- 0:49There's so many jokes out there that we could that we could use
- 0:52for this podcast edition. You know what this is?
- 0:56This is the one we've been talking about for a while.
- 1:00This is the Cincinnati Takeover edition, 2025.
- 1:03Steve Sullivan, The Chancellor. Scott Beer.
- 1:06Scott Turon. What up?
- 1:08Man, we did it. We conquered we.
- 1:12Made it. We conquered, we survived.
- 1:15That was a big thing. Surviving is always a good
- 1:17thing. Where we're going to make it
- 1:19through the 8 days. Actually, we had, we had.
- 1:20No, we had no doubts, did we? I mean, that's right.
- 1:23It really wasn't. It really wasn't even that hard.
- 1:27No, it actually wasn't. No, we just, we just do.
- 1:30We just did what we do. That's right.
- 1:32We cruised on through. We took the annual trip to
- 1:35Cincinnati and this is a two-part episode.
- 1:39This episode we were talking all things that we did in
- 1:43Cincinnati. I got my little Reds hat on
- 1:45here. Red shirt go Reds.
- 1:48You know, do you own any other clothing?
- 1:51I don't know, probably not everything is red back.
- 1:54Here. I know.
- 1:57But yeah, we we took over Ohio. In fact, the the podcast after
- 2:02this one, we'll be talking about our trip to Cleveland.
- 2:05Where else? Akron, Cleveland.
- 2:07Columbus, Yeah. Louisville.
- 2:10Louisville. Yeah, Louisville.
- 2:12Louisville, however you pronounce.
- 2:14It yeah, yeah, yeah, we did a lot and it's the two parters and
- 2:19we have a lot of we have a lot of content here a.
- 2:22Lot of stories, a lot of content.
- 2:24Yeah, we're kind of breaking up into two different tricks, shall
- 2:27we say the Cincinnati one and then Part 2 would kind of be
- 2:30Cleveland, Akron, Columbus, Louisville.
- 2:35Louisville, we're gonna, we're gonna get, we're gonna get our
- 2:38buddies, the Hill Tappers. Oh yeah.
- 2:40Tom and Brad to talk to us about the correct pronunciation one
- 2:45day for the city and where they live.
- 2:47It won't be long because they're coming on with us at some.
- 2:49Point they are. They are.
- 2:51Let's talk about our trip. You know what?
- 2:53I know we're we're we're we're also gonna be talking about beer
- 2:56in the Cincinnati tradition. Hey, brewery, we're going to be
- 3:00talking about. I have the Rhine Geist here.
- 3:03It is a hazy IPA. It is Mysticor.
- 3:08Oh, kicking that off on the Cincinnati Takeover Edition,
- 3:112025. Cheers to that.
- 3:15I have got one that I brought back from part of our trip.
- 3:18It's called Lean W Double IPA from Masthead Brewing we got
- 3:22from our friends Keith Elizabeth.
- 3:24Yeah. So one of our beers in our beer
- 3:27trade, I'm going to start with that, but I have others that
- 3:29we're going to get to. Awesome.
- 3:32Well, Masthead was certainly on the list and you'll be hearing
- 3:35more about them in the in the next podcast coming up.
- 3:40But you know, we have to, we have to talk about our trip and
- 3:44everything that we did and we'll go through a lot of different
- 3:47things. Basically it spanned about 5
- 3:50days the week before. Memorial.
- 3:52Day what a trip it was. We're going to give you some
- 3:56stats at the end and. I want to.
- 3:58I want to. Begin talking about this
- 4:00because, you know, going up we had a semblance of a plan, a
- 4:06semblance of a plan of trying to hit different breweries.
- 4:09A pretty good one. I mean, we had stuff written
- 4:11down. We had, we had stuff written,
- 4:13yeah, we actually had a Google Sheet stuff written down.
- 4:16And the kind of a plan was, all right, so we're going to be
- 4:18going up there on a Friday. We're going to be there
- 4:21Saturday, Sunday, Monday and Tuesday, and then leaving on a
- 4:25Wednesday. And I was like, you know what,
- 4:29let's try to hit like the north, the South, the east and the
- 4:33West. And we sort of accomplished that
- 4:36goal on most of them. We.
- 4:38Did. Of course we didn't.
- 4:39We didn't accomplish the goal of hitting every brewery in the
- 4:42North SE and West because we would not be alive at this
- 4:45point. We would not be doing this live
- 4:48because we wouldn't be alive if we hit.
- 4:49Every bury in. Cincinnati.
- 4:51We wouldn't look, we could like, well, you couldn't hit everyone
- 4:54you we could have hit everything on our list if we just ran in
- 4:57and did beer and ran back out again.
- 4:58We don't do that. We like to enjoy where we're at
- 5:00a lot of times too. So hence not getting to
- 5:02everything on the list. That's true.
- 5:04If we just ran into every brewery in the quadrant area
- 5:08that we went in, you could run in.
- 5:10You can get one beer and say, all right, give me your Mexican
- 5:13lager. I'm out of here and I'll grab it
- 5:16on the run. And then I'm going to, you know,
- 5:18brewery number 575, because that's how many breweries are up
- 5:22there. Not exactly that many, but there
- 5:26are. There are a lot of them, Yeah.
- 5:28Yeah, but we don't do that. We we really do.
- 5:30And you'll you'll hear this in our stories in this episode of
- 5:33the next one. But we like to go in place,
- 5:35especially when we really like the place and we haven't been
- 5:37and enjoy them. If we go to, we go to places
- 5:40we've been to as well too, that we know that we enjoy and we're
- 5:43going to spend time there too. That was that was one of the
- 5:46goals. So there are always certain
- 5:48breweries that we know when we go up that we're going to hit.
- 5:52I mean, you know, I'm drinking Rhine Geist.
- 5:54Yes, we're going to go to Rhine Geist.
- 5:55We're probably going to go to Braxton, which we did Sonder.
- 5:59There's others, you know, Listerman.
- 6:02And it's interesting because I, I know you talk to people, I
- 6:06talk to people and they'll say, did you go here?
- 6:09Did you go there, go here, go there and there's a couple of
- 6:12breweries that are always on the list that I hear about.
- 6:16One of them is Third Eye and they have two locations, one in
- 6:21Sharonville and the other one in Hamilton.
- 6:23We did not get the Third Eye right.
- 6:26This time. Right, Not this time, not this
- 6:28time we've been, but yes, right we've.
- 6:30Been the third eye before and we are going to get there again.
- 6:34That was actually on our hope to get to list and we did not get
- 6:39the third. Eye.
- 6:40The other brewery that we did not get to was St.
- 6:43Side. We went there last year briefly.
- 6:46Yeah. We had hoped to get there again.
- 6:49And that was a little higher on our list and even Third Eye
- 6:51because we only spent a small amount of time there the last
- 6:54time. It was yeah.
- 6:56And we will, we'll talk in a little bit about what what
- 6:59happened that made us bypass St. side, but that's OK.
- 7:03We were talking, I mean, I remember we were calling like
- 7:06coming back from our trip and talking about what are some of
- 7:09the ones that, you know, we want to try to get to in the future.
- 7:12And I know like 9 giants, their affirmatorium, we've not been to
- 7:17that one. We've actually we actually went
- 7:19to their brewery a few years ago and Affirmatorium we were hoping
- 7:23to get to. And so it's kind of like, OK,
- 7:26that's going to be an on the list in the future.
- 7:28We know north of town, like you know, we've we basically have
- 7:32gone as far as like N we've gone up near Saunder.
- 7:36We haven't ventured above there. And it was funny because we were
- 7:42coming back from Columbus the one day and I was showing you,
- 7:45I'm like, these are the areas that I think, you know, or some
- 7:50breweries that one of these days we're going to have to get to
- 7:52and we're going to just have to stay up here or do something.
- 7:55Spend the day. Yeah, because there's so many
- 7:58different ones. I mean Warped Wing and Common
- 8:01Beer Company and Cartridge. I mean there's so many different
- 8:04breweries, even some I'm not even mentioning.
- 8:07And you know, between like Cincinnati, Middletown, Dayton,
- 8:11Hamilton, Westchester, there are so many breweries over that way
- 8:16that eventually we will get to and we knocked off the list.
- 8:19But buddy, we knocked off a lot of breweries.
- 8:23Yeah. So that being said, for the
- 8:25places we didn't get to, there's a whole bunch we did get to.
- 8:28That's right. So whether it's new or whether
- 8:31it's old, we, we definitely got into some other breweries as
- 8:36well. And before we get into some of
- 8:40the stuff that we did, there is something that I that I just
- 8:43noticed as we were up there and if we were planning and, and we
- 8:47actually took advantage of this. And I don't know how new of a
- 8:51thing this is. We've talked about, you know,
- 8:53the brewery experience and I think this is a really cool
- 8:56thing for people. If maybe you live in the
- 8:58Cincinnati area, you've not done this, you're going to go up
- 9:00there. Is the number of breweries up
- 9:03there that now have brunch options?
- 9:06Yeah, there was no shortage of it and we were getting them like
- 9:11earlier in the week, you know, how did some places are, you
- 9:13know, don't have their hours are weird early in the week, like a
- 9:16Monday, Tuesday or a Sunday or they're not even open.
- 9:19But we were finding places. You did a lot of research on
- 9:22that before we went up there. So we knew places to go.
- 9:24But yeah, there's plenty of that stuff up that way, like for
- 9:27every day of the week because we had, we covered a whole week, so
- 9:29we had to account for every day. Like every day of the week.
- 9:32So, so now you have breweries that again, maybe this has
- 9:36happened, happened for a number of years, I'm not sure.
- 9:39But like, for example, like Sonder, they do a brunch on the
- 9:42weekends. Third Eye.
- 9:43I know Esoteric does. I think Moreline Lagerhouse has
- 9:47done it for a number of years. I went to a brunch with our good
- 9:51friends Keith and Elizabeth and Cleveland and Liz, who we hope
- 9:56to get on our podcast episode every day.
- 9:59Our bubbling, You know, we all went to a brunch at Mantri
- 10:03downtown the last time I was in town.
- 10:06And Mantri actually opened up another location over in Summit
- 10:11Park in the Blue Ash area not long ago where they serve
- 10:15breakfast and like a brunch every day of the week.
- 10:18So you're just seeing like the brewery experience with a lot of
- 10:24breweries up in that area that are just really, really
- 10:26expanding even more. Yeah, you know, we've talked
- 10:30about it with with drinks at breweries and stuff and
- 10:32something for everyone. That's maybe that's another
- 10:34option. That's another thing.
- 10:35It's another part of the experience.
- 10:37As you said, you know that that was a vacation spot for us.
- 10:40It's a vacation spot for other people, too.
- 10:42The weather is getting nice. Yeah, we saw a lot of families
- 10:45out that we had. All sorts of places went,
- 10:46whether it be a Monday morning or Sunday afternoon, everybody
- 10:50was out. So you've got to have something
- 10:52for people to come out to, and there's a lot of places doing
- 10:55that. Well, and I even said we'll get
- 10:57to our brunch at Sonder here in a couple of minutes.
- 10:59But I said. You know what?
- 11:01Let's just start at Sonder do brunch.
- 11:03It takes out the middleman. All you got to do from where we
- 11:07were, all we had to do was drive north for a bit, start out
- 11:10right. It was further out that we start
- 11:12there and they just had a nice base.
- 11:13We had a nice meal. Biggest egg sandwich I've ever
- 11:16seen in my life. Delicious.
- 11:19We'll get to that. But yes.
- 11:20But then you got your beer and then right next, like the window
- 11:23over is your food. It's pretty great.
- 11:26Yeah, definitely. Well we'll we'll get into it
- 11:29here in a minute. But I also wanted to mention
- 11:32that while we were away and it and I think we have posted a
- 11:35mention about this, George went passed away while we were up
- 11:41there in Ohio. And for people that are
- 11:43wondering, you know, who the heck is George Wet?
- 11:45Maybe you don't know if you drink beer, you probably do.
- 11:49You know it from Norm from Cheers.
- 11:52And yeah, Norm passed away. And I remember that he had an
- 11:58Ohio connection. There was the mayor of years ago
- 12:01in Hamilton, OH, which is right between Cincinnati and Dayton.
- 12:05His name was Greg Jolivet and he was the mayor of Hamilton.
- 12:08His brother-in-law was George Wendt, and he brought him in one
- 12:12time for a campaign event. I wasn't there, but a buddy of
- 12:16mine who works up there on radio got to meet him and he actually
- 12:19posted a picture the other day of it.
- 12:21So yeah, there was a there's your Ohio connection with good
- 12:24old Norm George Wendt. You know, I didn't know this
- 12:28until literally that happened, that Jason Sudeikis is his
- 12:31nephew. I didn't know that either.
- 12:34He had Lasso himself. That's his nephew.
- 12:37I learned that while we were up there.
- 12:38So yeah, kind kind of cool. And then just a little sidebar.
- 12:42We were at the Airbnb in Cleveland and you would turn the
- 12:45channel on one morning and and it was like Cheers was on and we
- 12:50just left it on for like 2 days. It was like episode 1.
- 12:54And it just kept going right out there.
- 12:55And it was a great thing to watch because I hadn't seen that
- 12:57show in forever and it was kind of timely.
- 12:59Pretty sure the first time that you and I have ever travelled
- 13:01were actually turned on the television.
- 13:03Turn the TV on, yeah. Turn TV on.
- 13:05Yeah, we just had a few an hour or two to kill before we were
- 13:10heading out that morning. So it was it was kind of a cool
- 13:12thing. But any other notes that you
- 13:14want to talk about, anything you want to talk about before we get
- 13:17into our? Case question for you, so you
- 13:20are on you are on a tour, you are currently on a West Coast
- 13:25IPA tour. So the fact that you could take
- 13:28a break from your tour and this podcast tonight, it is cool
- 13:32because you know, you got to check in.
- 13:33I know you, I know you're busy on this tour and you were part
- 13:37of this tour in Cincinnati, but now you're off somewhere else.
- 13:39I'm not quite sure where you are.
- 13:40You know you're on this tour again, so just just checking in.
- 13:45Traveling city to city. We don't know where he is right
- 13:48now. He's on the West Coast IPA.
- 13:50Tour look for Steve. He's not everywhere.
- 13:55So as a general question, how is the West Coast IPA tour going?
- 13:59The West Coast IPA tour is going pretty darn good.
- 14:02Is that right? It is.
- 14:04Yeah, and there's a couple of breweries that I got some West
- 14:08Coast Ipas that we're gonna talk about in Cincinnati.
- 14:13We're gonna get some insight into the tour.
- 14:16I think you were there. I.
- 14:18Think. You may have witnessed it.
- 14:20I didn't know what was going to come out in this episode.
- 14:22So we're going to get some, we can get some bits and pieces of
- 14:25the tour. OK, We're.
- 14:25Going to get we're going to get some insight on some of the West
- 14:28Coast Ipas that I rated. It may have rated pretty high at
- 14:33certain breweries. Yeah.
- 14:37Yep, what I what I saw there's been a progression in this West
- 14:40Coast IPA tour of of the stuff you've been drinking.
- 14:43So I'm. Telling you it's a good thing,
- 14:45it's a good. Thing so it's good alright.
- 14:47Ready. Ready to kind of get into what
- 14:48we did up there, my friend. Let's go.
- 14:51It's taken me 3 days to put in all the shit we've done.
- 14:54We've got them down. I'm ready.
- 14:56Let's go. I, I know I had to do like a
- 14:58book report cuz I had to go back into my untapped app the last
- 15:00couple days. You saw me raiding other beers
- 15:02and like, what's going on here? And I'm like, cuz I forgot.
- 15:05I mean, I get caught. I get caught up in, you know,
- 15:08the moments of drinking the beer at breweries and the
- 15:11conversation and taking pictures and having a lot of laughs and
- 15:15seeing people that sometimes you go, heck, I forgot to rate this
- 15:19particular beer. By the way, another quick note,
- 15:23after this trip that we've just took, we've been ready to talk
- 15:25about your untapped numbers have skyrocketed.
- 15:29Well, they're not on your level. Not even.
- 15:31Well, it doesn't matter. It doesn't matter.
- 15:33My point is you are getting very close my friend to 1000 unique
- 15:37check insurance and I think you're over 950 and you've
- 15:40picked up a few that you drank and that you remember to put in
- 15:42there. So you are on a short term track
- 15:47to 1000. You are going to be there very,
- 15:49very soon. If we took another trip like
- 15:51this next week, you'd be there in three days.
- 15:54I'd be there soon, yeah. You'd be there soon.
- 15:55But anyway, all eyes on Steve as he approaches his one thousandth
- 15:59unique check in. This won't be the last you hear
- 16:01about it. Well, and to to those of you
- 16:04that have a lot more, it's probably not that that
- 16:07impressive, but I'll let you talk it up my friend, as much as
- 16:10you want. Well, it is because I remember
- 16:12going to my 1000. Thousand's a big freaking number
- 16:14and you get a special badge for it.
- 16:16So I'm excited for you to get that 1000.
- 16:18Especially since I was late to the party over the years of
- 16:20actually rating beers so. You know.
- 16:23Now you're at the point. Now you're at the point where
- 16:25you go back when you after the trip and find the beers you
- 16:27forgot to rate that you drank. So I I love that.
- 16:30I mean, we're, we're recording this like four or five days
- 16:33after we got back and even last night I'm sitting there going,
- 16:36oh gosh, I forgot another one. Steve's taking him beers in my
- 16:40temp. I go this.
- 16:42Did he go back? He had to go back.
- 16:44That's my way to go back to mesh, yeah.
- 16:46That's why I go in. That's why I go in and I take
- 16:49pictures of the. Board.
- 16:50And I take pictures of my flight most of the time.
- 16:53It doesn't always happen, but most of the time that we try to
- 16:57do that or, or whatever I'm drinking, whether it's a flight
- 16:59or a pint or you know, 1/2 pour or whatever it is.
- 17:02So yeah. Well, anyway, at this point
- 17:04every beer counts because again, you're less than 50 away from
- 17:081000. So awesome, awesome.
- 17:10We'll. Get there soon.
- 17:11We're going to get there soon. All right.
- 17:14Well, the day we went out there was Friday, May the 16th, and it
- 17:19was a, it was kind of a crazy day because the theme of this
- 17:22trip, especially the theme we'll get really get into it on the
- 17:27Cleveland trip was a lot of rain.
- 17:30And that should come as no surprise because it seems like
- 17:33everybody that's either lived in Nashville or lived in Ohio or
- 17:36lived everywhere. All it's been doing for the past
- 17:38couple of weeks is rain. I mean, it's just been like rain
- 17:41non-stop. And we encountered a lot of rain
- 17:45on our way up like through Louisville and or Louisville.
- 17:48How are you pronouncing now? I'm going to become more talking
- 17:51about that city in Kentucky, the host the Kentucky Derby there.
- 17:56We. Go.
- 17:56There we go. There we go.
- 17:59We were. We were actually wondering if
- 18:01they were going to get the Reds game in on that Friday because
- 18:04there was like some really, really bad weather that was
- 18:08coming. It didn't look good.
- 18:10It did not. It did not.
- 18:12It did not look good. So we got up there and of
- 18:14course, you know, we always, most of the time I have to
- 18:17christen every trip with a kick off of Skyline Chili, probably
- 18:21for lunch, which we did. Which I'm on board with, by the
- 18:25way. I didn't know.
- 18:25For the record, I'm on board when we go up that way.
- 18:28I look forward to that first Skyline Chili stop.
- 18:31I had even mentioned like, you know, if we're if we're pressed
- 18:34for time, we can we can like skip the Skyline Chili and just
- 18:37go there another time like at the ballpark and.
- 18:39Go a bit. Yeah.
- 18:41And you were like, no, absolutely.
- 18:42Not no, no, no, no. We can't have that hanging over
- 18:45our head the whole trip. We can't.
- 18:48We can't. You know, it's funny though, I
- 18:50thought about this. I have checked off a lot of
- 18:52Skyline Chili locations in Cincinnati.
