna be my forever thing
- 3:35[SPEAKER_01]: And at that time, when I transitioned, I actually hired a life coach for myself.
- 3:40[SPEAKER_01]: I didn't know what it was.
- 3:41[SPEAKER_01]: But I was like, I know that I need some sort of support to make this really big life change that I wasn't really anticipating.
- 3:48[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not support.
- 3:49[SPEAKER_01]: And going from working for someone else to working.
- 3:53[SPEAKER_01]: For yourself.
- 3:55[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, what do I even do with my time?
- 3:57[SPEAKER_01]: And I really credit her.
- 3:59[SPEAKER_01]: She changed the trajectory of my life in the best way because I know if it hadn't been for her I would have like spooked myself and like turned around and gone back not because I wanted to but because that was the easy thing.
- 4:10[SPEAKER_01]: That was the safe thing.
- 4:11[SPEAKER_01]: That was the familiar thing.
- 4:12[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah
- 4:13[SPEAKER_00]: Well, it was also a good thing that you went to school for, which I think is a lot of people's hang up, like, but I already learned how to do this and I'm already invested and I've already spent so many years of my life committed to this thing like how could I possibly go learn something new.
- 4:29[SPEAKER_01]: Right.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, yeah.
- 4:30[SPEAKER_01]: And there's a lot of like guilt and like fear around that.
- 4:34[SPEAKER_01]: Like nobody wants to be a beginner.
- 4:35[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody wants to do something new.
- 4:37[SPEAKER_01]: Nobody wants to look like like they don't know what they're talking about it.
- 4:40[SPEAKER_01]: First, but really that's part of the process with anything and life,
- 4:51[SPEAKER_01]: So enter IGC and coach training have with through that whole entire coach training program.
- 4:56[SPEAKER_01]: I was student trainer.
- 4:57[SPEAKER_01]: I went through leaders rising.
- 4:58[SPEAKER_01]: I basically did every single program that you have out there to learn more.
- 5:02[SPEAKER_01]: And yeah, in January of 2023, I officially launched my
- 5:07[SPEAKER_01]: coaching business and I really haven't looked back since.
- 5:10[SPEAKER_01]: And now I'm working my business, my coaching business full time now.
- 5:14[SPEAKER_01]: It's all that I do.
- 5:15[SPEAKER_01]: And I really just, I like pinch myself every day.
- 5:18[SPEAKER_01]: I'm like, the wait, this is what I get to do.
- 5:20[SPEAKER_01]: This is how I get to support people in a really deep way.
- 5:24[SPEAKER_01]: And I think those things, like I mentioned before,
- 5:27[SPEAKER_01]: about relationships and connections and just being able to listen and really care for people.
- 5:34[SPEAKER_01]: That's part of why I mean coaching just felt like the natural next things for me.
- 5:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 5:40[SPEAKER_00]: So was it you hiring a coach that introduced you to the concept of coaching?
- 5:45[SPEAKER_00]: Like how did you even find her?
- 5:48[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, I've found her through a podcast.
- 5:51[SPEAKER_01]: She was a guest on somebody else's podcast.
- 5:53[SPEAKER_01]: And so, you know, we always talk about partnerships and why I'm casting it in a whole different set.
- 5:57[SPEAKER_01]: But I don't even remember what podcast it was.
- 6:00[SPEAKER_01]: But I just remember what she was saying, her message, was just so, it felt like she was speaking directly to me.
- 6:06[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, I don't care what this lady has.
- 6:09[SPEAKER_01]: Like, here's my credit card.
- 6:10[SPEAKER_01]: I want it.
- 6:11[SPEAKER_00]: Right, but it's funny that you're because I did come from a similar background as you and it wasn't until I had hired my own coach to kind of help me navigate my career next steps that I was like, I'm already kind of doing this in my teaching job and I think I would be really good at this, the learning curve actually came from the business stuff like you're talking about and like, but I think the beautiful thing and a lot I'm going to be really specific and just be speaking to teachers when I say this like,
- 6:41[SPEAKER_00]: We are taught and then teach instruction.
- 6:47[SPEAKER_00]: If you can follow instruction, you can be really successful at business.
- 6:53[SPEAKER_01]: And I have always said that teachers make the best coaches, because if you can teach, you can literally do
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: anything.
- 7:01[SPEAKER_01]: And I think part of business to is juggling a lot of things kind of all at one time, not in a stressful way, but there's a lot of things going especially if you're self-employed, right?
- 7:13[SPEAKER_01]: And as teachers, that's literally.
