- 0:00Speaker 1: Joining us on the line right now is senior meteorologist
- 0:03Speaker 1: Rebecca Patrick from the Bureau of Meteorology.
- 0:05Speaker 2: Good morning to you, Rebecca.
- 0:07Speaker 3: Good morning Katie.
- 0:09Speaker 2: Great to have you on the show. Rebecca.
- 0:11Speaker 1: I know last time we spoke, I think you said
- 0:13Speaker 1: we're in a monsoon break.
- 0:14Speaker 2: Does that continue at the moment.
- 0:17Speaker 3: Yes, that's right. We have continued with that sort of
- 0:21Speaker 3: weather across the weekend. We've had a few significant thunderstorms,
- 0:27Speaker 3: mainly south of Darwin, but did affect parts of the
- 0:31Speaker 3: rural area across the weekend, and expecting that sort of
- 0:35Speaker 3: conditions to continue today. So yeah, still got a bit
- 0:41Speaker 3: of an easterly flow across the top end with afternoon
- 0:46Speaker 3: shouts and storms expected, But for Darwin today it's looking
- 0:50Speaker 3: a little bit less likely. If anyone's been looking at
- 0:54Speaker 3: the sky, it's a lot of blue sky around today,
- 0:58Speaker 3: and if we get something, it's more likely to be
- 1:02Speaker 3: late in the day overnight perhaps.
- 1:05Speaker 2: Yeah.
- 1:05Speaker 1: It was interesting yesterday when that bit of rain came through,
- 1:08Speaker 1: or a bit of a storm I suppose came through
- 1:10Speaker 1: one side of the of the sky looked as I
- 1:13Speaker 1: was still pretty sunny, and then the rain began and
- 1:16Speaker 1: I thought, oh, hang, on a second, what's happening here?
- 1:19Speaker 3: Yeah, well, yesterday was very isolated, just really one storm
- 1:23Speaker 3: that popped up over the CBD and over the harbor
- 1:26Speaker 3: and the rest of Darwin missed out.
- 1:29Speaker 2: Yeah, it was nice. It's always nice when that bit
- 1:31Speaker 2: of rain arrives. Rebecca. What can we expect in Catherine today?
- 1:38Speaker 3: Yeah, for Catherine as well, maybe a little bit hit
- 1:42Speaker 3: and miss as well. Expecting a top of about thirty
- 1:47Speaker 3: six degrees in Catherine today, so reasonably warm, but only
- 1:51Speaker 3: a slight chance that that might get a shower of
- 1:54Speaker 3: storm today and it would probably be pretty light on
- 1:59Speaker 3: end terms that Sharon storm activity for the next few days, all.
- 2:02Speaker 1: Right, And so what is the forecast for the remainder
- 2:06Speaker 1: of the week, obviously for Darwin but also surrounds and
- 2:10Speaker 1: to Catherine.
- 2:12Speaker 3: Yes, so for Darwin, probably for the next few days
- 2:16Speaker 3: we'll see a lot of sunny skies, maybe getting a
- 2:19Speaker 3: shower of storm overnight, but yeah, just a slight chance
- 2:24Speaker 3: of that Tuesday and Wednesday, better chance on Thursday, with
- 2:28Speaker 3: a little bit of moisture coming back in for Catherine
- 2:32Speaker 3: as well, it's going to be pretty slim pickings for
- 2:36Speaker 3: the next couple of days. We're just seeing a lot
- 2:38Speaker 3: of dry air coming in across the top end, so
- 2:42Speaker 3: probably not until later in the week there might be
- 2:45Speaker 3: a better chance of shows and storms.
- 2:47Speaker 1: Well, Rebecca Patrick, it's always great to catch up with you,
- 2:50Speaker 1: and no warnings or anything we should be aware of
- 2:52Speaker 1: this morning before I let you go.
- 2:55Speaker 3: Currently no warnings, but yeah, if you are out and
- 2:58Speaker 3: about in particularly South Done, there is a risk that
- 3:02Speaker 3: we might have severe thunderstorm warnings today with some damaging
- 3:06Speaker 3: winds with those storms all right.
- 3:07Speaker 2: We'll keep a close eye on things.
- 3:09Speaker 1: Rebecca Patrick, great to speak to you, Thanks for your time.
- 3:12Speaker 3: Thanks Katie,