- 18:55This was a new Skyline Chili location for me in Erlanger, KY,
- 19:00which is probably a 10 or 15 minutes from downtown
- 19:03Cincinnati. So hey man.
- 19:05You know, shout out. To the folks at Skyline Chili in
- 19:08Erlanger. Great little spot, we took a
- 19:10little longer to get there than our normal Skyline Chili spot,
- 19:13but well worth it because of the spot that went afterwards where
- 19:16we went. It was well worth it.
- 19:17Yeah, definitely. We got the skyline.
- 19:21I got a text message on my phone as soon as we got the skyline
- 19:24that the Reds game have been moved up 90 minutes.
- 19:28And we? Already knew that we were going
- 19:30to be a little bit pressed for time to try to get in things.
- 19:32We wanted to get in. And then, you know, it was like,
- 19:34OK, what's our game plan now? Because the game was gonna be at
- 19:406:40. They moved it up to 510.
- 19:43Well, the reason we went to Erlanger was because a last
- 19:47minute addition that we had on our trip a couple days
- 19:50beforehand. I went on, I went, wait a
- 19:52minute, I know of this place called Fabled Brew Works.
- 19:56Yeah. Which has been open now it's a
- 20:00time we're recording and I think I recording this, I think
- 20:02they're about to celebrate two years in existence.
- 20:06Yep. And it just hasn't worked out
- 20:09timing wise to get up there because a lot of times if we've
- 20:12gone up during the week or I've gone up separately, they've not
- 20:16been open yet or maybe I've just not been able to get there.
- 20:19So they opened up early on a Friday and we got there.
- 20:24I think we may have been the first ones there.
- 20:27It was in the afternoon. It was probably, you know about
- 20:291 thirty 2:00 in the afternoon and Scott describe fable brew
- 20:34works. OK.
- 20:35We posted pictures on Instagram, we put some videos up.
- 20:39So the word fabled has a purpose.
- 20:42It's like fables and tales and stories and things.
- 20:46And the whole theme is that like if you see the pictures on our
- 20:51Instagram, like there are clouds in the sky and they have
- 20:54lightning in and it tells a story.
- 20:56And then there's like a there are a couple like cottages
- 20:59coming out from the walls that are built out.
- 21:01There's there's a, a, a hollowed out tree behind the bar with
- 21:06this big kind of opening and, and everything is kind of fairy
- 21:09tale, not fairy tale. The stories.
- 21:11It's, it's, yeah, fables, you know, like Aesop's fables, that
- 21:14kind of thing. And it is so cool.
- 21:17Everything. The theme is like all the beer
- 21:20names are around those. There are things like BA
- 21:25Alakazam, A Nightmare on Elmore St. like everything ties into
- 21:29this theme. Steve I went to the bathroom and
- 21:32I didn't get pictures because I didn't bring my phone in.
- 21:34The wallpaper was pages of books.
- 21:38OK. With plastered, that was the
- 21:40wallpaper and they're like every single thing in there had a
- 21:43story or a fable theme to it. It was amazing, was it not?
- 21:48It was unlike any brewery that I've ever been to as far as
- 21:53uniqueness and as you say, the story aspect of it.
- 21:56And the other thing I did not realize, I'd only been on their
- 21:59website like once or twice before we had gone there.
- 22:03And so I'd asked a moment when I got there.
- 22:06I said, OK, did you guys start out serving crack beer and Mead
- 22:12or was it, was it always that way?
- 22:14And he said, yeah, it was. So the thing that caught my
- 22:17attention was, and again, somebody correct me if I'm
- 22:20wrong, after you hear this podcast, I am not currently
- 22:24aware of another brewery up there that does craft beer and
- 22:28Mead together that has those options.
- 22:32I do know there's a meetery called All Fathers that's
- 22:36opening nearby in Melbourne, KY. And at the time we're recording
- 22:39this, it's about to open or maybe open, but I don't know.
- 22:43And I did, you know, I did a little bit of search.
- 22:47I just couldn't find any other places up there that you can get
- 22:52Mead at other breweries. There probably are.
- 22:55I'm just not aware of them. So that was that was, that was
- 22:58an interesting kind of hook to go in there because we, you
- 23:02know, we talked about the honey tree meatery in Nashville and
- 23:06how we've come to love that. So that was a that was an
- 23:09interesting start to our brewery adventure.
- 23:12It was and if you know you'd, and I know you know the me that
- 23:16honey tree has yeah, versus the Mead that fable has.
- 23:21Like fables were more of A and matter of fact, some had ice
- 23:23cream kind of in the recipe. So they were like more of a
- 23:27fruited sour type Meads. Yeah, versus the Mead we're used
- 23:30to in a honey tree or more of just that wine style.
- 23:34And it's not a great description, but they don't have
- 23:36that, those added adjuncts or whatever.
- 23:39But there were fruited sours at Fables, so completely different,
- 23:42you wouldn't even know there were me's, honestly, unless you
- 23:44told me that they were right. Phenomenal.
- 23:47I mean, the place was great. I mean, we had a peanut butter
- 23:50and Jelly. Now that wasn't the ME, that was
- 23:52one of the ales, but they had a peanut butter and Jelly on the
- 23:54menu. They did the Wicked Witch grape
- 23:58sour fruited, which I really loved.
- 24:01I rated that a 4.25 on the old untapped app.
- 24:06And I'll tell you, you know, I had that.
- 24:08I had a couple of their their beers as well.
- 24:10I had the Paul Bunyan American Lager and also had their red
- 24:15right hand, which is a red ale, and then the other and the other
- 24:19Mead. We had a couple.
- 24:21We tried a couple other things, but the one that was wild for me
- 24:25that I absolutely love now I like coconut and beer.
- 24:29I'd never had coconut, coconut and a Mead before.
- 24:31And this one was called the Curious Coconut.
- 24:35In fact, Tom and the Hill Tappers, they kind of followed
- 24:39us in the next day and he's like, you know, we're going to
- 24:42hit some of the breweries where you hit and they, I think
- 24:44they've been to Fable before. And he had it and I loved it.
- 24:48I mean, I rated that thing a 4.5 O out on time.
- 24:51I was like this thing it had. It was a combination of like
- 24:56coconut and banana. I mean, I absolutely loved it.
- 25:00Now I, I, I say this and I've said this before with sweet
- 25:05beers, I would not have anything like that other than on a
- 25:08flight. You couldn't.
- 25:12I mean, if you Can you imagine sitting there drinking a pint of
- 25:14that stuff, you'd be there for two hours.
- 25:16No. In fact, I have a story that's
- 25:18coming up about how it impacted me about an hour later or so.
- 25:22But anyway, continue Sir, on Yeah, on your on on what you
- 25:28what you got there at that. Baby.
- 25:29Well, so that, that, so remember we got the, I think both of us
- 25:32got that PB and J right out of the gate.
- 25:34Yeah. And he came back a little bit
- 25:37later and he gave us another pour of it.
- 25:39It was the same exact one. Yeah.
- 25:41But what he had done, he he had kind of mixed it, I guess mixed
- 25:44the keg up a little bit because the first one we had, it kind of
- 25:47settled all night. Yeah.
- 25:48And it kind of mixed it up and gave us another pour of it so we
- 25:51could try it side by side. And there definitely was a
- 25:53little bit of a difference. I think we've got a little more
- 25:54balance the second time just because it hadn't, it was a
- 25:57little more mixed, obviously. So that was cool.
- 26:00And he gave us a sample, I don't know if you remember this one
- 26:04rocking the Rainbow Rd., which is I think is a Mario Kart
- 26:09tribute with the Rainbow Rd. track, which is a fruited Burr
- 26:13liner with rainbow sherbert in it.
- 26:17And it was freaking amazing. 4.3 on on tap.
- 26:20It was freaking killer. Like you drink.
- 26:23It's everything it says it is. It's it's great stuff.
- 26:26It's really great stuff dude. I would tell anybody and I think
- 26:30Hill Tappers kind of told us, hey, you guys at some point have
- 26:33to get to Fabled. I'm going to say the same thing.
- 26:35Get to Fabled. It's amazing.
- 26:37Oh my gosh, you would absolutely love it.
- 26:40Yeah, if you don't want the, if you don't want that fruit and
- 26:42sour stuff, they've got other stuff.
- 26:43They got New England IP as I got, I had a pale ale, they got
- 26:45a red ale. You you can get various things.
- 26:48We just tried kind of everything.
- 26:50Yeah. And then I also had the Don
- 26:53Schrader, which was another Mead.
- 26:55And so I was like going mean crazy there.
- 26:58And I was like, Oh my gosh, I'm going to try this.
- 27:00So it had, I had like strawberries and oranges and
- 27:03like passion fruit in it wasn't I liked it.
- 27:07I think after some of those other ones, the whole thing kind
- 27:10of reminded me last year. Remember we went to the melted
- 27:13snow cone kind of collaboration at at Southern Grist when they
- 27:18had that and we all tried like 3 or 4 back-to-back.
- 27:21And after a while, I was like, whoa, OK.
- 27:24Yeah, they're heavy. You certainly can't see through
- 27:27them. Like, there's definitely like
- 27:29Puree and that one rainbow Sherwood.
- 27:31Like it looks like that stuff is in there, and it is.
- 27:34And they're delicious. But man, you can only take so
- 27:37much. We can only take so much, but we
- 27:39had we had such a great time. Yeah, at Fable the only thing
- 27:44was. Yeah, great service to the
- 27:46bartender. Forgive me, I forgot his name.
- 27:48Man, he was nice to us. And he was like, here try this
- 27:50and try this. And we just started talking.
- 27:51And just like you go anywhere and you start talking beer with
- 27:54someone, man, you start speaking the language and people just
- 27:56warm up to you. And it's just a great time.
- 27:58Yeah, extremely knowledgeable about the the whole scene and,
- 28:02and Cincinnati and the beer scene and the brewery scene.
- 28:04And we had a great time. And, you know, time, though, was
- 28:08not on our side because we were like, OK, we were there for
- 28:11probably an hour. Kind of unusual for us to stay
- 28:14anywhere for an hour. But you know what?
- 28:17We went to a place where we went, we were even at.
- 28:20We went to the next place. It was even less than an hour.
- 28:23Yeah, well, we had to, we, we left there.
- 28:24We had to go drop our stuff at the Airbnb.
- 28:26So we got rid of our stuff, we got all that shit done and then
- 28:29continue. Yeah.
- 28:30Yes, yeah. So we got to the Airbnb, we're
- 28:33Ubering and I mean, I'm looking at like traffic and I'm going,
- 28:37are we going to get there? Are we going to get there?
- 28:39So the original plan was they hit town, we were going to hit
- 28:42fabled. And then we thought, you know,
- 28:45we'll have plenty of time to kick off the pregame activities
- 28:50at Rhinegeist, one of our favorite.
- 28:52Breweries, yeah. Hang out as long as we want.
- 28:55Hang out on the rooftop. We'll have about two to two and
- 28:58a half, three hours. Plenty of time shit, no rush.
- 29:04Scott, what happened? What happened?
- 29:06OK, So we had to kind of plan it because it was like, all right,
- 29:10we kind of knew. We don't have a lot of time, but
- 29:11we are going to Rhinegeist and we still had to get to the
- 29:14ballpark, yes, which we knew we weren't driving to.
- 29:16So OK, so the best way, really the most efficient way to get to
- 29:18the ballpark from, well, from Rhine Geist ultimately is the
- 29:22tram. So the tram because it parked,
- 29:25it's literally parks up, goes up front.
- 29:26So but so yes, we went to Rhine Geist after that.
- 29:29We knew we would be limited on time.
- 29:32We had at least one beer. We had one beer.
- 29:34So limited. So limited that I looked at the
- 29:38clock and it was around 4:00 when we got in and the game was
- 29:42at 5:10 and we got our beer. I got the Sensei light lime,
- 29:47which I really loved, and it's about 4:25 and I said, man, I
- 29:52don't think we have time for another, especially if we're
- 29:55taking the lovely. Streetcar.
- 29:57That's right. And The thing is like there's no
- 30:00time. It's not like it comes in 412
- 30:02every day. It's every so often, right?
- 30:05It's you don't even know when the last time was.
- 30:06It's roughly, no, it's game time.
- 30:08No, the games. I moved up and I was like, oh,
- 30:10we got time for one more. And luckily I listened to you
- 30:13and we, we cashed out. We went outside and what was it?
- 30:153 minutes later we could hear the bell.
- 30:17We heard the the bell coming like, Oh yeah, this worked out
- 30:20perfect. So we caught the tram.
- 30:22Well, in the in the streetcar, I think it's the furthest point,
- 30:26that's how far up, so. For for people aren't.
- 30:29Familiar the Cincinnati streetcar.
- 30:32You'd like to call it the Trolley Trolley.
- 30:34Whatever you want, I'll call it four or five different things
- 30:37before this is. Over the free transportation
- 30:39that gets you around. Yes, Sir.
- 30:41Yeah, it takes you around basically a couple of couple of
- 30:44points in Cincinnati, like down that what they call the banks,
- 30:48you know, by the ballpark up near Over The Rhine where Rhine
- 30:51Geist is. But it's sort of a the further
- 30:54point. I really wish we had had a
- 30:57camera. We well, we had a camera.
- 30:59We're taking pictures, but we should have videotaped our, our
- 31:02experience on the trolley because there were jokes for
- 31:05days. After all that meat that I had,
- 31:08I started going in. I'm sitting there going, I think
- 31:10I might be going into a bit of a small dive in a coma here on
- 31:14the, on the trolley. It really wasn't that big of a
- 31:15deal, but it was sort of funny. And I remember sitting on the
- 31:18trolley and I'm thinking to myself, you know, this trolley,
- 31:22it, it stops like every 200 feet.
- 31:26Can we get out and push the single bit?
- 31:28Further. There's a couple of spots along
- 31:31the way you can walk faster than the trolley.
- 31:34You can walk fast on the trolley.
- 31:35And a few spots, yeah. But you know what?
- 31:37We love the trolley, it's the second year that we've they've
- 31:41taken in. So the best part about it
- 31:43though, when you get there, it does let you off a block down
- 31:46from the ballpark. So you can't you can't park as
- 31:48easily. Even the Uber we've we've Uber
- 31:50down there before and you're still walking further away
- 31:53because they can't get to the damn thing.
- 31:54So the ride their side, which actually wasn't as bad this time
- 31:59because the game had got moved up and a lot of people couldn't
- 32:01make the tram because they couldn't get there on time.
- 32:03It wasn't as busy, but it does stop every 200 feet it.
- 32:07Does. But it but it, but it lets you
- 32:09off, I mean, almost at the front door.
- 32:11So I mean, it's, it's, it's pretty hard to be any more
- 32:13efficient than that. No, it's a fun ride.
- 32:16It's a fun time down. No, we didn't take it back.
- 32:18We didn't. Take it back.
- 32:21But we made it. We made it just in time for the
- 32:25Reds game and. It was actually perfect, Steve.
- 32:28We walked in at like 5:00. We walked in the yeah, we did
- 32:30o'clock. So we were great.
- 32:32Yeah, we did. Yeah, we did.
- 32:33So, so we went to the Reds game and I'll just mention this real
- 32:37quick. So the Reds game, as you know, I
- 32:40mentioned this last year on the podcast, we do one of the
- 32:43reasons we go up there and I go up there, as we do, my family
- 32:46and I, we do a Reds outing every year at the Great American
- 32:49Ballpark. We do it for my brother Mike,
- 32:51who passed away about 11 years ago.
- 32:54And we, my cousins and I, we always get together and we
- 32:57remember him. Mike Sullivan safe at home,
- 33:00night at the ballpark and it was a great time, of course.
- 33:03And my cousin Kevin is the ringleader.
- 33:05And thanks, Kevin. We love.
- 33:07Yeah. Thanks, Kevin.
- 33:08I always loved. Kevin up with the tickets.
- 33:10Hey, he he looks up with tickets and then wants to buy his beer
- 33:13when we get in there, like, hey man, let us buy you a beer.
- 33:16What's to buy his beer? The the bad thing that night was
- 33:19there were supposed to be about 16 of my cousins that were gonna
- 33:22come, but half the ballpark was empty because, you know, they
- 33:25had to move the game up. A lot.
- 33:28A lot. Earlier and so some of my
- 33:30cousins came a little bit later in the game.
- 33:33Some of them couldn't make it. I mean, one of my cousins came
- 33:35and it was like, you know, 7th inning because they had hit,
- 33:39they lived up in Mason. They were trying to come into
- 33:41town and hit some traffic and things like that.
- 33:43It was still a, it was still good nights out of my brother.
- 33:46So that was, you know, that was a lot of fun.
- 33:49The Reds won that night. They did.
- 33:51The Reds, yeah. First of three of that series.
- 33:56I know. Beat the Cleveland Indians.
- 33:59You don't live in Cleveland, you live in Cincinnati.
- 34:02That's. That was Sam Whites, right?
- 34:07Was that Sam? Whites.
- 34:08Yeah, there you go. Exactly.
- 34:10Now we had a fun time and the cool thing was Great American
- 34:14Ballpark up there, they do have a lot of great beer on tap.
- 34:18And that was my first check in of the Great Lakes Midwest Hazy
- 34:23IPA, which is a which is fairly new beer.
- 34:27And of course we're gonna be talking about Great Lakes on our
- 34:30next podcast. We still got.
- 34:32Something. Out there about Great Lakes, a
- 34:34little petition Dr. that people need to sign, right?
- 34:37Yeah, we're gonna we're gonna make a push on that reel in the
- 34:39next episode really hard. That's right.
- 34:42Sign it for us, people sign it for us.
- 34:44But no, that was that was great. You know, I did have another
- 34:47beer that night and I don't remember what it was.
- 34:51And I. I don't either, I'm the same way
- 34:53now. Now I had another beer that
- 34:55night at the game. I just don't.
- 34:56I just don't even remember what it was and I didn't take
- 35:00pictures or. Anything like that so.
- 35:01Well, I, I can guarantee because it's the same for me.
- 35:04It wasn't a new one. So you know, you can rate it,
- 35:06but it wouldn't, it would help your numbers necessarily.
- 35:08So I'm with, I just had the one, but I had the same thing.
- 35:12I had the Hazy Midwest IPA, too, which was pretty great, Pretty
- 35:14damn great. That was the first place I had
- 35:16had. It was great.
- 35:16American Ballpark. Yeah.
- 35:18Continue on with the game. Because right after the game was
- 35:21over, because all this weather was going to move in, what
- 35:24happened immediately after the game was over?
- 35:27Because it was a Friday night, and what happens on Friday
- 35:29nights after? The oh, they have fireworks and
- 35:32I think the game ended. It was probably at about maybe
- 35:357:30 because I even said, I mean, we were talking about it's
- 35:38like the, you know, the the umpires are going to get this
- 35:41game over. The managers aren't going to go
- 35:43out and argue any calls. There's not going to be any
- 35:46pitching changes. They're getting this game over
- 35:48with. Because by the time it looked
- 35:51like it was probably 738 o'clock, you could tell there
- 35:55was a sea of clouds coming into downtown Cincinnati.
- 35:59And wind was picking up. It looked, it looked like it was
- 36:03gonna ravage hell on the weather.
- 36:06And as soon as the game ended, man, those fireworks went off.
- 36:11I mean, I'm not even sure the the they called whatever it is,
- 36:15you know, they've called strike three or whatever and the
- 36:18fireworks you're going off and it's like good night everybody.
- 36:20We're out of here, so. Not only are they going off,
- 36:22it's still broad daylight. It's broad daylight.
- 36:27This is the funniest part of the thing.
- 36:28But hey man, people stuck around to watch them.
- 36:30People did not leave until those fireworks were done.
- 36:33No, but great call because we have sat there before.
- 36:36There's nothing worse than sitting at a baseball ballpark
- 36:40and you have a rain delay that goes on for hours and hours and
- 36:44hours. So.
- 36:45Which which if they hadn't moved it up, which looked like it was
- 36:47going to happen, they would have got, they would have started the
- 36:48game on time, I think, but middle of the way weather would
- 36:52have broke it or lightning or something, right?