- 7:16[SPEAKER_01]: what we do all day is we're juggling all of these different things, managing all of these different people and not that you're doing that in coaching.
- 7:22[SPEAKER_01]: I remember when I stepped into business, I was like, oh, not that it was easy, but I was like, I can manage 25 or five year olds, like, I can do this easily.
- 7:31[SPEAKER_01]: This is like, this money.
- 7:33[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 7:34[SPEAKER_01]: And I think it's that multi-tasking part on the business side of it that makes teachers really good at that, too.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: Absolutely.
- 7:41[SPEAKER_00]: And if you're running a coaching business, you're able to do that from home without 25, 5 year olds yelling at you, which again, I mean, I love the kids that's not the reason I personally left teaching, but I will say that although I'm never I'm going to be like, Oh, business is so easy because it still requires a lot of effort.
- 8:01[SPEAKER_00]: But I would rather feel five steps behind and have to learn something new and practice it over and over than drive, you know, 45 minutes to a job that was not fulfilling to where I was unappreciated underpaid and taking advantage of on a regular basis.
- 8:19[SPEAKER_00]: for being a nice person, for being a good listener, for being someone who could always pick up everyone else's slack, then have to watch 12 million YouTube videos.
- 8:28[SPEAKER_00]: There's something random to try to learn this new thing in business.
- 8:31[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I didn't know 15 years ago what a KPI was, what the difference between profit and revenue, like blah, blah, blah, all that stuff.
- 8:39[SPEAKER_00]: But I had a brain and I think most teachers have a brain where you know without a doubt,
- 8:44[SPEAKER_00]: you are capable of learning literally anything, just like a kindergarten or learning to read and write or what I was teaching fifth grade like learning history or even Spanish like we know that this is possible.
- 8:58[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and that they, I mean, I think what makes it even more like on the coaching side of things and not necessarily the business side, but just your ability to listen to get feedback to move, you know, as we call it in coaching like dance in the situation, right, like damn meet our clients where they're at, like we're not doing that in the classroom.
- 9:20[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I can't think of like obviously I'm an advocate for more coaches in the world if people are watching this or listening to this and they're like, but everybody's a coach.
- 9:30[SPEAKER_00]: Know they're not people in my real life still don't even know what a coach is they're like, you do what I'm confused like.
- 9:37[SPEAKER_00]: Algo rhythm just makes you feel inundated with coaching stuff, but there is a real need for credentialed coaches for people who are actually professional at this and do a really good job.
- 9:48[SPEAKER_00]: And my point is this is the fastest way for women to get into entrepreneurship hands down.
- 9:53[SPEAKER_00]: But I always tell the story of like one of my good friends.
- 9:55[SPEAKER_00]: I think I just brought this up in another meeting we read.
- 9:58[SPEAKER_00]: Open to boutique and the startup costs were like a couple hundred thousand dollars.
- 10:02[SPEAKER_00]: And now she's really passionate about fashion and like, you know, connecting with what she's the cutest thing ever.
- 10:08[SPEAKER_00]: But like that is a way different thing and actually much harder to get into than something like a coaching business where your first year start out costs are under 20,000.
- 10:16[SPEAKER_00]: Maybe even under 10.
- 10:18[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh.
- 10:19[SPEAKER_00]: Yes, like you need a laptop.
- 10:21[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, exactly.
- 10:22[SPEAKER_00]: You need a laptop and an offer, basically, like your first coaching offer.
- 10:28[SPEAKER_00]: So let's talk about that actually real quick, Sandy.
- 10:30[SPEAKER_00]: What was your first coaching offer?
- 10:32[SPEAKER_00]: Like, what's the first package that you sold as a coach?
- 10:35[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, the first package that I sold as a coach, it was, I think it was a short, it was definitely a short term package, so it was like six or eight sections of just one to one coaching, they keep it simple and really when I started, I did not really know what my like who I wanted to work with or what my like quote of what niche was going to be.
- 10:52[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, got it.
- 10:53[SPEAKER_00]: So it was more or less like an eight session one on one coaching package and what kind of transformation were you selling were you doing business coaching then or okay, I wasn't even business coaching then that that just kind of came as I evolved as a coach as my clients evolve just like the people that I was speaking to evolved.
- 11:12[SPEAKER_01]: When I first first started, my whole thing was what happened just naturally is I, I was in the teaching like, world.
- 11:21[SPEAKER_01]: I still love working with teachers.
