Latest / PTT Music Podcast / Blueprints for Growth: Habits, Stories, and Sound
Transcript
- 0:21So, um, I was looking at this study the other day, and it got me thinking about how
- 0:26we, as humans, are completely obsessed with the idea of the,
- 0:31you know, the overnight transformation.
- 0:34Like we expect to wake up one Tuesday morning, and suddenly,
- 0:37bam, we have perfect self discipline and zero bad habits.
- 0:41But it, it, it just does not work that way.
- 0:45Real personal growth is more like building a house.
- 0:49You do not just throw up walls without a blueprint.
- 0:51Oh, absolutely.
- 0:53We love the drama of a sudden shift, do we not?
- 0:56But the reality is much more, um, gradual.
- 1:02At PTT Music, we talk about this through four core scenarios,
- 1:07starting with what we call Practical Life Lessons.
- 1:11It is about laying down a structured foundation, things like time management,
- 1:16emotional intelligence, and real, quiet integrity.
- 1:21It is not flashy, but it is the scaffolding.
- 1:24In fact, our track, "Dirt Road To Truth, is the perfect representation of this.
- 1:31It is all about traveling a steady, purposeful path and building a firm,
- 1:36honest foundation when you need structure most.
- 1:39Right, right.
- 1:40And the science of that scaffolding is actually pretty fascinating.
- 1:45When we look at habit loops, you know, cue, routine, reward,
- 1:50we see that building structured self discipline actually reduces what psychologists
- 1:55call decision fatigue.
- 1:57If you do not have to constantly debate with yourself whether you are going to,
- 2:01say, practice gratitude or manage your time, you save massive amounts of cognitive
- 2:06energy.
- 2:07You are essentially automating your character.
- 2:10Yes, exactly.
- 2:11But then, you have the second scenario, which is Inspiring Stories.
- 2:17This is where we move from the cold, hard logic of habits into narrative.
- 2:21Think about when you hear a story of someone who had to adapt to change or overcome
- 2:26serious adversity.
- 2:28There is this psychological phenomenon called narrative transport.
- 2:32You are not just hearing words, you are actually, like, mentally climbing into the
- 2:38story with them.
- 2:40Wait, so narrative transport actually changes how we process the challenge
- 2:45ourselves?
- 2:46Yes, completely.
- 2:47It triggers neural coupling in the listener.
- 2:50Your brain starts mirroring the protagonist's journey.
- 2:54So when you hear about someone finding opportunity in a difficult season,
- 2:58your own neural pathways are basically running a simulation.
- 3:02It is like a mental rehearsal for resilience and confidence without having to go
- 3:07through the physical pain of it first.
- 3:09Okay, but, uh, let me push back a little bit here, Ava.
- 3:13Because while stories are great and they make us feel all warm and inspired,
- 3:18if you do not have the hard, practical skills, aren't you just,
- 3:23you know, running on temporary inspiration?
- 3:26I mean, a story might get you fired up for an hour, but it is self discipline that
- 3:30gets you out of bed at six AM when it is freezing cold.
- 3:34The practical logic has to be the driver.
- 3:37I hear you, Jordan, but I think you are underestimating the heart.
- 3:40You can have the most perfect, logically designed daily schedule in the world,
- 3:47but the moment a real world crisis hits, if you do not have an emotional anchor,
- 3:52a deeper story that tells you why you are fighting, you are going to abandon those
- 3:58practical rules.
- 3:59Logic builds the track, but emotion is the fuel that actually moves the train.
- 4:05Hmmm.
- 4:06That makes sense Ava.
- 4:08Which, honestly, brings us to the third scenario in the blueprint,
- 4:12which is the Creative Process itself.
- 4:14When we look behind the curtain of purposeful songwriting, we see this incredible
- 4:20vulnerability.
- 4:21Artists do not just present a polished, perfect final product.
- 4:26They have to start with the raw, messy, unpolished reality of their experiences.
- 4:32That is where true authenticity lives, and it teaches us that we have to accept our
- 4:37own mess before we can shape it into a positive influence.
- 4:41That is really, really true.
- 4:44It is about alignment, right?
- 4:46And that brings us to the fourth scenario, which is how music directly modulates our
- 4:51mindset.
- 4:52There is some incredible neuroscientific research showing that music evoked emotions
- 4:57do something pretty wild in the brain.
- 5:00They actually modulate activities in both cortical and subcortical systems.
- 5:05So you have the frontal cortical regions, which is your executive control,
- 5:09working together with the subcortical limbic regions, like the amygdala,
- 5:13which handles emotion.
- 5:15Wait, so the executive part of the brain and the emotional part are actually
- 5:20communicating through the music?
- 5:22Yes, exactly.
- 5:24Think of it like a bridge being built between your logical thoughts and your raw
- 5:29emotions.
- 5:30Instead of letting stress or negative thoughts run wild, listening to positive,
- 5:35message driven music actually helps your brain calm down and refocus.
- 5:40It is not just passive background noise; it is a real, active tool to help you
- 5:46reset.
- 5:47When you stream a track like "YAHUAH's The Air" by PTT Music,
- 5:51for example, you are actively immersing your mind in a positive,
- 5:56focused frequency that replaces chaos with mental clarity.
- 6:00You are literally using music to help quiet the noise in your head and find peace.
- 6:06That is incredible.
- 6:07It shows we have so much more agency over our mental state than we realize.
- 6:12So, if we want to take all of this, the science, the stories,
- 6:17the structure, and turn it into practical life skills right now,
- 6:21what are our three action steps we can take?
- 6:25Well, first, perform a soundtrack audit.
- 6:29Do not just let random noise fill your day.
- 6:32Select specific, message driven tracks to play during major transitions,
- 6:37like your morning commute, to deliberately modulate your emotional state.
- 6:41Second, practice story framing.
- 6:44When you hit a roadblock, write it down as the middle chapter of an inspiring story
- 6:49where you are the protagonist adapting to change.
- 6:52And third, focus on a single skill.
- 6:56Pick one thing, like active listening or time management, and commit to practicing
- 7:01it with absolute integrity for just seven days.
- 7:04Simple, actionable, and deeply powerful.
- 7:08It is all about taking those small, consistent steps.
- 7:12Exactly.