- 36:54And the delay and then you're stuck there.
- 36:57The game got in and we were we were all the better for it.
- 37:00That's right. They got the game in.
- 37:01So we got out of there and we set, we we went to seek refuge
- 37:06and one of our places down there at a Yard House.
- 37:10I mean, we so did everybody else.
- 37:12And we just, we went down there. We're like, you know what, let's
- 37:14not even try to bother Ubering anybody, any anywhere right now.
- 37:18Let's just go about 100 yards down the way, run in the Yard
- 37:22House, sitting there for a while and never actually did storm in
- 37:26that area. I mean, there was a lot of bad
- 37:28weather. I think that went S Cincinnati.
- 37:30We got pretty lucky that night. We kind of ended the night at
- 37:33Yard House. We did, we did.
- 37:35And I remember talking to the staff in there and I kind of
- 37:37asked her about the whole, because a lot of times we
- 37:40pregame at Yard House, we did not this time, obviously, but I
- 37:42said what, what? What does the moving up the game
- 37:44do for you guys? And then he said that kind of
- 37:46sucks because they don't have staff ready to come on at, you
- 37:51know, for a 510 game. So they got real busy ahead of
- 37:53time. They were real busy afterwards.
- 37:55So they're kind of playing catch up the whole time.
- 37:56But hey, they did a great job. We love Yard House.
- 37:58We got taken care of and they did.
- 38:00They kicked ass. They always do.
- 38:02And yeah, we always appreciate them.
- 38:04And you can't beat the location from the ballpark.
- 38:06Yes, absolutely. Well the the theme of the whole
- 38:10day after we got done was a few things, but the biggest was can
- 38:15we really only go to run guys for only 1/2 hour?
- 38:20Should we leave them in suspense and see if we ever got back?
- 38:23Did we ever go back there? We went back.
- 38:26OK, spoiler, we went back. Spoiler Can we go with keep not?
- 38:30Directly. But it's coming, yeah.
- 38:32It's we actually go back. Well, the other funny thing was
- 38:35I said of all the times I've been up there for anything,
- 38:38whether I've gone up there and you know, I'm like visiting
- 38:40family and I'm in a hurry. I don't know if there's ever a
- 38:44brewery that I've gone to even when I've been in a hurry that
- 38:46I've only lasted 1/2 hour. And of all places, it's like how
- 38:50many people can say they went to Orangie, she only went in there
- 38:53for 1/2 hour and you got to get the hell out of here.
- 38:56The way I look at them, it was a it was a bonus stop.
- 39:00We knew we're going to spend time there eventually.
- 39:02We we got a bonus stop. We snuck in one more is kind of
- 39:05how I'm looking at it. Yeah.
- 39:07And we had, if we didn't go back, I'd have been like, shit,
- 39:09we only got Rodgers once, but you know, we, we snuck another
- 39:13one in along the way. We did.
- 39:15We did. That's how I'm looking at it.
- 39:17So yeah, it was a, it was a pretty awesome day, you know, on
- 39:21that Friday. And then, you know, Saturday we
- 39:23got up and we had the the plan. I always love this plan because
- 39:28we were gonna go and we're gonna go to a Reds game on that
- 39:31Saturday night. And this was May 17th.
- 39:34And I always think like the Northern Kentucky Loop, kind of
- 39:38the South Loop, so to speak, is a really great area because
- 39:41there are so many breweries. Over.
- 39:43There you've got Braxton, you got W 6, you got Darkness,
- 39:47you've got Wooden cask Hopper House.
- 39:50I mean, I'm probably not even mentioning everything, but it is
- 39:54a bounty of options. And there was even a crab beer
- 39:59festival down the street, Braxton, that we didn't even go
- 40:04to, but we knew about when we got up there.
- 40:07Yeah, because we had other things to do.
- 40:10Yeah. And I say better things to do
- 40:13because we're going to the breweries directly, so, you
- 40:16know. Well, that's true.
- 40:17Do I love, you know, do I love Beer Fest?
- 40:20And of course I do, you know, I live for that.
- 40:22But fuck, when you go to the damn brewery directly, it's
- 40:25like, let's just go do that. It's like, yeah, yeah, yeah,
- 40:29you're beer fest. That's great.
- 40:30You know, yeah, our, our whole goal today is brewery.
- 40:35So we're going. To brewery, it's good to source,
- 40:36right? And and so you mentioned so
- 40:38Braxton, we go to Braxton first on that Saturday right after
- 40:41breakfast, which was press on Monmouth, by the way.
- 40:43We always like that place. Love it.
- 40:45Yeah. Uh huh.
- 40:46But we go to Braxton first, because you know what we love
- 40:49about Braxton, Steve? Braxton in Covington, they've
- 40:52got that rooftop. Yes they do.
- 40:55And yes, we score all day long on the Braxton rooftop.
- 41:00Anytime we can ever go there, we can.
- 41:02And the first thing I noticed when we're walking in the door,
- 41:05I said, you know what, the last, the last since the last time I
- 41:08was here and last time you were there.
- 41:11It's more spacious outside now. I mean, they've got a lot of
- 41:14comfortable chairs out there and everything else and.
- 41:17You're talking about right in the front when you walk in the.
- 41:19Front, Yeah, and I don't know. If they've if they just expanded
- 41:22that and they just started doing it probably because the place is
- 41:25always crowded. So you know, we get in there and
- 41:28we got up on the rooftop. I will say on this day it was a
- 41:32little more windy than usual. It's a good thing that I don't
- 41:35wear a toupee or anything like that because by God, my toupee
- 41:40would have blown off that day on the rooftop.
- 41:43Yeah, Yeah, it was, it was windy.
- 41:45Still a beautiful day otherwise. There were some benefits to the
- 41:49windy. We'll just leave that alone.
- 41:53But we saw. See what you did there.
- 41:55Yeah. Yeah.
- 41:56When I was making notes about this today, see, I was
- 41:58remembering we are always one of the first people at Braxton when
- 42:03we go, Every time we go, we are one of the first people in the
- 42:06we're always there, right around when they open.
- 42:09Yeah, it seems like it works out that way.
- 42:10You know, I think we're. There, I think they open about
- 42:1211. We got there probably between
- 42:1511:30 and noon. Yeah, a handful of people were
- 42:19kind of right, and we had her pick a spots up on the rooftop,
- 42:22which were great, and it filled in quite a bit right afterwards.
- 42:26It looked like there were a lot of graduation parties or
- 42:28something going on and it filled in quite a bit up there.
- 42:30Everybody had the same idea we did.
- 42:32Yeah. Again, aside from the wind, it
- 42:34was a beautiful day and a great way to start the day just up on
- 42:37a rooftop. And every time I go, and I tell
- 42:39you this, every time I go, and I'm going to do it one day, I
- 42:41want to take a nap up there. I just.
- 42:44Want to take a nap on it for for 30 or 40 minutes on the Braxton
- 42:48rooftop? Yeah, I they're, they're right
- 42:51next to there. There's some condos and I always
- 42:53think that maybe that would be like the perfect place.
- 42:55If you're working from home or something that somebody comes in
- 42:59and you're, you're working from your condo.
- 43:02You could just walk up there and sit in there, sit in one of the
- 43:05lounge chairs and just, you know, do us off.
- 43:08I know, you know, and they got music going right.
- 43:09And, you know, those days we've been up there, there's been
- 43:11nobody there. And we sit there like, it's just
- 43:13a nice and beautiful day. It's like 72.
- 43:15The music's in the background and like, it's just quiet.
- 43:18Like just give me a hammock. It'll be hammock.
- 43:20Let me just sit here. Yeah, Yeah, I know.
- 43:23So there was I I got I got a flight from this place.
- 43:27And you know what? I did get a West Coast lager on
- 43:30my flight. All right.
- 43:32OK. Now.
- 43:34Wasn't my favorite of the entire trip, but it was pretty good.
- 43:38They're classic West Coast lager, so I got that.
- 43:41The other one I want to talk about was, you know, Braxton.
- 43:45They usually do each year collab A graders ice cream.
- 43:49Last year they did that lemon meringue pie which was off the
- 43:51charts fantastic for me. Spectacular.
- 43:54Yeah. When I saw the one that they had
- 43:59on tap, I had to go. I had to ask the guy that was
- 44:02working there. And I'm like, so this would have
- 44:04been even way before I started raiding my beers.
- 44:07And I think this was their very first collab that they ever did.
- 44:10It's graters, black Raspberry, chocolate chip milk styles.
- 44:13I remember the first time I had it, I was like, Oh my gosh, I'm
- 44:18not sure about this. And I was wondering what it
- 44:24would, what would be like again after a few years, you know, did
- 44:27they do anything different, anything like that?
- 44:30Now I will have to say of the greatest collabs that I've had,
- 44:35not my most favorite one. I liked it.
- 44:38I could taste more of the, you know, the black Raspberry didn't
- 44:43taste as much of the chocolate in there.
- 44:45Little bit of the ice cream. Not sure if I saw it again I
- 44:50would necessarily go back for it, but I'm glad I got it.
- 44:53Yeah. And I think you were in that,
- 44:55that mindset of, hey, let's see if it's any different, if it's
- 44:58better, worse, do it. Do I think anything different is
- 45:01my palate change, any of that kind of stuff?
- 45:03It was kind of the same for you, right?
- 45:04It didn't nothing didn't get better, didn't get worse, or
- 45:06just kind of the same as as you'd had before.
- 45:09I think I think I liked it a little bit more than I.
- 45:11Did a little more OK. Yeah, Yeah.
- 45:13I would say it is slightly better than the first time I had
- 45:16it, but that's going back probably, gosh, probably 7 or 8
- 45:20years ago was the first time. I had, I remember us talking to
- 45:23an Uber driver about it one of the first times I was about he
- 45:26didn't have a big opinion on it either.
- 45:28But yeah, yeah, I didn't get it this time.
- 45:30I thought about getting it. I just, I just stuck with pints
- 45:33on this this particular trip. But yeah, when they said nothing
- 45:36had really changed, I was like maybe another time or something.
- 45:39So yeah, some other things they had.
- 45:41But I'll tell you, one that I really liked was their they had
- 45:43a check logger. It's called Check this out Dad.
- 45:45Yeah. Phenomenal.
- 45:47I did 2 loggers. I think I did that same West
- 45:49Coast logger you did that check and then like a Belgian blonde
- 45:52or something. I just did pints.
- 45:54But man, it's just you could drink.
- 45:56I won't say you could drink Miller Lite on that rooftop, but
- 45:59cuz I wouldn't. But to be on that rooftop just
- 46:02that's another level of the experience, right?
- 46:06Just. Depending on the company I would
- 46:08drink a Miller Lite on that roofop.
- 46:09Yeah, yeah, yeah. That'd be really good company,
- 46:13but yeah. That'd be a really good company.
- 46:15My first question to her would be, do you have a beach house?
- 46:17OK. I will no, she would have
- 46:19already had to have had the beach house for the drinking.
- 46:21Miller Yeah, exactly. I would drink a Miller Lite with
- 46:23you on the Braxton roof top. Absolutely.
- 46:27So my point is just ultimately just anything you add anything
- 46:30to that rooftop just makes it better.
- 46:32I mean, it's just, it's just a great experience, so.
- 46:34Anyway, yeah, no, I had the check this out dad with Braxton
- 46:38too. And it was, it was really good.
- 46:41So yeah, we spent a couple hours there on the old Braxton rooftop
- 46:45and they were actually by the time we got, we went on to our
- 46:48our, our second brewery of the day.
- 46:50It was probably about two 2:30 and it was starting to get
- 46:52really crowded up there. So it was, it's not surprising
- 46:55though. I mean, I think, you know, we've
- 46:58been there before later in the evening.
- 47:00It's been a while. But man, I think if you go over
- 47:02there, it probably especially during the summer months, you
- 47:06know, the warmer months, if you go over there, probably, you
- 47:09know, 7-8 o'clock on a Saturday night, man, good luck.
- 47:12I mean, it's trying to find a spot there, so.
- 47:15Yeah, yeah, it's hopping. I mean, you get food there, too,
- 47:18so it just adds to the whole thing and it draws people in,
- 47:22you know? Yeah.
- 47:23And I know you're getting ready to talk about it, but man, we we
- 47:26went to a place right after this that was also spectacular in its
- 47:30own way for multiple reasons. The first reason is because it's
- 47:33around the corner. It's around the corner, walking
- 47:36distance, literally. I mean, you can almost see it
- 47:39from the brewery. You can.
- 47:41What's it called? W 6th so.
- 47:44Covington House. Yeah, kind of, you know, W 6
- 47:47they are, they are located out of Lexington, KY.
- 47:51I had only had like 1 beer from them before.
- 47:54They had a little, a little set up down at the Newport on the
- 47:58Levee and they may still have that.
- 48:00They opened up a brewery, you know, right around the corner
- 48:03from Braxton. And the first thing that struck
- 48:06me as we were walking up to it, I said, I think this thing used
- 48:10to be a Firehouse and walked in, asked a girl in there and she
- 48:14said, yeah, you know, a long time ago.
- 48:16It'd been a number of of things since that time.
- 48:18And I said to you, I said this is kind of useless trivia, but
- 48:21it's this is the third brewery in a year that I've been to that
- 48:25used to be a Firehouse. Yep.
- 48:27So you're on a West Coast IPA and former Firehouse road trip.
- 48:33Yeah. Can we just combine all those?
- 48:34That'd be really cool. It seems we are No, you're
- 48:38right. The place is beautiful like it
- 48:41just I mean, and it looks like a Firehouse and you'd like you
- 48:44said it was a few things before that made the layout of it's
- 48:47beautiful. Even the ceiling had wood on the
- 48:49ceiling like it. We just done up right.
- 48:51And I don't know if that's been there from the previous places,
- 48:53but it's you know what, to me, and I said it a few times, where
- 48:56we're sitting there, they made an investment in that place, not
- 48:59just, hey, here's a spot we're going to put some beer in.
- 49:02They plan on being there for a while.
- 49:04Like that is a beautiful, beautiful spot.
- 49:07They have really good beer. I've had W 6 in a few places.
- 49:10I think they're out of Lexington.
- 49:11Ultimately, I've been to that spot, but man, they, they're
- 49:14part of the community there. They want to be there.
- 49:17And I think it's a great thing to be around the corner from
- 49:19Braxton, just exactly like what we did.
- 49:21We left one and we walked to the other one.
- 49:23Yeah, very, very convenient. And, and we, you know, when I
- 49:26saw a while back that they, because they've only been open
- 49:29over the past year or so, and when I saw a while back where
- 49:32the location was, I'm like, well that's perfect.
- 49:34You know, all we have to do is walk right over there after we
- 49:37go to Braxton, so. We we love those things.
- 49:40We've talked about it many times where we'd love going to a place
- 49:42and there's another place because we're going to get,
- 49:45we're going to do both places. We're not going to pick one.
- 49:46We're going to both of them. So which is exactly what that
- 49:49did. So it added that and I mean they
- 49:52got AI, don't think it's really part of them, but in the same
- 49:56building, cuz I said is there an upstairs?
- 49:57And she goes, yeah, there's an upstairs.
- 49:58That's called the second story. Yeah.
- 50:01So if you go in the front door, you go left into with six or you
- 50:05keep going up the stairs and you go into this other place and
- 50:07it's a cocktail bar. Yeah.
- 50:09And. And what she said Yeah, it's
- 50:11called second story. It's separate from us.
- 50:13When we kick him out of the brewery at whatever time they
- 50:15close, we send them upstairs to the cocktail because they're
- 50:19still open. So.
- 50:21Yeah, and. I will talk about everything
- 50:23that I had on my on the flight from there.
- 50:26It was all good. There was one that I found to be
- 50:29a little bit wacky and this one kind of stood out for me.
- 50:33I didn't have too many wacky beers on the entire trip, but
- 50:36this one, you know, basically I went in and I looked at the
- 50:39board. It was kind of sight unseen.
- 50:42I'm like, you know what? I'm just going to order.
- 50:44I I'm not going to sit there and get on my untapped app or
- 50:47anywhere else. And because I haven't had that
- 50:48much W 6. So, you know, we're we're guys
- 50:51that we just like trying different things.
- 50:53This one was called, it was a sour and it's called the feisty
- 50:57Fiego. And this thing was whacked out
- 51:02man. But The funny thing is, I've
- 51:04looked at ratings and other people have rated higher.
- 51:07Wasn't exactly my thing. I started, I started drinking it
- 51:10and you expect it to be a sour, but it does say feisty.
- 51:15And then all of a sudden I went, what am I tasting?
- 51:17I'm tasting pepper. What the heck?
- 51:22And I looked at it. I looked.
- 51:23At you and I said. They had pepper in a sour is.
- 51:25It this thing is spicy, it's got pepper in it, it's fruity.
- 51:28And I'm like that. Feisty Fuego.
- 51:30OK, the name of that makes sense.
- 51:34Not for me. I doubt I would ever have it
- 51:36again. Everything else, you know, I had
- 51:39a coach, I had a Porter, I had a cider there and they were all
- 51:44good. But the Feisty Fuego, man, that
- 51:46thing was a wacky beer. I'm sure there are people that
- 51:50love that thing. I was like, no, I don't know if
- 51:52that's for me, but that's OK. We still enjoy the experience of
- 51:56W 6. They got the name right, right.
- 51:58The feisty part they did that kept coming up in our
- 52:01conversation as we were talking about the beer as you were
- 52:03drinking it. Yeah.
- 52:06They gave him sampling. I go, yeah, that's that's pretty
- 52:08right. It's pretty right.
- 52:10Yeah, Yeah. Thank God you didn't get a pint
- 52:13of it. We'd still be.
- 52:14There. Oh my gosh, yeah.
- 52:15I was like. What the heck is going on here?
- 52:17Yeah, I'm almost done. No, I think the other thing is
- 52:20if I had, I had I opted for the pint, I probably would have
- 52:24opted to do a little more research.
- 52:27But on a flight, you know, sometimes you're like, OK, and I
- 52:30probably could have gone up and said, you can just give me a
- 52:32little taster of this. But, you know, we, we like, you
- 52:36know, sometimes we like doing, you know, flights on certain
- 52:39things as well. So it was all right.
- 52:41It all worked out really well. You can get through 4 oz it.
- 52:45Really. Wasn't that?
- 52:47You can get through 4 oz. I'll tell you what I did like
- 52:49about pretty much every place we've been, but the the
- 52:53different styles. I mean, IPA is loggers what you
- 52:55just talked about. I had a stout over there.
- 52:57I mean, they had all sorts of styles on the board.
- 53:00So they had some crazy stuff. I had a sour, I think, and
- 53:04Covington House logger had a lot of loggers on this trip, but
- 53:06just, you know, kind of something for every kind of
- 53:09beer, beer lover, different styles for different people.
- 53:11So even somebody that you know wants a feisty beer if.
- 53:15Somebody wants a feisty Fuego, Go there.
- 53:18Go get. It that's the place to go.
- 53:20That's the place to go. But we really enjoyed.
- 53:21They had a nice, you know, I don't just they have like
- 53:23tables. So we had a nice little seating
- 53:24area. We sat in right there by the
- 53:25front door. Yeah.
- 53:27Yeah, yeah, very enjoyable. Yeah.
- 53:29So we were very. Cool place.
- 53:30So we were over there for a little bit and I knew that we,
- 53:35there was a, there was a decent chance because as we said the
- 53:38beginning of this podcast, we're generally not guys unless we're,
- 53:41you know, in a hurry that are staying at a brewery for just
- 53:44like an hour. And I knew we probably had time,
- 53:48you know, pre gaming for the Reds game to hit 3 breweries,
- 53:52maybe 4. I want to say wooden cask.
- 53:56We love your wooden cast. We've been to wooden cast
- 53:58before. We will be back.
- 54:00We didn't make it the wooden cast in Newport this particular
- 54:04time. It was a game time decision.