- 11:24[SPEAKER_01]: But what was happening is a lot of teachers were reaching out to me to say, Hey, Sandy, like, I see what you're doing.
- 11:29[SPEAKER_01]: I see like this looks really cool.
- 11:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, can, can you help me essentially do the same thing?
- 11:34[SPEAKER_01]: like, sure, perfect.
- 11:36[SPEAKER_01]: And that's really what we were working on, but what I found is that that transformation is a lot.
- 11:44[SPEAKER_01]: It's going to take a lot longer than just eight sessions.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 11:46[SPEAKER_01]: This transformation that's going to happen over quite a bit of a bigger amount of time.
- 11:51[SPEAKER_01]: But again, you, you live, you learn
- 11:53[SPEAKER_01]: And you adjust as you go.
- 11:55[SPEAKER_01]: So from there, my coaching package just started to increase because clients were just having to resign after the eight sessions.
- 12:02[SPEAKER_01]: And we are having to call, hopefully have that conversation.
- 12:04[SPEAKER_01]: So that's kind of really where it started.
- 12:07[SPEAKER_01]: And then from there, I realized that I didn't really a lot of the people that were coming to me weren't super sure that they wanted to make this transition yet.
- 12:17[SPEAKER_01]: Like transition out of teaching into something else.
- 12:24[SPEAKER_01]: kind of like almost like pump them up and like pull them along which isn't what like coaching is about right like we're not forcing anybody to do anything that they don't want to do.
- 12:36[SPEAKER_01]: But I just really I want to work with people that have already decided that are already like taking the steps to move in that direction.
- 12:43[SPEAKER_01]: And so then my niche kind of changed a little bit there.
- 12:46[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I think.
- 12:47[SPEAKER_00]: that happens a lot with coaches, especially ones that go through training and they start taking pro bono clients or their first clients and it kind of helps them like you said, tease out where they can add the most value.
- 13:00[SPEAKER_00]: I think that's part of kind of the growth process but the main thing that anyone who's considering coaching that's coming from an education background, I think can rest assured and knowing and have some type of built-in confidence in knowing is that
- 13:16[SPEAKER_00]: The skill set that you've had in this career is highly transferable to successful coaching.
- 13:24[SPEAKER_00]: And like case and point IGC, like I'm a traditionally trained teacher of my master's in education taught elementary school special ed all of it.
- 13:33[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm still teaching to this day, like I'm training, but I'm also coaching and often that happens in the same hour block.
- 13:40[SPEAKER_00]: So I just can't think of a business that makes
- 13:44[SPEAKER_01]: I agree with you Liv and I think there are so many times and and once you are a certified coach, there are other doors that open up because of that so I want to talk quickly about like
- 13:59[SPEAKER_00]: the more the more story-based side of things like teaching, becoming a coach, it makes perfect sense logically.
- 14:07[SPEAKER_00]: But that's not why how people are making decisions and actually that's not how most women are making decisions, most women are making decisions out of emotions.
- 14:16[SPEAKER_00]: So like what got you, what actually happened where you were kind of like, I'm done, I'm doing something else,
- 14:28[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, okay.
- 14:29[SPEAKER_01]: I think I've told this.
- 14:30[SPEAKER_01]: I think I've told you this of course.
- 14:31[SPEAKER_01]: You're going to hear it again.
- 14:32[SPEAKER_01]: And if anybody listening is heard this before you're going to hear it.
- 14:35[SPEAKER_00]: They need to hear it again if they're still listening.
- 14:36[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not taking action.
- 14:38[SPEAKER_01]: I know I taught their COVID and COVID I feel like was a time and education where things had there was an opportunity to really change things in the education system for the better.
- 14:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like that was our chance to like flip.
- 14:52[SPEAKER_01]: stuff upside down and like do things better for both students, for families, for kids, like for teachers for the system as a whole.
- 15:00[SPEAKER_01]: That didn't happen, right?
- 15:03[SPEAKER_01]: Okay.
- 15:04[SPEAKER_01]: So fast forward through that.
- 15:06[SPEAKER_01]: I think I just realized at that point, my kids were a little at that point.
- 15:11[SPEAKER_01]: They were five and three at the time.
- 15:12[SPEAKER_01]: And I just, I didn't like who I was at the end of the day.
- 15:16[SPEAKER_01]: Like the job was actually sucking the life out of me.
- 15:19[SPEAKER_01]: And at one point, I was driving, if it was a Monday morning and I was driving my kids up to my mother in malls, it was like six a.m. it's like dark outside still.
- 15:29[SPEAKER_01]: So she could take them to school.