- 54:07It was a game time decision. But the other thing was the next
- 54:11stop was Darkness over? Yes, over in Bellevue.
- 54:15Because I, I was almost embarrassed.
- 54:17The last time I came, I was in town.
- 54:19I've been up in town. I went to Darkness for the first
- 54:21time and I had heard so many people tell me, why have you not
- 54:25been to Darkness Brewery? And of course, it's right over
- 54:27my party store. So it's like, duh, you know, why
- 54:30didn't you go there? Why have you guys been there?
- 54:33And so that was a definite on the list that we were going to
- 54:36go to Darkness. That was my second time.
- 54:40That was your first time, and it was at practice that we met up
- 54:44with a lot of great people in the beer community.
- 54:47Sure did. So Zach, who we've been
- 54:50communicating with from 513 Craft Brew Sensei met up with us
- 54:55there because we he, we've been trying to coordinate where we're
- 54:56going to meet before the game because they were going to the
- 54:58game too. Met us up.
- 54:59We did a little beer exchange there.
- 55:01He had some friends that came in, met up and just had a cool
- 55:03time, man. We just hung out and tried some
- 55:06stuff again, my first time. So I'm just kind of looking
- 55:08around like, oh, this place is amazing.
- 55:10Oh, look at that and look at this and look at that, you know,
- 55:12taking all these kinds of pictures.
- 55:13But it was a cool vibe, man. It was really cool and a lot
- 55:16going on because there are a lot of people coming in that we're
- 55:18meeting and, you know, sharing beers with and things.
- 55:21But, and it went by pretty quickly, but it was a really
- 55:24cool vibe and I, I really like the place.
- 55:27It's another place I want to go back to and spend a little more
- 55:29time in. Oh, I I.
- 55:30Agree. I agree and shout out to Zach
- 55:32and Cincinnati and all the gang, the beer community that we we
- 55:36got to meet up with and I was really excited because of my
- 55:39friend Dave Brinker. That's right, Dave.
- 55:42Yeah, that's right, Dave. Dave known him forever.
- 55:44He he met us there because he was going to the Reds game.
- 55:46And I'm almost embarrassed to even tell people how long I've,
- 55:49how many years I've known that guy almost virtually all my
- 55:52life. We went through kindergarten
- 55:54again. I mean, it goes back that many
- 55:56years. So it was.
- 55:57Cool, he's a great dude too. I've hung out with him twice.
- 55:59He's just a great dude. Yeah, and he came and I laughed
- 56:02because he had a Cleveland Indians jersey on.
- 56:04But I also remember that it was a Ricky Vaughn jersey from Major
- 56:10League. And he's a big as I am too, and
- 56:12you are a Major League fan of that movie.
- 56:16And so it was kind of funny. It's like, Dave, you're going to
- 56:18a Reds game. Why do you have?
- 56:21Okay, that makes sense. Ricky Vaughn, Cleveland.
- 56:24Yeah. So, yeah, it was, it was, it was
- 56:26great. So we we, you know, we had a lot
- 56:29of great beer there at Darkness and again, talk about the
- 56:33ambience of Darkness your first time there.
- 56:36Well, man, the artwork, I say I worked this, this, this stuff on
- 56:39the walls was cool. Like a lot of Star Wars theme
- 56:42stuff. I mean, one of the beers was
- 56:44called Raygun. Another one's called was Han
- 56:47Rollo which. I had which I rated a brown ale
- 56:52and I rated that pretty high, so that was really good.
- 56:55Also had there explore mix Berry, Amber sour and Man on the
- 57:00Moo which was they were all really good.
- 57:02So yeah. Everything, just the decor is
- 57:04cool. Everything kind of theme.
- 57:05I don't if it's All Star Wars. There's a lot of Star Wars stuff
- 57:08in the darkness thing, just a cool vibe, and I think everybody
- 57:11that goes in there knows it's cool.
- 57:13You know, if you're here, you're cool kind of thing.
- 57:16Well, it's a, it's a small, it's got a small family owned brewery
- 57:20there and it's in an older building.
- 57:22But I mean, it's, it's, they got, they usually have about 8
- 57:26beers on top there. They have a food truck out out
- 57:29in in the front. And they also have another area
- 57:33where I think certain times during the year and maybe the
- 57:36maybe that night. Where you can go?
- 57:38In they got bands coming in from music and everything.
- 57:41So I would say all day every day.
- 57:44If you've not been to Darkness, go to Darkness over in Bellevue,
- 57:47KY. That place is legit.
- 57:49It's legit. And the beer was not just the
- 57:52names of the beer, the beer was really damn good too.
- 57:54So I got to sample several of them.
- 57:57So, yeah, cool spot. It's a shame we hadn't done
- 58:00before, but we know that is a that's a priority kind of every
- 58:04time from here on out. Or we do.
- 58:06Yeah. Yeah, it's fantastic.
- 58:08So glad. Glad we finally got there.
- 58:10Glad I finally got there. Well, the first time I went
- 58:14there, you know, that was another one where I was sort of
- 58:17in a hurry and was in there for like 4045 minutes getting a
- 58:20quick beer and and getting out. So it was.
- 58:23It was just cool to spend more time in there this particular
- 58:26time taking in more of their beer.
- 58:29Another one I recommend and checked off the list.
- 58:32You know, I feel good about going to this place when you get
- 58:34to a lot of places that you wanna go to that was high on the
- 58:37list and say OK, we did that one too.
- 58:38Awesome. Yeah, we took darkness off the
- 58:41list. So we pregame there and we went
- 58:45to the Reds game and saw another Reds victory that night.
- 58:49That was fantastic. I had, you know, I hadn't had
- 58:52this one for a while and I know even though they're no longer in
- 58:55business, their beer is still being distributed.
- 58:58I had the gamble banger from Tap Brewing.
- 59:01Oh yeah, OK. I actually had a new one over
- 59:05there too. It was Hyperteric IPA from
- 59:09break. I somehow I found another one
- 59:11over there I hadn't had at the Reds game.
- 59:13All right. Operateric over there.
- 59:15So that, that was great. And I I know I had another one
- 59:17after that. I don't know what it was.
- 59:20It wasn't new so I just left it. That's OK, that's OK, and I may
- 59:24have had some cheese conies from Skyline Chili at the game by
- 59:27the. Way.
- 59:28You know what's funny? It's because I was thinking the
- 59:30other day I thought Steve, only we only stopped at Skyline once,
- 59:33but you got Skyline more than once.
- 59:34So you found a way. I did.
- 59:37You found a way I. Always do.
- 59:40I always do. Where there's a where there's a
- 59:42will there's a way, and. Skyline Chili.
- 59:44Is everywhere up there, you know, on every street corner.
- 59:47If you call somebody and walk out in front of your house and
- 59:50said can you get me some skyline, They would they would
- 59:52probably come up. And Oh yeah, here's the trivia
- 59:55right now. And I'm not going to give
- 59:57regional details, but I remember sitting at the game and you were
- 59:59kind of talking a lot of shit about the the team you were
- 1:00:03beating so. I have, I have video, not put it
- 1:00:08up or anything, but you were talking a lot of shit.
- 1:00:09You were feeling pretty good in that game.
- 1:00:11Well, you know, I mean it. We we were our friends in
- 1:00:15Cleveland who we met up with and we'll talk about on the next
- 1:00:19trip, you know, when they are Cleveland Guardian.
- 1:00:23Fans really still the Indians. Keys But yeah, so there was some
- 1:00:29bragging rights on the line. We won the Ohio Cup and they,
- 1:00:35the Reds, actually swept the Guardian slash Indians that
- 1:00:39weekend. So go Reds.
- 1:00:41Sure did good showing. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:00:45So it was, it was, it was a it was a good time all around.
- 1:00:49And then we had one last trek of the night.
- 1:00:54I'm gonna tell you, you begin, and then I'll.
- 1:00:57I can't take it. I'm not sure I can take this.
- 1:00:59Story. OK, so so we leave the Reds
- 1:01:02game, right? And we're going to go to March
- 1:01:041st, the downtown, March 1st, right?
- 1:01:06We were going to meet the hill tappers.
- 1:01:08Yeah, we're just going to leave there and we're going to walk
- 1:01:10over to March 1st, right? Because it's just right there.
- 1:01:13It's right. And then, yeah.
- 1:01:14So this is my recollection. So I leave and I'm waiting
- 1:01:18outside by the bike racks for you.
- 1:01:20You and Dave go ahead. I'm waiting.
- 1:01:23We get separated somewhere is a lot of people coming out.
- 1:01:26And I'm waiting outside for Steve at the at the bike rack.
- 1:01:30And I don't see Steve or Dave or anything.
- 1:01:32So I go. I just walk over to March 1st
- 1:01:34because Steve knows where he's going.
- 1:01:36It's just right here. He'll find he's probably there
- 1:01:38already. So I get in there.
- 1:01:45I'm looking around. No Steve, no Steve at all.
- 1:01:48So I'm like, I'll be here anytime, you know, whatever.
- 1:01:51So I, you know, I can only, I can only like kind of
- 1:01:56rebroadcast what you told me what happened after that.
- 1:01:59But tell us about your journey from Great American Ballpark to
- 1:02:02March 1st downtown. To I ended up there.
- 1:02:06I ended up there on March 1st and had some beers with you
- 1:02:08guys. Was it planes, trains and
- 1:02:10automobiles to get? Well, my story goes like this.
- 1:02:15Apparently you didn't hear me after the Reds game because it
- 1:02:19we're leaving and my buddy David, I said, you know, I got
- 1:02:22to go use the restroom. So like, we're going to the
- 1:02:24bathroom, hang out, wait for us. And I guess you didn't hear us.
- 1:02:28So when I walked out, I'm looking around.
- 1:02:30We're like, where's Scott at? And I texted you and you're
- 1:02:33like, you know, walking to March 1st.
- 1:02:35I'm like, all right, so, so, so the ballpark is about a half
- 1:02:39mile or so at Fountain Square. Well, I'm really telling myself
- 1:02:43I'm falling on the sword here. Come.
- 1:02:45On in the. Middle of downtown Cincinnati is
- 1:02:48our freaking landmark, for God's sakes, and I usually can get
- 1:02:52around anywhere. So Dave's wife was picking him
- 1:02:55up, picking him up the next block.
- 1:02:57So I walk on up and I got my This is where common sense did
- 1:03:03not take over in my life. This is a night that I had no
- 1:03:07common sense whatsoever. I had my map app up on my phone
- 1:03:12like you know where you're walking.
- 1:03:13This is where it is or whatever. I knew it was on Fountain
- 1:03:17Square, but I didn't know exactly where Fountain Square.
- 1:03:20And so, you know, I'm walking and I'm not paying that much
- 1:03:24attention to where where I'm going as far as I crossed the
- 1:03:28street. And my map app has me walking, I
- 1:03:31think it's on 4th St. or something.
- 1:03:32And I walk around the whole damn block and I'm like, what's going
- 1:03:35on here? Where is it?
- 1:03:37Where is it? It used to be right here.
- 1:03:41It should be here. I had not been there before.
- 1:03:43Well, I actually had been there when it was rock bottom.
- 1:03:48So, but that was a long time ago, a long time ago.
- 1:03:51And so I don't know. So I'm walking and then all of a
- 1:03:54sudden I'm thinking I'll get there.
- 1:03:56This is fine. And my I look down at my phone
- 1:03:59again. I'm looking more at my phone.
- 1:04:01I'm depending on more on my phone than common sense.
- 1:04:04I will. I will say this, there are a lot
- 1:04:06of buildings around, so the signals kind of get effed up.
- 1:04:10You know, I'll get to that in a moment.
- 1:04:13I think a lot of times if you're using like a Waze app and it
- 1:04:16tells you go down a certain St. and you realize that street is a
- 1:04:20dead end, why is Waze telling me to go that way?
- 1:04:22So you're not going to go that way.
- 1:04:24I should have done that, but no, instead I'm.
- 1:04:27I keep looking. At it and all of a sudden have
- 1:04:30me walking on the other side and I'm looking and I'm looking and
- 1:04:35I'm looking and by this time I'm almost two blocks over and I
- 1:04:39just, I got I got so mad, so irritated.
- 1:04:43I just said the heck with this, I'm just calling an Uber.
- 1:04:48So I got around to the Uber and got up there and I finally found
- 1:04:52it. So, OK, so you took ultimately
- 1:04:55you took an Uber from Great American Ballpark to March 1st?
- 1:05:00Yeah, basically downtown, OK, which is what, less than a half
- 1:05:03a mile? Oh yeah.
- 1:05:06But you got there, which was important.
- 1:05:09That was important. I couldn't remember if the hill
- 1:05:12tappers got there before you or you got there before.
- 1:05:14You got there before. I walked in there right before
- 1:05:16them. You did get there.
- 1:05:20Yeah, I walked in there, right? Before them.
- 1:05:22So it was. It was a lot of fun.
- 1:05:23It's a good story. It's it's content.
- 1:05:26It's a good story. Hey, so that ended our night,
- 1:05:29but before we start into the next day, we have a special
- 1:05:34guest. Me, I've been here the whole
- 1:05:36time. We have a special guest guest
- 1:05:38who has joined. Who was gonna join?
- 1:05:42And now she's here. Can you introduce yourself?
- 1:05:44Special guest. Well, just like on this road
- 1:05:48trip up to Cincinnati, I like to pop in and out around my work
- 1:05:52schedule. So popping on into this podcast.
- 1:05:56Hi, I'm Liz from everyday I'm bubbling and happy to be here
- 1:05:59with y'all. Our Cincinnati correspondent.
- 1:06:02She's a Papa Award winner. She.
- 1:06:06Is. Very proud, Very proud Papa
- 1:06:09Award. Winner.
- 1:06:10Cincinnati Correspondent. Cincinnati Correspondent.
- 1:06:14Well Liz, welcome. When I saw the EE pop up I was
- 1:06:17like yay. Made it.
- 1:06:20Made it. We're just about getting to the
- 1:06:22part where you actually show up on this trip.
- 1:06:25Yeah, your timing is actually a timing.
- 1:06:27Is everything. I'm telling you you're you're
- 1:06:31talking. Exactly.
- 1:06:32Impeccable because we were getting actually we just
- 1:06:35finished off talking about our Friday and Saturday in
- 1:06:38Cincinnati and we're we're about to get into Sunday and that's
- 1:06:42when we met up with you. Yeah.
- 1:06:45Yes. So we'll, we'll, we'll get into
- 1:06:48that. So we curiously Friday, we
- 1:06:51curiously Saturday we hit some new breweries and then we hit
- 1:06:54through Sunday. But hang.
- 1:06:56On, but I mentioned I didn't mention a Hill Tappers.
- 1:06:58So Tom and Brad from the Hill Tappers from Louisville rode
- 1:07:03into town. They were doing some stuff
- 1:07:04earlier after we got to the ball game.
- 1:07:05They met us at March 1st and then kind of began the
- 1:07:08shenanigans for the next few days with those guys as well.
- 1:07:12It did, yeah. And and Liz was part of the
- 1:07:15shenanigans of. Course, certainly.
- 1:07:18Off and on because we know that she is the hardest working woman
- 1:07:22in show business in Cincinnati, but she still managed to hang
- 1:07:28out with us for a couple of days and she gave it more of an
- 1:07:32effort than the Reds give sometimes.
- 1:07:35But. More than the Guardians gave.
- 1:07:38Or the Guardians game, that right?
- 1:07:40That's right. But you know, we had mentioned
- 1:07:42at the beginning of this podcast that one of the places that does
- 1:07:47brunch is Saunder Brewing. And so we decided on that
- 1:07:52Sunday, let's go to Saunder. Actually, your original idea,
- 1:07:56Scott, was let's go to Bob Evans.
- 1:07:59And it was Tom, the Hill Tappers that text and said, do we really
- 1:08:03want to go to Bob Evans on a Sunday?
- 1:08:05And I'm like, yeah, why the heck do we want to go to Bob Evans on
- 1:08:08a Sunday when we go to brunch? Take out the middleman.
- 1:08:12Thank you, Liz. Take out the middleman and just
- 1:08:15hit Saunder right off the bat. So that's what.
- 1:08:18We did well, I just knew you didn't need breakfast, so I just
- 1:08:22threw out Bob. Evans.
- 1:08:25No Sonder was great for breakfast.
- 1:08:27Sonder was great for breakfast. Liz, have you ever been to
- 1:08:29Sonder for breakfast? No, I've eaten lunch there, had
- 1:08:34a had a good few things off their lunch menu, but I cannot
- 1:08:39say I've had breakfast there or brunch.
- 1:08:42And I think all four of us got the same thing, Steve.
- 1:08:45I think we all got that egg sandwich was about a foot and a
- 1:08:49half tall I. Think it was incredible?
- 1:08:52It was incredible. It was really good.
- 1:08:54It was really. Good you guys drink to pair with
- 1:08:57this? Oh gosh, let's see, Steve,
- 1:08:59what'd you start with? What you had that day.
- 1:09:02You know, I had a couple flights that day.
- 1:09:04So I mean, I had like a flight of like the rally cab.
- 1:09:07Talk to me Spruce, which is their one of their Ipas, the the
- 1:09:13hornet's nest, the Honey beer. I had their box, the William
- 1:09:16goat. I mean, I had so many different
- 1:09:18things. I'll tell you the other one I
- 1:09:20had on the flight returning the second time I've ever had this.
- 1:09:24I probably won't have it again, but you know, have to go back in
- 1:09:27time. The root beer beer.
- 1:09:31So I got on a flight and I had that a couple of years ago.
- 1:09:34It's Saunder. And I think that's sort of a a
- 1:09:36bit of a homage that they do little collab to Kings Island,
- 1:09:40if I'm not mistaken. And it's actual beer, not root
- 1:09:43beer. It tastes like root beer, but
- 1:09:46it's beer in it. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:09:50It's very, yeah. Skip that one all together.
- 1:09:58But I have a weird. Ketamine nostalgia from
- 1:10:00childhood. You got to have the root beer
- 1:10:02beer. I know.
- 1:10:03I mean, I like, I used to like root beer.
- 1:10:05It's just one of those things. Now when you grow older, it's
- 1:10:06like, I just can't get through a root beer anymore.
- 1:10:09But it tastes exactly what it is.
- 1:10:11I mean, it tastes like a root beer.
- 1:10:12Steve, would you add ice cream and make a root beer beer float?
- 1:10:20Maybe I should try that. I may give you an idea.
- 1:10:22And then you're going to want to try that with me, right?
- 1:10:24I see where you're going there. I mean, when in Sonder, why not?
- 1:10:30Liz, you know what for you, with you.
- 1:10:33I would try that sometime. How's that?
- 1:10:35In a box with a box. And pineapple on pizza, of
- 1:10:40course. We didn't get that.
- 1:10:42We didn't even have any pizza our whole trip up there.
- 1:10:45I don't know why, but that didn't happen.
- 1:10:47Then I have to deliver the larosas the next time.
- 1:10:50I know it, I know it. But, but you know, Scott, we, we
- 1:10:54also, when we got there, we, we always talk about the brewery
- 1:10:57experience. There was a lot of brewery
- 1:10:59experience going on at Sonder that day.
- 1:11:03There was like a big parade going on that we were all
- 1:11:05fascinated watching. Like like the family walk they
- 1:11:09were having or something? Yes.
- 1:11:12The family walk and everybody was dressed up in these blow up
- 1:11:15animal costume outfits. Yes, from from flamingos to
- 1:11:20Pokémon to I don't know what the other things were, but there
- 1:11:25were it was a lot of it was favorite, very family friendly
- 1:11:28and they walked around the building a few times and I think
- 1:11:30when the when the kids finished they got a free beer or
- 1:11:33something when they walked around 4 times.
- 1:11:34When the kids finished. When the kids finished?
- 1:11:36Really. The children.
- 1:11:38Yeah. Yeah, the under 21 or.
- 1:11:39So it was a reward if you walked around 4 times you got a beer
- 1:11:42out of it was a root beer. It was a root beer.
- 1:11:47A real root beer, not a root beer beer.
- 1:11:50It was a root beer. Beer Were parents recruiting
- 1:11:53their kids to walk around the building for them so they could
- 1:11:56be like here dad, I walked around 4 times.
- 1:11:58Here's your beer. I don't know.
- 1:12:00I saw the kids drinking them. I don't know.
- 1:12:01I don't know, man. Not my kids.
- 1:12:04I don't care. Hey, don't get caught or in
- 1:12:06trouble, I don't think. That no.
- 1:12:08No. There was no stopping.
- 1:12:10There was a family thing going around where they did walk
- 1:12:12around thing and, and then the families all kind of hung out.
- 1:12:16The family, the the adults drank beer afterwards.
- 1:12:18Exactly. But it was cool.
- 1:12:19Everybody was dressed up in their outfits and costumes and
- 1:12:22things. It was pretty cool to watch.
- 1:12:24Well, saw there was always a fun time.
- 1:12:27I mean, it's one of my favorite breweries up there and we always
- 1:12:30try to get up there when we when we hit town.
- 1:12:33Well, yeah, here you would talk about weird.
- 1:12:34So here's 1 I had up there. And Jeff's Jams is a is a series
- 1:12:39that they do and I've had others versions of it.
- 1:12:41But volume 9 was Aipa Spicy Berry Cobbler with cinnamon and
- 1:12:47habanero. And it was pretty good to start
- 1:12:50with. And I wasn't quite sure how it
- 1:12:52ended. I rated it early on thankfully,
- 1:12:56but it it was a little weird. Yeah.
- 1:12:58It's a little. Weird, but you know what beer
- 1:13:00they still have on top up there that you did not like last year
- 1:13:03was? It spicy.
- 1:13:04It was, it had all the things. It was a little spicy.
- 1:13:08Habanerio always get you back here.
- 1:13:10The cinnamon was weird, the cobbler was weird, but it was an
- 1:13:12IPA at the same time, so I had the hops in there too.
- 1:13:16It was it was weird. It kept getting weirder as I
- 1:13:19drank it. But anyway, I got through it.
- 1:13:22So what you're saying, Steve? Well, no, I was.
- 1:13:25I was saying that they had the the see me rolling.
- 1:13:27That's still on that the the cinnamon beer that they have up
- 1:13:31there. It's still on on tap that you
- 1:13:33had last year that I liked and you did not like.
- 1:13:36I didn't get it this time. It sounds like it might be
- 1:13:39rolling, but Scott's still hating.
- 1:13:43Yeah, it's probably the same. It's probably the same keg it
- 1:13:45was last year when I was there, but they haven't changed it yet.
- 1:13:49Anyway, I digress. Next.
- 1:13:52Wait, I was gonna tell you guys, I may not have been at that
- 1:13:55brewery with you, but I did try a Saunderbeer down at Taste of
- 1:13:58Cincinnati last weekend. Did you guys get to try Divot?
- 1:14:03I've had it before, yeah. It was like quintessential
- 1:14:08summer kickoff beer. You know, it's a lemonade and
- 1:14:12iced tea ale, so it has a cool little logo of Ohio and a golf
- 1:14:17course and a golf flag on there with a little lemon wedge.
- 1:14:20So seemed like a quintessential beer to kick off summer at the
- 1:14:24Memorial Day weekend for me. So I know that was way after
- 1:14:27seeing you guys, but I felt like I had to play catch up and go
- 1:14:30visit Saunder down at the Taste. It all ties in.
- 1:14:34One of their signature beers that they that they bring out
- 1:14:37every year. I'm pretty sure that I that I've
- 1:14:39seen David for a couple of years now.
- 1:14:42Well, it it will definitely be on patios everywhere this
- 1:14:46summer. It's a it's a good, refreshing
- 1:14:49light beer. Yeah, you can't go wrong.
- 1:14:53Giant fans of Saunders, anything they do except for that see me
- 1:14:56rolling, I'm a fan of. Well, that's OK, I can.
- 1:15:01See me rolling away? I've had my encounter now with
- 1:15:05the root beer float Ale beer. I've had it twice on a flight.
- 1:15:10Nobody. Can I get it a third time with a
- 1:15:12scoop of ice cream? Ah, yes, that's right at the
- 1:15:15Cincinnati Zoo sometime, Liz. That's where we're going.
- 1:15:17That's where we're gonna go get it.
- 1:15:19Because they have a beer stand at the Cincinnati Zoo.
- 1:15:22So yeah, we'll report back. You selling me on this?
- 1:15:25We're gonna. I know we're lions and tigers
- 1:15:27and beer. Oh my.
- 1:15:29Let's see what I did there. That's actually pretty good.
- 1:15:33That's actually pretty good. Thank you.
- 1:15:35I just came off the top of my head.
- 1:15:37I guess I got jokes for days, jokes for days.
- 1:15:39But no, it was it was it was awesome to kick off Sonder.
- 1:15:43And then, you know, after that, Scott, we hit another new
- 1:15:47brewery. This had been on the list for a
- 1:15:49while. Yeah.
- 1:15:51This was a. Highly recommended.
- 1:15:53Highly. Recommended was in Loveland.
- 1:15:57It was narrow path, and I have to say I was.
- 1:16:01I was really surprised because for some reason in my head I
- 1:16:05knew it was around bike trails, but I thought, OK, narrow path.
- 1:16:09It's going to be off like the side of a Rd.
- 1:16:11There'll be a path and it'll be some woods and we're going
- 1:16:14through it and I'm like, this is anything but.
- 1:16:17I mean, it's a little hustling, hustle and bustle community.
- 1:16:20I mean, Liz, you've probably been a narrow path in Loveland,
- 1:16:22right? I actually have not.
- 1:16:25You have not. OK, but but you know, by the
- 1:16:28time I met up with you, you guys were on to the next one.
- 1:16:31So didn't make it. Didn't make it.
- 1:16:34That's OK. Next time.
- 1:16:36Next time. It's Steve.
- 1:16:37It's a great spot and I learned something so that that bike
- 1:16:40trail. So yeah.
- 1:16:41So we're narrow path is it's either call it the OR the
- 1:16:44beginning of this, this bike trail it goes 70 miles by the
- 1:16:49way. Wow, did not know that.
- 1:16:50And it's part of what they call it, part of the Little Miami
- 1:16:52Scenic Trail or something, 70 miles.
- 1:16:54So it's either right at the beginning or right at the end,
- 1:16:56depending which way you're going.
- 1:16:57And they aren't in the prime spot for this thing.
- 1:17:00You get off the trail in the backyard of narrow path is right
- 1:17:04there like I would say. Hey bike and Brill.
- 1:17:06Bike and Brill. Yes, I would probably pretend
- 1:17:09like I'm going to go biking and just go to the brewery and never
- 1:17:12actually get to the biking part, but it's awesome.
- 1:17:15It is awesome. And you know, we were there with
- 1:17:17the hill tappers and we probably sat out in the patio out there
- 1:17:21probably for a good two hours at least, you know, 75° weather.
- 1:17:25And there were so many people out there.
- 1:17:27The only, the only thing I wondered about was the brewery
- 1:17:30inside doesn't seem like it's the biggest.
- 1:17:33So I kind of wonder how they handle a lot of their things in
- 1:17:36the colder months. You probably have to get there
- 1:17:38early, but just a great tap list.
- 1:17:41I mean, I had, I had a couple of things, you know there that they
- 1:17:47in just a couple of things. I had their Irish bread and
- 1:17:50their Mexican lager and the theme, that's another theme.
- 1:17:53I had a lot of Mexican loggers on my trip.
- 1:17:55And they're, I was going to say the same thing.
- 1:17:57Yeah, yeah. They're Mexican lager was really
- 1:18:00good that day. So really enjoyed it and they
- 1:18:03had a food truck out there. I mean just a lot of lot going
- 1:18:06on at that brewery, Narrow Pass. So had a really good, we had a
- 1:18:10really good time there. And to your point, I bet you
- 1:18:13could fit five times as many people outside as you can fit
- 1:18:17inside that place. Like, like that day was perfect.
- 1:18:21Everybody was out sitting outside.
- 1:18:23There were people inside, but it was just, I don't just, it was
- 1:18:26one of those perfect experiences, a perfect weather
- 1:18:28day, you know, company was OK. We're a decent company.
- 1:18:32That's. Cuz I wasn't there.
- 1:18:35Said no, we love, we love the Hill Tavern.
- 1:18:37No, it was a great, it was a perfect, great day and just
- 1:18:39everything just added to the experience and.
- 1:18:42What was your perfect patio beer to go with this perfect day?
- 1:18:46I'll the one I liked I think the most, they had a, an English
- 1:18:51descent was like an ESB, which I got at the very tail end of it.
- 1:18:55But man, they had everything they had.
- 1:18:56They had amber loggers, they had red ale, they had a coconut
- 1:19:00Porter, an IPA, they had everything.
- 1:19:02But the English ESB is the thing I like the best.
- 1:19:06Yeah, and I like their Mexican lager quite a bit.
- 1:19:08I thought that was really good. So yeah, on par for summer,
- 1:19:10Steve. On par for summer, yeah.
- 1:19:12I know good, good drinking beer to sit out there.
- 1:19:15Did you get a lime wedge with it?
- 1:19:17Yeah, I think I did, yeah. Yeah.
- 1:19:20So we had it. We had it going on there.
- 1:19:22And then, you know, we were trying to figure out after
- 1:19:25narrow path where we should go next.
- 1:19:28And that's where Liz came in because she was texting us all
- 1:19:32kinds of options. And the thing I might love about
- 1:19:36Liz is that one of the things I love about Liz the most is that
- 1:19:39if you want to know anything about Cincinnati, like if you
- 1:19:42said where can I go, I'm up in this little small area of
- 1:19:46Cincinnati, where can I go and just get like a truffle, you
- 1:19:50would know. I just wanted to give you guys
- 1:19:54options. I didn't know, you know, as the,
- 1:19:57you know, hopping in on the middle of this adventure, I
- 1:20:00didn't know where you had been all yet that day.
- 1:20:03And so I was like, well, where are you?
- 1:20:05Let me, how far are you going and where can I recommend from
- 1:20:09there? So I like to give options
- 1:20:12because you never know what everybody's in the mood for.
- 1:20:14And I know you guys had a where it wasn't just the two of you.
- 1:20:18It was also the guys from Louisville.
- 1:20:20So, you know, just trying to give the group options in case
- 1:20:23someone's like, no, that's not my jam.
- 1:20:26You know, showing out Cincinnati options.
- 1:20:28Don't even know where to find jam if we need.
- 1:20:30If I said Liz, where do we find jam in Cincinnati, she could
- 1:20:33give us a good recommendation. Farmers Market.
- 1:20:35Finley. Let's see, we should do that one
- 1:20:38day. We'll do it like a quick ring
- 1:20:41the bell. Where else can you get this
- 1:20:42stuff? You guys can go to Finley
- 1:20:44Farmers Market, the zoo. I I did tell you guys I was
- 1:20:48like, let me plan a day. You'll you'll have a real random
- 1:20:50adventure, but you'll love. It.
- 1:20:53It'll definitely be fun. Well, next on the list was
- 1:20:58actually a brewery where Liz and I had gone couple of months ago
- 1:21:01and we returned, boys and girls. We returned to one of our
- 1:21:05favorite breweries in Cincinnati.
- 1:21:06I don't think I've ever gotten a bad beer here.
- 1:21:10And that would be Listamen across from Xavier University.
- 1:21:13I know I accidentally wore my BearCat hat, but I apologize to
- 1:21:16the bartender on the way in. You know, one of the beers I had
- 1:21:20there was called All for One and it was a pilsner and it was made
- 1:21:24for Xavier by the way. Cuz it's literally.
- 1:21:26A very Musketeer reference. Right.
- 1:21:29If you look at the picture on tapped, it's an X, So throwing
- 1:21:32that out there. Well, and there may have been a
- 1:21:34video that was taken at Listerman that was sent to our
- 1:21:37friends in Cleveland of me with a broom sweeping.
- 1:21:40I think you handed a broom to me because the rats had swept the
- 1:21:45Guardians slash Indians. Oh, is that why you were?
- 1:21:49I thought you were just helping out.
- 1:21:51Yeah, you thought I was just like part of the.
- 1:21:52Channel, Yeah, yeah, no, just helping out the team know what a
- 1:21:56purpose. Steve's a good citizen of the
- 1:21:58world. That's right.
- 1:22:00Thank you. Thank you.
- 1:22:02He's also throwing a middle finger up to the Guardians.
- 1:22:05Then I I did not do that. I would never.
- 1:22:08Be he was a scholar and a gentleman and very politely was
- 1:22:12sending a nice sweeping video to our friends Elizabeth and Keith
- 1:22:16in Cleveland. Hey, guys.
- 1:22:20Yeah, hey, hey. But yeah, we had a we all had a
- 1:22:22great time. I know, I know the hill tappers
- 1:22:26love Listerman, as did I. And you know, it's the fourth
- 1:22:29time that I have checked in every time, every time I go
- 1:22:34there, it's almost always on the list.
- 1:22:35Now, the last time Liz and I went there, it was basically the
- 1:22:39Saint Patrick's Day theme. So I had to get the Saint
- 1:22:42Patrick's Day theme beers. I didn't this time, although
- 1:22:45they still had one on the list. But I had the lemon # cake
- 1:22:50blonde. And I always love that thing,
- 1:22:53man. Every time I go there and it's
- 1:22:55on the list, I have to get it. And that's a fourth year in a
- 1:22:57row, a fourth time in a row that that I've gotten.
- 1:23:00I like that it's always there. That is a great beer.
- 1:23:03Yeah. You know, I walked in the place
- 1:23:05and the first thing I wanted was the Dunkle.
- 1:23:06And guess was the first thing they were out of was the Dunkle.
- 1:23:09Yeah, but they didn't. Know you were picking a popular
- 1:23:12one. I guess, but it was still on the
- 1:23:14board. But yes, that yeah, but they
- 1:23:17didn't have a pre prohibition logger, which was damn good.
- 1:23:19And I had the All for one pilsner.
- 1:23:20So I, I do love listening. I didn't want to get in, You
- 1:23:23know, they always have the 12 percenters on the board anytime
- 1:23:27you want them. I didn't quite get into it that
- 1:23:29time of the day. I was like, not yet, just not
- 1:23:31yet. No, I've never been there.
- 1:23:33The time of the day where I've won a 12% beer, that would
- 1:23:35probably be like the last part of the day that I would probably
- 1:23:39go and then I'd be like, all right, this aliment.
- 1:23:41I know, but they're really good at them.
- 1:23:44They're really good at making those beers.
- 1:23:46Yes, they are. So a couple of the other beers
- 1:23:48that I had, there was a pre Prohibition Louder and the
- 1:23:51German Pilsner as well that that I really loved and checked in.
- 1:23:55It's always good to check in at Listerman Brewing, even though I
- 1:23:59know for you, Liz, it's almost enemy territory since you know
- 1:24:02Xavier is right across the street.
- 1:24:05You know, I am a BearCat fan, but guess what?
- 1:24:08You're a Musketeer fan and we get along.
- 1:24:10So it can be done. It can be done.
- 1:24:14Contrary to what people think it's possible.
- 1:24:18It is it. Is coexist.
- 1:24:20Exactly. Yeah, yeah.
- 1:24:23Just be two hours a couple times a year.
- 1:24:27We're rooting for different teams, but at the same time, if
- 1:24:30you're from Cincinnati, you just want to root for Cincinnati, so.
- 1:24:34But see, the stronger bond that Liz and I have is the fact that
- 1:24:36they're W we're W siders. We grew up like almost 3 or 4
- 1:24:39miles from each other. And if we found out the last
- 1:24:41time we were in town, we had the same dentist growing up.
- 1:24:45We're cool. Maybe we were there at the same
- 1:24:47time. You just, we just didn't know
- 1:24:48it. Like there's, there's Liz
- 1:24:50sitting over there, there's Steve sitting over here and, you
- 1:24:52know, with our coloring books or something, you know?
- 1:24:55You never know. You never know.
- 1:24:57It's the two degrees of separation of Kevin Bacon.
- 1:25:00That's right. Well someone gave you each
- 1:25:02different coloring books cuz I want roots for Cincinnati.
- 1:25:06Want roots to? Say, Oh my gosh.
- 1:25:10Well, I guess we should have, you know, encouraged Steve
- 1:25:13earlier that red and black are cooler colors than blue and
- 1:25:16white. Oh, there it is.
- 1:25:18I. Know I.
- 1:25:21Know it's always gonna be there, Steve.
- 1:25:24It's OK Steve likes the color red because it's our Cincinnati
- 1:25:26Reds too, so. Yeah, there you go.
- 1:25:28There you go. Quintessential Cincinnati color
- 1:25:30red. Yeah, well, after Listerman, who
- 1:25:34wants to talk about our next place?
- 1:25:36I think Liz, you're up with Melatone.
- 1:25:40You guys were, I think at that point hungry.
- 1:25:44And so we were throwing out some ideas.
- 1:25:47You know, I think Steve had a list and we were trying to
- 1:25:50accomplish this list. And Next up on this list, you
- 1:25:54know, the old Taf Brewing downtown unfortunately closed
- 1:25:58but was revamped and revived by Melatone, which none of us had
- 1:26:03seen under the new decor or beer making.
- 1:26:07So that was our next stop down to Over The Rhine to see
- 1:26:11Melatone, you know. And you talk about the list, the
- 1:26:15list. We didn't talk about this in the
- 1:26:16beginning of the podcast, but the list is still big and the
- 1:26:20list gets bigger and bigger. It's it's kind of become like a
- 1:26:22big joke of like every time somebody will text about going
- 1:26:28up to Cincinnati. And a lot of times we're all on
- 1:26:30group text, you know, group text.
- 1:26:32And I'll just say, well, it's being added to the list.
- 1:26:38It's it's it's at this point I think a scroll that's a few
- 1:26:42miles long, but we'll eventually accomplish it, so it's fine.
- 1:26:45We're gonna we're gonna accomplish everything on that
- 1:26:48list. Scott.
- 1:26:49What do you think? Even the zoo.
- 1:26:51I'm not putting zoo on my list but but.
- 1:26:55What we may. Have that dunkle from
- 1:26:57Listerman's Would you go? You could, you could draw me in
- 1:27:00with that, maybe a couple of other things.
- 1:27:03You got to kill two to three hours.
- 1:27:04The coolest zoo in America You got to You got to go see our our
- 1:27:08lovely, lovely lady Fiona the hippo.
- 1:27:09She has pride and joy. Well, Melatone was a new
- 1:27:14addition. It was on the list.
- 1:27:16I don't know if we had put it on like this is exactly where we're
- 1:27:20gonna go when we hit town, but we knew about it.
- 1:27:24And I'm glad we went because as you said, Liz, send the old, the
- 1:27:27old Taft brewhouse. And it's very different, though.
- 1:27:31I mean, I went in there and I don't, I can't remember.
- 1:27:35Liz, had you been there before? I had not been there since
- 1:27:38Melatone had redone the space. OK, so it's basically it's very
- 1:27:43modern looking. We go in there and I was, I was
- 1:27:46kind of surprised by it. I was like, oh wow, OK, a little
- 1:27:49more upscale, a little more modern, but they do have good
- 1:27:53food and they had craft beer options as well and a lot of
- 1:27:56other things. Yeah, You know, I was happy to
- 1:27:58see that there was beer going back in there, whether you call
- 1:28:02it a brewery, maybe it looks a little more food oriented,
- 1:28:05restaurant oriented. Nice place.
- 1:28:08Like you said, they did have good beer.
- 1:28:10I just think it leans a little more towards the food side than
- 1:28:12it does the the brewery side. But it was nice to see somebody
- 1:28:16going back in there that that had beer cuz I've been to that
- 1:28:19Taft. And so it was a great place.
- 1:28:21I would guess it's probably more small batch versus large batch.
- 1:28:24Definitely. But but the stuff was good.
- 1:28:26We we like the stuff once we figured out what it was.