- 15:31[SPEAKER_01]: So she could, you know, take care of them in the morning.
- 15:34[SPEAKER_01]: She could get them dressed like do all those things.
- 15:36[SPEAKER_01]: And I was just like, oh, like that was nagging at me.
- 15:39[SPEAKER_01]: And that had been nagging at me for a while at that point.
- 15:42[SPEAKER_01]: But they were sitting in the back and I said to them on the way up to my mother in malls, I said,
- 15:47[SPEAKER_01]: Oh my gosh, I cannot wait.
- 15:48[SPEAKER_01]: I already can't wait for next weekend.
- 15:51[SPEAKER_01]: And my older son was like, yeah, because you hate your job.
- 15:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I was like, yeah, you're not wrong.
- 15:58[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you're not wrong.
- 16:00[SPEAKER_01]: But that was the moment for me that I was like, I'm not doing this anymore.
- 16:05[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'm done giving so much to the system, to other people, to other people's kids.
- 16:11[SPEAKER_01]: When this is my priority, like, this is who I want to be here for.
- 16:15[SPEAKER_01]: This is who I want to be my best self for.
- 16:17[SPEAKER_01]: And I want to be present with like, I want to be the one to drop them off at school.
- 16:21[SPEAKER_01]: So it's not that I wasn't present for them, but when I was there, my brain was somewhere else.
- 16:28[SPEAKER_01]: Like I was just, I felt like my battery was like flashing like 10% you better, you better do something about it.
- 16:36[SPEAKER_01]: So that was the moment that I just decided and that was the moment that I also didn't know.
- 16:40[SPEAKER_01]: Like I didn't know what I was gonna do, but I said,
- 16:45[SPEAKER_01]: You know, I said to my husband, I said, I'll go work it.
- 16:48[SPEAKER_01]: Trader Joe's if I have to.
- 16:49[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I'll go work at Starbucks if I have to, but I'm not doing this anymore.
- 16:53[SPEAKER_01]: I can't, I just, I can't.
- 16:55[SPEAKER_01]: And I wrote.
- 16:56[SPEAKER_01]: So, I mean, everybody that I've talked to over the years has to have a moment.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah.
- 17:02[SPEAKER_01]: And you can't.
- 17:04[SPEAKER_01]: Like I can't teach that to anybody you just have to have that moment where the flip or the switch flips and you just decide, you know, just decide and then you start moving even if it's scary because one thing that I tell my clients all the time is that you can feel fear you can feel scared.
- 17:22[SPEAKER_01]: And also you can move, you can take steps forward.
- 17:26[SPEAKER_01]: Like the two, there's not, it's not either or it's and.
- 17:30[SPEAKER_01]: You get to move and be scared.
- 17:32[SPEAKER_01]: So that whole year, I mean, was, the whole year was me moving being scared.
- 17:38[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, right?
- 17:39[SPEAKER_01]: Like, but I had decided nothing was going to stop me and it didn't.
- 17:43[SPEAKER_01]: And I just went.
- 17:44[SPEAKER_00]: I feel like there's probably a lot of women listening to this who have had that moment where it's like, I'm not doing this anymore, but I'm not sure what I'm going to do.
- 17:54[SPEAKER_00]: At some, I really appreciate your story here because there was a little bit of trial and error on the way to becoming who you are today in the business you've built today.
- 18:03[SPEAKER_00]: And I'm hoping that someone listens to it and is like, oh my god, that's the thing.
- 18:06[SPEAKER_00]: Like, I knew I didn't want to do this anymore.
- 18:08[SPEAKER_00]: But now I know the thing that I do want to do and hopefully being able to fast track them into the, such a natural next step.
- 18:18[SPEAKER_00]: And so what are your days look like now?
- 18:21[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, what do my days look like?
- 18:23[SPEAKER_01]: So I don't work on Friday.
- 18:26[SPEAKER_01]: I don't where I, yeah, I've kind of been playing with my schedule lately, but yeah, I take my kids to school.
- 18:32[SPEAKER_01]: I borrowed a gym in the morning.
- 18:34[SPEAKER_01]: My days are typically done like my calls and everything is typically done by noon.
- 18:38[SPEAKER_01]: After that, I still work.
- 18:41[SPEAKER_01]: I still do stuff on the back end of my business, but I hold on my calls in the morning.
- 18:45[SPEAKER_01]: It's kind of cool that I the way, like you said, the different modalities that I'm able to support my clients.