- 1:28:28I loved actually. I know this is not beer related,
- 1:28:32but I had ordered a cucumber caprese salad while I was there
- 1:28:37and I was straight up obsessed that the zucchinis came in
- 1:28:39zoodle noodles. So like, they were like
- 1:28:43spaghetti noodles made out of cucumbers.
- 1:28:45So I went home and tried to reproduce that later in the
- 1:28:48week. Yeah, I'm not there yet, but
- 1:28:51we're gonna, it's gonna be a summer adventure of trying to
- 1:28:53figure out how to reproduce this to the best of my abilities.
- 1:28:56So some of that was ingredients and what I could find, but I
- 1:29:00don't know. I was a big fan of that so.
- 1:29:02Maybe just need the right tool for you know that.
- 1:29:04Thing no I I have a zoodler. You have it.
- 1:29:08OK Yeah, great place. Just just happy to see somebody
- 1:29:12back in there making beer, so hopefully they have a long life
- 1:29:16there. Did you guys have a favorite
- 1:29:18beer there? The favorite beer that I had
- 1:29:20that I rated on a flight was the 15th St.
- 1:29:24Bloom Hazy New England IPA, but it was the Hazy New England IPA,
- 1:29:33so that was my favorite on a flight.
- 1:29:34It was cool they had a Champlain.
- 1:29:37Champlain Stunner, New England. I paid, which I really liked.
- 1:29:41And by the way, we got to meet Tom's daughter here and her
- 1:29:43boyfriend, remember, for the first time.
- 1:29:45Zoe Beer Cat. Yeah, yeah, for the first time
- 1:29:49here. Yeah.
- 1:29:49So absolutely. It was a great meeting up,
- 1:29:52really. We did like the place.
- 1:29:53The place was really nice. It was, it was so well, that
- 1:29:57was, that was a great time and a great day to end the day at
- 1:30:01Melaton because it was a Sunday night and you know, like most
- 1:30:05cities, they start rolling the sidewalks up at about 9:00 or
- 1:30:08so. So, you know, we had a call
- 1:30:11tonight. Liz would not invite us back to
- 1:30:13her palatial estate in Indian Hill, you know, with 7 bedrooms
- 1:30:18and a big party house. She said Nope, sorry y'all, you
- 1:30:22can't come, you can't come back to my place tonight with the
- 1:30:24disco ball. And, you know, I know Scott
- 1:30:27wanted to bring his zoot suit back there and everything else,
- 1:30:29and Liz said absolutely not. Yeah, just.
- 1:30:32Me and Joe Burrow hanging out, no big deal.
- 1:30:36Yeah, we'll get to that. We'll get to that in a few
- 1:30:38minutes. We weren't, we, we probably
- 1:30:39weren't that far a couple days after or near Joe Burrow over
- 1:30:44over in that area. But you know, we got to talk
- 1:30:46about our our pretty epic day that began.
- 1:30:50And I said this because when we went on that Monday, May 19th
- 1:30:55and we started our day at Mad Tree and we walked in there is
- 1:31:00around 11:00 and this is the Mad Tree location in Oakley.
- 1:31:05And I said, you know when you can walk into a brewery at about
- 1:31:0811/11/30 on a Monday morning, you are living life pretty good.
- 1:31:12You guys were quite the celebrities at Mad Tree.
- 1:31:16Had some people coming out to say hello.
- 1:31:18Yeah, our buddy Ryan, who is the Director of Operations.
- 1:31:25Yes. Formerly the head Brewer who was
- 1:31:26on the podcast, he and Brittany were on the podcast and he came
- 1:31:29out to say hello, which was great to meet him.
- 1:31:31He said he was going to be there and we said, hey, we're here.
- 1:31:34And he came down and talked to us for quite a while.
- 1:31:36So it was great to finally meet him in person.
- 1:31:38Yeah, it really was. And you know, we we were almost,
- 1:31:42almost cursing ourselves last year because we did not get the
- 1:31:45matri Oakley. We had stayed up in that area
- 1:31:48and we left town and we were like, how did we not get to Matt
- 1:31:52Tree and it didn't happen. And you know, we've been there
- 1:31:55so many times. Love that location.
- 1:31:58The thing, I think the thing I noticed a change we walked in
- 1:32:00there is they got somebody now that is, you know, seating you
- 1:32:03because they've got more food options and things like that.
- 1:32:06And we keep talking about it's like more of the like the
- 1:32:08brewery experience. So Matt Tree in Oakley has
- 1:32:11changed quite a bit too, just in terms of how they're doing it
- 1:32:15because they, you know, even though they have a lot of
- 1:32:18crappier options, they also serve a lot of other kind of
- 1:32:22too. So that's a cool thing.
- 1:32:24That was just another day, another perfect weather day.
- 1:32:27That day we started out with we had like 3 days in a row where
- 1:32:30we started out, didn't start out great.
- 1:32:32We had three days in a row that were absolutely perfect and this
- 1:32:35was another one of those were just added to the experience.
- 1:32:38You guys, Southern gentleman brought that sunshine to Port
- 1:32:42Rainey, Ohio. I don't know what happened to it
- 1:32:45after those three days, but. We, we went back to rain.
- 1:32:48We went back to rain guys. You know, we know we we rain
- 1:32:52followed us the entire trip that we're gonna be talking about on
- 1:32:56our next Cleveland Takeover podcast because it rained for
- 1:33:00days. But I know, I know.
- 1:33:02It was great getting back there and I had a couple of great
- 1:33:05things on a flight. I had their oat logger, which
- 1:33:07was really good. Yeah, can be Lynx also, which
- 1:33:11was their Czech dark logger that I rated like a 4.25 on Untapped.
- 1:33:16And I loved those beers. And I always love most of the
- 1:33:21options, crappier options that they have, you know, at Mad
- 1:33:24Tree. And Liz and I can talk about
- 1:33:26this because, you know, we went, we had brunch at the one
- 1:33:30downtown a couple of months ago. Yeah.
- 1:33:33And and you've been to their new location too, and.
- 1:33:37I've been to Parks and Rec. Yep.
- 1:33:39And so we were actually talking about that with Ryan because I
- 1:33:42said, you know, it seems like it's still is.
- 1:33:46I think is I think Matry is is trying to really branch out and
- 1:33:50get everybody in the brewery experience.
- 1:33:52I think the one in Oakley is still the place you probably
- 1:33:55want to go, and they would even all agree if you want to get
- 1:33:58most of the craft beer. For the beer, yeah, You know, we
- 1:34:01walked in and we were just started talking about the menu
- 1:34:03in the in the bartender was like, hey, try these different
- 1:34:06seeing colors that they had. Remember they had like a hazy
- 1:34:09and a tropical or something. And I started sampling of some
- 1:34:12things and like, oh, these are great.
- 1:34:14And another one that they had, Steven, you talked about this
- 1:34:17earlier. Mexican logger.
- 1:34:18They had a great Mexican logger. Yep, they sure did.
- 1:34:21And, and, and a health logger. Yeah, like the whole, the whole
- 1:34:26weekend we went, the whole week we've been gone.
- 1:34:27We had Mexican lager almost everywhere we went.
- 1:34:29It seemed like they're out in force and they were delicious.
- 1:34:32And that was another example of them.
- 1:34:34They are. Yeah.
- 1:34:36Well, like I said earlier, when you could start your day on a
- 1:34:40Monday at Mad Tree or a Brandy brewery at about 11:30 in the
- 1:34:44morning, if that is, if that's your Monday, you know it.
- 1:34:48It's always a good time. Yep.
- 1:34:50Now our friend, our friend Liz here, she got to join us.
- 1:34:53She couldn't drink. She couldn't drink.
- 1:34:56Well, it's. Considered to go to work and you
- 1:34:57know, work like any good citizen.
- 1:35:00I was there for the social component, but also I did take
- 1:35:05my to go purchase very seriously and they relaunched their rocket
- 1:35:13pop sway for the summer. So, you know, I needed to get
- 1:35:16that for Memorial Day weekend so I could have my red, white and
- 1:35:19blue popsicle vodka in a can. Right.
- 1:35:23Which you did, which you took with you.
- 1:35:24So yes, you did. And I just saw you posted that
- 1:35:28as well. I did.
- 1:35:30I did, with a cute little sunset behind it.
- 1:35:32So figured, you know, it was one of those golden hours.
- 1:35:35You're having a nice cocktail. Yeah.
- 1:35:38It needed it needed it's a little own photo shoot.
- 1:35:41All the fantastic pictures and videos that every day I'm
- 1:35:45bubbling. Follow her on Instagram because
- 1:35:47it is great. Yep, by the way, and I don't
- 1:35:49know if you said it, but the Hill Tappers joined us here as
- 1:35:51well, as well as Beer Cat. She she joined us again too.
- 1:35:55And just again, just another great, great way to start the
- 1:35:59day. Yes, I'm very, I am very glad
- 1:36:03that we made it back to Mad Tree and we'll talk about the next
- 1:36:06place. But you, Scott, are on your own
- 1:36:09on this one because I did not get over to West Side this time.
- 1:36:12I was off doing family stuff. But, you know, right, West Side
- 1:36:16Brewing is one of our favorite places because, you know, we are
- 1:36:20from the West side. So, Scott?
- 1:36:22Do you have a good West Side brewing?
- 1:36:24Yes. Scott went over there and he
- 1:36:26hosted the Hill Tappers over a West side.
- 1:36:29Brewing. We had a kind of a reshuffling
- 1:36:32of cars, dropped you off to do your thing.
- 1:36:35Liz had to go to work and we went over to West Side and man,
- 1:36:39we had, I had a couple of, had a couple of flights over there,
- 1:36:42which is really, I love it because I got there.
- 1:36:44They always have the windows that face the street up.
- 1:36:48You kind of look out into the street and when people watch
- 1:36:50and, and which was which is always great.
- 1:36:52And we just had some other beers, man.
- 1:36:55They had a smoke logger, an English mild, another Mexican
- 1:37:00logger, if you can believe it. They had Lorian lager, a Lyman
- 1:37:03sea salt common ale. I mean they had everything on
- 1:37:07there. So again, hill tappers joined,
- 1:37:09joined me. We sat there, had a couple of
- 1:37:12had a couple of fights past the time a bit.
- 1:37:15We put our stickers up all over the place.
- 1:37:17There are multiple locations. Yes, there are multiple
- 1:37:20locations within the the brewery you can put your stickers at.
- 1:37:22And we did. We did all that so.
- 1:37:24Scott had the advantage this time.
- 1:37:26I was a little jealous because you know, the last two times I
- 1:37:30went there and I think one of the times I was there with you
- 1:37:32Liz, they didn't have the windows open cuz it was like 12°
- 1:37:35outside. Yes, you also came on a highly
- 1:37:39precipitation weekend, but of the flurrying kind.
- 1:37:43It seems every time I go and Steve, it's kind of the same
- 1:37:45story cuz you're kind of doing your thing.
- 1:37:47And I go to West Side cuz it's close by and it's the, the
- 1:37:50weather's always nice because it's May, right?
- 1:37:52It's kind of late May and the windows are open and I just sit
- 1:37:54there drinking beer and the sunlights coming in.
- 1:37:56It's, it's a nice little spot. They've got great beer.
- 1:37:59And what is it? Is it Gillian's?
- 1:38:01Is the other brand that they have?
- 1:38:03Gilligan's. Gilligan's.
- 1:38:05It's Gilligan's. So you have some of that on the
- 1:38:07menu too. So you get a kind of a mix of
- 1:38:09Westside and Gilligan's, which is all under the same umbrella.
- 1:38:12Really good stuff. And we killed a couple of
- 1:38:14flights waiting, waiting on Steve to get done.
- 1:38:17Well, Liz and I actually went to Gilligan's the last time that I
- 1:38:20had been in town in the nation in Wyoming.
- 1:38:24So yeah, really, really great place.
- 1:38:26But the thing I always say about Westside is you can go in there
- 1:38:31like every couple of months and you always see different beer
- 1:38:34there. Yeah, I mean, they they produce
- 1:38:36a lot of variations of beer and different beer and everything in
- 1:38:41there is always good. You know, and they do A and I've
- 1:38:44seen it a million times every time I've been in there.
- 1:38:45They have a regular West Side IPA.
- 1:38:47And I looked up and, you know, sometimes you think you've had
- 1:38:50something and you're looking on a tap.
- 1:38:51Like I realized I hadn't had the regular West Side IPA.
- 1:38:54So I had that in addition to everything else this time too.
- 1:38:58So man, I had it. We had it all.
- 1:39:00And we just kind of waiting on Steve.
- 1:39:03We're like, oh come on, where we're going next?
- 1:39:05Well, the next place we went, Liz, was your favorite place.
- 1:39:09I know I had FOMO. I know, I know you weren't
- 1:39:14there, but I helped represent the place well.
- 1:39:18And we went to the we went to the world famous Brink.
- 1:39:21Brink. Brink.
- 1:39:23We love it. That's right.
- 1:39:24I know Scott had been there once.
- 1:39:26The Hill Tappers It was their first time ever at Brink Brewing
- 1:39:31and Liz. You guys got to see you got to
- 1:39:34see the whole patio redo Outback.
- 1:39:37Yep. Yeah, yeah, because we walked in
- 1:39:39from that way, I think. I had I had some big time
- 1:39:42breaking news that happened at Brink.
- 1:39:44What was that? Do I forget if?
- 1:39:46You know the West Coast IPA tour that's going.
- 1:39:49On that, I'm on Amazon. Oh oh, I feel like this is going
- 1:39:53to be a big news. This is big news.
- 1:39:55This is breaking news on the Brewery Underground podcast.
- 1:39:58Their West Coast IPA, the. Operatic IPA.
- 1:40:02You heard it here first. Folks, she will be here all week
- 1:40:07from the breaking news desk. Dramatic pause here.
- 1:40:12Drum roll please. The. 1st.
- 1:40:14Time. Ever.
- 1:40:16It would of course make sense. The brewery that I grew up the
- 1:40:20closest to, I've rated the highest I've ever rated a West
- 1:40:24Coast IPA. Now.
- 1:40:27Operatic IPA at Brink Brewing. I rated not a four because I had
- 1:40:33not even rated A4 on on tap of a West Coast IPA.
- 1:40:38Nah man, we took it to a 4.2. Five.
- 1:40:42Wow, that. Is big news.
- 1:40:45That is big news. Wow, what a jump.
- 1:40:48What a jump. What was the previously highest
- 1:40:51rated West Coast IPA 375? Probably 3. .75 Yep.
- 1:40:56Had a lot of those checked in if you're.
- 1:40:58Like backing up my brink is the best statement so.
- 1:41:02Yeah, I hadn't jumped over, I hadn't jumped into the four
- 1:41:04realm yet. And I was like, you know what?
- 1:41:08This one, this is a fantastic West Coast IPA at our level.
- 1:41:14You know, I was there for it. I remember you talking about it
- 1:41:18and I'm still in disbelief. I saw.
- 1:41:23It I think you were kind of paying attention to your own
- 1:41:26beer there, Scott. There was a lot going on that
- 1:41:29day. There's a lot I do remember you
- 1:41:31talking about that, that this is your, This is like a moment like
- 1:41:34this is the highest rated West Coast FK you've ever had.
- 1:41:36Anyways, yes, I do recall. Well, and then, you know, Brad
- 1:41:40from our The Hill Tappers likes to call it the Sully scale.
- 1:41:44You know. It's like, you know, I do what I
- 1:41:47do. And then the other one I had Liz
- 1:41:49and we, I know we had a bit of a debate on this one, but I rate
- 1:41:52it high, the Gold Top IPA. Yeah, I was always under the
- 1:41:57impression that was named after the gold top creamy dairy bar.
- 1:42:02That was where Steve and I hailed and got our, you know,
- 1:42:06summer ice creams from. It's still round, too.
- 1:42:09It still exists to this day. They're in White Oak, right down
- 1:42:12the street from White Oak Junior Cry.
- 1:42:14Can't miss it. It's a gold pyramid top.
- 1:42:17It is. It's been around.
- 1:42:19It's been around all my life. And Scott's like, yeah, OK, all
- 1:42:21right, yeah. Much, much like the name Gold
- 1:42:24Top. I'll tell you, I had a weird one
- 1:42:27there and I say it was a king cake.
- 1:42:29It was called King cake. Liz, have you had that one?
- 1:42:32I have, and I think that was one of our friends from Louisville's
- 1:42:36favorite beer of the trend. It was.
- 1:42:38Tom loved that beer. Yes, and the more.
- 1:42:41The more he had, the more he liked it.
- 1:42:44Yeah, that's definitely for earlier in the year holidays.
- 1:42:48Yeah, but. It's a good one.
- 1:42:50It's kind of a, it's kind of a winter, winter ale type with the
- 1:42:54spice and stuff in there and it's good.
- 1:42:56I guess Kincake was kind of related to like Mardi Gras or
- 1:42:59something. I guess it's kind of somehow and
- 1:43:02it was OK. I'm not hating on it, man.
- 1:43:04The more you drank, the more it kind of weighed on you.
- 1:43:07It was like, I can't wait for this to be a.
- 1:43:08Heavier beer. I think it's sweeter.
- 1:43:11You know you got to be in the right mood for that one.
- 1:43:14A lot of spice. There was a lot of spice in it.
- 1:43:16Yeah. He Tom loved that.
- 1:43:18Yes, that was his favorite and I was like, Oh well I bet you they
- 1:43:22had some bottles you could take home.
- 1:43:23So because they have their little refrigerator right there
- 1:43:25that you can grab some to go. From I did have a moozy and
- 1:43:30isn't moozy Steve that gold winning for the World Cup 2025?
- 1:43:34Didn't they win gold Moozy? Cincinnati correspondent Liz,
- 1:43:39our Moozy expert. Wasn't that in our episode?
- 1:43:42Did win World Cup gold medal? Gold.
- 1:43:45That's right, yes. For milk.
- 1:43:47Sweet. Stout, yes, and they had another
- 1:43:49World Cup win with Little Zoomy. So that's my other favorite at
- 1:43:55Brink Moozy and Little Zoomy. Dark Beers and Little Zoomy was
- 1:44:00a collab with Laturza Coffee, which is down the street.
- 1:44:04So it's just it's got a nice little pick me up to it.
- 1:44:06It's the, I would call it the espresso martini of beers.
- 1:44:10You get a little Zing with that 1, so it's a good time.
- 1:44:13Again, another place that had a ton of different styles.
- 1:44:16I had a lime logger, I had the IPAI, had that New England IPI,
- 1:44:20had the milk stuff, I had the winter.
- 1:44:22Like, it's all sorts of things you can get.
- 1:44:25I do love that about there because, you know, sometimes you
- 1:44:27go to different breweries and they'll have, you know, a
- 1:44:30majority of one style of beer on the board.
- 1:44:32And if you're someone who likes multiple styles or, you know,
- 1:44:36maybe you're a dark beer person in the summer thinking, oh man,
- 1:44:39what am I going to do? I I do love that Brink always
- 1:44:43has a little bit of everything on the board.
- 1:44:45You know, they have multiple rotating, you know, seasonal
- 1:44:48beers as well, but they do have like a core group of beers that
- 1:44:52are multiple styled. And Steve, if I ever remember it
- 1:44:55didn't, wasn't their Flight 5 on the flight?
- 1:44:58Yeah, you know, most of four that was a, you get a fifth one
- 1:45:02on that one which is nice and kind of add that extra style if
- 1:45:05you need it. And not everybody does that.
- 1:45:07W 6th house did that. They did a flight of five when I
- 1:45:10walked in there. So yeah, yeah, they're fancy.
- 1:45:13Yeah. Well.
- 1:45:15Yes, we love, we love Brink and it's always cool to get new
- 1:45:19people there because I said, I think Scott, you'd only maybe
- 1:45:22been there once. I remember I took there a couple
- 1:45:24years ago and I think I've been to Brink now probably at least a
- 1:45:28dozen times, Been there with Liz a couple of times.
- 1:45:30And so it's always a great time. And I have a feeling the next
- 1:45:34time I come in town, Liz will probably end up there again.
- 1:45:36We'll we'll be back. We'll be back.
- 1:45:38It's a good. Spot.
- 1:45:39We'll be doing it live. Doing it live.
- 1:45:44Well, we from Brink, you know, Scott, we teased this earlier
- 1:45:49because there had been a brewery.
- 1:45:51We hit town. We had only been there for half
- 1:45:53an hour. We were in a hurry.
- 1:45:58The Reds game got moved up. We were going to pregame at
- 1:46:02Rhinegeist on that Friday. When we got in town, we were
- 1:46:05going to be there for like two, 2 1/2 hours at least and we only
- 1:46:10and we got there and we realized we were pressed for time.
- 1:46:14So we only got there when we went to Rhine Geist and hit
- 1:46:18town. We were only there for half hour
- 1:46:21and then we got on the streetcar and we realized when we got got
- 1:46:24out of there, there is no way you can do Rhine Geist justice
- 1:46:29by only staying for half hour. So we came back.
- 1:46:32So we went. Kind of you to go back and give
- 1:46:36it another tour. Twist the arm.
- 1:46:39Twist the arm. I mean, they've earned it.
- 1:46:43Ryan Geiss has earned it. Go back a second time.
- 1:46:46We were happy to go back. We couldn't wait to get back.
- 1:46:49And by the way, and we would make sure we spend a lot of time
- 1:46:51there this time. Liz, you joined us.
- 1:46:54I did because I could have a beer this time.
- 1:46:56You finally came, but you came back.
- 1:46:58All right, I'm back now. Here's the great here's one of
- 1:47:00the great things. We got to spend some time, went
- 1:47:02to the rooftop. Steve, if you recall, if we
- 1:47:04looked on the board, there were a couple of beer names up there
- 1:47:08which I had not noticed. I don't know if you noticed or
- 1:47:10someone else noticed. I took a picture of it.
- 1:47:12When we. First walked in there when we
- 1:47:14were only there half hour I. Noticed you noticed the first
- 1:47:17time, yes. OK, so we got our picture the
- 1:47:19second time we went back. Well, they had two beer names
- 1:47:22that were pretty basically named after Steve and I.
- 1:47:25The Brewery Underground podcast Beer.
- 1:47:28Not quite that specific, but there was, there was, there was
- 1:47:31a Scotty and a Steve and they were on the board and they were
- 1:47:34right next to each other. It's like they knew we were
- 1:47:36coming. I mean, they knew they were
- 1:47:39welcome. Did you guys try those beers?
- 1:47:41Of course. And I'd had, I'd had the Steve
- 1:47:44before. It's pretty good.
- 1:47:45I'd had the Steve. Well, I had the Scott before I
- 1:47:47had not I, so I had the Steve That time we got a little
- 1:47:50pictures under little names. Isn't the cute?
- 1:47:52And I know it was named for they.
- 1:47:55They wouldn't tell us it was named for us, but they weren't
- 1:47:57named for us. I know I.
- 1:47:59Know delicious beers so. Yeah, absolutely.
- 1:48:02But we did get to to the rooftop this time and got to spend
- 1:48:07several hours. We spent a lot of time out
- 1:48:11there. Liz was there, the hill tappers
- 1:48:13were there and that's another thing that went through my mind
- 1:48:16that day. I'm like, so we're starting the
- 1:48:18day on a Monday at Mantri, We're one of the first people here and
- 1:48:24we're ending the day on a Monday at Rhengeist.
- 1:48:28And we basically closed the place and we were one of the
- 1:48:33last ones there on the rooftop and in the whole place.
- 1:48:36So I think we all won. And Liz, you're a champ because
- 1:48:39even though you were working, you still came out on a Monday
- 1:48:43to have a beer with us. Well.
- 1:48:46I love a rooftop. Those are my favorite all summer
- 1:48:49long. I have a my own personal list of
- 1:48:52rooftops I have to hit this summer.
- 1:48:54So yeah, can't turn down a good night with sunshine friends.
- 1:48:59I was excited to try my favorite BearCat beer, the Sensi Lite
- 1:49:04Lime, the new little summertime version of Since A Light, and I
- 1:49:10ended up having that again at Taste of Cincinnati last week,
- 1:49:13and I think I've decided that might be the beer of summer, so,
- 1:49:17you know. What I actually had that that
- 1:49:20was my beer of choice. When we got to Rungeist and we
- 1:49:24were only there for half hour, I got it.
- 1:49:27I really hope they can that cuz that I can see yeah being a
- 1:49:31poolside boat beer slash tailgating beer this fall cuz
- 1:49:36I'm sure they'll have some leftover and carry on over into
- 1:49:39football tailgating season. So.
- 1:49:42Yeah, nice refreshing beer. Yeah.
- 1:49:44Anything that you kind of put lime in.
- 1:49:45In light beers like that they always work out pretty good.
- 1:49:48Well, it was a it was a fun time all around.
- 1:49:50And then we ended up group of us, we ended up went over to
- 1:49:53Yard House after that little little.
- 1:49:55Because we were looking, yeah, we were looking for a place that
- 1:49:58was still open. Yeah.
- 1:50:01Mondays are hard. It's industry night.
- 1:50:03So yeah. And you, you guys were champs.
- 1:50:06You were a whole day of events and you even carried on past my
- 1:50:11bedtimes. I'll tell you this though, when
- 1:50:14we got to Yard House, we got some food, I got a beer.
- 1:50:17I got about three 3/4 of the way through that beer and I'm like,
- 1:50:20I can't drink another freaking beer today.
- 1:50:22I was full more, not just from like.
- 1:50:25Coma. Overcame me two times that week.
- 1:50:29And the second time it happened was the last place we were at
- 1:50:33when you and you and myself and Liz were hanging out.
- 1:50:36But we'll talk about that here in a minute because, you know,
- 1:50:40that led us to the last day we were there, Scott.
- 1:50:42And that was on the Tuesday, May 20th, where Liz, who always
- 1:50:49knows everywhere to go, she knows everything.
- 1:50:53She recommended a great breakfast place for us, my
- 1:50:56favorite spot on my breakfast and when in the food coming
- 1:50:59right away but it was so great. It's a it's a little known, you
- 1:51:03know, you wouldn't know it was there because it doesn't
- 1:51:05necessarily stand out, but to the locals, it's the place to
- 1:51:10be. It's only open for breakfast and
- 1:51:12lunch, but it's in Hyde Park Square.
- 1:51:15It's called the Echo. So it's a small, tiny little
- 1:51:18diner. Can't go wrong.
- 1:51:20You can order breakfast at any point in time or lunch at any
- 1:51:23point in time. So, and they also have of, you
- 1:51:26know, mimosas and Bloody Marys for those who are ready to start
- 1:51:31their day early with their vitamins.
- 1:51:33What do you guys get? Egg salad sandwich, Steve, what
- 1:51:36did you get? I've got a very big eggs
- 1:51:41Benedict, the biggest eggs Benedict I've ever had in my
- 1:51:45life, and some potatoes on the side and they were awesome.
- 1:51:50But then I was like, man, I'm about to go into a food coma
- 1:51:53here, and it kind of followed me all through the day.
- 1:51:55Yeah, but it was a. It was a.
- 1:51:57Great way to start the day. And I had said I had not been in
- 1:52:01Hyde, the Hyde Park area of Cincinnati in many in many a
- 1:52:06year. So, Liz, thank you for taking us
- 1:52:08there. Listen, you got to start your
- 1:52:11drinking day right? We got to, you know, get you a
- 1:52:13good base and make sure you were recovered from the night before.
- 1:52:17So they do a good job there of filling you up and getting you
- 1:52:22ready for the day. That's right, and a double order
- 1:52:25of eggs Benedict. Whoa, yeah, buddy, next time I'm
- 1:52:29gonna I'm gonna bring my twin with me and be like, OK.
- 1:52:33I know I kept trying to get you guys to order the hot mess,
- 1:52:35which is also a champion of breakfast there.
- 1:52:38I mean, it's, it's yeah, it's, it's everything piled onto 1
- 1:52:42plate. And yeah.
- 1:52:44And they have the vegetarian version too, for those who are
- 1:52:48not into Guetta or sausage or bacon.
- 1:52:52Well, it was a mighty fine breakfast to start the day.
- 1:52:55It was good. And I felt like it was a mighty
- 1:52:58fine breakfast to to get us on to where we finally went.
- 1:53:04It's been long overdue. It's been a long, long, long
- 1:53:08overdue trip to where we went next.
- 1:53:10One of the best breweries in Cincinnati.
- 1:53:14We knew and I've known for years about this place.
- 1:53:17I just haven't been able to get there.
- 1:53:19Little Miami and Milford, Holy cow.
- 1:53:23That's what I'm going to say. Guys.
- 1:53:25Talk about Little Miami. Steve, it's been our list for a
- 1:53:28long time. We've talked about it for years.
- 1:53:30Like you said earlier, geographically it's never kind
- 1:53:33of worked. So we made it work this time and
- 1:53:35it was well worth the visit. There's a distillery right
- 1:53:38across the street that next time we're going to go visit, we're
- 1:53:41going to, we're going to, we're going to plan a little better
- 1:53:43next time we go visit that. But the place was phenomenal.
- 1:53:46Another one we checked off like we, I didn't have any food
- 1:53:48there. I don't know if you guys did.
- 1:53:50Beer was fantastic. The space is awesome.
- 1:53:52It rained so much we could not sit outside.
- 1:53:54It's literally on the river. You could sit out there.
- 1:53:58With your beer. I think had it been sunny and
- 1:54:01about 80° I'm not so sure we would have gone anywhere else
- 1:54:05the rest of the day. That's a fair point.
- 1:54:08You can go canoeing at one of the local canoe spots and hop
- 1:54:12out of your canoe and walk up the hill and sit on the patio
- 1:54:15and have a beer and then get back in your canoe and continue
- 1:54:18on your journey. So yes.
- 1:54:20I just wish we could have, weather permitting, we could
- 1:54:23have sat out there and just done that because that would have
- 1:54:25been cool as shit. Well, good things Steve put it
- 1:54:28back on the list. Oh yes.
- 1:54:30Oh, yeah, It was on the top of the priority list.
- 1:54:35Like that was basically like the non negotiable, we're going
- 1:54:38there unless, you know, my legs are broken or, you know, Scott
- 1:54:42broke my legs because he got sick and tired of me or
- 1:54:44something. No, I mean, seriously, it's just
- 1:54:50a huge space inside. And the thing that really struck
- 1:54:53me is I don't think I've ever been to a brewery where you look
- 1:54:56up and they have like a little thing they will flash.
- 1:55:00And it wasn't that when we were there of how much time you have
- 1:55:04to wait, like, you know, 15 minute wait, 20 minute wait, 40
- 1:55:08minute wait. There wasn't a wait when we got
- 1:55:11there. But I'm going, how many
- 1:55:12breweries have that? And I can understand why because
- 1:55:16Milford's such a unique area with a lot to do anyway.
- 1:55:20And I kept thinking, and we were, I mean, we got there what,
- 1:55:24probably about 1:00 in the afternoon or something.
- 1:55:26And if you could. Spend a whole day in Milford and
- 1:55:29they just, they have a lot of unique things to do.
- 1:55:32The Nature Center is not too far from there.
- 1:55:34You can go on a little hike. They have a whole bunch of
- 1:55:37restaurants, little shops to check out on that street.
- 1:55:40Yeah, there's definitely a distillery across the street
- 1:55:43that you can, you know, get your fine beers at one location, get
- 1:55:47your fine bourbon and whiskey across the street.
- 1:55:49So yeah, you can have. A whole day of there.
- 1:55:52That'll be part of the plan next.
- 1:55:53There's a rooftop at that distillery too, so.
- 1:55:56Is there. So yeah, we just, we just need a
- 1:55:59nice day. Yeah, you guys need to go back
- 1:56:03when it's sunny and experience the outdoor prowess of this
- 1:56:08brewery, cuz you've got to see the really cool indoor feature
- 1:56:12and spot. But yeah, you should definitely
- 1:56:14see it at its sunshiny best. We've talked about ambiance in a
- 1:56:17few places that we've been to on this trip so far and to sit on a
- 1:56:20river to drink beer and just that would be another example of
- 1:56:24it. Just my God.
- 1:56:26And on a 75° day, it's like we're not going anywhere else.
- 1:56:30I mean, it's Little Miami Brewing sitting on the Little
- 1:56:32Miami River. So yeah, it's perfectly named
- 1:56:35and I think you guys had some good beers there.
- 1:56:38I know I had the Saint James Dry Irish Stout, which I really
- 1:56:43loved. The other one I had was the 71
- 1:56:47Peaches and I said the sky. So there's a brewery in Bristol,
- 1:56:51TN that we, we, we've come to know the owner a little bit and
- 1:56:57they also have a beer, Johnson City Brewing.
- 1:57:00It's Peaches and it reminded me of that beer.
- 1:57:04This thing was fantastic. I absolutely loved it.
- 1:57:08And then I also got there turn the page of sour fruited and
- 1:57:13again, another brewery that has such a big, big, big diversity
- 1:57:17of beer. I'm I mean, I don't know how
- 1:57:19often they change their tap list.
- 1:57:22I'm I'm assuming they do a lot and they have, I think you'd
- 1:57:24said there too, Scott, that they have food out there.
- 1:57:27So just a wonderful place. Yeah, and we've not mentioned
- 1:57:30this when you go to a brand new place like this and for a little
- 1:57:32Miami, I don't think I've had anything outside of the brewery
- 1:57:35either can on draft from another place.
- 1:57:38Like everything I had here was brand new that day.
- 1:57:41Like, I could have ordered anything on the board and not
- 1:57:43even thought about it, and it would have been brand new
- 1:57:45because I've never had a little Miami beer anywhere else ever,
- 1:57:49which was cool. So everything was was was
- 1:57:51completely brand new. Yeah, great.
- 1:57:52I mean, I had a grapefruit. They call it Grateful IPA, the
- 1:57:57Pterodactyl, which is a wheat beer and a pine drop, which I
- 1:57:59think was very Piney. It might have.
- 1:58:01It says pale ale. Dude, that was similar to like a
- 1:58:04West Coast IPA. It didn't say it was, but it was
- 1:58:06pretty close to one. Yeah, even they called it pale
- 1:58:09like it was very Piney. But anyway, great friggin spot.
- 1:58:12Another one to go back to that we will have to go back to.
- 1:58:15Oh, absolutely. Absolutely.
- 1:58:17In the distillery across the street.
- 1:58:19Oh, yeah. Oh, yeah.
- 1:58:21And you know that I, as I mentioned before, I mean, you,
- 1:58:23you got to go through a lot of nice areas out there.
- 1:58:26You go through an area called Indian Hill, where I know Liz is
- 1:58:30the neighbor of Joe. Burrow.
- 1:58:32They probably hang out at their golf courses and.
- 1:58:35Yeah, that's why I have to go to work to pay for my multi
- 1:58:38$1,000,000 house. Yes.
- 1:58:41But as we were going out there, I thought, yeah, this is Indian
- 1:58:44Hill. Somewhere in this whole area,
- 1:58:47there's a lot of rich people, and there's a lot of, you know,
- 1:58:50Joe Burrow lives probably somewhere out in that area,
- 1:58:54probably in a gated community. I don't know.
- 1:58:56You know, it would have been cool if we'd gone in there and
- 1:58:58maybe he would have been there, took a beer with us, but he
- 1:59:01wasn't. I mean, they, they, it's pretty
- 1:59:03out there. You're kind of getting towards a
- 1:59:05little bit further from the city when you get to Indian Hills.
- 1:59:08So, you know, like larger yards, you have some rolling landscape,
- 1:59:13you got some, you know, horse crossings that you have to watch
- 1:59:16out for on some of these back roads on the way to, you know,
- 1:59:20for for the horseback riders that go across the road.
- 1:59:23So yeah, you're getting a little bit further out.
- 1:59:25It's still, you know, within the 275 belt loop, but it's a little
- 1:59:30further out from the city. From Little Miami Scott, we went
- 1:59:34to another new route. Well, I went.
- 1:59:36I had not been. To this.
- 1:59:37Before you have been and that would be esoteric.
- 1:59:41Yes, love esoteric man. I remember how long were.
- 1:59:45You guys not esoteric because I think this might have been your
- 1:59:48longest brewery visit of the trip.
- 1:59:50It was a while we we went in and we knew John Reese is somebody
- 1:59:54we had talked to prior to come on the podcast and I had been
- 1:59:58already and we're going to come up there and have us meet when
- 2:00:00we when we get there and we get and we meet him and then he
- 2:00:03makes he introduces us to the head Brewer and Nick and then
- 2:00:06the owner Brian is there. So we end up kind of going in
- 2:00:09the, but he takes us in the. In the back and he starts
- 2:00:10bringing us beer and we ended up talking for what, 2 hours?
- 2:00:14Steve it. Was a while, yeah.
- 2:00:15We were just talking beer and he kept bringing us more beer and
- 2:00:19just had a great time. Really great guy.
- 2:00:21I mean, he was great. He actually sent us an e-mail
- 2:00:24today, but they're coming on the podcast.
- 2:00:25But so he brought us a couple of actually, one of them was a West
- 2:00:29Coast IPA from I think it was the Bellevue Steve, one of them.
- 2:00:32And then but he brought out that that Belgian quad at 10%.
- 2:00:40Yes. Which was delicious.
- 2:00:42He kept he kept wanting us to try all these things, which were
- 2:00:45amazing beers. And Steve goes when he brought
- 2:00:48that quad out, that's when things change for you.
- 2:00:52You were just like a. Little bit like, yeah, a little
- 2:00:55bit, but I have to also. There was also some breaking
- 2:00:58news at Esoteric the the the one you just mentioned, the Bellevue
- 2:01:02Hill West Coast. Yeah, uh huh.
- 2:01:05I too. I also rated that one breaking
- 2:01:10news. Breaking news. 4.25 out on top.
- 2:01:13Oh. Look at that.
- 2:01:16Look at that. We got two 4.2 fives.
- 2:01:19Doing it, baby. Doing it.
- 2:01:20The West Coast IPA Tour from Cincinnati.
- 2:01:24You guys are going to have a lot to talk about with these guys
- 2:01:26when they come on. Oh yeah, they're really great.
- 2:01:30John was really great. Again, we got to meet several of
- 2:01:32them. I won't even say better than
- 2:01:34expected, but it really was we just again, when you talk to
- 2:01:37people and have an experience and they start bringing your
- 2:01:40stuff out and you just talk. We talked for two hours just
- 2:01:43about beer and and he was passionate and he was happy to
- 2:01:46talk to us and he was like, come on back here and happy to come
- 2:01:50on the podcast. You just said it kind of
- 2:01:51excitement. It's like, oh man, this is this
- 2:01:53is easy. It almost.
- 2:01:54Kind of sounds like it felt like a little family experience, like
- 2:01:57you were getting invited to the family, you know, dinner table
- 2:02:00to sit there and try everything. We did and I felt awkward at
- 2:02:03first like hey guys, you got stuff to do with me.
- 2:02:05No stay. Would you like this other one
- 2:02:08here? I'll go get you a couple of
- 2:02:09others. And he brought more beers back
- 2:02:11so it's like don't leave. And we felt welcomed, I guess is
- 2:02:14ultimately what I'm trying. To say that's awesome you got
- 2:02:16welcomed into the family. Yeah, it was really cool.
- 2:02:20And another. And another freaking Mexican
- 2:02:24logger there. Another great Mexican.
- 2:02:26Saying if it's trending, it's trending.
- 2:02:28Yeah, there you go. It it really is so great place.
- 2:02:31Steve, what did you think about that Belgian Kwai?
- 2:02:34Because I loved it. Oh, I loved it.
- 2:02:36Yeah. I'm I mean, I think I rated
- 2:02:38about a four on the top. I had to go back and look, but
- 2:02:41yeah, it was really good because I had that and I had another IPA
- 2:02:44called the Lotus. It was also really good.