- 18:49[SPEAKER_01]: So I'll even support clients into the evening, but on Boxer in a way that's really flexible for me, and flexible for my clients who are moms and who are running around at the soccer fields or whatever, thinking it coaching through Boxer in that way.
- 19:04[SPEAKER_01]: I end the day's feeling tired, but not exhausted or drained, and I end the day with feeling like I've had purpose.
- 19:13[SPEAKER_01]: Feeling, I've helped, you know, and the women that are in my spaces, and even all of the women that I get to interact with and work with, and psych IGC, it's just truly, truly special.
- 19:25[SPEAKER_01]: It's like these are all people that I would want to go to happy
- 19:34[SPEAKER_00]: however they want it to look and for me it's not like fancy it's not it it's like I just want to pick my kids up school but I think that's like the ultimate thing like not just being like friends or I go to happy are with your clients of course but it's also like this is your life and now it doesn't feel like you're you have to compartmentalize it so much I feel like coaching
- 19:52[SPEAKER_00]: and having a coaching business where you're really enjoying it, it doesn't feel like I hate to sound so cliche, but it doesn't feel like work.
- 20:00[SPEAKER_01]: I feel like my life, and this is really what I help my clients do, too, is create businesses that revolve around what is important to them.
- 20:09[SPEAKER_01]: and what they envision their perfect day looking like.
- 20:12[SPEAKER_01]: Like this literally is my perfect day.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 20:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like I went to the gym.
- 20:16[SPEAKER_01]: I dropped my kids off.
- 20:17[SPEAKER_01]: I had calls.
- 20:18[SPEAKER_00]: I was just going to be like, like, Sandy, listening to this being like sure.
- 20:21[SPEAKER_00]: Like, so I do because you are in the gut.
- 20:23[SPEAKER_00]: Like, you're not in the gutter.
- 20:24[SPEAKER_00]: I don't mean that.
- 20:25[SPEAKER_00]: But like, your reality,
- 20:27[SPEAKER_00]: is not in a place where you can see that another way of living is possible, and I was absolutely there before I decided kind of like whatever I'm just doing this, like I was so miserable, and I would be like, well, that might work for some people because this or that or the other thing, and I was so negative, and if I heard you say this 15 years ago or whatever, I would have been like, okay, sure, she's just saying that.
- 20:56[SPEAKER_00]: And it's like, yeah, I promise I make this promise ever enlistening like she's not just saying that it's not to say that some days don't suck, but it's like the reality and the daily living of being in a job that no longer fits you there it's like being in a relationship that you've outgrown.
- 21:14[SPEAKER_00]: it's, yes, it impacts every area of your life.
- 21:18[SPEAKER_01]: Yes, and I will say this too.
- 21:20[SPEAKER_01]: I'm not special.
- 21:21[SPEAKER_01]: Like, I, I, I'm special, but like, I'm not, I'm not, I'm not unique in the way that like, oh, she only has that because she has this, this and this.
- 21:31[SPEAKER_01]: Like, this is literally available to anyone that is willing to again, feel scared and still move and who has cultivated enough self trust to
- 21:41[SPEAKER_01]: I will always figure it out and that's just who I am as a person.
- 21:46[SPEAKER_00]: I think if anything, the past couple of years especially like since COVID and I don't want to go down this whole like rabbit hole of things that have happened, but it's like, what are you waiting for?
- 21:56[SPEAKER_00]: Oh my gosh.
- 21:57[SPEAKER_00]: What am I waiting for?
- 21:58[SPEAKER_01]: You know, that's the one thing when people ask me do you have any regrets like do you regret leaving your job do you regret you know to miss the benefits like retire like all those things that we think in our head or maybe getting but really you know.
- 22:13[SPEAKER_01]: Oh, I'm like the only thing I regret is not doing this sooner.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 22:17[SPEAKER_01]: I wish I had started this a decade ago because it would be far there along that I am now, but I'm thrilled with where I am now.
- 22:25[SPEAKER_01]: I mean, three years into my business.
- 22:26[SPEAKER_01]: And I can just see it going like up from here.
- 22:29[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, continuing to grow.
- 22:31[SPEAKER_00]: So before we wrap, what piece of advice would you give a teacher who maybe isn't even at complete burnout?
- 22:39[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, who's like, I know I meant for something more.
- 22:43[SPEAKER_00]: What is it?
- 22:44[SPEAKER_01]: I advice would be to start now, like start now.
- 22:49[SPEAKER_01]: And if you are like, I don't know where to start because that's what I get like I hear that often.