- 2:02:47And I the only so the only thing I knew about esoteric be
- 2:02:52obviously I knew they were a brewery over that way.
- 2:02:54I had had some other beer on can that I picked up over the years
- 2:02:59from party source. And even though I know, you
- 2:03:02know, we joke about the list, Esoteric has been on the list
- 2:03:06for a while. I think the last time maybe I
- 2:03:09was in town with Liz, I was like, I gotta get the esoteric,
- 2:03:11you know, and never never got over there, you know, I think, I
- 2:03:14think that that's just what it was.
- 2:03:16But I was glad that we got to. It now so.
- 2:03:19Yeah. Hey, Liz.
- 2:03:20When we walked in, the place was popping like it was like they
- 2:03:24had some kind of, what would you call it, like a corporate event
- 2:03:26or something like something but not but not like a private
- 2:03:30event. Space for days.
- 2:03:32They like to host of a lot of events there during the week.
- 2:03:35They always have different groups.
- 2:03:36Like they have a karaoke night. They occasionally host like
- 2:03:40salsa night there. So like the whole front room
- 2:03:44turns into like a salsa dancing area.
- 2:03:47There's a backroom that can have a party simultaneously.
- 2:03:49There's a really cool window where you can grab food from.
- 2:03:53Yeah. And then they even have some
- 2:03:54tables Outback in the sunshine that you can go sit.
- 2:03:56But it was raining that day, so I'm sure you guys didn't sit
- 2:03:58back there. No.
- 2:04:00No. But yeah, no, it's a huge
- 2:04:02functional space. So they have a lot of options
- 2:04:04with that and they try to, you know, have a lot of community
- 2:04:07events during the week too. Yeah, it was for like, again,
- 2:04:09some kind of corporate or something.
- 2:04:11And we walked in, got beer and stuff.
- 2:04:13And then he was like, we were like, hey, it's John Reese here.
- 2:04:16And coincidentally, if he was the guy that served as beer
- 2:04:18initially, we didn't know. And he goes like, oh, it's he's
- 2:04:22like, oh, it's you. He goes, come back here.
- 2:04:24So we kind of went in the back and got away from the kind of
- 2:04:26the crowd out there. And again, like you said, kind
- 2:04:28of get welcomed into the family for a little bit.
- 2:04:30So it was really, it was a really cool experience.
- 2:04:32And two hours went by like that. I'm excited to hear this
- 2:04:36podcast. Yeah, they're going to be great.
- 2:04:38And we don't know if Brian's coming on.
- 2:04:39We got an e-mail from John today, but John and Anique,
- 2:04:42who's the head Brewer are coming on for sure.
- 2:04:44So very cool. It's going to be, it's going to
- 2:04:45be great. And again, his passion just,
- 2:04:48it's exciting and I don't know. They're in a good spot in the
- 2:04:52neighborhood too. There's all sorts of like good
- 2:04:54stuff going on around there. So, you know, they're in a good
- 2:04:57neighborhood, good spot, and a lot of things to grow in a
- 2:05:00positive way. Well, it was.
- 2:05:03It was. Great to check them off the
- 2:05:04list. I know for me and you know, the
- 2:05:08plan was, and I mentioned in the beginning the podcast that there
- 2:05:11were a bunch of breweries we'd hope to get to and the one that
- 2:05:14was on our priority list and we got there last year.
- 2:05:17We were going to go to it after Esoteric, but Esoteric just kept
- 2:05:22us for a long time. I looked at Scott, I said I
- 2:05:24think we need to call an audible here.
- 2:05:26We were going to go to St. Side and instead I said maybe we
- 2:05:31should go a little bit closer where we're staying maybe get
- 2:05:34some food and we were we were you were texting us I.
- 2:05:38Was trying to give you options. I let you know.
- 2:05:40I was throwing out the bat signal options like where do you
- 2:05:43want to go? Because I also heard that Steve
- 2:05:44was hungry. So we were trying to find some
- 2:05:47spots that had some good food and yeah, we ended up at an old.
- 2:05:52Sullivan family favorite, The old Sullivan family favorite.
- 2:05:57That's right. We went to Wiedemann and I know
- 2:06:02I've talked about this on the podcast before that Wiedemann in
- 2:06:04Saint Bernard, Ohio, basically where I grew up as a kid because
- 2:06:10of my grandparents were from there.
- 2:06:11And you know, this place used to be a Funeral Home and used to
- 2:06:15be, you know, where we had the funerals were like the
- 2:06:18Sullivans. And I can't even tell you how
- 2:06:21many funerals I went to as a kid there.
- 2:06:23And now it's a brewery. It's been a brewery for a while.
- 2:06:26And the thing that always stands out is the fact that they still
- 2:06:29go into the bathroom. And I'm like many, many years
- 2:06:32later, the bathroom still looks the same.
- 2:06:34They have such a good eclectic collection of just paraphernalia
- 2:06:40everywhere, signs, lights, just all sorts of cool stuff in
- 2:06:45there. It's it's a treasure trove of
- 2:06:47collector items. I'm glad we went cuz it did work
- 2:06:51out for all of us because it was we could get food right?
- 2:06:54Taco Tuesday it. Was Taco Tuesday I actually got
- 2:06:58tacos and. Scott's favorite part of the
- 2:07:01whole trip was here cuz little did we know when we sat down
- 2:07:06that it was also Singo night. That's.
- 2:07:09Right. Now I've got no problem with
- 2:07:11singo. The style of music being played
- 2:07:15was a little not my I didn't it was.
- 2:07:18Fabulous. What can I say, It was fabulous.
- 2:07:22I don't say this. We had to have a lot of help
- 2:07:24with our board, and that's what you were the help, that's what.
- 2:07:30I'm. Saying like, they played that
- 2:07:33one, they played that one, marked that one out, they played
- 2:07:35that one. I don't know any of this shit.
- 2:07:39You knew some. You knew some.
- 2:07:40I knew some, but that was part of that was part of the fun too.
- 2:07:43It was like, well, I don't know nothing.
- 2:07:45It was fun. It was a little.
- 2:07:47Surprise. It was.
- 2:07:49It was fun. Yes, it was fun for me to end
- 2:07:51the trip at A at an old place that I'm very familiar with and
- 2:07:56yeah, by the time I got there I was like I am food and beer.
- 2:07:59I'm in food beer coma almost get got a lot of great food had the
- 2:08:04monkeys dunkle there and that was good.
- 2:08:07But yeah, but it. Was I was drinking the beer
- 2:08:09Ritas because it was Taco Tuesday and the beer Ritas were
- 2:08:13on special. So we we definitely had to have
- 2:08:16a couple of those. But I know Scott tried a whole
- 2:08:18bunch of beers. Yeah, they had one called, you
- 2:08:20know, there was the little thing of Pete Rose was, you know,
- 2:08:23Steve, you took a picture next to him.
- 2:08:25But they had a beer called Pete. It was just called Pete
- 2:08:27exclamation point, which was the cold IPAI guess it was, you
- 2:08:31know, reference to Pete Rose. I I assume.
- 2:08:32And and they had one called a Muster Club coach.
- 2:08:36I don't really know what the Muster Club art means, but it
- 2:08:39was a coach. It was, it was lovely.
- 2:08:41And we we really did have a good time.
- 2:08:43As much as I complained about the music, I was having a good.
- 2:08:46Scott was dancing. Don't, don't let him fool you
- 2:08:48guys. He was dancing in a seat.
- 2:08:50He was, yeah. Yeah.
- 2:08:51Yeah, there's no video of that. A little Rick Ashley.
- 2:08:54There. All recorded up here.
- 2:08:57It was OK as long as it's there. We had a good time.
- 2:09:01We were there till the end, literally till the end.
- 2:09:04We weren't, you know, it's amazing.
- 2:09:05We shut a few places down while we were in Cincinnati.
- 2:09:09We do that. But you know what?
- 2:09:10Like every good Hostess, I made sure that you left waitamons
- 2:09:15with a little surprise back waiting for you at your Airbnb
- 2:09:19we. Had some some graters bourbon
- 2:09:23ice cream and it was fabulous. Off the charts.
- 2:09:29When I got but when we got back that night, I do firework, it
- 2:09:34was great. I just I destroyed it.
- 2:09:35It was it. Was fantastic.
- 2:09:38Well, I know these two like their beers, but I know they
- 2:09:40also like their bourbon. So it was a graters new Rift
- 2:09:44distillery collab. So it was, you know, bourbon
- 2:09:47ball. They had little pecans in there.
- 2:09:51And as I told Scott, I said, you know, for not being the
- 2:09:54Cincinnati native, just wait till you get the big giant
- 2:09:57chocolate chip because when they make that stuff, they pour
- 2:10:00liquid chocolate and however it forms, it forms.
- 2:10:02So sometimes you can get these ginormous chocolate chips in
- 2:10:05your ice cream. There was a vein.
- 2:10:07I showed it to Steve. There was a vein of chocolate
- 2:10:09that went through mine. You know, like it, just like it
- 2:10:12was like it was this long. It was a damn nothing but
- 2:10:15chocolate. It was fabulous.
- 2:10:16It was perfect. I appreciated it for you got to
- 2:10:19eat ice cream with bourbon in it, so I thought it was
- 2:10:22fabulous. Yes, that's the angle I was
- 2:10:24coming from. It's ice cream with kind of
- 2:10:26bourbon added and the spice and things too.
- 2:10:28Yeah. So it was lovely.
- 2:10:30It was perfect. It's a 5 out of five.
- 2:10:32Absolutely. And it was, you know, you really
- 2:10:34can't get wrong most time with Creators ice cream.
- 2:10:37And of course, you know, I had that that Graders collab the
- 2:10:40beer at Braxton on the trip too. So, you know, the best of both
- 2:10:44worlds. Gotta love it.
- 2:10:46Scott. Excellent.
- 2:10:47Before we get to some stats on the trip, yeah, OK, there's
- 2:10:50something there's something that we have to talk about because.
- 2:10:55Am I in trouble? Well, no.
- 2:10:57But on the previous. Podcast you had mentioned you
- 2:11:00were gonna be bringing this and I asked you about it.
- 2:11:04Liz, he was going to bring us some chili beer that he made.
- 2:11:09Oh yeah, we don't want. And he did not.
- 2:11:12Oh, no, wait a minute, wait a minute, it.
- 2:11:15Didn't turn out. It didn't turn out.
- 2:11:17Well, brew it again and then we can.
- 2:11:19I will pair it with some skyline.
- 2:11:22Yeah, something when I say it didn't turn out, I'm not saying
- 2:11:25it tasted bad, I'm saying it turned.
- 2:11:27It got vinegary soury. So.
- 2:11:29So something got in it. I don't know.
- 2:11:32We will revisit it, I promise. Yeah.
- 2:11:35Like, if it just tasted bad, I'd be like, hey, try it, don't it?
- 2:11:38It went bad. What happened?
- 2:11:40It dawned on me about halfway through our trip and I'm like,
- 2:11:42wait a minute. And.
- 2:11:45I were supposed to drink that. Beer we were.
- 2:11:47Supposed to try that beer. We.
- 2:11:49Were going to. Use pictures of that beer.
- 2:11:52If, again, if it just tasted bad, it'd be one thing.
- 2:11:56I'm not going to give you sour beer.
- 2:11:58Well, we don't want that. No, no, it is.
- 2:12:00I'll. I'll do it again, I promise.
- 2:12:02You're pardoned. For that one.
- 2:12:04Yeah, huh. You're pardoned.
- 2:12:07OK, I think I promise if it comes out halfway, if it's not,
- 2:12:10if it's not turned bad, I'll give it to you even if it
- 2:12:13doesn't taste good. But.
- 2:12:14Maybe the the essence of chili Maybe.
- 2:12:18Did you get some Skyline chili packets while you were here for
- 2:12:22brewing? Think about that.
- 2:12:24Good thing there's a Kroger's in Nashville.
- 2:12:28I have the spice. I even have cocoa.
- 2:12:30I put cocoa in this in the thing.
- 2:12:32But you can get the packet of flavors from Skyline.
- 2:12:35It's like the Skyline Chili packet.
- 2:12:37Yeah, Scott. Secret ingredients included.
- 2:12:41Oh, oh, the secret ingredients. Oh yeah, secret ingredients.
- 2:12:45Maybe that's the move. Maybe that's the move on the
- 2:12:47next one. That might be.
- 2:12:50Then then you could pair it with a cheese Coney or a chilito or a
- 2:12:55three-way. You never know.
- 2:12:57Let's get the beer so it's not sour and then we'll figure out
- 2:13:00the rest. That's fair.
- 2:13:01Yes, fair. Also I I got your point.
- 2:13:05I would say. We're all gonna stand by for
- 2:13:07further updates. How's.
- 2:13:08That OK? Yes, I promise we're gonna
- 2:13:10revisit this. All right, well.
- 2:13:13So, so Steve, yeah, we've got some stats.
- 2:13:16We're stats guys, right? Oh, stats, yeah.
- 2:13:18We like stats. We're.
- 2:13:20We like some stats. We like stats.
- 2:13:23We've got some stats for this leg of the journey.
- 2:13:26Yeah. And when I say stats, talking
- 2:13:27about, you know, different beers, number of beers out, all
- 2:13:29that kind of stuff. So why don't you start with some
- 2:13:32of your stats? Well, my stats don't match up
- 2:13:35the year. Stats.
- 2:13:35No. No, that's not the thing.
- 2:13:36No, it's not the thing. No, we're not worried about that
- 2:13:38part. But I got some stats so from
- 2:13:40what I could tell because I had to go back and rethink about
- 2:13:44some some of the beers I had and how many I had.
- 2:13:48On that trip. Yeah.
- 2:13:50And on that trip I I ranked about 57 beers on that trip in
- 2:13:56Cincinnati. I've now hit 7 new breweries, 16
- 2:14:03breweries total on that trip, Rang Ice twice, Yard House
- 2:14:07twice. And if you count all the
- 2:14:09breweries over time that I've been in Cincinnati of breweries
- 2:14:14that I've been to. Now this does include like, you
- 2:14:16know, going to like BJ's and also Yard House and more line
- 2:14:21locker house. I stand at about 48.
- 2:14:26Holy shit. Yeah.
- 2:14:28That's more than most cities have a brewery.
- 2:14:32Most cities don't have 48 breweries.
- 2:14:35Yeah, that's. Right.
- 2:14:35You're you're kind of halfway. So you kind of know.
- 2:14:39So we're chipping away. We're chipping away.
- 2:14:41You know what? That number goes up.
- 2:14:43That number goes up every year. Yeah, Liz, you know what that
- 2:14:46means. We're just gonna have to come
- 2:14:47back and explore more. Sounds like a plan.
- 2:14:51There you go. And there always have to be new
- 2:14:53ones on the list, right? That's right.
- 2:14:55Well, you know, some of these spots are adding, you know,
- 2:14:58multiple locations, you know, like mad truth got a couple.
- 2:15:02I know you guys have been to the multiple Braxton locations so
- 2:15:06minus you downtown one. I know it we.
- 2:15:10Can get to all of them. Eventually, when we're both 90,
- 2:15:13we'll have hit the last one. Well, when you look sideways,
- 2:15:18Taft becomes melaton and you got to visit it again.
- 2:15:21So that's right, damn it, there's another one.
- 2:15:23Oh darn. All right.
- 2:15:24Well, and by the way, what I did, not what I did not include
- 2:15:28the 48 also includes some of the ones that I've been to that are
- 2:15:31now closed. So I'll throw that out.
- 2:15:33There, Yeah. There are a couple.
- 2:15:35There are a couple that that have that has since closed over
- 2:15:39the years, but you know. That's not your fault.
- 2:15:42I know they've had. All of us to winter.
- 2:15:43Yeah. You went to.
- 2:15:44Yeah, of course they count. They count.
- 2:15:47Exactly. So on this leg of my of this
- 2:15:49journey, I had 80 new beers, 86 total check insurance.
- 2:15:55It averaged 22 beers per day. That sounds ridiculous. 6 new
- 2:15:59breweries because I had been to some that you had you hadn't
- 2:16:03been to yet. Blah blah, so. 6 new breweries
- 2:16:05and 17 total breweries, including Ryan Guys twice on
- 2:16:09just this trick right here that we just talked about South.
- 2:16:12The fact that Steve, you and I went to 17 breweries in five
- 2:16:18days is ridiculous. It's more than three a day.
- 2:16:21Yes, it's ridiculous. Even if we count Ryan Guys
- 2:16:24twice, it's it's a lot. That's a lot for people in a
- 2:16:27month and we did it in five days.
- 2:16:29We did. We came, we conquered.
- 2:16:32Mission accomplished, Liz. Are you proud of us?
- 2:16:34So proud, so proud. Next time I feel like we need to
- 2:16:38add to the stats just purely Cincinnati things that you did
- 2:16:42so tally of some Sensi experiences too, so, you know,
- 2:16:47like your Red Stadium visit. Yeah, we could.
- 2:16:50We could keep these stats going for forever.
- 2:16:54We're. We're gonna have how many wild
- 2:16:55animals did we see at the zoo while drinking beer?
- 2:16:58Cuz that's happening. Yeah.
- 2:17:00I can't wait to not be a part of that.
- 2:17:02Lions and. Tigers.
- 2:17:04That's the. Joke here.
- 2:17:05Oh my. Oh boy, oh boy, Scott's excited.
- 2:17:10He's going to the zoo. It's gonna be fun.
- 2:17:13It's gonna take a lot of convincing.
- 2:17:16Craft beer, yeah. I can get that anywhere.
- 2:17:19I don't have to go to the zoo for.
- 2:17:19That no. OK.
- 2:17:21Anyway. And you what if they have an
- 2:17:23exclusive flavor? Yeah.
- 2:17:25I don't know. We'll cross that bridge when we
- 2:17:27get to. There you go Anyway, OK, so this
- 2:17:31was Part 1 of Steve. This was just half of our trip
- 2:17:35so far by the. Way that is true.
- 2:17:37We have more to talk about. Soon, yeah.
- 2:17:40Cleveland. Akron.
- 2:17:42Columbus, Louisville, you're up next.
- 2:17:46You're up next. Guys are halfway.
- 2:17:48There, that's right. Halfway there, Liz.
- 2:17:50I feel like I've already experienced it.
- 2:17:53Liz, by the way, is a champ because she joined us during the
- 2:17:56trip, during our trip when she was working, and she joined us
- 2:17:59tonight. We have to give her credit
- 2:18:01because she just got off work and she's been working hard and
- 2:18:06we're very glad that our Cincinnati correspondent could
- 2:18:08join us. I'm glad you guys asked and I'm
- 2:18:10glad I could be here because it's fun talking beer, drinking
- 2:18:14beer and reminiscing with friends.
- 2:18:16So thanks for having me. It's always a pleasure, and
- 2:18:19you're the only award-winning person on this podcast right
- 2:18:23now. You know, that is an exclusive
- 2:18:25award that I treasure and yeah, at some point I will have a
- 2:18:31trophy or something of it that is sitting on a shelf somewhere.
- 2:18:36You haven't got a spray painted beer can.
- 2:18:39Like the physical thing hasn't shown up yet.
- 2:18:41No, that's OK. That's OK.
- 2:18:43That's OK. I'll put it next to Miami when I
- 2:18:46get there. Well, they're handmade, so it
- 2:18:48takes a lot of detail. Does it come with its own
- 2:18:51exclusive home brew like paired with the trophy?
- 2:18:55Yeah, but that comes much later. You get the.
- 2:18:57Trophy then. Then the thing.
- 2:19:00Let's wrap this one up, can we? All right, we'll do it.
- 2:19:03We'll do it. Well, I'm going to end this on
- 2:19:05this note. We had a lot to talk about on
- 2:19:08this podcast and I had a feeling we're going to give a lot of
- 2:19:12other people a lot to talk about about this podcast.
- 2:19:15So until then, see you later. Adios, cheers.
- 2:19:20Cheers. We can do better Internet that
- 2:19:23wasn't there.