- 22:54[SPEAKER_01]: Like I don't know where to start.
- 22:56[SPEAKER_01]: Then reach out to the people who have started and pick their brains, get into spaces of people who are doing the thing or have done what you want.
- 23:05[SPEAKER_00]: Yes.
- 23:06[SPEAKER_01]: and start asking questions, start to figure it out.
- 23:09[SPEAKER_01]: Think about anything else, any other situation in your life where you were like, I don't know what to do here, and you figured it out.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah.
- 23:15[SPEAKER_01]: Like, you start to figure it out.
- 23:17[SPEAKER_01]: Just start you get yourself in the room.
- 23:19[SPEAKER_00]: You do yourself in the room with people who have what you want, not people who are going to talk you out of the thing that you want.
- 23:26[SPEAKER_01]: Yeah, and I know it can be very intimidating too.
- 23:29[SPEAKER_01]: Like I will say, like I would be intimidated to like reach on and like, oh, like, but it's almost a matter of like, what do you want more?
- 23:37[SPEAKER_01]: But, like, letting that, like telling your ego, like, no, this, this isn't in a stop us.
- 23:42[SPEAKER_01]: Like we're moving, we're going to figure this out and come on, let's go.
- 23:47[SPEAKER_01]: The time is really now, what's the call?
- 23:50[SPEAKER_01]: Like do the thing, watch the YouTube video, download the, whatever.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: make it happen.
- 23:55[SPEAKER_00]: Yeah, I love that.
- 23:56[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you so much, Sandy, for sharing your story.
- 23:59[SPEAKER_00]: And for just kind of highlighting, honestly, a lot of things that I kind of like forgot about from like the skill set of a teacher.
- 24:06[SPEAKER_00]: You know what I mean?
- 24:07[SPEAKER_00]: Just like, oh, we haven't put that into words in a while.
- 24:09[SPEAKER_00]: And so I appreciate you bringing us back to that.
- 24:13[SPEAKER_00]: And also, Sandy is one of our mentors in IGC.
- 24:18[SPEAKER_00]: So she.
- 24:19[SPEAKER_00]: Obviously has our own business completely separate and is highly successful, but she also has come back as agreed to come back and support some of our students on the business and sales and marketing side of things.
- 24:30[SPEAKER_00]: So she's wonderful asset to all of our students at IGC, we teach just as much coaching content as we do business development, which is what makes us different than any other training program.
- 24:41[SPEAKER_00]: and we hire our successful graduates to come back and show you exactly how to do things.
- 24:48[SPEAKER_00]: So if any of this sounds appealing to you or if you want to meet with Sandy and have a consultation with her and pick her business brain, we will leave all of the links to do that in the show notes.
- 24:59[SPEAKER_00]: If you're curious about becoming a coach, be sure to download the GetPaidToCoach Workshop.
- 25:04[SPEAKER_00]: And like I had asked Sandy like what was your first offer when you when you download that workshop you're also going to get a nice little work book because teachers we still making work books again still making a for you.
- 25:16[SPEAKER_00]: That's going to walk you through exactly how to design a first coaching offer so that you can just kind of start to see the tangible reality that's possible to you.
- 25:25[SPEAKER_00]: So you have Sandy you have these resources this is the exact next step you could do literally this is an exact next step you could do.
- 25:32[SPEAKER_01]: Absolutely.
- 25:33[SPEAKER_01]: It's in the show notes and like I tell all my clients I tell everybody I'm like I'm an open book.
- 25:38[SPEAKER_01]: I'm happy to have a conversation about that person.
- 25:40[SPEAKER_00]: No, literally DMs Sandy tell her all of your wildest rooms in your greatest fears and you will probably walk away You still have that kindergarten teacher energy like you're so much nicer I was a fifth grade teacher and I was not as nice as like a kindergarten teacher She is your person if you just kind of want to let it out and make something of it She is so patient.
- 25:58[SPEAKER_00]: She's so loving.
- 25:59[SPEAKER_00]: So inspirational
- 26:00[SPEAKER_00]: you're not going to walk away from any conversation with her, feeling anything other than likely a hundred times better than you felt walking into it.
- 26:08[SPEAKER_00]: That's all you have.
- 26:10[SPEAKER_00]: Thank you, Liv.
- 26:11[SPEAKER_01]: That's a huge compliment and I received that and thank you and that's really what I want for anyone in my space anytime, whether it's a consultation call, a coaching call, whatever it is, the guy bump into it, the grocery store, like, oh, it's a little like, I'm not ever.
